"Title welcome back prices a cure. The sub sewed one sixty one and continue our discussion on christ in philippians. Last time we talked about philippians two five through eleven. And today we're gonna be talking about christ in philippians from a broad perspective on phlippines So flipping to five through eleven. Kinda frames The center of the discussion. And so we can work with everything else specifically because flipping to five to eleven talks about the incarnation than the resurrection right And so this whole letters written post resurrection and so we get more of a cristaldi based off of what paul's writing in that post resurrection context. So whenever i think about it logically makes more sense to begin with that passage where it talks about the incarnation the crucifixion and the resurrection. And then move on to the rest of the philippines before we do that We're gonna talk about two issues briefly. First one is thank you all for supporting crisis cure. We're gonna be having more content. We had our first article. Put out Last week it was great by vernon and then we'll have more flowing out. It's going to be biweekly. Still hurts me. Rotating article podcast article. Gashes for a while I'm kind of juggling idea. Taking a break myself and letting other people will kind of take the wheel. Doubtful bam prepping for historically the asoka at this point in time. I'm still planning on having that be a thing. So i'm kind of mapping at up planning it which it's going to cost more money for hosting it's going to cost more time And so if you feel like you want to support that project consider becoming a patron For as little as one dollars a month you can help support All the things we have to pay for And so that's kind of go into the discussion about a website for historically because everything about organizing it's where you can search by time search by person by era right and have written up pieces here and there and i'm trying to figure out to organize all that mentally and how to organize the podcast to where it's coherent. It's going to be a slow burn. Podcast it's going to be a seasons..

Authentic vs. Phony Faith

"Christ having been offered wants to bear the sins of many will appear a second time not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him hebrews nine twenty eight. The question before us all is are we included in the many who sins christ bore and will we be saved at the second coming the answer of hebrews nine twenty eight years yes if we are eagerly waiting for him we can know that our sins are taken away and that we will be safe in the judgment if we trust christ in such a way that it makes us eager for his coming. There is a phony faith that claims to believe in christ. But he's only a fire insurance policy. Phony faith believes only to escape hail it has no real desire for christ in fact it would prefer if he did not come so that we can have as much of this world's pleasures as possible. This shows that a heart is not with christ but with the world so the issue for us is do we eagerly long for the coming of christ or do we want him to stay away wild. Our love affair with the world runs. Its course that is the question that tests the authenticity of faith. Let us be like the corinthians as we wait for the revealing of our lord. Jesus christ for strengthens one. Seven and like the philippians whose citizenship is in heaven and from it. We await a savior the lord. Jesus christ philippians three twenty.

"You would have The elites for example purchase Inscriptions statues bill call seems baths with inscription. Saying i am so gracious. I donated this to you in here. Are my titles. So that's that's kind of the picture. This week have happened on gravestones right whenever so on would die. There'd be like i here's my title title title title and this is my child who is titled title title is all about the titles all about the honor all about displaying that in gaining a name for yourself sexually our reputation for lack of a better term this is a very simplified version but basically these descriptions are well documented throughout the ancient world including phillipines so to summarize some of this on the subject of modern desilva puts forward. A couple of reality is that can actually inform the context of this world. So i he says that people from birth were trained to seek honor and avoid disgrace and shame. Second honor represents the primary means of social control and the ancient mediterranean world and lastly the honor is the affirmation of one's worth by one's peers in society within the context of the roman world ultimately mark one's identity the most crucial aways most prize social commodity. So here against the philippine now within philip by We have to understand that. Philip was not exempt from these ideals but it was actually an example of such by would become a roman colony and forty two bc and augusta's actually Much veterans there and low comments. That philip i joined other roman colonies with the special status of functioning under roman law. Low actually says that they are basically a rome away from rome. Philippian habits had full roman citizenship with the roman judicial system and with the prominent language rome latin being at the forefront of this colony so phillipines culture being heavily saturated in these ideas of rome made for social context that would actually be difficult to resist this replicated curse norm. The race for honors presence and philippine is actually displayed in numerous monuments and inscriptions. That are that flaunted status and saw honor now. This surrounded the lives of the christian community. And it's not a stretch to imagine christmas struggling to not fall back into these ideas because they a part of this before their conversion but also because of how promenade was so this in mind philippine operated heavily within this framework of roman ideals and especially within the context of voluntary associations because If we consider that christian group would be seen as a voluntary association and probably operates similar to one Because i mean it was a community based around a certain idea this idea of being christ and not only that but the naughtily population and philip. I was prominent the elite population with info philip. Why would actually make up two point five to three point three three percent of the population so given this replication of curses ideology within a associations Like we mentioned before with mithras. There's not a lack of threat for this ideology to keep coming back into the christian community and overtaking counter cultural ethic of humility and servitude. Right because we'll a minute In such a setting where this new community formed around the union of christ may be subject to falling back into this roman lifestyle competition..

The Rage in My Pelvis

"Pelvic region there is a hell of a lot going on. It's basically like a pre covid rock concept and all your organs at crowded pressed up against each other jostling for space. Your ovaries have fist. Pumping uterus is quivering. And the philippian tubes making devil horns on the sides up the back keep bowels and just busy listening out on the baseball abrasions. Well the plan is squished against the bar. Used to think about it being crowded these pelvic stadium rock show if one organ stumbles in the mosh pit. It can take some or all of the others down with it. Basically persistent pelvic pain can be caused by an array of different conditions. And even though you may not have heard the term. It's very common. Almost a million women in australia live with persistent pelvic pain. Michelle is one of them. It's excruciating like someone's stabbing enough. Well it does affect me daily. Have a lot of pain with doing so. I always wondering where the toilet is. You know what. It's gonna feel like when i get a really full bell that can be really painful. Michelle's thirty one and the rage in her pelvis started about ten years ago. In my early twenties. I decided to come off the pill to lead more natural lifestyle. And then bam the pelvic pain of started after came off the pill because from what i've learned the appeal was kind of keeping it dormant for all those years for me personally. My pelvic pain is mostly when i have sex a period pain and other kind of pains. But it's mostly with six. Oh with penetrative sex. If feels like a deep stabbing kind of shooting pain every time then my partner will have to run. Get me a hate. Pack in some some anti-inflammatories.

A Prayer to Renew Your Mind

"To renew your mind. Iran me roy. You don't copy the behavior and customs of this world but let god transformed me into a new person. I changing the way you think. Romans twelve to what changes when we surrender hearts. Jesus certainly not our outward appearance our income or the people in our families or at work on the outside we look the same so what changes the more. We give into the flesh. The more our lives stay the same. The more we yield to the spirit the more we began to look like christ. It is important to note that we cannot and do not change our ways first before we come to christ heart. Is we try. We do not have the power to do that. and i've got required that no one would be saved. Paul however instructs us to renew our minds. Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world but let god transform you into a new person. By changing the way you think hall knew that it takes his sincere desire to want to obey god to resist the lure of the world hence his admonition to not copy the ways of the world the same temptations we experienced in the past will come our way as new creations in jesus christ. We will face the same hardships deal with the same emotions and circumstances. What makes the difference is our sincere desire to please. God our desire. Fueled by god's grace and love makes real change possible philippians. Two thirteen says for it is god who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose.

Is The Sperm Race A Fairy Tale?

"Tell me a little bit about what you learned way back when about how conception works well. They showed us this video that described conception as a kind of obstacle course where the sperm little tadpole looking things and when they enter the vagina during this hostile environment. And they've done fight their way through all these obstacles and make it to the egg and the sperm. That reaches the egg wins. Kind of how it was told. Yeah that's pretty standard. It's similar to what i was taught to. And i spoke to lisa campbell angle stein. She's a reproductive bioethicist and she pointed out that we use really gendered language to describe this biology. She calls it a fertilization tale. So the sperm is this shining knight. Who's there to save the aig damsel in distress. And the sperm has all the agency the sperm is on a mission the sperm is fighting off other sperm to be the one to conquer the egg. Where's the egg is just sort of passively floating around waiting for the night and doesn't do anything itself. How does exactly what they told us. Yeah and lisa examined tons of textbooks at all levels from middle school to medical school for this kind of bias and she found some pretty wild stuff. For example sperm had this little hat like structure called the acronym textbooks described it as a motorcycle. Mean they could have called. It did horseback riding home at a ski how they could call the any type of helmets motorcycle helmet rights and that conjures up images of masculinity islanders. Tough guy weathers well clearly once again. The patriarchy finds a way but in this case. Isn't the story. exactly what happens. Biologically how it all goes down. Actually not at all. Oh no right. I am ready to go back to school. I want this post talk. Talk ariella let's do it. Only while buckle up today on the show go back to school to revisit the sperm race narrative and look at the ways that the edge and the reproductive tract plan active role in this process. I'm ariella zabidi. And i'm emily kwong. You are listening to shortwave the daily science podcast from npr. Alright classes in session. We're going back to school shortwave. School the best kind of school yes to learn about conception yeah and just to be clear. Today we're talking about this process as it plays out internally but a lot of folks conceived through the reproductive technologies like ibf. Yeah which are very cool. Okay just to recap. When i was taught conception in school it was basically described as a survivor style. Sperm race but ariella. You're telling me that this is a lie. yes yes. There are a few really big problems with this narrative when sperm i arrive in the vagina. They can't really race. I talked to jimmy heison. She's a biology professor at smith college. They don't have enough energy to make it to the side of conception. They don't have enough directional but isn't that what the cute little tales or for like don't the sperm use them to swim yet. Details do give sperm some swimming ability. But that's not a complete picture. The sperm are getting there faster than they could all on their own. And we've seen in rats and other mammals that even dead sperm can reach the lopion tubes so it seems like sperm. Don't rely that much on their own mobility. So are they getting their. The reproductive tract is bringing them along. Oh that is amazing. Okay how is the reproductive tract. Doing that so i talked to kristen hook. She's an evolutionary biologist. And she told me it's doing this tons of ways by changing the thickness of the reproductive tract fluid. Just like if we were swimming in a swimming pool with water versus a swimming pool of honey. You're gonna move differently in these different fluids or with contractions summer to contractions in your stomach after you've had a big meal or whatnot to move your food through your intestines so it's like the sperm are on one of those moving sidewalks y-yeah they're being transported along eventually reaching the philippian tubes. Okay and what happens after that. So the sperm. Start to move their tails more intensely. Which makes those pretty useless movements. We talked about earlier. More powerful research just that fluids in the reproductive tract kind of give the spur more energy. Think of it like taking a bath in coffee one. That's dreamy to the idea that the reproductive tract literally gives the sperm. Their strike is giving me strength right now. That is fantastic. I know emily. The official name for this process is hyper activation. Though that's riveting and there's even more the reproductive tract also has to prepare the sperm for one. It eventually meets the egg right now. The sperm is a little overdressed for the occasion. It's got a layer of stuff on that prevents it from binding the egg and molecules in the reproductive tract helps strip off layer so that the sperm is ready to bind. Ooh la la naked sperm. Okay and emily remember the sperm. Don't have is they have no idea where the heck they're going so the egg provides them with a gps it releases these super attractive chemicals that show the sperm where to go. Oh so it's like leaving breadcrumbs for them to follow. Yeah and you have to realize that philippian tubes aren't this straightforward path. It's really complex and winding there. There are tons of little crevices so without those crumbs. The sperm probably wouldn't know where to go. We were taught to think of it as a racetrack. Right but kristen. We know better now if you wanna go with a racetrack idea at least recognized that it's a dynamic race track so it's not like the german audubon. It's more like You know like more like a rainbow road where you have twists and turns and places to fall off and there are checkpoints that you get ask for your license registration and proof of insurance. I'm sorry proof of insurance. What does that mean honestly. That's not too far off from reality. And this brings me to may be the coolest part of all of this. Remember that hostile environment you described earlier. Yeah but you know. I was brainwashed back then in health class and i and i regret saying that because it sounds like the reproductive tract is actually far more helpful than hostile here. You totally but it is true that there are tons of obstacles along the way that seemed to be counterproductive. Like at one point these big immune cells surround the sperm and literally. Eat them. No that's terrifying. Yeah you don't want to be the sperm in that face off so it makes sense that you and me and teachers everywhere described this as a hostile environment but now starting to realize that these obstacles the actually have a purpose. It works to separate sperm. That are dysfunctional. From those that are functional works to separate debris that enters into the reproductive track with quotas and it separates the wheat from the chaff. Shall we say and then it takes what it needs or wants to the site of

"You. Each one of us is responsible to maintain peace in our lives as much as possible to be a peace maker. Now here's my. I'm gonna tell you and this is very important. We don't hear a lot about the anointing today. But when i first started coming into a really strong walk with god teaching on the anointing was abundant and the anointing is basically the the presence of god and the power of god on your life to accomplish something when you're anointed you might say your well oiled and there's a flow in your life. Everything's not hard but hard things become easy when you work. Under god's and with god's anointing november with me so far well to be honest. Because i've been doing this such a long time. I can pretty much tell within a few minutes. If god's anointing is on something or if it's not and if it's not. I just start backing off because i've live long enough to know that if it's not anointed by god you are going to be struggling and frustrated and fighting was something all the time and one of the things that keeps the anointing is unity. Some one thirty three says that unity. There's blessing and anointing and we'll go through the scripture a little bit later. But i really want to establish this point with you. That filipions is considered to be the epistle joy. Paul mention joy. I nineteen times in the four chapters of philippians and he mentioned the mind or thoughts sixteen times indicating that. You're not gonna have joy if you don't do the right thing with your mind and so we have to be very careful and wise how we think about people how we judge people. My goodness we are so bad about judging things that we don't know anything at all about we don't have any idea what that person's been through what they're going through if we would just make a decision to get along and especially in the body of christ. I've found out that everybody doesn't have to be like me from me to love them to get along a man so tired of people fighting over nit picky opinions. I mean does anybody really have a one hundred percent accurate translation of the bible. I just trust god as i read it and get the principals out of there that are life changing for me but if one person reads what it says and i corinthians twelve and thirteen about the gifts of the spirit and and they believe that want that and they pray for that and god blesses them those gifts in their life and somebody else doesn't wanna believe it. It's up to don't want to believe it. But i'm a spiritual hog. I want anything that god has. I want and if it doesn't fit into somebody's religion. I can't help that because we're all going to find out what we get heaven that none of us knew what was right. Totally none of us and so. How bad is that. You know unless we start getting along the world is not gonna be impressed by us and you can't even hardly find two people they can get along. Let alone a whole church full of people. I read a story that i hope was a joke about two people who got stranded on an island and they were both christians and so after a while they built a small little church because they wanted to worship together and before long there were two churches on the island instead of one and when they were rescued they said why do you have to churches for two people. They said well. We couldn't get together on our doctrine. Saw i go to this church and he goes to that church. So i'm going to ask you to do everything you can to get along within your family. Make keeping striped out of your family. Something that is very very important. Thanks for listening. Increase your joy with today's offer philippians a biblical study. "Teaching from philippians as i shared last night. I'm really trying to get people to understand the difference in just reading the bible and studying the bible. There's even a difference in use studying versus hearing somebody else. Just teach you to word. I can tell you this is important but your own personal bible study is actually even more important. We don't just need information coming at our heads. We need revelation and in order for that to happen. We must learn how to digest the word of god in a way where we're going to get the most out of it that we possibly can swallow your food whole. Are you just barely chew it. You don't get the nutrition out of it. Plus it usually gives you a bellyache. Because you didn't show you food right while you can look at the word of god the same way as you meditate on the word as you ponder it as you think about it. It's like queuing your food. And the more you meditate in the more you ponder the more you see and the more you'll get out of it. Just just doable test sometime. Just take a short chapter and actually pay attention to each word and just see how much more you see than if you just skim over it. So i've done a fijian's colossians galicians james and today i'm doing filipions. We started it last night. Today we're in the second chapter of philippians. Paul starts out in the first four verses and so if there is any encouragement in christ any comfort from love any participation in the spirit any affection and sympathy complete my joy by being of the same mind having the same love being in full accord and of one mind. So what do we get out of that. Well if we just read over it probably not too much. But paul is basically saying here so if you want to encourage me if you wanna bring some comfort to me if you want to participate in the spiritual work that i'm doing you have any real affection for me or any sympathy for me. The one thing you can do from me that will make me really really really happy. Incomplete my joy is if you will just get along so we're going to talk about a couple of really important things we're going to talk about how to get along unity and how important it is to the strife out of our lives now when i said. The words strives some of you. Don't even know what that word means. i had. somebody asked me recently. What is strives wall. Strife is bickering arguing heated disagreement. But it's something else that is very dangerous. It's an angry undercurrent and you know what an angry undercurrent is. it's when everybody is smiling at each other. Praise lord brother. Thank you jesus. But you're gossiping about them behind their back car. You know you really don't like them. I'm not surprised at all that. The world is not impressed by us. We as christians must lay aside our pride among our pride and our vanity and we have to learn to stop fighting in our homes in our churches in our neighborhoods in our schools about things that really when you take a look at it. And why the the artist so petty. So totally completely petty. You've been married more than twenty years or say who here has been married more than thirty years. Okay now how many of you can remember things that you argued about year. One two three four and five that you look back now and think how stupid only four or five people. That have been married. That long realized. I might have changed my message. I mean there's so many things that they've used to do that. Made me so mad. And now i think they're finding all those things that we drive us crazy about. A person is really what makes up that person and we love them as a whole but we try to pick apart. They do when we first started our ministry. God said i'm going to tell you three things i want you to do. And if you do on my blister ministry in every one of these was news to me. I didn't even really fully understand what they were. But he said do what you do with excellence. Be a person of integrity. First thing he said basically being a person of integrity means you keep your work so even in the very beginning what god put on my heart as if you've taken a speaking engagement from say a small church and all of a sudden you've committed to them but you get a huge opportunity to speak in a big conference. I want you to keep your word to the first people. So it's things like that from the very beginning from the foundation of our ministry. God was dealing with us about truthfulness and keeping our word and he said do what you do with excellence. I talked a little bit last night about excellence. Being an excellent person somebody who always goes the extra mile and being excellent are doing. Something with excellence doesn't mean extravagance some people think that they don't have a boatload of money. They can't do things with excellence. But all it means to be excellent is to take what you have however little that might be and do the very very best that you can with it even if you have an old car you can keep it clean and then if you're going to roll down your window your car window at a stop sign and throw your trash out. Get the fish off your bumper sticker and then if we would just follow one thing the bible says and we even call it. The golden rule book. I guess that phrase main. Hey this is like the most important thing and it basically is so simple it's as do unto others as you would have them do unto you. What would happen and a family are in the church is people would just treat other people the way they would want to be treated are not saying anything about another person that you would want somebody to say about.

"One anyway. I mean i've put things away. So i can find when i need them but do you think i can find them when i need them. No isn't that story. She told me absolutely amazing. So you might just consider if you're going somewhere. You're not getting anything anymore. Let's i love those guilty giggles. You're not getting anything anymore. Maybe you need to start asking god. Well maybe you're wanting to do a change here and you don't want me to go to get you want me to go to give come on. What was what was the last time you wrote your pastor a note telling him how much you appreciate all the hard work he does. When's the last time you gave him a gift card to take his family out to launcher. When's the last time you gave a single mom in your church. A- gift card and told her and take her kids out to lunch. Don't tell me that you want. God be show you what your ministry is. Sometimes people who pray that are just looking for a platform. There's opportunities to minister everywhere. You look all you have to do it and listen the reason why i'm telling you this is because you're going to have more joy honestly it is more blessed to give than it is to receive because nothing is better than joy. Come on paul talk about joy. Nineteen times this epistle. He wants people to be happy in verses. Seven and eight. Paul mentioned his affection for the people and how he holds them so close in his heart. I can honestly tell you. And i'm not just trying to say something cute i actually. I'm doing this at this point in my life. Because i love the people and i really really really really want you to have the live. That christ wants you to have a miserable center is one thing but a miserable saint is a miserable mess amen. I sold one us to live to glorify god. The church could shine so brightly draw so many lost people into a relationship with christ if they would just get ourselves off our minds long enough to look around us and realize that every you go there hurting people see. I'm talking about something you can do when you leave here. And then paul says i. Pray that your wildwood abound. Yep more and more. There's so much in that statement because you know what he's saying. They were walking in love and he told him he was proud of them. But he said i want your love to abound. He's he's saying. I know you're walking in love but i want you to grow in walking in love. One of the worst things we can do is get complacent and get satisfied with our stuff up. Pretty good no. No no no no. That's not it. I want to do better. Because i want to. Glorify god more. I want to abound in love. I really wanna learn how to love people. The way jesus loved people can any one of us that we really know how to give unconditional love. So much of our love is still based on how people treat us so we gotta keep growing. We gotta we gotta keep going. After the worst selling book that i ever wrote was on love made me so mad because it was about loving other people starting a love revolution in your own life. Thank you declaring war on selfishness. And say and i refused to live like this. I'm gonna learn what it means to love and we. We sold less of that book than any book that i've ever written well. There's a message in. that book. should fly off the table. We shouldn't be able to keep enough copies. But i could write a book on how to succeed or how to get every prairie answered on a little something for me. Matter of fact it's sad that aggravates me but our publisher tells us every title on a book has to have a promise in it for the reader are. They won't buy them see. I'm i long to see the days where people would buy a book called dying to self the crucifixion of flesh by it. Not a lot dying to self. That don't sound like much fun. The word abou- needs to exist in large amounts to be packed to overflow to be crowded with to be full of to do than you have to do. He wants them to have more knowledge and more discernment man. I could preach for an hour on discernment. We need discernment. Paul didn't pray for the people to get everything they wanted. He didn't even pray for our problems to go away. He prayed for what they really needed something a lot of times. I don't think we even know what we really need. We keep going after what we want instead of getting smart enough to ask god for what we really need. If nothing else just tell god. I'm not even smart enough to know what i really need. So god just give me what i need. What i want isn't what you want them. Please don't give it to me. Oh and then. He prayed that they would learn to prize and approve. What was expect people have gotten so sloppy in their morals and their manners and keeping their word. "Giving and love to give and make things happen to people. But i don't. I don't have a gift of health. So i have to do it on purpose. Just because it's not a natural gift for you doesn't mean you get out of doing it elo now actually. I am really into helps. But as i like people to help me really good on that but i i help other people on purpose and sometimes i will purposely do little seemingly insignificant things that i wouldn't have to do because i think it's good for us. Come on i said. I think it's good for us. Don't ever say well. I'm just a janitor. I'm just a clerk. You're not just an anything you're worth and value is not in what you do. It's who you are in price. And then so. He took off the towel and he wash their feet when he got to. Peter peterson ono. Lord you're not going to wash my feet. And i love this. Jesus said if. I don't wash you then. We have no part in one another so you can have a real relationship. If you don't do things for one another even in a marriage you have to do things for one another and if you do that it's going to help keep the relationship strong and it can't be a one sided relationship. Where one person does all the giving and the other one does all the taking. I've had those one sided relationships. And i've made my mind up about ten years ago. I'm not having any more those because that's not real relationship. Real relationship does not where one person does all the giving and another person does all the taking and we have to even be careful like approaching our bible teachers are our churches are pastors. That we don't always go to just get a blessing are to get a word. We need to go with a thought in line of not only receiving but giving who can i help. Who can i watch for. that looks. Lonely are who are is new. We don't always have to search for what's going to be the most comfortable thing for us but what's going to be a blessing to somebody else. Does anybody need this tonight. But you were bought with a price. So glorify god in your body you are the house of god. I am the house of god. God lives in here and he lives in you through the holy spirit and the holy spirit's main two titles are the comforter and the helper so if the spirit of god is living in us how can we not want to help. I mean i would say if you don't want to help anybody something's wrong. You might want to go back and check about your salvation. Because if christ is in us his nature is in us. we're going to be grieved when we mistreat people. We're gonna want to go back and apologize. We're gonna want to treat people good because we know that god doesn't like it. Mistreat his people. I'll tell you the truth. Good number of years ago. I got an understanding. And i have a reverential fear on me. Mistreating people it's just not something that god likes amen. You're awfully quiet out there. See i've got of the greeting even started. The drafter seriously likes what i mean about study. I mean if you study and if you have some good commentaries to help you you can learn things that you would have never thought we're in there just enrollments twelve. There's twelve different lessons in that. One chapter read it tomorrow and see if you can find them now. Paul also had timothy with him who was a much younger man in the lord and he was mentoring him in ministry. And so i just want to say to you. If you're a more mature christian you need to watch for younger. Christians that need more mature influence in their life and not only. Will you be helping them. But you will be helping your celled and mentoring doesn't mean that you find somebody that's going to ask you about every move they make and now you've got somebody to boss around all the time it means that you teach them not only by word but by example how they should live. Paul almost always started. Here's greetings with these this term grace and peace be unto you and boy. That's another i mean. I can get a four part series out of that because you can't have peace if you don't understand grace and grace has god's undeserved favor but it's also the power of the holy spirit in our lives to accomplish through us what we could never do on our own with any amount of struggling effort in other words. It's basically apart from me. You can do nothing. So if we learn how to talk to god about everything and ask him to be involved in everything to strengthen us in everything as i said earlier in the eggs or pray your way through the day god help me get my context in. I thought one morning. Oh that's silly. I don't need to pray about my contact lens. And i didn't and i like to never got them in my is i thought okay. God i'll keep praying. God help me get these in. Help me fix my hair as gone to help you in everything. That's just the ah nonnegotiable thing you need help and everything apart from me you can do nothing. And so paul said grace and peace be unto you if you live by the grace of god. Then you're going to have peace and your lies. Is that an act. Seventeen twenty eight for an him. We live and move and have our being while in him. This is about so much more than just going to church in him. We have our life apart from him. We can do nothing now is one through eleven would be the next group of scriptures that we would put together to study. And i'm going to read it and then do some teaching. I thank my god. All my remembrances of you always every prayer of mine for you. All making my prayer with joy because of our partnership in the gospel from the first day you heard it until now keep that in mind. There's such a lesson there. And i'm sure of this. That he began a good work in. You will bring it to completion at the day of. Jesus christ we like to pick out scriptures we can use them but if you notice here he says i thank god for you all the time. Because of our partnership in the gospel paul shared spiritual wisdom with them and they supported pollen his ministry. That word could be taken to other people and he said and meaning because of what he just said. I am sure that he who began a good work in. You is well able to complete it and bring it to its finished. And i believe that if we're stingy and all we do is take take take. We will reach a point where we cannot.

"How many people really think like that. I don't belong to myself. I belong to god now. Of course you can make your own decisions. You can do anything you want to. But if we really wanna get with god and have the kind of relationship with him that he wants to have with us. We have to stop thinking that we get to do it. Why do whatever i wanna do. Well yeah you can. But you're not gonna like the outcome. It's all about surrender and anybody who's going to have a real close walk with god. I can just tell you right now. You're not going to get everything you want. And you're gonna need to stay happy anyway. Come on wonder how long you'll live. You know when you're twenty. You think you've got all the time in the world you want this. You want that you want something kind of even afraid of the thoughts of dying because my gosh you've got so much to do and so much you wanna do and you know by the time you're fifty eight you don't think you'll ever be fifty but then all of a sudden before you know it you're fifty and you've done most of what you wanted to do and you've got most of what you wanted to have and then by the time you're sixty you realize that all those things that you wanted when you were twenty and thirty and forty aren't all that important after all and then when you get seventy rs seventy five plus. My thinking has changed so much. I just can't hardly stand to shop now. And i used to live in the shopping mall. I mean i would come home from a conference on right away. Go shopping by more stuff. More stuff home and now i'm like stuff annoys me. Is anybody here. Got an old enough that you've experienced that yet besides me. I don't wanna just bring more stuff into my house. And i've thought more about heaven in the last year than i have in the last seventy four years. It's kind of a strange feeling when you start realizing i mean i know i've got less than twenty years. Could live to be one hundred and fifty. But i don't really think i want to and there's nothing the world that's very all that interesting anymore. You could easily get depressed reading the news. People act so bad. They're so rude. Everybody's mad at somebody people aren't happy they murmur and grumble and complain all the time. And i'm just tired of all the gripe -i moaning groaning complaining people. I'd just rather go by myself and listen to a bunch of people complain amen. And i don't wanna be like that myself. I want to be happy. And i wanted to be a servant of christ and i want to be a blessing to other people every single day of my life. Time is short. In first corinthians six thousand nine hundred twenty said are. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the holy spirit within you whom you have from god you are not your own. Ooh gone back to this thing about servant hood from john chapter thirteen first seventeen verses our favourite part in the bible for me. It's where jesus washed his disciples feet and i love in the beginning. It says knowing ray came from knowing where he was going he put on a servants towel. So you can't truly serve if you don't know who you are because if you're trying to find out who you are you're going to think it's based on what you do or who you know or how you dress or how much money you have or what side of town you live on but when you really know who you are then even a leader can lay aside his leadership long enough to wash some feet and pick it back up and do what he's supposed to do. And that washing feet just basically signifies helping what does it mean to wash feet in practicality just to help us to help get up every day and just to want to help somebody. God showed me who i can help. Today and help can be financially. It can be to encouragement. It can be through. Give somebody a ride somewhere through babysitting true. Just whatever just helping people help and you know there's actually people who have the gift of helps and i don't have that gift. I have a gift giving a love to give and make things happen to people. But i don't. I don't have a gift helps. So i have to do it on purpose. Just because it's not a natural gift for you doesn't mean you get out of doing it. Hello now actually. I am really into helps. But as i like people to help me really good on that but i i told i help other people on purpose and sometimes i will purposely do little seemingly insignificant things that i wouldn't have to do because i think it's good for us. Come on i said. I think it's good for us. Don't ever say well. I'm a janitor or i'm just a clerk you're not just an anything you're worth and value is not in what you do. "So every morning like i need you to time shoes well. Do you mind if i get done with what i'm doing. I gotta go. I need you to time my shoes. I told him it's about time you tie them yourself because tomorrow. I'm tying them together now. Only dave and i would do this. But when he when he hurting so bad that we got tickled when he walked he was like and it can just barely moved while. I'm sorry but i had to laugh. I mean i. I didn't made it to be mean but it was just funny and i wouldn't tell everybody this but you guys are family. Dave was hurting so bad. Said dirty word fifty two years of marriage. I've never heard him do that. I call the kids. I said dad is cussing thought. I'm gonna wash your mouth out with soap. If you don't so i just want you guys to know i'm not just preaching this thing about being a servant. I have practiced this week. And i am the well-qualified now to bring this worden. Okay now seriously. I want you to pay a lot of attention to what i wanna say tonight about others and serving others and not being self centered or self focused are selfish. I believe with all my heart that it is impossible to be selfish and be happy. And i know as a christian doing everything that i knew i was teaching the bible study in leadership at my church. We were in church every time the door opened took part in everything and i just was not happy and i kept thinking it was this and thinking it was the and so talking to the about it. It's amazing what god will tell. You just asked him. I said why. Am i not happy and i heard back just as you're selfish. Do you know that christians can be very selfish and self-centered all of our prayers can be centered around what we want and what we need. If you're not careful you can even serve god supposedly but just in hopes of getting what you want. You haven't been able to get it for yourself so now you're trying to get god to give it to you. Come on would you serve god. He never did one thing you wanted him to do. It's something to think about. I don't like this idea. Just serving god because we have needs and we want him to meet our needs he does want to meet our needs and it's perfectly acceptable and you should ask god to meet your needs. But i think we need to not make that the central focus of everything. We do what we need to do. Is pray ask. God what i need and then the second thing to ask him. What can i do for you. How can i help did i. I wanna challenge you every morning. Ask god who. Can i help today and then you just wait a minute. Wait and see. Somebody's name will come to you a lot of times for me. It's just got put a certain name of my heart and i'll just call somebody and encourage them just. Hey i was thinking about. You thought i'd call your allston text want you to know. You're doing a really good job baby to. I sent a text to some guy in england that we know. 'cause i've been listening to some of this stuff online. Just tell them how good. I thought it was and how much i enjoyed it. And of course he takes back. You'll never know how much that means. Especially since it came from you because we love you so much you have no idea that you have the power to change a life and i wanna beg tonight to get your mind off yourself and onto what you can do for other people. Let see ourselves as servants. come on. don't look excited. How many of you could do more for others would well. I think it's time that we stopped teaching about things and start doing things a man so he calls himself a servant. But you can't serve god and not serve people see. I think that's the thing that is a shocking revelation. We think we're serving god because we go and sing some songs and put some money in an offering plate and listen to sermon but serving. God means serving people. Jesus is all about people. He's a lover of people and say paul news something that we need to recognize tonight and he knew that he did not belong to himself. He said i'm not my own. I've been bought with a price. You know what we say we are dame. Jesus bought us back from the devil with his blood literally. We were under the power and the deception of the devil was running our lives and jesus bought us with his death his blood and his resurrection and the bible says you are not your own. You were bought with a price. But i wonder.

"Cannot steal your joy if you won't let them for example when you experience a loss in your life do you focus on what you've lost or what you have left as you deal with people. Do you focus on. Their weaknesses are on their strengths. Most people that get divorced get divorced is because they have focused on. What's wrong with our spouse for so long that that's all they see but if he stopped them think about some of the things that you like that cause you to want to marry them in the first place come on one woman that agrees. I don't know about the every as you look at yourself. You focus on all your faults in your weaknesses and what's wrong with you or do you focus on the mercy and forgiveness of god and the fact that every day is a brand new day and his mercy is new everyday our joy or the lack of it speaks a message to the world and the bible says that we are the light of the world. Now philippians chapter one verses one and two paul and timothy servants of christ jesus to all the saints in christ jesus who are at philip by with the overseers and the deacons grace to you and peace from god our father and the lord. Jesus christ now normally. You wouldn't think that you get anything out of the greeting so we just read over the greeting and never even really think about what it says. But there's lessons just in the greeting here. First of all. I want you to notice that paul did not call himself by a fancy title. He said this letters from paul and timothy and our identity is servants of christ. Jesus hidden call himself. Wherever under bishop for dr not. I'm not putting that down in other titles of respect. And i think that's fine but i do think it's interesting that paul didn't call himself by any of those things you see. Sometimes when people get in a place of leadership. They begin to think more highly of themselves than they ought to and they begin to see themselves as the boss rather than a servant and i think anybody in leadership needs to talk to themselves every single day and remind yourself that you're nothing without christ and you're only in the position you're in because god put you there and he can take down what he put up. Nothing aggravates me. Worse than a preacher with a bad attitude man so servants of the lord. Jesus christ is exactly what we're supposed to be. And i wanna share with you that i had a very good opportunity to practice my servant hood just this last week and dave gave me that opportunity dave justice so kind to me. He makes sure that. I follow after the lord. Well what happened was he hurt his back. Of course that wasn't funny at all. But i mean he liked something just went out of place kind of like over here and he's fine now but i mean he. He couldn't get out of a chair for like thirty minutes and then when he finally did get up he had to lane on me. And i'm not just like big enough to really lean on as i've finally got him to the recliner and put it back but almost put it back too far and he was like well. Wait a minute ira. That was payback for something. He did to me one time. After i had surgery and he almost dumped me in the floor headfirst backwards but with is taking some believe he got some relief but he still couldn't do certain things so now i had to put on his on these put on his band put on his socks and issues. And tie your shoes well. He got to liking a little bit too much so in the morning he would say whereas my dresser so i now become dave's valette. He's still he can do most of now except tie shoes so every morning. Like i need you to choose well. Do you mind if i get done with what i'm doing. I gotta go. I need you to tie my shoes. I told him it's about time you tie them yourself because tomorrow. I'm tying them together. Thanks for listening. Increase your joy with today's offer philippians a biblical study. "Today's teaching from philippians. Starting here this weekend. The book of philippians. I think you're gonna learn some very valuable things first of all. Let me say that. Although jesus was a man of many sorrows and acquainted with grief he possessed a deep joy beyond anything that the world could offer as he faced the terrible death on calvary he spoke to his disciples and said these things. I have spoken on to you that my joy might remain in you and your jaw might be full. He said i'm telling you these things. Because i want you to have joy and not just any kind of joy but my joy john ten ten favorites that they've comes only still to kill and destroy but i came that you might have an enjoy your life so let me just ask and you don't have to give any visible answer but just to get you to think about it. How many of you are really enjoying your life. You see a lot of people are but a lot of people aren't because a lot of people think to enjoy life you have to have no problems way more than enough money everything that you want. And when jesus said he wants to have his joy it's a joy that we have when not much of anything written is going right in our lives in the book of philippians. Paul mentions joy nineteen times. It's the epistle of joy no matter what our circumstances are. It is our privilege privileges. A child of god to be full of joy. Although paul wrote this book while imprisoned he still found joy. What was his secret. Well he the mind and are functions of the mine sixteen times in the book of philippians so joy he mentions nine thousand nine times the mind and thoughts. He mentioned sixteen times. So how many of you already know that your mind. The thoughts you allow your mind are the thoughts you choose to think gone. Have a lot to do with your. Do you know you can think yourself into being miserable and honestly you can think yourself into being happy if you sit around and think about what you don't have and what people don't do for you that you think they should do. You can have a miserable day anytime you want to have one. Just get up and start thinking the wrong stuff in the morning. Just be as miserable as you want to feel. Sorry for yourself all day and the devil join your party and just it's marvelous are you can say no. I'm not thinking like that. Because i know my thoughts are going to affect my actions. My thoughts are going to affect my moods. And i'm not gonna give the devil one more day of my life. So i'm going to think about what people do for me and i'm going to think about what i do have not what i don't have and one thing i always have is jesus in my life and if i have him then i don't really need anything else to keep me happy. We absolutely must remember and be reminded often that our time here on earth is so short. Let's don't make too much out of it because when you're life here is over. It's not over. you're going to go somewhere else. There's only two choices either. Heaven are held. And if you've read anything at all about what hell's going to be like. I think it's obvious that heaven is the best place to choose. The only way to get in. There is to believe in jesus to believe that he is the son of god that he came and he for your sense he died for you and the only way that you can have real relationship with god is through christ spend your life here developing a close tight intimate relationship with jesus. He did not die for us so we could have a listen. He died for us so we can have a relationship with him. I'll say this again later in my teaching but one of the statements that i ran across studying for this in a lot of this about the apostle paul and you know he he had he had everything right. He had all the religious things that you should have to be the right kind of person. And i read a statement that said paul had to lose his religion to find salvation. Anybody relate so religious and we think we're doing all the right things. I can't stand it when i asked somebody. If they're saved and they say. Well i go to church. You can go to church all day long. That don't make your christian any more than sitting in a garage. We'll make your car so we need to know him. And the one thing that you have to invest if you want to really know somebody is time and you need more than forty five minutes to an hour or an hour and a half once a week a couple times a month on sunday morning the devil is working too hard out there and we've got to be feeding ourselves the word of god on a regular basis on. How many of you don't want to just do this. You want to have victory and how many of you don't want to just go to heaven. You wanna take some people with you. So nineteen times. He talked about joy. You know our joy. It's very important for people to see happy christians. We should be the happiest people on the face of the earth. And that doesn't mean we have to go around giggling and being giddy all the time but it means that we we should be able to have the same problems that other people have and yet handle them in a completely way man jar. The lord is my strength. That will doesn't want your stuff. He wants your joy. So paul wrote this book while he was in prison. Keep that in mind as we go through philippians and he's still found joy. What was this secret. He thought about the right things. He chose to have a positive perspective. Even the worst circumstances.

A Prayer for When God Wrecks Your Dreams

"A prayer for wind. god rex. your dreams. I'm andy smith read by liam martin for my thoughts are not your thoughts. Neither are your ways. My ways declares the lord as the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah fifty five eight through nine is their dream in your heart. That you feel is being delayed if you look hard enough you may see another blessing in disguise. Some dreams of mine include being a wife and mother. I'm single but i'm grateful to god that he's been able to fulfil the emotional longings. I have in unexpected ways. I understand the heart numbing. Pain of a dream that hasn't come into fruition. It's hard to consider weight or no to be loving isn't it. We can often feel neglected. Lonely heartbroken tired or hopeless in this society of social media overload. There's things that can pop up on. A news feed that can cut deeper than any sharp edged sword. Seeing someone receive a blessing that you have cried about worked for prayed for and dreamed of while you're still in the waiting room is ridiculously hard. We're called to be joyful with our brothers and sisters in christ. rejoice with those who rejoice many times also comes through one. We talk about street. Famous in god in rightly so but being honest. I always come back to this next thought. If my dream does not come true. If i never receive what i've knocked on heaven's door for year after year does that mean god is not. I hope you know what the answer is. But just in case. Let me remind you and myself of this single truth. God is faithful to us at all times whether our dreams come true or not his faithfulness to me is saving me from an eternity apart from him. When i look back at things. I've gone through. I also see a bigger picture of his faithfulness in his guiding hand in my life. He is faithful to complete his work in us but not to complete our dream to do list so be confident of this that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of christ. Jesus philippians one. Six god is still good. God is still omnipresent. God is still faithful to us. Because he is god. And i am not a may you be comforted by the assurance that staying rooted in the lord is the most assured way to live a full joyful and dream come true kind of life jeremiah. Seventeen seventy eight tells us but blessed is the one who trust in the lord whose confidence is in him they will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It is not fear when he comes its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit. The only way we can have a content heart and joyful life is letting him love us pursue us and fill the heart naming. We have with his grace. That doesn't always make it easy to let go over dream or to let it sit still for a season and i know god recognizes that. Don't forget that we are what he dreams and desires and he loves a so much his will and dreams for us are more than we can even imagine. And that's more than okay. Let's pray. God thank you that your will and your plan is always perfect. It might not be easy or always feel good. But i know you see the big picture and know what's best for me. You are always good. You are always faithful. You always have steadfast love for your children. these are truth. That will never be untrue. So help me live in the light of those truth today. Help me have peace as i meditate on what. It means that you are always good faithful and full of steadfast love for me. Help me face today with confidence knowing that your plan is greater than all of my dreams. Lord i love you. Thank you for the life. I haven't you in. jesus name. Amen

Offered as a Substitute (Genesis 44:33)

"Chapter forty four verse thirty three now therefore please let your servant remain instead of the boy as a servant to my lord and let the boy go back with his brothers. Wow this is pretty powerful verse when you stop and think about what judah just said to joseph so leading up to this There's a lot in the story. I don't want to spend all the time recounting what has happened in this chapter but basically at this point joseph is saying leave benjamin with me and you go back to your father and judah steps up and he says please let your servant remain in other words let me remain instead of the boy and i'll be your servant joseph and remembered do doesn't know this actually joseph his brother that he's talking to right now but he says let your servant remain instead of the boys the servants my lord and let the boy go back with his brothers that is a radically different posture toward a younger brother. What judah and his brothers displayed tour. Joseph years ago think about it judah and his brothers sold joseph into slavery now judah and his brothers have the opportunity to do the exact. Same thing with benjamin. Just leave him here as a slave and go back live your lives but judah does something very different than what happened in genesis chapter thirty nine. Here judah offers his own life as a substitute for benjamin. So that judah would be the slave instead of benjamin now think about that picture on a much bigger level because one day a descendant would come from the line of judah who would offer himself as a substitute sacrifice but not for a family member this descendant from judas line would offer himself as a substitute sacrifice for you to set you and me free from the slavery of sin and death. Jesus from the line of judah would say i will lay my life in the words of philippians chapter two versus five to eleven. Who being in very nature. God did not consider equality with god something to be grasped but made himself nothing taking the very nature of a what of a servant being made in human likeness and being an appearance as a man. He humbled himself and became obedient to death. Even death on a cross. Jesus offered his life as a substitute sacrifice for you for me that we might have a relationship with god the father there we might be saved from the slavery of sin and death to experience eternal

Death is Not the End (Genesis 5:5)

"Chapter five verse five thus all the days that adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years and he died the reason i read this particular verse. One elitist to pray according to is because this is not the way it was supposed to be. God created adam and eve to experience life forever with him and here we see the words. Genesis chapter five verse. Five adam lived this many years and then he died. And that's the refrain that goes throughout the rest of this chapter and verse eight and he died in diverse eleven and he died and diverse twelve and he died in diverse seventeen and he died. It's just name after name. After name people who died why because of sin its effects in the world i think about the pandemic that we have watched unfold over the last year and hundreds of thousands of people around the world who have died. I don't know the exact number i guess. Only god really knows the exact number of people who have died as result of this pandemic. This is not the way it was supposed to be. I think about funeral. I did recently for a precious two year old little boy. This is not the way it's supposed to be. And i think about my life people. I love who've died. I'm guessing you've experienced the same in your life. It's not the way it's supposed to be. The beauty of the gospel. is that through. Jesus because of god's love for us the end of the story is not any died and he died and he died period period period. No he died and he lives john. Eleven twenty five. I am the resurrection and the life. Jesus said he who believes in me shall never die. Even though he dies he will live. Jesus we praise you for eternal life. Reprise you the death is not the end for all who trust in you. Cowdery praise you that we don't have to fear death that we can say with paul and philippians chapter one to live is christ and to die is gain. The you have taken gun. The worst thing that can happen to us death and you've actually turned it into the best thing that can happen to us it terminal life in your presence all glory be to your name. Jesus for taking the curse of sin death upon yourself for dying on the cross for our sins you died for us and then you rose from the dead. Death was not the end of your story and now death is not the end of our story. Got i praise you for the privilege of preaching funerals with hope in. Jesus god i pray printers anybody listening right now. Who doesn't know for sure what will happen to them. When they die that they would put their trust in jesus today they would trust in you to forgive them of their sense to reconcile them to relationship with you. They would not play religious games that they would trust in jesus as lord and savior of their life in god. We prayed to proclaim this to people around us today. Help us to view the world around the friendships around us. The family members around is to co workers around the lens of eternity. God help us to proclaim the good news of your love so that they might have life in you win. They die and life in you right

Christ the King (Zechariah 9:9)

"Zachariah chapter nine verse. Nine rejoice greatly o daughter of zion shout aloud daughter of jerusalem. Behold your king is coming to you. Righteous and having salvation is he humble and mounted on a donkey on a cult the foal of donkey. You may recognize this first from the old testament based on the way it is quoted in the new testament in matthew chapter twenty one john chapter twelve when matthew and john are recording jesus triumphal entry into jerusalem when he's about to go to the cross and both matthew and john look back and quote from this verse behold your king is coming to you. This is a prophecy. This is one of many all throughout the old testament which ended of itself is astounding. Just awesome to think about that over and over and over again over centuries in bible books different times among god's people god gives a picture of a coming king and gives details about his coming and his life and what he will do here. Your king is coming to you humble and mounted on a donkey. Not on a horse picture of war but on a donkey. His picture of peace and he will be righteous having salvation. What a great phrase righteous and having salvation is he and he's humble. This is the picture of jesus that zachariah chapter nine verse nine paints and i just want to let it lead us to praise. Jesus for who he is. Lord jesus we bow our hearts before you as the king who has come to us the sovereign king of the universe who took on a robe of human flesh and lived among us died for us on the cross for sins of all who trust in you rose from the grave and ascended on high where you are right now we exalt you at the right hand of the father we love you. Jesus we exalt you praise you. You are the king who was prophesied promised centuries before you ever came. You're the center of all history all history before you looked forward to you all history since you came. Looks back to you even as we long for your return when history will be up ended all again all over again once and for all when you return we praise you as our righteous king. You're perfect in all your ways. You're right in all you do. Nothing in you is wrong. There's nothing around us in this world. That is perfect. Besides your word and who you are your righteous and having salvation with praise you for the salvation. We have in you. Jesus thank you for dying on the cross for our sins. Thank you for saving us from our sins. Thank you for drawing us to yourself. Jesus thank you for making away for us to have eternal life with you your righteous and having salvation. You are humble. Jesus we praise you for your humility. He is reprieved that we think about. Philippians chapter two. How you humble yourself became obedient to death. Even death on a cross. Therefore a father has exalted. You and giving you the name that is above every name that your name of jesus every knee will bow every tongue will confess that you. Jesus christ our lord to the glory of god the father so we say it together right now you are lord your lord your lord. We believe your lord. We love the fact that you are. Lord we submit to you as lord lead us as lord for your glory as our lord humble having salvation righteous are king. We love you. Jesus and we praise you today and we say all these things in your name amen.

"philippian" Discussed on The Bible Recap

"Today in our new testament plan. We've finished book sixteen and in our full bible plan finished book fifty five. We first met the philippians in acts sixteen. Here's a quick refresher. Philip by is where paul and silas were arrested and god used that to save their prison guard and his whole family. It's also where they met. Lydia whose whole family converted to christianity to and it's also where they met a demonized girl and set her free from the demon and from slavery today. Paul writes and encouragement filled letter to the church here from day one. They've had a unique relationship with paul. He planted this church and he watched it grow and he's confident that god will finish what he started in them. He repeats this idea a few times in this short letter. In one six he says e who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of christ jesus and in two twelve thirteen he says work out your own salvation with fear and trembling for it is god who works in you both to will and to work for his good pleasure. He indicates that god is the one doing the good work through them and even creating the desire in them to do those things. And here's one important point of clarification paul's words to work out their own. Salvation is not a call to figure out how to save yourself. If you could do that you wouldn't need a savior. The context here and in everything else. He says helps clarify that. He's talking about living. Lives that demonstrate the gratitude and all we feel toward god for saving us. This is a nod to the process of sanctification where god works in us to conform to the image of his son. The philippians have already seen firsthand helped all response to being imprisoned. When they imprisoned him he used it as an opportunity to share the gospel. in fact. there's a good chance. His former prison guard is one of the people reading this letter. And now paul is imprisoned again probably in rome at this point and he still singing the same tune the gospel of christ all day long. He knows the his trials aren't without purpose. Trials can even cause confidence in christ to increase. He says it doesn't know how things will shake out. But he's hopeful and trusting and surrendered. He gets pretty vulnerable with them and says look i'd rather just step over death and into the other realm and be with jesus right now but on the other hand. It's probably better for you. Guys if i stick around a little bit longer. So i'm guessing that's what he has in store but i'm good with whatever. He encourages them to be strong in the face of persecution to not to be frightened by it all and in one thousand nine. He says something that none of us really want to hear. He says that not only has belief been granted to us but that suffering has been granted to us. That's not really the prize. i was hoping for. I'm more interested in the crowns but he goes on to say how we should live in harmony in the midst of suffering. This is important because suffering can bring out the worst in you. It can prompt you to be short tempered and selfish and live from scarcity mentality. So paul reminds them to count others as more significant not equal but better. He says to look to other people's interests. That's what jesus did after all in this letter. Paul highlights god's work through timothy and a half roditis. We met timothy and sixteen. He's the gentile had circumcised before he sent them to preach the gospel. So that any jews he encountered wouldn't be able to discredit him on that basis. Paul tells the philippians that he wants to send timothy to them soon. Will we paul's first letter to timothy tomorrow. Speaking of circumcision all warns them about the people who insist on circumcision. Because they're adding to the gospel all says look as a jew. Obviously i'm circumcised. And i can tell you. It has zero impact on my relationship with god. In fact my whole list of credentials means nothing compared to knowing jesus everything i worked so hard bore and everything that was given to me in my privilege. It's garbage the word paul uses here for garbage or rubbish would be curse word in modern language. That's how strong contrast is between what the world values and the all surpassing value of knowing. Jesus and paul says he knows jesus but he wants to know him more. He presses on he leans in nothing about paul is in neutral encourages them to kick things into gear to because there have been some people in their church. It seems who have walked away from christ. Then paul turns to thank and encourage those who have stood firm alongside him. You mentioned two women who have been co laborers with him in his ministry and we don't know for sure but they could be from liz prayer group back next sixteen or maybe one of them is even that formerly demonized grow. Jesus had a formerly demonized woman in his inner circle. So why not paul. To regardless there is a rift between these two women and paul wants to help restore the relationship he tells them to rejoice to be reasonable to be prayerful and to be peaceful. These things are all tied together. In one stream of thought rejoicing sets the tone it arcs our heart toward god and his goodness. When that's our focus we can move through life with reasonableness. Another translation uses the word. Gentleness here because if you've got a reasonable argument you don't have to come across his hotheaded. You can be rational and gentle. And when you're aware of the nearness of the lord like paul says in the next line you know you don't have to strive after anything e can be trusted to work on your behalf. So talk to him about what you need. And what present your request to him. And the piece that comes from trusting him and talking to him and remembering his nearness that peace will act like a bodyguard at the door of your heart and your mind if anyone would have experienced in this area trying to present a reasonable argument and not beheaded having peace in situations that call for anxiety. It's paul ease been through the wringer and from that vantage point. He says i've learned that there's only one thing that really matters whether i'm rich or poor or regardless of what challenges or face with christ. I can endure rings it. Thanks them for helping provide for him in prison. They sit financial relief his way. He's grateful because in this day. Prisoners have to rely on their friends for provisions era. Some wealthy people in philip like lydia. But it's possible that some of the others may have been stretched to help send paul resources. These people have repeatedly been extra generous depaul in ways that other churches haven't so he reminds them just as you've provided for me. God is providing for you. My god shot was in four eight to nine. Where paul says whatever is true. Whatever is honorable whatever is just whatever is pure whatever is lovely whatever is commendable if there is any excellence if there is anything worthy of praise think about these things. I put my thoughts through those filters many of them will get stopped at the first one. Is this true. Lots of my thoughts are hypothetical problems or things have created in my head false fears so i use the truth filter to block them out. They don't stand a chance against most of the other filters either but the gospel of christ meets every criteria of what paul says to about true honorable. Just pure lovely commendable excellent praiseworthy. It is all of those things and more. That's why i'm so glad we're spending everyday reminding our hearts to think about it. Guy gets it into our brains. I that into our hearts were it can be pumped out. Do all our blood vessels into every square inch of our body it can take root and bear fruit and things like rejoicing and gentleness and prayer and peace god is all those beautiful things and by fixing our eyes and minds on who he is. Our thoughts are filled with beauty. He's wear the joyous. Tomorrow will be reading. Paul's first letter to timothy. It's six chapters long. "We've already immediately alienated fifty percent or listeners. And that's fine. Maybe not. I mean we have met a lot of our listeners in various contexts and they are weirdly mostly men and no matter what we talk about so true. I take back. That's what frankly. I feel like men need to learn more about. Oh women's bodies exactly whether they're interested in women's bodies are not so sonya you're providing a service today and we're very. I absolutely agree. I really hope we didn't have a. I do think it's a really interesting topic and just something tera. It's good to know in general exactly. I totally agree. So sonia whenever you are ready please take us into the lower abdominal region of a female presenting body. Keep going thank you. So i'm going to start off by giving a really brief overview of human reproduction. I think it will be a good way to kind of start us out for people that aren't as familiar with us so human reproduction is defined as any form of sexual reproduction resulting in the fertilization of a woman's ag also known as an ovum by a man's sperm. Now the ovum is normally stored in the ovaries and it is released from the ovary will travel and meet the sperm in the philippian tube. So sperm actually have a longer distance to travel to make this trip. But it's fine because they're much better swimmers so exiled so these two single cells combine and may create a single cell called zydeco. And these zygote still contain chromosomes from each parent. Half half Do either of you know how many chromosomes are in chicago. Oh really do you remember this. Twenty twenty. Three's ooh three twenty as good job yes. Gonzaga contains twenty three chromosomes from each parent. And this basically gives the zygote the network material from each parent so whether you have blue eyes. Green is calling your skin. You know certain habits even now this is going to come from the generic material of your parents when he three and me. Yeah that's what i immediately thought of. Yeah there we go exactly so they'll code your jeans. I'm pretty sure they ask you whether or not you. You wanna release your genome data for science. I think that's how it works so What happens in the first twenty four hours after fertilization. This single cells i go. It'll rapidly. divide so it'll split in half and you'll end up with two cells and then those will each split again you'll end up with four eight sixteen and they'll just keep dividing until you end up with this tiny little cell mass that's about zero point two millimeters in diameter. I know it's metric just to give you an idea it's about the size of medium coarse grain of sand. So that's very tight. Yeah yeah so. This all happens at by around day for you. Have this tiny grain of sand. This selma's will then hollow to form something called a blastocyst. It is around fluid-filled. Shell with a cell mass. That looks as if it's squished. Onto the inside of the inner cell wall so the inner cell mass will eventually four embryo and then the fetus whereas the outer shell of the blastocyst is composed of trotha blast cells and that will eventually compose the placenta. Okay have their nice. Yeah so you have these two different cell types that give rise to do two different parts of the embryo in the placenta. So like i said the blastocyst the outer shell is composed of a cell type called trophoblast cells and these we are going to come back to them later. They are super important but this cell type basically allows the this blastocyst to embed itself into the woman's uterus. Okay yeah so so. They tend to have a little bit more invasive properties. So they will. It sounds a little aggressive but it is essentially. What happens. it'll invade into the mothers tissue and that's how it allows itself to grow and feed off the nutrients of mother

"Think about what makes people confident in the world. People were confident in the world when they're successful when they're educated when they've achieved things that they've set out to do all kinds of reasons that we can be confident and paul starts to name those himself. he's like. I have reasons to be confident in who i am. But they mean nothing. Whatever were gains to me. I now consider loss for the sake of cross. Everything is rubbish. Compared it's garbage. Compared to what i have found in christ jesus hello my friends and welcome back to the how to study. The bible podcast. My name is nicole. And i am your host. Your coach Your fellow journey through scripture and series. And we're actually in a little mini series right now called abundantly free which is based on the book of philippians. And i have been enjoying it so much. It's it's so interesting. How god's word works because when you begin to not just develop a habit but love the habit of reading scripture You actually discover that. Even very familiar passages take on new light and it's like the bible. Is this beautiful diamond. That as you turn it it has different. Facets as your life turns and changes it also then interacts with the bible in different ways and so even a very familiar letter. If you've grown up in the church Familiar letter like the letter to the philippians can just strike your heart in a new way and give you new strength and encouragement and confidence for your day and for your life. So i wanna start off by praying because Even though this is like. I'm walking you guys through a bible study. I know i really wanna. I wanna come alongside of you from beginning to end and i think that the way we enter into scripture is a very important part of our experience with god and how we want to enter in is not like a loved to describe it. When i'm preaching. It's not like we're looking down on the bible so if you're sitting somewhere right now or you're Taking a walk or whatever and you you think about it. You're always look down at what you're reading if it's on your phone or whatever and i like to imagine that you would just put both hands on your bible and pick it up. Hold it above your head and read it that way like were underneath. God's word were not like over the top of it. And part of the way that i try to get my heart in the right place to to enter in as if god's word is over me and i'm asking god to help me discover the truth and revelation within to give me faith to see it that way. It's a way that i engage with the bible that's different than let's say a nonfiction book or even a devotion or even you know a bible study and i like to write bible studies and you'll know i write bible studies for you. This whole podcast is based on the book help. My bible is alive which is to help you get ready to be able to read the bible for yourself and encounter god within it but even so when we actually go to read the scripture we want to have revelation from the spirit of god. And we wanna make sure that we're not just staring.

"In order to do that. Hello my friends. Welcome back to how to study the bible. I am your host and coach. Bible teacher pastor nicole eunice more than anything. I am a fellow student of god's word and excited to discover with you. God has for us in this episode. So we are in a series called abundantly free and we are looking at the book of philippians. This is based on an offering that we have put together for you coming out of my book helped. My bible is alive. I have a lot of you. Readers who are excited about the alive method that we're gonna use today but you wanted some additional encouragement so we put together a thirty day all digital journey that you can find on my website. Nicole unicef dot com and there. There is an opportunity for you to walk through the book of both fijian's and philippians with a reading guide a group discussion guide and personal videos from me. That are dropped in your inbox twice a week to keep you on track and to keep you moving forward and your devotion to god's word and your experience of god through his words so that is an offering for you that i hope you'll check out. I think it can be really helpful. Especially if you are enjoying the series in philippians so this is going to be a very kind of overview like. I'm just taking a couple of verses and we're just digging out the goodness from those verses but obviously there's so much more in this letter last episode. I gave you a little bit of context for paul and who he's writing to and why he's writing and we looked at chapter one at this idea of paul's personal experience would jesus christ being where he starts his letter and not in that we can sort of glean that god is always calling us to a personal experience with him that that our understanding of him that are encouragement to other people that are purpose in the world that are way of like engaging with growth is going to come out of a personal experience with the gospel of jesus. Christ it's only when we understand that we have been saved by grace. It is by grace. We've been saved not by works. It's only when we've experienced that in his goodness and in his mercy in his kindness god has reached out to us when we could not reach out ourselves. And that while we were yet centers christ died for us and that we can have access to our heavenly father through the work and the life of jesus christ and because of that because of that personal experience everything else flows out of that and paul is no different. That is that is how paul sets up this letter to this church. This little movement of believers in it would be called the way at the time as they're beginning to follow jesus christ and so he's done that in the first chapter and in the second chapter he starts with one of my very favorite bible words that i always love to point out and this is the beginning of chapter two and the word is therefore and i don't think we use therefore that much but i think we all know kind of what it means. Therefore is a connecting word. It says because of everything that i have said before this word you can apply everything that i've said after this word and that is really important for us to make those connections and make those links so that we're not reading scripture out of context for understanding what connects to what and in chapter two. Paul starts with this big bible word therefore so he saying okay. listen. I'm going to connect some thoughts for you. And the connections are going to be because of your encouragement that comes from being united with christ verse one because of your comfort from his love. I won because of your common sharing in the spirit because of your tenderness and compassion because of that then so verse two says then so now. We're getting the connection therefore then so because of everything that comes out of a relationship with jesus christ then make my joy complete by being like minded having the same love being one in spirit of mind. So we're beginning to see that. Paul is now going to connect the experience of our salvation with the outworking of our salvation. The experience of the grace of jesus christ with the actual outside actions that that's going to look like in our life. Our faith is not static on our. We have been justified by faith. Meaning that god has done all the work for us to come back into relationship with our job is to receive it just because of that. Being true doesn't mean that we still don't have like out workings of that. Experience thought are a part of our life and we're going to jump ahead to verse twelve and kind of jump into a couple of versus here to verse twelve and oh here we go. Here comes that word again. Ready therefore therefore my dear friends as you have always obeyed not only in my presence but now much more in my absence. Continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling for it is god who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfil his good purpose if twenty twenty has taught us anything. It's that we need to be people who prey. Are you ready to make prayer a habit this year. There's no better time than now to start praying more often. But if you're not sure where to start or how to begin. Can i recommend our most popular. Podcast your daily prayer. When you subscribe to your daily prayer and your favorite podcast back. You'll receive a new prayer every day to start your day. Our prayers tecom your heart and set your mind on what matters most to start listening to your daily prayer. Just search for your favorite podcast app or head over to life audio dot com okay. I chose this passage on purpose. Because this is one of those passages that can trip us right up really quickly if we don't work through the alive methods so if you're trying to immediately apply to your life skip questions one two and three and just go right to question for what does it mean for me. You're like i knew it. I knew i had to work myself. Haitian and maybe you're like i knew it. I knew that god was scary. And i'm supposed to have fear and trembling when i'm with got so we've jumped so quickly that we haven't stopped to be like okay. Let's work through the passage and before we get kind of wrapped up in what we think. This means let's work through the math methods and see if we have more to discover so very first question in the alive method is what does it say so i wanna make sure that i can understand what it is saying so first of all. I've got my first word therefore whenever there's a therefore i know that okay. Whatever happened before this is really important. And so i do a quick look back and unlike okay therefore is connected to this beautiful beautiful poetic passage verses six through eleven about jesus christ and it's all about the work of jesus christ and like the cosmic story of jesus christ who here. I'll give you a few little pieces of it. Who being in vary nature was. God did not consider equality with god something to be used to his own advantage rather he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant. Begin made in human lightness and it goes on and being found in an appearance as a man he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death. Even death on a cross here comes that word again. Therefore therefore god exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name above every name that at the name of jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth and every tongue acknowledge that jesus christ is lord to the glory of god the father. I just couldn't stop. I had read the whole thing. Like where.

How To Pray Against Negative Thinking

"First prayer is over negative thinking if you ever want a sneak peek into the direction that your day or week is headed. Just look at your thoughts. What you were thinking has power to direct the course of your entire day starting with positive. In truthful thoughts can lead to a peaceful and fulfilling day. Negative thoughts however not aligned. With god's truth can lead to a confusing and frustrating day. This is why god wants us. To keep our thoughts on good things philippians. Chapter four verse. Eight tells us whatever is true. Whatever is noble. Whatevers right whatever is pure whatever is lovely. Whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy. Think about such things. If changing our thoughts from negative to positive can change our day from good to bad they also have the power to direct. The course of our lives now. That is serious. Which is why. The bible also instructs us in second corinthians chapter ten verse five to take captive every thought to make it obedient to christ. Now this may seem easier said than done because it is but our thought life is something that we can pray about a constant prayer of mine. Is that my thoughts will will ally with god's truth that she will reveal an uproot any lies in my mind and replace them with good and truthful thoughts.

They Shall Know that I am the Lord (Ezekiel 29:6)

"Zeke you'll chapter twenty, nine, verse six. Then all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the Lord. Read that again. Just just think about this statement. God. Says in this prophecy against Egypt, he's telling them what he's. GonNa. Do among them and he says then all the inhabitants of Egypt. Shall know that I am the Lord. That's a common phrase that last part we see all throughout Ezekiel, he sang it mostly God saying it through Ezekiel mostly to his people. You shall know that I am the Lord. You shall all know that I am the Lord. But now in this section of Ezekiel we see God prophesying through Ezekiel speaking to all kinds of different nations around his people. And here in this prophecy against Egypt verse six says then all the inhabitants of Egypt shall know that I am the Lord. And that verse. So significant. When we think about. The world around US look at the world around us. Perceive what is happening in the world around us. God is working in everything that is happening. Toward this end. That all the inhabitants. Of every nation. Shall know that he is the Lord. To borrow from Philippians Chapter Two verse nine to eleven one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord all the inhabitants. Of Egypt, all the inhabitants of the earth will not only know. That Jesus is Lord, but they will bow the knee and confess Jesus is Lord sovereign ruler of all just think about that. Think about the. Seven plus billion people in the world right now think about everyone's face. You will see today or have seen today. You will see tomorrow every one of them. Will one day not just know. That Jesus Lord they will bow to Jesus as Lord. Like how does that change the way we live? I certainly, it gives us confidence. Doesn't it that? In the end. Jesus will be exalted as Lord like amidst all the turmoil and tension we see around us in world. It's good to know that Jesus Lord over at all then one day he who is perfectly just imperfectly righteous will usher in a new habit a newer of perfect justice in perfect righteousness where he is exalted as Lord that's a hope for today. And then doesn't that. Just drive urgency in evangelism urgency to share the gospel like look at the people you see today, we'll see tomorrow like look in their eyes one day they will know and bow the need Jesus is Lord. So the question is not. Will they know she just as Lord will they bowed and Lord? The question is, will they do that now? Will they know that now bow the knee now or will they know and bow the knee when it's too late? In you know this you know this is coming so Proclaimed Jesus as Lord today like. Let Your Lips. Let your life can be the means by which they know now before it's too late the Jesus is Lord like who can you? Who Can I share the Gospel with today? Right around us, and then as we pray for people around the world who don't know the name of Jesus, don't know the gospel of you just think about the. People in Tanzania six, hundred and forty three thousand. Muslims no followers of Jesus among the charity no one who's bowing the need to Jesus his Lordship all of them will one day. Bow The knee before. Jesus. Is Lord the question is what they do it. Now where they don't, it's too late and we know that he's lured. So we go. This is why we go. This is why the Great Commission Verse Nineteen Matthew Chapter Twenty Eight therefore go and make disciples of all nations why what's the therefore referring to verse Eighteen All Authority in Heaven on earth has been given to me we go we share the Gospel, why because Jesus is Lord we go right around us to the end of the Because Jesus is Lord of also. God We pray that you would. Captivate our hearts our lives with the reality of your lordship today certainly in our own lives as we submit to your Lordship even as we've already prayed that in Ezekiel. But God is we think about. Your lordship over everyone. Over everyone. We pray. For. Children. Parents. Relatives Friends. Neighbors Coworkers who don't know you as Lord Right now God, we pray that you would bring them to know you as Lord, we pray that you would give us boldness in sharing the Gospel with him. Go that you would open their eyes. You would do a supernatural work, open their eyes to see you as Lord to submit. He was Lord, God, we pray for the spread of Your Gospel and our families among our friends among our neighbours among our co workers got. We pray that you would bring more and more and more people in Metro, Washington DC and know you as the Lord. The trust you is Laurie. Pray for that and all the cities, the places where we are gathered right now. Our country's. Got Among unreached peoples, God we pray together for the Chirazi in Tanzania God please bring the Chirazi to know Jesus. Is Lord Sin Somebody since some of us to go to the Chirazi in Tanzania, they might know that you're the Lord. They might bow the need to you as lord before it's too late they might know you as savior and Lord. God We, pray for the spread of the Gospel among the Chirazi. And among people right around US knowing. Then, all the inhabitants of the Earth shall know that you are the Lord. In Jesus Name We pray

Philippines deports US Marine in transgender killing

"His anger in the Philippines after President Duterte a pardon the US Marine who had bean serving time in prison for killing a transgender woman in 2014 Joseph Scott Pemberton has been released on deported just over halfway through his 10 year prison sentence for the killing of Jennifer Lord. I've been hearing about the crime and the impact of the pardon from Nomi, Fontana's Thie, executive director of Gender and Development advocates, Filipinas and LGBTQ rights organization in the country. On the night of October. 11 2013, which was a Saturday transform and Jennifer Louder, met the American Joseph Scott Pemberton at a bar. They agreed through check in a motel a little over half an hour later, the US Marine leaves, and when the motel clerk checks in on Jennifer Loudy, he finds her Dead with her had in the toilet and her neck blackened with strangulation marks, and apparently she died from drowning. So because of that, wass as fiction by drowning, and he was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Yes, A year later, after a trial was held, Scott Pemberton was convicted. Ah, home inside in spite of the charges brought against him being murder, So it's AA degree lower. Murder and he was in jail for a six through 12 years, although the maximum for home so I could be up to 20 years, but he appealed his sentence. So it was shortened to just 10 years. So I'm here. He would have served just a little over five years and now he's being pardoned. Released. Sent back to the United States. What is your reaction to that? This is something that we do not accept. This is something that we will mouth primitive and something that we will never, ever forget, because the legacy of Jennifer loudest keys is that it is the first case in the Philippines at the successfully put an American serviceman was committed a crime in Philippine soil in jail. Convicted and jailed in the Philippians. So this means for almost a century that the Philippines has been a colony and in a new colony of the United States since Spain, which first colonizers handed our country over to them in 80 98. So many American soldiers have committed crimes in our country and have never been convicted, have never been put in jail. And what what is the significance of this for the trans community? For the trans community. This sounds are loud and clear message that the president is an enemy of the LGBT of the trans community and the LGBT Q our community in the Philippines and that in spite of his pronouncement that the president has been vocal about supporting LGBT Q. I writes in the Philippines, but this action proves didn't understand what LGBT Q I rights are and this interrogates his claims that he is a friend of the community. Yes, because his record is pretty Good, isn't it? When he was vice mayor of Davao City, he encouraged a council to pass anti discrimination ordinance that protected the LGBT community. He said that he was against bullying gay people. He has Made other comments in support of the the LGBT community. But you say his actions speak of something different. Yes, and those actions in the past or his record as a chief of Ah, off our city here in the Philippines? Is this a ruse? For me? It's It's really a Machiavellian. It's a very cunning politician, so he does things that will make him Popular to the people. But isn't it possible this? This is about broader diplomatic relationship with the United States, one that he has said different things about but ultimately he's decided that pardoning this American soldier was the right thing for the Philippines. We don't know for sure. And at this point everything will these speculative because as things stand it, for example, that the Democrats win and the NC Trump, who is friends with their and Where does that leave him in with Americans, But at the same time, we also feel that for the many human rights abuses that have been committed under his term, the president now has to find allies in the community of nations so that after he steps down, he will have those powerful friends to rely on for support because Certainly he will be held accountable for all the human rights abuses that happened under his term. Naomi Fontana's executive director of gender and development advocates, Filipinas and LGBTQ Rights Association in that country.

Living Courageously: The Fear of Failure

"We're GONNA talk about today the fear of making mistakes. I think sometimes to be honest that we are so accustomed to letting fear rule us that we don't even we don't even really realize that's what's going on. You know just because you feel afraid that doesn't mean that you get to not do what God's asking you to do. Hello. We have to learn how to confront figure. The biggest mistake that we can make is always being afraid that we're going to make a mistake. Now did you hear me the biggest mistake that we can make is always being afraid That we're going to make a mistake. What is this fear of? FAILURE ROOTED IN A. It triggered an insecurity. We need to be right all the time to feel okay about ourselves. We think that being right all the time is, what gives us great reputation with people. If. I'm right all the time and I don't make mistakes then I'm going to impress people. You know not one of us has ever really free until we're free from the need to impress other people. Until. You're free to live your life and not have to be overly concerned about what other people think of every decision that you make. Now like I said last night you know only a fool wouldn't want anybody to like I mean we want people to like us. We should want to please people but not at the cost of displeasing God. Are Denying our own destiny. Insecurity is a psychological problem epidemic proportions. There are so many insecure people in the world and so many people that lack confidence and they're all bumping into each other and giving each other problems. You know if I'm insecure and you're going to be in relationship with me then it has to be your job to make me feel good about myself all the time. And it won't be long and that's just GonNa wear you completely out if I'm in relationship with somebody that's insecure and fearful. I have to walk on eggshells all the time to make sure that I say the right thing don't say the wrong thing don't look at them the wrong way. Make sure I compliment them on every little thing that they do and pretty soon I feel like all my time is taken up and keeping this insecure person fixed. Come on how many fresh fixes do you need every day. Of compliments and hand claps. To feel good about yourself. You know we all need to be encouraged, but we need to not crave it. We need to not have to have it in order to get through the day and I've kind of learned what I really feel like I need to be encouraged. I used to get mad at Dave of he wasn't encouraging me. I don't do that anymore. I go to God now and ask him to encourage me and. AND TO BE HONEST Is Not just supernatural thing I. Probably, not feeling courage God will work through somebody. And he may work through Dave. But if I try to make it happen then Dave feels manipulated and controlled and pretty soon they resents me come on is anybody home out there today? But if I go to garden, got puts it in his heart. Then it's a real thing coming out of his spirit. And things begin to change you need to be careful if you're always getting mad at other people because they're not making you feel good about yourself. while. Shouldn't people encourage me Yeah, but I'm telling you you gotta go to God. God is in Salt and when we bypass him and try to make people give us what God wants us to get from him. God wants our security to be in him. And Him. Not In, anything else. So Philippians chapter three verse three. Or we Christians, or the true circumcision. Who Worship God in spirit and by the spirit of God. And we Exalt and glory and pride ourselves in Jesus Christ. Now, he's already saying our total worth value is in Christ we have to realize that we're what I call everything nothing's. We're everything in Christ and nothing without him.

James Montgomery Boice

"Welcome back to another episode of five minutes in Church history on this episode we will be in the twentieth century visiting with James Montgomery Boyce. Doctor Boyce was born on July seven, nine, thousand, nine, hundred, thirty, eight. He lived in a bedroom community of Pittsburgh. was quite a high school athlete. His Dad was a doctor and position voice for a fine education as a high school student voice was sent to the Stony Brook School and New York. He was mentored by Frank E. Gabe line, Biblical, scholar and theologian in his own right. Well after Stony Brook Voice went to Harvard for his undergraduate, and then he went to Princeton for his give. After that he was on his way to Basel for a PhD in theology while he was in Basel all there were a group of people who pressured him to start a Bible study, and he started a Bible study that became a church and to this day there is an evangelical church there in Basel that great, reformation city. And there's a church there founded by doctor. Boyce well. He graduated from Basel and Nineteen. Sixty six and two years later in nineteen, sixty eight, he was installed as the Minister of Philadelphia's Tenth Presbyterian Church near Rittenhouse Square on Spruce Street and Philadelphia Historic Church its. Spire went way into the sky, and its organ and its pipes could be heard throughout the city on a Sunday morning. Well in the nineteen seventies and nineteen, seventy, four to be exact Boyce started the Philadelphia Conference on Reformed Theology. Balancing Our News Intake During The Pandemic

"Today i wanted to focus on. I think a really important passage of scripture philippians four eight that i think really helps us during this season. I don't know about you but me one of the issues dealt with over the last couple of months is how we balance our news intake. I always been a kind of news junkie. Ever since i was a kid. We got three newspapers that came to our house. I would read the sports section and the front page every day. Now of course That's transferred to things like social media twitter and facebook and it can be so easy to kind of get absorbed into the new cycle particularly in this time of pandemic. We're really trying to say okay. What's new what's what's opening up. What new decisions have made. What new drugs are being going through. Clinical trials what the new numbers going up down. What do people think what crazy things are people doing or not doing and i have found myself that it's very easy to get sucked into that. In such a way that we can kind of get either really fearful about what's going on and so fearful and angry an restless or we can get very cynical and distrusting steal our joy in. I've had a remind myself to kinda back away from those mediums. Put him down for a while And concentrate what's on. What's in front of me.

"I wanted to thank you for joining us today. This inspires you built your fate. Hope it gives you perspective to see God is moving in your life. Enjoy the message. Unintentionally went into a miniseries from Filipions. I wanna share from chapter four spirit, gimme accuracy and precision to speak this word. May it get through my mouth, but may come from your heart. Jesus man. Philippians chapter four and I wanna link this message with the other messages from Philippians one, not going to be dragging anybody across the stage in a chain. This week, I figured sa- bad pattern, but. I do want to go to this this great passage of scripture. That was originally like a PS that Paul put in his letter to the Philippian church, and he just kinda tag it on at the end to thank them for the gift that they sent to help him with his defense, his legal defense and from a prison cell, he writes, and he's like full of joy, which is counterintuitive that you'd be in jail and have joy or lose your job and still trust God and call them your provider or be single, but still know that you're not alone or maybe be wrong, but know that goddess even using that to alternately bless your life and to use you. And all of this is taught in the book of Philippians. But I find myself coming back to this section which is like a PS not only a postscript postscript to use an old letter writing term, but also it's a perspective shift. So we're going to see the. The power of perspective shift today. Philippians chapter four. Verse ten through nineteen rejoiced greatly in the Lord that you at last renewed, your concern for me, I was laughing when I read that. He's like, thanks, I got your gift. It's about time. I didn't think that was very good, etiquette. Very good. Thank you. Note, etiquette, I got the got the gift finally, but then he clarifies indeed, you work concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. I'm not saying this because I'm in the for I have learned to be content, whatever the circumstances just touch the person next to you and say, I'm good. I promise. I know what it is to be a need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content. I wasn't born this way. I was born screaming my head off. I was selfish when I was two, but I'm the touring and I have learned to be content. I've learned that you can complain, but it won't do any good and people won't like you saw learning a man to be content, whatever the circumstances, because I know what it is to be a need. I know what it is to have plenty of learn the secret of being content in any and every situation whether well-fed are hungry, whether living in plenty or in one night can do all this through him who gives me strength. I call that the international benchpress verse where you see these posters in every Christian school weight room all over the world, but it scuttled deeper meaning than that, it's about the sufficiency of God's spirit in every situation. I just feel good today. I feel I feel I feel relaxed and. The about this message verse fourteen yet it was good of you to share in my troubles. Moreover, as you Filipion snow in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out for Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving except you only. You were there for me. You were there for me and I won't forget it for even when I was in nyc. You sent me aid more than once. When I was in need, it's kind of confusing because he keeps going back and forth like I don't need anything. Thank you for meeting my needs, but I'll need anything. And I'm like, Well, Paul, if you don't need it, can we have a back because we need it. Not that I thought desire your gifts. What I desire is that more be credited to your.
