"<hes> for a number of years so that was a tough one obviously south carolina. I had to pick north north carolina people on game day. Kinda laughed at me. <hes> i have a lot of respect for mac but also realize that even though he's playing a young quarterback and sam how was a lot of skill around him and i knew that mac would have defense playing with with some edge and some energy kind of new found use and and and just just different attitude <hes> seemed to be permeating out of out of chapel hill and churn up they were able to go out and win that game that one it doesn't feel as bad as tennessee missouri losses but it was not a top to bottom. It was not a not what the s._e._c. probably the conference imagined agent <hes> when i get ready for week one herbie to add to your point with tennessee what stood out is how they lost. They didn't lose on a last second field goal. They lost to a georgia estate team that just honestly punched them in the face and the third and fourth quarter and it looked like tennessee defense said we're not ready for this. We don't want anything to do with this and that's to me he's stunning when you have jeremy pruitt this fan base and that how they they shifted and they got the coach that they wanted through that alabama pipeline and now they have the deal with figuring things out phil fulmer figure things out and the one thing that that that also stands out when you when you bring up the history it's been two decades you know in the late nineties ladies that the peyton manning's the tee martin's and stuff when you look at where they were dominant and you look at where they were surrounded in in the country in the area where they're at twenty years ago alabama wasn't alabama dominating and georgia was still getting some players but they're not like what they are doing. Now and clemson is is on a different level so when you look at tennessee twenty years ago they could dominate an area when it comes to recruiting and they can't because they're surrounded by programs now that that not just dominate their area dominate the country so for me that long term for tennessee this game is a devastating situation asian but long term. It's like all right. Can we look at down the road in year two jeremy. Where are the bright lines. Where are the moments where you're like okay but we we've got somebody coming up in in that pipeline with our recruiting class and i don't know if tennessee does well. I think if you're just looking at right now you know they lost the the georgia state by the way sean elliott and you know all about him. Story appalachian state guy who came up as an old line coach and his way through the s._e._c. was south. Carolina spent a lotta time south carolina's <hes> at one time of steve spurrier's line coach and and becomes head coach towards the state on either team ready. You made <music> out standing point about how they won the game. I mean this was they were churning out drives of ten plays nine plays. Just it was not a oh. Oh my gosh. The ball bounced off his shoulder pad up into the air off the defender. I caught it and we won the game. It was no no no no. We're gonna come right at you. We're gonna run the ball right at gene challenger challenge of defense heart and see if you can respond to it and it just seemed to get more and more confident and tennessee seemed to be questioning things more and more of the game liam went on and <hes> georgia state deserves all the credit so we don't want to take anything away from what they achieved but the bigger story i think is is tennessee. Where do they go from here to get b._y._u.'s why us nine easy opponent at home and you have tennessee chattanooga then they go to the swamp georgia mississippi state then they go to tuscaloosa home again south doc carolina u._a._b. Kentucky at missouri vandy. I mean i think for them. It's one week at a time but you could you could very easily say other than chattanooga and u._a._b. And and by the way those on givens based on what we saw last saturday..

"And if it's not, you know, maybe there was one maybe Ernie and Bernier, but that was about we'll see you on that of Asia that question, but. But you know, what? Even if they lose March. They were still great. They were a really good team. What I don't understand is. What is it about the psyche of your fan base that while you're having this great basketball run? You can't accept reality about football. Like like, why not just say, you know, what maybe we're on the come up. But we're not what we once were. But here we are in basketball. Like, why is that hard for you all the process? That's a very good question. I mean, it's hard to argue. I mean, we've been we've been here way from a year away for about fifteen fifteen years down true. And I mean, I I'm enjoying the hell out of helmet basketball season. I think Bruce you want to get jobs, but we're heading back the right direction. But I dunno. I but the task is obviously hard. I mean, the task is aren't leave aside losing the vandy four straight times Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri. Georgia's never been better and Florida is clearly going to be better. So the task is not easy. Yeah. I agree with you. I don't know. You also have it. You'll also have a schedule burden that doesn't get talked about enough, which is that you play album every year, that's a huge schedule bird, a huge one that that no other team in the east has to deal with you are guaranteed to every year have to play a top five team out of your division. Whereas Kentucky has to play Mississippi State, right or whatever like you have to. And I think that's a I think that is a huge impediment for you guys as well. Yeah. I agrees that I mean, it's with fourteen playoff. I mean, you basically can't lose more than a game or so anyway and make it, but you look at the team like Washington, it's built themselves into sort of a west coast powerhouse in maybe five years ago when you looked at you, but you don't but they don't have. But they've been saying they don't have to. They don't have to compete though. Like in Washington when the SEC is at its worse. It still has two or three great teams the Pac twelve at its worst. Nobody's good. I would think about like maybe ten years ago when US was rolling in Oregon was role, and you would never thought that Washington could you know, could turn things into where they're the favorites. And you know know, the problem for the is here the problem for you in the SEC. I appreciate the call. Jeremy is it's not just USC in Oregon. You will always have to deal with Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia and Texas him. They're always going to be six programs, and it's going to be hard to ever think of a time that all six of them are down at the exact same at the exact same time. Let's go to Eric in Tennessee. How are you? Eric. Good. What are you doing Eric? Oh, man. Listen to y'all talking on the ball had jump in on. Well, did we say anything Iraq? Thank you anything. Incorrect. Oh, yeah. Kate never could. So you're saying we can't win. And we're talking about smoking guns. Let's talk about well, let me I've been smoking going. Now, you don't got the two guys that did it on the squad. Now took no t Martin and Phil former together, and that's not still full Phil Fulmer is a nice guy. But he's not coaching anything in t Martin is a nice guy. But but he's coached it like forty three different schools in the last ten years. I mean, no offense. You don't have saving smoking gun Sabin is saving smoking gun. Right. Just like the, bro. He's got a little declined to though, he's savings got a decline..

"They've had a couple of good teams after that. But nothing really significant. Let's assume I like the the Tennessee fans because I said wouldn't win one in my lifetime say sorry to hear you're going to be passing away in the next two years. That was very nice. But let's just say our to live forty more us, Paul. Let's say you're entire one year SEC network salary. Make you go to Vegas and bat. Tennessee wins the title in forty years or loses. It I make you have to bet whereas your money go. I'm betting the Tennessee. Windsor tight on the next forty years. And that's very nice 'cause you don't want vol nation reddening you like they do me. But I think by the way, I was going to donate money to Tennessee's communications school. I'm just gonna go ahead and Bennett in Vegas now. Well, that's how I'm getting them back. I'll tell you if my tweet I win all then I'll make the donation. If by Twitter's any indication their compute communication school need to prove. But how will say? They Tennessee has a great fan base in terms of their passionate. And I give them credit for that. But they and again, I put Nebraska with him. I'm not just going after Tennessee, Nebraska fans, go after me this too. They are teams of a bygone era. They are the Indiana basketball of college football at Indiana basketball has done just like, Tennessee. They've turned out coaches and every time they hire the new one. I remember when lane kiffin got. I remember everybody going this handsome young buck. It's taken us to the promised land. Then he gets gone and they hired Dooley. You know, Paul the bloodlines or there when you've got the bloodlines, you're winning a title, and he's gone, and it's Butch Jones. They go. Well, he may have no life in his crazy. But that's what you want football coach Paul, and then they get rid of him. And then it's Jeremy Pruitt yet, none of his coaches have hair. But I'm telling you what she got the saving thing. We're going to win a title. It's the same story. The reality is. They can't hire the kinds of coaches that can win they have to hire Dooley's and and Pruitt's and Butch Jones's because they're not the program. They once work. Okay. Listen. I don't really know how to to skin this cat any more than we have Matt. We'll see in forty years if you're right or not and. And then I'm going to be eighty years old and really proud of myself if I. You know, I want you man, listen, I feel like, you know, we have this unique relationship. So I'm gonna ask you one more time as a friend as a mentor to walk to walk this back, and you she just just state right into the camera to coach Fulmer into coach Pruitt that you were just having some fun. And and you're not being serious. What will you do that for me? Phil Fulmer, I think is actually a wonderful person. I've met him a couple of times when I asked her eight guy, I think you will go ahead and apologize maga-. Did get it off your chest. Phil Fulmer, you're a wonderful person. I should've never let go view when they did back in the day. Bob kesling, and I are still upset about it. But I will. But let me just say you'll have a chance to win a basketball time. It wouldn't shock me. If it happened. You are not winning football title again. I love you. You're a nice man and the big orange while terrible hideous color is still a part of my childhood since I grew up on the border. I wish you the best. But you're not winning football title, again, where those workers originals really good when you were all they were. So listen, I remember my grandfather now used to turn on the every Saturday we turn onto about Kentucky was never on Kentucky stuff. But Tennessee was and we'd watch and we'd root for the other team. And we knew Tennessee was gonna win. 'cause they always did at the end of November. I made the trek to Neilan stadium. I eat at that restaurant and cross the river and we'd go in. And we'd watch Kentucky lose by fifty. I Kennedy football is in my blood. It's like a little parasite that lives in there. But now the parasite doesn't hurt as much because it's not as powerful..

"I think it would just be like guys like coach Steve adagio like they bring this credible energy. But would they be able to survive, you know, thirty minutes in the ring or whatever it takes to get everybody, endurance, right? Yeah. What do you think this is a tax thing? For sure Kyle Hermes taken Dana Hoeger Sohn on seven red bulls could be very dangerous. I have this image of Gary Patterson be like the honky tonk man and hit you over the head with his guitar. I think that is if they allowed that in there. We'll must champ just the is with scary leading. You don't want them letting these hands on it because he has big. Yeah. Pat, FitzGerald, I think would be in there as well. Thank you, Mike. Hey, last one here in in honor of some of the crazy stories that we've seen over the last few days, whether it's with Ohio State or elsewhere, the most preposterous story I've ever covered in college football is. Oh, wow. I would throw in that whole Phil Fulmer not coming to SEC media days because he didn't want to get served with a lawsuit in the state of Alabama thought about and the other one I thought of is either my first or second year of covering college football. I think it was my second nineteen Eighty-eight covered a game between winless Kansas and winless case state and it was late in the season. This wasn't this wasn't Owen one Kansas and no one one K state. And in fact, I think they may have the head neither one of them had one for a while. And I went up to Lawrence and covered that game. And there was a lot of fun. Adam would again. Yeah. I I was thinking about this late recently. It's the Maryland story for me. But I I would and I didn't do a ton of this actual coverage on the story. But I don't know if we're going to see anything more preposterous than Mantar Tayo, just maybe we will. But that was really out there. And yeah, I mean, I I remember big at Michigan state that when they beat them, and it was right after his girlfriend I had passed away and getting emails from the news desk about asking. It's like, okay. If you months later, we all like pretty stupid. Wherever the flashing light is that's where we will go. Oh, it's not real. Oh, okay. Well, sorry about that. You know, who is real Phil Steele. He's going to be joining us here in just a moment. But first, I do want to tell you that every man looks better feels more confident when he puts on a suit Indochino is North America's leading made to measure men's where company they make suits.

"Giving us the expert weather report. And he knows how to answer guys you mentioned technical stuff that I have no idea about, but these guys really know their stuff into helping a lot tonight. And let's go to run in Miami. Ron you're on with Mark. And with Tom. Gentleman, very informative and with those in harm's way. Jesus. I came up with an idea of how many strength delivery. But. Hander with nature. Have a negative consequences. It usually does. You take a retired submarine and you position. Like this case off the coast of Africa, and you can see when the storms coming off of. And you follow the dorm and position in the eye. Center and have. You see the heart. Where they spray the water. I guess fire. But you could. Through a liquid nitrogen? Tube. And you know, down to maybe forty degrees and. For sprayers on a submarine. Would cool the air, and it would also pull the sea surface and probably cover, you know, twenty square miles a day. And the average has between ninety two hundred and seven hundred square miles. So time reached the islands or mainland. You would really cool it down. But I think one of the negative effects would be. You could end up with more. Join adding. Well, so let's we kinda talked about that messing with nature before. But go ahead, Tom. Well, no, I he's he's he's right on it. And it to the extent that you know, I initially we we need to be keeping everybody along the coast in our thoughts and our prayers and also making that same kind of that same kind of meteorological change, we honestly don't know. And I don't know if we wanna be tinkering with the environment. But if we could have enough subs lined up trying to actually chilling the atmosphere. The question is. Yeah. If you if you want to get into the discussion of global warming, that's a completely different issue that could offset anything that we could do here. I'm in mankind. And so we're still grappling with our. We affecting our atmosphere. I lean toward. Yeah. We are. And and so bottom line still is that that we're having a challenge measuring our own atmosphere knowing what we're doing one volcano could change everything. And and and and what it puts up into the atmosphere. So. What I know. I didn't think his idea was at all feasible. But what that's why you're here take explain that. That's not a crazy idea. Well, it's it's in principle. What he's saying? But the scale of it would just have to be enormous. That would be the issue. Yeah. Let's go to another call. And let's go to Jim in is at severe Ville. Because I got a apologize to Allen. He does a great job of phonetically sounding these things that I didn't follow it last time. And he was right. And I was wrong. So how do you pronounce where you are? In severe real, Tennessee. I said that say thank Allen. Yeah. Good. Right. That's good. Hey. I'm a I'm over here and severe will. It is on the other side of the mountains from north and South Carolina. I asked what was only about an hour away from here. Great smoky mountains. I actually I just wanted to put a shout out, you know, to any evacuees out there that are listening. We've got all kinds of things going on this weekend. If you come as an evacuee. And you go to UT in Knoxville. The football game. Phil Fulmer, our former head coach and nails athletic director of the college up there. He's given free tickets out for the football game tomorrow. Okay. That's all right. So he's now urging people I don't know if it's too late to evacuate and go see a free football game. It's not terrible idea. Right. No. They should have some of the speedways some of the NASCAR check the NASCAR records and figure out what speedway's are out in in that particular area. I know that you know, Talladega and a few some some of the other ones they reports.

Play in one of the best football seen was it a second in twenty six it was second, in twenty-six amazing yeah that's the media's. Fault okay got it not my fault he threw that pass, and I think Georgia's, going to be good I think auburn's. The, next sector team withstood on and, you know if you're looking, for a sleeper I think Mississippi. State with Joe Moorhead he was impressive down, there when I was down, in. Atlanta He I think he, inherits a, good roster a good quarterback and. His ideas are gonna work so. If I was kind of picking, that sweeper in the SEC west. It'd probably be Mississippi State what do I. Still like Tennessee so much even though they're in a another transitional period and I haven't been. Able to, take him, seriously real seriously as a as a. Contender since Phil Fulmer because you grew up in the nineties like me and. You know the Tennessee and Michigan are kinda like cosmic fame tradition same stadium same on one in the nineties they. Had rather Peyton Charles Woodson I. Think? Great fight song and but. It. Just, hasn't been there they. Think, they need. Jeremy Pruitt the. Stick I think they, need him to really turn that program around. And be a no nonsense team and they you know I bring, this up all beat Alabama the, last time they did that area and. Foster scored the game winning touchdown that's how long it's been Ha So I think it's all about getting back to beating Florida and getting back to not. Not they don't have to beat Alabama this, year but they can't get embarrassed on SEC on. CBS I, mean that's the key to that program and it's not an easy place to. Coach I think the expectations of Tennessee are much like Michigan berry national championship or. Bust when you gotta realize this is the new age and you gotta go out and get a job. "Next to think this was a deadspin story came out after cam newton was at auburn and they basically had a huge document dump related i think to kirk samson who's the longtime that's idea at auburn and some of the people we know did not look it was not very flattering for them either in their correspondence with kirk sampson i remember thinking i'm gonna say look i was not in the head spin story but i like her champs in a lot i think he's he's one of the best people you know in that field but there are times when you reach out to somebody and there's a there's a lot of pleasantries in it and it's like you know in the wake of of that i think it it can look kind of dubious if the way some of these things can get portrayed when you're just like you know you may be saying hey man how you doing with all this as if you're you know they're dealing with a pr firestorm and then all of a sudden you look like you're an enabler or whatnot i mean that's a little bit of an extreme example but you know i definitely think about who i'm corresponding and and how it is that you know there's a lot of people i know that they just they like to talk on the phone they don't like these text exchange exchanges in their their you know kind of leery of how things can get either taken out of context or whatever so it's a it's an interesting window into an i think because this was tennessee it got it got a ton of attention i will ask ahead this thing though and it got on my time line from stephen godfrey who works for for espy nation it was it was after some of this had got out and he retreated the store or this this tweet from one of the guys from the braves verge blogs so tennessee breaks with practice and releases the contents of curry's techs wonder if they'll do the same when media organizations submit freedom of information requests for phil fulmer tax i'm pretty sure they won't mind.
