"I think it was like a four on three power players, I think, because it was an overtime, and I was like, it was so unintentional comedy. It always gets me, right? Because there's drama building up your passing block around the zone, and the clock's winding down, such a high leverage moment with a game on the line. It's at home too, so the crowd is like slowly building up energy and sound. And it's like, wow, let's see what happened here. And then the guy just rips one and it's like the lowest percentage possible shot you could take and it misses the net by like a hundred feet. And unfortunately the commentator wasn't like, wow, you missed by a mile like Jim hewson did on the infamous CC shot, but it was still, it still had me cackling pretty good. Yeah. Well, the whole Petrie experience has been a real roller coaster. So I think you've gotten really recently, I think it's been a lot better. I think the settling in has sort of like, you know, the fizz is off the top of the drink, so to speak. It initially, it was like a lot more pre more tan St. Louis Montreal Petrie than it was. Anything after that. So it's definitely leveled out. I always had to ask is going to be on him to play the top pairing now, right? With the crystals hanging situation being what it is and everything. So we're going to see, but I know I know you're a big John Moreno guy. And so am I. So it's been an interesting experience for Pittsburgh, so I don't, I don't think all of them, they're probably sick of hearing about it for me. I don't think everyone's fully appreciative of how good John Marino has been and how good his two way game is. But that's been a bit of a tough pill to swallow. I think that's a move that Ron hexon might want to have back a little bit. You know, given the way things have worked out. Yeah. Well, I'm going to curious about your take on Marino because I think there has been some revisionist history. Now clearly I think his offensive game was pretty limited, especially towards the end of his of his penguins tenure, and there's no doubt that being put into a situation like the Devils, which is like this absolute adrenaline rush of a team where you have just so many skilled forwards or constantly flying up the ice. I have personally been pretty surprised by that long stretch pass that he's shown a lot this season because I didn't see that much of it during his time in Pittsburgh and they don't really ask their defenseman to do so, so it's kind of like an entirely different skill set that he never really got a chance to show and I didn't know he had and he's passed all the tests so far in that regard. But every time I tweet about him, it's undoubtedly met with Pittsburgh penguins fans who are like, oh, well, where was this in Pittsburgh? We never got to see this. And I'm like, oh, I don't know.
Snell runs for go-ahead TD, Steelers hold off Colts 24-17
"Many snells, fourth quarter touchdown run, was the difference in the Steelers win over the colts. The Pittsburgh defense held off a late game drive by Indianapolis for 24 to 17 victory. Steeler quarterback Kenny Pickett called it a confidence booster for his team. Colts quarterback Matt Ryan struggled in the first half as Indianapolis falls to four 7 and one

"And then you watch them in actual on ice play and it's just not matching up with what it should be right now. And that's both a testament to how productive Crosby's been that he's still has so many points because he hasn't been able to get some of those freebies, but it's also concerning moving forward because it's like, why is this why is this continuing to happen? They run the same power play set up really basically for the entirety of Mike Sullivan's tenure and he borrowed it from Mike Johnston so they've had it even longer than that and it's really just like that weird one three one umbrella, which if you think about it Dimitri, the idea is you want to get the puck into the center of the slot, right? You want to exploit that middle of the ice. But that's such an easy lane to defend. Any good penalty killing unit, that's the first place they're looking to take away from you. And, you know, what you end up with is, you know, the power kill is really popular now and have like a super aggressive penalty kill that tries to get turnovers and attacks and that bullies them. It really does. It bullies them to the perimeter of the ice. And now that you've got this presence in the slot, you've got this presence in front of the net, but you've everyone else up by the blue line. And you just can't create from that. You know, you don't, you know, I think a lot of people in Pittsburgh have said to me, let's just put malkin on the wall and just let them bomb them. You know, put them over there, let them rip them. You know, take the Ovechkin approach with it, you know? What gentle do that walk off the wall with it? That's so much success when Phil kessel was there doing that. But it just stale. It's still the talent is conflicting with itself. I don't think there's no quarterback. There's no one player on that unit that you look at and says, this is the player that's responsible for the puck movement, the breakout, the entry, the puck's coming off their stick to set up the chance. We don't really know who that is. So it is remarkable that it's happened as much as it has at 5 on 5. It's also remarkable that the power play is as bad as it is. And continues to show really no sign of making any level of improvement at all. I don't understand why that is happening because

Grant Stinchfield on the Electric Dynamic of Speaking to Conservatives
"Now what's the dynamic because this is now the 5th city that I've spoken in two weeks. So I was on the battleground talkers tool with Mike Gallagher and Dennis and we did Tampa, we did Philly. We did two other cities. They went on to Pittsburgh. Then we came to your neck of the Woods to Orange County. Outside of Philly, which was incredible with Chris de Gaulle, yours was the biggest event that was almost 1200 people in the Hyatt, and the atmosphere was electric. What's the dynamic? Is it because conservatives in California feel surrounded or is there something in the water is something happening? 8 days out from an election. What's your read, grant? Well, I think you got a bunch of things. So one, you have the same dynamic that's happening around the country and that you have everyday folks that weren't all that engaged that are now waking up to the tyrannical oppression that the Democrats are laying down on the entire country coming out of COVID was a huge wake-up call. Now with inflation and the economy and the country just going in the wrong direction. You got a lot of people waking up. But the one unknown factor about Los Angeles and that area is there are millions of conservatives in and around Los Angeles. The problem is there are millions more liberals. You have probably 5 times or 6 times or ten times as many conservatives, but you still have millions of conservatives in that city. So their voices, they want to be heard and there's really often have to be kept quiet in and around many of the business circles, which is sad because I still tell people try to be bold, be respectful, but still be bold about your beliefs. We don't move the dial at all if we're not. But this is an opportunity in Los Angeles to come to a room with a thousand people that you know think and believe the things you do and you don't have to be afraid of getting canceled. You don't have to be afraid of being laughed at or ridiculed, that you can just come and be with a group of like minded patriots and then listen to great minds like yourself and prager and the others. You know, I think that's why you see the turnout so great and the passion so great.

Charlie Welcomes Doug Mastriano Back to the Show
"Welcome back to the program. It's great to be back with you. And thanks for having me on. I like the Phillies hat. It's very good. I think we have some Astros fans in the audience. And I don't know how did that ever? Did they ever have to give back those World Series titles? Did they ever have to? Maybe we could start a trend. Yeah, I don't know. Did they ever have to give that back? Oh, Andrew said no, these Andrews, my resident baseball scholar. So Doug, talk about your race, and then I'm going to let it rip about this latest advertisement, which I think is the private part being aired out loud about a coup in the Republican Party to come after. I don't blame Oz for it because he didn't have fingerprints on it, but it was a lot of operatives kind of in his arena, not good. First tell us about your race and then we'll dive into that. At race is going fantastic. We are in the southeast outside of Philly yesterday for three events that the first event we went to in the middle of a work day. It was standing room only in bucks county. That's like a battleground county. And we're going to flip it red this go around here. We've campaigned heavy and Democrat areas over the past couple of weeks and in a near Pittsburgh in the near Philly in Erie, Pennsylvania. And we always get these massive crowds. I mean, we were talking about 600 people in eerie. We had standing room only in an event in a Democrat working class neighborhood outside of Pittsburgh. My opponent went a couple of days later. We had four or 500 people. I couldn't account it. Like I said, standing room. My opponent showed up a couple of days later. And I think he pulled in a whopping 15 or 12 people. I mean, so. That's a lot more than I would have expected for him. They have to crop in, Charlie, so you can't see the empty room. I mean, with us, we just pan the audience. You know, much like what Trump does at his events so you can see that it's real what we have going on here. And I think it's kind of the segue. This grassroots movement for some reason, the establishment is a terrified of it. I don't quite understand what's to be afraid of the people that we say we represent.
Microsoft's Fred Humphries Tells Us About His Background
"One of the things that I've always done. Especially when I've interviewed a lot of folks who people know, I want them to know the people in my podcast and whether you have a public figure that is in the news all the time or someone who's never, but around I want people to know because when I hear so much and I have a lot of different age groups listening, I want them to know that if they put their minds up they can do it. So Fred, give us a little background about where you came from, how you got here, just let us know you a little bit. I absolutely will. I'm going to do I'm trying to do the short story. Aspect, I was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. But fast forward, I was raised in Tennessee, raised in Nashville, Tennessee, great place for good country music and when I was growing up, it was more on the production side than it was on the go see a show, you know, get some good entertainment and Nashville has changed. And went to morehouse college in Georgia and Atlanta, Georgia. My wife of 35 years is from Macon, Georgia. I get there making a fair amount to see my mother in law. Went on to temple law school in Philadelphia, came back home to Tennessee, and like yourself, I have a commitment to community. I have a commitment to trying to make a contribution to society. And I think one of the places you could do that is in government. I worked for a governor, governor Ned ray mcwhorter. For 6 years, I did something that I really enjoyed. And I think about this when I think about this podcast, I was on radio station LAC 1510 a.m. in Nashville on Sunday. I had a talk show Doug, you probably didn't know. And I only had it for a few months because I ended up moving to D.C.. I looked forward for every Sunday, but I would tell you, like you have to do, preparation for a talk show is like, okay, I got 30 minutes. I got to figure out what I would say. I had an open line, and then I'm like, you know, okay, you want to get callers. Oh my gosh. The amount of time I spent on that for the 30 minutes was unbelievable,

"Park. So in the unlikely event that the pirates throw in a hitter or in the far more likely event that they are no hit, we will talk about that on Madden Ben's unfiltered on Monday morning, which will be running live at 9 30. We will also recap the big show on Friday night, the stadium tour PNC park, but we're getting things going early now, so we can both get over to the stadium. Mark, I was at Heinz field, done the parking lots from PNC park last night for the first preseason game. Let's get your reaction to that first and foremost though. What did you think of what you saw, especially from the quarterbacks in the first preseason game in the post Ben Roethlisberger era? I thought all three quarterbacks play pretty well. I thought your Biscay came out played with and against first teamers drove the Steelers right down the field showed good poise and mobility in the pocket. I thought he did everything where looking for from its trubisky, then Rudolph came on and throwed the best pass of the night that touched on in the corner to pickens that tippy toe tappy toe reception. And then I thought, Pickett, you know, played well considering he was out there with third stringers and against dirt stringers. I think the overreaction to pick it is predictable, but no less disgusting. I don't think it changes the Steelers timetable even one little bit. I think that Rudolph still in the second string quarterback. I saw people saying, well, now you can trade Rudolph, what, based on one game, third stringers against third stringers, like excuse me, half of one game. So no, I think it states just the way it is, but I thought all three quarterbacks looked like they were supposed to maybe pick it even a little more so. Yeah, the showcasing Rudolph thing to me is these silly conversation. He's going to fetch, if anything, a third day draft choice somewhere between the 5th and 7th round, depending on the urgency of the team that's going to trade for him.

"Barreled around Dan Moore junior got a piece of Rudolph's throwing arm as he was starting his motion, Rudolf recovered the ball and maintained possession more himself said Rudolph bailed him out two plays later Rudolph hit George pickens for a touchdown. No one was booing then. You know what? I was definitely cheering because I've got pickens for rookie of the year and I'm feeling pretty good about that right now. No one was booing the throw is a great throw and a really good catch in the toe tap from pickens, but I felt like everybody was just cheering the catch because it was pickens who made it and not because Rudolph threw it. I mean, I get it pickens his Pittsburgh shiny new toy. He's Christmas in August. Meanwhile, everybody seems to want to return Rudolph for store credit. Or at least a 6th round draft choice for a team that needs a backup quarterback. The fan base has seen Rudolph before. It is seen him be underwhelming. It's not like the franchise has done anything to dissuade that narrative either. In his first off season to perhaps graduate from being Ben Roethlisberger's backup, the Steelers decided to fatten up the depth chart by signing trubisky, drafting two other quarterbacks and picket and crystal ado, then despite having the best trading camp of the three quarterbacks, Rudolph still had to cede second team reps to pick at times, did so again at St. Vincent college today and that's no surprise after Pickett played the way that he did with the third team in the game against the Seahawks going 13 of 15 and leading a game winning drive. You know, it's not like Rudolph has gotten a lot of brakes lately. So maybe we should give him one now or at least not blame him for failing to have a second set of eyeballs in the back of his helmet when he's getting hit from the blind side. By contrast, trubisky got a warm reception as he stepped onto the field as the team starter. It got even louder when he kicked off that opening scoring drive by tossing a touchdown to gunner or chef ski. Wide open, by the way. And then to open the third quarter, pick it, hit Jay sternberger on a short rollout on his first passing attempt, like Rudolph and trubisky, his drive resulted in a touchdown, Jalen Warren pulled off the preseason version of the Antonio Brown immaculate extension. And all you heard were Kenny Kenny Kenny, Kenny, Kenny chance, raining down from the stands of acro stadium. And they should, you know, for a first round pick who played his first pro game and did so in the college stadium where he played her as a pit panther.

"We'll get to the story of the Steelers pre season opener in just a few seconds, but first the story of the first preseason weekend of wagering, how about the points? for the theory that we're going to have a whole bunch of unders that was a theory that I subscribed to and I got burned on a couple. The one I just could not play though was LA versus LA under 30 and NFL game, even a pre season one under 30. Are you kidding me? At least that one broke through and got to the over and I was happy about that. It was one of the few that I ended up playing, but as I glanced across the board, had I played a bunch, I would have put a whole lot on a whole lot of unders, I never would have put money at under 30, though, 29 and a half, in fact. And I believe only four games were in that 30 to 36 point range where so many of the pre game preseason over under totals had been for week one points where the order of the weekend by all accounts, especially compared to what the lines were and compared to what we usually see early in the preseason. Now I'll be interested to see how that translates to week two of the preseason when more starters on offense come back into play. I bet you see the numbers jump. I know, for instance, like the Steelers Jags game is at 42 and a half more starters back on defense two and I see that sort of simmering the under a little bit if you will. I think that you saw youth inexperience and inability translate across the board in the NFL when it came to defense keeping the totals in play for the offense to go over the threshold and they usually did conversely, I think you saw hope experimentation and forecasting an actual goals of practice on the offensive side of the ball in most stadiums. That really resonated with me. I saw offense with guys trying to execute what the teams were looking to do big picture. I didn't see just get in and out of the stadium. I saw some of that with the down the roster guys on defense across the league in the first week of preseason games. So I think if you look at a little bit more analytically, it's less surprising why the numbers went up. There just seemed to be greater stakes attached to how teams approach the offensive execution in the first week, maybe because we only see three games on the schedule now. That might have something to do with it. Those agendas led to points and lots of them.

If you meet people from the Pittsburgh Diaspora, particularly if they're Jewish, you can pretty much say to them, oh, did you go to alternate? What year? And they'll tell you their year at older dice. The morning of the attack, she was out of town at a debate tournament in the suburbs. And like Tammy habs, when we heard about earlier encountering the crosses for losses guy, she learned what was going on by text. After she heard what was going on, she wanted to leave the debate tournament immediately. But her mom told her to hold on, wait, not to come back to sport hill yet. Eventually, however, a couple hours later, she left the tournament went home and turned on the news. And I sat down on my couch and I heard them pronounce this happened on the corner of north umbrella straight. I'm like, nothing. What the hell that's not how you pronounce my street name? And this is the world listening to them saying north, Cumberland. I'm like, holy shit, that's where I live. I called my best friend Marina. And said, what are you doing right now? She's like, oh, I'm helping playing the vigil with some people. I said, where are you? I'm on my way. Emily's friend was at Starbucks. Now, there are two Starbucks in squirrel hill, so for those of you who are locals, I'll tell you, this is the one on Forbes avenue, not unmarried. This is like kind of the bigger, more central Starbucks. And like every Starbucks you've ever been in, it has that one long, Bigtable in the middle, the communal table. And there was about 12 of us sitting around that table and while this was happening, squirrel hill was a dust town. I've never seen this area so quiet. No one knew how to react. It was terrified. Emily sat there with about a dozen of her classmates and tried to do something about that silence. They did all the work that's needed for a vigil, they decided something's happening that night. They're going to make it happen. They bought candles, they coordinated with other groups, they found a microphone they found a stage, they found a song leader to lead songs that night. And they began to get the word out. They wanted other people to know that they would be at the main intersection at Forbes and Murray. That night. Now, their biggest task was not figuring out how many candles to buy or anything kind of tangible or material like that. Rather, it was deciding what kind of vigil they wanted to hold. And Emily had an idea. She knew exactly what to do. After all, it was Saturday. It was Shabbat. We wanted to have a hot dolla, because it was happening on Saturdays, so we wanted everyone who wanted to be there to be there. So being the most religious of the group. I was actually the one who was like, there should be a service. There should be at this time. Some people were like, we should make this about gun violence. I was like, this is not the time for that. This was an act of violence. Against a religion. That's what this was. So we made sure that was clear. Some people smoke and it was just something to get for the community together. We said this Abdullah, if you know the tunes of the songs,.

"Curious about what he had in his truck. Now, here I'll turn to my book where I describe what happened when Tammy hebb's bumped into Greg zanis. As hebb's remembered it, she looked into zanis truck and saw a pile of crosses in the back. They were all white and on a quick count she decided that there were 11 of them. As soon as she grasped what she was seeing, she was incensed. I thought to myself, you have got to be fucking kidding me. Perhaps remembered. And I looked around, and no one else was there, and I thought, if I have to be the one to tell him he can't put crosses on the synagogue, I will be the one to tell him, he can't put crosses on the synagogue. Hebb's had no idea who this guy was with this kind of nerve. As she was figuring out what to say to him, trying to keep her cool, she saw. On the front seat of his truck, a pile of wooden 6 pointed stars. She was relieved. I thought, okay, what will happen here is he's going to put stars of David on the crosses and it will be okay. She remembered. Zanis got out on the driver's side of the truck and approached her. She looked him up and down, he was tired, unshaven. Old. Why was he doing here? We already come from. Then she looked down and saw his hands and it was as if something became clear. I saw his hands were covered in white paint, helps remembered. It's like he painted these things overnight and didn't even have time to wash his hands. He told me his intention. He said to me, I made these things, got in my truck and drove 9 hours. There was white paint on his hands. He said to me, I've been driving the whole time. I don't even know the names that people who died. I have to write their names on the stars. And then perhaps knew what she had to do. Her mother had emailed her the full list of the dead that morning. So she had the names on her phone. Or in Hebrew, baroque bayana. And one 11 people are slaughtered, we say it 11 times Joyce feinberg. Richard gottfried. Rose mallinger. Gary ribbon of wits. He saw Rosenthal. David Rosenthal. Simon. Sylvan Simon. Daniel Stein. Melvin wax. Or younger. I brought up this list, she said. And he said to me, can you please write the names in my notebook? And he handed me a pen and his notebook, and I was shaking as I copied these names into his notebook. I have terrible handwriting. So he could write the names on the stars. When heps had written down all 11 names, she gave zanis notebook back to him. Now she had a question. I said to him, why do you do this? He said that there had been gun violence in his family, and this was his response. He said, do you remember Parkland? I did that one. Do you remember Columbine? I did that one, too. It had never occurred to me, Tammy hebb said that it was one person who had made it his life's work to drive around the country and do this. And at that moment, I realized we are just another one on the list. Now that day, Greg zanis nailed those stars of David to his crosses, he painted on the 11 names. And then he asked two orthodox Jewish men who were walking by. If they would place them on the synagogue property, they did. And they stayed there for a long time until they were moved inside the synagogue where last I checked, you could still see them through glass doors. Okay, Greg zanis crosses for losses or in.

"The audio you just heard is from three years ago. October 27th, 2018, a Sabbath morning three years ago. That's a wild thing to say. Three years. I mean, when I think of what that's been in my life, my baby son was only a month and a half old when that happened. And now he's chattering away at dinner and telling us that he wants to help us find a better recipe for tomorrow. That's his new word recipe. Three years is a crazy amount of time in life, and it's also a crazy amount of time for a sad event because it feels still so fresh for the people who are close to it. And yet the memories are blurring and for people who weren't close to it, well, it feels like a really long time ago. But we had unorthodox want to do something about that. We want to pull it close again. And when I say we, I mean, the whole team, I mean, my colleagues, Stephanie, and liel, who went down there three years ago down to Pittsburgh, and produced that special episode that we aired 48 hours later. But of course, I don't just mean we. I also frankly mean me because when I first heard about the attack, sitting outside a synagogue in Newton, Massachusetts, where I had traveled to take my oldest daughter to a bat mitzvah of a summer camp friend. When I heard about the attack, it really hit close to home. When I read that it was in squirrel hill, I mean, that was my family's squirrel hill. That was the Jewish neighborhood that's been substantively Jewish about a third Jewish for a century. Where my family has lived for that entire time. My dad was a 5th generation pittsburger and a third generation squirrel hill resident. His family was there since about World War I. His family was there, as long as anybody was in squirrel hill. And growing up, we'd visit occasionally, but more than that, I would hear the stories. I would hear the family lore. Of what it was growing up. In the 1950s and 60s in this little Jewish Eden, where the doors were always left unlocked, were car doors were open with the keys in the ignition, where no one hurt anybody, except maybe your skin your knee when you were playing ball in the street, it was that kind of place. And I grew up with the knowledge that my dad had been nurtured by that kind of place. So when I heard that the worst anti semitic attack in American history had come to a place that was as safe for Jews as anywhere in America, maybe anywhere in the world, I knew that we had to go back. So first we went back for that special podcast episode. But then I kept going. Starting in November, I went to Pittsburgh 32 times over the next year and a half. My last trip to Pittsburgh was in March of 2020 just as COVID was descending on the country and the world. But I'd already been plenty by that point. I've been going and taking notes and recording interviews. I'd been walking those streets Forbes and Murray avenues, Wilkins and shady and beechwood, Darlington, I had talked to about 250 people. And I knew by that point that the book I was going to write, the book that is now just out squirrel hill, the tree of life synagogue shooting and the soul of a neighborhood, was going to be about hope. Now, that last part might surprise you, right? I mean, I would tell people I was writing about squirrel hill or tree of life, and they'd always say, that must be so sad. But the truth is that while this was a sad story, and I heard so many sad stories about that day. It was actually a hopeful book to write. My reporting often left me even elated. I always say cheered, it cheered me, even when it was sad. Because what I was reporting on, I realized was the way that a neighborhood can be a protagonist. That the people I met in this neighborhood because they lived in proximity to each other and knew each other and their families had known each other for generations, were uniquely poised to come through for each other. That the ties that bind a neighborhood together are real and visible and touchable and not just blew me away..

"Guy a lot of money but then you have a problem when you start to lead determine how you're gonna play in how you're gonna play which i think happens often. It seems like you wanna give back the first crack at it but you put more weapons on a bill. That's never a problem to find more ways for people to produce preserved players deep into the season and it helps pollard. Get better because injuries happens. All types of things happen so there's nothing bad about having more good play is what i'm about to say tim hasselbeck. I can't believe i'm saying because i'm always the one. Who is the cowboys questioner. I made the joke a million times. They're the best team in the nfl. In july and august all the time and then the problem is the season begins through two weeks. I have been enormously impressed him. That defense is obviously markedly better than it has been the to back. Attack is effective. They've managed do some adversity on that offensive line hang in there and deck has emerged as a legit great elite nfl quarterback. I think this is the year they finally got it right in dallas. Tim what do you think green. They looked great. I mean i think everyone. At least i expected them to be really good on offense. Now i didn't expect a timeshare in their backfield by expected them to be good on offense and they've been good on offense. Look one. We saw deck at fifty eight pass attempts. They're moving the football too saw balanced attack and they ran the football called nearly thirty runs. Which i think is a good thing for them. The question mark has always been the defensive side of the ball and look. I think it's too early to say who they are defensively. But i don't think there's any question that has been really encouraging.

"Mac is. I don't think he's really surrounded by great talent in terms of the receivers in new england. I think decision making has been really good. I think he's played well enough to give his team a chance to win both weeks. And so for that reason. I starts as a rookie to give your team a chance. I think eight minus is a very fair red okay. I'm with that so let me dive into this with you. A little bit here and bring the guys in on it as well. And if we just take the juxtaposition of zac versus mac which was that big rookie game this past sunday. In which zach wilson looking through four interceptions. No one can argue with what you're saying but i think what was on full display is extraordinarily different way in which they are being developed here. Mack jones is being asked to do very little comparatively speaking the jets have just thrown zach wilson to the wolves. They coached that game in my view. Tim and i would defer to your expertise like he was a ten year veteran and said go out there and start throwing twenty five yard passes against this of genius coach. Who always terrorizes rookies. In the meantime jones is checking it down and being smart and not turning over all of that so i. I'm not suggesting your grades are not reasonable but to me. The circumstances seem totally different. If you watch the way they are being utilized this year. Tim how does that impact everything. Oh look that's the key determining factor. I think in terms of how quarterbacks turn out is how being coached and how they're being developed. Look that's why so many people said wouldn't it be great to go get coached by kyle. Shanahan isn't it. Great to be coached. By andy reid. Wouldn't it be fantastic to play for sean payton. There is no doubt that you know how your developed is a big part of how you turn out as a quarterback know that being said. I think when you when you look at it max jones because.

This is a raiders runaway. Victory to hurt percent socks to a hurt sucks to. You'll see who plays there. But i think there's going to be a runaway game. If derek carr is healthy am i survivor week. Yes after two weeks. I'm steering at baby. Couldn't say after week one last year. I'm rolling baby anyways. If car practices by thursday. I'm picking areas may survivor have when the last time i've done that i feel like this is the time so yesterday gruden said hey look garrett cards questionable right now if an ankle heard it against the steelers bad things in play but he just seems concerned about. It would be really really surprised. Eric doesn't play unless unless you woke up monday morning and it was really bad. He didn't went back on it after he got hurt. It was really wild because when he got banged up after that touchdown pass to moro. Hit look like holy. I mean guys around him. It had the it was a scene of something bad. It works like christmas eve. Two thousand sixteen and as with brands as we of course working by the job i can do on game day. I could be with friends and my wife is raider fan and it was just after halftime. And i had my little hamburger in a frigging lettuce. Wrap for seventy ever done that. I'm i'm losing weight here and it was good so i'm sitting there and it's like holy god. God you know my whole days changed. My whole week is changed. The raiders whole season is changed. Who cares about my day my week. This team seasons change and then he gets these cool tough guy under atef guide her player. Course any finish thing look good remember. This guy got hurt against the chargers and then played against the dolphins nine days later. I think he's gonna play again. Don't take that to the bank. Just my gut feeling at this point. It's tuesday afternoon things can change. But i'd be really surprised they're occurs. Maybe just jacobs dozen but things are things good. Thanks good words may be pregnant. You know i think interrupts where he's gonna be you know eighteen games into his career idea define him. I don't know. But i think he's going to be a guy who's not going to be a number one who's gonna be inconsistent is disappear some games but there's also going gonna be times when he makes really big points and we've already seen that we side against pittsburgh. Is it worth the number twelve overall pick. I don't know but there there's some value there I think we know who is going to be but yeah it was a really exciting when they played complete football and they deserve to win that game. Ben rosberg about the ways cook. He's shit adds to bad car. Hoffer shit but it's over for him. He stated the steelers shooter. Shooter ended that relationship after last season. It's hard we gotta haul famed islands giving to range. It's hard to say goodbye but it's over molin made some plays mass crosby looks possessed a when graders can get could have the nfl mvp entity player of the year maybe prairies defense is working. "When astronomer diane turn shack move to pittsburgh in nineteen eighty-one she noticed. Something big was missing from the night sky. When i grew up in new england you could just walk outside and look up and see the milky way. But when i arrived in pittsburgh the sky had started to decline in quality. Still she says at the time her students at carnegie mellon university were very familiar with the milky way they knew about stars and constellations. That is not the case anymore forty years later. I have to explain what the milky way is and describe what it looks like in a show pictures and they think those pictures are fake. Because of light pollution major constellations can be totally invisible in cities. The pittsburgh city council is now trying to do something about it with the help of scientists like turn check. It passed a dark sky. Ordinance last week to reduce light pollution. This city is going to replace streetlights with warm tone. Led lights and they're also going to install shields so that late doesn't travel up what we're trying to do is cut out the light at the blue end of the spectrum because blue light scatters more easily than red light in the atmosphere rate. That's why the sky is blue. So blue light scatters everywhere. It doesn't stay where your lighting and to measure progress. She has some help in the higher ups in august. "You buddy. Our thoughts what mcfarland we will get to all of that so go ahead in the next ten minutes you could go ahead and throw in some some questions there as well and we would talk about everything news of the day though. I just want to bring this up real quick. Yes the pittsburgh. Steelers former quarterback devlin dot com was waived by the rams today so he is on the market with the crowded quarterback room and somebody just mentioned that. This is the best backup quarterback situation that the pittsburgh steelers have had in a long time. And i don't remember who said it was staying master jay who said that So the best. Qb situation that the steelers have had. So that's the news. Also we're not going to get too much into the t. J. watt situation because it is right now a rumor but the big rumor coming out right now from jerry. Dulack is the fact. That mr t. j. watt around the carolina game before or right after which is five days from now will sign the biggest defensive contract in not just pittsburgh steelers history but in the league so not the history of the league but in the league right now so that's really interesting so we are going to go through all those questions but guys what needs to go on right now in the next twenty days tony. I'll start with you. I think it's probably already decided. But i think you have to make clear who to backup quarterback is. I think that's important because because you need that guy to get all the second team reps that he can Before the season starts. I think it's gonna be mason. Rudolph based on just the fact that that He he started. He started the first two games and he played a lot in the second game and haskins didn't really play a lot of course had to do with that. Lions drive starts. I think it was the start. The third quarter or something like that. It was like a really long drive cut into his playing time. But i think after you got you got a work out. Between now and the start of the regular season. I really like love to see haskins. Start this game on on friday and play the entire first-half anyway. I i just really not that. He's gonna have a lot of wants to play with. But it'd be nice play the entire first-half just let me let me ask you. This question. say mason rudolph starts. Do you think that he would start for a reason thinking that they might be moving them. They might be showcasing him to move him because they've got a wealth of talent. You've got guys like aj. Mccarron the backup in atlanta going down for the year. You know you think that could be a possibility. Tony 'small one. But i think i think they really like him honestly. I think. I think my tom really likes. I mean like straight hassans too. But i think i think you know. Remember these guys have egos and you know they they trade up to get him right in the third round and put it said they need a first round great on him so i think you're really invested him so i think they want to keep them around for for the but i could see you never know i could see them. A good offer came about and they really believe. Dwayne haskins his abilities and being the guy that can take the baton from ben so to speak in the future and i could see them doing that. But i think it'd be pretty slim chance right now. Shannon what do you think is on the list of priorities going forward for the pittsburgh steelers as we go through not just the carolina game but it could be anything leading up to the preseason the first game of the season against buffalo on the twelfth of september they definitely want to get the watt situation taking care of to and to decide Avid still the best option Based on what. I'm saying this for in the preseason would be to start pierre a cornerback to and move sutton into the slot where he's irvine and a lot of times people with our david's The steelers asked their cornerbacks to do a lot Mainly you know. Keep the play in front of sometimes they'll give up apply in make the tackle immediately and people's all they give up the reception but that was actually what they want. You know short of the sticks Because they're really relying on their pass rush which stores of had the best passer us for the last three or four years. They're relying on that pressure to create sex Incompletions and so. They asked the rue the quarterbacks to play a little passive sometimes But i i get that you could trust sutton in the slot because he has experienced there and have fear on that side As far as thou fence goes i still believe they have to solidify ovid's of wine To have a set pecking order right. Now they say in. Oakland is going to be the left. Haggle but our has not responded to clams michigan state. But he's not being more aggressive still be busy. He doesn't he doesn't attack. He absorbs the action it all comes to him and then if he wants the place by him he does continue to pursue and try to push from behind her. Pick off another defender. You're if you've been paying attention you see green coward and all those guys were doing that. They're playing to the whistle in beyond in cases. Hey still gives lyster. He still standing around watch. And i just don't know if he has the intensity if it's just not in his personality his demeanor to be more aggressive but if not you know with buffalo coming up soon the start the season they gotta make a decision because he might be the swing tiger and they had to start more so i would like to make sure that they got. That line is good in the comfortable as possible before that. I you know what. I was going to wait until you're finished. And when he finished. I did not know. You're going to the left. Tackle situation they're going to do is say. Hey when we come back after the break. I'm gonna talk about a camp battle that actually isn't and it is between chew. Chor dan moore junior the reason that i'm bringing that up right now as late last week thing moved ban more junior over to the right side doesn't mean that he can't win. That left tackle situation but makes me wonder exactly what's going to be happening at left tackle. Do they have a 'nother thing up their sleeve. Would they possibly consider switching banner which ucs a core for would they possibly and maybe not still not start. Dan moore junior would they. Would they just go with a rookie. After just moving him. I mean i think i think they can move back but i'm wondering right now because a lot of people i mean throughout the whole time a lot of people were talking about you know dan more at left tackle and i'm not sure if they still do him in that position but we don't know but it would be really interesting to see what can happen there. As far as everything else goes there are dallas when lee just said would they trade banner you know you never know what they do We haven't seen a lot of banner. We saw a very little bit of him the other day. It also makes me wonder if dan more juniors being moved over to right tackle because maybe they feel that banner might not be ready that he was the first one he was taken out before. Ben rothlisberger was so there are so many things that we could speculate on. But i have a feeling that okafor is going to start off the year at left tackle. But you don't know but with that being said fellows what we're gonna do right now is we're going to go ahead and take a break if you're on facebook or youtube we're not going anywhere you just stick around so if you are checking us out on any of our podcast platforms anywhere where you download your favorite podcast. We're not doing these shows without the blessings of our fantastic. Ese family in hashtag bad company. Love you there to hashtag writer dai crew. You're just as important we love you so thanks for supporting us here in. Let's get into it. It's the preseason. Once again the steelers are getting ready to play the detroit lions in a meaningless preseason game. I don't think it's meaningless at this point because you're gonna see some action from ben rothlisberger. You're going to see some starters that you haven't seen in. You're going to see. Probably the crux of the team for the best opportunity in the entire. Preseason all four games that they're playing this year and remember everybody else's only playing three and you know there's always so much to talk about when it comes to the pittsburgh steelers but of course the inquiry surrounding the black and gold or ever-evolving. Definitely especially this week with the steelers standing stefan to it to free up cap space position battles heating up and like i mentioned starters getting ready to play against the steelers at heinz field. Well actually they're gonna play the lions really not the steelers at heinz field but the steelers do play the steelers because they're competing for spots as well but in preseason week three as far as the steelers are concerned. It's the detroit lions. Who are the opponents now to me. It seems like the musical selection. That best fits. This week's factor fiction could be from very close to detroit across the border the legendary canadian group. Loverboy remember them from the eighties. Y'know red leather pants the get lucky album. The fingers crossed on the album. Yeah it's loverboy. They were big back then. Now here's a sample. Everyone's looking to see if it was you. Everyone wants you to come through. Everyone's hoping it will all work out. Everyone's waiting they're holding out everybody's working for the weekend. Everybody wants a little romance. Everybody's going off the deep end and everybody needs a second chance. Oh you wanna piece of my heart you better start from the start you wanna be in the show. Come on baby. let's go. let's go now. You might ask yourself. What do these lyrics really have to do with the pittsburgh steelers. Well maybe good or bad. Just one of them. Excuse to listen to some cannot rock but anyhow there's always a lot to wonder about bt ese tries to answer some of the poignant wondering ahead of time so take a look at some bold statements on this and more as we label them as factor fiction. Will we be on point. Only time will tell factor fiction number. One dan moore junior is making his case as a future starter on the offensive line fact. I really liked what i've seen and heard about the steelers. Fourth round selection in twenty twenty one out of texas am despite the growing pains that came with lining up against alex smith. You know more is being praised for his nasty streak in his blocking abilities now. I thought he handled himself well. In preseason action as well there were plenty of negative comments surrounding the efforts and abilities of tooks core four but upon further review number seventy six seems to be adapting to the left tackle position. Quite well i think the possession arrow for the position might be leaning towards the veteran especially with more practising law. Now on the right side but whether it's right tackle or left tackle the object in the rear view mirror that is number sixty five. The aggie dan moore junior may be closer than it appears factor fiction number two. Kevin colbert is done making trades for the year. Twenty twenty one fiction now. Don't get me wrong. I really don't expect steelers. Gm kevin colbert to acquire any more talent by the way of the trading post in twenty twenty one. But can't he be giving it away. Well giving it away for value. I could envision a player or two in a deep position such as defensive line wide receiver running back punter or quarterback to be shipped off to replenish maybe somewhat depleted draft board next season although importing talent is not completely out of the realm of possibility. It's never going to be for the likes of stefan gilmore or eighteen aaron rodgers. So get that out of your hands not going to happen. But that's okay. Those aren't the guys live. The pittsburgh steelers would be targeting. They'd be probably targeting. A draft choice factor fiction number. Three fans need to get to know the name kalem balaj. That's a fact. I say this not because this will be ear candy. Hearing yinzer pronounced the fourth year running backs name a guy. See that callum belhadj. He's pretty good in that splaine for the steelers. Check them out. he's not najji harris. But he's got that's why It's my best possible yinzer. I know everybody rips on it. But i really think that balaj could become the angela williams valuable but lost stands at six two ways in hardy two hundred and thirty pounds but he's also been clocked in speedy four point. Four in the forty yard dash in his career. Balaj had touchdown on his pittsburgh debut and check this out. One thousand nine yards on four carries with a nine yard gain negated by penalty market. Remember he was only playing in one. Preseason game now. The head. Scratcher is why the former charger dolphin. New york jet is with his four squad in four years though but balaj his said the pittsburgh is the finest organization that he's worked for an environment goes a long long way at times but the main point to consider is that the students cannot live on najji harris alone so balaj has a backup. Could be very filling as a part of the twenty twenty one roster hopefully beyond factor fiction number.

"pittsburgh" Discussed on Behind the Steel Curtain
"Already pittsburgh steelers fans. It is time for the second. Half of the live mike podcasts. And why the pittsburgh steelers are such an over hated team in the nfl. It it's like clockwork If the steelers make a move all the gotta find the negatives in this one of the things with the melvin ingram signings people trying to say all the steelers defense is old because they have cam hayward joe haden tyson allows old vince. Williams's old melvin. Ingram sold well. Guess what the the only guys that are over thirty. That are fulltime. Starters of those names are listed. Joe haden cam hayward cam hayward is arguably the second best defensive lineman in the nfl. Joe haden has not lost a step. The other guys are either primary backups. Or i guess in vince williams case a fringe starter. So the some of these. These people are just trying to get some sort of a rise. I think steelers nation tour trying to make people believe that. This team isn't good when in reality they are. It's one of those kind of things. You gotta just shake your head. 'cause the pittsburgh steelers by all means if everything clicks. There's no reason why they can't be competing for championship this year. And there's people that will laugh at that statement but then come january. There's a pretty good shot. They'll be one of the teams. That are will a playoff team. By far which. I think are will surprise a lot of people but it shouldn't and have a very good chance winning this division. I think they have the best chance right now off winning the division over the browns the ravens which people will laugh you out of a room right now but honest to go. i think that's the right mindset right now for this team unless they run into some serious injury problems and matt canada's system just doesn't work which by all means it. It's the opposite of that. I do not think you can fairly say his pittsburgh. Steelers team isn't good. I think the steelers floor is a seven one team. I think at worst. They're nine and eight team. I think that's their floor. There ceilings probably like tw- Man like 'cause they messed up the schedule. It's just hard to come up with the the the week by week predictions anymore. But i don't know twelve and five thirteen and four. Yeah they have a hard schedule but the steelers team is pretty loaded. They still have a top three defense in the nfl. And this offense is pretty underrated. Especially ben roethlisberger is as healthy and as competitive as these reports are saying they're going to be pretty darn good too and they have a good special teams unit so this hey is just one of the things that make your eyes roll and one of the places that people want to point the finger at is mike tomlin and this is a direction that many steeler fans like to point the finger in as well which is kind of one of those things that always makes me roll my eyes. 'cause my thomann is still generally one of the best coaches in the nfl players. Absolutely love him. Melvin ingram chose to play for the steelers over the chiefs or the chiefs the team. That has backed back. Represented the scene the super bowl and as a starting position on the edge. Open some more playing time probably comparable money and if people in the national media are to be believed a significantly better shot at lombardi this year. Melvin ingram choose the steelers over that. And why is that. Because mike tomlin is beloved and furthermore to that point andy. Reid is beloved. He's one of the favorite player coaches. There are in football and melvin. Ingram chose mike tomlin over that because how much players respect him. That means something. I mean something to mean. It shouldn't be something you especially. If you are a pittsburgh steelers fan mike. Tomlin has gone. The finger pointed his way a few times in the last What six calendar months has it been fair. I think in some senses. It is like the whole not living in our fierce thing back in the playoffs then punting on what fourth in one when the steelers were storming back in that game against the cleveland browns and a of halton momentum on what could have been monumental comeback. Yeah that sucked. But mike tomlin is still put this team in position to win year in and year out there a competitive mindset. The pittsburgh steelers are never in window now mode because they're only mode is win now. That is the pittsburgh steelers mo but yet they get pointed out until they're do To to flop each and every year mason rudolph could be the quarterback. It doesn't matter mike. Tomlin can get the most out of his team and get them passed a winning record. Sure a winning record isn't the ultimate goal in the nfl. Lombardi is but the pittsburgh steelers on a team. That's just going to roll over and loose. That's not them this. This unit. This team under mike tomlin is going to win and push for championship. Each and every single year does that. Mean they don't get a top ten freaking nature pick. Yeah guess what. They haven't done that in a very long time. They had a trade up for devon bush at number ten and he wasn't healthy last year. He tours. acl so they're freaking nature pick. They're finally getting back this year. So that's another reason to be high on this team past the coaching staff. The injured guys coming back or substantial. Remember joe haden play the playoff game because a cova and speaking of covert regardless think of the vaccine the teams that have more fully vaccinated. Players will be at a significant advantages here. Because they don't have to test they don't have to miss time without having it and the pittsburgh steelers by all means by what the reports are coming out right now have the highest rate in the nfl. Pittsburgh steelers are at a significant advantage compared to a lot of teams and they're still a handful that don't have half the roster fully vaccinated regardless if that happens or not as steeler fans. You can expect your players your favorite players to be on the field each and every week because they bought into what the coaching staff is telling them..
