Padres take two wins against Giants in doubleheader

"What an afternoon on. Sunday. For the padres they sweep a doubleheader from the giants and extend their winning streak to seven consecutive games. The padres will finish twenty twenty over five hundred for the first time. Since twenty ten s San, Diego moved to thirty one and seventeen with a couple of very impressive wins on Sunday afternoon six nothing in game one by my cleven jer three, one in game two behind some clutch hitting three relievers. Behind Garrett Richards and the padres absolutely rolling into their huge series this upcoming week against the La Dodgers. This is the wrap up show with John for and Jim. Russell. If you're not following us on social media, please do that at twitter at John Shaffer at Jim Russell. St. Over the next hour, we're gonNA hear from the manager Jay's Tingler we'll hear from my clovinger as well LS scores and we'll get you set for the massive. At PETCO Park against La the begins on Monday and six ten. But what a weekend Jim, we didn't know if the momentum would be halted as the padres didn't play Friday and Saturday, because of a false positive in the giants organization but the Padres pick up right where they were and they've won seven consecutive games. Yeah. A couple days off may have actually helped team to be honest with you and they got to sweep today. Kinda like. Easy I to me it did it to me. It felt like there's no doubt in my mind that not only the Padres, the better team, but they're going to win these games. They're gonNA to find a way to win in the second game there, and then the first game I tweet this out after the third inning, I'll like this feels like clovinger I'm just GonNa go seven complete this game type outing for him and which he did he went seven. Felt Kinda effortless almost when you look at the box score complete game seven strikeouts only one walk only giving up two hits like that's the Mike Levin show that this team traded for and who they hope they get in the postseason is a guy that's going to give you seven innings going to not allow any runs couple couple hits given up. strikeout seven plus only walk one it was it was his best as a padre so far and couldn't have come at a better time. And then game to like it was you know giant scored I there but to me I was like, all right. You know I felt that they were gonNA come back and win that game somehow, and it wasn't pretty will myers at a home run. But other than that the other ones they scored wasn't pretty how they did it but still they got the job done and their bullpen. John, this is a strength of the team. Now it's incredible because it's been nine days. So the first twenty, three games of the year, the padres bullpen was six point four, eight, the last twenty, three games coming into today two, point, seven five and the bullpen today two and two third innings of one hit no run baseball Tim Hills now three. Now he was the winning pitcher in game two drew pomeranz not allowed to run JIM this year and fifteen scoreless innings and Trevor Rosenthal was able to work around two out error committed by Fernando Totti's junior. To Work School. seventh-inning for his tenth save and third with the chargers. If there's one thing we saw over the course of these two games and maybe over the seven game winning streak is that Fernando Totti's junior is a human. You know he wasn't GonNa hit three fifty all year. He wasn't GonNa hit thirty five home runs and sixty games you know he For the first time, maybe as a professional at the big league level actually slumping, he's one for fifteen. Now, in his last five games, the Patriots won all of those games. So that's the good news.

Boston Red Sox Trade Relievers Workman, Hembree To Philadelphia Phillies

"We saw that the was it the red sox today traded with Philly Philly's a couple relievers went to Philadelphia today couple of relievers that are actually tied to the padres actually going to the Phillies, Brandon Workman, I believe they're closer went to the phillies earlier today there was another reliever heath, every Wednesday phillies as well so. Again the phillies bullpen has been the worst bullpen and baseball they wanted to share it up to some extent. They think that they should be one of the eight national teams in the postseason and I wanna see aj pro treat this trade deadline like he believes this team that this team can do something in the postseason and ghosts and go far and go deep in the postseason. I don't want this trade deadline to be treated like well I don't want them mortgage the future because we can't trade from the entirety of our farm system so. We're going to have to deal with what we got right now and hope POMERANZ goes back. No I WANNA see age. April are out there will

An insight into Kamala Harris, a potential VP for Biden

"I am Jonathan Kaye. Part AND WELCOME TO CAPE UP. Long before people started swooning over Congressman. Val demings of Florida as a possible vice president. Joe Biden folks. We're talking about senator. Kamla Harris California back in January twenty nineteen few weeks before Harris announced her own since disbanded presidential campaign. I sat with her in front of a live audience at George Washington University for the kickoff tour. For her the truth we hold because Harris's book is a memoir. Our conversation was heavy on stories about parents upbringing and her career. There's no better way to get to know this possible vice president than listening right now. Senator Harris thank you very much for for being here for choosing Washington to be the kickoff of your book tour and or actually to be correct books tour and as we see the truths we hold an American journey and then also superheroes are everywhere. I'm going to focus on the truths we hold k. And I'm going to focus on something that happens before even page one and I want to clear it up. Okay for anyone who might have done this or still doing this. Despite hearing it said correctly the first time pronounce your name Carmela so just think of like the punctuation Mark Comma and that Adalah and there you got and so then what does communism mean then. So it's a very traditional classic Indian name and it derives from Sanskrit and it's it means the lotus flower and so it's very prevalent and a lot of Asian cultures and the idea the symbolism. Is that the Lotus flowers sits on water but it never really gets wet. The water beats off of it and so the idea being that one can be in the midst of chaos or be in the midst of something happening and and be there and should be there and it doesn't necessarily need to penetrate you but one should be there and equally important Its roots are in the mud meaning. It is grounded and and one must always know where they come from and can still be this thing now. I need you to pronounce another name for me for the life of me. I just I couldn't do it. And that is the name of your mother Shammala. So the why is silent Shama Sharmila what was really Shamlan? Go Gopala tell us about your mom. Caller Mommy Mommy. We always called her. Mommy I am not embarrassed to say she is mommy and She is in many ways. The reason I wrote the book my sister my is here My Mother's one of her best friends from college is here. Lenore POMERANZ I write about in the book and my mother was a force of nature. A drill force of nature. She is someone who all five feet of her. If you met her after you walked away you would have thought she was seven Tom. My mother was a truth teller. She spoke the truth. She was probably the smartest toughest and most loving person I've ever known. She raised her daughters with a belief that we could do and be anything. She taught us that. Don't let people tell you who you are and you tell them who you are. She was a scientist. Breast cancer researcher should goals in her life to end breast cancer and raise her two daughters and she would take us to the lab with her at go after school on the weekends and being around scientists one of the things that I realize now early in my life I learned was that one should see what can be unburdened by what has been because that is science is about. It's the pursuit of those things that will improve the condition of life. That will solve problems. That will make things better. And that's why I'm naturally attracted to also anything that is about innovation understanding that innovation. We do it not because we're bored with things the way they've been but because we should always be in pursuit of being more efficient more effective more relevant and and that's what she is and was your father. Donald Harris also an immigrant born born in Jamaica. Yeah an economics professor at Stanford. And let's David. Mind comes from some BRAINIAC parents. Your mom got her. He H D. The year you were born does put that out there so now your dad comes to the United States from Jamaica. Yeah my father was equally brilliant. And is he was a national scholar and Jamaica. He earned his way and up in out and came to the United States into Berkeley to study economics and My parents met when they were active in the civil rights movement. And it's an interesting story because as you know my mother graduated college when she was nineteen and did and so she so she said to my grandfather who was one of the freedom fighters in India for India's independence and my mother was the eldest of four children. She was the oldest at at a girl obviously and she said to my grandparents. She wanted to study science and she wanted to go to what was considered to be one of the best schools and that was UC Berkeley and my grandparents looked at her and said okay. We will put you on a plane and you can go to a place. You've never been at nineteen years old. This was in nineteen fifty nine. So this young this girl. This young woman got on a plane encouraged by her parents to go and pursue her dream now. The back story is also that it was fully expected she would get that degree and go back and have a good arranged marriage but of course my mother having been raised and being who she was just naturally she when she got to Berkeley was immediately attracted to the civil rights movement. Why do you defend? That's where she met. My father was and but I want to say she met my father and decided to have a love marriage and a marriage based on love which I believe is the ultimate act of optimism. The the question that I interrupted. You're you're Satan with. Why do you think she was so attracted to the civil rights movement she was raised growing up? Would go back to India like every other year and And so I know the family from that that that raised her because they helped raise us and it was always about fighting for independence was about finding justice. It was about fighting to make sure that all people had a say in their future in their government an equal say and that was that was in her blood and of course that's what the civil rights movement was about and the free speech movement and and there are some funny stories. I was just sharing with something backstage. You know so I witness I right about in the book you know from my strollers. I view and there's a a funny family story about how some mothers marching with the extended family. I talk about like aunt Mary and Uncle Freddie and the book and she would tell the story about. How DO THEY MARTIN? And this is back when strollers didn't really have armrest seatbelts. Martin Away and you know shouting and and all of that and then I think Mongol Freddie a look down in the stroller which was empty followed up. My mother tells funny story like one day. She was fussing and and you know so much cuter when she would tell the story but she'd say so then she would look down at me and come on. What do you want? What do you want and I look back up in a said fleet on so glad that story. I wanted to hear you safe. We how I wanted to talk about your your father economics professor Stanford they meet atmospherically. Had you and my And you love going to the park and your mom would correct me. If I'm wrong would put limits on you in terms of how far you go. Whatever and your dad would say to you. Run RUN COM run. That's right he would say. Do not be afraid. Let her go let her go. Let her run. You run as fast as you. Can you run as far as you want and I believe that his whole purpose was to say. Do not be afraid and be

"Don't even think about it. I got a short unless you have like. Unless you're dollar days at somehow it but you've gotta see something. Even eighteen mixed league forbid even considering them but in a and Al side of things. I mean people are GonNa say Jonathan Singleton. You'll five years ten million dollars smoke that money away literally you know but you take if teams offering yet take it. You've got to happen and so good for him for getting this and I do think he's going to get out there and they're gonNa let him let them try it. I mean maybe he he is. Maybe they keep Austin Nola around and Austin Nola is part is like the the cushion a little bit for this. But there's really no reason to. There's not like there's anything anything breaking down the door to say he doesn't work out. This is the guy we're going to bring up. There's nothing no no. They set this up for Evan White and again when he can play the outfield if necessary but he has a frequent path the first base. It's going to get a shot. I think it's an AOL only play. The only thing that can make me be interested in makes league would be the big spring showing and even then it would be a reserve pick type deal in a fifteen team or maybe But otherwise I WANNA see. I'm I'm intrigued by interesting move. I do not blame him for taking it at all sure. If he became a superstar he'd be leaving some money on the table. But if you're twenty three years old you take this money so so good on him getting paid Before he even touches the major leagues couple other small. Bits here one signing and then a few rumors before we get Outta here for the for holiday Josh Harrison signs a minor league deal to Philadelphia. Obviously it's been a while since he's been anything of note right now as it often does in in situations like this. It's coming down to health. He was he was a dud with with the Tigers. Unfortunately stoneleigh thirty two though. That's why it's still on the list. Because if he found some health I think can get back to like. I don't know being a ninety to one hundred. Wer Plus Bat. which would not be flashy but that would be an NFL only filler and could potentially include some speed as well if you're in like an NFL tout and l.? Labor is Josh Harrison. Somebody who's on your Dollar Day reserve list. Yeah because we'll also know early on a minor league deal that he's got to be like Oh if we think through Like Daniel Hudson Daniel Hudson was let go by the angels on March Twenty fourth. And then you've got the final out of the world series by the Atlanta Nashville. So it's like you get you can get some guys looking opportunity like it's not there. We'll let them go so the opportunity to get out there. I mean Josh Harrison. When he's healthy he could hit football heart but that said that's been the problem And went to the phillies. Have to lose here by allowing him the opportunity to come to camp to see what he's got and potentially audition for a position But that's yet we'll see where that goes. I mean his the unfortunate the average exit velocity for him. Has I've been in the bottom tenth percentile. The lead the last three years so something's got to change. It's GonNa Change Quick. I'm not even talking about two thousand nine hundred and it wasn't enough time but sixteen bottom seven percent. Eighty eight D seventeen bought an eight percent and that's what he was an all star playing pretty well on seventeen. So that's that's interesting so yeah I'm actually surprised. At how low those numbers are given how whatever watched him watched him hit. But that's well yeah I would. I would have thought Harrison was better in seventeen there so you know. It's a gamble well. It's an easy lottery ticket to see if maybe he can become their utility Swiss army knife off the bench Josh Josh Harrison in Philly and only folks that you guys are wasn't need to pay attention to that right now so a little bit about some rumors here seems obvious how Garcia's drawing autumn interest including potentially from Miami. I bring them up specifically because again. This was another guy who was on the raise. And so somebody that you kinda zeroed in on. What's what's his outlook here can he? He be somebody who goes to the National League and plays in the field every single day or does he need to start transitioning more toward a d h partial adjacent role. What what's what's the outlook Novice Elgar seek? And what do you think of is bad because he played pretty well for the raise but they seem seem to be working as a little bit of a short side platoon at times there too when when when everybody was healthy. Yeah five hundred thirty plate appearances last year when it was all said and done for he hits the ball hard. I mean we talk about the the other direction when we're talking about a guy who has an average eggs of lassie of ninety miles an hour each of the last four years so he can hit the ball hard that and the the problem with them is defensively. As you said the National League's not a great fit. He has a right fielder He even played some spots center. Last year nets ugly. I mean defensively for me. He's good going back. We're talking about the clock face. I would say a from ten to. He's good but in between that time he's not. He is particularly bad apples in front of him. He loves it he was short plays let short hops apps a lot of a lot of balls in front of him but I found him to be really good going to right center field. Doing a good job of playing the ball towards the line and getting back to the wall But everything of fraud him. He'd let play him versus taking chances. And I found that particularly frustrating last year. Only because cure myers healthy. You've got that insurance policy. Be Be aggressive. Go after the ball is going to be chasing a behind you but help bitch really let balls fallen frontal so ideally. It'd be better if he was in in a in a nationally park I mean he's been ale his entire career And but how many jobs are going to be open So we'll see where that goes but I actually. They don't like him as a in the National League playing in the field every day. Twenty ten last year twenty twenty homers ten stolen bases always has had a little bit of sneaky speed and the raise. Let him let him run a bit there with fourteen opportunities and he converted ten of them for Garcia to eighty two average solid little fantasy season there in his five five hundred thirty plate appearances. I think we'd better off in the AL as well where you can get some Get Some D. H. Work even if it's not full-time D. H.. Help play the outfield instill. Because he's still on the right side of thirty but having that protection to take him off his feet once a week and maybe in the latter part of a deal if it's a three year deal or whenever you could put on a cell Garcia at D. H.. Last bit here before we get out Oakland checking in on trades for Blake. Trying to jerk some pro foreign josh vaguely. So they're doing their Oakland thing right. The second that guys start to get a little bit costly. It's time to look to deal them. This is particularly unfortunate on the train and end. Because they're dealing him they'd that'd be dealing him at such a trough. I do still think that they would be able to encourage a team to give them something. Particularly because of what we highlighted earlier about at the free agent market not being strong. You mentioned Daniel Hudson by the way. He's probably the best reliever left. Maybe her will Harris so again trying and would be able to generate something in the market but such a far cry from what they could have gotten if they adult after last year. And I'm not saying that they necessarily should've because it's hard to trade somebody who has just put up like the best season in the league although if you're the as you have precedent for that so maybe that was the time to strike and Dirksen also kind of be being dealt in a little bit of a trough federally would actually be being dealt at a peak. He had a nice little season there or he was able the do some things he's not a great catcher so to speak actually air quotes. He's yeah there's a reason. Why even though? My Favorite Club needs another cancer. This is not the guy that I wanted to go get do. Because he can't catch you really only hits against lefties. He's short side between guy. You know what I think I got stuck on on his first first couple months there where he was doing pretty well. His is four months where atrocious he did peak as you said in air quotes but only because he went from sixty five to ah eighty-five on his WRC plus so let's put him off to the side and focus on pro far in China. And what do you think about those being dealt and if you you have any off the top of your head and any potential landing spots that you'd like to see either of them go to. They'll have any landing spontaneous question for you. How old do you think jerks profile is twenty-seven urban? He will be twenty seven on February twentieth. He's been around for ever has been around for ever at because you know he came up early then he had the Tommy. Tommy John Surgery But he's been around forever as like he had he's had backed back twenty home. Run seasons overall offensive better in eighteen. Took a step back last year. A reality finish line. Yeah really struggled out of the gate last year Where which really hurt him? But it's again a guy without a true defensive home mm-hmm but you know it's like what do you do a twenty seven year old switch hitter. He's going to get another chance somewhere as so I don't know we're we're home for him but like switching over to try to know getting back to what we were talking about the white sox if they if they're trying to make this push with all this activity that doing in the off season in evade look to the Ale central as we could. We could do this. I love the way you go get your because you're buying you're buying lull. You have that you have The cash in the system to send something over today. Oakland here You've got some things you can do. But this is the guy that I go get. If you. If you're truly serious about making a push go get a guy that you probably have to spend. Eighty five ninety percent to acquire and you're not acquiring him the peak you're you're buying in the trough in Oakland Zakayev. We're not giving them away Eh. But at the same point he they can't possibly command what they could have got for him twelve months ago. Exactly you're going to give a little something of note because it's still you know we can can look at his track record and and billy being can say listen. You're going to get lesser than then you would have had to pay last year but I'm not given to your free..

"Strong underst- Munoz is another guy. I'll mention they could have a nice little four-pack there with With Yates pomeranz Munoz strum to left. Left to righties. If those work out strong as the left the moonies the writing neo was a really interesting to swing and miss guy their their their bullpen could be set up pretty nicely here. Plus they've got guys like cal Cointreau and plenty of other pitching prospects who are coming up so San Diego wasn't quite there this year but like you said this this this year could be twenty. Twenty could be there moved to to really start perking up We have a host of a smaller moves as well in the same vein as the POMERANZ deal here that we're gonNA rifle through a little bit so the next move on on the docket here is Travis. Dr No go into Atlanta securing their catching tandem. Now with tyler flowers. They've been really making making tandems work lately. Tower Flowers and Brian McCann tower flowers and Kurt Suzuki. Thing to righty lefty they can do right. Knee righty they just like to have to catcher. Situated they fully embrace kind of having a duo back there you saw Dr up close and personal has a raise fan watching him. During that breakout breakout that he had. What's what's on the docket here for d'arno can he be good again and Kenny handle? You know the sixty percent and of catching role in Atlanta. I mean I think it's a great sign at two years at sixteen million overall. I'm just a little butthurt as a race van that they didn't spend the money to bring this dude back Maybe maybe he he reworked some things with With the Chad Mottola and he gives he gives motor of Matola nickname a lot of credit for for making in helping to make the changes as he definitely was swayed definitely looked like a much better offensive player after about a month in if you look right as he was acquired by the club he struggled the first month and I was like yeah. Let's move on But he made me look stupid And was able to put enough put enough there so he made. He made some changes and turned turned himself into a nice deal. Here Yeah I think it's GonNa. He may lose some playing time to as you said because of the way Atlanta uses her catchers but they set them up for success. I mean we have a problem Zouqi but whatever magic sauce. They've got going on there like today. It's going to be flyers. Tomorrow is GonNa be Suzuki and it doesn't seem like there was any any kind of Catcher caddy business. It was just matchups as it really why they discover the dude. Today this is going to be the And so you know playing a plane in the part Art Turner Turner Field Suntrust or no. They got sold. Is that can be trusted. Somebody else obey already Charlotte. Yes I'm back here so itself so they change the name. I forget. But that ballpark anyhow will be obviously a little bit more beneficial than playing a Tropicana But let's also not forget d'arno enjoyed the run environments in Baltimore and Yankee Stadium and been the three home run game. He hit in the third home. Run was three hundred and fourteen feet in two inches You know that kind of thing he enjoys a friendly environments here so overall I think honestly I think it's like a lateral move. I don't see a huge benefit. Because he may be gets a little more short-haul but he's GonNa lose some on the road but he can hit. I mean this is. This is a brief look back at at seventeen and nineteen and the numbers are rather other similar. I gained a little bit last year. But it's always just health and now he's healthy again that yeah that's really hit with our nose is how L. healthy he can be. I think he's played himself back into a fantasy role with two catcher leagues. Or if you're in a fifteen team or one catcher he's going that'd be one of the last few catchers off the board even this even in this platoon role here with with flowers. I think they're going to want d'arno to be the sixty percent of the Of the dual there. Even it's fifty five. Forty five is still think Arno has enough power to where you could see him go and one catcher format so the maybe the reason that that your beloved raise passed on it was because they love Mike Zeno and they brought him back and so he's going to another the shot. How good is okay? I know he has a good defensive reputation. Does it uphold the is he. Is he good defensively. He's he's good behind the plate as his most notorious Torius hater Good behind the plate. He he is. He's a good second catcher that you take that claim because in my twitch stream. I'm I'm known as a massive Nino hater because I don't know if you're familiar with this is familiar with Wi- I dislike so much. I sports listening to me. Well that that might have influenced why I did what I did. I suffered my dusty in to a into just just free money. I got this fool the taken over under bet with me that Mike Zeno of all people can hit two thirty one. This are two thirty or better. This was coming into twenty seventeen when he had a one ninety five career average just stole money from dusty then all of a sudden likes to fifty one season. He's in are you kidding me. Are you kidding me. What sixty five bikes nights back to one and one sixty five the next two years? I completely got rolled. UN freaking believable. So yeah I'm very very very sports. Haiti toward toward Mike Zeno. But yeah he's going to be the guy there. He was disastrous last year. For y'all five forty four OPIE s didn't even really have the power that he normally does. I mean I guess he did but the batting average is so bad that three twelve slugging doesn't look that great but is there any hope of fans. I will count years the Austin hedges. He's also at me. He has a song. Stack speech seventy the third percentile. Pop time a sixty one sixty first percentile framing. So he's above average in both areas and that is he is literally Extremely extremely below average everything else across the board the two thousand seventeen season if they want to do a thirty for thirty. ESPN and figure out. How in the hell he pulled about? Eight twenty five home runs season in a two one batting average. It would be worth it because I still can't fathom I know I've written about that and talked about it like this guys. Don't do this. Please don't do this to yourself. And then he went out and hit twenty homers again lost fifty points of his average and then the raise acquired him unlike gotten in them. So it's like I think they're mad at me for leaving Florida and say you know what gets punished but in all seriousness this gets back to the barren market. If they didn't didn't maybe Jarno was planning but again to sixteen should for their like. Sorry we can't afford that That should not have been in but apparently this was plan. B Is like okay. This is what we're GONNA do is in. This is going to be the guy. Now that said it's like what else are you going to capture. Because he cannot be an everyday a player. You can't just an empty is just empty. So they've got to do something else because no this can't be a starting catcher. This is a back conjure. Do they go similar to Atlanta and get a not worry about a righty lefty thinking. If if the right is better. And it's a Torino's they get him or do they get a lefty and trying to go with Castro or villa. Or would you rather have a Torino's or Maldonado between those four V. So here's the other piece Anything last year it means the Dino d'arno stripping of writings what it's like there's rumors that Seattle is aggressively trying to move Omar diorite and Seattle in Tampa Bay about two trades a month. So that happens but Narvaez is is like the anti-race catcher because he he's not a catcher. I mean he's terrible terrible catcher and he into that they don't they don't roster those types of catch down here so much into framing but that would make more sense here. Say Okay fine for years. We've tried to get these guys that are glove. I said no bat. And for the most part it hasn't worked out we'd lucked out on Dr L.. Because the dodgers at them and they needed to move on and you know the the raise five tetra injuries in May and they locked into that one So maybe they'll try the other wait so you know what. Let's just call up our board Seattle. Make deal here's some pitcher you give us Narvaez and that's the new catcher But I don't see the Michael Perez Mike. That's that's not gonna cut it and her hand is still years away from coming and is like what else are no as you know. Matt James Is Not GonNa. That's not gonNA happen kiss it. They've got to go find another one and the president is not going to work but they do seem to like Peres in Peru but he also has options so he can just keep going up and down the ladder you gotTa keep third experience catcher around somewhere So Baby by the time the hot stove the way it's cooking today. Maybe Narvaez Ray. Before we're done recording this podcast wouldn't surprise me. But if it's if it's not Narvaez I the Jason Castro might be the fit there because he's also good defensively more often than not so that could work speaking of Seattle Seattle and the mariners there. Yeah Nice whole segue didn't even know that you jumped on your segue over here Zip On over to the Pacific northwest. They made an interesting signing of one of their own is Isaiah a PRI PRI. MLB deal for prospect. Evan White who I believe coming into the year had topped at high this year has he's only played double A.. So he gets. He gets a deal when he get twenty. Four Mil Potential King Radio. Yes six year. Twenty four four. which can max out to fifty five point five with options and everything he got that deal? Pardon me as somebody who he did peak at AAA but it was eighteen gene plate appearances so for all intents and purposes. He's peaked at AA. If we're if we're being honest about where his experience lies he's put up great numbers All the way up up so far is the first pick from twenty seventeen. He draws a loose comp to cody bellinger in that he plays I but has the capability to play outfield in any of the three outfield positions including Centerfield. He has that kind of athleticism. Nobody's saying that he has bellinger's power he's not tracking toward potential. MVP anytime soon. The COMP is really about the defense so I only bring it up for that at peace. But he's also a big guy. Six three two zero five lot of athleticism. Interesting deal here though. Obviously it would seem to suggest. Adjust that they're looking at him. Evan White as somebody. Who's going to be on this twenty twenty roster pretty darn quickly if not begin an opportunity to break camp and and again doesn't necessarily have to play first base jump into the outfield and yeah we can look at their roster right now as it is but as you just mentioned trader Jerry's GonNa make fifty trades five of which are going to be with your raise so we don't really know how it's GonNa go as it stands right now though Ross Resource? RT says. Hey Evan White you'll only have affects. What ten games five games at AAA? That's okay you're GonNa be our first baseman from day one because he's already twenty three going into his age twenty four season. What'd what'd you think this deal? And what do you think a white for twenty twenty six twenty four with the with the ability to get fifty million of everything plays out to send him back back down the minor leagues now. We said this about we said this about Scott kingery when the phillies did it and kingery played his way to AAA. He couldn't yeah. He sunk as far as a sink or swim type of deal but he did start the it was like okay. Sign this deal go right right away so you know Dell insight on yeah I do because what else do they have to lose. This is not a team. That's contenting Philly. Thought they were making the push. This is a this is a team in full L. rebuild mode they cannot compete with this roster in that division so let. Let's see what let's see what they got here when you have the condo no need to worry about shuffling them up and down Now that said you're putting a lot of pressure on a guy to play first base to hit me again. He didn't have it a bat above. Hi a ball coming into this past season. We talked earlier about the age of guys. Were like a your riots. Were curious however which way he pronounces it You know the things that he did his age White was twenty three turning twenty four. He was he turns. Twenty four here in April Late late April so he was twenty three years old doing what he didn't say so he was league appropriate for age so it's not like he was exceeding at some young thing. He was very league appropriate. But you making the jump from Aa to the majors four games of AAA experience. Just for Technical Technical Tommy's Ms out there I did miss speak those triple a games. I actually came in two thousand eighteen. He went from high eighteen AAA for those four games and then spent all ninety two games of his season. Ebony White did in double a this year so like that alone not touching Recently he just off the table..

Pomeranz deliveries and a check swing and a PO. And it's ruled a swing by the over at first base. So that strikes Ray heartbreaking bow down in in. Profile was just certain that. He did not swing. "Under thirty actually because I'm going into age thirty season. Here you have thirty thirty four thirty to twenty seven and thirty are the ages for this rotation senior they're putting together trade pieces. So I hope so I hope some Marga shows health is back to form. They can move him. They're going to move Bumgarner at some point because last year was deal Derek hololens on a one year deal. So they're gonna move him. So Suarez and Stratton. I'll get back into the rotation. It just seem maybe they're thinking, well if we can fix drew Pomeranz. We can turn around and sell something. He was traded for Anderson Spinoza, obviously, they're not going to get a prospect necessarily of that caliber. But just don't forget that drew Pomeranz has seven hundred ten innings of three Ninety-two ERA and about a strikeout per inning that that's the only point I'm making here. And as late as he's going as free as he is. I could say something I mean, I think there is this idea because they have been Mench. Nd as a mystery team for Harper and Machado. I think they're honestly I think what they might have been doing was trying to drive up the price on Harper. So the dodgers them. But if for some reason, they were to land them, I think they're leaving that that option open to try to make a run this year. I think that would be stupid because the giants are just atrocious. I mean again that rotation you can magic fairy dust it into some health and say, okay is their cleanup hitter. There's something there. But then the offense is just not good. And I think they have three two really strong trade pieces and the bullpen with. Whoa Smith and Tony Watson. And then the third who could be good with Mark Milan-San. Scene. Yeah. Hit back on. He's always someone's always interested in San Dyson. So they'll they'll be able to flip them. So they should be able to make a lot of moves. I'm surprised I'm really done anything in the off season. I guess they're looking to make the moves in season. So we'll see what happens. I eighty does. Once once things get rolling with spring training and whatnot for the giants last move here. Even smaller than the drew Pomeranz really even though he's going to be more fulltime role. Brad Brock into the back. End of that cubs. Bullpen day. Don't have a set closer. I think Pedro Strope gets the job to start though with with brenham Maurel hurt. I think even Carl Edwards junior is next, but brand has caused before he's been a great reliever before he wasn't last year is brand Brock somebody that uses the potentially being an NL only fill. It can get a strike outs. Back is really the bottom line question because he had three great strikeout years over well over a caper inning. And then last year really came back to the pack and like I said had a pretty. Men season, the three fifty ninety are might not tell you that. But the one sixty which sure as hell does. So Brad Brock is he somebody who can get in stuff back because swing strike rate was still there. I think of the velocity returns. Okay velocity was down over or about a mile an hour from the previous season about almost half from the season before that. And when his vows balls operating at ninety five ninety five plus then we're looking at a guy that will miss the bats. And I think he if Voss's back I think he's got a chance to be back. So he's one of those guys that will be kind of checking in with Jeff Zimmerman. When in spring training when he he's got a monitoring those velocities, and we see yes, we start seeing it. We're seeing him start at ninety four ninety five in spring or in ninety four really then we'll know will gain by the time we get to late spring early summer. And that's an indication that we should buy in on Brock. Agreed. I think that that's that's a really worthy consideration there about the velocity piece. And then he is a saves potential candidate like he's in the mix, and you never know because it's a wide open bullpen there. Again, I would favor Strope as the front runner. I mean, he's just he's still not that expensive. Even though he's going to open the season with the job..

"Max larvae. Over Palmer ends not. That's if he goes up, the two hundred pigs. Oh for sure. Okay. Then. Yes. Currently currently he's around. Let's see me. Oh, you data. I was actually going to name like four industry guys. Mike. Play link. Matt modique? Oh, there's drew Pomeranz Nella and Derek van riper like those two guys. They're tall like guys. I bet they've got a pretty good gino's crafty. I think paulie are you know, he was a college pitcher Jake still putting him over Palmer M's. Here's where Pomeranz going around. Currently what I said, I would be if he raised two hundred plus picks. Currently it's Nelson lament who's not who's going to be out for a long time. Don't really see the point drafting, Frankie Montas Eric Feddie. AJ puck was the same issues. Lament? Returning from DJ this year. Sean mnay not even pitching this. Right. He's out the entire year isn't he there's been rumors that he may be back sooner than people expected. But that that being case he still avoid him everywhere. So I mean Pomeranz is free hill go up based on this. But I don't even know that I was saying that the craziest case I think he would go up would be up to three eighty three. Do that. Exactly. So. Why not I mean, I it in a fifty you know, round draft and hold fifteen team alike. I'm in right now L only in the forty you You know. know? Rounds? So yeah, I even last round, you know, easily get them in the fiftieth. Let me see if he was even taking in my draft and hold. Let's go back to Palmer throw. I work with giants playing the pitching. Coaches and figure out how to stop walking so many guys homers like you said we'll just come down just on a basis of where he's at. And maybe some of the walk issues was pitching in Boston. I mean, he had to walk issues. Forever though issues have been I mean, they might as bad as they were last year. Maybe he'll be more comfortable in San Francisco to work in his own of it. Yeah. Health is a major key for Pomeranz Klay, gone amending Wapping seven thirty. So you're talking literally last round that was literally the fiftieth round because that's like the place for him. There's not a ton of upside here. This isn't a guy who's going to break out. And so people tend to avoid those guys at the end because the everybody wants like, oh, what if this guy, especially after last year with one Soto being on node draft champions teams, there's going to be people looking at Royce Lewis and looking at you know, maybe guys who were in high A or under Franco's going to get taken some of those leaks just isn't gonna get in a number of leagues and things like that. And that's that's where people are going to use the late picks in. So if you need a guy that is just going to get you innings, and you can stream them at home. In, you know, against you know, maybe team teams that don't hit hit lefties. Well. Pomeranz might be an interesting guy. I don't know what the giants are doing from a team perspective because this Knox haven't done anything. Well, they re signed Derek Holland. So the knock Andrew swore as incre Straton out of the rotation. Angers you greatly. Well, I mean, the Christian part aside sores actually is an interest. He pitched well. Yeah. And he's he's not a he's not gonna overpower you with anything in particular. But he's kind of a kitchen sink guy. They okay do they think that they're like potential longshot contenders? Because this rotation says we've have shop Bumgarner. I mean that they think they do not. I'm not saying that wondering if this is a precursor trading Bumgarner. Okay. And so then you bring Stratton back in and then you trade some Arja look this team. And go this teams competing, the offense is brutal. But if you could find if you could magic dust some health, it's Bumgarner Samara, Derek Colin Derek Rodriguez. Drew Pomeranz, you could see scenario where that works, particularly at home. But why do they have only one guy who's under twenty?.

"Boulevard restaurant. I was working at the reservation counter and one night. I get a call must have been five years ago. Four years ago, we get a call and dude says I need to make a reservation for two last name Pomeranz. I named drew drew Pomeranz of the Oakland. A's sponsor was you know, who I am. I said, yeah, I know who you are. You're a top ten draft pick and ole miss by the Cleveland Indians. Good morning to you. Happy Thursday to you Adam cope with you in the leadoff spot. If you don't know who drew Pomeranz is by now will will inform you here in the leadoff spot. Lots of information pouring in on the left handed with the giants signed yesterday. I guess the first thing is that. It's it's pretty funny. And and kind of cool for us here at the leader that our own Larry Kruger's guy who broke the news. He came in at ten AM yesterday did the face off, and Murph and MAC and said, I've got some giants news. I've got a source that says they're about to make a signing. And I can't wait. Yeah. Okay. Larry, let's hear it. What do you got? What do you got layer sat here and wait for it? He broke some news. And then within minutes, you had Baguley picking it up yet, Ken Rosenthal, picking it up, and they'll be trade rumors. He's tweeting it out Jeff passan's putting it out the giants agreed to a one point five million dollar contract for the starting pitcher left-hander drew Pomeranz. Now, this is a guy who's had ties in the past the four hundred eighty he was he was acquired by the as from the Rockies and had a pretty damn good season back in that year. I'm telling you about that that that he was coming into boulevard uneaten with his wife Carolyn who I guess is a bay area a native in a San Francisco Giants fan or grew up a giants fan. So Paul Ryan said like it was a no brainer. When a team like this wanted him. He's coming off a season with the Red Sox where probably is worst season as a professional baseball player back since he pitch with the Colorado Rockies. But I think we we kinda consider the the Iraqi seasons outlier seasons. Right. Like, it's it's tough pitching on the moon. I think is is what it comes down to you. But you Pomeranz a guy with a big curveball guy with a lot of upside and the incentives that they've given him. I mean, this is a one point five million dollars base salary deal that ultimately could be worth up to five million dollars based on the number of starts. He makes number of innings e pitches. Opening day rosters rotations all that stuff comes into play. Which basically tells me that either a the giants are looking for a low risk. Hi reward player, which I think on a one year deal. A guy who twenty eight years old twenty nine years old on the on. The free agent market is was was two years ago. He was coming off of his best season ever. With the Red Sox? Seventeen wins had an era under three and a half was looking damn good at a high curveball rate through more curve balls than any pitcher in baseball, which which prompted Andy Bagger lead to compare them to rich hill, and I sort of upset once I read that because I thought that exact same thing when the giants acquired him, and I wasn't thinking about him. As a rich hill pitcher just based on the curve ball. I'm thinking about him as the giants version of Richhill in that this is the exact same thing. The as did when they went in they grabbed rich, you'll remember Richhill was a top draft selection. He was one of the the prize prospects of the Chicago Cubs organization, and then he had tons of injuries that just sort of decimated his career, and then he bounced around for a long time. You went Yankees UN angels. He went all over the place. I think he might have even been in Cleveland for a second. I was rich hill, and then he kind of disappeared news pitching around bouncing around the minor leagues. And then all of a sudden he resurfaced with the Red Sox like four years ago resurfaces with the Red Sox in in twenty fifteen. It was. Pitch like thirty innings in relief. Made a couple of starts and then got himself a contract as went out and they signed him. And it was the same type of thing where now he was coming off of a better he was on an uptick in his career. Whereas drew Pomeranz coming off down season in his career, but two years ago, you were looking at him like if this guy hits the free agent market as a twenty eight year old left. He he'll be one of the top guys on the market and far hindsight. He did say that yesterday that this is a guy they were expecting to be a top agent acquisition across baseball. This is a guy that when he hit the market they expected you want a veteran lefty a guy with with a big curveball a guy who can who has in the past pitched out of relief both with the as and with the Rockies, but primarily a starting pitcher. So all that stuff came into play when the giants went out to get him. But I think about this comparison to rich hill and that the as went and signed Richhill gave them their deal. And then and then basically I mean, they weren't anticipating being on a on a big playoff stretch run here. I know the giants are looking to put themselves in the best position. They can in the National League West. He may also be why far Hans going out and stacking left handed pitchers. He didn't say that exactly in his in his press conference yesterday or his his conference call with the writers yesterday. What he said actually was you want a bunch of left handed pitchers because when it comes trade deadline. Everybody is looking for a left-hander the giants now we'll put tomor ends in the rotation. You've got of course, Bumgarner you've got Derek Holland. You of course, have Andy Suarez you've got tie block. That's just five potential starting pitchers as left-handers don't forget about Derek Rodriguez. And of course, Jeff some arches. So it's starting to mirror the type of of I don't wanna see rotation. The type of pitching staff that the L A dodgers have put together under Friedman. And and when Zaidi was there they had a whole bunch of left handed pitchers. You had a bunch of guys who you're really sure if they were starters or relievers. I'm still not really sure what what Ross stripling is. Or what Kanter my ADA does? Or what does sometimes they start? Sometimes they relieve they they put him in the rotation. They pull them out. They keep them on on. Good rest. You're getting enough innings out of guy. Is to get outs. But far hunt said that yesterday that this isn't about just getting on the opening day roster or having a big push at the start of the season. This is about having depth getting three hundred sixty two game season giants fans more than anybody should know how tough that is after last season with the shallow reserves that they had in Sacramento. So this is a guy who if I take a look at the way, the roster's constructed of the way the pitching staff is constructed and all these incentives for him to potentially make five million. This tells me one thing or two things either. A the giants aren't expecting him to pitch all that much. Or be they're expecting him to pitch in limited action to some extent. He's probably the perfect guy to use as a opener. If you're talking about using an opener a guy who you're looking to get back on track. Maybe have them throw limited innings not having a third time through the rotation. And again, a guy who's pitched out of relief though. I don't think they're planning on using a matter relief based on what far Honda saying yesterday. So again, he's a high risk lower player if he's pitching. Well, I do not expect him to be on the roster at the end of the season. This is the perfect type of guy you acquire. He's a low risk guy. If it doesn't work out it cost, you a one point five mill. And if it doesn't work out, then it's also giving you time to have. Maybe Andy swore starts the year down in AAA because we all know he came up far too fast. He wasn't even supposed to be here last year, and he made strides, but we heard cruch say time after time last year that this is early for him. He may be should not even be in the major leagues right now. So if he's pitching healthy, and if he's pitching well at all, I just bet he'd be traded. This may be why the giants are stacking these left. You'll still be able to potentially make a move for Watson or for Wilson with you could potentially make a move. If it comes down to it in a blockbuster deal for Madison, Bumgarner, you've also got this option here where you could potentially flip a guy like this. And don't forget they went out, and they got a guy I want to say as Ferguson or Bergen. I can't remember DMZ Mike Gerber the outfielder they've picked up, but they went out, and they got another lefty a relief pitcher who is in the Blue Jays organization. A double a guy who was not on their forty man. And so they got him in the rule five. So giants are stacking lefties, and everybody's always looking for lefties, but I do like this Palmer ends deal. I think it gives you a little bit more depth than the rotation a rotation that now I'm guessing projects probably as in no particular order Bumgarner de rod pomeranians, Derek Holland. And if healthy Jeff samardzija four hundred was asked about Jefferson Marzia yesterday. And I know a lot of people roll their eyes and grunted that. But the reason you pay Jephson Marzia is because he was capable of coming and eating innings you need him to come out and eat two hundred or so. Winnings. The season I'll take one hundred eighty innings at this point. But that's why they gave him the ninety million dollar deal. So he said the throwing program is going. Okay. There are questions about whether you're ready to start the season. This is a quote from far haunt questions about a where he'll be at the start of the season and be what kind of durability of they'll be able to get with him. But all indications for us or that he's going to be ready for the start of the season ready for camp ready to throw in games as of now, he's very on schedule. Very on schedule is the phrase too far hunt used it's just for us having the injury and the same year last year. He's not a guy you can afford to write in for thirty two or thirty four starts. They're just not confident that he's going to be ready for that. So the value for Jephson Marzano's a little bit different. I'm not really sure what the expectations are. I'm not sure we'll have an idea..

"Andrew baguley. It says in full drew Pomeranz newest San Francisco giant. Story. Broken by Larry Krueger drew Pomeranz dealt with a strained flexor tendon as well as bicep tendonitis last season. In addition to Nick discomfort. That's a lot. He's six foot six lefty who in seventeen sixty two three three two E R A for the Red Sox in 2017 likes those numbers at innings he pitched, but I blush I'll take seventeen in six for two three three two ERA. For the Red Sox in two seventeen health and pitching in San Francisco could be huge a lot of. Tendons and muscles, drew Pomeranz and a lot. But some very important, tendons and muscles that were problematic for him. But again said this to Gary during the face off, what are your expectations of the they're rebuilding and get a sense, very untie unscientific survey. I get a sense the giants fans understand it. And I don't know if you're cool with it. But you don't seem to be very exercised about it. You seem to be very level headed and understanding about it. We'll get into more of a giants talk a little bit later on. But first David do sec. Our good friend golf. We dot com. Senior writer. And friend of the show joining us on the Oma guest line. It is a very belated. But very heartfelt happy new year to you, my friend. How are you? Happy new year, speaking of muscles and tendons. It is to have you back, my friend, and for those who really love golf for those like myself will only pay attention to golf when it's major time. Good to have Tiger Woods back. Last time. We saw him non Ryder Cup edition. Tiger Woods was looking pretty damn good. So everybody's natural. Question is does that carry over into this season? What are the reasonable expectations for Tiger Woods sorting this weekend out of San Diego at Torrey Pines, a place he likes and what's the reasonable expectations for tiger in the future. We'll start with the first major the masters. Well, I think the reason why probably going to be pretty good. You know, I think last year was year to prove to himself approved to us. Stand writers and people like me. He's back there the back issues that he'd have to last several seasons the health issues that are really dog. Here's trying to get back into form play practice on a regular basis that seems to be, you know, well in the parents not to say that a forty three year old can't hurt himself when he's training. You're practicing going out the way to the woods. Can we really haven't heard anything out of Tigers camp that was used to believe that the back is an issue at this point in based off of what we saw towards the end of the last PGA tour, which granted was August and September, you know, a little taste of October. They're playing his best golf the end of the season. Which is which is pretty to see. I mean, I was in Atlanta. And he was the best player, albeit thirty Mansfield us. The best player field anyone and he's arrived this week at Torrey Pines, I think alarm expectations, but to some degree. I think it's you because what Tiger Woods does back. What you better than anybody else in the PGA tour last year was ball strike, basically his. Shut up opportunities to score. He's not the longest drive around the tour anymore. He's not the straightest driver. Neither hasn't been along dark, but but he gives himself so many chances now score that on weeks when he parts, okay. A pretty good putter statistics bear that out last season. Then he's going to do. Well, Tiger Woods, you know, back. For he is right now a really good player and the second part of the question with the master's. I think he's going to be a handful. I would not be the least bit surprise Sunday afternoon at the leaders are making a maternity national. And you know, they say that the master. He's one of the guys it's make a return because he's going to be one of the contenders. Low leaders I think it's a shaping up to be a really really big year. Tigar I want to go back to the tournament in Atlanta that you were at that tiger one is first tournament win. And I can't even do the math. I think one of the best sports pictures of twenty eighteen was the gallery, and it looked. It was thousands of people. All exactly yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It looked like a picture of Ben Hogan walking down the fairway, and you just had these these people in in in crazy hats following him. Did you see the thousands of people following Tiger Woods, just from pure entertainment. A point of view. I don't know if it was a question of you missed him. So you appreciate them more that he's around. Now, what it does boil down to his if Tiger Woods involved, those who love golf, and those who only watch it or pay attention to it when he's around everybody is going to be paying attention at this point. And he knows that the rest of the tornadoes that how your teed off on eighteen that's on on the t box there, and it was a long downhill dogleg to the last fan. She walks off in the crowd is going to spend an absolutely bananas and the funny one that I kept trying China make eye contact with an I did a couple of times and use it smiling. Was Rory mcilroy was was right there and just to see the he was enjoying it as much as I think tiger was obviously, very different reasons. What is the gallery is coming down the fairway was we're all marching down there to stop. The trouble is over it was gonna be able to get through and he was using alternative Rory and Tigers competitors. Whereas jacked up is everybody else. And then afterwards in the days. Accurate. I remember seeing a picture know show. Justin, Thomas and Rickie Fowler, wearing red t-shirts next to Tiger Woods, and there in some restaurants someplace, and the t shirts we made Tiger Woods. Great again. And it was just the fact that they just love the guy that they idolize playing if something like what they remember it kids, and when he was influencing them way, Steph curry and James harden right now, influenced young kids who play basketball with them and they loved it. They absolutely loved it. And so, yeah, maybe there is like, you know, we start really appreciate it. As much as we should. Because like we we didn't have a chance to follow tiger for a couple of years while he's helped and other things you'll make made it so he couldn't play but everybody I think really appreciates him. Now. I think she appreciates and doesn't take for granted his alter the package can compete at this level. And it makes it a lot of fun. It's it's great to be out there to see him. And and I, you know. Chart trying to get out there, you know, in whenever you have an opportunity if you're fan, the US open, somebody your your backyard. Peddle in June. It's gonna be it's gonna be a circus. And it'll be a lot of fun. You gotta get there. I mean, listen Tiger Woods is one of those athletes. He's in the category of when you have a chance to watch him watch him when he's gone, he's gone. And you're never going to see anything like it again, David. Absolutely David do say Gulf. We dot com senior writer joining us on kmby are six eighty sports. Rod Brooks flying, so low David joining us on the guest lion. Tiger Woods making his twenty one thousand nine hundred debut, and he's doing it down at a very familiar and somewhat comfortable course for him down there at Torrey Pines at this weekend. So the competition for Tiger Woods tiger's is back as much back as he can be four guy who's also to the individual career than the beginning. He's forty three years old the competition that grew up on him is is stiff competition, and I'm no we're very early. But where are these guys right now? Whether you're talking about Jordan Spieth or ROY McElroy who still trying to get that masters monkey off of his back Brooks KEPCO interview golfing. You know, how good this? This guy is Dustin Johnson. Maybe a couple of names I've missed what do you think? These guys are in terms of not only their own performances, but you know, keeping tiger and his chances of winning a major. Specifically the masters at bay. Well, right now, everybody's started coming in played maybe one event to since last fall, the golfers generally speaking wants to get through these they're going to go ahead. Take a long rest they usually put down the clubs for a couple of weeks after their season is finished. And then they get the gym. And they start putting their swing back together and sort of see exactly where everything is. So right now, we're in through the feeling out there who put in some work in the off season who was out there grinding away on the left and see and really trying to do some more who played it smart is what we're going to see. And we really don't know that truth be told until we get into like, the NFL worry, Mark. Okay, doll fluky. You don't know. It'd be the man this year. I mean, somebody comes out and wins golf tournament. Great. Well, you've got forty more weeks ago talk to me and like in July and August were playing for the big state. But there's a lot of guys who are putting new equipment in the bag. They gotta test that stuff out make sure everything is good. You're going to be guys who are maybe going coaching and swing changes. We'll see how that works out. That way. I look for details. Like that obviously tiger somebody that we pay a lot of attention to rightfully rich. After the two time defending US open champion and a guy who usually flies under the radar team. Justin Rose have been handing the number one in the world of mantle back and forth. Now for the last several months and Justin Rose went to a big equipment change this off season completed down low like he just sorta does what he does get the gym. And then hit golf balls really really hard some other guys as well. I I think we're on the edge really like a breakout year. There's so many young good players. I know who look around the landscape ROY McElroy, Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas Jason day. So many guys that Rickie Fowler could do something. And there's a bunch of guys who are in that twenty five to fifty range wanna make their bones to you know, and they feel like they they can go up there on Sunday. They could be the guy that goes out in wins in a guy named Adam along comes out and win last week in Palm Springs feeding out Phil Mickelson. Yeah. Okay. Shot a sixty. I. Round of that tournament. On any given week. There's a lot of jobs, but I I got a hunch that the schedule is different this year. So now the the Players Championship which had been in may is now in Mark starting in March. We're going to get a really big tournament every about four weeks, and then golf season is over in August before we're playing football again, which I know we've got to get through a certain game here about another week and a half against the schedule. Guys, who are fit are going to be a big advantage because every four weeks you go players the masters. The PGA championship is now may page. Then we've got then we're on a pedal beach got the British, and then we got done it. And that's all done by the middle of August. So schedule should be punished favorite guys were fit. And if you get on a little bit of a downstream a slump. Boy, you better get out of the quick because with a condensed schedule as you could find yourself in a lot of tournaments and a lot of glory if you have the wrong like two or three week period. Playing a a real quick day before we let you go. Now. The Tigers the main attraction down at Torrey Pines off the top of your head or maybe in front of you. What does the rest of that field? Look like well tiger is going to go down. You're gonna playing with Georgia fees. It'd be really interesting to see Jordan right the ship. You had a really rocky season last year. He's looking right. That Jon Rahm. I believe is in the field. Jason day is the defending champion. He's getting Mickey his two thousand nine hundred tour debut, it it should be. It's always a really good feel interesting still Nicholson skipping this event. He's not going to be playing that when we knew that one two three loss last week. And he's getting ready to play a couple of other events later in the spring defending in a few weeks in Mexico. So tiger is not going to have an actual. There's some very talented players. And we'll see what happens should be done. Dave always good catching up with you, man. I said to you before belated, but nonetheless, the happiest of New Year's to you and your family and look forward to talking to you man on the regular now back in back in the mix. "Now, a story about a monkey a stuffed toy monkey barely four inches tall made by the German toymaker Steiff it belonged to a young Jewish boy at the time. Hitler was rising to power the monkey would take a journey that spans decades and continents a journey that includes tragedy and remarkable discovery. Its owner was geared Berliner. He's the father of NPR's early Berliner who picks up the story from here. Fifteen years ago, a museum archivist from Berlin came to my dad's apartment in New York. Yes for favor. Did he have something anything from when my dad was a kid growing up in Berlin? When he was here, he said, you know, we have exhibits and at the exhibits. What people really want is something personally, do you have anything? And I don't know. That'd be lies. What I had. I had a little monkey. He showed me the monkey. And I said that is an amazing amazing subject. That's Aubrey Pomeranz the archivist from the Jewish museum. Berlin, the toy monkey is pretty beat up its firs frayed one of its hands is completely missing. And I remember him looking at me and saying you'd like to have it for the museum, wouldn't you? And I said to him geared. It's such a personal object. It's it's it's an object which has so much meaning and is filled with the motion for you. I'd never ask you to give it to the museum said, you know, what I'll think about it. And he did think about it. It wouldn't be easy to give up the monkey the most intimate object from his childhood. He kept it close for more than sixty years. Now this story I was in lung Kee. We begins in burden. Funt on my bicycle on the steering. What is it called the handlebars, Dan laws? I put the little monkey that. It's the nineteen thirties and like other kids in Berlin. He rises bike everywhere except as a Jewish kid. The situation becomes more ominous by the day, and then it explodes in a wave of violence against Jews in nineteen thirty eight on Kristallnacht the night of the broken glass, Nazi brownshirts, and German civilians smashed and burnt Jewish shops schools in homes thousands of innocent Jewish men were rounded up.

"And so you like realize the NBA game starting to four o'clock the World Series starts at five and NFL Sunday. We were there. So the game was until five and there was even a London game. So won the game starts at six thirty. And then one o'clock game started at ten AM. It was just like wild. Everything's going on. And everything's everything's over by eight o'clock, very weird to adjust to that. So we go to the game. Very cool the fans stink. But the stadium itself is awesome. What did you think the fans we were talking about this on radio? They There retire. there is. But there were a lot of them. They just weren't louder vicious or anything not not vicious at times, maybe a tad threatening. But they would just quiet down. They just weren't loud game. Threes atmosphere is awful game. Four was cool Bs. I think almost game three they went in and didn't give themselves a chance thought the series is over right then. And there you know, when they were down to. But once they got that game back. That's crazy marathon game. They were more into in game four. And then once they blew four nothing lead the fans stop cheering. Lots of Yankee suck chance. Lots of let's go Red Sox chance after that point eighteen game is crazy. It's like something. I'm gonna be able to tell my kids God forbid anyone ever as a kid with me. But that it was just chaos. I was just watching. No, one can get no one could score run. And is just back and forth. I thought I was kept looking. Drew pomeranz. Then no one looks like Stephen graduate from bed more than drew Pomeranz. When he just sits in that bullpen chair. And no one talks them for six innings while Nathan you've only shoving from the thirteenth eighteenth. It was hilarious. Like, why is your Palmer? And even on this roster was just crazy. You're basically he was he was on that roster for a game like that. But if it went like forty endings, they would've maybe finally got to do they were like almost at their like doomsday point of like we have to put this guy in a scoreless tie game. But yes that was actually like pure comedy just watching every inning. And even in game five game five game four. He was almost like he didn't move he slept in the stadium because he was just sitting in that same same chair the entire time for all three games and known talk to him. And he said the same hoodie on then one time he took his jersey often Hodie off it was really really funny in Jarrett's other get nervous. But. Yeah. Drew Palmer's pure comedy. The game is crazy Puig's Homer was wild for game four. I mean just place was a places a Zulu when he he lifted off in that moment. It really sucks I really want. If they had come back on that series. That would minute cool shirt. Eddie Rodriguez slamming his glove into hell, while both his arms up was just such a conic moment that just now get swept away into the back burner of history. You know, it's just knowing fuck about that anymore. The Red Sox also the eighteen month of eighteen inning game. If I'm a red sock fan like that was awesome. You're gonna look back at this World Series run. And be like, oh, yeah. We had that eighteen inning game. Like we lost due care. We didn't awesome World Series or on our one loss in the World Series was in eighteen inning. One of the best baseball games of offline going to be one of the most memorable World Series games of all time for them. I feel like that. I it. They're looking back. I get that. But I know Jared was dying inside when Kinzler made that air and people were saying my free action to that was planned or staged. Yeah. I really expected Kimbler who had three seconds to throw that ball and took one point one. Yeah. I really checked throw that ball into another galaxy fun at your face perfect. It was just like I always generally like reminded me the Grinch. Did anyone say that? No. I thought I looked like Chris Pratt. And that gift that's very fair. Very like, Chris Pratt. You ever look at that. Chris pratt. It's from parks and rec I don't watch party way. Chris Pratt talking about. But I know that you're the Grinch when he smiles gets. "Oh, well, the next time you see him, you tell them Sally Pomeranz from Chicago said, Hello. He won't understand that talking to him is talking to Bugs Bunny. Then you tell them what's up doc. Thank you. I don't mean a lot to him. Oh, and also they love each other. Okay. Yeah, you're mad because I met positive here. Why are you being such a jerk? Because you're a complete me and my dream last night, Tim. What he's walk right by me. Like didn't even recognize me. Ten team. You walk right by just soul. White guy also white in the dream. What that's why I didn't recognize you. You're white. The stars are Sam Richardson, and Tim Robinson Richardson was a regular on veep. Robinson was a writer and performer on Saturday Night, Live their best friends in real life. They met at the second city in Detroit, and you can feel their friendship and every scene of the show. It's rare that they're not on screen together and they're so sweet that they can really do just about anything no matter how dumb it is. We're here for the charity event, and the entry is suggested hundred dollars donation. Then I was just a much lower number. Is there an open bar? Yes. You're gonna lose money. Dumbs dupe is is dumb. This show has other virtues. Race is rarely an explicit theme in the show, but you feel it most obviously, Richardson is black and Robinson is white, and it's just fun to see such a warm, authentic friendship between two people who are different races besides that, though Detroit where the show is set is America's blackest city and Detroiters. The show reflects that there's a lot of black people in it. If there's a crowd of people, it usually make sense for a city that is eighty four percent black store clerks and doctors and advertising clients and cab drivers and people who are just, you know, wandering through the frame incidentally are mostly black. It's not like it's a show that is exclusive of other races, just a show with a ton of black people like Detroit is a city with a ton of black people and not for nothing, but Robinson's character is married to Richardson. Characters sister who's black, and it might not be until you actually see it on screen that you realize get this kind of Russia realize ation how rare it is on TV to see a man kiss a woman who has darker skin than he does that. It's not a big deal on Detroiters feels like a big deal. The thrill of all this is that the show isn't the slightest bit derisively did I mean races a real part of people's lives, and it is a real part of the show, but the show is also not focused on race. It is focused on too dumb dummies acting dumb, Sally Pomeranz just as levelly as always imagined. I mean wrong color, but just as levelly he imagines everyone black as opposed to because I'm black. Well, that could be that could be, but the magic of Detroiters is just that it's a warm place to be these guys really love each other. They love their bad ideas and they're weird families in their bizarro co-workers, Detroit is they see it. It's a really nice place to hang out. I guess I don't even really know what I think. Well, we know he existed historically, right. Yeah. Historically, we know existed. He had followers, he inspired people that's documented. We know that, but do I think that he lives in the North Pole and flies around the world one hundred year giving everybody presence? No, and I don't think you kill him. You become no, absolutely not. That's insane. If he dies, he becomes a snowflake and then whoever that snowflake lands on, that's the new Santa Claus. That's my outside. That's all for this week's bulls.
