Chicago White Sox Lose To Pittsburgh Pirates With Error In The 9th
"Sox played a bit of blooper ball, losing the lowly Pittsburgh five for blowing a four to a thinning advantage. And slumping off the field on a walkoff error of all things in the bottom of the ninth. Yasmani Grandal allows the Pirates game when he run to score, dropping an underhand toss from the pitcher trying to force out at home. Nick Magical also ran and out two outs on the base paths and Tim Anderson was picked off socks. Still in a tie for first

"pittsburgh pirates" Discussed on ESPN Chicago 1000 - WMVP
"1000 in the ESPN Chicago app. I'm black, along with Adam Abdullah. The Cubs and the Pirates are about to start in Pittsburgh, Jon Lester on the mound for the Chicago Cubs. He's too and one with a 4.55. The Chicago Cubs get Kris Bryant back into the line up before we get to the White Sox. Cubs in pirates set, Teo get going in Pittsburgh in just moments. Yeah, here eyes. What's going on with Jon Lester? He hasn't gotten a win in his last three starts. You know, August 16th was our August 11th was his last win. But August 16th six innings, nine hits, five earned runs, five strikeouts than against the White Sox. We all know what happened there, three and two thirds of an inning, nine hits. Eight earned runs. He gave up four home runs in that game, and then his last game August 26th. It was a loss against the Tigers, in which he pitched five innings, gave up eight hits, one earned run, struck out five and walked one. So it is well do time for Jon Lester to write himself and hopefully that takes place. Against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who are 10 and 22. So you would think that you know if you're going to get right against the team, you're going to get right against the team That only won 10 games so far. This season s So when you look at Jon Lester on the mound against the Pirates tonight, if you're a cup, fanning you look at this rotation. I get it. The name's air there, right. Hendricks, Lester. Yu Darvish is really the on ly pitcher pitching really well for this team right now. So, Adam, you make a great point that Lester needs to get back and it needs to get right because if you look at what Cal Hendricks has done in his last three starts Just three losses as well, and he's giving up runs. And he's not pitching to the to the point where if the Cubs were hanging to the playoffs, which I know they are not right now, but it's not far off and therefore WASI Hendricks. She wants you, Lester start to get on the right track. So you have those three arms going well together, and you hope that you Darvish continues to pitch the way he has. He's basically shown us now for the better part of a year from the end of last year into this season. Here in the first half of this 60 game schedule that Yu Darvish is a top level pitcher, But now we need Jon Lester. Now we need Cal Hendricks to kind of join him with that. If this team wants to do something in the plough, looking this way, the Pirates are garbage right there. They're 27th in baseball and average and they're dead, last in on base percentage. Like this should be a team where there should be a night Where Jon Lester Kingo seven innings give up, you know, maybe one run and is the night to where the offense should be able to continue off their last win against Detroit, where they put up 10 runs in like everybody had two home runs like everybody on the entire lineup, had two home runs, I think, and so every single person all this is where you know, like we talked about it a lot. In this first half of the season. Right Where the Cubs? Yeah, they haven't played anybody because they're division is just bad there. Three half games out of first place are in out of first place, but in first place they've a three game lead. Ultimately, you're just you haven't been playing well in your last 15 16 17 games. You had the big win against Detroit to end the series. You were off yesterday. So you would need to build on that. Momenta MME. The Cubs are very streaky. Can they start a winning streak off of that win against the Tigers? And does it start with their veteran ace? Jon Lester Tonight. Lester faced Pittsburgh Once already this year, he pitched six innings. Hey, give a four hits. One run one homerun. One walk. Four strikeouts did not get a decision in that contest. So the second time around against the Pirates lineup which Adam? You're right. The Pirates are no good. They are one of the worst teams. In all of baseball, So we'll keep our eyes on the Cubs and the Pirates as we go along here on the baseball show blocking up doll with you tonight, here on ESPN 1000 the other story in town, the Chicago White Sox. They beat the Twins last night. 8 to 5. They're in first place now by a game over the Cleveland Indians. They're in first place by 2.5 games over the Minnesota Twins. Tonight, doused cycle goes to the mound for the White Sox. He's looking for his third straight victory. And also if we take a look back to last night, Louis Robert He has the home run in the seventh and then the R B I double in the ninth Fantastic comeback for the Sox last night. And really, this offense continues to just produce at a very high level, thus giving the socks a chance to win in every ball game. Yeah, I think that you know, you look at yesterday's game and the air out in right field that led to them being able to come back. They had a few heirs of their own. But that's When everything is clicking for a team and I know that you know, White Sox fans don't want to hear it, but comparing them to the Cubs. When they went on their run in 15 and 16. Everything was going their way. You would have three heirs in a game like you did for the White Sox. And you still find a way to win that game because you take advantage of the other team's mistakes. You know, when there was the air in the outfield, you saw the White Sox be able to put it on. You saw not. You didn't get a quick hook from Ah, Lucas Giolito. He was out there for the rest of the game battle, So Yeah, exactly. So this is a team. That you know they're not normally out of it. Jason Benetti was on earlier today and said, that's a game that normally the White Sox just pack it in and lose in previous years. You go down for nothing to a team that's ahead of you in the division. You're just done. If you're the White Sox of before this team's different now, this team's got a high powered offense. They've got the best offense in baseball. They've got their ace on the mound and Lucas Giolito. You knew that game wasn't over. You knew that they were going to be able to find a way to come back and Bell and that's how the Cubs were before how they just battle back. Everything is going well for this team. Right now, and it just seems like everything is falling to place for a long postseason run. Hopefully so the White Sox in the Twins at 7 10 tonight, a target field and that's where we start with our first pitch. The first pitch, a ball throwing out the.
Reds, Pirates games postponed as Cincinnati player tests positive for COVID-19
"This is sports talk later for Lance Encounters for 700 wlw. By the way. Hope you had a great weekend. As of right now, we are expecting the Reds to take on the Kansas City Royals tomorrow night. In Kansas City. That'll be an 805 1st pitch. We go on the air, with the Arnell carriers inside pitch at 705 Luis Castillo is said to get the ball against Brad Keller. Trevor Bauer is now scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, followed up by Sonny Gray. In the first game of a four game series against the Cardinals in ST Louis on Thursday, this after the weekend that was lost after Friday night raids beat the Pittsburgh Pirates and then a couple of hours after the game. We find out that a player tested positive. For covert 19. Saturday's game postponed Sunday's game postponed Ah, couple of things worth pointing out here. Seafront Rosecrans, who, by the way, covers the Reds for the athletic And doesn't awesome job. I've tweeted out a link to a piece that I think will guide you through everything happening with this team right now. But since Saturday, every Reds player has tested at least three times. The players were tested. Saturday, Sunday morning and this morning. Pittsburgh Pirates. Players were also tested in Cincinnati before they flew to Pittsburgh last night. Um As of now. Based on reporting from a couple of it from people who are close to this. There's only been one positive test on the Reds, and it was the player who found out that he was testing positive work over 19 on Friday night. That player has since tested positive again. But as of now and again, there's the latest round of testing results that they have to get. No other Reds player has tested positive. The Reds have yet to fly to Kansas City. They are supposed to fly to Casey tomorrow if they're cleared to play. The player who tested positive would have to be placed on the injured list. Somebody's going to have to be brought up to take his place. The The Pirates will be here in mid September, September 14th to the 16th so there is ample time to make up. Two games They missed right now. The Reds have 40 games remaining. There are 41 days between now and September, the 27th which is the end of the regular season, and so obviously they're not playing today They're going to play 40 games and 40 days to get to 60. They already have a double header scheduled Against the Cubs next weekend. But there is not only a Pittsburgh trip to Cincinnati, but the Reds also going PNC Park and so you can make up one of the games there if you have to. But as of now, The plan is to play. Tomorrow night against the Royals. Again. All of this is very, very fluid. As we've seen with the Cardinals as we've seen with the Miami Marlins, the good news is again. After the one player tested positive with that result being released. On Friday. Reportedly. No other Reds player has subsequently tested positive and also know Pittsburgh Pirates player As of right now 6 26 on Monday night, no other Pirates player Has tested positive. So there you go, Uh 513749 7800 The big £1.700 free call AT and T. Jerry is calling from Claremont County. Hi, Jerry. Jerry. Hope something happens. Jerry. Your wine? Yeah, sure. Go. Oh, well. A little question here if one Holding him and nobody there. Miles is okay. But they prayed about because they have to get tests back from the other players to ensure that there not also testing positive. Woman get their pink. Ooh, they did that. And so there are awaiting the latest the Siri's of results and they hope to play tomorrow. The Pirates also hope to play tomorrow. Yeah, this time, noting the Reds go to Kansas City before they do that they need to get to clear And for that to happen, they want to ensure there is no other players testing positive. Your city's okay. Well, yeah. I mean, the players are routinely testing positive testing, which is why we found out that a player tested positive on Friday night. Yes. Okay. Okay. Is that all right with you? Yeah. No. There was just a bad weekend without baseball. Yeah, Wass, I I don't I can't disagree with that. Ana would do anything about it. I wanna thank you very much. Thank you. Ok, thanks. Have a good evening. You you you do the same. The Miami Marlins. You may recall after the first weekend of the year they were in Philadelphia, and then again, they had a game scheduled against the Phillies. And on Sunday morning. They found out that a number of players on that team had tested positive for Cove in 19 And instead of baseball, swooping in and stopping the Marlins from playing. Instead, the players were allowed to vote. Whether or not they play now, I'm not sure why that would ever be the case. But that's that was the plan. That was the plan baseball let the Miami Marlins players vote via text by the way. On whether or not they want to play. They did play the game that day in Philadelphia, and then As it turned out that they had close to 20 members of their traveling party. The majority were players, obviously not all of them. The majority of players that a bunch of guys in there traveling party test positive for cocaine, 19 And then it took them forever to get back on the field where baseball is trying to do. Is prevented outbreak now. It is worth wondering. This. Today is the 17th of August regular season baseball ends on September the 27th. Obviously, everybody has off days built in, so there's time if you've got to miss a couple of days. What I do kind of wonder, though. Well, I think baseball has done the right thing here and frankly, I think they did the right thing with the ST Louis Cardinals. October. When we have 16 teams in the playoffs. And we're trying to squeeze a lot of Siri's in a very tight window. And ensure that the season the post season is over before we really get to cold weather in November. What's gonna happen when we have a situation with the team in the playoffs like the one that popped up for the Reds on Friday night? Positive test and now we're not going to play for a couple of days. Not playing for a couple of days in the regular season is really not that big a deal. Not playing for a couple of days in the postseason. Could have a significant short and long term impact. More on that coming up in the seven o'clock hour at Mohagher, 15. 30 is by how you can hit me up on Twitter. One of the best players in college football is has started a petition. To try to get the big tend to play this fall. I want to know if the big 10 is gonna listen to him. I want to know if you're going to listen to him. We'll do that coming up at 6 45 but first no preseason for the Bengals this August. Which part of me is enjoying Part of me doesn't like Part of me feels for Zach Taylor. We'll do that after the 6 30 news this is sports talk Mohagher for Lance McCallister on a Monday night on 700 wlw. News, Traffic and Weather

Bryce Harper’s Walk-Off Single Gives Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 Win Over New York Mets
"Team impacted by Kobe, 19 sources telling ESPN today's game between the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates likely to be postponed after a Reds player tested positive for the Corona virus, which is heavily impacted teams like the Moreland's and Cardinals more than any other, But other teams that have played those teams have been impacted themselves with days. In quarantine. The Philadelphia Phillies won such team, but they were playing on Friday, cashing in on the faceless Mets. It was a 55 game bottom nine with ducks on the pond for none other than Bryce Harper. Swung on line two right that is going to fall in front of Conforto for a hit he fields on one hop. Here comes Quinn the throw to the plate and he is safe at home plate Safe is the call the throw beat him. Ramos applied the tag Wagner called safe. And for the moment the Phillies have won the game. And here's the call from New York. The headsets come off and he is safe in the game is over, and the Phillies have won it. It is, in fact, a walk off winner is heard on Sports Radio 94 W I. P. Bryce Harper getting there. Game winning blow with the Phillies cashing in as I mentioned on the ace, less METS, New York, Scratching the reigning two time Cy Young winner Jacob the ground for Friday start because of neck tightness. No D L For now. Harper on NBC Sports Philadelphia on his walk off winner really fast out there, and I kind of thought of all those hard. Um, but you know he's earned it. Let him score right there. So pretty happy about that one. You hold your breath. I would imagine now waiting for that replay to show up on the big screen. Pretty pretty special slide by Roman when they put the kid in there is that ball beat up by a little bit 100%. I mean, you know, being able to have a guy like that on second base. I mean, He, uh He's one of those guys in league so good throw by Conforto right there and just bang bang and he got in there so very, very happy about that
Pennsylvania won't allow Blue Jays to play in Pittsburgh
"Looking for a place to play. Canada previously denied that Blue Jays request to play in Toronto because the regular season schedule would require frequent travel back and forth from the U. S. Where covert 19 cases air surging. The Blue Jays had a deal worked out with the Pittsburgh Pirates to play at PNC Park. But the Pennsylvania Department of Health denied that request because of the surge of covert 19 cases in that region. The Department of Health said it's too risky to add travelers to the region for any reason. Baltimore is under consideration as a possible hosts for the Blue Jays. Now the Dodgers signed
Chicago White Sox, Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals Players Test Positive For COVID-19
"Latest in baseball is from a cove it's standpoint. Is. There were four teams today that announced that they had they had two positive tests each. Didn't say who didn't say which players. The teams were The The White Sox. The nationals, the Pirates and the Cardinals have had positive tests. Again. As I outlined earlier. I think this is just this is going to be part of the process. This's not March 11th were Rudy Gobert test positive and the entire N BA shuts down. Who we knew very little about the virus. Back then we were at the very front of the curve, flattening part of it. Some would argue that we've put ourselves back into a spot where we're tryingto re flat in the curve in certain parts of the country, including where I am in Texas. But but we we know a lot more now about who the virus effects may be some ways to mitigate the effects on people that are feeling symptomatic. We know that most people have fallen to the age group that these players Aaron are going to be more of them are going to be a symptomatic than symptomatic. In short, the virus has become something To manage as opposed to this gigantic warrior holding a weapon ready to chop your head off, which is what it felt like back in March. I mean, it's still a serious thing. I don't want to take it lightly, and I know for certain people out there whether it's because of age or underlying health issues. It's a much bigger deal than it is for some, so I'm not trying to minimize it. I'm just trying to I'm trying to express how sports is viewing it right now as a major issue to manage as opposed to something that is going to turn the lights off all together, it could still turn the lights off altogether. I just think it's going to take a lot for these leagues to shut down. You know they're expanding the rosters. They're taking every health precaution available. The big tell is that none of them are being specific about what exactly would shut down the league. That to me is the one way that you can tell that it's going to take a lot to shut down the league. Or maybe shut down a team and by the way they would shut down a team and just remove them before they shut down the sport.
Pittsburgh Pirates Donate Hundreds of Pizzas to Hospital Workers
"Pittsburgh Pirates or doing something very very nice he did something I should say very very nice that is that the liberals he's team is a piracy off an upgrade program director they actually delivered yesterday four hundred pies pizza pies to hospital workers in the Pittsburgh area excellent job they don't win baseball games anymore the data will be stored on the park a long gun but excellent job by the Pittsburgh Pirates gas forge a pizza pies for organization it's worth how many millions of dollars
Brandon Taubman fired by Astros in wake of incident with female reporters
"What do you make of the story involving former assistant GM Brandon is it tall men is that I would say that his name I don't wanna mispronounced words on his name and and just its impact of anything on the Astros the first couple games of the series well it did how men out man got it personal I don't think that this had any impact on the players I think of anything it was a mild distraction but I don't think that it had any kind of whole hold over on the field I think that that had everything to do with the national aging very well in the first two games perhaps the actors are pressing a little bit but certainly they have turned in and then themselves the past three games that even three games to two lead I was extremely surprised by how the organization handle that this is the savvy organization as we know well I thought that their initial statement was absurd and I thought that it was absurd that it took them so long to realize that but it does seem as of yesterday after Jim crane had emailed my colleagues that the asking a full retracted that statement that this thing is more or less behind the organization do you know arm do you know this is the GM right because we've talked and I'm I think I said on the last week I was looking forward to having you on just to get some perspective on on who this guy is in any insight into and I'm not justifying his BA behavior whatsoever I don't know him but I would imagine his career is probably far from from my where he wanted to be right now I know him a little bit I've talked to him a little bit I don't know him well enough to know him personally but certainly this is somebody given his central role in the rise of the Astros since two thousand fourteen who might have been a front runner for certain open general manager jobs and there's another one now the Pittsburgh Pirates I certainly that's not gonna happen I'd be surprised if he has much of a future in baseball now all right let last question for you on this particular topic talking to to Ben writer he here on the show do you think and again I don't know this guy and maybe you three reporting can have some insight to this question is this incident that went on this inappropriate behavior and the the subsequent dishonest response to the Astros do you think that is tied in correlated to any kind of arrogance that has resulted in the remarkable baseball success over the last few years I think possibly a little bit I think that they certainly have every reason to think that they know what they're doing based on the remarkable turnaround but I also think it's a lesson that building a great baseball team perhaps doesn't have much relation to your publicity at many will at minimum or at least other skills that it takes to run a organization that successful in all ways I do you imagine they probably learned some lessons from

"pittsburgh pirates" Discussed on Starting9
"Mets officials believe it's likely jeff mcneil will need to be placed on the injured list due to the injured left hamstring but they're waiting for m._r._i. Confirmation information this afternoon. Ruben takada is the likely call up per john hayman and that was a jon morosi tweet so jeff mcneil will starting nine batting that fucking if he if he gets fucked for the batting title because this injury which will probably end up being the case that sucks because not is the rightful owner of that batting title he earned it sounds like it is he the rightful owner of that title talking about just overall in general or for rookies. Maybe you're but overall. Is that what you're thinking. He's overall batting title <hes>. There's some some young guys saying there's some young guys that could be competing for that spot like talking about anybody with the pittsburgh pittsburgh pirates like how kendrick oh okay all right batting title where christian yelich one point ahead of jeff mcneil this current juncture brian reynolds of the pittsburgh pirates hitting three thirty eight <music>. I'll say this dallas brayden just randomly adopting the pittsburgh pirates in the past year as one of my favorite starry nine storylines nowhere for no reason like it's not even like there was is hype surrounding them and it's like he got on the bandwagon. While well again was good. He was just like dab. I'm gonna get in while there's no reason to and just ride this thing until the wheels else fall off which was promptly thought about hopping on the wrong pirate ship bucket jay from the top rope rope faulk volpi you. It's it's it's it's simply because of the love i share for the renegades of the rotunda out there in left. Feel those guys welcome me into the tribe. "In sports the brewers get their second win in a row over the Pittsburgh Pirates Florida three the final at PNC park a combination of heads up base running and basepaths interference in the ninth inning by Brewers rookie Trent Gresham gave the brewers their fourth run the run that made all the difference as the pirates made it a one run game in the bottom half of the night the crew will go for the sweep tonight our coverage begins at five thirty first pitch a little after
Pirates, Reds await suspensions for latest brawl
"Way two major league teams at British don't care for each other very much probably won't patch things up anytime soon ABC's what Johnson tells us about what happened at their game last night a massive brawl breaking out between bitter rivals the Cincinnati Reds in Pittsburgh Pirates throwing haymakers we still fight starting after the pirates pitch too close to a Reds better later in the game appears to defend his teammate engaging in a heated discussion on the mount that's when things escalated to the sincere is coming from the pirates it's dug out shouting toward the mound and gear it takes off and now chaos ensues but just when things seem to be quieting down Reds player Yasiel who had just been traded gets in the middle of the few held back by other players it's the second time this year these two teams have turned the game into a boxing match is this this time around eighteen members rejected including two coaches after being kicked out the man who started the fight apologizing no I was angry you know today it wasn't it wasn't about baseball second team mates and and you know pirates won the game in Cincinnati eleven to four there will be significant suspensions
Winners and losers of the 2019 MLB trade deadline
"We'll talk a little bit more about what happened with the trade last night so I'm too teams in the Cincinnati Reds and the the New York Mets who are not really in contention in their respective divisions either the the Cincinnati Reds a little bit better off I think in terms of whether or not they think they can make a push towards the playoffs now they're in fourth place eight games out of their division with both the brewers and the cubs sitting right in front of them of course are in the center the got the cardinals up there as well so three teams between them in the top right he Pittsburgh Pirates who were team that was in the mix and Josh fell on an absolute tear at the beginning of the season I had I had sort of put them back into contention made them feel like a maybe the pirates were involved that was the one division baseball we looked up and down you said I don't know who's gonna win this thing clearly the cubs are a favorite we got five teams here could come out and do some damage you take a look at the the wild card standings now the Reds not looking so hot there six and a half games out but they do have one of the best rotations in all of baseball specifically in all of the National League now they could be doing something here and they've got this they've got this general manager Nick crawled not Nick Kroll not the comedian not that the dude from from the fantasy football shows that show called blanking on the name of that show it we came here if you can remember the name of that show that was a fun one the on assets was it was like the it might be just pop on Intel to me did the league the league dude phenomenal show the league I blanked on management off there for a couple years Nick Kroll of course rocks in on the league Nick Kroll the general manager of the Cincinnati Reds thank you and I'll be back bright arsenic crawl was promoted from the president of baseball lobster like the admin assistant to the general manager a couple years back for the ranch it ever since he's taking over as GM of the Reds he's been competitive and I think that's all you can ask for from a general manager number last offseason when nobody was making trades nobody was signing players and he was out here we want to do one for mac camp yes you'll pull weeds Alex would he was out here saying we're going to be a competitive team went out to get Sonny gray from the New York Yankees so this is a guy who's been aggressive now I'm liking that because two of the players that were traded in two of the top line pitchers in Marcus Stroman and then introvert our that were treated because they both have a year of team control beyond this year they've set themselves up now to try to be competitive this offseason and be competitive in the next year and the Reds well we've got a deficiency in offense they were not going to get anything for Yasiel per week he was a free agent the end of this year he was gonna leave more than likely again I'll see what I said when they traded for him yes simply doesn't scream Cincinnati to me he's not a guy why I look and I think man that died that day both with the Cincinnati Reds role about now barely like plan there any like fighting for because if you miss this last night we've got plenty of audio for you on the other side the Reds in the pirates got into a brawl and this was in a a match Muncie Madison Bumgarner I'm gonna bark at you is around the bases type stuff all this was an actual brawl and the the irony in all this is the brawl goes down like within two or three minutes of us finding out the yes yep week has been moved from the Cincinnati Reds to the Cleveland Indians after not familiar with what the trade is the went down Trevor Bauer of the Indians one of their front line starters how the Indians by the way also feel like air and they're right in the middle of their division known as well sit behind the the minister twins but Cleveland Indians right now are two games up in at number one wild card spot if you go when you look at the division they still got a chance to go and win their division three back to the Minnesota Twins so they traded one of their best pitcher Jim Trevor Bauer with again a year of team control beyond this season but they feel like they're getting Danny Salazar back they also feel like they're getting Corey Kluber back who have been throwing on the side cells are may be activated as early as later this week so Indians feel like they've got reinforcements they also filled two major holes to major deficiencies in their line up and that's that they went out they got friend know ray is from the the of the San Diego Padres to was rumors that poppers were looking to move either him or hunter Renfroe I think if you look around for was more of a a better corner outfielder and you've got a talent friend arrays who's really a designated hitter I so he's I mean he's got a slot right into a DH spot there in Cleveland and the Indians also make a cross state trade the three team deal that sends Yasiel Puig now are to the to the Cleveland Indians so it is I think I won this deal you get friend rants redid young power hitting designated hitter who you're gonna put your line it probably for the next decade or so you would hope you got pulley gal who's got playoff experience Tuesday he fighter who's the guy who gets under other teams getting he's been plants a pretty damn good baseball of late and you give up Trevor Bauer Trevor Bauer now goes to the Cincinnati Reds sort of a weird deal there the pod reason have given up login what login Allen was a back in young starter for them and they give up friend raises we mention the Cincinnati Reds though this is a peculiar one they give up their number one prospect in their organization now he had a down season is in Taylor Trammell but they do believe this guy projects to be a major leader in the next couple years I don't think he's played beyond double eight people on the tax line already I too and I'd say in my head hurt trying to figure out what the hell the potters are thinking with that trade I'll tell you what I think the Padres are thinking with that trade I think the thinking they're not done they know was sent to guard this offseason may still be a trade piece that the that the New York Mets are looking to move maybe they'll be looking to move Marcus Stroman there will be moves made this offseason but now the Padres which are already pretty stacked minor league system have set themselves up to go out making other moves and out and bring some pieces in that will help them be a competitive team I'm all about teams were not totally in the mix yet who are not totally competitive yet setting themselves up for future seasons and I think that's what we're seeing with the Padres a little bit more clearly than what we see with both the Reds and the Mets the Reds and the Mets in acquiring the two front line starters that were available that we knew were available have kind of thrown this whole buyer seller thing

Gary Jeff Walker coming up in one hour. You heard it from ROY Adams in our eight o'clock news. Nikola Delo lefty from TCU, let that Mario lefty from TCU is the first round draft choice of the reds, seventh over all he is a left handed pitcher. This is a kid from California, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round of the two thousand sixteen draft and he was the highest draft choice that year to not song didn't sign with the pirates elected to go to TCU, and there did quite well, he's twenty one years old. He was named an all big twelve first team, performer end of the draft at the top pitching prospect is rated by baseball America in sixteen starts this year with TCU he pitched to a two point three six ERA with one hundred and thirty one strikeouts. Over one hundred and third innings holding opposition opposing batters to a two or three batting average while posting an impressive zero point nine eight whip. You know what I love about this in nowhere? This little bio of his does it mention win loss records, I've made a vow on my show on ESPN fifteen thirty two never mentioned a pitchers win loss record because it is a terrible metric, and there is nothing about his win loss record here, he is the first picture taken in this year's draft mentioned, twenty one years old, a lefty, and we'll hopefully between now and nine o'clock at a chance to chat with Nikola velo first round draft choice of the reds, seventh over all the consensus that I'm getting from following people on Twitter who really follow this stuff is good pick of fine pitcher, maybe not quite as sexy, if you will, of compared to the last three first round choices the reds, which you go back to Nick sons L, that's paying early dividends hundred green, who unfortunately has paid no dividends to the reds, but was for a lot of people a no brainer with the second overall pick last year. Jonathan India, third baseman from Florida, who is currently. In the red system right now. And recently has been doing quite well anyway, Nick Novello the pitcher from TCU first round draft choice of the red seventh overall, hopefully get a chance to spend a couple of minutes. Chatting with him between now and nine o'clock. You know, we were talking before somebody calling up, it's, it's really hard to kind of figure out where the reds are going next. I don't think it is. I don't think it really is. And I talked about this, and people take it as all you just want to blow the team up. I don't wanna blow the reds up at all a part of the plan. This year was the most likely of the three scenarios either the reds are going to be terrible. Okay. Or great. The most likely scenario was okay. Chances are they're going to win more games than they did the last four years. And there's a good chance. That's the case, chances are the reds won't win enough games to contend for anything. I think you've had to have eighty seven wins minimum sense, the reds since the second wildcard team was instituted in two thousand twelve eighty seven wins for the reds to finish with eighty seven wins, they'd have to go sixty and forty three that, that doesn't seem like I hope it happens, but it doesn't seem likely so barring that it big part of the plan was, we got a bunch of dudes who are not going to be here or at least not under contract next year. And so I think the prevailing thought for the front office was we might have a chance around the trade deadline. To get younger to add to our pipeline of prospects or to even add guys who are already at the big league level, but who are controllable, and maybe that involves the SEO, maybe that involves a Jose Iglesias maybe that involves a Jared Hughes or David Hernandez. Maybe it involves a scooter genetic or Alex wood or a ten ten a Roark this team went into the season with a lot of guys who are not under contract for next year. You don't have to trade all of them. In fact, you can re-sign some of them, I'd be more than happy if a reasonable contract, Jose Lacey's was here, but the job, he's done at shortstop. I heard Marty say it on the radio broadcast yesterday for the second time I've heard him say this. That is a guy that you would pay to watch play. He is that good defensively and he's been far from zero at the plate. But the bottom line is the reds do have a lot of guys who really don't project to be major parts of this team. Whatever it's good again. But. That's not blow it up. That's add to what they already have because the crux of this team for me for as much fun as Derek Dietrich has been that as much fun as we can be the, the real meat of this franchise right now is this core of guys who are already here who look like they could be the nucleus of a club that in a couple of years could be quite good next season. Barring something totally unforeseen. The reds we'll have a one two at the top of the rotation. That includes Louise castio and sunny, gray, by the way sunny grant, roughly ten mil per year for the next three years. I think is a pretty good bargain. They will have playing somewhere centerfield or somewhere else. They will have Nick sends out. They will have a you Haney Suarez who might be the face of the team right now and is arguably their best player and yes, they'll still have Joey Votto who at the very least start to hit a little bit recently. The minor league level. There's Tony santee and tailored for Mel, Jose Siri Jonathan India sooner rather than later, and, yeah, there's good questions about where some of these guys are gonna play. But those are good good questions to have. So I kind of feel like as frustrating is that might be in the moment watching them lose two out of three to a Washington team that does played better? But it's still not that good. As frustrating as it was to watch them. Go three and four on a homestand, where a lot of us looked at it as an opportunity to really kind of make a move over the last week. The eyes have been on the prize for me all along. And I kind of feel like it's, it's been maybe not as knowledged as someone like, but a part of the plan was get better this year from last year. But more importantly, kinda, cultivate that core little bit. And by the way, there's good questions about that. Chorus Jesse Winker really a huge part of it. And if so, how much could Scott Shutler who's in Louisville right now. Be a part of that. What kind of player is Joey Votto, going to be in a couple of years, because he is undeniably, a part of that. And is there somebody like an Alex wood or Jose glazes or a scooter Ginette, or even I'll go ahead? And say even though I don't think it's going to happen. Yes. Yelp league that could could ultimately still be a part of that, because the reds extend them, but they do have. I mean, I think if you're if you're looking at teams that could be in sell mode around July thirty first reds are in a pretty good place where they have kind of a little of everything. Bench guys bullpen guys starters, outfielders infielders guys can play multiple positions left handed hitters right handed hitters you don't need to trade them all and you're not trading them just so everything must go. You're not doing it to liquidate your team. You're doing it in an effort to add assets to what they already have a minor league system that has a better place, than it was when this rebuild started a big league roster that in many respects is in better shape than it was, when this rebuild started, that's not a pessimistic point of view to say that they should really think about selling off parts that they should go into sell mode. It's actually pretty optimistic point of view that, if they make smart decisions and make good moves, and don't allow themselves to become too emotionally attached to players, along with making a smart signing or two among guys they already have they could really put themselves in a place where serious contention, is not that far off. I think if you look at it that way, this is not about purging the roster fire sale blow it up. And by the way, the reds do have seven or eight weeks to change the conversation. But the longer this goes and by this, I mean, you know, four games under five games under first place at arm's length wildcard maybe closer to arms length, but a lot of teams between them in the wildcard spot. I think it becomes a more and more important part of the conversation because I think it was always a very important part of what this.

"Offense you in Alex fast. Talked about it on on the corner recently their team. You've got to be careful with been on the Monte hype train. Now the mocks like are saying that I won't get him because it's prices absolutely through the roof, but it's not just him guys like Ryan o'hearn out Gordon's even been doing some damage like they've been doing some decent things with Casey and Shane bieber's just far too hit still thirty six hits in twenty nine, September innings. Casey's third in wolf. Against, right, it's over the last thirty days. You might not want the Bauer outing either because he's still working his way back now. It's not from an arm injury, but if they just wanna get him a tune-up there for three innings, I think that's on the last day of the season. You might not feel so good. Now, if it's a weekly where you have to take the two starts and just take him at the White Sox at KC for our, yes, but if you can daily it and be meticulous think that last one against KC I'm probably passing with Bauer, right? I mean, I, it's it's one of those cases where is the risk worth of award bingo and the reward of four innings for Bauer. Let's that's what is after he has a tune-up earlier on. Let's say two and runs in that time. That's not a good era. That's a four point. Five. So Reese three strikeouts or something. Is that worth it? What I don't know, right? Those agree calls definitely would be against the royals as very much of a trap play and the one I would go for another team. I look at the Pittsburgh Pirates, the going at the cubs, and then at Cincinnati, James and town. I'm starting to. And even against the cubs. Honestly, I love James at town, so I'm just doing that. I don't have any fear there, but Chris Archer Ivonne noble and Trevor Williams all get the cubs. Now, I know how well to Williams. It's absurd what he's doing. It's crazy and drives me nuts. Because I don't think you should before that well, against the brewers. I watched a good amount of that. I don't think he's good, and I think that this is going to be a bit of a trap. Again, I feel like it's a gambler's fallacy where the luck has gone his way thus far it will continue doing that. I don't think it will. So that's definitely something I'd watch out for and then Chris Archer in there too against cubs. Now he would also get the reds after, I don't know if I'm going to guarantee that to succeed as well. The resume, not a walkover. I mean, they can do damage there. Obviously, a low team ranking standings wise, but you don't. You don't wanna mess with them. You gotta you gotta be careful. So and Chris, arch against cubs already giving hesitations. I hear that with the reds and I'm kind of trying to slowly back away from those two starts. Yeah, I totally agree with that. So you wanna be careful Pittsburgh outside of town, Philly. Outside of Nola. We're starting both those guys for sure tab. Excuse me, New York, going into that Tampa Bay series. You wanna take a look at it just maybe have a little bit reservation by the way Severino Tanaka get. If you're doing weekly, they also finished the season at Boston. So if I'm in weekly, I'm probably more apt to lean away from Severino specifically as opposed to the daily where I'm a little bit more open to doing it and then I can sit in for that at Boston start. But it's a tough week I want. I want to end with a question for you because our friend Sarah says, talked about this about ending the season sooner than the regular season and some sort of in a football sort of thing because there can be so much walking with tune-ups and whatnot here..

"It's extra innings. Here's who sponsors the show Tri state Chevy dealers ex raining show, all that's going to happen right around eleven o five. This is this is this is the post game show. That's not the the postgame show. That's that's not extra innings reds lose to the brewers tonight by a score of seven nothing. The final time they took on Milwaukee this year they finished with a record of six and thirteen against a team. That's going to be in the playoffs. Probably as a wildcard. Although they've got a chance to gain a gain not not the reds the brewers chance to gain a game on the Chicago Cubs were losing tonight in Arizona by a score of four nothing that game is midway through their heading to the bottom of the fifth inning with a win tonight. The brewers cut their deficit in the National League central to three games. But let's face it, two and a half games or three and a half games. Whatever it ends up being by the end of the night. It's hard to make up in a week and a half got a sizeable lead in the wild card race. It'd be hard for the brewers to blow it so probably going to be in the playoffs. Nonetheless, Red's, not very good against them this year. And you heard Marty Brennaman mentioned it in the in the ninth inning. How bad the reds have been this season against the good teams in the National League central which which frankly is you know, everybody probably going to have three teams in the National League playoffs. Saint Louis in the second half has been fantastic. The brewers are probably going to be a playoff team and the Pittsburgh Pirates are three games over five hundred and while. There might not be four teams in the National League central next year that are over five hundred tarred to imagine this division being much worse next year. And so if you're the reds, how do you make up all that ground twenty five games now out of first place? We've got an hour to talk about a lot of different things primarily kind of the track. I wanna take tonight is this season was going nowhere from about two weeks in they've got off to a horrific start. In fact, it's kind of interesting how they've kind of book ended the season heard you've talked about it in the post game show. Third time on this road trip. They've been shut out. They've scored seven runs in six games. So far in this road trip which continues in Miami tomorrow four game series against the Marlins. The offense is totally gone silent. And the major reason why this team got off to an historically bad. Start was a three and eighteen start largely because the the bats going silent. And so you had this season where there was so much progress in so much hope I think driven by the offense that's been book. Ended by beginning where no one had an ending were no one hit and very uncertain uncertain future in front of this team. And what I'm kind of interested in is how they're going to sell you and me and a lot of other people casual reds fans, even die hard reds fans on what they're going to be doing next year and moving forward this is the fifth consecutive September fifth consecutive September or the reds have been playing out the string, and we're frankly, not that many people are paying attention, and we'll kind of tie that into what they might do with their managerial. Search an hour to get to it all our phone numbers..

"You're not even close throughout the game because you give up a five spot. We're standing, but then you abouts back. You show some Tennessee. You show some spunky, Joe Simko Honus with that extra inning win in eleven innings there on Sunday. And you know, again for them, same thing, blown salmon thinning at amount of vino gives it up and then you outs back and get that win there in the eleventh that's a big win for team. Mike, Colorado, that's building blocks going into, tonight's match up with the Pittsburgh Pirates in town. So these are the little things. The little nuances that you wanna look for here at this time of the baseball season. Because obviously, you know, as we transition to football here on the show, you're probably doing the same thing with your personal handicapping transitioning over to the football side of things. Maybe baseball takes a back seat as you're doing your research and. Betting the preseason and maybe a little bit late to the season win total market. But maybe you're doing that as well. And of course, we've got all one hundred and thirty teams previewed over Bengal book dot com for the upcoming college football season, but these little things that you want to look for here and you can find some situational angles at this time of the year kind of is the dog days of summer. Even though the all star break was just two weeks ago. It's the grind. You know the the grind of trying to catch that little bit of a breather is something that teams do try to do here at this time of the year. And sometimes they will slip up and sometimes you can kind of see those spots coming. Do I think that the Rockies you know, have some difficulty here today with the with the pirates. I certainly think that it's possible you I wrote up my picks and tips very early in the morning here mostly looking at the overnight lines, but you know, that is one of the the angles that I was kind of looking at. One of the angles I was sort of considering here is to take Pittsburgh tonight you'll because the market did come in on Pittsburgh. You've got Kyle Freeland regression. Candidate. You've had a couple of blown saves over the last three days for Colorado. Brian Shaw is still not usable. Jake McGee still not useable. So you've got a hope that Wade Davis, D'amoto vino figure this thing out, whereas Pittsburgh's back into the bullpen with some of their call ups here this season with the initial Kiani Keila they've got a very strong back end of the bullpen. That's what you wanna do here this time of the year. If you're looking to play dogs, play on dogs that have strong bullpens because you need those.

"Pick me up. Don't let the afternoon struggles ruin your day. Going to Dunkin run. America runs on Dunkin and barstool runs on Dunkin. We just had the trade deadline which was a day that I needed Dunkin because I was very cranky as very tired. A lot of shit going on a lot things happening in the world of baseball. I would say. Surprisingly for for a lot of people going into that final forty, eight hours the winner of the trade deadline at this point because I mean, we don't know how these things are going to pan out yet would be the Pittsburgh Pirates has to be the has to be the pirates. They go and get Chris Archer from the Tampa Bay rays. They gave up a decent amount to to to make this deal happen. They also go out and grab a second closer. Now they have a bullpen where I guess they're sort of following the trend that's been developing over the last three or four years or so where teams that have made deep runs, not necessarily all the teams that have won championships, but deep runs getting two World Series have built up a Super Bowl pen of sorts. So not that this is a Super Bowl Penn, but when you have an all star closer and another legit closer in your bullpen, that's that's. That's pretty formidable. Not now if you can get a guy, go seven innings. Now you're talking about a seven inning ballgame because those two guys that are waiting for the back end. So Chris Archer goes to the pirates, but it's not just we talked about this on your show Dowden with DB Sirius XM radio. This is these aren't just rentals. There are teams that are going out there get. Ding, rental players for their stretch run this year. Lot of teams doing that and that's okay because it works sometimes rentals payoff because you acquire a player who was stuck on a team in a shitty market on a last place team going nowhere. They're a free agent at the end of the year. No one's noticing their performance. They go to a postseason team. They go on a run in August and September, and you can make a lot of money by by doing that. If you go out and get a rental player. But Chris Archer not a rental player, he's under team control for till twenty twenty one. Basically, he's, he's basically a free in twenty twenty two. When you think about the team options? Yes, in twenty and twenty one. Yeah. Good. For Chris Archer, as far as long jeopardy's concerned as well, my because you're taking over to the NL, but..

Much vacation as they wanted, later in the day so, myself, Jason Fitz slid over there for a little bit times hung, out with us it's been a long journey but it's. Led me back home it feels good. Be back here is good as they can feel to have my alarm set for, to forty, again for the first time. In a while but still feels good to be back in front of the Mike out here ESPN radio is presented by progressive insurance getting a quote is easier than ever and I look at what went on yesterday and there's going to be a. Lot of, praise certainly he's done a couple of major league baseball teams and we'll get. To a couple of big, moves made from yesterday Chris Archer. Really seems to. Be the highlight of this the unlikely Pittsburgh Pirates inserting their role but as we know the Pittsburgh Pirates third in the NFL central doesn't, really feel like a team we're going to be talking about come September and. October as far as comes to those. Teams we've got a couple of weird instances Of injury disease. Affecting starting pitchers that will get to When, we talk about the AL east but for right now this gambling story to, me feels seismic in not only, just what it means sports leagues and gambling working together but exactly how this went down because now all of a sudden we've got the blueprint at least for the foreseeable future going forward as we still wait for gambling to be realized as a state to state set of laws that are, going to all have to come to pass these, dominoes they're going, to have to fall along the way but Commissioner Adam silver announced the league struck a deal that makes MGM resorts the exclusive official gaming partner of the NBA WMBA, MGM is going to receive the rights to use league highlights logos and direct data feed from the. NBA that'll help fuel the company's. Growing sports betting footprint now. There already a relationship there MGM owns the WNBA team the Las Vegas aces and has had a presence here already But Adam silver being the progressive Commissioner, that he is spoke yesterday about wanting to make sure that they leverage that relationship into what we've got now. MGM has a very, unique position with the.

"The rip your heart out part not in some crazy whatever game you know june game to the pittsburgh pirates but the idea that they did they got themselves back in only to fall short and that's the part that just kills you if you're metsu you gotta understand that's not true lie when you're losing you don't get the hot it like what are you talking about looking into the bro i know well they've also like we've lost what we've won one out of fourteen at home that's rough that's not what lou listen that's not show line well that's the winters line that's what that's what you get to do when you're winning i won't even get on them that much about that on a little bit because this i never get on baseball players because failure so much a part of it that you actually do come up in a big spot at that point you gotta just act like you you haven't been every four but at that point you don't get the putting any extra on the top now i get it he cried tears but yeah just like all the rest of us but back to the the other argument of this is we're hearing a lot more as we've been talking about for a long time about sandy and where they're headed in the future and i think it's pretty clear not that they're getting rid of i think it's been clear since spring training that sandy this is sandy is last year either way so very important time and they were going to say exactly so does that mean that john rico's going to be the gm i think he deserves an opportunity but it also answer asks a bigger question does it have to be just completely revamped does it is it one of those things that from the very top all the way down you need to put an entirely new organization into place yeah well i mean if you think about sandy's sort of history right i mean he basically came from like the moneyball as moneyball was starting in oakland and then when billy bean took over that he moved over to the league office and then from the league office the mets brought them out to become their general manager you know just the thirty thousand foot view of sort of how it went and so yeah i think that that is something that would really benefit the mets i was on loud mouths last night we were doing this fill in the blank what should the bets targeting offseason i said theo epstein is kind of like a tug and cheek because first of all he's under contract he's getting owned ownership stake you know whatever it's a good deal and i think he'd be too expensive anyway but that sort of idea you know is there someone out there not from the necessarily moneyball but is there someone that you can pluck from one of these organizations that have really turned it around to give yourself a new philosophy right and to give yourself a chance like as a bills fan i always wondered why didn't they just throw money at someone from the patriots try to figure out what the secret sauce now from the coach i don't want bella check light nobody will be able to do that but i want someone who's in their scouting right i want somebody who is understanding how bella check said about josh mcdaniels i'm going to open up my world to him i want somebody who got the world opened up so they can come back and bring us the intel that's what i'm that's what i would be advocating for when i said theo epstein yesterday the other they have all been wins for now i know every signing has been great he's wasted a lot of money but he broke to curses and i think a lot of mets fans think the mets are cursed oh i think they do i think they would love to be the third time's a charm we all know it's not going to happen at this point lead that guy well that'd be a heat check for theo epstein i mean if you can turn around the mets this is like turnaround i mean not the cleveland browns but you know what i mean it'd be like if you can if you can make if you can get a.
