Gavin Newsom 2024?

"Might be a spirited Democrat primary. However, I think that there is a good chance that Gavin Newsom will run for office and will become the nominee Gavin Newsom raises buckets of money. He is unfortunately very well liked by the kind of donors of the Democrat party. He's more articulate than not, even though when you listen to him in some of these tapes, he thinks he's super smart. He thinks he's super profound. He's been taking acting classes. You could tell from DiCaprio and Brad Pitt with the pregnant pauses and the elongated, let's just say, focus on certain words, very dramatic. And so let's just focus on Gavin Newsom for a second because Gavin Newsom made a very interesting comment over the weekend where he decided to use his platform his interview at the Texas tribune event. I think that's the name of the event. Texas tribune event, Ted Cruz is there Hillary Clinton was there. Gavin Newsom was there. Liz Cheney was there. And some people said, oh, why was Ted Cruz there? I don't like that he was there. No, he got interviewed. It was an interview format. The Texas tribune far left wing rag. They actually did a pretty good job of interviewing Liz Cheney and as an appropriate follow-up question. And then they had some sort of duck doing activists that I think fills in for Rachel maddow now, interviewing Gavin Newsom. Gavin Newsom has a cult like following amongst, let's just say upper middle class, not very happy suburban women. Upper middle class not very happy suburban women are big fans of Gavin Newsom. They find them comforting, confident, they like his directional leadership. The polls reflected, I've heard it firsthand. It's weird, it's bizarre, it's perplexing. We don't have to fixate on it too much. But Gavin Newsom is able to raise a lot of money, the media loves him. He's not totally stupid or dumb. I don't think he's as articulate as he thinks he is, because I don't think he's ever had to go up against a true rigor of a Republican opposition. So I just think his muscles are not really built for a four quarter fight or a 13, 14, 15 round boxing match, if you will. I don't think Gavin Newsom will be able to withstand the conservative media such as this program, Ben Tucker and others going after him because he's been nothing but lauded and praised that his entire life from mayor of San Francisco eventually to become governor of California.

Did Harry Styles Spit in Chris Pine's Lap?

"The big story today, for real, did Harry Styles actually spit at Chris Pine during their premiere of their film, don't worry darling. At the Venice Film Festival. I can't believe all this juicy, I can't believe all this juice this little film is getting. And by juice, I mean PR. So there's this video circulating everywhere and stories about this night all over the newspapers and websites, et cetera. Harry Styles, who's finally wearing men's clothing, even though the shirt collar was way too big, looks like the ones that the clowns used to wear at bottom and belly circus, which I saw as a kid. Way too big, but I don't know it's in anymore. You know, I mean, can guys even tuck their shirts it anymore? And I mean, can they tuck their shirts into this skirt? Because men are now wearing skirts so much, you know, Oscar Isaac, Brad Pitt, more and more guys are wearing skirts. So I don't know what the etiquette is, but so he gets to his seat. And he's waving along to his adoring crowd, and as he sits, he turns to Chris Pine, Chris my staring straight ahead and clapping slowly, and people say he spits in his lap. And is this happens, Chris Pine is in mid clap, and then he stops and he kind of stares off into space. Personally, I didn't see any saliva. You know, my eyes aren't great, but even with my glasses on, I couldn't see really anything flat of his mouth that would have been gross. But that didn't stop this dumb little nothing of a nugget spread like wildfire.

Angelina Jolie Is Searching for Something New Against Brad Pitt

"Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. I mean, the news that's coming out about these two. Angelina Jolie is desperately trying to find something new. In this ongoing fight with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, after she, you know, allegedly is suing the FBI for records that she already had. She's believed to have filed suit against the FBI back in April. Anonymously, by the way, as Jane Doe means she's fucking nuts this chick. Has she requested documents related to this investigation concerning Brad Pitt, reportedly in a bid to find out why no criminal charges were brought against him following with his 2016 airplane flight that led to her falling for divorce. Just trust me, one airplane flight doesn't make someone file for divorce. Okay? And I've seen the papers, you know, and it shows that the assistant United States attorney and the assistant U.S. chief of criminal division discussed this case back in 2017 before a decision was reached not to proceed with charges against Brad Pitt. And in the initial report, Angelina told official that she believed that Brad was mad from the time they boarded this private flight from nice France to America with their 6 kids, manics, hacks, zahara, Shiloh, chuckles, fuck face, and indigo. I'm kidding, but these names are insane.

"To daily pop today on the show. You gotta hear the secret. We uncovered about Brad Pitt. Plus, how Kim and Pete are really doing after their split. Plus, we celebrate the life of Olivia Newton-John. Welcome back to the show. Adam rapine. And my girl Carmen Electra. Oh God, look it's so nice and the black and the white. And look at you. Where in the color I always want to wear, but it just doesn't work with my skin. Oh, you can wear anything, Carl. I mean, you just look straight and I love that little bun. Anyway. Thank you. You know, I love talking about my boo boo Brad Pitt. Well, we just learned that he has a secret Hollywood list and you don't want to be on it. Brad's bullet train costar, Aaron Taylor, Johnson, revealed this scoop, telling variety, quote, Brad just wants to bring light and joy into the world and be around people who are there to have a good time. You work with many actors and after a while, you start making notes. I'm definitely not working with this person ever again. Brad has this list too. The good list and the itch list. Oh, who do y'all think is on that ish list? I wanna know who's on it, but also could you imagine if you think like, oh my God, Brad and I we totally hit it. And then you're on the list. You're not a first person. I thought about. Who? Interview from a vampire, Tom Cruise. They've never been in another movie since then. Oh. That's true. That's a great observation. Also, Harrison Ford, he was in one movie with Harrison Ford, and never been in another one. Of course, Angelina Jolie, his ex, you know? I'd imagine that. She's probably on that list. Yeah, yeah. So it's quite a few, you know? But do you have a list Carmen? You don't want to know more than that. Listen, I'm not breathing. I can understand. Why?

"Our mister black? Yes, I am. You have the money. The $50,000. That's what was agreed upon. Osbourne Cox. All right, let me explain something to you, mister black. You know who I am, I know who you were. Correct. But appearances. Can be deceptive. What you can't see just by listening to that is pits narrowing of his eyes trying to look intimidating. Actually, I don't know what Chad is trying to do there, but for some reason, Adam, this is like a purposeful tick. He gives Chad feltheimer. Yes. A very purposeful take of narrowing these eyes as he's threatened the squint as he's trying to threaten Osbourne Cox. And then they just widen an alarm. What do you realize is he's so in over his head. So much great physical comedy here, in addition to the line readings that he gives. Now this non obvious pick by me did get some support on social on Twitter heard from at Cameron hayner. It's got to be burn after reading. Meathead Brad's storyline is so fun and Pitt and mcdormand as work friends. It's just so good. I do love the chemistry between them. I think they're a great comic team. And yeah, as I said, I kind of love every moment Pitt has in burn after reading. I've said it several times. Very high on my need to revisit list, especially as it's a Coen brothers film, maybe my favorite filmmaker, certainly up there with PTA, and it's a film that I didn't really go for, but then I've also said this many times, I don't always go for Coen brothers films on the first watch. I did go back and look at my notes though, Josh, and I'll give you this. I said, tit is pretty funny. Amusing. Now rewatching that scene, that squinting to look mysterious tick. It's kind of funny. I mean, it's funny the first 27 times and then maybe it wore off a little bit on me. It's still a very forced performance, but I'll give you this. The end of that scene is absolute brilliance. The schwinn line and the delivery are good. The give us the money. Dick wad delivery. His reaction to being punched is maybe the best reaction to being punched in the history of cinema. And then those final two words, the tell off of the malkovich character, it really does just escalate into comedic brilliance. See, and this is 2008, you were starting to come around. There you go. Well, I needed until 2019 to really lean into my love for Brad Pitt. And it happened with two movies. The first of which is my number two. You mentioned getting some support on social media. I must be doing something right with this pick in response to your tweet. I saw Friends of the show Mitchell Beau prey, JD Duran, Sarah Welch Larson and Brian talarico all mention major Roy McBride from James gray's ad Astra a movie about an astronaut who has daddy issues. Let's put it that way. His dad led a voyage into space, like 30 years ago, just left, was never heard from again. There's a fair amount of consternation and anger that the sun has built up over the decades and now he has to venture off into the same beyond that his dad did and try to come to terms with all of that. I'm going to quote David Ehrlich from that top 5 Brad Pitt performances. He had McBride at number four in 2019. And it's because David just absolutely nails. What I love so much about this performance in a way that I know I didn't articulate half as well in our review of this movie on the show, which I remember very vividly was a solid discussion, but it's still processing review. We came straight from the screening into the studio to talk about that film. Here's Ehrlich. He says, Pitt understands the part in his bones. And delivers a performance that weaponizes passivity into a lethal form of self defense. The actor is a vacuum unto himself, and he wears the kind of empty and contented expression that would make Tyler durden want to punch him in his perfect face. Some might think that Pitt is barely doing anything. But this is a masterful turn that only he could pull off. So you've seen the trajectory of my comments about Pitt and my appreciation for a pit over the course of this top 5, you could understand why this performance resonates with me after hearing that. Weaponizing passivity barely doing anything. Never would I have imagined that the pit of California or 12 monkeys or even oceans 11 or burn after reading would be able to pull off any kind of performance that could be accurately described that way. Let alone be mesmerizing doing it. But I really think he is. And I don't necessarily want to establish this dichotomy of acting where subtlety and restraint is on some pedestal and actors shouldn't be really bold and shouldn't be theatrical. But I do think there's real talent Josh and a real art to giving a performance like Roy McBride, where you are being incredibly passive and not at all boring. This is a really thoughtful, meditative movie, but it's also one with a fair amount of action that Pitt delivers in without saying much. And he is this man who's walled himself off who fears that if he expresses any emotion that so much rage will spill out, he might as well be the hulk and Pitt Pitt I think lets you see that. I think the real trick of this performance is that that rage is always just underneath as passive as it might be as detached as he might seem. It's always there and the scene where he finally does express his feelings. He goes

If you know what film, we just massacred emailed the movie's title along with your name and location to feedback at film spotting. The deadline is Monday, August 15th. The winner will be selected randomly from all the correct entries and announced in a couple of weeks. Oh my God. Do you know what time it is? So I couldn't call you when you're totally unsecured, but I don't know the guy is. The guy? The guy, the secret guy. So is he high up? Uh, I don't know if he's hot. Probably. I mean, I got his name, not his rank. So what's his name? Odds born Cox. We get back into our top 5 Brad Pitt performances with that clip from the Coen brothers burn after reading. Pit there with Francis mcdormand. Yes, I have Chad feltheimer from burn after reading at number two. Pitts turned into Coen brothers pitch black spy comedy. It may not be his most definitive performance. It's not even a lead, but for me, it might be my favorite. Might just be my flat out favorite. If you said, you're watching Brad Pitt tonight. What are you going to choose? I would go with Bern after reading. I think it's as funny as by far there's a good dose of knowing self parody in this, but also just enough of that smile and Chad to let us know he could crank up that star wattage at any moment if he wanted. I actually think the joy and the performance is that he doesn't want to. You know that pit doesn't want to. He's happy to just be playing this doofus. Now Chad is just one cog with frosted hair, mind you. In the Coens complicated spy plot. He's a personal trainer who comes across a CD at the gym where he works. Then he and fellow trainer Francis mcdormand, they think it contains sensitive government information so they kick off this ill advised blackmailing plot. Among many golden moments is this exchange between Chad and Osborne Cox, the government agent, they're trying to blackmail played by John Malkovich. Osbourne Cox. And you

"Bullet train, which opens in wide release this weekend. It stars Brad Pitt alongside Brian Tyree Henry, zazie Bates and Michael Shannon. It's directed by David leitch, whose credits include Deadpool two, Fast & Furious presents Hobbs & Shaw, pretty good. And atomic bond with Charlize Theron, he also co directed John Wick. Bullet trains premise. Pitts assassin is determined to do his job peacefully after one too many gigs have and I am not reading the pun that Sam put in our notes here. Nice try to entrap me, Sam, it's not gonna work. Fate, however, has other plans, Adam. Of course, I was intrigued by this Debbie's quite upset. We didn't get to see it yet. I was also a little the trailer seemed like it might have been a little, you know, that old nihilistic violence, but let's to the head is punch lines sort of thing. But that cast looked awfully good, is it worth it for the cast alone? I have to say yes, at least with a mild recommendation, Josh. I mean, it's not like I was dying to see bullet train by decision to see it was driven by the fact that we were devoting a show to pit and I had a night free on my schedule. I wasn't overly enticed by the trailers I saw. I have to start by saying, I believe it was Chekhov, who once said one must never place a poisonous snake on a train if it isn't going to bite someone or a plane. Yeah, or a plane, and there are times where this feels like the corollary snakes on a train to that Samuel L. Jackson film. But David leitch does have some cache, depending on who you ask, post wick at his best. There's an audacity to his direction that can be invigorating when combined with his tempo and technical proficiency and a very game movie star, which he has here. And my curiosity, what curiosity I had about the film, was really based around my track record with Pitt, which we've touched on a little bit here through our top 5, which is when he leans in to a character and overplays it, especially when he leans into silliness or the overt comedy of a character and a scenario. And I saw that trailer and I saw the glasses and I saw the hat and I saw the goofy grin on his face and I got a little bit nervous. But this is a really solid pit performance. And me who maybe have had some trepidations about Pitt shouldn't worry. The word that I keep seeing associated with this movie on letterboxed is smug. And maybe I'd agree if I dove into some of those reviews and entertain their arguments, which I haven't yet, but that wasn't my experience with bullet train, Josh. It's self satisfied, absolutely. But that doesn't seem the same to me as smug, where you feel like the people involved, maybe I'll have a certain level of contempt for the material and their audience. I think leech and Pitt and everybody here has no other agenda than to entertain. It never totally pulls off its balance of cartoonish violence and pathos, all of its action derives from a young boy in peril and it likes to hit that note. Again and again. I don't think tit ever makes his character who's good name as ladybug, feel like a fully realized character, he's neurotic, and that neuroses comes out again and again, but there's no sense of a real person there. But that's not his limitation. That's the material. That's not what the film is trying to do. He's actually like if Dante from clerks stepped into the John Wick universe, crossed with a roadrunner episode. He's not even supposed to be on this train. He's just filling in for another hired gun. He's trying to turn over a new leaf and finally achieve some kind of peace. And Pitt is compelling and so mature, now is an actor that while there's nothing at all profound about the material, he gives it just a little bit of that through his conviction to the material. And the fun that he's having on screen. The movie spends a lot of time talking about fate and how everything's interconnected and there's no accidents and pits ladybug in his own way is trying to defy that. He's trying to prove that he can exert his own will and be this new man that he wants to be. Or maybe he can't, but he's trying the movie doesn't really go any deeper than that. And thanks to Pitt. It doesn't need to. Plus, I do really like Brian Tyree Henry. There's a really fun sequence with him and Pitt fighting in a quiet car. This is a universe where no rules seem to apply whatsoever. That's in the trailer and it did make me laugh. And it's hilarious then when you watch characters actually be constrained by absurd rules of society in this otherwise, as I said, cartoon world. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is really good with Brian Tyree Henry. They're certainly a pair of Joey King is fun. So you had to go back to answer your question. I think the cast largely is the reason why I did have as much fun with bullet train as I did. All right, I'll report back to Debbie. We have a date night plan, but no specific plans. So maybe I'll end up catching it. It does open this weekend bullet train will be in wide release. Looking ahead to next week, we're going to return to our summer of stanwyck marathon and talk about her 1941 film meet John Doe. This one directed by Frank Capra and costarring Gary Cooper. We're not sure yet, Adam, what we're going to be pairing that with a lot of suggestions have been thrown out there by producers, Sam, a love song with Dale Dickey and Wes Studi. Also, a predator prequel prey, nobody told me this. Is this really a possibility? I mean, you go to one bullet train, press screening, and now you're willing to go see prey, a predator prequel. What strange to do world excited world by living in?

"About you and I be honest about what each of us want out of this? He never loses his cool. He doesn't ultimately try to embarrass David justice, even though he calls him out. Because he does need him, and he doesn't need to exert his dominance in performative ways. This is pit at his most subtly assertive. Yeah, it's by far his most understated performance, incredibly strong. I think it's even filmed. This way, I don't recall a ton of tight focused close ups on him on his face, and he does great work. It's almost more drained of star charisma than Jesse James, in a way, all in service of how the story should be. While still imbuing the character with the authority he needs. You know, as an athlete, bringing that element to the conversation. So it's a really good one. And I think it stands out on his filmography. Glad it made your list. I'm going to step away to make a sandwich so I can eat it while we share our top two picks. How dare I also tell us what Brad Pitt ate during bullet train. Stay with us. "2011 was the breakthrough year and that's because about three months after the tree of life, we got his Billy bean in Moneyball. And this to me, I love your dichotomy. It's certainly the thing I examine two when putting together this list that sense of the clash between the physical and the cerebral and I really think it comes together finally and fully in Moneyball. And I'm going to talk about the physicality despite the fact that he's playing a baseball GM and it's not like there's a lot of action scenes here or anything, but I still think it's crucial to this performance and this film. This is where I finally felt like Pitt was 100% comfortable in his skin on screen. And I think what I mean by that is what you were saying, Josh, in that it's not just that he's a physical presence, but it's that he feels confident enough to allow in some of that intellectual side. To be able to actually embody and inhabit a character who has a cerebral aspect to them without losing that physicality at all. And here he's playing a man in Billy Beane, who, as neurotic at times as he is, as troubled as he is in terms of his desperation to win and some of the sacrifices that he makes, there is a confidence and there is a charisma that he exhibits in every scene. And I don't know what Billy bean is like in real life. I've seen an interview or two with him. I have no idea if Pitt really is doing an imitation of the man or not. But this felt to me for the first time like Pitt was playing himself that he didn't feel the need to hide behind any of those character ticks or affectations or accents or fixations. And the irony here I'm going to acknowledge it is that you can Google this, Josh. There is a clip on YouTube called Brad Pitt eating, hitting and spitting in Moneyball. It's still a major aspect of this character, okay? He hasn't shed it completely. Maybe he liked playing Billy bean so much because as a baseball GM and former player, he knew that he'd get to eat sunflower seeds and chew tobacco and spit the entire movie and everyone would say, well, that's just natural. That's what that's what former ball players do. But that's not the pit or the aspects of Pitt's performance. I focus on when I think about Moneyball. And I'll see this too, Josh. In my initial review of it, which I like the movie, but I didn't go forward the way I do now when I rewatch it. I said I didn't think it had any great scenes. Any really, truly memorable scenes. And that's so dumb now more than ten years later because I watched scenes for Moneyball all the time. The scouting meetings. And the choices he makes there which here again take a shot every time we say the word physical, they are physically based, but they're still done with a certain restraint. He is getting more and more dismayed with the scouts and their takes on these ballplayers and their approach. To baseball and at one point, he has to get a marker out to put a name up on the board and he bites it off. He bites the cap off and spits it out and then starts writing or when Jonah Hill's over in the corner and he points and kind of snaps at him at the same time and he'll says, do you want me to speak? And he says, when I point at you, yes, and he points at him every time he needs the answer. Those are bold choices in those moments that I really enjoy. And the scene all single out here isn't one of the more memorable ones in terms of the plot or the story or the witty dialog, but it does really display what I love so much about the performance and it's when he confronts David justice in the batting cage. His posture. There is no hint of feeling unequipped to have a conversation with this former all star David justice about how he should be helping the team win. There is no intimidation whatsoever. And David justice tries to intimidate him. He says something to him like, I've never seen a GM talk to players the way you do. And being immediately fires back, you've never seen a GM that was a player. And justice goes, huh. And just kind of smirks. He totally tries to dismiss him, and this is one of the things the whole movie's about. The Billy never made it as a player in the big leagues, that he's trying to find a better way to draft and develop and measure talent because of his own failure as a player. And David just is basically punches him in the gut there, but what does Billy do and how does pit perform it? He steps into it. Literally, he steps forward, just takes a step forward, closer to the batting cage and quietly says. We got a problem,

"To be here. Don't let anyone tell you there's anything you can't do. Don't do like I do. Promise me that. Dream to be in a great musician. I let myself get sidetracked. Are you looking for something to happen? That was it. That was luck. Lived it. Yeah, you're making me think I should have had it higher up. It is crucial, as we've discussed. And I think if I'm remembering it correctly, that back piece is also used here. So it's this connective tissue of you can imagine that plane in his son's head as he's negotiating the tension you're describing. How fire can I get away? You can imagine I'm hearing that Oregon in the background just bearing down on him as well. All right, we're going to go to a far lighter performance for my number three and prepare yourself Adam. There will be talk of eating here. Ryan, from oceans 11. I mean, I did talk about pit being comfortable in the tree of life, but has any star. Been more comfortable on screen than Pitt is here. Playing George Clooney's right hand. Man, this is partially what all the eating is about. It's fascinating to me that you are so bothered by it, does it, do you get bothered? Like, can you hear someone chewing from across the room? 'cause I don't have that, but I know people who do. I am one of those people who do. Do you have that? Yeah, I am. Absolutely. That's got to be part of repetition of noises like that. And physical acts, even if they're sometimes quiet, the sheer repetition of it is often too much for me. All right, and I get that and obviously chewing is related. Maybe that's part of it. But I think here a little bit of what pit is doing. I mean, again, it's the physicality is one aspect. Eating is very physical. I feel like this is an actor who always needs to be doing something physical, unless, as we talked about in Jesse James, he's draining that out of the performance. But mostly it's like he needs that. And also not everyone wants to eat on screen. It gets messy. You can look silly. It's almost like a power play. Pit doing this, knowing I'm even going to be able to make this sexy and charming too. And also a slightly goofy, but I'm going to get away with it. I am so much Brad Pitt. I can do even this. Now, a more important question about than the eating. What other movie star can you imagine? I tried to think of some. Could pull off plane the sidekick to, in this context, at least a quote unquote bigger star, yet still be a star, not a character, like he does in 12 monkeys, you know, he is a bit part there playing a character. He's not the star. But what's unique about rusty Ryan in the Ocean's Eleven movies is that he's still a star, but he's not the star. He's not stepping on Clooney's toes, but he doesn't need to dim his own star quality. I was thinking about Tom Cruise, could Tom Cruise do a part like this. Maybe he could, but it's hard for me to imagine Magnolia came to mind, you know, because that's a supporting part, but he sort of had his own short film to work within. In Magnolia. So I don't know if that's a good correlation. Maybe there's another star that might be able to do this. But I do think it's unique to pit. Bonus in oceans 11. We get a Brad Pitt acting lesson when rusty is telling Matt Damon how to play a part for the heist. No good. Don't touch your tie. Look at me. Okay. I ask you a question. You have to think of the answer. Where do you look? No good. You look down, they know you're lying. And up, they know you don't know the truth. Don't you 7 words when four will do. Don't shift your weight. Look always at your mark, but don't stare. The specific, but not memorable. Be funny, but don't make him laugh. He's gotta like you, and then forget you. The moment you've left his son. And for God's sake, whatever you do, don't, under any circumstances. Yeah. Can you take a look at this? Sure. The only difference between rusty's advice and pits acting is that we're always going to remember Brad Pitt. It's hard to have him. There may be a pick, we'll talk about this coming up on your list, I think. If you went the way I think you went, that he's not forgettable, but he's downplaying things to a degree, but usually we're going to remember Brad Pitt, right? So that's a distinction there. But otherwise, I think the advice he gives here applies to pits acting as well. What's funny about that scene that you included is that I watch it and I see how good Matt Damon isn't it. That moment he is, of course. And they can both be good. But that moment where he's getting the acting lesson, it would be so easy to underplay or overplay that or not be as precise as Damon is, but he nails every single thing naturally that he's not supposed to do. He gets called out on. So I actually think Damon's really remarkable. I like what you said. I agree that there is a power play aspect to rusty that potentially justifies the constant eating. But I will just counter and say that my perception and my experience with Pitt up until about 2011 because of performances like this. And I have come to really love this movie and I've come to appreciate pit more in it though I mostly appreciate the pattern and that chemistry between him and Clooney and the writing is that you said he always needed to be doing something. Well, I felt like he always needed to be doing something because he wasn't confident enough as a performer to be still on screen. Equated busyness with character. And watching that scene, even again, even as much as I love this film. And as much as I said, I've really come around on tit as an actor. I rewatch that clip and I see the oral fixation. I see the affectation of it that feels like a holdover from that earlier busier approach to acting. And I still feel like he's an actor performing those lines. I really do watching Pitt. I don't, I don't sense the character I sense Pitt acting. Well, I mean, rusty Ryan is a movie star. Like that's. He's a real-life movie star. So it's kind of hard to make that distinction in some ways. That's why it should even be more effortless. And I think it is. I think he's just living on that screen that way. And the other thing I'd remember is you're talking is how about the scene where he doesn't do anything at all, a great one with Clooney. I think they're talking about how many men they need for a job for the job or something like that. And pits in the foreground, leaning on the bar towards the camera, Clooney's behind him. Pitt doesn't say a thing or move and Clooney is just saying like, do you think we need four guys? Nothing. It doesn't move. It doesn't say anything. And then he's like, yeah, 5. We probably need 5. And then I'm not going to try to do it because I'll mess it up. But basically, it's the stillness pit has there that makes that scene work. So yeah, I'm going to stick with rusty Ryan. I get it.

"Was it? Bob's the expert. Let's put it to hand. And you realize that he's just playing with him. He's not really having a conversation with this man. He doesn't even see Robert Ford as a man who deserves. Such a conversation. And even as he's putting him down, you still see in Pitts Jesse James, a man who is unsophisticated. There's a real willingness on Pitts part to not glamorize this character at all to strip away the grandiosity, to strip away the myth, but you still understand because it's pit why so many men project their wants and their needs and their dreams onto him. I think that's the trick of that role. And I'll close with this. David Ehrlich did his top ten performances for IndieWire back in 2019. And he said this about a man that just might come up. Here later, Pitt allowed the role. This is Tyler durden in Fight Club to metastasize into a caricature of everything that men thought and maybe still think they wanted to be. And that's exactly what someone playing Tyler durden needs to do. And someone playing this Jesse James character has to do exactly the opposite. Reject any of those notions of not only going into the realm of caricature, but even trying to embody that sense of what men really want to be. And then think they should be. Pit plays none of that. Have you ever can't stars? I can't ever get the same number. I keep changing them. I don't even know what a star is, exactly. There your body knows.

Zita says she has chemistry with Timmy, but things he's found someone who's more his type. He's in the pickle. He loves pickles. Honestly. So why? On the pickle kids. I will say these kind of shows always give me such anxiety. I can't imagine living it in that moment because it is hard to tell someone, hey, I'm having feelings for someone and it's not you. That's hard. Yeah, but that's what it's about. That's what we want. We want that to be multi day. If you multi date, you can figure out who you, especially with them at this age, they don't really know what they want. So you should come out with the dating app. I would totally subscribe to it. Really? Lonnie loves Lonnie loves multi date. Come on. It's in her name. Yes. But I think people don't get to know each other. I mean, yes, you know, look, there have been times when my younger years, that I would date, and I would base it on how they looked. Yes. And I've had some good times. Based on how they look. Okay, I'm reading into that, got it, noted. But then in the morning, you wake up, you had a conversation. Yeah. Yeah. It's like you have to get to know if you're talking about I want to have a meaningful relationship. If it's a hookup, that's something different. But if you're saying I want to have a meaningful relationship, these kids, you got to get to know people, you know, in that base, everything on physical. And I have met some really beautiful men. Yes, come all day. Very ugly. That is so true. Someone can look so gorgeous. Traditionally attractive. And then you can get to know them, and that all fades away. You don't see it anymore. Because of the personality or there's things about them, you're like, I was so unkind. Now you're not as pretty as I thought you were. And the opposite is true too. Who's not who initially you're not like, oh wow, what a looker. Ends up being gorgeous and beautiful just by the way they make you feel and the way they are. Well, you know, the person that's beautiful and gorgeous. Brad Pitt. Yes. 'cause it's Brad Pitt. "He was in such a great move. He was the energy of that. I haven't seen a red carpet like that since before COVID. Wow. I mean, they pulled out all stops. It was a huge red carpet, but to get this interview franny, you did your job. You know, I talked to her right before, but let's talk about his look. Yes. Because I thought he was going to come up with a skirt, so I had to pull up. Hold on. Yes. Yes, honey. I will talk about that in a minute. But let's look at this look. He had on this mint green linen suit. It's just Brad Pitt day. With like a Turquoise T-shirt that an actual yellow shoes, I mean, he just looked cool. He looks comfortable. Can I throw it in another word, effortless? Yes. Even when he wore the kilt, do you remember how the fabric was sort of natural and sort of like a canvas or a linen? He is relaxed. He's giving you cool chic fashion, but like he's not trying. And I know we talk a lot about behind the scenes of when women get ready. I would like to see Brad Pitt at a styling fitting to see how he picks his stuff. I think it probably depends on his mood. And it really wouldn't matter what he was wearing, 'cause he wasn't such a good mood, like that attitude. He was just radiating. I feel like maybe he's got a new love and maybe he just got love. Because he's giving me that afterglow. You feel that? You know why? 'cause he met franny and he met me. Let me tell you what happened. Okay. Let me tell you. Okay, so that's my friend, Brian, Tyree Henry. Who is also in the movie fabulous job. So I waited. We waited two hours because the carpet was so long. Yeah. And Brad was talking to so many people, you know, and I was like waiting at the end 'cause I was like, I just wanted to see Brian. That's who I was wearing because I was like, okay, I'll take a picture with Brian. Yeah. But when I saw Brian and Brad walker together, y'all know I was like, oh, wait. How did it go? Comes by, and then what happened, so it's your friend. Ryan sees me. What's up, Larry? I take the peak with him. Okay. Brad right behind him. I was like, Brad, you want to take a picture and write the audience. Okay, big important question everyone wants to know. How did he smell? Oh. Like a fresh daisy Mitt. Oh. Yes, breath was fresh. He was, you could tell he was just in such good spirits. 'cause this is the last big premiere. Sure. And everybody was feeling good, and you know, they put it all in. He was jumping up and down. He was taking pictures with the fans. Like he said, he gave us this great interview. So it was just, it's just wonderful. I will say there's been sort of this Brad Pitt reassurance. Yes. I think he's actually hitting a stride. I think this is an upswing in his career. You know, he had a lot of personal stuff going on, and of course the pandemic, but now I think we're going to see a lot more print and I don't care how old he gets. He's forever hot. He's timeless. But this is my first time actually seeing him daisy in person 'cause you know how sometimes you look, you go, you don't look that good. Bradley. You don't call everybody full name. Bradley, will you take a picture with me? And he turned right around. He said, yeah. I was like, I'm gonna put this in. They're gonna Brian. You know, he gotta come up behind. So I had to blur his picture out when I actually do it. Yeah. Just move your faces closer, blur Bryan out. Yeah. Okay, it's a branded freaking piss. Yeah, Brad Pitt

The wealthiest county in America is loudon county, Virginia. What do you use on a daily basis? That is made in loudoun county, Virginia. Anything? What are they known for? And if they have a they'll get blown out again. Now, they won't throw them out until after Christmas. I don't think there's not enough time before Christmas. Although, William Pitt the younger was put into office in 1784 in December. They called it the mince ministry, because like mince pie it wouldn't last after Christmas, and it lasted for 19 years. So I think it was 19 years. I'm recalling from memory from Andrew Roberts book. But pit the younger was 24. So look at the 24 Jim Byron who took over the Nixon library. He might become the leader of the Conservative Party. We'll see. Jim is young. And he's great and he's smart. He's like to pick the younger of not for profits.

The Strange Death of Silent Film Star Thelma Todd

"Then we came across thelma Todd. Boy, this was a good show. I never heard of thelma Todd. Back in 1997, when I made the mysteries and scandals episode on her. She was a silent film star. That's why they called it a hot toddy. You know, a toddy is a drink. They called to the ice cream blond. She was in a 123 films and shorts throughout a 9 year career. That's it, 9 years, 9 years in a mount. And if you saw the house she bought on the Pacific Coast highway, which I did, I filmed right in front of it. Oh, it was beautiful. This long staircase off the PCH up this hill. Thelma Todd was great at slapstick comedy. She started along Wheeler and woolsey, Laurel and Hardy, and the Marx brothers. She even formed the comedy duo alongside the greatest name ever. Zazu Pitts. Alongside Pitts and Kelly, she was often cast as the level headed protagonist who had to deal with an embarrassingly did see sidekick. So in addition to her being an actress, thelma Todd was a good businesswoman. And she had a lover, that lover was the film director Roland west. They opened the restaurant called sidewalk cafe in Los Angeles, California. And they shared ownership with west white jewel Carmen. A lot of these triangles situations back then. And the three of them also lived in the same duplex above the restaurant. Get this. Sources say that Carmen didn't object to west affair with thelma Todd, even though west displayed jealousy over Todd's affairs with other men. Let's go to the morning of December 16th, 1935. 29 years old, she's found dead in her car, parked in west garage. The garage was closed, the car was running. She had a broken nose. She had two cracked ribs and bruises around her throat. And police officers said she'd been dead at least 12 hours.

"Don't you miss him not really. I didn't much like him in the first place. Terrible thing to say he's your father. Yes i suppose so. But he wasn't a very good father and he wasn't a very nice man wasn't he. I thought he brought his present or some daddy gave us the press. He might have handed them to us. But i'm pretty sure it was mom who bought them or made them. Oh dear. i didn't know that. Why didn't i know that that horrible. I should've known that i was the big sister. I was supposed to look up to you. And you did sweetheart. You really did. And you did know what he was like. You've just forgotten. don't worry about it. We all forget things. But i seem to forget more things more and more things all the time such as me i forgot have but this there is still something i i know. There was something a question i wanted to us about. Daddy he as about daddy. Why did he go. why didn't he come back. I remember now waiting and waiting and and asking mummy and she would get cross and refused me. Did so cross not good to do you know nope. I really don't. I did try to find out years later. It seems he went to america to the states. And when i was over there studying in new york. I tried to track him down. But i had no luck whatsoever. Oh that's pitt yes. He'd probably changed his name and he was a clever clogs. He was certainly capable of reinventing himself completely. If he wanted to that such a shame. I can't help wondering do you wonder. Don't you still want to no not really. I gave that up. Life's too short. He didn't care enough about us to want to know how we were anything about us. Why should we waste time wondering about him. Oh i understand that. But but what helen. Yes darling helen. Why did i stop thinking about him. After all this time. And i really did yes. I really did want to know why he wasn't coming here to see me. As if i thought i was still a young girl i was what fifteen when he left holding. You're only fourteen. And i was six and i think it was much more of a trauma for you because well because you knew him for longer. I hardly knew him a tool. He was away so much. Oh yes that's right. I thought he was such an adventure. I really wasn't surprised when he went to way. But you were devastated. When he didn't come back it's a terrible

"And they say that Kelly appears to have been catfished by one or more individuals unlawfully posing as Pitt. And it says by Kellys own emissions the communications. She now alleges to have had with mister Pitt were actually between plaintiff and one or more individuals posing as in plaintiff's worse fake proud Pittsburgh not in any way affiliated with the make it right foundation, but Kelly says she has 113 pages of organized Discovery to support her story and she says off this lawsuit is important for the country. So I will continue to fight Brad Pitt. No guys. What do you think about this? Like is this lady just delusional were these Bradshaw impersonators really looking that much like Brad Pitt was she just having Communications with them over the Internet so that it was like way easier for them to catfish her cuz I feel is definitely some probably good fake deepfakes, you know where they like put the face of Brad Pitt over there real face. I feel like that's floating around out there. It's just be fully trained. Pair it with you guys. I slurred a little bit through that last story because I had to take a break to go to dinner and then I had one too many margaritas and honestly me try and do record this at 10:41 is not my most Shining Moment, but dammit I was getting an episode up this week guys. So I hope you had fun. And of course, there's a legit shit my best choice. She does reviews of the Taylor Swift albums other albums. I've talked about it before we had her as a guest on here. She was like my very first guests when I didn't even have two microphones and the audio was complete shit off, but I love her review so much. I honestly wish I could just spend a whole episode reading at all. And it's extensive. The one this for this album for folklore is 26 pages long, but she talks about just trying to cure everything with lavender. So it really inspired me to share something that I've been loving over quarantine and I can't believe I haven't had it on here yet, and it's dr. Teal's melatonin and essential oils. Sleep foaming bath soak. It's just basically a bubble bath, but, you know, it's made by the dude who makes all those like Epsom salts, and it's super cheap. It's like five dollars at Target. I will link the targ you can get on Amazon and get at Walmart, you know, anywhere like that Walgreens Duane Reade if that's that's your Vibe, and I think it's just really relaxing and everyone should take a bath these days if you have a bath and you can do that. If not, just buy it thing and like squirt some out in your shower and just let it walked up to you again. I'm sorry. I was gone I missed you guys. I'm glad to be back and I will see you next week for Real by..

"Takes. Fierce will get ahead. This world. Hit me hit me on Sonya. He's afraid of you. Expect things lowly adult can accomplish. Just one you be strong. Be Your own man. Go such a good movie. I want oversell this but it's such a good movie. It's so beautiful. So here's my steel with this movie. My cousin who lays all these weird artistic movies Terrence Malick is a director at a note terrence. Malick was but apparently makes movies one of those guys that wakes every six years. He makes a lot of good movies. And he's Am Eric. My cousin said look at it. Look at the movie as more of a prayer or meditation and just going into my movie experiencing knowing it was going to be a little bit different than other movies. Health me appreciate the movie itself. Yeah so terrence malick. He did the thin red line. He did. The new world He did Starting to think he's done a bunch of them but I don't think you'll have heard of the other ones. He did one called To the wonder that Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams were in. But I don't think it was. As as widely received as the tree of life was. The tree of life is Brad Pitt it's you know. He's he's The star. Sean Penn and Jessica chastain who plays the mother And it was just chastain. It was the first time I saw her in movie. I think the same year she did was that movie called. It was it was a book. No that was later but it was a book that got made into a movie. I'll remember what it is but anyway I thought that tree of life had first of all. I cried a lot. It really interesting times. It was like watching. Someone's real life and and even though it was a different time it was more like the baby boomer generation right Because just to kind of give you an idea how it lays out. I can't really explain the movie fully. Because it's bigger than what's the story of a family in Waco Texas? The eldest son witnesses the loss of innocence and struggles with his parents conflicting teachings. Yeah the MOM stands for like nurturing goodness. The Brad Pitt stands for firmness. It's almost like the two like she says She starts out by saying there's two ways to life the the movie I was thinking of Jessica chastain was the help help was made into. We'll be okay. So what's great is. You're basically seeing the story through the eyes of this boy. Who is the oldest? And when he grows up he's played by Sean Penn so basically the movie opens with you realizing that one of the boys was killed in the war and Sean Penn is getting that news as you watch. His parents get the news. You Want Sean Penn. Get the news and then the bulk of the movie is about their childhood become became who they are but there's not a lot of language use. It's visuals and music and feeling and symbols and a lot of a lot of things that take quite a leap. You know where you're like. Wow what's happening right now? But it's very beautiful and todd and I have mentioned several times that and we won't ruin this everybody but that they do have it interpretation of the afterlife at the end of the movie. That really feels right on. We actually does. You can get to a movie watching experience of what heaven might be like. Yes in whatever happened means to you like they don't call it. Heaven. No they do everything visually. And so you just feel it. We talked about the lost finale on a pop culture podcast a few weeks ago and we were discussing. How that ending? The lost finale really resonated for us as much as the ending of tree of life resonated roars. And you find yourself you you you love like as far as much as you're angry at Brad Pitt. And a lot of this movies a lot of this movie. 'cause he is authoritarian meaning. He's demanding he's insisting he as you heard in that clip. He's trying to his sons how to be tough and fight. I have that right here. You WanNa they played a part of it but go ahead and play it just so so. This is what he's teaching. His bolt of his sons course covered. You're going to cover it right okay. Nice Nice Heart Nice. That's a good Riley. Your left is the most important thing commend this week to guard at Pitney. Come on hit me month. Come on Jack hit me hit me come on come on here. It is here. Come on come on. What are you doing left? Leave your tongue out. You'RE GONNA lose left right all right so this is the thing about the scene. You guys can't see what I'm looking at. But first of all he's like hitting his son and he falls to the and then he picks him up and brushes them off which is an interesting thing and I also remember watching an interview with Brad. Pitt about this movie. And he said that was some of the hardest movie-making he ever did one. Because I I know. Terrence Malick does not really give a lot at Korea graffiti. It's Kinda like the actors are left free to do what they want. So these young actors. These young boys don't exactly know what's happening and Brad Pitt. I don't remember the words he used but it said it was extremely difficult to play that scene. Yes and I think now tree of life came out in twenty eleven and I'm not quite sure where he was regarding like Angelina Jolie and how many kids they had yet but I think he was a new dad him. And so this whole idea of this dad fighting with his kids and again let me be clear. I feel a lot of empathy for Brad Pitt in this movie. I'm angry at him a lot because he is harsh but he thinks he's giving his kids what they need again. He's kind of a. He's it's the mom gives them their gentleness and their softness and reminding them to to respect nature and beauty and Brad Pitt feels like he has to toughen them up. And this is not so uncommon. Now Todd I mean this is not like. This is such a throwback and you know there is a disparity between the way they parent but I don't think that Brad Pitt loves them less. I don't you know I don't perceive that I see Brad Pitt. As a wounded yes man who had wounds from his dad from when he was a little kid and he's trying his best to evolve and it doesn't quite and he's he didn't heal. He didn't process what he needed to before he became apparent. And now he's just passing on the same pain and there is a point if I remember correctly. We haven't seen this movie in a while. But where he actually says it's when he's an old man or not an old man he's probably are a were. Goldman getting all minimum. But where when he knows his son died he feels regret. He's like why did I? It was about playing the piano remember. They had something with playing the piano and he's like why did I force him? Why did I pressure him? He's like why did I just let him be. And it's that I think that's the other thing that for both you and ice is your number one and this is my number two is I think you and I have a way of looking at the world and this reinforced and so we were like yes. This feels very true. And because it's some of its dark and we have to deal with that too. It's not a it's not all of them. It's not like everything will always work out. It doesn't but it's how we choose our moments and our days. How do we like the Jessica chastain character? I loved her so much and I also got frustrated with her because she didn't speak up but when you get mad at the dead poet's society bus but she is a woman of a certain time and she doesn't have a lot of choices either so it's like that's what I mean is that it's the same way I'm annoyed at. I'm annoyed Brad Pitt. But they didn't have the tools to do any better and I just thought it was really beautiful. I was trying to find a because united as N. parenting radio on this. We did like when it came out years ago. I know and I tried to find a good but it was really our first pop. "Read County Monte Cristo. Lately I read a little bit of it every night. I read words. Light vans lasting vange. I want you in any trouble. That's all I wish for you and your friends said nothing else. I swear four friends raised in a legacy of crime and the place for jobs running between bending idea a childhood prank resulted in an accident here by sends have no less than one year at the Wilkinson home for boys the punishment. Good yes. That's just the beginning trailer chills. So first of all is a great cast. Jason Patric Nineteen ninety-six Billy Billy Crud update driver. Dustin Hoffman. I mean that's right. Justin Hoffman. So Yeah Brad Pitt. The reason this impacted me is you know. It's one of those movies about Childhood Friends. Kind of the way stand by me. He's one of my favorite movies of all time. So that's something that was really big and it's funny. Just as I was watching that trailer I forgot the whole reason they ended up in the penitentiary was because there was just a free accident funny and it reminded me if you ever see the movie. Return to Paradise with Joaquin. That's like the worst. Most wrenching movie ever resulted from throwing a bike in the trees. Or something like that exactly and it's funny. How like the not the exact same thing but something? Horrific happened as a result of a silly little prank. Exactly know it was a hot day. You they were kind of bored. And I can't remember which one of them like kind of instigated it but they like pushed a cart. They took a cart from like a hot dog. Is something and then rolling down the stairs and hitting a guy and so anyway. I just watched the prep for this show. I just watched so first of all spoiler alert for every one of these movies. Because we're going to talk about. I WanNa talk about each one of them. They ended up killing the man to amend and up killing the man played by Kevin Bacon. Wait hold on. Because you're not even saying what happens to them in the penitentiary like so their kids their childhood friends they go to. They have parents who care about them for the most part of them do two of them not not as much and then they. They have the childhood prank. They end up in a juvenile of facility and they are molested yes and two of them are they are longer than the other two two or only one gets out early. Jason Patric Character GALAXIES REALLY SMART REMEMBER. Anyway they are all molested and then when they grow up to the kids two of them. It didn't didn't weren't really able to resolve that trauma. They end up shooting one of the guards that the main garden favorite member. That did that rape them He. He's played by Kevin. Bacon and I just watched that clip and it was awful and they just have ice in their veins because of the pain that this man inflicted on these tender young souls and so wonderful movie and it and the whole movies about Robert Deniro. And does he want to lie under oath more. Does he wants their priests. Save these kids so wonderful movie and you know. There's a big. It kind of reminds me a little bit as I think we discussed this when we talked about stand by me we brought up sleepers because the relationship between Jason Patrick and Brad Pitt there. The two guys that actually came out of the situation and became men with careers. Jason Patric became a writer and Brad Pitt became a lawyer. The two who ended up shooting Kevin Bacon. They didn't fare as well. Same Way as Verno activity exactly are the ones from by me. That didn't turn out well in Chris Chambers and Gordy turned out. Okay yes exactly so. There's a lot of alignment exactly. We talked about that. When we talked about stand by me. Were like this is a little sleepers and but once these two guys shoot Kevin Bacon they have to Brad. Pitt's like okay. It's all based around the count of Monte. Chris Doak Chris what's epochal kind of Monte Cristo? Christa thank you and that story for those of you who know it. It's revenge and they read that while they're in the you know the juvenile facility so basically want once they know that they're two friends are gonNA be tried for for killing this man. Brad Pitt's like I'm GONNA come in and use my lawyer skills you're gonNA come in and use your. We're going to help them get off and you know they bring in Deniro. Dustin Hoffman. I think is there a lawyer and he's subpar so it's just an Enu may think from what I just said that you're rooting for them. Yes it that way. You want them to get away with The weird thing is they do and they don't and then they both ended up dead before they turn thirty. Two guys did a guy who did it because the trauma never got resolved. Now it didn't okay. What's you so that was your fourth so that means I should do. My fourth fourth is seven okay. I didn't choose seven. Perfect seven was my seventh. Seven is the most awful guy heavy sad dark like the only time the sun is shining. I think in the entire movies at the end is a clip. That I'm about to play for you. Is it the. I don't know how long are going to be able to deal with the the scene so you get sick of it. Back as he's head in that box Yeah it's about two detectives or rookie and a veteran hunt. Serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as motives and Kevin? Spacey is Creepy Creepy in this in this movie. And then he like removes his fingerprints totally. He manipulates the process. So that he can go out in the middle of the field even though so the bad guy turns himself in willingly. You rarely ever see. Oh my gosh well. He has a plan like he he. This is like the definition of a psychopath. Like he doesn't care who gets hurt in this process. He doesn't his whole intention is to. He gives the big speech at the end of the movie. About why he's doing it and that that Brad Pitt's decision at the end is the climax of his plant part of his. It's all part of his plant. So what I will say about. This movie is put it in my top five. I said I made it number seven even though we're not doing seven because it's so dark and I won't watch it again. No money ball I'll throw on again is not a movie you want to watch again. I'm good you so real quick. So this is the very end and Kevin Spacey's on his knees. Morgan Freeman is finding out. What's in the box and I think we all know what's in the box if you don't go ahead and watch the movie and this is just Brad Pitt's reaction to most of its visual. But you'll get some audio from a to give me your gun over there but the guy who is in normal life seems envious myself fucking box. Just don't you liars? And the scene goes on for a few minutes before he does what he does in the back. And that's Morgan Freeman. Yes and he's excellent in this movie Vid fincher movie. I believe so. Yeah and and we all know like their remember. There is a scene where he wears a sling on it. And it's because he's a Brad Pitt whereas a sling on his Collarbone or on his arm and because hurt himself during one of the cheese scenes. I think he broke his collarbone during of the chasing so they had to kind of build that in no way. Yeah Oh how interesting so David Fincher as you guys may know is done movies and they all have that dark field. The two that I'm thinking of I can't pull him up right now but I'm thinking over David fincher movie. Well I was thinking of the social network. Okay gone girl okay. It's it's that it's that darker tone. Everything's got that You know the Social Network. The music. What is it that Guy? Who DOES THE MUSIC NINE INCH? Nails guy. Oh Trent Rosner that music that plays over the whole time. It's just the whole thing is like you're watching something in the social network that seems like a college but with that music over it. It seems not good. Won't listening to Kevin Spacey. Talk kind of reminds me Hannibal Lecter. He's just so call. Oh yes like. His heart rate doesn't go up in the same way that Hannibal Lecter doesn't. Oh Yeah so. It was okay fine with with what he's doing. So what is your three mine number three? I know this is on your list. Is a river runs through it and that is my number. Wow boys okay so I did not put up the clip because I assume you would choose okay. Well what's funny about this clip? That I'M GONNA play is Brad Pitt isn't in it interesting. But it's by far the most in fact impactful quote for me okay And if you haven't seen as not gonNA make any sense to you but Brad Pitt. Plays younger brother named Paul and Paul and his other older brother. Norman all they do. Is there the son of a minister? They write in the morning because that's what their dad wants them to be good writers and then they go fishing and and I will say and I I will say about this movie that this movie is a big feeling movie and I don't just like your emotional about the characters. It's really beautiful. Robert Redford. Did this movie. It's really beautiful and the it seems like a different time which obviously it is but it's simpler. You know like you said they wake up they right and then they go fish one. I remember the scene. That was remember is The father played by Tom. Skerritt is is educating his young son named Norman. And he's like okay right a right. Am Blah Blah Blah? So you come back right the essay and he gave it to his dad and he'd be like half his long. Yeah so you'd have to come back in basically right the same thing half as many words right and then he did it again Half as long and he did it and you could see like he just wanted to go fishing and this sucks and then finally tump scared says good. Now throw it away I am I. I always remember the throwaway part lake. Don't attach yourself to what it's about the process and not the end result question. When I saw river runs through it I saw it a long time ago and then obviously saw it again when I was older. Nineteen ninety-two so I was a senior in College. And then saw it with you probably not too long ago again. What we've seen it several times. Sure I guess but anyway..

"Oh that's right. You're going to be okay. I'll be fine. Just Ross. Will Chris was was a long time ago. Look at her standing there with those two greatest enemies. Ross Rachel Green and complex carbohydrates. I remember. He had a hard time filming that because he was nervous. And you know he's he's with the six friends who are seasoned veterans. Who have done this right exactly so but I just wanted to say that that I wanted to pull that up because I think he was funny and I think that it takes some guts to do something you've never done before. And then the last one. I have no clip for this but I it didn't make it onto my five but I know you know. I love this movie interview with the Vampire. Oh I'm surprised that didn't make it on your number six. I couldn't fit it in. I know Stolt Bliss Gutless Dot. Let's say it's still is a theory. But let's dot was played by Tom. Cruise and then Kristen. Kirsten dunst was played. Played The little girl and then Brad played Louis and the book. I read all of an Rice's book so I was really excited to see the movie and when I saw the movie I really liked it. You know when you read about the movie Anne. Rice did not want Tom Cruise to play that character. I think she was okay with Brad. Pitt's character but it basically it sounds like it was a mess the so one quick criticism of that movie that. I've never seen in the book with me. I was Pantheon. So the one guy's name is la dot and then she's like how about we name this Guy Louis but they're from different times. Oh remember because don't remove vampire from a different time and then he makes Louis a vampire but Louis is from a you know that's been living for however many years. I guess it makes sense. It's like via and Rosalie from twilight. Nobody's that's not very common this okay. So so that's my. Do you have any like special. Mentions beside the. I mean I got some but I just want to jump in because okay minutes in and David Hurt. Fine. They're fine. You gotta be efficient eating with other stuff. Okay so you do your. I know you do your ladies first. Fifth favourite bread. Put Brad Pitt movie. I'm going to do one drummer on. Stop doing so. Why don't you just play number two number two? Let's see what happens when we pull up number two..

"All right my name's Donna. This is another episode of Pop culturing where we talk about movies and TV from a Gen X perspective today. We're doing something different because my sweetie wanted to do something different. I wanted to talk about one person and talk about our favorite movies from one person so basically. I Know Todd Todd and I have not discussed Which movies we have chosen. It's a secret it's a secret we're keeping a secret from each other But I wanted. I think it gives us the opportunity to talk about a lot of different movies. You know at once and I wanted to choose someone who is kind of like an icon for Gen xers Because we've grown up watching him and because he is one of us isn't he. I think you know it's funny. I had this talk with someone before and he might not make the cut off. Let's see might be a little older than Warren. He's sixty three nine years older sixty three so he's not sixty three born in six hundred sixty three. You know what I mean. Gen-x age range. I'M GONNA look for lady six years old. They were born between nineteen sixty five and nineteen seventy-nine no he's not generation so but don't you feel like he's in our generation. He's always seemed a little bit older than me. But maybe I pass him for Gen xer. I don't know so we're talking about the very beautiful Brad Pitt. Yeah Brad Pitt. Let me give them a round of applause for that Brad and Brad Pitt. has had quite a year or last year was his quite his year. So Todd I have a lot of movies that we've seen that he is in and we've decided to each choose five of those movies but not together. Todd has five. I have five then discuss them so I think it will give us kind of a good overall standing Brad Pitt and I'm sure there's GonNa be some overlap. I know there is two of them with two of them. Okay but I'm sure that people are gonNA judge my choices because I said is my top five Brad Pitt performances or movies. And you're like it doesn't matter either one well and because one of mine is going to be. He's really not in it that much so it's not like he did this great performance but I love this movie that he's in and that's so let's talk about why without saying the ones. We chose US talk about why we chose the movies we did like you said the only criteria I threw out to you was said five best Brad Pitt performances and then you said how well he acted the movies we loved and I was like. I don't care but really should be about what you loved that he happened to be in and you appreciated him or you appreciated the movie and he was in it. Yeah so it could be either this as an art. There's no like right way of doing this project exactly because every single one of my choices. There's a different reason. It could have been his performance or could have been the movie and he happened to be in and for me. It's the five one the five movies that impacted me the most not like best acting job any of that stuff. It's just wow. I remember that this movie hit me hard. So let's say that because really what I'm saying is both of those things and it's better encapsulated by what you just said. These are the five Brad Pitt movies that affected us the most sure regardless of. It's not but you know if critics were doing their top five they may focus on different things attributed. You know where Brad Pitt's from Sweden. He's from Missouri. I think that's what I thought. But NIAMH DB it's At least he was born in Shawnee Oklahoma but maybe he's from Missouri from this area. I think he's a Missouri boy. Yeah any other background. You WanNa give on Brad Pitt. No not really pretty man. He is a beautiful man. And you know he's had an interesting He's had one of the I think again why it's fun to talk about him. He's had so many ups and downs in his career. I would say more ups than anything but you know we've watched him go through. He's been such a public person. Like I remember. The first time that I was introduced to Brad Pitt was I was living on Belmont in Chicago. You remember those days. Todd probably four fifty. Four westbound is probably ninety three or ninety four and I remember one of my roommates bringing home a magazine and he was on the cover and we were like who is that. Who is that guy and I think we had seen Thelma and Louise And so you kind of did and Thelma and Louise is one of your movies. But you know he had a huge breakout role. He'd been in other things that was like where people were like. Who IS THAT GUY? And he was on the cover of a magazine. And from that moment. Forward Brad Pitt has been part of the everyday language so huge part of moviemaker. So let's just say this because this is the for usually when Cathy I do culturing. We're focusing on either a TV series or a specific specific movie. So we're kind of like learning this as we go if you name your fifth favourite and the happens to be my first favorite out myself and that'll keep this show from not being overwhelmingly loss. You're so instead of necessarily talking about ten we might be but before we dive into our five. I have to get a few special mentions. This is too hard for what? If you're mentioned are part of my won't be I hope you're right. So the first special mention is the fact that he is a producer. Okay and we're not talking about his producing credits. But I think if for those of you who know who are like interested in pop culture you may know what kind of producer he is but just to give you a few of the movies that he's produced. Moonlight Salma twelve years a slave the normal heart which was one of my favourite TV movies. He's producing a Chris Cornell movie that's coming up and those are just some of them like is he his name or his willingness to be a part of a movie. I think helps. Movies get made important movies. And I don't know you know like on some of these these executive producer on some of these just one of the producers but I just think that it's a little behind the scenes like for example the normal heart which I never heard of that. What's that so? It was a production about it and again I feel like I talk about this all the time with todd. The it was the AIDS crisis okay and it was a An I think the it was a play written by. What was Larry's last name? I can't remember but it was about his experience as a gay man and all of his friends dying and how nothing was being done and how their activism. What changed everything. Okay Okay and it Ryan Murphy ended up directing it Mark Ruffalo starred in it Matt boomer started a bunch of great people. Were Jonathan Groff. Anyway you know I never knew Brad Pitt. Produce that like it's not like he's and he's the first name as producer unless you're really focused on the movie making process producer invisible unless you're looking at the credits and I remember when twelve years a slave one in academy award or maybe it was a screen actors guild and I just remember them reading his name as one and I'm like what like these are and if you go through his IMDB you can see all these production credits. It's not like those are hard to find but I just wanted to say that because I think Brad Pitt is a part of the industry more than we know. He's a part of the industry. Yeah it's weird because I'm part of me feels like we just jump into the movies. I don't WANNA BORE PEOPLE. But he he. He did amazing things. When Hurricane Katrina claims built hardly good producer of impactful movies yet has a at least had a really bad reputation because he was an addict or whatever with his kids with Angelina Jolie so he's an interesting person. Well and more you know even going backwards. I mean he didn't just get into a relationship with Angelina Jolie. He left his marriage with Jennifer Aniston. You know he's been with a lot of women. He was engaged. Gwyneth paltrow was with Juliette Lewis. He was he has such an interesting history and the interesting thing is I was listening to an interview with Gwyneth. Paltrow about him He she was talking to shepherd and she's talked to Howard Stern about this that he's like one of the Nice guys ever and that he's a serial monogamous that he he's he wanted to get married. She was twenty two and he's like this is what I want and she said when when they broke up her dad was more sad because he loved him so much so but he he liked to your point. He is he complicated. He isn't addict and I'm just GonNa say is an advocacy. Just stop drinking about a year ago and you know who he credited with that. No Bradley Cooper occas. Bread showed him the way correct and so he has an interesting history and he had a comeback year. So the the next thing I wanted to say and this is the first. This is number one video that you and this was. This is not a movie but I just wanted to say something about it because it made me laugh Brad Pitt way back when decided to do a cameo on friend snow so far. I was pulling that up myself. Really play this one. All right here.
