"Was trying to a little positively. It's hard it's hard. Yeah very hard. We haven't even mentioned well atlanta philadelphia. What's the name kibbe. all right. We got to atlanta. The game is atlanta philadelphia right. We'll tell you about the rules of the game if you don't know him coming up here in a minute. Hey kenna kenna yellow. Are you there you no kidding. We lost her own her him them well to be fair. We hadn't explained the rules by kids. Like i'm not gonna. I don't even know the rules. Do this seat plane yours commissioner. To explain the rules each week we predict the outcome of an nfl game and this week as we just added as the philadelphia eagles which is why. Stu joins us at the atlanta falcons. Which is why keith joins us. So that's the game we're going to predict and we do that by calling convenience stores and Some shadow over a stores Other restaurants Surrounding area places where people would come together and if they answer the phone we talked to them and we asked them my questions and the team that answers the most questions wins the game and we treated like a football game. Four quarters for questions. Each quarter most questions answered correctly wins the game with that. How we predict the outcome. Now you can gamble if you want. We don't want you to use us to to win. My legal though in many states is it. Okay to gable. If you are in a state where it's legal. Sure why not. Okay just wanna make sure. I understand but still america. I mean we got your freedoms choices you know wherever you want to do. Whatever you want. Can i ask a moron trivia historian type of question here in the intro that jeffy just a laid out. He laid out several different places to call. And i kinda remember this from last year. But why we're no longer just calling convenient during the pandemics. Don't know if you know this. We're in the middle of the pan-demic eighteen months. As a matter of fact pretty close tomorrow will be eighteen month anniversary since fifteen days to flat. Mccur we've found that Convenience stores may or may not answer to branch out now you calling other houses. Maybe that we call like the a waffle house or i hob You know the international house. Where do you feel that. That taints the results at all. Or you're just asking for clarification. I think i'm here. I'm looking. I i have a book deal to write an expose about more interviews and I thought it was a good i. I'm just interested. Has it affected the results. The iq quotient together. Oh yeah that's not what you want. No you want to be is lowest possible. Yes and now. Of course Keith is atlanta falcons my philadelphia eagles. Usually there's a plethora of people who don't know what they're talking about in these cities but you're saying we're getting up to the point where people might know things about your furnace is the vice president of the united states possible the average american probably never really i wonder has is that why we had such a down year last year trivia. Maybe we're calling it very well. We also found. We also found a lot of times. We were getting. we were hoping to get A few people in other particular stores that might not be of great mental persuasion because during Since people were looking for jobs prior to the pet democ the people at convenience stores were also getting a little bit smarter so they were working at the giants they were to how the economy is smart. People working cram. because it's kinda sad it is. Hey buddy i understand. There's a new t. Shirt that people can involve themselves with Maybe purchase yes online. Because well it's football season. It started up and of course when football season starts. We got to see the black national anthem last night. I hope everyone enjoyed that. I missed know it. Because i think We have the white national anthem For week two. I don't know what that is. Because i thought we had a national anthem. I did see the regular national. They put that as well as they did. Play that as well. But i mean i want additional anthems. We have the asian national anthem in week. Three three for do the cuban national anthem in week four. They're going to do this every week. Now i think i think the same thing. Last year they played it just in. Yeah okay which. I don't really. I don't know all right black national anthem. You get your one week. And then the black national anthem. I don't know that glenn new. Yeah it's He's remember he did ospel or something. Yeah remember he did all those like black founding fathers shows and so he knew the song and he actually looked loved the story behind the song. I don't remember it off the top of my head. But i remember glen being like actually. This is a great song. It shouldn't be called the black national anthem issue. Just be it just a great song so anyway On that note as we enter the woke era of the nfl. Colin kaepernick is going to be on. Everybody's mind once again. And there's one thing that i can get a job get poor guy. Because he's just you know he's too good at quarterback he was in in madden this year. He's rated above half of the starting quarterback said like the law. Mike in re. Because there's this myth that he was actually a great quarterback who lost his job because he took a knee. Data is what everyone thinks. And so this church is simply reminds. People always remember colin kaepernick before calling kaepernick took a knee. He lost his job to blaine gabbert. No one remembers this one hundred percent true and gabbard outplayed him that year. That is awesome So now you can see the and i. It sort of looks like a pro colin kaepernick shirt unless you look really closely always remember before. Colin kaepernick took a knee. He lost his job. To blaine. gabbert is available to merged. Yeah and you know the only reason we've talked about this. The only reason he even in the super bowl is because the falcons blew a huge home to the forty niners in james game. So the falcons are the reason why that man is super bowl and really if you look back at his career. Because i've done tire shows on. Because i cast. It's not even the woke nature of colin kaepernick. I'm just so annoyed. They make him out to be a football player. It drives me crazy. So i went back and did a whole show on his career and you look at the only reason the only argument that there is that exists. He actually was a halfway. Decent quarterback is that first year when no one knew it was coming. He put he. He stepped in in the middle of the year. And then the atlanta falcons handed him that super bowl seventeen to nothing at home. They were up ten in the second half. And that's the only reason why that man if you've played any other nfc team. I don't care. Yeah hey would have never been super bowl quarterback and there is a lengthy documentary those out. I don't know if you've talked about this. At all about the atlanta falcons that has just been released. It's okay it's super quirky and some of the politics will drive you crazy if you're conservative but It's it's the history of the atlanta falcons and it's It's by these guys. They do these really ridiculously depth documentaries about random sports topics like they have one whole documentary on the worst punt of all time like the single worst punt all time. It's it's only if you're a total nerd on sports. But the falcons thing is incredible because it walk through all all the crazy characters. They've had all the time that they basically lost the super bowl because one of their players decided to to try to hook up with an underage girl night before the snows undercover cop..

Cam Newton vs. Mac Jones: Where Patriots QB Competition Stands

"The other side. I it's a more interesting. Quarterback is a quarterback competition in new england. What is the sense. You get the dynamic between cam. Newton and mack jones. Yes quarterback competition. We can call it that cam. Newton is the starter plated limited amount of time against the washington football team. And then as you mentioned mack jones and it's very important not only to listen to what bill bella checks says but what he does and what he did was put back jones out there with the first team offensive line for a couple of plays at the end of his at the first half against the washington football team and then he had max jones run the two minute drill the no huddle offense and that he did with command and obviously precision and they were very impressed with that but right now what he wants to see what bill belichick wants to see and he said this the other day he to see the whole team but particularly the quarterback play faster react faster execute faster and what better way to do that than enjoying practices with the philadelphia eagles and then a preseason game on thursday night but yes there is a competition and we'll have to see how this goes in the next couple of weeks but my money is on cam. Newton starting the season and mack jones quickly getting up to speed and pushing cam newton for the starting job.

"Take out. Take out a rare mcleod. Mike kind of prediction with it. there'll be three running backs on the roster and they flip that spot too wide receiver. They carry a sixth receiver. I think that's the way they go about l. c. I have a different prediction there. I throw running backs too. But i think you might see second fullback. Trae admits the roster. And you'd see three tight ends three running backs fullbacks. Ooh what are now now. You just managed Mind h. back is a big role. I look you look pretty solid in it. That's one of my. That's actually my player to just wanna see where what time game he actually gets in. Because you have all those tight ends you've got you've got january of all those guys in the fight. See where admits comes in and plays h back because he he was. He was a number two receiver on the team in the hall of fame. Game you was number. Two and receiving yards trust. Trade admits until it from twenty sixteen to twenty one thousand nine. He had the longest run by running back already. Interesting dealers twenty nine hundred forty seven yard run. That was the longest one i okay. We are over time. But i feel like we need to bring this out here. This is my idea. Now that you've mentioned the tight end spot. I think the steelers really like gentry and raider their physical blockers This is the problem is watch when they have a move across the formation and blocked the other side. they're slow. You can't be slow at that someone. Whoever wins that job between the two of them is going to be the guy who does that. That's what if they both in the job and hear me out on this. There's one tight end that can't block could could they possibly keep the guys that can block and move on from one. Eric ibran little crazier. this is spicy. Take we that can block the steelers little bit walk over a little bit crazy little bit crazy there. That's not jeff jeff jeff. Hartmann myself had the same conversation. I thought to myself. Wait a minute. It's going to stay in the back your brain now. Lloyd's is it is now because he he can play like you know what would happen. He would still slow down play back. You watch their mobility coming across in the weird motions and the different things they do. Raider and gentry bows are much better vertically oriented vertical blockers coming across. They're not as good. And that's a big part of that. H back role. Which is where they're gonna be playing. You're only gonna have one died. Then you're going to have an off the second tight end second tied in has to move around. Okay okay. we'll see. Maybe pat firm youth ends up being this travis kill type like someone. Just throw their zindler. I that's that's you want someone to be excited for watching. Fryer moved in this offense seaworthy. Use them how they move them around. May he could be a weapon. I man i am excited for farm youth for the first time ever. It feels like the steelers have unbelievable tight end group an unbelievable punter and that's never a case like that article like the steelers a four punters. The good one from andrew lavar. I would love that mike but that wouldn't happen. Lebron is just lebron minus the l. I guess i guess you could throw the l. in there though too but eric l. e. ron there. You go door mass. It'd be lebron i know. He checks twitter often. So maybe the seo far that goes maybe kim block though but any who we are at the top of the show jeffries or anything your plug on her way out. I don't know i've done some things i do stuff. Joe go look at the stuff that i do. Wow interesting yeah those today was there not yes. Vertex came out. I know we talked about something in that. "philadelphia eagles" Discussed on Behind the Steel Curtain

"Eagles were bad last season surly because they had a dad culture. And i don't think doug peterson and i think a lot of eagles fans would agree with this is like the biggest reason why the team was bad. I think the biggest reasons for the team was bad. Because the quarterback fell off a cliff and wentz was terrible and that is not just because the coaching staff was bad his own fault zone. Doing and i think a lot of blame should go on the front office and the front office. Hasn't had the answer for that. Sarah's is still very much you're in charge but looking at what the new coaching staff has brought. I think the goal in theory at least is to kind of get more out of some of these underachieving players and the thought is okay. We need to focus more on player development and get these young guys up to speed and if we can do that maybe we actually have more talent than we think we do. We just have to develop better. The pieces are here now. I don't fully buy that. Because i think the roster needs work but i think it is apparent that this coaching staff is really trying to take the time young players for example experience really chewed out jalen rigor last week in practice after had a really bad rap. Then you know next day comes back is really good play. And he's right there to you. Know kinda give some show some love. So i think that's really been the focus trying to get more of these young players and eagles season as a whole is not like a super bowl or bus season especially coming off this bad year admittedly january. The eagles owner has said this is a quote real transition period and he compared to where the eagles were in two thousand sixteen when it was carson wentz. Is your peterson's first year. So i think this season's kind of finding answers in terms of who who what is our core who are long-term players and then kind of hopefully having a kind of a good season to take that and transition in the twenty twenty one and then start to really go all in and start really building the thing you talked about just there about them focusing on developing the younger guys and getting them going and the first two draft picks. You had this year. Haven't played much at all What are your what are what are your thoughts on where devante smith and landed dickerson are going to be this season so with devante. I think he's gonna be awesome. I think he's really really good. I really wanted to jaffa him. I use my number one target realistically and i. It's unfortunate that he's been hampered by injury here but he was doing some rehab work on a side field just yesterday so i think that's you know pretends well to him coming back within a week or two is the original timeline. So i think he'll be back and i think he'll be fine and honestly i think he's going to be the big volume target in this offense assuming he is healthy and he's not struggling. I think he's just too talented to not really Excel from the jump and then when it comes to landon dickerson It's weird because the eagles pretty much said they did not see this as a redshirt year for him now. He's been on the pup list. I'll training camp so far and it's unclear if he's going to be really ready actually on the nfl lists but same thing basically is unclear. Like when he's going to be activated from that like there's really been no talk at all so But even if he is healthy he's missed all of training camp and there isn't an obvious starting line offensive line position for him. So i guess he might be your top interior backup. Those lack of reps. Make me wonder if it is and and this actually might just kind of be a redshirt year for him. Unless it's like last year when the eagles were just so devastated by off until white injuries they had to use fourteen different combinations in sixteen games that that's not going to do any team any service but another player in its place beside the offense line. I want to bring up Zakar seems like this off season There's been a handshake deal in place with buffalo twice indie perhaps at one point Talks of a hold out all of a sudden he is a camp. Seems like he's going to be on the team. What's going on with that situation. Do you expect him to be on the roster throughout this whole year is zachary's happy like what's going on with that i definitely don't think he's happy but he is here and he still looks good. My thinking is that the eagles and it's kind of team to maybe a reluctant agreement zakar. It's part but it's like hey come into training camp have a good camp. There'll be reports of how you're looking good still and we'll make sure to talk about how great you've been a leader and everything and speak glowingly of you and we'll try to boost your trade value and then that way you do that then someone will come trading for you and then you can go free so i think maybe that's the thinking there. I think it's possible that heels might just be willing to keep him. But i think that's kind of foolish. Because if the trade him they can clear eight point five million off of their cap and i think they should because eckerd's is clearly not going to be back next season they're not signing him to an extension or if they are then they're giving a big one extension to an older player while also probably definitely not recently dallas gutter who they have waiting in the wings so i feel executives can't be here to make long-term sense. You might make us better in the short term but it's not again. It's not an all in kind of year so i just don't think it makes sense to do that. And also you need to see what you have in dallas. Got her as the number one volume target in the offense at least as tight end before you pay him a big money contract because he's a free agent after this season so i feel exactly can't be here just from a logical perspective but i cannot rule out how it was being stubborn and like well. We're not getting value for him. So we're just gonna keep them. I just think that would be a big mistake. Speaking of another target last season. Got a little bit of volume targets against the steelers travis..

"One of them. So dylan hurts this year and speaking of worse quarterbacks in the nfl i think entering the season deal hurts belongs in that conversation. That's not to say you can't get better and prove people wrong. And he's only twenty. You just turned twenty three years old. So i think there's room for him to grow but right now as a starting point he was really dad last year in terms of accuracy and he has a lot to prove so i think what he's shown in training camp. I don't really see a lot of signs that this is a night and day player. But i will allow that his game. You know him being as mobile as he is. That might not be showcase. Go as good as it will be in games as it is a kind of not being able to be featured practice. So i'm not out on dealing hurts but i think there are a lot of questions to answer. I gave up on that real quick and jalen hurts is in the category belongs in the category of were starting quarterbacks to start the season If the option of taking dwayne haskins mason rudolph josh take all three three of them. Versus jalen hurts. Which one would you take. I would take dealing. It's just because of the upside just because of the potential. I've never been a hassle guy. I i don't get it. Maybe he's doing better out there in pittsburgh. I haven't kept track to that. I just i just never really saw it with him at all. Never been a dwayne haskins guy. Just from the potential alone in the rushing mobility at the at the very least i think we can say rushing. Perspective jalen hurts is probably. Maybe the second desk rushing quarterback in the nfl. behind the jackson. Or you know the top. Three or putting charlie mary up there so at the very least i think he is that going for him whereas with doing haskins and any of those guys. There's just nothing there that really makes me feel like anything that i want to see from throw point out there about dwayne. Haskins steelers fans adore him. Because he's not mason rudolph. If if offer to throw two touchdowns and haskins through two picks and was like their stat line for thursday night people would still had a better game like. That's just the way it's going to be. He goes on stain. He throws such beautiful practice. Falls dwayne haskins. Just beautiful downfield balls in practice. Gotta love that that. That's what really really matters. But of course that is a position battle for the steelers and watching preseason action oftentimes fan base. Don't know what's going on on the other side. You break down some of the bigger position battles that Philadelphia's has gone on right now stuff steelers fans should watch out for the other side of the ball. Yeah so there was a battle in theory heading in training camp at left tackle between jordan malaysia. Who was a really interesting story for you. Guys don't know a this is a duty. Never played football in his life. Until i think it's actually against the steelers. A couple years ago was the first preseason game. He played in rugby league in australia now. He's worked his way up over the years he's developed and basically he's the guy there he's had a great training camp and honorary dillard. Now who is the other competitor has been looking terrible in training camp. So that's out of the out of the out of say a mind now for that spot but some of the other spots lookout for i mean i'll just keep a couple of players quiz watkins number sixteen In i would say. Midnight green guessing. You're gonna wear their all white jerseys to they usually do in the summer. That's a player to watch out for. He's been the best wide receiver in eagles training camp. Now mind you devante. Smith hasn't been practicing because he's been hurt. And i just think he's look better than even twenty twenty trumping jalen rigor so That's a that's a guy to watch out for if you see him. Make a big play against steelers defense or the backups. Probably like that shouldn't be like a total shock. Remember heard that name here. And then from the starters and it's not necessarily a battle in that. I think a lot of these guys earning at playing time but josh sweat number ninety four and derek burnett number ninety six an really interesting situation for them because they're both in contract years there a former first round pick in two thousand seventeen joss wet fourth round. Pick in two thousand eighteen and josh. Let's just having a monster training camp. He's living in the backfield. I think if he's playing early on he could cause some disruption for the steelers and i his great offseason is over. Shadowing derek has done. He's also been pretty good. Not quite as dominant as jazz swept but still pretty good too so those are the numbers. I'd watch out for number sixteen number ninety four number ninety six. Yeah joshua had pretty good game against pittsburgh last season to one of the wide receivers you have. Jj or sehgal whiteside. There's a guy that steeler fans were really high on going that draft. How is he done for philadelphia. I know he hasn't had the greatest house looking going into the season. So it's kinda hard to know what to make of. Jj because he does this every year at least he has the past for years where he looks good in training camp and i even bought into last year. Like all right. You turned the corner. I seem like just listening to him. Talk and interviews. He seemed like he was a little bit like mentally different and everything and he had another good camp but then the regular season rolled around. And i think except for that long pass and the steelers team which is like right before the end of the first half it was. It didn't even matter anyway because it didn't set up anything. It was a nice catch like a vacuum. But not in it didn't matter the actual game did is. It looked good again in camp not great but kind of good of working in the slot more now which seems like the just the cure all when receivers and good. He just moved into the slot. So i honestly don't think he deserves to make the eagles roster so maybe he'll be out there the steelers claim if they want them or something But might just try to hold onto him because he was a second round pick from a couple years ago they might just not be ready to give up on them quite yet but to me. I'm not seeing anything. That is that makes him like a musky kind of player. That's pretty interesting. I'm curious your thoughts on these new entirely new coaching staff as well at from what you see are the players buying in. This is a complete to take over whole new culture. Is everything kind of adjusting. The way you'd hope it to be going at this point. It's interesting because i don't think..

Report: Deshaun Watson Trade Talks Heating up Between Eagles and Texans

"Reports are out there going back to the National Football League. Shawn Watson, right now glorified practice safety for the Houston Texans. They didn't now say he's been dealing with ankle injuries. Wink, wink, nudge nudge. That's why had they have not been out their quarterback in any kind of practice that if it's Simmons I saw that maybe just maybe. The Philadelphia Eagles, who have not committed to Jalen hurts, Nick Syriana, the head coach, say Right now there's no QB one QB two, but he's done some nice things. Reports out of the Philadelphia Eagles could be interested in to Shawn Watson. This may be the worst thing to do to a brand new coach is to bring in that distraction that has not been settled in that city that loves the e A. G. "Go, but I saw the report on the crawl on the NFL network. Uh, last segment before Andrew Bogus came in and repeated it in his update. Devonta Smith, the first round draft pick of the Philadelphia Eagles and ligatures Heisman Trophy winner sprained a knee in practice. Over the weekend for the Eagles and is going to miss two or three weeks, which means he should be ready to go weak one, but it means he's probably going to miss the exhibition season. Minimum two weeks and we're only a week away from legals playing their first exhibition game. We're only a couple of days away from the first exhibition game, which is the Cowboys and the Steel is in the Hall of Fame game. But if he misses the first two exhibition game, they're not going to play him in week three. I can guarantee you that Uh, if he's coming back from a knee sprain, they're not going to play him in a meaningless preseason games. So that means he's going to come into week number one cold without having played any exhibition games. And that's unfortunate because I am a big Devonta Smith fan. If you listen to me on the weekend here on CBS

"For meters released a really cool Hide video piece. And then they had their first press conferences only took a couple of those bureaus snippets of guy. And we're thinking about. How do we make them really cool in established on like if you tell your alexa. Google device Philadelphia eagles to hype. Yup we take those Voice snippets or coaching recordings. And put him up as light. They'll be on the field and be like our guys. Go get it those type of things so actively thinking about those opportunities because we feel it's a really cool additive element but at the same time it can also hype up other ancillary content proving creating around just the same space yet. There's there's generally only about four ways that people get into voice and exclusive content can be a component of all. And what i like about what you guys have done. And this'll be probably a good segue apprentice team structure. But but i like what you guys have done is that you've taken almost. You've left everything on the table in terms of opportunity right you said. We don't need to create a new concept of new idea just for boys were going to extend some component of what we have and voice defy it Sorry that's not that self-serving Kate component of what existed and we're going to create an exclusive around that particular item or that particular subject. And just use it for voice so it's not like you're excluding all of the other channels from playing in it. You're actually extending the experience and invoice hundred percent. I think so. I think google iowa just happened. And and they think they use one of their sessions as as something to the. I think they use the word voice. Suffice or jason. You're not wrong. I think voice applies to come now and on you guys actually probably came along with the right time to to capture the. We're we're very very happy that you decided to title one of their sessions. How to voice your android. That's the one on you guys are so. Let's talk about team structure. I know that in early days when we all work together. I think at one point we probably had close to twenty people on a call right. It's gotten it's gotten a little bit smaller. Since then. But i still am able to see different people from across the enterprise. Come and go into the conversation that you guys are having what makes up sort of a core voice responsible team and then how does it. Sort of crowd interested in outer circle. Yeah i mean you know. It started again like i said we're we're a small shop so it's kind of all hands on deck when it comes to something like this but we established very early on a almost a working group that consisted. Obviously chris here By the way we referred cmec lovingly. Which i think are eagles fans knows if you guys arrested. Thanks umag he takes a. It's a pride on his collar. Short you know we. We had a working group established that consisted of our stakeholders on team stakeholders on our marketing team. As well as our guest the entire entire team structure there put now working group rule. You know the whole approach is really thinking about you. Know we're gonna start playing in this space. We have no idea how to play in this space. Some of us utilize voice in different manners and things of that sort. But you know. I think everybody's pov is. It's something that we really tried to document. Arneses especially to nearly strategic sessions that we kind of establish on jason really thinking about. How does marketing you something like this. You know how does sponsorship you. Something like this. How does eagles entertainment as a content team. Something like this. So it was important for us to idea together bringing in different perspectives. In the once we got those perspective. I think really Thinking about how to now almost funnel it into a working group. That's almost day in and day out. I can start thinking about. How do we start pulling pushing the lovers based on all the strategy. Faulk put into to this effort so based on that larger group which you met in. It's probably around twenty deep as well Be filtered now. You know chris here see. Mac is our of our chief content guide around all voice applications and to be honest his his perspective on being content creator Embracing this new challenge of this new platform was to me like it was inspiring. You probably pull them in. Push him in like thirty million directions. He could probably hit. Do but this was another thing where you know. It's it's hey unchartered territory emerging technology. You know let's go into it. And he dove headfirst so proud of him to continue and continue to think about where we can go here. We also have another Our our web developer. Actually another chris. Chris rutledge is also kind of on our day to day execution tactical team. Who helps us program out of all the different lovers at you've given us on jason in your team And in terms of figuring out what's the best welcome message. how do we create multiple. Welcome messages what are the journeys in out. Look like and others. If one person's listening to this particular podcast what do we. What do we do to programming out. You continued going down. The funnel of getting more content ensued so right now. These guys are spearheading the entire effort to be honest with you and then We were weak. We our creative team. We always bring out ideas there. We always talk about voice execution. Could be for example. Now see mac can give a couple of examples in terms of what we did schedule released and things of that sort of but we start thinking about how this is a viable platform to create new content week over week with our attention. Well i really love towards add to the team standpoint. I think it's what's great about working for. The eagles working with the eagles is that you get to collaborate with so many different departments and again it's marking its creative services But chris rutledge. He's not on this call but he's an absolute rockstar. I am worried that voice is gonna hire him because he's really getting a handle on the back end of of their system But it's it's just been a learning process. I think of as being like a script writer working with voice because you have to create conversations. Now you know back in the day. My main focus was writing long-form stories or short blog posts about the team and just documenting players journeys. The the latest games practices things of that nature. But this is different where you almost have to like. Think it's like okay. If i'm going to ask for this. What is the response going to be an and what is going to be the the the devices we go for. Yeah exactly and you have to think those different Steps down the line and it's a it's just been a very intriguing process that still We're still learning. I know voiced by just launched a new back in system their new. Cms which is going to help take some of the automation And help us in that regard. So we're looking forward to really digging deep into that to to help Be more efficient with the time. Just because the tanneries we are pulling in many different directions throughout the course of the season. Also so let me. We just have a minute or two left here in our time. Let me close out in cmec. Maybe give you give me. Your perspective is there. Is there like a future function of future state of what your fans could be able to not not committing to anything like there's something out there just sort of a blue sky idea that really gets you excited about what like three years. Four years five years now people could be doing with you guys through alexa. Google i definitely think monetization through things like merchandise and charity. Giving i mentioned are eagles autism foundation. It's a way to connect that so fans who are involved in eagles autism challenge can donate right there or or send out links to their friends so they can donate on their behalf It could be when you're watching a game and jalen hurts a fifty yard touchdown pass to devante smith. Now i wanna get that jalen hurts number one jersey. He's lighting it up. Hey alexa order me. A large midnight green number. One jalen hurts jersey. Boom you know. It's things of that nature. So so i definitely think it's that aspect of it but also more and more of you know tammi hit the fact that it's like you wanna get away from using the the alexa voice. She wanted to incorporate the players. The coaches the people were involved with the team. More to make it more about.

Chris rutledge three years Four years thirty million google fifty yard Google jalen chris devante smith android five years two a minute twenty people chris rutledge jason umag Faulk hundred percent

"As little something small as you know the the way that you're gonna use your phone the way you're gonna sized video doesn't fit across all those platforms so you have to make it unique to each one. I sort of see the mean where it's like. You have your lincoln picture and your instagram picture in there. Too late in world. That's the user behavior on those platforms. And you have to adjust to that so you have to learn about those different things. So i think initially were the pandemic hit us. Is that my access personally. Working directly with players and coaches was extremely limited. It was very much from afar. It was all virtual. It was all at a distance whereas on a typical day in a normal season. I'd be in the locker room with the players every day. I can get exclusive interviews. I can get you know fun. Facts about the place. I can have players. Do voice recordings things that could really enhance voice app so we had a kind thing baby steps. I would say this first year. We will leverage leverage. The voice of the eagles reese who has an iconic voice and it beloved by the fans and. There's those things that we wanted to build up. We had a couple of different marketing pushes throughout the year. One late in the two thousand and twenty regular season another one just around the twenty twenty one nfl draft. I think the big thing for us there was. Let's have something where fans will come. They can experience it. Get a taste of it and hopefully a that. The product works and it does seem experienced. Because if it's if it's wonky or anything like that they're not gonna wanna come back and be. Just give them something. Tammy's point about you know his kid playing on the disney app or any video game. You you have that reason to come back and it makes me think of my boys who are thirteen. Eleven and there the video games they play. It's like they add little. You know things where you can get custom uniforms. Or you know different rewards. It's that little gift that little treat. That makes you keep coming back from so you. You both brought up to subjects. That i think everyone that's looking to get into. This channel is very interested in hearing stories about one is content and the other is team right. So let's take them one by one so when it comes to content and we look at. We've looked at your editorial calendar. You know over the past year you guys have these ten goals of events right and that can be considered like these are the things you anticipate. We're going have draft day. We're going to have a early training. We're going to have the season you don't know what's going to happen in the season. So you've got this plan of what feels like back. In the day we call it sort of evergreen content versus like opportunistic. Contact the thing that we know we're going to do versus the things that are just gonna show up at our doorstep and we got to be prepared to execute. How are you guys thinking through. Those different models of content may be the wrong term. But i think you get what i'm saying like. How are you incorporating those different opportunities into how you execute cmec job on that one so being here full-time since two thousand and four things have changed in the nfl were it is a year round. It's obviously not year round sport but the news and the attention geared toward the nfl is dictate all three hundred sixty five days of the year because events like the draft. And you know right now. There's many camps and practices going on in the spring. There's always something the schedule released. This year became a huge event where. Nfl network blows it out. And there's hour long. Specials teams are doing all of this concept behind it so pretty much we have a calendar of all of our big events of the year ranging from training camps is season to the off season events and will look down the line you know one month two months three months at a time to say all right. This is on the horizon. What big things do we wanna do for this. What can we do to blow it out of the park looking at what we've done in the past with such things and then you're gonna have the day to day news things and those are the things that you need to just compliment With breaking news so on the voice app for example for the draft we had our voice. Eagles merrill reese when we drafted devante smith with the tenth overall pick. He instantly did a recording pretending that he was announcing his first touchdown in the nfl Something for fans get excited about and merrill was quite excited himself to the philadelphia. Eagles voice assistance. It's time to practice by all the first pick. The ones i spent goes deep holes. It in town one days. If you want to learn more about the draft just say tell me more about the nfl grant but we also made sure to say the nuts and bolts okay. When is the draft. Where can i follow it. Where can i watch it. Who do we pick. Who have we signed so It's that fine balance of trying to look down the road and try to plan out those big picture events and jason. That's what you and the voice team are very good with are saying. Hey look you know. Let's get ahead of some things down the road. What marquee events Do we have coming up for example. We have our annual eagles autism challenge. Which is a huge run bike Event that raises money for the eagles autism foundation. They've raised over ten million dollars into a couple of years. That's a big event coming up. It looks like it's going to be during a preseason game this summer so we're already having those talks about. What can we do to incorporate the voice experience. Because we haven't really done that in previous iterations and i'll add onto that one too it's You know we as kind of our our our content created team is marketed as eagles entertainment. you know. We have a pretty extensive catalog video and stories and articles image images on It's no tremendous wonderful articles as well throughout the season. We wanna be complementary of all of our had logs as well right so there's certain things at work really well in certain regard certain things that we think that we will be called hundred ancillary content. Where it not only can hype off the main content piece that were looking for but it can also be like a standalone piece in itself right so for example. We hired a brand new coaching staff. This year coach. Who came on from indianapolis you know. He sat down. i interview. that interview was recorded. it was a one on one exclusive Of video east that we launched on oliver forums on the voice stuff we said. Well what can we do to start enhancing that piece because fans wanna know who coach is right so you produced a acuity kind of gets yanni You know back and forth a voice conversation as a content piece Not only standalone piece but it also works in conjunction with this main piece of also putting out there and were everything together. Almost -gistically writes a be realized that there's an opportunity for that to where waste apps through conversation can also lend nicely to a understanding and getting to know somebody for example but at the same time. Hyping up some additional content that reproduced on other channels. And i feel year to really getting good at good at that. So that's kind of like our in our focus for these next year is going to be rush is a really good point. I want to add real quick. I think one of the things fell off for us. Internally was important early on was when we discussed content. It's usually okay. How's it going gonna look in an editorial form. Which is my avenue. Social video now incorporating voice into as well and it's important that on top of mind for high level executives to really buy in it. You don't have that buying. It's not gonna go far. But that increase the coolest thing that about that. Jason even our offers when they're out there in a shoot they'll be thinking about like how do we like. Excel something like this in a voice in martin. So they're out there shooting video but at the same time now they're thinking about. Is there anything that we can capture. Maybe we can use it for voice. You know i'll give you really quick example without one too but You know just miked up our offensive in these benza coordinator.

Jason thirteen devante smith two months Nfl next year Eleven instagram Tammy first touchdown indianapolis three months first pick over ten million dollars Excel one month Eagles both this summer ten goals

"Welcome everybody thank you for tuning in to our talk here. My name is jason fields on the chief. Strategy officer with a company called waste were Sast based voice a component system or voice experience platform. We're known both ways with me today. I've got can make tell in chris. Mcpherson chris hails from at drexel university in philly. He has a background in sports marketing and actually did an internship with the philadelphia eagles In nineteen ninety nine and he came on board full time with them in two thousand and four assists. Probably about as close to a lifer as one can get in this this age of job hopping all the time Fun fact About chris's that. He actually was on air talent with the eagles for a long time which was a part of his role as he also did what he does. Now in terms of content and digital financial and then we also can make patel ten. A is ben with eagles. Since two thousand and thirteen he originally had a trade as a developer He's worked for boeing and lockheed fun fact about him is that it was top secret work so we can't ask any questions or kill us you. Gotta he stuck working in that sector ended up transferring over to aramark Which is the food supply company and was actually recruited not football but for his technology and digital marketing chops eagles. So welcome both of you. Thank you for doing this with us for For the summit indefinitely alright. So we've all known each other for a little over a year now. We just celebrated our when you're aaniversary as business partners And the the moment that got us involved was actually graffeo. Twenty twenty but i know that there was a lot of conversation leading up to that internally so i wonder if can maybe give us a little. Bit of background of how voice became an area of interest for the philadelphia eagles. Yeah definitely we're. We're definitely celebrating our one year anniversary after coming out of our our second draft together brass all around. You know our brand promises to inspire to serve the greatest football community in the world in farrah's on our end as eagles entertainment for us to serve the fan with content. We need to be where the fans are so distribution channels become super important as voice platforms become more ubiquitous in the world. I want to start exploring. We wanted to start explaining playing. That's face sooner than later I use a voice device as a daily driver. When i'm kinda getting coffee and and getting caught up in some of my news and everything like ads so an a couple of people around your position do the same thing so we thought it might be interesting opportunity for us to explore here I think last year to be saw that content consumption patterns changed quite a bit so You know not only from an additional odd demand lift but will we found is our fans want more but they wanted a smaller doses and they want it now So i think you know voice skills. Lend themselves really nicely in playing in this area and that's really where we started thinking about. What our overall strategy could be. He found you. It's interesting about that. The follow up on that time is just how it seems like things are coming full circle where you would think that audio content is so simple but through podcast which is something that we heavily invested in looking at the voice platforms. This isn't something that has really taken off so far down the road that we're behind the eight ball. I think that's why the things as a a big business. A big well known brand is you have to be careful of is because you wanna be able to freely explore new territories. You also don't want to jump in on trends way after the wave as already passed though. I think this was a good area where we could get in still be early on the ground and and have some room to experiment and not feel like we had to deliver something Perfect on day one so day one and being early not being too far behind the curve gives you a lot of latitude to choose where to go. How did you guys arrive at that in early days. I think You know we are sports. Bran were sports organizations. Sports club anybody's ever worked in. The sports industry. Knows that you know. We operate as a small business. Our resources review we are strapped. A little bit in terms of how many people are actually in our organization. Even though i think we re tend to lean the little heavier on our side rightfully so. I think we're doing a lot everywhere but we also want to be mindful. We can't hire alexa amazon alexa developers. We can't google news feed developers and You know i would love to hire them to be honest with you but at the end of the day you know we try to partner with vendors. Who help us be as nimble as possible so that we can bring that vendor versatility and at which allows us to play freely an truly focused on our content strategy versus thinking about. How do we program this. How do we not program. Business overall Thinking about strategy. The one thing that we realized is We didn't want to just do something as As as this kind of luted to is we have podcasts distribution channels every weekend absolutely just put all of our podcasts right on our voice channels and be done with it and we would kind of check off that box i think for us what was important is how do we program nuances voice interactions and so have you where we can ultimately start having conversational content without their so if a fan is asking for x. y. they're able to not only get xyz but also taken down a path of potentially learning more about additional content and things of that sort You know my kids play with the disney app. All the time. And mickey comes on and he'll he'll kind of go and ask some trivia questions that my kids are so engaged. Because they're talking with mickey and they like mickey and i'm every week the contents fresh different right so We wanted the ability to program such content without having the you know having a higher additional engineers to help us have program. Weakened weak out. We'll to the philadelphia eagles voice assistance. Here's some things you can say. Good storm you've been saying play. The latest eagles insider podcast flexibility to program really quickly is really what we're looking for and and and our voice is really what costs you know. We'll talk more about the product. I'm sure but you know. We love that flexibility. Beloved nimble nests for rebel. To do what we wanna do week over week. We changed certain. Uh strategic points depending on men's losses in our team is performing what they're doing and what they're not doing all the different nuances the program very easily and really best the solution. We're looking for borough review to celebrate the launch of a church james birth boys and bad blood for the by novacare readable. Let's see how whoa you know the eagles cowboys level one time. I think he's done a lot of good things there. I think initially it was what small wins. Can we get because we don't have the expansive staff that we can just add on people who are important because we've been able to say well. We have their support staff their their knowledge of best practices. You guys voiced by disney already invested in the space so we can lean on that expertise. Great comparison i would say. Is you know early on in the social media phase. You would say all right if i have a piece of content. I'm just going to drop out on every single platform. I don't care if it's facebook twitter. It's youtube if i think a piece of video content i'm just gonna put it everywhere well over time the platforms have been smart to make it so that you can't do that and the uterus on each platform isn't that way and it.

"Chris. The first regression. That i'm gonna point to here is losing carson wentz and i know that a lot of people might be hearing me make that statement in might already be saying to themselves that's not a regression carson. Wentz was terrible at the end of his time with the eagles. And there's a reason why he's on the colts now and he's he's probably better off there but the reason why i'm saying that this is a regression is because we're not entirely sure that jalen hurts is a step forward if this is not at least a lateral move which lateral move is not going to be good if he plays the same way that carson wentz did last year this will be a step back but if jalen hurts does not look as good as people are hoping for and are expecting. It could be very problematic for this eagles team and that has to be the big overlapping headline question. Mark for this eagles roster in twenty twenty one is that is jalen hurts the guy for the future or is he a placeholder that they will eventually replace in the next draft cycle guy. I think that really is the question with this offense and let me let me. Just say this. I like jalen hurts. I liked watching him in college. I liked watching him at alabama. I liked watching him at oklahoma. I have a lot of respect for him. I think he is a good leader. I think he's a good teammate. And i think he's a guy who can be a winner. He certainly not the prototypical. Nfl quarterback he is able to make his skill set work for him now. Will he be able to take steps in the upcoming season. I don't know you know. We didn't see a whole lot of him last year. For most of the year he was a guy brought on in some kind of funky to quarterback packages occasionally as a option quarterback occasionally even running screens out on passes from carson wentz. But then at the end of the year we did get to see him onfield end. He was good enough for the eagles to be in games and to threaten winds but he also really needs to take some significant steps forward in just in terms of efficiency you know he did some impressive things with just his combined running in passing but to win in the nfl. You really need to be able to throw as a quarterback and he only completed fifty two percent of his passes. He threw six touchdowns in four games. Which is earned four starts rather which is a nice star but he also threw four sections and his yards per attempt and adjusted. Net yards per attempt were pretty lackluster. And he had a relatively high percentage lulu over eight percent so while he did some things that are that could bode well for the eagles with the right development. He also showed some things that suits He is at best a lateral move. He's not going to be that kind of winner that he was at alabama oklahoma. He certainly isn't the same kind of prospect that to attack by low is or baker. Mayfield or cuyler. Murray were so it's very possible. The eagles could be looking for another new quarterback next year. Right the mixed bag of results from jalen hurts is what makes this so hard to really predict what he's going to be because you see a lot of good things he makes them good throws he makes some good plays with his legs. Goes from being as you said a sub package guy into the defacto starter and does okay really when he was stepping in the completion percentage is definitely concern and a lot of what i saw from. Jalen hurts is a guy that when things break down. Everyone wants to talk about yeah. He's a great athlete. But i think when the ability to pick up yards with his legs is not there and available. I see guy that doesn't have a plan and often times of inconsistencies with his accuracy. That's a problem if you're a quarterback in the nfl you need to be accurate. I know that so simple to say but you have to have consistency with ball placement. No matter how good devante smith ends up becoming you're not going to produce results if you can't get him the football and the reason why he devante smith was able to do well with mac jones was because they made things really simple for the both of them. They got him the football as easily as possible with screens and various places like that quick routes. Maybe that's the avenue for making this offense work in twenty twenty one but of course that leads into the next point here as a potential regression. I know doug. Peterson was not exactly the pinnacle of head coaching towards his end. He was struggling towards the end. But he's still a good head coach guy. That won a super bowl with nick. Foles as the starting quarterback that is a sign of being a good coach and this is very similar to moving from carson winston. Jalen hurts that being the question of. Is it a lateral move. Moving from doug peterson to nick serianni. Is that a lateral move. We won't know until some results have been produced but many people are really questioning of serianni was the best available candidate for this eagles team and his primary. I think issue that he is going to deal with this. Season is getting jalen hurts to produce results in his second year in nfl if he stays stagnant or maybe even takes a step back. Then you will not only are questioning the aptitude of nick serianni as a head coach. Who's supposed to be able to influence quarterbacks as an of mine a guy but then it also puts a bigger question. Mark on jalen hurts can be the guy if he can't outdo poor coaching. So i syrian leads into that next big possible regression for this team. Yeah siri is he is. He could be a good move for them at head coach..

"A little bit more an answerable question of knowing what he is going to be can he play coherently and consistently with jalen hurts remains to be seen the other addition or improvement rather chris is that of adding ryan kerrigan. Now if this was five years ago. I think i'd be saying wow. This is a fantastic addition. He's a great edge rusher dangerous player and we talked about it a little bit when he signed with the eagles but when you look at their whole free agency. This is the only really recognizable name that stands out and a team that lost some defensive line players like me jackson a team that is regressing and getting older on the defensive side of the football. I think anybody like ryan kerrigan is plus just. Because he's a veteran guy he's consistent. He'll cause some problems but he's not the same player that used to be. Yeah no this is the thing we talked about with. Nick faldo is that ryan kerrigan has pretty much long been. His whole career has been a giant killer and it should give the giants at least a little bit of a pause to see him staying in the nfc east end really going to a team that the giants have struggled against for pretty much all the last decade and that is note worthy like you said he isn't the same player he was Even three certainly five years ago. He is losing a step. He isn't an every down edge rusher anymore but he is a guy who can help their defense if they can get into a second or third and long situations just obvious pass rushing situations. You know he can still beat ofensive tackles. He can still apply pressure to the quarterback and get the quarterback on the ground. He has been you really remarkably consistent being able to do that throughout his career even as he's lost step yeah even though he has lost a step a guy like that a guy like ryan kerrigan who has been so disruptive for so long is only going to drop off so much. Never last thing chris. That is a little bit more figurative. I guess is that this. This team improved in the sense that they're probably going to be more healthy than they were last year. There were a ton of injuries along their offense of line inconsistencies with guys being available to play to a point where it was a. Who's who on the offensive line jordan. May lada was a nice surprise but separate from that. They had to plug in and play a ton of random players along their offense their defensive injuries. All of that stuff comes into play which really led to a disastrous season in twenty twenty because of all those injuries. It looked like they were going to win the nfc east to had they not dealt with some of these issues that they were dealing with in the second half but now coming into twenty twenty one. They should be more healthy across the board. And i think the big thing for me here is the health of the offense of line. These if you have lane. Johnson you have brandon brooks. You have a decent kelsey. Maybe you plug in land and dickerson jordan melodic and slot in at that on either tackle spot if you're willing to go with him again. That's a pretty good offensive line. If that's what the role in west. Yeah i i would say that as long as offensive line is stay healthy. It should be good enough for them to at least be competitive. That offensive line group shouldn't hold them back. it doesn't really have any liabilities on it. As long as they're healthy now as we saw last year that that is kind of easier said than done and really the eagles last year kind of reminded me of the giants kind of in the middle or towards the end of. Tom coughlin's tenure when they were the reigning injury dynasty and you never knew exactly which position group was getting a wiped out by injury. But it at some point. You just knew you're going to find out what the bottom of at least one physician groups depth chart looked like at. It wasn't going to be pretty so if the eagles can stay healthy. That could be the biggest thing for them this year. Where just having their intended starters on the field they showed they could be competitive in the nfc east with their starting roster the trick the trick really could be just keeping those guys on the field for seventeen games yet. Keeping all those guys healthy and availabil- is going to be so crucial for any success on this team and the other thing too that i completely glazed over andre dillard who. They drafted very highly a couple of years. Ago was the biggest injury that they dealt with early on. Who probably going to be playing left tackle for them at the start of the season so they actually have some pretty good depth if they're fully healthy with their oh line. It's just again a matter of if all of these older guys are available to play because you we're looking at jalen hurts who is able to throw off structure a little bit better than some other guys in the nfl. But you don't really want a second year quarterback running for his life. We saw what happened with daniel jones. The eagles do not want that to be What's happening jalen hurts in this twenty twenty one season. Their success is going to be really dependent on the health of that offensive line that just seemingly every single year has been very very healthy. Coming up we're gonna talk about their off-season regressions and you could imagine. There were some pretty big steps down for the eagles team before we get to that. Though we're just gonna take a short commercial break.

Philadelphia Eagles sign linebacker Eric Wilson

"Eagles have made some news over the last couple of days that we should pass along. The birds have made a couple of free agent signings Over the last couple of days and will run those down for you here. You can tell. It's a totally new eagles regime by the way when they go out and prioritize adding a linebacker in free agency although the eljay fort fiasco tells us not to count our chickens before they're hatched. The eagles signed former vikings linebacker. Eric wilson to a one year deal this week worth up to three and a quarter million dollars. There is a connection to the eagles. Here with wilson a linebackers coach. Nick rally spent time as wilson's assistant position coach for the last three years in minnesota. So you know so much time when you're adding free agents who your trading for players. There's always some kind of coaching connection especially here with the eagles over the last few years and that continues to be the case. Now wilson turns just twenty years old in september so he's a younger player and became a full time starter for the vikings last year. How do you really solid season for them to record it. One hundred twenty two tackles eight passes defended three interceptions in one forced fumble clearly. He's the number one linebacker on the roster. Right now. he'll be atop the depth chart he'll be the guy starting at middle linebacker unless something totally unforeseen happens. And i'm still kind of trying to figure out how the eagles got their hands on them at this stage in the off season for it for as little as they did and considering the salary cap situation that they're in and we know that this is not a position. The eagles have prioritized a whole lot. In recent off seasons they did again. Like i mentioned a sign eljay for contract very early in the offseason. Two years ago when it seemed like their third free agent off the board and they gave him a lot of guaranteed money. And then jim schwartz never played them and they cut him in midseason in the baltimore. Ravens picked him up in a hurry and he played great for them in the second half of the two thousand nine hundred and season to the point where they signed him to a contract extension before the season was out and eljay ford would have been a very big help in the eagles on the eagles. Defense these last couple of years and so we're kind of. I don't think this is going to go that way Eric wilson has has has a little bit more to his resume than eljay ford did when the eagles picked him up

Go to the eagles this matter. We're just glossing way where we're just going to gloss over geelong we'll come back to that start with the eagles does. Does this matter. Jordan howard and boston scott back and again. The boss scott was not a surprise. They tendered leave so they did. We knew he was coming back. But now jordan howard joining the fold does this matter for miles sanders. Obviously scott matters more. I wonder if he'll become their version. Of nahim hines. And kinda sorta was already and jordan. Our coming back i. I'm not sure why. I don't know what they saw. In jordan howard. When he was in miami that makes them want to put him on the roster that maybe the roster spot is in guaranteed that would probably be the case We'll see it's not gonna make me any more nervous to draft miles sanders still think sanders worth a top thirty pack

"Lincoln riley who's coach oklahoma. Who also coached jalen hurts. He was on our show last week. And he said this about jalen hurts now. Taking over in philly donald. He's really really excited for the album. It's not that he would ever say that. I mean he's pretty low key guy. But i know he's putting in a tunnel or behind the scenes and you know he's a guy that believes he's ready for this. I mean no question about it. I mean he. He believes that this is a tremendous opportunity. And nobody's gonna work the kid. That's that's not gonna happen when you're when you're the quarterback there's a there's a difference between kind of hoping you're going to be the guy and then knowing and feeling you're the guy and the cat had confidence that brings along to make can be a game changer. San Francisco 49ers, Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Eagles Make NFL Draft Trades

"Not in season. But March has been mad for the league, especially this week here, Schefty with what all went down. What happened here is that the 40 Niners have been trying to move up in the draft into the top five, frankly, for the last few weeks now, and they were able to cold together a deal with the Miami Dolphins at the same time that the Dolphins were going together a separate deal. With the Philadelphia Eagles that enabled the 40 Niners toe move up the third overall position to take a quarterback. And that means in all probability that we're gonna have quarterbacks go with the first three picks in this draft. We would think Trevor Laurence goes one Zack Wilson to and then the 40. Niners would have their choice. Assuming they stand three for the third quarterback in this draft. I would not dismiss Mack Jones in that conversation. Like Trey, Lance. They like Justin Fields. They're going to continue to do more and more work here in the weeks leading up to the draft, but they wanted to get into this slot now. So that they could have their choice at three. Knowing that they would get one of these quarterbacks a lot of people then wonder what happens to Jimmy Garoppolo. Sure, they're gonna be trading him right? Not so fast, because they believe that this is a Super Bowl caliber roster, and they're not ready to hand that roster toe a young rookie quarterback who's unproven just yet. So in their minds today, Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be a quarterback and opening day, and that's not a leverage play. That's not them trying to bait another team into giving up more compensation for Jimmy Garoppolo. Their true honest plan today is to have Jimmy Garoppolo as the starting quarterback. Have the first round draft pick that they take a quarterback learn for a year and then eventually it will be his job in San Francisco going forward. We have

Philadelphia Eagles sign QB Joe Flacco to baffling contract

"All these teams that i feel like or at least maybe all of them but some of them have gotten better and you're competing against all those teams to win the super bowl and the eagles are finding joe. Flacco like you have to compare what the eagles are doing to other teams in the league. I don't see how they're progressing at all. And i think other teams are getting better or at least you know if they're really good they're staying the same. Just don't get it jimmy. I ending every point with. I don't get it better matt on that. All well said all right point number seven years the play. They're going to tank lose a lot of games anyway. So that's good. It's it's bad because if go black the why would you pay him. Three point five million. Then if if that's the idea that he's gonna lose a lot of games to play. Then why would you. Why would you pay him anything like why would you even bring them in. So i don't get that just from that logical standpoint to begin with and the deal only gets worse if he plays probably because i'm guessing some of those incentives not necessarily the seven point five. But i'm going to guess like one point five. I'm going to say it's at least like five billion if he plays you know a reasonable amount of time then like you're watching this guy play. The team sucks presumably. And like it's only like the future of the team is only getting worse. I mean you might be losing games and that's good for a job pick but like you're losing money losing cap space that could be rolled over the next year. You're wasting your lighting it on fire to watch joe flacco play. Who isn't even like an entertaining player. Right it's not like they signed a guy who is bad but like he can kind of do some things and leg. It's of fun bad. It's just like a very boring aesthetically unpleasing. What's hey great. Fit for the eagles offense because they know all about that or at least they have in recent seasons. But it's just crazy to me again. Say it for the bill times to

"We even get started on joe flacco. I don't mean to take a dump. All over. Joe flacco good career. You want super bowl. Mvp and ninety eight seventy seven career records. Who's not some like garbage. You know scrub quarterback was never good and he doesn't deserve to be mocked and good for him for getting the deal that he got personally. I think he is agent. Did a good job. i guess trying to There's reportedly that the forty niners were also involved. And maybe that's why he got what he got with the eagles which i mean. The eagles shouldn't have cared. If there's other teams involved should have just passed the number. I but anyway it's been a long way. It's been a long way since. Joe flacco was even remotely close to being a desirable quarterback last six years and twenty six and thirty seven record a combined. Six point four yards per attempt over that six years fan six point four yards per attempt over six year span is not good last two years. Where the only two years he spent away from baltimore signed a one year deal in denver. You went to and four. They're moved onto the jets. Last season went owen for completion percentage in front of me with his fifty five percent or something like that point to and he had a qb rating. I think of like eighty point. Two eighty eight eighty twenty and then. I didn't have this but in your post on him. You had noted and grain of salt here but of course you had noted that Pro football focus had him as the second worst rated quarterback in the nfl last year.

"Oh so true. And I think it's a good message for everybody to remember is that it always comes down to you as a person like it's not about about school big small opportunity no opportunity. It's about you it's about the drive that you put into it. You're going to get a great internship and experience whether you go to a small school or a big school if you put the F.. Yes internships are are super important. As I'm sure you guys talk about all the time on this podcast but also I think to the point of your your last question what I do it differently Being unwilling Jesuit has made me unique candidate for jobs On their philosophy of education and the judge has always been a well rounded individuals also took a lot of different classes. Outside of my major and our Education philosophy was always to serve others so I have kind of based my leadership philosophy on during others which makes me different? I think than than another candidate which may be a better fit. You know somebody who went to a giant school and had a ton up different opportunities. You know they made it makes it better in a different role that I wouldn't cut it so it's just like you said before making yourself stand out in a different way. I love this okay. Let's leaning into into this a little bit more one of the things. I hear all the time when I talked to people on this podcast people that are in charge of hiring people that are at sea level people that are mid mid managers. Whatever it is you ask them the question say so what do you look for? If you're if you have three hundred people applying for a job. How do you find the right people? And they'll always list off these soft skills work ethic passion Blah Blah Blah and. I'm always like well. How do you find that in a resume and cover letter and we keep going round and round in certain ways but you you hit on a keyword there talking about leadership and what you were able to learn wheeling Jesuit? How has that kind of transcribed itself into your career that ability to feel like you're a leader and and how have you been able to sell yourself in that way so I think it took me a very long time to find my leadership philosophy if you will Maybe I always kind of knew it was hard to formalize it and that really came I actually got my master's from Gonzaga. Different Jesuit school I I took a class on servant leadership and that kind of clicked for me and then working with the students that Ohio state and thinking about you know why am I. Why am I doing what I'm doing? Who is it for? What's my motivation? And I can't always the answer was always the people working for me to make them better better so that our products better so that I can go and say we have the best in the big ten It's the student athletes performing giving them a good product. Their parents at home So really it always came back to serving and then a quick for me like I learned that it willing Jesuit So I think being able to articulate articulate. You know the way you are as a leader is super important to employers as well because it's something that people don't typically sit and think about before they ah go into an interview it's so true and what a great perspective to think that way. I know that when I was first graduating. I didn't think that big so Kudos to you. For Looking at trying to analyze digest what is leadership mean. And how can I exemplify this and kind of tracking it all back together. That's impressive your major. Let's get into you. A little deeper are your major wasn't communications same May and early on in your career. You're in media relations sports information before getting into the video production world when and how did would you kind of figure out okay. This is my lane. This is where I want to push further in my career. Well I don't know about you but I went to college thinking I was going to be the on air. I think communications and I'M GONNA be the next Tamraz next Erin Andrews You L. Like yeah I'm really horrible on Camera Learned very fast not to be on camera. That's for sure But yeah I I really liked like I said when I was involved in the athletic department I really liked the stats and the game. Note So I wanted to kind kind of dive more into the the the nerdy fight of it After I realized I didn't want to be on camera. And I got an internship with the wheeling Naylor's there in wheeling ailing and did some work there and then with the pirates and their media relations department. I I really loved the work. I was doing And I just kept saying involved solved athletic department. I was streaming Basketball Volleyball What else did we do any any indoor sport really we would stream dream for our fans and my professor Don Watson? He taught a bunch of classes and volunteered on the weekends to do that. That's streaming so when I left and took a job at a another small school provide co- college in North Carolina I kept in touch with him. Because because you don't make a lot of money in sports when you first get out sorry to soak him listen her thinking they're gonNA. Yeah so I. It was a very very entry level position so I knew that I wouldn't be there long. It was just the nature of it so I told him if anything opened up. And what do you know he called me and had a job opening back at my alma mater so I I took it because it just seemed like a natural next DAB. I felt comfortable there already and I guess during those three years I really realized that my skills were more Video Oh then then the writing or PR media relations side so it was a fun jury. I I can't take credit for figuring it out myself or give anyone any advice rather than other than just you know dealing doing what you're interested in and having a lot of networking contact that can give you opportunities and diverse field. The video thing kind of just happened happened to me and I fell in love with it. That's the thing is being. That's the the exact power of internships and entry level jobs and staying open minded to them all and that you're gonna get exposed to different things and figure out where you fit so it's really cool okay. So for six years you were the big ten networks production manager based in Ohio state as we kinda referenced earlier their tone of events each year. What was the thrust of your role while? You're a big ten network. So yeah we had a lot of events I don't even remember the exact numbers but we had thirty six sports that We've covered in in some way and our department and I was specifically in charge of the big ten network Bt and plus streaming so oh we had Students who ran all of that so I hired the students and train them organized He's is known brand point of contact for every every sport we would be streaming and I really grew in that role And that I became a leader. It's like we talked about earlier and it opened my eyes to like a lot of different jobs in sports just being at Ohio state. How you know the? There's a job for everybody buddy in the athletic department there there's lawyers there's Athletic trainer whose play just I had exposure to a lot of different different things. There it really I was Yeah managing managing the TV production side of things for the Athletic Department. So you mentioned you mentioned that you managed a lot of students and I have to imagine that being a huge challenge because we all know students no offense to anybody listening but students aren't always the most responsible you know. I'm sure that we're more than a a few occasions. Where somebody maybe he didn't show up or any of those kind of things you know when you're depending on them was kind of the biggest thing though as you that you learned about not only hiring and identifying to find people who were serious and had attention to detail and all that but then also managing them through a process as robust television production? There's a lot of nuance. There's a lot of intricacies Kasese. That's not an easy thing to get people from zero to one hundred ready to produce a broadcast. Yeah I definitely learned patience during my time there and I love every single student. That came through During my time there but they will admit that they also taught me. Patience I I really think the biggest thing was like letting them go. And Trust that your process that you laid in place will survive survive even if they mess up. Let them make their mistakes No one to speak up and step in to make sure they don't make a mistake but let them make that the steak and in a good way so that they learn from it I think in hiring those students we had a lot of that. Didn't that didn't work out. And that that was the one benefit of being able to hire a lot and just see who kind of who kind of worked out And who maybe it doesn't stay very long So in looking at those candidates like I said the cover letter insurance and personality and then you talk to some students that you just you just got it. They knew what working in sports says about say weren't showing up just because they were a fan and wanted to go to a football game for free. They understood you know what we're trying to do for our fans and for the student athlete and You know the maturity. It was always something we would look for as well. Well Yeah for sure. That's hard thing to measure but you figure out pretty quickly at imagine last year you join the Philadelphia Eagles as director of production. How would you character? Is the differences between working for a pro sports team and a college athletic program. Is there a great difference. Yeah there's a lot less of that is I as I mentioned You know but it's there's a lot less events but with the NFL in the tent. Pole events like the draft after and OTA's. I'm training camp. There's the stakes are higher. So while I might not have twelve events this weekend for for Softball Baseball Cross. During the spring I may have the draft and the shows were going to put on the content. We're GONNA bring the stakes are a lot hire. Our fans are you know a lot. More passionate I sniff shouldn't say that they're not more passionate than Ohio state fans. They are looking to us for different things In Ohio State your number one viewer is always the potential recruit or student athlete. I always have that in the forefront of my mind ochre and everything we did because that's really what keeps. That's the lifeline for your program is getting the best curtain for all of those thirty six sports to my audience was recruits and then the current student athletes families. And then it would be our fanned and In the pros your fans are your audience. And that's whom you're trying to appeal to so I think it's really a different completely different audience dance and it's also different. A different tastes where colleges more constant you know August through Oriole May and NFL is very big events that you want to be very diligent and thorough in covering. How long did it take? So you've been with the Eagles for about a year now. How long did it take you to really understand the fan base? And what makes them tick and what they're most interested in or really diagnosed. How best to speak feet to them? Yeah I turned on. I was still living in Columbus and I turned on the tune in or something and listen to some philly. Talk Radio.

"You're paying two dollars eighty five cents more every Saturday or Sunday. I think she knows when the season's over because Facebook will tell her when the season is she she says, she can always tell that the eagles have lost and lost big by like opening up Facebook and just seeing like a stream of complaints from her friends, which is pretty nice. There's a there's a dude who one way that you could tell how the eagles are doing. Without actually seeing the games is there's a dude who has been selling bootleg t shirts at a corner of downtown Philadelphia for. As long as I can remember, I'm not I'm not quite sure he's staked out this spot. He usually sells shirts that say the eagles are playing like shit pass me another beer, but for the pa- and he was selling that midway through this season. But for most of the past two years, he has been selling just absurd underdog and whatever else merchandise. I once bought a shirt of him of pope Francis, wearing an eagle shares e I think of the places of the places I've lived Philadelphia's probably the town where you can most register like how the team is doing just walking around like the eagles are doing. Well, yet, you're seeing way more guys out with the bizarre proliferation of like German shepherds wearing eagles Jersey's playing poker to table. You know, there's a lot of, you know, underdogs bite. You know, big dogs hunt. Just all over the place. There's less energy in the streets. Fewer German shepherds playing poker when they're not doing. Well. And that's when you really see like more air. Airbrush? Ben Simmons gear like like like, it's it's very, you know, the street scene is sensitive to to the on. You know, the day-to-day ongo every city has its own seasons. And it's nice to that yours is going to be that you can tell like when when winter has finally arrived when people wearing like the big green, apex. One pullovers with like eagles in the weird fought? Those guys are just they transition back to dressing. Normally, I will say in the whatever three tenths of a second. When the ball hit the upright before it hit the say where it was going to go in obviously. Because like it's because they'd hit it on the on the inside. So I thought oh, this is this is going to go in this was over. And then it it don't off the crossbar, and then I thought it was going to go in again. And it's pretty amazing that they got a joint to it's actually there's a the electric company in Philadelphia has a big electric sign at the top of its building. And they've run an animation of the the field goal hitting. Twice with joint. Everyone on the Schuylkill expressway can can re relive the play on screen driving by damn in. What a fucking weird town you live in Tim's adopted it as own this is all you've ever known is this perversity, you couldn't have been normal. If you want it to be I like to think, I'm normal, right? Yeah. Definitely going to say Philadelphia Eagles and just see how normal. It sounds and let our listeners judge it. Well, I mean now that you've made me think about it like this. I yeah. Yeah. But I mean, so I could say like fluffy eagles Philadelphia Eagles. I mean, it's funny. If if I don't say eagles eagles like really, that's like a Philly thing. If you you say eagles eagles like no one says it normal a class eagles eagles. Yeah. No, no, one says that there's either like really pronounced the or you don't pronounce it at all..

"Favorite movie. I think as far as anyone knows the only movie he's ever seen is the movie where Brittany spears and her friends drive across the country with Anson Maltroye, crossroads. Yeah. Thank you cross rice. Well, I can tell you who has Nick Sabin. And so most of the metaphors when you go through and unpack a lot of his quotes almost all of them are crossroads references. It's really the only. -tural product he's ever consume that and I famously little Debbie stack cakes. Where do you think? Break we come back. I'm going to not explain any of the things. I just said we're gonna talk about the NFL playoffs. All right. We're back. We're back. So we're gonna talk about the NFL playoffs. Dan. How excited were you? When you're Philadelphia Eagles managed to triumph. I was I was pretty excited. My fiancee who does not really follow sports was also in the room and yelled what I always yelled to her. When the eagles advanced that we in the playoffs which had never happened in our relationship until last year is that we get another week of five percent off at the supermarket for wearing heels on game day, which is really investor in the. Yes, saving, you know, that two bucks is is is really going to be a good. She notices when this season's over is suddenly.

"Lineup for four three feel go to perhaps beat the Philadelphia Eagles, and he kicked it through. He made it, but they ice them. They called the time out and he went back out there. And I said, here's your chance, man. If you make this kick you get glory for a week or two. But if you miss it might wind up will bring any windshield three windshield, no pressure, kiddo. And then that do kicked it and somebody tipped it. And then it hit the post, and then it hit the crossbar, and then he came back on the wrong side wrong side, if you wanted to, you know, count for three points, and man killing that do feel gave I felt so bad for him jinxed aging, man, I spell it out with world was he knew it World War. I say the time out didn't drink. Some are you gonna put it on me? This affair point for that. Someone did tweet out a stat. That was like, oh, the ice the kicker does not work as random. I don't think there's anything to strongly indicate that is the thing you kinda rolled on the dice on it. You know, like, it's it's I understand why people do it because I mean, I can't imagine how would be under that circumstance man that living booted said that would be in that place. Like you stand out there all by yourself. That's one thing. I think is lost about kicking is like I talked to all different sports is the thing. That's so fascinating about golfing. Those cats out there by themselves. Like, we give you credit every credit, but we allow golfers to choke in a different way because they're all going to choke because there's nowhere to lean. There's nobody else to cover the slack, right? Like it happens to everybody, and it's going to be there tennis is the same way place kicking is one of the is like the only thing in football that truly stands in that place where you are. They're basically by yourself, and you got to make this happen, man. That's a rough go as real rough. Go f k nobody else on the team. Do your job. They be judging you AB mad at you. Because be doing. Pushups run Oklahoma drills while you just like doing yoga and trying to maintain your pliability. There's a lot haters in the house, and you wind up being on the business end of it as you to kick her and that, you know, but the regular people be born them because they just bullies. You know, Anna top of it. Those dudes are probably the do least built for the circumstances that they're put in on the team. Well, I mean to be fair they're not built for any of that stuff is the kicking tackling. They're not yet. They're not physically built for that. But I mean, like, mentally, you You know, know what I mean? Have very specialized skill and able to do it like kicking football got to be harder than it looks because they can't find there's not enough good kickers to fill out league. And on top of it. I've talked about this before we hold college Keith to the same standard. We hold professional kickers to your everything about that through. We we expect the ideas you only have one job therefore you have to do your job..

"First and goal. Third down and nine the situation where you don't have to worry about that right now. Bears have to start working their time outs here as well. Very interesting on both sides of the ball. Yeah. For the eagles. Either way right here. I mean, they're gonna score dot spor. Put the bears have to preserve coming back. The other way. Touchdown. Speech. Philadelphia Eagles have taken the lead in the second down and ten. And that puts them in field goal range. We'll take a timeout. Is such a good throw. It is such a good throw. He's running the corner route he has a quarter underneath them. And if piscotty doesn't throw this is a fact shoulder it's likely going to get picked. And that was put nominal is good as the one he had in the first half. Here comes parking. Man old man. Oh, man. Cagy would look about now. Three. Still five seconds. Get back. Again. Kantha cross-border. Bottom line. It doesn't go through upright. It looks like it bounced off the crossbar as well. Oh my goodness.
