Nike CEO John Donahoe's Lessons on Servant Leadership
"What star. John rains that i am most associate with you. Which is servant leadership. And i'd love if you could describe your philosophy on servant leadership especially try to conceptualize it for much smaller organizations. What does it mean to serve leader as a ceo of a bunch of ceo's around the table how should they think about how that philosophy conform away they run their business so when i talk about servant leadership. It's frankly the the way. I learned to lead because i actually learned the lead in partnership a ban where you aren't really empowered to do anything to you have to earn the respect and the followership of others. You guys don't have that as founders. But i do think you'll find that. Many of the best leaders exhibited the principles servant leadership. And i just say how do i serve serve. The purpose of the organization serve the customers served. The employees serve the communities in which we operate in a jim collins called at level five leadership other people call from things. But it's when someone it's not about the leader it's about what it is. We are trying to accomplish right and some of the antithesis of what's hot silicon valley at different times the narrative. Always around the all-powerful founder. They're all powerful leader. And i think there's actually very few examples where that actually great sustainable companies come out of that my leadership role model for large parts of my career with phil jackson of the chicago bulls. Now it'd be steve kerr for your younger and would always struck me. He was able to do is get people who actually were better than he was klay. Together he got michael jordan. Scottie pippen dennis. Rodman caster characters to win six championships. It got shack kobe to play together. You look at you. Look at steve kerr the warriors right. Now he's getting. Somehow he's getting steph curry klay thompson and kevin durant andrew mongering all vying to something greater and they win i view with how do you build high performance teams of top talent to win and servant leadership is part of it.
Fishing on Anonymous Poker Sites
"I'm a huge fan of processes and systems right. I mean in these podcasts. I often give you three steps. Five seven steps. These are the things you need to do blah blah blah. All the jazz right well. When it comes to going fishing on anonymous poker site sites. I have a three step process. Step one is fine. The fish step to isolate the fish. Step three exploit the fish. I'm going to dive into each of those right now. For you step one was to find the fish and for those of you might not know let me give you a definition for the word fish or for the player type fish right. This is a weak level. One player that means they mostly only think about their cards in the board. They're often recreational and they play just way too many hands. In general most of the time fish are passive. But some fish are hyper aggressive and we might call those maniacs or dunks now what are the pre flop actions that indicate a fish now. These are prevalent on anonymous sites. But they're actually across. The board tournaments sitting goes live poker anonymous sites No limit limit poker. They're everywhere right. Listen to these right here. This whole of these will indicate a fish. And if you listen to this podcast. Everything i'm about to tell you is often what i tell you not to do. Right in these various strategy podcasts. So the first one the thing that indicates a fish is any limping at all. The next one is calling to frequently. If you look at a player and you say to yourself oh this guy is always calling. Yeah he's a fish right. Maybe you see these players doing a lot of over calling. That means they call after someone else calls or over limping. Someone else limps. I in vail limp two players limp there the third lemper another pre flop action that indicates a fish is raising and then calling every three bet so basically they just can't find a fold after putting chips in the pot. Another fishy play defending the blinds with any two cards or because it suited or they just can't even fold the jack seven off suit because they put in the big blind already. They're not gonna let you take it from them. Lastly if you're on an online site and you have access to a hud v pip might be greater than twenty five percent. You'll also see a huge gap between v. pippen pfr and those maniacs. Those dunks hyper aggressive fish. They're gonna have a pfr of greater than twenty five percent. Now let me ask you a question. What are the post flop indications of a fish. I have my ideas and let me give. There's four of them for you right now. Number one is that they're calling station. They just overpay with any pair and any draw number two. They fold way too easily on the flop. Turn and that's awesome right because they're just super honest on one of those streets and because they play too many hands remember that veep pip is greater than twenty five percent and they defend away too often they defend it's on pre flop and so they they help you build a nice pot but they give up on the flop return super easily. Yeah that's a player to target one hundred percent right. You're printing money when you see flops against them.
I've Hired Several Coaches, but No Improvements. What's Wrong With Me?
"Hey i've hired three business coaches. They've all felt like a waste of time and money. And i haven't seen any improvements what's going on. There's something wrong with me. My doing this wrong. what's happening. Well i want to answer this question to make sure i also address. Everybody was listening. That my have a similar question thinking about hiring a coach or have higher coach. Maybe didn't see the results are looking for on a star by saying i have gone through this several times. I've hired coaches have a lot of experience. And not all. My experiences with coaches have been the same. I i have to say a quick If you have a coach if you hire a coach and they give you instructions if they give you a action items to do a plan and you don't implement you actually do the work it doesn't matter. What kind of coach you have. You have to actually follow through. So i know this kind of obvious but a lot of people i've met along the way have hired coaches and ask them. How's it working out like not so great as it will. What does the coach advising you to do. All of they're telling me to do xyz. We'll have you done xyz and they're like a not really not sure. If i should and that really is the biggest red flag for me when it comes to hiring a coach. Don't go down the road of hiring a coach if you're don't a hundred percent trust this coach and believe what they say you should do is worth doing because the whole point of hiring coaches saying. Hey i'm allowing somebody else to advise me on how to move forward. And i'm willing to do what i need to do to make. It happen very similar in sports. You know one of the greatest basketball coaches of all time is phil jackson. He coached michael. Jordan scottie pippen but he also coached the lay kobe bryant shaquille o'neal a lotta great players but these players would not be great would not achieve their level of excellence if they didn't allow themselves to be coached if they allow themselves to follow through. And do what the coaches asking them to do.

"So it's not going to move to hold on you. Hold on for a second. I moved on just. Because i didn't wanna get stuck in this particular stupid. Quicksand preserve the moment. The guy had two good games. And now he's scottie. Pippen one of the top fifty players of all time if if they win the next two games if they don't win or if they win one of the next to gaze at choker. That's right so. I don't wanna do that again. I don't i said things. And there's i didn't want he's averaging twenty nine points miami's player. He's not scottie. pippen scottie. Pippen averaged twenty five points per game in any one of the nba finals. He's defensive superstar is one of the greatest offensive players we've ever seen. He's made all mba several times. Chris middleton has never been that he's a two time all star. He's had a really nice career. He's probably a couple years away from retirement. He's a fully formed nba player. He's been this guy for five seasons when you look back this bucks team you'll say okay. What got better who improve. Drew holiday came over. Big right drew holiday absolutely help. But khris middleton taking a nextstep. Absolutely hell he says yes. This is the stuff you by yourself when you get into the third round in the finals you get this. This is how these things become things is somebody will rush to your side and say look at your holiday. He made him a champion. But again i remind you pascal. We were trying to do this with him. And then two years later. We're talking about nobody he doesn't like anybody in the locker room and orlando like i'm guessing got you could have said from there. You could have started making argument if leonard wins the next six championships in toronto pascal. Siaka we'll be scottie pippen because you can do that with any second player but the thing that i wanna ask you about drew holiday because what i saw in this last game that i thought was impressive and there were a lot of things in the last game that i thought were. Impressive was devon booker. Three different times trying to back into a point card does because they can handle the ball drew holiday and drew holiday being so obviously strong physically strong that he wasn't backing up it all and then he just stole the ball from devon booker and then he made a three in his face like. That's the stuff you were here yesterday. Saying that the reason. Chris paul that you're going to be able to identify him as a choker is because of drew holidays defense but this is how all of these people get in these historic conversation way by being on the television. It's not even by winnings to. Because chris paul has been winning and you haven't been giving him any credit as won a title. I know but if he wins the next to he's granted not got. You didn't want he for when he scored seventy two games. You get title though. That's okay but in the last three games he's been dreadful he hasn't been game. It's the last two games that he's been dreadful and if he's an all time great he'll go out on the road tonight and he will get them back home for game. Seven devon booker can handle it from there but tonight it has to be chris paul on the road big spot. Give me forty points. Fifteen in game. Seven i said devon booker could do a form gave seventies getting up there in age. That's why i said give him a pass. I mean it's very nice to me. That's that's what. I love about sports. And that's the nature of sports. Everything changes based on two results if phoenix wins two in a row all of a sudden it's cpi three legacy is made in its devon booker potential superstar and and were refashioning. The whole occupant greg. Three games ago there was an article on. Espn dot com. That every team needs jae crowder. He has been dreadful for the last three games. I mean this is what we do in up to our and likewise if the bucks lose two in a row here we go again with honest. Another failure in the postseason by age. Thirty a four time all nba player time all mba is getting dragged. Five times you're doing this. Why are you allowing rare highlights and awards. And i'm doing like the reverse engineering on the math and all the career highlights for chris middleton is he was all big twelve once and he's a two-time nba also is one of the top fifty players ever because he's had a couple of and he's he'll kill him tonight if he goes ten for thirty four. I don't want this because middleton's gonna have like thirty points. Go win the championship. And everybody's scottie pippen. He's heaven game in the finals without michael. Yeah that one season got benched. Couldn't even take the last shot bourbon. What chris middleton to without. Yana santa to compete in one playoff game last year. Won the gentleman sweep workers. He did hit a game winner against the heat this year. In game one. I went to overtime that it was a dagger. It was a series dagger right that in their series over. You know what he owns us. I think we should just stop right here. And the end of this segment should be. The lebatardshow does indeed endorse that. Chris middleton is every bit as good as scotty pippin better not before he pays up his fine from that five dollars to gods. Yes you did it. Yes you did it. Thank you twenty three. That's right that's right white privilege. Have you seen the officials for tonight's game. Scott foster.

"To myself all morning. Long is still guys. I've never heard the breakfast himmy when it okay. I wished i had some breakfast. Blonde breakfasts fund. It did it at a breakfast like that at at at at at at at Tar show with as to god jude. You mentioned to stu gods. A compliment said that stupidity has been on fire recently. Robin lopez was on stupidity. You can check that out now. Did you ask him any questions about the lopez brothers owning homes or a home in disneyworld. It's all i asked him about Maybe a question or two about broken what he was going to do if he wanted. Nba title. He said he's never gonna let me hear the end of it pretty much and then we got right to disneyworld. And i didn't know that right. I had no idea. Thank you. Chris cody because he made the episode. He told me right. Before i left that robin brooke lopez own a house inside of disneyworld. Which is fascinating. I told greg this morning and he couldn't believe it. They are some of the few correct. I've they're the only athletes. I know who who who. I've read that about that. They what did he tell you about the home. Well you could find out on stupidity. Where stu gods interviews robin lopez and brook lopez might be a champion tonight brook lopez. I've told this story many times. Through god's brook lopez over many years was offered to the miami heat every year at the trade deadline by somebody and every year was sort of like an annual running joke of no thank you and now the bucks find themselves on the cusp of title. And i wanna ask you guys got you. Who loves ripping the legacies of people. And if chris paul somehow loses tonight he will be a lesser player in your mind than if they won the next two games but when it also be a greater player in my mind and if he goes out now we can't he's he's done that a couple of times already and you went you reverted right-back game three next season if he wins the championship. You're going to do it to him again. But the thing i wanted to ask all of you guys is before this season started we would have said this is a one man team. Jaanus will win the championship. Only if jaanus is the mvp and you have seen in this series and before the series started. Gonesse just told you middleton's are closer and you have seen in the last game. The reason they won a critical game five on the road the game you got up got if you wanna win that series must win you win that on the road and the ones doing for your jrue holiday and middleton and become the first three teammates ever to score more than twenty-seven points a game they shot superficially they needed all of it in order to beat phoenix. And i asked you this question. What are they gonna be legacy regarded as. Are we going to go back and say janas one that one by himself the way we did for because we elevated pasta calcio calm right and then a year later he's done again and being traded and and not happy there we elevated for a moment that guy are drew holiday and middleton now going to be elevated to a place that you're going to think of them as championship players or is this one of these one man championships like the one got well. First off with the oddest. He's averaging excuse me thirty two points a game. He's averaging thirteen rebounds a game like john is always there dan. he's there every single night. Middleton's been up and down. Even drew holiday in the office of side is up and down but yes of course. Winning an nba title is elevate. Middleton the most like to me. that's the guy that gets elevated the most. It's janas team. He's the one and if they keep winning championships together. Middleton becomes scottie. pippen no come on. Then he's had monster games throughout this running really win. How many championships. Together i mean. I told you a while ago. That you better when you're championships. Now 'cause janas is coming for all of them and he's coming for all of them and middleton. Is the number two on that team. Why would he not be scottie. Pippen if indeed janas wins five or six titles. i dunno. honest is going to be elevated the most And this is the most important to janas legacy after you consider what happened in the previous two postseasons when it was janas who took all the heat for sorta disappearing for underachieving and now. He's and he's had good finals. He's going to be the one who's elevated the most here. Mike why are you rolling. Your eyes stugatz. Pippen talking about a two time. All sorry guys never had all nba honors. He's going to be thirty in a couple of weeks. he's pretty we know. Chris middleton is. He is never going to become scottie. Pippen mike he hasn't played. He's had amazing games. Here in the postseason pushback you.

"To remember. He sat down before the play was executed so he didn't know he probably regretted as soon as coach at the shot because he had no leg to stand on but he sat down before. But you saw the person in his ear while he was sitting there talking him that was. Bill cartwright formanek former chicago champion former head coach. And whatever and he's always had a voice issue. You know that. Max is really compromise stuff like that. Bill cartwright walked into that locker room. After scottie pippen refuse to enter that game and and just jumped all over him with tears tears. He was very emotional. Calling scottie pippen to the carpet you let us down. He didn't use the word portrayal to my memory. But he basically highlighted you. Let us down. You weren't there for us. You sold us out. You gave up on a team which had a lot to do with why scottie pippen ended up apologize and this is what i know. This is what i know about. The armstrong's bill cartwright's the world is stacey kings of the world. Now michael jordan's are the world and others. I do know this. If phil jackson was a racist we would. I heard about that. A hell of a lot sooner than twenty seven years later after that play for toni. Kukoc coach scotty. Pippin doing what he did. Not i respect the hell out of scottie. Pippen it hurts me to say but that is just that is one of the most ridiculous and incredibly unfair allegations to throw at a former coach i to do that to any human being based off of something for twenty seven years earlier like that is just lulled especially when it's your own ego when as hard out and obviously scott as a friend of the show. He's always invited if he wants to come on and explain himself more sports or full of great moments like that perfect pass between defensemen for a one time or under the gold glove or a sweet no look alleyoop for a big time slam by when it comes to car insurance. Cowboys fans should be feeling hopeful dot telling nbc dallas guys. Take those first five games and just say we're going to be better than that as a team. We're excited that. What's your reaction to dax optimism hilarious. I see this is the part of stuff you know. The dallas cowboys are the gift that just keeps on giving. They really are. I mean they're always making headlines or something bringing attention to themselves only the flop to fall in the face. Let me ask you a question now. League dak prescott is given in the league. Max many years with a four years or whatever i mean in two thousand seventeen when they went nine seven did he say they. We're gonna stink. I mean they went tennis sixty after that when they went in at twenty nineteen did he say they were gonna be. Is that what he said. What did he say ezekiel elliott was. Go fall up a little bit. Did he say that. The defense was gonna stink. Did he say that. Mike mccarthy was an archaic coach. That didn't need to be you. Know he's always going to say something positive that to dak prescott in debit. He didn't even make any noise during the whole college. Catholics situation when people when the elephant national anthem and they were talking about covert a matter of fact the only negative hit headline that's been associated with dak prescott other than losing games to qualify teams by the way other than that. The only time he's made noise was when he tried to have a little party. You're gonna tell us that he was out this that that that's what that laws. So here's my whole point. I'm supposed to sit here and take it seriously. That prescott center this is gonna be a very very special yes. I'm glad he's very very. I mean i was waiting for him to satellite. Sammy sosa could speak english in front of congress for crying out loud. I need an interpreter. I mean very very special really okay. Any here's the deal. The dallas cowboys talent wise on paper looked like they can win the nfc. I'm going pick them to win the nfc east but do i expect anything of championship. Caliber play to come associated with the dallas cowboys. Hell no a matter of fact. I am rooting for them to be relevant for this reason. I'm told my brother. Michael irvin my. I have a little spot over there near the stadium. Some restaurant or something. I i wanna go there either there to the place where we've done. I taking a pass. Because i love it there right by. At and t. stadium. I mean i wanna go to watch a game with cowboy fans. That's what i'm going to put on my cowboy hat. Max i'm gonna have my cigar. "Scottie pippen has had some things to say lately last week calling. Okay deion doc rivers and even. I take an earlier this week on the dan. Patrick show pippen discussed the ninety four play in which phil jackson drew up a game. Winning play for teammate. Toni kukoc instead of himself which caused pippen to refuse to enter the game. Pippen with some harsh words to patrick take. Listen if you talk to fill about this because you by saying a racial move then you're you're calling fill a racist. I've got a problem with that. Do you think phil was careers stephen. What's your reaction to put comments. I respect scotty. Six time champion. All time great players. I think there's one of the stupidest most idiotic things he's ever said or done and you know the way he looked in that interview. Let me let me just say staying off. The we wouldn't be strong enough. And i'll leave it at that if you go back scott. He's got to recognize the fact that in this day and age. We have the tapes. We have the information. The game after that whole incident took place. Where scotty pippin refuse to enter the because phil jackson and drawing up a place with tony. Coup coach instead of scottie. Pippen back in the nineties. Nineteen ninety-four whenever it was the day after the next game. Rather i believe the chicago bulls had won the game when that transpired. ahmad rashad was interviewing. Scotty pippin on the court scottie. Pippen said i've apologized to the team. I've apologized to phil jackson. It was stupidity on my part. This video that you can find today because i saw it. I have it this video. Where he's literally seeing on video saying that tall ahmad rashad so now all of these years later twenty twenty seven years later phil jackson's a racist. The same phil. Jackson coached you coach. Mj the coach guys like bill cartwright in bj armstrong and others stacey king and all these guys saying phil. Jackson coached michael shaquille o'neal and kobe bryant each and every single player at some point in time or another had issues with phil jackson. Kobe bryant was on the record saying mean. He likes to coach through the media. Sometimes it annoyed the hell out of kobe. I always felt. He betrayed covy when he came. When phil jackson came out with his book. Talking about how difficult it was to coach kobe bryant. But i would never ever think to call phil jackson a racist and i don't know any player. I repeat any player who happens to be black played for phil jackson. That would call him a racist and feel scottie. Pippen and do something. Like that is just inexcusable. It really really is is low. It's really really low. Twenty seven years later if demand was a racist. Why we just hearing this from you. After all jeeves. Why now. I have a theory on that stephen a. Okay you know this theory this. This business that we're in people can say part of that is selling hot takes. What's a hot. take a hot take. You thought about something. You come to a counter intuitive conclusion. You're like i don't care if everyone else doesn't agree. I'm going to say it right. That's a hot take visit involve you believe in it. Max you leave it you believe it you okay okay. 'cause people people if you think about it for a while to say actually. I think this is not what everyone thinks. That's different than a shock. Jock remember back in the day growing up in new york. You had shot jocks on the radio. You knew they were intentionally saying stuff to shock people. Because that's how they sold advertising right. You ask why. Scottie pippen saying this now stephen. A the only thing i can say and i'm not saying i don't know what scottie pippen really believes. But he's got a book coming out and he's got a burden out right now he's got and now he's making the rounds in media saying things that you would expect from a shot job. He's saying shocking things that maybe he believes them. Maybe i'm sure he probably believes what he says. It like to thick. But he knows it's going to get attention. And he has two things that he's selling right now and i just talked about his book and his bourbon. And maybe that's why now you know what max that makes a lot of sense. I'm not going to disagree with you about that. Being a possibility you may be totally totally right. Let me say this as a black man when you say racist you better know what the hell you're talking about and you better know who the hell you're talking about. This is a very dangerous time that we're living in and it's more divisive than it's ever been as far as i'm concerned max. I can sit up the and talk about okay. This is race. This is a racist act or this resembles racist behavior. Notice how there's a dichotomy that exists. There's a line joining the sam before character. Assassinate a person by calling them racist. Just because you white and you happen to disagree with me or make me unhappy or we don't vibe in terms of thinking does not make you a racist and as a black man. I think it's incredibly important. That i say that i don't view everybody. That's white that disagrees would be what has hurt my feelings. What did i have a problem with as racist. I don't think that. And and i don't think they're scottie. Pippen should be playing for man. Winning six championships never uttered a word against phil jackson. In all those years he played for him. And then when phil left the game and came back and win it coats. The lakers and scottie pippen was on television. given analysis. Never call them that. What twenty seven years later again when you may be trying to sell a book and a bourbon. Lana whatever it is. All of a sudden the man is racist. Now max you know mean bro. I don't like phil jackson too much. Because of what he did. To my neck's i still haven't forgiven that man for stealing money from the knicks. The way that he did for sleeping on the damn job with his bad hips and everything else in between phil jackson. The coach i love phil jackson. The coach i love phil jackson the coach that was interviewed. That's the eleven tom champion. I love my problem is is that they weren't with the knicks. I'm a knicks fan so to watch the job this man did with the knicks is unconscionable okay and i have to sit up here and get away from my vitriol towards this man because of the job that he did for the knicks to a front and center and remember that i am a black man and a human being. And i'm looking at a white individual phil jackson who has a history with the knicks and had a lot of friends. They're black and white. Has french throughout the league. Black and white and a lot of people think he's an a-hole does what they say about him to. You have friends that you have enemies. No one has called him a racist. You know what else. Let scottie pippen. Just did twenty seven years. That's unconscionable it really is. What was such a bad look for. Pippen was that coup coach. Hit the shot. What coach draws up play. The dude hits the shot and wins the game. And you're complaining that you it seems selfish at the time. And in retrospect when.

"I know that a lot of people listening in manhattan or the bronx or brooklyn right. Now are saying okay. Enough of the nineties bowls. I know they beat the knicks at every. Turn and michael jordan dropped. I think he dropped fifty seven one night and madison square garden. But hear me out. This is not the story about the ninety s bowls. This is a story and microcosm piece of evidence of the disturbing trend. We are living through right now which we call critical race theory. We call it critical race theory. You can call it. Whoa chasm you could call it the new racial construct you'd call it equity this example with scotty. Pippin is the perfect example. Where you have a multi decade friendship between scottie. Pippen and phil jackson. They win six championships together. Led by michael jordan. Horace grant was on the team for a couple of years and they recruited dennis rodman for the last couple of years who played for the pistons. Probably the best sports team ever assembled. I would love anyone to try to tell me otherwise. They went six in the nineties on six championships every time they went to the finals but the new way of viewing problems and this is the way we are training. Our students to look at issues is to immediately seek racial conflict. Not look at other motives not look at other potential prerequisites. So he looks at this. What instance and dan. Patrick was a very good interviewer and was very fair. Sometimes dan patrick can be all over the place. That's a different segment for a different time or dan. Patrick said hold on scott. You said that this was racially motivated. What if phil jackson's actions such as giving the final shot. Toni kukoc who he made by. The way could have been described by other factors. What if coach had the hot hand which he did. What if phil jackson. One of the you scottie. Pippen as a decoy. Which he did. They are infinite potential explanations or why this decision twenty-six years ago was made so. Why now scotty. why now. When you're being interviewed by. Dan patrick you have to come over with your massive afro. And you looks like look like you're on four hours of sleep promoting bourbon. Do all of a sudden have to say that. Phil jackson is actually david duke. Is that the way we have to now. View the nineties bowls. The nineties bowls was actually being held hostage by nathan bedford forrest. Is that the argument. That scottie pippen is now making not to mention phil. Jackson went on to go win five titles with kobe bryant with shaquille o'neal and kobe kobe bryant and the entire los angeles lakers. Probably the most -ccomplish te basketball coach outside of john wooden in history. So why now scottie pippen. We'll because this is why scottie. Pippen has always been a bitter person. This pains me to say. I love the ninety s bowls. And i've always given scottie. Pippen hall pass scottie. Pippen has never put an ultimate purpose above himself. He delayed a late season surgery at the last final championship. Run in the six year over the summer. He delayed it intentionally. Because you wanted to enjoy the summer and michael jordan even said that was a mistake. Remember this in cut fifty eight. This news report is when scottie pippen refused to play the last one point. Eight seconds of a tied playoff game because you got upset at the coach. Cut fifty eight. Why was bowls all star team. Leader scotty pippin. On the bench at the crucial climax of last night's showdown with new york phil jackson believes got pippen's defection with a combination of a number of frustrating incident leading up the patrick ewing's game-tying basket with less than two seconds. Left in the game the bulls call a time out and designed the flavor. Toni kukoc gotti pippen refused to go back in instead he went to the end of the bench hitting a second time out and new coach made the shot. Look scotty pippin is a bitter person and the critical waste grace theory. The woke the equity way of viewing the world empowers bidder people and it suffocates gratitude. Instead of scottie pippen saying you know. I made millions of dollars and i was underpaid but i signed that contract. I made right by my family but we won six titles. We won gold medals. We are the top of the world instead he decides to play into bitterness. Scotty can finally be important again by playing the victim and attacking his wonderful coach. Who nothing but decent scottie. Pippen and understanding and patient with his childlike attitude the garbage of critical race theory and how it trains people to think will destroy every single black and white relationship in this beautiful country. Scottie pippen use the defend phil jackson and honor him but now he's empowered to call. The leader of the greatest team ever assembled the worst thing. You can call somebody a racist. And if it can happen between scottie. Pippen and phil jackson. It'll happen between every single white and black friendship and relationship in america. We say they're trying to divide us. They are and use this as an example. If they can divide the nineties bowls they can divide our entire mation. This is an example of what we are teaching our children. Thanks so much for listening everybody. Email us your thoughts. Freedom at charlie. Kirk dot com. And if you want to support our program who to charlie kirk dot com slash support..
Scottie Pippen Accuses Phil Jackson of Being Racist
"Retired NBA star Scottie Pippen says retired La Laker and Chicago Bulls coach Phil Jackson is a racist. Why do you recall that pivotal playoff game when Michael Jordan was playing baseball in the Chicago Bulls still did? Well, their star now with Scottie Pippen and a pivotal point in the game, Phil Jackson called a play for a white player named Tony Ku coach. And Scottie Pippen was so angry he refused to go on the court. Remember that people later on, apologize for and let the team down yada, blah, etcetera. He now says Phil Jackson made his decision because wait for it. Phil Jackson is

In Latest Twitter Confrontation, Kevin Durant Claps Back at Scottie Pippen
"Interview got posted. And like 11. Minutes later, Cady had tweeted at Scottie Pippen twice. And he went there. He went right to Scott. He's two biggest weaknesses. Scotty's biggest weakness is not that he was robbing that he was the second best player on historically great teams. That's not a weakness. Scottie Pippen is a first ballot Hall of Fame top 50 all time player who have anything I think is under appreciated as an all time great His two weaknesses are the 1.8 seconds when he didn't go in the game when Phil draws up a play for KU coach. And then the fact that they should, and they showed this in last dance that he chose to get surgery at the start of a season rather than during the summer because he was aggravated about his contractual situation. His last year in Chicago, the 97 98 season. All of that was in last dance. And so Kevin Durant tweets about both of those

That would be actually a really good match up to see scotty. Prime defense on awesome on kevin durant. That would be a fantastic battle. There so is going to end higher on a majority of people's lists that scottie. Pippen think i don't think if not half pass overall as a bit play. What were you telling us about his schedule when his team has games. Yeah well it's interesting personal. He'll tell friends like hey or one o'clock game in tampa means. I'm in the pool in my backyard by four thirty pm. He loves the lifestyle that he ultimately chose and found in tampa and that was part of it like yes. He was pursuing more super bowls. When he left new england yes he loved the idea of adding to his legacy but he also felt like he wanted a new challenge of fun challenge in a new fun place and he feels like he found that he is living his best life while also still succeeding on the field. So look he's got a beautiful boat a beautiful pool. He's enjoying life at this point while also piling up bodies it's fascinating and quite honestly. I don't personally want to see it end anytime soon. He has generally set himself up. Go ahead final. Thought no regard you and him and tom have a lot in common green. "Head. Or at somebody to tell kevin about that episode. I eat away. I don't really have a problem with both of these guys. Got sort of lifting their leg. Right that's what they're doing dogs marking their territory. That's really what this is about And i think overall scottie pippen was just trying to make the point but kevin durant is league level player and after what he did and that last series. It kind of reminded everybody greatest. But he's still say listen but he's still lebron james and all of the different ways that lebron could beat you if he had to in that moment rather than just going and trying to score. Event took place may of ninety four. The old chicago stadium game three against the knicks. I was in the building. It is the lowest point of scottie. Pippen's brilliant career that said pj. Let's analyze specifically what he said. He's basically saying yeah k. D. put an unbelievable offensive show but what he didn't do was figure out a way to utilize his teammates to win the series and lebron would have is that a reasonable enormous of the situation because his teammates didn't show up. You have no choice. Had teammates throwing the ball to them anytime. somebody's open. Katie is gonna get you the mall. His teammates not making shots. Did kevin get exhausted. Yes he did with good reason. Fifty three minutes and forty eight minutes. I had no problem with the way he played If i way back in time if i was coaching kevin is a young guy. At say you don't need to do this. You're you're better than that. You don't need to He's a man now he's got. Mvp's he's got rings. He can do whatever he wants. I don't mind he is an historian would not surprise me at all that he knew the history and that he would fire back he he reads it. You find him answering these things regularly. So if it's important to him go for it but i think unfair criticism. Lebron didn't get the lakers pass phoenix. That's unfair to say. That is really comment to say it's kevin's fault. They didn't beat a box. That's ridiculous yeah and to your point anyone who follows kevin durant. He responds to everything and everyone all the time. It's a hall of famer like scottie. Pippin or someone. With forty seven followers kevin durant will respond to the things they say legs. Let me just get a quick take you on that. Did you see room for criticism. In the way tried to carry his team through that series. No absolutely not. pj's right. I mean look even go back to the last possession. They kevin durant did. He's bringing the ball to floor. He looks over to his right. Who does he see. James harden oh here we go james smith. Thank you help me out. And then as soon as he threw a told me realize wait. That's not james harden that's a cardboard cutout of james harden. He's only got one leg. Let me run over there and get the ball back from him and now go operate a one on one situation so no. I don't have a problem. You guys on that team. Joe harris be great example. He had an opportunity at one eleven on a wide open. Look that probably ends. The game ends the series gets brooklyn to the next route missed it. He struggled throughout the series. James harden's plano. one lake. Kyrie irving is in street clothes. No i honestly don't have a problem. With what kevin durant was trying to do. It's just he. Could it be superhuman all the way through and on that last possession against the guy that you holiday who got low has a low center of gravity. He was not going to let them go by durant. Just said you know what this is. All i have right now. One more fadeaway jumper and it came up short but he looked around and read the room and said i have to do this myself right now every possession and it was just too much to ask in the end. He was literally an inch from winning that series by himself and regulation guys. Sit tight scotty. Had some things to say about. Ben simmons i wanna get to a little later in this hour.

"You're not going to keep them bottled up the whole time but the relentless pressure that they have put on him over the last two games has dramatically affected their offense because he just cannot find a rhythm and they have built their offense to large extent around his rhythm and right. Now they're trying to figure out how to operate without that chris. Paul wasn't very good last night. Offensively either he missed. Some time came back. I expected him to be a little bit rusty. He also looked a little bit. Slow to me. I didn't like the pace. They were playing out. I thought it played into the hands of very physical clippers. Defense against both of those guys so i think it's a very complete team the sons. It wasn't a barrage what we watched all year. This is a very very good cheap. And i do think ultimately they will win this series. But there's no question now. The clippers have life and game. Four to me is going to determine whether they actually can make this a real series and go seven games night. So we'll wait and see what they're able to do with that one there. In the meantime as that is to phoenix in the west and the east will continue tonight. There's another story percolating around the nba. That i wanted to get you guys perspective on and that is there's nothing better than when superstars are beefing with each other and right now. They're doing it very publicly so let me set the story for you here. If i can't scottie pippin making news and the release of a wide ranging interview with g. q. in it he talked about among other things. The difference between lebron james and kevin durant he said katie can score better than lebron probably always been able to but as you surpassed lebron no. He tried to beat them. Milwaukee bucks instead of utilizing team. Lebron would have figured out how to beat them. He wouldn't have been exhausted. He may not have taken the last shot. But the brawny k. d. and k. d. lebron katie is a shooter a score. But he doesn't have. What lebron has scottie. Pippen said that kevin durant is generally not one who just ignores things like that so. He responded not once but twice on twitter i. He didn't the great scottie. Pippen refused to go in the game for the last second shot because he was in his feelings as coach drew up the play for a better shooter and then he tweeted. This guy scott also wanted to enjoy his summer so we chose to rehab during the season. Ll joe scottie pippen. They followed phil not us. So i suppose there's a couple of different ways to look at this one is. We're in the interesting business. This is interesting stuff. So it's okay. The other is it's beneath to people of this stature to be having this kind of discourse on social media on which side of that do you fall tim legwork. Look i'm okay with it. I i don't mind guys. That are also grades. Historically get after a little bit of social media. Let's social media. Is the platform now to hear these kinds of things. I think the thing that kinda surprised me about this. I don't know somebody told kevin durant about that. Episode was scotty pippin What he basically refused to go into game while they drop play for toni kukoc because he was probably what about ten years. Old monette happened. I don't know that much of an nba historian. Kevin durant had that kind of recall at the top of his.

The Bare Bones HUD for Tourneys and Anonymous Sites
"So the barebones hud has seven elements to it. I'm gonna hit them each one at a time right now but i forgot to mention this earlier before the combat if you go to the show notes page for today smart booker said dot com slash bare bones hud. You can see a youtube video. That i posted there showing exactly how to create the seven element hood for yourself already. So the first element is the note editor now. This is in poker tracker for the no editor is super important because it's necessary for color coating your opponents by player type once you make some kind of read on them also in case you want to put a player note for when you're reviewing hands later on that note editor is important and lastly within the note editor if you've never actually opened up and take a look or taken a look. There is an auto notes feature that list. The hands that your opponent has shown down and how they played them pre flop did they three bit with pocket kings did they call with pocket kings. Whatever might be now. The second element is the player name now of course this is especially useful for tournaments when players. Come and go right as you're playing. You're paying attention to the action or paying attention to another table. Maybe and you might miss that. Bob one-two-three he left the table and is replaced by susan. Seven eight nine but that hud sometimes doesn't catch up for one or two hands so it's a really good idea to see that name. Make sure they correspond when they do. You know those hud stats belong to that player and now you can make some reads based on the base on the percentages to exploit them all right. The third element is the number of hands. Of course the more hands you have on a player just the more reliable. The numbers are in general. I think that reliability kind of begins at eighteen hands. If you're playing six. Max that's three orbits or flooring to orbits right so everybody has seen every position at least twice or three times. You start to develop reads right there. I'm not saying it's one hundred percent reliable. But that's where it begins. Eighteen hands two. Or three rounds. However you can start to understand your opponent after just four hands. Truly if they're v. Pippen forehands is one hundred percent. You're likely against a lose player right likely. Not one hundred percent sure but it's pretty close loose play right. There played for hands out of the four that you've seen them and being dealt if there is zero percent in twelve hands very likely a tight player now. Let's couple this with some other stuff right. If they're veep hip in four hands is one hundred percent. And you're thinking to yourself sky. That's not good enough to know that he's a loose player. Well what if you've been paying attention and you've seen those forehands where he v pipped two times. He called a to bet the two other times he limped and called a raise. Yeah now that you couple the actual actions. They've made with that one. Hundred percent v pip. You are up against super loose and passive fish and it's only been four hands but here's one of the critical things you've got to be willing to change any early. Read that you make. Because as you play more hands their stats are gonna converge to their actual tendencies. And maybe that's around fifty sixty hands or so and anything beyond that one hundred two hundred and you get yet. You're pretty darn certain that those numbers are they're tendencies and you can really start to exploit it then all right. So those first three things were elements not statistical elements but just useful parts of the hud. These next two right here are where the stats start in. These two are the most critical stats to have v. pip and pf are now these an initial read on their player type over time. Like i said everyone's tendencies play out and the numbers converge and you can be pretty confident that that forty slash five player. Yeah super loos fish right the other eighteen slash six team player totally tied aggressive. That's probably what your stats end up in the long run and that other guy thirty three slash twenty-seven yeah super loose aggressive player. Right and that other player even the maniac fifty slash forty two you have super maniacal player now by knowing their player type and just using. Epfr to get you that you can better play the player with your list of general exploits that you know work against each player type

The Weeknd will perform live at the Super Bowl LV halftime show
"We have our super bowl. Halftime performer is officially the weekend. He'll be performing at the super bowl this year. It's all very interesting to be honest. I can't even forgot about like i know. Football season is happening. i've talked about. I have a football podcast. I talked about it every week but the super bowl halftime show Was something. I wasn't thinking about just because concerts have been cancelled and we haven't seen any really live shows so it took me by surprise i was like. Oh wow. that's something that is that is still happening. But the weekend is ultra ultra ultra talented. And he'll find like a way to make this very cool. I'm sure all of his performances are insane. He does a phenomenal job. Every single time he gets up on stage at an award show or whatever it is he really puts in a lot of effort and really makes a statement and makes people think with his performances. Which i think is going to be really cool for the super bowl obviously shakira and j. last year and everybody was excited for that. They were shaking their asses up on stage singing controversially. Yeah some people were pissed but let me tell you we were loving us not definitely not at all. I support that one hundred percent. And they were up there looking. Fantastic jalen shakira. How can you not be excited about that. So i feel like the weekend is going to have a little bit of a different reaction. Just because i feel like older people do know jaylo and shakira. More than they know the weekend i be like younger. People know the weekend a bit better than older people do so it will be interesting to see the reaction but i know that he's gonna put on a fantastic performance like weekend his grade. He's super talented. Has major hits bangers and people are going to be having sex immediately after they're just going to be so turned on from the weekends performance that yeah they're going to be banging after the he's he i. It is going to be funny to see the older generation reaction. Because i think that if people are not familiar with the weekend they're gonna watch this performance which i'm which i'm sure is going to be incredible and like just theatrically very very cool and we're gonna see tweets from older people being like wow great performance from the weekend like spelled actualize the weekends or four saturday and sunday able exactly. But it'll be it'll be a good one. I'm i think they are having people at the super bowl or smaller. Small capacity like the super bowl in tampa bay's so people are at tampa bay games right now like you can go to a bucks game so i think it would feel the same kind of thing like anything could change like a few months. Oh turn hundred percent. The everything's changing rapidly where we are right now so who knows what could happen by the time. This goes down but it is also florida. So we'll we'll have to wait and see. They definitely make some changes. Whatever the weekend does will be geared for television. He'll they won't be able to have all the people run out onto the field with signs or lights or anything. It's going to have to be mostly geared for a television performance.
Larsa Pippen Blames Kanye For Kim K. Friendship Demise
"This is sad but larger. Pippen is talking about her falling out with Kim Kardashian and she and sisters and saying that it's all Kanye West's fault. Because Kanye was brainwashed the Kardashians against her. If only it were that easy, right feel like it might be a little bit of the other way around. But tell me more well. Larsson. She's talking about a podcast talking about the rift beginning earlier this year because Kanye didn't trust anyone with Kim Kardashian, which led to Larson and Kim on following each other on Social media. Then Lars believes that Kanye got Kourtney and Khloe to turn on her, too, by making her out to be a bad seed, even though she said she had nothing but love for all of them. Oh, man, rich people problems. You guys. Just larcenous is a sheen Can you never had any serious altercations, But she does mention A new alleged incident between herself and Travis Scott that could've set off Kanye so she's just like it's everybody else's fault. But mine s o. I mean,

"This is the Dan Patrick show Richard Jefferson. I think he might have been on ESPN former N Ba player said that Johannes is Scottie Pippen. Basically, he needs a Michael Jordan now what he had said this. If the Bucks were up two games to none on the answers, I get it. Everybody wants to have a hot take. And then you had J. Williams, former NBA player on the mother ship, and then he said, You know LeBron was Scottie Pippen, Dwayne Wade in Miami. Come on here. Easy here think LeBron was brilliant enough to let Dwayne Wade I think the impression was that it was Dwayne wage team. LeBron was the star and LeBron is a natural share of the ball. But now all of a sudden, we're divvying up. Who's Pippen? And who is Jordan? First of all, there's on Ly one Pippen in one Jordan here and to say you got to go out and get yourself a Jordan. Greek freak is Piton. It's a horrible analogy. First of all, Pippen is as decorated as anybody in the history of the game Winning championships. Defensive player of the year being all in Ba and Greek freak hadn't won anything yet, but to say he's more like Pippen. Okay, you let me know when you get Jordan there, Richard Because I I'm really interested in that I wouldn't hold my breath for the next Michael Jordan is somehow going to end up with a great free so he could be Scottie Pippen. Scottie Pippen also commented on it where he was just like Whoa, sort of hold up but rigid. So who are you blaming me? If you want to know what Dan Patrick said. Next? Moussa Cisse is going to Memphis
"See say five star prospect originally in the class two thousand twenty one, but now I'm class. Two Thousand Twenty announced this afternoon that he is committed to the University of Memphis. Pippen Hardaway's Tigers over offers from Georgetown Georgia. Florida State Lsu and Kentucky for those unfamiliar. I guess you can on some level. Call him a quote local product because he did spend the past year at Lausanne collegiate school, which is seven miles from the Memphis. MEMPHIS campus, but he's not really a local product. He was born in West. Africa moved to New York, in two thousand, fifteen played at Saint Benedict's prep in New Jersey played at Christ King in New York, then relocated a Memphis, the plate laws and this past season led the links to a state title, one Mr Basketball and the state of Tennessee average eighteen point, four points, fifteen point, three rebounds, and a ridiculous nine point two blocks per game, and now we have college basketball season. He says he'll play for the Memphis Tigers. norlander break it down. What do you make a penny? Hardaway lending a five star center in two straight recruiting classes last time. It was James Wiseman this time Mussa. Break it down Oh. Yeah, here's what I got a question for you I. Mean Here's here's was Gary Perez? Is tweet on Wednesday afternoon breaking all caps course. This was an all caps breaking the way I don't i. You know what expected to go to Memphis. I. Don't know if all caps was warranted there. Can you take me inside the thought process versus not in a? Regular grammar versus going all caps in that moment, please. Young Mussa say follows exactly ten people on twitter. I am one of them, and so I wanted to make sure he he saw how much emphasis I put on his commitment. How do I just know that two four six years from now if and when Lucy say is? Able to earn a consistent NBA paycheck, and perhaps it's even a player of of importance in the NBA. Gary Parrish will never ever ever forget or forget to remind people that there was one point in time and Mussa CCA followed ten people on twitter. And he was one of them. I honestly don't even understand it. Because like he used to follow a lot of people on twitter, I noticed and. One of them was not me, and then suddenly he cut almost everybody, but added me I don't really even know the connection there, but. I want I knew he'd see the tweet. And once I knew each the tweet I wanted to I wanted him to experience in all. Caps tweet obviously as as faithful podcast, listeners will know. Also one Moussa, see say. was tutored by your own son so I think. That might also be an influence. Parish working behind the scenes to get it done for Memphis. You've gotta admire actually ironically enough this happening in a week where parish is not on his local radio show. The conspiracy only strengthens. Okay, so here's what here's my question for you. you say the six eleven likely one and done talent averaged. Eighteen point four points, fifteen point, three rebounds and nine point two blocks last season pick memphis over Georgetown. Tom Kriens Georgia bulldogs Kentucky and Lsu. My question is. Who the hell is this guy planning? Nine point two blocks a game what? I have not I have. It's private school basketball in the state of Tennessee so? Took it over people who look like my oldest son in some cases like the blogging. What after another like I don't know I never been to a laws and basketball game and I've never even actually met. Say although it is true, my son and Mussa. Were classmates in my son to tutor him in in certain classes I. I don't even know if say knows that. My son is his classmate. He might, but I don't know that I've never I've never even had a real conversation about Mussa with my son. Other than so, what kind of young man is he and was like really nice? Really Really Nice guy like you know doesn't walk around like some big time. Basketball player I the only other times. I would talk to myself about Moses. Like Hey, did you see that dunk? That was on instagram last night or something like that? Because like fans are crazy, and at one point, the two schools involved in the Memphis in. RECRUITMENT MOST HEAVILY WE'RE MEMPHIS IN KENTUCKY and I'm like it doesn't matter what happens I. will somebody connected to one of those fan? Bases will blame me for it if HE GOES TO MEMPHIS, Kentucky fans it'd be because I pushed into Memphis somehow through my son, and if he goes to Kentucky Memphis fans, it'd be like see parish eight says all the modern salads like I'm not even getting involved. The only time my son had ever been asked about Mussa as recruitment. That I witnessed was one of my friends recently asked him when they were over at the house, and my son's answer was he always talked about? Georgetown but I don't think he's going to go to Georgetown and that was the extent of it. So he was right. Maybe my son's got a future and being a recruiting analyst, right?

Horace Grant defends Scottie Pippen, questions specific aspects of 'The Last Dance'
"Thing about horse Horace was not just based on his own behalf he was pissed for Scotty Pippen is well because aside from Jordan giving some praise to paper early in the series most of the talk about Pippin was about all these low moments I remember being hold on call the number two guy decorated it's gotten papers put three so badly in terms of the moderate in terms of the one point six or seven seconds Selfridge I I have never seen this and all of my life in the respect of people out there I think games six could barely walk do not down on his back try to do whatever he could to help the team but my my my point is while I was at one point sixty seven seconds in the documentary so called documentary about it will be with only eighteen while they're in there we handle that very year really well as a team he he was wrong for doing that well you're still we went after the game we'll do it up there we have to say bill car right and then we handle it was over it was over we go on the techniques to seven games told me it was over why bring that up that's my question everybody out there is listening it's always grant and it's a fair question if this series is about the final season the so called last dance why was something from four years earlier included something that Jordan was not even therefore he was out playing baseball that didn't concern him he was on that team as Horace said the team handle it in the paper knew it was wrong even though people did say if the documentary that he would not change anything anyway if this was about Michael Jordan's version of the final season why was something that did not involve Michael Jordan why was that given so much time in the dock why was it so important to Jordan to bring up the lowest point of Pippen's career and if you want to say yeah well because that was important believe me he left out a lot of important things so why was it important to him to put that in there

"pippen" Discussed on Open Floor: SI's NBA Show
"What's up opened foreclose this Bengal The Washington Post? I am joined on the other line as always by Michael. The pod Pena now Michael. We have a foot episode. I think to to talk about here because over the weekend. The last dance quickly refreshed our memory about it kind of an infamous episode in NBA history. That would be Scottie. Pippen quitting flat out quitting on the Chicago Bulls during the nineteen ninety-four playoffs against the New York Knicks. For those who didn't see it or don't remember. The score was tied. One point. Eight seconds left the Bulls are already down to zero in the series. The whole season is on the line. Phil Jackson draws up a play For the final shot for Tony. Coup coach with Scottie. Pippin inbounding the basketball pippen at this point a three time. Champion cuco coach at this point a rookie pippen. I rate in the moment decide simply to sit down on the bench. Not Check into the Game Phil Jackson says. Hey man are you in our out. Scotty says I'm out. Phil has to replace him. What do you know Toni? Kukoc coach hits the shot making Scottie. Pippen look basically as bad as possible in that particular moment The fallout was pretty swift. Bulls teammates upset. Bill Cartwright in the locker room gives a tearful speech about how Scotty let everyone down. Steve Kerr is trying to wrap his mind around. This idea. That pippin has acted so out of character and the biggest moment of the season. And you know the initial fallout from not perspective. Wasn't horrible. They regrouped They won game. Four Pippen played pretty well. They pushed the series to seven games but ultimate they ultimately they lost. But this situation absolutely lingered with Scottie. Pippen in no small part because the words Quinton and pippen nearly rhyme and everyone was able to figure that out Michael so now that we're twenty six years removed from that incident. I want to just ask you. First off with Scottie. Pippen in the right was he definitely wrong. Was He. Guilty of a basketball sin. That will follow him forever. What's your take on that incredible? See so yeah. I haven't seen the episode yet so I don't know exactly how in depth they went into it but I mean my take on. This is that. There's a human element here. That's understandable Scottie. Pippen and like if you're him you're underpaid forever Jordan finally leaves. You're still underpaid. You're making I went back and was reading about this game and kind of the the setting of what was happening with the Bulls and Scotty at the time and he was making half as much as Tony Coach. And so this guy who plays the same position as you is an import from Croatia and Phil. Jackson picks him to get the last shot. And so I understand why Scottie. Pippen is frustrated and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. I would imagine in his brain and he just broke a fruit. And it's just it's it's it's understandable. I mean it's also inexcusable. And not what you see every day from frustrated basketball players who have to deal with things in in every game you know but I see where he's coming from. I don't think it's the biggest deal of all time. It's a little unprofessional. But when I think of Scottie Pippen I don't think of this game at all. Very interesting Well I think of the titles I for sure and I'm trying to imagine what would have happened. Had he done this Before ever winning a title and how much that would have stuck to them. I mean I think he even got some flack from the migraine game against the Pistons. Which to me. It's like you can't hold that against him. I mean he's he's honestly. I consider that an injury but this is like a willful choice. Right and what's fascinating is the power dynamics back then right because as we know in the modern MBA if superstars doesn't like the play. It's not just. I'm going to sit down on the bench all the the the opportunities that he has to either change the play have a discussion Ultimately try to bend the reality towards his side and we saw that happen in the two thousand fifteen playoffs when Lebron James scratched a last second play by David Blatt in a very similar situation changes things up so he's not going to be the inbounder he's the one who gets to receive the pass. He drains the game winning shot and then to just really rub it into his coach who he clearly didn't really respect trust. He winds up getting on the podium and telling everyone what he did that that he scratched the play in that basically wanted him to inbound the ball and boy what an idiot blad is was sort of the main takeaway from that scene. So I think to me one of the the biggest lessons of the pippen experiences that it was kind of a product of its time. You know like you're mentioning. The salary stuff is really important. Not only was he not really making that much money but he was on a long term contract right. He had no leverage whatsoever if he was upset What was he really going to do about it? And I think with the modern superstar players not only are they making ten times what Scottie Pippen made but they also have shorter term contracts and they also often have player options right so there's constantly that threat of a player leaving so you have to keep them happy. I guess my point is Phil Jackson and the Bulls didn't need to cater every single situation to Scotty. Because ultimately they were in a position to take him for granted right. Now I mean that's one hundred percent correct and the differences between Scottie. Pippen and Phil Jackson and Lebron David. Bladder are just kind of obvious. I mean Phil Jackson's coming off three straight titles. As a head coach. He cemented himself as a local legend and when he says when he draws up a play. Chances are it's it's for a particular reason and Toni. Kukoc did hit the shot and they and they won the game. They're second in a row. They're dropping game one. I believe in that series so for sure I mean. Let's let's dig into that part because this play not that great. I mean as a really tough shot. Recoup coach hits it right and like it's a masterful shot by him but he and he had a couple Game winners or lay lay game shots that season for the Bulls but from a percentage basis pippen was a more efficient shooter than Cuco. She was a more experienced player. He'd been in a lot of bigger moments in the NBA. Anyways the first postseason for coach. I think it was his sixth overall game ever in the playoffs so I guess I'm coming back to your original point. Was you know pippen had a lot of justify reasons to be upset with that decision? Right and Do you understand where Phil was coming on this thing at all like? Why was this his idea? Do you have any idea? No I mean I was literally about to ask you. The exact same question has did fill in the dock. Explain why he went with coach? Did he even address the situation more on a XS and OS level than an emotional level? And because like I would imagine that it's like I have Scotty. The defense knows that we're going to go to Scotty. Pippin here and Tony coaches a perfect kind of I guess he's the diversion that Scott. We are in a better position. If we have Scottie pippen the diversion and we go to Tony. Who's capable of hitting a big shot? And so it's kind of just an unexpected move. That would be my guess as to what fills mentality was at the time. I don't know though did did they go into it. And the duck. No he didn't really address it. I think that I mean one defense would be pippen's your best passer. So he's your inbounder. And so the best possible combination of passer and shotmaker would be ping and coach if you try to have pitted the shotmaker. Maybe you have a `laisserpasser inbounding the ball. It could have also been the fact that coach it hit some shots earlier in the season that gave Phil confidence in him. Also been that Just a surprise element you know. Maybe York's knock bearing for coach to have the ball now moment. I mean there's a couple of different explanations I mean it could have also been a zen mastermind game on pip. I mean who knows right like there's that legendary aspect too of like what was bill thinking but I wanna Kinda return this idea of like. How much has changed between then? And now? Because as you mentioned you know Phil has established himself as an icon. At that point. He's already won three titles They have this big over achieving season without Jordan. So like the Phil Jackson myth making is really going full bore and same deal for Scotty. I mean he was third in. Mvp voting that year had an incredible season fifty five winds. And that's no joke and so I think there aren't very many coaches in the modern. Mba Right now. Who would have the same level of security as Phil Jackson back then? Like how many guys do you think are even kind of in a comparable position where they would be able to go away from their star player in a big moment? I mean Gregg. Popovich comes to mind May maybe doc rivers. I mean he's got a couple of guys you could go to but still I really feel like Hawaii. Take just about every shot ducks not an idiot. Right lesson our thing too is that catering to star players has become good business for coaches right. Because they're just getting fired left and right constantly so they've sort of got that message loud and clear. But how many coaches do you think are kind of in that spot to pull a fill not a lot? I mean the thing with like it's the contrast here of just wanting to utilize your star player but then as we've talked about earlier like the fact that the star player has the leverage so even though Doc rivers has enormous clout he's an enormously high respect level around the League Kawhi Leonard. Paul George are have constructed their contracts so that they could bounce it any point so they they have the maximum leverage. I mean it. That's just kind of what the League is today? So I mean some coaches that. Come TO MIND. I guess like Erik Spoelstra. Probably it makes me think of the situation recently with the Celtics and Brad Stevens and Kyrie Irving when he was there and that Buck Series. And it's not the exact same thing of you know going back to just one end of game situation but Brad Stevens probably should have benched. Kyrie Irving in that series just because of how ridiculously out of control. He was in a lot of ways and he didn't for whatever reason and so I mean I think when I save whatever reason the the reason is that they want to resign every irving and keep Kyrie irving happy. The reason is that amorphous politics right now. Everybody always calls it the politics of benching. Kyrie in that moment Did Not favour even guy as well respected as Brad Stevens. Yeah one hundred percents. So there's just there's not a lot of coaches here. I mean we're about to talk about some some quitters throughout NBA history. That come to mind and Rick Carlisle. That's another coach. That could probably get away with some things because he has the championship. But like it's just it's really. It's a really short shortlist. I can't think of really any other names for sure. Like the coaching. Salaries have increased as well since the ninety S. No question right. But they haven't increased as fast as the players salaries and I think that the the fact that players have done these team up scenarios that were in the player empowerment era where your entire organization hinges on a guys mood. Right has basically have all sorts of ramifications inside effects. I mean this idea that you would ever want your best player to be pouting because of something your coach did is like now anathema. Right like that's just not acceptable and it is just a very different environment than what pippen was living through back. Then I do want to return to that. Popovich example real quick and I mentioned this in my Washington Post newsletter on this subject encourage everyone to go read it so. Popovich had very interesting. Lay game situation..
