"Emergency session of the Phoenix city council at nine o'clock this morning you gonna be following that yeah it's it's interesting because for whatever reason they didn't consult me before the meeting so I'm not no I think I'm pretty sure this mask thing is going to is going to pass I'm just certain about enforcement police is already over rocked are we really gonna sent police officers into cover these things yeah and as we heard from sal the CCO he's a little concerned about that as well and you know he was even in Vatican say we can all agree that we should be wearing masks when we can't distance and we're in public we agree on that but how do you put this burden on law enforcement and you really want to send the cops into enforce the stuff and into one of those types of situation right where you know people's patience our is at an end right and the yeah I know it one more reason why I would be very difficult to be a long night hours when office hello yes have a good weekend Jamie Hey you too it is a it is it's it's such a strange strange days were living in this us against them mentality at this morning it's I thank god it's Friday I was I've already I have a guest coming on at nine o'clock because it was Paul Lee and she is a doctor actually was at one time doctor a pain management doctor they did da da shots in my back for sciatica I have a bad blow back issues well I have a lot of issues that just happens to be one he could fix and stop nodding your head Steve it is a and he's coming on at nine o'clock he's a position I went to New York and work for three or four weeks treating patients for covert nineteen in the hospitals and has got a harrowing story of what happens when covert nineteen over runs a city and so I have been following the date on covert nineteen from the very beginning and I will tell you I have not picked a side I didn't think the government had a right to close down businesses ask people to do the right thing they generally do that was my difference but I complied with everything the governors asked us to do from the beginning and I would not going after the governor for being too little too late none of that everybody that wants to Monday morning quarterback and I was fair about it I even defended some of the things that the governor did in New York I have nothing in common with politically even after he called out Arizona after the debate cool that New York was covert nineteen doesn't know politics it doesn't know race it doesn't know gender it is a damaging virus and we can look at the numbers and realize when changes need to be made when you start saying we are going to send the law enforcement officers in to enforce this stuff I have a bigger issue and part of the problem is it makes it easier to do it another time and that's where the problem lies in not to mention law enforcement in Phoenix is already stretched very thin we are understaffed there are hundreds of openings just in the Phoenix police department alone and I think there's probably going to be more but you're going to now say and I you know okay guys a go and I disagree on some things politically but the mayor and the city council are going to agree on saying you should wear masks in public great but they're going to make it a police issue I honestly do you think nine one one calls using nine one one should be used for mass usage the answer is not a chance so there's not emergency numbers this is where I believe we are going to understand how understaffed the Phoenix police department is when you look at the mask issue itself when you see the numbers of people that will call and there's a lot of people out there that just do that what everybody talks about the parents of the world that's a new catch phrase the Karens these are the people that are reporting others to law enforcement so even if you use the non emergency number so Phoenix police department's radio system in the way they do things and dispatching calls if there is a crime in progress and it doesn't have to be a violent crime if there is an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed immediately the nine one one caller and the dispatcher dispatches and a tone goes out and it says emergency traffic that doesn't necessarily mean that a building burning down a bank is being robbed but they say emergency traffic and then they dispatch the call and it's could be a shoplifting in progress it could be a husband white flight wife fight in progress whatever it is it's happening right now that's a priority one call then there's priority two calls in priority three calls what level on those three is not wearing a mask going to be and I think it is lower than a level priority one call in the city of Phoenix good luck you are all about to see how understaffed Fenix PD is because you're going to call about somebody not wearing a mask and you're not going to see a cop for an hour you know why because they are busy chasing priority one calls there is no proactive collection say nine there is very limited proactive policing that's able to go on a couple of years ago is they re bid and what happens is cops bid to be the shift they want the precinct they want to work out of and a lot of that is done by seniority and during the re bid a couple of years ago the chief had to notify the city of Phoenix police department that a lot of you officers that are in specialty details now when I say specialty I mean investigating crimes whether it's property crime violent crime some of the others they were pulling cops out of detective squads and special B..

"Mean that that sickens me I mean if the Phoenix city council wants to pack that place with a bunch of activists maybe you guys should pack that place with people that are for you and for your side what do you think well let's keep in touch Gatos because you're gonna see a lot more of that I think that Tuesday's vote definitely woke a sleeping giant we've had nothing but an outpouring of support calls emails here at the office people that are actually willing to do something because they do understand that most people those yellow T. shirts that were standing up on Tuesday the other spouting lies you know they're saying well you know you guys killed you know my nephew whatever well that may be but let's look at what really happened because if we have any officers that are going to prison for motor from any of those incidents in twenty eighteen no our officers out there raping sexually sexually assaulting citizens no they're not you know don't get up there in lights but you know currently the mayor council just love to hear that stuff I mean they let it go on I tried to get up and talk to and I get cut off at the Mike two minutes but it everybody yell teacher got talk as long as they wanted to so it seems like you know we did have a chance to win from the get go London is joining us plea president Phoenix law enforcement association so it was mayor cake I a go her vote push this through do you think I A. goes anti cop well I I I I certainly don't fear procon she never comes up here and talk to us and you know you can talk a good game actions speak louder than words you can say you value all the officers that are out here doing the job and that are dying at that their spouses and families worry about him constantly it's easy to think you know I really value you what are you doing to show that you value us that remains to be seen you don't think she showed you anything that says I value the work that the police officers do in Phoenix do you no absolutely not absolutely not no I don't you know let me jump to the other side because I think this is a joke and I think the model that they picked it just it feels like this is nothing but activists but at the same time I understand where the public's coming from they feel like there's no transparency part of that is the way that that it feels like there's always the cops police in the cops they get to do the investigation bread how do you bridge that gap to the public where it makes it feel like that there is more transparency you show that there's more transparency yeah because sometimes I think everything should be released from the minute something happens if you look at the established process we have now we have two civilian said on our disciplinary review board we have three to sit on our use of force support they were able to answer those questions currently have been forever I've been on twenty four years it's been that way and it works it has worked people that that violates the public trust they don't remain employed with the Phoenix police department so that that just kind of shows that the entirety of the Sikh community doesn't know how we already operate because no one wants to go out there and tell them you know we can talk about it at your end this was someone's going to call for wired nearly because we are sworn peace officer that is what we're up against but we already have processes that would that work that work well so there's no need to reinvent the wheel we didn't suggested that maybe some of these council people that don't understand don't take the time to actually understand what goes on use it on one of these review boards no one's going to tell you know using your elected you can go in there and see how it works but I don't think anyone has done that yet and it probably won't are you worried like I think a lot of people are that instead of trying to find unbiased people to put on these boards now that Garcia has already set up that it's going to be nothing but community activists that are going to say that everything every piece of training everything you guys do is racist is over the top festive yep well let's look around the country where they have these really restrictive boards I don't see words helps you know we're still talking about Seattle's we're still talking about Portland in Albuquerque these things just don't seem to work they have an agenda they want to run a parallel investigation is obviously going to be pointed towards whatever they want and what scares me a bit this model being was voted on it's purely a framework there's no detail to it at all all these legal questions that are going to rise course if you ask mostly yeah we have lawyers look at it or you know everything well I don't think you did and why didn't you present everything if you've already got it figured out how come you didn't present everything the I. evil Phoenix city council they created a a civilian review board for the Phoenix police department and we're I. chatting with brit London a plea president police law enforcement sociais Asian I want to know how you believe the cops are going to react to this our friend Brandon Tatum who was a former Tucson cop told us this yesterday well it makes you not want to do your job you want to go out of the practice one to throw us off the street I'm telling you when when these city council members do this what do you do you sit in a car so somebody calls you they only call you to respond because they don't pay you to be corrected so you sit around and wait for a call to come out and you give people lackluster service that's what happens because tomorrow is down you don't have the energy you don't have the passion anymore you don't want to be a cop anymore but you need a job to preach a family trip to you think that the Phoenix police department officers would think about doing the bare minimum here because their morale is down the passion level is down there's a lot of truth into what I what I just heard him say our morale is already kind of low here we've been working with last person power for ever the committee just continues to grow like any profession or anything you're doing you're doing the best that you can do and then you have people that are telling you or or creating a narrative about youth job you do the people you associate with that work and it's not true you know how does that make you feel and of course our message here at the Phoenix law enforcement association that we will continue to protect the citizens of Phoenix like we always hands and yet you know I but I I can't speak for every individual is like you know what how to come to put my neck out today because I might get fired for nothing or I might be I come of political pawn and if you know anything about chess you know pondered force was to go away to protect queen and we've already had that happen to a couple of our members definitely said it's going to affect the effective service your hybrid London thank you for joining us Phoenix law enforcement association Pritchett they're ticked off they should be ticked off guard because Garcia is a clown he packed the room with activists I think one thing I hope that critical way is he's got to do the same thing gotta fight fire with fire you've got a pack that council meeting those boring awful council meetings with a bunch of pro cops pro cop people because some you can't just have this huge a rupture of cheering like at a ball game when you hit cops hard and it was a it was a rabbit punch that they got earlier this week yeah yeah well I just think that the way it was it was jammed down there and I here's a and the other thing I mean let's take away whether you believe in it you don't believe it you hated the whatever it is I hate it also the fact that it doesn't seem to be gathering fully formed planets put together in such a way that you know the intricacies of something it's just like we're gonna try it maybe it works maybe it doesn't this is going to be the cost and away we go without any real road map of how we're going to this is going to play itself out which I also think it's very unnerving coming up next the middle school principal that is telling the girls at the school you are not allowed to say no to a boy it's the greatest chat show yes some of like street lights three sh sh sh I've had so many friends of mine say how real is live stream is it it's it's it's they're amazing they're incredible my dream is one of the most amazing companies and if you were sitting there and you've got tons of credit card debt get away from that stuff consolidate with lights and get away from that expensive all of that and it is expensive you know that twenty plus percent on average is what people are paying how about this it's so.

"Gators and chat show join us we'll talk about the evil Phoenix city council the oversight of Phoenix police officers plus the dems debated in South Carolina water the Gators and chat show this afternoon at two thanks for joining us America Taylor is with us in Cincinnati hi Taylor welcome to the Dave Ramsey show hi Dave how are you better than I deserve what's up so I kind of have an almost eighty part type question my fiance and I are getting married next March and we're both working on saving for a house in a sexually I'm trying to figure out whether it do we need to wait a year or two years to put that down payment because we both have been able to cut back quite a bit within the past year and my second question is we go in we put this down payment on a house either a year or two years from now how much should we possibly put back for an emergency fund because I've been used to myself with all my single income first is actually having a house and having another encounter to the next well I think you calculate what your estimate of expenses are and take your monthly expenses times three to six months of expenses and that's how you set your emergency fund aside I know you're right I think it would be more than that it is now with the house coming on but you also have more income to deal with as well so that's good news how are you today I'm about twenty four how much we got saver house for me right now I've got about thirty to put back in that he has about two thousand right now has two thousand ten thousand ten thousand you've got thirty two thousand so forty two thousand way to go good job and you're waiting a year to get married why the reason is because we had some family emergency that happened this past year yeah and availability to get near it is next year okay cool all right well you would not buy a home until you're married together for certain and then your question is whether to do it right then or whether to wait a year the the advantage of waiting a year is you will probably make a different decision on the whole okay because after living together for a year being married for a year knowing each other for a year it takes always laugh and say it takes about a year and a half close your mother lauded by yeah but it all that means is you're getting to know each other and you'll you'll probably make different decisions so I would wait at least six months not because you need to from a money standpoint but I just think you'll make a different decision on the house I think you ran along you know take a six month lease on our little apartment and just pile up cash some more cash while you're doing this and just enjoy being married enjoy that phase of your life starting off and then start looking for a property and you know you're gonna learn about each other you're just gonna relate differently once you are married and you do now it's it's subtle but it's true and I just think you make a more wise decision and there's no rush to buy a house or nothing evil about not owning a home for you know for a short period of time while you're having patience to make a better wiser choice and that's what I would do Lauren is with us in Phoenix hi Lauren welcome to the Dave Ramsey show hi how are you better than I deserve what's up I would want to get your input on a decision that you can make I recently had a new job opportunity company I currently make about eighty nine in a regular salary position and it has really good leadership pathways but the opportunities to transition a contract work with another company making a potential one twenty to one thirty a year and I've never done contract work for the rest making a record paying off our debt but the opportunity to pay it off faster with higher incomes really enticing which one gives you the best life ten years from now you know that's hard to say because right now it thank you for being a regular salary position I would probably say it's a job and now okay we're trying to pay off our debt hello good afternoon make more money over the next couple of years and enticing so we can get all of our debts kind of then I feel like I could go down a different path with my job if I wanted to I'd have that freedom of not having that you want to go down a different pathway with your job when you're debt free so I am not sure I mean it was a little while because for different pathways I wanted to I wouldn't feel that I need to stay in the field I'm in well I mean long term the you know your your current position is probably your best bet unless you wanna hop careers if you are hot careers and let's just go make the most money we can make do anything for a short period of time and then hop careers because that long as long term take anywhere you want to be so it might be time to dole soul searching on that again what do you want to be doing ten years from now and which of these steps takes you there the best I will be debt free so that I can do X. Y. or Z. with my career I don't care which it is right and then after then look back up because what you don't want to do is take this deal just because it's short term thinking to take the contract deal unless you're going to be short term anyway but hopping careers and here's the thing with contract you're gonna pick up seven and a seven point six five percent more in taxes you pick up the other half of your payroll tax called self employment tax okay and so that's going to amount to about twelve thousand dollars a year so if you make one twenty on contract minus twelve the spread on this is not that great right you know you know ninety minus of our art ninety to one await or whatever it is that's not a huge huge jump and so and I don't know what else you're losing in terms of benefits and other stuff as well health care I mean you're probably not making a ten thousand dollar spread if your pet if you've got a decent benefits package where you are on this jump it's so it's it's not as big as it sounds and that's if you get one thirty are right may mean one twenty so you're just you're you're gonna pick up some extra taxes are going to pick up all the benefits so and like you said you're taking more risk probably but I have a feeling that you're probably pretty marketable anyway so you're gonna land on something yeah I don't I don't think but the a good way to help your critical thinking skills I always use in when I'm looking at something is you know if I buy this if I do this if I make this move does it further where I want to be twenty years from now or does it just make me feel good in the moment if it makes you feel good the moment it's usually the wrong decision if if it is it's a money in a career decision out you know what I want is the right thing if it happens to feel good moment that's great too but broke people always have short planning windows bill wealth have long planning windows and that's what I'm talking about so you just look out there ten years and ask yourself with the ten year from now version of me like me for doing this doesn't make me doesn't make the ten year version of me ten years from now version me smile that I did this and you know in that case you pull the trigger on and you go do it I'm okay with either one this is not a huge race it's not a huge race so they need to be a real reason to do it Justin is in Columbus Ohio hi Justin how are you I'm good how are you today better than I deserve what's up well I kind of have a different question for you I don't have any debt I found a couple years ago like on my car no credit card nothing like that it's more of a like a life questions of I make like forty thousand a year of my job at the distribution center I work at and I'm I'm considering should I go back to school because I I got straight and work at a high school go back to school children like that or do I teach how are you twenty three okay what do you want to study I've always wanted to be a teacher like I love helping kids on a soccer coach now cool yeah hello back school me a teacher pay cash for it yep course right yeah I'll definitely do that all right is still here I answered that thirty three year old version of you just like I was just saying I'm going to go to the caller thirty three year old version of you you're twenty three now is gonna be smiling when your teacher they're not gonna be smiling if you're in the distribution center right go be a teacher brother we need good teachers.

"The man the myth the legend Gatos what is the question all right be evil Phoenix city council approved a plan to create up to billion review board for the police department what do you think Hey it's a good decision be a bad decision I can't believe we've got a clown like Carlos Garcia activist sitting on the Phoenix city council totally anti cop thank every cop you know in Phoenix is is a bad egg and he kind of was the head of this plan I mean how much oversight do you want the police to have it's really getting ridiculous they already read the cameras yeah and he also is is if I have a cell phone it is is you know shooting film at them I mean how much oversight do they need and when you see the guy as you said when you have someone that's an activist that is writing this policy I don't think you want it activist writing policy this is something that of all the people in that city council it shouldn't be him leading this charge it should be his plan that goes through because you're right he's anti cop but I love the question because this is something everyone in the valley but especially if your information should be discussing yeah I don't think they're gonna put an activist on this panel on the top of the billion review board and there's no doubt about it they're gonna put it getting a tight top person there that's that's the next question is who gets to place these people on what's the criteria what's the training and who gets to choose who's on this panel probably Carlos Garcia I mean you know maybe we'll put himself on this panel so if you could just pay cops more very little lane T. shirts thirty where all these council meetings that just ripped tops you are always a ray of sunshine Gatos always a ray of sunshine thanks man I appreciate it the the Gaels B. Q. poll question of the day is brought to you by the valley Toyota dealers Goldie KTRE dot com to get out of that question led to see what your opinion is very quickly I want you to hear of the CDC doctor who is talking about this here in the US the corona virus in the U. S. here's what she sets these are things that people need to start thinking about now so this is severe it's going to be life altering it she believes it's coming to the U. S. but in spite of what we saw over the last two days the stock market in the last two days it was the worst point wise not percentage wise but point wise biggest two day drop ever in the history of the Dow is far as points go but not in percentages but it's up today four fifty five already and so it's it seems to be trending dramatically up where are we going to see a recovery because what we're looking at with a Harvard professor saying forty to seventy percent of the planet could be impacted by this the CDC is as saying it's not a matter of if but when you've got the city of San Francisco now declaring a state of emergency are we on the verge of fear mongering here I always believe in precaution I wouldn't travel to China right now I would be leery if I had a vacation planned for Italy or for but you have the chance of getting sick on a trip anyway is this something where we are now bordering on just headlines are we scaring people there's there's being prepared and there's being scared the stock market is a financial way of looking at that when people are being cautions that all this is this could be bad and you see a selloff or you see a slowdown or reduction because we know that for a time at least until we get this under control that it might affect trade it might affect import export but when you see panic that's why they have stopped gaps in place they have they have fail safes in place that you are able to make sure that we stop the panic that causes a crash what do we do to stop panic here people being mindful but are we being a responsible when hearing the CDC state of emergency it's not if it's when the city of San Francisco a state of emergency not one case in the city of San Francisco yet they've already declared a state of emergency are we bordering on panic where did you come in just after nine o'clock why did U. S. senator Ted Cruz blast a Supreme Court justice gonna take a little topic of the Supreme Court and what's happened with that body over the decades and why I think this is one of the key reasons why they want to make sure Donald Trump is not the president or they take back the Senate in the next term so it's a great topic we're gonna cover coming up in the next hour show again I might prove that this is K. T. A. "On services on good service uhhuh so when the Phoenix city council voted not once but twice because had a Mulligan yeah answer him to increase valve free on the service of uber and lift to and from the airport to me it was all isn't that exactly what the constitutional amendment it is about a ten I didn't DO I remember coming on air just ranting and raving about what they did that is it is the exact reason why the vast majority people so this is gone back and forth AG part of itches waited on it took the side of the constitution Arizona state constitution arguing and and and filing that this vote by the city council was in violation and so where we stand today is yesterday uber send a letter saying work we're done on January thirty first eleven fifty nine yep or out because the fees were supposed to take effect yeah so soon afterwards the Phoenix city council back down that how you would put it Monica well sell to CCO he is one of the Phoenix city council members he was one of the two that voted against the ride Cher fees this is what he had to say they ended up keeping cars I'm concerned they've realized that what they were doing was wrong this was illegal and it was against the state law now he says that the Phoenix city council which he's a member of caved I I not sure so sure I would see it that way okay I think the Phoenix city council realized that with the case being up at the Arizona Supreme Court it made more sense to just put everything on hold and not implement the fees and then of the Arizona Supreme Court rules against them then they would have to back pedal and stop those fees which might not be that difficult but the still it's a lot of administrative costs and things that would have to happen to implement the fee and then all that would be lost if they lost so you might as well just wait to see what the Arizona Supreme Court is going to do it are you also always impossibly damages it could be yeah what to call it makes sense and when it comes to resources it's the way to go so get oral arguments will be in March news over here March twenty six I believe I saw and find out no I do have a I need we need to get eighty per animatronic guess maybe to explain this so here's a question knowing that we pass this proposition uhhuh and again I'm just trying to take this out of the picking on uber and lift there was not only unconstitutional sorry about that you said part of it just got too excited can how then does this sky harbor I just raise any he for a service that they provide you know that's a really good question because are they set in stone forever maybe because the Phoenix city council claimed that these were fees right right share fees and of course that is the exact wording in the proposition in the Arizona counties are no fees well Phoenix came out and tried to say look this really it's a fee but they they hurt crouched ID and rent right there saying that uber left another ride Cher companies they are written teen the roads they are rent teen the curb to make money for themselves just like a store has to rent in order to sell its wares inside right so they're making money from it so I don't know if it's the way that they they defined it themselves as a fee I it makes sense that if you're going to use the airport to make money the airports to get a share of that so I understand if your store inside the airport you're making money from selling your things you have to pay rent you have to pay the airport some money right but the but the the airport my argument to that is that the air inside the airport you know think of that but the store where you go in to buy overpriced snacks for the for the Plano seriously there and our price get up get a cactus moon to give your friends because you were in error or scorpion in the lolly pop that is their property for lack of better term right if this is you say that that's what Phoenix says hi that I'll give me property when I dropped Monica Lindstrom off at the airport the brutal are not using the car up but you're not use it for commercial purposes you're not using it to make money so when my mom dropped me off at the airport she's not using it to make money now I argued well as a lawyer let's say that I'm picking up my client that's paying me on that where you see how that goes if you're traveling for business you're using the curb to make money well here's the problem that we don't want to go too far down that road because the airport might implement a toll like a lot of other airports in the country have where body that come you say that but what the Arizona constitution prevent them from putting a toll road through the airport I don't think so okay because it's not a service right it's everybody's treated that that same and it's not based on goods or services so that if the Arizona Supreme Court comes out and says no you can't do this violates the constitution I would not be surprised if Phoenix city council starts looking at a toll you also we had a some of the airlines way in southwestern American are the two big ones the terminal for tenants and they have the most flights in and out of the sky harbor saying that if VS is up held and these fees don't go through they think the airports just gonna charge them more the call gate fees from home when they already charge they do charge that you you you you and that you have the flyer are going to end up paying more because they will tack on the extra money to the cost of a airline ticket which yeah I I think they're just trying to make themselves look better I mean come on you're gonna raise the prices of nearly tickets so they've been out of airline tickets get higher they're going to say is probably did it ever monocle instrument in for Pamela today and it's a good thing we have the key TA our legal analyst in here because the Harvey Weinstein or some people calling it the me to trial kicks off but I have some questions and there are some things that make me uncomfortable about this and it's not on the Harvey Weinstein side it's on the accuser cyber talking about it right after bomb a clay checks in with our top stories.

"It was in the afternoon on a result is news station three this slow lift uber sky harbor bad idea taking me off that idea I mean I remember the first time I asked you about it I don't even get the question out you said exactly that bad idea bad idea so you know the Phoenix city council is totally for state and we wanted to be easy we want to be accessible we want our citizens and visitors to to have convenience I I'm not an attorney but I think it's it's pretty easy to see that this is going to be overturned a a pilot challenging you can I've got to two should hire is on I've gotten to know mayor guy a go we have a good working relationship I've come to respect her and I wouldn't be surprised one bit if she's got a plan B. that she's working took to fix this realizing needs to be fixed did you talk to like you know they did this in Texas right like Austin came and they came down hard and they've started pulling out and eventually the lawsuits came but you start you started to see big conventions pulling out because people don't want to take the taxi's they want the competition they want lower prices is more convenient for our business yeah exactly it's terrible and on every foot front the taxis are not competitive I mean once last time you called the taxi even before Hooper left it just doesn't work they don't show up they're not reliable did this isn't perfect but it's such a dramatic improvement in its given such safety and couldn't convenience to to to people across the state so I'm I'm I'm confident that the mayor gay goes got something in her back pocket and she she's she's bright I'm sure she's got a fax I thought we see but a man I'm a hard time thinking that that's going to happen because it seems like she really likes this idea is she is push this the Phoenix city council has pushed it and and I'm just I'm looking at it I'm like you know I don't think anybody from the scenic city councils ever taken in Hoover or lift I actually had one member of the Phoenix city council of apple and I don't know what I said have you ever taken over or left once for you really don't understand it then yeah and that's why I think that they're totally out of touch I don't think they've ever been one of these cars I don't think you understand why it's so it's so great it's so easy it's what we must have a year and can governor you're on the the the side of Hey we're open for business and people are coming in here let's get over it left at the airport for pizza all we've got it they've got to be able to come to the airport and you that you would get taxed if you took me to the airport right off me off on the way home from work there's no reason these guys that are out there trying to make some extra money available if you need I'm available hope you got you got you know it the interesting thing though is is and I look at this the entire time I listen to all of them talking there yet rabble rousing and stay and stuff my question is been okay where's the money really going because I always feel like if they say it's doing this but much like everywhere else it ends up in some sort of fund and it doesn't do the things it's supposed to do where's any kind of accountability because that was something when I talk to a few and they're very like well we're gonna that a you know I mean I just don't trust them and it's a tactical which one it's tax on the average working person which is much crap it's it's a tax increase it's gonna cost citizens more it's going to call because people they're coming to our state visitors more and yeah we do have to have that kind of accountability why are they trying to change consumer behavior when people are using this because it's convenient because they can't rely on a taxi and because they don't want to take a turn for the pocketbook that's right a governor I was told that like the Arizona legislature to put together a like a new law you know and I mean I don't know how hard that would be to do is get on that there's there's there's some discussion trying to search Benso said I should know about it and you know sometimes it's this public pressure that actually gets a a council to to make a better decision to have made an arrest in any public pressure well it doesn't seem like it's going away and every times people go to the airport they're gonna remember it yeah I remember when they go to vote to yeah I remember my advantage for four Bucks or five Bucks or couldn't get to the airport the way I wanted to get there yes so I remember this Arizona governor Doug Ducey in studio so while you get your big speech next week state of the state tell about how you said you would struggle if you had to re twenty page all I could read twenty eight your your speech can be like twenty thirty pages I could do what's that could be twenty or thirty now it's ten we'll see what will generally not at all I'm I'm I'm known for brevity okay do you add let me see what's front brake trouble because he's like he's like he's squinting and he's just like what what is it works and sometimes I feel like and you must think the same thing you're like he's never read this before when he finds out facts that he doesn't know and then he's like a you guys like do you have well I I I I I and and Gatos and Chad I add let them all here this is all and look it's all state to state I mean you're you're you're prepared your think it through an agenda you want to pre sell it you want to make sure that you Bob you you've you've thought it through and there will be a a few parts where you can insert some of our something additional might write jokes for union like safe on that you know that there there's not a ton of humor in the state of the states are like somebody in front of the hold up an applause card or anything I know none the drop what I just told the star rents are you guys think about that.

"Between Phoenix police and a valley family continues this time the drama was at the Phoenix city council. Millions, of course, have seen a video of an encounter between Phoenix police officers and the valley family it spurred apologies from the Phoenix mayor and chief of police over the conduct of the officers. KTAR reporter Peter say more joins us now. Peter, you were at the Phoenix city council yesterday for what was supposed to be a Phoenix city council meeting on what on a lot of things. It was a regular meeting, but of course, on the budget because we're less than ten days or actually are ten days away from the end of the current fiscal year. New one begins, July first so budget items are coming up, including for the police department seven hundred twenty one million dollars. That was all regularly scheduled. So what did this meeting turn into though, because it wasn't nice and calm? Instead, we heard a lot of this going on. I had to say something because I'm tired. I have to listen to this. I'm gonna say there you go shouting down that. That I want the public to see this never allow anyone else to speak. I got it. Alejandra will be followed by Kerry, Waldinger, then Peter, we'll speak. So what the heck was going on there, though. Because that doesn't sound like it was about the Phoenix police and seven hundred twenty million dollars for a budget though. So the protesters with Aaron action and others with them came into the meeting to take advantage of the budget item to talk about it to talk about basically police brutality, as they allege and demanding that the city council through the city manager through the chief of police fire the two officers caught on the video with Dr on aims at his family. So you can follow that chain, right there. They again took advantage of a regular agenda, item and turn it into a protest via public comment. Okay. So they were supposed to look at the budget, you had these protests. You have these comments, did they enter into deciding to fire the officers or did they deal with the budget. What exactly ended up as the result? So they did nothing with the officers following the. The announcement at the Tuesday listening session at the pilgrim's rest Baptist church that the mayor and the chief and others with them, we'll review the recommendations of the community over the next thirty days and get back to the community. So then the council after all that discussion after all the public comment voted in favor of the budget, seven hundred twenty one million dollars for the police specifically. And of course, other agencies were involved in those budget line items or the agenda line items. It was business as usual. It was a seven to two vote, I should add for the approval of the police budget and all the other budgets that were up for vote that day. All right. So we heard a clip of at least set. Well several voices not very happy. Did the city council interact with the public at all with these comments? I mean they were obviously, they're commenting on the incident that happened with the police to council ask the public, any questions, did they make any comments about it. I mean they stuck to the budget item. They didn't wanna talk about or they didn't talk about the, the, the outside angle of the police brutality or alleged. It seemed like they were even listening to the people. A good question. I mean sell the CEO was listening. He certainly responded as we just heard that clip a few minutes ago, whether they were listening or not that has to acknowledge that, but I should point out that one of the council members Carlos Garcia, one of the newest members on the council, just a few months was wearing t shirt that said and police brutality. He's a he has a career in activism here in the valley, and he showed his support in essence for the protesters by wearing that shirt. Well, maybe not so much the protesters, but at least for, you know, making a statement saying that's exactly right. He lets his tee-shirt do the talking, and yet he voted in favor of the budget. He was one of the seven that said, yes. And. Externally the city council members focus on the issue at hand which was the budget. And of course, they got an earful about police brutality, and everything related to that talking with our terrific KTAR news reporter Peter Seymour. He was down at a Phoenix city council meeting that devolved into fun times. I would say more than fun times. I would say at times, chaotic comments shouting back and forth between city council members and the audience calls for order, Peter these comments from people in the audience, how many of them, would you say were polite appropriate? And how many of them, would you characterize as something that we had to have a call for order that we're just totally off? They can use the beep. But yeah. I would say most of the comments, you could say did not result in a shouting, match or vitriol or anything like that. More productive than they were. They were productive. They were angry spectacle, they were, I guess you can say it that way to the people who are there speaking on the budget weren't there about the budget. They were there to be angry and to use this avenue to address their city council members on record about this topic. No one had to be escorted from the room to my to my understanding. That's a positive. It was. Yeah. And, you know, and same thing was the that happened at the pilgrim's rest Baptist church on Tuesday, Knowle's forced out. We know all about what happened there. So the city council meeting was respectful. Hopefully it was productive and that the comments were taken seriously. But other than that, you know, the council of business at hand and they went right about it. As soon as the protesters were done speaking on public comment, but two nights ago you mentioned that community meeting that took place at the at the church. I would characterize that as more of an open forum, where comments could be welcome on anything and everything regarding Phoenix. Police yesterday was specifically about the Phoenix city council. There's no way that they could have said, hey, if your comments about this, you're going to have to wait. This is not the time and place for that comment. You mentioned nobody got kicked out, but at the same time the purpose of the meeting was to vote on this budget, and all these people show up to talk about another issue. Nobody can sit there and call this to order and say, you know what if you're not here to talk about the budget, we're going to have to move on. Well, they could have said that, but then the protesters could come right back and said, I'm not advocating for either side, by the way, we are talking about the budget seven or twenty million dollars house. Being spent, or is it going toward anti-bias training is going to this? And how come we're paying for officers who were always in trouble. You know, in the eyes of the community and the police brutality, so they were able to make that they make that connection. And that's why the city council didn't stop them unless they felt that the comments were going on too long. They had a two minute. Limit technically speaking. It wasn't always enforced. But that's about the the best that the council had at the disposal, I have been on a city board before. And there's a gen does that you have to follow, and they send information to each one of the members so they had all the information about the budget, they I would say they were ninety nine percent decided in their mind how they were going to vote, and they can't change the agenda at the last minute, they can't turn around and adds something on there, because that's not fair to the rest of the public that didn't receive notice about the agenda item. So I think just from being on a board before the city council did the right thing and allowing the public to speak. And and it. I think it took it took the animosity level down. Maybe just just a little bit because people were allowed to at least say something right? But it had nothing to do with the budget, and so they did exactly what their agenda told them they had to do. And what the rules of the city meetings dictate we're talking with KTAR reporter, Peter, same more. He was at a Phoenix city council meeting, where they were supposed to, and they did end up voting to approve a seven hundred twenty one million dollar budget for the Phoenix police, and I guess what surprises me, Monica is several of these city council members have said that they were unhappy with the police only sell Decio has really come out in favor of the police off of the city council. And yet they voted to approve this budget seven to two. So it seems like a lot of them are kind of two faced in how they approached the issue. I think they're a little bit of different issues though, Joe because it's this is one issue that's going on the brutality. There's been a lot of. Incidents. But we're specifically talking about one incident recently. They can't turn around and not approve a budget for everything else at the police need. I can understand them wanting to talk about the issues, but you have to have a budget, and like Peter said, the, the it ends June thirtieth. Right. So this starts to July first, so they really didn't have a choice. I think what they could have done. It's talked about this a lot before the final budget came to them. And now they can continue to work towards changing something afterwards. Also, the, the city budget has been on display online for several months. So, of course, everyone had the opportunity to go. Look at this bet everybody did. Yeah, I was first in line. Let me tell you, Peter, what's coming up today for you so today, just a few minutes from now, I'm going to watch a display or a demonstration on a body camera videos with Phoenix police department and the cameras that. I'll have they're going be expediting. The order of more cameras. They have six hundred eighteen so far. This is what sergeant Tommy Thompson tells us, of course, more on the way Jerry Williams, the chief is announced that more cameras are on the way. Anyway scheduled for August. We'll get an update on that today. Maybe ask about some of the procedures and protocols using the cameras and just pose all sorts of questions to sergeant Thompson, and see what he's going to tell us see if anything has changed in light of all the police brutality allegations over the last several weeks, any protests planned from any of these activists groups, Jared Maupin, the Representative for the Ames family says protests plans are in the works. And as soon as they're confirmed, he'll be announcing them, and we'll certainly be on top of them. Peter will keep our eyes on it. Thank you very much. Thank you. Good to be with you. You know, another young African American man says that the Phoenix Cup from the viral video that we've all seen or you've probably seen attacked him. We'll get into that more at three o'clock and give you the details on that, but coming up next. Did you know that dad's go on vacation and mom's take trips? We'll explain what that means next..

"This isn't like the Phoenix city council meeting where people were talking about the Suns arena. Really in all honesty in the big picture. How important is the sun's arena getting refurbished in the great scheme of things not really not really a big deal. Right. But p not compared to that. But people did get loose and got it. Got you right, then yelled at in Tempe. The people that were protesting said a Tempe. Police officer never should have shot and killed a fourteen year old team. Right. And this is a big deal. You've got a kid who is dead. And you've got a cop who either thought he did the right thing. Or right now is saying I wish I hadn't done it. Or I don't know. Right. So a lot of people were angry, and there was no control over the microphone. I think the Tempe city council did not start with the fourteen year old boy who was killed and that angered people because you know, if you're going there to protest this one incident, and it's a big one this one story this one. The death of a kid. I mean, that's a big deal. You don't want it on the docket? That's number twenty one or fifty it should be number one in Tempe didn't start with it. And you know, what the people let them have it. And they said, no, no, this is what we're starting with one person said this is our meeting, and you know, what the right? Yeah. Right. But in my situation, I think there's nothing more important to talk about. But he doesn't want to get anything done or accomplished. You can't start out with this. Because nothing you're going to be there all night and not getting anything done. So I understood why they did it out of order. I disagree because I think that's how you get it started. I think you can't start at that way. Because you're not going to get anything the rest of the docket done that. And that's okay. With me if he asked me that's fine with me. I would if it were me and I wanted to go down to this. And I wanted to protest and they don't want to start with it. I go croquet. And then you know, what I would do. I would then they would bring this story up. Didn't it's not even a story. The death of a kid, right? You gotta bring that up. I if you don't I would I would be hollering to all right? Here's here's the here's what I don't want to see happen because I agree that if you want to protest protest, it's horrible. The death of a kid is horrible. I get it because you can yell and scream and then talk, and that's that's part of what they did. But I would I don't want to see this escalate to all Tempe. Cops law enforcement is bad which has happened before with other situations. Other people being shot shot that you then extrapolate that all cops would have done this or all of the insert the whatever, you know, police department. You wanna talk about are like this. It's not true. Okay. It's not true. Do you wish it didn't happen? Absolutely. Does it happen? Yes. And his Brandon Tatum who's the former Tucson police officer. We've talked to him a number of times you talked to him earlier today as he said let the process play out let the investigation happen. Let the discipline happen. If there is any maybe they fire this police officer who knows but let it play out. Let's not jump to the conclusion that every ten P cop wants to kill somebody. Because that is just not true. Yeah. I mean, the fourteen year old teen. I mean, I wish it didn't go down this way. But he's not completely innocent either. But he didn't deserve to lose his life. But still he's not completely innocent. What's a fourteen year old boy doing trying to steal stuff out of a car, and then you run, and when you run things go bad, and I'm not saying that he deserved to get shot because every police officer we've talked to said the officer made a mistake you shouldn't have shot the kid, but the the the teens shouldn't have been in that spot either. But it doesn't mean that he. Served to get killed. I mean, that's that's crazy thinking, but I mean, this is this cop was highly trained you went to war..

"Five people are dead police and see bring arrest of the twenty one year old suspect, but have not yet said what is motive was President Trump says after being uninvited to the house chamber to give the state of the union address? He's postponing this speech until after the partial shutdown ends. You're never more than fifteen minutes away. From today's top stories on Arizona's news station. KTAR news. KTAR in-depth. So we weren't expecting any surprises during the Phoenix city council meeting yesterday, you know, councilman sell the CEO who was a a no vote one of two no votes on the Phoenix city council for this arena. Deal told us yesterday on Arizona's morning news that he thought was going to pass and it passed by the margin. He predicted here on the air. But there was something very surprising yesterday at the Phoenix city council meeting. Let's give you a background here for last. We heard from Mary rose Wilcox. She lost the democratic nomination for congress to Ruben Gallego. But once upon a time, she was on the Phoenix city council. In fact, she was on it when the funding for the Phoenix Suns arena was I approve and she spoke yesterday in favor of this deal. We felt we needed to jump start downtown. So I asked you to keep the promise of the council voted on this and renovate this building with this tax. I both. Remember, jaime. She went onto the miracle accounting board a supervise right? Yeah. And in one thousand nine hundred seven she voted for the sales tax to build the baseball stadium. This is after voters had voted it down. Right. And that was the controversy. Right. Yes. So a lot of people were not in favor of a baseball stadium paid for at least in part by taxpayers. So that was a big controversy back then. But someone else who spoke yesterday at the Phoenix city council meeting was a man by the name of Larry naming he was called to the microphone by interim mayor fellow Williams who did not seem to recognize. This guy's name on August thirteenth. Nineteen ninety seven. I walked into the miracle county board of supervisors auditorium and shot Mary rose Wilcox over the baseball stadium tax matter. Are you kidding me? I think a lot of people were first off like that guys out of prison. But yeah, he serve. Twelve years in prison for shooting Mary rose Wilcox because he's saying this as a threat like watch out. That's what people are wondering. Well, what he said next. I think some people definitely took as a threat. He said saying yes to the arena deal would be akin to what he did you? Go ahead and pass it you're crossing the line. It's equivalent to a bloody act of violence against the public. All un. Believable. So. Yeah. And yesterday people were just like they couldn't believe this guy showed up and said what he said. And then what he said afterwards. He was mixing it up with reporters. The first voice you'll hear here is is Bram Resnick from channel twelve but there's a whole bunch of reporters that talk to Larry name after this this meeting, your comedy your comments today perceived as a threat against Mary rose Wilcox debt, you media people. We talk about that's nonsense is that nonsense. All I did was up there. Talk about the matter. All I said was. Yeah. Yeah. I'd say she deserved. I say I have no regrets over what I did. That's what it's saying, man. Trying to shoot Mary. Absolutely not. No, no, no. No. No. No. No, no. Reason I shot her in the buttocks. Tried to kill her deliberately shot her in the buddy, you said at the time he tried to kill her. I said it would have been. Okay. Wow. And that guy is walking around walking amongst us. I know right. Hopefully, he's not breaking the law as a as someone who is a convicted felon. He is not allowed legally to own a firearm or possess a firearm, and hopefully he's following the law because man, you know, I've never been a big Mary rose Wilcox fan. I really have never been won. But she did not deserve to be. Nobody deserves to be shot when they're doing. Maybe maybe maybe there was something in her mind other than the public's best interests. But still, you know, just serving the public and trying to to do the right thing. Most of the time people don't deserve to be shot for something like that. And for this guy to show up. Unbelievable. It's five nineteen now KTAR time for a check of traffic. Again, here is any Sullivan in the valley Chevy dealers traffic center, I seventeen still looks good north and southbound from the loop one on one to nineteen th avenue, and you've got delays. I ten eastbound off. And on from eighty three rd avenue to fifty nine th avenue US sixty not as yet. So that is a sweet ride east and westbound between Christmas, and I tend to America.
