"But even then, even, you know, after, you know, the the collapse in the 2016 playoffs, you know, my interest level really bottomed out. Like I really wasn't going to more than one game a year. I wasn't watching a ton. You know, now they're, you know, very competitive. But even if they were moderately competitive, you know, I would be watching more games. I'd be going to more games like it just it all kind of lines up. It's a very it seems like a simple equation to me. Yep. All right. Last one for a PK Steinberg writes in fill in the blank. The Phillies are blank inconsistent. He has some options here. Mildly, wildly or maddening inconsistent. Yes, sir. I'm going to defer to you on this one because, A, you've demonstrated you're the biggest Phillies fan in the history of the Philadelphia Phillies. And B, it's I think we've demonstrated this year. If I ever speak of the Phillies, it will set off a slump. So I'm just going to leave it for you. I very much appreciate the two of you specifically not talking about the Phillies because I feel like you jinx them every time as it has been discussed. I'm going to say wildly. I'm going to be optimistic. I believe in them and I would rather them get a slow start and then peak at the right time than be overhyped. Well, they're an interesting team. You know, I was going to say something nice, but never mind. I'm not saying anything. All right. That's it for Bleacher Tweets. Hashtag Bleacher Tweets on Twitter. "All right, buster. It is time for bleacher tweets. Let's hear your ranch here. I can't. Who are you gonna rip? Which team, which entity, which musical artists tell me what you got? Okay, well, it's gonna be a little bit of a different rant. It's gonna be a rant about how great my mom is. Shocker. Because yeah, you know what? It's Mother's Day. She did all well on Sunday, but this is our right before Mother's Day. She deserves it. I mean, she flew in across the country to take care of me for a week. When I probably was fine and all we had and we just had the best time, we binge watched Abbott elementary. She was there for me through every stage of it all and I was not like the easiest patient at times. I was rather dramatic. In some moments and she handled it all like a champ. So shout out to all the moms out there and shout out to Patti Abbott. So tell me about your goodbye before she laughs. What was that like? I sobbed. I don't know. If it was just like the medicine or the emotions, but oh my gosh, I in the car ride was saw being saying goodbye to her. I love my mom so much. She's like one of my best Friends. So shout out again, Patti Abbott, you're the best. Yeah, Taylor's had some really great rants. I think the rant early in the season about the Oakland athletics come to mind, you know, he was upset about the Orioles at one point, but I think yours takes the lead, you know? Excellent range. Thank you so much. I thought, you know, we needed a little nice rent going into the weekend. A little positive. I would expect nothing less from you, Sarah. Well, they call my mom positive patty, so or P squared for short. So you know what? It works out perfectly. Exactly. So the first one is stewie 1969. He says, I'm with you guys on the anti taking stance. What could that look like? Possibly a salary floor where maybe your top three highest salary players can't represent more than a set percentage of the whole payroll to eliminate the signing of one 40 million man, or maybe the salary trenches and a floor where you have to employ a certain number of players within each trench. Best makes the assumption that with increasing salary comes increasing skills. Thoughts? Well, stewie, I think first off, I mean, we know this in the last round of labor negotiations. The player association made it very clear that they would not accept anything that had a salary ceiling and that's what the owners are attaching the salary of floor to. I think the first step toward eliminating tanking or reducing the incentive to tank has to come from the owners. Where they have to step forward and say, look, we're going to protect our product. We're going to protect our business and we're not going to allow owners to do that. And maybe a way of doing that is for the owners to set a basic minimum. Like now, based on our salaries are and where payrolls are and we're franchise values are, I think, an easy place to start a 75 million. This idea that you're going to have teams with a $40 million payroll is a joke. So at least get the owners can set some kind of a floor themselves by having a standard within that group. And also to put roles in place, essentially saying, look, if you lose a hundred games three years in a row, then your ownership is under review. Because you can't do that unless you're trying to do it, they should hold their peers to a higher standard. For the sake of the business that they all own. Next up is at PK Steinberg, triple dog there, you not to mention the a's for a long time. No. Never. He gave too late. We just did. Next up is Ethan James at the moment, Jacob Graham feels more like a luxury than a necessity for the rangers. Should they be cautious with him until games get more meaningful toward the ends of the season? Well, they should give him appropriate medical treatment, right? I mean, it definitely feels like at times people will question whether or not he's actually hurt. I'm sure that he's, you know, that he's injured in some capacity. I'm sure that he's got the feelings that he does, and I think they should just be cautious and get him back to a point where he feels right to pitch. That should be the standard rather than saving him for more meaningful games at the end of the season. And I look, if he's on the mound, he's the best pitcher in baseball. That's what we've seen. Even in the games when he's gotten hurt, you know, it's like four no hit innings and then he comes out. So, you know, you just hope he pitches many innings that I'm saying a hundred innings this year would be great considering the way the season started form. Next up is Jonathan at bat boy wannabe awesome at Jonathan. Hey buster enjoyed your peace breaking down the way this year's trade deadline is shaping up, wondered if you think Cody Bellinger is likely a trade candidate. He's off to a much better start this year batting .2 AA 7 homers and .89 OPS. Yeah, so I don't think so and I'll tell you why because these in the nationally central with the cubs and that division is so bad, it's so compromised that I can't seem to see the cubs being way out of it by the time we get to the trade deadline. And for an ownership, which has been under some criticism by the fan base for not spending, let's say that they are three games out of first place within a division by the time you get the trade deadline, you can't be sellers. You just can't. And they have so much payroll flexibility. The Chicago Cubs. So I think that he'll want him staying and I am curious to see if during the course of the year he's going to wind up having some conversations with the cubs because he seems really happy there. He seems really comfortable. He's played in a big market. He's turned his offense around. We'll see. I think he's represented by Scott Boris, which makes it unlikely that he would agree to a deal, but we have seen Scott Boris clients agree to contracts in the last year, at least a few of them. Guys like Stephen Strasburg. And our last one from the day comes from stewie 1969, as discussed on the Wednesday pod, the AL east continues to be the class of the league. This season more than ever with less infighting due to a bound schedule and the resurgence of the O's. I feel that we should only refer to it as AL beast from this point on. Okay, you know what? As long as all 5 teams are over 500, we'll call it the ALB. And right now what the Yankees are the team that, you know, probably the biggest threat to that. And that is all for bleacher tweets, be sure to submit bleacher tweets every week using hashtag bleacher tweets on Twitter. "To stand out more. All right, thanks for doing this. And we'll talk to you next week. All right, guys. Thanks. Bleacher tweets, already buster bleacher tweets for a Wednesday, Brad barber had B rad Barbara writes in is Justin Steele and ace. Yes, he is. Look, he's got a high, he actually reminds me of roberval Valdez at the Astros. This is someone with a high rate of ground balls and he strikes out some hitters as well. He currently leads the national league with a one one 90 RA, just two homers allowed in 30 innings and look, I know it's a small sample size, but I also remember David Ross, the first time I ever talked to him about Justin Steele, how he was fired up about the great stuff that he brings to the table. And by the way, it's the perfect team for him, having dansby Swanson, dansby Swanson, Nico Horner, behind him on defense. The cubs currently tied for 6 out of 30 teams in defensive run saves. They are excellent with the glove. Love that. Andrew desalvo writes in most teams are around 25 games into the season to GM scouts and analysts still consider this too early to say players have definitively improved or declined or is this enough of a sample size. I'm looking at you, Jared kell Nick. Yeah, it really depends on the player, right? I mean, if they see trends in a particular player, like you say kikuchi, early in spring training, you were hearing that he looked really good that he had changed the way he was using his fastball, you know, the Blue Jays folks talked about how he worked like crazy during the course of the winter time. Stayed in the United States rather than travel back to Japan because he just wanted to go to work. And so he's off to a good start. And I think there are a lot of people who probably aren't surprised. Jared Kellen, because of his struggles in recent years, prompted him to make adjustments. He definitely turned it around. Earlier in the podcast, I lampooned Yankees fans for their panic here, but Andrew Campbell at real camp drew. He makes a compelling case here. He says buster, as of Tuesday morning, the $279 million Yankees as a team have less base hits than the Oakland athletics, the Washington Nationals and the Cincinnati reds. Those three teams all have payrolls under a 100 million and are at least 7 games under 500 panic time and Yankee land. It's way too early to panic. But there are concerns. And the loss of Giancarlo's stand is a big, big deal. And they really need Harrison Bader as he comes back from the injured list to have an impact right away. Like they can't wait around, especially because I think, you know, when Aaron hicks not really providing anything, you need they're kind of in a weird place. They've got guys like volpe, who are very promising, but he's a rookie, so you don't know what to count on. They need veterans to step up and Bader. Bader's return, it feels important for the reasons you just laid out drew. I really love the Yankees commitment to Aaron hicks. That's just incredible to me. PK Steinberg. And what's the difference between the a's and royals at this point? Same record as of right now. Is it that the royals appear to be trying, but just stink anyway? Yeah, I think it matters that they appear to be trying. As opposed to the ace. I do think it matters. Look, I'm not going to criticize a team if they make a bunch of moves and they spend a bunch of money trying to get better because at least they're trying to win. What the a's are doing is I've said many a time. You wish the other owners would hold their fellow owners who designed tanking teams to step it up. And to put pressure on them, it's embarrassing how bad liaison last one for today, Ryan silsby at silsby Ryan writes and speaking of Mookie betts and the Dodgers shortstop problems. What is the history of outfielders turning into shortstop's long-term seems like Trey Turner made the switch recently how rare would it be for Mookie to switch to shortstop for good? Not for a player that stature. It's unprecedented. That does it for bleacher tweets, hashtag bleacher tweets. While you're watching games, we will be back on Friday. "Already buster bleacher tweets for Tuesday. I want to close the loop on Sarah's adventure to Taylor Swift concert. I have to ask. If you're on social media, I feel like you see a lot of chatter of this. The secret songs, what are they? What songs did she play? Why are they secret? Are they still a secret? Yes. Because are they? I feel like everyone knows. Okay, well, so how this works basically is she's got so many hits because she's the greatest of all time. So each show will get two secret songs and she doesn't repeat them. Unless she messes up. So it's an interesting thing. Our secret songs were my sister and I's favorite speak now so that was exciting for us and then another song called treacherous, which, you know, is about a breakup, which was fitting because it was the show after her breakup was announced. So it was, you know, it was a big show, big day. Wow, Sarah, real quick. If you had an opportunity to go to dinner with Taylor Swift, just you and her going to dinner or you had an opportunity to go to dinner with Miles Teller. Okay? I'm gonna make you choose which one would you choose? Oh my gosh. Great question buster. That's a great question. I would have to set, oh my gosh, okay, I'm hesitating because I physically don't know if I could be in the same room as Taylor Swift. I think I would pass out, but I'm gonna go Taylor Swift because I feel like I just have so many questions for her. Just so many. So I think I'm gonna pick Taylor Swift. But it's tough. It was really, really tough. Wow. Buster with some hard hitting journalism here on bleacher chats. Well, you know, I ask a lot of questions here. All right, let's go to the tweets. Eric Sorensen writes in love the interview with boch and dusty on Sunday Night are more seasoned managers more fun to cover than a younger manager can only imagine how great the stories are with those two guys. Oh, they're unbelievable. And the great thing about dusty and we were actually talking about this with Bruce bochy, who also has a lot of good stories, but dusty seems to have known everyone quite over in the last hundred years. So he could talk about Barack Obama, he could talk about Jimi Hendrix. He could talk about Hank Garrett. He I mean, he's got so many stories. And yeah, it's fun to sit down with the dusty, they both have one thing in common. They really both like people, which is why they've been successful. Nicholas rust at Nick rust 17 writes in last year, you my Luis arise as a bona FIDE Tony Gwynn two suggestion, cared or visor statement sirs, buster. What do you think about this? All right, Nicholas, here's the thing. I am admittedly biased because I covered Tony. I always, when I am asked about who's my favorite player, they got to cover. It's always Tony because he was a gift for me as a young reporter and how much he loved baseball and how great he was at it, how much he loved to talk about it. I'm going to give you Tony Gwynn's resume. Lifetime three 38 hitter, 8 batting titles, 5 gold gloves, 7 times finished the top ten in the NL MVP voting. 15 all star appearances, 5 seasons of 200 or more hits, he hit two 89 his first year Taylor, and he batted over 300 in every year. The next 19 seasons, okay? We survived a fine major leaguer, 26 years old, one batting title, one all star parents. You'll never want to go glove. I think even he would admit that. His career high and hit so far as one 73, his career OPS as of this morning is 7 97. Tony gwyn Guerrero OPS was 8 47 50 points higher and Nicholas, I understand your comparison is more stylistic. It's not about the total resume, but I will say at this moment, Luis arise for me has a long way to go before I consider him in the same sentence as Tony Gwynn. Taylor, you decide. Oh man, Nicholas, if you go at the king, you best not miss 'cause buster just laid it out there for you. So obviously it's Tony Gwynn, but Luis arrives, a joy to watch. Still, both things can be true. Yes, laurisa is a fine player, but that would be like comparing Taylor Swift, you know, Sarah Abbott would back me up on this. Does someone who's not Taylor Swift? Yes, Sarah. Exactly. There's no one who can compare. We're kidding. Nicholas, I get your comparison with the guy and arises a terrific hitter. Pat Johnston at the melting pad rates and hey buster, a friend brought up this question during a Phillies big win on Sunday. And I thought you might have to answer. Why do position players throw 60 mph when they come into pitch? Because they don't want to get hurt. You know, it does seem like from time to time. You know, we've seen position players go in and they try to air it out. It doesn't go well. Famously, it was Jose canseco came into pitch and blew out his elbow. So you don't want that, but I'm sure that they are told, look, just protect yourself, just throw strikes. PK Steinberg writes in in Sunday's game the pirates Brian Reynolds played left field center field left field right field left field. How many times has that been done? So pKa actually asked Sarah langs about this and she said that that's not information, a guy changing position to position a position that something that's necessarily laid out by Elias. But we did look into it, it's been done before. We've seen managers actually put pictures in the outfield and they'll move around because they'll try to position them where they don't think the ball is going to be hit. But there isn't actually a record according to what we heard from Sarah. Lewis addio rice, Lewis addio Weiss writes in how much longer do the upstart Diamondbacks stick with Madison Bumgarner among the 82 pitchers with at least 300 innings pitched since 2020, the commencement of his tenure there. Mad bum ranks 79th with a negative 0.2 pitcher war. Oof. Yeah, he needs a change of scenery and I'll say right now. I'm not ready to bet the family pharma, this particular note, but I am willing to say at some point, Madison Bumgarner will pitch for the Texas Rangers and his former manager Bruce bochy. Last one for today. Mike mosque at the mosque three writes in just say it sail is done. He's been a bust for Boston, Red Sox fans are done with him, trade him, DFA him, get him out of town and send bloom with them. Taylor has my rent. That's pretty good, Mike. And I actually, I had my training session for my dog yesterday and the dog trainer big Red Sox fan.

"I think it is small sample size early in the year. PK Steinberg up next, I get that weather is unpredictable, but preemptively canceling games is just dumb. What happened to good old ownership greed when they take tickets? Take your money and risk The Rain delay. I love PK, you know? I like it one owner's preemptively canceled games because they want better conditions for the fans and they don't want to have the fans sit and stand for two hours, three hours. There are some owners will do that. Probably Oakland. But not some of the more progressive owners. Zach bison at Zack beast in 22 writes in Logan, oh, hoppy leads American League catchers in OPS, home runs and RBIs with the angels really bench him when max Stassi returns. How about himbo with a rant about that trade for Brandon Marshall? He's not happy with that trade. I suspect that given the angels are trying to win this year, whoever's playing the best is going to play. Matthew Porto at 30 year old mulberry writes and I've been loving the forgotten fields, parks need to revive the medieval style towers and parapets, right? I can't believe these fell out of fashion. I for one would like to feel like I'm at a king's jousting tournament when I go to a ball game. I know Todd's been doing a great job with these. Hugh duh, at QW 5 one rates and give him the new pitch clock rules are umpires now compelled to honor a batter's request for time out whereas in the past they did not have to grant such a request. I guess they are. Can you imagine if you just had an empire, you know what? I'm not going to grant time. Sorry, you know, I know the hitters in theory is granted one time out per play to parents, but now I'm not going to do that. I think we'd see some more ejections. Last one for the week drew Benson at summer guy 8 one one rates and have you seen the pitch plot pitch clock affecting manager decisions on getting relievers warmed up in the bullpen. It seems like when a guy gets in trouble, there's a lot less time to get that reliever ready before the inning spirals out of control. A 100% the other day when we had the rangers on Sunday Night baseball Bruce bochy talked about that about how with the pitch clock. Everything speeds up a little bit for him and this is someone who probably will go down as being one of the best managers of bullpen's ever and he feels it. He feels what you're talking about there, drew. Already, that's it for bleacher tweets. Hashtag bleacher tweets on Twitter while you're watching games this weekend. Thanks for writing in everyone. "Already buster bleacher tweets for a Wednesday, Scott appleman writes in the Padres radio broadcast described many Machado's pitch clock violation strikeout as caught not looking if a backwards K means caught looking. What do we write for a pitch clock strikeout when keeping score? Yeah, how about the K pointing downward? Is that sound good? You got one facing forward. We've got one facing backward. How about downward? I think I heard on the Dodgers broadcast last night. They were saying circle the K what do you think about that? No, I circle every kid. Okay. Johnny at good to be alive 5 writes in hopefully not too late for opening weekend rover reactions, but do you feel there will be more emphasis on contact small ball overpower in the coming years with how effective the guardians quote unquote disgusting style of baseball is? Yeah, I don't think so because I think a lot of the big swings, that's coming from the players. I was having a conversation with longtime coach the other day, and he said to me, it really comes down to players getting paid. And a lot of them feel like they're best chance getting paid the most amount of money. You're hitting them all out of the ballpark. And hey buster, the guardians and a's had a really wild back and forth game last night and there were only 3000 people at the coliseum you could hear individual fans on the broadcast and yet another fabulous José Ramírez game wanted someone to know. Right, exactly. Yeah, we got the stagecoach arrived with news from the guardians in Oakland game the other day. You really hope the ballpark situation gets settled. Anson at mister Anson writes in holy moly did Austin Riley absolutely mash Monday night and he did on Tuesday night as well. Again, St. Louis is there another team that can maximize the long ball like the braves. I don't think so. Yeah, there is the Yankees who had more homers than the braves last year. Braves led the national league, the Yankees led the American League. Brad wolf at B wolf 17 has a great question. Which is harder to get back to after Sunday Night baseball. Vermont or Montana. So when I was living back east, I actually lived in Westchester county in New York. That was pretty easy. It definitely takes longer to get back to Montana, but let me tell you, I'm building up some serious airline miles. Oh, you were grinding on Monday, snowstorms abound. I mean, hopefully this won't be a problem. They're much longer, but PK Steinberg writes in question for buster and Sarah. If fans of Taylor Swift are called swifties, are we the fans of Taylor swank called schwing. Oh my God. The Taylor swank portion of the podcast Sarah, what do you say? I love that name. I think it's perfect. Thank you, Sarah. All right, PK, I appreciate it. Last one for today spends at Texas baseball fan rates and I must say that Taylor's rant last week was the best thing I've heard on the podcast in a while. It was refreshing and new and he consideration to making it a monthly regular edition. I would dub it the hashtag Taylor tantrum. Buster's shaking his head no way Jose. Well, I'm just kind of chuckling because like Joey Votto was on. Like future Hall of Famer was on recently. His talks about the rules I had text messages from people who worked with saying boy Joey Votto should be commissioner baseball, but Taylor's rant winning out in the eyes of Spence by would say, I like that idea. How about Friday be like your rant day? And if that's the case, if you're gonna give us a rant on Friday, what's a preview we can expect? Oh boy. I feel like I'm exhausted all my Orioles material, so I need to I need to dive a little bit deeper here. Targeting other ALA teams could be something I could get into, so we shall see. Okay. But I'm expecting a rant on Friday. All right, that's a lot of pressure. I'll be ready, buster. You can't let down the. You're shrinking. You have to keep them on the train. Yeah. And you've seen the movie network too, right, Taylor? Network? Yes. Social network? No, network. The famous wine. You know, I'm angry and I'm not gonna take it anymore. William Holden, you gotta find that because that's set you up perfectly. All right, well, that'll be our lead in, and when you're doing hashtag bleacher tweets while you're watching games, send me some rant ideas. And we'll go to the drawing board and figure something out. Thank you. I like that, you know? And at some point, Sarah, you're gonna have to sub in for Taylor and I wanna hear what a Sarah Abbott rant sounds like. 'cause I just can't imagine it. Can we do anything here? Can I have to be baseball? Could it just be my life? It's a baseball podcast. Let's go. That's right. I want you to generate some serious rant anger every week. Okay, okay. "Buster bleacher tweets for a Mundy Amy Chapman at Amy R Chapman writes in. How about an overreaction Monday edition, my husband is concerned that hinge, AJ Hinch may leave the tigers because they are terrible and that he might go to a better team any managers on the hot seat less than a week into the season. No, it's not like the year when George Steinbrenner fired yogi bear, I think 6 games into the year. I don't think anybody's on that hot seat, but I must say, seeing the Tiger scores pop up over the weekend, the same thought occurred to me like how long will AJ Hinch be willing to stay there. And I can't remember, I think he my guess is he probably got a 5 year contract four or 5 years and boy, they've got a long way to go. Jaw Tai Joe at jata Jo 87 writes in which overreaction from the opening weekend is closer to reality, the rays having the best pitching in baseball or the tigers having the worst offense in baseball. Okay, here's your best overreaction. I talked to Tim about the rangers. Like I'm kind of all in on the rangers. I don't have to be around that team. I love them. And I don't know if they're going to make the playoffs, but I think they're going to be a lot better for than anybody expected for team to one 68 games last year. Those uniforms were looking fresh last night too. Mike warden at warden Mike writes in is the ghost fork a splitter. Yes. All this whole thing, you know, we were talking the other day about the sweeper and you're like, come on. I mean, if you get an incremental shift in movement, all of a sudden, it's like this whole new pitch. I mean, can you imagine? It's funny, well, anyway, whatever. You're gonna get me on a tangent here. Steven schulman at pro Bono dude writes, and okay, let's move on from the 80s. I mean 70s baseball. Is there a worse trend in 2023 than fans? I'm watching Seattle right now. Chanting the pitch clock countdown, I do love the new pace, but this chanting is worse than the wave. Oh, that's a hot take. The wave stinks. You know what's worse? Is when home fans booed the number every time someone threw to first base when the visiting pitcher gave a half hearted pick off attempt. And so I'm fine. I'd rather have the pitch claw countdown. They would the booing of a toss to first base, which doesn't happen anymore. Andrew Campbell at real camp drew writes, and hey buster, I know these men have a very tough job, but I have personally watched about a dozen games so far to start the season and it just seems like home plate umpires have the biggest strike zones ever. Unilaterally unilaterally across the league could this potentially be intentional like trying to force more swings from batters and more actions to go along with the new rules. I'm going to have to watch more before I form an opinion on that. You know, I would say that I generally, as one I saw your question drove my thought was, you know what? He might be on to something. Not that the umpires would have this collective conversation. But the idea that early in the season, I've seen some wide strike zones. PK Steinberg writes in, it would figure and second game of the year that a team needed to use a new rules under the new rules they position player in the blowout, right? And that would be Josh Harrison, who I spoke to yesterday about that. This Phillies infielder rob Thompson told us before the game last night that he walked up to Josh and said, hey, have you pitched before? And Josh was like, yeah, I've done that before. And rob told us, I don't know if he was, you know, if that's actually the case, but when he said, yes, I was like, yeah, nope, fine. So I asked Josh about it last night. I said, hey, you got to pitch. And then it occurred to me. He's pitched like four other times in the big leagues. And he's got like a whole, you know, like a pitching page now, because he's been pitching so much. Wow, a real resume under his belt. Last one for today. Brett Davis at treehouse, right? And hey, buster, I've really been enjoying Taylor's passionate rants about the Orioles. Thanks, Brett. Maybe a new segment should be added called the revved up. What do you guys think? Buster, I thought you should know that. Restate has called me a vitriolic Orioles fan last night when we did the college game day podcast. Okay, we didn't really touch on the Orioles. No. When we talked with Tim, so I'm going to give you an opportunity to give us a review of what you saw over the weekend 20 7 runs. Is that right? Yeah. In three games. The offense looks great, but we knew the pitching could be a problem. We knew left field could be a problem, and they didn't really do anything to address those positions. So I think everything is somewhere in the middle of the offense isn't quite that good. The defense and the pitching not quite that bad. But Ryan McKenna, really, man. Dropping the ball. I mean, I don't really think he's all that great anyway. I'm kind of confused why he's still around and they're not bringing up some of the younger guys behind him, but oh well, oh well. I mean, you get what you pay for, right? Yep. I mean, they had tons of opportunities. And I heard names mentioned no over the weekend, Ross, stripling would have been a perfect guy for that team. You know, Sean mine, I would have been a perfect guy for that team. Oh, by the way, not super expensive, like ten, $12 million a year for a team that is spending nothing, it's really awful. Shawn and I would have been awesome. Yeah, that's part of the reason for depth is not only if someone goes down for an injury, but it's also to have safety nets built in. You know, they've got all these young pitchers that are trying to develop and they're promising and, you know, they'll come forward and he hopes so, but you know what? It's good to have a veteran guy a couple of veteran guys help stabilize the rotation. We'll save it for another minute. Yeah, it's so interesting too. You talk to folks with other teams. They say privately, the same things we've been saying. We're all over at buster. All right, hashtag bleacher tweets on Twitter. We will be back on what's the schedule this week? It's early. What are we doing? I think we're going to do Wednesday or Wednesday, Friday. Okay. We'll be back on Wednesday. Good, yeah. Sounds great, buster. All right, that's it for today. Taylor's special thanks to you for putting it together this rundown, why my computer? I think by the end of the day, I'll have a new computer. I hope anyway. And also thanks to Tim to Sarah to Sarah, have a great day, everybody. Thanks for listening. Stay safe.

"Bleacher tweets for a Wednesday Elizabeth Hart at E Hart tweet writes in so should we just cancel the 2023 World Series now because how could anything possibly top what happened tonight? It was pretty amazing. It was pretty cool. But Elizabeth, that's just the appetizer. Yeah. Now we get into the full season 6 months and a great postseason the year of Otani, all the conversation we're going to have about him. It's going to be a great year. I woke up this morning to a text message from my cousin who was like, oh, Taylor, if you want to know a Japan beat team USA, I was like, have you ever heard of Shohei Ohtani before you said, nope, this is the first time here, and I said, get ready man, you're gonna hear a lot more about him. He's a dude. No doubt about it. He's a doofus. Jeff gargantuan writes in after ohtani versus trout, can you give us your ranking of most dramatic game ending strikeouts? I think I still have Welch Welsh versus Jackson at one. You know? And that's near and dear to my heart because I was a Dodger fan. What a great moment that was. That was unbelievable where Reggie Jackson had hit three homers in the previous years World Series. They're in Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers are trying to take a tool lead and here comes young, hard throwing bob Welch to face mister October and just challenges him with fastball after fastball after fastball and he strikes him out to win the game. As a kid, it was a Dodger fan. I don't want to talk about what happened the rest of the World Series for the Dodgers. That to me was number one, and I think Otani versus trout beats it. There's no doubt about it because of the stage because of you're talking about the guy who right now is the best player in baseball, striking out the guys the second best player baseball. That's pretty cool. David at baseball fan 1918 writes in how many of the team Japan players will see in Major League Baseball. They look like they have several players that will be impact guys. Yeah, guys who are in their early 20s. Yeah, you would assume that, you know, one way or another, we're going to see most of them. Doors of the kitchen at that kitchen door rates and after watching some spring training games, I still, I was still pretty indifferent on the pitch clocks. Then after watching WBC games, I could really see the difference and actually like the rule change now. I don't know if other people were feeling the same. Taylor, what did you think? Absolutely. Oh my gosh, I mean, it's been apparent. Last night was the game I probably watched in full. I've seen a lot of the action, but yeah, it dragged last night and it was very noticeable. It was noticeable after seeing games, and I was referenced my son as being my one person focus group. And he texted me in the middle of the game, and this was, you know, I mean, a great players and it was a great moment, and there was a lot of excitement in the park, but he mentioned he goes, man, and this game is dragging a bit. And it was, it was about an hour longer than what you'd have with the pitch clock. You'd still, at the end of the game, you know, would have had trout versus ohtani, and it's just the means it would be one hour less. Yeah. How come basically the same? PK Steinberg writes in WC players are ramped up in terms of conditioning, but do you see any kind of adjustment period needed for them to adhere to the rule changes in the time left between the end of spring training and the real season? PK, no, I don't think so. And that's the concern that I've heard from managers from staffers around baseball. They really are excited to get their guys back in camp because they do feel like it's going to be an adjustment for these players to move along faster at a faster pace than that they've had in the WBC. Chris at Berg fan zero zero four writes in hay buster with Ivan prieto Gonzalez not returning to Cuba while the country be more hesitant to send a team in the future or have increased scrutiny on the players. I don't think they'll be hesitant to send a team, but in part because this has happened in the past. I mean, it felt like every time that team Cuba for the last 30 years has gone someplace, you'd hear about a player defecting. And getting away. And I do think it probably increases scrutiny. On individual players. And they will monitor the players. And if they feel like someone is thinking about leaving, then they won't take them overseas. That has happened repeatedly in the past. Joe Wilkins at August west 27 rates in an opening day tradition for me is to post Terence manned speech at the end of field of dreams, goosebumps every time. This field this game, it's a part of our past ray. It reminds me of all that was once good and it could be good again. Yeah, I had some folks texting me on Twitter saying, hey, what about Vince Scully's reading of that field of dream speech? James Earl Jones. He was unbelievable. If you get a choice between Vince Scully and James Earl Jones, that's pretty good. Yeah. Chris Whelan at CR wheel and writes and buster keeps referring to Jose Altuve as a surefire Hall of Famer, but Altuve cheated does the baseball writers of America association whatever BBW AA stands for view the sign stealing scandal significantly than PED use and if so, why? Hey, Chris, I'm just guessing I think that Altuve is going to be treated the way Roberto Alomar was in the first time he appeared on the ballot. He had had the spitting incident, with John hirschbeck, and a guy who was an all time great second baseman.

"Tweets already buster bleacher tweets for a Wednesday, Cory rue Kurt writes in as a reds fan, our great hope is that when a box is at Eli, dela Cruz, I'm guessing ally. Is the next tatis trout, et cetera how good is he and what's an MLB comparison for him? So I reached out to a long time evaluator Corey to get an opinion on this because I have not seen him play on a regular basis and what I got back was O'Neill Cruz of the pirates because of that great speed and power combo that dela Cruz has is an infielder. The comp that I saw when I looked at his minor league numbers, they reminded me a lot of someone used a reds fans remember in that Eric Davis. Now Eric Davis was an outfielder. He was infielder, but he was the guy, you know, 30, 30, that type of player. And that's probably the level of excitement. I think within baseball about what his potential is. He's going to be a great player. BK cubs fan writes in with the pitch clock do you foresee an increase in complete games this year, shorter games means less time and effort to get through 9 innings pitched. Yes, I do. I think we're going to see some games where it's just like this momentum where a starting pitcher is going to just get on a roll. And the hitters are going to be on the defensive. I think you're going to see it in day games after night games, where it's going to feel like the first three innings take about 20 minutes. And suddenly you're going to look up and the starting pitchers are only going to have 30 pitches. He's going to have a chance to have a complete game. PK Steinberg with a little bit of snark here. He writes in MLB got rid of pitchers throwing four balls for an intentional walk. Should they cease having players running the bases on over the fence home runs to speed up the game and all? I don't think PK likes the rule changes. This next question, Sarah Abbott needs to ask you buster 'cause she has some questions of her own. Go ahead, Sarah. Okay, so this question comes from Z at iron rooster FF. Tired of seeing players hit above the shoulders, make the ball easier to handle or allow us to key stuff thoughts. My question is, is sticky stuff just sunscreen rosid because is that really that big of a deal? Sticky stuff? Yes. Absolutely. It's a huge deal. And in fact, and I'm just this is total speculation on my part based on watching games. I'm seeing pictures illegally load up the ball in their hands in a way that I did not see a year ago. I'm seeing that constantly. And I don't know if, you know, Major League Baseball is like, look, you know, the pitch clock is the priority. That's what we're going to focus on. We're not going to worry about sticky stuff, but man, I'm seeing a lot of guys load up. And it does, and you can tell that Sarah by the spin rates. It's a big deal. And they can control the ball better, they're clearly or pictures that benefited from it. You know, in answering my answer to this question is two things. The bulk pitcher still say the balls are slick, which is mind boggling. We landed someone on the moon, 60 years ago, and we can't get a baseball for Major League Baseball. And the other thing, too, is that the way pitchers train at a young age, they don't get as many innings in the minor leagues. Their command is not as good in the focus is throw the ball as absolutely as hard as you can. And so I think mistakes are made in a way that maybe they didn't. One guy's throwing 89 or 90 mph. I don't think that those that pitchers have the kind of command they used to. Are you satisfied, Sarah? I am. My next question though, what specifically is sticky stuff? Is it sunscreen rosin or is it other spider tech? Spider tech. Right. Or some sort of homemade substance. We've read about pitchers using that as well. And they put it on their hands. And I'm telling you, I'm seeing a lot of it. And all you have to do is watch out pictures what they do with their pitching hand in between pitches. I've seen so many going to that spot below their gloved hand. And I've asked questions about it and I'm curious to see if at some point Major League Baseball says, look, we got to crack down on this. All right, Sarah, pulling some nuggets out of your buster. I'm producing right there. Let's go to Don Irvine, Don writes, and I'm going to a ten spring training for the first time in my life with my adult son. It's only taken me a little over 50 years of baseball fandom for this to happen. What cactus league games team stadiums should we see between March 20th and 23rd without looking at the calendar buster? What are your favorite places to catch a game in the cactus league? Yeah, Arizona Diamondbacks home park is great, but I actually think it's hard to find a bad spring training site in Arizona. I mean, it's really easy to get around, there's no more than an hour drive separating all the ballparks. And a lot of them are relatively new and really nice. They built the complex and Peoria for the Padres and Mariners in my last year covering the Padres. I love that place. Sarah Gillespie at a typical faith rates and dear bleacher tweeters, bleacher tweets, I feel worried that the pitch clock is taking the poetry at a baseball, does everything in our culture have to be optimized and efficient. Aren't we losing something intrinsically good about the game? Yes, Sarah, I wish this could happen without the clock, but this is the result of 40 years of players slowing down in between pitches. Pitchers slowing down in between pitches. If you go back and watch a replay of a game from the 1970s, it just goes faster because the pitchers get on the mound and hit her step back in the box. That, that's at the root of all this, and if those little habits, you know, you know, I had players say to me through the years, well, that's how I get ready for a pitch. That's how I get ready for my plate of parents. If that sort of culture hadn't developed, we wouldn't be in this spot. And I would say this in all those years where you didn't have a pitch clock for 70, 80 years you had great moments, right? You had the poetry and baseball and the players are moving faster.

"Hangs out there will ownership support that moving forward. I mean, the reds ownership could be like the Orioles where they're more focused on bringing Bruce Springsteen to Camden yards. So that could be wow. I put it on a T and you club it. Thank you. Thank you. All right, to close out bleacher tweets, we had robust feedback on the rev conversation, Sarah Gillespie prompted the whole discussion. She writes in, okay, buster, I hear your response to my bleacher tweet, we can keep calling the rev. If he discusses his theology of baseball, if not, bring me on the podcast and I'll give you the highlights of my baseball sermon, I used to be to happen at some point. Yeah, yeah, we'll get Sarah on to explain her to give her sermon, but I used to be like a Christmas Easter baseball guy, and then we started doing the podcast. And now I'm a little more regular. And you can go into the church of baseball. What the Orioles and doing the podcast. So was that a good analogy for you? There you go. I like it. The fo crack writes in guys, I've been a reverend for over 17 years while it may be used more limitedly by some. It's simply means someone has gone through the ordination process and currently the faux crack works at a bank still a reverend. So thanks for the support there. There you go. Dave crawley, since someone said, get rid of the rev, how about the minister as in the minister of podcasts? Oh, lots of governments use minister for departments such as minister of defense, et cetera. I like that one as well. Yeah, Sarah, Sarah Gillespie, sent us a note, tell us how you feel about that. Is that a good compromise? Last one, PK Steinberg, pitmaster T hanging out the smokehouse, could be less controversial than the nickname rotation, the reverend at the pulpit. What do you think about that? Self proclaimed nickname buster. You got more for the minister, PK than I would for that. What do you think? Although Kelly, you love the pitmaster, you'd love to send out pictures of yourself cooking. Yes, it's true. Buster, we're gonna do a podcast at the house this season and we're gonna smoke some meat for you. It'll be delight. We'll have someone come over to for as a guest. So don't worry, man. I'm gonna feed you one of these days. Well, maybe we'll do that when you're at come out and visit in Montana. You know what I mean? Yeah, sure. Go out and grill them Montana. We'll get some, who knows? Maybe some buffalo? You want that? Milk. Yeah, some buffalo burgers. That would be yummy. All right, hashtag bleacher tweets on Twitter, thanks everyone. That's it for today, I might thanks to Sarah Ravi, Sarah Taylor, Brian snicker, Alex Cora, Dave dombrowski, have a great day, everybody. Thanks for listening. Stay safe. And remember, hating inequality based on skin color is something we need to fight against every single day.

"About Alex verdugo and also trying to get his players going in the face of a lot of negativism from the Red Sox fan base. We expect that at Chris sale. In 2023. I expect him to get on the mound Saturday. That's the way I'm talking this. We talk about his situation a few weeks ago and so far so good. You know, he throw open yesterday today he felt great. We're going to attack the next bullpen the way we were supposed to and we'll take it there by day, but everything looks great. You know, you talk to him and he's excited about the opportunity to go out there and compete finally healthy since 2018 to be honest with you. He impacts those two guys. We talk about it yesterday in our meeting. You know, it's been a while. We haven't seen this to left. He's on the mound. So so far, so good. And like I said, I'm not going to get ahead of myself. I'd done that the last two years and something happens, right? Broken pinky, you know, right in the bike, whatever, and we've just been patient, but he's been good at mental, he's been great. How do you handle when you have the departure of a long-standing player like Xander bogarts? How do you handle that with your players? Well, to be honest with you, we have to turn a page. That is the most important thing, and we love bogarts and Vasquez and Rodriguez and Martinez and bets, you know, I don't call them by the first name anymore. You know, they're playing for another team. I just joking, but that's the way we have to approach it. And we appreciate everything they've done. They did for us throughout the years, but if you go to a Clubhouse now, you know, you got JT, you gotta add them, you know? You got key kept playing new position. You got Rafi. We just signed a huge contract again. If you ask one of those guys, they can care less about what happened last year. Or what happened two years ago or in 18, you know, as organization, we have to turn the page. We wish in the best, you know? That's when they play the Red Sox, but there's a new team. There's a lot of new guys in this roster. We only had three guys left from 2018 and three coaches too. So we got to talk 2023 the right way. We come from a disappointing season. We know we play in the best division baseball. We have a lot of work to do, but our goal is to get better and see where you take us. You challenge Alex verdugo with the NLS season and it looks like he answered the challenge with how he looks early in camp which you see in ham and your converse about your conversations with him. Yeah, I mean, it's one of those that fiber 6 years ago when people talk about this kid, right? It was a 5 tool player. He's going to impact the game on both sides of the field and it was good for the Red Sox 21 who was solid for us. Last year, you know, just, I don't want to say he struggled, but he didn't play up to his potential. And he recognized that, you know, he played a little bit banged up. He posted, which is very important, but I think physically he's in a much better place. We're going to challenge him to play fast. One of the things that people haven't talked too much about is like the player right field is going to it's going to be important now. You know, without the shift, there's not a guy in that hole, you know, is about to old school baseball ride man at first. Left handed hitter should the hole in the right field has to make plays. And he understands that. I'm excited for him that he's going to the tournament and play from Mexico. I think it's going to put him in a good spot and he's up to the challenge. You know, like I said, yesterday bucks number one. He was checked, you know? And now we just got to keep continue to get better, continue to work the way he's been doing. And I believe he's going to have a solid year. You've been in Boston a long time. And you know how the narrative goes. You guys drew a lot of criticism during the course of the winter time. How do you handle that with your players? I think if you go to a locker, you talk about JT and yoshida and verdugo and better shape. Adam Duvall was his champion kika Hernandez was here's champion. Kenley Jensen, you know, Corey Kluber, tusayan. So for everything everybody's talking about, hey, man, I get it. You know, we were horrible last year, so I don't blame you guys to think that we're not a good team, but we do have a good group. We have a good baseball team. We just got to keep working and get better. Thanks, Alex. No problem. Thank you brother. Good to see you. Bleacher tweets already buster bleacher tweets for a Thursday. At BioTech teacher rates and buster with all the talk regarding pace and play and the pitch clock. Any discussion about reducing length of commercial breaks, I'm sure it's all about revenue, but there must be other ways to have ads that don't require in terminal break in the action. Now, Peter, that's part of the, as you noted, it's part of how, you know, Major League Baseball, how players get their money. And they're not going to reduce that. They're just not. It's always comes up when we talk about pay to play and reducing commercials. That's how you pay the bills. And with your broadcast partners and they're just not going to do that. Mark wooster writes in Don Mattingly had several nicknames, including Donny baseball, but he said cap was his favorite being captain of the Yankees does mean something big to the players. You know buster, we talked about this. We kind of mocked it, but I did kind of appreciate Aaron judge stepping up and being like, I'll play in left field, you know? Like, I'll do whatever. That was a captain Y kind of move from him. And he would have done it before he got named captain. If they never named him captain, he would have done that. All right, Lee Kemp at Lee camp zero 5 one one rates and I recently read a great and glorious game baseball writings of a Bartlett giamatti and enjoy giamatti's thoughts on baseball and its fit as America's pastime if still living. What might giamatti think of the world baseball classic in baseball's growing international appeal? Anything that would expand baseball as in an international way, I think Bartlett bar giamatti would have absolutely loved it. The bar G Madi was a pure baseball fan. Gabe at GP zero 6 one one 9 rights and I understand the backlash from fans for trades with division. But if you were waving the white flag anyway, wouldn't it make sense to do it at the expense of your future rivals? Wouldn't Mookie to the raise, make more sense in the long term for Boston. You're thinking reflects that of modern front offices. Remember Billy bean was one of the first that I've heard say that. Like, who cares about trading in the division? Yes, as long as you're making yourself better, that's the priority. And sure you take in prospects away, you know, from a potential rival in making a deal in the division. And I think most front offices feel that way, I will say it's the owners a lot of times that will step in and say, for example, to the mets or to the Yankees, hey, don't deal with it with our city rival. The angels and for example, if the angels trade Shohei Ohtani this year during the course of the season, I think we can pretty much safely assume he ain't going to be traded the Dodgers. PK Steinberg writes in when Harper comes back and is cleared to play in the outfield who is the Philly center Fielder, it feels like they have both too many outfielders and yet also not enough. Brandon marsh, I think he's been working on his, you know, hitting his left handed pitching so he can play more and center. Alex darker writes in hey buster, it seems like the reds have been trying to replicate the raised model. They traded away key players with two years of control left and put emphasis on pitching development. How would you grade the reds progress so far? How can they do better? I say an a minus. Yeah, I don't know if I'm willing to give a grade that high because we haven't really seen the impact as much in the big leagues, but I will say when I talk to folks with other teams, they feel like the reds are putting themselves in position to progress. I guess the question Taylor is, you know, will they the red's ownership, they're in a position to potentially take a move forward? Will they spend more? It's the same question we're seeing with the Orioles. The Orioles clearly took a huge step forward last year development of their best young players, but the question
