"Way. Never saw that. So we went. We never saw the deputies in our defence that they probably wouldn't have seen it either that he had it totally talked under there. But all of this from the training staff at the Sheriff's department and our instructors was to get us to feel that stress the pounding heart how quickly it unfolds. How the initial impression of what happened isn't always the end result of it. To give us that that glimpse into what it's like to be a deputy, Alex. Thank you very much. And how stressed out were you, you know? And Steve Gregory and I have done this with Phoenix police before something somewhat similar, and with fed a federal agencies, you never get used to it. But at least you kind of start Tio learn some of the tricks of for them not to yell it through the best. Has it changed the way you approach covering the stories? You know, Absolutely And and I have said this a very openly to a lot of reporters. That I think it is important that they go through a class like this, because it does make you think when you initially see that that body worn camera footage or other video that sound thereof, or you hear the accounts from family members or protesters of wait a second. You know the fact that he dropped a gun and was bending down to pick it up. Is he really unarmed? He was that close to grabbing it and maybe taking your life. That there are different aspects that you gotta look at that It may not be the way it's initially presented. Thank you very much, Alex. Appreciate it. You got it. Thanks, guys. Alex Stone. "Reverend Jared Mop and led protests and marches after Phoenix police shot and killed an unarmed man. Well, tonight he gets a chance to experience the split second decisions that police have to make when encountering a suspect. And our Troy Hayden was right along with him tonight getting the training as well. This must've been eye opening. It was a really interesting experience. You know, we've all watched those protests all over the country after police officers were accused of shooting people who aren't armed. What would happen if one of those protesters fell orders like toe, wear a badge and then be put in a life or death situation himself. Someone. You put your whole whole strong inside your jury mop in gets his weapon.

"Station, KTAR news. Arizona's news station. KTAR news on ninety two three FM fruit, Saint James and Pamela Hughes. The Phoenix police department is investigating as the result of a new cell phone video that came out of them, interacting with a couple with two small children, interacting. I'm trying to be just give the facts. Okay. How they interacted with them is the problem is the reason behind the investigation. Okay. All right. Make sure on the same page buddy. But they did interact interaction that took place definitely was interaction. And it is calling into question. Why the officers reacted the way they did you have to back up and say, there was an initial report of a shoplifting. Call from like a dollar store where a child had apparently shoplifted stolen a dull. Okay. So we have a Dolly. Was apparently stolen and there's a description of child K and the police are getting involved. Right off the bat. You're like, okay. Yeah. The police pull this vehicle over which they say fits the description of the vehicle in the shoplifting incident and. Exactly what transpires we're not sure the, the, the man is taken out of the vehicle. He was driving, and the video picks up with him lying face down on the ground, by the way, it's one hundred some odd degrees outside lying face down on the ground handcuff. Now, when you say the video, this is not a body camera video, this is video from a look see Lou somebody nearby. About getting looking down onto this is the case nowadays. You've got police. You've got some suspects people pull out their cell phones. And they start recording the cell phone video begins with a man on the pavement hands behind his back being handcuffed, by Phoenix police officer seconds later. He's yanked off the ground and then pushed up against the squad car his feet about shoulder width apart. That's when the office aggressively sweeps his leg, then yells. Okay. So the officer is yelling some, you know. A bleep do some of that out. And when we say, sweep the leg. You know, don't don't think of like karate kid, sweep the leg. No. This is a kind of a kick in the foot out a little bit further. So your stance is wider. And it does appear as though the guy that has pushed up against the police SUV wobbles a bit, maybe took a knee and then got back up. Right. It was aggressive aggressive. See anything in this suspect who's handcuffed also. I don't see him. Combative know what you've seen before. Sure. I don't understand why the officer is yelling the way he is. But again, I'm not there. And when I say, aggressive, I, maybe that is even too much of a term, it seems a bit too much. But in my in my civilian, I is it doesn't seem agreed. Yes. Okay. Not just me because when we had sergeant Darren Birch former a former sergeant Phoenix police department took a look at the video, and he caught up with Arizona's morning news. Heated say this. I think what's of concern is when he. Doing this lakes with that is taught in order to get someone against the, the car, you don't want them to somehow push up off you so you separate their legs. Okay. So what else was going on? Why would that leg sweep needed? Why is he officer? So agitate oak. Yes. And then but wait, there's more after we see the sweeping of the leg up against the police SUV. You have another officer who is now approaching the SUV that they just pulled the suspect out of right, right? With his gun drawn. Yes..

"Is under the floor looking up at her under the she could see him through the floorboards. And this man who was running that business was sex trafficking girls. So this has become her thing. She's trying to stop it. And what she told us on the air on Monday is that she went in was at sky harbor last Friday. She was coming home from a trip. She saw something that looked not right to her a woman a child a toddler, and she said, I. I think somebody's trying to traffic that child. She went. There's what she told us. She went and got the police they came over. And in fact, that was what was happening. We are. Now finding out from the Phoenix police. This is not what happened. We've got Cindy McCain's and the Phoenix police department so and these two are not congruent, they're not. So what the Phoenix pedia released a statement that said on January thirtieth which is different than February first. When Cindy McCain said, I was returning to Phoenix on a Friday January thirtieth this a Wednesday. She said it was a Friday two days later at approximately one twenty six PM Phoenix PD officers assigned to sky harbor conducted a check welfare on a child at the request of MRs Cindy McCain. So that did happen during the check welfare officers determined. There was no evidence of criminal conduct or child endangered. That is not what sending McCain told, correct. Let's play with Cindy, McCain told us just a few days ago with us here. KTAR MAC and Gaydos, take a listen, everyone can make a difference on this. Issue. Mccain institute dot org has a website dealing with Justice. How to recognize the signs of trafficking, and what to do about it? I stole the adage from homeland security if you see something say something and that very thing happened to me in Phoenix airport. Last Friday, I came in from a trip identifying I bought it. It looked I it was a woman of the different SSD than the child this little toddler. She had something didn't click with me. I you I tell people trust your gut. I went over to the police, and I told him what I thought that they went over and questioned by God, she was trapped you next year. A toddler. Yeah. Time. She was waiting for the guy who bought the child off an air. Wow. Yeah. You can't make a difference. Everyone can make a difference on this is going on not just in big venues, but he's in your own neighborhood. Okay. So that was our interview with Cindy McCain on Monday by God. She was trafficking that child is what Cindy McCain said. Yeah. And she also knew that there was a man waiting for the child at the airport. All right now. What again, let's repeat would Phoenix PD is saying is that on January thirtieth not a Friday, but a Wednesday. They did get a call for a check welfare on a child at the request of MRs Cindy McCain during the check welfare, according to Phoenix PD officers determined. There was no evidence of criminal conduct or child endangerment. Which begs the question, what is Cindy McCain talking about in her story? We've reached out to Sydney McCain. We'll see if we can get a statement or bring her on the air. All I can do is speculate. That's all we had somebody's wrong. Could the Phoenix police department? Get this wrong. Maybe did send him McCain. Get this wrong. Maybe here's the thing though. Cindy, McCain coming on a radio show and telling it on truth doesn't make any sense to me that doesn't make sense. No. I mean, you either see you either see a kid getting trafficked or you don't see a kid getting traffic. Now. She said I saw something that didn't look right to me. And I and I said something that ain't that is true. That is true that police did go over and look maybe again, maybe Cindy McCain left the airport thinking. I there was something wrong. And maybe she she thought the kid was getting trafficking. She assumed but let's pull back the curtain to let's pull back the curtain a little bit. Okay. Because we were in shock. We did not expect that story to come out. We had no prior knowledge. She no-one tipped us off that she was going to tell that story on the show at the show is we called her to talk about sex trafficking at the Super Bowl right at the end of the interview. She's the one that brought up the sky harbor store. Right. So at the end of the show. A couple people in the newsroom started to say. How did she know? There was a man waiting. How would she have known? What happened to the CIA? And I said great question. I don't know. We were we were a, unfortunately, we ran out of time. We had to go take a break. We couldn't continue the interview and she had to go. We couldn't keep her on a second segment. So we couldn't ask any follow up questions of. Because usually this is the way it goes down. You see something you say something you're then removed from the situation. You don't get to stick around. And it's not an episode cops. Okay. It's not it's not what is that live cops on TV whenever the new show is you don't get to see what happens and live PD and who gets arrested, and where you don't get to know any of this. She. No, there's no nice bow that you title up on correct? But she seemed to have the information. So that that that some doubt in people's minds of is where is the veracity in the store? Well, this local attention. Absolutely. This got national attention as it should. It were true got international attention. Right. So this story has been all over the world. They got that the person who has taken her life and dedicated it to Uman trafficking, actually, stop somebody from being traffic in an airport. Eight is the perfect story. It's a big deal. Did she get carried away? Or is she telling the truth, and that is a great. That is great question. I don't know. Well, again, this is why I say, it's a great story. If that somebody says, and I personally stopped a child a toddler from being trafficked, boy, doesn't that get you. Attention boy, doesn't that get you people to get to go to your website doesn't promote awareness. Doesn't it doesn't. That's not her. That's not what she would is totally grew in to Cindy McCain is so where's the truth? I don't know. That's the dumbfounded founding. Don't know we don't know you can go and check this story out of KTAR dot com. And we're just trying to figure out exactly what happened because when someone of the stature of sending McCain comes on your radio show to talk about sex trafficking. And then at the end of the interview says, I stopped someone at sky harbor that was sex trafficking or was at least trafficking. And you know, I can't I can't get the the verbiage out of my head by God. She was trafficking that child is what Cindy McCain set. Yeah. I mean, we're not sending became for a long time. When Cindy McCain says, something you take it is truth is no reason to lie. Oh, there's there's no reason to fabricate a story. No. When you have you and your husband have dedicated your life to service. I do I get it. It's not it's not like interviewing a politician, whether they'll they'll lie straight to your face an agenda, of course, they do. And sometimes they'll tell you the truth. But then other times they're gonna lie. I mean. Sending McCain does have a reason to lie Schnapp politicians, married, a politician. Correct issues with them for a long time. But he was a straight shooter latest sharing politician. I understand that. But still every politician doesn't tell the truth. She's not a politician. Correct. She is now in her. Life's work now is to stop children from from being traffic. And if she saw something at sky harbor, which she did. And the police say she did has an end to the story where the police say are into the story is different than Cindy McCain's. All right. I just got this in my ear. Phoenix police has just contacted us. Again, they are insisting it was January thirtieth Wednesday. Fair was not a Friday Phoenix police are saying that they got a call for a check welfare on a child at the request of MRs Cindy McCain during the check welfare officers determined. There was no evidence of criminal conduct or child. Endangerment. Did Cindy McCain fly out of sky harbor on Thursday return on Friday? And this this was something different. I don't think she got the date wrong or this or this happened on a different day. Don't know. But Phoenix PD just called KTAR newsroom back and they're adamant the call came in on a Wednesday. Cindy McCain is that a is that a big deal? Incongruence? I know, but she could have just said was last week. What was it Thursday? She could have been flying overseas. You could add jet lag. I don't know did it happen or not see. That's what I wanna know things. Don't add up like the day the situation. How does she have so many details, it just puts more shade on the story that I don't know what to believe now and it and it's? I I hate to say this. But if it were a female politician, she's not a politician. Correct. If we're a female politician, I would take it with a grain of salt and go, that's a politician. This isn't this is Cindy McCain. So I don't know what to believe listen, we're going to the news department. Your KTAR is on it. And we'll try and figure out what is what's going on? Because it's weird. I took it as it happened. And I left the show on Monday saying that it's unbelievable. And there's no there's no reason to doubt. No, there's no reason to doubt Cindy McCain. So we'll we'll try and figure it out. Absolutely. All right. We're we are actually in the middle. We're we're in a mess of the big four. We didn't take. This was big story one. We changed on the fly. All right. Well, we've got big story two three and four to go. We can tell you big story to we'll tell you why. There was no need for Trump to give the state of the state last night. "I want wanna I want to be really really careful here because I don't want to appear to be attacking or arguing with a father who lost his son. But there are some things that this man said yesterday that I think he's being misled his name is Roland Harris. He held a press conference along with the Reverend Jared mop in front of Phoenix police headquarters yesterday, his son Jacob Harris was nineteen years old was shot by Phoenix police earlier this month after they say they were following him. Saw him in a and some other men enter a what a burger restaurant, rob the what a burger and then pulled over the car later on. They say it looked like he was going for a gun when he was shot. Now. Now, this father role in Harris and Jared mop in both say that they believe he was shot in the. Back. Police have not specified yet where he was shot. But. First off. I love a lot of what this role in Harris's saying, and I I I I can't imagine this guy's pain because we need to we need to acknowledge that some of the greatest people in the world ended up having terrible people for children and it works. The other way around to like, you could be terrible parents, and somehow or another the kids turn out to be great people. So I don't blame this role in Harris for how a son turned out of his son really truly was taking part in a in a robbery at a what a burger pullover light police, maybe it appeared he was going for a gun, and there wasn't one one. But the officers shot him, and he says he doesn't want any money. He doesn't want any money from the city doesn't want any money from the state. He says, I just want Justice for my son. But here's where I think things go wrong for Roland Harris who lost his nineteen year old son in a shooting with Phoenix police. He says. That we need to look at an officer involved shooting in Peoria that happened earlier this month where suspect who was armed came away with minor injuries. He says the parents need to call that officer. And thank that officer took a second to take a breath and take aim and shoot that suspect in the shoulder. And he said that officers need to learn how to handle armed suspects without killing them. Boy, I, you know, it's just. I wish somebody would have taken him aside and said, you know, what I'm gonna blame Jared mop on this one who stood by his side and said, you know, what maybe you shouldn't say that. Because let's be honest. It's a split second. When an officer decides to fire his weapon, and you are stopping to shooting to stop the threat. That's right. You cannot shooting to wound. You're not no no you are going for center mass. That's the biggest target, and you are shooting to stop the threat absolutely say, he should take a second to take a breath and take aim and shoot the suspect in the shoulder. It just it shows me dead by then there's there's an awareness of of of how these things unfold because they unfold like that like that. And it's so unfortunate. It's so unfortunate. And here's. This is going to continue to go on by the way, Jacob harasses casket apparently is going to be part of a March on MLK day as well. So they're going to be carrying around his dead son's body on on Monday. It is six eighteen now at KTAR, and it's time for our Rosie on the house helpful tip of the week. Do you find yourself sneezing or coughing, and you're not running a fever or have the flu? When was the last time, you changed your home air filters? This is Gary d with your tip of the week from Rosie on the house now, we've been hammering this important task for years. And yet we forget I do too but replacing air filters on a regular basis. "Convenience store. This is near thirty sixth street and Thomas officers caught up with a suspect down the road. And that's where they say that he pulled out some kind of a metal object. He starts swinging at officers actually hitting one of the police officers another officer, then shot the suspect and that suspect died at the hospital. All right. So this is the forty third police officer involved shooting with the Phoenix police department, and I feel like every day when this when we talk about this. It doesn't happen every day. Don't get me wrong. But forty-three there's certainly a lot. I feel that when an incident like this happens we have to come on the air and talk about the actual shooting just to show you that the police did the right thing, and they're not just waving their guns around trying to kill people because that's what some people who aren't very bright, by the way. That's what some people think that the Phoenix police department. Oh, they're crazy. Oh, they're way too tough. No, they're not doing a good job. And by the way, this story. You've got a guy who is trying to hurt a police officer. He's brawling with them. There was a second officer starts brawling with that guy. Hey, they tried to get him to stop. He didn't what are you gonna do? What do you do? You. Do exactly what the police did. Again. What are you supposed to do in that situation? Well, the cop is trying to get you to comply you keep attacking the officer that that's a total game changer right there. Right. The other day we were talking about the Phoenix police department. How they killed a man I think it was the forty second. Now, we have the forty third. Well that man was near the highway. He had a gun. He had already shot a couple of bullets either in the air or towards traffic. There were businesses that were still open at that time of night people walking by and he had a gun, and he wouldn't put it down. And he's waving it around and the police shot and killed him. And that's the right thing to do why. Because if you're in the car with your kid on that highway, and the police don't shoot and kill that guy. That guy can turn around and shoot a bullet right into the kitchen the head. What if this guy kills an innocent victim? That's just trying to drive home. We would be railing the cops of why didn't you take him out of the deal? Right. So we'll we'll always give you the story. Sometimes the cops are wrong. Sometimes they're wrong. They're not perfect. But now we have the forty third officer involved shooting of the year here in Phoenix. And this guy last night didn't walk away. And there's a reason he didn't walk away. Not only didn't he walk away. I started attacking right? Once you start attacking a cop. I mean it game over. I mean, I don't know what else you do. So that is let's see out of forty three officer involved shootings of the year. We've got another couple of weeks. Paul Penzone Maricopa County sheriff we're told us the other day. Hey who knows next year? They might have ten and not forty-three. You just never know. And I thought that was interesting. You're listening to the big four at four. We bring you four big blockbuster stories. We still have big story three and four to go. All right. Ashley flood is in for Becky Lynn today on Arizona's news station..

"KTAR indepth. I heard a Trump supporter. The other day say they should remove duck from the prefix lame duck before. A bitter flakes name. All right. We'll talk more about what Jeff flake is up to a little later. But I I wanted to talk right now about what some folks were up to yesterday morning, if you're listening around seven forty or so here on Arizona's morning news, you heard detoured and say this southbound state route fifty one at Coulter somebody felt it was a good idea to hang up a protest sign here. That's talking about the Phoenix police violence, or whatever it is whatever the case is how about we don't hang signs over top of the freeways that can distract drivers. That can lead that wrecks that can cause injuries possibly even death. Why so Detroit, and I don't think detour Dan really cared. What was on the banner? I mean, maybe he did. But he was concerned about driver safety. That's that's the biggest concern. But what this was all about was a group called put Aaron action and their leader vide- Hernandez is with Bruce St James and Pamela Hughes yesterday talking about what she'd like to see happen to reduce. Use the number of police involved shootings in Phoenix. And I gotta tell ya. They could not have worst timing. They just could not have worse timing on this. Yes, there have been forty officer involved shootings in Phoenix this year. Maybe she's right. Maybe we are leading the nation. But man, terrible timing. Now, keep in mind that she said during your interview with Bruce and panel that action needs to be taken not just studied like Phoenix has undertaken that studied by the way was done at the behest of Phoenix police chief, Jerry Williams. What is a remedy to the problem that you see definitely looking at how this is happening in how we're letting this happen. Okay. So that's a study that she's talking about there after she criticized. The fact that Phoenix is studying and not taking action and we continue bitterly. There's a lack of transparency within this police department, right? That has been sued just even to access records of these situations that. These cases, I agree with her you want nothing, but but complete transparency you do and if the Phoenix police department has not been transparent on some questionable shootings, then they should be compelled to be absolutely transparent. But do you really think it's the best idea to unfurl a banner? Saying stop Phoenix police violence the day after they took down. Timothy Odell Leon who was armed with a handgun not complying with commands when three Phoenix police officers opened fire on him after a violent car chase after he was involved. They believe in five armed robberies in five days, including three carjackings in which he fired a handgun in each one of them and hurt one of the people. Right, right. You actually struck a victim shootings. Oh. You just get it. Right. Okay. I understand. I don't want. I don't want a ton of police shootings. Either anybody does. And I don't think the cops do to be honest with you. Yeah. Okay. Sure. There's a couple of adrenaline fuelled idiots, you know, that might have a badge and a gun out there. But for the majority of cops never want to be involved in a shooting if they can avoid it Glendale police, by the way had this to say because this chase ended in Glendale. It was extremely imperative that officers were able to encounter him and ensure that he didn't victimize another person within this valley, but just simply based on the timing of their unfurling of the banner, I'm led to believe that put Aaron action thinks he was the victim. It's five eighteen now KTAR..

"Report says that Twenty-eight Phoenix police at a twenty Phoenix police. Shootings to use tasers Phoenix police officer deployed their tasers and just seven percent of cases. That involve officer gunfire in the first six months. Of, two thousand eighteen now we've talked about how violence against the police has gone up and specifically about. The Phoenix police department is this number? Too low to high why is it only? To tasers versus twenty. Eight Phoenix police shootings let's. Talk to Darren Birch now he's got thirty years law enforcement many with the Phoenix PD retired Phoenix police sergeant and author of, the new book twisted but true about his. Life, and law enforcement Darren is this number high? Or low to you twenty eight to No I think it? Sounds about right What's more important is looking at individual cases to. See if that was, appropriate or not that type of weapon a tasers. A very specialized, tool that has limitations so you wouldn't you say in a liberal type exchange for somebody with a gun or somebody charging you with a knife because of the distance that the taser. Propels probes is a limited distance appointee so if a single obstacle is, out there with a with. Justice, teaser he's gonna end up dead yeah that's kind of, what I thought if a man is let's say that you gotta suspect who's. Scott a knife and I'm the cop I'm. Not pulling my taser opponent my. Firearm that could cut. Right through. Me that's a deadly weapon. I'm not I'm not screwing around here I'm not going to try and, taste you if you've got a knife especially if you have a gun while. I'm, not even looking at my teaser Yeah there are scenarios but. They're very very unique where you have somebody with a night they're threatening but they're not charging and you may have multiple authors that's the perfect plan that you could then deployed peyser officers lives at. Risk because they have their service weapon out so there are those scenarios, but again the scenario would. Dictate, whether officer would would be able to have a watch, free appointing a taser Darren birches joining us and I would think that do. You usually use a taser if someone is. Resisting arrest like if one officer. Has the guy kinda. Down and. He's struggling and he's moving. And he doesn't wanna be arrested is that isn't that when are you, tell me if I'm wrong isn't that when most officers deploy the teacher taser Really depends. On a, particular police they all. Have their different general orders or operational procedures as it. Dictates the use of keizer However I can't say before I left, the with the Phoenix you weren't able use? Your, taser within uncooperative, combative individual but, again teaser you don't wanna use it around anybody. Who's pregnant, you don't want to use it somebody that you say. Has a health problem maybe your heart condition so there's limitations to the keizer so I don't want to over use. It but I don't want. To you, said the best thing about tasers is always having the training and no shoot shoot scenarios and when, to use a taser. Because that's the best kind of training is 'cause there's so? Many specialized scenarios we couldn't? Even lift them in a day retired Phoenix police sergeant and author Darren Birch joins us over thirty years of police experience then then Darren? And I think I know the answer to, this but you tell me then why have one Why why have a taser then if. It's used so infrequently and if. Most calls it's necessary for you to have, a firearm and I. Don't wanna take firearms away from cops but why have the taser then because, it's the perfect toll for. Perfect situations just like obser- pleasant is a you know a threshold for you know to prevent that use of force just like verbal persuasion just like your Mace just like your side handle petanque just like. The you know what they call the beanbag. These are, all tools and collectively. They provide us with a less lethal alternative which is. Good even if it's seven percent because seven percent time STAN thought, that Darren one thing I don't understand is Tasers don't they don't do the job all the time, you could nail. A guy with a taser and for one reason, or another guy still, walking I don't get that part Oh it's happened to me I had a young officer there. Was a subject that was. Threatening a woman who was speeding Prager into an apartment the officer right fully soul. Was a plate of a, barricade situation, and was ready deploys teaser it was ineffective on him I went to grab. Him and throw him on the. Ground and I got paid so it. Depends on different you know drugs in their? System and. All sorts of other factors to include their. Clothing so it's not the perfect tool it's a great tool in certain situations what does it, feel like to get taste Fun Not specifically what is not, fun lock your, body what? Happened It does it if you picture you know, being executed when putting a sometime, metal device into, a outlet Now like that Overextended. Amount, of time luckily I was able to just hold onto the guy until the cycle is off and that was able to resume the fight retired Phoenix police. Sergeant and, author, Darren Birch Darren thank you for the insight as always have. A great weekend you guys to answer. Effort all week what does it feel like? To get taste not fun and it. Shouldn't be, fun I mean there's things, should not tickle but as we pointed out sometimes, they don't work but his Darren pointed out better to have that tool in your arsenal. Shirt. And not yes, so this again we always tell you read read more. Than the headline Twenty-eight Phoenix police shootings to use tasers, they, will? Well? Well? Why why what it's not, for every situation but neither is a. Gun fire aspects these days are more combative They're carrying a weapon and. I'll say it again if I'm a cop? You got a knife you ain't gonna. Taste wrangling, and get shot right because, if you come towards me with a knife that, how did deadly weapon and guess what I'm going home you might not be but I. Am. "With MAC and Gaydos News Well if you take a look at the Phoenix police department Let me give you a couple of statistics In two thousand seventeen There were twenty. One. Officer involved shootings okay In two thousand sixteen there. Were twenty five shootings. In two thousand fifteen there were seventeen shootings we're halfway. Through this year and there are thirty one so they tied a record. The. All time high the all. Time high yeah and it will. Be broken unfortunately someone. Is going, to die this is what happens you know unfortunately there's going to be a criminal out there and there's. Going to be a. Fight in somebody's gonna? Somebody's gonna pass away why is this happening? Is this something that we should worry about because the Phoenix police did tie, the. Record for for shootings in this year right and back then that spurred. A study by ASU and calls for reform let's talk to Darren, Birch retired Phoenix police sergeant and author twisted but true. Stories, from DARREN'S own? Experience in law enforcement. Darren how, are you. I'm good yourself back pretty good pretty good. So As a former cop is a former law, enforcement agent does it bother you that they've already tied. The, all time record? And what do you. Think it, says about. Phoenix Yeah it absolutely concerns me, is becoming very violent out there very dangerous to be a police officer I, think what it saying that there's a lot of factors that played there's no doubt about it but what I'm seeing Excuse me what I'm seeing. There's this intense. Attitude of disrespect for hatred toward police ends in all facets of our society, politics these various anti police groups media social media and I, think, this barrage of I guess you could call an anti cop rhetoric is growing. Like a cancer reaches that wrong person at the wrong time and their life whether, it's mental health issues like depression or a crew. Filming oh, that ends up using it as? Kind of like fodder towards against the police and because what we're seeing. These police shooting is the act of aggression towards place whether it's. An armed, person or or a vehicle I mean what was it a year ago we saw that person that tried to run over. Three officers, come out it could be in store and that would. Even a police shooting you know obser-. Free to use other means to their spoil SEL less lethal alternatives to. Stop that person who tried, to kill them so So that's, my concern yeah I agree with you Darren I think that, I, don't think cops are trigger happy I think that criminals are more violent and. Police then have to act a little bit more aggressively to make sure they get, home to their families so my next question for. You is, if this is the case and? Criminals are more violent and they're getting shot do police need to be. Retrained in any way in this day and age with the new. Type of, criminal that's out there one that will take on a police officer instead of doing what they're told sit down don't say. Anything Yeah Yeah my gut reaction is no. Stay on. Course we have a lot of less lethal alternatives out, there which is a good. Thing I think what we need to do more of and not that we haven't been doing good job, this but is instead of fighting fire with fire is is go out there to the community and changed that radically changed that. Dialogue we're doing a good job with. That we just need to continue on that path and car ride the storm. Out hopefully this will be nominally and next, year the following, years you, know the appreciating will go.
