"Mikey piscopo. And he's ripping up playing the guitar. Like stevie ray. You know as the great stevie ray bond but he understands that i. There's a lot. I could teach my kids from what frank sinatra winter me. There was prejudice toward americans. There is now but even more so back. Then and even frank sinatra's parents like my grandparents they had to go through. You can't even imagine the prejudice and you deal with it your work. It makes you work harder. And everything that frank sinatra did and that parallels my father by the same generation the greatest generation. You know. i think your father was like that as well from what you're telling me. This respect your hero of mine. You're my father's hero in. And we do this with love and respect and mr sinatra was so nice to me when i got to meet him when i got to meet frank sinatra. You know and it was the joke. Isn't it was so troopers. I met dick cabinet of talk. Show host introduced us at a friars club or something they said. Hey joe piscopo frank sinatra. And i froze man i. I was at such awe of the whole sinatra. Your father would appreciate that it's just the whole Ah tenor the whole reputation of this great man and all that he stood for frank sinatra and i froze he said to me he put his in. Franks and i did that he goes. Hey joe baby. I like that. North jersey hoboken acted joe. Joe baby i go i go. Hey can i call you. Franken went no like and it was in front of like a couple of thousand people. Where did that. And i'll tell you what used to call me the vice chairman of the board. So i appreciate you. Listen to the show on sunday nights on. Wabc radio in new york as you watch around the country. Wabc radio dot com and we celebrate three hours of who we call affectionately. Because he's like the captain of a ship. We call mr sinatra the oh man you know that it would respect so we celebrate the man. This weekend. I don't know when you're gonna play this but we we're going to celebrate Hispanic heritage month you know and and gonna play antonio carlos. Your beam with mr sinatra. So it's just. I just fell into it. You know but it's all about my dad all about father. That's what it's all about. My father was. He used to discipline us. But if i may he was always there. We're bloomfield new jersey. Alex and we went. I went to Brookdale elementary school. And i was on the baseball team and my father was working all the time in sake as a lawyer representing you know the workers and to be in court. Every time we had a ball game he came with a suit. Diane and he coached the team. And i never forgot that. See that role model at and then he would sometimes take his style and he would just coach and then with you take us out for like ice cream. I remember as a little kid. I remember that and that is an indelible mark on a my fatherhood. The love that show discipline not so much. I can't. I can't carry that but the love and the respect that that i have for pop he showed me and that's what i try to show my children man. Yeah austin testimony their jobs. And listen. I like i said i grew up listening to all the music and i think it's just when when you listen to that arrow music. I grew up with jimmy razelli. And then some bobby darrin and all these guys and it was like and you fast forward to today italian. No no no no l. e. italians. don't jimmy rozelle. Jimmy was a guy that was apparently so great and he will perform for all the the wise guys you know apparently. Apparently i'm just saying it's rumor has it. you know. And and but he's site so kind of an esoteric game. I talked to him once but apparently was great. But something happened with you. Ian and mr sinatra. Did your dad tell you there. They there was a falling out between the two of them. You know he he did. He did what he did. Talk about that. And i do know yeah he was. He had the reputation for playing for all the all the mob type guys and all that stuff. But i mean. I i like my friends when i was. I was out of my mind. Because i will listen to. Songs like your. All wedding ring was due the house. Road this kid rock you know so But you look at the top of the charts today. The music that comes out. It's just a different message. It's just it's just totally back then. Everything was about love and it was just just has a powerful good message today. I don't think we get that as much now did you. Did you pass on this tradition of the frank sinatra type of music to your kids are they do they. Listen yet and you're right to your reference on the demo. It's interesting on. Wabc on sunday nights with sinatra. There are young kid. There are parents living Listening with their kids. So i have a fifteen year. Old kids will call me on the phone and the same listening with my dad and and we learned an almost like a professor. They call me a professor piscopo because unlike a curator of everything sinatra with provisions from the family by the way of immense respect for sinatra enterprises. My friend charlie. Opinion and tina sinatra came on the show. I was just so so You know Grateful for that. And nancy junior as well but you know they listened and because they want to dress up they wanna get in because the old man mr sinatra. He always had some kind classy thing going. I feel funny talking to you like this. Because that's why. I always make it a credo wearing a tight joe. You're always just in a title. You know what it's like. What frank sinatra. Do you know what i mean. And everybody your age younger the dig. It and my kids and joey would go around saying in new york new york. At four years old it was would be singing. The earth does great to say and my kids know my son. Michael is is great. As you see michael online. You'll see.

"But i'm a religious guy so i just say you know you just you have to be thankful to god for being here and just appreciate that and that's why even politics where we're doing a lot of politics now. I don't care who you vote for. I don't care who you. I tell my kids this because they get political and then they're told in school with things are so i gotta even everything out you know with my children just to be grateful here and to be respectful. So it's mostly gratitude humility and respect. That's what i live by. A and i just hope it. Listen the by the grace of god. Only the kids are following that credo. Yeah very well said. I am on the faith-based guy myself my favorite part of the day is six o'clock we eat dinner to six of us religiously together and it's the best time of my day so i'm with you there. Let's as far as the party. I tried to bring guys on from the left from the right and it's just fatherhood is something that unites us all. We could find some unity in fatherhood because we are all connected through that we all share a similar experience. No matter what side of the street. we're coming from so. That's why i keep the focus on fatherhood and family life here and how how about about as as discipline goes here joe. What what kind of disciplinarian have you been a dad and is that different than the disciplined style you grew up with. It's a great question of the worst disciplinary. Just i i will talk. I don't yell. I know everything my father was to this day. Still my hero and behind me up pictures of like my grandfather. You know my pop and they came over from italy might. My father was born here but he was. I don't know how amazing was at first father was. He could speak english when he went to school. They made fun of him but he went on to skip grades. Became a lawyer to represent a non-english-speaking blue-collar is that that grandfather was his father was a. He was my hero. My father told me how great america is he told me how how you gotta work any never pressure me out on a go. You got us. He was a lawyer and go to law school. I'm the least thing from an academic in the world. I can't imagine going to law school. I barely got out of college. Man now at pop was there and he is. He is my number one hero. He's my number one here on. That was that's my My my driving force right there but discipline he was an. I know you're young. You're young. I am but the my day they they could drive. There was a comedian that he's doing this bit. And i wish i remember his name. 'cause i always do credit where it's due but you dad. He could reach back and smack you in the back seat of a car quicker than anybody booking muhammad ali. My father be driving because junk me. How can you be that quick as a wow. I didn't even get mad or a herder crisis. That was the fastest move. Ever see my and they knew where you were in the backseat to power. And he was he was an e would just be very something was wrong. We let you know. I'm the direct opposite. I just a pussycat like that. You know and then the moms always go. Who are you should say something. You should do something i talk. I like to lead by example. And i like to lead. This sounds really. You know kind of wishy washy. But i like to give a hug. You know commit sums up and they think you're gonna yell at them. You hug them. You're hugging me and say you got this. Let's talk it out. I dry so far. It's been working. But that's might that i'm not. I'm not a yellow. You know you're grounded. You're glomming i can't. I'm not a talk a hug. And i just hope it works out so far so good. Alex yeah listen. My father was my father born in one thousand nine thirty and he was fifty years old when he had me so he came from that old school as well you know so he he was a no nonsense and i find it a lot of the data that i bring on here when i asked him the discipline question. They'll say oh. Yeah i got the belt. Or i got the switch. I got the spoon or whatever and then they say well. I don't do that with my kids. I there's definitely and i look sometimes like when i get hard disciplined my kids. I look like how they held. Could my dad dude. This like you know what i mean. I i get this guilt. Feeling like one of the kids young and i smacked him on your ass. It's like i feel so guilty for doing like hollywood. He didn't see like he ever felt bad about doing it. Like you know so. I said you before. He was a standing singer. For eddie fisher. I love obviously you know when you do the sinatra impressions. Do the the sundays would sinatra. I love the show that you do. i wanted. I wanted to ask you this year. What is the demographic are other still is. They're still a big audience of younger generation. That's thirsting for the sinatra type music. What what does the audience that you're seeing. What kind of feedback do you get from the younger generation. You know you know so funny. I if you're watching this out call. I tried to get my pet. But of course. I'm out in the boondocks jersey. So he can't get any subject so i grabbed the iphone. Now i'm looking over there like two cameras day and i ate that over here. See the ever. I see the czar. I'm like no that's all right. Hey listen like one of those comedy characters. Like mardi solvent. Hi how. I alex so there. You are You know what it was with the franks with. Let's talk frank sinatra for second. Let's do it. 'cause he was a hero's welcome to me because my father told me he goes. If you're gonna go into entertainment. And i said i'd like to do that. Dad thank to be like a comic or something and he go ord entertain are going to be like an entertainment so he goes will be frank. Sinatra's greatest in the world. He was italian. He was from north jersey and his family came from italy and he really reached the height of everything entertainment. There's your there's a role. So i i start kind of understand. It absorbed Frank sinatra but then when i went to doom and a comedy clubs didn't with respect but i didn't the then. They asked me to do my saturday night. Live and i didn't wanna do it out of respect for my father and for frank sinatra. Because they're the same age they were your par- same mentality same movements with when people go. Oh yeah you're you love frank sinatra more than you know average spanked at the respected lover dodger for. It's all about my dad..

Or i'm doing the radio show but i just i just got my buddy helping with the driveway which got washed out but if you can come over out got appreciate it because need some help and i know you're tough guy man so we do it. The driveway of the flowers. People think it's easy like rodney usa. Say an easy. I'll tell you it's not easy. Tell you listen you. You're in dad mode your dad gear here so let's start right like this. How many kids do you have. How old already. But i always say as the joke in new jersey. I have a child at every exit. You know that. I got i got. I have five children and the blessings of my life man. And it's like you know i you know the marriage is not so much but at and but i always thanked the mothers of the children because they blessed me with the i go like just my people we go like this out and make the sign of the cross best kids in the world so i've got him from all the way you know older you know probably your age or so. My big son joey. Who's just a great king. God bless them. And then i've got twenty two. You know i've got a sixteen year old about to turn seventeen year old michael just star nineteen and that might my stevie ray vaughan subtle guitar better than i ever could you know and and then i have a ten year old. I know the question is alec my friend in my done and i don't know a you know what i'm saying. I'm just saying i love. I got a dead kids. you know. Listen i'm right there with the you said there too. I don't do a marriage show specifically on. That is just focused on fatherhood here. I i got four kids myself. I have three boys and then got the girl on the fourth trial. Otherwise we'd have five by now and be catching up to you here. But we got her on the fourth. Try and that was the end of that. Show the girls girls at our best. I have three daughters. And i got ice something else and you don't understand women really. I think you have daughters and the so much. The the intuitive nature of women. I find out i know for my mother of course but when they walk into a room. That's what i like about my daughters. They could ascertain the second. They'll see who. What's what the get the vibe of the room guys and you we're like ours. We have no idea going. Such i the main trucks in my life. I'm working a lot. We do a by the grace of god. We're all the time. And i enjoy it. But they said what do you do for fun. And as a dad you know and i watched the site here and i love what you doing with it. And that's why. I appreciate you taking the time even chapman the because that is i'm like i always say i'm a dad's savant. You know the rest of life on stage if you pretty darn comfortable before microphone but with the data i- there's like an instinct you know it's an that my main thing. Is you know safety for the kids. The eating right and always just so caring about my children so This is great that you're doing it because that you know i have to tell you. That's you know. We're we're always like jerry seinfeld said the best. Were like the you know the the helium balloon is almost out of helium. And we're just hanging around hanging around in the background you know but but it's joy it is my friends. So so congratulations on the great work. You're it human thank you. I appreciate take me back to the beginning of your fatherhood journey here that about. How old were you approximately. How will we when. I became a dad and had to becoming a father. Kind of change. Your shift your perspective on twenty seven and then Y you know i was with. Joey's mom for a while you know. And then I remember distinctly twenty seven. I'm in the comedy clubs right and and having a child and at the comedy clubs. That was such an anomaly to everybody know could believe it. I was the only guy with a kid. You know it was an an and larry gave was there you know larry they give children or and jerry seinfeld was around and all these greats were around you know but we were all starting at back then and then i joey was born and i remember distinctly. That animal instinct. You have when you look at your child the first time your first child for the first time and you can't. There's something you can't describe unless you're there and i remember the baby was born. It was englewood hospital in jersey. You know and then. I remember Nancy's mom's crying. And i started to cry and then they let me hold. The baby looked at judson. Wow man it was just an overwhelming Comforting feeling but almost an animal instinct of protection for that child that i've never experienced it again. I'm out of the comedy clubs. And from then on it was such a joy and and he was like With me everywhere. I used to bring him at the say. Good night saturday. Night live which is probably get some kind of child labor law something because it was one o'clock in the morning but i actually joe. Yup he would stay there he might kid would hang out with like eddie murphy and we because he was around all the time stevie wonder was right down the street and alpine where we used to live bergen county in jersey and then he goes. Saturday live as all the stars. Saturday live at that. I would always achieve. Now see the reruns a little kid so that that was the stairs about twenty seven then i just you know kept having children after that man incredible joy. What would you consider to be the top values that you had always wanted to instill in all your kids. They give you a purpose of life. And that's the having child gives you purpose of life. And that's what i wanna teach my kids. How grateful we should be just a be here. You know a not to drive driving home..

Discussing the Good and Bad of Christianity: Dillon Bruce of the Bible Conversations Podcast

"Rain. What what kind of. What branch of christianity. Were you when you were growing up with because i know i grew up catholic and since kind of distanced self a little. Bit what about you. So growing up A lot of fame or at least a legitimate. Because i know our methods but i grew up in an am african american Ah piscopo i think ame And it was not as lively as baptist church but not as rigid as a catholic church Very somewhere in the middle But i one thing they want to mention was that so much. So that people who hear the good can come forth into the good but those who hear how you're able to be transparent and to give and receive the feedback in the same light as the good while going through. The transgressions will even more people so not only is. This good is good in every light. You can find good in anything so this is good. Mary do appreciate it once again. Well and before we jump into the bad. I just wanted to point out for anyone who is listening to the audio. I know we're still on spotify on anchor in everything. If you're listening to the audio check out our youtube channel look at the video. Because i know this is a shameless plug. And so yeah once. You're on youtube. Channel smash buttons hit them all that stuff but honestly watch. The video watched dillon's face when he's describing. The good of christianity watched that as opposed to just listening to it. Because you know there's something to be said about just just watching you explain this. you know. it's clear that that good that quote unquote good. Is that good to you right. That it means that much to you that i think the audio only doesn't really do it justice so yeah definitely check that out Check out the video component. So that you can see the actual. I don't know the the visual component of describing this good but anyway yeah. I think that you know we. We've touched on a lot of the good Dylan i wanted to before we kick it over to some of the more quote unquote bad or controversial stuff. I wanted to give you one last chance to say what needs saying any more any other good aspects that you want to bring up before we jump over I think that we've left out. That's important very you being very nice dylan because you can have a whole podcast on all right. Yeah and that's the thing is when you ask me the good and i was like The body will. How am i going to summer as so. That's why i just chose with very big statement that gives purpose to life and so two to add onto that as well before we talk about the bad One of the main things that i like to share with folks is those who don't have any connections to christianity like y'all mentioned he grew up Ame and catholic and y'all have a a understanding of scripture which is awesome. But it's the folks that i really like sharing with the that. Don't know much about jesus us that don't know much about the bible at all and that's when i can can tell them. Hey i i can share something with you. That gives your purpose. I can share something with you to show you that the you don't have have to have a broken life that god didn't make you broken that I was formed as a jar of clay. Just as you were and that even though we may be different circumstances in life. That god doesn't make any jars of clay that are broken and that you can still do the purpose. The the jar was was made for to hold water. You know you can still glorify god. You can still worship god just as i can. And that's our purpose. We don't need to do anything more. We don't need to have the biggest house we don't need to have the This or that or anything we have one goal is to glorify got and when we are able to hold out water like the job when we're able to glorify god then that's when we get to look forward to return ity that's when we get to look forward to heaven with god. Which is i guess. Probably the best of all the good things about christianity. What we appreciate you use. I mean obviously like like you said it's impossible to fit in all of the good of anything in in that short of period and like like we said we plan to do this with different religions but also cycle back through and get back to christianity or different Sects of hannity or things like that and so hopefully as time goes by and we do some more of these segments will be able to flesh out a little better the good surrounding all these religions right in and have as we get some different people coming on get some different perspectives. On what what. Different people value most about the religion. And what what they think is. They're they're good right there. Good aspects. i think that'd be really cool too because when you even look at the look inside christianity. then there's even a whole nother conversation you can have right. Yeah so with that. I think we can jump into some of the more quote unquote bad or controversial aspects of christianity. Right to the other reason that people don't like talking about religion is the more negative aspects of it right. People will talk about things like the crusades. People will talk about things like the kkk. We'll talk about things like you know catholic priests molestation accusations and things like that and so there's all these things that when you now say oh yeah. I'm a catholic. Or oh yeah. I'm a christian. Now be be observer or listeners saying oh well what about these things. These things i know about that. Oh that that frames christianity in a bad light or frames catholicism in a bad light or whatever the religion is everyone has the So yeah i mean brandon kick it over to you. I know that you had some some You wanted to talk more about the connections to the kkk. And i think that would be a great place to start. But i don't want to it from you. You can frame it jump into whatever aspect you wanted to. There's so much that we could talk about with the bad to like you know we gotta pick and choose a little

A Deeply Healthy Kind Of Perfectionism With Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo

"Jetson migrate to meet you. Thanks for staying up late in india to do this interview appreciate it. Thank you so really excited to talk to you. I think maybe a great place to start would be just a little background on your personal story. How did you get interested in buddhism in the first place. Well since. I was a child i had been. What shall i say asking questions i mean. I believed that we were inherently perfect. But that we had lost contact with our innate nature which was perfect so the question was what is perfection. And how do we attain it. So i asked many people i asked the priest sayas teachers. I asked my mother. I asked everybody. I could think of and they said you have to be rude. You have to be kind and even those a child. I recognize that merely being good and kind yes. Of course we have to be good. We have to be kind. But that's just the basis this perfection was something beyond all that but what was it. And how did we attain it. So i read the bible and we were supposedly high anglican. That's like a piscopo. And i also had many jewish friends and i ask them a net rabbis and i even tried reading khurram then i took yoga but none of them onset my question because all of them would dealing with the soul and its relationship to the creator and that just did not speak to me at all so i assumed i had to find my own puff them when i was eighteen. I read a very simple book on buddhism. The fall noble truths and the three signs of being and so forth and as i read it. I just knew. This is what i had always known. I just haven't known that there was actually a religion with said that. I read health book than i said to my mother. I'm a buddhist and she said. Oh that's nice dear. Then finished reading the book. Can you can tell me all about it. As i read it just was unfolding layers and layers of things which i already had known but the buddha gave a path and i was just so grateful he not only explained essentially what perfection was. You're gonna ask me. What is perfection but also. He should pass woods that. So you know i even as i read it. I recognize that. This is what i always known without knowing that i knew it. Let me pick up on. You're keen ability to read my mind. I was going to ask amd ask you. What do you mean by perfection. Because this is. I've spent a reasonable amount of time marinating in buddhism and would describe myself as buddhist for sure. Perfection is something. I haven't fully wrapped my head around and certainly in the west and you'll know this it's easy to get it. Tangled up with perfectionism strikes me as a problematic forced to say the least well essentially. I think all genuine spiritual paul's recognize that our true nature is something beyond our conceptual sort. It cannot be thought about it cannot be spoken about but it can be realized

New York Attorney General Sues NYPD for Excessive Force Against Protesters

"There's a text on the My Pillowtex line. Great. They should be pouring through the videos looking to arrest violent protesters in D. C. Now do Portland. Now do Seattle. Now do Minneapolis. Now do New York. I've got to tell you this. This is actually comical. There's an attorney general in New York. Apparently, they color Tish. Joe Piscopo this morning kept calling her Tish James. Her name is Leticia James. G E can't even believe I'm gonna say these words. Do you know? She's blaming and who she's suing over the violence and clashes and riots in New York. After George Ford's death. She's suing the NYPD. He's showing them. I'm not. I'm not kidding you. You think I'm pulling your leg? Here's The New York Post editorial yesterday, State Attorney General Leticia James filed a lawsuit against the NYPD for supposedly excessive force and false arrests during the Black lives matter. Protests slash riots this summer. The suit alleges that the NYPD in its top brass have failed to address a longstanding pattern of abuse. No question. The lawsuit says that the NYPD engaged in a pattern of excessive, brutal and unlawful force in suppressing overwhelmingly peaceful protesters. Overwhelmingly, she said. Overwhelmingly now, The New York Post points out. Letitia James evidently has an early bedtime because his darkness fell. These protests became overwhelmingly UNP. East fel very quickly. Activists ignored curfews yelled, Spat push! Cops! Windows were smashed. Stores looted, New York City became a boarded up wasteland, especially in the wake of the Capitol. Right. It's the liberal narrative that everything over the summer was overwhelmingly peaceful. Conveniently ignoring the attacks on federal buildings, the squatting in streets, looting and deaths. Deaths. Who would want to be a cop? Without with a lunatic like this.

"Nine seventy the answer sitting in for Joe Piscopo who's gonna be back tomorrow I'm sure he's going to have some respect Christmas stories was great to hear him on the Jon Catton GT's Christmas special last night this John to jump on with us at seven thirty this morning to chat about what's happening in the world and we'll see what else he has on his agenda certainly no shortage of topics in the news that we can chat about what about you but there's only so much impeachment discussion that I can handle I'm I'm I'm impeachment to do out so I found this story pretty interesting and it has to do with something that we covered on the radio on Christmas Eve we aren't Christmas Eve and I spoke with a gentleman named mark Oppenheimer who has a podcast that deals with Jewish culture and one of the questions that I asked him was about Chinese restaurants specifically why has it so often been a tradition the Jewish people go to Chinese restaurants on Christmas day and he who is a prompt a like the discussion and we we you know we had a whole chat about it but there is nothing more American the Chinese restaurant art Chinese restaurants have been an indelible part of the American culture for a long time now and now believe it or not they are on the decline in this country and you think you know with all the Chinese people in the world and with all the Chinese people coming to America why would Chinese restaurants be the coin but they are there's two stories on this and let me that I am first let's start with that the fact that there are two stories in major news publications on this yesterday Axios had a had a story and that you may have missed because it was Christmas day Chinese restaurants are losing ground across the country owners of Chinese American restaurants are ready to retire but they have no one to pass the business onto and believe it or not this is the front page of today's New York times the front page so what what generally happens as is the case of the family that's profiled in The New York Times today is immigrant Chinese immigrants will come here and they work hard seven days a week twelve hours a day sometimes more in the hopes that their children can have a better life for themselves and they instill that in their children Hey you better go out and get an education but to do well in school you better study and you know what what's happening in family after family is exactly that these children of these Chinese restaurant owners are getting a tremendous education and they're going into medicine they're going into law they're going into finance they're going into all sorts of fields where they can earn some real money and are generally considered a little bit more prestigious than Chinese restaurants so the children of the Chinese restaurant owners educated and raised in America are pursuing professional careers that don't demand the same grueling labor as food service if you've ever worked in a restaurant you know how tough it could be Chinese restaurant we have to have a number six special ready in eight seconds probably even more world so according to new data from yelp which is a restaurant reviewing website the share of Chinese restaurants in the top twenty metropolitan areas including ash has been consistently falling five years ago an average of seven point three percent of all restaurants in cities like New York were Chinese compared with six point five percent today now that's almost a full percentage point drop in just five years that's twelve hundred fewer Chinese restaurants at a time when these places these twenty cities added more than fifteen thousand restaurants overall no that's an incredible statistic these twenty metropolitan areas added fifteen thousand new restaurants I love them twelve hundred fewer Chinese restaurants even in San Francisco which is home to the oldest Chinatown in the United States the share of Chinese restaurant shrank to eight point eight percent from ten percent so I don't know about this what this means for the future of America but I don't wanna live in a country with a Chinese restaurant Chinese restaurants could go the way of the diner there are fewer and fewer diners in New York City twenty years ago there were over a thousand diners in New York City now there are fewer than four hundred that's incredible now in in the case of the diner and I think perhaps this is true in the case of Chinese restaurants in New York City as well I think a lot of it has to do with the cost of running a business the price of rent in New York City is for commercial rents is astronomical astronomical it property taxes if you happen to own the building with a diner or the Chinese restaurant happens to be only grown so you really can't afford to even pay your rent if you're selling hamburgers you can afford it if you doing luxury cuisine but not be some hamburgers so give me your reaction to the decline in Chinese restaurants well maybe this is a result of something else you know the.
