"We're talking merely with talking treason sedition and somebody has an opinion and he's the former director of the cia and secretary of state. Mike pompeo cut six. We should make sure that we as quickly as we can't figure out it generally spoke to woodward himself we should find out if a general mills prepared to testify. We can do it tomorrow or the next day to get clarity. About what general milley set. I don't know the dod policy sean. Exactly whether there would be a transcript of this phone call. But i promise you. There were no takers in the room. I'm very competent that that conversation can be reconstructed if if you had a senior military leader who was simply an adviser. Tell the chinese communist party that they would get noticed. Seven attack this rivals. Anything we've seen in our nation's history Only the president of the united states has the capacity to make those decisions. And i'd be shocked if the then acting secretary defense give him any authority to even contemplate that very conversation. It would only be those two people. The could've told general milley to have that conversation if in fact it took

Worried Trump Could 'Go Rogue,' Milley Took Secret Action to Protect Nuclear Weapons

"Now the big story in washington. Dc and it really did grip the city yesterday is what the general milley say and doom did he say it after the new woodward and cost a book peril has appeared. The white house stepped forward to defend general milley against charges. He did anything inappropriate. Editorials in the washington post and the wall street journal both call for infant investigations and hearings under oath general milley for fear that he is compromised. Not merely american defense into conversations with china but the constitutional order. Now i have said from the beginning two days ago. Hold your fire on this. Wait and see. Acting secretary of defense miller who had replaced mark esperer at the time of the second call says he did not authorize the call and that's extraordinary cause for resignation. Mike pompeo went on fox with hannity last night and made some comments on this. What you to your secretary pompeo number one. I have no recollection of a conversation. Like that. look we were all pretty down. We are about to hand over the reins of foreign policy to what this administration we. We've seen these last eight months. What that means for the united states of america so if someone asked was excited about january twentieth and the fact that we were no longer going to have the capacity to secure american freedom. Count me for being a pretty dark place to. But what's important to know sean. Is you know all this has as a product that somehow there was. This fear there was there was a cabinet members. Run around concern. The donald trump was going to engage in some kind of rogue activity or some kind of act of war to sorta lash out. This never happened. Just it's just patently absurd and so the entire credit for all of this assessment that woodward is now laid out in his book. We'll see what turns out but make no mistake about it. During that entire time the entire time. I served all four years. We conducted orally foreign policy. We had national security team. That was working hard to make sure we make the best decisions. We possibly good. And i think the data set which show that. We did a pretty damn effect job and doing that.

"But I want you to hear from President Trump. He was on Hannity last night, and it was a tremendous interview by Sean With the president. And I want you to hear a little piece of this. Because I have something additional to say about it and try and set this straight once and for all. So stick with me. It will all make sense. Cut three Go. No, they have the cards with this group, and there are things you can do to counter it and things you can do to counter it very strongly, but they have the cars. But when you say secretary of state when you watch the decisions that are going to be made and being made, and you know what's going to be made because they played all their cards and look at the great job that Mike Pompeo did because he's tough. And he's smart number one of his class at West Point and a great student of the Harvard Law School. He was He did a great job, as secretary said, but he was tough and he knew what was happening with this, and he knew what was happening with China and Russia, and we would talk. Often. We had it all planned out, and then they decided to move the military out. And let's not follow the plan. It's like the only thing is, it's like the water wall. Nobody could handle it Worse were the greatest. We had the greatest protection that we've ever had on our southern border, and now we have the worst. And it was the worst nightmare to watch it that looks good by comparison to what's happening in Afghanistan. Okay? Something shocking happened. The Associated Press and our friend that right school, Brian Pointed it out. Biden has been saying all along that he was pinned into withdrawing from Afghanistan based on Trump's agreement with the Taliban. And he said more than that. Or we had to pour in, you know an enormous number of military resources. But stunningly, the AP points out how untrue

"Breaking news the washington post this morning as director william burns met with the The senior leader of the taliban yesterday in kabul william burns went over. There secretly held the meeting face to face with abdul. Ghani bara dr It's the highest face to face encounter between the taliban in the bite administration boras also man who met with Titrate state mike pompeo last year. I'm joined by byron. York of the washington examiner byron does that maybe give us the clues to why the administration is being so secretive as to what is going on and the timeline in kabul hallel byron. You might be on go ahead. you're on now okay. It could but it underscores the perhaps the ugliest fact of this entire affair which is that. The united states is dependent on the good graces of the taliban. It sounds insane to say that but we are dependent on the good graces of the taliban to get americans out american citizens american Not forces and those Afghans who aided the american military effort. So the the fact that you know. We're having meetings with the taliban. In which in this case i think has to be done. Underscores the dependence position that the president has put us in here now bar. Dr of course does not control al qaeda or isis or any of the other splinter groups. That are there. It is unclear to me whether or not we actually have operational security guarantees from the taliban. But the thing that i'm certain about we don't know how many americans are there and i doubt that the united states government does but do you think they have at least a minimum number. They might release to us byron. Well i was relieved to find out yesterday that there are not stranded not stranded because the white house told me that But i think it's an well. Let's say this if the if the us government knows how many americans are there and he's not saying I don't know the explanation for that. But i'm taking them at their word that they literally do not know how many americans are in afghanistan

Biden Doubles Down on Afghanistan Decision

"Mike pompeo on this show in front and said it's pointless argue counterfactual because we don't know what happened with a counterfactual. What happened is a disaster in the president yesterday on sunday arguing that there was no alternative. This was going to happen. No matter what plan we had is not persuasive. Except i don't even think. Five percent of the american people believe it had to be this way claim number two from friday jake. Let's play cut number forty one. The military has secured the airport as you mentioned. But will you sign off on sending us troops into kabul to evacuate americans who haven't been able to get to the airport safely. We have no indication that they haven't been able to get in couple through the airport. We've made an agreement with with the taliban this far. Jake sherman true or false false. I mean false. Because not because i'm in kabul i'm not but because We have reporters on the ground. Who have had trouble getting to the airport. Not punishable news but cnn cbs. Spot and bc. I mean we know that people are having trouble getting to the airport so let me play one more claim from friday. Then want to ask you about congressional offices because they are some unsung heroes out. There both republican and democrat third claim by president biden on friday. What interests do we have in afghanistan. At this point with al qaeda gone we went to afghanistan for the express. Purpose of getting rid of al qaeda in afghanistan as well as as well as getting no sama been lot jake sherman. We know bin laden is dead. We don't know where zawahiri is. What was the reaction around town to. The president's claim that al qaeda was gone. Well i think other people in his administration have indicated the opposite that al-qaeda indeed is a resurfacing in afghanistan and mike resurface in afghanistan. And furthermore what. A lot of people have said to me is what we went into other countries with express purposes that had been solved and stays in those countries for years and in many cases were still in those countries to keep the peace to advance foreign policy initiatives so You know. I think that is the general reaction that i think it was. Maybe the most disastrous five questions of presidents ever been out for

How Chaos In Afghanistan Emboldened Terrorism - burst 1

"Chaos in afghanistan upton as president biden withdrew military forces leading to a forceful takeover by the taliban today august seventeenth. We will dive into one of the greatest foreign policy. The buckles in modern history. Good afternoon. i'm meeting. Kim and this is the outspoken oma quote. Joe biden has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy national security issue over the past four decades and quote. Who said that not trump not a partisan congressmen or republican operative. That was robert gates. The former secretary of defense under president obama for three years and today as we see significant foreign policy the buckle unfolds in afghanistan that quote is once again reaffirmed now quickly dive into some basic background information as to what is transpiring in afghanistan back in mid april president biden announced immediate withdrawal all american troops from afghanistan by september eleventh. Twenty twenty one. Obviously september eleven was chosen dates because that was to recognize the anniversary of the september eleventh terrorist attacks and which led to the immediate was occupation of afghanistan because at the time afghanistan was harboring osama bin laden on august fifteenth. The taliban took over the capital of kabul effectively toppling. Afghanistan's governments later afghan. President ghani fled the country right before taliban leadership storm the presidential palace and thousands of afghan citizens fled to kabul international airport to skip the taliban. Now while oldest was transpiring. President biden was in camp david and he was strong criticized because he didn't have a strong message or strong immediate message in response to all of this so he traveled back to washington. Dc to address the nation from the white house one of the biggest elements that he was criticized for in the speech was the blame game in which he played and one of the obviously notable people in which she blames forwarded the buckle in afghanistan was trump and sort of implied some blame to bush and obama. He said quote when i came into office. I inherited deal that president trump negotiated with taliban on the his agreement. Us forces would be out of afghanistan. May i twenty twenty one. Just a little over three months after i took office. Us forces had already drawn down during trump administration from roughly fifteen thousand five hundred american force to two thousand five hundred troops in country. The taliban was strongest militarily. Since two dozen one the choice i had to make as your president was added to follow through on that agreement or be prepared to go back to fighting the taliban in the middle of the spring fighting season and quote. And but if you actually look at the deal that trump's state department may with taliban it's not what biden actually described in his address at a nation. Mike pompeo who was secretary of state under president trump said in a recent interview that the deal of the taliban was strictly conditional which meant that deal was was strictly predicated on the taliban committing to a peaceful transfer of power in order for america to withdraw after that commitment to a peaceful transfer of power appel said in a recent interview quote we would have demanded the taliban actually deliver on the conditions that we let out in the agreement including the agreement to engage in meaningful power sharing agreement some that which we struggled to get them to do but made it clear it was going to be required before we completed requirements to fulfil foley withdrawal and unquote. And you know there are some criticisms of the deal. Mike pompeo made with the taliban. Obviously the taliban actually pursuing a peaceful transfer of power from the afghan government was not going to happen. I mean we actually thought. That was being overly idealistic. So people had that criticism upon pales deal but even if biden did not agree with the policy that trump's state departments made in efforts to come to some sort of consensus with the taliban he kind of reversed it. I mean he was president for seven months. Which meant that. He'd independence day department and independence defense department and he could have used his powers as the chief executive to to reverse a deal that the previous administration made i mean for his entire time as president of the united states reversed nearly every single policy. That trump did while he was president. So this is no exception. I mean he should own up to the flaws of the policies in which he tried to pursue in addition to to trump he also blamed the afghan military. He said quote. The truth is but this did on for the more quickly than we had anticipated. So what happened. Afghanistan political leader escape up and fled the country the afghan military collapse. Sometimes we're not trying to fight if anything developments at the past week reinforced the ending. Us military involvement in afghanistan. No was the right decision. American troops cannot ensure not be fighting a war and dying in award. Afghan forces are not willing to fight for themselves and quotes. This is honestly one of the most politically cynical things that i've ever heard biden say the afghan forces are not willing to fight for themselves. Fifty thousand afghan military soldiers died in darndest entire two decades of us occupation of afghanistan. And the reason why they cannot successively defend themselves against the taliban was because biden himself pulled out a contractors and basically destroyed the afghans dependency on us military which are obviously undermined the ability of afghan military to counter act opposing taliban forces. According to the wall street journal quote in the wake of president biden's withdrawal decision the us pulled its airports air support intelligence and contractors servicing afghanistan planes and helicopters. This meant that afghan military simply cannot operate anymore and quote. Admittedly afghan leadership was significantly underprepared in the wake of the draw because as by afghan officials did not believe america will draw however according to andrew watkins a senior analyst for afghanistan and at the international prizes group research advocacy organization. There was no evidence that the taliban significantly increased their manpower and argue. The only reason why there's summer offensive was successful was due to a lack of us. Air strikes which meant that biden's administration shorter significant blame for the dismantling of the afghan government. What biden actually expect to happen when he pulled the entire the tire. Us presence from afghanistan if the afghan military dependent so much on the us occupation of afghan for the viability of their own independent military force. Then of course when they pulled out of afghanistan. The afghan military by itself was not sufficient enough to defend against the taliban if you're pulling out intelligence contracts that were vital for the dependency of the afghan military than have military is expected to fall when the taliban was advancing to the nation's capital and one of the other things that addition to buy actually blaming everyone except for himself for the marco afghanistan biden also discussed casualties in the in the afghan occupation. He said quote. Lemme ask those who wanted to wanted us to stay. How many more how. Many thousands more of american daughters and sons are willing to risk and quotes according to abc news. There's not been a single american combat death since february eighth twenty which was eighteen months ago. That's not to belittle the two thousand three hundred twelve american soldiers that lost life in afghanistan. But it is the suggests that thousands of stationed american soldiers in the lead up to the afghanistan pull out were not being bogged down by precipitous warfare in combat honestly by contrast more than fifty one thousand taliban fighters were killed by american armed forces which shows a major power imbalance in military superiority between taliban in american forces but aside from that by reportedly sent five thousand additional troops back in afghanistan to aid withdrawal despite his call for not putting sons and daughters at risk he just said that it was egregious to put american sons and daughters at risk for filled mission. So what is different about the five thousand additional troops. He sending back into afghanistan. Aren't those sons and daughters. Also at risk and to add insult injury tens of thousands of american citizens have been left behind it in afghanistan in the withdrawal according to the washington according to wall street journal an estimated ten thousand fifteen thousand new citizens remained in afghanistan so yes it is tragic. Every single american soldier died in. afghanistan is a tragedy. No one is disputing dance but suggests that afghanistan was a present danger to the current military soldiers. There from february twenty is simply not true and biden. Really closer to speech with i think when idiotic things that he said in his entire speech close with kohl's diplomacy he said quote. We will continue to support the afghan people we will lead before. Diplomacy or international influence in or humanitarian aid will continue to push for regional diplomacy and engaging prevent violence and instability will continue to speak out for the basic rights at the afghan people of women and girls just as we speak all around the world and quote and my question is just how. How can you negotiate with radical barbaric terrorist group that subject it's ethnic religious and gender minorities to brutal torture and murder. How can you negotiate with democratic for cystic regime. That is responsible for thousands of american lives. I mean honestly gonna ask nicely are gonna get on your knees and begged them to treat the afghanistan woman fairly. I mean i don't understand why biden continues to believe that's diplomacy instead of for actually using military forces is the correct way to go and this brings us back to. What was this for honestly at the end of the day with withdrawn. Us military forces from afghanistan he effectively reversed two decades of foreign policy and the initial mission of counter terrorism and preventing a staging ground for al-qaeda according to the pentagon united states government has been eighty three billion dollars in bolstering the afghanistan government and which is effectively gone to waste. I mean we spend easily billion dollars to bolster an afghan military but the afghan military is so reliance on the american forces to to help them to secure them. But when the american forces are removed from the afghan military to aid them than the billion dollar investment goes down the drain and now according to you defense and state department officials six billion dollars in military equipment including eight hundred fifty mine-resistant ambushed protected vehicles were abandoned in withdrawal which six billion dollars in. Us military equipment is now in the hands of taliban and other terrorist organizations additionally chairman of the joint chiefs of staff mark milley addressed congressional leaders and said that they will move the terrorist threats in afghanistan from medium according to axios which meant that. Obviously you're going to see a rise in terrorism and afghanistan and now that the taliban effectively controls its governments and to add insult injury the inside reports that taliban militants released thousands of prisoners from afghan prisons with links to islamic jihadist groups and al qaeda. So what has changed in the past two decades. We've tried to counter terrorism. We tried to decrease the the influence of kind of effectively imprisoning or killing al qaeda militants. We tried to decrease the the power of the taliban and we tried to effectively counteract attacks by the islamic jihadist groups. But it seems to me after this withdrawal after the dust settled what is going to be. The state of afghanistan will be similar to the state of afghanistan when we first invaded and his brings me to a new york times article which discussed heavier mackey. Who was a former first class army. Special forces soldier with several afghanistan deployments and will shot twice and he said in an interview with the new york times quote. I sacrificed a lot. I saw death every day every year. And the guys. I soaked with new would probably come to an end like this. But the chaos and made his andre after everything we gave. I just wish that had been away to leave. With honor and quote for people like mackey. There is a question that rang in numerous veterans. What was it for the situation. Afghanistan has become similar to america. I evaded two decades ago. All the bloodshed in lives lost in pursuit of counter-terrorism only define the terrorism revitalize. This president has trade the continuing efforts of veterans and committed a damaging dereliction of duty as commander in chief of the armed forces is devastating. "Morning glory america bones or high candidate. You hear at joined by jake. Sherman of punchbowl news on the most shameful day. I've been broadcasting in thirty years. Not the most shocking gay. That was nine eleven. This is the most shameful day for america that have been on the air in thirty years. Good morning jake how are you. How are you good. I wanna play for you. A number of reaction. Get your reaction your political reporter. I don't expect national security commentary from you. But i'd love your political commentary on various things that are said here is former secretary. Mike's state. Mike pompeo on with fox news with chris wallace yesterday cut number ten. He should be less focused on trying to a blame. It on someone else solving the problem of making sure that we protect and defend american security. Chris it's worth noting. This did not happen on our watch. We reduced our forces significantly. The taliban didn't advance on capitals all across afghanistan. So it's just a fact that this is happening under the bite administrations leadership now. Almost a quarter of a way into his first term. This is this is not the way leaders lead by pointing backwards. We had a bad deal. We inherited the jcp away. We got out of it. We secured america from the risk from iran. We inherited a horrible deal in syria. Where isis controlled real estate. This is of great britain. We crush them. Every president confronts challenges. This president confronted a challenging afghanistan. He is utterly failed to protect the american people from this challenge. Jake sherman. what do you think i mean. He's right right. I mean every president does a set of circumstances that are beyond its control And has to deal with them and i think that's there's no doubt about that. I mean listen the the the larger Question to me here. And this is going to be overarching. You is how did this happen. How how was. "One of the great beltway. World-weary nobody bremmer called me. Partisan yesterday for speaking the absolute truth that this is all on one hundred percent. Joe biden the simpering leftist. Appeasement crowd has been out saying that. This is not joe. Biden's fault it's donald trump's fault. Mike pompeo sign that agreement. Mike pompeo was on fox. news yesterday. laying down the complete and utter and perfectly persuasive rebuttal to that nonsense seven months in office. They've been there seven months to have kept the twenty five hundred american soldiers. Five thousand nato troops in american airpower that we had agreed to keep their until an agreement had been negotiated between the afghan government and the taliban on power-sharing which foresaw anticipated a partition of the country into taliban zones and into free zones totally overrun. You got a week ago. By the way in konduz very well documented in the washington post and a report that i linked at hughhewitt dot com on my twitter account. But let me read to you. The wall street journal editorial president biden's statement on saturday. Washing his hands of afghanistan deserves to go down as one of the most shameful his history by commander in chief at such a moment of american retreat as the taliban closed in on kabul. Mr biden's in a confirmation of us. Abandonment that absolves himself of responsibility deflected blame to his predecessor and more or less invited the taliban to take over the country with that statement of capitulation the afghan military's last resistance collapsed taliban fighters captured kabul president. Ghani fled the country. While he was frantically tried to evacuate americans the jihadist us toppled twenty years ago for sheltering osama bin laden will now fly their flag over the us embassy building on the twentieth anniversary of nine eleven.

Will Iran Get a Nuclear Weapon Under the Biden Administration?

"Do you think iran's gonna get nuclear weapon in this administration. I don't know that they'll get it on their watch. But they'll make real progress They're going to have to. What do you need to build a nuclear weapon. You need to make sure that you can do it in hidden places So there is no one comes after it second. You need to have the money tools and resources to build out the infrastructure to do that and then you need the political cover that gives you the space to do it by demonstrations going to provide them each of those three things and how we starved the iranian regime. They're on their last four billion dollars. In foreign exchange reserves. It took us two and a half years to put that much pressure on them at. It saddens me because the people in the gulf parts and friends that we have in israel and america will be more risk as iran continues to move close to nuclear weapon. Charlie even as they get close even when they don't have the complete cycle their capacity course increases the capacity to say that if you don't do what it is we'd like you to do israel if you don't do what you like us to to the saudis then those countries will feel under the thumb because they know arana's even even if iran is only on the cusp of getting those weapons systems and they will have much more leverage in proxies to do

The US Embassy Flying a BLM Flag Is Deeply Un-American

"But i. I just want to get one comment your thoughts on this idea of our embassies flying. The black lives matter flag. Could you imagine if under your direction as something like that happened. I mean how is this even allowed under state department protocol. so there's a bit of history there When i was a member of congress. I traveled to an embassy and saw the Gay pride flag flying from the embassy. And i was infuriated and so i wrote a letter at that twin towers. That's all i could really do. But then i became secretary state. And when i became secretary of state when those embassies worked for me i made very clear. We're gonna fly one flag from the flagpole at an american embassy. That was going to be the american flag. Charlie thought taken away their last nickel The the consternation the lawsuits the threats were staggering. And so it was truly disheartening to see at the maine state department facility in washington the main flagpole that is the center point for american diplomacy that the whole world would see the picture and they would know what they were looking at there and foggy bottom to watch the fbi. Employees fly from that flagpole. was just tragic This is an organization that is deeply against american marxist organization who don't believe in the very things our diplomats are supposed to be doing around the world and for this administration to have permitted at the fly from an american flag pole. I didn't even. I'm not sure have adjective. That can accurately describe how how disheartening west to see and how un-american it felt to me too overtly political too i mean they say it's not political but of course it is. It's deeply political. This is an organization of left yet and this is an organization to which many in the democrat party have pledged failty So yeah no. This was not only not only political but it was deeply inconsistent with the values set of american equivalent. That we used on our show is what if every state department flag flew in. Nra flag

"You. Know what alvin i said. We should do. Another segment right now. Did did ask metaxas okay. We should now do a mister postman. What's that song mr l. Let's just call it. Let's just call it a listener rights. Okay ladies and gentlemen now. A segment of a listener writes a listener. No one album. I just got a letter from a listener to give his name. No well it. Rhymes with jack conley. I'm not gonna. I'm not going to. I wouldn't say it. Okay it's just the initials j. c. kojak and we use which is not even error but it says this is incredible. Sometimes it's very funny. The next letter is very funny. This letter is really serious and it really moved me to tears. It says dear eric. I just completed your biography of bonn hoffer thank you for such provocative inspiring challenging read. I'm a catholic priest and so deeply appreciative of your work. I assure you writing and preaching will be different now. You have opened my eyes. Thanks john. I'm not going to say the last name but it's a see i. I wanna tell you folks when i get something like this. You know you write books. I prayed so hard. When i was writing the bond hoffer book that god would use the book for his purposes but eleven years later to get a letter like this that this is a priest saying that his writing in his preaching will be different as a result of reading this book. Now i know it's not. My book is the life of bond hoffer but the idea that i had the privilege of writing the book. So if you're looking for good book let me recommend my bag. Fubon hoffer not. Because i wrote it but because it's it's kind of the best summation book if you're going to read a book you want his whole life and just to be clear you don't have to be a priest or minister to read it. It helps but okay. Here's here's a letter now. This letter is serious. But i found it so funny i said i gotta read this on the air. I'm not going to mention the guy's name. But let's just say it's joe l. This is a real letter. The title in the email was. Your selection of only men is short-sighted and then it's it says the eric after enjoying your seven men book graduates edition i add misgivings about approving recommending or gifting. It and wondered why your picks lacked diversity as the number of women is zero. It's unlikely seven men will inspire female graduates. Your selection of only men is short sighted. Man that hurts. yeah so. I had to respond to joe l. and i wrote this. I'm not joking. That's the letter i got. And this is my response. Dear sir perhaps you will find my seven women book more diverse. Here's a link for you to purchase that book. But i must warn you upfront. That seven women does not include any men. I'm not sure what can be done at this point. But i thought you should know. Thanks for your email sincerely. Eric metaxas author. That's a real. That's a real letter. Somebody was upset that my book seven men graduates edition didn't include women and i don't really know how to respond to that because it hurts it stings because seven men. It's a fact folks. i'm not going to deny it. You know when you're when you're when you're wrong you're wrong. Seven men has no women in it. I'm guilty. You are and seven women to to double down on my non diversity. Seven women has no men in it. Oh what are you gonna do. The books are printed their published out people buying and reading them and being blessed by them. I'm sorry but you know big man to admit all this. I must thank you. You're welcome thank you my next book coming out. Seven drag icons joan collins. We got share. It's unbelievable all right. Let me be clear. Neutral dot com thirty percent off. If you use the code eric. That's this week. Only the extended it this week. Not joking jump on it neutral. Medics dot com thirty percent. Use the code eric..

"Folks it's ask metaxas time. That's right. I'm playing the role of taxes. And you acce the questions or ask depending on where you're from ask metaxas. This is going to be kind of lightning round ten minutes. We've only got like six minutes and thirty seconds for this round and go. Oh okay here we go. How always is tim. Keller question number one is. How tall is tim. Keller that's question number one. I said people could ask me anything. Okay but i was not expecting that. Yeah i'll i'll answer it okay. He's about six three and a half. I'm not kidding. But the weird thing about. Tim keller is look. He's a friend. He's been a friend for years. Tim keller is kind of a big guy. It's like sebastian gorka from a distance. He looks you know normal. He doesn't look tall. Then when you get up to him you realize he's really tall. So when i say next to him i feel tiny like sebastian gorka. Because they're just they're normal. Proportions are normal but they're huge. But can i add grew quickly. You look normal until you in part and then you see me in person and realize a freak. You're like bus freak. I tell you okay redel. When will you have jordan peterson. Or finagle an invite to his podcast. Okay i'm really sick of this question. Everybody says this when you can have jordan peterson. What are you going to give you a minute. Are you friends with jordan peterson. Why don't you get him to invite me on his podcast. Tell him he needs to reach out to us. Because he's jordan. Peterson he's kind of a big deal. And it's kind like when you gonna paul mccartney on when you get ready to have him on now but he's kind of hard to get to so if you have any connections elton john. Paul mccartney jordan peterson please. Folks go to their website. Badger them tell them to contact us. That'd be nice gesture. Okay this is the ask metaxas. Lightning round question three book recommendations. What are you reading. What am i reading your assuming i read. Actually i'll tell you the truth what i'm reading. I'm reading don quixote or the quick as it was referred to in the nineteenth century by pretentious british. People don quixote written by set of this don quixote is one of those classic classic classic books that everybody raves about. But i've never read and people assume since i'm eric metaxas. I've read everything folks very far from very far from it. I am deeply ashamed of the abc's in my Reading so i was in Kansas city with the mike bickel and company and in the book line. Someone came up to be now forgetting his name. I just read it this morning. Because he signed my book and he starts talking to you about clarisa and about About don quixote classic books from previous centuries. Kalisa don quixote like seventeenth century books and. i thought i'd never read them and he was going on and on and the next time i came to kansas city. 'cause i came back for sean event and then i went back to kansas city. He hands me. A copy. Of don quixote that bought for me. And so i said i get to read it bon hoffer raved about don quixote and in my book on bond hoffer which i recommend He raves about don quixote which he read in the original spanish because he's brilliant you know hotshot bon hoffer and when he was in spain as a very young man. He a as a youth pastor in german congregation in barcelona or but alone as as the burst. Bolognaise say and so don quixote's what i'm reading right now. Thank you for that question any other questions. Yeah how do you pronounce bankers bangor gore us is pronounced bang. Bangor not bangor bangor and by the way. That is a shibboleth a shibboleth. In the in the in the old testament. There's a moment with the people who are from the place called shibboleth they pronounce it sybil eth- and everybody else pronounces it shibboleth and so as their crossing the stream. It's like they're asking them where you from. If they mispronounced it. They know they're lying. And they them. So a shibboleth is a word that divides the locals from the non locals. Quincy massachusetts the same kind of thing. Everybody reasons as quincy. Quincy quincy but the local sake quincy so bangor is a shibboleth. Say bangor people. No you're not from bangor next question. Okay if you're from pittsburgh if you call it the bird than everybody knows your from pittsburgh now. Any plans to come to chicago this year. That's the question you know of all the ask metaxas questions that i've done in the segment this is by far the most recent and it's challenging any plans to come chicago this year. Now here's another thing it's like. The jordan peterson question. When people say to me eric give any plans are. Why don't you come here. When i need to be invited. I don't just like show up at a church or school in chicago start lecturing. I need to be invited. So if you are affiliated with oh. I don't know the moody church or some some mega church. is willow creek still open If you're affiliated with a big church ask them to invite me if we can work it out. I will come. I would love to come. It's been a while since i came to chicago. I would love to come to chicago. But i have to get invited. That's a rule that i have. If you invite me then. I can say. Eric would like you to invite him to hawaii as well. And now if you're from a church there of course yeah. How do you respond to the claim. That god is different in the old testament versus the new testament. That's a tough question. Well there's there's a one word answer for that. Can you guess what it is pass. That's not the word. oh the. How do you respond to the claim. That god is different. In the old versus the new testament. Well the one word answer that i would respond with is jesus there you go. Jesus who is god and cornet whom i worship as the second person of the trinity clearly saw the new testament and himself as the fulfillment of the old testament so there can be no disparity unless you read them sloppily in other words unless you don't know how to read it or understand the context. But if you understand the context you understand in the old testament. God is preparing people for himself. The the israelites are his people and part of the reason he prepares them and chooses them is to bring the messiah into the world. Does the new testament and the whole point of preparing people for himself was sold. Messiah would come out of those people and then the whole world through the messiah could worship the god of the israelites. And so that's my short answer the long answer. We may do another time. We're just about out of time album. This has been a lightning round of ask taxes that folks every week. We're going to do this every single week. Be prepared all right. We're gonna come back final segment and then of course we've got our today. Which is another story. But we'll be right back with some exciting stuff down. I've got seven women on mine. Stone wants.

"For you. Thirty percent off. Neutral dot com. I'm not kidding folks. this is like it's over tomorrow. Neutral dot com thirty percent. Use the code. Eric and before continue alvin. I just thought i would meant. I don't know if you're sensitive about this. But i'm just sitting here talking trying to program and i noticed you're suddenly wearing an eye patch. Yes what did something happen. That i should know. I think it's breaking news. Obviously you did not read it. Because i already know that there is a new strain of virus. Okay and i'll world how organization and out there on on top of this thing. Now they were able to get us to wear the masks right for for the last virus. Will this one from the caribbean. It's called the pirate pandemic all so the one so the one from from china the china the hung flu pandemic from china. That's kind of like old news. You're talking about a new virus from the caribbean. This is the new right so it seems to enter through the right eye. So you're supposed to now wear an eye patch so on. i'm doing it. I'm trying to lead the way. I'm ahead of the curve on this. While you're telling me we should all be wearing eyepatches on a right exactly exactly so so it. It came from the l. Apparently came from hard to ride a bicycle. It does because you perception anyway so so. So you're you're already on this all right. They said it came from a feather market. Apparently caribbean yes. Sick parrot they think okay but some people think it came from an unsanitised beer tap at the pnc park in pittsburgh where the pirates play. But from pittsburgh. I don't wanna take that you know that's one way or another it's tied into pirates because you've got the parrot in the caribbean. Yeah or the the the pnc got now. They said that if it saves just one line just one life out of the eight billion on the planet we should all wear the eye patch and they said that a couple of weeks it might actually affect the left eye as well. It's a new variant strains. Yeah so i'm i'm getting ready. I'm ahead of the game. Oh look at this so you got to ipads a nats how you show love i. If you're chris care you want to show people that you care about them do you. Don't wanna get them sick. You're gonna wear me centered eyepatches and you know what it's the patriotic thing people. It's the patriotic thing. Either you wear the to eyepatches albert. I'm going to do this from now on you. Wear the to eyepatches. And you're basically saying to people. I love you i don't want to infect you. I don't want you to affect me. I'm anti infection. That's why i'm walking around like mr magoo. This is a blessed thing album. I just wanna say for your patriotism and for your agop pay love there. It is all those in your sphere. I just wanna say kudos to you. My friend kudos to you. And it's a beautiful thing when somebody says you know what's not about me it's about you and to show my love. I'm going to wear these two eyepatches. That is so awesome. The only problem though is when you drive a vehicle. It's going to be tough. You may kill other people that you wouldn't kill you know through the infection you may you may crash into them and stuff but you know what that will be regarded as a pirate pandemic death anyway. So who's whoever's keeping score the only way you could die from these flus. So i would just say go for it dr blind and you know what we're supposed to drive by faith and not by sight various. Oh the even the idea of not wearing the eye patch in a in a way that's faithless. Okay that's trusting in the arm of the flesh and alvin. I just wanna commend you again. You drive by faith not by sight. That is awesome. I five. I hope yeah i hear it forget it said that all right forget it all right well okay anyway. I'm so glad we we But when that chance and take these off right now yes that's so selfish you i can't believe it Okay alvin in our next segment. Yes sir we're gonna do a winded from that common to my goodness In in our next segment I keep talking about this over the weeks. Ask me taxes people right in with questions. Usually thought flirt pitchy questions. I meant short pithy questioned. Whether we're the soviet thord his she questions. And i meant short pithy questions not thorpe and you went to yale. I never leave. Larry and i never. That never happened. The mom all right so anyway questions every. We're gonna do this every thursday so but today is wednesday and we had an opening somebody died from the pirate pandemic and we said you know what if they're dead. We don't want him as a guest. Let's just our own thing so we're going to do in the next segment ask metaxas. We've got some amazing questions. And i want to warn people that i'm gonna post on my instagram story every wednesday. We're going to be posting these things so get ready. Have i mentioned neutral. Medics yes thirty percent so as go to our website. He will need to be very clear on this. It's always twenty percent. And i'm not exaggerating. Because i was canceled on youtube. Our friends at new traumatic said. How can we help you. And then they said here's what we're gonna do. We're going to give your listeners. Thirty percent off. They're losing money on. This is my guess. So this is a gift from them to you to get you to try neutral medics. So if you use the code eric. Thirty percent off i. When does this end like today. I think it's at the end of the week. They extended extended it. Yeah they just wanna be clear. I'm not joking. Yeah nutriments dot com. Put in the code eric. She'll be thirty percent off but it goes back to twenty. So now's your chance to check it out as you know my pillow in my store dot com. Use the code eric. Freedom Is Not a Free Ride: Taking America Back With Secretary of State Mike Pompeo

"I really think that you know when you when you see what's happening in america today you realize this is kind of a classic pattern. God allows things to go too far as i said earlier to wake his people up and the enemy always plays in his hands and goes just a little bit too far and then suddenly people wake up. I never thought it would get this bad this quickly but it seems that it has taken the madness. I mean whether we're talking about antifa or the transgender madness. I mean most americans if they can finally focus they look they say. Wait a minute. But bruce jenner is a woman. You're telling me. I have to use this pronoun. You're telling the people burning down buildings aren't doing anything wrong. They're peaceful protesters. Notice your average american voice the way you do. I do looks around and says this has gone too far. Madness has been unleashed on the land. I need to do something for my kids for my grandkids. I thought freedom was a free ride. And i realize now have to pick up my gun and go to the phone lines. Maybe not literally. But it's a similar thing you realize that everything you held near and dear is being threatened directly when your kids are being threatened. Said you don't care you're gonna do whatever it takes. It's about the kids. You know the instinct you know what the lord and teaches us about parenting. The parents aren't about to take out a lot. They're not about to allow this to happen in their schools. They may not seen it. 'cause they worked but you know. I think the combination of having the kids at home during kobe. I think the left's movement. I think the idea somehow that our country was founded the sixteen nineteen project. This this idea that we're were racist because we're white this is some parents are not going to sit back and allow to be propagated. And so it'll take a little time to regain control of the city. Councils of the school boards of these state boards reaches that ladder university system to become american universities today. They're largely not american and frankly not the kind of university anybody would be proud of. I think people are gonna take this all back in. What they need is good leaders. Who are fearless. Helping them figure out where to apply their shoulder to the grindstone. We know choices

"Of those destruction creation moments in history that we haven't seen in our lifetimes there's been nothing like and so is there. Is this sifting. Where the people that i would have thought were on our team. I now know are just playing ball to play all stay in power. They're kind of reading. The tea leaves finger in the wind. There are as i said earlier. Very few people who are committed to a make america great again for lack of a better term agenda who understand that we can no longer play politics as usual. It's just. It's just not going to work if we're not willing to fight. Trump was to me the ultimate warrior willing to take on. You know whether it's the deep state or whatever. Well how do you feel about that. Because we really aren't a strange moment. Where you can't say this but i can i think mitch mcconnell's skunk. I think kevin mccarthy is no better. I look at these people i thought they were on my side and realize they're not the kind of warriors we need. How do you see the party going forward when we have so many people that they simply don't seem committed when the chips are down so let me say to. The bible talks about this. It's actually about these times. Where there you talked about sifting. There's a time where those who are truly prepared to follow. Jesus and not just doing it because it's the cool thing to do well we'll find their way and the lord will reveal this. I see that happening all across the country today. I see some folks. Frank that i thought were friends. Who thought i was crazy for joining the trump administration. Goodness gracious even after you. Why did you stay. i stayed. Because he's hitler two point. Oh what is wrong with you. Having read my book. it's all laid out for everybody. Hitler two point zero run. These are my friends. These are people. I knew i knew what we were doing. I knew the mission set. That i had been given and i had this incredible privilege. And it's time it's time for the fearless. There's no time for the make that this is. This is america's moment what's taking place in our schools the crime in our cities. All of these things that we can say unraveling this most exceptional nation it fan for the real believers in the real conservatives to step forward and be absolutely fearless in doing so and obviously you know this is to me. Always god's mercy he lets things get really really bad to wake his people. And i see that happening in this country right now. That people are tolerant. People are loving. People are kind but eventually if you push them far enough and it takes a long time they finally say wait a minute wait a minute and now they're involved so you have things happening on local levels. Everybody just thought you know what trump's in office we're moving in a direction we realize as a result of is. I believe the election was genuinely stolen and it sickens me. Even to think that that might be true. It sickens me. But i think a lot of americans have woken up and so we don't even know what is going on in the grass roots level. Because you can't keep track of everything. But i think people are rising up and they're looking for folks like you and a handful of others in congress and they're saying we can. We can no longer do business as as usual. But i mean ten years ago. You're not thinking like oh no you nailed it hugh absolutely by the way i can give you two data points from the last forty eight hours. I was in south west missouri. At the ashcroft family farming it was a picnic outdoor poured rain right about an hour before the picnic. Nobody left they left. They gave me a chance. That game journey janet. Former attorney general ashcroft talk about the bible and the america and what we were all going to go through. These people. Were on fire to take back and i had people come up side. Never thought i'd run for.

"Fascinating to me. I i keep saying that. We're at a real threshing moment. In america dividing and we're seeing because of trump and i really believe it was god's hand using trump a destruction and creation where we're seeing it a one of those destruction creation moments in history that we haven't seen in our lifetimes there's been nothing like and so is there. Why did you

"They're gonNA. Let you grow a little bit but I found myself many times. Just being frustrated like he's going to make this mistake again. Didn't he make that in season two and didn't I learn something? It's like. Gets Blurry you're kind of defending yourself or I would be or I'll tell you. I. Had a storyline where. I had my first baby and I wasn't connecting to it and I was like. Why am I? That guy I loved my baby I love my fucking babies from day one and this other story were dads this. Are we perpetuating that like I should be head over heels for this you know and I'm finding from my own identity, my own ego and I'm trying to recognize that in respect show creator, but it gets more complicated than one would maybe think. It's definitely challenging. You know and I think the story line has something to do with it and it's interesting because did you at any point? You feel like the writers were just fucking with you? Oh No, they did. Once I had my daughter, we named her Lincoln, and then soon as that next season started, I had a girlfriend named Lincoln like there was another girl named Lincoln yet it's I won't expound too much on this because I'll get in trouble because there's definitely some crazy shit that goes on with respect people are experience things in their real life, and then all of a sudden on the show and the characters going through something and it's torturing this poor person in real life. You guys think it's okay to do it on the show because you're gonNA get some amazing performance out of it. There is some sort of sadistic thing that goes on and I have so many writer friends and I, Love Writers and let's They're brilliant genius, but they have heavy lifting to write. On shows they have heavy lifting because they have to come up with these storylines week after week after week for these characters, they're boxed in to writing for archetypes..

"But I guarantee you that once they had that precedent of compelling companies to go along with this they will a guy like bill and his Justice Department will stop nowhere in wanting to get into people's phones. It is not worth the cost of people's privacy and civil liberties for the additional convenience for investigators have an easier way into people's funds yes Let's talk about Mike Pompeo for a bit so late last Friday night. President trump fired a guy named Steve Clinic. Whose State Department Inspector General in the latest Loyalty perk that's happening across the government so for listeners. Inspector General is supposed to be an internal watchdog within the executive branch within the agencies. They are political appointees but they operate independently. They often get tips from whistleblowers about corruption or mistakes from mismanagement and they're supposed to work with the agencies and with Congress to investigate the incident and then make them public it's a position that was created after Watergate as part of those reforms so recently trump has just been systematically removing these I G at criticize him and replacing them with in this case we know that Secretary of state. Mike Pompeo asked trump to fire Olympic. The State Department I G so POMPEO did interview with the Washington Post. He said that Lennox work with somehow undermining the mission of the department but he didn't explain how trump was later asset a press event why he fired clinic and he said. I don't know I don't know anything about him. So really a compelling. So ben here's some possible reasons pump hale may have wanted him fired first. Win was reportedly investigating whether Peyot had improperly used State Department staff to. Do you know personal errands. Like pick up his food or dry cleaning or like his dog at the groomer literally the House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman. Eliot Engel said he had asked clinic the I G to investigate whether POMPEO had improperly sold billions of dollars with a weapons to guess who the Saudis. So we're going to buy one. But regardless I mean trump is required to notify congress about the removal of an I g and provide a detailed justification for it and has not yet done so so then. Let's there with the allegation. That POMPEO was asking staffed. Just do personal errands for him because some people might hear that in think like what's the big deal. He's a busy guy. Lots of people ask their assistant to make a reservation at a restaurant or whatever the issue is when you're talking about any federal employees it is illegal so it's a big deal. A whistle blower told Congress that POMPEO's diplomatic security agents call themselves ubereats with guns because they're constantly asked to pick up. Mike takeout orders on Monday. Trump was asked about these allegations. He said quote. I'd rather have him on the phone with some world leader than having washed dishes because maybe his wife isn't there so just bringing some blatant sexism into it bringing the patriarchy yeah This also dovetails with broader criticism that we've talked about before that. Pompeii was misused. State Department resources by taking three official quote Unquote State Department trips to Kansas. When he was considering a run for a Senate seat there so then you know two questions about this piece of the story. How big a deal do you think these allegations are in? And why do you think Pompeo seems to be able to whether these kinds of abuse of power allegations when other cabinet officials have been fired pretty quickly? Well first of all just the fact that you would remove the inspector general because the person who runs the State Department doesn't like it kind of runs completely counter to the spirit of having inspectors general like the people who get investigated. Don't get to decide that they no longer would like to be investigated I look. I think that there's a clearly at an issue of of Pompeo essentially kind of personalizing the use of State Department resources. That is troubling. Look any any buddy who runs. The State Department has the basic tension of the fact that they're they're running a large sprawling government department not unlike the Pentagon although not as big with mostly career people career civil servants and farm servants. And they're supposed to be a line between you know someone's personal or political interest and what that large department is doing and with pompeo. Everybody can focus on the streets with guns. I think it's the broad pattern. Essentially of he's using all these different resources to fly himself to Kansas or taking his family on trips. Or Yeah maybe having. These people do errands for him. I don't think that's the issue here. In fact I think pompeo wants to make that the issue. He tweeted some picture of himself with his dog is much more dangerous and unethical behavior. That was likely being investigated and POMPEO. Trump would be happy to have a good old argument about whether or not. It's okay for you. Know some diplomatic security agents to pick up dry cleaning from Tayo and complain about liberal bed. Who Don't like that I so so I think it's problematic but actually don't think it's the core issue here and I think the frankly Pompeii or would rather have an argument about whether people walked his dog then have an argument about whether he basically broke the law to expedite billions of dollars in weapons deliveries to Saudi Arabia over the objections of Congress. So let's talk about the Saudi thing then so I agree with you like the Saudi arms dealer issue is much bigger deal so here. Here's a quick story. Last year POMPEO was working on a deal to sell eight billion dollars worth of arms to Saudi Arabia in the UA. But there was bipartisan opposition to the Saudi peace of that sale because they had just murdered a journalist named Jamal Kashogi and because the Saudi led war in Yemen had become a humanitarian disaster and these arms were probably destined for that theater of war so by Lottie executive branches required to give Congress thirty days notice about their intent to sell arms to a foreign country during that time. Congress can block the sale. So what Pompeo did you reference was really shady. He declared a national emergency which allowed him to skip the congressional review process and fast track these arm sales so he claimed the emergency was a threat from Iran. But you the way you know that's bullshit because some of these weapons weren't even ready to be delivered for a year so some emergency there so now. I'm no expert in arm sales but some experts. I read suggested he might have broken a couple of law. So I there's the Arms Export Control Act two pieces of that I. He went around Congress which is legal in second. You have to ensure that the arms are for legitimate self-defense reasons and it's not clear that they were also may have violated the Foreign Assistance Act. Which says you can't sell arms to a country to be human rights abuser and there was this big piece in the Times over the weekend. But how jared Kushner and like a right wing you know White House Economic Advisor named Peter Navarro have been pushing arm sales as just solely jobs program right like these guys have no foreign policy experience interest in you humanitarian or diplomatic impact. It's just about like the defense industry and Mark Asper. The Secretary of defense is a raytheon former raytheon lobbyists so then Obama oversaw a lot of foreign military sales right including so the Saudis. The Times piece noted that Obama average thirty six billion a year in arms sales during his second term trump has averaged fifty one billion a year. So it's huge increase so like you know back to what you're getting Alec. How big a deal do you think this emergency declaration is by Pompeo? Is that end run around Congress and then how is this arms sale process supposed to work so I imagine you were in a ton of meetings where these were considered and vetted and either approved or not? Well yeah first of all. I think there's normally supposed to be a process right. Where essentially the State Department has to license an arms deal Going forward right and this can be in. Many cases can be a fairly routine exercise. Right where Defense contractors or you know working with foreign governments and then the State Department is licensing and arm sale. It's notified to Congress. Congress has a period to raise some objections. If there are foreign policy considerations that come into play then this might get discussed in the situation room. Sometimes there weren't sometimes this routine but for a relationship like Saudi Arabia and certainly with like a hot button issue like Yemen. It's a kind of thing that would go through an interagency discussion process. Should this go forward but then it still has to be licensed by the State Department and notified to Congress. What is so notable here? Right is is first of all. They've gotten rid of any pretense that this is anything but a corrupt enterprise in the sense at Raytheon depends on Saudi Arabia for a significant chunk of its business. The former top lobbyist at Raytheon is now the secretary of Defense of the United States. Donald trump when asked about Saudi behavior like the killing of Jamal Kashogi or the killing of tens of thousands of civilians in Yemen consistently says well they're giving us a lot of money so they're not you know they're not hiding the basically the priority here is the Saudis write checks and their sell them weapons and if those weapons are used to kill children and innocent civilians they could care less what what this introduces the further point. Though that they basically blown up the process including the legal process. They're supposed to go through. And so you have a situation where trump is ignored repeated and veto repeated congressional efforts to stop these arm sales to Yemen then. He ignored the requirement to even notify. Congress anticipating the objections he get and essentially trumped up a fake emergency. Because there's no emergency today. The situation in Yemen situation with Iran has basically been an escalating mass for years. There's not any reason that this is now. Suddenly an emergency. The only reason to do that would be to avoid that congressional scrutiny and it just sounds like since. Pompeo took over the State Department. They've got into the State Department's normal process of reviewing these things so we we have the fact that there's a fundamentally corrupted relationship between the United States and Saudi Arabia. We have the fact now that they are basically ignoring any kind of process that they are supposed to go through their legally compelled to go through in order to move forward with an arm sale. And it makes you wonder what might inspector general discover if he started poking around? What kinds of conversations has Mike Pompeo had with people? Where does he directed people to do? Has He directed people to violate laws or protocols? What possible corruption might there be between trump officials and the Saudis? You know what is happening. Is there a whistle blower who might have some awareness of the corruption between a jared Kushner or Mike pompeo and the Saudi government? Because the the the hard truth is no matter. What the Saudis do no matter? How bad this war in. Yemen goes the arms sales just keep increasing and no matter what the congressional scrutiny right so clearly. Pompeo minimus flouting what he should have been doing as normal process and notifying congress. The question is just how nefarious it goes. Yeah we have not heard the end of this story. I mean it sounds like this spectre general might have been at the very end of his work on this exact investigation into this arm sale. So I'm glad that angle is is sounding the alarm. Hopefully we learn more information soon. Because you know that's a big problem. Yeah and look angles been pretty cautious member of Congress. I would frankly like to see him. Be More aggressive about these things. I'm glad he's doing this but you know like this is. This is one of the biggest unanswered questions of the trump presidency. Just what is going on between them and the Saudis is there. Money involved is a real estate dealings involved. Are there promises about a post-presidency windfall for the trump family involved? What the Hell is going on? Because it is not in America's interest to be shoveling these weapons out the door to a country that is using them to bomb Yemen into smithereens. Kill all these innocent civilians and not achieve any of their stated objectives with respect Uranian influence..

Thanks so much for listening today on the podcast Pun Peyot in the spotlight Donald Trump's secretary of state reversed course today and decided to make clear for everyone everyone to know in his own words that he was indeed on the July twenty fifth phone call that President Trump was having with Ukrainian president Zielinski Alinsky. This is the phone call at the heart of the impeachment inquiry going on in the House of Representatives because Donald Trump was asking the Ukrainian Ukrainian president to investigate his potential political rival in the twenty twenty election Joe Biden and his family his son hunter. I want you to hear the secretary every State Pompeo today while traveling abroad he had a news conference in Rome and I want you to hear how he answered the question about about the phone call and which he is at the center of now in many ways because not only was he on the call but he is also responding to requests from Congress for Word Document production and State Department testimony in which he wrote a letter to the House of Representatives to the House Democrats saying this was bullying and intimidation mutation and that he wasn't going to comply with all of these requests and he needed more time so not only was he on the call but he also is proving to be we sort of the first battleground of the impeachment inquiry in terms of a real engaged adversarial relationship here here between the executive branch and the legislative branch in this impeachment matter. This is the first pushback official capacity pushback back from the administration about what the House is requesting but first. I want you to hear Secretary of State. Mike Pompeo in Rome today when asked about the now infamous July twenty fifth trump Zielinski phone call this relates to the Ukraine situation in what's going on on the hill first of all. Is it correct that you were on the phone. Call that president trump had with president is Alinsky on July twenty fifth and if so are the accounts that we've all seen of it including the transcript or partial transcript released by the White House accurate and complete and if you were on the call. Did you hear anything on that. In the conversation that raised a red flag anything inappropriate or anything that gave you any concerns and then secondly as for was on the phone call was on the phone call the phone on call was in the context of now been secretary of State for coming on a year and a half. I know precisely what the American policy with respect to you crank frank. It's been remarkably consistent and we will continue to try to drive those set of outcomes. It's what our team included. Including embassador Volcker or focused on was taking down a threat that Russia poses there in Ukraine it was about helping the Ukrainians to get graft out and corruption outside of their government and to help now this new government in the Ukraine and build a successful thriving economies what the State Department officials that I had the privilege to lead have been engaged in this what we will continue to do even while all this noise is going on now. That sounds a lot different than how Mike Pompeo sounded ten days ago. Remember the phone call that he was on an aware of the details because he was on it and heard it all was July twenty fifth ten days ago Martha Raddatz on ABC News is this week asked Pompeo ao about the call and he chose to completely dodge her question about his knowledge of the call and instead just punt in say she read Adema Wall Street Journal story about a whistle blower complaint neither of which he had read any left there talk about ally of mission he did not do what he did now ten days later admit and own up to the fact and go public with the fact that he was on the call here was Pompeo just ten days ago and I want to turn to this whistleblower complaint. Mister secretary the complained involving the president and a phone call with the four and leader to the director of National Intelligence Inspector Inspector General. That's where the complaint was lodged by the whistleblower. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that president trump pressed the president of Ukraine eight times to work work with Rudy Giuliani to investigate Joe Biden son. What do you know about those conversations so you just gave me a report about a I see whistleblower campaign none of which I've seen I can tell you about this administration's policy but let me let me let me ask you this question in Ukrainian presidential readout of the convers conversation said they discussed quote investigation of corruption cases which inhibited the interaction between Ukraine Crane and the US say the President tweeted Saturday. It was perfectly fine and respectful conversation. Do you think it's perfectly fine to ask a foreign leader to investigate a political opponent. I think I saw statement from the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. I said there was no pressure applied in the course of the conversation and there's there's one more reason why Mike Pompeo his State Department is at the very center of today's impeachment inquiry developments and that is because somebody who operates independently from Pompeo at the State Department the Inspector General there is up on Capitol Hill today I think the three o'clock pm eastern our to brief several committees and as you know most of congress is out on recess. This will be mostly to staff behind closed is doors. I just want you to hear the language in the State Department. I jeez request for this briefing. Steve Lynch is the State Department I g he asked asked for an urgent briefing and he made it clear that this was related to the Ukraine matter her he according to the letter sent to the hill yesterday wants to quote provide staff with copies of documents related to the State Department and and Ukraine. This is an urgent briefing now. One Congressional aide described this request as quote highly unusual unusual and cryptically word it now. We have no idea this is the big mystery of the day. We have no idea what it is. The State Department Inspector General wants to tell Congress what was urgent and related to the State Department in Ukraine that he felt the need that these congressional committees needed to know urgently and and see these documents. We have no idea if this is something that is going to bolster the president's case in his defense against what House Democrats are seeking or or if this is going to add to the pile of evidence that House Democrats are already massing impeachment inquiry. What we do know is that he's going up there to break so we we will hopefully learn after the facts into will happen behind closed doors but we will hopefully learn the crux of what the inspector general needed to go up there so urgently an informed the committee so Mike Pompeo and his State Department is at the very core of this. We're going to hear tomorrow from Kurt Volcker the former former special envoy to Ukraine who resigned last week. Did he resign from pressure to do so. Is this somebody who when he arranged for Rudy Giuliani to meet Ukrainian counterparts did he have full knowledge of the request for investigation into the Biden's as part of that or not this is going to being a key witness to understand sort of the Giuliani connection to all of this since he seems to be the intermediary that that was able to connect Giuliani on the Ukrainians and just what Volker knew how much he understood what Donald Trump was interested in which he made abundantly clear in that ally twenty-fifth phone call which by the way did not match a national security administration posture about Ukraine the way that Mike Pompeo described it in Rome today today. If you just read the transcript just read the transcript that the White House put out you see the Donald Trump's mission in that phone call was twofold he wanted to get the Ukrainian president to work with Bill Bar and investigate this conspiracy theory that the Ukrainians hacked into the DNC and that it was to help Hillary Clinton versus Russians interfering with the election to help donald trump that was the basis of the Mueller probe and Donald Trump wants to up and that and so one he was looking backwards to the two thousand sixteen election to test and get information on this theory that there is a server in Ukraine that the hack started in Ukraine and that it was really all that on behalf of the Clinton campaign and to he wanted dirt on Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden and hunters role on the board of an energy company that it was doing business in Ukraine so that's pretty clear what Donald Trump wanted on July twenty fifth phone. Call just read the transcript. That's not how Mike Pompeo was portraying it but this initial skirmish of Mike pompeo resisting certain State Department officials or documents from being produced under subpoena from from the House. This is the beginning of a long battle back and forth between the House Democrats and the administration as they pursued this impeachment inquiry and and Mike Pompeo is now catching up with the record and the reporting that is out there so that he can get on the record and say yes indeed he was on that call so that he can get square with all the facts before he is deeper into this as some house. Democrats have pointed out. He actually may be a fact win this in this. Mike Pompeo clearly early playing the role of the loyal lieutenant to the president he serves. There's no indication that he is looking in some way to separate himself from the the president on this matter yet no indication of that but he's also clearly trying to get in a place where he can serve as that loyal soldier while also so sticking to a fact pattern that he can back up and having no knowledge of the call was not a fact pattern he could back up because he was on the call as he admitted today that does it for this edition of the daily. Thank you all so much for listening hope. You'll tune in again right here tomorrow. Are you interested in learning how great companies grow.

"Hey guys you've heard the youngsters podcast because you're listening to right now but make sure you subscribe and give it a five star rating if you like it thank you for Listening Jersey. Eh Do better okay so do we have devastating facts on Donald Trump of course we do. Are we going to take glee in them. No this is so minded show about the facts. We're GONNA HAVE A lot of fun headline in media. It's been like on the front page for or a few days. Now it's something along. The Lines of Democrats shouldn't celebrate the impeachment of Donald Trump this for other folks parade in American American history but but okay anyway so we will celebrate it with Glee and shot and Forte okay here goes to eleven okay so we've got a lot of that but also here comes birdie no see John. Don't call it a comeback except kind of so I got three facts for you guys one better than the next for the whole show for the whole three hours to notify you. Get your three hours on it. I cash okay. I can't and I will anyway so we got Bernie calendar. We've got great guests Abby Martin's on the show with an amazing new movie about what's happening in the Gaza Strip and then of course Bananas Post Game Okay so let's do it because we got a ton of show for you. All right the secretary of state. Mike pompeo remains defiant defiant when it comes to subpoenas by congressional Democrats who of course would like to speak with him and get some information about his involvement in the trump Ukraine call now earlier it was reported that Pompilio said he knew nothing about the call he was completely in the dark doc and then yesterday news broke indicating that Pompeo was actually listening in on Donald Trump's phone conversation with Vladimir's Alinsky who was of course the Ukrainian president and later up to say to the other is is such that he wasn't the dark. You're listening to all this is really good man. Hold on. I'm really enjoying this man all talking about by again again by eh but look the gives you a sense of what hilarious liars they are. He's like I have not seen the memo that describes the call and no I did not read the whistleblower so Bo complaint yeah look it's partly about you would imagine you should read it but he's a donor any of that then two days later dude you're on the call. Well okay okay. That's true so Various House committees that are conducting these investigations as part of the impeachment inquiry you have subpoenaed members of the State Department and Pompeo has responded to that by saying that nope were We're not going to cooperate cooperate until we obtain further clarity on these matters and for his part pompeo is arguing haven't done anything wrong. Take a look the president's lawyer Mr Julius that that the State Department instructed him to get involved with Ukraine to reach out to presence Alinsky and his aides it. Is that correct me if so what exactly was he told to do by the State Department to the best of my knowledge for what I've seen so far each of the the actions that were undertaken by State Department officials was entirely appropriate and consistent with the objective that we've had certainly since this new government has come into office now. Yesterday we shared a story about how senior aides and Biden's campaign are arguing that cable news networks and television stations should no longer book Rudy Giuliani to comment on this whole controversy because he keep spreading misinformation conspiracy theories about Biden. Now I would argue that that's actually a really bad move based on principle and also just based on strategy because Giuliani is the one who's going on cable news incriminating members of the State State Department. If you don't remember that take a look at this next video she has resigned. Do you know why I don't know why Kurt resigned. I I mean there. I think there are a lot of people in the State Department who maybe have questions about what he did and why he did it but I should tell you. He wasn't the only one he was joined by another ambassador. Who Talk Talk to me? debrief me gave me information about what to ask Mr Mr Euromac do this on my own. I did it at the request of the State Department by the State Department. You know you were doing these things. Thanks not ask you to do these things. He did not Mr Mr Volcker did and then missed a son wounded but when I talked to the secretary last week he said he was aware of told me that he was aware of love this. I love this cat fight and it's right for everybody a national. TV Giuliani is throwing the State Department under the bus so pump Pao's saying like call well call I never heard of it right and Giuliani's going out there and be like Oh yeah. Here's the the tax from the State Department and it's Volcker and it's this guy at Pompeii. Oh told me last week he knows about it and so everybody's in the you're and everybody's gotTa ship and so they're like everybody's waiting out all over the place. It's all over television and then meanwhile trump and his troubles online like nothing to see. What do you mean I the real problem is the Democrats right? You see what I'm saying. Nobody sees what you're saying. You guys are lunatics and it's on display play for everyone and so if you're wondering why. Why are they shooting each other? What is what's going on here? Because Giuliani is saying to the State Department you better not throw me under the bus saying that I went to Ukraine without permission and started conducting shadow foreign policy and I'm the bad guy and I committed illegal elax Ne you told me to do it and here's the tax and at center he's got more threats coming up later right and then meanwhile pompeo's is in bigger. You're trouble 'cause it's one thing just looney toon Giuliani's running around Eastern Europe going man documents on on Soros and Biden and whatever goes. That's exactly how it okay but it's another thing if the State Department is authorizing trips that are not on behalf of the United States government but on behalf of Donald Trump is a person and as a politician that could be more more problematic and illegal so that's why pump here in a cold sweat was dark room. I don't I don't know what happened. What are you doing rudy? What are you doing so palm? Pails first strategy which obviously didn't work was to lie about what he knew or what his involvement was in the communications between Donald Trump and Vladimir Muir's Alinsky and then once news broke indicating that he was listening in on that call he decided to change course and essentially tell these various House committees that he will will not cooperate with their subpoenas so I'm curious to see how these committees respond to that because there has been strong language in regard to two refusals to cooperate they claim that they will hold individuals in contempt of Congress will see if that happens but I do WanNa play like one more clip again. This is a clip that we've shown you in previous shows but it features Rudy Giuliani again incriminating the State Department. This is from September twenty six take a look are oh you rudy concerned that year on necessarily dragging his name into this whose name volkers them name yes. He should step forward and explain what he did. I went to meet this Alinsky. Aid at the request is to the State Department fifteen memo's make that clear tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick look when the rats are screwing are scurrying around the ship like no no you go in for all get out of here. I'm going to get on a lifeboat first. Well then you've got issues here and and when when you're doing it in front of everybody people can see the panic I could smell the republican panic in the morning and it smells disgusting too at the same time. It's like a Roka for cheese so yeah what is that but hold on we try the my favorite line from Peyot who wrote a letter to these committees was the following he argues that these Democrats rats are attempting to intimidate bully and treat improperly the distinguished professionals of the Department of State. Oh yes I'm so glad you read that. That was my favorite line too so what I love this the distinguished professionals of the Department of State no Mike. He's talking about you so he's referring himself is congress trying to intimidate distinguished professionals such as myself who only two calls in the dark the good luck with that son. Hey somebody book rudy again. Get more damage you can do well speaking of Rudy our next story talks about him and how he's facing a subpoena. I never talked to him. Ukrainian official until the State Department called me and asked me the show it and then I reported every conversation back to them and Laura. I'm pretty good lawyer just a country lawyer but it's all here right here. the the first call from the State Department well trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani flaunting and boasting about the fact that he has evidence and recordings of a member of the State Department has led to a subpoena toward Giuliani now Various House committees have subpoenaed Giuliani in order to testify shared share documents in regard to this impeachment inquiry and the subpoena does require Giuliani to produce communications including text messages and phone records records regarding Biden's son Hunter who served on the Board of the Ukrainian energy company and efforts by Giuliani or his associate associates to pressure current or former Ukrainian officials to investigate matters regarding biden or any other American so this was sent to him by various chairman on on committees that are investigating Donald Trump and doing this impeachment inquiry to first of all when he grabbed the phone to put up on air. Yes because I thought there was a twenty twenty four percent. She hasn't was accidentally GONNA show board. Servers are always like we're family. Values these some bitch liberals and see look at my life anybody's voting on anybody's phone okay. Oh come on show to me shows to me it. There's at eight and now they don't put up your vote on TV. It's a terrible idea. Okay so and if you if you are are going around and say hey I got the documents on my phone guess what's going to happen. You'RE GONNA subpoena for those documents and so I'm GONNA laugh my ass off when Rudy psyched doc documents what name so he's I don't have any documents dude TV so you're right here right here and you think he won't turn around. He's a clown so it's really a wild card who knows what he actually has. Whether there really is dirt on State Department officials who he claims he worked with in order to do this investigation into Joe Biden but the chairmen of these committees also as Giuliani to hand over communications regarding. US FOREIGN ASSISTANCE TO UKRAINE REMEMBER DONALD TRUMP had a put a freeze on that foreign assistance and any efforts to withhold withhold or delay it now Giuliani was asked whether or not he plans on cooperating with the subpoena and here's what he told Sean Hannity Did you testify because Jay seculars absolutely right. Do you have to do anything weighing the alternatives. I'm kind of like go through it. I'll get all my evidence together. I'll get my shorts. I don't know if they let me use video tapes and tape recordings that I have if they okay let me get some of the evidence that I gather talk about the insane double standard when it comes to responding to a subpoena if any other average American goes on television or makes public statements about like really really considering whether or not I'm going to cooperate with subpoena neuro..

The other secretary of state with all due respect point Paolino's the Intel because he was former CIA chief needs combining it with foreign policy. Any can handle these senators. Really, really. Well, I'll give you one important example, the chairman, Bob corker Republic from Tennessee, despises Trump. So corker immediately cast aspersions on the president, right? And his opening remarks. And then he throws it over to Mendez Menendez the democratic Senator from New Jersey, to guy who got all kinds of trouble ethically who doesn't like Trump either. So you got a one to Trump's in idiot on foreign policy. Pompeo sitting there going, look. Our policies are strong. They're working. And we're correcting the mistakes of the Obama administration. That's what Pompeii was going to say to anything. All right. After five minutes, I said, I got it. They kept hammering what what was said in the Putin Trump meeting the private meeting what was said, what was said, you know what we said and Pompeii. Oh, said, yeah, I know because I had a discussion with President Trump. Well, what was it in Papa goes, I'm going to tell you that was a private conversation between the president and his secretary of state which president is That allowed.
