"Well laura fills and new york times bestseller author speaker and feminist leader who has gained national recognition as a social and political advocate of women's rights in two thousand thirteen. She cofounded take the lead a nonprofit initiative with the goal to propel women to leadership parody by twenty twenty-five. She's also the former ceo and president of planned parenthood federation america directly organization from nine thousand nine hundred ninety six to two thousand and five gloria. Welcome to the show. Thank you bury. Thanks for having me. I really wanna thank you for all the work you did at the beginning of your career and planned parenthood. It really made a difference to so many women around the country. So thank you. Well thank you. And i consider myself very fortunate to have been able to make by life's passions into my life's work so before we get into the things you're working on now since it's in the news take us give us your take on the new texas law and how do you think it's going to affect rule v wade in the long run. I wanna start my saying that. I believe that abortion has never been about. it is about women's human and civil rights to make her own childbearing decisions and unfortunately it has been framed otherwise but until we take it to that higher value set we will keep fighting the same battles over and over and over again and that is why i believe it's so important to have gender parity in leadership so that you have the perspectives of women and men as laws are being made so with that said I will say that. I have I really believe that that roe has been so eviscerated that it's it's guarantees are no longer solid but what people mostly don't understand. Is that the the cases that the principles of row are the same principles as griswold versus connecticut which gave us the right to birth control the same principles as lawrence versus texas which began to codify gay rights. So people need to understand that this is more than a battle over what people would like you to think it's about and i think it's time for the women's movement to take a completely different tack take control the agenda pass laws like the freedom of choice act that will guarantee that everybody has the right to make their own childbearing decisions and go forward from there. I don't seem to understand. Is that some of these. Legislators are so big on the right to choose not to wear a mask. Should people bill choose what they want to do with their body. Well you know. It's one of those things that i think you couldn't outlaw reproductive rights until you outlaw hypocrisy absolutely so do you think laura. We're currently moving forward or backward when it comes to gender and race equality in the workplace perfect question. it's both berry. It's really both that there are days when it feels like. We're moving forward and backward at almost the same pace. Fortunately i have the opportunity to be able to see the long view and there has been an immense amount of progress overall. But as martin luther king said the the the arc of the moral universe bends toward justice. But i have to ask. How long does that arm has to beat. And it seems very long right now but i do think that we have an opportunity such as we will never have again in our lifetime a disruption like the pandemic forces people to think differently and forces new ideas into systems. Give me let me give you an example Did you ever think you would hear us talking about child care and elder care as infrastructure. I would have never imagined in my lifetime that we would. We would be not only talking about it but but deep into consideration of of funding it so it because now people understand that these are issues that human beings deal with and that needs to be given proper attention. I think that it's a time. When businesses are recognizing in fact that first of all they may not need all that expensive real estate that ad secondly that people can work in different ways that you can work more flexibly that part of the time at least you can work at home and still be just as productive that you can take care of your family obligations and do your work so things that women have been asking for flexibility that women have been asking for for decades are now becoming routine so i see i like to see the positive side of it. You know it's interesting to me. Because i am being sixty one years old and this being twenty twenty one for me. I can't believe we're even talking about this. Because i just assumed there would be parody. Is that the old guard. Doesn't want to give up the privileges just like in so many other areas there is what has been referred to as a thick layer of men at the top and so they have to take. It will take time for that to change but even more than that. And this was the shocker. For me berry was in my research for my books. I found that actually. Some of the biggest barriers are in our own heads in women's own heads. Because we not not that we're hardward differently but that men and women tend to be socialized differently around power end intention and in order for that to change. I am focusing on helping women understand that hauer is not a negative. It's what you make out of it like a hammer. You can build something with it or you can break something apart. So let's take the positive side of it as being the power to do what you what you think is right in this world and then that removes many of the barriers that women have had to seeing themselves as powerful into wanting to be powerful when you realize you could use that power for good. You know it's interesting to me. Because i look back at my career and especially before i started my own business i was ibm and the best leaders in in my business segment involved with have been women. Because i believe they got people better. They saw them as individuals and severe able to lead them in a much more effective way. I don't know why other people don't realize that. I think that is such an astute observation berry. Because one of the things that i that i teach women now is how to use. What has been implicit bias. A about the people would laugh at at behaviors that women would have but in truth. Those very bias. These are what have created in us again. It's culture acculturated is not hardwired that they have created characteristics in women that do make us the very leaders that companies need right now. That's why all the data shows that companies that have more women in their upper leadership are more profitable. I've seen before and then also noticing that at least early on the company that countries have the most success against cova were countries that would lead by women. Exactly exactly you know when you have been the the group that's not in power you have to learn to read the room. You have to learn to do what you said. Berry you have to learn to read people better you have to be more collaborative because that's where your survival is is in collaboration with other people you have to have a little less ego. Maybe a little more risk aversion and those are things that result in in in companies making more profits and in countries. Being better managed. I guess you could say but also apparently a the world bank did a study found that countries that have more women in their parliaments. Have a better decision making process. And i do think that boils down to that. We've been acculturated because we have had to to be able to have more empathy and to read the room better. So gloria ward really was your inspiration really to make this.

"planned parenthood federation america" Discussed on The Ben Shapiro Show

"Now the wonderful thing for the democrats for joe biden is it if their political opponents are so in thinkable terrible if they are just the worst people in the world you never ever have to work with them and increasingly this is the perspective of the biden administration so yesterday the democrats in a rather little noticed change they just got rid of the hyde amendment to the high is a long standing. Bipartisan agreements between democrats and republicans that there will be no direct federal funding of abortions. If there's money that goes from the federal government to for example planned parenthood. It has to go into their non abortion activities. Now it's a bit of a legal fiction in the sense that oh money is fungible so if you fun planned parenthood's rents they take the money they were gonna use for their runs and then use that for abortions but at the very least the federal government was not going to be directly involved in the funding of abortion and this was agreed to for decades literally decades going all the way back to henry hyde proposing it decades ago of this joe biden. Well yesterday house. Democrats on monday. Took steps to advance in new spending bill for the without de hhs without the hyde amendment in moving the spending bill to the full house appropriations committee for debate and vote. Democrats followed through on president. Joe biden's proposed budget which also did not include the amendment house. democrats had indicated. They would go this route and in doing so. Effectively guaranteed that abortion access will be central focus of government funding negotiations between democrats and republicans. Who do have the votes to block the democrats measure from passing the senate without changes before a house panel is expected to approve the bill and send the measure to the chamber for vote. It's not yet clear. If measure clear. The narrowly divided chamber without the hyde amendment given democrats slim majority. You'll remember that in two thousand eighteen. Joe biden was in favor of the hyde amendment and then he reversed his stance because of course he was running to the left in order to try to fend off bernie sanders. The idea was the federal government. Abortion was so threatened by the states. The federal government had to step in and they had to fund abortion. And now they're gonna ram through your taxpayer dollars funding other people's abortions at the federal level on a sheer party. Line vote because the people who are standing in the way of that are so bad. You definitely cannot work with them. So they're getting rid of the hyde amendment totally raise the house. Appropriations committee rose borough of connecticut's quote allowing the hyde amendment. Remain on the books. Say disservice to our constituents alexis miguel johnson president and ceo of planned. Parenthood federation america said in a statement. Her organization was thrilled quote for far too long the racist and sexist hyde amendment has put the government in control of a personal health decision for many people with low incomes have has because all it says is that i'm not paying for your abortion isn't data abortion in any way it says i will not pay for your abortion nor should the taxpayer but the broader point here is pretty simple. Democrats have basically decided they no longer wish to work with people on the other side of the aisle and their excuse for not attempting to negotiate for not attempting to be bipartisan. Is those people are just so bad. We can't even talk to them. And this is why john sake is now saying that. You know joe biden has changed his mind. He would love to have amnesty in this gigantic. Three point five trillion dollar budget bill. He would love. That sounds great to him. Now you may be saying yourself. Wait a second a budget bill. What does that like. Shouldn't there be a separate immigration bill. That's negotiated especially because in the past. There have been these sort of gang of eight scenarios gang of twelve scenarios. Republicans and democrats have put together a framework for what to do. For example about the so-called dreamers. People were brought to the united states as children and the parents were legal immigrants and they were children so they were not born in the united states wants to do about those. There has been some attempted bipartisanship on this in the past now. Democrats are like those. Those republicans are just terrible. We won't negotiate with them. We're just gonna ram this thing through. Here's jen psaki saying. Yeah you know after all joe here. He would love amnesty in the budget. Bill wanna put Citizenship pathway into the reconciliation package is the white house supportive of stranded. Yep yes yes yes. Not only that chuck schumer has now say that. He is going to force a vote on the bipartisan. Infrastructure plan negotiated by mitt romney on the one side and people. Kristen him up. On the other. One point two trillion dollar infrastructure plan. Schumer's plan here is forced the republicans to vote on the bipartisan. Plan before they get to the three point five trillion dollar plan. They plan to shut down at the same time which they're gonna join us. Your party line vote now mitt. Romney needs to say. I will not vote for this unless i have assurances from joe manchin and kristen cinema. They do not vote for the boondoggle plan. Basically this whole silly game was created by the democrats in order that think of a think of a water balloon. You squeeze one end of the water balloon. All the water just goes to the other side of the water balloon. This is basically what they've done with their two parts strategy there to part of legislative strategy right on what they've said is we've. Here's the bipartisan bill. Parzival was two trillion dollars and here was the sheer party. Line vote bill. And let's say that bill was going to be three trillion dollars. Well if we squeeze out like a trillion bucks here in the bipartisan bill. It'll just inflate the partisan bill over here and we'll get larger and so in the end the combined bills will be the exact same amount of spending. It's just that joe biden will enable to say that he did it with the veneer of bipartisanship. This needs to stop now. Romney's made clear it's going to stop now unless mansion in cinema kill the three point five trillion dollar boondoggle. That biden is pushing forward. But again it's not about productive. Conversation for the democrats is about hard nosed politics. Your political opponents are evil and you will ram everything you can through a party. Line vote and by the way radically change the way that the government is done in the united states without necessarily killing filibuster now. The democrats are really pretty openly heaven for awhile calling for the end of the filibuster because after all the republicans are just so terrible to just such jim crow segregationists that we can't have the filibuster anymore. Needs to completely go at. What does this resulted. What this results in is more and more americans feeling like you know what i don't have a ton of commonality with people in the rest of the country if the federal government sees me as the enemy if the institutions weaponized by the federal government or in coordination with the federal government in coordination with the media if those institutions are weaponized against me. If i'm the guy that is going to be called by the joint chiefs of staff. Because i voted for trump. If that's who i am. I don't wish to share a country with you. There's a new poll out showing support for essentially regional unions. And it's it's pretty fascinating bowl. This poll is a is courtesy of yougov. Okay and what. The poll shows is that sixty six percent of republicans in the southeast ranging from texas to florida say that they would be interested in seceding from the united states to join a new regional union. Now this sort of parallel by the north west and the north west forty seven percent like basically a west coast forty seven percents of democrats. Say that they would like to see it from the united states to join a new regional union in other words where people are living in more red states or blue states. They feel more alienated but particularly people in red states. Right now feel like they're under assault. Which is why they're seeking more states level action more strong governors nor to stand up against federal predation. This is just wanting to continue. It's just going to continue. And all the joe biden promised it doesn't exist so long as joe biden refuses to say to his own. Basically your neighbors are not the enemy. And he refuses to. If he doesn't refuse to characterized his neighbors as the enemy is gonna get much worse much much more quickly already. We've accurate later today with an additional hour of content. "planned parenthood federation america" Discussed on The Ben Shapiro Show

"Now the wonderful thing for the democrats for joe biden is it if their political opponents are so in thinkable terrible if they are just the worst people in the world you never ever have to work with them and increasingly this is the perspective of the biden administration so yesterday the democrats in a rather little noticed change they just got rid of the hyde amendment to the item is a long standing. Bipartisan agreements between democrats and republicans that there will be no direct federal funding of abortions. If there's money that goes from the federal government to for example planned parenthood. It has to go into their non abortion activities. Now it's a bit of a legal fiction in the sense that all money is fungible. So if you fun planned parenthood's rent they take the money they were gonna use for their runs and then use that for abortions but at the very least the federal government was not going to be directly involved in the funding of abortion. And this was agreed to for decades literally decades going all the way back to henry hyde proposing it decades ago. This joe biden well yesterday house. If measure clear narrowly divided chamber without the hyde amendment given democrats slim majority. So they're getting rid of the hyde amendment totally razi. The house appropriations committee rose borough of connecticut's and quote allowing the hyde amendment. Remain on the books. Say disservice to our constituents alexis miguel johnson president and ceo of planned. Parenthood federation america said in a statement. Her organization was thrilled quote for far too long the racist and sexist hyde amendment has put the government in control of a personal health decision for many people with low incomes have has because all it says is that i'm not paying for abortion isn't data abortion in any way it says. I will not pay for your abortion nor should the taxpayer but the broader point here is pretty simple. Democrats have basically decided they no longer wish to work with people on the other side of the aisle and their excuse for not attempting to negotiate for not attempting to be bipartisan. Is those people are just so bad. We can't even talk to them. And this is why john sake is now saying that. You know joe biden. Who's changed his mind. People were brought to the united states as children and the parents were legal immigrants and they were children's they were not born in the united states. Wants to do about those. There has been some attempted bipartisanship on this in the past now. Democrats are like those. Those republicans are just terrible. We won't negotiate with them. We're just gonna ram this thing through. Here's jen psaki saying. Yeah you know after all joe here. He would love amnesty and the budget. Bill wanna put Citizenship pathway into the reconciliation package is the white house supportive of strategy. Yep yes yes yes. Not only that chuck schumer has now say that. He is going to force a vote on the bipartisan. Infrastructure plan negotiated by mitt romney on the one side and people kristen cinema on the other one point two trillion dollar infrastructure plan. Parzival was trillion dollars and here was the sheer party line. Vote bill and let's say that bill was going to be three trillion dollars. Well if we squeeze out like a trillion bucks here in the bipartisan bill. It'll just inflate the partisan bill over here and we'll get larger and so in the end the combined bills will be the exact same amount of spending. It's going to stop now unless mansion in cinema kill the three point five trillion dollar boondoggle. That biden is pushing forward.
