Biden to huddle with top donors as 2024 effort kicks off

"President Biden and vice president Kamala Harris are laying the groundwork for their reelection campaign with donors. I'm Ben Thomas with the latest. The president and vice president were hosting about 150 of the Democratic Party's top donors for dinner Friday evening and a weekend strategy session, the event itself is not a fundraiser, and it's not clear how many attendees have cut checks at this point, but these are the high dollar donors and fundraisers who will tap their networks to help fund Biden's campaign over the next 18 months. It's expected to need to raise well over $1 billion. Some democratic governors who have proven to be prolific fundraisers, including Maryland's Wes Moore, Phil Murphy of New Jersey and Gavin Newsom of California are expected to be in attendance. Operation Rescue's Randall Terry Describes His Vivid 1983 Vision

"You, in 1983, have this experience in a church. Talk about that. So we break up into little groups, there's maybe 7 of us in my group, we're in a little Sunday schoolroom. And, you know, we had our list of what to pray for, and abortion was on the list. So I started praying. Lord, you know, please, save babies. I mean, I didn't even know what to pray. And I had a vision. So this was not normal for me. But I saw a scroll coming down in front of my face with words written on it, telling me what I was supposed to do. And that I was to recruit people to go by the hundreds and thousands in front of abortion clinics. That we were to re-educate the public to the value of human life from a Bible based perspective. And I saw myself on Donahue, the Phil Donahue show. In the vision, in the vision, I saw myself on Donahue. And so I went to my, I went to no one. I didn't know what to do. I was so startled, I didn't tell a single stole and I thought, okay, am I going crazy? 'cause this doesn't fit my theology. I don't know what to do. And then I had this idea. If this is from God, I'll find something in the scriptures to confirm it. So I started digging through the Bible, not even knowing what I was looking for. And I found this phrase, the shedding of innocent blood. And I thought, oh my goodness. And so as I studied it from genesis to revelation, most of the time in the scriptures when the phrase is used, the shedding of innocent blood. Most of the time it's talking about child sacrifice.

It's not unusual to have a 19 year old. Yeoman in the navy or a tech, pumping this stuff out. Just because of his age, he is not a function of access. What does disturb me is that this Pentagon, this DNI, this CIA knows that, for instance, the Wagner group. Infiltrates these chat groups. They have algorithms, and if they see the word secret. All it does is gives questions and press conferences to Rory McIlroy into Justin Thomas and to other people who can dunk on Phil, right? Like there are facts that Phil can not fly above. The fact that he's playing in a 54 hole tournament and the fact that they don't have world ranking points like there are things that they that he can't talk his way out of. Looking for his three played one of the rounds of the day today, shot four under finished 6th. And then Justin Thomas had a nice little rally T ten, good to see him playing well. Zach Blair really from nowhere finished T ten, which I imagine gets him an extra start. So maybe he doesn't have to use another start on his major medical, but I'm always a little hesitant saying certain things with certainty about. Where is that start? It would be the Dominican? Yes. I don't even know if he needed that. Yeah, like maybe that's an event that he is just getting into anyway. It's kind of a, it's kind of a week where, yeah, we're coming off the high of back to back, designated events. Like this is sort of what the, what the regular PGA tour events are going to look like, I think, for the foreseeable future. And I think that that's an encouraging thing in the sense that, yeah, we still have Jordan Spieth and Tommy Fleetwood in the mix, along with, yeah, I guess Webb Simpson and Justin Thomas wasn't too far off the pace. I guess this is like a good vision for yeah, it's just a positive vision for these events. You have drama down the stretch. You have a tight leader board. You have compelling stories. You have first time winners. All this good stuff. I don't know. Do you feel like this model we're going to see and feel good about it or question it or what? So I think this is kind of fun for our jobs because we are learning about the process of the future as it comes. And the perfect event is the vast bar. Because it will not get elevated. Designated. However you want to coin the term, at least in the near term. I talked to one of the people that runs this tournament. And they're like, no, we don't quite see the value as much for valspar to put up the money for a $20 million purse. And so this will be a designated event that follows two designated events in the future. And where does that leave it? Is there really going to be this hot pursuit for those final 5 spots in the designated events that a valspar can help push you into? I think from the people I've talked to, I was talking to Aaron fleener, JT poston's caddy. I was talking to Nick Taylor and Joel Damon, and a lot of these guys, and I mean, people are going to be really playing a lot of golf.

West Virginia AG Phil Morrisey Discusses His Latest State Battle

"Why are we putting up with men playing in women's sports? It's a very simple question. And the attorney general of West Virginia, someone who I've known for quite some time actually, who he should be the senator from West Virginia, that's a separate issue. Has a pretty serious answer, which is we're going to challenge this in the courts, joining us now is Patrick Morrissey, Patrick, welcome back to the program. Surely it's great to be with you and you're always spot on on these issues. This is a really interesting case. I'm really excited to talk to you about it today. Yeah, I am equally as excited. And so why don't you just explain it to our audience? I'm sure there's a lot of legalese involved here. So take as much time as necessary. I asked the simple moral question, why do we allow men in female sports, explain the legal question? Absolutely. So first of all, Americans have been watching what's been going on. They saw the NCAA swimming championships. They saw a lot of instances where biological males are coming into compete in women's sports. And West Virginia, a number of years ago in an effort to really get ahead of the curve, said, we're not going to let that happen. So the legislature, knowing what the future would likely look like, they said that if you're a biological male, you couldn't play in women's sports. That doesn't deny you the opportunity to play sports. It just says that you're not going to compete on the woman's team. So we thought this was a very reasonable common sense approach to protect women from a safety perspective and in terms of advancing their athletic opportunities. Charlie, as you know, title 9 has been utilized by women to advance to further athletic activities and also to develop leadership skills with women. So the West Virginia legislature knew all this at the time, they passed the law, but shortly after the law was passed, you got the inevitable challenge from plaintiffs trying to enjoy the law.

Are the WSJ Articles on Binance and Tether Trial by Press?

"Let's kick off with some good old fashioned tether FUD. On Friday, The Wall Street Journal reported that tether had used falsified documents and shell companies to obtain bank accounts, citing emails leaked to the newspaper they discussed some of the tactics used by tether and their intermediaries back in 2018. The article claimed that an email from Stephen Moore, one of the owners of tether holdings limited, said that a major Chinese counterparty was trying to quote circumvent the banking system by providing fake sales invoices and contracts for each deposit and withdrawal. He wrote that it was too risky to continue with this method, considering his signature was on the fake invoices, and recommended that the counterparty abandoned its attempts to open the account, saying quote, I would not want to argue any of the above in a potential fraud slash money laundering case. In March 17, according to The Wall Street Journal, Wells Fargo stopped processing transaction from several Taiwanese accounts that tether had been using, and in a lawsuit filed against the bank, tether called the move quote, an existential threat to their business, but withdrew the lawsuit shortly thereafter. A few weeks later on a conference call with users, Phil Potter, tethers then chief strategy officer attempted to calm concerns, saying quote, we've had banking hiccups in the past. We've always been able to route around it or deal with it, open up new accounts or what have you. There's been lots of sort of cat and mouse tricks that everyone in the Bitcoin industry has to avail themselves of. The article also claims that another account opened up on behalf of tether in turkey was later used to funnel money to a Hamas linked terror organization. And on top of that, the article also chronicles an attempt to funnel money through Panama using a company called the crypto capital corporation. The company allegedly used a series of shell companies to move around more than $1 billion. In October 2018, around 850 million was seized by authorities in the U.S. and Europe during an investigation into bank fraud and alleged money laundering. The seizure caused ripples through the crypto ecosystem with tether losing its peg and making a loan to bitfinex its sister exchange to shore up tether's balance sheet. But for next claims to this day that it was defrauded by crypto capital corp and is still fighting the seizures.

What's the Deal With Biden's Clueless FAA Nominee?

"Charlie, did you see Phil Washington? Oh boy, this is a great topic. Biden's pick to lead the FAA. Completely fail under scrutiny of senator Ted Budd, from North Carolina. Why on earth does Biden insist on unqualified nominees? And Diane from Oxnard, California. By the way, Oxnard right next to not next to you, but right near Santa Barbara. And so thank you for the question. She said, didn't we just have a breakdown of air travel over the holidays? You know, it's interesting. Tucker Carlson deserves a lot of credit for this. Tucker years ago would do monologue after monologue trying to warn people that woke ism, one of the first things woke ism will, in fact, and it will harm your day to today life is infrastructure. The ability to get from one place to another place to get goods from one place to another place. This is one of the most painful clips I think you'll ever see. And one of the reasons this keeps on happening is because the Biden regime does not believe competency is the top priority or the reason to be in a leadership position in government. Here's Phil Washington, the nominee to run the FAA he goes zero for 7. It's an extraordinary clip play cut one 13. Mister Washington, can you quickly tell me what airspace requires an ADS-B transponder? Not sure I can answer that question right now. So what are the 6 types of special use airspace? Sorry, senator, I can not answer that question. So what are the operational limitations of a pilot flying under basic med in senator? I'm not a pilot. So can you tell me what causes an aircraft to spin or to stall again, senator? I'm not a pilot. Okay. Let's keep going. What are the three aircraft certifications FAA requires as part of the manufacturing process that the three types? Okay. Let's just keep going and see if we can. Get lucky here. So can you tell me what the minimum separation distance is for landing into parting airliners during the daytime? I don't want to guess on that senator. Are you familiar with the difference between one O 7 and part 44 8 O 9 when it comes to unmanned aerial? No, I can not it's okay. Senator Ted Budd, I got to give him credit. He did a fabulous job. He's totally wrong on Ukraine. That's not even a topic because I've been a little bit hard on him recently, but that is a masterclass in how to just run a Senate hearing.

"Words that I don't know. That's what he's supposed to do, which is fine. That's what I kind of took away from it is that Phil has put himself in a position, first off, the original lawsuit in which he and a number of live golfers were suing the PGA Tour, was titled Mickelson at all versus the PGA Tour. This is what Phil is supposed to believe that there is wrongdoing by the PGA Tour. This entire thing was rooted in the fact that Phil thought the media rights were not being paid out structurally enough to the players. So this is what Phil's supposed to think. There is also the Department of Justice investigating anti competitive practices and so that is adjacent to the actual civil lawsuit. It's not clear what Phil's necessarily referring to because he's so veiled in his messaging. But this is a thing like you can't talk about Phil and live golf without mentioning these things. That's my reminder to golf fans at this point. Like, you know, I've probably bothered you with it. I've spent too much time looking at lawsuit documents, court documents, trying to understand who's going to win that battle because it's going to help determine the future of pro golf. And if these two sides can coexist and like people will tweet at me, email me, give it up, let live be. Let them exist. And I understand why they are fatigued with the headlines. But Phil isn't shying away from the headlines, Phil saying these things in a very ambiguous way. And so people need to not look at Phil and act like he's innocent. He is not giving up on this fight. Just because he pulled his name off of the lawsuit, doesn't mean he's not extremely still involved in various things that are happening. The federal investigation is ongoing, like the DoJ is continually doing this. This is not going away. It's going to continue to be in the headlines. And that's just a little corner of the live PGA Tour battle. And I just don't want people to forget about it and act like it's just a golf versus golf thing. Right. I mean, yeah, we were talking about, you know, we were talking last week about how now this is product versus product and how the tours have now sort of set it up that way, but it's clear that Phil is thinking a lot about what's going to happen in the courtroom too and whether there are indeed anti competitive things that will come out there that will be in some way damaging to the PGA Tour.

"That yelling and hooting took place, I don't deny, but it was Friends of the excelsiors and not of ours. So he's saying it wasn't our supporters. It was supporters of their team. Now we had another rebuttal by FH cowperthwaite, the captain of the excelsiors, FH cowperthwaite. Amazing. Wrote in to say your correspondent is mistaken in saying that either the Niagara's or their friends treated us unfairly. They acted as gentlemen on every occasion and the hooting spoken of by tempest fugit was made by outsiders, enemies of both clubs. So Richard says, sadly, the mystery of the identity of the Hooters remains unsolved. Fortunately, the problem seldom arises today, fans but rarely calling out players as shanks. However, they do often call them other things, but we're accustomed to that. At that time, it was seen, I think, as somewhat unusual to even have large crowds showing up to these games at first when that happened, they were like, who are these people? They're not playing in the game. Why are they watching us play? But this was, I guess, what are you doing here? Why are you here in this place we built for you to watch us this will work. Right, and then eventually they figure it out, oh, people like watching this, I maybe we can sell them tickets. And the rest is history. But this, I guess, was the origin of people just standing by and hooting and things, and maybe even interfering with the game at times, so we don't know whether it was supporters of the Niagara's or the excelsiors, or neither. But someone was shouting disruptive remarks and even pretending that a foul ball had been hit to disrupt the play, just a bunch of cranks out there, and they've never gone away. Yeah, I mean, their persistent those cranks. And that was a term I think for baseball fans was cranks at the time, but now we would use that in a different context as well. Anyway, thanks for the history minute or whatever we actually end up calling this. All right, I'll leave you with a little etymology here in case anyone was wondering about sticky wicket, here's what Wikipedia says, wicket has several meanings in cricket in this case, it refers to the rectangular area, also known as the pitch in the center of the cricket field between the stumps. The wicket is usually covered in a much shorter grass than the rest of the field or entirely bare, making it susceptible to variations in weather, which in turn caused the ball to bounce differently. If rain falls and the wicket becomes wet, the ball may not bounce predictably, making it very difficult for the batter. Furthermore, as the pitch dries, conditions can change swiftly, with spin bowling being especially devastating as the ball can deviate laterally from straight by several feet. Once the wet surface begins to dry in hot sun, the ball will rise sharply steeply and erratically. A good length ball becomes a potential lethal delivery, most batters on such wickets found it virtually impossible to survive, let alone score. Certain cricketers developed reputations for their outstanding abilities to perform on sticky wickets. So that is why that is used as a metaphor for a difficult circumstance. Also, as for Shanghai or Shanghai, it originally was the practice of kidnapping people to serve as sailors by coercive techniques such as trickery, intimidation, or violence. So in the 1850s, that term joined the lexicon, along with the words crimping and sailor thieves, so the 1850s was when that quote came from that term had just become popularized, seemingly because Shanghai was a common destination of the ships with abducted crews, so they'd say that they were sailing to Shanghai and then it expanded just to mean kidnapped or induced to do something by means of fraud or coercion. So evidently the original meaning may not have been pejorative, but maybe best avoided nonetheless. As for shank, I really don't know. Hopefully it doesn't mean something horrible. I don't think it's the shank as in golf shaking, a poorly played shot. That seems to have come along later. It can mean crooked or to send off without ceremony, your guess is as good as mine. Also wanted to mention on our last episode, I noted that there was an incident of an umpire being caught on the PA mic talking to another empire and seemingly not saying anything very interesting and we lamented that there had not been something juicier overheard. Well, there have been a couple more instances that made me think of that. There was one report that on June 1st, the home plate ump with his mic still accidentally on had told Adam Duvall that he is having a good hair day as it turned out it seems to have been the PA person or someone the PA person was talking to who had entered the PA room and they said you had a good hair day and that was broadcast to everyone, so that seemingly was not actually the umpire. Then there was a case of umpire Tom hallion. He of S and the jackpot fame being overheard saying, once I send it to New York, it's their fucking call. He was talking to one of the benches about a replay review, but I'm pretty sure that was just caught on the TV mic, not on the umpires, Mike. However, there was one more case again involving Halley and who can't seem to avoid being overheard, and this was a legitimate one. He put in the earbud as he was preparing to make a call over the PA, and then the earbud fell out of his ear, and frustrated, he said something loud with the mic on, and both the fans and the broadcasters enjoyed it. And now you can enjoy it. Here it is. So a replay review is underway. All right, so. Fires here wired up to sound. So we're.

"Well, well. I mean, it's tricky because so if I were them, I would be conscious of the fact that next year, at least from a luxury payroll, a luxury tax payroll perspective, and granted, you know, they're going to have to replace some number of these guys, but they are due to take like a $100 million dip in payroll just by letting free agent contracts expire next year. And they're going to need to, they're going to need to replace some of these dudes. Like some guys, you might have an on roster answer to already, like you're just going to play start at short instead of DD gregorious, but you get a need like a lot of a bull. Right, yeah. And part of a rotation. So it's not as if they are necessarily going to stay at that level, but they are going to have some attrition next year, you know, Gregorius is a free agent or a neighbor and Kyle Gibson and familiar and Brad hand and Carrera is a free agent next year and I think they have a mutual option for Zac eflin, so that isn't an actual thing that happens. It's just like they're for reasons. And so you could say if you were then we're going to have payroll flexibility next year relative to where we're sitting currently. So what if we took on money at the deadline as a way to reinforce what we have, knowing that next year we're going to dip down below like several luxury tax thresholds. Yeah. They do have a lot coming off the books, but they also still have a lot on the books, at least relative to other teams, like sure. Currently, they have the fourth highest payroll according to the handy dandy roster resource payroll breakdown page after the mets, the Dodgers and the Yankees, so one of those teams is not like the others in terms of who put the bank for the buck that they've got in the season. You can also sort the 2023 2024 and 2025 payroll commitments on this page. And if you do that, they are third in terms of 2023 commitments after the two New York teams. They are first in 2024 commitments and they are second in 2025 commitment. So they have real Muto and Harper in Wheeler and obviously all those guys have been good, but those guys are under team control for a few more years at least. In some cases, much longer. And then you have the recently signed schwarber and Castellanos contracts, right? So that is a lot of, I guess, for a handful of players, now if they were to continue spending at this current level, then you're right, they would still have some room to maneuver there. I don't know that they will be able to convince ownership to stay at that level or whether it was like a, hey, we're already this far invested. Let's make one more push and actually try to win with this team for once. But it's tough when you don't have a foundation a core of homegrown players who kind of came up through your system and actually panned out. They've just been lacking that. And so they've tried to supplement from outside and they've hit on some great free agent signings, but I guess the ones that they tried to make this past off season have not really rewarded them to the same extent. Schwarber and Castellanos have combined to be exactly replacement level according to baseball reference war. They are a bit better than that according to fan graphs word, but they're both in that one O 7 one O 8 WRC plus rash, which is not going to cut it for them, given their other shortcomings. Speaking of which, the Phillies now officially do have the worst team defensive run saved total and the worst team outs above average total. So as was foretold, they have been the worst offensive team in baseball now by those metrics. And it's not going to get better, probably unless Bryce Harper can play defense again at some point. So it's just like a weirdly built team. Yes, it is a very strangely built team. Dave Nebraska took over and, you know, instead of doing the whole full scale rebuild, which would have been pretty depressing to embark on that at this point, he did the latter day Dave dumbrowski move of convince owners to spend more on prominent free agents and it seemed like there was a chance that that could work, but thus far it has not worked. So I just, it's a sticky situation. It's like, I don't know if it's hopeless and again, like they still have a shot, they could turn this thing around this season, but the best they could hope is that they squeak into a third wild card or something like clearly it's not a good team. It's not like a perennial contender, which is what you want when you come out of a long-term rebuild. So that ship has already sailed. Yeah. And it's funny because like, so, you know, our numbers are estimates, right? But they did that weird thing where they went over a luxury tax threshold by a little bit, but not by a lot of it. It could be worse, but with they are the first luxury tax threshold is 230 million and we have their payroll estimated for tax purposes at two 36. So like you might say, oh no, there are already over the threshold or you might say, well, the next threshold is two 50, and you're already going to pay tax in this bracket. So why not just blow it out a little bit, but I don't know if I have a ton of confidence in how they'd spend because they built their team so strangely and I don't know how you remedy all of these issues. So it is a sticky wicked, you know?.

"However, numbers two through four on the pitcher were we reported fan graphs. Tariq's Google marking Perez and updated through his performance on Thursday, Nestor Cortes. Yeah. So it's not necessarily who I would have foreseen. I guess Joe musgrove and Zach Wheeler are tied at the top of the NL leader board, which is maybe more predictable. But after gusman, it goes scuba, Paris, Cortes, and scuba, I guess, has established himself as the best so far the most promising of that trio of Detroit pitchers because my is Casey meiss has been out with an elbow injury and that Manning has been out with a shoulder injury and Tarek skubal is absolutely dealing. And there's been great. And then we've talked about Cortes recently and how amazing he's been. Martin Perez is maybe the most like who, what? Why? Easily the most surprising. Yeah. Which I don't know what to make of that. He has a 1.42 ERA right now. He is a 2.35 5th. He is not allowed a home run in ten starts in 63 plus innings. But the poll has on we. So what does that even mean? Yeah, the ball does have on Wii, but he has a two 54 and a 0.0 home run per fly ball rate. So that's kind of turning. He is throwing more sinkers. He is inducing more grounders. So maybe that's part of it, and he's had better control. So again, like the peripherals are strong, even the ex fip is strong, but not like 1.42 ERA. So he's had flashes before he's had stretches where he was quite effective, but for the most part, he has been an average two below average pitcher. So I was not expecting to see Martin Perez close to the top of a pitcher war leaderboard, even in early June, but there he is. So that's weird and fun. It's weird and fun. I don't know. I like it when we have real randos at the top of the leaderboards. 'cause, you know, a couple of things are happening, either a guy is having the best stretch of his career, in which case we should applaud it because it's probably going to change for him, or he has done something to remake himself in a way that will make us pay attention to him for longer. And I think both of those are exciting. So yeah. So last thing, what are we going to do about these Phillies? Or more accurately, what are the Phillies going to do about themselves? Because I subscribe to the baseball reference newsletter, which I recommend, it comes every day during the season. And it's just a little snapshot of what happened the night before, so they give you the top offensive performers in the top pitching performers, and then sometimes they tell you what the hottest teams are players over the last 15 or 30 days are that give you the scoreboard. Maybe they give you a little stat head, fun fact, spotlight, they tell you who made their major league debuts, they give you some matchups and probables to look forward to. It's just a nice little thing. It takes me a minute to read gets me caught up on some things. But one of the things they tend to do in there is they have the biggest play of the previous days games by win probability added. So just like what was the biggest swing? And I think the newsletters after both Monday and Tuesday, the biggest play was a play in the Phillies favor, and usually not always, but usually the player who produced that biggest play was on the winning team that day, because they had a big win probability swing in their favor. In this case, though, the Phillies lost both of the games despite having the biggest play be in their favor in both of those games. They ended up losing them nonetheless, both to the Giants. And so, as we speak here, now entering Thursday's games, the Phillies are not only way back in the NL east and everyone is because the mets have just kept up their furious pace and they now have a ten and a half game lead in the east on Atlanta 12 and a half on the Phillies 13 on the Marlins. That's like one of the biggest leads ever. I think in the divisional era at this date and the state the season started a little later than sometimes it has. So it's pretty impressive that performance by the mets and pretty unimpressive the collective performance by the rest of the NL east, where there's no other 500 team. But the Phillies are not only way back in the division there at 22 and 29, but they're also I think now 6 games out in the NL wild card race of 6 games out of the third slot there behind the Giants and there are four teams, I think, in between the Giants and the Phillies, that would be the Diamondbacks, the braves, the rockies, and yes, the pirates as a number of people have pointed out, have the best record of a Pennsylvania baseball team currently. So the Phillies have the greatest loss in fan grass playoff ads since the start of the season, they are down 38.7 percentage points as we speak. So they started out as more than likely more than a coin flip to make the playoffs and now they are down to 20.8%, which given how they've played recently, feels almost too optimistic. Anyway, there have been calls for Joe Girardi's head or at least his job. He does seem to be on the wobbly chair at this point. He has said that he is not worried about his job security, just because generally he does not worry about his job security and he just tries to do the best job he can and if he gets fired, so be it, I suppose. So a lot of other people are unhappy with George Girardi's performance, but obviously it's not just Joe Girardi. So what do you do if you are the Phillies and you find yourself in this spot yet again? I mean, they've been 500 ish year after year after they've been expected to come out of the rebuild and be a winning team. And now they are sub 500 and they're finding spectacular ways to lose. And it's not a pretty baseball team in terms of the aesthetics of their play and also not in terms of the results recently. So I don't know what you do. Do you just keep throwing money at this problem? Is there hope on the horizon? Do you just blow it up and say, well, this rebuild failed? We're going to just try again. I don't know..

"All because of Spartans left Fielder Jordan Lala, who used a trick play taught to the team during spring training workouts by Tampa Bay Rays center Fielder Kevin kiermaier, who taught them how to deco runner into breaking too soon for home. On that type of play and or so the coach said it was an amazing play that you may never see again. So kir Meyer explained that the plan is to camp under the ball with the glove held high so that the runner thinks it will be a routine catch. Then to pull the glove down and not make the catch until just before the ball hits the ground, creating enough of a slight delay for the runner to break early. So you deke the runner into thinking that the catch is going to be made at shoulder height or head height or wherever. And then the runner goes anticipating when the catch is going to be made. And the Fielder, then doesn't catch the ball at that level, but yanks their glove down, catches it just before it hits the ground. And in that gap, while the ball is flying from head height and falling down to knee height or whatever, the runner has already left the base, then the Fielder makes the catch and then can just make a leisurely throw to the base to catch the runner who now tagged up early. So there is a video of this and I will play the audio call of this play. Winning run at third, one out, bottom of the 9th, Spartans with a drawn in infield. The pitch to Frank.

"But everyone else or most other players are sad about this because their balls aren't going so far. But if you're Aaron judge, and you declined to sign a very lucrative contract extension. And now you are one of the only players who can hit a home run and you must be the real. Because and this is sort of consistent with what we have seen in the variation of the ball over the years, which is the players who benefited the most from the very juicy baseball. Were players who otherwise struggled to hit home runs at all, whereas guys who had thunderous thump in their bets to begin with didn't benefit as much because they weren't hitting wall scrapers. They were just hitting a bunch of home runs because they were big and strong. And so that the opposite would be true as unsurprising. But as I sat there and I watched Jaron judge hit a home run today, I was like, you know, Pete Alonso thought that Major League Baseball was juicing or deducing the ball depending on the upcoming free agent class to rob free agents of potential money. But what if the real caper is that Aaron? Judge. Did you sell the walls? This year because he wants to dominate the free agent market. I would never accuse him of being so decorous and inconsiderate of his fellow players, because I doubt that that is consistent with his values, but he sure is benefiting from a fishy situation. Yes, a few follow-ups to things you just said. First, I guess it would actually be easier to hit a home run in a vacuum if you yourself can breathe. Just because less air resistance. There would be very challenging. Yes, it would. SIS, I believe, classifies certain plays as good fielding place, so maybe I assume that a home run robbery is classified as a good fielding play. And I guess if you're in judge and you get back there and you stick your hand up and you catch the ball, it's a good feeling play. It's not a great fielding play. Maybe you could count it as a home run robbery, but not a good field of play. I don't know. Maybe that's a way to adjust the books, balance the book somehow here. And also, yeah, Aaron judge, that was his 19th home run. Of the season. That's a lot of dingers. It's a lot. As we speak, I guess between Yankees games, maybe he has a one 97 WRC plus on the season. So yeah, that bet on himself that he made, at least through almost the first two months of the season. Working out pretty well. So I think he got a decent offer if the reported terms of that offer were accurate, but thus far, it seems like if he were able to keep this up, he might do even better than that as dense and borsky just blogged. I think had some zips projections in there and judge has raised what his contract recommendation would be, it's still not as high as I think what the Yankees reportedly offered him just because of his age and his health and durability and so forth, which was probably on the Yankees minds when they were crafting their offer? Yeah, I likely would be on other teams minds when they were crafting their own offers. Right. Yeah, and you figure judges, maybe a bit more valuable to the Yankees than two other teams just because he has a reputation in New York and has sold a lot of jerseys and brings some marquee value with him. But yeah, he is having a fantastic start to the season. It's like he's the only one tall enough to go on the ride now with the new bubble. So he's just not having to wait in line. He is just writing it over and over again. Although the balls and offense in general have picked up a bit, but they are still down historically speaking. There's one jar of olives on the uppermost shelf and he is the only one who can reach it. Right. So I wanted to mention while we were talking about outfield catches, another pretty special outfield catch, and this was from a college game this past weekend and was brought to our attention by listener and Patreon supporter Ryan. And we were talking about hidden ball tricks and the lack thereof and other types of defensive tricks and trickery that fielders could practice. And this is a great one because I have not seen or heard of this being done before and I applaud the innovation in the boldness and just the, I guess the slate of hand happening here. So this happened in a regional final game in division two. So I guess it was a regional tournament and Tampa was playing the Tampa Spartans and they were playing nova and what happened here. I'm cribbing from a Tampa Bay times piece, but Tampa was about to be eliminated. There was a 9th inning fly ball to deep left center and the winning run was going to score. I think it was maybe first and third and one out. And so this seemed like a certain sac fly, and it was going to be maybe not a strict walk off situation as we discussed recently in a pedantic segment, but not a pedantic walk off, but at least kind of technically a walk off and certainly a game ending play. So the Tampa coach Joe urso, he said, you know the game's over, I kind of put my notes down, put my head down, told his associate head coach, man, that's it. I start walking down the dugout, and then I started hearing he left early, he left early, so the runner tagged up here and expected to just go as soon as the ball was cut and not even have to hurry home necessarily because this was a pretty deep fly and it was a fast runner, but what happened was that the nova runner tagged up and left early and then was called out on appeal and so the game went on and eventually Tampa won the game in 12 innings and this was.

"Yes, the step last shirt has a few stats in it, and they're all Easter eggs for effective listeners. So there's a two 47, which is the famous Chris Davis consecutive seasons batting average. There's a one O 5 in there, which is Ryan Webb's total of his record for games finished without a save. And then there's a 1422, which is Barry Bonds 2004 OPS and was also Sam Miller's bike lock for a while, possibly still is his code for that. So that's great. And the shirts range in price and they also range in color and design. I think they all come in small up to three XL. I think from what I saw the how can you not be pedantic about baseball T-shirt is available in a broader range of styles. So I think there's just your standard unisex adult T-shirt and then it looked like there was also maybe a women's V neck and a hoodie. And something else, I think. Yeah, there's a fourth option. Yeah, I think there's a children's T-shirt. If you just want to, I don't know, get your kids beat up at school. You want to identify them early as, you know, people who will have an adequate number of friends. Yeah. It's a good way. I've seen some people say I've sort of identifying fellow members of the fan graphs effectively wild tribe if you want to wear these out and about or perhaps to a baseball game. Maybe people will say, hey, you're one of those. I'm one of those two, and you'll strike up a conversation. So that's nice. And you can introduce people to the podcast and if we do well with these, if people buy them, then we will make more. I'm sure we have other design ideas that we want to do. We have the tenth anniversary of the podcast coming up. So we want to offer a broader range of designs and also colors and maybe items as well. Maybe we can get some effectively wild mugs made at some point, but yeah, if you want to see more options, then we should sell out all of these. So please help make that happen. And as I said, there's a 10% discount for Patreon supporters. So if you're not already one and you're planning to buy one or more of these t-shirts, you could probably sign up at one of the lower Patreon tiers and it will pay for itself with the 10% discount on this merch. So that's out there. Check the show page for the link. I assume that these things will go fast and I don't know how long they'll last. So go get yours. If you want them for yourself or as a gift for that podcast person in your life. Yeah, go do that. All right, so in baseball and podcast developments. So like minutes, seconds maybe after I posted the last episode. Never a great feeling. I post these things often late at night when there's usually not breaking news at that time. But just after I posted episode 1856, which included a lengthy explanation discussion of the ongoing Jack Peterson, Tommy Pham, fantasy football dispute slap story. And just after that episode went up, our friend and friend of the show see Trent rosecrans of the athletic posted some Pulitzer worthy reporting about this saga and just effectively wowed fashion brought Mike Trout into the whole thing just when we thought the story had settled down and there would not be further developments. It turned out that this was actually still a developing story and it was developing in directions that I could not possibly have anticipated. So some of you may have heard because I had just posted that I reposted it, reupload it with a quick little intro noting that we had recorded prior to that news. Some of you, if you downloaded it immediately, may not have heard that. But here we are reconvening a couple days later to discuss this latest development and I'm almost apprehensive about what will happen next, but we'll come out after we finish this discussion. Who knows? Maybe this actually drove a stake into the story. But Mike Trout, it turns out, was the commissioner of this fantasy football league. Who knew who could have guessed we had heard that it was all Padres or largely Padres or former Padres and Jack Peterson and reported that Manny Machado is in this thing Eric Hosmer is in this thing will Myers in this thing, but clearly not just Padres because Mike Trout not only in it but the commissioner of it and Tommy Pham took him to task issued a verbal slap of sorts to make drought and his handling of this whole dispute about stashing players on your injury reserve. Try to do terrible job, man. Fam said Tuesday, trout's the worst commissioner in fantasy sports because he allowed a lot of shit to go on and he could have solved it all. Yes. He did say that femme said this with the hint of a smile. Yeah. So maybe that's important to know. But yeah, he had harsh words there. He did say nobody wanted to be commissioner. Yes. I didn't want to be the fucking commissioner. I've got other shit to do. He didn't want to do it. We put it on him. It was kind of our fault too, because we made him commissioner. Nonetheless, taking trout to task one of the maybe universally most respected and popular baseball players, controversy free. Yes. And he gets roped into this whole slap story somehow. I just did not see that coming. And apparently, this is also from sea trends PC contacted trout to apologize for disclosing his role later. So he felt badly about it and I'm going to I'm going to quote now. I'm going to quote now from this piece. Try out what have preferred not to talk about the kerfuffle, but the angels had previously organized a press conference for Wednesday afternoon. This weekend, the team visits Philadelphia, which is near drudge childhood home of Melville, New Jersey, several reporters have traveled north to ask trout about the homecoming. Trout pronounced himself excited to play again at Citizens Bank park and elated about the off season moves of his beloved eagles. He was less thrilled when asked about fam's comments. I ain't talking about fantasy football trout outside. Then in a sheepish but genial fashion, he proceeded to talk about fantasy football. Trout indicated he had spoken with both fam and Peterson. He chalked up the slap to the heightened emotions brought forth by the thrill of competition. Everybody's competitive, he said, everybody loves fantasy football. Who doesn't? He added Tommy, everybody who was involved in that is very passionate about fantasy football. A lot of people put their hearts into it. I do too. I lost that leak. Trout was less forthcoming about the particulars of the argument waged by famine Peterson, the initial charge from fam was that Peterson had illegally stashed him one on the injured reserved and picked up an additional player. Peterson countered that fam was doing the exact same thing with San Francisco forty-niners, Jeff Wilson, junior, fam indicated Tuesday. There was a difference between what was allowed on id's pan's fantasy football app and the leak's own codified rule. The commissioner, declined to adjudicate, did Peterson as fans suggested break the rules, I'm not answering them questions. Was Trump surprised the story was entering at 6 day in the news cycle? I think you guys are dragging it on. Yeah, I don't know if it's just us. It's also time you fam. Oh yeah. He restarted this whole story, but yeah, trap said it didn't the past. You guys just keep dragging it on, but it is a legendary fantasy league for sure. Oh, yeah. He did have one good line. Which was when people asked him if he was going to be the commissioner again in this league. And what did he say? This is from Andy McCullough. Trump declined to comment on whether Jack Peterson violated the rules of the league. He said he's unsure if he'll resign his commissioner for this coming season. Every commissioner I know gets booed, he says. Right. Yeah. So trapped in that fan the flames here..

"That have been in the ground for a few years or more should be okay because the event only lasted three days and most of us had enough leave coverage to shade. The developing clusters. There shouldn't be much if any damage as long as we don't see anything like that again for new plantings it's more of a concern as a vast majority of oregon vineyards including ours have no permanent irrigation and younger root systems haven't found their own groundwater sources yet. Fortunately we saw this coming the week before. And i was able to run about four thousand feet of temporary drip irrigation. Line down to the new vines planted last fall between unrolling the constantly kicking and twisting hose in thousand foot segments clipping the host to the wires thousands of times over and installing the drip emitters one by one through the hose wall. It's a truly underrated miserable experience but it was worth the effort as the worst of the heat has passed and the youngsters look to be in good shape. Our larger concern is how the heat exacerbated the awful drought we've had the memories of last september's unprecedented wildfires in the valley the nearest of which came about two miles from our place. It's still fresh in our minds with the dry spring. We just had an our normal dry summer ahead. We're all on guard and praying to avoid a repeat this year. As i often say since i got into this business i now understand why farmers are so religious by the way thanks to and gary from mentioning are hosting the summer of little's in on august seventh and that's from bells up that's from dave's changes opened up our rhapsody pino blunk. Oh that's wonderful. That's wonderful from alex. In new york city. I understand your hatred of pumpkins. It's a stupid flavor that people like solicit pretend to like when it's all because it seems like the cool seasonal things to do kind of like sitting around firepit on a brisk day. "Reinforce don't send in like your your friends music or your nephew or something like that. They have to send it s and send it to us with their permission so just to avoid any sort of problems just lovely lovely buffalo new york right near niagara falls and the home of the anchor bar which is where wings were invented. That's right yeah. That's where they were invented. And the and the reason wings were invented is because people had a whole chicken and use every part of the whole chicken except these wings that nobody wanted nobody could stand him now are defined wings now. Now it's now you gotta grow chickens with egg. Wave instead of two because people want him to see the price go up and chicken. No is huge now. Obviously meat and fresh produce chicken i do. I like chicken. I may not like watermelon. But i like chicken bomohs. No i like the bones. Yeah i like yeah. I like all that you know. I said that yesterday. I said to hell and i was at the gym. And helen said you really need to have more protein. I said chickens protein right. I had some chicken last night. And i described the chicken and she said you ate the skin. Didn't you and i said yes. Just fatty it's just various. It tasted good. She said no. No don't need to scale anyway. We're supposed to have tim leg laurent at this particular point in the show and it hasn't worked out he's been on. Espn all morning and it doesn't really matter We can talk about the game amongst ourselves because it's game one of a seven game series. It is the least important game in a seven game. Series is game one. The games get progressively more important most of the time. Every once in a while. You sneak one in like if it's three. Oh you know. Maybe the fourth game isn't that important in the greater scheme of things but game. One is the least important the honest onto combo who had been doubtful in the morning and then was upgraded to questionable played and played. Well he had. I believe twenty points and seventeen rebounds. He showed no particular ill effects of his injury and in fact he made a great block on one play ran the length of the court and just pin. The ball against the back board and still phoenix. One and reason phoenix. One is chris. Paul was great. This makes wilpon so happy chris. Paul had a bunch of points. He in devon booker had a bunch of points together because their strength the strength of phoenix is in the back court and the strength of milwaukee is in the frontcourt because middleton is a forward and onto kupo is a center center. I guess a forward on that team because lopez place center. I said this the other day. And i will say this again. I am not going to be surprised at all if the team. That wins game. One which is now. Phoenix sweeps the series. And the reason. I'm not going to be surprised if there's only one player on the court only one who's had any finals experience at all only one jae crowder. Who plays for phoenix. He played last year from miami. He plays on a new team every year. And so you think he must be difficult player to coach and yet he gets on a new team and he starts and he's really good and then he leaves and i you know. I don't know why somebody smarter than i will have to explain that to me on a different team every year and a critical player every single year because of the lack of experience in the finals. It's conceivable that that you don't have a fallback position to draw on to stop the other team. Now maybe they'll go seven and maybe phoenix a win tonight. And then milwaukee we go to milwaukee and win two in a row and then it's best two out of three series. I mean i can't tell you about that. But what i wonder about is what the ratings are going to be. We have become so accustomed to seeing the following people in finals number. One lebron james number two steph curry and then kawhi leonard and then kevin durant. I mean there are people who you associate with the finals in the nba. And none of them are in this. These are the last time phoenix was in. The finals was nineteen ninety three. The last time the walkie was in the finals was nineteen. Seventy four nine thousand nine hundred seventy four. So you've got cities that haven't been there in a long time. They're tremendously excited. But are casual. fans tremendously excited. That's what i don't know if you watch that game last night. I'll tell you what helped phoenix's uniforms are cool. And you would look at phoenix's uniforms and say i'm gonna stick around on this one. It was not a blowout but it was not a particularly close game. I'm not gonna lie to you and tell you that i stayed up. I did watch the first quarter and a half because like michael enough with the golf. It's fun but enough with that. And i don't really know who's going to win. I think phoenix is legitimately favored. It's gonna take about three games to figure out who's better at always does. But i think phoenix's legitimately favored because they won fifty one games during the regular season. And milwaukee won forty six. They finished second in a harder conference. And milwaukee finished third in an easier conference and they're more healthy than the walkie onto colombo played last night. You don't know if he will continue to play at that particular level they're more healthy and they also have home court so. I think that they should be the favorites. I think they're the best team. So hard for me because phoenix over the last five six eight years. They've not even been in the playoffs. They're losing record last year in losing record and now all of a sudden and the addition paul. It's no getting around this mean. I never liked. Chris paul mostly because wilpon likes him so much. I'm sure i would like them. I mean like the social..

"Otani is basically working for minimum wage because there was no big auction when he decided to come over here. there was no big clamor. This wasn't you know when the yankees and the red sox bid against each other and my right on this that he's not making much money relative to other players. Yes that's true. And i admire him so much because he just wanted to come here and play. He could have gotten a lot more money if he had waited and and gotten the right deal in japan and then had a bidding war. But he said. I don't wanna do that. I wanna come over here and play. you know. he's got his home life apparently mapped out and he did. When was in high school. You know. I'm gonna win a ring at this time. I'm at this age. I'm gonna win the world series at this age. I'm going to get married at this age. I'm never baby at this age. He's got his whole life plan. And i'm not sure where he is on the plan. I just know that at age. Twenty seven now. He's most exciting player in the game because of what he can do and he's not making the money that others are making but he will eventually. Yeah yeah. I don't know about having your whole life planned out like that because when when one of the domino's goes all go i mean i would wanna be around if it didn't work. Let me shift gears the one other thing. This is local from me. How can max scherzer not be one of the top. Twelve pitchers in the national league when he is fourth in the national league in earned run and fifth in the national league in strikeouts. And he's playing for a team that is under five hundred. How can he not be on the all star team well. That was my first comment. When we did the all star show the other day we always talk more about not on the all star team rather than who's on the all star team but that was my first comment how to make sure to not be on the all star team now. There's no excuse. Tony but there. The day i looked it up. There were sixteen pitchers in the national league with an era under three sixteen. That's a lot just shows you. How dominant the pitching is and ten of those sixteen including max or did not make the all star team so he's not the only one where the gripe but he's got the biggest gripe because he should be on the all star team with that strikeout rate in the area of two point one zero for a subpar team he i. I couldn't believe that he wasn't on the all star team. Well thank you for talking about the amount of pitchers who are doing well. Is the goop gone to your satisfaction and as a result will we not see hitting the way we used to hitting well. I don't think the group is all the way gone. I mean for a million years. Athletes are trying to find an edge in pitchers will continue to do that. But you you really have to be stupid to carry something really sticky on your glove or your belt your hat. Because they're going to catch now and it's good that are checking. I debated whether it was okay to do it in season but you know the pictures clearly were some of them were cheating and they were getting an unfair advantage so it's time to crackdown and seems to crack down. It's working though. Spin rates have gone down the the offensive numbers have gone up it. The pitcher is still have their way. Tony i it it helps the hitters for sure but the pictures are still so much better than the hitters. Are these days that they still strike out. A million per game and the average is not gonna go from to thirty six two to sixty six. But it's giving. The hitter is much more of a chance the other day we had two hundred eight runs scored. On june the thirtieth. And it's the most runs scored days two thousand nine and it's getting hotter when it gets hotter hitters swing better. It's easier to hit when the weather is hot and the ball travels for farther but the same time. I think it's time to even the playing field a little bit because right now the pitchers are way too good for the hitters. I would even it up of all of these suggestions that i have heard and i don't know we've probably talked about this before and i've forgotten it. The one suggestion i liked the most is to make sure every infielder has his feet in the dirt. I would not allow these shifts. I would not allow short fielders in right field or left field. It's mostly in right field. Obviously i would make sure all the infielders have their feet in the dirt dirty like that or not like that. Yeah i do. I've come around to that. Tony and by the way yesterday joey gallo of the rangers. They played a shift on him. They used four outfielders. They took their to middle infielders and made them short fielders in right field so there was only one player with his feet in the dirt and that was the first basement. It's the strangest thing. I think i've ever seen. As far shifting goes only one player had his feet in the dirt that was the first baseman and he was almost on the outfield grass. And mark tisch era has convinced me that this would help the offensive problem in the game. Because when you shift like that aren't hitters are incapable of hitting the ball to the opposite field. Joey gallo cannot hit a line drive to left center field. He just really can't do that so his only choices to hit it over the shift down. Can't him through the ship because they're six guys there though. His choices already got gotta hit it over the ship. Therefore it's hard as i can. I gotta get ball up in the air which leads to a million strikeout which leads to a lot of inaction leads to a lot of homers. But it's not welcome looking for. So i would like to see everyone with their feet on the dirt and see how the game is played after that. I don't have any of these suggestions for other sports. You know what i mean. I only have it for baseball. Because i've known baseball my whole life. And when you see these shifts and you see batters hit the ball one hundred miles an hour. And it's a one hop all the time to a guy who's positioned in exactly the right spot who has just taken a card out of his back pocket to find out how to play this particular hitter. It drives me crazy. Tim it does you know. God bless the managers for being smart enough to do it. But i would outlawed i would yeah and our hitters are at this point. Tony are incapable of making the adjustment. They've been swinging this way for fifteen years. Maybe twenty this the only swing they have. They can't hit it over there. They don't know how they were never trained. The industry never train them to do anything other than to pull the ball over there or to get the ball up in the air and then until we make a massive adjustment for our hitters. Were going to continue to see this stuff. But that adjustments going to take years and years. You can't just tell somebody who's been hitting a certain way for fifteen years. Okay we want you to hit differently. Now we want you to hit a line drive to left field and we want you to do it off of jacob degrom. Were max scherzer. Good luck. they can't hit them anyway. And now you're asking them to change their approach like asking him basketball player to shoot a different way. No we don't want you to shoot that way we want you to shoot this way. And they can't make that adjustment not after this many years. We'll always says. Just have them. Bunt and i said mike these these guys they're number three hitters and four hitters. They're not going to bond. They're they're gonna do it. They're going to think it's bad for them to bunt tweak tony. They're not getting paid to fund. The industry is paying them to do this exactly the way they're doing it..

"Is the tony kornheiser. Show this zita. We played zelda yesterday. And we're playing zita today. That's right not z. T. which is something you eat and not z. toll. Tom zito my friend. This z. tozzi it. This is called the picture this old fashioned rocker role. It's hard to resist. this really is and it pulled. They play in tim curtain. And we're going to start in fact we're going to be dominated by shohei ohtani. Shohei ohtani pitched last night pitch well enough to win. He's a better pitcher at home in california then he is on the road but the question is the all star game question. Is the question his manager. Tim joel madden has suggested to kevin cash that kevin cash pitch him and hit him. What do you think the american league should do. What shohei otani well. That's exactly what they should do with shohei ohtani. You should start the game as the designated hitter and show everyone what a great hitter is. 'cause he is and then they should pitch him in the game later on i would bring him in in relief so everyone can see how hard he throws so he might hit a ball at a hundred miles an hour he might have hit. Hit a ball thrown at one hundred miles an hour. Then he'll throw a ball at one hundred miles an hour and there's nobody else that can do that so the fact that he's the first two way player to play in an all star game i think we we need to see both sides of it in the all star game okay. So here's you can explain your position to me. My position would be that you start him on the mound that he becomes the first pitcher in the game for one reason that people really want to see him and for a second reason that nobody in the american league that they don't have roger clemens this year pedro martinez their best era. They don't have jacob degrom their best. Era is the kid from texas which is one nine eight and the other part of this would be so you can answer this because you would put him in relief if he's already in the game as the d. h. Is does it become hard to warm up. does it become cumbersome. Where does he go to warm up if he's an active player. That's why i would start him from the top. But you know much more than i how would you do it well. That's interesting tony. 'cause i never even thought it through. I just figured he can do this. But 'cause he can do anything but you're right. He should start the game. You've already convinced me. He should start the game he should start the game against jacob. Degrom that way. The two most exciting pitchers ash slash players in the game should start against each other. They should both pitch to each other and against each other because degrom is hitting three eighty seven this year and that would be. That would be perfect. You're right. I'm sorry i didn't even. It's too early in the morning for me to think clearly but both should start the game and both should save face each other. In fact if kevin cash doesn't start him and i'm rob manfred. I give him the hook like he gave blake. Snell lahore is he. Goes you know this is an exhibition game. You wanna you wanna get an audience right away. do you think otani. and i. i don't do you. Think otani is deserving as a pitcher to make the all star team or do you think that's influenced by the two way nature of his play. I think he deserves to make the team as a pitcher also knows. Era ages went up by over a run after one. Terrible start young otherwise been pretty good. He struck out like eighty seven batters this year. His splitter is like the hardest pitch to hit in the major leagues at least it was by early june. And you're right. Tony it's an exhibition game. Baseball is having trouble getting people interested. How can you not take the most interesting player in the game. The most remarkable player in the game. And nacho off all of his tools and by the way the tool that is most impressive to me is how fast he can run his feet per second. We actually measure. This now was at one point this year. Faster than fernando tateishi junior. He scored obama did from second base on a one hop a line. Drive single to right field against the orioles scored the winning run. I'm telling you joni five guys in the league could have scored on that play high. And he's one of them. That's how fast he is. He might be. The only guy gets down to first base faster on the angels. This year is mike trout. That's how fast time is he not just fast too. Great base runner. He's a remarkable athlete. In the all star game would need to see him pitch. We need to see hit and mostly we need to see him. Run in the interest of full disclosure. We had a power outage again. As tim was talking about. Shohei ohtani speed. I assume this is comcast. I hate comcast beyond anything you can imagine. I hope everybody who uses comcast hates comcast as well and stops using comcast. If in fact they had anything to do with this. I attempted to call someone at comcast and they were not in which is understandable because it was before eight o'clock in the morning but why didn't this happen on monday because monday was a legal holiday and comcast wasn't working and today is not a legal holiday in comcast is working and they do not identify the area where they are going to do the work and tell the people in that area. You might have interrupted service. That never happens to me. If i'm wrong. I apologize but this happens with a tremendous amount of frequency right sean. A tremendous amount of frequency lately. Yes much more often than than in past months and comcast provides the power and comcast is the people i write the checks two and comcast should at the very least tell people. We're working in your area from this time to that time and there may be an interruption. Now that i've disclosed all that let's go back to tim. Kurkin and shohei ohtani speed. You were saying that there's only five people in the major leagues who could have made that play. Yeah he scored on a one hop line drive single to the right fielder to win the game and he's not just really fast. He's a great base runner and the bayfront in the basically today is so indescribably bad. That's another reason. He stands out because he could really run the base. They always tell us manager. Joe mad. I i wanna feel here. Let me feel basis. He's a pitcher and he's asking to steal basis that's what he's that's the separator. He is such a fabulous athlete. He is so grateful to watch. And again tony at the plate. I don't wanna get too inside baseball. The ball on the inside part of the plate. Everyone pulls that ball. He can take that ball the inside part of the plate and hit over the left field fence. It's remarkable what he can do in any baseball activity. There are three baseball players right now. That seemed to have this electric quality. More than anybody. Else vlad guerrero junior fernando totti's junior and shohei ohtani. The other two guys are making money. If i recall correctly tim shohei..

"A couple of things in golf because we're going to get to the basketball game. Would tim legler later. When we're going to get to the all star game in the circumstance surrounding shohei ohtani with tim kirk later so i wanted to start with the golf. Not with the phil. Mickelson golf yet. That'll be the majority of this but not with that yet. I want to start by inviting people. Anybody who's listening and anybody who's going to be in washington next week in fact. I think it's starting this weekend. The twelfth writes a twelfth. This monday i started sunday by. I think it's the i think it starts monday. So columbia country club is going to host a major. us g. a. event. It is the national girls championship. It's the girls m Seventeen and under. I believe seventeen and under eighteen years ago They hosted the boys. Seventeen and under that michael tried to qualify for and played in in an early round and this will continue. Don't in by number four. i believe double-bogey in the first round. Do you remember that. Yeah so This will long never go along for. This will continue for a week. It will be on television. The semi finals on friday and the finals on saturday. They'll be on the golf channel. I wondered if sands was going to be involved but sands will be at the british open. So he will not be involved. I don't know who's doing the telecast who specifically is doing it cheyenne woods is one of the people doing it. We last night. She was at the match last night. she's one. She's tigers cousin. I believe cheyenne woods and a professional golfer herself. If i have this correct so it's the junior girls. It starts out where everybody plays eighteen holes and then they cut to sixty four. Is that how that works. And then the matchplay begins. It's free you can come out to columbia if you don't know where columbia is. It is at the intersection of connecticut avenue and east west highway in chevy chase maryland. You can walk are beautiful course. You can look with revulsion at the purple line as gouges through our beautiful course And you can watch these girls play. They're gonna play. I believe they're gonna play from the white tees mostly from the white tees the other day in a qualifying round the best three scores. I was told with seventy two seventy three seventy four from the whites. I never approach that. And i said oh i guess my son can still beat them but it would be a match. Would it be a good match. That'd be asking for shots yet. I try and take advantage of the lane that i still have. Yeah but what's your first question. I think he could beat these fourteen year old girls. Do you remember when you were a fifteen or sixteen year old boy and you played against or we were going to play against jessica lewis who is a little bit older and ended up. You know as a professional golfer. She was a great golfer. I think at one point. She won the maryland open. Jessica lewis and mallory. Crossland are the ones who come to mind right away and you wouldn't tell me you were not nervous about playing with somebody. Who was that good nervous. More more about her being that good and and yet she hit the ball. Hardwood so great when you're competing like that doesn't matter what tease you're playing from as long as it's the appropriate and that's what's so great about golf and what you saw implement and charles talking about last night is you can get into golf and play from the appropriate tease. I delay with a female collegiate golfers. You're a high school boy looking up trying to get to that level yourself. Yeah and so so. That's that will be out there. The young lady who led the us open for two rounds is going to play in this. I've i'm blanking on her name. But she's about to become a freshman at stanford and she had all those wonderful interviews after the first two rounds and seemed so tremendously composed. So that's going to be out there. I'm told that. I don't know if this is true. Maybe you would know. Michael family is not allowed to caddy interesting. Yeah i was told that. But i'm not certain about that. Wouldn't be sure about that. That's tweeden's going to caddy. Of course he is going to go out and caddy for this thing. Oh yeah he definitely has the psychological advantage when he when he's given the young competitors lines on the ground at all. He's played at ten thousand times. We now i believe we act forest out of the money and akbar eight is going to be open for the tournament. Oh so joy insurgency george. He'll be out there and you should say hello to them. And you should say they're getting towards undisclosed location. Yeah that's right you can do that. We know where that is. So we were the other day. Arch and courtney and pete and i. We were sixty one. We were nine under and we didn't even get shop credit. We didn't get shop credit on nine under. We missed michael. Because michael was there we came in second and one hundred twenty five dollars in shop difference. So it's at columbia country club. It'd be all next week. The admission is free. I don't know about the parking. I mean. I don't know if they're staged parking and satellite areas. I don't know that but by all means come out and watch these girls play because they're going to be playing in college and some of them are going to be pros after that because there is the national junior girls. Championships is big deal right. Michael all use jason sarnia the chance to watch history in the making. This is a big deal. Now let's get to the match. Last night phil mickelson now and i am advised that he won the pga. And i'm so happy he won the pga but phil mickelson basically for the last three or four years is in the phil mickelson business and much of the phil mickelson business is to play in these trumped up entertaining matches that he sells television and he says i'm going to get three people to play with me once. It was tiger. Wants his peyton manning a couple of times now. Tom brady last night. Aaron rodgers and he sold it to turner and they put charles barkley. And larry fitzgerald out there. I larry should play last could play. He should play and they and phil mickelson his in this business as he gets ready for his next business which is to be the sole and only golf commentator on television phil walks around an independent contractor just floated you or anyone. You want me on a sunday. Here's here i'm settled. Do three to five if you want me for the last nine. That's a higher price point but we can make it work. Yeah jared yeah. And plus and talk to jared and everybody needs to wear my long-sleeved shirt semi sunglasses and everything only be drinking. Coffee fills coffee filters remarkable if you watch it and he says things like so. I need about a fifty seven yard shot. I want to put a little bit past the pin. I want to suck it back a little bit. So i have the uphill on i. Practices about forty thousand times and he goes back and forth with the shambo. Who is the only person on the tour who understands him to shambo. Does the same sort of thing. It's all mathematical to shambo physics and mathematics and it's fascinating and then barkley. I think spoke for all of us when he said. Do you really wanna go out to dinner with these guys. W telephone going right with these really really. These barkley had the best line of the entire night when he said of tom brady. Tom brady is a pretty good barney. Said it to him. He said tom. You're pretty mad. And then and then brady who loves barclay because everybody loves barclay brady then talked about his competitiveness and how he felt you know that he he got to everything sort of late and wanted to outward. Everyone you're improv. I loved that in terms of the first half of the round which was the only watchable have because at a certain point. Even i turned it off cockpit alternate-shot trying to pull three what i can't do this hour to. They figured out the camera angles and it felt like this. I'm sure well it felt like a confessional almost with braiding for somebody who is so calculated in terms of what he messages in a post game presser. It was just really rewarding. If i imagine if i was a kid seeing tom brady with the amount of success. He's talking about having dow work. Everybody you've heard that message a thousand times but you have not seen it done in such an intimate setting and part of that is the pads are off the helmets off But you come back to you..
