"And Philip Rivers, despite some Gordy overall numbers, and he might have been the most consistent of all three of those quarterbacks because Ben Ben houses up and down years when his ups are up their outstanding when he lies were up. There were outstanding because he won Super Bowls, but he didn't put up the same kind of Gordie regular season numbers. That Ben would put up I don't think Philip Rivers as a hall of Famer, and if we're me, I don't think I would vote for Eli Manning. Either. I would vote for Ben Rattles Burger. I readily admit all three of them are close. If all if Eli gets in, Uh, I won't complain. I'll just say all right. Wouldn't got my vote. If Rivers gets in, I'd be a little bit more surprised. But again, he's close. And if the people that are in charge of and I think they do have a job, the football writers they changed the rules of the hall of Fame a little bit over the years. It now makes it easier for, um coaches and veterans to get in which some people like some people don't like. Um I'm okay with it. Uh, but I think overall, the voters the 48 Man panel, whatever it is Do an outstanding job if they put represent. Okay, fine. If they don't put Roethlisberger in, Yeah, you will hear me complain loud and long on my bully pulpit, which is here on the radio. I think he is a lock Hall of Famer. But it's not Tom Brady James from Georgia's up on CBS Sports radio. Hey, James. Hey, How you doing? How are you? I want. I wanted to know. Um, how you thought Arthur Smith has been doing with the Falcons if they rebuilt him pretty good. And he think that they can develop Josh Rogin, maybe into a Of quarterback. He did Tannehill up in Tennessee, possibly Okay. Um, We don't know anything about Arthur Smith. Yeah, He hasn't even coached the game. Yet. All he's done is coaching up in preseason. Um, he was a very well respected offensive coordinator at Tennessee. Not every good coordinator becomes a good head coach. Um, I I always Roberta to North Turner, who I thought was one of the best offensive coordinators in the National Football League in the last 25 years, had several chances in several places to be add. Coach didn't get anything done anywhere. Same with Bum Phillips. Kid. Why can I never remember Bums get Former defensive coordinator head coach at a cowboys. Damn, I can't remember I can see his face, but I can't remember his name again, arguably at times in his defensive coordinator, career, the best in the league, one head coach. So I don't know if Martha Smith is going to be any good or not. I think it's way too early to tell. But here's one thing I will tell you something that I feel very strongly about. Josh Rosen can't play. K P can't play. Not going to be developed under art, this myth or anyone else, woefully overrated. When he came out of college. There's a reason that he's now on his 14 can't play. The next quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons when Matt Ryan's time is up, and it could be as early as next year. Uh, is playing college football right now, It will not be Jack Rose, and they're going to have to use a high first round draft pick to get their next quarterback. Do you think we could develop fully by Frank's any rethink? He sort of, uh, back up the best. Probably, um, I've not seen him on the NFL level. I've seen Josh Rosen. He can't play. I don't know about Philippe back. Thanks to a good college quarterback. I would say it would be an uphill climb. But, um, if I would have falcons and I, at some point during the season realized, alright, We're not making the playoffs. This is a developmental year. I would give Frank the shot before I would put Rosen Inn. Yeah, well, A lot of people feel like we blew it when we didn't pick fields in the draft, and we got called pits instead, you know, so You know, make office is a great player. But I sort of wonder if we shouldn't have got fields and that the quarterback position ready, you know, you know I'm a you know how big of Justin Fields fan I am. So I would be one of those who said they may make a mistake. Now don't get too strong. I think pits a tight end is going to be a stud. I think it's going to be a star over the next 12 years. 14, however long he's gonna last in the National Football League, so it wasn't like they picked a stiff. We'll see what happens in this season. I picked the Falcons stab the second or third worst record in the NFC and Fourth or fifth worst record in the NFL, So I think they're going to have a high first round pick. If they want to go quarterback will the quarterback that's available there compared to Justin Fields. That's a comparison will make over the next 10 years. But if they don't have their quarterback on their roster, and they think it's time to move on from Matty Ice It'll be a drafted QB Brandon for my Does up on CBS portrayal. Brandon. Hey, I appreciate taking my call. Um, so I've been a Packers fan since I was a little kid. I grew up in Southern California. And ironically Never was a Raider standard trying to spending to start off with some reason, actually, actors, but anyway, um so for some odd reason. Uh, um Aaron Rodgers, um, you know, always huge fan obviously from him, but for some odd reason that I feel like this team is going to take a step back. A little bit. I actually have them missing the playoffs ironically enough, just the fact that you know what Aaron as a good quarterback, as he is, as caused nothing but distraction. Don't get me wrong. The Packers are blamed for some of this, too. But after a while, it's going to come to a point where I think Erin should have stepped up like look. All right. You know what team comes first? You know, I'll do what I gotta do. But you know, Super Bowl. You know, the team ultimately needs to win a Super Bowl. Um, I don't see them getting to the Super Bowl. I have seen them actually missing the playoffs, but I'm actually kind of curious as to Where do you think the Packers going to finish the season? And obviously, I think Erin Phillies to I don't know if you think he's going to stay or go at the end of the season. Alright, I'll it's about your question below answer. Second, one first Ah, I don't know what Aaron Rodgers are going to do at the end of this season, either. I think a big part of that will be determined by what happens this year. Um, so I think it's too early for anybody can make a prediction on anything at any time. But I would say that you'd be well advised to at least let this year play out before you say, Hey, I know it's going to happen with Aaron Rodgers. He's out of there. He staying all is well with the world. I think that there is a legitimate cans for the latter to happen, because you must not have been listening last week here on CBS Sports Radio when I picked the Green Bay Packers to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl is year. I've got Green Bay against Kansas City so I hope for your sake, Brandon. I'm right seeing as you're a Packer fan, even though you don't think they're going to make the playoffs, I got him going to the big dance at the end of the year. Alright. Seattle..
Philip Rivers Is Already Hinting at Making His NFL Comeback
"Philip Rivers thinking about coming out of retirement. Possibly. You know, your own career obviously ended, you know far differently. But just this idea of Philip Rivers still thinking like he might has something left in the tank. What's that process like you think for him? Well, first of all, it's sort of Kind of feels very far. Vienne for him to put that out there, you know, Like here we are. It's like two days after the Colts quarterback has surgery. That this story comes out. I mean, the timing is just Very interesting. I'm not mad at him for it. You know, I think it's crazy like let's let's let's

"Need a little bit more in your garage. He can. no you know actually don't wild. Here's the thing we actually don't. You don't need anything more in your garage. You just have to hope. Someone doesn't come before you leave and steal your hubcaps in your left. Tackle left guard right guard right. Tackle for the super bowl long as that doesn't happen. He'll need those cars wild. That's all you need. I love. I love the take brandon. I think you've got to. I'm gonna convince you about your own take. Here's your own. Take my takeaway. Here is that the titans are going to be unstoppable. When you look at how much run the ball. And i know it's weird looking about running a a wide receiver topic. Say with me. These four teams are all on the bottom. Half of yards per game chaser sixteenth. The cowboys were seventy two bills. Were nine thousand nine hundred and the bucks twenty eight. The titans were second so why we all these teams are very pass. I the chiefs are going to be passed. I the bruce arians gonna be pass. I care of jamison stone into the wrong team or he's got. Tom brady cowboys. Defense is so bad they have to be passed. I and josh allen wants to show off the canon of the arm ryan tannehill is sitting back. There would so many weapons where my biggest take away. Is that the titans. Offense is going to be unstoppable and we should talk about them more. How higher you on the titans offense. Oh i'm extremely high on the titans off. This is the type of offense that i love the play in and i thrived and one. We had a balanced attack. Where you put me back side at the x. And you if it was one and one that was coming to me if they were doubling me or they're rolling coverage than we had favorable matchups in the run game and on the other side. So that's why. I always love this. I can speak to like this when you talk about. You know best. Receiving core tandems. Because i go back to my time in denver. We eddie roy. I had one hundred four catches. He had ninety one. I then i went to miami. I have bryant heartline who had a career year and then we went onto sokoto. Also on. Jeffrey martellus bennett matt forte. The jets you have eric decker so when you have a balanced attack it makes everything easy. But we're not talking about. Who's going to be scarier. Our who's going to have the best season the teams that have the best corpse. Don't always get it done. So when you talk about the titans yes we could easily be looking up at the end of the year saying. Wow this was the most efficient team. This was team that nobody thought was going to get it done. Because it's like oh you only have just two guys know what they're talking about efficiency when you have three four five guys you've got levels. It goes deep depth at the receiver position. The tide imposition. And that's why the number one and also the cowboys is number two receiver. Talk with.

"One trillion percent. Yes one trillion percent. This makes total sense for the colt. It always has and it never really made sense when he retired. You guys are going to hang it up when drew brees throws a bunch of interceptions and we just saw in his final game and he's hugging his family and he's kinda out there like yeah that's it and the numbers plummeted with drew brees so that one of the biggest passing attacks in all football becomes pretty mediocre. That's not what happened to philip rivers. Here's what it is and we didn't some stats yesterday. So i had to freshen it up a little bit. He had more completions than baker more yards than cuyler and a better passer rating matt stafford. Now i know you're saying is old. He's going to be forty all right. Well we're in the golden age of old guys tom. Brady's old aaron rodgers leaker rothlisberger burgers alternate to say philip rivers whole eight to say philip rivers is healthier than all those guys. He hasn't missed a start in fifteen years he had. It was a little banged up. I was to- issue and he's still played. He still gotta and brandon even if even if people are worried about the age or worried about him getting in shape we know carson wentz is going to be back so philip rivers basically do like vegas tour like hey you know what. I'm here for five. To twelve weeks until winces back. Then i'm gonna go check in with my fellas down in high school football and the out make a couple million bucks win win for everybody. Do you like philip. Rivers back to the colts. Listen i do and you call this right. You said it yesterday. And i didn't think it was a real thing because of what you said is where to see him. See him go. I know the colts really enjoyed him. Frank reich really enjoyed him. They had a great report with gandhi. Had they had some success so for him to walk away he did. You know it felt like to me. It was over. You look at the dynamic in his family. His children getting older boys in in school. Now he wanted to go back and coach a little high school. So you know i. It looked like it was done. But here's the deal while if he goes out there and he balls we probably won't see carson wentz. This is a this is a true contender. And when you have a veteran quarterback like a philip rivers what it does is it gives you a sense of security because you know that guy in the biggest moments in the biggest situation on sundays. He's gonna make the right decision back in the day when he was playing for the chargers right like he's he's a gunslinger that's who he is and he was out there trying to do too much. Frank must've sat him down last year. Said buddy don't throw picks if you won't be there. We know that. Frank is ado who is transparent. He keeps a real with his players so he must have gotten to philip rivers because we didn't see the same gunslinger last year that we saw during his stay with the chargers. So i like this because you have a defense a top five defense philosophy. Their science makes sense and they're smart like these dudes get after all three phases all three levels. They get it. Done it on the offense aside. Join t. jonathan taylor. This dude is next level. These guys can win a game just on the ground. You got a guy like this you come in. He loves to play accent. We saw that year after year after year. Out there san diego and la and he also showed that he can make the right decision in a two minute drill operating four minute offense. The red zone offense the most critical parts of the game. On sundays he can master. He's next level. There's an to me quarterbacks. Out there right now nick that you can bring in that can get the job done. Y carson wentz is out. Well yeah. I mean if the if the other alternatives are the nick. Foles realm then. Obviously philip rivers is the better option. You guys talk about why it would make sense the colts. I want to talk about why it would make sense for philip rivers. Because i'm gonna say something controversial and jenin wilds are gonna act like they disagree. They know right. Now what is slightly overrated spending a ton of time. All your time with your kids reading a good amount of time with your kids. I got nine kids. I'm gonna spend all my time with them grazing world. Meanwhile every day before the show. I hear jena freaking out. You better get on that bus. I swear to and i gotta take you today. We are allowed to do these shows from home. Wild rented office space. Oh he's like nope kidding. Bill authored either more like four jobs candle in the morning at night but that daddy's working got nine kids all my time with modern he's like aw anybody wanna hire only got to travel for work so i knew philip rivers wants to do it. I also think that for the colts it they do have a commitment to wins because they traded pick forum and by the way is kind of could work out. because that's now going to be a second round big instead of a first round. Pick because wins isn't going to meet the playing time thresholds for this via first round pick and they are committed to wins for not only this year but next year. So you can't bring in a guy who might full on. Replace him wholesale. But you do as brandon mentioned. And i'd only wrong heavy really good roster. You are in a division where there's only one other team. That's actually contending jacksonville. It'll be good ish this year but they're not a contender in houston will be terrible. So you don't want to have your season ruined by having no one at quarterback and so for all those reasons i think this makes sense. Wild team knows the system as you pointed out. He was successful there last year. And you being brought in he. I think he would understand. Hey man like this is at least our plan is for carson to take over. When he's healthy now. That plans can change. But i only philip rivers would be like no you have to commit to me for the season so for all those reasons if he wants to do it his votes to sam farmer make it seem like he's open to it. I think this is a no brainer. I think you nailed it. So i think it's ninety nine percent of a no brainer and i wanna ask you a question brandy because you brought up. How some guys thrive under competition in other guys. Don't we saw aaron rodgers and granted. there's a host of issues but once jordan was in the building. Got kinda weird. Tom brady and jimmy g. A little bit weird we saw carson wentz and maybe it was nick. Foles thing we say. Don't bring nick foles back. We don't want that sort of dynamic. So do you think it's a good problem to have in the short term that if philip rivers comes back to indianapolis they start winning games and then carson wentz takes off from walking boots running around like oh also ws ready to go again. Why you're you're kind of benched right again. Like oh man. I just was benched. Fairly thought i was coming here to get new start. Do you think even the idea of bringing carson assuming bring philip rivers to indianapolis would would mess with.

Carson Wentz Says Goodbye To Philadelphia Eagles, Welcomes Fresh Start With Indianapolis Colts
"Carson. Wentz officially introduced as a colts. Now that we're day into the new league year and went hoping for world. Class makeover in indy with frank reich. Who made a big bet on wins putting his career on the line bringing the quarterback. They were an excellent match before the colts. Well built around wins. So here's what went said today about his fresh start. You know you gotta just be intentional. One by one build those relationships and like you said respect is earned not giving so. I look forward to earning a lot of guys respect and You know i i. I'm confident that that will happen. Go trike. I'll never forget when i was working out in fargo north dakota before the draft. It was an instant that we just had this connection on how we see the game and how he challenge each other and ultimately make each other better super excited about getting to work with him again. Because i have the utmost respect for the man that he is also. The coach. study is as well guys here with you for the next hour as well as schefty didn't orlowski. Marcus spears matt miller will join us for a little draft talk later but let's get back to what we just heard from. Carson wentz introduced today. Dan alaska simply is this. How does he move. Forward was carson wentz's success this year. We'll start off the field. There are more questions than answers about him right now. So how is it going to turn the bad of last year into the good this year. What did you learn when it comes to relationships. How are you going to be better at relationships. How are you going to be better at leadership. How are you going to be better at handling the adversity off the field. I mean he just talked about earning the respect of his teammates and in the locker room. Think about this. He can go into that locker right now. This is what i would do if i was him. Sit down with those new coach teammates. How did philip rivers do it. Filled came from a different team and he came down year. What did he do. Endeared himself to you guys how did he earned your respect. What's what's stuff that that clicked with you guys because the reality is you don't have to sit here and say that you've got to be somebody or not. You can still be the genuine authentic person that you are but the reality is you should be ever changing. You should be ever-growing. And i liked the fact that he said. I've got to be intentional because the truth is this when september comes. No one cares about your excuses. Excuses or explanations you've got to figure out in the next five months in the midst of unique off season again how to earn. How do prove to your teammates that you're the guy proved to your teammates that you will take over this locker room and become part of it. That's his biggest challenge and once he realizes that off the field is equally if not more important on the field. That's when he can start to rebuild his career. Yeah no doubt. I think self awareness as well like the indianapolis colts need carson wentz to come and fix them as a football team he needs to. They need him to come. Add to what they already have going already building. And there's a amount of pressure on carson winston. He never felt in philly because of the situation. And he walks into. And they are frank reich as well like frank reich has attached is job to carson wentz internally him around and making him the quarterback that that can get team to where they think they can go but india set. They have a good offense around. Obviously they make moves at tackle. They have a good running back. Good receivers a defense that at the top level of the nfl last year. so carson winston is not coming into a bad situation this is a rehab for carson wins. This is not a rehab for the indianapolis colts. He needs to be aware aware of that as well. And look i wish and hope that carson wentz turns this thing around and has a lot of success. I'm just going to sit back and see how he handles the pressure. Because now you're on a playoff team. You're around got dairies. Linda put it out there right here to win. Don't care about what you have to say don't care about your past that these that transpired pencil tired about if you're going to come play for the indianapolis colts come to win. So there's a lot on the line of course a wins but there's also a lot on the line for the indianapolis colts football team as far as where they wanna go and a hell of a lot of framed right for sticking his neck out there to say i'm the guy that can get the carson that we saw in twenty seventeen. And if he is. The indianapolis colts are absolutely a legit super bowl contender.
Philadelphia Eagles trade QB Carson Wentz to Indianapolis Colts for two draft picks
"Story of the day. The Eagles have traded quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts and oh my goodness. It made me very happy. I was so excited. There's a lot to unpack. I want to start though by mentioning a weird thing first. In the 2016 NFL draft the number and overall pick was Jared Goff. The number two overall pick was Carson Wentz. And both have been traded away from the teams. They were drafted by 19 days apart. Just a weird quick doesn't happen very often the guy a number and overall pick a number 2 overall pick gets traded away. Especially not the quarterback position. Let alone almost in just over two weeks apart from each other. That's crazy. Pretty wild now after the trade the Eagles have a 33.8 Million Dead money. Salary cap charge for the 2021 NFL season what that means I will get into that in a minute. First of all, that's actually by the way the most ever to have dead money cap. I guess charge or penalties by an NFL team. It's so much that I actually thought that might keep the Eagles from trading cars and stuff like that might be so much of a penalty. They're not even getting rid of the guy sounds like they did. I thought it's good for everybody Carson Wentz wanted out they I think we're you know, we'll talk about Jalen hurts in a minute, but I thought it was good to get Carson out of there. It is also kind of weird and interesting I talked about Jared Goff previously very briefly the other the the record for the most amount of dead money against the salary cap was Jared Goff. The Rams amount is 22.2 million dollars off. Beat 19 days later by the Carson Wentz trade what is dead money? You may ask it's basically all the guaranteed money the Eagles still owe Carson Wentz after the trade. So even though Carson is no longer on their team. He still creates a thirty three point eight million dollar cap hit for next year. So over thirty-three million dollars off of the salary cap has taken up for Philadelphia. They cannot use that money for other players. It's weird. It's interesting. It's never that's again the most ever pretty interesting. I was surprised that you know, they still trade off a given that but in the trade the Colts got Carson Wentz so the cold they get their quarterback that the replacement Philip Rivers the replacement for Andrew Luck. I'm happy for the Colts man. They've they've Way to make it work. They lost in Turlock. They had to scramble the Mage Jacoby Brissett work for a year. They made Philip Rivers work for a year. Now. They've got what they believe is their franchise guide Carson Wentz good for them. The Eagles got a 2001 third-round pick for the upcoming NFL draft and a conditional 2022 second-round pick and here's what's really cool. The condition. Is that if Carson Wentz plays 75% off Kohls offensive snaps for next year if it stays healthy place the whole year or you know, it's good enough to be the starter all years and get benched. Then that draft pick goes from a second round pick in 2022 to a first-round picks. Oh, wow. I like about that. People are saying the Eagles got a horrible trade. They got fleeced. It's terrible. Oh my goodness. You gotta realize this is probably the best trade they could possibly find the Eagles traded away Carson Wentz a guy who has an injury history has been injured repeatedly over the years. He's coming off of a horrible season where he was so bad the dude got benched for Jalen hurts a rookie quarterback Club. So the fact that Philadelphia made a trade where they have an opportunity to get a first-round pick that's impressive to me. I think people realize that's the best they were going to get so anybody criticizing Philadelphia you did not realize how I think how little value Carson Wentz really had on the market people like nobody really wants him. I think JJ Watts getting a ton of attention Carson Wentz people are very wary. And I think it's really what's really disappointed me. Is that the Bears didn't get him. What did the Bears did the Bears not want him? I don't understand. Maybe they're trying to John Watson feel like the Bears really lost here. They still got home key who Carson Wentz has problems I think is way better than Mitchell trubisky. So debate that all you want. I don't know how you go. Like. Oh the Bears they got a great quarterback still trubisky. I like it. I think another thing people got realize is that I love the trade for Carson Wentz. He's going to a way better team he gets to play for his former offensive coordinator Frank back in 2017 the best year Carson Wentz ever had in the NFL. He was a before he got hurt. He was an MVP candidate playing under Frank Reich. He's reuniting with that guy that's going to be awesome to got a great relationship and EM the Colts have a great offensive line. They've got to get running game. They've got a great defense Carson Wentz is being put into a great situation. If he does not do well then there's no excuse. You can make he's got great great team around him good support good people. He's getting helped.
J.J. Watt is leaving the Houston Texans
"Talk about it real quick here about the current state of the nfl. All right to shawn watson is going to be somebody that's talked about if this is the way the. Nfl becomes with high super caliber superstar quarterbacks wanting out of their russell wilson is somebody you would never think whatever asked to be traded or moved or anything other than go hawks matthew stafford we thought he was potential gonna die on a football field while wearing alliance jersey because he would never ever come out and say hey. This is not for me anymore. Okay i would like to potentially go on and have success somewhere because when legacies are talked about hall of fames or talked about. I just heard what happened. philip rivers. I would like that not to happen to me. But this is not the type of guy i am at all now got. Jj watt not that type guy at all by all accounts. He's going in saying. Get me out of here. That's when it gets interesting because now it's not you know because back in the day they would move somebody is they're labeled a distraction. Let's get out of here. Let's go do whatever now. It's like all of the biggest name players that you would never expect a walter payton man of the year potentially the greatest philanthropic person in the nfl is potentially saying you know what i mean a new landscape. I'm intrigued to see how this continues. How each of these situations gets talked about judge in how many of them actually happened. Because the seahawks without russ stink. The texans were out the shawn watson. Probably gonna stink now without. Jj watt not to jj watt winning. Them games good player. I mean he's a great player. He's gonna play well somewhere else. Wide jason ring. It's like all these teams are are potentially at the mercy of their big name

"So if Brady stays, um, one of your former teammates Philip Rivers on another one of your former teammates, Drew Brees. Maybe a potentially in shrine and came together. What do you think that both, Uh do you think that Philip Rivers is all of Famer? Because I think a lot of people are like, Oh, yeah. Drew Brees. White Philip Rivers You played with him for a lot of years. Is he a Hall of Fame quarterback in your opinion? Yeah. I mean, you're right. There's no doubt that Drew's first ballot, and there shouldn't be any questions about that. There are questions about Phil because I get asked him all the time. And I do see both sides of the argument but in my head And for football people that really understand the game. Philip Rivers is undoubtedly a Hall of Famer. And here's why, because in my opinion to make the whole of fame You have to have had a dent on the game. You have had the had your imprint on it and changed it in some way and Philip did. He evolved the game of football with his ability and pass protection and being able to Basically throw out rules of pass protection, which had been around since the beginning of time. It seemed like in defensive coordinators had standard blitzes that they would run. And it was this little game of cat mouse. And it wasn't super interrogator detailed her challenging, to be honest. And you would. They would bless you and you would throw a hot route or excited just and that would kind of be yet you move along with the day and then Philip comes around and we were part of a really special crew than That basically said. I don't understand why we have these rules. We can tell who's coming. We can figure out who's going to be blitz enough and we can swing up protection. Anyway. We want what it's rewrite the rule book. And by doing that we never had to check down. We didn't have to throw the underneath for the hot, adjust without hot routes inside it just we could continue with the past game as we had called in the huddle. Something that ball down the field of North Turner system, which then forced the defensive coordinators like Mike Zimmer, who originated the double A Gap mug blitz and Rex Ryan and the Amoeba. Magnolia came up with some crazy bliss is That was because the rules have been broken on offense, and now we could pick you up and we could really make you pay and hurt for those woods is that you're calling that we knew were coming. And that that really evolved the game of football to where now you see so many different exotic blitzes and disguises coming and a big part of that was Philip Rivers, ability to be able to recognize blitzes. Pick up blitzes them. And study them. I mean, it was that a massive imprint on the game of football. So when we talk about Hall of Famers, I think the conversation. Yeah, that's is important. And Phillips got all of them that you could ever ask for to make the Hall of Fame. But he also left a dent on the game, especially on the defensive side of the ball with the blitz packages that started coming And I love that, Nick because I don't think that the casual fan knows that about about Philip Philip Rivers. Yeah, and couldn't know it really? I mean, honestly, it would be impossible for somebody who didn't live in the space for so long to even recognize what was happening at the white discriminate at the time, it will would be impossible. And that's why I say it's like People need to know what Philip did to the game because it was mighty impactful. So everyone asked you whether Philip Rivers is the Hall of Famer. They probably all ask you if you've ever heard Philip Rivers curse, So let me I'm not. I'm not above that. I'm not above that, Nick. So the most profane thing that Philip Rivers has ever said to you, and I do have the dump button, So I got that. Got to delay on. But you know the Dag nab it and all that kind of stuff. No doubt, but you don't stop. I'm probably the worst thing he's ever said to me was like a look or something in the middle of a game and I just had him on my podcast. Today was the first interview He did T announced his retirement two weeks ago. It was awesome kind of just catching up and hearing some old stories and stuff, and he reminded me of way beat Indiana Division game in Indianapolis. And we ended up taking a delay of game because I couldn't hear him the silent count. I know we're on one or two and end up being a delay of game and he comes back and it was like 118 At that point, he looked at me and he goes. We don't have a play for 13 82 nights. Just call the play like like, Just make it work right and then He goes, you know, hit Chris Chambers on a team 6 78, and I was like, I don't even know what all that means. But we ended up getting 20 yards on the play. Got the first down and just looked at him like, Yeah, That's what I'm talking about. That's the good stuff right? There is, like, just just run the play. That's called Phil. And that But those moments like where it was super tent he never caught so they answer questions never cut ever but those look sometimes you knew there was a customer behind if you did, because it was right in that look..

"Christian in Argyle, Texas. Court of Inquiry. That is a high school. Yes, Peter. What is the mascot for? What is it? The Liberty Christian? I don't know. Can we get Tau reset? You know, top your, uh I'll hit the Googles. I'm sure they're probably the Crusaders. Something like that. I would probably say, I think it would be I'm sorry. Trying to pull some crusaders out of their head. Ah, this'll is great for him, right? Isn't this over a little retirement now? It's the coaches, kids. That's the deal. Anything here in his kids go to school there. So so perfect Deal for him. I'm gonna say yeah, he is the Warriors. Okay. All right out of his head. I feel like this is him pulling a rabbit out of his head again. Pull another rabbit out of his head. I, Aiso reported he passed on several NFL and major college football opportunities where he could be an assistant coach to take the head coaching job. In high school. I guess Philip Rivers style. This is what Philip Rivers I just retired is going to coach high school football in Alabama. I have no into Philip Rivers 800 different kids. Are they go on busy coaching his kids there and being I guess so. Cool, man. You know what Beato the father hear you say that And I'm like, you know what B B does correct. Don't be so cynical because those those other jobs would be there. They'll be there in three years. I don't know if Jason Witten wants to be a high school coach for the rest of his life or just to have this opportunity that goes by so fast with one of your kids, man. I think that's what he's doing, Vito, I think He's going to coach his kids. I think he's doing what what Philip Rivers talked about doing coaching his kids and use football and witness gonna be doing that. I don't know how older is kids. I don't There's no details on this story about exactly what's going on in trouble. I think I think I think they're all probably Look like one was high school age or two about high school age and one was a middle schooler, you know? Yeah, yeah. Jason Witten and says, Quote Faith family football in this next chapter is important for me to be the best father and husband. I can be while making a positive impact in the community and share the wisdom I've accumulated over the years to positively impact the next generation. So cool. Uh, I don't know why I'm just like I told you guys last week. I got a bad taste in my mouth about Jason Witten off because we were forced to watch him commentator on TV. I get it to television. I get it hair. In fact that you can't put a sentence together anymore. Is it just jealousy because he's Tony Romo's BFF when I should be Tony Romo's BFF, Ding ding ding to change, but I I look at this and I'm just like I feel like I don't know of General Jason Witness qualified. I love He's qualified to be a head coach of a high school football team. So he was mentioned for the head coaching title. E don't understand it. That's what I keep pulling these rabbits out of his head. Where is he getting out of grace? How's he doing? I don't understand. Good for you. Jason went way wishing you the best, ma'am. Let's talk about gambling. All right. The line for the Super Bowl is still Kansas City, minus three and went to 3.5. Some spots. Everyone in a couple of places. I think they're determined to leave it at three because Sharp money is just gonna pounce on Tom Brady and 3.5 points if they make that opportunity available for him, not official yet, But again, I'm gonna be on the Chiefs No matter what, Vito, you have the You're taken. Tom Brady PLO officially right now you don't have to make it official. I'm on that TV 12 train. To and what you gonna do? You know the way which way you leaning on this. You know, I'm leaving. I really think Kansas City is gonna win this game, but that the Choo choo side and Tom Brady intrigues me. It really does because they're playing at home, and their defense is playing better. And Patrick Mahomes is gonna be down a couple of offensive linemen. Jay. I don't treat the dog out of me, but I don't know yet. I just don't know. I know we got the profit coming up. I would like I might actually do some work tomorrow. I don't know how many times is Tom Brady in his now or nine Super Bowls previously been Betting underdog. Oh, this is only the second time he has been the underdog buffet. It was his first Super Bowl appearance versus the Rams. They were a 14 point dog goes. What happens in two New England Patriots They want upset of the arguably the biggest upset in Super Bowl history may be the greatest show on turf Rams and they've been a favorite, and in fact, I think his record is not great both of the games that he won version by three points that one versus the Eagles and then He's been a 3.5 point favorite a lot, and so I don't know that he's covered all of these. That's to me. The other thing just for betting history would be like what what? What are the Number of yes or no of him covering insists in not the nine times we'll get research on them. We're gonna figure that out because I know those air so abstract, and you won't even give those kind of things credit. But I like to look at those numbers and be like it might be significant history. You know, I mean, but it would sure why does what Tom Brady in the 2004 Patriots? How does that even affect this game? Yeah, that's kind of silly to me. But you know what? That's AH, More data is better than less data. So yeah, let's get to work on that. We've already handed out so many winners on this program, including. You can't Cash the ticket yet, But there was over under 1.5 players will miss the game because of coronavirus. The chief put two players on the cove in 19 list today. They're not officially ruled out. But I'm telling you that if you can still they probably took that off. The board doesn't go over on the 1.5 players. Yes, all right. Here. Let me give you just Ah, Sampling of Vito Puppy Bowl 27 with no 17 winner. He's got Roman numerals. Get me team Fluffer team rough when you think Oh man Team fluff team rough. Who cares? Give me team rough. I'll go the other way. I go team, you.

"One of the things about Philip Rivers was those postgame press conferences and covering them out of charges Park He gave the city of San Diego something to talk about very positive. We talk about the reference of the Beverly Hillbillies just demeanor on and off the field, whether you liked it, or you didn't like him, But Philip Rivers, I think is One of those guys and we continue to talk about right now is we're going to continue over the next five years to talk about Philip Rivers, whether he's gonna be a Hall of Famer, and they're not too many players who retire who had that conversation during his career more so over the last decade and over the next five years, there's not too many people like that that this is going to be an ongoing discussion and to me. That's the difference we got with Philip Rivers. Well, two things with that. He always took ownership when he fouled up and he absolutely took ownership. So there's that and it does. He belong in the hall of Fame. The answer is yes. And I don't want to hear anything else about it. I am dead and I'm dead. Serious stones. Yes. All right. Steve Hartman. Ernie Martinez. "Once so eight years of his prime Philip Rivers made the playoffs once. The best teams he was ever on. Here's the best teams 0609 and 18. You know six. It was the best team 14 into They had home field advantage. One and done they lost to the Patriots. Philip Rivers threw for 230 yards, no touchdowns and a pick. You know 9 13 and three One and done they lost to the nine and seven jets at home. 17 14 bad Dan Offense for Philip Rivers. And in 2018. They were 12 and four He beat Lamar Jackson in the wild card round. When the Ravens turned the football over three times, Lamar was a rookie. He had 100 and 60 yards passing. And then the divisional round went to New England and laid a stink bomb. They lost 41 28. They trailed 38 to 7 until late in the third. The offense was a diabolical that day. Those are the three best teams Philip Rivers has ever on. And he laid an egg in all of the post seasons. The idea that Philip Rivers didn't have anybody around him. He played with LaDainian Tomlinson Ah Hall of Fame running back for four seasons. He had a whole of fame tight end, one of the most prolific past catching tight intern NFL history, his entire career and Antonio Gates. Keenan Allen is a four time pro bowler, and even after LaDainian Tomlinson they had Melvin Gordon in recent years. Who's a two time pro bowler? Don't sell me that Philip Rivers never had talent around him. He had to Hall of Famers in his prime alongside him. And then finally This idea that he's the modern Dan Marino. I am going to run my face into a brick wall. The next time I hear Philip Rivers is a modern day, Dan Marino because you know what he's not Dan Marino. Is a generational once in a lifetime quarterback. Okay? Just because they both didn't win. A Super Bowl doesn't mean Philip Rivers is the modern Dan Marino. Dan Marino was NFL MVPs 23 Dan Marino threw for 5000 yards and 48 touchdown to 1984 when it was obscene and out of this world to even conceive that a quarterback could do that. Dan Marino was a member of the NFL's All 100 team. Okay, that is the greatest team ever assembled. Philip Rivers might not be the best player from his draft class at quarterback. Here's the thing. Philip Rivers had a really good career. He's not legendary, and the Hall of Fame needs to be legendary. When you look at Philip Rivers career from 2000 and four until 2000 and 20 Hugh L. The best quarterbacks of his career. Brett Farve, Kurt Warner, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers. That is inarguable. All those guys were better than Philip Rivers inarguable. During his life during his career. We can pick and choose the classical four. I think Big Ben is better than Philip Rivers. Most people would agree. I might put Eli behind Philip Rivers. But let's just say that River slots number to add those three guys No. Four. That means he's no better than the eighth best quarterback in the error that he played. I don't care about those stats because everyone stacking stacks these days. I care about where you were in comparison to the people around you. He's not a legend. Really good quarterback really long time. Good guy. Good teammate. He's not alleged. And the idea that this is a slam dunk. Shut. Shut the door! The door case. He's crazy. It is crazy, and it could only be that people like Philip Rivers. Instead of actually doing the work toe look at how limited he actually was in his career accomplishments when it mattered. And against his peers. He's not a legend and Canton needs to be legends. Don't get a morass all day yesterday. I'm looking at social media and all these football writers and observers were talking about how he's absolutely a hall of Famer and look, fans can say what they want. But writers and broadcasters and analysts should be able to dig into the facts of the case. What is this? The comparison to Dan Marino is offensive because Dan Marino's one of the five best quarterbacks ever to live Again. Philip Rivers is not the best quarterback was draft class. What's going on here? I think the problem comes in with the NFL on the Pro Football Hall of Fame specifically that there aren't the true bench markers, right? Like when Termine in baseball Hall of Fame we always knew the number 8 500 home runs the 3000 heads 300 wins. They're always kind of these numbers. And you know if you got to them, you would be a Hall of Famer. The problem is, there's too much moving parts here. You bring up a great argument the comparison to his peers. Some don't like that argument, so some will go with the Super Bowl argument. He never won a Super Bowl. But then people point the river's stats, But the stats are sliding depending on generation to generation. Of course, he's gonna better stats that Bart Freaking star because it wasn't a passing league at that time. So I just think the idea that there's too much going on on how we determine a Hall of Famer and no linear line of thinking is ultimately what's going to get a guy like Philip Rivers in where to me. If you're not comparing him to his peers, then you better have found a way to win a couple Super Bowls like Eli, and he didn't do that. So all he really has is the stats. Which is you brought up. I mean, that Ryan's gonna pass him different. You know, the next generation of guys will pass him because the passing league in the rules change that way, So I think it's ridiculous. Absolutely nothing. He checks enough of the moving scale boxes to put him in. But I got news for you. I think ultimately just based on this, He's gonna be India and then if he's in this is only gonna keep opening and weakening. The argument is generations past for who gets in And I also think that this is going to inevitably lead to guys like Tony Rome. Oh, getting in and we go down the line like that, And I think it's going to be the whole of very good, not the whole of fame pretty soon. Philip Rivers. Numbers are like Jim told me 600 home runs. Okay. You can't make the argument that because Jim told me a 600 home runs. He's better than Frank Robinson. But his numbers were better. And so when I see people well, he retires the fifth all time passer. It's the generation here. I mean, nobody would ever say he's better than John Elway or he's better than Dan Marino. But he's finished with better stats on those guys. It's insane to do this. It's insane, and I don't understand how we can put in three guy, three quarter quarterback from the same draft class because I got news for you. Big Ben's going in. And the only debates are whether rivers and Eli get in and I got a feeling allies getting in because of the rings. When you put rivers in three quarterbacks with same draft class are going to get in. That's hard for me to stomach..

"They might have got world and those championship games, but they got their Philip Rivers never got there. What is Phil's where we're most known for throwing a lot of interceptions? I did feel rivers that was a good quarterback. But I'm sorry. He's not a hard thing where he never got to the ball. If you get to the ball and lose at least you got there. I'm sorry. Philip Rivers about a whole favor to me. J Appreciate it. You'd be well. Here's what I'm learning. It's all about Super Bowl or bust. That's what it is. I think Philip Rivers has the stats to be Hall of Famer. He clued does not have the championship performance he lost. They got to the A C championship game once was on a tornado. Cielo lost that game. So if that's gonna be that's the see. Here's the thing where I need If you're just gonna argue the fact that Philip Rivers is in a Hall of Famer because he didn't win a Super Bowl. I need one more argument like I keep on saying I given you three reasons why he should be in five passing yards all time. Five passing touchdowns all time. Faith. In terms of winds of all time from a quarterback. Those of three reasons why he should be in on why they're good enough. You give me one other reason if you're in the know category, other than the fact that he just want Hey, never got to a Super Bowl never won a Super Bowl. Let's go to Andre and Mississippi. Next up, CBS Sports Radio Andre What's happening, My man? He's going great, man. I'm listening to the show. I got to agree with your producer, man. Hello, Rivers. Net Ryan. These guys are not home, a family and these. This is the reason why they did not make 18 Belen. They did not go to the playoffs and you gotta think about this is no time out. You're finished. Let me just start with you, like Eli didn't make his team better when he was getting crushed when he was getting crushed against the 40 Niners NFC championship game and won the game. Eli Manning didn't make his team better when he threw that pass to marry. Oh, Manning hit me to make this team better. No, you gotta look. You gotta look at the whole career. Eli Manning his whole career. He sucked his whole career here. Hall of Famer Matt Ryan. You may you may say he's not a Hall of Famer, but that does not mean he's sucked this entire career. The time Super Bowl M V P Okay, Let me tell you this. Then when you look at the guys, they barely made the playoffs when you always lose, and that means you abandon the running game, so that means you're throwing the ball 100% of the time. That's why you cannot look at the numbers. Eli Manning, Matt Ryan. Well, the river's dge. When you look at it, they are not. Hall of Famers Abandon the running game. You passed out all these times. I agree with the producer Now. I appreciate it. Andre. I take Matt Ryan at the conversation. I don't think that Ryan's Hall of Famer, I think Eli is but to say that Philip Rivers barely made the playoffs. He was there. 2000 and six Was there. 2007 was there, 2000 and eight was there 2000 and nine was there 2000 and 13. Was there 2018 at six times in abundance of times, But he has made the playoffs six out of 15 years out of a starter. It's not horrible. Some organizations that would love that might say that's a defining moment. But I think we're just remember in the recent years, maybe of Philip Rivers, you know the last 23 years or ever since they lost that playoff game to the Pats and what we saw, not this past season of the year before that, where was constant and to the game, and then he would throw interceptions? Then Wisconsin. Next. Up we go. Benny. What? Shaken. Hey, what's going on? I just wanted to comment. I guess. First of all as a bag of fan years ago called in about Aaron Rodgers. Absolutely insane. You can't compare Rogers to Philip Rivers. Yeah. No comparison. But Philip Rivers. I've never actually liked the quarterback. I don't like the person I remember back in the day him and Jake Color John back and forth when J. Was in Denver, still yelling on the sidelines. Just never cared for him. But he's totally a Hall of Fame quarterback. His numbers speak for themselves, but I think the biggest thing for me on him is when I look back at his career. Was he a top five quarterback for 3 to 5 years in his career, And I think the answer is totally yes. And then the other thing with that Super Bowl party. How many teams was beyond They were really great. Maybe two. Really early on his career as well. 06 or seven? Yeah, outside of that. Those other teams they have maybe made the playoffs a few times one that division, but it wasn't like Jews on exceptional rosters. And that's a big exception to and I do. Grieve you know, 16 years almost great 0 17. He was almost great. You know, They had a lot of talent on some of those rosters and some of those years, but people think That he had LaDainian Tomlinson for his entire career. He played with the Danny Thomas in four years as a starting quarterback. You know what? When lt was just running back now he did play with one of the greatest tight ends of all time. And Antonio Gates. But that team, you look at it their best teams in my opinion, 0607. Six. They're right that game. Brady throws to pick boom fumble off the interception. And they lost the game 07. They were just banged up rivers playing the game Tornado cl Lt hurt Gator and then the 28 et may. There's just no explanation for that Just got destroyed by the Patriots. Chris, Florida got about 45 seconds. Go actress. All right. Thanks for taking my call. Yep. Going, all right? Dad. Your point You had three points. I got one more point. Its longevity. You look over the past 50 years. I'm 47 years old. He's one of the best that I've seen. Philip Rivers have a single ball, but you're putting Dan Marino, and he lost and Matt Ryan, he made it a loss. So where does he fit in? If he finished sat's way less than Philip Rivers, and that he's definitely a Hall of Famer. If you look at the past 50 years when I was born, there was Terry Bradshaw. Yeah, it looked back. Terry Bradshaw, Marino Elway, There's only four or five Handful of quarterback in the last 50 years, and he's one of them..

"17 seasons Indianapolis Colts eight time Pro Bowl quarterback Philip Rivers has announced his retirement. The 39 years spent his 1st 16 years. The same Diego Chargers before moving on last year to Indy 2000 and four first round draft pick ends his career 15 League history in both passing yards and touchdowns.

Rivers played for Los Angeles, Los Angeles and San Diego charges for 16 seasons before Ending his career in Indianapolis. Rivers ranks fifth in NFL history was 63,440 yards passing. The eight time Pro bowler also ranks fifth in touchdown passes. With 421.
Who will be Indianapolis Colts' quarterback in 2021
"But we begin today with music that philip rivers is retiring after seventeen seasons in the nfl. Sixteen with the chargers and san diego and los angeles and this one season in indianapolis when he got to the playoffs rivers never got to the super bowl but he stands fifth all time in passing yards and touchdown passes and he started the final. Two hundred forty games of his career without interruption will now become a high school football coach in alabama. Like his dad. We'll how will you remember his career. Well tony we automatically in any sport. Now we began to group people right and we associate certain people with certain folks football. It's done by position you know in a way that is probably not in the other sports. But i think of warren moon and dan fouts guys who were prolific prolific players who had long runs and played almost every game and they had a piled up passing stats. Galore like rivers did but they didn't reach the super bowl and then about through no fault of their own. Their teams weren't good enough. They got close. Each of those three gentlemen got close. But didn't have the breakthrough to the super bowl and rivers the same way river sets himself apart because he ran his mouth a lot. Which i have done without and i tend to like trash talkers but i i am. I didn't take to that. But he was a prolific quarterback. Tony he will receive serious consideration for the hall of fame. You know. I mean fouts and moon that to me shapes the category. I don't know if you've got other names. You'd like to put in there as well. Get to the hall of fame in a second but in looking at philip rivers his career. I thought he was a very very good player. I will remember. Most is the way the way he delivered the ball where he wound up and threw it as far as he could. And most of the time you thought it wasn't even going to get there. But it got there especially with antonio gates and it ended up in the end zone a lot. You talked about grouping people. Well i'm gonna group them as well. I'm going to group them with his draft class and draft class ally manning ben rothlisberger. They both dot to multiple super bowls. They both won super bowls. I feel badly for philip rivers in this regard to me. It's like charles barkley. It's everything but the ring because the statistics are certainly there. And i thought it was a very good quarterback. I'll take the hall of fame issue. I'll add another name dan marino. Who never won a super bowl if the comparables to marino and to moon and to fouts are rare. Then he's going to get in. I don't think they hold it against you. If you haven't won a super bowl there are people who've won. Two super bowls aren't in the hall of fame. You not room for a long ten years. Yeah do you think he would get in.

"He could have said more of in New England and grown and lead and somewhat cold and I know that when I'm in a in a setting where the people around me, my peers are more interested. Like if you have a a great example might be in a classroom where you have a bunch of kids in the class are really into the material and are they're kind and they're good leaders and they motivate you they give you a group project they bring you along cuz you're like, oh, yeah. Oh or cuz I like I like Dave I like I like I want to work with these people and I want to be involved. There's a different kind of leadership when you're working peer-to-peer then when it's a teacher who strong-arming you saying? Hey, hey, Engine of the material really talking down to you trying to get you to focus up. And so I think Tom is an amazing leader for now. If you're in a squeak that was my shoe on the on the metal. I I really walked away very impressed with not just what Tom Brady's doing but the leadership and it's pretty clear that we saw all these quotes and we saw much am not going to read em all come out after the Buccaneers got to the NFC championship and that's pretty cool. I mean, it really does show that that win I think was a lot more about the Office Team and them caring for Tom Brady going. Yeah. See, I think it's very validating for the Buccaneers saying looked we brought in the right guy. It got us here playoffs weren't enough NXT Championship game. It's a big deal with fighting for a super bowl or two games away. Now the one game away from getting to the Super Bowl two games do wins away from winning a Superbowl and so the Buccaneers and my opinion felt kind of validated going. Hey, look at work. We're we're exactly the biggest. We thought I needed to be without we were going to be and thought we needed to be and so I'm excited for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now before we go to break Philip Rivers has retired after Seventeen years in the NFL by the way, he also wore number 17. It's kind of funny like number Seventeen played for Seventeen years. I like that little bit of fun stuff. I always really really like Philip Rivers. I think Philip is a guy who man he there's no doubt Philip Rivers love football. And oh my gosh, if you love football, you're way more compelling to me. It's more fun to root for you. Philip Rivers is a guy who really really cared about football wanted to win was very emotional sadly. I think you should always be remembered for the fact that he did not win a Superbowl. Remember he went Fourteen and two and two thousand six with the Chargers Allegheny and Tomlinson who won NFL MVP then you know in that in that season, they're the best team in the NFL who they're amazing. They lost in the divisional round to the Patriots like them immediately out of the playoffs and the Colts in 2020 were a team that wage. Twenty-nine. I thought they really underachieved. They're really great football team that did not reach the potential they should have and I it's just disappointing. It's like man. I wish that Philip Rivers had you know, I was always kind of hoping and I hate saying this but like, oh, maybe if we get Philip Rivers out of San Diego and now to LA and out of the Chargers organization, maybe.

"You can't do that professional sports. Where you get treated the way I've treated Carrie Irving the way you know. Maybe he should be treated. We'll get to that later in the show over if we have time, right? Doesn't matter was going on your life. You gonna show you gotta perform? Nobody cares. And so I respect the toughness of Philip Rivers. I really, really do. I just I can't get there and some of it is and this is just me. Honest on it's on a sliding scale of the level to which I think championships. Required and or significant in assessing the Hall of Fame career most significant in the MBA. Most impact most impact an individual can have on on a championship, and then it's Very significant. For a quarterback in the National Football League. Not as the impact that is high, but it exists. And then maybe after that, it would be a high impact. Non quarterback player, right, eh? If you're an all time great running back, if your all time great defensive player to me there's a significance there, and it's sort of on the line, and then not that significant, Always baseball. Does anyone really gonna argue that Mike Trout doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame when he goes into the Hall of Fame and hasn't even stepped a World Series? I'm not so for me. It's situational I the other thing I'll say to is that it's a great point You made appreciate you You're right about the stats on Philip Rivers. But this is an era. Where where I don't want to be the quarterback. Stats are inflated, but they're inflated. They are they are higher because of the way the game is played The protection for quarterbacks, the understanding that there the lead from a marketing perspective, the understanding from the people who actually go out there and put together game plans. This is how you win football games. You gotta throw the football so you gotta be able to do it. Don't in that era in the air of the quarterback, you have those kind of stats and you've on. Lee won five playoff games. Philip Rivers is 15 postseason games. Because many is Patrick Holmes. And thereby Mahomes moment as amazing weapons offensively. It is very short time. It's not like he's had a defense that even remotely approaching some of the things we've seen from rivers of the cold. Had a much better defense is here. In the chief's most teams did For me. He's not in 855 to 1 to four, CBS, Adam and Boys here with my brother, you're on CBS Sports radio. How's it going? Good. I'm good, buddy. Are you hope? Good. Doing good. So I have some thoughts. Um, you know, I'm gonna ask you West fan, a big time Broncos fan, but I agree. Philip Rivers does not belong. In the Hall of Fame, and I know some people were making comparisons to Dan Marino. But Here is kind of where I draw the line in order to not win a Super Bowl and make the Hall of fame. You need to do something that has not been done in his unprecedented and Dan Marino fits that bill In his second year in the NFL in 1984, he passed for over 5000 yards. He had Six seasons of over 4000 yards passing and the next person was Drew Brees in 2008 to pass for over 5000 yards. So he was 24 years. Ahead of his time and put this in perspective. John Elway on Lee had one season with over 4000 yards and his whole career. First ballot Hall of Famer. No question. Same goes for Joe Montana. Some people put him number one all time on their Q B list on Lee won season about 4000 yards. Philip Rivers simply doesn't fit the bill. In my opinion, so never won anything. He was never M v P, um, you know, he was probably a top 10 quarterback for 10 plus seasons, and that simply does not make the cut in my opinion. Do great call great at the start of the show the guys clip of onto crazy stuff, I say and put it into the open and there's some clip around like, I don't know it's my voice screaming those arrogant guys and think their hall of Famers or not, I'm gonna tell him Like some kind of microphone, tough guy and I don't know that Philip Rivers arrogant, but I do think he's one of those guys who fits the bill of not great career great career, not a Hall of Famer. Not all favor and think about the difference in his career versus breeze and what it meant for those two organizations. Remember Breeze did not have a great year three in the National Football League in 2003. So the Chargers decided to draft rivers Breeze was great in 2004 memory serves they left rivers on the bench. And then things or grass in 2005. Breeze got hurt. They went to rivers. We did it. We have our guy. This is so amazing. Breeze has to go somewhere else. He goes to the Saints and it's breeze who wins. And its rivers, who doesn't by the way, Bree's didn't just win the Super Bowl. He won. Ah, lot of playoff games had two brutal turns of fate wanted Cole and won a miracle for for the Vikings, and those things happen. But breeze was on the cusp of things. Rivers wasn't All right, 855 to 1 to four, CBS, Joan Boise, Tyler and Topeka Bob in South Carolina. The rest of you calling it a date 55 to 1 to four. CBS. If you can stick with us, I will get you on the air You call in Going on the radio because we love you. Listen, and we appreciate you, but I do got to get with Mr on Follow here. Real quick. Andrew Bogus made me laugh. I tweeted something today. It's a great day. It's a great day. I think it's a great day and I got a little on follow little joke about yesterday's conversation. "And stream now got our play of the day coming up. And, uh, your phone calls as well as we always do. Every Monday, best and worst to the weekend. We make way for the popular co host of pro football talk live on Peacock. Chris Simms, the former NFL quarterback who joins us on the program, Chris, Thanks for joining us. Let me start with the quarterback. We are most likely to not see next season. Philip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees. Okay. The one were most likely not to see. I mean, I think it's really up in the air for all three of them. I'll say I don't see Big Ben. I think Big Ben's going to try to give it one more year. All right, So I'm going to say that and I think for what he's done for the Pittsburgh Gordon organization. If he says he wants to come back one more year, they'll probably let him Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, one You know, I think Philip Rivers is probably the guy would say is the most likely we've we won't see again, Drew Brees. I think it's a little bit like Ben Russell's burger if he says he wants to come back. They're gonna bring him back. But I do get a field or a sense just by some of the comments Sean Payton made during the year that they'd like to move on a little bit, But I think rivers would probably be the leader in the clubhouse on that one. Who deserves the heat for the Steelers lost last night. Well, um You know, overall, just the whole offensive unit. The approach everything they did you know, towards the end of the year, you know, I think I came out a few weeks ago. It's one thing to be predictable. It's one thing to be predictable within your predictability. Okay, we're gonna We're gonna throw the ball. And now you know, we're gonna throw the ball with our dads, so they're predictably predictable. Right. That's the better way to say it. See me and be in English are no so that good, but that's the way they say. That's why they pay you the me talk pretty. Yeah, me talk pretty right. Me play football Meat blonde. I mean, not that smart, So, but that's like, I think that's it, though. When you talk about it, it's we know they're going to throw the ball. Okay? And then the compounded We know they're going to throw the ball five yards down the field. You know, over the middle of the middle of the ball middle of the field that area and I think that's really the issue. I mean, come on, snap over the head. That interception over the running back, said in a formation in the play set that they usually don't do play action. One man route, you know, then they get into the next drive, and it's the third one and they can't even run the ball for a yard if they really want you because that's not what they are, so it's really overall just the offense in general. And, of course, big Ben's a big part of that, By the way, we're focusing on the teams that lost over the weekend right now, and then we'll talk about, you know, moving forward, So just so you know, Yeah. The Rams and the Seahawks. You know, I'm not surprised at what happened. I'm surprised at how it happened. It really felt like the Rams. That was a varsity in Seattle was a junior varsity. How did that happen at home? To Seattle. Yeah, well, the Rams defense is special. That's the first thing and the one thing I say when I really break down Rams Seahawks matchups to you Got to remember the Rams were built to beat the Seahawks. You know, when Sean McVeigh took over Seahawks for King of the world, you know, so you're gonna build your team the way how we gonna win our division and that was, you know priority number one. So really on the field player for player, they match up well with them and then The defense for the Rams. You know just what they do to the Seahawks. They got a front for that can contain Russell Wilson. They gotta DK Metcalf for Racer and Jalen Ramsey. And I think the big thing is just to focus on the Seahawks like you're saying. They need another idea Guy on the offensive side of the ball. I like Brian Schottenheimer, but it's like maybe, like I would say with great Roman in Baltimore, I might be one of those things where you go. We need to bring a passing game coordinator in here. Just infuse a few more ideas and things into our office because, as you see it's very stale, and teams really caught on to it the last four or five weeks of the year. How should Washington fans feel today? Um, that their organizations going in the right direction. There's a lot to be excited about. I don't think, Taylor Hi. Nikki is going to be the future of the franchise. But either way that was amazing with what the hell we saw the other night. I mean, right? I don't know. I just kept going. All right. Here comes the blowout. What he did. Whoa! Unbelievable. All right, here comes a blowout. And then he'd pull out another unbelievable football play, but between that defense I know some of the guys they got all over there, You know, even in the secondary, they got a good offensive line. They got a star receiver and Terry McLaurin. Antonio Gibson, who was playing hurt here at the end of the years are really damn good running Baghdad. They're a team I would say like They get this quarterback situation figured out. Watch out for Washington and 2021. What happened to the Titans? The Titans ran into a healthy Baltimore Ravens defense. The first time they played there was no Brandon Williams or class Campbell. They dominated the line of scrimmage. The Ravens defensive line Brandon Williams, class Campbell, Matt Judah, and they kicked butt and I think the rookie linebackers they have impact your queen and the leak. Harrison too. You know the fact that they got to see Tennessee earlier, I think helped them how to defend the run game and what to do properly. There was really a big thing. And then those two corners in the back end the fact that you can rely on them and go. Wait, We gotta stop Derrick Henry. And then we gotta put you guys on the island versus a J. Braddock. Corey Davis know that that Z special defensive unit and of course you know that offense for the Baltimore Ravens and their physicality and Lamar Dan? They just throw it just enough like we saw yesterday with Hollywood Brown outside the numbers and just attack that part of the field where defense's have to defend it. It's going to help their offense out big time. It's gonna open up the running lanes and everything like that. I thought that was one of the underrated aspects of the game yesterday. Guess I should mention the bears to be professional. I guess the one question I have is, you know what do you do with Mitchell? True biscuit? I feel like.
Let's get real about the fake crowd noise at NFL games
"Revisit the Rams and Seattle Seahawks game. I hated watching the Seahawks game because it was there are so many moments where the crowd fake crowd noise was really really loud above the broadcasters like Tom and all these trying to talk on the sidelines and you couldn't hear him cuz a stupid fake crowd noise, which is even weirder cuz you know that the people on the sidelines Jared Goff Russell Wilson, he came backed up. They don't hear fake crowd noise only people watching the game on T. Hear the fake crowd noise. I hate it so much. I'd rather honestly hear the noise of people on the sidelines. Or people at the line of scrimmage yelling. I was going crazy at one point on the sidelines. We couldn't hear the guy at all cuz of the fake crowd noise and I A friend of mine from high school plays for the LA Rams and I'm going to wait till he retires to ask him this question, but I want to have them on the Shelf someday to be like hey, what do you like to play a playoff game with an empty Stadium? I know the NFL doesn't really seem to answer that question just yet. There's a reason why you haven't heard anybody complaining about it, but I'm so desperate to know like what's it like to play in NFL game? I'll be damned meaningful playoff game a meaningful NFL game with nobody in the crowd and you can hear everything. It sounds like an empty gymnasium or an empty gym. Like I I want to hear what that sounds like and what what it's like to play in that circumstance and I just hated the fake crowd noise in the Seattle Seahawks Rams game

Way continue on the Saturday night at vision nearly halfway through six wild card playoff games. The Indianapolis Colts were the last in Unfortunately, they were the first out losing at Buffalo today. 27 24 We continue our conversation with W I, B. C and 1075 the fans. Joe stays Niac, former Colts offensive lineman So when Philip Rivers came up short on that hill married to the in the game, I said, Well, that's unfortunately for him, probably the last NFL pass he throws However, then you stop and you think about it for a moment, and that's I'm sure the gut reaction and it's not that I'm blaming rivers on this game. He played fine. It's just you're hoping you could do a little bit better than somebody that looks like they Haven't arm which he doesn't really anymore. But you have to ask yourself. Can you do better? And you may not be able to what are the chances that Rivers is the best option for next season for the Colts? You know what that's the cost of question. And it is funny, Kevin the spring of text messages I was on today because I don't do the social media stuff. But the text messages had that was one of the questions from from my friends in Cleveland. And you know they were really impressed. Now, the only thing wrong with Philip Rivers performance day he only hit 59% of his passes, and that's not really good enough. Didn't make the mistake, then throw the interception. But it was really odd that 59% is not. He's close. He's 70% when he when he completes passes, So he was a good 11% underneath Underwood he normally gets and and part of that was Jonathan Taylor and 90. Mine's going to the running back. He was only three of seven. Going to the running back now. Taylor dropped two. And this kid's gonna be fantastic, but a great running game and and I like what we've got with him in the future. That's gonna be really good. But it was a big, big game. Now. That's the question. What are you going to do? And Toby, You got two options and we have Bill Polian on my show yesterday yesterday morning and Bill said, you know what? It just depends on how things kind of fall. If you decide, Chris Power decides that they're going to draft a quarterback, then you probably bring Philip Rivers back knowing one year and at that point, probably half a year. You just want to get a guy in there that can learn from Philip. That doesn't have the pressure to play right away. But we'll play this in his. You know, in his rookie year, and this kid, you know Philip Rivers, you're gonna end up on the sidelines being a coach anyway. So what a perfect transition, so that would be option One option to would be If you want to make sure that you have the heir apparent, or you have the next quarterback for the next 3 to 5 years on your roster could be either way. You have to have that. So if you're gonna have the next quarterback on your roster next 3 to 5 years if you're not drafting him, then you got to go out and you gotta get Maybe a Carson went maybe a Sam Donaldson. If there's an opportunity to get Detroit, Matt Stafford, you know peas available those air all viable options. They're young enough. Even staff for being the oldest guy. You don't have a 32. I believe he is has got a good five years left in him. All the Islam has his back holds out. That's the biggest thing to me. I'm scared to death of any NFL player with a back injury, although JJ Watt is certainly so that he could speak about play that and Stafford has to. He's played very, very well. Outside of getting one of those three guys. Which of the big Three guys that are certainly been named and mentioned out there. I don't know who still would be available. You gotta look to the future and you got to have that guy in the blaster. So you know, your quarterback situation is gonna be different. You know, Jacoby, Percent is not gonna be on the last day. You can't pay $15 million for a guy that runs quarterback speaks and $25 million. Well, you know, you put those two salaries together. Somewhere. You can get that next guy. And then the question becomes, What do you willing to give up a spa? Ra's a draft choice And we know Chris Ballard covets draft choices. For heaven's sake we're talking about, you know, he made a hell of a deal last year and get divorced, But they're here applaud that over and over and over again. If the forest Buckner never plays another play, That was a brilliant move, And it was great. You need to find your quarterback in a similar situation, because let's just face it. You look around the league and the A F C is not going to get any. You went 11 and five and where the seven seed and these quarterbacks in the A F C are all gonna be around for a little while, So you're gonna have to upgrade that position. And if you watch your own Allen today, kid completed 74% of his passes, was there leading rusher with 54 yards. He was the reason they won the football game. The court didn't have that. That to me was the difference. Key plays key players in big games like that. You needed somebody to step up. And and I agree with you Cab I thought Philip played about his good of the game is he could've played. I thought he got him in the right place. I was impressed with everything. Um, it was just not good enough. And and so they're gonna have to make some adjustments and a lot of places, but Money in the couch salary cap money that they have spent in that quarterback position. There has to be changed around because you've got very slender. Do you want to pay? You got to decide on T Y Hilton? I think, but we cookers probably gone. I mean, you're quitting. Nelson is in the future that you got to pay him. There's a lot of money decisions. They're gonna have to be made with this team. So you better be smart about how you address the quarterback position. Now, some of this statement is just talk show fodder. But if I was running that football team, I would go down this path. I wouldn't let anybody know about it, but I'd be calling Andrew luck one more time. Just think about this. This was really his first season away. It seems like it's been five years, but it wasn't realistic if you want him to come back for him to come back after last season because he went to training camp In 2019. He didn't decide He wasn't playing until September and he was beat up. He wanted time away. It was a short season on and it would take the next year. If he is contemplating it. He started to do it late this season. If his body feels good, you make that call one more time and just say Hey, We have a window here. We don't have a quarterback under contract if you want to play The spot is yours. He 95% says No. Maybe 99% says No, but I'm calling him just to make sure I think you need to just because of all the money that you paid and the goodwill that Jimmy Irsay has shown towards him. Remember, Andrew Luck has made $50 million of the total money that he's made. He had two years of $25 million when he didn't play it down. Play the handful of doubts it would. It wasn't much so it I think I think you're right in that regard. You make the phone call, but I'm not counting on that a bit. I mean anybody that Yeah. Anybody that knows Andrew Luck knows. The kid is not wishy washy. So why he decided not to play Why you decided to quit on the team and why I decided to quit when he did is inexplicable to me. Especially going him a zoo..

"The third game is in the second quarter. 12 59 left. And Washington has just scored a touchdown here to make it 96 bucks over Washington with the extra point coming, so I mean, Alex Smith. Courtney is out because of his calf injury. Taylor Hi, Nikki. Has gotten the start. And you know, Tampa got off to a better beginning with a Tom Brady touchdown to Antonio Brown. But Washington gets the ball back marches down the field and they're on the board. Extra point is good. 97 Washington trails the bucks right now here early second quarter. I don't think anybody who would have thought like Taylor. Hi. Nikki would play well in this game. And obviously, you know, it's it's early on is you know 59 for 93 yards and an interception, but No, he said. He's good with his feet. He's had a couple scrambles that you know, helped them down in the red zone. You know, they're having to do this without Ronald Jones, because they're the bucks are going to have to do this. Is that Ronald Jones and study that you take away Part of their rushing attack. So you think about what the bucks what Washington's gonna have to do defensively. It's not just a game that you're gonna be hoping for a prayer on special teams and that your pass rush is going to be able to affect Tom Brady. I think offensively at least early on J D. They look like they can hold their own. But we're gonna see y'all on that last. JD McKissick had the short touchdown run on third and goal. That's how Washington got on the board again. 97 Bucks in front early second quarter so good game in the night cap. The other two games were also pretty competitive today. First Buffalo Bill's home playoff game since 1996 and their first playoff victory. Courtney since 1995 Bills win 27 24. Over the Colts of Josh Allen, a very good game making up for last year's kind of uneven postseason performance. He throws for 324 yards and two touchdowns to find digs. Catches a touchdown. So obviously there was euphoria with the bills. He was their head coach, Shah McDermott, sharing his feelings after the game got is good. Just Extremely, extremely blessed. It figures to be a part of this with me and my family. And, uh, You know? So you know, all of the next one Alistair looking for he gets arrested. I am just relaxing a little bit and watch some of these other games play and But it's no reason to play offs and I thought our guys Our guys really showed a lot of guts to do it. I mean, tough game, Cordy back and forth. The Colts were gained. They've had a great defense all year. Good offensive line. Philip Rivers certainly was pretty good today, also throws for two touchdowns. Um, but in the end, you're the bills make the defensive play Micah Hyde bats down the Philip rivers of his final pass attempt. And there you go, Bills Mafia as the first playoff win in the quarter of a century. I feel great for the bills and their fan base and how long it took for them to get to this point. I mean, they've been on the up and up for a couple of years now and to finally see it culminate in a playoff win. No. I'd like to see this team go to the Super Bowl. They probably would be the most exciting next to the Chiefs and, you know, have a fresh story line there. But on the flip side of that J D. I feel really bad for the Colts and how their season ended. They're not your typical seven seed and granted. They were the first seven seed to play in the playoffs, and we'll see what happens when the Bears do it tomorrow. But Cash, Some of the play calling and I know that Frank Reich was aggressive, and it's good, and that's how they were on fourth down throughout most of the regular season, but Going for two early on when, when Jonathan Taylor gets stuffed right at the goal line and costly, fourth down decision when they're up at the end of the first half 10 to 7 and then buffalo goes and drives down the field. Really, really quickly until there's 14 seconds, laughing. They run off 17 straight points for a 24 10 lead, and then the Colts are fighting back from that. It just felt like they got overwhelmed so quickly in that game and as much as they tried to fight back is eventually after the failed two point conversion attempt. They had to go forward to get on that second touchdown on the touchdown after that, It was too little, too late and I hate it for Philip Rivers because I know that he has been milling retirement. And apparently there's something lined up and he might be of high school coach next year, but obviously nothing final. But I would hate for this to be the way that he goes out even though I kind of feel that That's the way it's trending. We had a great year. I mean again. They were 11 win teen They were right there with the bills after the Chiefs, the second best team in the F C this year. The rivers throws for 3092 touchdowns and here was the veteran quarterback after the game, was asked if he had decided yet whether he was coming back next year. No, It's not that easy. Um, you know, um I mean, I don't know this round with an answer often, but I think this probably sums it up. Um, whatever God's will is for me, my family. If it's here on any plane of the year, there will be here and if it's not, I'll be on the sidelines somewhere. I know where I'll be on the sidelines ball cap. Coaching the heck out of the hospital football team down in south Alabama, So whatever God's will is, is what is what I want that and I'll be fine with that. Stick like, keep going. I'll go on. And all of that answer would be nothing but a bunch of emotion talking, but I think that zoo the other day that's clearly what will guide the decision. They think about this too. I let's say for the Rivers does retire. How attractive is that Colts quarterback job going to be next year? I mean, they can't They have to go out there and hit another home run. Don't think I mean they have to be involved. With one of these quarterbacks that is rumored to be on the trading block. Yeah, I don't know if Houston would trade somebody in their division a trade to Shawn Watson to somebody in their division. But if I'm the Colts, I'm offering the farm because You need. They're not in a place where they're gonna be drafting high and their quarterback may retire unless you want to roll with Jacoby percent. I just don't think that you know they need to shore up that position and make sure that with the rest of this roster the way that it's been built, and they've got a very talented team and their defense, I mean The question everybody was posing this week. Why have they been playing more single high? Will their corners have actually played really well, the last like 67 weeks of the season, and you know they can disguise some of their coverages. It's I think it's the reason why Matt Superfluous is is, you know a top candidate right now for multiple head coaching jobs, especially since there's not that many defense of guys who are getting these interviews. They've done really well, so make sure that you hit a home run with that quarterback position. I mean, they were obviously involved last year in free agency getting rivers once you know he moved on from the Chargers, but Have to do it and back to back years. That's tough in. You know, I need to take a look at what their cap situation is. But if you want one of these top guys that either you know Carson wants potentially Makes sense because he played for Frank, right when he was in Philly, or even into Shawn Watson..

"Whatever God's will is for me, my family. If it's here on NBA player of the year there will be here. And if it's not, I'll be on the start line somewhere. I know where I'll be on the sidelines ball cat coaching the heck out of high school football team down and stop all about. So, um, whatever God's will is is Aziz what I want to have. And and I'll be fine with that if I keep going if I go on, and all of that answer would be nothing but a bunch of emotion talking, but I think that zoo the other day that's clearly what will Guy that decision and look, it's very clear what he's gonna do one or the other. There's not a lot of in between there. When you get that answer that you did. It's either Indianapolis or bust. For Philip Rivers moving into next year. It kind of sounds like he's ready to coach football. He sounded A little excited about like his voice perked up, You know? I mean, this is a guy as we know, with extended family, very big family. A lot of kids, you know the chance to What a career to bed and go spend time with them and coach high school football back to the essence of it all might be intriguing for him on could be a gravitational pole when it comes down to it, But you know for him, that's just having an out too. Depending on what the Colts want to do. I I do like that. He cleared that up. It's going to be into your bust. You know, there's no need to go to the Jets for a year as a stopgap, her head, you know, Actually, I wonder if a team like Washington know they strike out on Some other quarterbacks sweepstakes, and they give a Gallic rivers of colleges to help for a year. You never know. I think I don't think he's going to Brett Farve route, but I do think he would maybe keep the door slightly open. Just like that all depends on the Taylor Hideaki show coming up in just a few minutes tonight as the Washington football team takes on Tampa. Meanwhile, it has gone final in Seattle. The Seahawks Are out. They lose to the Rams 30 to 20 your final score today. Russell Wilson did not have a very good day at all for the Seahawks. Finishes 11 of 27 for just 174 yards and Jared Goff, who did not start today. John Wolf Fur did finishes nine of 19 for 1, 55 and a touchdown, but the big contributor the running game camp Acres 28 carries 131 yards and a touchdown in a fantastic job by the Los Angeles Rams. Defense Man..

You steered me off the ledge. I'm gonna go with buffalo. I think buffalo's the second best red zone team on third down in football this year. They're scoring at a rapid rate. I think brian daboll were really have a good handle on. The eib reflects defense. And when i look at philip rivers the last two games in january that he's played the baltimore game that they want was fifty two degrees but when he plays below forty one degrees. He's played three games. He's lost all three. I'm gonna go buffalo and since you me that the team wins their cover. So that i'm gonna pick tick. Buffalo galvin lead dude. Colts have ability to play down and up to teams. Let's go philip. Rivers five and two against the spread road. Playoff games rivers four. No wild card weekend and bills have the worst run defense of any team in the playoffs this year. Jonathan taylor to the todd town called cisco to keep it closer. We can't let it get away from of a ballgame all take the points. Bharti's going bills guppies with colts pat. I'm going with colts. Just because i don't want to have to wear Area who wanna

"I'm doing great. How are you, Jerry? I'm good. Thanks. Seven football games really over the next several days, six NFL games it with regard to the wild card round in each conference, three apiece. And, of course, the NC double a national championship game. Let me start with the NC double again. Real quickly. Um e mean, I'm reading stuff and I don't I haven't been able to see it over the last couple of hours. But is there a concern that Ohio State's got a covert outbreak and may have some some issues, especially with regard to members of their defense? Yeah, that looks like that's a potential to happen. Just mean. Happening all season. Of course, we'll never know who who's out. They won't tell anyone, but, um, yeah, it looks like that's gonna happen. I've heard I don't think they'll do this. But there's been talk about moving the game back farther. Um Which would benefit Ohio State because their quarterback fields really got banged up last week Rive injury and I don't think he's close to 100% so, but that's that's potential. And, um yeah, that's what we're hearing, too. So we'll see what happens in the next few days. I don't know if this is affected the line at all and in the short run. No. The line opened right around seven, Um Alabama favored by seven and its bounce back and forth kind of between seven and eight. Ever since. I think the line I think the line value might be a little bit with Alabama because I think of Ohio's if this game would have been played in the semi finals, I think I think Alabama would have been tan. At least you're probably right about that. I mean, so so you would kind of lean to the side. Forget about the covert factor that Ohio State might be getting a little too much respect after they really did traumas, claims and pretty pretty solidly. Yeah, they did. And, yeah, just just line value wise based on that. I think I think Alabama's getting Er, Ohio State's getting a little too much respect based on what they did, and they played a great game. If they play like that again, you know, I think it'll be a good game. I don't know if they can pull that off again. We'll see what the line values definitely there. They're not underdog very often fact Ohio State's been an underdog. Just 18 times since 2008 and they've covered 15 of those homes and even more interesting. The last eight times they've been an underdog. They've won. The game seven of those times out right now, that's that's a really interesting number 15 and three against the spread when there are dogs that Zen thing to ponder, Let's go to the NFL. The Saturday Games. The early game is the Colts up in Buffalo against the Bills, Bills or 6.5. Point favorite. The last time I looked, Josh Allen, people don't know how good this guy is The Bills quarterback. Oh, he's outstanding. I mean, he's got 40 plus touchdowns. The problem with him has always been in the accuracy even in college and You know, they say you can't improve accuracy. That's kind of the one thing that you can't do if you if you throw a snowball to hit a tree, either, Heather, you don't you're not gonna improve on that. And but he has. I don't know how he has, but he's a lot more accurate this year. That's another game. Jerry, think the line Line value. It is with Indianapolis in that game, just based on Just based on what the lines have been. This is the highest spread buffaloes laid at home the entire season. Um, two weeks ago or three weeks ago, they were hosting Pittsburgh and Buffaloes favored by two in that game. And then Indianapolis A couple weeks after that was favored at Pittsburgh, and now Indianapolis was getting almost a touchdown. Buffaloes covered eight straight games. They're kind of the public hot team right now. I wouldn't be surprised if this goes to seven, and I think if it goes to seven Indianapolis is probably worth a look in that game. It is interesting the calls Philip Rivers is their quarterback and and old Man River is he still can get hot and getting offense to move? Jonathan Taylor, the expander had a pretty good rookie season is running back with Cole's defense is actually quite good. And that'll be an interesting matchup. The Colts D against that Josh Allen, who is a very, very Hot quarterback. The mid day game on Saturday is the Rams Seahawks in Seattle Seahawks. Last time I looked three point favorites, eyes the Rams quarterback in the place. Jared Goff gonna play. That they're not going to say that that's going to be really hard game to handicap. It's bouncing between three and 3.5 right now. Which is if God plays and he was healthy is high because 22 weeks ago they played and Sienna was a one point favorite at home. Um, so it's a little high if God plays, but he's not gonna be 100%, even if he does play had surgery on his thumb. So, um, pain if Woolford plays You know, he's never played in a playoff game, and that's the hit historically. That's bad. In fact, first time quarterbacks and playoff games are 14 and 36 against the spread. So if you if it's the first time you've ever played a playoff game, you're probably not covered. If you want to say those teams that are doing that, and Mayfield in the same situation with Cleveland, I am The The night game on Saturday is Tampa Bay in Washington. This game is in D. C. Tampa Bay is an 8.5 point favorite. I know that everybody's all over Tom Brady, and they've got some some weapons. He's got some weapons at his disposal. But Washington is a sneaky, good defense, too, especially along their defensive line and If they somehow can get some pressure on Brady and get him off a spot. You know, I'm not so sure that Washington can't win that game out, right? Yeah, That's the key with the key with playing against campus offenses to get pressure on Brady, and that's kind of the Everyone knows how that works. I mean Washington's forth and quarterback pressure rate this year, so they're one of the best that rushing the quarterback, Brady stinks against pressure. I mean, he's he completes, like 40 for 3% of his passes, and he's 31st quarterback rating when he's pressured, which is one of the worst in the NFL. Obviously If they get pressure on him. They'll have a chance here. Here's a really interesting step that we dug up. I did not know this until This year. But since 2002 there have been seven teams that have made the playoffs with a record of 500 or worse. Washington's at seven and seven and nine. So they're you know, they're one of those teams. So all those seven teams of 2002 that made the playoffs at 500 worse. Seven and all against the spread in the wild card round, and they won six of those seven games out. I'm that's surprising. It's interesting. I'm not totally stunned by that. The Sunday Games we'll skip over the Ravens Titans game. The Bear Saints game is the mid day game. You know, That's the Saints. Last time I checked was There were 10 point favorites. I guess that might be picked up a half a point, or are you gonna full point in the bear score enough against the state? Because you know the same. They're gonna probably put up 30, right? Yeah, that that opened eight. It's our way up to 10 10.5, which is an overly surprising the Bears offense played well down the stretch. They and they won three of their last four games. Since Strabinsky took over..

"Oversensitive Brian Baldinger and company Cold's got stopped JAG. So now Philip Rivers and company will started their 22 moving left to right, Jonathan Taylor of alone running back and he's got the call sweep on the left side of the 25 carries his tackler all the way past the marker to get the first down in one more. Up to the 33 Yard line Rookie from Wisconsin 84 yards coming into this game needed for 1000 and Brian. He's off to a good start, right right behind the new left tackle Jared Bell during that time, who got the outside linebacker? Look Amon Chase on down on the ground, and it got Taylor into the alley. And he just carried Wilson for that first and trips to the right to receivers top left for rivers. Empty backfield works out of the gun and back to throw sense. It upfield. Little miscommunication there tried to Damn it and asked him doing one of his wide receivers that passing complete. It'll be second down and fend this 10. This is Philip Rivers 244th game in the National Football League. Is 240th consecutive start. Brett Fav, of course, has the most to 97. But Brian This'll Guy has been durable. He plays hurt, and that's why he's been around a long time. Well, he's got that durable genes, Bill. I mean, it's just there's really no answer for why he just can't keep lining up and delay. Here's Taylor cuts left at the 40 and off to the races. 50 far sideline 41 man trying to catch him at the 20. Any forces him out of bounds along the far sideline inside the 10 yard line. They're gonna market of the sixth. Jonathan Taylor just turned it outside left. How about 61 yards? He has a big cut back that time. He's going right? And then he saw the back door open, and then he hit the Jets. Just another gear and clay books just took a good angle to get him out of bounds. But That's what Jonathan Taylor didn't Wisconsin for four years there. The pride of Salem, New Jersey, Bill I mean, not many people from Salem, New Jersey, on his father raised him right and he's gonna be a good pro and he's having a great rookie season and they actually said he went out of bounds of 11. So it's first down and 10. He'll get the call again. Running right bounces off a tackle on down. He goes short game on the product played Christmas. Quite. Brooks actually saved the touchdown over 27. Starting right corner isn't on the tackle their game down to the eight yard line. Pick up a three, so it'll be second down on seven yards to go. Colts Nothing. Jaguars Nothing. Clock is ticking. We're early in the first quarter with 11 16 to go in it. Michael Pittman is back in the lineup. He's was on IR for about three games, and he's listed as a wide receiver. He's out far side left on second down in 10 rivers out of it. Got hands it off. Taylor trying to cut back left, and they got him stopped at the six yard line. Two more tough yards and that'll set up a third down and five You mentioned Michael Pittman. You know, in the second round, they have a first round pick with because they gave it up for the forest Buckner. In the second round. They picked up Michael Pittman Jr. And Jonathan Taylor. People question why draft John Taylor? They had Marlon Mack, who's coming off the 1000 yard season and thank goodness they did Marley back her earlier this year. Jonathan Taylor got kind of a slow start, but well, he's really come on here in the second half of the season on Mac Tourist Achilles in the opener against Jacksonville and Taylor is taking over hasn't been a smooth ride for him. But he's been on a group lately. Third down and 57 back to throw rivers tosses near the goal line caught See why help Touchdown colts. Hey, jammed between two defenders in the number 13 6 yards striking the culture on the board. Well, that was some drive by the Colts. I mean, just one positive play after another, but the Y Hilton It's just so experienced. He saw the opening in the zone that you talked about Bill between two defenders and Philip Rivers. Put it right on just a stick Throw And Philip Rivers still looks like he just pushes that ball, but he pushed it really fast. T y Hilton Rodrigo's Blankinship on to try the extra point. Former Georgia Bulldog snap kick is on the way and inside the left up right and good. Nice drive for the Colts as they marched downfield. So we've got 10 16 to go in the first quarter. Our.
Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Indianapolis Colts this weekend
"Look the american football conference. The playoffs are not intact as of yet the steelers just a few weeks ago where the number one seed in the american football conference now. They are the number three seed after three straight losses. Look this team yes. They are in the playoffs. But they are fighting for momentum redemption and seating. And it's very important that they take care of their own business by beating the indianapolis colts which is going to be a tough task. The colts are coming in at ten and four. They ride a fantastic defense behind a forest buckner and also darius leonard and very capable offense as well led by the old wily veteran by the name of philip rivers. Yes they know him. They have been around him a lot in the last seventeen seasons and rivers has faced off against ben roethlisberger as well remember he was the guy who was supposed to go to the steelers and number eleven but ben roethlisberger was picked instead because he went earlier on to the new york giants and then was promptly traded to the sago charters. Thank you ally manning for refusing the play in san diego. You're whiny ways really helped pave the way for to super bowl champions in the pittsburgh steelers in that era.
Philip Rivers and Kirk Cousins' Season Outlook
"This has become a big part of the season. The the quarterback lawyers out there so it became a topic that i talked about on monday because of the romo defending brady and basically criticizing arians but it seems like a lot of the athletes. Hate the Law offices of romo and collins worth all of these guys that seem to protect the quarterback but then it was another level for the monday night. Game with wentz where people were so mad. Anytime brian greasy would be like well actually was a screen and they missed the block here and it was on again and it looks a lot of guys i used to work with. Espn like name is. They know they are. They got so mad about the. The defense of any of these. Quarterbacks is fair when it comes to the stuff you're at home your home just like the rest of us are watching these games. They give me a break of the tampa thing and then wentz. Yeah i mean. I don't think either quarterbacks in a good situation right now when you look at those two guys. But i also think there's some i mean to to absolve either. One of them of blame is crazy to me. Neither one of our plan well So that to me. It's kind of more a little bit more nuance there. I don't think either one of them are in the right system. That fits what they do right now and the other side of it as well. But that's where you find yourself. Your job is to execute with the situation. You find yourself in. i think carson's little carson's is is is a longer story About everything that's going on there with him to me. He looks like somebody who's kind of just completely lost his confidence you know. See what a guy it out in hoops curious around like in football. We talk about guys to start guiding the ball right. They don't they don't have any confidence or trust and you're really trying to guide the ball and then you end up with some really bad messes. I don't know if a shooter go through a slump. What what that looks like. But that's what it looks like with carson. There's nothing like a quarterback who's lost confidence it really. I think eventually like if you're a decent shooter not just going to not be able to shoot for year. Because you're bummed out. I mean paul george in the bubble so whatever But i don't know what the excuse was another playoff games. I think the biggest thing that you'll notice basketball is a guy who was a guy coming back from some kind of injury and he's good to go it's not like he doesn't trust his knee. And you played a lot of basketball. He's just stuff around the rim. he's inbetween decisions. Sometimes you just forget to drive usually remember used to drive past guys but eventually all that stuff goes away. I don't think there's anything as long lasting in basketball is there is is. The quarterback is completely lost. And then you'll see guys who lose so much confidence they start changing the way they've played like that's one of the crazy things about the cousin story. Is that cousins. Was somebody who took no chances to kind of make his way into the game. And then he had some decent statistical seasons and then he actually started. I think chuck in the ball a lot last year. Know what he actually came around. And then you know. He has dug game after they beat the saints. Which wasn't surprising to me. And then the beginning of this year. He was chuckling at all over the place and they were terrible for complete like changed who they became as a team with cook and yet cousins was great. Cousins will have these moments where he's like two completely different guys which is my biggest with ever putting him up in higher group with with some other people have them up there but cousins to me like in some areas. There's some similarities to rivers. And that i always felt like with rivers man if if if he hits that that hot stretch for him when he get. The postseason like flat goes agree. Example flack over sixteen seventeen games in any season his career. Like you're not. You're not going to buy that as a change of quarterback but he always had that ceiling for manufacturing it for three or four weeks. He's capable of doing that in off they go. I've always kinda put rivers in that category. That if he could get in the tournament and just had to have one of those hot streaks he could carry them and cousins is kind of like the the next version of that were I don't trust kirk over sixteen games but in a three or four game stretch. If you've got the good version kirk cousins like that's that's dangerous. He could actually do something. I always like rivers way more cousins. I wouldn't say this version of rivers but you know he's more accomplished definitely more -ccomplish but i'm just still saying that that rivers his hot stretches lasted longer than any of kirks hot stretches. But i've seen rivers put together three unbelievable games and then just added nowhere. You're like dude what what happened. Like just a clunker can happen so that that to me is where i find a little bit of the similarity there.
Philip Rivers Passes Dan Marino For Fifth Place On NFL's All-Time Passing Yards List
"38 years old. With a restart on his career. In Indianapolis, and as much as Philip Rivers is generally a wild ride, and he is I. I've called him a poor man spread far for years. He's a gun slinger. He's got different arm angles. Obviously, he's Confident guy, but he generally has a couple moments in each game where he gunslingers to the wrong team. He nearly had an interception in this game and had a couple of balls that were off the mark. But that's that's rears. I mean to be boring, if if it was steady right that wouldn't fit Philip Rivers. Well, like it or not. He is headed to the Hall of Fame when he retires. Every time I say this people get all fired up, but it's the truth. On Thursday night. He moved into Fourth place Now Excuse me, Fifth place all time on the NFL's Career passing list. Passing one Dan Marino. With 11 yard completion. This was early in the game. He only needed a handful of yards. To get past Dan Marino. And he was well over 300. He's now it's 61,666. That's a lot of sixes 61,666 for his career. And there are only four quarterbacks who have more passing yards in their careers than one Philip Rivers. You know all about Brett Farve. Peyton Manning. Tom Brady, Drew Brees. They're so playing, they're still bound to keep racking up more yards as his Philip Rivers. All for those guys. Either Hall of Famers or bound for the Hall of Fame. So his rivers now there's a big difference, obviously, because he has not won a Super Bowl and generally doesn't have that same success in the postseason. There's still time those of you who are Colts fans. You know, earlier this year I think it was weak three was definitely the first month he became Just the sixth quarterback in NFL history. To throw at least 400 touchdown passes. And he's likely so he's sitting in that six play spot right now he's likely to pass the in Rio before the season is up and work his way to the top five. So then he's in the top five all time and passing yards and all time in touchdown passes. Of course, he's going to the Hall of Fame.
Colts grab tiebreaker in AFC South by beating Titans 34-17
"It is an apple as in Tennessee sure the AFC south we did six and three following the colts thirty four seventeen win over the Titans in Nashville Philip rivers completed twenty nine of thirty nine passes for three hundred eight yards and a touchdown as the colts handed the Titans their third loss in four games since the five AM start Indianapolis entered the game leading the NFL in fewest yards allowed before limiting Tennessee to two hundred ninety four total yards about ninety below its season average Derrick Henry ran for a hundred and three yards on nineteen carries for the Titans who didn't score after halftime Ryan Tannehill was just fifteen of twenty seven for one hundred forty seven yards and a TD I'm Dave Ferrie

Mina Kimes' Eclectic Career
"We want to start out by talking about your career which is really interesting to me. You've made some big changes moving from investigative business journalism too long form sports writing and fighting to hosting podcasting and commentating and these are all really. Hartfield to break into. Could you tell us about these transitions? And you know was was sports journalism something. You're always headed towards. None of these jobs were ones that I was doors or ones that I ever aspired to do. You know I kind of fell into all them So now that I've alienated. Everyone right from the trump wants to do these things Yeah no I don. I was going to be like you guys like arts writer or more cultural criticisms kind of interesting to me out of college and then I fell into business. Journalism Durin Internship for magazine called Fortune. Small Business got job at Fortune magazine out of college. Writing about finance and investing moved to doing features than doing investigative features moved to Bloomberg News whereas they're investigative team and I. I've always loved sports but I never aspired to be in sports as a career. Never ASPIRE TO BE ON TELEVISION. Never aspired to do commentary. Espn reached out to me. I'll just didn't really seem like an option for me. Just didn't seem like something that somebody like me would even do quite frankly But but along those lines I don't think business journalism seemed like an option to me. Either I mean when I was in college is just didn't occur to me so. Espn Kinda made the Kimball. The idea for me. They hired me in two thousand fourteen as a features writer. After reading your piece about Your Dad yes. So I wrote a personal essay about football and editor their name. Meghan Ren- greenwell riche down. So you you seem. You seemed like football tweet about it a lot a lot of dumb stuff. She didn't say that. But that's accurate depiction of my twitter and So I was kind of like extensively a serious financial journalist at the time but Football and sports more. Broadly was my passion. So I I was worth twenty nine or something I suppose. Yeah decided to make the leap which was pretty terrifying. What did you grow up wanting to be like as a kid Painter Oh yeah and I still pay not well not a good painter but I do like watercolor sometimes of football players really. Yeah so do you draw them to then or yeah. I do a lot of things I just get I I know insane and then I sometimes I just get a gift. Like a little watercolor set or something. And I'll just use it up and then buy another one. That's what football players do. You have a series of Philip rivers just because I like you so emotive super splitting looking and then I did them all and I said why. Don't want these. So I just auctioned off for Homeless Charity here that works with homelessness that were considered roads a great compassion direction and I was shocked that somebody wanted them and result out of money so I did it again this year. Oh my gosh you do this regularly. Wow that's cool. How much money did you make if you don't well this year? I did so. I did a Korean while. I am obsessed with the kicker young white coup. Oh yeah after the night of three onside kicks legendary night in. Nfl history. And I did a few others like marshawn lynch disguise I liked and I think I sold five of them. Maybe something five or six but I raised thirty five hundred dollars. Wow Wow you definitely interesting. Like if you're selling a five hundred dollars like let's add painter to the bile thank you.
Tom Brady Becomes a Tampa Bay Buccaneer
"Because I don't want to run out of time I do want to touch on what transpired in patriot world today yes Tom Brady is now Tampa Bay bucs the it is borderline old news now because it's a couple days add the reverberations will go on for a very long period of time there after but the news itself is not breaking today you did have a couple of moves that were breaking news today in New England give me a read on the two sidings the patriots had brain a couple of the guy I talk play for my jets this year not a bad player as a matter of fact and the return of Brian Hoyer to potentially compete for the starting quarterback job there in New England give me your thoughts on both to two months yeah I think they're directional moves I think as soon as you know sort of the cold side Philip rivers you know a lot of people around here we're thinking that you know reunion with lawyer or maybe even Jacoby percent was up author bility I think the horrible exactly he's got he's got great knowledge of this offense he knows that locker room he does the coaching staff so he'll come in and help you know if not compete for the starting job to always be a great sounding boards for Jarrett Stidham you know who's kind of a presumptive you know successor to Brady a fourth round pick out of Auburn last year so a great locker room guy you know like I said very knowledgeable and you know one thing about Brian Williams when the patriots won the Super Bowl against the rams two years ago he was universally wanted by his teammates for his ability to run the scout team and kind of morph into the opposing quarterback down the stretch in the playoffs run so really good guy really good signing I just just make a lot of sense for him to be here you know Brandon Copeland the guy who did the patriots has seen up close for a number of years now where they pay it you know in the at the I got at the Coachella tickets Oct glowingly about the past seems like the patriots have a guy you know good special teams guy and also has that versatility that the patriots love in their life back together can rush the passer he can drop in coverage you can play the run picnic walk a lot of guys in free agency this week Kyle van Noy Jamie Collins in the Robert so really need to restock that line backing core and feel good start getting brand coke on a guy who they had interesting last offseason but weren't able to
Philip Rivers isn't QB of the future, but he can buy Colts time to figure out who is
"Quarterback Philip rivers has ended his time with the Chargers officially as he signed a contract with the colts on
