Brooklyn Nets hire Hall of Famer Steve Nash as head coach

"Welcome to the low post podcast where the plan was to talk hilariously awful game sevens and DEFCON. In Milwaukee with the one and only Kevin Arnovitz but Mr Kevin Arnovitz about five minutes ago news dropped from the news gods on Mount Olympus of Basketball Steve Nash Steve Freaking, Nash, two time. NBA Mvp. The point God of the seven seconds less Phoenix Suns will become the head coach of the Brooklyn Nets. This is I think the first one since Brad, Stevens to Boston were like the news came although that came via a press release the celtics that one themselves where the news came like an earthquake with absolutely no warning no rumors know anything all the rumors moghreb Popovich a note, Steve Nash. So Steve Nash Has Minimal coaching experiences consulted team Canada. I'm not sure again this just happened I haven't looked up his exact role, a team Canada he was a consultant with the Golden State, warriors GM. You might have been the GM GM Canada. You're right. And I think clearly relevant in his consultation with the Golden State. Warriors developed a close relationship with Kevin Durant and I and they worked together in the off season a lot on various aspects of Katie's game in I interviewed. Steve Two years ago. About Kevin I wrote a big piece in the two thousand eighteen finals or so anti climactic that my big final piece was not about the finals at all it was about like what is Kevin Durant WanNa be as a basketball player like what is Kevin Durant? You Know Kevin Durant and his entire career has been. You could argue who was the quote best player on the team with the warriors not with the thunder he was clearly the best player on the thunder team but was never the lead ball handler of his team. So I wrote this sort of like, what is Kevin Durant and Steve Talk to me in depth about their relationship and about how after the warriors won the first title he and Kevin would talk about how Kevin did not fill fulfilled by. Winning that title in the way that he expected that it did not give him the fulfillment that he expected all this. So I, think that's obviously A big reason why Kevin by Steve Nash is now the coach of the nets. I mean the nets have lots of stuff to not figure out they have to superstars coming back carousel avert head. As you know like a superstar scoring run I guess in the bubble they gotTA figure out fits those guys I mean, what's your? What's this just happened? What do you think what's happening? So, one way to look at this is what is the head coach's role in two thousand and twenty, twenty one and to a great extent. Especially when you have talent like durant irving, you're in the talent management business, you're in the business of men managing relationships, empowering players the right way. Their XS and os no. By the way if there's anybody who's the personification of modern basketball, it's this guy or like everything you and I talk about every single time I'm on can in some ways be traced back to that son's team. So you're talking about a guy with an enormous. Basketball IQ and by all accounts and emotional IQ as well. So. So, that that is the case sport that that look that is the primary responsibility of the New Jersey Nets. Can you listen to me Brooklyn Nets had could they're

Cory Schlesinger On Isometric Training

"Welcome to another episode of the show. I know you've probably if you've been following this show, you've probably caught a couple of McEwen as that I've put on and decided, it's time to not just do them myself. Because I enjoy answering questions, but in addition to have to kind of check and make sure I'm not double or triple covering old question. I just thought it'd be more fun to get more minds involved in this segment of the show and I always enjoy whether it be an episode with three people or four, generally speaking the more the more people in the conversation. It's always a good thing and. And also I just love talking to Corey. So I wanted to get him involved on the the QNA. Here just a quick back onto for those you guys who aren't too familiar with corey his work. He is the head, strength and conditioning coach for the Phoenix Suns. He's spent the last or the previous three years as the head of basketball athletic performance for Stanford University. He was involved at a couple a D. One schools before that he's also trained pro athletes Olympians, and it's just overall as a coach in his overall a coach who? Is incredibly creative, but also is incredibly practical and athletes centered in the way that he views train. The training of the athlete core is a guy who not only has a great mind for the strength element things, but also played basketball in the college level and is continually. Looking at a wider more zoomed out view of what what training athletes means in context of becoming a better player. So for the show we took you guys as questions on social media, a lot of them were directed towards US specifically core issues on athlete autonomy in his training system, but also some great questions on isometrics foot training. Combining strength with sports, skill, training and more This was a really fun show and I will say definitely the questions are probably a little bit more geared towards cores neck of the woods, which is awesome. I mean honestly I I would just as well consider this a second interview with Corey just as much as a Q. A.. It's just fun to answer these questions alongside him so for episode to eleven. Let's get onto this QNA with myself and Corey slesinger. I. We got a special QNA today. I was sick of just doing myself and some super excited. Have Corey here so welcome to the Q. and Corey. Hey glad to be able. All right well, so let's get rolling. Thanks Irwin. Who who pop questions I? Think we just ask for my instagram this time instead some different mediums. Usually, that's where most of them come from anyway, so ause kick it off. Acceleration Randy Petersen thanks for the question he asked about the utility of ground-based strength, tumbling, crawling ruling, wrestling with pro athletes, and so maybe this could be framed to like a college versus pro, or as he worked through the levels What do you think about that one corey in in different populations. You know it's it's interesting because everyone, no matter what if you're professionalize your amateur? They all fit on a spectrum of their own developments, so like taking a. Broad like. Tumbling good for professional athletes, yes, if they're lacking certain things and the same of amateurs. Yes, if they're lacking certain things, but we gotta look at it more so in my opinion is you gotta? Just do it needs Alice. And where that athlete is currently, you know it's not this cutoff point where all of a sudden they're professionals. They don't need to do XYZ or there. Is there an amateur, so they have to do x Y and Z. You have beautifully gifted genetic athletes who don't eat a lot of art work to be hundred percent hottest, and so then you skip a lot of those steps, or you have more strategies in place to keep them. Them playing or keep them doing the things that make them awesome on the court or on the field, and then you have some that are like well. They're grinders are the ones that constantly need that training stimulus or that controlled stimulus to help them develop or stay more robust than those athletes in the woods yet? Maybe they do any more quote, unquote, ground-based work, or they need more skill acquisition, not from a skill perspective on the court, but just from a human perspective, and that's where for me. It's everybody across the board on your child won't do your DNS in stages, or you're an elite level athlete, who seven foot tall and do a backflip duck. All of them need some form or fashion of. Tools that will allow them to get in and out of scenarios via falling which everyone in some point we'll go through or you know being ground-based and being able to stay able is and being able to express that or not only express forces, but also be able to hush this to be able to sustain them to be able to of our accepts them into. Be Able to redirect them, and that's where I think there's a question that was presented earlier. The France Bosh you. How does this influence? I guess some of these things. Just self organizing and that's what I think. Tumbling willing comes into the equation as Yom. You're just giving them exposures them. How to self organize in areas that might not be. Normative values are a plane basketball on a hardwood surface which requires as a ton of stiffness. How about we actually teach them how to fall and get more compliance so they can keep receiving

The Glamorous Lakers' Unlikely Leader

"So Kevin. In spite of being blown out the other day in Boston the Lakers are still the number one seed in the West and everything is sunshine and rapes around the staple center but a year ago. It felt like there was a storm cloud hanging over the franchise. I had magic Johnson. President Basketball Operations nations stepping down team fired their head coach. Luke Walton and then they chose Frank Vogel as his replacement awesome and there was a perception around here in Los Angeles that it was a pretty uninspired choice right in some ways frank. Vogel is the Ultimate Safety School. So for the Los Angeles Lakers Kevin Arnovitz is an NBA insider for ESPN. They went after Monty Williams former player who has immense amount of respect but at the end of the day he got a much more appealing offer from the Phoenix Suns. Tai Lue was a top choice. Lebron's former coach NBA Championship. Cleveland Cavaliers in two thousand sixteen. And what are the Lakers. Do they offer him a contract that I think it's fair to say was. Maybe not befitting a championship coach. There's sort of a standard now for for what a NBA coach gets in terms of the years in terms of money and this particular contract offer fell far short of that to the point where I think the public certainly the perception within the League was here of the Lakers doing it again. They think they're the Lakers. They have this golden or around them they can just offer championship. Coach is his deals. That don't reflect that pedigree so they don't get money Williams tyler walks not for another job. He just walks and they get Vogel. I used to do a lot of L. A.. Sports Radio and I remember this announcement very vividly. Los Angeles Lakers fans. They were not happy. Happy Kevin in fact they were furious. Vogel I think at the outset was seen as an odd choice for a number of reasons. One one is. The Lakers are the Lakers. And they have traditionally gone after coaches. That are either real brand names or have this royal. LAKER occur bloodline they are part of the Laker family. So here comes Vogel who is coming off. Two year stint in Orlando where he lost twice as many games as he won one could say no fault of his own. It was it was a young mismatch roster of players. But he doesn't have a brand name he looks like an accountant announced he's never played in the NBA before so he doesn't bring with him. The story playing career so for a fan base and a franchise. That's always been very brand obsessed. Why are you getting this off? Brand coach was very much. I think the perception an off Branko. Now I'm imagining frank. Vogel at the Grocery store he's like the generic. I Love Kirkland. I I think that sets up this story very well because you great value. Oh you use the Kirkland of coaches and of course. The Lakers are widely perceived as his ex hyper glamorous NBA franchise in particular with Lebron James. They're going into an off season in which they're going to be trying to get free agents. This is before the trade for Anthony Davis and here comes maybe the least glamorous coach forget fans for a second just people inside the game fifteen choices of who is going to be. The next Lakers head coach. I don't I don't know that Frank Vogel would have been on one ballot. I'm not saying Bogle can't coach Lebron's right that's different. So how did he get start. Frank Vogel got his start by by being a pest he was division three point guard for a genie out of college and he became obsessed with Kentucky basketball when he was at home on winter. Break when you're watching that famous Duke Kentucky lightning later catches He decides I want to be part a big time college basketball. He's going to leave his division three school. He writes letters to the staff at Kentucky including Rick Pitino and they basically send back a form letter. Thank you for your interest. This is in the mid nineties so he decides. I'm just going to drop out of my college enroll at Kentucky. I'm GONNA drive there. Basically without an invitation nation. And I'm just going to hang around the facility. Whatever anything I can do to get inside volunteer? Whatever they need and little by little sure enough he hangs around enough due to the point? Where Jim O'Brien who was assistant to Rick Pitino said Okay Okay? We'll we have the video room. which at the time video rooms have become like the very sexy place to get your start as a coach? Now Erik Spoelstra Mike Putin Holzer Dave Fidel but back then it was still kind of a newish thing and so he just camped out in the video room and essentially became one of the best young video coordinators in all of basketball and to the point when when Pitino went to the Celtics they ultimately brought. Frank Vogel Oh go along with them. And then when O'Brien took over he promoted him again and so little by little. He's sort of the He's the kind of the little engine that could of basketball. So he dollars. O'Brien to Indianapolis. And that's where he gets his first shot as head coach. How does that go right? He gets to the Fr- what we call. The Front of the bench comes a top assistant in an Indiana Under Jim O'Brien O'Brien gets fired and Vogel's the next Guy Up Larry Bird actually ask Joe. Brian looked this. Guy's really loyal to you. Do you think you take the job. and Jim O'Brien profane. Lee said absolutely

Justin Verlander Says MLB Is Juicing Baseballs To Goose Up Offense

"Now just Inver lander had some interesting comments yesterday of course the Major League Baseball all star game is going on right now and I'll tell you how interested I am in the all star game I have the Phoenix Suns in the Memphis Grizzlies not their NBA teams their summer league teams battling it out in Las Vegas right now I could not care less about the all star game but just overlander talk to some reporters yesterday and he was incredibly critical of Major League Baseball and said that the following he told ESPN's Jaffa passin that the baseball's being use this season our N. F. ing joke and that he believes one hundred percent that Major League Baseball is implemented Jews balls to increase offense now wasn't just very lander that came out and said that and backed up it was echoed by nets a stake in the ground he said that he wasn't gonna disagree with her lander and Max jurors are of course another former tiger he came out and said it seems to travel differently sure Sir said the following quote all the rules that are changing the game that has to be cleared with the players but when the ball changes as much as it has over the last handful of years the players have no say in that whatsoever we as players wonder why the ball can change that much that fast and to have that big of results that's why as players we deserve an answer to what's going on end quote now get to robin for its report because he did speak with reporters today and you'll loudly came out against just Inver lander and against the speculation and you know any notion that the balls were modified to or do you see if you will to create more often to create more home runs but I guess I'll keep it as simple as this is this something or is this enough is Justin Verlander and match yours are they on to something here or is this just players over reacting sensitive little pictures given all angry because they're giving up the long ball more than they have in the past is their legs to this the phone numbers to four eight five or nine ninety seven ninety seven ticket taxes at nine seven one three six now as far as what Manford had to say today said quote baseball is done nothing given no older action for an alteration in the baseball the flaw in logic is that baseball once more home runs if you Saturn owners meetings and listen to people on how the game is played that is not a sentiment among the owners for whom I work end quote and I totally disagree with that I mean if you're in Major League Baseball your rob Manfred you're an owner your you know part of a team baseball needs more often I don't think there's any doubt about that so for me and for to come out and say that the owners are worried about more offense or being more interesting are appealing to young people I call B. S. on that Manfred also said quote there's no evidence from scientist at the ball is harder although he did acknowledge that the drag of the baseball is less he said that scientists haven't given an answer as to why the dragonglass ma'am for continued call pitchers have raised issues particularly about the tacky Nissen seems on the baseball and we do believe those could be issue there you go the phone numbers to four eight five nine ninety seven ninety seven take a tax is a nine seven one three six JV insurers are on to something here do you think that there is something going on with Major League Baseball do you think they have potentially altered or absolutely in fact used these baseball to increase home runs increase offense yeah by the way players have hit three thousand six hundred ninety one homers in the season's first half and are on pace to hit six thousand six hundred sixty eight homers which would obliterate the record of sixty one hundred five hit in twenty seventeen so they are on pace to set a record for home runs in a regular season I still don't buy that this is something Major League Baseball would do and think that they could get away with it I don't I think rob Manfred once more offense I think players now are being taught to hit the ball in the air and that ground balls and pop flies do nothing for you you'd rather of a strike out go for a home run get the ball in the air hit the gaps that's what baseball has become at the plate I do think that change has probably change the conversation the approach not only for hitters but also for pictures but I'm not gonna sit here and have this conspiracy theory thing where oh yeah rob Manfred in Major League Baseball they got in a closed room and they instructed the people over at Rawlings the manufacturers the baseballs by the way Major League Baseball owns they told them yeah we need to use these things come on and if that's the case Enver lander actually believes that need players believe it Major League Baseball continues tonight or fans later it changes everything why even play the game if that's something that you're going to you're gonna try to pull a fast one on the on

"There is a business aspect of it all. But the business is in some cloud in the sky making decisions. The business is people making decisions that affect other people, and I feel like. It's a cop out when we talk about the business because we always say it's a business. Well, yeah, that's, that's a bit of a cop out. It's people making decisions that affect other people, I think we could do a better job. And this is just me of conveying. The message that we do care about you and for me, I'm probably most proud of that. In my career is having. A number of former players text me all the time or call me just to say what's up, or I appreciate what you did for me. I didn't agree with it. But I respect it at Quincy pond, Dexter we played in Toronto last week and got the game seven and I come out of the locker room and Quincy pond Xers waiting on me like that kind of stuff means a lot to me. And it also affirms that I may be doing a few things correctly. Monty in the when you were ready to be head coaching candidate, again, last year after the tragedy, and then you went to San Antonio in the front office for a year plus, but even in the year there, I think, after the first year there you ready didn't happen. You go to Philly. And then there's some opportunities, but I think maybe in the time where you're getting feedback from team is about either why they didn't want interview or you interviewed, and, you know, and I think listen, I know there's jobs you could have taken that maybe weren't the right. Ones, but you're sort of evaluating the feedback of what people are saying here, the questions we have about you, hear the things we like these five or six things. But this seven thing is stopping. Were you hearing a consistent thing was at different everywhere? The fee was anybo- surprising to you based on how they were evaluating your time in New Orleans. No, I didn't never heard anything that was consistently negative. I did hear certain things about being tough on players. Not always valuing, what they wanted to do, and that for me was good stuff for me because I want to be a better coach won't be a coach players. Feel like they can be the best version of themselves around me. But I didn't hear that a ton. I heard it a couple times, and I was thankful to hear that, because that's obviously something I want to improve on and also self evaluate but not be too critical. One thing we do when we're coaching is we tend to over valuate ourselves, especially after getting fired, and that can be a bit of a fallback at times. I mean just listen to some comments, you know, coach beeline is going to Cleveland. And he's calling around talking to different coaches, and I think Jeff Van Gundy told him like, you know, don't listen to everybody, like sometimes we listened to so many people that we forget that we are pretty good at what we do. I mean, I'm an NBA head coach and I'm one of thirty in the world, not thirty and a state like I'm one of thirty in the world. And I don't say that era greatly, but it is what it is. And I know that I'm. I'm pretty good. At what I do I want to be better. And I say that respectfully and so, yeah, you hear stuff. But I don't think that's bad. I mean there are guys who can't shoot they want to improve on shooting there guys who don't pass. Well, there guys who have bad character be. And they can't stick with teams when you hear that feedback. You have to take it in and get better, and I feel I'm no different when it comes to coaching your life experience, since your last ahead coached the tragedy. You've gone through a different role as a parent..

"Welcome in to another episode of the ch- pod hair Phoenix with the new head coach for the Phoenix Suns. Monty Williams Monte. How are you wo- gem Wellman thankful to be on your podcast and certainly thankful to be a head coach again here in Phoenix? When you wake up in the morning now as a head coach is a whole different burden. What am I gotta get to today, especially when you take over the lots of things you've got to, but is there a different weight on you in the morning when its head coach it is because I have to not only be responsible for the leadership of the team. My role is also to provide for Sistan coaches, and their wives. Opportunities for them to be successful and get their kids set up and, you know, all that stuff, and it's important stuff that we have to do in, it's a privilege to do that. And at the same time, I'm dealing with a lot of guys who want jobs and the toughest part about coaching that we don't talk about is having to cut players that work their tails off, but just aren't good enough. And tell guys know that I can't offer them a job. And so I've been doing that. You know, thankfully, I'm in this position to be a head coach, but, you know, a lot of my time is talking to a lot of coaches and really qualify guys who could help your staff, but I had already targeted a number of guys a few guys that I wanted to come here to Phoenix. And so that part has taken up a lot of my time and then just. My family situated, they're still in jersey. Some of get them down here in June. But that's all good stuff. People knew you interviewed you met a couple of times, the Lakers, you met a couple of times with the sons, and in the end you decide to go to Phoenix, the questions that you had to ask, Robert sovereign the answers, you need it from him based on the body of work in what had preceded you your fifth coach in five years there. What did you need to know from him? What were the questions that you had to resolve in your mind before you would take that job for me? It was always about us, having a partnership, and that was the thing that Mr. server conveyed to me in our conversations and we, we had really good conversations, not just about basketball. We talked about family. We talked about the history of the team, we talked about our personal issues that we've dealt with in our families..

"Harden, westbrook. Harden, don't win December. It doesn't mean. Anything without via the cower global satellite. Chris Bruce are. Fast. One are NBA guys. Let let me start with that three and a half minutes to go. Steph had seventeen points. He ends with thirty three at the end of games five and six hardened is. You know, the numbers are fine. But he disappeared in five and Chris Paul was better in game six late. I thought this hurt hardens legacy. Dan. Tony's legacy does the window close in Houston for you. Let's start with that. Chris. You know, James harden? I just wanted to see if he showed up. I mean, I think they lost to a better team, even without Kevin Durant. But I can't be too critical of hardened because I do think he played. Well, like you said the numbers thirty five points a game forty five percent shooting for the entire series hit some big shots late in game six they just lost. I think my dad Tony his legacy at think gets hurt because of this. This is the Phoenix Suns of Steve Nash, they might dantonio ready to weaknesses lack of attention to detail. Non-confrontational those things hurt you win the gap between your teams is this big. And every little thing matters. And that's what's hurt dance only in the past. And that's what hurting this weekend with the rockets, but I don't I don't wanna say if you put a gun to my head and asked me will James harden win a title in Houston. I I. probably would say, no. But I don't think it's because of any lack in his game. I think is because right now, they don't have the pieces. They need a frontcourt player who can create some offense. So it's not all Jay's Paul Chris Paul are James harden. Chris Paul Austin rivers or or another guard like everything is created by guards in Houston heir. Gordon, be the other one they need a front core player. They could run pick a role with harden who can do more than catch a live at the rim and dunk it. I like Clint cappella I project this Colin Daryl Morey needs to get on the phone and call Philadelphia and offer Chris Paul for Ben Simmons. Loyd like that. I don't know if they would do L affiliate would do it. But been Simmons ca run the high picket role hard, and even though he can't shoot. If you pass it to him in a pop he can create a plate for himself or another team mate. That's something. They don't have. If you look at the history of the NBA teams that win championships have typically had a guard and affront core player who could create offense either for themselves or their teammates. That's what Houston lax. Let me talk about staff. I said this last week, and I'll say it again, I've never seen a player this revolutionary and this good who gets less respect. If you ask players. They like Westbrook over Steph. Why is it we constantly invalidate? I could argue. He's the best leader the best shooter and the best ball handler in the league. Why doesn't he get any love?.

All the challenges facing Frank Vogel, LeBron and the Lakers

"In the big story, of course, in the NBA is dude Frank Vogel on did you win the pool, by the way on the next Laker coach. Did you have Frank Vogel? Brinton was gonna be asking all the questions. What do you think surprise? Oh, yeah. I was the pri-. Well, I I was the price, you know, a few days ago in the whole Tyron Lutheran fell apart, and the fact of money Williams would rather go coach the Phoenix Suns Lincoln's, and you know. Luke Walton is happy coach in the Sacramento canes instead of the Los Angeles Lakers. I mean. Here really in trouble. Now, it could get better. There's there's a way to look at this summer where could get there. We about that in a minute if you want to, but you know. Frank pogo coaching LeBron right? Good luck within there. And then having Jason Kidd as your system, and you know, LeBron chaser gonna be whispering to each other the whole time their brands, and there was a live respect between them when they were players. Lebron sort of took over from Jason Kidd, triple double guy in the NBA. So I just think they they might have made dysfunctional place a little bit more dysfunctional that was possible. Now, if they if they get the players they need everything's better. So what if? Kyrie Irving to go there, you know. And if he goes there, maybe Davis strong arms trade, the Laker says look everybody, I'm I'm only going to go. The Lakers don't even bother trying to trade for me. Promise you I'm gonna opt out leave as a free agent after next season. Go lakers. Out that way that we can get them. And if they went ahead and son Kyrie or somebody else like that. They could they could make Davis Nelson. You got LeBron Davis. Lebron Jimmy Butler, whoever it is anti Davis. Now, all of a sudden we're talking about the Lakers and the whole different of fear right now. Again, now on paper that looks like that would sound like a really good team. But it seems like there would be a really big power struggle if they had Vogel with LeBron James kyri, some of the other players you just mentioned how would they avoid that blowing up in their face? Well, it is a good question because you know, Frank Vogel is not he's not Tyron Louise, not somebody that knows these guys. And clearly he was not the first choice. So he goes into it from a position of weakness. That's for sure he's got a three year contract with Massey's number of years. Lebron has so they were not interested clearly making a big time investment coach for long-haul while he side your contracts. So he would have to deal with that. But I would think LeBron with care of a lot of that stuff. A lot of that power struggle within the team on the players team. Who would be the number two guy who would be the top guy alongside. Lebron? Would it be would be Davis? Lebron with after figure that out that wouldn't be for the coach. Lebron figuring it out most of the time he figured that out because he needs to he wants to win a championship enough to everybody on the same page. So I think that part of it. It's it's a great way of looking at it. But but that's the one good thing. Lebron what bring you know while apart? He'd be people. Look you come here, and I'll make sure this team work and the only worry about the coach you'll need to worry about rob point or anything else. I can make this work and credible could say I think most players would believe he could make a work in. How does that hiring process? Go obviously, Jason Kidd involved in they have to LeBron involved. I mean, they just I don't think they call up and say, guess what his coaches how does that train?

"Taking the seas. Kyrie's had forty point outings in three bounceback winds after losses. We'll move on one more thing. One more thing from today. Bill plastic hold on your but coaching moves Monty Williams, the Phoenix Suns and the Lakers would rewards. Brad turned reports in talks with Tyron Lou proceeding towards offers. How would wrote it trying to get a deal done is the language Turner us fill that want to ask you about the Suns here. But who am I getting you're only going to talk about the Lakers? Anyway, go ahead. Please. Yeah. The world's look at this like oh money Williams, pick the Suns, Lakers blue. Now, they're forced to get Lou. No. The Lakers were always in on. Lou Lou is going to be there next coach he's the one they're in is that a good choice or not when a perfect world, probably not. But in this LeBron's world, they gotta lean in on him. They have in for two more years. They got to do what he wants to kinda stuck. They made a deal with this. That's why Tyler is always been their coach they interviewed Mani, and they wanted to maybe just just expand their horizons a little bit on the interview process, but he was never going to be there guy. Tyler was already. What do you laugh at has not like sides Plachy overall? But what do you know? I'm not laughing Bill. I just thought. Well, magic retired. He he resigned as head of it. So LeBron stick it over just like he did in Cleveland. So who's going to be as coach the guy wanted in Cleveland? Of course, that's the way it's going to go down money Williams. I think may right decision. He doesn't want to be that mess with the Lakers with LeBron was to be at a place where you can develop a playoff team as he did when he was a head coach before. So you could say they never were interested. They talk. Him twice Bill. So they must have had some reason for doing that. And now he's going to take team that's nineteen and sixty three that young and developing, and you know, it can't go down. It's going to go up and feed what you would take the sun's job over the Lakers job. Now. All your crazy. Would would you would. Okay. It's really sad. The mess that is the Los Angeles Lakers and LeBron James versus the mess that is Robert sober. And the Phoenix sons. Of course, you're taking the garage aims and the Lakers and that scenario so best of luck the Monty Williams. Good luck. Not a lot of coaches do well over there. But I just want to say this about tyrod everybody talks about oh, this is just LeBron's puppet. Yadda, yadda, Tyron Lewis one heck of a coach Brad Stevens. Go ask us former players. And clearly he deserves another chance after what happened to him in Cleveland and that whole LeBron leaving and that team turning into a disaster. He's going to do very well having Blackstone. I don't think it's a new surprise terror. Lou is going to go to the Lakers with Braun. They're also think it's good news for Monte to get another shot. Remember when he was first hired as head coach in this league. He was the youngest head coach at the time. It was rough going for him after a while. And now he's getting the chance to come back. His kids coaching pedigree is fantastic. And you know, this will be a tough start..

"Let's talk to Jason rally. He's the sons president and CEO Jason. Thanks for joining us today. Thanks for having me. So if if the team doesn't get this deal from the city, are you willing to move the team out of Arizona? So I wanted to spell a couple of things I said there was that this could become a fight or get ugly. The reality is this. This has been an ongoing partnership and discussion with the city of Phoenix for twenty six years. The discussions have been going on for about the last three years and have not done. And I think you could talk to the people over the city, and they would very much agree with us to characterize it as a dispute or a conflict is absolutely inaccurate. We have been strong partners at the city of Phoenix. They've essentially been our landlord tenant and we've operated that building on their behalf for the last twenty six years to the benefit of both of both the community the city, and certainly organization, and this this continued discussion about a renovation is nothing more than following through on what our existing agreements provides for listing agreement provides that in in. In July of two thousand nineteen. There was an arbitration process which determines that the buildings obsolete. If the buildings determine ops to be obsolete. Then the sons are able to vacate the building in July of two thousand twenty two. All right. So we along with the city of Phoenix have recognized the building needs a significant amount of work. And so we've been discussing with them. What is the best approach in the best way to move forward to continue to make sure the city of Phoenix House? They won't class in it. All right. Jason rally the sons president and CEO is joining us. But you didn't answer my question. I hear you if the if the team doesn't get this deal from the city, are you willing to move the team out of Arizona. I'm not going to speculate on that one bit because we're focused right now. What would you have said again, and again, and again is that our our auction ABMC is the continue operate the building. And have the Phoenix Suns continued to be the professional sports team the team in this market and continued operates building on behalf of the city of Phoenix. So what would happen in the future? If if there are no renovations to the building. Yup. Look if if if we get to two thousand if we get the two thousand nineteen and go through obsolescence, and there is not any money committed to the building which is not our obligation to the community money at the building. Which which I think is important for people to recognize our existing deal is that when we go retracing the city can decide to commit dollars to make it not obsolete or decide not to and that's entirely decision. What we were willing to do and continue to be willing to do. Is before that even happens come to an agreement where we put in dollars that we're not obligated to. And then also have the city make a contribution. So that we can continue this partnership, which has generated significant significant tax dollars and direct benefit to the city of Phoenix not to mention providing the type of high level amenities that any wolf class city would like to have Jason rallies. The son sons president and CEO he joins us talking about the delay. The Phoenix city council has voted to delay a deal that would shell out one hundred and fifty million dollars to renovate talking stick resort arena. I I know that most of this would be from hotel rental car taxes, people from out of town that kind of thing, but it just sounds do you understand how it sounds kind of odd that one hundred and fifty million by the taxpayer in eighty million by the owner, you see how that inversion would sound odd to say a guy making fifty grand saying, well, wait a minute. Why can't a billionaire put up most of the? Money, and we can put some of the money is it really one hundred and fifty versus eighty or do you think there's some middle ground there? Well, let me let me give you some context as well. So today from the beginning of the inception of the deal. The Phoenix Suns have put in about one hundred and fifty million into construction and capital improvements into the building over that period of time over that twenty six year period, the city is put in about seventy nine or eighty million. So if you actually take what we have put into date, and what the city would be looking to commit now going forward if they accept the deal with is on the table. You actually have a essentially a fifty fifty deal. Plus, we are agreeing to extend the term of the deal beyond what its current term is right now the term of the deal actually goes through two thousand thirty two, but we can get out ten years early. If it's obsolete. There's going to be very little argument that the buildings obsolete because. When we start walking people through it. And you see the leaks that happen every day that the the? Elevators that stop working every day. The the the the beer that is spilling into our out of out of the out of our our our keg room into the lower levels. The building needs to be updated enough. Yeah, that's the functional real. And I and I hear you on that. I get that. Is there any room for some kind of compromise or you hard and fast? We want one hundred and fifty million from taxpayers, and we'll put up eighty is that a hard and fast nonnegotiable so here. We have been we have negotiated this deal already with the city of Phoenix. And we believe it is a fair and equitable deal. And here's why when. If we were not in this building the city is going to have to make a decision if they wanna make those funds anyway, so setting the sons aside. This building needs to have the work done. No matter who occupies it. Let's pretend the sun never even existed this buildings twenty six years old if you want to continue to have concerts and the other two hundred community events that happen the building if you wanna have a world class townhall if you will. Dollars has to be expended. And what the city is looking to put in and we've been very clear about this. The city is covering the infrastructure pieces. They're covering the plumbing, the electrical the the security systems, the vertical circulation, the escalators while of the concourses for safety all of those components, or what the city is is has agreed or at least under the term sheet has agreed that they would cover. We are covering the other components that would be more fan facing fan amenity clubs spaces bars. Things of that nature. We are covering those costs which again, if you look at any show me a landlord tenant situation where essentially over the life of the entire deal. The tenant has paid fifty percent of the cost of the building. And that's not even county operational costs. We cover a hundred percent of the operational costs every year. You don't have to look very far to find public private deals like this where the city is paying the operator five or six million bucks to operate the building we actually pay the city rent and then pay the operating costs. So the deal the deal has to be looked at in this in its totality. And I will tell you this the we're not we're not we're not one bit concerned about the delays. A matter of fact, this gives us more of an opportunity to educate the public and the tax payers, which they deserve to understand how this deal actually works and understand the benefit that this arena against the sun decide that this arena provides to the community. "And is threatening to move the team to either Seattle or Las Vegas, if the city vox if you were Phoenix. Would you pony up the two hundred thirty million dollars to renovate the sun's arena shake? You know, the Phoenix Suns are there kind of historic not historical. But they're they're kind of a landmark a little bit in the NBA. It would be sad to see them leave. But I'm kind of really want Seattle to have a team again, Seattle sons would not work though, because it's nothing, but rain there, but Las Vegas sons would work. Yeah. Las vegas. Sons would definitely work. It's hot it makes it does make some sense. They gotta leave go ahead. Well, if they move back to Seattle, they're the Sooners Sonics. Yeah. That'd be cool. But here's the thing though. Like Seattle desperately wants a team. Yep. Would you rather? Wait, if it means like four or five ten whatever years, it might be very decent owner. Or would you rather have Robert server? That's the thing. Like, you get terrible. When generally speaking when teams move, it's because they have bad ownership. Right. Generally, speaking, not only spur generally or they just don't have public funding for a stadium. Right. And it's like, the even Milwaukee Milwaukee is most recent city to pony up for renovations to a publicly funded NBA arena. I just don't believe that any city should ever use public funds to build an arena. These guys are billionaires, and they should spend their money. Do it. The STAN Kroenke way. Just write a check for the whole day. And now, it's yours. You can negotiate better terms of our like five years ago. I think like the state of Arizona sold off their capitol building. There's no money. I'm not making that up. Sell their capitol building you want. They tried to buy back, and it's like cost like one hundred million to get whatever it is. Like, you can't spend money on this stuff anymore. He's a bad deal for cities right has been shown over and over and over again to invest in these things right at the same time. The Suns are a landmark they are. They are a cultural landmark for the city the city of Phoenix with suffer with the sons left virtually zero. But then they will have lost their they're losing their hockey team. They will coyotes. Hockey, the coyotes Anita I I heard somewhere there were leaving probably things over there. No Seattle's get an expansion team. I don't know. But like what he goes. That's why they're not the why they lose the team because it's a hockey team, Arizona. Yeah. Yeah. But look at the one in in Las Vegas is is killing it. But they didn't have any stuff Golden Knights, by the way, don't quote me on don't think the coyotes are swapped divisions as NHL. Yeah. That doesn't mean they're moving it doesn't mean. They're move. Yeah. They're not moving moving division. I just thought I I'd von hit that breaking news alerts. "So very often and can focus on scoring with that backdrop Marquel. False just does not fit. Now. See like the other thing. The Phoenix Suns may be doing. And this is coming from executives and personnel of other teams. Are they trying to help the Lakers? Get better it feels like it James Joe's, LeBron cool. We know because. Because. Chandler allegedly. We're here what may happen with Trevor Reza, and he's already sitting out games as a healthy scratch. A reason would be a perfect fit for this Lakers team. He would be a perfect fit. It'd be perfectly for a lot of teams. He would I would love to see him on the Laker course you in the national media. We won't every LA. Oh, yeah. Of course, we do. And I don't wanna see on the clippers. I want to come to the Lakers play. Lebron? I wanted to be a smokescreen. That's what I want. What about him going somewhere else in the east coast? I'm good. It's Jalen rose helps manager Joe men eclectic personnel. He says that he is reading understanding millennials for dummies. So he can better understand his players. Jalen rose. Do you understand millennials? I hope so and this is really intelligent for him to do because it highlights the fact that not only is he passionate about his profession and wanted to be the best skipper. He can be. He's going to take time and energy to learn where they come from what ends up happening is as each generation passes. We all do this. We feel like the one behind us has easier. Of course, we feel work is home are harangue. Yeah. It's it's always the same. It's always saying in music and movies, and people is all the same. So for him to take this step. I like this. But he did something that I would not have done as a chess move the things that. I do personally for improvement for competitive for competitive nature. I don't share with the public. That's what I'm saying. That's the one thing that bothers me about this. It seems like he might you know, what I say I read a lot of boats, but only read the first ten pages this what this feels like cliff notes. Yeah. This this feels like we'll LeBron's that. He watched the godfather every night, but couldn't recite anything. Yeah. Exactly. He's carrying the book around like. This seems like a little bit four show. And also I'm gonna I'm gonna confess something of read a couple of those four dummies books and not understood. Magic millennials for dummies for real dummies. If I was going to read that I don't understand. But I'm fine with that. And you want them not going to do Jalen rose. What I'm not going to do. I'm not going to do like old millennials have it so easy. It's so hard to communicate with them. They're so obsessed with social media in their phones. They don't know how to work hard. They don't understand the world. I cannot stand that like well hold on. No, no. Well, some of that is true. No, Jalen, it's on some of that true. So there are some young people that aren't being paid to do. So the spend way too much time energy on social media. That's a craft improving academics, that's moving that, whatever they're passionate. That's not. That's no different than any other generation. It's no different than any generator to start a new rule competition. Got a new rule. I wish for example on there was a limit to what you can post. How many and a limit to what you can like imagine. If you only get certain amount of likes today. Then you had to be selective about actually what you did for. You can just do it. Unlimited to me, it has no merit at that point. What are your thoughts? I like that a lot, and our friend and colleague Kevin Wilde's came up with this once a week super like you could drop a super light on somebody once a week. I love that idea. "Hundred fifty for why do you think that is? Why would the Phoenix Suns the potential leader in the because all things have to be played and sometimes to keep doing what you're doing, you're gonna keep getting with you. And four player like Leonard, it's a lot different. Then a veteran player like myself, these all time greats don't wanna bounce from team to team shack regrets the fact that he played for six seventeen, and he was reading chasing late in his career. That's why he came out and knowledge that I did it. I didn't like the fact that I, as I look back that I did it and I'm hoping that LeBron James doesn't do it. So if you have the number one pick and you have Devon Booker, how swing for the fences, if San Antonio, willing to listen, which by the way, if I'm the Spurs I don't drink wine the west at all. That's that even sound too close to LA. So I'm not going to tell you. But that's just me. That's how it will go down for a few. This has been reported on the Spurs would never trade coined the Western Conference, but let me just explain it like this. They're trading coli in the Western Conference to a non contending team for one season, and then coed goes wherever he wants. So it's not like they're still five years left on his contract, and he's gonna be in the west for four more years. He's going to be a free agent would that that sounds cut and dry and it could be, but there's a lot more layers to it. Like if he gets traded this off season, as we are discussing, it may happen. He's gonna lose his supermax. So that's gonna cost thirty million dollars just to get traded to some. But if you are the Spurs, it doesn't seem like such a threat to trade into a team. Like Phoenix who basically in the Phoenix has a year to audition them into put on a show and try to keep him to then sign a long term deal. That's trading Kawada fierce doesn't threaten the spur. Did you say Kawai to Phoenix. Well, that's that's too close to LA. I'm not doing that deal just because he might. LA. Trying. Ticking July, Kobe Bryant or something close. We're not doing close, maybe the grizzlies amid Memphis. Then maybe that makes a little more sense. Carris. We're not done. We're not done. Is not going down that way. I would deem that this I feel the way I feel and the way they've been able to set up a championship level organizations is meticulously making moves trafficking, will develop in their players and not helping other teams in their conference form super teams because of Whitlow that to happen that we might not win a championship for really long time. So it's not just only about trading Coa is we're, I'm trading him to..

"The first time in thirty nine years that the nba final four will go to full game seven the last time that happened according to darren the seattle supersonics on the phoenix suns and the san antonio spurs win the eastern conference then taking on the washington bullets were now the wizards think about that the last time the nba conference finals both to a full seven games you have a team that is now the oklahoma city thunder in seattle playing phoenix the san antonio spurs were in the eastern conference playing the washington bullets now the wizards they got the guy that right geographically by haven't san antonio the western thinking what san antonio east why just because that's silly put them in the west that's the last time the conference finals both in with the full seven games now if you're golden state here's what i want to find out about this basketball team how much of a front runner are you not now i'll give golden say credit for this they went eight three one whole not long ago to oklahoma city and they found the way to come back and win that series and then kevin durant after that said yeah i'm tired of that russell westbrook i'm gonna go there and play with these guys golden state has been a team that has gotten out topped the last two fourth quarters of this series which i didn't think i would see not saying that houston was not capable of it i just didn't think they were going to be able to do that the golden state or maybe we can say gold they did it themselves but no excuses when houston had to have it on defense they were better than golden state when houston had to make effort place when they had to make tough place when they make tough shot to get to the free throw line they did that better than golden state i know steve kerr not saying know one well but the kind of coach that he is i'm sure he showed that tape time and time again saying guys we're better than this.
