"A tough day for Pittsburgh Steelers, Hall of Fame running back Franco Harris passed away overnight at age 72. His son DACA confirmed that the news to the AP this morning and no cause of death given, but really the timing sort of ironic in the sense that the team is set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the immaculate reception this weekend while also retiring his number 32. The immaculate reception may be the most famous play in football history where he caught an improbable past reigning it in for a touchdown that sort of kick started what became the dynasty that the Pittsburgh Steelers established in the 1970s. I've heard all over the state from Scranton and all the way up in the northern northeastern corner down to Philadelphia. All the way over to Pittsburgh and up to Erie, and I encourage everyone to go and vote for David McCormick for the United States Senate. I also think Lou Bart, let barletta is a much easier to elect candidate. I don't think mister mastriano can win. I know David McCormick can win. I don't think any of the other people can win if you're going to vote for Kathy. Barnett, or Doctor Oz, I think you were throwing your vote away because they can't beat John fetterman. And this election matters so much because if McCormick doesn't get the nomination, we're going to have a very hard time getting the Senate back. In Republican hands and then confirmation of Supreme Court Justices will remain in Chuck Schumer's hands. The opportunity to break the filibuster will remain in Chuck Schumer's hand. It's vitally important to elect David McCormick. The bronze star recipient graduate of West Point grew up outside of Pittsburgh. He built business in Pittsburgh, built jobs in Pittsburgh. He's a Pittsburgh. And so this goes against migraine to say nice things about a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. I mean, steelers forever with McCormick, but Dave McCormick's a great American and when you're a West Point graduate and you receive the bronze star for valor in the 82nd airborne in the first Gulf War, you can trust the character.

"NFL is now requiring every team to have a minority coach in a key offensive role. According to the NFL, turns out that recently the head coaches in the NFL have come from the offensive side of the ball and there is in the view of the NFL and insufficient number of minorities occupying these kinds of positions. Aside from the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, there is one other black coach, his name is lovey Smith, Texans just hired him. And the dolphins hired a man named Mike mcdaniel, who is biracial, one of his parents, it's white, one of his parents is black. And the NFL has now an equity measure to require each team to have a minority assistant coach. In a significant role on its offensive staff.

Giants apparently can't draft their own edge. Rusher so they're just like hey whoever's the fifth best rusher on the steelers they've got to be better than someone we have like. They just always that do they like they grabbed skipper. And now they're taking quincy rochet. So that's my one thought is at least the new york. Giants think highly of how we draft in developed edge. Rushers which honestly if you look at the success we've had. It's not a bad thing. We know how to get him. We always have good edge rushers. Steelers news player. I've liked carl. Carl joseph is coming out of college. He's he's not quite the player he's had some injuries but getting him to the practice squad get him for like you know nothing claiming him claiming off waivers even just signed him like a cheap deal. This is kind of a thing. And i i like the signing. I like the you know giving a guy with that kind of pedigree that kind of experience in the nfl because he was a good player when he was healthy. I like it. I like bringing them on board in this in any way affects the status of terrell edmonds. Could he pushed him for his spot. I don't think so. No if you look up what karl. Joseph is like even last year. He he can't. He's not a coverage guy like he was not a coverage guy when he came into the league his injuries of made him significantly less of coverage guy. Marcus allen has played in the slot he's listed as a linebacker and traynor norwood who is listed as a safety so it's three safeties and linebackers Which i find interesting because the steelers are always grabbing these kind of hybrid players and using them. Safeties guys like a make. Patrick where people are like is this guy. Linebacker is he. Is he a cornerback. Like what is like these guys that can play all those positions but don't really fit one perfectly. The steelers love collecting them. We've got a whole slew of them and they're trying them at the nickel spot. So i'm going to be very interesting to see if they do sign someone you know. What type of player they sign. But i'm also interested if they're unable to upgrade the position at all and how they will play the dime role. You know the the nickel slot because it's clear to me for what they were doing. Preseason they are really still looking for that kind of safety who can play in in the nickel or dine. Defenses and inside corner yahoo just the way this roster is being constructed. I would also assume that a body is coming in. I believe Jimmy moreland was one of the names that are floating out there. played for the washington football team last year. I've pretty solved player. He was cut on the injury designation. But it's still expected to play in week. One be healthy enough to play for week one. So if there's a name to watch. I feel like that's the one i throw out there. If the steelers weren't able to swing a trade which at this point seems a little less likely although the steelers still have a ton of cap space that something we have to keep in the back of our minds are kind of stepping away from the more positive news of course but staying in secondary. "The steelers second team players. If you think about it like the eagles defensive line they want series. That's what they got. The the eagles offense like with their with their young quarterback jalen hurts. He had two series Things like that so the steelers even had their. They're more starting caliber players out there a little bit longer but it was in that first half and that's where the steelers were not well. Let's just say they didn't win the game in the first half so that's something this week i would like to see. I wanna see the steelers win the first half hour him. Go out there with with the players that are going to be out there. Their best offense their best defense. I don't wanna see when the first half. I wanna see it when the first quarter. I don't know how many of these players are gonna play beyond the first. I'd like to see him get a little bit. I just don't know but let's see the steelers get going early. I talked about this with my brother on the scarborough show that. How much time is ben. Rothlisberger gonna play. And i think it's more about the number snaps than it is the number series. Because if he if he has a fifteen play series in the first quarter and goes down scores touchdown that might be it because the number snaps if they have you know a three out that another drive that after one first down stalls you might seem out there for a third series just to get the number of place. I'm hoping it's less series. I really am. Because i want to see the steelers. Do well in those series. I want to see the steelers win. The first half the i am fine with them winning the second half because what that's showing is some of these things that we were concerned about. The steelers might have more depth than what we realized it could like. Is it that their depth. That good is it that the these players have been coached up better things like that. Who cares i mean. Williams's old melvin. Ingram sold well. Guess what the the only guys that are over thirty. That are fulltime. Starters of those names are listed. Joe haden cam hayward cam hayward is arguably the second best defensive lineman in the nfl. Joe haden has not lost a step. The other guys are either primary backups. Or i guess in vince williams case a fringe starter. So the some of these. These people are just trying to get some sort of a rise. I think steelers nation tour trying to make people believe that. This team isn't good when in reality they are. It's one of those kind of things. You gotta just shake your head. 'cause the pittsburgh steelers by all means if everything clicks. There's no reason why they can't be competing for championship this year. And there's people that will laugh at that statement but then come january. There's a pretty good shot. Yes the steeler season it tailed off and cooled off bay area very very quickly but that I would not put that solely on the shoulders of ben roethlisberger and more specifically the surgically repaired elbow of benner burger. People that want to say ben is cooked. I don't know how many cooked quarterbacks five hundred yards and four touchdowns in the playoffs suri through four picks in that game And like there's no excuse for that but that's just a ben rothlisberger football game. He he makes plays sometimes. That are just the wrong play but has so much arm talent that more often than not he pulls it off but when he's not on the interception numbers go up and that's why you see about once a year. A game were ben roethlisberger. Iraq's a ton of picks he's just not dialed up. But in the meantime that same game he went over five hundred yards in four touchdown passes. That is not so when you can just say. Oh yeah he's done. Yeah no there's nothing there. Because ben roth for prove he can do it and he did in the playoffs and as well as during that steelers slump. Were they lost. What four their last five games. Ben still made a couple of pretty nice throws all over the field. I would not be writing this guy off right now especially with all these reports that he is more motivated than ever. He's reading these reports. And apparently his diet is stricter than that. So really it is a beautiful day. The steelers defense got better and this team took a step in the right direction. I am thrilled. I am happy and who knows. Maybe there's some more moves to be made before we get to week one but anyway getting to the real topic of today's show the pittsburgh steelers being the most over hated team in the nfl. It's it's one of those things that have been recurring all off season long Just just the voices from the national media even the local media you you hear this day in day out. The pittsburgh steelers our team that sh- supposedly is one. That's about to fall off a cliff but some who covers this team on a pretty regular basis. Daily articles Couple podcasts a week. Someone who's reading all the rumors learning about these players seeing how everyone's health is doing. It doesn't really seem like this is a team that is about to fall off a cliff. This is a team. That's built to win here now and trying to take home a championship in the twilight of the ben rothlisberger era but still it is this constant bashing from the pf fs of the world or really you just name it any sports talk show. The last couple months is basically just been writing off the pittsburgh steelers some non factor and that just is not fair. This is a team that looks to be in great shape heading into the twenty twenty one season the fact that all these outlets are trying to put a pin on pin in. The steelers is pretty interesting to me. Because i think it goes beyond just a that kind of content. Kind of getting getting your cliques. Getting those numbers up. Of course you put the steelers anything especially negative and it's like throwing gasoline on a fire. Those numbers are going to take off. But i genuinely think a lot of these. A lot of these national media types want to just say the pittsburgh steelers are bad team. And i am not seeing it i am truthfully someone who can look at a picture without any rose colored all in this case black and gold tinted glasses on. If i look at as just a by standard looking at this team i still think there are really solid football team especially if they stay healthy but for whatever reason people want to say. This is a bad football team and i really just just makes me laugh in all honesty because it just does not stop at all. It's just been the constant bashing this entire offseason and most of it has been directed towards ben rothlisberger and the offensive line starting with the offensive line though for as much criticism as that unit gets the steelers completely revamped that unit gone or marquees penalty dave decastro and alejandro villanueva. The old guard is no longer there. The steelers completely retooled the unit yet. People want to bash this team saying that. It's gone worse. how can you say that one. This is a brand new squad rolling out on the field. Left tackles a brand new guy in two weeks before he was a right tackle before left. Guard is kevin dotson who steals viewed as a backup all of last season despite being the best guy in the field when he was in the line of due to injury issues. It's matt filer and others at center kindergarten green. I guess is probably the biggest question mark but he is an athletic stuff and someone that you take over the job probably in training camp then it right guard trae turner who i if he's healthy like he's claiming he is will be a significant upgrade on injured david castro who all likelihood probably doesn't even play in twenty twenty one at all and it's probably mulling retirement for my if we can take all reports at face value and then at right tackle zach banner who looked pretty good in a half of football last year before he tours. Acl this is a brand new offensive. Line trash it as much as you want but saying it's gotten worse or whatever from last year that simply isn't fair because they've completely retooled his group are. They're these big time flashing names. Not yet i think kevin dotson could kind of develop into that if trae turner is as good as he was before a in. La yeah he could be an absolute stud to and again. We don't know what kendrick green is. The tackles are all right. I'm not saying they're the worst tackle tandem in the nfl. Though that's that's the last thing i'm gonna do but yet again the over hated pittsburgh steelers offensive line is getting buried and we haven't seen them play. It is not a fair thing for so many of these outlets to continuously be doing is just tearing them down saying how bad it's going to be. Yeah there's a ton of question marks. I agree with you. There's a ton of question marks. But right now i think it's fairly simple to look that unit be like well on paper with a new scheme new offense aggressive mindset and aggressive blockers at the very least they should be a good team running the football because those guys get after it in the run game. They're downhill guys that you're gonna push around. Perhaps ben might have to take a couple more hits this year but even in that case. We do not know how they're going to work. As a cohesive passing unit yet and to say this is the worst offense align and football which in some rankings that have been coming out the last couple of weeks is exactly where the steelers relying ranks really is not fair. I think this unit has a very very good chance of being improved from what it was last year but continuously the steelers are being slagged. I think that unit will definitely prove people. Wrong and they'll be something exciting to watch especially. Rg harris who i guess would be the The flagbearer when it comes to success of the offensive line if he goes off and hasn't outstanding rookie season as a running back. I think that's a huge testament to the offensive line as well as the talent of najji harris but so many people want to say. Oh he's just going to struggle. 'cause the offense line socks if he doesn't and there you go you can just point to those numbers and and it's one of those things you can kind of look out for to kind of gauge some of the success success of the offensive line as well as the sack numbers have been rothlisberger and how long he's able to hang out in the pocket which could be better brand new scheme brand new coach brand new guys on the offense line. Slagging them really. I think we're getting a little too carried away with that And it could bite some people in the rear end and get them featured on old takes exposed for having a prematurely bad football takes all sports takes in general but That's something i think.
