Philip Rivers Is Already Hinting at Making His NFL Comeback
"Philip Rivers thinking about coming out of retirement. Possibly. You know, your own career obviously ended, you know far differently. But just this idea of Philip Rivers still thinking like he might has something left in the tank. What's that process like you think for him? Well, first of all, it's sort of Kind of feels very far. Vienne for him to put that out there, you know, Like here we are. It's like two days after the Colts quarterback has surgery. That this story comes out. I mean, the timing is just Very interesting. I'm not mad at him for it. You know, I think it's crazy like let's let's let's
Carson Wentz Says Goodbye To Philadelphia Eagles, Welcomes Fresh Start With Indianapolis Colts
"Carson. Wentz officially introduced as a colts. Now that we're day into the new league year and went hoping for world. Class makeover in indy with frank reich. Who made a big bet on wins putting his career on the line bringing the quarterback. They were an excellent match before the colts. Well built around wins. So here's what went said today about his fresh start. You know you gotta just be intentional. One by one build those relationships and like you said respect is earned not giving so. I look forward to earning a lot of guys respect and You know i i. I'm confident that that will happen. Go trike. I'll never forget when i was working out in fargo north dakota before the draft. It was an instant that we just had this connection on how we see the game and how he challenge each other and ultimately make each other better super excited about getting to work with him again. Because i have the utmost respect for the man that he is also. The coach. study is as well guys here with you for the next hour as well as schefty didn't orlowski. Marcus spears matt miller will join us for a little draft talk later but let's get back to what we just heard from. Carson wentz introduced today. Dan alaska simply is this. How does he move. Forward was carson wentz's success this year. We'll start off the field. There are more questions than answers about him right now. So how is it going to turn the bad of last year into the good this year. What did you learn when it comes to relationships. How are you going to be better at relationships. How are you going to be better at leadership. How are you going to be better at handling the adversity off the field. I mean he just talked about earning the respect of his teammates and in the locker room. Think about this. He can go into that locker right now. This is what i would do if i was him. Sit down with those new coach teammates. How did philip rivers do it. Filled came from a different team and he came down year. What did he do. Endeared himself to you guys how did he earned your respect. What's what's stuff that that clicked with you guys because the reality is you don't have to sit here and say that you've got to be somebody or not. You can still be the genuine authentic person that you are but the reality is you should be ever changing. You should be ever-growing. And i liked the fact that he said. I've got to be intentional because the truth is this when september comes. No one cares about your excuses. Excuses or explanations you've got to figure out in the next five months in the midst of unique off season again how to earn. How do prove to your teammates that you're the guy proved to your teammates that you will take over this locker room and become part of it. That's his biggest challenge and once he realizes that off the field is equally if not more important on the field. That's when he can start to rebuild his career. Yeah no doubt. I think self awareness as well like the indianapolis colts need carson wentz to come and fix them as a football team he needs to. They need him to come. Add to what they already have going already building. And there's a amount of pressure on carson winston. He never felt in philly because of the situation. And he walks into. And they are frank reich as well like frank reich has attached is job to carson wentz internally him around and making him the quarterback that that can get team to where they think they can go but india set. They have a good offense around. Obviously they make moves at tackle. They have a good running back. Good receivers a defense that at the top level of the nfl last year. so carson winston is not coming into a bad situation this is a rehab for carson wins. This is not a rehab for the indianapolis colts. He needs to be aware aware of that as well. And look i wish and hope that carson wentz turns this thing around and has a lot of success. I'm just going to sit back and see how he handles the pressure. Because now you're on a playoff team. You're around got dairies. Linda put it out there right here to win. Don't care about what you have to say don't care about your past that these that transpired pencil tired about if you're going to come play for the indianapolis colts come to win. So there's a lot on the line of course a wins but there's also a lot on the line for the indianapolis colts football team as far as where they wanna go and a hell of a lot of framed right for sticking his neck out there to say i'm the guy that can get the carson that we saw in twenty seventeen. And if he is. The indianapolis colts are absolutely a legit super bowl contender.
Philadelphia Eagles trade QB Carson Wentz to Indianapolis Colts for two draft picks
"Story of the day. The Eagles have traded quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts and oh my goodness. It made me very happy. I was so excited. There's a lot to unpack. I want to start though by mentioning a weird thing first. In the 2016 NFL draft the number and overall pick was Jared Goff. The number two overall pick was Carson Wentz. And both have been traded away from the teams. They were drafted by 19 days apart. Just a weird quick doesn't happen very often the guy a number and overall pick a number 2 overall pick gets traded away. Especially not the quarterback position. Let alone almost in just over two weeks apart from each other. That's crazy. Pretty wild now after the trade the Eagles have a 33.8 Million Dead money. Salary cap charge for the 2021 NFL season what that means I will get into that in a minute. First of all, that's actually by the way the most ever to have dead money cap. I guess charge or penalties by an NFL team. It's so much that I actually thought that might keep the Eagles from trading cars and stuff like that might be so much of a penalty. They're not even getting rid of the guy sounds like they did. I thought it's good for everybody Carson Wentz wanted out they I think we're you know, we'll talk about Jalen hurts in a minute, but I thought it was good to get Carson out of there. It is also kind of weird and interesting I talked about Jared Goff previously very briefly the other the the record for the most amount of dead money against the salary cap was Jared Goff. The Rams amount is 22.2 million dollars off. Beat 19 days later by the Carson Wentz trade what is dead money? You may ask it's basically all the guaranteed money the Eagles still owe Carson Wentz after the trade. So even though Carson is no longer on their team. He still creates a thirty three point eight million dollar cap hit for next year. So over thirty-three million dollars off of the salary cap has taken up for Philadelphia. They cannot use that money for other players. It's weird. It's interesting. It's never that's again the most ever pretty interesting. I was surprised that you know, they still trade off a given that but in the trade the Colts got Carson Wentz so the cold they get their quarterback that the replacement Philip Rivers the replacement for Andrew Luck. I'm happy for the Colts man. They've they've Way to make it work. They lost in Turlock. They had to scramble the Mage Jacoby Brissett work for a year. They made Philip Rivers work for a year. Now. They've got what they believe is their franchise guide Carson Wentz good for them. The Eagles got a 2001 third-round pick for the upcoming NFL draft and a conditional 2022 second-round pick and here's what's really cool. The condition. Is that if Carson Wentz plays 75% off Kohls offensive snaps for next year if it stays healthy place the whole year or you know, it's good enough to be the starter all years and get benched. Then that draft pick goes from a second round pick in 2022 to a first-round picks. Oh, wow. I like about that. People are saying the Eagles got a horrible trade. They got fleeced. It's terrible. Oh my goodness. You gotta realize this is probably the best trade they could possibly find the Eagles traded away Carson Wentz a guy who has an injury history has been injured repeatedly over the years. He's coming off of a horrible season where he was so bad the dude got benched for Jalen hurts a rookie quarterback Club. So the fact that Philadelphia made a trade where they have an opportunity to get a first-round pick that's impressive to me. I think people realize that's the best they were going to get so anybody criticizing Philadelphia you did not realize how I think how little value Carson Wentz really had on the market people like nobody really wants him. I think JJ Watts getting a ton of attention Carson Wentz people are very wary. And I think it's really what's really disappointed me. Is that the Bears didn't get him. What did the Bears did the Bears not want him? I don't understand. Maybe they're trying to John Watson feel like the Bears really lost here. They still got home key who Carson Wentz has problems I think is way better than Mitchell trubisky. So debate that all you want. I don't know how you go. Like. Oh the Bears they got a great quarterback still trubisky. I like it. I think another thing people got realize is that I love the trade for Carson Wentz. He's going to a way better team he gets to play for his former offensive coordinator Frank back in 2017 the best year Carson Wentz ever had in the NFL. He was a before he got hurt. He was an MVP candidate playing under Frank Reich. He's reuniting with that guy that's going to be awesome to got a great relationship and EM the Colts have a great offensive line. They've got to get running game. They've got a great defense Carson Wentz is being put into a great situation. If he does not do well then there's no excuse. You can make he's got great great team around him good support good people. He's getting helped.
J.J. Watt is leaving the Houston Texans
"Talk about it real quick here about the current state of the nfl. All right to shawn watson is going to be somebody that's talked about if this is the way the. Nfl becomes with high super caliber superstar quarterbacks wanting out of their russell wilson is somebody you would never think whatever asked to be traded or moved or anything other than go hawks matthew stafford we thought he was potential gonna die on a football field while wearing alliance jersey because he would never ever come out and say hey. This is not for me anymore. Okay i would like to potentially go on and have success somewhere because when legacies are talked about hall of fames or talked about. I just heard what happened. philip rivers. I would like that not to happen to me. But this is not the type of guy i am at all now got. Jj watt not that type guy at all by all accounts. He's going in saying. Get me out of here. That's when it gets interesting because now it's not you know because back in the day they would move somebody is they're labeled a distraction. Let's get out of here. Let's go do whatever now. It's like all of the biggest name players that you would never expect a walter payton man of the year potentially the greatest philanthropic person in the nfl is potentially saying you know what i mean a new landscape. I'm intrigued to see how this continues. How each of these situations gets talked about judge in how many of them actually happened. Because the seahawks without russ stink. The texans were out the shawn watson. Probably gonna stink now without. Jj watt not to jj watt winning. Them games good player. I mean he's a great player. He's gonna play well somewhere else. Wide jason ring. It's like all these teams are are potentially at the mercy of their big name

"What the state for josh allen. Sunday a lot more than i think. People are saying Because a lot of people were acting like ooh he should be happy. He's their house. Money likud's wit. Patrick mahomes aaron rodgers. Tom brady so just be happy. You got invited to that party. But now if. I'm a teammate of joshua. If i'm on the buffalo bills i'm like dog. We gotta take advantage of this situation right now. Who playing. We're playing a compromise kansas city chiefs team. Say what you want about. The in their record. I told you they haven't won a game by double digits since november first. Now the jets okay. So they're not playing optima football even if you can say the first game in the postseason for them beating the cleveland browns. Twenty two to seventeen. That's optimal no. It wasn't their quarterback got knocked out the game. I don't know how he's going to prepare this week. So if i'm going to buffalo bills. I'm like look. We have thirteen win team a dog. You wanted the best quarterbacks out there forget all that you just arrived here. You are there and don't waste this opportunity. Shout out. Dan marino dan marino went to the super bowl early. Don't worry i'll be back you won't you won't be back in. A sense of this team is ready made for this moment. You gotta compromise wounded chief team if you can even go there and suggested you have the number two scoring offense from the regular season. That's still hasn't fully click yet in a postseason and you have the number one scoring defense remaining in the playoffs right now. Tell you all matters if you lose this game next year when you come up there with all of these tremendous stats josh allen and a team is feeling great and we have a great record. Thirteen wins again. We're number two in scoring offense and people going to look around like was different. Why are we better this year than we were last year. So you gotta take advantage when a momentum is which you right now. Is that moment love that. Take it in my own words. Josh allen you do not know if you are going to be back back capitalized while you hear. Look at the quarterbacks in the current that are currently left patrick mahomes. He has his individual. He has his team accomplishments. Aaron rodgers individual team accomplishments. Tom brady individual team accomplishments. Okay you'll say auto. They've all played. Two of them have played fifteen plus years. Let's talk about josh allens. Class talked about guys around the same major. Some lamar jackson. He got his individual awards. Already told all about patrick. Mahomes josh allen has already put himself into a conversation of being elite. You better make sure you leave that conversation with some hardware just thirty minutes ago. We were talking about philip rivers. Philip rivers did not know his second year starter would be the closest he ever got to a super bowl. Say it sagging. Here's the afc championship game. He probably like oh in her. Only twenty five twenty six afc championship. I'm gonna be here at least six seven eight more times philip rivers. You'll never go there again so now. Fifteen years later we up here doing a show debating. If philip rivers should get the ultimate prize for playing in the nfl a hall of fame award because he didn't ever actually accomplish that. Final thing josh allen. You're in this moment. You have a chance to lasting. I'm say you've already set the bar high for yourself. Please leave there with something. The biggest enemy one of the biggest enemies carson wentz was that eleven and three super bowl season by this what we expect carson winston beat as good lamar jackson. You want mvp unanimous. You set the bar high. Beat as good josh allen forty three touchdowns you set the bar high. Everybody's going to be expecting this from josh allen josh allen at least leave here with some sort of accolade you not wanna mvp. Aaron rodgers got that. But maybe maybe you can at least get to a super bowl. Yeah and you talk about the confidence that he needs to elevate this team to pull off this upset about it. You gotta fake it till you make and he obviously believed in themselves enough to even get to this point now believing yourself to get to the next place. The last six weeks who has higher team points per game. Completion percentage total down turnover ratio passer rating is all buffalo bills. It's all josh allen. Take advantage big this sorry.
Who will be Indianapolis Colts' quarterback in 2021
"But we begin today with music that philip rivers is retiring after seventeen seasons in the nfl. Sixteen with the chargers and san diego and los angeles and this one season in indianapolis when he got to the playoffs rivers never got to the super bowl but he stands fifth all time in passing yards and touchdown passes and he started the final. Two hundred forty games of his career without interruption will now become a high school football coach in alabama. Like his dad. We'll how will you remember his career. Well tony we automatically in any sport. Now we began to group people right and we associate certain people with certain folks football. It's done by position you know in a way that is probably not in the other sports. But i think of warren moon and dan fouts guys who were prolific prolific players who had long runs and played almost every game and they had a piled up passing stats. Galore like rivers did but they didn't reach the super bowl and then about through no fault of their own. Their teams weren't good enough. They got close. Each of those three gentlemen got close. But didn't have the breakthrough to the super bowl and rivers the same way river sets himself apart because he ran his mouth a lot. Which i have done without and i tend to like trash talkers but i i am. I didn't take to that. But he was a prolific quarterback. Tony he will receive serious consideration for the hall of fame. You know. I mean fouts and moon that to me shapes the category. I don't know if you've got other names. You'd like to put in there as well. Get to the hall of fame in a second but in looking at philip rivers his career. I thought he was a very very good player. I will remember. Most is the way the way he delivered the ball where he wound up and threw it as far as he could. And most of the time you thought it wasn't even going to get there. But it got there especially with antonio gates and it ended up in the end zone a lot. You talked about grouping people. Well i'm gonna group them as well. I'm going to group them with his draft class and draft class ally manning ben rothlisberger. They both dot to multiple super bowls. They both won super bowls. I feel badly for philip rivers in this regard to me. It's like charles barkley. It's everything but the ring because the statistics are certainly there. And i thought it was a very good quarterback. I'll take the hall of fame issue. I'll add another name dan marino. Who never won a super bowl if the comparables to marino and to moon and to fouts are rare. Then he's going to get in. I don't think they hold it against you. If you haven't won a super bowl there are people who've won. Two super bowls aren't in the hall of fame. You not room for a long ten years. Yeah do you think he would get in.

"Of people really. Would you know really interested in charge in if you had flip flop that if he had actually remained with the giants when they drafted him and they hadn't made that trade to get ally manning. Would we even be having this discussion. Would it even be debate. Absolutely not because notice when you play in new york and you're able to win here it just put you on a different platform. We've seen we li- we've seen with winning and new york done for ila you know allies basically immortal here here in the tri state area. And so when you on this stage. And that's why. I just tell people all the time. Don't be afraid to come to new york because if you win here there's nothing like it. Fully rivers. were to play his whole career. With neil football giants. I don't think anyone will question whether philip rivers would be would have been a first ballot hall of famer none zero. Because i if i'm not mistaken at his stats better than eli stats. Much much better. i mean same. Amount of games played basically and sixty more touchdowns and thirty five fewer interceptions along those lines. Now if you're the colts where are you turning. Because philip. he made it pretty clear that he was either gonna be playing at indianapolis next year or he was going to be coaching high school football. So if you're the colts are you looking at the draft. Are you looking at making a trade to try to reunite carson wentz with frank reich or a sam darnold type. Where do you think they had right now. For a quarterback. Well here's here's the thing. i think. The charges are in great position. I really do. I think the charges have one of the most will put together losses in the national football league. They're very well managed. They have a great gm. Chris ballot a really good head coach. And frank right and so i think they got. They got options. Obviously you're gonna hear a lot of talk about carson wentz. i'm not. I'm not a big believer in that move. I think that's going to happen. you know you've got Sam donald there's gonna be a lot of noise about sam darnold odyssey we we We don't know what the what the new york jets are going to do at the quarterback position. So there's going to be a lot of lot of lincoln's there and then jimmy. Jimmy jimmy is out there. We don't know what the sco forty nine it's gonna do with jimmy. Jimmy jimmy garoppolo. So i think. I think the indianapolis colts are going to have a lot of choices and whatever quarterback that they pick is going to be walking into a really really good situation indianapolis damien woody. Espn nfl analyst. Joining us on the goodyear hotline last one real quick damian and twenty seconds or less. Ken the chiefs win without. Patrick mahomes this week. No no buffalo. Thank you for having me damien woody. Espn nfl analyst. Joining.

"But to me. It just shows the watering down of the league. It shows watering down. Not necessarily of shouldn't say of the league but really more of the specialness of what it means to get into ken. Special word scher. Why not then. It leaves another question with the indianapolis colts. And we're going to get to that with damien. Woody who joins us right now on the goodyear hotline that by the way was straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk wireless no contract no compromise and of course. Espn zone at damien. Woody joins us right now damian. Chris carlin filling in for max kellerman this afternoon. When i say philip rivers to you is your first reaction first ballot hall of famer. I tend to think so. I mean listen. A lot is going to be made of the fact that he never wanted championship. And when it comes to the quarterback position that's a big part of resume. I get it but you'd be hard pressed to find more competitive quarterback of this generation in front of rivers. And you know. I just sat on the phone. Heard you talk about you. Know the san diego chargers organization now the los angeles chargers organization. And you know it wasn't the you know it wasn't the best rent organization you know. Obviously philip rivers that some he had a few outstanding teams on in his years with the charges but board they had some bad luck out there. And but i think we look at the totality look at the body of work with philip rivers Things that he was able to do over his career the fact that he was ironman numbers that he put up. I would be hard pressed to think that he wouldn't be a first ballot hall of fame. I think gurbuz you ask a lot of people out there especially guys that played against him. You know you found that he was you know people have the utmost respect and people you know people thought that you know he was one of the best competitors that that you know that we've seen play to play this game competitors word. I've heard a lot today about philip rivers. She played against him. Define what that means on the field. When you watch that guy play. Well listen i think. Look the one thing about philip rivers. He wasn't a you know. No one's gonna to mistake. Michael vick out there running the football. He's the type of guy that he's gonna stand tall in the pocket. He's gonna get you know you know. Beat up hit all those types of things but play off the play. He's coming after you and he's going to let you know he's not a guy he he you know he never used profanity. But i'll tell you what you got on that feeling you competing against him. But he's going to be mouthing off and he was going to back it up. And i think guys run. The league who play with and against philip rivers have a special appreciation for you. Know just that competitiveness that fires that he brought each and every week and for me it was. It was really good to see that you know. Culliver was actually finished on a high note. Because a lot of these guys lies quarterbacks in illegally longtime you know they're physical skills started diminishing and then they just show themselves and they don't really able. They're not really able to. you know. Go out there and put out a really good product. We saw what drew brees didn't his last. You know most likely last game threw three interceptions. Laver's played very well and then in his last game against the buffalo bills so it was really good to see him play. You know this year especially that playoff game really well. Espn nfl analyst. Woody joining us on the max. Kellerman show presented by progressive insurance. Chris carlin informatics. Today are right devil's advocate. Because i'm somebody that damian. I look at the era. I look at how much the football thrown in this era comparatively speaking and he feels like somebody that while i look at the totality of his career. The numbers are incredibly impressive. But when i think about hall of fame. And i think about greatness. I think about the fact that during the course of his career. He doesn't feel like he was one of the top five quarterbacks during that entire career am i being unfair always like philip rivers was one of the top one. That's got his leader. Kim you're not gonna you know. Obviously you have the unorthodox throwing motion. He wasn't got was going to be riding around. But that organization that charge organization. You know he went through some some lean years with that charged organization. But it wasn't because philip rivers. Philip rivers went on and and put out and put on a show game in and game out every season. And if you look at his career he was pretty consistent all the way through from the beginning to the end he might have had a couple of years whether the interceptions were high but for the most part of was was elite for of his career. And so for me. I always view philip rivers. That's wanted top. Quarterbacks in the league is just so happens that he played for orgnization that quite honestly not a lot.

"No he's totally right like you you when i play man i took some wicked shots in some wicked hits and i went back in games when i probably shouldn't have gone back in games because i didn't know i wasn't educated on a concussion. I wasn't forced to go back in but it was one of those deals where it's like. Oh man i'm i'm good i'm straight. I'm there's no fog there. I can see clearly understand everything that you say number going to get back on the field and play. Yeah it's like brett farr said you're young impenetrable. You could feel you can get through. Oh oh oh boy. You're watching on television right now. That is a lions in. I came back in game. Two plays later that look at the stat line but but that is a night nineteen lately. Your eyes are wide open during that whole support. I don't think people recognize. We got your eyes. Were open face a blank. Look when i say his damn quarterback Please when you check the sideline you know check. It had just make sure that your ring was still in now. I had a little bit of a headache. As i remember. But it wasn't to the degree where i could not play. You would quit right there jay. We'll all i know you check. I'm done i can't play for baltimore. "But i worry about the mental health aspect of it. We all at some times in our lives. Depending on what we're doing we get burned out for me. We need to take a step back with no matter what it is dealing with my kids every single day. It's like i need did. Let me go downstairs. Let me get two hours. Exactly let me get to two hours and then we can all come back and chiel because you need a break. I mean think about why we have vacations here at espn and what we do. We go nonstop man. Some point i get burned out talking about the damn nets get burned out talking about the lakers and the jets and football it. You know so. Let me just lead a couple of days to just right is that there's something wrong with that. No not at all. I know where i'm at. And i'm explaining it to write for sure. And that's one thing. I know you wanted to get kyrie onto. Just let your teammates. No let your coaching staff. No and it's nobody else's business. That's it one thing i wanted to mention. From the kyri soundbite the audio there would be played. i think is really instructive. And it's something i heard him broach for the first time but just because right. Now there's such a divide between athletes in the media that's covering athletes. Somebody athletes believing today. The media's in gotcha euro all we're looking for is that picture over looking for. Is that instagram post. And then we can go crazy the one thing. I thought that kyrie said that was really instructive was he said. I'm gonna paraphrase. He said. Listen sometimes. You guys don't really know what's going on and that's true. We're only looking at his play. We don't know the whole story and we're criticizing him for not being there but what's the second thing he said after that he goes and you know sometimes guys i don't let you in. It's a two way street so for the first time kyrie is acknowledging yes. Obviously the media's going after kyrie why isn't he playing. What's he doing to his teammates. He's being paid by the nets all of these things from a basketball perspective. But for the first time i heard kyrie broach and say you know what maybe just. Maybe if i let you guys in a little bit not that i have to key is always said. It's not the media's businesses not the fans business but you know what he used the word street. If i let you in and he's sort of understand where i'm coming from maybe a reporting would be a little bit different. That's a bridge. That i haven't seen kyrie at all talk about until yesterday and i think that's important. It is but when i let you win and i've never let you in before now all of a sudden. Guess what you're getting ready to. Do you start digging. Because you can't help yourself right so now i'm back in now. I'm a little reserve because you want to start digging in my trash can everything i do. Every move i make because you need to deliver a story for the first time it's open a crack and now we want to bust the door wide open and zubin. I think this also rope. You wanna be a cowboy richer. But i think this also if he addresses with teammates. I think this makes their bond stronger. I mean everybody on this team thing about the way. James harden has been criticized most of his career and especially the way on the way out the door with houston granite the way he handled even we got to where he wanted to be or kevin durant with golden state in the golden state. You know what's going on between him and russell westbrook and relationships and all these different things that have happened throughout the course of the year sometimes things in life for teams that come together this could be one of those moments that force in that to come together. It was interesting. That you say that. Jay and i don't know this for a fact but i would assume that throughout the course of his absence. The kyri was in some sort of communication with somebody on that bench. I don't know who. But i would assume it's your dog. I'm good man only whereby man. We'll be back. Don't say nothing. Nobody i'm chill. This is what i'm doing. I could just assume that because you always have some sorta ally that you play it. I don't care who it might be the last guy at the end of the bench that you don't know what the relationship is people. Try to find out but they know the relationship in your my guy. So i'm gonna tell you what i need to tell you zubin. Just don't let pete in evan them. No don't even say that no till justin nothing. I'll be back next week. Just just go to work man. I'm good those conversations. Do take place in locker rooms as you know jay that being said key they ain't gonna see as the whole month of february black history month we we're out. We worked on dr king day so quick stop zoo. I can't do that but laugh. Home of the february ain't gonna have we'll be here. Yea and the one thing i would say to jay's point and i think it's a great point that he made everybody is different but if the nba has protocols and rules for everyone even though jays one hundred percent right yes if a guy just needs a couple hours to be with his family. And let's be honest. I mean there are tons of people that are breaking rotavirus virus protocols all over the place and realize they're doing that here and there if he needed that moment to get a break. Unfortunately the league can't treat him differently than somebody else who may be handling some of the issues in the country a little bit more strongly or isn't as affected as much as kyri. Unfortunately there is a one-size-fits-all rule for the nba. Even though it may be should be individualized in situations like innate. Need to do what they need to do that. They put the protocols in place whatever the punishment is or whatever they find what they need to handle it accordingly indeed. Let's move on this morning and talk a bunch of sports with taylor. He's espn lead soccer analyst. He's also one of the co host. Oh.
Let's get real about the fake crowd noise at NFL games
"Revisit the Rams and Seattle Seahawks game. I hated watching the Seahawks game because it was there are so many moments where the crowd fake crowd noise was really really loud above the broadcasters like Tom and all these trying to talk on the sidelines and you couldn't hear him cuz a stupid fake crowd noise, which is even weirder cuz you know that the people on the sidelines Jared Goff Russell Wilson, he came backed up. They don't hear fake crowd noise only people watching the game on T. Hear the fake crowd noise. I hate it so much. I'd rather honestly hear the noise of people on the sidelines. Or people at the line of scrimmage yelling. I was going crazy at one point on the sidelines. We couldn't hear the guy at all cuz of the fake crowd noise and I A friend of mine from high school plays for the LA Rams and I'm going to wait till he retires to ask him this question, but I want to have them on the Shelf someday to be like hey, what do you like to play a playoff game with an empty Stadium? I know the NFL doesn't really seem to answer that question just yet. There's a reason why you haven't heard anybody complaining about it, but I'm so desperate to know like what's it like to play in NFL game? I'll be damned meaningful playoff game a meaningful NFL game with nobody in the crowd and you can hear everything. It sounds like an empty gymnasium or an empty gym. Like I I want to hear what that sounds like and what what it's like to play in that circumstance and I just hated the fake crowd noise in the Seattle Seahawks Rams game
NFL game predictions: Buffalo Bills vs. Indianapolis Colts
"I game one. Oh five saturday. Currently it's six and a half. The colts visiting the bills. It opened as a seven point game. Sixty percent of the bats. Sixty percent of the money is on the bills. Michael will start with you where you going on this one but my number say i should go with the coast but i like the bills all week. I'm gonna go against and based on what you just gave me. You steered me off the ledge. I'm gonna go with buffalo. I think buffalo's the second best red zone team on third down in football this year. They're scoring at a rapid rate. I think brian daboll were really have a good handle on. The eib reflects defense. And when i look at philip rivers the last two games in january that he's played the baltimore game that they want was fifty two degrees but when he plays below forty one degrees. He's played three games. He's lost all three. I'm gonna go buffalo and since you me that the team wins their cover. So that i'm gonna pick tick. Buffalo galvin lead dude. Colts have ability to play down and up to teams. Let's go philip. Rivers five and two against the spread road. Playoff games rivers four. No wild card weekend and bills have the worst run defense of any team in the playoffs this year. Jonathan taylor to the todd town called cisco to keep it closer. We can't let it get away from of a ballgame all take the points. Bharti's going bills guppies with colts pat. I'm going with colts. Just because i don't want to have to wear Area who wanna
Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Indianapolis Colts this weekend
"Look the american football conference. The playoffs are not intact as of yet the steelers just a few weeks ago where the number one seed in the american football conference now. They are the number three seed after three straight losses. Look this team yes. They are in the playoffs. But they are fighting for momentum redemption and seating. And it's very important that they take care of their own business by beating the indianapolis colts which is going to be a tough task. The colts are coming in at ten and four. They ride a fantastic defense behind a forest buckner and also darius leonard and very capable offense as well led by the old wily veteran by the name of philip rivers. Yes they know him. They have been around him a lot in the last seventeen seasons and rivers has faced off against ben roethlisberger as well remember he was the guy who was supposed to go to the steelers and number eleven but ben roethlisberger was picked instead because he went earlier on to the new york giants and then was promptly traded to the sago charters. Thank you ally manning for refusing the play in san diego. You're whiny ways really helped pave the way for to super bowl champions in the pittsburgh steelers in that era.
Philip Rivers and Kirk Cousins' Season Outlook
"This has become a big part of the season. The the quarterback lawyers out there so it became a topic that i talked about on monday because of the romo defending brady and basically criticizing arians but it seems like a lot of the athletes. Hate the Law offices of romo and collins worth all of these guys that seem to protect the quarterback but then it was another level for the monday night. Game with wentz where people were so mad. Anytime brian greasy would be like well actually was a screen and they missed the block here and it was on again and it looks a lot of guys i used to work with. Espn like name is. They know they are. They got so mad about the. The defense of any of these. Quarterbacks is fair when it comes to the stuff you're at home your home just like the rest of us are watching these games. They give me a break of the tampa thing and then wentz. Yeah i mean. I don't think either quarterbacks in a good situation right now when you look at those two guys. But i also think there's some i mean to to absolve either. One of them of blame is crazy to me. Neither one of our plan well So that to me. It's kind of more a little bit more nuance there. I don't think either one of them are in the right system. That fits what they do right now and the other side of it as well. But that's where you find yourself. Your job is to execute with the situation. You find yourself in. i think carson's little carson's is is is a longer story About everything that's going on there with him to me. He looks like somebody who's kind of just completely lost his confidence you know. See what a guy it out in hoops curious around like in football. We talk about guys to start guiding the ball right. They don't they don't have any confidence or trust and you're really trying to guide the ball and then you end up with some really bad messes. I don't know if a shooter go through a slump. What what that looks like. But that's what it looks like with carson. There's nothing like a quarterback who's lost confidence it really. I think eventually like if you're a decent shooter not just going to not be able to shoot for year. Because you're bummed out. I mean paul george in the bubble so whatever But i don't know what the excuse was another playoff games. I think the biggest thing that you'll notice basketball is a guy who was a guy coming back from some kind of injury and he's good to go it's not like he doesn't trust his knee. And you played a lot of basketball. He's just stuff around the rim. he's inbetween decisions. Sometimes you just forget to drive usually remember used to drive past guys but eventually all that stuff goes away. I don't think there's anything as long lasting in basketball is there is is. The quarterback is completely lost. And then you'll see guys who lose so much confidence they start changing the way they've played like that's one of the crazy things about the cousin story. Is that cousins. Was somebody who took no chances to kind of make his way into the game. And then he had some decent statistical seasons and then he actually started. I think chuck in the ball a lot last year. Know what he actually came around. And then you know. He has dug game after they beat the saints. Which wasn't surprising to me. And then the beginning of this year. He was chuckling at all over the place and they were terrible for complete like changed who they became as a team with cook and yet cousins was great. Cousins will have these moments where he's like two completely different guys which is my biggest with ever putting him up in higher group with with some other people have them up there but cousins to me like in some areas. There's some similarities to rivers. And that i always felt like with rivers man if if if he hits that that hot stretch for him when he get. The postseason like flat goes agree. Example flack over sixteen seventeen games in any season his career. Like you're not. You're not going to buy that as a change of quarterback but he always had that ceiling for manufacturing it for three or four weeks. He's capable of doing that in off they go. I've always kinda put rivers in that category. That if he could get in the tournament and just had to have one of those hot streaks he could carry them and cousins is kind of like the the next version of that were I don't trust kirk over sixteen games but in a three or four game stretch. If you've got the good version kirk cousins like that's that's dangerous. He could actually do something. I always like rivers way more cousins. I wouldn't say this version of rivers but you know he's more accomplished definitely more -ccomplish but i'm just still saying that that rivers his hot stretches lasted longer than any of kirks hot stretches. But i've seen rivers put together three unbelievable games and then just added nowhere. You're like dude what what happened. Like just a clunker can happen so that that to me is where i find a little bit of the similarity there.
Philip Rivers Passes Dan Marino For Fifth Place On NFL's All-Time Passing Yards List
"38 years old. With a restart on his career. In Indianapolis, and as much as Philip Rivers is generally a wild ride, and he is I. I've called him a poor man spread far for years. He's a gun slinger. He's got different arm angles. Obviously, he's Confident guy, but he generally has a couple moments in each game where he gunslingers to the wrong team. He nearly had an interception in this game and had a couple of balls that were off the mark. But that's that's rears. I mean to be boring, if if it was steady right that wouldn't fit Philip Rivers. Well, like it or not. He is headed to the Hall of Fame when he retires. Every time I say this people get all fired up, but it's the truth. On Thursday night. He moved into Fourth place Now Excuse me, Fifth place all time on the NFL's Career passing list. Passing one Dan Marino. With 11 yard completion. This was early in the game. He only needed a handful of yards. To get past Dan Marino. And he was well over 300. He's now it's 61,666. That's a lot of sixes 61,666 for his career. And there are only four quarterbacks who have more passing yards in their careers than one Philip Rivers. You know all about Brett Farve. Peyton Manning. Tom Brady, Drew Brees. They're so playing, they're still bound to keep racking up more yards as his Philip Rivers. All for those guys. Either Hall of Famers or bound for the Hall of Fame. So his rivers now there's a big difference, obviously, because he has not won a Super Bowl and generally doesn't have that same success in the postseason. There's still time those of you who are Colts fans. You know, earlier this year I think it was weak three was definitely the first month he became Just the sixth quarterback in NFL history. To throw at least 400 touchdown passes. And he's likely so he's sitting in that six play spot right now he's likely to pass the in Rio before the season is up and work his way to the top five. So then he's in the top five all time and passing yards and all time in touchdown passes. Of course, he's going to the Hall of Fame.
Colts grab tiebreaker in AFC South by beating Titans 34-17
"It is an apple as in Tennessee sure the AFC south we did six and three following the colts thirty four seventeen win over the Titans in Nashville Philip rivers completed twenty nine of thirty nine passes for three hundred eight yards and a touchdown as the colts handed the Titans their third loss in four games since the five AM start Indianapolis entered the game leading the NFL in fewest yards allowed before limiting Tennessee to two hundred ninety four total yards about ninety below its season average Derrick Henry ran for a hundred and three yards on nineteen carries for the Titans who didn't score after halftime Ryan Tannehill was just fifteen of twenty seven for one hundred forty seven yards and a TD I'm Dave Ferrie

And Eric Bledsoe and drop the drop the battle on the West Virginia I mean come on Ryan you. You can accidentally when a title with that much talent. Yeah that's true. But you're still trying to get eighteen year olds to he knows that they're there for one year and he out. On just being a Kentucky apologised. All right that's Fine Ryan you should lead with I'm a Kentucky apologised there. I went down the roster. You just start to think sometimes you Jamal Jamal. Murray. Like. Guys, you don't even get to start who get drafted. and. That's when you got a lot of talent there I let me take a break Philip rivers is set to join us the colts quarterback and also we'll check in with our good buddy Chris Haines from the bubble because there was talk yesterday by some of the players on the Celtics and the raptors maybe sitting out a game in protest to what happened to Jacob Blake who was shot seven times in the back. Mina Kimes' Eclectic Career
"We want to start out by talking about your career which is really interesting to me. You've made some big changes moving from investigative business journalism too long form sports writing and fighting to hosting podcasting and commentating and these are all really. Hartfield to break into. Could you tell us about these transitions? And you know was was sports journalism something. You're always headed towards. None of these jobs were ones that I was doors or ones that I ever aspired to do. You know I kind of fell into all them So now that I've alienated. Everyone right from the trump wants to do these things Yeah no I don. I was going to be like you guys like arts writer or more cultural criticisms kind of interesting to me out of college and then I fell into business. Journalism Durin Internship for magazine called Fortune. Small Business got job at Fortune magazine out of college. Writing about finance and investing moved to doing features than doing investigative features moved to Bloomberg News whereas they're investigative team and I. I've always loved sports but I never aspired to be in sports as a career. Never ASPIRE TO BE ON TELEVISION. Never aspired to do commentary. Espn reached out to me. I'll just didn't really seem like an option for me. Just didn't seem like something that somebody like me would even do quite frankly But but along those lines I don't think business journalism seemed like an option to me. Either I mean when I was in college is just didn't occur to me so. Espn Kinda made the Kimball. The idea for me. They hired me in two thousand fourteen as a features writer. After reading your piece about Your Dad yes. So I wrote a personal essay about football and editor their name. Meghan Ren- greenwell riche down. So you you seem. You seemed like football tweet about it a lot a lot of dumb stuff. She didn't say that. But that's accurate depiction of my twitter and So I was kind of like extensively a serious financial journalist at the time but Football and sports more. Broadly was my passion. So I I was worth twenty nine or something I suppose. Yeah decided to make the leap which was pretty terrifying. What did you grow up wanting to be like as a kid Painter Oh yeah and I still pay not well not a good painter but I do like watercolor sometimes of football players really. Yeah so do you draw them to then or yeah. I do a lot of things I just get I I know insane and then I sometimes I just get a gift. Like a little watercolor set or something. And I'll just use it up and then buy another one. That's what football players do. You have a series of Philip rivers just because I like you so emotive super splitting looking and then I did them all and I said why. Don't want these. So I just auctioned off for Homeless Charity here that works with homelessness that were considered roads a great compassion direction and I was shocked that somebody wanted them and result out of money so I did it again this year. Oh my gosh you do this regularly. Wow that's cool. How much money did you make if you don't well this year? I did so. I did a Korean while. I am obsessed with the kicker young white coup. Oh yeah after the night of three onside kicks legendary night in. Nfl history. And I did a few others like marshawn lynch disguise I liked and I think I sold five of them. Maybe something five or six but I raised thirty five hundred dollars. Wow Wow you definitely interesting. Like if you're selling a five hundred dollars like let's add painter to the bile thank you.
Tom Brady Becomes a Tampa Bay Buccaneer
"Because I don't want to run out of time I do want to touch on what transpired in patriot world today yes Tom Brady is now Tampa Bay bucs the it is borderline old news now because it's a couple days add the reverberations will go on for a very long period of time there after but the news itself is not breaking today you did have a couple of moves that were breaking news today in New England give me a read on the two sidings the patriots had brain a couple of the guy I talk play for my jets this year not a bad player as a matter of fact and the return of Brian Hoyer to potentially compete for the starting quarterback job there in New England give me your thoughts on both to two months yeah I think they're directional moves I think as soon as you know sort of the cold side Philip rivers you know a lot of people around here we're thinking that you know reunion with lawyer or maybe even Jacoby percent was up author bility I think the horrible exactly he's got he's got great knowledge of this offense he knows that locker room he does the coaching staff so he'll come in and help you know if not compete for the starting job to always be a great sounding boards for Jarrett Stidham you know who's kind of a presumptive you know successor to Brady a fourth round pick out of Auburn last year so a great locker room guy you know like I said very knowledgeable and you know one thing about Brian Williams when the patriots won the Super Bowl against the rams two years ago he was universally wanted by his teammates for his ability to run the scout team and kind of morph into the opposing quarterback down the stretch in the playoffs run so really good guy really good signing I just just make a lot of sense for him to be here you know Brandon Copeland the guy who did the patriots has seen up close for a number of years now where they pay it you know in the at the I got at the Coachella tickets Oct glowingly about the past seems like the patriots have a guy you know good special teams guy and also has that versatility that the patriots love in their life back together can rush the passer he can drop in coverage you can play the run picnic walk a lot of guys in free agency this week Kyle van Noy Jamie Collins in the Robert so really need to restock that line backing core and feel good start getting brand coke on a guy who they had interesting last offseason but weren't able to

Jaguars trade former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles to Chicago
"Let's get started with Adam schefter on this breaking news regarding former Super Bowl. Winning quarterback Nick foles like will be reunited with Matt Nagy on his way to Chicago. What can you tell us about? Details choosy moments ago the Jacksonville Jaguars in Chicago bears agreed on a trade that will send the bears compensatory fourth round. Pick the one hundred forty eighth overall selection to Jacksonville in return for Nick Volks. Who COMES INTO CHICAGO AND KNOWS THE COACHING STAFF? Where he worked with Matt Nagy in Philadelphia he worked with. He worked with John De Filippo in Philadelphia. He wrote with Bill Laser Philadelphia. And they believe that it's going to be a source of comfort for them to get that done and that will be a big move for the Chicago bears. They felt like they had to get a veteran. The Jaguar spoke to the colts about a trade for Nick foles. The colts decided to go with Philip Rivers. They talked to the bears. The bears get done. That trade at foals is owed a lot of money. What do you know right now about how they redo this deal to make it work for everyone? Well listen. They could sit down and restructure that contract and perhaps they do that but the deal just came down as we speak and so we're waiting to see

"I wanted to get go on the record or their band wagon or off. You pick on Lakers to start you still picking up I. I plead the fifth all this man. I can't pick up. Sorry ladies is in the middle of the jury. This man has turned himself. You started the year hold up. I sat here before. The year started when Leonard the best player in basketball like the free towers above the League. Lebron's doing amazing things but when the Games matter Kawai I has their hearts all of them he snatches it. He stopped defense. He scores on offense and his team win. I told you wherever Hawaii goes. They win the chip. If Toronto hold on to Ronald Right now second in the east brother how would they be with Leonard and they don't lose anything they keep the payment ATCO. Why Hi? They'd be favored. He went to the clippers. Their favourite told you before the season. I'm not trying to hear your Patrick. Beverley excuses after the fact the coaching excuses trade headline excuses Kawais going to win in the end because he's the best player in basketball. He's basketball with the very best when it matters least and he's a step ahead of everyone everyone when it matters most look Stephen a before the season I told you. That's a forty eight win team. They're just dropping Paul George and Kawhi Leonard into a forty forty eight win team. And they got Marcus Morris. Now I agree with you about the dogs but you knew that before the season started. Look if there's a non defensive player fire who in the NBA. You could say. That's a dog it's Lou. Will that do lou. Williams is even though he's not like knowing that he's an offense player but the way he plays offense is even like that. Patrick Beverley now Marcus Morris. To go with the superstars Stephen Marcus. Morris is not a shot blocker. They need shot-blocking. It's not like the clippers addressed. What what they really need? Ideally because the Lakers have those trees they got Dwight Howard and Javale McGee giving you the best versions they could of themselves to go with. Anthony Davis that's not on a good matchup for the clippers. Clippers could use them interior help. That's not really marcus. Morris about six eight doesn't block shots. No it's not about. They got what they needed at the deadline or kept was the Lakers needed away from them. It's that they have a really well coached team. You said it with dogs. All over the place led by CO Y. Lead it. That's not it that's not at first of all. I'm getting really sick and tired of the Raven about Leonard. I know. He's a two-time be. He's a superstar. One atop plays plays a game. He's not the best by the way you know what. He wasn't around at a finals for five years before he got to the Eastern Conference with Lebron James. So I don't WanNA he'll it'll lucky bounce against the Philadelphia seventy six. Don't get me started. But I'll give him credit. Where credit's due? Here's what you're missing about Morris Max and this is why kids I sit up there and look at the Lakers honestly like this anymore. Morris is an additional body to defend against Labranche. You Are you're gonNA throw beverly shots beverly at him. You'RE GONNA throw Paul Georgia. Then you're gonNA throats Kawhi Leonard at him and now you're gonNA throw more. You got four different from bodies that you could throw at the playmaker. That is Lebron James. What should what's your secondary? Backup Plan Lakers. What's a backup the plant Rob Pelinka? I don't believe they have won the clippers which means I gotta sit up there and hope I would hope Max. I got a hold dabran James.

PODCAST gas with Matt. Barnes and Stephen Jackson Kevin Durant was there and this is his quote in. Okay see I played with a lot of athletes didn't play with a lot of skilled guys. Not like shooters ball handlers. Lers I was like I need to change. This was before the season even started. I was tired of having to be the only guy that can make threes make jump shots and consistently make them. All of this has is created the question about whether or not it was right or wrong for Kevin Durant who basically right now is rehabbing and hanging out watching basketball just like you and me got a lot of time on his hands and he's not afraid to speak his mind. The question his is that Okay Stephen. A AMAC's talked about whether or not it was right or wrong to make these public comments about former teammates. The lashing Ashi and Okay See K. D. average twenty eight or fifty percent shooting from the field at thirty eight percent shooting from three point range. Secondly when he went to golden estate secondly when he went to Golden State okay. It wasn't like he said up there and spectator. He took he was the main number three and more in Portland over during the the final juror number. Three here's the key. Here's the key. He sits up their game. Want out of finals. He shoots a jumper and Lebron James Face and then collapses hands and start guarding Lebron James. And he's like less go as if to say all right I got a crew now now is meeting you at Eh. That's that's what he was saying was saying statement but you gotta remember but to him it was because the whole deal is in his mind his mind. Max If if I got cats that you know can't close because they can't shoot all right then it's real easy for you to come at me like you all that. But when I ain't got to worry about that and I get to focus on me and you go do now and that's what he was finals he made about it had he stayed in. Okay see and they picked up Jamal Crawford. Whoever you want to pick up to do something like that that would have been one thing? And that's not what he did. Lebron Louise knew going into that season and into the finals. Lebron and the cavs had no shots to win because those warriors were not going going to lose you cannot add team. But that wasn't his agenda is one thing I get it. I understand that when you talk about it. We agreed as disagreement. What I'm saying again? Listen to what he said on all that bonds and Steven Jackson and go back and watch his demeanor in game one of the NBA finals when he was up against the browns as he was saying. Now I got you say why are we come at you. What you do the same way Max roundabout about way in a roundabout way to make your small this thing that Kowa sorta looks like he's trying to do Lebron right now? What's up here are com? Let's get it all at the difference. The difference balance. There's now there's morality look I. You're arguing doing their Coop Susani K. D. truth or at least his true is true Dow. I'm not arguing that what I started out by saying keep it ninety. Give yourself a little wiggle well room because one hundred. He's doing two things. He's telling himself that he needed more help. It's like Yeah Okay D- But Katy's he's greatest days ahead of him 'cause to win Brooklyn he's going to actually have to lead a team. That may not win without him to the championship. That's one and two what is it. What was the difference between K. D. quote unquote telling the Truth and tell it on himself and Lebron James Losing in his mind embiid so defeated whether it's with the concession speech in Boston after they won the Eastern Conference finals and he knew he had to go against Golden State all of you new years later when JR Smith messed up by forgetting that the school was todd? Who are you not telling yourself then? No I will tell you. The difference. lebaron tried to stack the deck in his favor but never succeeded to the point where no one else has a chance. It really did comes Braun having to lead a team name that if you substituted Lebron with another superstar maybe they don't win if you substituted K. D. with another superstar that warriors team still wins. According to me. You may feel differently. But I don't think you can add if you had Paul George or letter to a seventy three win team without really taking anything away they will certainly smash the League. That's that's what I'm saying. That doesn't prove the same thing he seems. Well think you prove you're you're saying that and I can't sit up. The summarily dismissed your point. Because it's not like they they wouldn't have had they would have been in the finals without question. But what I'm saying is there's levels to this and let me tell you let's say example. It's Paul George who I love. And he's a star on this league we all know that but a poor Georgia joined the warriors. Even though you could make an argument they would have one. Maybe six or seven games. I don't think you would have heard a concession speech each from the opposition of the conference after they won the conference finals. The way you heard it when the K. D. Because K. D..

"That's the end of the season. And that's when you lose bobby. They wouldn't super bowl even as right the giants super bowls and the Eagles Super Bowl where they lost those are the three they lost. We're basically the same as all the other super bowls. It was a one score game at the end. You'RE NOT GONNA win those every time some time time. You'RE GONNA lose. Sometimes you're going to lose but the Randy Moss team when he put a great when he's given Brady a great receiver especially when Brady was in his prime long ago by the way Brady's balled all doubt. He knows he's a gay manager. Now who can be big on third down in the playoffs. He can't take your team. They're like Patrick Mahomes. There's someone like that. You're looking at that number looking at personnel missing. I really don't think you are if you're going to maintain that opinion about where he has a. He hasn't hasn't had much to work with this. I just think this particular season. I'm not saying there wasn't any slippage but I think this particular season he went others have could have adjudged him completely unfairly. He was giving nothing to work with this year. This remember bobby wasn't bobby wasn't the one that show when I said this. Keep in mind and Antonio Brown would all all the noise coming his way with the chargers. That's what makes us tomorrow right now with. The charges were levied against Antonio Brown. Tom Brady a married man with children. Invited Antonio Brown and stay. That's how desperate he was to to have a wide receiver. He'll go let this man living in Seoul and I'm not. I'm not I'm not. I'm not taking get any guilt. I'm not attaching any guilt to Antonio Brown's of I don't know what happened. I'm just saying do those issues and Tom Brady was so desperate lower receiver he was willing to give their Tony over our free room and board the one game. If four catches sixty yards and touchdown. That's all you need. Rainy needs is the greatest receiver since Jerry Rice. And then he'll be fine quarterback. Say That Josh Gordon match that would have sufficed if he could have stayed for now. Ri- yeah I mean that's it yes of course if Brady has elite weapons. It looked better when I did look good. Would all be honest drew brees. We've seen his accuracy is the same as ever much. The ball probably but mike is the same as ever. Tom Brady is missing. Guys everywhere you can miss a guy how the first thing your take on. ESPN RADIO AND ESPN news. I'm Jason Fitz. We can add another quarterback to this conversation that we have breaking news from Adam Schefter. This is the tweet end of an era. Los Angeles chargers quarterback Philip Rivers have mutually agreed that rivers will enter free agency and not return to the the team for the twenty twenty season. So at this point what we know is that the chargers who went in and gave their head coach and extension. This off season are entering the offseason with no no quarterback at this point foot. Philip rivers will not be their quarterback entering next season so Philip rivers now becomes part of this conversation. Is Everybody's looking again. I Argued With my goal of junior in your morning about this on on Golic and Wingo. We can have the conversation all day long about what we think's happening in. This is really happening. Because that hasn't signed quickly enough. I still think is going to get assigned and it's going to end much of this conversation. Because what did we see. It wasn't that long ago we were talking about Zeke. Who and the questions in Zeke's contract negotiation Jason With Jerry Jones? Would it turned into some lingering effects that hurt their relationship. Well Zeke got paid right and the mini. He got paid. Everything seemed to be fine moving forward. Eight eight eight seven nine three seven seven six Chris in Illinois. Who should did start for the cowboys? Give us your take. I believe that Got A good army can Spain pocket. And he's got a good Sandra now but the conversation on Tom Brady Stephen I think he's off the mark Tom Brady take can take. Anybody has a defensive offensive and work with them. That's just who he is. That's how Tom Brady hit his not that he's that great but a quarterback should be able to work with anybody. He has always CAINE. Thanks for the call. I think he has worked with anybody. Has I mean that's Do we think that the Patriots would have one more or less games. Last year. It Brady wasn't the starting quarterback I mean the answer to that is less. The problem is quarterback take a just a huge dip at some point. Let's remember Peyton. Manning won a couple of super bowls with the broncos. And you could argue that the broncos won in spite of peyton manning not because of peyton manning as great as Payton's career was was towards the end of his career. He wasn't near the quarterback. The presumption is that Brady will hit that same wall because we're used to seeing penza synthetic motor oils.

"I don't think benching rivers is this. I don't think you've bench rivers to get a feel for whether or not tyrod Taylor is. The future is part of the future plans. Because I don't think he is. I don't think tyrod is more than a stopgap answer quarterback so so if they decide to draft a quarterback in twenty twenty you go into the season I think potentially with tyrod as the starter and you tell them you have to earn every start and you're going to have the young potential first round. Pick breathing down your neck but tyrod is not a long-term answer a quarterback. He just isn't I'm not saying he is what I'm saying is I think you've evaluated tyrod. You know what tyrod is so this isn't about evaluating tyrod for next year. It's about corral in the locker room and saving potentially saving the locker room because you've got a bunch of guys who were free agents at the end of the year next year. And if you're you're preaching one thing and doing another you might have an issue with getting some of those guys to resign so I think you have to look at the big picture here and I think you say okay okay. Does tyrod makes better. Probably not but is he gonNA hurt us. No He's not going to hurt us and he might make different enough to catch some people off guard. Without necessarily changing the playbook more of will he can pick up a first down if we need it. He can run the wall in the in the end zone if we needed. He gives us a wrinkle. He makes us just different enough that we might be able to catch some people napping without having to change the playbook for him entirely so Do I think they will bench him. I don't think they will. You asked if I was Anthony Lane but I do it. I said yes. I don't think he will I don't thank you. I don't think the start streak is something that you take into account in a situation like this because there are bigger things at play but If that was me I would. I don't expect that they will But I again. I don't think you're doing it to evaluate tyrod because I think you know a tyrod is. I think you're doing it because you feel like you need to show the rest of the locker room that everybody will be held accountable when they're making mistakes right. Now there's no sign that rivers is going to be held accountable. There's they just keep throwing out there and he keeps making mistakes and at some point. Something's gotTa give but then then you look around the locker room and you see guys like Thomas. Miss Davis still getting a hundred percent of the snaps and see guys like Ray Sean Jenkins still getting bulk of the snap. So you know I don't know if it's a whole thing about questioning I'm Lou losing credibility because I mean they haven't had any credibility with their personnel decisions up to this point if you're benching rivers the five games to go oh it just seems like a I mean in my opinion just seems like a bad. Look you're benching your hall of fame. Qu- your potential in quarterback in a lost season you. I don't know I don't I don't have a lot of faith in front office from top to bottom. So if the coaches lose credibility for not benching rivers I say winded. They have credibility at all. You know yeah that's that's fair. Yeah I mean they're definitely they're playing some of the wrong guys in the wrong. They're splitting snaps the wrong way it certain positions for sure There's no way of knowing you know what their credibility is in the locker room but I just think you gotta be a look the team in the eye and I right now. I'm Russia. The coaches can do that. How how can you look in the eye and say you're you know you're holding people accountable and we're we're emphasizing protecting the football when rivers is the defense is playing ask often rivers is throwing the ball away left and right at just? I don't know like I said I don't think they'll do it. I'd be surprised if they did it. And I can see arguments for both sides sides. I can see the wall rivers at least earned the right to play out the rest of the season. I can see that argument. I don't hate it. I don't love it but I get it so I think they're valid points on both sides but if it was me I'd at least be talking about it if not doing it because I think it's worth it warrants at least a conversation. Yeah and I think to add to your point. I think if you were if you were Anthony Lynn. This whole thing with Thomas Davis and racial Jenkins wouldn't be happening anyway. So you know you can't have half Anthony Lynn. Half Jamie right you would completely change it all over so so to that degree that's true and We know that charts actually going to try to get tyrod in the game against Kansas City Gilbert. Monsanto had said that they were trying to plan some place for Tyrod Package for them. Yeah yeah they have plays inside the five they had some down the field plays he said but none of them really worked out situations situations never really came up so you know. He said he wants to get them involved. He's not saying we're GONNA play tyrod fulltime. Obviously but they'd like to get him on the field more. It seems like yeah. Yeah I mean which I think in and of itself says a lot about the way. They're looking rivers right now. Because I think I don't think there was a discussion about getting tyrod on the field Because as I don't think anybody wanted to discuss them rivers about taking him off the field in the red zone so the fact that they're they're designing plays tyrod and they're They're thinking about ways to get him on the field. I think speaks to kind of how how they're viewing the way we're playing and they WANNA see if they can get something out of somebody else in the red zone or maybe create some other plays somewhere else with someone else even if it means you know pissing rivers off because you're taking off the field because you know he doesn't WanNa come off the field you think. His teammates are starting to lose faith in Rivers. I gotta believe there are at least some that are I mean how could you not. How could you watch him play like this for the majority of last fourteen games and not wonder if he's still gives you the best chance to win You know he put them in a ten point hole in Oakland single handedly put them attend point haunt Oakland and those points hurt because they could have been going into that last game twenty that last drive going you know being up twenty four to ten with five minutes to go and the last drive. In in the raiders. Game doesn't mean anything. Now he put them in a hole in Kansas City because he was turning the ball over same situation so there. I'm sure there are guys who are my guesses. Some of the younger guys who were killing killing themselves and and playing really well particularly on defense. Who feel like they're doing enough to win? And they're seeing the offense shit the bed left and right. I'm sure there are some of those guys. Some of the marquee guys were looking at it saying you know we should be winning right now. We're not and it's his fault so I I don't see how guys aren't losing faith in him based on the way he's playing it just it's just a bad look and it's gotta be annoying guys because they are playing defense especially is playing well enough to win most of these games. Yeah I think teams definitely rolling with rivers but you you know. He's the leader but washed the game. Let alone been on. The field cannot deny the obvious decline over the last few games so I think it's natural to question rivers sustainability with. There's recent play. I think you do that with every player on the field when somebody is stinking it up. You obviously questioned. What is wrong with this guy? Why is he struggling? Can I trust him next to me. And I think it's totally different with a quarterback but you know I think this team will stick with them and they're gonNA they're GonNa Bench rivers at all but I don't know if if there's going to be an uprising I think you know nobody's going into Lens Office and saying. Hey Gimme tyrod. Let's go. It's time for him to take over. But I know that everybody including every fan every player. Anybody has got a question how long Philip rivers can play because this team lives and dies on rivers right arm and right now. They've died more than they've lived so they're foreign seven. They've got five games left. This is pretty much a lost season now and You know I think I think it's natural to question question him and maybe lose a little faith but I think a lot of the veterans will keep that locker room together. I don't think there's going to be any in-fighting I don't think it's going to break apart the locker room mm-hmm but I I think it's natural to question rivers play right now yet and I'll just say this without revealing too much. I did speak to somebody who would know. And he suggested suggested that there are some people in the locker room who are losing faith or questioning rivers right now so it's definitely happening to what extent I don't know who I don't know I just know that it's happening. Yeah and I think I think that's natural. I don't think they're wrong for doing that. I think everybody's got to be questioned right now. This is a somebody's somebody's got to be responsible for. This and rivers is part of the problem. I Lynn is part of the problem. The offensive line is part of the problem. There's a lot of blame to go around but I think it's it's a perfectly natural and I don't think that's that big of a deal to start questioning rivers because he absolutely deserves said he hasn't been playing well. Hey maybe you're sit around and they finish nine and seven and things look great eight and sunny but maybe they squeak player. Who knows? I don't even WanNA finish that sentence. But and nine and seven and they feel they feel a little bit better about the season and You can start to trust rivers a little bit more so which now begs the question. Where the chargers go from here in twenty twenty? This is not going to be a popular answer. But that's what we do here so I think it's time to move on and I think it's time to move on for a couple for reasons and we've kind of talked about this in a few different shows this season already. I think the biggest reason that it's time to move on You know he's obviously he's thirty seven and he's not playing playing well but they're headed a new stadium and I don't know how well rivers resonates with La in terms of the fan base or any team or player in that respect for that matter because nobody likes anybody right now right. But I'm just saying like Nick. He is San Diego Guy. He is most closely connected to and associated with San Diego. And I don't no that going into going into the new stadium with thirty-seven-year-old quarterback coming off of a down year. Who has in the past then vocal about not not necessarily wanting to be in La and who really hasn't done much in the play offs? I don't know if that's a good idea. I don't know if that's it's a marketing plan that this team is ready to build around. Which is why I said a few weeks ago that I think there was a discussion had before the season? It was either the team saying you know. We're considering moving on or river saying hey I might call this a season after this. I might call career after this season. Something thing is going on. That is keeping them from having honest dialogue about a contract extension with rivers and I think both sides are probably pretty pretty close to being ready to move on and I think the team specially needs a new face. A new name. Somebody they can get hopefully galvanized the the market with breath and build around for the foreseeable future in the new stadium. And I don't know that rivers is that guy. I don't know that they can get the kind of push and Buzz from marketing standpoint with rivers that they could with somebody else so I think it's time to move on. I think it's business decision as much as it is football season and I know they they say publicly they wanNA keep him and he said publicly. He wants to play in the new stadium. But I'm not sure that you know that. Four or five hour commute everyday eight to work as something he wants to do and I you know. I think he's gotTa be seriously considering retiring with the way he's playing he even said recently he's going to take some time off after the season to figure out if continuing to play is the right thing to do so I think it's time for both both sides to move on. Yeah you know I. I Love Philip Rivers. I've had the unique opportunity to talk to him. I've interviewed him twice. And he's just the best..

"Jamie is at lightning underscore round. And we're going to talk about a few things today. Of course we're going to talk about Philip rivers and there's of course a lot to unpack there but before we do. I'll let's run through these donations. I nation is from Marcus Caribbean. Who's been listening and donating for a long time? Thank you Marcus. We appreciate the very generous donation. Thanks Marcus next Samuel Gelber who left the note. He said my biggest fears are spiders. Weird pains in my leg and you two are going to pull a John. Genero stopped covering the team will thank you Sam. I appreciate it and we had the same fears as well. Next donation is from Antonio Stevens. I haven't had time to listen to this season. Caught the Green Bay. Recap good work as usual guys will thank you Antonio Thank you for checking in and thank you for the donation and catch up on those other episodes would you next is Stephen Pizano. Who says happy? Two hundred yes two hundred episodes. We've surpassed it to to now now hard to believe where we started from where we started that. We've got two hundred episodes pretty amazing next one. Is Frank Blakely who says keep up the good work thank you. Frankly frankly thank you. Frankly blakely donation and thank you for listening and Marcus his Sam Antonio Stephen Frank were all Thanksgiving's coming up. We're all thankful for you guys. Everybody listening and of course those who donate so before we get into rivers Some other news that is probably worth mentioning and that is a lot of familiar. Faces are on their way a lot of players who have I've been out for. The chargers A derwin James was designated for return this week. sounds like Adrian Phillips and Derwin and James are both going to return Russell Kun is practicing full this week. I believe. Also Jeremy Davis and Justin Jones and Justin Jackson are are full participants in practice or at least have been the last two days so lots of guys getting healthy some reinforcements on the way which this team needs at four and seven so nice to have these guys back and hopefully they can help right the ship to some degree down the down the stretch with these last five games. Yeah those of you who are fans of the tank. Uh this is bad news for you guys And it seems that the chargers are probably destined to just not make the playoffs. Get a middle of the road. Pick but play pretty good at the end of the year which should be exciting so we mentioned a little bit earlier. This we're GONNA be talking about rivers on this show because that was kind of taken all the headlines after that Monday night loss and deservingly so because it was a tough one because ultimately the team fell short again because Philip Upriver so we gotta talk about him talk about his recent performances because they have not been great Jamie. No they haven't and you know there's been a lot of focus on on the last two weeks in particular were thrown seven receptions and he's cost them points and put them in big holes early in games in all of that as a negative in. It's definitely worth unpacking. But I think it's worth pointing out that it's not just a two week thing. You know most most chargers fans are prone to saying well. Well you can't throw them away after one week you can't you can't say he's done after one week. It's just one week. He was playing at an MVP level just last year. You can't you can't just back after one week. Well if you go back and you look over. His last. Fourteen Games rivers has eighteen touchdowns and twenty interceptions so this is not a two game. Something it's not a three-game thing. This is something that started late in the two thousand eighteen season His place started decline after. Melvin Gordon got hurt last year it got really really bad. The last two or three weeks twenty eighteen season we all remember the team stinking it up and barely being able to move the ball in Denver at the end of the year last year. We remember that Sunday night. Game against or Saturday game. I think it was against Baltimore. Were they harassed him and puts the hell out of him and he turn the ball over and he looked like he couldn't get the ball down the field. This is a continuing theme. And I know he's had some good games mixed in there but The overall body work over over these last fourteen games games is concerning to say the least. He's making bad decisions He's making physical errors that you're not usually used to seeing him make a missing wide open receivers at times. Times overthrowing balls under throwing balls. He's having a hard time driving balls in the tight windows at times just A. He looks like a thirty eighty seven year. Old quarterback who might be done or at least is close to being done and he's hurting the team at this point more than he's helping them so it's it's quite alarming to see and it's hard and watch yeah no of course because we all have that personal tidal rivers and you know it's kind of a hard evolve because we haven't really had to have this before in the the past you know we can analyze him and he's had a bad game or two and He's caused the chargers some games but Now currently he is costing the team team wins now. There's never a consideration of bench him or going different direction but with his performance lately he's been throwing the team at a games. The seven interceptions. The two games like you mentioned they're both back to back division games which are really big. They had a chance to win it each time on the final drive. They're both spoiled by rivers his Andrea Sicilian throughout a stat after the Kansas City game that is Philip. Rivers has a seventeen point seven passer rating when trailing by one possession in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter this season which is worse than the NFL. And if you think about how. Many bad quarterbacks are playing this year as a really alarming stat for I I Philip rivers stature. You know right now. It just seems like he's holding his team back and mostly because of decision making his football. Iq was always what made him dangerous. But I think because of the lack of accuracy in the arm strength like you mentioned. It's kind of pushing him a little bit more to make some very bad in game decisions. I think it's speeding beating up a little bit and I think important note here. Is I think a lot of people are GonNa WanNa come to rivers defense and I completely understand it because we both Jamie. are emotionally tied to Philip rivers. And we don't want him to go. We wanted to play forever if he could but a lot of people are GonNa then. Point blames the chargers offensive offensive line and I don't think there's any argument that they are bad because they are but you know they were bad before they even hit the field because let's go never did anything in the offseason so we all knew that that was coming but rivers is the problem now in fact rivers last year the highest pass rating in the NFL while under pressure. So they weren't good last year so even in spite of about offensive line rivers is able to make smart snap decisions make a positive play while under duress. He's just not doing that now. He's not doing that this year. And whether he's under pressure or not so some I think except the rivers play just is not up to par. We're seeing a decline and it is tough to see like you're mentioning venturing and. I think you mentioned the football. IQ It seems like he's getting baited or tricked into making bad reads bad decisions And what's more the one thing that he was always really good was he could. Even though he couldn't run he could manipulate the pocket he could slide. He could climb. He could do do things to buy himself time and avoid pressure and now what you're seeing is. He's sliding into pressure he sliding into saks. He's climbing into sacks ax And even when there's no pressure he's reacting like it is he's fleeing the pocket and throwing the ball on the run There was a big a big deal. Made out of a a Sam darnold saying he was seeing ghosts on Monday night football a few weeks ago and it really seems like when you watch rivers there are times where he is seeing and feeling in hearing ghosts in the pocket. He's bailing out of the pocket almost immediately before. There's any sign of pressure and you know the line has been bad at times this year. They've had their issues a tackle for sure. I think the middle of the line has been better in recent weeks but they played arguably their best game. I'm did the line against chiefs on Monday night. Football between Trent Scott and TRAE pickens those two gave up. I think it was four pressures in forty some odd pass snaps in that game so those guys played really well. Rivers was only sacked twice in that game mm-hmm Of course one of those sacks it probably should have been three sacks because one of he was hit and forced an interception But those guys played really well and by and large ars. There was a lot of time for him to throw and make decisions in the pocket and that game and he just wasn't making them wasn't making good throws wasn't making good decisions and it seemed like the last last interception. The one that ended the game he almost throat without looking he was expecting a certain coverage. Try to look it off and then just threw the ball without looking to see where Ecuador was in relation to the defender and there was just no where to put the ball so Just just bad decisions. All around. And he's reacting in a lot of cases to pressure. That isn't there and I think that's usually the first sign of a quarterback who might be a little gun shy or little. Shell shocked that he's feeling and reacting to pressure that isn't there and it's forcing him into bad decisions. So while you can certainly say the line has been bad this year. I don't think that was the case in Kansas City. I think most of it was just rivers undoing himself to a large degree three out of four picks were really on him. Yeah and so. Oh you know. We're noticing this troublesome signs with Philip rivers are you if you're anti are you benching rivers. Are you playing tyrod Taylor to finish south year at four and seven. I think Lynn is in a really difficult spot right now. Because he's preaching protecting the football and making decisions visions and being judicious with the football and the one guy that he needs to rely on the do. That isn't doing that so if he's trying to hold guys accountable. It becomes really difficult to hold guys accountable. Well if he's not holding rivers accountable so if I'm Anthony Lynn. I'm really really close to benching him. Maybe giving them one more week to see if he can pull himself out of it but at four hundred seven maybe four eight year looking at putting tyrod in there. I think because you need to show guys. That rivers can be held accountable accountable for his mistakes. Because I think you run the risk of losing the locker room if you're not even trying to hold them accountable and they're basically just looking at you. You know you're all of your talks about accountability and protecting the football as lip service if rivers can turn the ball over as much as he is an not run. The risk of getting getting benched. I don't think I'm doing if I'm Anthony Lynn. At I'm not benching rivers I know looks bleak and you look at some of these Games and rivers is produced reduced and You know where you are at the year. I think you know I would say. Let's just assess this in the off-season I know this is a horrid stretch for the chargers and of course there's I still hope for rivers that he can turn around but listen I'm not saying rivers is the answer in twenty twenty. We'll talk about that a little bit but with five games left. I'm leaving my veteran quarterback in I I know what tyrod Taylor is. I don't think Iran's upgrade over rivers until rivers is no longer playing the reason that I don't think they'll do it and I wouldn't do it if I were anthony. Lynn is that I think this team would cater tyrod strength in these next five games. I don't think they'll adjust the playbook and give tyrod the freedom that he needs to succeed. We've seen how they do in game adjustments from quarter to quarter that barely tinker with playbook let alone cater a whole new path for tyrod Taylor. No way they're doing that he needs A. I'm an option offense kind of like Lamar Jackson. Something that's more cater toward tyrod Taylor strengths. And they're not doing that with rivers recent play. You're definitely putting that in the discussion. But I don't think you get a true evaluation of tyrod and whether he's part of the future plans because this coaching staff cannot fully utilize tyrod in its proper for setting midseason and then you run the risk of cutting that career starts short that will record that rivers holds. And then you're benching your veteran quarterback at the end of the year. I mean I know stats matter but still. There's a lot of things at play here and I look. I don't think they benched. I don't think they're going to I wouldn't and do it and I especially don't trust coaching staff to run tyrod out there and play to his strengths so just to counter a few things. He said. There.

"She felt she was owed as she tweeted at Oklahoma City. Thunder player needs to pay my money. You'll learn their words. The seaport named Samantha WIG shout the sand. We just had a great basketball. Ask You ball conversation. With Samantha. Wig has done some research on this very important topic this investigation. This is inclusive information. You can only get Jalen and Jacoby there is one person is in the fall trump graham the players the Augustinian Oklahoma City. There's one person thunder that trump follows. Now I'm not saying that this person. Ot on trump money. But I'm saying is very very very likely that this is the person well I know. It isn't Nicholson No. It's not Chris Paul. It's not the needle Nari is not Dennis Schroder no is not the they say Gildas Alexander the guy. FDA IT AIn't him for sure you said any let me say this. "Sunday morning at eleven eastern on thoughts astronauts graduated from their Buzz Aldrin presidents. Dwight D is a west point. who did my cousins? It's one of the most amazing places in America. West Point New York. I made the drive a couple of different times and you go through the woods and it's on the Hudson send it's on a point and the buildings are all made out of granite a hotel. They're made out of granite very very windy. The British are coming around the corner they built on a point. It's been there it was. I think it was commissioned back in the eighteen hundreds impressive. It's an incredibly in the fall. The show's GonNa look amazing. Easing Sunday on Fox. It just it is one of the places in America with the cadets it is I mean it just you. You're there and you're like I'm part of American history. It's unbelievable unbelievable. So you know this year in the NBA has been the year of the duo's annual pf to stars all over the place and it's actually after last night's reiter later win it's becoming the NFL the year of the duo's so It's pretty interesting you have in the AFC. The Patriots and bills have separated the Ravens. The steelers the Texans the colts and the chiefs and now the raiders have all kind of separated from the rest of the division in the NFC cowboys. Eagles Packers Vikings Saints Panthers Authors Niners Seahawks the one exception. That is not a duo that I think is gonNA make a real push to make. The playoffs is going to be the rams at five and three. I think they win this weekend. It was part of my blazing five. I think since they acquired jalen Ramsey Dante Fowler's played great Aaron. Donald still a beast. I think it's a defensive lead team. They have the deepest purpose. Receiving core of their offensive line is healthier. And they're going to now start moving around and using their rookie running back and I do believe that. Not only schedules matter. I can get obsessed on these but head coaches and quarterbacks matter who do you face if you look at the rams over the next month they face Mason Rudolph Mitch Trubisky. Young Lamar Jackson and and cuyler Murray summer talented. They're all young and inexperienced and this defense is playing great Seattle conversely on defense that is struggling of late faces in order Jimmy Garoppolo in San Francisco Carson Wentz and Philadelphia Kirk cousins. And then Jared Goff and Sean McVeigh so I I think over the next month. It's going to be very easy in the year the duo in the NBA and NFL. I think the rams or that one team in third place. They're very good off buys outside side of the Super Bowl McVeigh has owned the FCC. Ten Ino- I do think the NFC's better than the AFC and so it's a very beginning. What can I like the rams? It's one of the games I really really like. I like good coaches off buys Manzini talked about it earlier. Rams beat the steelers all right so last night in the NBA. A Lot. A lot of controversy say. I showed love controversy loud management. which by the way as joy and I talked about earlier Leonard sits out then last night he comes plays arrested plays great dominates the fourth? It wasn't a big deal until they gave it the name load management anytime you give someone named stretching yoga now it's a phenomenon at one point. We had the pet rock for about two years. We were into rocks because we call it the pet rock PA- Ladas pliability. We all want to be pliable pilates. Okay now it's a it's a culture so we got a name for it now. Everybody's freaking out and Charles. Barkley does not like this Sitting out stuff at all as minor injuries in his major interest is take twenty four forty eight to flu not. Stop at check by the Jack before that you know. Listen listen just say you don't want to keep playing back to back just to be honest with the fans and with ESPN alot of Roman. Let's be fair. I don't think there's an injury I do. Not all right I would prefer guys. Don't sit out okay. I don't. It's good optics. I think a lot of NBA fans. It's expensive I don't like I was a kid I drove the song didn't drive. I was driven Sonics Games. I want to downtown Freddie Brown Dennis this Johnson and Jack Sigma and Gus Williams play if a shown up and down I mean I I love down to. I mean I stephen. A Smith. Once that was his favorite player grownup downtown Freddie Brown as malign gene so I drove to the game and didn't see him be bummed out. I like my stars plan if I drove to a game and Russell Wilson play. Happy that we're going to the game we all you young people people now like stars more than teams research shows that young sports fans they don't care about the thunder they liked Westbrook care about the warriors they like staff you go to games for players in the NBA. You really do you. Don't go for the for the shield that's the NFL. You don't go in the summer to a baseball game because your grandfather did your the 'cause you WanNa honesty stars and I don. I don't think the optics are good consumer is being rewarded. But let me just say this Charles Barkley in his prime I'll just the number of games he played sixty seven. Seventy five seventy six sixty five sixty eight and seventy one and then it got old. That went down to fifty three. I like chuck but you know what it was called tired. Sore Hammy knee hurt. The minute we called it load management people freaked out. I mean that's part of it Charles. Barkley was a guy he took took a lot of games off but nobody called it anything. It was just called partied hard last night in New York. I Want Philadelphia Game Off. Here's the other thing. Is that once shoe become the NBA star Driven League. Once you become arguably the best player in this league for the microphone the microscope the scope heats up people for years like you know the NBA Stars to poetic all know. Lebron was into Politics Damian. Lillard and won't talk politics. Six Janas didn't WanNa talk politics. Chris Polin Talk Politics but grid. One doc politics Westbrook one talk politics. James Harden politics now. Lebron talk politics because because he was the best player in the microscopes on him. Everybody's like everybody talk politics. Lebron by the way loan management okay so now co is arguably the best player the microscopes on him because he's threatening Lebron just like Lebron threatened. MJ and everybody's like way own Management Russell. Westbrook took a took a game off this week load management. Nobody cared why because we don't consider them the best player. So this is a star driven leak and when you are the best player for a brief time it was doctor Jay and then it was Kareem and then it was a magic and that was imagine bird and Kobe and we knew about their private lives. And now you add twitter and social media and load management and this is just what happens guys have been taking time off forever. But they weren't the best player in the game and once in in this star driven league you become the best player I mean you guys have been going to strip clubs forever. Why do I know James Harden does this play a guy that's a backup on Houston that goes more and James Harden but in a star driven league? We are obsessed about the guy who threatens the guy and Colli now is threatening Lebron James. I do think Kobe right now for this second. Can't I don't know how long it will. Last is the best player on the game. If I need a bucket I take Kover. Lebron you to stop. I take over Lebron but I think we have done this that we look at an the individual and if he leads an industry and this individual has a habit or a theme or a strong belief we think the industry does Lebron talk politics. Ninety eighty nine percent of these players. Don't WanNa talk politics. They don't want the blowback by the way co is doing load management. Ninety percent of these players aren't doing load management. Everybody in this league league's Miss Seven Games. That's kind of in the NBA season starts and Kobe's like at the you know in. Kobe gets to appoint Kobe. Okay can I take the road game off before the All star break. They get an extra day. Can I take the last road game of the year in Phoenix off. Can I take. This is what players do they circle it. They give it to a team president. I mean this is is such a star driven league. I'm told James Harden tells Mike Dantonio Dantonio goes to harden. Can we practice tomorrow here. Yeah when's the team plane lane taken off. They'd clear it with James. That doesn't mean James is a bad guy but that's the league. How's your star feeling and this was all negotiated by Kawhi Leonard? It was all negotiated. Okay the clippers clippers complaining about this. They sat down Malibu. Doc Rivers Jerry West. I'm not sure if bomber was there I think it was the basketball guys with coin DOT COM. If you you get Paul George Keep Lou Williams on the bench and I can take twenty games off never like check check check world role. Good I I mean do I think it's a great optically. I think it's terrible but we're all good. Nobody's going to hurt the NBA Long-term at all. Trust I mean if that sport became available on the open market networks would be lining up this one included to buy it. We would don't be that guy in the room in the long sloppy sloppy looking.

"I don't feel catches or not because i don't know i don't know where we're going to end it. Is it possible you could go into double figures. L yeah just one just one away. We're just one away but yeah it's awesome. I really feel very thankful and blessed you know my oldest is seventeen now and the little ones five months old but it's seven girls and two boys always but it's it's <hes> it's awesome so there's never a dull moment at the house. That's for sure there's always a ball flying in the air or somebody on rollerblades or bicycle or something going on so there's a there's a lot of lot of a lot of a lot of joy in noise and log on on how did you decide you and your wife decide that you wanted to have not just the big family but a very big family thing we just we both want to be open both open whatever whatever god wanted for us and my mom was one of nine seven girls girls and two boys and my granddad her dad was one of nine seven girls and two boys so it's the third is the third generation of seven seven two two. I remember we found found out my my granddad on my mom's sides ninety one years old and i remember we found out you never know what ninety one right and and so i wanted to tell him hey we're. We're we're gonna have nine just like you and we're not called him. He said well you don't need to find out is i can guarantee. It's a girl is going to be seven to and it turned out turned out to be. Are you the type. That doesn't doesn't want to know now. I like to know oh you liked. I feel like i know him better. If i know if it's the burger i feel like i get to know him over that nine months a little better than just go on. We don't know yet we've done at both. Both i like to know what is what is it like around the philip rivers dinner table when you have perfect attendance and you got eleven people it's great we try to every wednesday and thursday night in the season we sit down and we try to sit down together and and it's awesome i mean i it's it's a little old school that i'm at the end of the table and i kinda i kinda kind of <hes> instigate conversations and single amount and let's see what happened in the day and hey it's sara's turn now and okay now you go and just just so it doesn't get too crazy and then it ends up kind of let it go haywire at the end and then clean up time is always fun. You know you got the table. You got the dishes and we got plenty of helper so it gets done pretty eh finishing up with philip rivers phillip i <hes> i took a tour of your new stadium in los angeles this morning and and <hes> first of all it's big. It's like really big..

"Jacoby perset set is a crow. Don't don't underestimate this kid. He has total confidence and he's the guy who puts in the work and they're going to be behind and remember now and look hasn't practiced at all with the starters this entire off season and training camp. Jacoby has taken every stinking and first team so he's ready. He's ready to go. This won't be a stephen. You also made the point. You also made the point in what you wrote. What about that. I read this morning that i had forgotten that. In two thousand seventeen percent was sacked more than any quarterback in football all and in two thousand eighteen you know the colts offensive line allowed the fewest sex in football so this is this is a unit that has been really really built up well by chris ballard and is going to give percent. I think a fighting chance yeah excuse me the chief of the colts is i think that offensive line as good as they were as a pass protection unit last year. The one step they need to take is in there is in the running game and i think if if they can do that if they can run the ball consistently the blueprint here is not hard right. I mean we've seen teams win with something less than in the elite quarterback it happens all the time right so so the key though is you you gotta do the other things you gotta run the ball. At least you always have to have some threat to run the ball right and i think they can do that. Marlin is a is an underrated player running back and then you've got on defense you gotta get to the quarterback and you gotta take the football away and they actually have have the ability to do those things just in houston i think for example of big addition they needed that their past west was very average last year but i think there are a defense that has the ability ability to take the ball away and they're. They're working on that even more this year. That's been a bigger point about the system so they can do those things now. Jacoby percent becomes look. I'm not saying you it has to be a game manager but but certainly that takes some of the heat also can and as you mentioned <hes> you cannot underestimate the impact of all the hits kobe bryant took and two thousand seventeen <hes> it doesn't take start seeing ghosts when you're getting hit that much so the type of quarterback he he was then i think he is going to be immensely different this year and just be much more competent in the pocket stephen holder. I really really appreciate you briefing me on everything. You're seeing in indianapolis. What you feel about this team going forward a great great education in the last fifteen minutes. Thanks so much peter thanks grab my pleasure and now a live podcast. I tape with philip rivers at chargers training camp in costa automates california. We're it's <hes> los angeles chargers training k._f._c. I almost did these sound. We're los angeles. Chargers is training camp on with philip rivers. We have a nice crowd of philip. Rivers fans here in orange county and philip. You had your annual contest with drew brees out on the field. You gotta explain what that contest means. How it started started and what exactly it is well. We are at training camp. The fans have been great. All <hes> all camp here jack hamman sports complex here in costa mesa so it's been a good camp. Ah a the the quarterback challenge the saints it kinda got started this now the third year drew in those guys have done it and you know they've put it on their instagram on their website and so we've always done it but just haven't really really publicizes hadn't hadn't done it to that degree so when he was coming out and said hey we got a quarterback challenge. So we started started a couple of years ago. Now it's kind of taken on a whole the old quarterback challenge that they used to do with the pro bowl. It's kind of it's kind of it is kinda..

"A lot of fun with Philip rivers. Normally don't get to hear too much from him or have him reveal is personality. I still love it. He was asked if it, if he injured his arm when he was in college and he was like, no, that's how I throw. And the fact that. Coach's wanted to make him a tight end in college. It's amazing. I'm remember when he first came out and Peter King said to me, he goes, he has the best chance to be one of the great quarterbacks because he, I believe, coach's son, and he's just had this ability to get the ball out in a great football mind. But then you watched his delivery and I thought Bernie Kosar because it was it was more of a side angle, not even a slot, but aside angle and you're thinking that ball's is going to get knocked down. Now he's got three hundred eighty five touchdown passes. I believe in his career, something crazy like that and doesn't sound like he's going. There's no reason why you would stop playing if you have all those offensive weapons and you're getting good getting better. There'd be no reason. Yeah, pulling manning was taken number one in that draft. I think, oh four, you know, and rivers was taken fourth. Is it possible that rivers is the better passer, like a you watch him play week to week. And the regular season stat wise probably he just doesn't have any postseasons because that success, which again, obvious you. Yeah. Once surefire hall of Famer, but he's average in the regular season? Yeah, I would consider him a better thrower than Eli. Ben. Ben Ben is always going to be feast or famine. It feels like, and he played well against Kansas City. But any looks like he's lost a lot of weight. He does look good. That's a pretty impressive draft where you're gonna have probably three hall of fame quarterbacks. How many NFL drafts have you had? Were there have been three hall of fame quarterbacks. In the first eleven picks you had three quarterbacks, yes. Point going back, ally manning, Philip rivers, Ben Rothlisberger. If they, if conventional wisdom have redraft, who do you think most football guys will pick open. Ben, then Philip than Eli. I'm going to guess. But even the Marino Jim Kelly LA in Elway. So is that the last time we had three quarterbacks hall of fame quarterback selected same draft. I'm guessing it's gotta be, and that's isn't that the most economists quarterback Ken O'Brien, and I covered that draft and was black legend that dog Blackledge Tony Easson. Where was that was at the hotel, you know, back then it was, I think we were in the Mariot marquee, and there was nothing going on. I get there. There was no is no big, come on stage and hug the commissioners players weren't there. It was just dudes who didn't play football who were on a phone and the helmet phones. I think back then and I'm ever going, I've ever John Madden being there one one time, one draft. And I wanted to know if he would recreate the Miller lite commercial where he rips open the paper as if to say this commercials not over and I and I wanted him to say this draft is not like he rips open the a p. Of paper or this this wall of paper. He, he, he, he shot me down quickly. He shot me down quickly, so I give a shot quickly very quickly, Greg and Florida joins us. Hi, Greg. When you have for me today. Hey, how are you guys doing today? That great. Yeah. Thank you. Just wanted to give a shout out to all the roads. Love you guys, gotta money story about the volunteer Davis thing quitting on a job halfway. I graduated from US got a what I thought was my dream job right out of school working for the Miami Marlins and I basically got handed a phone book my first day and they said, all right, start on this season tickets and I was like, oh, no..
