And now popular songs are being covered as the sea shanties, namely, smash mouth singing All Star and so we need to bring that to you and ask, of course, here on the show. Is this annoying? Or is this awesome? Also later on in the show, Don Beebe is going to join US wide receiver of the Buffalo Bills and the Green Bay Packers when they made Super Bowls back to the nineties. Two of the four teams that are still playing, so we'll talk to Don Beebe about the championship weekend go down memory lane with him. But let's start this hour in Knoxville. Jeremy Pruitt is out. Tennessee fires the third year head coach. Last night. Made internal investigation into recruiting violations. The university and the anti double A investigating alleged recruiting violations within the program. Tennessee is a school has retained a pair of lawyers to aid the investigation. So Tennessee has brought in lawyers for this. Because he's being fired for cause Tennessee will not pay his buyout clause, which is $12.8 million. $12.8 million, Okay? In the termination letter to Pruitt. The school released this letter, and it read your failures are likely to lead to significant penalties to the university. Has jeopardized the eligibility of our student athletes. Again. This letter is pretty damning, pointed the finger approved and saying You're a disaster. In the wake of this Phillip Fulmer, the legendary head coach there that won the last Tennessee National championship back in 1998. Is also out is a D After just a short couple of years there Tennessee plants to hire a new athletic director first. Process that Phillip Fulmer apparently will partake in ISI bridges the gap Now there's these alleged recruiting violations from assistant coaches on the staff. That are not necessarily tied directly to Jeremy Pruitt. But the school is saying, this is your staff. You need to be in charge of it. And so once again, Tennessee finds itself in the middle of chaos. And disaster and controversy and my first my first instinct. When I saw this story, my first reaction was Man again. Again. A couple of years ago, I had a chance to go down to Knoxville as I talk about regularly here on the show. I'd like to pick out one college football place to go to every single year that I've never been to two just experience their culture, their pomp and circumstance, their experience, and I love it. I mean, college football. I just love for that reason. My trip to Tennessee, which is a nomad episode was one of my favorite college football trips, and I did it solo. Normally I go to these places with a friend or multiple friends that weekend. Nobody else could make it and I said, I'm still going because I was actually invited by the school to come down there and experience a game on the sideline and tour the facilities. That included the Peyton Manning room, which is looking over the practice facility with all this awesome Peyton Manning and Knoxville, Tennessee of all. Memorabilia, which you know is right up my alley. I got to see the training staff for the weight room rather and the training rooms and stuff like that, and Got to tour the facilities of the stadium, and it was, you know, awesome. I mean, that's one of those things that I pinch myself when I got into this position that I still get to do and go. Wow. Can you believe this? I mean, those are the things that I really get a kick out of it arise out of I got to have beers with ball Navy, which is the boats, the tie up. Right along the Tennessee River outside of the stadium and being inside Neil and Stadium, you know for a Saturday game day in the fall is a freaking amazing experience, and I got to meet so many great people evolves. Fans die hard balls, fans that I just had such a great connection to an appreciation of And in fact, I had always been around Knoxville growing up because my family actually caravan down or at least we brought this. The old 1990 Chevy Suburban Down to Dollywood. Dolly Pardons. You know, amusement park in Pigeon Forge, which is not far away from Knoxville. So I always saw all of the volunteers, flags and Tennessee block teas and always got a kick out of it because we were around it so much when we go down there, and we went down there multiple times when I was growing up. So I always you know when you see on TV 100,000 people in checkerboard, orange and white and you see The experience. It's it's mesmerizing and yet Tennessee program has been so mediocre or below mediocre for so long. And it appeared that Jeremy Pruitt might be a decent higher because by year two we started to win, and then it just kind of all melted away in the last year was three and seven. They were Utter disaster, and they can't fix the quarterback position. And Tennessee just once again cannot get out of its own way with its coaching hire. Jeremy Pruitt had a couple of scandalous moments as well. And so it just kind of felt like there was always something. And if you remember how Pruitt got the job, originally Tennessee wanted to hire Greg Siano. And there was the huge outcry and mob mentality with the pitch force that they could not hire Greg she Otto, because He was somehow tied to the Jerry Sandusky Situation slash show paternal back it at Penn State, which always seemed like a bit of a lark, because The Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL. Hired him and he was part of that, and Rutgers had hired him. And he was part of that. And now Rutgers had hired him again. And he was part of that and other NFL teams had hired him and he was part of that. And yet the Tennessee volunteers absolutely refused. It felt more like the volunteers. People that spoke out thought that they were better than Greg. She Otto and use that as the reason the excuse to rally and say, no, don't know. We can hire a guy like this because had great shadow. Been a bigger name. Had he been urban Meyer or Nick save in or something like that? And he had ties to Penn State..

Jeremy Pruitt Compares Tennessee to 'Titanic' After 2 Players Leave Team
"The biggest story of the year to date in the SEC has been in Knoxville where Tennessee inexplicably has begun. Oh into Jeremy PRUITT. You heard a minute ago at his press conference but the biggest story in Knoxville today wasn't what he said at his press conference but what he said at the UH the Knoxville quarterback club John Adams joining US longtime columnist in Knoxville Knoxville John. Thank you for being here. Let's start with the the line at the the the quarterback club where he I'll let you fill in the blanks but he made some reference to the titanic good afternoon. Call I it should be in a coaching handbook somewhere where to a message to a struggling coach never bring up the titanic because we know how that story ended in Jeremy Pruitt with speaking to the quarterback club today. I wasn't there but he compared Tennessee to the titanic but he was relating it to a couple of players. quit the team last week. neither one was a prominent player they quit the team to loss to Georgia. Stay in. He compared that to the mice on the titanic running through the top of the ship which I think is a pretty good idea if I'm about I don't want to stay down there to bottom and drown at least get up to the top and maybe jump off if the boat and freeze to death but that seems like a better ending to me but I it just shows a lack of savviness so I think you just don't want to bring up the titanic padding because when people think about that Tadic they don't think about my think about an iceberg and people dying so I thought it was really odd. I I always thought they were rats too. But what do I know the difference between mice and Rafael you say my or I say my. Can you say rat so yeah okay. I thought it was too. That's it's getting a little too. Maybe maybe Jeremy say such a student of literature he was thinking about Steinbeck and of mice and then Maybe ending either by the way because of my thing coach okay. Let's get to the real the real crux of the issue John. I didn't think you would be in the situation where you're writing columns that people are studying examining trying to figure out where we're this program is and and she is a change imminent. I ask you I mean how bad is it. Where does this program go from here well. I I mean I think this is the worst right and there's been a lot of bad times he'd go back to two thousand and eight when Tennessee lost to Wyoming in a foreign aid. UCLA team and that's he's Got Phillip. Fulmer fired his coach but but to me despite what is what all is gone on coaches haven't lost two Sun Belt Conference team Georgia's state. It's a program that's ten years old and it's picked to finish near the bottom or at the bottom some of the sun belt. East so then the follow up that with a shocking loss the nature of the Paladin folded there the end to at best a mediocre a yoke. Byu Team MANHANDLE IN THE SECOND QUARTER GETS IN THE SECOND HALF AGAINST UTAH so no. I think you're at the bottom and I think it's fans. You can't help but look ahead and you wonder how can finish C. D. C. Gay okay you expect it to be Chattanooga this week an FCS program but beyond that you start looking at thank who'll Tennessee beat and what happens if Tennessee is one in six and I think that's a a reasonable projection at this point in Tennessee is one in six. How many people are showing up for these Games aims. I just think it would be a really bad look and it would be the critical stage program with day and it starts this week. noon game against Chattanooga. I I haven't

"Now, the let director Phillip Fulmer as coach show. We are. So happy to have you here as we remember the incredible legacy of coach, Pat summitt, good afternoon. And thank you for doing this. This is a wonderful tribute to fat and all that she meant to so many across the country and round the world. And especially here at the university of Tennessee in Knoxville. I remember I know you do as well just when, when she got started, and she didn't have much going forward, but she made up for lost ground in a hurry. What, what do you remember about your first interaction with, with Pat summitt? I remember it. Well, I mean. A young head coach. And I was a young assistant used to jog together and are in, you know, different things that were going on, on campus, just became great friends. And you know, never knowing that actually work hand in hand, whether crediting and, you know, representing the university, and all those kinds of things she was such a competitor, all the here about her that way, is, is true. She fought for, you know, for women's rights and the opportunity for, for women in athletics on the local scene, steak seen national scene and worldwide I mean, she she believed in followed through their beliefs with, with their actions, that was, Pat. Summitt also very gracious lady, she was not at all self-centered always about the people around her that she loved and cared for, and you know, or players and, and actually was fun to work with people. Sometimes think, well, you can't have great football basketball women's athletics. It's all at the same time at the same school, we did you know, because of her efforts. And, and being around, you know, we had some success for of our own, and we helped each other recruits, all the time, time, Sammy's. We come in, and yeah, hey coach. That's all great and everything. Sylvan. History. And all, but can we make pets? He was always available. You know, and I tried to do the same for her. No, I know you did. And of course while she was winning national championships. You were able to win one as well and compete for several others. And I think they seem to fall around the same time, if I remember correctly and she had a couple. Yeah. She kind of lead the way every then. And she slyly reminded me of that. But yeah we did we won one the same year. So it's ours was the same years, one of hers. I guess one of our seven. Yeah. No. She had a couple in a row. But you, you, you were certainly in serious contention a number of years as well as she was doing that. I want to go back to that moment in time because she was winning I think three national championships in a row. You you're on the verge of winning one. You had Peyton Manning on campus. I mean, what a special time on rocky top. No, it was. And you throw in, you know, Bruce, Pearl for a period of right? Exactly. Great time, all of our friends, we work together, we, you know, we have to care of engines summer, but, you know, we spent social time together as, as a mentioned, we helped each other recruits, and, you know, we're all cared about our campus in our city because, you know, we knew or at least we thought we were going to be there, you know, for a long time, most of worse. So it was a special time in Tennessee athletics. And you know, in patents the center of that, if you will. Gosh, you know, people tell I'm sure you will do your time talking about her. But she came from, you know, washing the cause of the players and driving van two games. And, you know, just a menu budget, you know, to get things done to, to what she became you know. And, and in the in the sports world, not just women's sports world. But in the sports world, you know, breaking woods record and. All those things..

"The Seattle Mariners, and I did a double take, and I realized that is not kosh war. That is Dan Vogel Bach. So in your spare time. Look up pictures of the two of them. They look like identical twins like seriously, the even kind of bat. Similarly. They're both hit from the laugh handed side of the plate. Dapo ganger 's. One more thing on Peter Lambert, just to tie. Nice little bow around a great day for him on the mound. The last pitcher to have nine strikeouts. And one run in his major league debut at Wrigley field was Dutch Ruether in nineteen seventeen. Fun fact. Reuther was the first Cup pitcher ever to debut at Wrigley, which was then known as something else. But. It's been a long time since a rookie has made his debut in pitched as well as Peter Lambert today, did at Wrigley two eight six zero zero four six we go to the text line here in response to the idea that maybe Peyton Manning is trying to get in on the Broncos ownership group. We get taxed PFM could fire Elway and take over as general manager. For many Broncos fans wouldn't that be just the best thing that Peyton Manning could do? But like I said, I just don't think Peyton Manning wants to grind like that. You know, maybe maybe. He's getting, you know, keep your friends close enemies closer. Maybe he's hanging out with Elway because he is going to own part of the team. Any is gonna fire Elway but I don't think that he puts himself in that job. I think if Peyton Manning really wanted to be make personnel decisions for an NFL team. He would've already had that opportunity. I don't think that he wants to. But I think he likes being at NFL stadiums being around NFL teams having a say in things, so I wouldn't be surprised if sooner rather than later, Peyton Manning buys, a piece of an NFL team. And why not the Broncos? And I there's no there's no downside to this at all. I mean I'm not bringing it up to say this would be terrible. This is is a good thing. This is clearly someone who still loves the franchise. Still wants to be around it. I think that's only a good thing. And you know. Pay manning is untested as an executive. But if you believe that anyone will have kind of a calming effect on whatever bowling takes over. You know, it doesn't hurt to have a guy like Peyton Manning who knows a lot and can have some sage advice. So it's a good thing. I want it to happen. But it is interesting thing to think about wheels thinks that pay manny's go higher. Phillip fulmer. We might do that David cliff too. Trade for. You. I. Cooper gets to be Dave Logan's partner on the radio broadcast. Now the more I'm saying it the more I think that maybe it's not a good idea. Vic Fangio, what a, what a fun loving guy Vic Fangio is man. What a hoot apparently he canceled practice today, and they're doing like. Hoop shoots and putt putt, bowling and all that kind of stuff. So close is all over it. Drew lock did well in the basketball portion of the field day, that big Fangio has the Broncos on. Oh, by the way about six other teams in the NFL today are doing the same thing go in and look seriously so Vic Fangio's not on the cutting edge. But good. You know. Good for them. Have a day off. Go have go have some fun. But before they had the field day Vic, Fangio answered a question about the Broncos running back situation. Of course, Philip Lindsey was fantastic last year. He's recovering from an injury, though. So we haven't seen him out on the practice field as of yet, they spent a pretty high draft pick on Royce Freeman. They got some other guys in the building and Vic Fangio was asked whether he is a Gary kubiak white guy and likes that bell cow back or if he's, you know more about running back by committee or having a tandem. And Fangio said to me, that's whatever your team is John Mannion used to say if you've got more than two running backs that means you don't have one. You like it's kind of been common now for teams to have different style backs multiple playbacks. Again, I think that's whatever fits, you or fits your team. Team. And you look at the Broncos running back situation. I think you have to say. As much as you'd like Philip Lindsey to be. The bell cow back for the Denver Broncos. I don't know if he can be, and I don't wanna ruin white. You have with Philip Lindsay by giving him a ton of more carries. Now. There were plenty of times last year where the play calling as we all remember was terrible, and they should have given Philip Lindsey more carries in that situation. But I'm saying to go from. A less than twenty touches a game to twenty five thirty is a big jump. I'm just talking about a third down here and there letting Philip Lindsay or on first down lending Philip Lindsey run the ball. Now, part of what made Philip Lindsay special last year was his lack of.

Swamy is up next how swimming, hey, Paul? Thanks for taking my call. Okay. I'm going to try to defend my riffing. But I'm gonna try okay. Now, I do think the community got it right last year. But I think my try I think, you know, the committee does have a bias. And I mean, most people are just you know, just fund raisers anyway for the schools in the power five. And I mean, especially in basketball. I mean, you ask you to mid major team. We're not that what we're talking about here. Okay. But I think football's a little bit more legitimate than the best. I don't mean interrupt, but we're we're talking about Georgia and football. That's that's all that matters in this conversation. Okay. And, but you know, it's fun. We've been on hold. I mean over here, you know, kind of shining. My crystal ball, and I do think that George is going to win at this year. Well, he has until it gets to the big game agree with you there. But I think it's Barnes. I think it'd be a volunteer for life now. And there's one other thing when I what how did not thought she was broke. I mean, I I'm the work, and it'd be thinking about getting JIMBO and all this other stuff. That's a good point. I mean the governor two years ago, so they weren't sure they can have an outlet program. Okay. Thanks for taking my call. Thank you very much. Let's check in with David next in Georgia. Hey, david. But oh, you know, why didn't Joe leave do something in October? He had all Bevan's right in front of you know, that's a good. That's always a question of wondered because. I mean he called in. We'll wait. And you must've asked him one question is is any of this true? And Wade said no that's not really what you're supposed to do. You're supposed to you're supposed to make sure investigate yourself conduct an internal investigation and find out if there's anything to it. And I also have a hard time believing that a leave oh had not heard of some of these allegations in the past against will. Wade. Exactly. I just like I said if we know it's never do wrong never road to do right of always been in my book there. But I mean, you just pay sustain head on October. You've got a great team great talent. And you know, in my opinion, it's a lot a lot. Like, you said, I mean, that's like if you were with somebody, and they basically told you, you know, I would have went with this, you know, better looking more muscular guy, but you know, he didn't spoil me as much. So I think I'll just stay with you. Instead since you're the one that gives me more money, the I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna leave my wife for a wealthy woman. And and then she at the last minute. She said, listen, I'm not gonna pay for your divorce. So I'm gonna go I'm gonna go back home and say, you know, what I think I'm gonna stick around a couple more years because I mean, I the thing that gets me the most I mean, we've all had thoughts like that. He's one of the first people in public life. That's ever told the truth here, which I do admire, but I don't know if it was really too smart to say. I mean, just some stuff's better less said, Paul, you know, you lock it. If a woman said, hey, do I look fat. Exactly, you know, E if you thought she did you still you don't say that I've had that happen. I mean, I'll go ahead. And you know, how many times is it's happened to me my wife, would you like this dress, I go. Oh, yeah. It's great. I'm going are you out of your mind? But I'm not about to say that at seven fifteen in the morning. Letter glitter. I mean, she's smart letter dress. However, she wants to now, by the way, she'll tell me if I look stupid, but that's that's a different story. And also what I thought about Paul was how it of route Barnes. Locked Phillip Fulmer got up there. His press conference have been like. Yeah..

"Don't you Ernie is in Mississippi, Ernie go right ahead. Hey there. Good afternoon. Good. I I heard a I guess I read a story here a couple of weeks ago. I don't true or not. But it looks like that the southern miss is unhappy being in this and see USA, okay hair Li I guess, I don't know if this is true or not. But when way in two lane got into the AFC a lot of people thought it should have been southern miss. And apparently what the report said was the AFC is reconsidering their choice of two lane and possibly thinking about maybe bringing southern miss, and I don't know if it's the next round of expansion. I don't know if you've heard anything about that. But, you know, I'm I'm guessing that they did that for the wrong reason, they did it for television, which to lane does not have any television following, you know, the basketball program was a mess. The football program has been like that for a long time. I southern misses a really good athletic department. So. I think they would be a good complement to that league. I totally agree with you. Yeah. I I would the only reason I say that especially the last couple of years basketball teams gotten better. But the other thing I was I was calling it about was as far as Tennessee football. Which is what I follow as well. Is there any reading I guess you see on going forward as far as irony? I hate to interrupt you. But we I I really do, but we have to go to Knoxville the press conference right now. Introducing the new women's basketball. Coach Phillip Fulmer who made the decision is at the microphone here with Our Lady vol basketball program as we began this process to find a new women's basketball coach. Many of the coaches that we were talking to about the job. Referred to the lady Volve basketball program with reverence. Lady vol basketball is the mecca the Genesis. And the mother of modern women's basketball in our country. It was very clear the beginning that we had to find a person that truly understood the foundations that Pat summitt and our pass lady, vol coaches and players had laid here at Tennessee. We have an amazing brand that resonates across the country. We needed to find a person to support and grow our young, ladies, academically, socially, and athletically. Tune essence be a second parent. Kellie, jolly Harper cares. She's an excellent communicator and will grow our young ladies, we needed to find a person that will recruit as we have in the past at the highest level. And develop our young ladies into a real team. Not just a group of athletes. Kelly demands, respect and care. And once they Joe wants people to care for each other..

"And you know, we'll see I don't think this is a bunny to say, I don't think it has anything to do with how much did make you. So I think if he does not UCLA's without him finishing his career at a traditional we've blah UCLA, which depending on what your definition is of the top five or top six job. I think most people traditionally would say UCLA. Is right there in that category. But to finish his career are Enright one more chapter and see if he could do it at a place for football's king because keep in mind, he's never really coach anywhere. I'm square basketball's king. He's never coached anywhere rabasca than keen, Tennessee, Texas, Clemson all places that have been football century. Let me let me I should Chris because everybody today has a friend of a friend who knows something that that the probably isn't true. But. People are trying to come up with a narrative that something is not perfect at Tennessee. And that's a little hard to understand. I'm not living there like you are. But what's your best guess on? Rick Barnes relationship with the administration and his overall attitude toward being there. No. I know I know he loves to live in east, Tennessee, another for fact, I've had conversations with people in Tennessee. Is it ever perfect with your administration? We day. I don't I don't know that it is. I think with Phillip Fulmer such a football century guy in that's Phillips background. And that's let's face it at Tennessee, typically football, right? Nothing's right. And had been right for a long time. I think that's been his focus after a basketball coat looking at it. From the basketball coaches perspective, certainly weren't it's come in and made basketball nationally, relevant in, you know, I I don't know how that looks to a basketball coach, I don't think there's any real tainted between Rick bars until I think probably there's been sinks. Rick has voted, you know, with staff in has it been up with getting easily is maybe you would like to or any basketball like to multi your contract stuff like that. And I think at a place like UCLA basketball Centric place, like the LA those type things would not be applauded. But I don't think there's any spoken Paul. I really don't. I think there's this is not everybody will look for that does decide to leave you go. Getting silly. But I think it's more about several different things Chris considering the issue of a buyout for Jamie Dixon. What can you tell us about Rick's buyout? And then is that going to be a deal breaker one way or the other? Well, it sounds like it was. With Dixon is being dollar file TCU is five Tennessee. I don't think it will be. I think that UCLA is all in them reports..

"Well, let me say I didn't like have a NASCAR viewing party. But I I I flipped over there. A few times time I flipped over there. There were twenty cars crashing that. We can making a big recall it brought up that point about them with stricter play and all the stages. I don't think I really liked the way that that fits has progressed. But you know, what can I say, I guess they have to arrange things in such way. Like, they're moving baseball than football into the millennial age to fit everybody's taste in requirement. Well done. Let's thank you very much. Really? Appreciate it. And appreciate your ruining my day. Suggesting I'd want something. I'm not wearing my heart on my sleeve Marin. No. Jeff. Chuck is up next. How are you? Chuck. Man, I'm doing great, Paul. Let me start off by saying I've just recently probably within the last year started watching your show, and to be perfectly honest with you up until that point really didn't care that much for you. Well, you know, every time I saw you up who's this guy who thinks he knows everything then I start watching your show. And I realized you know, quite a bit about sports, especially SEC, football and basketball. And and and I've just got a a a lot of respect for you. And your wit is just gray and some of your callers or great to some of them, not so great. But they're they kind of add the flavor to the mix. But where I'm coming from is I'm from Tennessee. I'm in my mid fifties. And not go back as with basketball to the Ray mirrors Stokely athletic center, Ernie Barney show seeing all those and and then football all the way back to the Bill battle days hunger Holloway. So sure go way back and seen a lot of a lot of change obviously and suffered a lot of part ache with the football program, and by the way, thanks. We're not put me on right behind the guy who suggested link and go to all. That about freaking out over that. But dear Lord, don't let me be right after this guy in by the way, over just say, no. But as far as Tennessee football, what an exciting time right now, one of the best recruiting classes that I've seen come in this year since the Phillip Fulmer days, I think Phil former was very underestimated as recruiter. He just went on a recruiter. He was. Right. And really good football coach just very steady kinda like mouth zone. Yes. He was a little bit predictable. But in those days having a grasp of the SEC and knowing how the game is won in the trenches. Just like it is today. Really hasn't changed that much. He just really understood would to to win. And I think we're so much back on that program and on that foot again, really good coaching changes this year. Good class coming in just exciting time to be a big orange fan. And and believe it or not switching over to basketball. Just briefly I kind of predicted what would happen in the Kentucky game. And and and I know it's easy to say. Now after the fact, but really my friends will tell you that I told them this was The the. scary game for us for a lot of reasons ever since you could kind of see this basketball team, which really has the potential. They're not great the Paul. They have the potential to be great. They really do. But you could see it especially at the Vanderbilt game at vandy were vandy really took them to the limit. Tennessee has has had this attitude when they play teams that they know they could be that they would just play well enough. And then they would turn it on just like they did with West Virginia. Just like they did with stuff Carolina. They would just turn it on and get that twelve thirteen point lead..

"But I'm telling you, what got the saving thing. We're gonna win a title. It's the same story. The reality is. They can't hire the kinds of coaches that can win they have to hire Dooley's and and Pruitt's and Butch Jones's because they're not the program. They once work. Listen, I I don't really know how to to skin this cat any more than we have Matt. We'll see in forty years if you're right or not and. And then I'm gonna be eighty years old and really proud of myself. I. Bye. You know, I watch you. Man. Listen, I feel like, you know, we have this unique relationship. So I'm gonna ask you one more time as a friend as a mentor to to walk to walk this back, and you see just just state right into the camera to coach Fulmer into coach Pruitt that you were just having some fun, and you're not being serious. What will you do that for me, Phillip Fulmer, I think is actually a wonderful person? I've met him a couple of times when I asked guy, I think, you will apologize you. Go ahead and apologize, man. Get get it off your chest. Phillip Fulmer, you're a wonderful person. They should've never let go view when they did back in the day. Bob kesling, and I are still upset about it. But I will. But let me just say you'll have a chance to win a basketball time. It wouldn't shock me. If it happened. You are not winning football title again. I love you. You're a nice, man. And the big orange swallow terrible. Hideous color is still a part of my childhood since I grew up on the border. I wish you the best. But you're not winning football title. Again, were those workers originals, really good. When you were all they were. So listen, I remember my grandfather now used to turn on the every Saturday we turn onto about Kentucky was never on because Kentucky suck. But Tennessee was and we'd watch and we'd root for the other team. And we knew Tennessee was gonna win. 'cause they always did at the end of November. I made the trek to Neilan stadium. I'd eat it that restaurant and cross the river and we'd go in. And we'd watch Kentucky lose by fifty. I Kennedy football is in my blood. It's like a little parasite that lives in there. But now the parasite doesn't hurt as much because it's not as powerful. And by the way, Kentucky's won ten games since Tennessee has which makes us feel better the way Matt we put up on Twitter. We'll Tennessee when another national championship in maj owns lifetime and three hundred votes are in and just a few seconds. And you seem to be winning this one so far. I haven't even re tweeted it yet. Great to have you on Matt thanks for the entertainment. You guys have a good weekend. Seriously. I do enjoy Tennessee basketball team, Admiral and grant Williams are fun to watch. Okay. We we we you'll certainly be welcome at the national championship parade. Nice guy. Yeah. We now. Great Matt many. Thanks toxin. Madge owns never disappointing on this program. We'll be right back much more to come..

"I mean, there's no way you can avoid getting big time recruits. Now that your program is at the epicenter of college basketball. I don't think it will change the way Rick Barnes coaches, which is the key on the women's front. Listen, I don't think Tennessee will beat Notre Dame Thursday to you know, it's going to be. And that game is in Knoxville. Correct. I think I think that may be the line of demarcation even though Monday night, probably was losing to to go. I mean Arkansas is a is a is a rising program. They have a really good coach who who who's gone to a final four. My. I think that's going to be. We're we're we're we're it comes to an end just in terms of any any chance of survival. And you know, I'm I'm not one that's going to sugarcoat anything. I don't think she's gonna make. And I don't think I don't think Phillip Fulmer Ken resist the the will of the of the of the Tennessee people who I think at this point realize, she's not the right answer. Do you agree with my person that that has been one of Philip's Gillies? But let me say this in defense of Phillip Fulmer, it's different being a coach then the athletic director. He knows what you'd steak he knows. He knows as well. As anyone how important that women's program is I think you'll be cautious because he's been there before. But I believe that he will make the call. And I and I'm just guessing I'm not there. But I think he'll call her in and find a graceful way out. And I think the best way out is for her to announce she's walking away for the good of the program as opposed to fighting in unwinnable battle, and I think right now, she's in an unwinnable battle, Paul. Can I I say? promise I'll let somebody else microphone indefens- Holly. Again. This is not an excuse worse. What six years into it now but a ball nation, including myself have to take a step back and understand all the the the the circumstances that she had to take when she took this juncture. I mean, you know, what she had to go through watching her friend her mentor. Go downhill, I won't listen. I watched my mom die of breast cancer. It's not easy on anybody. And I know Holly was right there on the forefront. And and I think that that's why she just giving been giving the latitude that she's been given. But after that on the opposite side of that has been six years, and you got you got elite talent there that's top ten in my opinion. And it's just not being coast up. So it's time to make a change. Hey, paul. Thank you so much for me the opportunity, I love your show. Thank you, take care. Now. Really appreciate we'll talk about that issue. It's an issue for those who were like going what's going on here? It's it's the passion of the Tennessee people. They care very much about that women's program that that is in one of its worst crisis is probably the worst. I'm in almost everyone's memory. Thank you very much for the call. Let's continue Gilly is in Tennessee Gilly, go right ahead. Morning noon. Paul first time first time caller longtime listener, and I just want to give you show shout out and thinking enjoy listened to it greatly. I got three things really I shout out to Rick Barnes can't say basketball doing a great job and the kids are just class act. So proud of that. So second thing is Holly. I'm afraid that she's you know, this is your six year, and she'll say, we're just too young. So it doesn't work. I don't think I don't think he does him. No, paul. But anyway, I was going to be able to shout out to the Alabama fans in into. I think what did they answer coordinator? Clemson did was watch the SEC film study like I did. And I saw to just give away all this keys in say is throws them field in this out patterns..

I'm reading up chosen your show to ask this questions because I know you take you go back in town. And I know you have a very good knowledge of the history of the SEC. And that's one thing. I enjoy from time to time when you comment on as far as the Tennessee basketball program. I want to kind of talk a little about both women's and man's and I'll start with the men's program. It's just I'm just having this conversation with some friends of mine this week just how we are of what the job Rick Barnes has done in a no, you gotta guess it's coming on pretty soon to talk about it. But the fact that the correct me if I'm wrong Paul, but I don't believe that there's a single five or four on this team right now. No, he's he's developed this team on his own. And so what's what's amazing baffling to me is what he's been able to do. And how stupid Texas must feel. They let this guy. Go. And what a blessing it is for ball fans to have this guy is to revitalize our our basketball program. Now, I started watching basketball the first year was seventy nine I think that's the year done to both first year think that they wanted to turn and beat Kentucky and overtime if I'm not mistaken that that is correct. Okay. And of course, they can peaks and valleys during that time. And of course, probably the biggest valley had to be in the nineties underway to wage Houston, and what the other Irish guys name. What was his name o? Kevin o'neill. Yeah. But but I just wanted to kind of get your opinion on what's Rick Barnes. You think going to do in the future is he gonna stick with this format or see going to mix it up? I know they got a commitment from a five star guy for next year's class. That's on the men's side. I'm gonna ask you this on the women's side how much more and how we'll fill a fomer. We'll Phillip Fulmer learn from his past mistakes in terms of his loyalty. I always said that his loyalty to his coaches is what got him in trouble. In the midst of thousands is his loyalty is longtime friendship to Holly. Is that going to keep him from pulling the trigger and making a change because I think the key. I think he's hollies lost the locker room he wa- if you want Paul if you watch that second hand. Not even trying. No, let me quick answer on the front part. I yeah..

But but I wanna thank you. Because when when when someone says something like that, it it it helps it helps all of this here understand that, you know, we're we're talking to a lot of different people in. I really appreciate that. Touches me greatly. Thank you, Paul. And I know you take anything anybody those. That's so you're you're good one. Thank you for saying about coach ball. You know what I loved about last night? And I watched that game. Not like a coach would. And I thought it was a great performance. But he found something to criticize afterwards. Didn't he? Yes. Eight eight new quits. I think he's a wonderful coach, listen, I I think Tennessee is heading toward quite a quite a Finnish in this March and April. Yeah. I do too. Thank you. Bye. Thank you. And you'd be well, thanks so much Jay in. We're thinking of you and hope you will continue to call him. I will. Thank you. Have you have you have enough? Thanks a lot. Greg is up next. Hey, hey, Greg. They Paul take my call. Thank you. So I can't you as a as a good friend. And you're the best at what you do. And I wasn't able to listen yesterday. We're in the process trying to sell house. You know, how that goes? But you know, as gotten older, I don't tend to sports sports becomes more entertainment and less about my life. And I may be in the minority as an Alabama fan. But you know, I've called since the show started up called you after wins and losses, and I try not to let either affect me too much. And in all I got to worry about this year is a loss in the championship game. I'm I'm sure there are thirteen other teams in the SEC that wanna be there. Well, yeah. I do appreciate your attitude though. Because and I think I understand you having gotten to know, you, y you have good attitude while some of the stone. Yeah. Because there there are as important as football as a relief alpha people there are so many other things that are much more important in you know, like being able to go to the White House. You know, I had proudly serving under four presidents some I didn't vote for, but I serve them all oily to the end. And so I'm more a political about stuff like that. Then then some people because in the military you're supposed to be it's about the office and not the person just as it is in the military. I didn't like some of the CEO's I served for. But I respect them because they wore the the they wore the inform, and they have the title and that came with a question. So anyways, I just thought it was kind of rich when Darryl. Suggested that Hillary supporters move on. I'm not a Hillary supporter, but he has moved on from all the Alabama. Oh, he's he's worried about the some some some officiating in the Georgia game two years ago. Right. So I thought that was kind of rich one of the things I don't know if it was discussed yesterday. But you know, he Martin didn't. He interview originally for the job at Tennessee and Jeremy passed on him to go. I'm pretty I'm pretty sure that is correct. Yes. So when I saw that he was hired in some capacity. I wondered how much of that was Phillip Fulmer and not Jeremy Pruitt. Well, you. Yeah. I I would I'm guessing here, but I'm guessing. Phillip Fulmer had a lot to do with that. Exactly. So I think you know, it's been behind the scenes, but I think, you know, Phillip Fulmer has his fingers in that program more than the average AD would that be a fair assessment? Well till fomer is that athletic program right now, Greg, and he has tremendous influence. He has great respect. He is the most important figure. I think on that campus right now when it comes athletes, we're up against the break. Many more many more calls many more guests well one more desk..

"But Jim Chaney sees challenge recognizes that Phillip Fulmer obviously made him feel very comfortable financially as much as anything else. I think you'll be the highest paid coordinator in college football with a three year deal with four point eight. Million. So great coach for Tennessee to have he'll do as much as anybody could do with their quarterback situation and to be fair to their quarterback. This'll be the fourth offense coordinator Tennessee's ad in the last four years about Jim Chaney, Georgia and certainly his records figure shelf there. There was always that stray fan who didn't like him who criticized his play calling in then. You wonder how badly currently smart want to keep him. This is pretty big number that they were going to have to match. So what's the story there? Yeah. All the above. There was obviously some criticism for Jim Chaney. I mean, look Georgia came close to hundred eighty one out of two hundred ninety plays. They were tied or led Alabama hundred nineteen out of one hundred twenty minutes. But but to quote, what to a tongue by law said the other night that five words good is not good enough. And that was where Georgia had been the last two years and in the minds of some of the George fans what Jim Chaney did. Here wasn't good enough. Obviously just in fields didn't feel like the offense was good enough where he was concerned and Jim Chaney was the play color. I'm not going to put that on Jim Chaney. But that was a dynamic situation on any unenviable situation for any coordinator to handle Jim said he thought that they did right of Justin fields felt otherwise he's now at. The Ohio State. I think Cheney did a good job with Kirby these first three years, but with the elevations of James Coley to quarterbacks coach and Cheney going to tight ends coaches last year. I'm not exactly sure what that did to the chemistry or. Jim Chaney felt about that. But I would bet that is probably first in line now for that coordinator job and probably one of the reasons why Kirby smart wasn't willing to match that rich salary for Jim Chaney would upset the staff harmony a little bit. You still gotta pay Sam Pittman the premium offense and wine coaching the country as well as Coley Coley, making eight hundred fifty thousand Pittman at eight twenty five last year, you know, Georgia's really struggling for money right now as well. My let me get to the overall Georgia program for second. If you don't mind because you know, the field situation there there's always been uneasiness about what's really going on there to lost opportunities. Great success, by the way. But but I'm really interested in what's what's going on there inside that building? Especially now with the opening on offense, which you looted to what about the opening on defense. Yeah. Well when Molko left or the head coaching job. I don't think it Colorado. I don't think anybody was surprised Mel Tucker is. Very overdue for an opportunity and had to take a job. He had several opportunities. But you just knew that sooner or later he was going to find the right one and head a chance to talk with him Monday. And I'll be really excited to see what coach Tucker does it Colorado. You're going to see some different things out there. I can tell you that. I don't think there's a real panic here. Again, you know, Kirby smart has tried to build this program, similar fashion. What Nick Sabin is done in Alabama. He believes in the staff that he has here Dan landing had an opportunity to go out there with Mel Tucker and be the defensive coordinator, and he stuck around here. So it almost makes you wonder if that linebacker's coach may feel like him and Glenn Shuman position to be co defensive coordinators. We've we've heard Derek Annesley's named kicked around a little bit secondary coach with the raiders he'd been in saving system of also heard him rumored for some big ten opportunity. So it'll be interesting to see if he gets a look, I don't think Kirby smart is worried though. And when I look at his roster, and when I look at his track record here, so far and the resources, it's. Pretty easy to understand. Why Paul I know that in the SEC it's all about SEC SEC SEC. But but I am curious..
