Echo Show and Bixby Checklists

"I folks. It's burning hot top audio clip five thirty one. You are in my pocket. As I walk with my dog in the fourteenth July. Thinking about checklists. And automating routines so. If that's you. And your used to offering ideas. Yourself about what you ought to be doing. When you ought to be doing it, and how you ought to be doing it well, then maybe my meandering thoughts while walking my dog. Windy. With interest you. checklists are important for me because they helped me sleep better. When I look over what I've done during the day. And consider what might be there the next day a simple thing like looking at the Amazon Echo show. We'll tell me what's ahead. That set up the echo, so that has a screen. And on, it's eight inch screen I can see the next day is calendar. My son Dylan, he's nine. Has Put things on his calendar? By telling. His Echo. What he's GonNa do the next day he sets reminders, but he also sees our shared family calendars appearing. On that echo show. It's a bit of a checklist to see what's up the next hour or the next stay for the next week. I think these kind of events. Base activities are really important. For nine year old, it's the birthday where it's the trip away, or it's the start of the new school year. But nonetheless it's based on a rubric of a checklist. What are you going to be doing? What Day with WHO where? There are ways of taking his echoes show and integrating into a skill that offers him a chance to run a checklist by asking his echo. To run the Dylan. Nighttime checklist or running the Dylan. Go to school, checklist. What Dylan's done is he's. A particular to me the stuff he wants to do and how he wants to do it. And what we've done is we've gone into the Alexa Library. And carved out some simple skills based on some design templates so now using a voice command, he can activate a checklist. I'll tell you. It certainly has helped us. Get things in order in home that has. Two kids to adult and three animals. CHECKLISTS! By voice. Accusing the Amazon Alexa series. We also can activate a checklist using. Bixby on my Samsung phone for this by a voice command, I can telephone what to do when I'm about to enter a classroom or about to go home or about to get on a bicycle and certain things on the phone activate or deactivate. checklists. Mike Road. Takes the concept of checklists than bullet list and make some into sketch notes, so he activates a series of thoughts. Mind Map. Illustrated or Put in bulletin with this type format now. Mike Witt's tell you his sketch. Noting isn't a bullet list, but to me. It's similar as checklist based dueling system. That helps you get your thoughts out of your head. And on paper in a playful type of way I like it. How about you? You're listening to meet. Talking to you on the sidewalks of Plano Kinda chipper Ireland. Are you. Able to rewind the last ten or twelve hours and say yeah, you know what I followed a checklist I felt list based activities set and. It works for me pretty simple. It's record card and index card, or a piece of paper, or do you have something that you actually? Kickoff by listening to what the checklist is telling you for example is we can do on Amazon Alexa, or are you using something? A list based notional system tick boxes on Trello, notion, or as I'm using now on Rome research to get the work done. All these things are interesting to me. And I like to share with you how you're doing it. How are you doing your checklists? Do you have one. Do, you have an idea to share. You can contact me with feedback if you want. I always like to steal people's ideas about doing things better.

College football preseason takes shape

"I'm gonna start this Houston problem they were not all football players but I don't think that would make a difference the college football power brokers Houston in my opinion did the right thing by shutting it down but there's still more than a month and a half away before D. day for college football and its season it's been put out there with cal football wanting to start that last week in August August twenty ninth that weekend if there's nothing going on by August first than this season could be in danger maybe not a full season but at least a total season they'll be some football but maybe not as many as twelve games could be eighty could be nine no more than that so yeah that's the D. day a month and a half away before that's something accountable has to think about not just for the sport but also for the season but you and I well smart here are we we're all grown folks here we all want to see if other schools are going to do this is something like that similar happens to them the way it's happened the Houston even though they were not all football players the six that tested positive Coleman nineteen we all up with all the grown adults here we got a pretty good idea what they're going to do you know we were going to quarantine the players we're going to make sure that everybody that was around them is safe we're going to increase the tax we're going to make sure that everybody is going to be as fine as possible we're going to quarantine but we don't want anything like this to continue to get in the way of college football not being played in twenty twenty because we know what the force is out there four point two billion dollars is that force that's how much college football stands to lose if there is no college football this year they can have college football without fans in the stands and they're plenty of athletic director the same what we can do ten percent if we could do twenty percent we can advance their they may want to eat there we want to do this that's extra money that's money that we will be losing yet I got a pretty good idea what they're going to do when that four point two billion dollar force is out there and think how the future will be impacted in all college athletics and not in a good way Plano's big time budgets out the window jobs eliminated that's going to be gone to for starters it's going to be seismic if cal football's not played the full twelve games in division one division two division three NAIA junior college all that money that has always been difficult for ball may not be there going forward many people may have panicked hearing about Houston not the power five schools they say Houston that's your problem well wait a minute they went all football players who dodged that bullet okay we should be fine if we only have one football player testing positive we got a hundred twenty kids here who we should be fine it's not that bad anymore it's going to be okay Houston hang in there we're with you because of four point two billion dollars is on the line the last thing to college football you want anything or any covert nineteen potential outbreak happening that's gonna take with the sun side that has always been that money when it comes to college

U.S. health experts, officials warn protests may add to virus spread

"Good morning so I was walking around a protest outside the White House yesterday thousands of people were there many if not most of them wore masks but social distancing six feet apart not so much public health experts worry about spreading corona virus through protests and as the nation is told to continue practicing social distancing some experts also say messages from the trump administration may undermine their efforts NPR's Allison Aubrey joins us now either Allison good morning Steve how if at all could protests across the country affect the spread of the coronavirus well it's too soon to say but when you have groups of people concentrated together as we saw this weekend you have some of the key ingredients for transmission mainly prolonged close contact and the images of protesters shoulder to shoulder as you say some with masks which is good some not this certainly raises concerns Washington DC mayor Muriel Bowser spoke on NBC about it I'm concerned that we have mass gatherings in our streets when we just lifted a stay at home water and what that could mean for spikes in our coronavirus cases later in fact I'm so concerned about it that I'm urging everybody to consider their exposure if they need to isolate from their family members when they go home and if they need to be tested there is also disruption of covert testing in Los Angeles they announced a temporary closure of local testing centers over the weekend due to the unrest so a lot of concern given the close contact the lack of social distancing can people who choose to protest feel a little more safe because they are outdoors when they're protesting yes being out brick doors reduces the risk it's clear that confined indoor environments are more dangerous but you know in recent weeks have been how breaks linked to places we may not expect it's not just meat processing plants or hospitals in Arkansas there are cases linked to a high school pool party in the town of Paragould public health officials there tell me contact tracing is likely on going so they don't know the total number of cases but it's a reminder that and help break can happy anywhere where people are in close credit spaces I spoke to leaf van Boven he's a professor at the university of Colorado boulder and he points out that when you don't know personally anyone infected with the virus it may be harder to stay vigilant because the threat just seems distant so far off it and your cities it's under kinds of workers it's other ethnicities and it's hard to be compelled by something that's totally invisible and of course one of the greatest challenges is that here we were to experience the spread of code in our community would take a couple of weeks to show up so we wouldn't know right away and by the time we realized that something has gone wrong it will very much be too late the virus will be spreading so staying vigilant on social distancing wearing a mask in public spaces these are both important and he says if there were strong leadership promoting these messages in a consistent science backed away that would be helpful Alison I'm glad you mentioned science because when it comes to masks there is science but there's also politics they're people who are upset about being asked to wear masks who are refusing to do it for political reasons or maybe you just aren't very comfortable putting them on what is the evidence sure well I it's because I'm clear there's a fair amount of eighty symptomatic or pre symptomatic spread of this virus and masking helps prevent the release the virus so it's beneficial there are multiple studies to back this up new studies yet to this point about needing strong leadership to reinforce this I spoke to former CDC director Tom Frieden he says people may get mixed messages he points to the day that the CDC face covering our mascot guidance was announced at the White House the CDC recommended that everyone wear masks in certain circumstances at the same press conference the president said he wasn't going to wear a mask so this really does make our response less effective it makes it more likely that we'll have more spread of disease because some people may be less likely to comply I mean other examples in Plano of theirs the president has promoted the re opening of churches with the administration removing warnings about the risks of choirs in the president has made it known that he'd like a crack held when he speaks at the Republican can and later this summer yet per the CDC guidance we should not be gathering in crowds and we should continue social

"One of the lauwers photography at least for me is the doors can open. Being photographer has provided me access to people and communities that I might never have considered otherwise the combination of a camera and my curiosity has gifted me with meeting fascinating people and entering their world and many times. Those encounters have been especial- to me as the photographs at created. Chris suspects photography is all about that. His explorations of subcultures in the areas of music and sexuality have resulted in images. That are raw an intimate. His latest book leather boys gathers images of a segment of the gay community in and around the DC area. The story of how he gained access and his process over the years provide some valuable information for anyone taking on a long-term personal project regardless of the World. They are hoping to explore this. Is your body an ex and welcome back to the candidate frame and it was good to see. It's been a long time yet. Has I'm trying to think I guess the last time I saw you This past summer at focus on the story Ryan. I'm looking forward to talking to you. We met a couple of years back. And you're always been on my radar but it's just like as with as with so many people who I put down on my list sometimes years before I finally get them on the show but I'm glad we're funding hearing chance to sit down and chat. I do want to remind you ever. I've been on candid frame before. Are you on the panel? Yeah Yeah at Miami Straight Photography Festival but I think about it in terms of one to one conversations. Sure Yeah I had just a taste now. I get the full meal I guess. Okay okay scared me for a bit getting ready but no comment background. I found out that he come from a family. Did A lot of traveling. Your Dad was a diplomat. You were born in the Philippines. That is that is correct. I was actually adopted in the Philippines. Which is interesting and I'm definitely not Filipino. So yeah was adopted there. My family was with the State Department and my dad travel to various countries around the world. All the way up through the end of my college experience. So I've lived in Thailand Denmark Moscow London and then visited various countries for like a month or a week or whatever the entire time. Did you have any any idea in terms of your birth be? We have information get to you so I actually. When my dad passed away a couple years ago she left that to me. But I still haven't looked at it weren't well I you know. Part of it is is. My parents were my parents. I've felt adopted or not. You know it was just something. I don't know man should ask my my therapist about that but I just haven't I haven't really like I feel like I don't want to give up on. The idea of my parents are my real parents because they adopted me. And that's who cared for me you know. I'm a little scared to find out who my real parents are. What if there is life changing information there? You know who knows yeah? That's fascinating especially the fact that it's just sitting in a letter somewhere. That's well it's not. It's not just a letter. It's a whole packet with a bunch of official documents and stuff so so doing all this traveling. How did he sort of color? Your perspective in terms of when you finally came in critter life yourself here in the in the states. Well I have to say that little funny story about my first time that I remember in the United States was coming back for first grade and I could speak Danish better than it could speak English and I was held back a grade because my English language skills were not that good and then from there. I went to Thailand. I believe you know from there. I went to Moscow. Actually so I have I think a more of a kind of a like a world view of and I was friends a people of all different kinds of cultures classes races. What have you I would say was a very wholesome upbringing in terms of Having kind of a global perspective and in your early twenties you're part of a of a of a punk band music start becoming occurred of your early life so that's another a funny story I remember being in Moscow and I guess the sex pistols had come out. And this is I. Think nineteen seventy six and I guess there was a article in the New York Times or The Washington Post because we used to get that at the embassy in Moscow Mama's reading about it and she's like Chris. You wouldn't listen to that stuff would you and then and then on our First trip our trip to Helsinki Finland. We got to go to a record store in the first album. Picked up was was a clash album. Actually I didn't WanNA bring home a sex pistols but I'd done a little bit of kind of asking around the embassy like what did some of the other punk bands picked up a clash in devo album and ever since then I was kinda hooked but because I was traveling and nobody I knew played an instrument. I didn't even play an instrument and it wasn't until I got to college that I met up with some people that played instruments like one of my roommates play guitar. Who's really good? He's still actually playing today on the Jam Band Circuit and anyway so one night. We're hanging out late. It leaves the house and they're like hey play the space and I'm like I don't even know what to do. There's like follow the dots man and so I just followed what they were doing with their hands. And then I was like you. Know the hippy. Music is okay. But I'm really into punk rock. And then when I've moved back to DC after college I met up with some of the former members of the band scream. I don't scream was a big discord banned. They were banned. I really enjoyed in high school early college. And that's the band where David Grohl came from and so this is some of the other members one of the other members from scream their original drummer before girl was in the span. It was like man. This guy's awesome. I get to play with him. And that's basically how I jumped into that in. How long were you into? I played in punk bands from ninety three to two thousand and on. I'm still playing in my neighborhood so I've just been continuing that I still I still. I still play a little bit in a Plano. Reggae DUB reggae band in my in my neighborhood but I was playing. I started my own record label. I put out like twenty plus CDs with international distribution all around the world toward all over the the. Us many times so yeah. I like to travel see new places. Meeting people were using a camera. Did you document those times? Not at all? It wasn't until the birth of my son that I got a camera and that was because of my wife she was like we need to get a camera and at that time it was like I don't know if we can afford it and whatever so I got a cannon power shot and this this had been like two thousand six or so. My son was born in two thousand and five so it was a little bit after that. We we still. I think the I felt. We had the IPHONE camera which is like we need a better camera so and then are basically read the manual and then I went out just shooting around my neighborhood or wherever. Just kinda figure out figuring out all the settings and that's where I figured out like what motion blur could do and stuff like that shutter drag and that was really cool and the entire throughout my entire punk rock career. I was always going into the library or on the Internet. You later in the late nineties to find just kind of like raw images to use for flyers and that's how I kind of discovered who who we g was and Dion rbis and stuff. I didn't really look at them through photographers. I was looking more through a punk rockers. I like going. You know what? What are the photos that kind of excite me or that are weird a different? That will look really good on a flyer in peak people's interest and so I spent a lot of time in the Arlington County Public Library in their photo book section. Just kinda going through trying to find stuff and yeah and so. That's kind of so I had my and I even bought like some photo books to just to use for flyers so wasn't until I actually started work in a cameras. Like hey man I could probably make photos like those guys did in those books.

Plano Starts New Service to Check on Seniors

"Makers when most people think of libraries they think of books but they're so much more he changed a lot libraries are very dynamic institutions in terms of looking at society and meeting the needs of what this society needs at that moment the need in this coronavirus crisis world was to check on the city's most vulnerable population they're seniors Brent Blakely is the manager of the mirabelle Davis library in Plano the idea to do senior Kerr calls and I think in the beginning of April and we would call them and just have a general conversation of what they would like to talk about the violin opportunity in kind of like the social isolation they might be feeling because they were asked to stay at home the seniors they talked to are from all walks of life many of the people that we've contacted actually were very active in the community and they were suddenly couldn't decision where they could be involved in those activities still and we also had people that were somewhat isolated already because of illness and different things in our lives that kept them at home the the goal is generally just designed to provide a social outlet for and so far the program has been a success we have had people as we started to repeat calls they made the comment to us that they were looking forward to hearing from us that we since we started we continue to have these sign ups and we're planning to continue the service at the mercy of a future Blakely admits his staff loves it too when you first start something like this you're not sure how the public's going to react or how the staff is participating and I I had several staff members tell me how much they enjoyed the calls that they make to the seniors and you know responses seniors today said nice things about them and you know and in some states started develop sort of a phone friendship that was somebody that they didn't know until you know nothing you have to go we're proud to call Plano libraries and their staffs this week's KRLD difference makers the library of false as society evolves around it and you know right now in the society that we're in this is a read that needs to be solved because these people are part of our city and we don't want them to feel left behind CZ series newsradio ten eighty

And it's on the Bio our blog project lead Christian dailly outlined the current state of anthem two point noting that regardless of the current circumstances. The team is committed to the project. The thirty strong team behind the game are currently working from home. Do the due to the impact of the Kobe. Nineteen pandemic but daily notes that the Games incubation phase has kicked off that incubation just makes me think of like an egg hatch tastes my brain somewhere else. All right in his own words daily describes the incubation phase as a prototyping period we are signs validate our design hypothesis daily statement reads. We're going back and experimenting slash prototyping to improve on the areas where we believe. We fell shorts and to leverage everything that you currently love about anthem. According to daily the nature of this approach means that anthem two point. We'll be longer process. So don't expect the new version of the game to arrive anytime soon. Quote the team is small but the whole point of this. Take our time and go back to the drawing board daily notes. A small team gives us the agility a larger one can't afford daily also talked about transparency in assured fans that they would see things that look awesome but end up on the cutting room floor. Things that you might think suck that you feel. We are spending too much time on in the spirit of experimentation. The team wants to bring those interested in anthem along for the ride but daily notes that scene. How the sausage is made is not always pretty something. We're very familiar with here. The anthems overhaul was announced in February with manager. Casey Hudson admitting the game quote needs a more satisfying lewd experience better long-term progression in a more fulfilling and game.

"A dollar fifteen in Plano at the cosco on the Dallas north tollway feeder road at park now the current local averaging Dallas is about a dollar forty three it's a dollar forty in fort worth gas prices continue to drop their down eight cents in a week and a dollar and a quarter lower than this time last year homeowners across the area would normally would be getting their property appraisal notices this month but a lot of the appraisal districts have delayed sending these notices because of corona virus Ryan raven rate tax group says these notices are going out next month instead and watch out for higher value we were looking at probably record high values throughout the state of Texas and I really hadn't changed the only thing that's changed on that with with all this is the fact that most of the county to push back their their notice states the Tarrant county appraisal district sending out its notices on may first homeowners in Dallas and Collin counties we'll start seeing them after may fifteenth at AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament has settled on it's a new home for the next five years TPC Craig ranch in McKinney we were basically overwhelmed with the passion that they brought to the discussions the number of partners that they brought in basically the the homework that they have done the city itself the golf course business community at all really rallied around this opportunity and it became pretty clear that they were gonna be on next on that tournament director John Draco the tournament had been held at Trinity forest in south Dallas the last two years but was canceled this year due to cope in nineteen front here communications one of the biggest cable and internet providers in North Texas and it just filed for chapter eleven frontier says it has ten billion dollars in debt that it needs to restructure before it can come out from under that umbrella explained to sell its operations in the Pacific Northwest to another company it also says the filing will not impact the service that it provides in Texas and half the country frontier went into most of the debt when about wired lines from Dallas is eighteen T. and Verizon a few years back the Texas workforce commission says nearly one point one million people had filed for unemployment over the past five weeks Harris County has the most at nearly one hundred and twenty eight thousand TWC's unofficial total so far this week is sixty four thousand seven hundred and the surge it's likely not over economists fear the state's unemployment rate for this month could hit double digits TWC has been swamped and many people have been unable to get through the agency says it has ramped up its call centre and added a virtual assistant to its website Chelsea Wade news radio ten eighty KRLD senator Elizabeth Warren has finally given her endorsement for the twenty twenty presidential democratic candidates she says she's behind presumptive nominee Joe Biden warned older supporters empathy matters adding it's more important than ever that the next president restores America's faith in good effective government warnings the third big indoor spent for buying in this week following Bernie Sanders on Monday and Barack Obama on Tuesday there are different ways to escape from the reality of corona virus one of those ways is through online gaming but there's something ironic in the types of games that people are looking to play new numbers from gain trading site find the highest demands are for games that deal with fighting against pandemics is a two hundred percent increase in interest for global pandemic games seventy five percents for games that deal with survival like state of decay or the division two and a game called plague incorporated has seen a sixty one hundred percent increase in popularity it now has a high heard thirty million people playing online well we are keeping a close watch on the roads as some of you still have to get around town to get things done Dallas north tollway remission out to you Sunnyvale it's all in the report coming up in just a few the.

R. of the Lagos is staying off the road these days and it could spell trouble for states like Texas in the long run Ryan beene is with Bloomberg talk to Chris summer personal travel well last week was down about fifty percent compared to normal levels and they defined that as the last week of February before we started to see these broad stay at home orders and other social distancing measures to combat the spread of the coronavirus be applied that is a stunning number to think that traffic overall is down by half now at the same time there are a lot of states who could feel the financial pinch even more even though this lighter traffic is good for those of us who need to get out why could this really have a big impact Ryan on state budgets all this lighter traffic all state budget particularly those for the transportation department of state are heavily reliant on gasoline taxes to support not just new construction projects but ongoing operation like like line painting and just general road maintenance and traffic management centers all over the country you know some states rely on either fuel taxes or tax revenue collected from vehicle sales or driver license and registration fees that we have to pay the D. and B. every every you know every so often in some states rely on that on those driving and vehicle related revenues for as much as seventy five percent of their state transportation budget and a trade association that represents the state transportation department the Ross the country has they're estimating that state DOT is could see a thirty percent reduction in their revenues over the next eighteen months and finally I was aware that most of the big auto insurance companies had announced plans to give rebates for a portion of this period when we're dealing with the corona virus but I had no idea Ryan how big that overall number had become yeah I I'm not sure what the total count is yet because we've had you know several big insurance companies say that they're going to you know give a refund or partial credit to monthly premiums but State Farm came out last week and that they would spend at something to the tune of two billion dollars issuing refunds of the ads that are gonna average out to about twenty five percent to their but a policy holders that for the premiums that they paid group from March like like like late March through their late may State Farm is the biggest insurance auto insurer in the country so sort of makes sense that you see that's a big number but it speaks to sort of dismiss the impact that less driving has had any people are driving lights they're also getting into fewer accidents not the rate necessarily but the number of accidents some researchers in California at the university of California Davis looking at big data found that the shelter in place order imposed by governor Gavin Newsom has basically cut in half the number of daily crash daily vehicle accidents in the state and the number of vehicle accidents that result in injury or fatality so I guess if you're looking for silver linings that might be what we're seeing less death and less you know bodily harm on the roadway.

"Of Plano news center president trump is saying the cure for battling the corona virus should not be worse than the problem while lobbying for a swifter enter coronavirus restrictions he made the remarks during a press conference yesterday Dr David agus tells CBS this morning ending restrictions too soon could be very dangerous I think everybody thinks that it needs to be a four to six week minimum of what we call the social distancing now remember each person in the Chinese data can actually spread to two and a half people so if you stop it and they're still virus it will keep going and grow up again so we have to be clear on that my god is I mean obviously science will win and the data will win and I think my whole what the president is saying is let's see data every day and see where we are and then make a decision based on the data let's not say in advance that it's going to be X. number of weeks and that I buy into the key thing here really is to see what's going on and so what we're going to see is the end of this week we're going to see the impact of what we all have done the last week which is draconian measures we all have played a part in stepped back and hopefully dramatically stop the spread of the virus he says let's not let the cure be worse than the problem does that make sense to you in a while yeah I'm not an economist but what I do know is the economy won't deal well with the virus keeps going and so I think you have to look at on both sides is so if you open the economy and the virus keeps going we're gonna be in a worse situation than we are and now we should say that in most businesses probably are not likely to reopen if there is still a health crisis but I want to ask you how will we know when it is safe to loosen these restrictions so we need to see the stop the spread of the virus into community spread which is person to person spread has to go down dramatically in order to loosen the restrictions it's a numbers game and at the same time if we start to have treatment so let's say we do find somebody with a virus we can actually give them a drug that we know works we can actually stop the spread from him to somebody else or her to to other people Dr that president raise the specter of suicides if the economy tanks is badly some economists think it will within there is a term for that in the in the literature deaths of despair is it legitimate to calculate those sort of fatalities against the fatalities that come with the virus itself of course you have to look at the whole picture right we are in enterprise and so you cannot just say you know we're gonna put everyone in the house forget the economy forget jobs we're gonna have social disruption we're gonna have young people started going to the streets it's a I've got no income I can't survive and so it needs to be a hybrid of those and you know as we get more more science and data we can figure out exactly what to do so as we think about what potentially opening up sectors of the economy of portions of the country want one idea raised by the president is that certain parts of the country less hard hit could come back sooner economically is that a legitimate approach I think we can open certain parts of the country potentially although I'm not sure that's going to be likely but the other side is people who've been exposed that has antibodies to the virus and it's safe for them to go out they can be an upstart part of the economy we can actually differentiate elderly haven't been exposed very high risk if you have been exposed you can go out wait David before you go doctor found she wasn't at the press conference yesterday a lot of people find his presence very reassuring was it a surprise to you that he wasn't there I know you've talked to the White House about different things re reading too much into it yeah I think you know this and I think I hope is they want to so citizens have a small number of people you can't have a panel of ten people speaking at every conference he's a reassuring voice and he's real science and we all believe in again that CBS's Dr David agus on CBS this morning and over get information of course is changing by the minute on the coronaviruses stories will stay with KRLD it will have.

"The Mercedes Benz of Plano news center and now more CBS evening news joining us now is Surgeon General Dr Jerome Adams he's often referred to as the nation's top doctor Dr Adams thank you very much for joining us glad to be here nor there is a new study out today from the national institutes of health but says the virus can live on surfaces for up to days twenty four hours on cardboard two to three days on plastic and stainless steel what do Americans need to know to protect themselves well the most important thing for Americans to know if that they should clean their surfaces frequently and that they should wash their hands frequently because the two ways you're going to transmit corona virus from a surface is by having a dirty surface around your house in my not washing your hands after you touch that surface the mayor of New York City said he is considering a shelter in place policy if major cities did that would that help slow the spread of this invisible enemy well I'm glad you brought that up because of Tony felt she and I talked multiple times a day every day and as Tony says if it seems like an overreaction right now then you're probably about where you need to be again it's why the administration put out these guidelines for all of America not just for a certain areas but for all of America to look at the ways that they can take prevents transmission of the V. as in their communities and I wouldn't fault any mayor any governor for what they're considering in their communities but at the very least limit social gatherings to less than ten a stay at home if you can from work and avoid nonessential travel let me ask you as a doctor what's your message to adults over the age of sixty who are healthy and they say I'm not worried about getting coronavirus my messages to everyone fifteen days you can do anything for fifteen days stay at home as much as possible limit the spread we do not want to look like Italy does two weeks from now I know your dad I'm a mom many parents have this question can my kids have playdates should day we said no playdates my wife just finished cancer treatment she is at higher risk I actually myself have chronic medical conditions I'm pre diabetic and it's just not worth the risk to the two of us but it's not worth the risk of our kids being spreaders and potentially taking it to someone else all right thank you Dr Jerome Adams our Surgeon General we appreciate it tonight as much of the world considers new lockdowns to stop the corona virus cases have declined substantially in China and South Korea remain Asensio looks at what those two nations have done to get the upper hand in the battle in south Korea's capital Seoul cleaning crews disinfect subway cars several times each day and drive through corona virus testing gives ten thousand.

"The Mercedes Benz of Plano news center hope you're having a great Friday night listen to us while you're at work just download the radio dot com out then click on the hard to favorite KRLD sometimes it duty calls when you're not on duty that's what happened to one North Texas nurse who helped save lives after a plane crash while he was on vacation here's this week's Harold E. community hero Joseph Brookshire has seen plenty as a trauma nurse at Texas help but it was on a trip to Canada for nursing conference when duty called I've just outlined take off right I just happen to be at this little dirt airfield for whatever reason the planting get any higher and so all of a sudden it like took a steep nose dive to the last and disappeared on as little riser hill there was no explosion and or or any smoke or anything generally registers a plane crash but I thought I should go check on that about a mile up the road he saw the plane crashed in a river that ran parallel to the runway can't say that I was particularly. king I just got out of the car and ran down the bank and. now to the plane and walk and swam out there by that time other good Samaritans had arrived to help players all crumpled so we assisted pilot getting out it the pilot was pretty groggy and didn't have any visible external injuries occurred to talk to us so we got him out first because it was easier for one more people came helps I passed them off from my bank to get the passenger who's in much worse condition has somebody was having to hold his head out of the water it took a little bit longer to get him out this after we got him this or we did CPR on him until EMS arrived and then the M. S. took over the crash made the news in Canada where reports said without their help the men probably would not have survived I'm just glad that the plane crashed in a place where people could help them because if it had been in the woods they probably would have died if it had been farther away from where we couldn't see it from the road you know I probably would have explored any farther and the probably both sort of passed away we're proud to call Joseph Brookshire this week's KRLD community hero I think everybody there was trying to give these people the best chance to survive in this instance where there's no pressure you know wants to help can be thirty minutes or an hour away we are the help here the humanity is the help and I think you suppose out by your fellow human beings Susie Sony's news radio ten eighty KRLD and if you know someone who's doing great things in the community center an email on our website it care all the dot com.

"Good morning. Everybody said wallet. You got it done. Yep. If you just didn't last week, you would've been five in a row would always got to go back to that lives. Okay. But. You know, as his friend of near forty years thirty nine years, I can say this even when his younger, he hated rehearsing. Walla's? Welcome to wheels for this Saturday morning. Joining us in studio today, the lovely charming. Always vivacious Roosevelt may good morning morning with how fines Hyundai in plano downtown plano, actually, how finds Hyundai plano down. Downtown get you get it. Right. Yeah. You know, I still see open-field behind you. Yeah. A little bit. But I'm trying to figure out how prospers happening when we still have open fields right across you mean to tell me if we went to our downtown, Des Moines. There's no open fields mind. Lisa have Cornyn. Well, we have corn. Now. That's probably why we have canned corn. Right. And it had open-field field all around I had to go back and do it again because I had to leave halfway through the show, and it was cornfield. Really? Yes. I've actually done remotes in cornfields. Wow. In texas. Also, join us del Randolph who runs how find Sunday up in McKinney. Hey, good morning. The real far end of the Metroplex. Yeah. Yeah. It's going away fast. That's what they keep saying except they've got open-field cross Roosevelt store. Okay. So this week has been another big week for trade. Excuse me. Yesterday. President Trump said he is working on creating new terrorists. On another two hundred sixty five billion dollars of goods from China. Yesterday. He brings Japan into the mix saying that he is going to target them over automobiles. Yesterday after a few days of renegotiation on NAFTA. Where it doesn't appear much progress has been made the president said he is going to he is threatened Canada with ruination on automobiles. So I couldn't help at this morning. I had to put the headline up Trump threatens China Trump turns Japan Trump threatens Canada. Wow. Now, that's not the way I wouldn't go. She had a deal. You know, it's like selling car. First thing you don't do as walk up and threaten your customer that walks on the lot just seems to be bad for. But that being said, we just also this morning because of the automotive news. They have a survey out on dealers on what their outlook is because of all these trade issues going on nine percent of the dealer surveyed said, they think it's going to have the positive impact on business. Thirty five percent say it's not gonna make any difference. Either way. Fifty six percent say it's going to have a negative impact. But it just so happens. I have the two guys here who deal in cars from South Korea. The one country. That's in the clear, you guys are doing fine. I, you know, go ahead. Yeah. I think I think we. As right now just talking to customers every day like we love to do in in in in. We just don't see a whole lot of people walking in with any concerns about what's happening. The good news about Hyundai is about seventy percent of the cars that we sell or made right here in America. Great many. Absolutely. So that that's a that's a positive. So I if anything happened. With South Korea. I believe there will be it wouldn't be as impactful for us as some of the other manufacturers. Well, again, the reason South Korea's kind of out of the equation is because President Trump would like to make a step forward with North Korea. Yes, he has great hopes that maybe some of this. What apparently is now seventy year animosity can be brought back level, and he is a real optimism optimist that he can do this. And so he needs South Korea got his back on the whole time. That's understandable. Absolutely. As a result. It's not happening, Dan. What about your store up further north? I think Hyundai's doing the job themselves that they're they're building. Better automobiles creating the product that I'm talking about the customers walking in. I'm not I'm not hearing concerns or. Again, at they're they're buying on because of Hyundai's not. I don't think even if we were involved, even if we were one of these countries that were producing cars in the they were to go up. I don't I don't think it would affect our business was a well again, he is threaten a twenty five percent tariff on European autos and understand why he's doing this is his first shot negotiating to try to get theoretically what you want to get out of the the deal. So I make fun of it because I've never seen his take on so many different countries at the same time. I'm not sure that's what's prudent, but. I asked the guys that are with BMW, Volkswagen and Mercedes and they go customers walking in. They couldn't care less has no impact on them whatsoever. Japan's been thrown into this. Yes. The guys with customers couldn't care less. It's like, it's it's not even an equation to him. It'd be interesting to you know, win. And if it all happens what's going to happen. I think these these car companies they do well, some it's all about the transaction value at the end of the day. And you know, they're scared to death of you know, to do a five hundred dollar price increase. I just don't I don't see it being that big of a deal. Even if it even if it all went down, and it was it was bad Roosevelt. One of the things in the agreement. We came with Mexico is it we're gonna if it if the cars built in Mexico currently has to have sixty two point five percent of the content of that car. Be built like here in the North American region right America for the most part, right? Seventy percent of those cars already meet that requirement. But consider this. If a car is built here in America and sold in America. What percentage of American parts does it have to happen it twenty none? None because you're not crossing borders. Remember, that's all deal as the trade agreement is crossing borders. So it would be simple enough to shift some parts production goes into vehicles here in America. Make them go south of the border for the small percentage that don't qualify. The thirty percent of the cars, you're building with fewer American parts here. Right and everybody still compliant. They say on average parts or pieces of cars cross borders, seven six or seven times before the car finally is manufactured. They can just go back and forth and back and forth back and forth. You just relying your your your chain for you parts and you're compliant. It's not really that hard to do. And that's an issue that nobody ever talks about. But again, I I don't know why cantor wooden sign off on that knowing that's the case. But as I talk to guys do European cars, the Japanese cars all that stuff. Off. It's like no customer is saying do I need to buy now or prices go up. I'm not getting much of that stuff. No, not at all of the tariffs. Do come into effect. Especially for Japan is there's not a work around for that. Right. It's going to see an increase in those cars again. There are many Japanese cars made here in America. And they're not tariff bright again, if you do that over an agreement, you can always go to the World Trade Organization, and we have rules on what tariffs are this like if Mexico or Canada drop out of NAFTA it adds a two and a half percent tariff crossing the border into America. You have to say is it more expensive to buy the parts of pay a tariff? Mexico said fine. We'll do it Canada will end up doing the same thing. However, there is a story coming up for Toyota, did, you know, like twelve of their sixteen plants in Japan or shutdown? No, I did not know there you go. That's right. They had an earthquake in Northern Ireland a condo this week. And it was a critical motor factory now. Shut down twelve of their factories indefinitely until they can get it up and running again, while Honda get this has three factories underwater. Wow. I mean, I I was looking at the photos of the got one in Thailand the gallon in Japan. The got the one in Mexico, and I'm going do they build other plants in in flood plains now? Because you'll see this big lake water. And there's a Honda plant right in the center of it. Strange days strange days. We're talking today with Roosevelt who's the general manager of huffing Sunday plano nowhere near downtown. By the way guy. I don't want him going downtown looking for the store. Well, you know, listen. Okay, car some call me. You know, they call me. I'll tell you exactly where the store is. But it is it's it's a new downtown plano actually from here on out like the the customers listeners gray when they come in to see you. Yes. When they first thing is say nice to meet you Roseville. You're nowhere near downtown. Right. Okay. Yeah. Do it. Yeah. And they'll Randolph with her fines McKinney who's actually near downtown Sherman three miles from the square. Yeah. There you go. We did we did a deal. I guess it was last year where we where we asked to we asked the listeners still out to to to bring Dale a Cup of coffee from for his free Cup of coffee. Oh, asking me. I thought it was a Cup of coffee from seventy eleven now snags asking for oh asking that. Okay. Dale was going to give away free coffee. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He'll he'll do it today to hold on. Now. He's got call. And he called you and said, what am I supposed to be doing here? We're saving all of that for the customer. Sometimes it's like the credit card commercial priceless. Right. Priceless. When Roosevelt call me, Dale just called me. Gus harass for that coffee. Coming up next turns out the stories that everybody's going to give up their cars. So they can use Uber lift in the future. Isn't exactly right. Plus Uber decides if you're not a great passenger you can't use the service anymore. That's coming up next on five seventy KLIF, Dane, minor general manager of Freeman Toyota and Hearst and in two thousand seventeen Freeman sold. More new Toyotas than any other Toyota dealer in the Fort Worth metro area based on sales.
