"Tell us about yourself chez. Where do you work. What's your role. Semi formal title is education coordinator. And i worked for pinellas county utilities out of the south cross by advanced water reclamation facility in st petersburg florida's. Let's a really really really long name. And i do a little bit of everything to be honest when i started here mostly k. Through twelve so kindergarten twelfth grade education. But i also work a lot. What the local technical schools colleges universities basically anyone that has a title water. Which is everybody. That's absolutely right so for our listeners. Could you give us a little more sense of the municipality like how many treatment plans the capacity of the one that you sit out those types of things and whereas pinellas county in florida. So we'll start with where county is. We are just outside of tampa. So we're like little peninsula on the peninsula's i call it so west. Coast of florida kind of west central. If you're looking at a map of florida right on the very coast golfing mexico and pinellas county. Utilities owns and operates. Three facilities. One is drinking water facility. That's up on our north county. And then also in the north county we have our done facility which is wastewater and water reclamation and then down in the south county we have facility. That is it. It is the south cross by events. Water reclamation facility so between done and south across south crossed is a thirty three. Mgd plant so it is also the largest in the entire county not just owned and operated by the county but it is the largest is so that's one thing that makes us really cool. We have a lot of really unique features here facility for instance we have a On so we actually make fertilizer which is something that when we do towards people think is really interesting because they actually get to see kind of what happened to their number two which most people don't think about right but we also have things like our tetra denied filters so that's what makes us advance so we get to point out those kinds of things we also have primary tanks. We have two parallel trains. Emily i know i'm getting into the technical stuff but those are really cool things to point out even to the public and to the engineering community.

"Gina, welcome to . the It show is great to have you speaking to us today. Maybe just to kick things off can you maybe just tell us a bit about Gina McCartney - who you are and some background. . to thank Yes, I'm yourself sure, you so Gi for na McCartney having me here today. Super excited to see both. So my background if i go back to perhaps my brief - youth and into professional career. I really my whole life was distant creative: sculpting, painting, designing and off the back of that passion went to uni studied creative advertising and was destined. ..my path was to become a art director . My very early career was in advertising agencies and spent ten years ing servic some like pretty big clients ilo, . kohl's meyer group. Cbi off foundation and then some order client bmw and many were because of mine and it was during that time that i realized how much i loved as and surprised no surprise. I joined renault. Stralia and joining renault at the time was at a really pivotal point for the business. And that was all about preaching and finding every possible opportunity we could in the market and myra was to introduce the sierra digital program. Really lift the capability of the dealer network from a lead management perspective. Sur getting out outta rot on building confidence back in the network that we were providing leads to them in generating value from office and then from neymar roll moved into a brand and events role and so the full marketing swayed had an awesome time with the business and great team. And then my time was up. When i was tapped on the shoulder for all at anchor pinellas area group been realized real estate dot com to you joined the business not really knowing much about the role. I was joining. He'd go to market manager role and of bain there now close to seven years and moved my way through various segments. So we're two now. Residential business at develop a business emotional property meteorologisy and clients and also to stint in malaysia. And i leave the win. We acquired a southeast asia and helped with the integration of that business side at an awesome korea here. Rei and now run. I tame called the customer. Excellence team and so my team move. Twenty incredibly talented people help support our two hundred thirty sales teams across australia. And that includes the learning development perching old training ogata market siles support collateral and operations analytic. Kpi's commissions incentive sprints and really big a big team mission and vision is to pave the new way of selling and selling clock when you work for rei. Let's bit about my story. Love love gardening love dancing and eighteen. And that's how i spend most of my time let's it's an impressive story. How you you've migrated from during the karate stuff through to or i will now into real estate now. We can't get a bit of understanding as to real estate dot com o. Rei group and what's the back story of real estate. Dot com abc business was born in the garage. Dome koster and for those familiar with john. It's in the eastern suburbs of melbourne and in nineteen ninety five and they came up with a crazy idea of water. We put the photos of property onto online so people can see them on the internet and so literally scanning photo by photo by photo built this web sought. That looks very different today than what did obviously up. Twenty plus years ago and over the years to really brilliant simple idea to gos- and today with the leading australian property portal and we have hundred million plus is it as a month coming to thought trillions of photos from a perspective and yeah we service most property clients around australia and that includes real estate agents property manages developers homebuilders land developers media clients of less amount of probably. But almost all and anyone that wants to reach property. Sega's we do business. You know you've got a really interesting background. Having spent tom and credit in automotive value in real estate can you. Maybe just discuss some of the similarities. Between automotive and real estate i remember when i joined. Ra and it was probably a month thing. I thought wow. I didn't realize there was so many similarities between the two industries. And if i stop from a business structure perspective the similarities of utah franchise groups independence at relationship between head office and you know the small small businesses that are running in local and regional areas. I think that that pressure that applies with a small business to find the raw talent retain talent when there is no professional requirement This note there's no huddle to get into other industry. And i think that is a challenge that are still share today and another real estate industry in particular institute really trying to introduce their professional courses create more opportunities for the right people to enter the industry. So they've got really quality staff sieving consumers invincibles. And i think our remember. That was a challenge in the automotive industry finding the right talent and apprenticeship styles perspective perhaps a bit of bid process. But that was probably one thing that i saw straightaway is a big lesson. In automotive that i think real estate can learn with the handshake. Between sales and after-sales and if you think of the real estate version of that is the sales and rental market now rent rolls the most profitable part of a real estate agency and if you think about the handover in the importance of one to the other the ongoing retention of the customer. I think that's a really important similarity between the two some. I think some best practice sharing could happen more. And then the probably the other big similarity i would say is the is much smarter and much savia and this is probably not exclusive to automotive in real estate but their expectations have increased tenfold. And no longer. Can you get back to a later inquiry within a couple of days. We're now seeing consumer expectations at a couple of minutes. And i think that's something that dealerships deal with daily and you know the the now now now economy that exists within cosima world.

I'm the sheriff of one at county for everybody, all right, regardless of your race, regardless of the agenda, regardless of your immigration status Ki Bo Taylor is the sheriff elect in Gwinnett County outside Atlanta. He's a Democrat and the first black man ever elected to the job. Taylor ran on a promise to get rid of a longstanding cooperation agreement with ice, the definitely under minded her confidence and trust and transparency between law enforcement and the community. Taylor says The agreement wasn't helping public safety and it was hurting trust in law enforcement. In a county where more than one in four residents was born outside the U. S. He's pledged to get rid of it on day one. That is correct. That is my plan. Yes, it is. The 2020 election is expected to usher in a major shift in immigration enforcement. On the federal level. We're talking about how the covid-19 kemik could be a deciding factor in this election for many voters in Pinellas County with reporter Phil gallwitz of Kaiser health news and st. Petersburg college professor Tara Newsome. I want to go back to the economy for a minute unemployment in Florida right now is 11.8% that's higher than the rate in Pinellas. It's 9.8% That's still a very large number but I'll start with you on this is local employment the local economy going to be a factor for undecided voters in Pinellas. Well, I'm not just a director of the center for civic learning at st. Pete College. I'm a faculty member there and one of the things that we're seeing with our students right now is that the lack of the ability and transparency to access unemployment compensation has been life changing and so Thursday, we're not only were they that able to access unemployment compensation this illusory idea that the economy is is moving forward is really not true and we have students that are hurting students that are not having access to affordable housing to sustainable jobs and are losing really that pipeline to posterity and so I think That in our little home of st. Petersburg, Florida. We certainly see that the unemployment issue is one of the most pivotal to voting in this election Phil thoughts on that every election. It's it's it's always the economy, you know, the economy stupid is obviously goes back to James Carville and electing President Clinton in ninety-two and I can't think of an election since then that the economy hasn't been a huge issue. And even though we have a kind of virus as a twin issue certainly the economy and having millions of people out of work now is gotta be something that's Weighing on people and whether or not you still have a job or whether you're working less or whether now you have more fears of losing the job now certainly be waiting on people and typically when people fear that I'm not going to be able to find a job or they fear they may lose a job certainly doesn't help any incumbent and trying to win re-election. Taro go back to you Pinellas County isn't the only part of the state or the country that seeing a growth and you talked a little bit about this at the beginning of our interview of Voters who have registered as independent sources took them here in Florida NPA is no party affiliation when you look demographically among age or other factors in Pinellas and across the state. How do how to empty a voter's breakdown? No, pretty Affiliates actually run the gamut of the generational scope and I think that's really in part because what we're seeing especially in areas like Tampa Bay that we have, you know a good access to what used to be the same times. Now the Tampa Bay Times believe it or not..

Breonna Taylor settlement is among largest payouts linked to a police shooting

"Gorman. If you wanna listen to it. Let's start with the settlements in Louisville with Briana Taylor's family a couple different things to run through of the next few minutes. Earlier this week, the Louisville metro government announced a $12 million settlement package with family of Briana Taylor. Of course, was 26 year old black woman who was shot in her own home by police officers serving a no knock warrant in March. The settlement also includes a Siri's of police reforms. Some of the reforms are changes to the approval process for an execution of search warrants. The hiring of social workers at the department a commitment to increase drug and alcohol testing of officers involved in any shooting, encouraging officers to perform at least two paid hours a week of community service in the communities they serve. And housing credits for officers toe live in certain low income parts of the city. And Felix, You took a look at the settlement. What stood out to you? Well, I think two things one. It was a record breaking settlement in and of itself. The $12 million payout. Briana Taylor's family's attorney, Benjamin Crump, represents George Floyd's family and multiple others in these situations, he said. It himself is the most money it's ever been paid for. A police involved shooting involving anyone, so that's significant itself. But Briana Taylor's mother, I said I think said it best. This is just the beginning the reform package they put together that was interesting that they the mirror who's got a vote of no confidence the other night. Apparently, you know, insisted that that was going to be part of the settlement agreement from the day one, which was good because they announced it together. It's not just about the money, but it's about the reform, which in one of these cases That's what is the driving factor, not necessarily the money. So you mentioned the key ones that are involved in this. It's interesting because we talked about the social worker aspect of Policing before because of a policy that sheriff Bob Altieri put in place here in Pinellas County, where he wanted social workers to go out to these mental health calls first on their own, try and de escalate them. And then if there's trouble than calling the police, which was You and I both thought that was a bad idea in this particular reform. Does that frothy area was that Holloway? That help earlier think that was. Yeah, I think it was cheap and also got a theory. But it's a same Pete initiative. So anyway, sorry about that. But in anyone what they will do in this case is social workers will go with The police officers on these calls or meet them out at the call, not endanger themselves. So it's kind of being that's what we thought should happen is that that's the more responsible, appropriate way to do it rather than just sending people out on their own. And then you know if the situation escalates. You got a problem on your hands. Yeah, exactly. Do you don't have time to wait for an officer to show up or say like, Hey, wait around the corner while I go talk to this person suicidal and walked in the bathroom of the gun. You know, and then ends up ends up shooting an unarmed social worker, and the other thing That's interesting is that we talked about the no knock warrants. They enacted a law in Louisville already doing away with down, But then they went one step further. Just like now, this is sheriff quality areas policy, which was the more hierarchy in terms of getting the warrant. So The way it used to work here in Fort is like you would have the detective's whether it's robbery homicide. Narcotics. Those are the ones that usually get the most warrants. They would review the case they would take their warrant to the state attorney's office. State attorney would review it and then they would be the ones to say Okay, you can go ahead and go to a judge. Well, what they done in Louisville and Penelas is that they built in another law of letter layer. Inside the department level, so supervisors will have to sign off on the warrants before they can Goth to get approval from prosecutors or the judges or accountability exactly within the department, So you don't have Because we've read the the warrants and the stories about what happened in Briana Taylor's case, and they were so thin in the connections they were trying to make Tio, the main suspect. They've lived on the other side of town, and the tenuous nature of it was the fact that she paid this guy's phone bill was an ex boyfriend of hers and also had his shoes delivered an Amazon package delivered and they immediately made the jump that that was somehow Drug trafficking activities, so that should be reviewed at a much higher level, and that's something I think I encourage. I think you'll see a lot more departments doing that. And like I said Florida, we have that additional level of the prosecutors by think it should go down one level more in order for the police involved to say, like hold on a second. Let's review this before. You go to a prosecutor with us because I got put into situations a lot of times where the detectives would get a thumbs down from a prosecutor on the case, and then they call another prosecutor in the prosecutor would say, Oh, no, This is perfectly fine. And so you have those sites of mixed messaging on stuff and that could get very dicey because not only if you go from one prosecutor, another And for example, I said, No, you don't have enough for a warrant, And then they go to another prosecutor that they're friends with. And they say, you know, they can approve the warrant that tire up to me, then you know, on Well at that point, So that's the thing the problem that they have with that so interesting reforms that they're going to do and the one I like the most. I think the most interesting is giving them the housing credits to move into. The neighborhoods that they are patrolling. So I want to see the follow up on that to see

Look Younger With Leeches Dr. Nidia Diaz

"It's the get foxy show once again, Jerry Fox here this time with Dr Nidia Diaz. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to talk to us today. It's quite an honor. Thank you very much Mr Fox you bet, well, you're an acupuncturist I'm an acupuncturist. We are Chinese medicine. Practitioners. This is this is one of the reasons why I wanted to have you on the show is because we've got some things in common. I. I study Aesthetic Facial Cosmetic Acupuncture you're also schooled in this as well. And what drew me to ask you to be on this show? Was I found out? That you are a rare practitioner in Kuroda therapy. Can you tell the listeners what that is and how that all plays into what you're doing? Well reto therapy not to shock everyone, but it's live leeches. Lives, Wrigley Very. Beautiful Gentle Leeches and they've been used since the dawn of time as a form of medicine and currently are FDA approved does medical device. So, what I've done is I've combined the two. Of this bio inject. Let's say on top of acupuncture points. To create really amazing results. How in the world discount about did you when you grew up when you were growing up, did you think you're going to become an acupuncturist who worked with leeches or how how did this all fall into place for you? Well I grew up in New York in Chinatown was one of my favorite places to go exploring and. I had already had already like just imagined. You know life as a physician ever since I was little massaging my dad's feed every night. and. The mystique of eastern medicine just you know. Interested me and my name Nidia being you know similar to the word India also but meet to just you know that sort of eastern culture a really enjoyed that aspect in. When I found my calling I was like, yeah, that's it. I'm totally into. Oriental. Medicine therapies and what have you? And did you end up going to a specific school in New York or word where did your Pathway Ju? I went to the second oldest acupuncture school which was in. Pinellas Park Florida. and Luckily we had three out of the three hundred PhD Professors in the world. that. Were Doctors of Oriental Medicine with that sort of PhD level of training. So I felt really lucky that I got to complete my doctor and Oriental Medicine Degree those four years at that school. And afterwards, I did still feel like I needed a little bit more. So I decided to to make a journey to Asia and travel to over twenty five foreign countries in search of quote unquote the cure. And brought back leeches. To me is absolutely amazing, you'd think that. Sounds is okay. I'm going to go out to these these other countries and really sit at the feet of semesters and learn amazing knowledge. And it comes down to Leeches. Yep. That's how. That's so brilliant. So. Why is it that leeches are so good for aesthetic facial acupuncture how to to? Mesh Well. They are FDA approved for Venus Congestion And the reality is that they suck up eighty percent lymph fluid. Not, blood. When they feed, it's only a little bit of blood. So, with aesthetics, you have a lot of signs of aging that have to deal with lymphatic stagnation like double. Chin. Sagging Giles. That bloated moon phase you know all of that so By applying these medicinal Leeches, you get to drain literally drain the excess fluid that surrounds like. The jaw line, the neck area. You can even see a difference in the puffiness underneath the is above the eyelids just because you have less emphatic stagnation. So I I think it's amazing.
