Dodgers Clinch Their Ninth Consecutive Playoff Berth
"Like to welcome in now the greet buster only espn baseball insider host of the baseball tonight. Podcast can follow at buster underscore. Espn buster always great to talk to you. Guys are man so buster. The dodgers clinched their ninth street playoff spot with a win last night. How important is it for them to actually win the division though with these surprising giants well. It's it's absolutely huge. The funny thing was about nine days ago. We had the dodgers and giants sunday night. Baseball and i asked that very question of neighbors. The dodgers manager any kind of blinked looked at me and he goes. You know what it's too out. I haven't even given a thought right. He's still in the moment of the regular season. But you know now down the stretch with less than three weeks ago it's going to become a focal point because we've seen time and again how great players can be derailed. By that wildcard game. There were a couple of years Seven eight years ago when it looked like at the end of the regular season the pittsburgh pirates were the best team in the national league but they had to go through wildcard game and it back to back years they face madison bumgarner to the beginning of the greatest postseason run. We've ever seen any pitcher that was in two thousand fourteen and they lost and then the next year they got jake arrieta at the end of the greatest second half we ever saw from pitcher And they lost again and so the dodgers have a chance to be the first team to win back to back titles since The nineteen ninety. Eight to two thousand yankees. I think that the best team in baseball right now but one game. You just never

"And so i was home the whole summer and i went to about forty pirate games counting playoffs and world series and really fell in love with that team. You know it's it's hard to be a pirate fan as you said We've had so many losing years in a row but a couple of years ago our office move right down in fact i'm looking out over. Pnc park as i as i talked to you and it really sort of re-stoked my interest interest in baseball. I always followed it. But i you know sort of lost the passion for it and i thought for the fortieth anniversary of that nineteen seventy one team. I would try to go to forty games again. I did and this was two thousand eleven. The pirates were actually surprisingly good. And we're very exciting for this down for most of the summer and then and then you know fell apart of the end and unfortunately did the same thing. Last year i went to another forty games or so and and it was a little bit of groundhog day but Hopefully they're getting better but it's it's painful it really is painful and But it's a very very interesting franchise and said at the opening of the show We're both in in sarasota during spring training. So i get a chance to see the bucks a lot over brain. Did you get down to spend time in florida during spring training. I did for the first time last year. In honor of this book my wife took me on vacation To see the pirates play in bradenton four days in a row which which was great fun. It's such a beautiful little ballpark and spring training essentially relaxing type of atmosphere. So that was terrific. And hopefully i'll get to do it again. To great on a ballpark done the refurbishing. Of course to have a a media day coming up this week to to show show us what they did. They did a few years ago where they all new seats. Another kind of reprieve. Revamping it again because they had some more seep so If you look nice protect me over. Talking about yeah. They also put the lights out for their minor league. They never had lights there so they could lose Couldn't use the ballpark for minor league. Baseball and One of the things like that Sarasota where we are and of course. That's a right now The home of the baltimore orioles that had been cincinnati for a long period of time. But it's now baltimore and the one thing that is two cities are so close together I think it's been tough for Sarasota to reestablish a minor league franchise at the level because they're too close to britain in. I don't know if they're going to work out a deal. Now where they'd be part of that. Florida state league or not but to great ballparks that smith of course having football dance with science starts with having sleep down to a science because the better you sleep better you show up on game day that's why. Nfl players rely on the sleep number. Three sixty smart it senses..

"1000 in the ESPN Chicago app. I'm black, along with Adam Abdullah. The Cubs and the Pirates are about to start in Pittsburgh, Jon Lester on the mound for the Chicago Cubs. He's too and one with a 4.55. The Chicago Cubs get Kris Bryant back into the line up before we get to the White Sox. Cubs in pirates set, Teo get going in Pittsburgh in just moments. Yeah, here eyes. What's going on with Jon Lester? He hasn't gotten a win in his last three starts. You know, August 16th was our August 11th was his last win. But August 16th six innings, nine hits, five earned runs, five strikeouts than against the White Sox. We all know what happened there, three and two thirds of an inning, nine hits. Eight earned runs. He gave up four home runs in that game, and then his last game August 26th. It was a loss against the Tigers, in which he pitched five innings, gave up eight hits, one earned run, struck out five and walked one. So it is well do time for Jon Lester to write himself and hopefully that takes place. Against the Pittsburgh Pirates, who are 10 and 22. So you would think that you know if you're going to get right against the team, you're going to get right against the team That only won 10 games so far. This season s So when you look at Jon Lester on the mound against the Pirates tonight, if you're a cup, fanning you look at this rotation. I get it. The name's air there, right. Hendricks, Lester. Yu Darvish is really the on ly pitcher pitching really well for this team right now. So, Adam, you make a great point that Lester needs to get back and it needs to get right because if you look at what Cal Hendricks has done in his last three starts Just three losses as well, and he's giving up runs. And he's not pitching to the to the point where if the Cubs were hanging to the playoffs, which I know they are not right now, but it's not far off and therefore WASI Hendricks. She wants you, Lester start to get on the right track. So you have those three arms going well together, and you hope that you Darvish continues to pitch the way he has. He's basically shown us now for the better part of a year from the end of last year into this season. Here in the first half of this 60 game schedule that Yu Darvish is a top level pitcher, But now we need Jon Lester. Now we need Cal Hendricks to kind of join him with that. If this team wants to do something in the plough, looking this way, the Pirates are garbage right there. They're 27th in baseball and average and they're dead, last in on base percentage. Like this should be a team where there should be a night Where Jon Lester Kingo seven innings give up, you know, maybe one run and is the night to where the offense should be able to continue off their last win against Detroit, where they put up 10 runs in like everybody had two home runs like everybody on the entire lineup, had two home runs, I think, and so every single person all this is where you know, like we talked about it a lot. In this first half of the season. Right Where the Cubs? Yeah, they haven't played anybody because they're division is just bad there. Three half games out of first place are in out of first place, but in first place they've a three game lead. Ultimately, you're just you haven't been playing well in your last 15 16 17 games. You had the big win against Detroit to end the series. You were off yesterday. So you would need to build on that. Momenta MME. The Cubs are very streaky. Can they start a winning streak off of that win against the Tigers? And does it start with their veteran ace? Jon Lester Tonight. Lester faced Pittsburgh Once already this year, he pitched six innings. Hey, give a four hits. One run one homerun. One walk. Four strikeouts did not get a decision in that contest. So the second time around against the Pirates lineup which Adam? You're right. The Pirates are no good. They are one of the worst teams. In all of baseball, So we'll keep our eyes on the Cubs and the Pirates as we go along here on the baseball show blocking up doll with you tonight, here on ESPN 1000 the other story in town, the Chicago White Sox. They beat the Twins last night. 8 to 5. They're in first place now by a game over the Cleveland Indians. They're in first place by 2.5 games over the Minnesota Twins. Tonight, doused cycle goes to the mound for the White Sox. He's looking for his third straight victory. And also if we take a look back to last night, Louis Robert He has the home run in the seventh and then the R B I double in the ninth Fantastic comeback for the Sox last night. And really, this offense continues to just produce at a very high level, thus giving the socks a chance to win in every ball game. Yeah, I think that you know, you look at yesterday's game and the air out in right field that led to them being able to come back. They had a few heirs of their own. But that's When everything is clicking for a team and I know that you know, White Sox fans don't want to hear it, but comparing them to the Cubs. When they went on their run in 15 and 16. Everything was going their way. You would have three heirs in a game like you did for the White Sox. And you still find a way to win that game because you take advantage of the other team's mistakes. You know, when there was the air in the outfield, you saw the White Sox be able to put it on. You saw not. You didn't get a quick hook from Ah, Lucas Giolito. He was out there for the rest of the game battle, So Yeah, exactly. So this is a team. That you know they're not normally out of it. Jason Benetti was on earlier today and said, that's a game that normally the White Sox just pack it in and lose in previous years. You go down for nothing to a team that's ahead of you in the division. You're just done. If you're the White Sox of before this team's different now, this team's got a high powered offense. They've got the best offense in baseball. They've got their ace on the mound and Lucas Giolito. You knew that game wasn't over. You knew that they were going to be able to find a way to come back and Bell and that's how the Cubs were before how they just battle back. Everything is going well for this team. Right now, and it just seems like everything is falling to place for a long postseason run. Hopefully so the White Sox in the Twins at 7 10 tonight, a target field and that's where we start with our first pitch. The first pitch, a ball throwing out the.
Reds, Pirates games postponed as Cincinnati player tests positive for COVID-19
"This is sports talk later for Lance Encounters for 700 wlw. By the way. Hope you had a great weekend. As of right now, we are expecting the Reds to take on the Kansas City Royals tomorrow night. In Kansas City. That'll be an 805 1st pitch. We go on the air, with the Arnell carriers inside pitch at 705 Luis Castillo is said to get the ball against Brad Keller. Trevor Bauer is now scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, followed up by Sonny Gray. In the first game of a four game series against the Cardinals in ST Louis on Thursday, this after the weekend that was lost after Friday night raids beat the Pittsburgh Pirates and then a couple of hours after the game. We find out that a player tested positive. For covert 19. Saturday's game postponed Sunday's game postponed Ah, couple of things worth pointing out here. Seafront Rosecrans, who, by the way, covers the Reds for the athletic And doesn't awesome job. I've tweeted out a link to a piece that I think will guide you through everything happening with this team right now. But since Saturday, every Reds player has tested at least three times. The players were tested. Saturday, Sunday morning and this morning. Pittsburgh Pirates. Players were also tested in Cincinnati before they flew to Pittsburgh last night. Um As of now. Based on reporting from a couple of it from people who are close to this. There's only been one positive test on the Reds, and it was the player who found out that he was testing positive work over 19 on Friday night. That player has since tested positive again. But as of now and again, there's the latest round of testing results that they have to get. No other Reds player has tested positive. The Reds have yet to fly to Kansas City. They are supposed to fly to Casey tomorrow if they're cleared to play. The player who tested positive would have to be placed on the injured list. Somebody's going to have to be brought up to take his place. The The Pirates will be here in mid September, September 14th to the 16th so there is ample time to make up. Two games They missed right now. The Reds have 40 games remaining. There are 41 days between now and September, the 27th which is the end of the regular season, and so obviously they're not playing today They're going to play 40 games and 40 days to get to 60. They already have a double header scheduled Against the Cubs next weekend. But there is not only a Pittsburgh trip to Cincinnati, but the Reds also going PNC Park and so you can make up one of the games there if you have to. But as of now, The plan is to play. Tomorrow night against the Royals. Again. All of this is very, very fluid. As we've seen with the Cardinals as we've seen with the Miami Marlins, the good news is again. After the one player tested positive with that result being released. On Friday. Reportedly. No other Reds player has subsequently tested positive and also know Pittsburgh Pirates player As of right now 6 26 on Monday night, no other Pirates player Has tested positive. So there you go, Uh 513749 7800 The big £1.700 free call AT and T. Jerry is calling from Claremont County. Hi, Jerry. Jerry. Hope something happens. Jerry. Your wine? Yeah, sure. Go. Oh, well. A little question here if one Holding him and nobody there. Miles is okay. But they prayed about because they have to get tests back from the other players to ensure that there not also testing positive. Woman get their pink. Ooh, they did that. And so there are awaiting the latest the Siri's of results and they hope to play tomorrow. The Pirates also hope to play tomorrow. Yeah, this time, noting the Reds go to Kansas City before they do that they need to get to clear And for that to happen, they want to ensure there is no other players testing positive. Your city's okay. Well, yeah. I mean, the players are routinely testing positive testing, which is why we found out that a player tested positive on Friday night. Yes. Okay. Okay. Is that all right with you? Yeah. No. There was just a bad weekend without baseball. Yeah, Wass, I I don't I can't disagree with that. Ana would do anything about it. I wanna thank you very much. Thank you. Ok, thanks. Have a good evening. You you you do the same. The Miami Marlins. You may recall after the first weekend of the year they were in Philadelphia, and then again, they had a game scheduled against the Phillies. And on Sunday morning. They found out that a number of players on that team had tested positive for Cove in 19 And instead of baseball, swooping in and stopping the Marlins from playing. Instead, the players were allowed to vote. Whether or not they play now, I'm not sure why that would ever be the case. But that's that was the plan. That was the plan baseball let the Miami Marlins players vote via text by the way. On whether or not they want to play. They did play the game that day in Philadelphia, and then As it turned out that they had close to 20 members of their traveling party. The majority were players, obviously not all of them. The majority of players that a bunch of guys in there traveling party test positive for cocaine, 19 And then it took them forever to get back on the field where baseball is trying to do. Is prevented outbreak now. It is worth wondering. This. Today is the 17th of August regular season baseball ends on September the 27th. Obviously, everybody has off days built in, so there's time if you've got to miss a couple of days. What I do kind of wonder, though. Well, I think baseball has done the right thing here and frankly, I think they did the right thing with the ST Louis Cardinals. October. When we have 16 teams in the playoffs. And we're trying to squeeze a lot of Siri's in a very tight window. And ensure that the season the post season is over before we really get to cold weather in November. What's gonna happen when we have a situation with the team in the playoffs like the one that popped up for the Reds on Friday night? Positive test and now we're not going to play for a couple of days. Not playing for a couple of days in the regular season is really not that big a deal. Not playing for a couple of days in the postseason. Could have a significant short and long term impact. More on that coming up in the seven o'clock hour at Mohagher, 15. 30 is by how you can hit me up on Twitter. One of the best players in college football is has started a petition. Bryce Harper’s Walk-Off Single Gives Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 Win Over New York Mets
"Team impacted by Kobe, 19 sources telling ESPN today's game between the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates likely to be postponed after a Reds player tested positive for the Corona virus, which is heavily impacted teams like the Moreland's and Cardinals more than any other, But other teams that have played those teams have been impacted themselves with days. In quarantine. The Philadelphia Phillies won such team, but they were playing on Friday, cashing in on the faceless Mets. It was a 55 game bottom nine with ducks on the pond for none other than Bryce Harper. Swung on line two right that is going to fall in front of Conforto for a hit he fields on one hop. Pretty pretty special slide by Roman when they put the kid in there is that ball beat up by a little bit 100%. I mean, you know, being able to have a guy like that on second base. I mean, He, uh He's one of those guys in league so good throw by Conforto right there and just bang bang and he got in there so very, very happy about that

"To put everything together and beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8 to 1, snapping a two game losing streak and like manager David Bell said, It's just a matter of time. Our players are going about everything the right way. When that happens, things always turn around. Let's hope this is the start of a nice It'll turn around. I thought you know, together tonight, you know, you see what, Sonny? Great does. He sees He is the number one deal and over. They get together. I think the thing is like I was talking to Mel about this last night. I think I think the Reds will get into the playoffs. I mean, you know, I mean, because of the shortened season, 16 teams make it They've got to do it. Right. Well, that's what I mean. It would really look bad if they didn't. But I just didn't think they'd come out firing better than they have. But I know the stock has been on the injured list. Like you said, they've got a long road trip. I'll be honest with you, Brandon. I thought they'd win eight of their 1st 10 games. They only 18 of their 1st 19 Now they've won nine of their 1st 20 So nine and 11 record. It's time to get things turned around like now. You worry about because of the code. But do you worry about going to ST Louis at all? Are you D think everything's under control That's concerned. Chicago White Sox, Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates, St. Louis Cardinals Players Test Positive For COVID-19
"Latest in baseball is from a cove it's standpoint. Is. There were four teams today that announced that they had they had two positive tests each. Didn't say who didn't say which players. The teams were The The White Sox. The nationals, the Pirates and the Cardinals have had positive tests. Again. As I outlined earlier. I think this is just this is going to be part of the process. This's not March 11th were Rudy Gobert test positive and the entire N BA shuts down. Who we knew very little about the virus. Back then we were at the very front of the curve, flattening part of it. Some would argue that we've put ourselves back into a spot where we're tryingto re flat in the curve in certain parts of the country, including where I am in Texas. But but we we know a lot more now about who the virus effects may be some ways to mitigate the effects on people that are feeling symptomatic. We know that most people have fallen to the age group that these players Aaron are going to be more of them are going to be a symptomatic than symptomatic. In short, the virus has become something To manage as opposed to this gigantic warrior holding a weapon ready to chop your head off, which is what it felt like back in March. I mean, it's still a serious thing. I don't want to take it lightly, and I know for certain people out there whether it's because of age or underlying health issues. It's a much bigger deal than it is for some, so I'm not trying to minimize it. I'm just trying to I'm trying to express how sports is viewing it right now as a major issue to manage as opposed to something that is going to turn the lights off all together, it could still turn the lights off altogether. I just think it's going to take a lot for these leagues to shut down. You know they're expanding the rosters. They're taking every health precaution available. The big tell is that none of them are being specific about what exactly would shut down the league. That to me is the one way that you can tell that it's going to take a lot to shut down the league. Or maybe shut down a team and by the way they would shut down a team and just remove them before they shut down the sport.

"News radio seven hundred WLW part of this and and again I'm I'm trying to be optimistic I want to be optimistic I'm I'm gonna be resolute my optimism here for for baseball coming back but again looking at this through the lens of the Reds fan the Pittsburgh Pirates fan probably once baseball a Miami Marlins fan probably once baseball I don't think they want it as badly as a fan of spoke of somebody who's team is going to be very good L. A. Dodgers prohibitive favorites to win the NL favorites to have the best record in the National League and in a long struggle to keep getting to the postseason they keep falling short of winning the World Series this is a big year for them it's a big year for the Reds the New York Yankees the Chicago White Sox but a bunch of money Minnesota twins had a great year last year it's it's just it's a little bit emotionally different but mechanically the Reds when what was fun about this all season wasn't it represented the opening of a window what was going to be maybe three years where they could contend in until this franchise proves otherwise and I think this is sort of their their bigger picture objective but until this franchise proves otherwise typically what happens when the Reds are good is there good for a short amount of time they're bad for a while and that's what happened here and I really do kind of think that you know purely from a baseball perspective the the real big picture goal for this franchise should be to not have to lose ninety plus games year after year after year in order to enjoy some amount of success the St Louis cardinals haven't lost ninety games in a season in thirty years that's the goal relevance matters you want to know why they draw a lot of fans because they never lose ninety five games in a season well you might not want to hear me say it that should be the goal so window opening here means it's only open for a short amount of time when it closes the organised they're gonna sting for a while the wrong but that's usually how it goes so the painful part of not having baseball this year is this year with the Reds were supposed to be pretty good but they were also trying to do something it within what felt like a finite window maybe it was two years maybe it was three years but think of what would happen think of what could happen even if we do have a season this year by the end of the year Trevor Bauer to go away right he's a he's he can be a free agent maybe they re signed on but he could walk at the end of the year Anthony DeSclafani can walk at the end of the year you might have missed a year come and go where those guys don't play at all this year the Dodgers traded for Mookie Betts he may never play for them if we don't have a season this year but you were also trying to take advantage of having a core in place a pretty good core where you have Louise Casteel under team control and have Sonny gray under team control and have Amir Garrett under team control and you've got a U. Haney as far as locked into a very team friendly contract plus you've taken on some long term risk Nick Casciano said this point would be out of his mind to opt out of his deal so I'm assuming he's back next year and he's going to be making a huge amount of dough over the next three years for a player who defensively is not all that good you're paying for the back half of that contract when he might not be as effective a player as he was last season Mike Moustakas you're gonna be paying him sixteen million Bucks when he's thirty three years old and you're happy to do that because what you're trying to get from him when he's twenty nine thirty thirty one years old well if you don't have a season not getting anything from them you're also trying to win we have Joey Votto under contract because as as odd as it might be to hear this given the fact that he had a bad year last year Joey Votto's more likely to be a good player in two thousand twenty that he is in two thousand twenty three and the roads are still going to happen in two thousand twenty three you're also like Nixon's always a huge piece this year you lose if you don't have a season an entire year of developing Nixon cell Aristides Aquino falls under that umbrella our guys working out on their own yes is this problem exclusive to the Reds not by any stretch but it's a little bit different in twenty fifteen sixteen seventeen eighteen we would go into a season knowing for the most part the guys that are on the Reds we're not gonna be the players we hear that the next time they were good if they they were trying to win with those dudes they were trying to identify who the right guys were and most of those players were going to be here now the Reds have a core and to have your come and go where they can't take advantage of having that core would be I don't want to use the word devastating conventional ply the bigger picture things but in a baseball sense yes devastating I remember before the draft you had folks who kind of balked at the idea the bangles to take Joe burrow because they heard he didn't have enough arm strength alright fine we actually have somebody who broke down his arm strength or amount of arm strength and you'll hear my conversation with him after the eight thirty news which is happening right now this is arnelle Kerrier sports talk presented by Kelsey Chevrolet on seven hundred WLW traffic and weather news radio seven hundred W. Pirates, Reds await suspensions for latest brawl
"Way two major league teams at British don't care for each other very much probably won't patch things up anytime soon ABC's what Johnson tells us about what happened at their game last night a massive brawl breaking out between bitter rivals the Cincinnati Reds in Pittsburgh Pirates throwing haymakers we still fight starting after the pirates pitch too close to a Reds better later in the game appears to defend his teammate engaging in a heated discussion on the mount that's when things escalated to the sincere is coming from the pirates it's dug out shouting toward the mound and gear it takes off and now chaos ensues but just when things seem to be quieting down Reds player Yasiel who had just been traded gets in the middle of the few held back by other players it's the second time this year these two teams have turned the game into a boxing match is this this time around eighteen members rejected including two coaches after being kicked out the man who started the fight apologizing no I was angry you know today it wasn't it wasn't about baseball second team mates and and you know pirates won the game in Cincinnati eleven to four there will be significant suspensions
Winners and losers of the 2019 MLB trade deadline
"We'll talk a little bit more about what happened with the trade last night so I'm too teams in the Cincinnati Reds and the the New York Mets who are not really in contention in their respective divisions either the the Cincinnati Reds a little bit better off I think in terms of whether or not they think they can make a push towards the playoffs now they're in fourth place eight games out of their division with both the brewers and the cubs sitting right in front of them of course are in the center the got the cardinals up there as well so three teams between them in the top right he Pittsburgh Pirates who were team that was in the mix and Josh fell on an absolute tear at the beginning of the season I had I had sort of put them back into contention made them feel like a maybe the pirates were involved that was the one division baseball we looked up and down you said I don't know who's gonna win this thing clearly the cubs are a favorite we got five teams here could come out and do some damage you take a look at the the wild card standings now the Reds not looking so hot there six and a half games out but they do have one of the best rotations in all of baseball specifically in all of the National League now they could be doing something here and they've got this they've got this general manager Nick crawled not Nick Kroll not the comedian not that the dude from from the fantasy football shows that show called blanking on the name of that show it we came here if you can remember the name of that show that was a fun one the on assets was it was like the it might be just pop on Intel to me did the league the league dude phenomenal show the league I blanked on management off there for a couple years Nick Kroll of course rocks in on the league Nick Kroll the general manager of the Cincinnati Reds thank you and I'll be back bright arsenic crawl was promoted from the president of baseball lobster like the admin assistant to the general manager a couple years back for the ranch it ever since he's taking over as GM of the Reds he's been competitive and I think that's all you can ask for from a general manager number last offseason when nobody was making trades nobody was signing players and he was out here we want to do one for mac camp yes you'll pull weeds Alex would he was out here saying we're going to be a competitive team went out to get Sonny gray from the New York Yankees so this is a guy who's been aggressive now I'm liking that because two of the players that were traded in two of the top line pitchers in Marcus Stroman and then introvert our that were treated because they both have a year of team control beyond this year they've set themselves up now to try to be competitive this offseason and be competitive in the next year and the Reds well we've got a deficiency in offense they were not going to get anything for Yasiel per week he was a free agent the end of this year he was gonna leave more than likely again I'll see what I said when they traded for him yes simply doesn't scream Cincinnati to me he's not a guy why I look and I think man that died that day both with the Cincinnati Reds role about now barely like plan there any like fighting for because if you miss this last night we've got plenty of audio for you on the other side the Reds in the pirates got into a brawl and this was in a a match Muncie Madison Bumgarner I'm gonna bark at you is around the bases type stuff all this was an actual brawl and the the irony in all this is the brawl goes down like within two or three minutes of us finding out the yes yep week has been moved from the Cincinnati Reds to the Cleveland Indians after not familiar with what the trade is the went down Trevor Bauer of the Indians one of their front line starters how the Indians by the way also feel like air and they're right in the middle of their division known as well sit behind the the minister twins but Cleveland Indians right now are two games up in at number one wild card spot if you go when you look at the division they still got a chance to go and win their division three back to the Minnesota Twins so they traded one of their best pitcher Jim Trevor Bauer with again a year of team control beyond this season but they feel like they're getting Danny Salazar back they also feel like they're getting Corey Kluber back who have been throwing on the side cells are may be activated as early as later this week so Indians feel like they've got reinforcements they also filled two major holes to major deficiencies in their line up and that's that they went out they got friend know ray is from the the of the San Diego Padres to was rumors that poppers were looking to move either him or hunter Renfroe I think if you look around for was more of a a better corner outfielder and you've got a talent friend arrays who's really a designated hitter I so he's I mean he's got a slot right into a DH spot there in Cleveland and the Indians also make a cross state trade the three team deal that sends Yasiel Puig now are to the to the Cleveland Indians so it is I think I won this deal you get friend rants redid young power hitting designated hitter who you're gonna put your line it probably for the next decade or so you would hope you got pulley gal who's got playoff experience Tuesday he fighter who's the guy who gets under other teams getting he's been plants a pretty damn good baseball of late and you give up Trevor Bauer Trevor Bauer now goes to the Cincinnati Reds sort of a weird deal there the pod reason have given up login what login Allen was a back in young starter for them and they give up friend raises we mention the Cincinnati Reds though this is a peculiar one they give up their number one prospect in their organization now he had a down season is in Taylor Trammell but they do believe this guy projects to be a major leader in the next couple years I don't think he's played beyond double eight people on the tax line already I too and I'd say in my head hurt trying to figure out what the hell the potters are thinking with that trade I'll tell you what I think the Padres are thinking with that trade I think the thinking they're not done they know was sent to guard this offseason may still be a trade piece that the that the New York Mets are looking to move maybe they'll be looking to move Marcus Stroman there will be moves made this offseason but now the Padres which are already pretty stacked minor league system have set themselves up to go out making other moves and out and bring some pieces in that will help them be a competitive team I'm all about teams were not totally in the mix yet who are not totally competitive yet setting themselves up for future seasons and I think that's what we're seeing with the Padres a little bit more clearly than what we see with both the Reds and the Mets the Reds and the Mets in acquiring the two front line starters that were available that we knew were available have kind of thrown this whole buyer seller thing

"W Lance mcalister is off tonight. He is under the weather not feeling so good. And so you've got me tonight. Hopefully labs is back tomorrow. Resin cardinals tomorrow night. Gary Jeff Walker coming up in one hour. You heard it from ROY Adams in our eight o'clock news. Nikola Delo lefty from TCU, let that Mario lefty from TCU is the first round draft choice of the reds, seventh over all he is a left handed pitcher. This is a kid from California, who was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round of the two thousand sixteen draft and he was the highest draft choice that year to not song didn't sign with the pirates elected to go to TCU, and there did quite well, he's twenty one years old. He was named an all big twelve first team, performer end of the draft at the top pitching prospect is rated by baseball America in sixteen starts this year with TCU he pitched to a two point three six ERA with one hundred and thirty one strikeouts. Over one hundred and third innings holding opposition opposing batters to a two or three batting average while posting an impressive zero point nine eight whip. You know what I love about this in nowhere? This little bio of his does it mention win loss records, I've made a vow on my show on ESPN fifteen thirty two never mentioned a pitchers win loss record because it is a terrible metric, and there is nothing about his win loss record here, he is the first picture taken in this year's draft mentioned, twenty one years old, a lefty, and we'll hopefully between now and nine o'clock at a chance to chat with Nikola velo first round draft choice of the reds, seventh over all the consensus that I'm getting from following people on Twitter who really follow this stuff is good pick of fine pitcher, maybe not quite as sexy, if you will, of compared to the last three first round choices the reds, which you go back to Nick sons L, that's paying early dividends hundred green, who unfortunately has paid no dividends to the reds, but was for a lot of people a no brainer with the second overall pick last year. Jonathan India, third baseman from Florida, who is currently. In the red system right now. And recently has been doing quite well anyway, Nick Novello the pitcher from TCU first round draft choice of the red seventh overall, hopefully get a chance to spend a couple of minutes. Chatting with him between now and nine o'clock. You know, we were talking before somebody calling up, it's, it's really hard to kind of figure out where the reds are going next. I don't think it is. I don't think it really is. And I talked about this, and people take it as all you just want to blow the team up. I don't wanna blow the reds up at all a part of the plan. This year was the most likely of the three scenarios either the reds are going to be terrible. Okay. Or great. The most likely scenario was okay. Chances are they're going to win more games than they did the last four years. And there's a good chance. That's the case, chances are the reds won't win enough games to contend for anything. I think you've had to have eighty seven wins minimum sense, the reds since the second wildcard team was instituted in two thousand twelve eighty seven wins for the reds to finish with eighty seven wins, they'd have to go sixty and forty three that, that doesn't seem like I hope it happens, but it doesn't seem likely so barring that it big part of the plan was, we got a bunch of dudes who are not going to be here or at least not under contract next year. And so I think the prevailing thought for the front office was we might have a chance around the trade deadline. To get younger to add to our pipeline of prospects or to even add guys who are already at the big league level, but who are controllable, and maybe that involves the SEO, maybe that involves a Jose Iglesias maybe that involves a Jared Hughes or David Hernandez. Maybe it involves a scooter genetic or Alex wood or a ten ten a Roark this team went into the season with a lot of guys who are not under contract for next year. You don't have to trade all of them. In fact, you can re-sign some of them, I'd be more than happy if a reasonable contract, Jose Lacey's was here, but the job, he's done at shortstop. I heard Marty say it on the radio broadcast yesterday for the second time I've heard him say this. That is a guy that you would pay to watch play. He is that good defensively and he's been far from zero at the plate. But the bottom line is the reds do have a lot of guys who really don't project to be major parts of this team. Whatever it's good again. But. That's not blow it up. That's add to what they already have because the crux of this team for me for as much fun as Derek Dietrich has been that as much fun as we can be the, the real meat of this franchise right now is this core of guys who are already here who look like they could be the nucleus of a club that in a couple of years could be quite good next season. Barring something totally unforeseen. The reds we'll have a one two at the top of the rotation. That includes Louise castio and sunny, gray, by the way sunny grant, roughly ten mil per year for the next three years. I think is a pretty good bargain. They will have playing somewhere centerfield or somewhere else. They will have Nick sends out. They will have a you Haney Suarez who might be the face of the team right now and is arguably their best player and yes, they'll still have Joey Votto who at the very least start to hit a little bit recently. The minor league level. There's Tony santee and tailored for Mel, Jose Siri Jonathan India sooner rather than later, and, yeah, there's good questions about where some of these guys are gonna play. But those are good good questions to have. So I kind of feel like as frustrating is that might be in the moment watching them lose two out of three to a Washington team that does played better? But it's still not that good. As frustrating as it was to watch them. Go three and four on a homestand, where a lot of us looked at it as an opportunity to really kind of make a move over the last week. The eyes have been on the prize for me all along. And I kind of feel like it's, it's been maybe not as knowledged as someone like, but a part of the plan was get better this year from last year. But more importantly, kinda, cultivate that core little bit. And by the way, there's good questions about that. Chorus Jesse Winker really a huge part of it. And if so, how much could Scott Shutler who's in Louisville right now. Be a part of that. What kind of player is Joey Votto, going to be in a couple of years, because he is undeniably, a part of that. And is there somebody like an Alex wood or Jose glazes or a scooter Ginette, or even I'll go ahead? And say even though I don't think it's going to happen. Yes. Yelp league that could could ultimately still be a part of that, because the reds extend them, but they do have. I mean, I think if you're if you're looking at teams that could be in sell mode around July thirty first reds are in a pretty good place where they have kind of a little of everything. Bench guys bullpen guys starters, outfielders infielders guys can play multiple positions left handed hitters right handed hitters you don't need to trade them all and you're not trading them just so everything must go. You're not doing it to liquidate your team. You're doing it in an effort to add assets to what they already have a minor league system that has a better place, than it was when this rebuild started a big league roster that in many respects is in better shape than it was, when this rebuild started, that's not a pessimistic point of view to say that they should really think about selling off parts that they should go into sell mode. It's actually pretty optimistic point of view that, if they make smart decisions and make good moves, and don't allow themselves to become too emotionally attached to players, along with making a smart signing or two among guys they already have they could really put themselves in a place where serious contention, is not that far off. I think if you look at it that way, this is not about purging the roster fire sale blow it up. And by the way, the reds do have seven or eight weeks to change the conversation. But the longer this goes and by this, I mean, you know, four games under five games under first place at arm's length wildcard maybe closer to arms length, but a lot of teams between them in the wildcard spot. I think it becomes a more and more important part of the conversation because I think it was always a very important part of what this.

"He has boss is the only thing that has shifted in the NFL when it comes to this. It used to be that we said, well, how can the coach in charge when the player makes four or five times as much as he does. How can the play coach be in charge the answer to that is well he controls playing time. But at this point that's about all he controls, and when you're as great as Tonio Brown, you barely even control that. So it's not just that the player now has the money and Tonio Brown realizes. He also has the power. And so I'm asking you when you guys are gonna shift just slightly on this and determine that. The coach needs to be more of an administrative assistant instead of the guy who's writing self help books. The Steelers franchise has had sixteen head coaches. That's a fine. I don't wait a minute. Is that but they're only three I know. Yeah. But actually when you peel back the numbers how many since nineteen sixty-nine hold on a second name all of the other coach at the top of my head. Don't you know what hold onto it for a second? I wanna come back and just see if we can name any of these other coaches because I thought it was just three coaches in fairness five of them is when they were the Pittsburgh Pirates. You might wanna listen Joe. Your joke was good, Dan. It wasn't three. You're slightly off at sixteen. I just want to figure out if I could find even the fourth. I can't think of a fourth Reich Sugano is nice to have a helping hand especially when it's act season. And that hand is attached to a licensed tax professional, but turbo tax live. "Terrible football coach. He's a prospect. He's he's a reliever Tommy John surgery for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Let's see who Paul next up Paul who's John Edwards? Oh, John Edwards? He was presidential candidate wasn't his. That John Edwards was Opole Titian, but no longer in congress. There is a relief pitcher Indians. Dang it. Now is dirty dirty on? Come on. All right and last but not least for the win. Jason who is Andrew Kim. Indicate as a politician. He is appalled. Oh. There we go score of Jason four Paul three. Ellen one Jason has taken down the first in probably only addition of congress member reliever or top prospects. And all this can't be the only time I'll come up with one. So that you can play too because that's the way it handled. The did pitch in Charlotte for a tad to page last year. Yeah. Had to be. That's fantastic. Well, that's gonna that's gonna wrap us up know, let's go ahead and talk a little bit about one other thing from Ellen that that you've been working on her work done. I know Jason you you guys were talking about it right before the show something called love and communication. Why don't you tell us a little bit about that before we go? Oh, yeah. So last full I shot this film called love and communication. That's about parents of a child with autism trying to basically figure out what program is going to best serve their child, and and sort of they both go to increasingly far links to. To find the right option for their child than I play a school administrator in that film. And it if the the film was written and directed by a. By a a wonderful man who has an autistic, son. And so this is not based on what actually happened to him. But certainly based on his own experience with sort of dealing with, you know, foot figuring out how to how to educate your autistic child in the best way business, the struck you closely. Yes, right. People may know, my son has asked burgers, and so I have dealt with many school administrator out for the past. He's an eighth grade. But this has been something that we've the individual education plans and different things throughout his educational career ends. So I'm very treat obscene this because I typically tune into TV or movies anything that has to do on this topic's hits close to home. In fact, I was in the Myrtle Beach area. There's this awesome breakfast place. Johnny B's waffles. I It mean. truly is amazing. Matt a lot about Myrtle Beach is amazing as somebody who has to go there at least once a year, but this particular place is because the the chef in the slash co owner has a son with autism. And have they do a lot of stuff to make it a an autism friendly environment. They sell t shirts, I'm wearing one of their bands one of silicone awareness. To acceptance is the is the thing about let's learn about autism right now. But if you're if you happen if you have to go to Myrtle Beach, like ideal a couple of times a year, that's a great breakfast place. But it's just great to see more awareness about the situation because it's something that's said, you know, more and more as I talked to different parents. It's it's obviously out there. But I'm very interested in seeing when this thing when this when when the movie comes out the Bill to watch it, and because it hits close to home again with as being the parent, but also talking to the school administrators as often as I do an I MTV tells us that attained post-production Ellen can give any guidance on to win that might be. Available. But it should be out. Soon ish. I don't know how quickly things turned from post production into being available. But are you able to speak on that at all in terms of the availability of when it's going to be out? Unfortunately, I'm not no sorry. I I know that that act all I know is that timelines vary widely poor different productions. Well, we'll keep a lookout for that. It's called love and communication as I mentioned earlier, you guys can find Ellen on Twitter at Allen underscoring there. That's a D A..
