"The west is broiling. Excessive heat warnings are in effect again today from phoenix where today's forecast was one hundred. Twenty degrees to eastern montana where some farming towns braced for highs close to one hundred ten. Npr's kirk siegler reports. There is little relief in sight. For the drought stricken region. How hot is it. It's like opening an oven when you're baking pie. Captain scott. douglas is a paramedic with the phoenix. Fire department the city is open sixty six cooling refuges and hydration stations at parks libraries and pools. It's hot and people say it's a dry heat. And i'm like well you know what when it gets two hundred seventeen hundred and eighteen degrees. It doesn't matter if it's dry. Moist phoenix broke records last year. For hitting a hundred degrees or higher for more than one hundred and forty four days last year was also a record wildfire year and much of the west and every day. There's a headline screaming. This summer could be worse arizona. He's hoping that the monsoon rains arrive this summer. They were no-show last year. Meteorologists are blaming this blistering event on a heat. Dome stubborn high pressure ridge. That's blocking cooler systems. Nikolai rymer is with the national weather. Service in billings. Montana where the forecast. Hi today june fifteenth is one hundred six. Once Your Bad Ideas Are Out, Your Good Ideas Are Free To Flow

"Singer. Ed sheeran says that the reason he's able to write so many great songs is because he also writes so many bad songs so many horrible soames. That's part of his creativity process. His process is to make sure that he gets the bad ideas out of system. The bad songs of system so that the good ideas are then free to flow. He talks about it like a water pie. Where all of the good ideas. Bad ideas are in the same pipe. You've just got to let that pipe open and let it all flow out good ideas and bad ideas you let the bad ideas out first and then the good ideas will stop become lighter. There's also suggestion that you stop to do some patent matching some pattern recognition internally. Once you come up with a bad idea you put it out there. You realize it's a bad idea. You realize why was perhaps a bad idea and so then subconsciously. Even perhaps you. You're able to patent match those ideas that all those elements of an idea that make it a good idea so if you are struggling with creativity which i think a lot of do part of your problem probably is the. You're not letting the bad ideas out. You're not willing to have the bad ideas. You're not willing to have the bad songs to have. Those non created things. Come out of you but you have to. Part of the creativity process is to let the bad. Id's out then the good ideas hopefully with a bit of luck. We'll keep flying

When They've Cut Taxes for the Rich, Government Revenue Has Gone Up

"Tax revenue to the government is actually gone up. Ladies and gentlemen, it's not open for dispute. I know liberals are pulling their hair out flying at their faces right now screaming, eager to call in the show say, my liberal sociology professor told me otherwise. He's an idiot. I'm sorry you could actually go to the government Treasury tax tables and see after Reagan. So when they cut the tax rates, people with money, went back and took that money and invested in the economy and what happened. People in the economy. They invested it in, got more jobs and paid more taxes. The economy grew So even though it was a smaller percentage of the money from the rich. The pie was so much bigger that the revenue was higher matter Fact it doubled from the time Ronald Reagan got into office until he left. By the way, liberals you couldn't do that homework yourself. It's very easy. What about inflation adjusted yet even inflation adjusted. The tax revenue went up dramatically. Andy Puzder is a great piece of real clear. I really, really need you to read. It's fantastic about Biden's lies. It's called Biden and the 1% in my newsletter. Dated June 2nd 2021. You've probably been told right. The 1%. They really got over on the trump tax cuts right? Liberals told you that media people who have no idea what they're doing. They can't even do journalism. No less economics. They told you was all for the 1%. Definitely. Really. Here's a quote from Andy Puzder's piece using, you know, data and facts and

The Disappearance of Jennifer Fay: A Three Decade Mystery

"Jennifer fay case was broadcast on a national outlet. I don't know if it was america's most wanted or unsolved mysteries but it was somewhere out there. The jennifer fay team had hotline and they got two calls one from louisiana. The other one from california both saying the same thing that i think i know who you're looking for and she is in louisiana so the team started looking into and they started noticing that the mystery woman's started at the age of sixteen at about the same time the jennifer's history disappear. So that makes sense the. She looks similar to what they think. Jennifer would look like today and her handwriting even look at the handwriting and and that was similar So the the jennifer fait team here massachusetts contacted. Private is down in corpus christi. Because the information was this woman married somebody who was in the navy and that person relocated from louisiana to corpus christi. They found the house and they had somebody watched this woman and And then they reported. I think the shot some video and sent it back and showed the pi team. The team's doing all this work dotty has no idea what's going on. And they debated whether or not they should tell her where they didn't want to get her hopes up and they were not one hundred percent convinced they just thought it looked good and they did get to the point where they said to daddy. This is what we're thinking about. We want to bring you down. We want you to see this for yourself. That's fox twenty. Five reporter bob ward. He's been working the jennifer fake case. "Area, which is I got one and they didn't but yeah, various distros are working on porting everything to to their dismay. So risk five is it's a different CPU architecture. It's you can't take the arm build of Adventure and run it on this. You have to do a complete, billed for both wrists, so it's not for risk for risk five, right? Yeah. It's it's as different as armies from x86 riskiest for Mom. It just looks similar cuz it's like a, it's a board game like a Rosewood Pine. He's got the 40 pin head of the Raspberry Pi has has compatibility from Hardware point of view to some degree or familiarity. Not necessarily compatibility. It's got ethernet. Couple of USB port, four years, in fact, HDMI. It's powered off a USB C charger, which I think it came, I think it gave me the cable, it didn't come with a charger but that's okay. Cuz I got plenty of life. It's got eight gig of RAM on. This particular board is pretty production board, it's an audio interface Wi-Fi. Bluetooth not everything works yet. And some things are a little bit up and down because wage So people have had the boards for like, two weeks. So yeah, it's it's early days but it's super fascinating. So this sounds like a real sort of community outreach Endeavor to actually sort of Leverage, the power of community to sort of, do the hardware bring up on this device. Yeah, they've got a beagle of got a slack, a community. And they've also got wage, of course. And on discourse, it's super active. Every time I go there, there's new threads and there's conversation going on. A very friendly conversation and there's Drew from the beginning of organization is you know, corralling people and making sure we're not, you know, overlapping and you know not doing things as per month. Payments of the of the project really I wouldn't have a porting some of the applications that I've made a snap. So I wanted to make them available as risk five years Unfortunately, there's some blockers in the way and I have to wait for some of the ability people to do their stuff. So I'm going to look at some other things in the meantime at the moment. I'm just really playing with it fascinating. I suppose it's worth pointing out of the oven to have been bringing up risk five in the archive, for a couple of years now and I well last I heard it was mostly there. Maybe Ellen knows more. Yeah, it is, but it's very much like, you know, bringing up a new arm board. Most of the packages are built for the architecture, but there's Harbor enablement to do to. You know, make sure you get something aught serial interface, and make sure you can talk to the HDMI port and all that kind of stuff. And there's there's new Hardware in this thing. So, you know, it's there's a, there's a bit of enablement to do that, but looks like the Border in the right half of lots of different people and me. Brilliant

Alternative Online Marketing Solutions to Third-Party Cookies

"When we last spoke you described two approaches to solutions there being worked on one a browser approach and then a universal idea approach. Can you describe both of these. I mean because if we lose the cookie we tire lose targeting and personalization in marketing in the digital form anyway innocence. Yeah and one of the key thing to remember is it's not that all cookies are going away. I'm just third party cookies. So when you're on a website. Let's say you're on cnn dot com or new york times dot com when you're on some some major website and they drop cookies. Those are first party cookies so a domain that juror. That's indeed url bar of your browser. Cookies owned by that domain. Our first party cookies cookies that are dropped from other domains so you know it might be the publisher might be working with. Dsp or an ad server. You might see a domain like some t. s. p. or some ad server dot com and those would be third party cookies. And that's what's going to be blocked. So personalization will still be possible through cookies and through similar methods i party sense from a individual publisher. Or if you're on an advertiser website you'll still be able to to personalize their What you won't be able to do is personalize across sites based on an pages that you viewed or interactions that you've had on other sites so it's up completely going away but there's definitely going to be an impact to how personalization is done today in terms of the two methods right there's two camps like you said there's the browser camp which is being led more or less google and their their proposal of turtle dove and also flock and these are more where identification of audiences will happen in the browser. And then there are the user. Id based approaches unified ideas of major proposal in this space that there's a few others as well but these actually rely on logged in data from email addresses or other pi that similar and this will allow a hashed. Id's that personal. I'll get and then get shared around that way so this is somewhat similar to the way that that third party cookies functions then using a slightly different on to maintain that persistence of the id.

The Simple Life: Sweet Home Croatia

"Tired of the rat race mid western mom. Jennifer wilson decided up route or young family and seek out something simpler so she moved her husband and two kids to the croatian mountain village. Her great grandparents to learn what they would have taught her about life. Jennifer makes sense of her family's adventures in her book called running away to home. She joins us right now from the iowa public radio studio in des moines to tell us what she and her family gained from living in croatia. And how it's changed them now that they're back in america jennifer. Thanks for being with us. Thank you so much for having me. So you took your family from iowa to croatia. Set up the story here. When did this happen. Why did you do it. How long you stay well. It was in two thousand eight when the economy was melting down here in america we were really feeling a lot of restlessness at the time. So we sort of collectively decided as a family to take a big risk. We decided to get rid of all of our sort of consumerist lifestyle stuff and we took our young family to the ancient croatian mountain village of my ancestors in it was. It was a pretty amazing. Right how long did you stay in. Croatia trump. We were in the country itself for about seven months. The majority of that in the village itself is your husband croatian. Also he's norwegian alsacien but he sort of adopted my ancestors for the time we were in the village. It was really like hitting the reset button for our family. They're in what way. Well jim and i have a fairly modest lifestyle here in the midwest but even a family like us sort of in our american culture tends to super size everything and we were just ready to kind of get away from the american buzz and we went back to the most basic way of living. We were living in a small pen sione in this very small village that felt like it was suspended in amber since my great grandparents left and it really gave us the time and space to connect as a family we wanted less business in our world and we thought there can be no better way of doing that than going to a place where there was really nothing going on We had heard a few things about mirka pie research and a scouting trip and indeed. It was sort of this quiet time outland. It felt like to us

"X hollow lies in a heavily wooded area of york county pennsylvania. It has these centuries old farmhouses they give off this eerie vi- like something sinister happened there because well it did. The story starts before the great depression in the year. nineteen hundred. the american dream is alive and well. The economy is chugging along and agriculture is prospering pennsylvania. It is kind of this. Fresh land of opportunity and german settlers are flocking to your county hoping to grab a piece of the pie. One of these is the blind meyer family. They settled down in your county about a twenty minute drive north of hollow. But they're not making a living off potatoes corn like most of their neighbors. The blind myers are in the business of magic. The father a guy named immanuel blind meyer practices a form of pennsylvania german folk magic known as power. It's this combination of rituals medicinal potions and christian prayers. That are meant to do good so save. Someone's farm is in producing enough crops or they come down with the flu. They could go to a powwow healer like emmanuel for help he'd suggest may be a ceremony or he'd blessing. That could help fix the problem. That might sound niche. But america as a whole is pretty open to spiritualism at this time and an estimated. Half of your county believes in witchcraft. And hexa which is basically the power of which is secure people. As far as they're concerned how is just as real as any medical treatment provided it's done right in the year nineteen hundred emmanuel's five year old son. John comes down with a mysterious illness. How to Snack Smarter

"Is snacking important for all of us sherry. So basically snacking is important and it really depends on your meals so if you're eating something small or something isn't very filling to begin with then. It may not hold you over to your next meal so having that snack is gonna keep you satisfied in the meantime which will prevent you from overeating at your next meal which can lead to excess calorie consumption now however that snack itself should not lead to excess calorie consumption. So you wanna make sure that you're eating something nutrient dense not calorie dense a nutrient dense. Food will nourish us give us lots of nutritional value while low in calories and the calorie dense foods are higher in calories get provide little to look nutrition so meal planning should have also some snack planning and it and should focus on those nutrient dense foods and if something has a long list of ingredients it's probably highly processed and doesn't have much nutrition so focused on foods that are in their natural state and have minimal ingredients. Think an apple versus a slice of apple pie. Well that's no fun actually just gave my son some apples right now every afternoon. It at like three thirty. We have apple slices peanut butter and popcorn. That's like our little go to snack. Kimberly is there anything you would add to that. Why is snacking important. And do you have any general tips for how to make snacking healthier. I think sherri didn't really good job in that. You know that it's important. Add that into your meal plan. I think that's one of the things that people time to get more often is that snacking should be part of the meal plan. You have your meals but if you don't put it in your snack time to run to the nearest thing in your refrigerator or cabinet and that's when you'll snack unhealthy so i think it's really important to put that in part of your meal plan like sherry at mentioned but also in you're thinking of its neck and you think of your meal. Planning it should incorporate in macronutrients or shouldn't just be popcorn by itself. It should have more macronutrients like the high protein or the fiber also some of the carbohydrates in fact the shot a little bit of

Why Do Children Give the Cold Shoulder To Someone They Love?

"The time. I will let it go and how resentful indignant frustrated and annoyed are you. It depends. I don't like getting to the place where. I feel resentful so i try to do that. Enter talking and decide. Okay if i'm not gonna let this bother me. That i really have to let it go but i will say yes. There are times where. I will let it go. And i might be just a little. Ooh yeah like he's feeling for sure. Yeah it takes me just a little bit being like that and then we'll get through it and then it's fine and then there are times where i have that talk and i'm like nope. This is not okay with me. And i i wanted to talk about it and say something and have a conversation. Does it do any good. It does like we had a recent disagreement. Please tell so. I did not know that daisy and eric had had a conversation about getting daisy on tiktok to see an older cousin that we have in the family who has an account and she was excited about it and i did not hear about this and cut too i just heard that daisy was signing up for tiktok. How did you hear. She was coming over to eric and saying okay. Now what do i do. And he was telling her. Don't forget your password. Write it down somewhere and i ask. Oh but she doing joining terrorist groups ugly saying getting on tiktok. There was no discussion in my mind. I just reacted in that moment. And i said oh no. I don't want her on tiktok. That was a big thing for me. In hindsight i probably should have waited to. Maybe reacted one of the reasons that you react. That way is you are at a state of semi alert to alarm at all times and your waiting for the intel to drop. Yeah so you heard the words get on and tiktok and it had not been passed by you and that fell on top of a pile of frustration about this child man's judgment and the ambivalence you have about. What a warm loving fun guy so close to his daughters his daughters who are coming of age and we'll have crushes on boys and they are getting so deeply cherished by their sweet dad and at the same time you know so much about what goes on in the world of social media and girl self esteem and identity and sexuality that you have your good angel and the devil gas each on your shoulders arguing at all times. The corpus callosum the connects the right and left hemisphere of women's brains is thicker than in men and it means that women naturally us both sides of their brains to make decisions and for men. It's sometimes a little bit more easier and direct. Is it a cousin or a friend who was on tiktok. it's my cousin's daughter cousins to hire so exciting celebrity family member on tick doing adorable vance and she has her own channel. So cool and now spoilsport. Here is hyper vigilant. That's what we call it. Then psychology jumping in to say you did what so what happened in that moment. The main reason. I got irritated as we were with our pod and there are a couple guys there too and it was very emasculating issues. Like no. she's not watching. Tiktok that okay. And i'm like and furs liberal. As i am parenting. I do default to whatever she says. I mean. i'm definitely the beta as far as you hear me fall to whatever. She says. you can't read her mind right. And so that's your intention and that's your kind of moral position but in a case like this and this is a beautiful example here you were joining with your daughter. In a celebration of cousins expansiveness on the magnificent new platform tiktok swirling the pandemic world with joy. And then this bitch comes in humiliates you in front of your friends or male and female pie and you think okay. I'll just swallow this and eat some more sugar with the girls and it will be totally our country. Exactly the ugly. What happened so get resolved. So the next morning i went to bed it was bothering me and i did feel bad for the way that i handled it so no conversation between the afterward no thanksgiving night. We're both. oh yeah. Yeah so the next morning. I said something i said i you know i'd really like to get this off my chest. What time what plays what. Words was probably around nine. Am and i think. I use the words. I'd really like to get this off my chest and were the two of you alone. Girls there were alone and he was not in the most open mood. But i felt like i really wanted to talk about it in the kitchen. Seated standing i was seated. He was standing. How'd you had breakfast her. Yeah so i started with. I really wanna get this off my chest and correct me if i'm wrong. I said you know. I want to have a conversation about tiktok ortho. I want to back up just a little bit. Because we're going to parse words sir. I really want to get this off my chest. Strikes

"It's been a freaking well. But i will say this with the asterix of it's not always readily available. Okay so i think actually if it were always available if they were more of a staple. I probably wouldn't like it as much. Because it's it's very good in small doses. The it too much of it. Then it's it could be too much. And i know this because i was in key west florida earlier this year and had key lime pie a out my ears. Because that's were came from so every place claims that there are the original key lime pie blah blah blah blah. Hate the. who's the original right philly cheese steak. It's like i don't care. I don't care who's the original who's the best that making it now. Yeah because especially a lot of recipes. You know buffalo wings for example. It's like okay. Somebody came up with this idea and it was a great idea. They did not crack it on the first draft though somebody else always took that idea of what a great idea but they you know one tweak this this and this that's how it works exactly and now it's ten times better so i don't like i he The first rock and roll band saying y'all had to keep listening in that same rock and roll. Then i will say this. I'm realizing the privacy exception. That proves the rule that i did go to. What a puerto rico. The the place that Is famed for being the first pina colada that they invented the pina colada were lying to you know it wasn't just that they told me that its earth publicize all over the place. I think it is like proven like yeah. They came up with this. And i will tell you it was a damn good pina colada but i think because they just stuck to the core ingredients. They didn't try in like neil. Mix it up or whatever yeah tom. Have you ever had lemon meringue pie. Only thrown in my face have you ever had. Have you ever had sweet potato pie. There's sweet verse pumpkin pie. Kind of the rivalry. I don't like pumpkin pie. Don't like pumpkins. i like sweet potatoes. I don't like sweet potato pie potato pie. get outta here. I'll 'tatoes on their own. But what if there's cheese onions in their tier. Yeah then i'll then. I'll have some sure all right I would like to have a lemon meringue pie. I feel like that's an old timey pie that you don't see enough anymore. I'm not entirely sure what meringue is but it's delicious. it's like yeah it's like the fluffy stuff on top kind of like a icing not icing but like.

"What is the optimal like. Every two bites how great you should be focusing on your food when you eat it. You should be thinking about all of these. things should be focusing what. You shouldn't be stressing eating pie to be stressful stress in my life solution to that tim. You make sure you got tons of pie and tons of cheese on your plate and then you don't really have to worry. Make sure you have enough both set. You'll feel sick before you're done with either of them All right and then you don't have to worry about the ratios so my melted melted. Let me just say this milk. Who was trying to tell my mother. A well melted. Sharp cheddar cheese is not as good as co l. Cold cheddar cheese refrigerated cheddar cheese. I think it depends on the context. Not when you're talking sharp. What should the temperature of the of the banal. You're talking shop freely. Got me the temperature of the pie. Be warm okay. why Warm enough to have sex with the famous movie. Yeah sex pay. Yeah right but not so hot that you're gonna get a burn on your genitals. Let me ask you this wait. No that's not what. I know you were talking about your mother before. I interrupted she. She's gonna she's ordered me a pie for To throw in your face. I don't think we'll be spending thanksgiving together. due to the pandemic so i think this is like a consolation pie. And i panicked instead. Apple pie okay. I like horrible right. I like apple pie. But like i like to think that i i'd have a little bit more of an outside of the box. Well here's the thing. I originally said pumpkin pie. But my wife's like. I don't like pumpkin pie right and then i was like apple pie. Guess because i panicked then then we got off the phone. Yeah it was just like all financially ruin you and you'll be eating shit out of the garbage. Tom is it too early for us to reveal. What our favorite pies. It's too early chimney guy key people listening till the end. That's why people are tuning in. You're not going to believe. What am i ever is. Wow what a tease tom. Let's go through the most common Suite buys this is what you would find in a normal year. Not this year On the table at my thanksgiving gathering. Usually i have hundreds of people some of my extended family my closest friends in hundreds of my biggest fans. We all get together and we We have thanksgiving dinner together and then the dessert table. I've never been invited to thanksgiving. Eyder house him. So i don't think this could possibly be true. I mean maybe you should work to be a bigger fan. Note that tim. That's not what we're not related. You're not my family. Now you said some of your closest friends did i say co workers. Tom coburn i. I will take that comment back. You're right but but this year you've you've narrowed it down to just because of covid nineteen restrictions Tight five dozen of your closest. Yeah second sixty. Yeah it's majority fans and then only my elderly relatives right. Yeah well it's only fair. Doesn't want to make them feel left out. Exactly the look. American style Apple pie had he feel bad in. Hey what's more american than apple pie. I'll tell you apple pie mode. Even though that sounds like fancy pants french terminology. Yeah no but i've answering the mood. But i've also talked at length on this by guests about my predilection towards apple pie and a slice of very sharp cheddar cheese on the side. I haven't yet tried that. You got a tried. you haven't lived. Well here's the thing you go back again. It goes back to my airline food being delicious. But that's more look. That's a subjective state and that's a psychotic but apple pie and very sharp cheddar cheese nice cracker barrel sharp cheddar You go back and forth between these. Very savory very sweet tastes and it just accentuates both of them beautifully sweet and savory would've thought Tom how do you feel you see people when the heat up a slice of apple pie. Sometimes they'll put up Slice of cheese on it. Yeah like melted on. I was gonna say to me. Yeah the when oh to go together and usually like alternate like nah. I wanna fork full with all see i. I completely disagree when people do that. It disgusts me. Because that's not the way it's supposed to be. It's supposed to be two separate things because you don't necessarily want a tasted cheese with everybody of apple pie. is there. Almost as not a pallet cleanser but a pallet boost hanser early. I get it. You know what to me. I stress over like then..

"Insane. But why does it sound insane. Things sound insane until you realize like it's all the same ingredients. There's five tastes that i and i should be able to mix and match them with impunity. What in and that's the thing you step back and you realize well yogurt and sour cream really aren't very different at all. And if anything like greek. Yogurt is heavier than Sour cream or these sour cream. You buy store like a regular a you make at home. Well i'm just saying it about our your own cream them perhaps a friendship brain sour cream. I'm i'm partial to hood brand said. Oh yeah you know what. I don't think i've ever had a sour cream and notice. It tastes better or worse than any other sour cream. Unless it's gone bad and if you put plain greek yogurt on anything until we sour cream i would i would. I would not question it at my grave thing. You could really trick me. You could really pull one over on not so listen. There's a hot tip. You can put greek yogurt. You can substitute for sour cream and really do much. It's not like measurably healthier. I think people think it is yes absolutely not it has to be though it's lvad eat a bowl of yogurt is eat a bowl of sour cream right. I think society tells us that science tells us that i forget i'll i'll look it up. There is a difference between sour cream and yogurt. I feel like one is full fat. And the other one's not full-fat maybe yogurts not full-fat you can get all sorts of yogurt you can get. I don't get full-fat. I also get late. Sour cream but friends of the show robbing kaleen. They were the ones that turned me onto this whole yogurt sour cream thing with a very simple proposition when you buy sour cream how often indecent proposal when you buy sour cream. How often do you use all that sour cream. If you buy yogurt and use that sour cream well then you can have yogurt like normal now. I'm realizing as i say this the flip side of that is if i buy several cream. Maybe i can just start eating sour cream on its own and just have that be a thing i do. Yeah that way you're not wasting it down I stand corrected. Greek yogurt is higher in protein than sour cream and lower in fat in and cholesterol. Yeah so there you go. What's the difference in how they're made I'll tell you tom Greek yogurt is made from milk and live cultures. The bacteria for ferments the milk giving it a tangy taste and then Afterwards the liquid way is removed norgay sour cream is ed is made by.

"So a cheese and onion pie. Look honestly if i'm looking at it objectively. It's probably a bit too much. But i'll slice me. A little sliver of it at least tried to put something else in their potatoes. Yeah i think often it's Potatoes is the other ingredient. Nothing wrong with that but yeah potatoes agreed to i mean you. Can't you just pure cheese pie or appear onion pi. It's going to be too much as disturbing say some potatoes. Potatoes will take con the cheese and onion taste. You know what. I've been eaten with some frequency lately. What's that string cheese. Were you a little boy. A little boy protein But what a indulgent treat. You just like a stick or just straight of cheese. Yeah we give the kids. It's just like here. Have this hunk of cheese. That's your snack. Have you ever had the baby bells. Yeah that's the string. Cheese has the benefit of you. Pull it off. So it's like it's like you're not just biting into a honk all the time but you can. You can tom. Hi used to do that because of a grown adult. Tom people saw me do that at work. they started. They started saying i was a serial killer like tendencies. Well that no. You're just a man who values his time as you said earlier in the episode so yeah need to play with my food. No they're seven years old. There's no reason why you have to eat string cheese that way. It's not like oh a traditional italian dish. You eat the mozzarella in strings. Yeah killer came up with that to get kids to stop eating so fast. All these next to you might surprise you. Are we going again to a. This situation is a hotdog a pie. No no well one of them. Maybe both of these. The first one frito pie. I would say that that doesn't count. it's a pi. It's got pie in the name. That's true scale pie in the sky. Frito pie is basically chilly. But poured into an open bag of fritos not I mean i guess technically you could do like family size bag. But but the way. I've experienced it. It's a single serve bag of fritos that then just chile is dumped into and then the fritos not only acts as a container for the chilly. But also you get some fritos in your chili and corn chips and chili. That's great delicious. Facet combination yeah. I know this is kind of bar. Food and i think of it more as kind of Frito nachos because the way that i've had it has also it's been topped with chili but then also Cheese and sour cream sake. Well i mean that if you're getting a nice chilly there that's what they're going to put on top of it because it doesn't matter how good the chili is is going to be better with cheese and sour cream on top of it now. You're not you're not nowadays a yogurt on top of your chili guy. I am just plain yogurt. Yeah i've been converted greek yogurt yes sounds.

"And it's just that focus. Playing a real what I call a real clean game. Call the ducks. Get them in close. Make ethical shots. Knock them down and just really go all anish like Steve Back when I was an archer. Let's say flatfish cows, watching some guys on the river fly fishing of day. You know what I think about it is how. Fly Fishing if really not about. Getting Greece hotton eight, it's an art. It's a ritual process and Mariah does God really getting into it. And that there's some pure about that to me. There's a big big portion of my. Enjoyment from cutting that comes from and I'm not gonNA. Put some arbitrary percentage on it, but. anticipation. You know some of the some of the in fights I've been on. You know I'm to a point right now. There's places in the world. I'd like to go hunting down in South East Asia. I know to go to north. Korea I'm probably going to have to know somebody pretty hot, the food chain to get into North Korean comfortable about it, but I'd love to go. And now got good dot COM North Korea bet they do. Better somewhere they got some good dogs and got some species. Find anywhere else you know, but but you know it's gotten to. The point is I get unbiased I. Get contacted by people you know I've I've just got you know two or three fingers worth the question I've got to ask. Hunting legal is spacey's legal. Are. Holding a gun believes. You can't hold a gun you can't. You can't hold ammo. There's countries that that's a real big deal you know, and and so I started asking. These questions have been imbibed. You know come to Japan I got invited combat Japan, what there are no legal hunting, I've been invited to go to Turkey, their big game hunting bird hunting. I've been invited to go to the Bahamas. The, Cuban westerns in the White Gene Pinto protected. You can't go there. You're talking about the the grayness of laws we would go. spearfishing the Bahamas, my brother goes quite a bit and. You can just use a sling. You can't use like a gun you know. But he did a lot of work because he never could get straight answer. So he works works works to get like the rigs. What are the rules? There might not be any well. There are, but when you express them to the people down there. there. There's no such thing as that rule. Right dude I'm telling you I'm looking at it right here. Here's the rules. No Man you fish where you want man. It's your rule, dude, go tell you cannot on these certain islands, you cannot spearfish within whatever two hundred yards of show or something like that and they like almost act like hostile to the idea. And, like how big A. Big spiny lobster supposed to be yeah, no man. You keep what you Mama. Nobody nobody can afford it down here. They're like, don't even. They only want go down that path of talking about there being rules about this. You, guys got to borrow a gun everywhere right now. I'd someplace you have to. You know. Peru has some weird issues where you can't bring guns and we use. There's As by John saying right, yeah, no, no, it uses eighty, bringing a gun into or by John is it is Canada really yeah, it is. It was his eighty bringing firearms into Pakistan. It would and your ammo your own gun india-pakistan. I cannot remember. We got the permit for him. where he run into a problem. Bring your own ammo is weight restriction airline rules? If you can get a permit for the fire arm permit for the AMMO, but where you run into problems, is airlines allow eleven pounds right, and they've got restrictions on just how much growth poundage can be bringing bringing bags anyway so? That gets a little iffy, but bringing guns was know the craziest thing going as clarify like. The part. About guns, like the some countries I can just picture countries having not enough demand from international travelers trying to bring in Firearms David bothered to set up a system by which it's done like doing a Mexco. We did every year, but it's a nightmare I mean. They put together a system, but is a very very clumsy system that takes how how long have to start ahead of time Yanni. well, yeah, we just turned in our information for next January's hunt and it's it's you know. He'll land on a bureaucrat day, ask. Can we do in June? So in June laying the groundwork to bring a gun into Mexico in January. I don't know how our clients do it. In parts of Mexico, where we fly into her Maceo, but if you can give me that information. Within. Two weeks three weeks her outfit or get permits for in. The guy the guy we go with like he runs a extremely. Tight ship. He's very organized. That doesn't like surprises now. No. Nobody likes? That when you traveling hunting. Nobody likes to progess. Breaking I had a client, one time that was one of those clients wanted to go. Do real real stuff, so we were going to Mongolia. And I was talking to him I. Just WanNa make me. Oh. They're going. You know, a lot of things that don't work, and and I had to do a lot of still getting no male have no mailbox. None. No male. I don't exist. So the washing machine is coming today. Yeah. And I have someone who will be waiting for it when it arrives. It wasn't going to come until may twenty four. So you so I'm very very antsy to grab this now that it's coming I was able to get one out of a different warehouse. But if you don't answer the call when they when they call you thirty minutes delivery, then they will not deliver. So that's what that was. I'm sorry. Yes. The washing machine. Thank machine calling. Yes. Well, not the washing machine itself. They, you know nowadays with this part. Machines. They can't call. We have have taken out everything. There's no more nothing is wireless here. I have run I have one every single congressional district in my state, including Michele Bachmann. Okay. It's when you guys are supposed to cheer, okay? Lame. Please clap was it on the prompter then. But that was my first question where she reading it from prompter. I don't think so these town halls are interesting. They're sitting down on kind of stool like chairs, and then the question is asking then the candidate always gets up and starts answering the question to the crowd. It's a very unnatural format and kind of goofy to be honest. And now, I'm just thinking, perhaps, that's you gotta get up. The see the prompter. Possible. The other thing is is like if they're gonna make these things so rigged. And so scripted put an applause sign up people. Do it. Gladly apply. We need sign finger on the button, the applause side, exactly applause.

"Like cliche, like being a social liberal and a conservative fiscal conservative. That doesn't mean they're moderate. That means there is social liberal and a fiscal conservative. Like that's, you know, it's two different things. They don't cancel each other out in the middle. Do you know what I mean? That doesn't mean that they're that doesn't mean that they're, they're fiscal. They're conservative fiscal beliefs are moderate conservative fiscal. They're conservative, you know, as far as like people who aren't voting and and can't in who the Democrats should be asking to vote. I think that outreach to Trump voters is of limited value, unlimited gain. I'm not really talking about Trump voters. I'm actually just talking about people who find themselves alienated by all side. Right. I do think that there is that kind of writer out there. Well, I actually would say what is going to be distinction is between Trump voters and people who don't vote. I think it is very worth the democratic parties in the, you know, social Justice movements while to activate people who think that they're shut out of the system because you know what those people are shut out of the system on all the time, their their reasons for not voting or kind of good reasons. You know, like if you've seen that America doesn't care about people like you, whether that means you're like lower class or not college educated or not white. Then asking someone to participate in that system. Of course, you're going to be reluctant. Of course, you're going to say like, I don't know why I should bother. Right. Like if I'm poor and I just keep getting poorer like no matter who is in charge. You know, asking me to getting that person to to take valuable time out of their day. And this isn't even get into like, right, like all the structural problems that there are that exists in order to suppress people who are already like cynical about the system suppress the votes of people already cynical about the system. Yeah. Yeah. I guess my sort of feeling is if you're cynical about the system, then you probably want the kind of reforms that progressives have to offer, like you were probably a voter who would benefit from the kinds of things that people like you and me want to put in place. I think that's true. I think that's absolutely true, but I actually I've my feeling is that we're kind of saying the same thing, what we need around those, the those kind of the around the talk about how the system doesn't work for that many people or doesn't work for many Georgie of people is an emotional appeal because you have what. What you see with Trump and with the people who are in his camp is this very emotional appeal based on fear. You go to these rallies, and it's really, they're really about fear and and they're about they're kind of about hatred, honestly. And if we don't have a compelling emotional way to reach people, then we will lose. You know you, of course, you're going to lose two to emotions that strong to an emotional appeal that that vivid and obvious as stupid as it looks to us. You know, reaching people at that level at that emotional level in it seems like it's something that's a little bit missing from the picture at this moment. It's not that it's not that liberal policies don't make perfect sense for working class. People in middle class people do. It's not that you can't point to a long list of atrocities that have been put into place by Trump's administration. It's that you the translating these things into a into a positive counterpoint. You know, a very emotional passionate counterpoint. It's something that Bernie Sanders admittedly did really well when he was campaigning. And it's something that I think is is missing a little bit from the picture. And and part of that is is inclusively I feel I feel strongly that you knew you name the people, you wanna lift up and you include as many people as you can in that narrative. If that makes any sense, it makes total sense. And what I was about to point out is I think you're right, you know, Betto and a Bama and Bernie Sanders. And gosh, I wish I could name a woman, but it can't off the top of my head have done a good job of activating those emotions a load..

"I think what's freeing. I it's freeing to know the myths though, right? Yeah, because I think one won miss that we tell each other right is actually as to do with the fact that these small towns were somehow like always small towns that always had the same vibe, even like Durham, like Durham probably has a former complex history than the twenty years you grew up there. I mean, I'm no that it does, right? No, it's only as complex. I know it to be on a. I mean I I was born there in one thousand nine hundred seventy which was a full two years before you were born. So don't think you can tell me, yeah, there's there's there is a complex history to these places that we, you know, when people say like, I just don't want it to change. Yeah, like the thing that they wanted to stay nineteen seventy-five forever. Yes. Now what they mean? What they mean is that I don't want to change from the way that it is that I know it. Yeah, because places are always changing. The literal complexion of places are always changing, right? And there's always like periods of up people in violence that kind of written away. That's right. That's right. Now we're experience a period about people and frankly, violence and what I think those of us who want to keep moving forward or saying, is that you, you have to understand that this isn't abnormally. This is actually part of what we have to do all the time in order to change the structure of society that is true, but I, but but there's an emotional appeal, right? I mean back sure. Was set emotional appeal. With thinking that I'd be the pied piper of feminism. For example, you know, it was sort of like you connect you connect to see now I'm onto strategy because I feel that you've implied that I'm not sure she Shukan by spreading the word and becoming the pied piper. And now I want to be the piper again, but but I actually think that if you address the fear I, I was kind of getting to this like, you know, a little bit of empathy goes a long way, and if you address the fears that are there, I mean it's hard because you you sort of don't wanna cater to, you know, the sort of awful deep team seated racism that lives in all of us Ben. Yet by the same token, I think that I think that teasing out the racist pieces of it is actually I feel like it's possible to do that. If you start from a place of, you know, a lot of complaints. A lot of things have changed. You know, a lot of things have changed. And we all want. We all have a nostalgic for a dream of America that probably never existed and only we don't all have that. Nostalgia, that's me. But yes, you're talking about the old white people. Sure..

"I actually thought that my trajectory would be that I would translate feminism for essentially for douche Bros. I mean, I didn't really call them that at the time. They're like my buddies. They were just your friend. Just your friends. Okay. I know I, it's like it's like saying I was friends with all the sewer rats and they were my buddies, and I wanted to put some nose into Sura language. And I, you know, I still have a few friends from that time, but but not a lot, but but yeah, I thought I was going to be kind of like a pied piper of paper today. This lead them towards the light, you know, and and that was really, I was pretty passionate about that, but I was also a drunk and I was also, you know, confused person. I was also really angry and confused, and bewildered and insecure as you will recall is, is most of us were really, yeah. I'm, I mean, included? I, I was thinking on the way here, what kinds of people would be attracted to work for a place called suck dot com. You know, I mean. Kind of angry people, you know, self hating insecure, and that's what I kind of love about us in retrospect. But at the time you know, we were all kind of like like angry rats that would turn on each other every so often. Yeah, but we needed to pied piper to lead us. I know. And I, I wasn't evolved enough at that moment to do the job, not not by longshot. So anyway. Yeah, I, I was I did have political aspirations in some ways in whatever kind of broken way that you have them and also the times. And you know, obviously, we, we both wrote for sock and we unsought was its own kind of interesting sort of woke place, and it was also kind of a ridiculous pretty unpeeled, the obnoxious aggressive, you know, train wreck in in various ways. So you know that. The times were very different. I mean, I would say that like the politics there was, I mean, kind of a sneering. Celebration of anti consumerism that sometime took the form of consumerism. Yeah, like we would be we -ironically consumerist sometimes, but there is a lot of suspicion about the systems that we were embedded in. I don't think any of us had liked developed like a critique if that makes if you if there's a distinction, but we were suspicious of where we were and like what the political system kind of was around us. I suspect that Carl Steinmann had a pretty well formed. Pretend I'm on it. He had a lot of critics bouncing around in his brain at that moment. You know, in some ways I thought that he was he. I mean, Joey. I don't know they they, they were pretty intellectually ripened at that. You know, in a ways that I, I definitely wasn't back then, but yeah, yeah. And we speak of the two guys that we worked for that people listening to this podcast probably don't know are Joey NFL Carl's deadman, Google them. And you were all younger than me. I just wanna. I just want to mention that once again. You are? Yes, we're all young, but not by much. It seemed like a lot to seemed like south teams vary much not a wide Gulf between twenty five and twenty three. That's right. But again, so I feel like you know, I blinked in, you know, twenty years later you were doing..

Once upon a time nestled into the gentle bend of a lazy river, There was a little village called Hamlin. The people there lived happy lives, They would fish and they would farm and the kids would run through the fields after school, playing tag among the swaying maze of corn stocks. It was a perfect little village until one chill fall day. The rats came. Why? Or where Froment No one could say one day They were just their flowing into the village, like a furry grey stream. They weren't the friendly sort of rats that some people keep as pets either. They were big and mean and mangy with cloudy red eyes and sour smelling for They poured into homes and nibbled away all the food. They poured into factories, a nibbled away all the supplies they even poured in. To bedrooms and made people sick with swollen Knacks before the people of Hamlin could react life in their quiet little village was nearly ruined. They soon called a meeting of the villages leaders. They were a council of elders led by a cunning old Mayor. Once the meeting was called to order, they decided to pool their money and hire some ratcatchers experts who came to small villages like Hamlin trapped, unwanted Rodin's and took them away.
