"Be a bit of a process I will say that I'm loving that picture that keeps circulating on social media of darvin Hamm guarding LeBron James as a 19 year old back in 2004 So that's pretty awesome Yes he did win a championship with the Detroit Pistons in 2004 He played in the NBA for 8 seasons was an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks so he has experienced all around We'll see how it goes for the Lakers next year We got a lot of baseball going on right now though We had a double header between the Red Sox and the Orioles they're onto their second game but what makes me so happy to tell you guys that a pitcher pitched an entire game the Red Sox Nate ivaldi pitched the whole first game they beat the Orioles He only pitched a 108 pitches Oh he was on fire On fire 75 strikes only gave up 7 hits Totally saved the bullpen for their second game Now the second game the Orioles are currently beating the Red Sox for to one it's the bottom of the fourth so we'll see what happens there We also had another double header then that's to game one from the rockies 13 to 7 but right now the rockies are leading the nationals two to one at the bottom of the 5th Earlier to date the reds beat the Giants three to two but the big story with that which I'm sure you've already heard people have talked about it is that Tommy Pham outfielder for the reds did not play today because he slapped jock Peterson yesterday during batting practice because of fantasy football Guys is there something that would have set you so much for you to slap somebody Like that Oh yeah absolutely I don't know if it'd be fantasy football but yeah Okay right But when you hear that fantasy football And then what's most impressive it was like a year ago And so they've been waiting on that So this is what Jack Peterson had.

"pistons" Discussed on The Garden Report | Boston Celtics Post Game Show from TD Garden

"I'm up and down, but recently I've been more up. I think just overall, that's probably because the team's success and he's been a huge part of it. I kind of agree with a lot of what you said. I would like to see a little bit more consistency, more physicality. I mean, is athleticism is off the charts. I mean, that's the first thing that jumped out about him to everybody when he joined the team. The knock on him was a shooting. So he's gone to lengths to try to improve that credit to him. But I feel like that's almost come at the expense of his athleticism a little bit. You know, he's almost sometimes relying a little bit too much on the shot. And I'd like to see him get a little bit more physical. Now I'm not saying this game specifically, but just overall, there's those situations where we talk about Tatum, how he needs to get to the line. I think Brown should be getting in the line just as much. Just the way he's kind of a little bit more of a slasher in there. But he has the gifts. He has a physical gift to be good on both ends of the court very good on both ends of the court. No, I'm just going to say. I think especially when is a marquee matchup, I think he tends to sort of when he's focused on the defensive side of things. He'll tend to lean on that three point shot. He'll look for that open look. Instead of being more aggressive, I'm with you on that Bobby. I feel like I like to see that more often. And so I tried to be more that sort of forced the issue, but just be more absurd. But I think this is all sort of his learning curve, right? I feel like he's really evolved throughout the past couple of months and ever since he's come back from what was a COVID or the injury. The hamstring. The hamstring is right. He's been just sort of trying to mesh back in and be the best version of himself. And I think this is that transitional period where he's going to put it all together. You know, look, he put, this was a quiet 27 points. Tonight, today against the pistons, but I think a lot of that had to do with those shots down the stretch. You know, it sort of felt like he was approaching 20 and all of a sudden he was closer to 30, but that's because sometimes he has was really quiet offensive night because, you know, what he's doing in defensively. And he sort of sprinkles those shots here and there throughout the course of the game, whereas someone like Tatum might go off for like 12 to 13 points in one quarter. And Jalen doesn't do that all the time, you know?.

"All right, welcome in, southern sports game show. Last one for the all star break. I'm Joseph Gabon, give me scano. Don't worry. I know everyone on the couple people were wondering if we're going to make it tonight. No, not only that. I was going to say a lot of people are not mentioned. We're like, keep John away from the show. He's the bad luck no. The pistons bad luck charm and I guess it wasn't him. It wasn't John's fault because there's something still managed to lose this one. It looks good under two minutes to go. You look like the Celtics just had to make one more stop. And in my opinion, Jimmy, the playlist that out to me was the odds of rebound. Over made up for it and making that three quarter, but down the stretch, Jason Tatum game winner, potential game winner. It wasn't enough. And body man he joins us from TV garden. I guess we can start with Bobby Bobby. On what went down. I know Jimmy. I mean you guys later it's all good. Bobby, bob is gonna come in hot. So we might as well give him the floor here, and you know what? He probably has some probably has a quote for us for me, maybe Douglas or maybe he does it. But what's up Bobby? What you got, bob. Yeah, he may just finish that talked about the physicality that the pistons played with. We clearly saw that in the offensive boards throughout the game. And late. I thought kade Cunningham got into Tatum very aggressively on the defensive end used 5 fouls and a wise one on the end there on that go ahead that white could have thrown the Tatum for the win. And they held it down on those last two possessions. I think it was Cunningham who said, but brown on that first one got the block with Stewart. And then on the follow-up try after Cunningham's follow, he basically saw grant, stick right with kingdom on that fade away. Not great shots to me. He may like them, especially the Tatum one there. He didn't talk so much about the Brown one. But they did prefer to get downhill there. Obviously Brown did on that first try, just ran into a crowd and didn't pass it out..

"And like ten times before that, this isn't what we need to do on the offensive end. We need to go to the basket. And then they started doing that. And next thing you know, they've got a few shots. I believe it was three possessions in a row. They got shots at the rim against a pistons team that really didn't have any rim protection. Mind-blowing, right? Team doesn't have room protection, attacked the basket, even if they are packing the paint, the Lakers did that, scored, able to fend them off and then again seized control of the game. So I want to give them credit for that. But should not be in this habit of blowing leads to begin with. That 19 point lead should not have been whittled down to 6 at any point and then finished the game. I would just a four point lead. If it gets knocked down, okay, 12 or something fine. 13, whatever, right over the course of the fourth quarter, you get into garbage time, things like that happen. Just fine, no problem, right? But I was thinking about it, you know, the Lakers came into this game, depending on where you're looking at it, but I believe it was on wind bet. They were a ten point, maybe it was ten and a half point favorite in this one. I was looking at that thinking there's no way. I mean, I'm favor the Lakers to win the game, but this is their MO. Even if they get out to a big lead, they give that big lead up. You know they're not gonna win. I think they've won one game this season by ten points or more. They just don't seem to put teams away completely. Now, again, credit them tonight for realizing recognizing what was happening, slamming on the brakes, changing up their strategy and then making sure that they didn't go down that dark and scary path once again. Credit them there. But they've got to stop that before they get before they give up what a 13 point deficit when it gets down to 6 from 19. All right, a couple more things. Somebody said, oh, it's in all caps. So I know they're serious. So Trevor, talk about LeBron's injury. He's grabbing late in the fourth quarter. So I'm hopeful hopeful that LeBron is okay. I am curious, I need to go back in and look at the postgame comments again. But some people were speculating, maybe it was an aggravation of the abdominal injury. To me it looked like he was more grabbing his side, let's see. Just see Frank Vogel's comments. I don't see LeBron saying anything. Let me dig back into some of these and see if LeBron mentioned anything. Okay, here we go. Our own Ryan ward. LeBron, asking if he re aggravated asked if he re aggravated his app injury, he said, no, I'm all right..

"So we'll see how it evolves as more players come back healthy and everything, but still, we're not that far away from having a healthy Lakers team. Really just missing Kendrick non Austin Reeves and Trevor ariza, which is, I mean, it would be a lot for most teams, but for this Lakers team this year who have had so many injuries to deal with, that's not a lot. We do need to get to the next man up award though. So of the non star players, not LeBron, not Anthony Davis, not Russell Westbrook, who was the guy who stepped up their game the most from there. And chat, if you're coming in from YouTube from Facebook from Twitter, let me know. Who do you think stepped up the most of the other guys on the Lakers? Give us your thoughts. Matt, what do you think? Who do you think should get it? Go. Going back to the world, Trevor, is Carmelo Anthony. 5 away from three, like you said, all of his attempts came from beyond the arc, 303 free throws, 18 points, two blocks. A couple boards really solid night. But the three is that he hit in the second half or pretty crucial in my opinion. He hit one of the fourth quarter that cut it to 8. Then he hit another one that I believe cut it's either four or one. I don't remember. But they were really big threes. It's one of the momentum completely in the Lakers favor. That outside shooting has been one of the lone bright spots for the Lakers season up to this point. He's been incredibly consistent. We've been joking a lot about Staples mellow versus a way mellow. We finally got good soldiers mello. We got little Caesars mellow, yes, and we were talking about that just a couple of days ago about the worst arena names in the NBA and I completely forgot that the pistons arena was little Caesars arena. And just to compare that to the deal the Lakers got. So the Lakers got 700 million or I shouldn't say the Lakers got Staples Center. The AJ got 700 million over 20 years. The pistons are getting 6 million and change per season. So the Lakers, if you do the math, the Lakers are getting about 35 and I keep saying the language. AG, right? They're getting about 35 million. 35 for gaming rights for their arena. The pistons are getting a little over 6 million.

"Everything Lakers. Your Lakers pick up a win on the road the first win of their 5 game road trip found it in game three against the Detroit Pistons, but that was not the only talking point of the night. Yeah, the Lakers went one 21 to one 16 big, big comeback. They were down 17. And then Russell Westbrook and Anthony Davis led the way notice I did not say LeBron James in there. Why? Because LeBron was not in the game. He got ejected earlier in a moment that we're going to have to discuss quite a bit. I believe tonight Matt the optimist Peralta joining me, Matt. I guess first and foremost, the Lakers won so that's a good thing. Wow. I know. It's my very lukewarm reaction to the wood. We were just talking about it right before we hopped on, but how good do you actually feel about this wind trover? Because to be honest with you, I'm glad they got it, but there are a lot of caveats here and I tweeted at mid game like at halftime. I said, if the Lakers somehow come back to win this game, it's still not going to feel great. And I think I'm right. It still doesn't feel great. Yeah, I mean, I think that because it's the Detroit piston. Like if this was if this was the warriors that the Lakers done this too. It would mean a little bit more in terms of basketball, right? In terms of what we saw on the floor. But energy wise, this was my chief complaint on the last show, was that I felt like the Lakers didn't put in the effort. And in the fourth quarter they did. Earlier in the game, there were some issues. There was some moments where I just went, oh my gosh, what was that? Especially defensively. But I did feel like this was the first bit of emotion in a positive way that we've actually seen from this team, at least from certain players. And I'm talking about Anthony Davis, where we've seen them really fired up and really pushing to execute on the floor like it felt like in the fourth quarter, the Lakers really wanted to win. And that sounds like a simple thing. Like, hey, you want to win the game..

"Detroit Pistons and they know that they know that they're going to play this game like their lives depend on it if Midway through the third this game is still close. If you don't take this team and put them in the first or second quarter and kind of show hey were the better team we're going to win this thing, then you can get a team like this to shrink because then they'll remember. Hey, we're not that good. But instead you're halfway through the third quarter and it's still off. And the Pistons start thinking hey, we can do this we could win this thing and they are going to go all out because this is a chance to steal a win and they don't get that many opportunities to do something like that. So that's what we saw. That's what we saw play out. This is what happens. When you give a bad team confidence the Lakers kind of messed around early on didn't come back with the kind of energy that you would expect to see from them didn't come out with the the kind of purpose that they need or the sharpness that they needed and the Pistons were able to get a win. They played better than the Lakers Blake Griffin got hot from 3 sometimes teams get hot shooting the ball and the Pistons did And a lot of that is because of the way the Lakers approach this game. Let me get into another one of these these comments here. A lot of people saying get rid of Marcus all Lucas always was not good tonight. There's no getting around it. Like I said 25 minutes. He didn't really produce a lot out there he wage little bit hesitant did have one turn over there was the play at the end where he smacked the ball out of bounds when kuzma had cut in towards the basket rather than just grabbed. The rebound wasn't a great performance of Marcus all there's no question. How long is two games in a row working cell has been bad those of you who've been saying all along we've been saying the Lakers need another Center they need another big. I don't know. You should just find a way to bookmark these last two games and point to them every single time. You want to make a point against Marcus all because this is it. This is pretty much the down payment against using Marcus all as your primary big man is two games in a row that has not been good and has not been very useful out there on the floor. He was a -6 in terms of plus-minus actually hit the best of the Lakers starters. But again that's in just 25 minutes. So not a great performance from Gasol again. No getting around that..

"Somebody basically asked like. How are you going to? Shut down the Lakers to hold him under their seat season average and his first statement is because we're artists. Like I think that way, the phrases that is just so interesting like it's not. It's not job they have to do. They literally took it like an artistic endeavor that they're going to go out there and make life just a living hell for that later slot so. So actually the philosophy they add was this really strong. Sagging defensive is even a couple times a shack as the ball, everyone defenders will come in a touch, the full pay just to show like. Hey, we're here. If you're GONNA, try do anything, but then they do hard hard doubles the biggest. Recover back so that the ball movement really open up any three pointer driving. That was strategy thing. We'll see US driving series. And I think Americans say. The Lakers were overrated. That's not right to say I, mean they? They made it to the finals in the West but. I think. For people in our age group. Kind of a mis remembering or they just didn't know it all just kind of the situation with the Lakers team I mean. I think Carl Malone suffered like his first massive injury in his career that year, and I think just return like maybe fifteen twenty games before the playoffs started, ended up I think that was his last year. If I'm not mistaken right, so it's like people here. Gary Payton Karl Malone. Chat Kobe Oh. My Gosh, that's a Dream Team. That's Gary was on his way out Carl is like I. said I think that was last year. And I think he got knee surgery at the end of that year the rest of the team was good, but it wasn't like a bench wasn't great and then you get to the finals been dogfights the rounds prior, and then you get the Pistons. Is Hungry team consensus now that they got past Indiana who I'm sure they probably maybe assume would be their biggest threat on the way in like it was the way they defended him was. Like well machine there was or men that said it was like are there was Rashid, right? Bend, that's always been. Yeah. Exactly yeah, it was ben and it was just like they took that challenge, and they were ready for that moment. I mean the Lakers. I mean they've won before. and that's no excuse but like. You guys know watching sports like the new dog always comes in. It always ends for the old guard in a harsh way. We look at the warriors. If People WanNA recent example.

"So I understand. Why might go so upset? But the great thing is I think the pisses made Michael Jordan be the goal. That's the reason why he became. The go is because he had to go through. The Pistons beat them. There were a lot of positive things that came out about the Pistons this weekend in that but. I do think I have to agree with magic it's. Him Losing to the Pistons is the thing that gave him motivation to be great. We knew he was great when he was in high school like we knew what he was great when he was in college new the potential that he had, but if you just walk straight to championship. Without any kind of controversy or anything to overcome, we look through the same way and Michael Jordan changed. His body came the player that could dominate for all of those years because he was getting. beat up by the Pistons. So whether you liked the style of play that the Pistons had I don't know that I. Really Hate. It was was the NBA that time and obviously took the to an extreme level is a good vantage of the rules but the. The rules the rules wraps burnt, calling it, and that's what it was, and it's brutal to watch now because we're used to watching the game, the way that it is now which is completely finesse game totally difference. Aesthetically player gets a breeze you know by his elbows, flailing on the ground to completely different environment, but Jordan was forced to change his body to change the way that he played the game because he had to serve five those battles with. There's no question I mean A. You know the League. Hockey? Said no more clutching, and grabbing the NBA, said, no more hand checks, the NFL said no more touching wide receivers I mean why the wide receivers now joy get so drafted and so wealthy, because the league changed the rules so some of this stuff Michael Jordan. Had to adapt his body because the league was not adapting their rules like Michael, today would not retire as early Michael just. Keep playing. The the League wouldn't beat you up physically the way it does now. Yeah did that doesn't as much now good stuff joy with the news. Well, that's the news. Thanks for stopping by. Heard lie bucur the NBA says. Let's start practicing and then a GM for Atlanta says I'm not going to do that. And where does the League stand today? "Have nailed your tight end picks your wide receiver picks, and it's not an easy position. If you go back five drafts. John There are of the it was like twenty wide receivers taken in the first round I could argue twelve to fifteen have whipped yours have not so you go up, and you trade up six spots to get Arizona. State's Brandon I you. I watched them on the PAC. Twelve guy. What did you see and Kyle? That attracted you to move up in a wide receiver. Heavy draft this this kid. What turns you on here? What just see? Well Brandon was a kid. That you know really? I started CNN and we started seeing. Our scouts were on long before, but J. C. Transfer, but we started noticing them when we were studied in in Kiel Harry, and feels a player that we had great interest in last year. He's now with the Patriots. As, we were studying him. We kept saying this. Guy's pretty good. He kept showing up in spurts and You know Med words is the the godfather to to my daughter. I'm the Godfather is Sonny. One of my closest friends in the world, and as this process started, and this year's started transpiring started asking questions about him or are. Scouts continued to say this kid you know, don't don't let the production or lack thereof the JC kid they hadn't. He'll don't let that fool. You you know, let let's let's keep on being on this guy, and so we watch them throughout the year and he's a guy that just the more you watch, the more you like. I think we were probably helped by at the forty. I don't believe he was healthy. He since had that You know core muscle. Surgery but he ran for five and I. Sure didn't see a four or five, or I saw a guy that never got caught. You know and and sure enough when I talked to her I. Don't believe that he's a four high four three all day long and ultimately what we liked about him. You Know Kyle and his staff, but that's one reason when you talk about our hit rate on receivers, and it hasn't been perfect. But they do a tremendous job. They've been in the system for a long time. So you know when you're trying to project with all these college offenses you have to look at traits in and that's what we do. We spend a lot of time and sometimes it's what's what's the guy looked like with the ball in his hands, because if he has that movement, we believe we can teach them how to run. Routes and Brandon was a guy. that. We thought ultimately there were a couple of guys in the draft that we've got to above everyone else TV lamb and brandon that had come they can do all they had the strength to deal with all the holding man-to-man bump and run coverage that's going on today's football, but then the speed that with the ball in his hand, with the ball, in their hands or two separate before you know during the route that that special kind of the complete package with him, and then talking to her, he he really sold me on the kid. What you know how competitive the kid is at the end of the day, I think once. He passed Philly at twenty one. We picked kinloss, fourteen. Because the guy had got stuck at thirteen. You know a couple more moves He would have been a guy. We would've taken, and that probably would have raised them eyeballs right. He really liked him. And when he passed billy at twenty one colon I looked at each other, and then at noon, and said we never intended to move up. We gotta get. We have at least have to give it a go. Unfortunately, we were able to do something with Minnesota Twenty five You know it's interesting. Three or five picks sec kids Tennessee receiver, a Georgia tied in Japan. Kinloss South Carolina defensive tackle. Gm Tell me years ago. He goes outside a quarterback. If you just if you just draft at all SEC players, he'd probably have a pretty good football team. Is it? Is it I always feel it's easier? To predict an SEC football player to the NFL because they're playing against Moore NFL bodies so when I watch Jay given kin law I I look at him and I think Oh, he's beaten guys in the SEC. NFL that my theory is always been if I, if I was a GM I would lean sec, because if if to can light up lsu on one leg than to as an NFL quarterback does. Do you ever think of it like that? I think he'd do. Not necessarily like that's all we're focusing on, but I would tell you what Kim law up. When I like to do, watch him against the best competition two best games this year Alabama, Georgia. And, so when you can go up and dominate, yeah, these guys who are going to play in the League you know I I also what happens you develop relationships? We were incredibly comfortable with will champ because he gave such an accurate depiction of deebo Samuel last year I didn't know will. I met him once, but we called on Bebo and He hit all his strengths, but he also hit. Here's not even weaknesses. Just realities of who who the person is, and he depicted deebo so well a year later. I said how we got to pick up. The phone and call will about much about kin law because he was so darn honest, and he said absolutely so sure enough. We made that call. Must Champ goes above and beyond and telling me about on the player. The person then tells me caused junior college coach. He knows them better than anybody so I call this Guy Steve Buckley Jones Community College and You Know I. Think you have to rely more on that kind of thing this year because we didn't have the visits where we bring these guys in for two days, really get to know the person, so the relationships came in handy but yes for the SEC players. Charlie, Warner and John Jennings or two players, and and it. It does help when you see them against the best competition. guys Iowa state. Aren't that either. The SEC, but they've got a local talent Trent Williams here I mean he's obviously a very good player. What if I say to? You is a devil's advocate. Johnny didn't play last year. There's no Ta's this year. Foyer easy the same guy. Do you worry at all about that? I think that's fair. I think we choose to look at it. The other way and Kyle around Trent Lott. At this stage in his career, maybe a year off might be the best thing for him. I think we're GONNA have really fresh legs. This guy who loves football who stayed in great shape..

Isaiah Thomas got caught in a big lie of course on the last and here it is, we were coming down Michael Jordan was coming up and in coming up. You have certain emotions income down as champions. You have certain emotions, and I've said this many times looking back over the years have we had the opportunity to do it all over again? I think all of us will make a different decision. Everybody shook hands. and. He goes. He goes on to say you know you look back on it I look back on it, and we actually had tape of it of Michael. Jordan congratulating the Pistons three times, and the Pistons not congratulating Michael Jordan, but I think it's actually fitting how we remember the Pistons. Not all super bowl teams of the same some have style and grace in class. I mean the Ravens and Trent dilfer one. They didn't have a lot of style. Know there wasn't a lot of grace. I mean the the Brad, Johnson! And the Tampa Bay buccaneers a championship in a lot of style or a little lot of glamour. It's the same in boxing. Mohammed Ali was great, smart, glamorous and had style, and that's how he's viewed, and then there's Larry Holmes. Who had none of that? Except he held the belt for a long time. That's how they're viewed. Listen the Pistons never had a lot of class. They never had a lot of grace. They didn't have a lot of style tackled. People at a great coach in one great player Isaiah Thomas and that's how we remember them. We remember the showtime Lakers being great and having style. Those magic teams had class style grace, and when they lost a Michael Jordan. That's how they acted. Magic Johnson met 'EM, Jan the hallway, and he had style and class and grace, and that's how they should be remembered. The Pistons are remembered exactly the way a basketball team should be remembered. Who played ugly? In artistic basketball didn't have a lot of grace really didn't have an offensive style and you know it wasn't. Wasn't the classiest operation. They had a great coach and one great player. That's how we should remember them. That that's that's what they are it. Wouldn't it be weird? If years later there was this mythology. They were so graceful and. Tactful, they had such glamour in style any of it. They just tackled people. That's what they did in the NBA at the time, allowed it. Right just like the Baltimore Ravens. Style. The NFL allowed basically tackling wide receivers, and so at the time they had great corners, and a great pass rush, and they tackled wide receivers, and nobody can move the ball. They not win today that Ravens team would struggle in today's NFL. Not, athletic enough at quarterback, not dynamic enough offensively, and you can't grab and clutch people so I think way we look back at the Pistons. Is? Is Perfect. That's what they were and now and now we're catching them again with their disingenuous nonsense. then. Bother me at all. They Larry Holmes and Mohammad-ali. We're bowl champions. Two different world views on what they were. I don't WanNa hear mythology that Larry was the classy what Larry had style Larry at grace. No Larry was heavy champ. All the ad style grace. At, and that's and that's the story should be. This documentary is accurately portraying the Pistons as they are. That's why it's a good documentary. They're not making stuff up. But during that period of time, that's just not how it was passed. When you lost, she left the floor. That's not true so again twenty years later. They're disingenuous. Twenty years later. "Jair stays I'm coming to you from the road so I apologize for the slightly different sounding audio up. I I talk a bit about the lions loss than spend Gustafsen Fletcher sharp cover the Pistons and of course you know. We will be back to stories around town more on Monday morning but for now. Let's let's just get to it. Let's at the table by saying I'm a homer and I am alliance Fan but Thursday's twenty four twenty loss against the bears was another another example. That this whole Matt Patricia Bob. Quinn era seeming seeming to be a coaching and general managing mistake. In my opinion I sat there as we lost yet at another lead in. Thought we got rid of Bob Caldwell. Who didn't win enough with two playoff appearances for this? Now I'm not saying call was any sort of Messiah area but but hindsight is twenty twenty and he seems to have been a much better coach than people gave him. Credit for a big bright spot was third. String undrafted quarterback David Bluff. WHO's wikipedia page? After throwing seventy five yard touchdown as his first career completion was temporarily changed to quote owner of the Chicago. Bears Unquote and and a photo of a goat was added. I'm I'm all for that Elias. Sports says that this is the second longest touchdown by quarterback on his first career completion since since that big. NFL Merger back in nineteen seventy. So he say this next thing just because I'm just not into paranormal stuff but I wonder if the curse of Bobby Lane was Suppo- that was supposed to go years ago was a fifty year curse after all but on that final year we went zero and sixteen. I just can't help but wonder if somehow it has kept going it wasn't expectedly painful losses drops the lions two three eight and one good for bottom of the basement of both the NFC north and the firm knowledge that we will not be in the playoffs this year as we are the first NFC deem to be officially eliminated which gets me into larger point between the Tigers the lions the red wings and the Pistons. Look our sports in town stink right now. This is a city with few things that hold us together across our boundaries and we also have some of the greatest sports fans in the country and we really deserve and we need better. But I'll be honest. I am at a total of how to get there over to flesh. Fan despite coming off two lopsided victories in a row the Detroit Pistons are now six and eleven including a woeful one and eight on on the road. There's now concern among the fans that their playoff hopes are already in jeopardy unless they make some moves and we're talking specifically at trade raid. We'll talk all about that with our NBA correspondent Fletcher Sharp And I should also notice note before we get into this that we recorded the segment on Wednesday is day that was before the Pistons traveling to Charlotte. They also host the Hornets on Friday. Night with all that said Fletcher. Hydro Man I'm all right all right. So as I mentioned the the Pistons are kind of surprising a lot of people in the basketball world. who expected them maybe to be a little more competitive early on what's wrong with the team So far here early in the season where do they need help well to start they were missing Blake Griffin which most of their offense. It's kind of free form But Still Senate around getting the bottom Blake Griffin lent him create. So when your main guy who's supposed to be there to create for you is not there. You're not some issues. Also Derrick rose trying to trying to find himself coming off an injury he was on. He was on minute rotation reduction same as Blake Blake like finally came back. So it's kind of you know difficult to gauge. Exactly how they were going to do with them. As of late their main issue is really been that they. They don't have the defensive to defend properly against the team to tax they can score a lot of teams where the problem comes when they're missing shots. They're getting beat in the fast fast-break however as mentioned before one of the bright spots is Andre Drummond while people want to get rid of him he has been steadily putting up an historic orrick year. So meanwhile as you mentioned Blake Griffin's Now back in action and everything but more recently. They've Lost Reggie Jackson to a back injury. How much is that hurt It depends you ask. Some people would say that it matters some people say it doesn't I attend to go along the lines of those. It doesn't matter so much because I don't really think he's much of a plus a he tends to hog the ball whenever he's whenever he's having a good shooting night in the also tends to Audubon when he's not. I think the Pistons Work Best when they let Blake Griffin create. Reggie Jackson kind of doesn't really allow that because he wants to keep the ball. I will say whoever they've been replacing him with though never really seemed to work. The only plus site is Bruce Brown who they drafted as a shooting. Guard out of Miami last year is getting some rotation as a larger point guard which is helpful. 'cause it's helpful to have people who can handle the ball just the one plus US otherwise people would only wanNA Trade Reggie Jackson and I guess he can't really be traded if he's hurt so no one can see him play so I think it gets. It hurts their but otherwise I don't really think Reggie Jackson much of an asset for the same or so. Let's let's move on then to speculation that the Pistons may need to make some trade. What what has dwayne Casey the head coach said about that and and who might they be looking to You know us as I have not asked wing case to this question. Listen because I'm afraid dazzling case question because it seemed a little early personally the asking about trades. I know the season is maybe like about fifteen games in. But I think there's still some time to recover Blake Griffin's back still a minute restriction but he's back to being able to be competent. So that's going to help your offense. I think they really the main issue. They're having right now though. If we're trying to look they play things to replace is a backup center. Backup big man so blake. It's in foul trouble or Andreessen foul trouble. If you're GonNa Start Marquee Morris Then that kind of creates a hole there and right now as I've said before I'm fine makers not getting it done. And while I think Christian would is a better option a Christian would is still still learning the Pistons Scheme so all the points that he scoring or coming really off of catching from three or getting rebounds putting it back up but when it comes down to run a play with him he does not know what he's doing he's just going where people are going to go and not really knowing what to do which is amazing that whenever he's in there for a short amount of time he still putting up points like the last game I went to this. Friday Christian would really only played the fourth quarter but he came in in the fourth quarter scored nine points five rebounds two blocks and just like one quarter of time so so like would he knows what he's doing. He's producing the problem as is like you don't really want to put someone in. That doesn't know what they're doing early on in the game because that could really cost Ashti Wardha games kind of being blown out or something. Whether you're winning you're losing you can afford that. I think we're GONNA look to trade for some look trade for somebody tried to look for a big man who can help there. Maybe look for a wing defender who can also who can score but also play some defense because as someone pointed on twitter. A last chance Lazarus Jackson Pistons reporter Blake Griffin when during his time in Detroit has never really had a wing attack and play defense. The best thing he's had was the other Morris Brother Marcus Morris and I don't really think Marcus was more of a wing. I think really think he would fit that mold too much so if they could get someone who kind of like Tobias Harris in the past except Tobias Harris who actually wanted wanted to have the ball versus Tobias Harris. Who just happened to have the box? He was the most talented that would really help the team a lot. You give you give some wing scoring next to Blake. You give someone who can give the ball Andrea so he can give back him someone who can attack off the dribble Lucan arts coming into his own which is great but you still really don't want him trying to beat you to the to the rim. You want him kind of still shooting shooting so someone who could kind of I don't WanNa say someone like someone like Carmelo Anthony but not criminal anthony. You know what I mean someone who could take the ball score themselves when a game gets too late take over the game sort of but like not still play within the system but that's going to be allowed to ask a lot of people thinking they they should try to trade Andre Drummond for that Which I think it'd be a big mistake because he's doing a lot for the team? A lot of people say Blake Griffin's should be traded. What do you think of that? I don't know what to do with his team featured him you come from 'cause A lot of people's numbers go up on Blake's on the court. I know some people's numbers go down like an old luke's numbers. This season have a bit down on Blake Spin on the court. But I feel like if you get rid of him to the point of trying to get them. That's kind of a waste of a of money the anti but no I mean back back to drum and a lot of people a lot of people are saying they want to get him because it'll like his effort anything it was sort. If you get rid of him I don't know where they're going. Where the rebound during the come from trump because no one else rebounds on the same which is why drumming can average like seventeen eighteen rebounds a game? It's because other team gets kind of like. When Ben Wallace played for the Oh four zero three or for Pistons from that Area Safer Rasheed? No one else really rebounded and that was okay. 'cause Ben would grabbed fifteen rebounds but you get the first year without Ben Wallace. The Pistons had a hard tim rebounding. 'cause they're like Oh we can't run in transition because there's no one here to grab the rebound so I I really feel like they should get someone establish make sure when they really want they do that. And there's known in the market That's GonNa Fetch. That's going to be able to give what they want for Andre Drummond rate right now at least right so speaking of Ben Wallace in You know the Pistons Thousands of yesteryear. We just passed the fifteen year anniversary of the infamous malice at the palace and understand. You are actually at that game pletcher. Yeah it was my first ever pistons game with my father. Oh we nor- we normally even normally went to lions games. I went to one Pistons game with my stepfather's that Fathers Fraternity Omega Saifi and like this one actually also featured a player going into the stands will mentally back when Bison daily played. I remember I ah remember. He liked made a block. Threw the ball court just around the clock and like he walked towards the edge. This the court said high fiving fans like he just didn't care and there's at least like five seconds left on the clock and I was like what's happening what what's going on this is this. Is this normal. What do you remember from the malice at the palace night? Though asked I tell people this and they don't believe me. I have to bring up my friend. WHO's also there? I actually was in the lower bowl like about thirty rose. Twenty twenty twenty five thirty rose from the scores table so in runner tests left over the scores table. He was running like in our direction. when I.

"And the one thing I'm sure this is come up on the podcast, but you hear over and over talking to people in the league is, you know, hey, we just want to see what happens if they get down to one this series. We can punch them in the face and see what happens, and, you know, whether they start turning on each other whether it's Durant's free agency. Whether it's. You know, the fact that cousins has been struggling to to fit in defensively to they start blaming each other and turning that blame inward is opposed to know banding together and browley to win the series. Like we did see last year against Houston in the conference Lyles. Well, Kirk your fish fishing, see landscape report over the last fifteen games that has the pistons out front of everybody the warriors. This is what was alarming to me eighteenth defensively. Inefficiency the last fifteen last fifteen games that's not insignificant number and that's a worrisome that's a worrisome trend, especially because I think a lot of it is tied to DeMarcus not that it's his full per se. But what are you seeing them? What I'm seeing with them is demarcated boogies not fitting in right now. Here's some stats for you. In the last thirteen games DeMarcus cousins, he's a negative five net rating when he's on the court. They're losing games when he's on the court and their offense is below league. Average in the twenty seven minutes game he's been playing. This is the Golden State Warriors having a below average offense when DeMarcus cousins on the court that's alarming to pelicans point the warning signs were there what I've been saying all years either. This is the two thousand one Lakers or the two thousand four Lakers either they're going to get to the playoffs and just through everybody after sort of an awkward regular season or the somebody like the pistons is going to come out and just out muscle out. Tough them play better basketball, and they're not going to sort of. Have that cohesion that they've had over the last four or five years to win those kinds of series? So I'm looking at Draymond. And I'm looking at the markets, and I'm seeing negative net ratings. I'm seeing warning signs on defense and to your point Brian. They're not the deep esteem in the league by any means there is this week as it's ever been there one injury away from a really really dangerous situation. So I would say this. I think this is the closest they've been to not being a favourite since they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Right. We're talking about the warriors and their dysfunction of lack of province through. We'd be remiss not to point out the gas that curb got caught in last night in the loss to the sons where he was seen on camera saying, I'm so tired of during lunch. You just gave kyri our our producer a some thing to edit. But here's the problem with that. I don't know he got cut off. And I don't know really what he said he could have said I'm tired of Draymond 's not covering the pick and roll tired of Draymond shooting. I mean, it could have been it. Didn't look good. I agree. But I don't have enough information to. To totally nobody said, I will say that. When you look at this team. They have a guy on offense who is a guy. You don't have to guard and Draymond teams don't guard him. And so they kind of I don't wanna say two point four and five on offense. But maybe it's like four and a half on five and then defensively they have a whole because everybody's attacking DeMarcus right now. And while they could go to the Hamptons five, which I'm sure they will go to the Hamptons five when it really matters. They're not deep enough to just only use him for twelve minutes. They need him to play. So you have you know, so on defense your art?.

"Business of one eight over the last ten games. They've moved up to six place in the in the east. They're essentially such a debt other game ahead of the nets who they play tonight or half a game headache. That's. And Kirk had a chart. I don't wanna call chart. It was sort of a graphic that said since was less fifteen was less fifteen days less fifteen games as fifteen games. Fifteen games. Right. Tell us what you what you said about the Detroit Pistons, the drip business or the best team in the NBA over the last fifteen games the way, I look at the NBA through the dean Oliver framework, they have the number one net rating their twelve of twelve and three in their last fifteen as you said they've climbed up to six place and their net rating is ten point four which is better than the rockets who are getting a lot of attention over that same stretch in rightly so licencee, but the Detroit Pistons offense is incredible and Blake Griffin needs to get more attention than he's currently getting because he is the definitive sort of offense of weapon their offensive rating over the last fifteen games as one nineteen which is by four the best such Mark in the league. And again, I think it's like this is what Blake Griffin's prime looks like he deserves credit for being sort of the best point forward in the league right now at least on playoff team. I think he is just not getting enough. Attention and the season of hardening Jaanus and Paul George like, maybe it's time we give Blake Griffin. Let me ask you this. I had some I in my weekly column last week. I speculated this is going to be the end of one of the greats series of one of the great streaks of LeBron's career. He's made the first team all NBA eleven consecutive years. And that ties y'all time streak for consecutive first team all MBA's with Bill Russell. And by the way, all NBA has been around to the sixties. It hasn't always had three teams. But first team all NBA has been around in the sixties. The bronze eleven straight. I teams if he makes y'all NBA team any of the three teams this year he'll tie a number of guys who have made fifteen teams altogether in a row. So I think it's pretty safe to guess that LeBron is not going to make first team considering Paul, George and Yoenis arm MVP candidates. Blake Griffin has made a strong push. And break Griffin. Playing kind of like LeBron has played at point forward for them between K C sort of design that role. Blake Griffin's second team all NBA. He put Blake Griffin ahead of LeBron this year. Wouldn't you think Kevin? I don't know if I'm willing to go that far. I'd I'd wanna look at it. I I mean to me Colli. I mean, don't you? Don't you credit the Taylor both those guys? Okay. And you will Durant. Well, I didn't mention Durant. So so so Durant. Take even Paul George third guy. Right. I'm sorry. Durant? Paul George John issue figure. I figured Paul George said Yasser making first team, even though Durant. But awesome. But well, how do you see it Yano? I agree with that part of it. And then so then, yeah, I guess you're you're debating who's going to be the next guy on the second team. Right, which to me. Yeah. We'll why is there? But I mean and then Blake too. I mean, I don't want. I think Blake's having a tremendous year, and you cannot discount the fact that this is a team that missed the playoffs last year that he is carrying into the playoffs. I would say to to that point. If he keeps doing this for the rest of the season. He's gonna earn himself. One of those slots, I mean, this is the best team in the NBA over the last fifteen games twelve and three nobody has a better record. The typically nobody is better martyrs. And he's the reason why I mean, what are we doing here like LeBron's team is careening towards the lottery and his team is sort of sending towards the playoffs. I'm not saying he's a better player..
