"That we sheet pointing to pit Is one of the best teams. I went six and five last year five and five in conference there, one of the best teams that's going to be the wind that gets clumps on the map because I remember for years ago when Pat Narduzzi and the Panthers went into Death Valley and one on that walk off field goal. Back in 2016. Let's reference a game from five years ago. That barely anyone remembers. On their way to Clemson did win the title that year. But, hey, remember that game five years ago head pit that they can win? They almost could win, but that's going to be the that's gonna be the game. The Pitt Panthers are going to be the game on Clemson schedule that gets them back into Cloud contention. That's going to be the wind that people point to and say, Yeah, Clemson beat pit put them back in the playoff. No. Because of Clemson's best win is pet. You know where that ranks among the rest of the cultural applied contender in terms of impressive which dead last What are we doing here? Again. You have to kind of convince yourself one way or another. Now your team still the chance and for chance. His trying to convince himself is that hey, pits pit beat comes in a few years ago. So that means there are still really good team. Despite the fact that this happened five years ago, and that wind is going to really put Clemson and be the Marquis winner, they need to get back in the playoffs. When Alabama just smoked Miami, playing at Texas A and M in a few weeks, um, playing most likely Georgia in the SEC title game, if you're Georgia Just a big win over number three Clemson neutral site. The rest of the schedule is very manageable, where the dog should not drop one game go to the SC. Touting when they play Alabama, Ohio State they're hosting Oregon this week. They play pence a in a few weeks. Oklahoma playing Iowa State. Playing Texas. Like. Yeah, All those all those big games we just talked about. All those winds do do pale in comparison to Clemson, beating pet Look, man, I mean to me. I just think chance of my argument for me if you're looking at the pit panthers as the reason Why,.

"I'm going to stop playing the sound clips. Okay kate memphis versus ucf ucf seven and a half point favorite clemson minus seventeen and a half on the road against pitt dan. Your pitt panthers see notre dame's also week eight nova three point. Home favourite michigan favored by nine and a half against your northwestern wildcats indiana an eleven point home dog against ohio state and iowa state favored by ten and a half against oklahoma state. The and six games here. Nice little six pack of interesting games and we'll so this is really getting into just like overarching gut about these teams by week eight. There's so much data. So this is just like i am positive so this is why you've what did you call this. I might be crazy but y'all so this is your planting a flag on this back. Half of these. These spreads. So i plan to clemson flag here because i know that they somehow figured out what pit was doing offensively and defensively and they did they go thirty one. Nothing against pitt last year in like a quarter and a half something like that. they did So that's the the flag i'm planning. That clemson has something. I don't know if it's a you know. Wikileaks kind of situation. But i don't know clemson was all sorts of good they. They were on top of things against the panthers you know. I don't have any strong opinion again about gus in. Ucf all these new coaching staffs like. It's i don't. I just can't plant a flag so i'm gonna go with clemson here. Yeah i pu boy. I didn't really know what to do. So i highlighted pit because it's interesting to me. I might be crazy if i bet pit this far in advance shore seventeen and a half big number number. Don't know what it is going to have but it's interesting. I'm sure we'll be talking about it in a week. Eight the indiana game is also interesting to me now again week eight. We're halfway through the season. These teams are set any issues. That ohio state might have trying to break in a new quarterback at this point. My guess is they're going to be solved. But indiana indiana plays these types of games really. Well they are a worthy opponent in a situation like this where they're a double digit home. Dog i would expect that they will be up for a game like this. And so my first thought. Here was indiana suspecting indiana who up for the ohio state game. I i am suspecting. Detective reveal my sources or methods but okay indiana's could be juiced up for that game. That was my first lean. The second lien was michigan minus nine and a half it s not really based on much of anything but that feels like an abnormally high wind to me and you know it goes both ways right. So you're saying you like northwestern in ann arbor. Now i'm saying i kind of like michigan because it's so abnormal. You think fan duel know something that we don't which is probably true but yeah you know it goes both ways. It's either too low and suspiciously so or too high. And then you just got to steer into it and that nine and a half me feels like maybe it's artificially high so again. This is rampant speculation in early july about week eight lines so take it with a grain of salt but just looking at over a cursory glance nine and a half feels high to me. Yeah i mean. I think it's a fair assumption. That northwestern year in and year out is going to put in is going to feel the defense somewhere between pretty good and excellent. Last year's happened to be excellent and michigan's offense happened to be a mess. Northwestern won their division. Michigan was far from winning their division. Now there are changes. there are shifts. Whatever i i think. That's a big number. That's that was the other one. I was looking at just taking northwestern now. Northwestern's offense was historically inept. Two years ago last year they were merely bad with the indiana transfer. Right that's where what's his name came from. I've already forgotten names from toy peyton ramsey when it was too i They merely went from historically inept too bad. So i don't know if that improves. They did make a change offensive coordinator last year. So you know maybe. The trajectory is improving. But i think i'm just gonna go with north western their power to pick. I took a clemson then that week week. Nine we've got the florida georgia game. Georgia is eight point favorite again neutral cider Florida state is a twenty seven point dog on the road at clemson michigan minus six on the road against michigan state penn state a eleven and a half point dog while on the road at ohio state and texas minus seven. And a half against baylor in gotta lean here. Yeah i think i'm gonna go baylor which is such a dumb way to say that name. I'm gonna go baylor here. I you know. I need to see something. I like my gear sick. But i i need to see probably. Is it sicker. Sich to your it is sich. Yes i've heard both. And i just didn't put in the work to look up his name specifically before the show. Okay i i like him. I don't like elements of the penn. State offense i. I just don't have inklings that michigan state's offense is going to dramatically improve to the point that it'll make me feel better about them at home as dogs. It's a big number of clemson but understandably so given recent history. Yeah i'm gonna take baylor. i'm going to. I'm going to bet on grimes. I'm going to bet on the change to that offense home dog with the defense. I really like. I don't know if i really hope he goes by abu eka instead of siaka the transfer from lsu the mammoth defensive tackle who now rejoins dave aranda and baylor. And we'll be anchoring their defensive line. I just i liked the combination of baylor. Overhauling things on offense as a home dog here. I don't know which direction ago. I initially highlighted penn state but there are elements that team that i don't like either. I just don't have a lean here. Maybe georgia minus eight. That's a lower number. I'll take that. One i guess but you know you look at clemson minus twenty seven points and immediately think. Oh my god. That's ridiculous but they could win that game by twenty six points. Michigan michigan state feels like too much of a toss up to me and the texas baylor thing. I've already taken texas too. Many times. And i was not a baylor fan last year. Sort of a nightmare. Hopefully if you if you love texas like it appears you do your obviously free to go back on all of this. Once preview the big twelve watch more texas. Maybe watch more sarker peak. Wikowsky whatever you want. I won't hold it against you that much but if you love taxes and you believe that this is what week nine. Your love indicates that you think texas will be somewhat of a big twelve player by this point and conventional wisdom also states that there's a good chance iowa state would be a big twelve player at this point given what they return accomplish last year they play the following week so it is a look ahead spot perhaps for texas going.

"Now what you guys got gone. Yeah so you know i got. I was head of sports and entertainment for media. Calm during the Calvin and i got furloughed and trying to decide what i was going to do next. And and rick. Most of the time i chased titles and corporate jobs but this time was different i was going to base it on a relationship so i got a phone call from a friend that says hey to. Ceo's looking for somebody just like you call them. I did opportunity. I call them our first. Two phone calls are about the relationship. I wanted him to know about me and vice versa. Once we got through that was set the table for what the company actually did which is fierce conversations. He and i had one hard conversation. That i thought was going to be hard conversation that was about money and my agreement and my contract wasn't conversation. There was no negotiation. Because he knew where i was coming from so he said charles you got it. Let's just move forward now. There's conversations which i did not know is all about having the hard discussions if you think about this in your business life and your personal life. If you don't have the hard conversation you are destined for negative impact. If you don't have it if you do have it. It gives you an opportunity for a positive impact so as i began to work with fears on understanding how effective communication impacts the bottom line to corporations and how they then using effective Effective communications to increase their revenues. I began to understand in corporate business. If you don't have the hard conversation you you create a toxic environment. You create a bad culture. Seventy three percent of employees. Don't trust their boss. It's untrusting environment when you have the hard conversations with confrontation and everything. You begin to create a better environment which does not waste time. Which then makes money now. Has i was doing that with fares and my training. I began to see how effective communications is actually the bottom line so wins and losses in sports. I look back at all the conversations. I didn't have with. Patrick ewing with david robinson pat riley with gregg popovich and so on don nelson. That was the between wins and losses. Because you know what. If i would have had that conversation and i had the tools to have that conversation it would have impacted how i played and it would impacted my relationship with them in a positive way. But because i didn't we had negative outputs when what about all the international players that are in the nba. In those locker rooms were american. Players are telling jokes defendant international players. And they don't say anything but you're playing out there on the floor you gotta be able to have those hard conversations to get a positive impact. So i know that it's a difference between wins. Losses in stores is charles smith very well said the olympian the all american and the greatest player in the history of the pitt panther program of course uh at great player in the nba fierce conversations. Inc check it out. charles. I got an a million more questions for you. So let's talk again sometime. I appreciate it men. Invite me back anytime. I appreciate you having me on all right. Great stuff charles smith everybody. I'm rick that.

Curtis who are your teams. And who are your favorite players back when you were a kid but you know i didn't grow up being quite a football fan you know. I didn't i. It took me a long time to actually like for buying joy playing football in gym class and things like that. But i was never really a huge football fan okay. That's the one person. I did like one person i see it and it was more so for his character when i did watch. His to. Nasty was walter payton. That was that was. That was the closest i was to be in a fan title. Well you picked a goodwin. Curtis that's for sure. Now it's documented. When i went through a bio of yours to put it mildly. You face some tough situations as a youngster. Some adversity what did this adversity. Teach you Well number one. It taught me that the versity has to define me. you know. I know that a lot of my friends are family members They became a victim of the adversely and As a result many of them are unfortunately did or jail or something really bad has happened to them and So if i taught me to you know. I know that wouldn't be who i am without it Some of the things that i've been through and i saw as a young kid. I don't think kids should have to see. I don't think anyone should have to see. The kid are adult but Having gone through those things. When i back i wouldn't take it back Not one bit. Because i really appreciate the way. I've learnt overcome adversity. And the way i've learned to confront things and deal with things in life and it's made me the man who i am today. It's made you a very strong individual. That's certainly right. Curtis now you had many offers on the collegiate level but you decided to stay close to home and become a pitt panther correct. Yes yeah yeah. And that was mainly because like i said. I didn't really wanna play football. I i ended up really having a good senior year and got recruited to a lot of different places. And because i really wanna go. I just figured you know pittsburgh would be the you know the the the path of least resistance for me. Because i didn't necessarily think that i would make it through a full collegiate career. Yeah understood curtis but you have the option at one point to play one more season at pittsburgh or enter the draft. You chose that Analysts said that if you stayed that other year at pittsburgh and were free of injuries you probably would have been a first round selection..
