Can a new constitution solve Chile's old problems?
"People in Chile will head to the polls later today to vote on whether or not to rewrite the country's constitution. President Sebastian Pinera agreed to hold a referendum after major anti government protests broke out last year. Is Katie Watson. Villains will be voting on two questions this weekend. First, they'll need to decide whether or not they want a new constitution. Then they need to choose what kind of body should draw it up. The options are a mixed assembly of politicians and elected members or a body entirely elected by the popular vote. Those who supported change say there's no place for a dictatorship era constitution in a modern democracy, But many others feel that the current constitution helped build a stable and prosperous economy. They worry that this process could derail

"Do it don't do it without a virtual private network or VPN you know bad guys can sit in the Pinera quality where where there's public wifi indeed if the public wifi is not configured securely and you don't have a virtual private network it's entirely possible for them to literally sucked down every single thing you hide that fact so in general you should not do any sort of shopping or do anything of a sensitive nature anything financial anything with sensitive personal information from public why five you don't understand the security that network especially if you don't have the pier I just don't do it period but for some people if you feel obligated don't do it without a VPN enable multifactor authentication on all your accounts if you have an Amazon account if you have a Walmart account anything that you can turn on multi factor authentication two factor authentication that's gonna make it much harder for the bad guys to break into your account your money even if they do get your password course you did password on every site yep look for the lock look for the H. B. C. F. in the browser now I want to caution people because for a long time that was like if it's got the loss you're good but that's only half true the lock simply means that the H. T. TPS means that they have taken the time to get a certificate so that they can use encryption and encrypted data that's being sent from your device to their server and vice versa well the bad guy can get a certificate to but there's nothing that would stop me as a bad guy from let's say putting a doppelganger look alike website of target yeah and scraping everything off of it getting a certificate so you see that walking you think your state you should not buy anything or ever share any sensitive information if you don't see that lock or the H. T. T. P. S. just because the player does is not a hundred percent guaranteed that you're dealing with a legitimate fight it's really important for people to understand that which goes back to try to stick to reputable cited that the thing to do your homework and you know the standard if you have any virus you should update your software regularly check your statements if you shop online check your statement to make sure you don't see bogus charges after some pretty good tips that will mostly keep you secure and I and I actually I actually fell victim quote unquote to one the spoof sites not that long ago and I felt so bad because obviously you're here all the time coaching me through this and it was for of all things U. S. P. S. it was for the postal service someone spoofed the postal service website looks exactly the same I was able to charge my credit card luckily my bank they got read the charge they understood it was a spoof website and because of you Sir I did report it to the FBI so there you go right I do I did my part as a as a citizen even though my my cook you know my bank was able to help me out I major yes of course when I skip which is if you're going to shop online don't use a debit card use a credit card because it refused even though you need to be disciplined right about using a credit card and paying it off it reduces your exposure you know obviously if you use a debit card they could potentially during your entire account with a credit card you get all those additional protection so that's another important tip you can shop online use a credit card if you do unfortunately get hit with a scammer some type of fraud report it and I appreciate the fact that you just mention that happened so many people won't talk about the things they won't admit it and the bad guys are very very good at creating these pulled the sites and much easier than you would realize it really it really is and they look so realistic at this point you can't even tell you can't you can't tell you can't tell anyone in lecture extremely technically savvy and you know how to dig into the innards of it it will be virtually impossible to tell in many cases the fight and with that Damon will let you go enjoy the rest of your weekend hello my pleasure talk to you soon yeah we'll probably talk again next week I'm sure because there's always more but unfortunately cyber crime to talk about thank you dear bye coming up it's our favorite part of the show is the fast break we can get to that after this break on seven hundred WLW I'm going to take the dog out for a walk yeah be sure to take us a long if you've got your phone you've got us that school the seven hundred WLW live stream on the I heart radio at somewhere out there there's a man on a park bench eating his five hundredth P. "Good old blues image and Mike Pinera before he left the group to become the lead singer for iron butterfly so there's him singing sober as opposed to what happens in the god of the visa when he pretty stoned well they're saying in that song but it wasn't you know we're talking about music earlier and the I I would be remiss if I didn't make the connection here so pardon me that I didn't say it earlier I probably should've up but just as we are taking that last call from Janet in the East Village and she was talking about Woody Guthrie and she's talking about you know that this idea about music and coded messages and everything that had come up because of Wade in the water which had mentioned in the first hour we've got a show kind of like this coming up tomorrow night on coast to coast up Brad Schreiber is a music historian and a journalist and he's written is very cool book which I've been enjoying it a lot of I'll finish it tomorrow but it's all about the history of musicians who use music to fight for a better world so it's kind of like this a lot of songs that are coded songs that were at the time you know in their own times politically conscious songs which now we just kind of take for granted we don't even we may not even remember the original context of the of the record or why it was popular or why it was controversial in its day but you know country heavy metal psychedelia rap punk little come up tomorrow night we talk about the secrets behind a lot of these politically charged songs in our modern era tomorrow night with Brad Schreiber and in the first hour looking forward to talking with the my old friend David Mack David Mack is the guy who's behind so many of the beautiful illustrations for Marvel Comics is involved in a very cool new project for Marvel Comics social talk about but also he got nominated for three Eisner awards for his work on his Rafic novel series which he introduced here on coast to coast but the graphic novel series is called cover and it was about a cover artist much like himself who gets a job it sort of tapped to become part of an underworld of assassins I'll leave it there for now but the first book is out in the first collection of these individual episodes of cover is not been collected into a graphic novel but he's got three Eisner awards we'll talk about that with him in the first hour always cool open lines coming up next back to you coast to coast AM this is Ian Punnett just because you can boil water doesn't mean you should run a restaurant the same logic goes for identity theft protection and you may be good at monitoring your credit but that doesn't make you an authority plus with data breaches that seem to happen more and more your personal information could end up anywhere and with your breached information criminals could commit identity theft which is even more reason to use a parole because on your own you could miss certain identity threats like someone taking out a payday loan in your name or something your info on the dark web that's why LifeLock sees a wide range of identity threats no one can prevent all identity theft to monitor all transactions at all businesses but if you end up with an identity theft.

"Schedule is ready to show the show blood to be hanging out with you seven zero two two five seven five three nine six is how you weigh into the program we are talking about getting back to normal things are getting back to normal I've been out for a little drive today went by Pinera to get myself my favorite chicken walnut St which had to stop by the hardware store did a few things before I had to jump into studio here and get some things done and seems things are getting back to some normalcy a little bit and that's good but it's not completely there yet why is the big question why isn't it there yet why aren't casinos opened yet why don't we have a firm date yet Arizona open their casinos today Hariz auction had a line as long as a football field probably three times over waiting waiting to get in to gamble to eat some food at nine AM this morning why can't we do something similar in scope the social distancing the guidelines fine Arizona's find following guidelines why can't we do that this is why we have to keep asking the inept Sisolak why can't we do that why do you have such a disrespect for the people of Las Vegas the people of Nevada not to give them the answers they need and why on god's green earth are you dipping into the state's rainy day fund four hundred and one million dollars to take care of the corona virus deficit and you're not even willing not even willing to try to move businesses opening faster people store getting unemployment even though gig workers and independent contractors as of tomorrow could now start filing board this is really backwards when you agree of course you do it's really backwards and then to top it off and then to top it off we've got more statements from well top democratic donor Stephen Quebec who said that he's prepared to spend whatever it takes to recall mayor good men from Las Vegas he said and I quote I know what it will cost to be successful and help the funds set aside I'm bringing my A. game to the swipe she's violated the world class respect of the state of Nevada and more importantly of the city of Las Vegas this guy is a lunatic himself those big Whopper choppers that he has in his mouth proved that to me because if you're worth that much money get some better dentures than the ones that you're wearing Sir that I can tell you in that mood tonight mayor Goodman did nothing wrong but again here's the truth they are trying to impose a leftist socialist behaviors upon the state upon the country it is not about health it is about political weaponry that's what it's about that's the truth and trust me there are silent quiet whispers regarding a state income tax I mean I believe that but believe me that's that's common that's going to be discussed what say you seven zero two two five seven five three nine six let's start right back well let's go right to the calls I didn't lose my mind but it's okay it's Friday let's jump over to Eddie Europe first tonight welcome to the program yes well not only does Arizona have since you know gambling at the native American places they also have a scratch off lottery Powerball mega millions plus they have horse racing year round I don't know if that's on hold now but they have both put their county fairs and they have a tourist attraction at Phoenix and Tucson and here and there as well so they're beating us on gambling so they think they're gonna have this ice seventy come up here and bring all these comp from three next up here are they are they they're gonna lose out of people is gonna stay there safe the chaos and and and gamble local the other thing that's cool back guy he's always wanted to take some of the older hotels downtown at the time shares so that's why he's he's gunning for that the good men stood out because that would cut back on the womb taxes and that sort of thing so quiconque clueless Kubacki said a really seating guy and it you should go back to the woodwork would burn the rest of the stuff the census allowed Kenyans yeah yes No great quality and and you can tell and and and you know where his heart is it's not about the people I can tell you it's not about the people because his statements and his agenda no where do I see is about the people about the workers it's about making more of a name for himself I don't know if he has political aspirations I don't know what it is but he just needs to shut his mouth it's just real simple just need to shut up and let those that understand the political spectrum make things happen I mean come on friends look you heard me say this from the bike from many times I've never been a complete fan in the past of mayor Carolyn Goodman you've heard me say that I have learned to give her a tremendous amount of respect during this whole last two months or so of of this covert nineteen pandemic I I have grown to appreciate and respect many of her attributes I have but when I hear and see political agendas like Stephen Quebec it's ridiculous it's ridiculous and we're smarter than that it's just as simple as that we're smarter than that good luck recalling her she ain't going anywhere just like I said good luck recalling sizzle like he's not going anywhere sadly it's just true sadly it's true it was that easy to recall someone we'd always be recalling someone so the fact of the matter is sometimes sometimes consequences are inevitable when we don't get involved politically sometimes we decide that our vote doesn't count and we stay home we don't get involved volunteering we don't get involved with monetary contributions to our candidates that are conservative and patriots and then you know you get these types of people like system lack in in company that get in the office and then you cry about it well you know this is a lesson I think for everybody I mean that's what I that's what I believe that's right at all right let's get right back towards the calls let's go to Larry Larry you're up next welcome to the program hi Steve second caller called about a week ago but anyways yeah I just want to make a quick point number one my wife just got called awhile ago in full she is going back to work this weekend when he's gonna go take your toes he's worked at a casino here in town since ninety four family United I've been working here since then also but what I wanted that also that he's this is wholly political finance I mean come on Mr Putin pa intolerant even trump president trump's press conference that is a virus press conference at the same time you know like scheduled it I couldn't believe that that was the first one and and ever since then I've been kind of putting this together also with everybody phone you know it's just political it's nothing more it's simply political at this point we we will get through it because it's not up to Mr Sisolak it is up to the gaming board so I believe Vegas will be back to normal as far as ninety percent of people do not even know anybody with the virus okay yeah that's so true fact there's some crazy statistics Leri crazy.

So many obstacles has provided good challenges for them to overcome. Don Rene has gained an intimate understanding of how nutritional support and AIDS affects us and our health and our cognitive wellbeing. The traveling caregiver part came from the fact that I would. I could travel on the phone. I could travel on the email I could travel to your home. I can travel wherever you needed me to and I could at least try to help you get somewhere where you can feel that you're getting some sense of control back in your environment because it can feel so out of control when you're fighting disease disorder. You know a like. How do we bring bounce back? How do I find balance for you? Where are what are the things that are triggering you to to lose the controls that you're not having any more and you know with LS LS is a? It's a terrible thing. It's I mean you lose everything from the neck down you have. Your brain laughed but You know virtually. She stayed for less patients. She's immobile from the neck down. She can't speak to me other than through communication device in. That's if she's feeling like it so usually. We use a lot of mental telepathy and I looked ends by language. Reads and intuition and Basically just basing everything on her baseline where where's her happy place and then trying to keep her at that happy place. No so I know that's the same with ultra so I'm always trying to try to keep my mom and her happy place goodness. It's I visited her yesterday. And the plan was I'm a Rotarians and I go after my rotary meetings. We didn't have a meeting yesterday so I thought okay I'm GonNa go earlier and I will go my plan about noon and they would be down with lunch and then I would take her to a restaurant. I would eat. Get Her something small to snack on. Whatever just so we had that nice socialization. Because she's she still verbal but nothing she says makes sense. It sounds like it makes sense and people will look at me and like Oh you know. What is she talking about like? Give me the historical context kind of question and it's like there is no historical context because this makes no sense and so. I try to give her this nice visit so yesterday we were. I get disrupted like just as leaving. The door landscaper comes and he's got questions. I'm like dude. I'm hungry. I need to go get my mom so I can get makes no sense. It worked and I got there like Korda one and she's still having lunch. I'm like they never have to like eleven as I usually can't get there early enough to actually eat with them break so I was like she didn't see me so I'm like okay and I went out in the courtyard. Did a couple of things on my phone whip back. In most of the residents were done. She was still leading. She's also at the stage of Alzheimer's where she has difficulty with eating utensils but she has difficulty eating with her hands. So that's that's a challenge. And so most of the residents were done. The tables in the floors discuss you just covered in food. And I'm like there's no way I'm eating with these people in this. I'm not a Germaphobe Neat freak but not that bad and it was just it was just too much like she's still eating okay and like at this point. I'm starving because it's now like one o'clock and I usually Thirty noon so it's getting rather late and I'm like okay. Well this is just completely screwed up all plans for that I. I went to lunch and the plan was go. Get MOM HAVE LUNCH. Visit with her for about an hour per back off. And then I was going to reward myself with shopping at Michael's and maybe Joann fabrics because we've just moved and we have a lot of neutral so I needed to find the POPs of color. That was the plan but I had to pass Michaels to get back to her. Okay like that's just dumb. I'm like you know what it's not. GonNa make much difference at this point so I did my Michael Stuff. Which was yesterday was such a Monday. I gather inventory people blocking every aisle Mike Really. I'm just going home going home. I'm giving up underway now by persevered. I went and I had you know I got mom. And you know the I went to Pinera and they always like. Oh you WANNA pastry for ninety nine cents which always say no. Do not need the sugar. I got that for her. You know so. We sat there on the bench in the sunshine. I'm in northern California so the sun is very warm. Breeze was quite chilly. So the combination very pleasant. He sat out of the bench Hannah just sat there eating the cookie. Hopefully she got more cookie than I did. It was the plan and she just wasn't like in the mood to talk. Mike Okay. I've learned the hard way. Not Not push so dumb with them with a cookie and she said something and I said agreed with her. She said I don't know what you're talking about. I'm like just agreed with how I said such a nice to have but we go for a walk. And this is where. My Mom's Alzheimer's is really interesting because she always wants to. Make sure that we're doing what you want. And whatever you need it it's always. Yui New Right looks like well. I don't WanNa be here and I don't want to sit here with you. Not Talk I want to do any of this. But it's necessary so she said whenever you want to find or walking his. She's had a lot of pain when walking. Yeah and she didn't seem to have a lot of pain yesterday so I thought okay. We walked all the way around the residents and we got back and it was about thirty. Four o'clock she starts getting really crabby. So Mike Hey it's time for me to go back to work and I took her back in. And that was that was the end of the day except the as I was leaving. There was a gentleman from the assisted living part of the community sitting on the bench for the cute little dogs target him. I'm like okay well. This was not the way I planned my day. But it worked out okay. Mom and I had a decent visit. We didn't have any any words so that was cool. Yeah the I think we should talk about the nutritional support. 'cause I wonder sometimes. Yeah I know personally if I did not get a good night's sleep I wake up and my brain is going. Let's have some doughnut stuff that I don't it's like don't don't don't don't eat donuts. And it's not gonNA help look brain. You need a nap. Not crabby food is fine. It's fascinating it's like thankfully I know why it's doing it. It's looking for quick fuel but don't Sugar even gives me quick fuel. And so you said you put your this. Gal Aliens on plant based Diet Yes. It's very let's talk. It's very similar to the To the mind diet so I don't know if you're familiar with the mind diet I am but you can. You can give a highlight just in case this is somebody's first episode so basically for me. It's just like saying Mediterranean without all the grains. That's what it is similar is. I don't In that's actually because I had diabetes type. Two through my through my journey with an her sister has now been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and I have a friend a really good friend who's MOM's been diagnosed with dementia and so I've had to go through the journey with them too and Try to help. Help them with some strategies and What I found was is that it was all the same and that diabetes type two can turn into diabetes type three which is actually Alzheimer's dementia. So who knew that my sugar problem could eventually turn into something really bad for me someday. So sugar you know was definitely something. I had to make sure to get off the menu as fast as possible and then jumped to the mind diet so the mind diet is the Mediterranean Mediterranean Diet which is plant based it would be green leafy vegetables it would be Sprouted allies say sprouted seeds. Because I don't think you should eat seeds unless they've been sprouted and I don't think you should eat nets unless they've been soaked but that's just because those those specific seeds and nuts they have a big acid on the outside was protects their shell and when they get activated those that acid comes off while if we just eat it were depending on our stomach. Digestive acids to get rid of that which actually throws a neuro toxin in the mix so your brains like what? Am I supposed to do that so sometimes people might say? I can't eat mets. It always makes my tummy get all bound up or I can't eat seeds same thing so they feel like that's happening. Probably a good chance. They need to break their seeds and nuts down before the item so I generally sprout and So all of them to the point. Where blend them and make net cheese before? I'll eat them right out of a bag just because it seems to again. It's what works for you. Everybody has to find what works for them so with the Mediterranean or the mind diet. I removed rice. No rice rice turns empty sugar so little story drew. I used to have hypoglycemia. And then it turned into diabetes type two because I had a gluten allergy so decided to go get all gluten products at the store Boxes they all say gluten free gluten free gluten free gluten free gluten free. The trouble is is that it's processed food says not really food and it other trouble is is that it's mostly made of rice. Rice converts to sugar whole. That's true I never thought of that within Lena but never looked like if in one year I had diabetes. Tikoo and I gained forty

closing of of businesses businesses and and schools schools Gottlieb Gottlieb did did offer offer reassurance reassurance saying saying quote quote we'll we'll get get through through this this another another former former democratic democratic presidential presidential candidate candidate is is endorsing endorsing Joe Joe Biden Biden in a video on Twitter California senator Kamilla Harris threw her support behind the former vice president saying quote I believe in joke we need a leader who really does care about the people and who can therefore unify the people and I believe Joe can do that and with us right now was ABC news political analyst Steve Roberts Steve what a difference a week makes it did you anticipate Joe Biden picking up this mode the momentum this quickly no I have not I don't think anybody did I I think what we're what we're seeing though is a fascinating phenomena based on one word and that word is fear it's fear of Donald Trump and fear of Bernie Sanders Joe Biden has not been reborn as some useful charismatics move talking energetic candidates Joe Biden today is still the same Joe Biden that people have a lot of doubts about two weeks ago two months ago two years ago the difference is that Democrats have so desperate so frantic to find somebody who can beat Donald Trump that they decided that day either as a group and individually as voters and as candidates they'll camel Harris being an example of of having to rally around somebody and then choosing between Biden and Sanders the fear of Bernie Sanders is pulling the party too far to the left so there's a lot of energy around the Biden candidacy right now but in my view it's largely negative energy it's driven by fear it's driven by desperation there are not a lot of Democrats even this morning jumping up and down in Saint Joe Biden's gonna be a great candidate a great president but this negative energy is very powerful and that's what's driving this trend do you think it's now his to lose or is it too early to say that definitely has to lose end up and I think it's gonna be very difficult for Bernie Sanders to rebound here the one variable of course the one no wild card is by himself as I say he has not been report he's still the guy who can show astounding lapses of judgment he's still the guy who could make gaffes he's still the guy who can show his age very clearly he's still the guy who can appear fumbling and uncertain and in debates with Bernie Sanders and interviews it's still entirely possible for him to make damaging mistakes I think a lot of Democrats even if they rally around by they're holding their breath and hoping that Biden will get its act together and I've seen some signs a few signs of Byton improving on the stop I think he's shown a little bit more energy I think the campaign line about I'm the candidate of those who have been left behind it counted out is a defective and powerful line really echoes of a bill to written of nineteen ninety two the comeback kid although Biden's hardly a kid he's more the comeback teaser than the comeback kid and also this line of of of appealing to the concepts of dignity and civility and normalcy I think they provide a fairly stark contrast to the president who's in the oval office now but Biden is still Biden it was all of his flaws but at this point he's the Democrats best hope and it's gonna be very difficult for Sanders to capture Steve thanks for your thoughts again this morning ABC news political analyst Steve Roberts it's also worth noting that this morning one of the former Panera Bread/Au Bon Pain: Ron Shaich (2018)
"Ron Shake isn't a household name like you say Howard Schultz but you could argue that. What Howard Schultz did for coughing Ron shake did for cheddar broccoli soup or the SEO cheese he's Bagel because like Howard? Ron Wasn't just focused on product. He was interested in creating a space of place where people could hang out for a long time. Maybe even have a PTA meeting or social gathering and really linger over that Bagel or cup soup. This is the famous third-place concept concept that both Howard Schultz and Ron shake wanted to tap into in. That's how Panera became one of the fastest growing restaurant chains in the world. In fact if you've invested the seven thousand dollars in Pinera stock in nineteen ninety nine. You'd be sitting on more than half a million dollars by two two thousand seventeen now. The thing is if you met Ron shake say in high school. This is not the path you've predicted for him. Ron Wasn't even interested in business. Is Passion was politics. His parents were raging liberals and Ron grew up going to rallies and volunteering on campaigns. All over New Jersey eventually went to Clark University where naturally he majored in politics and he was quickly elected to student government. And that could have been Ron's life life except for one day when something happened to Ron and a group of friends something kind of small but something that when you look back on it probably probably changed his entire life. Yeah so we. We were in a local convenience store called store. Twenty four cross the street from the main entrance to the Clark campus and they accused US shoplifting and tossed us out cecily guys just being rowdy earnings or wild. No we were shopping but I came back to campus episode and I was in my dorm with a couple of friends and I said you know. Why are we shopping there? How they can they treat us like this? What supports that store? We said what do we need what we can we can do this ourselves. We can have our own convenience store and I said you know this isn't going to be that hard. Let's go do it. And we approach the university. They weren't so keen on this but I moved the question to student body They voted in support of it and I basically agreed to spend that summer between my sophomore and junior here opening this convenience store guy. Wow So. What'd you guys Sal We sold Everything from drinks to Munchies two cookies and candy and you know our assistant manager would come to my apartment at five in the morning and we actually would go to this deep discount supermarket and buy I don't know ten or fifteen baskets full of merchandise that we'd stocked the store with and We hired twenty or thirty different students to work there. I will be very franken. Saint Joe's more interested in that store than when I was in my own academically. And and your guy who's all still focused on public policy in government but I guess this it was Kinda cool you liked. He kind of liked doing business running a business. Yeah and and you know. I didn't see myself as that kind of guy and it took me a wile to make sense of that but in so many ways running a business is no different than campaign in fact a campaign is a the business that that essentially has one day in which it ends a business campaign that goes on and never ends so at this point in his life. Ron Wasn't quite sure what he wanted to do. Business or politics but people around him saw how how much he loved running that convenience store and a lot of people said. Hey why don't you get an MBA. So Ron did he enrol at Harvard. Business School in Nineteen seventy six. And when he finished unlike a lot of his classmates who went into banking or finance ron decided to go into retail and he took a job in the mid west and a place called held the original cookie company. Twenty stores in shopping malls We grew it to about one hundred and twenty five. I took the job as the third year of the NBA. What I mean by that is I took a job as a district manager? Basically Iran ten or fifteen of these cookie stores half the United States and I spent went My time running around the country and I ended up opening thousands of these cookie stores around the country so as certain point you're learning about the cookie business I guess and then at a certain point you get this idea like hey I can do this myself. I can have my own cookie store yes and and I can literally remember traveling Cross Indiana. I'm away to Fort Wayne Dope a new cookie store and it hit me and I said why are we opening this in a Mav. There's a huge opportunity open these in in an urban setting. Why don't we open one and I can remember going to my boss? I remember him taking me to meet. Beat the CEO of the company. Said I wanNA open an urban cookie. Store looks him and he says we don't do that here. We Open Mall based retail units. I thought to myself well. If you're not GONNA do it. I'd like to go do it. Why shouldn't we and I'm the Kinda guy by Sam going to do it? I want to go do it and it led led me to actually resigning my job and I moved back to Boston and I started looking for real estate and the reality was. Nobody would Li space for cookies. Find any sir for cookie store because they thought it wouldn't make enough money to pay the rent. 'cause I had no credibility. Yeah I had no real money I had you know no balance sheet to sign a lease and so I went to my dad and I said I I want my inheritance. Whatever it's going to be I want the opportunity to use it and I had about twenty five thousand dollars Ned Essentially let me. He gave me seventy five thousand dollars and that one hundred thousand dollars became the GRUB stake the equity. That allowed us to build that. I four hundred square-foot cookie store. Wow in downtown Boston. What did you name the store? We named it the cookie jar and I can remember. We took the toll house recipe. Right it off the bag. I bought a small mixer and I would pass out cookies in front of the stories that we were building. It and I'd start to adjust the recipe based on what I learned talking to customers and and you were the baker. You were making cookies yourself. Yeah we opened. There were three employees. I made it was me and to folks I will never forget at that day. It just seemed like people never stopped walking a coming in and purchase fifty thousand people day going by and I'll never forget it. I got to the end of the day walking past or foot traffic. Yeah but I got to the end of that at first afternoon. We opened one o'clock guide and by six we closed and my back was hurting. Oh and legs were hurting. And I can't in the money and I I realize we only brought in four hundred dollars. I mean you forget when we talk about business what it is the self the four hundred batches of cookies buck each and the amount of energy and work that goes into

UK teen loses vision and hearing due to junk food diet
"Because if you have a team or a toddler in your life chances are good they probably eat a diet just like this kid the kid in the U. K. U. seventeen years old and apparently he's lost his eyesight because of all the junk food that he's been eating since elementary school no defined junk food chili Ammar so his diet consists of fries chips white bread processed ham and sausage and he's been eating that since he was in elementary school I guess when he was fourteen he goes to the doctor he complains of being tired and at that time he was diagnosed with anemia and beat vitamin deficiency right well then he started to lose his hearing. then he has trouble seeing now he had can't see at all his vision loss is permanent because of something they say is optic neuropathy which is rare but can happen as a direct result of a bad diet nutrition unbelievable so now well here's the thing this teens diet of fries chips in white bread sounds identical to my fifteen year old daughter Kaila is where he's different this team is different because at least he ate ham and sausage so you've talked on the show about your concerns about your fifteen year old eating less you say like a toddler your typical let's go through each meal breakfast what is your daughter typically have kix cereal with milk and lunch of macaroni and cheese probably from Pinera. and dinner cheese pizza. so should that's kind of she she has a very limited it may be a cheese quesadilla. or a grilled cheese sandwich see I'm I'm I'm laughing because it sounds like something my five year old would do and I would hope in the next ten years eventually other health here you know all I rider guns for pasta with butter but just pasta in but what do you think it would take your fifteen or do you think if you share this story and granted it's a rare thing that happened but still this is happened he said look this this teenager in the U. K. went blind and deaf because of a horrible diet you need to change I think something is drastic is going to have to happen to your I think she's going to need a wake up call that that the people that aren't her mom or me or anybody in our family it's gonna have to be a doctor or a surgeon or someone that says listen you have very serious health problems and if you don't start doing X. Y. and Z. this is going to cause even longer term issues it's scary because if this happens to a teenager in theory could happen to any of anyone I'm all this kid was fourteen when he started complaining about his issues and now we seventeen and he's blind are you kidding me Kyle is fifteen and this is her diet somebody send that link to my daughter you'll find it by the way the stories in the Toby in Chile page a washer from dot com to feel like you need to share this with somebody in your life who has a diet very similar to this kid who knew nutritional optic they're off the beaten Rafi that right now drop the fee is

Are we going to see multiple millions of people in it? It's gonna be a great one. Just within the first several weeks at the time of her earnings call. We had three. Million members enrolling. The incredible that was a matter of weeks. It continues to grow. We'll update you know, next month whether earnings call we think it's going to be a great one response. So far has been phenomenal. What's the best part that we've heard about or that, we've seen so far, is that it's not just our most loyal customers, or joining, of course, there joining, but we're we're finding lapsed and casual customers that are joining as well. And they like the program. It's very easy to rewards are very fair and so, so far, it's off to great start. And we have high expectations, I think rewards programs work. I also think that price works and you manage to hold the line on price. But you're still a little bit north that was at Wendy's this weekend. I don't. Today and someone ADL Mike walk. No, thank you. Are you able to gauge how the how much the consumer's willing to spend? I know that the numbers that you have shown me. It's not just traffic. It store how much they're spending when they're in is there a level where you're worried. You know, we're well below that level when we've done we're right in the middle of doing a study right now. And the study so far is showing us that we still have terrific value scores. People appreciate where food comes from that we're doing real cooking. And when they compare us to other fast casual competitors that are coming on the scene were much, much, much cheaper than them, now our goal is to never push that too far. Our goal is to always be affordable. And we think if people understand where food comes from that were were invalid in real cooking and serve delicious meals, and it's affordable our customers, hopefully we'll keep coming back. Oh, I think they will one of the things I just want to point out wrap things up is the Jack always did us. I say came on during the good times and during the bad.
Grade schools ban Uber Eats, GrubHub deliveries during school day
"Of packing lunches, many high school students now pack their cell phones ordering food delivered to their school with apps liked grub hub door dash and Uber eats the deliveries have become so frequent and disruptive that many schools have banned them. Pat Watson is the principal at west Bloomfield high school in west Bloomfield Township Michigan he said, quote, it was getting to the point where you'd have eight ten fifteen deliveries a day. It's a building policy. You can't have food delivered during the school day unquote, other schools have done the same thing. School officials have addressed the issue in states from California to Florida. Diane Blaine is spokeswoman for Chippewa valley schools in Macomb County Michigan which is north of Detroit. She said, quote, we view it as a safety concern. Having strangers and people that we don't know coming to our buildings with delivery bags. We just don't allow it. I'm quote, Blaine said, the district's Dakota high school band the practice about three years ago, and it's other high school Chippewa valley followed suit some schools have policies explicitly prohibiting it others frown on it. But don't formally van. It all them say the practice has exploded with cell phone use. And the proliferation of delivery services, high school students are the only ones who order food deliveries to school. That's according to Jeff huger assistant manager of the jets pizza about a mile north of west Bloomfield high. He said that some students in elementary school. We'll have pizza delivered for lunch. I mean, it sure beats a carton of milk in some cafeteria pizza. Huger said, quote, the parents will call and say my kids lunches at noon, can you deliver a pizza to the office and maybe throw in a bottle of water, unquote. Looser good. They're staying hydrated. Parents typically pay what the credit card or through the jets app on their phone. The delivery driver will bring plates. Napkins if requested. Jets charges three dollars and fifty cents for delivery compared with four dollars for grub hub. He said that his pizza places across the street from a middle school and a prep school. In addition to two nearby elementary schools. He said all of them are good for business. He also mentioned that teachers are known to order pie for lunches. Well, that's what I was going to say is going to say the ban on this seems like it would hurt teachers more than students whose poor teachers. They just want to have pizza delivered to their teachers lounge. But now now students of even ruined that for them. Poor things they work really hard to wouldn't it be nice for them to just be able to do not have to run out and drive somewhere. Go through the drive thru not all the schools in the same area addressed the delivery issue in the same manner. The Plymouth canton school district just northeast of an Arbor Michigan, which operates three high schools in one location does not have a formal policy about food deliveries. But the building procedures don't allow it said spokesman, Nick, Brandon he said that the main reason for the ban of school safety, but there are other reasons as well Brennan said quote, the second that food enters the school office. It becomes the school offices responsibility, unquote. He added that it created concerns of food safety foodborne illnesses and allergic reactions. He said, quote, it's also overclouded issue for office personnel. If they're having to manage multiple food orders at a given lunchtime. With all the other things they have to be responsible for that's a concern as well on quilt. Brandon said that the district works hard to provide healthy good tasting food and. Cafeterias and students are always free to Brown bag it the principal at west Bloomfield said deliveries aren't always on time. Tardy deliveries made for tardy students. Watson said, quote, it's supposed to be here at twelve and my lunches done at twelve thirty now shows up at twelve thirty five so no I haven't gotten to class. But now, I've got my Panara, and I go to class to eat in their unquote Watson's at teachers object to kids eating class. But the students would complain it wasn't their fault that the delivery was late Watson also has heard plenty of excuses for why an order was placed. What's instead quilt kids say, oh, my mom forgot to put money on my lunch account. He said that one student claimed a cousin ordered it for him not knowing it wasn't allowed Watson said that claims seemed doubtful when the delivery driver knew the student's name. The school does allow deliveries to school after class end so students staying after school for a sport or other extracurricular activity can order all they want. He said what's said, quote, when I was in high school, we knew to pack two lunches one for lunch and one for after school, I guess the new normal as you whip out your cell phone and order some food unquote cell phones have become so pervasive in high schools that Watson has used them to his own advantage. When he wanted to remind kids of the no food orders during school hours policy. He sent it out in a tweet just goes to show that if your parents really love you they'd take you to Pinera the night before. Give you

I don't I want to remain anonymous. That's fine. I'm one to call me and on the caller ID number came in. We don't have any. Learn how to run your your dial your radio station better hanged. Dial. And when he woke up everything was nobody knew him told it. Like almost the Star Trek delivery beat me up snotty Scotty, and he. Got lost in translation of worry. Got he putting me somewhere instead of in say, New York City landed in Perth, Australia. Has this happened to you? What does this have to with your situation? That's why I would like someone called me and help explain your radio your amp. Situation and. Situation. Okay. This is I'm I'm confused as to what you are confused about the program.

"Yeah, right. Yeah. No, I, I could see. I like you were saying that the eighteen minutes that's that's not quick and especially if it's a busy if it's busy, that's that's that. That would be insane. So yeah, boy, I'm kind of nervous for what we're what the review will be for for Pinera because I right know. It's funny because coming into this all these complaints I get, but it was kinda harmless to me. I didn't. I didn't. I didn't hate it, and I liked the Greek salad enough that I was, I guess that's fine. But the now when you break it down. Oh yeah. There's a lot of stuff that's not good about race place. I mean, I don't wanna color your opinion of it. It's like it's, it's not hateful. It's the least offensive combination may computer to be the leash food place, possibly imagine that could ever be conceived of the Doboy of restaurant. Wait this. This is an offensive. It's very offensive, whatever this this show is very hateful, learn something for. Well, let's let's get to our final thoughts Bill. So here's how this will work. We'll each go around. We'll sort of give our closing argument on Panera bread and then describe it a rating on the order of one defy forks. Go to. You can go down zero five, four, zero to five forks. And so close with that score. Tines are encouraged and welcome your guests. We'll begin with you. Okay. I would say that the food I cannot do it as a unit. I would say the food itself is three to three and a half forks. Okay. However, the atmosphere is one and a half to two four there. And if you're taking the food to go, there you go. If you're eating it there, you have to calculate the mental toll that the places taking on you and therefore, you know, maybe two point, seven, five forks max as as a unit. Wow, go ahead. Yeah, I'm gonna. I'm gonna go a little bit higher. It's so it's invented to me, and then I find things that I like. It's another thing though that has a sprawling menu. And so I'm sure that there's a lot of bad things and allow it was huge and there's ton of choice is they said it's probably like you could take your your grandparents and your kids, and everybody would find something right? Which is a rare type of thing. Yeah, yeah. I agree with you in something that was in my my head. And then until you said I was like, oh yeah, I've never. I've never really thought this out too much, but it is just kind of depressing place. And it's funny we talked about Burger King to maybe they're maybe they're both in need of of an update. Because it is just just light it up a little bit like who who knows when I was younger when I go to Obama pon it was so much more exciting to me. I mean, a lot of it was just kind of like almost like. Counter in a mall or whatever, but the food was kind of more exciting to me in felt like like those places were designed was cool. I always in the nineties and the eighties, they look, they had kind of a modern modern art kind of looked to them, which I do. Yeah. And the food just was interesting in this food is isn't really interesting. It's kind of like here it is. It is. It is what it is engineered to be generic. Yeah. That being said, I like the Greeks out. I really liked the soup. The MAC and cheese was good. Then the other half of the meal wasn't great. I think I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go three three point. Two, five, four, three point, two, five still respectable not, but you're right. Who'd rating slightly higher than yours? Three and a half. A food rating? Yeah, yeah. And that's, and that's, I agree with you. I think I think three and a half for the food writing is is right. I bring it down, but you don't that quite as many points I would just get out. I would just eat it my car at home, I would. I would. I wouldn't eat it there. Yeah. I mean, I.

"In fact, I made up a fake New Yorker cartoon where it was like the husband and the wife Pinera, and he says to the wife, the husband says, it's time to talk about putting your father and living. So I brought you to Pinera and that's what it is that is that place. It has. The decor is nineteen Ninety-two waiting room. It really is. It's bad and I don't know how it's intolerable to me, but also the the food is not so great that it makes up for that. And you know what? I, I think the the, the God, the interior decor-. Thank you. Looks like is a worse olive garden. Yes, it's dark like olive garden, like why? Why? Our bright in there, this one on brand is cave like two, but then just is like it's a step down from what all of garden. It's sure olive garden is to style. Someone's has to style, has pizzazz fake plants in the palm trees and just give us that that airport will look neutral. It was focused grouped that people anybody from little kids hate it. People will be perfectly soothed by it. It's like a nursing home. In fact, one of my friend's wife, some that perfectly and said, Panara is like a second. Rate hospital cafeteria, and I think that's the most perfect thing I've ever heard about Kenya. When I when I think back on, like like, you know, hearing the news that my dad was sick, like the environment is a Panara. It's like the Pinera Panara diner even though it didn't happen there. I'm saying like you were gonna giant cookie. When I put this, I put this observation on Instagram stories after my outrage at this thing, got a few comments from people who had who agreed with me including like my mother-in-law, just got divorced that Pinera local group used to meet at every week. But we had to change venues because we had two arrests for breakup in many bad dates. And another person said. A man came running out and set my wife gotten to fight and she just drove away and left me here. That's the kind of thing that you get it Pinera. Right. And in fact, I went there today to eat for this podcast and sitting next to two different groups of middle aged women arrived. One was talking about court ordered a child therapy and the other was talking. It was a woman. I just heard like I'm just doing the best I can do a lot of depressing materialised on in peril so that if the food were amazing, maybe the depressing atmosphere worth it, but it is not it is. We can go into a deep dive on the food in a moment, but I just wanted to get my ran out of the way. That I think I was the depressing person for the people. When they saw me walk in there. I know I it, it's something that stands out. I mean, it is something that you think about when you go, it's it's, you can't help, but think about how it's I swear to God. I was the same thing with that one on brand boulevard. We went to three different locations, and I've been to three or four different locations in Portland as well, and they're all identical in terms of the look and also in terms of the demographic of people there and it anyway. So I think we've covered that, but that's what I wanted to say is the preamble to the right of food. Well, let's get into the food. So on my visit, I got the u pick to this. Is that that Pinera has you combine any to half portions of salad sandwiches soups, MAC and cheese, which they offer? Now we're flat breads and everything comes with your choice of French baguette apple or chips me. I feel like apple is the right move there. I mean, it depends on how hungry you are, but I feel like the Panara apples I've had are generally. Pretty solid. That was the case today the or not today. But this most recent visit, I got the black bean soup and the bacon Turkey Bravo sandwich..
