"Hilldale College. His colleague, professor Paul Ray, doctor of philosophy, Western civilization, Greek and all that other stuff that we know about on were fascinated by Philip this week and Alexander Dr Ray before we march onto Alexander and he marches on around the world. How did Philip rule you told me before the show began. Not unlike the Chinese air stealing from the Americans, the forms of government. So did Philip steal from the Greeks their forms. Yeah. Look, if you look at the Macedonians from the time of, say the Persian wars on down to Philip Ah, they're kind of tribal people and the kingship is a chieftain ship. And there's a kn awful lot of assassination. The brothers are always trying to knock out the the elder brother who succeeds to the throne. There's no rule of law. And they don't have AH, disciplined. Infantry. And so what Philip does is he learns from the successes of the Greeks. Militarily. He imports those institutions into a despotism. And he creates a quasi professional group of foot companions. They're called foot soldiers. And and he takes the old tribal cavalry, and he makes that a ah, a quasi professional force and he needs money to do that, and there's gold up inthe race. That's why his initial moves air in that direction. What the Chinese have done is they have abandoned the Communist economics they have adopted in a modified form a kind of free market economics. Actually, they're they're internal structures look like exactly what the Nazis did. And so they are rich in the way the Russians we never were. And a much greater threat is the consequence. Then they've stolen our technology or bought it or Ah ah imitated it. And so the consequence is they have become formidable. Militarily and economically. In a way the Russians never were. Ah, ah it just as Philip and made the Macedonians. A threat in the way the Macedonians had never been before. Now, let me ask you both a doctor on Doctor Kissinger is is known to have said, and I've heard a version of it. They will never march out from China. They will not conquer other countries. They do not aspire to that in the way that Alexander marched out from Philips, Macedonia. What do you think of that? Well. They're human they they have in the past and ah No, they're very aggressive in their diplomacy, and their military is becoming ever more sophisticated and numerous. And so I don't know what? What is it about them? That would stop that. You know that It is true that they've had a lot of trouble in their in their lie in their history, very long history. Keep in China United and that's the first concern. They've got that done now. You know, for the time being at least Dr Route, Dr Kissinger's book says they're fundamental belief is that which is separated? Must be united in that which is united must separate or that which is divided must unite in that which is united must divide wouldn't that tend to keep them at home, as opposed to Alexander like Well, you know, you could have made the same argument about, say, the Japanese in 1920. Ah, Had they ever conquered lands before Korea? I suppose. But, ah, the answer was no. But they departed from that in Manchuria and in China. I think Kissinger's being quite silly and look they have become very aggressive at sea. And you know, given where they are, you know. What are they going to conquer by land? I suppose Vietnam they might Uh, but what they're trying to do is become the dominant power at sea in East Asia. And if the other countries around them do not unite? Um, they'll succeed. And you all thought that the Hillsdale dialogue was about old books and for gotten people know Philip and Alexander are about the hearing. Now we'll be back to talk more about Alexander..

That was the sound effect. I don't know if it will trail great. Well, yeah. So I I have a hard time with YouTube recommendation engine right now because I don't think it's not working for me. It must be working for lots of people because very wouldn't use it. If it didn't increase watch time, but it is decreasing my watch time, and I'm spending more time on YouTube because I need something to do with my brain that's distracting that is not Twitter because my computer won't go there. So I I'm really struggling with this as well. And I don't have great recommendations except to say like in person a lot of my favorite YouTube channels. I find out about from people like in-person, which is so weird, and it's so antiquated, but the human recommendation engine is so excellent. We are so good at sharing stuff with each other. So for instance, there's this YouTube channel primitive technology where this guy. Guy in Australia, using only like tools that he has fashioned himself from sticks and stones is slowly working. He just smelted iron. Oh my God. He's like soon he's going to make a personal computer. He's like three years away from cheating some kind of like separate civilization from scratch. It's amazing. Okay. Now, I'm into it. Yeah. He he farmed. He it's it's an incredible show. But I heard about it from a real person. And you're hearing about for instance, origin of everything from a real person. And I just think like that stuff is it YouTube one day, it will be really it will be better at recommending than it is now. But until then we have each other. That's true IRL's still the way to go. If you can try to start another account. I did that recently. I also will say very quickly at least in my experience recently. It's been like over promoting already super-popular channels. Right. Is kind of a bit of a annoyance to me because I feel like the things that trend like the same ten to fifteen channels who are already like really populated really well subscribed. And I already have been watching. So I don't need another recommendation to watch tasty. This is no shade today. Sti you're still good. I still enjoy you. I don't want another recommendation to tastes video because I already walked France. I'm on every platform. Right. So I'd like to see like more independent and small craters. Get promoted regularly. So yeah, I'd like to see that too. Which reminds me? In fact, today's podcast is brought to you by smaller and independent YouTube, creators, smaller, independent YouTube creators, check them out. And this podcast is also brought to you by Prince Philip stole live still kick in doing. Okay. I'm sorry to his entire family will real sponsored today. Skill share Hank skills..

"Designer Philip stolen. Mayor also did super types up, and it is a think in plus meet boy type game, but you very simple color palette, very bright. But like just a few colors on each kind of level and simplistic graphics but beautiful at the same time. Andrew goal is to collect three little circles on the level in the way, you interact with it. There are two large circles touch areas on the size of the screen in you can name Jesse saw the world in. So it's all momentum based recanted tilt the world a little bit to the right in a little bit to the left and your character is just kind of legs like a human shape. It kind of looks like to me the way fingers would run your fingers on a table. Like if they weren't attached to a hand like, that's the way the little legs resort. Zirk game Brazil. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Cirque. Yeah. That's a simpler way of putting it if for us olds. Roads. Really games. I invented. Unfortunately, not quite but almost yes. And you're trying to collect these three circles. And then as you progress through the challenges, they become more difficult and buzzsaws and spikes and traps are put into play and some levels you get to parts of it where you can't complete it because you fall into a pit. And there's no way to get out. So simple swipe down refreshes the level for you. But what's awesome about it that sometimes you need to impale yourself or have a buzzsaw chop you to throw you up to a part of the level you otherwise can't get momentum to so dying is not the end of a level. Sometimes that is required to clear it in. It is the music is great. I didn't play it with sound on for probably the first couple of days. I was playing the games. I usually don't with mobile games. Like, I wonder what the sound is like awesome. It's really great. If you have it try it with sound on for a little bit. If you can and just really fun. It's graduates that issue of frustrating, but satisfying when you complete it and it hasn't been as frustrating. I'm not. Completed all the challenges yet hasn't been as frustrating as a some of the later levels in Selassie, but I can see the difficulty ramping up, and then it has a psych specked later levels to get there. And then it has a silly narrative kind of running through it that feels portal ask where this person is air, quote, thanking you for taking part in their testing sorry about those buzzsaws kind of a long between levels. You'll get the little text base story that progresses you really simple really elegant and it controls because you're just tilting the level really well for platformer on mobile. So if you like those types of games like an plus meet boy, even Celeste style platformer like a little bit of puzzle to it. I highly recommend see-saw. I'm not sure if it's on Android on playing it on IOS, but well, I've just found it. No that that's a great eruption facts. It's awesome. So I'd highly recommend it see-saw on mobile. And then the.

"Speaking of which the one other game that I want to talk about is in Syracuse where Florida state is the Vegas favorite FBI make Syracuse the favourite, and I don't necessarily want to get into who should win and all that. When we're telling you have PI says Syracuse, but I think this is a great example of how FBI works. There are a number of people who are critical of this system when they learn that preseason data never completely filters out. Even at the end of the season. Some of those preseason factors are going into FBI projections for the bowl games. Now, this tells you how much what happens on the field even through only two games how much it matters to FBI because before the season started, Florida state was considered by FBI to be. Eleven points better than Syracuse on a neutral field. After the first two games, it's now Florida state one point better on a neutral field, and because of Syracuse, having the home field advantage here, they are considered the favourite. And so what that tells you is even though yes, there are preseason factors at work, including what these teams have done over the last four seasons recruiting over the last four seasons. I would say that that's the only thing that's keeping Florida state one point better than Syracuse and FBI, but it doesn't mean everything and you can see that in terms of how much Syracuse gained on FSU. And if you've watched these teams play, you can't dispute that Florida state does not look better than Syracuse. I'll tell you why no matter who wins this game after what Sanford did through the arrogance against Florida state. I think Eric is going to put up some big numbers or there you go. There's some numbers to think about from us here at talk nerdy to me, we're talking to you and we'll be back on Monday doing it some more for Seth Walder. I'm Brad Edwards. Now, let's get back to the rest of the. Procession. I love that it's talk nerdy to Brad Edwards, always good stuff and then yes, a little bit how much Syracuse talk we're getting in today. I'm so excited about this. All right. I'm excited this because the mustache, one joins us, Philip steal. I can't. I just start calling you Philip Steeler. We always gotta go by Phil, though you would be the only person in the world. Besides my mother calls me fill up at that point. You know what? I'm not even gonna get into that country. That is a membership that she's have all by ourselves. We'll go great fill. Still looking at the games coming up here for week three. I want to start with this. What we've talked a lot about Ohio State and TCU. What do you like about that game? I like the buckeyes. Enter the numbers actually been dropping this morning. It's all the way down to about twelve eleven and a half. So there must be some heavy TCU money coming in, and it is, you know, the games at Texas expect TCU have a big crowd edge, but I don't know if that's going to happen. You know how states one of the best travel teams out there. It's Jerry Jones stadium. I think they'll have probably half the crowd, and then you'd look at Haskins. Making this first start against Gary Patterson defense. That is intimidating then except for when you throw in the fact that last year they threw him off the bench trailing Michigan in Ann Arbor, and he led the comeback win. So I think Haskins that offense almost unstoppable. They have the better weapons to me the best match up in this game..
