"Welcome in to the latest edition of ESPN FC, I'm Dan Thomas joined the studio today by Shakir Hyslop and Stevie Nicker. But it was all about Brighton tonight for me, the performance typified Brighton season, European football, thoroughly deserved. And it's just a great football story. When you think about where they've come from, it's pretty remarkable, really. I mean, even losing the manager and the players that they have this season, you would have thought that they would have struggled. But the way they adapt and deal with things that are thrown at them, it's as though it makes them stronger. And these are the results when you have a pretty much thoughtlessly run club. They'll probably lose a few players next season, but I think if the recruitment stays how it's been in the last few years, they won't be worried at all. They've probably already been planning for it, but no, they've been a joy to watch all season. How open was this game, Stevie? Mental. There was no midfield play. It was basically one team goes forward and if they lose the ball, the other team is right. The plan is get at them as quick as you can. Yeah. So the thing just went back and forward. How it was only 1 -1 is beyond me. Both sides could have had three or four goals. But as a spectacle in a game as to what you'd sit, watch a game. You I don't think there's been a better game to sit and watch all season, quite honestly. That's a bit of a stretch. From the first minute to the last minute of this game. All right. Yeah. Absolutely. One hundred percent. Right. Try and pick up. It was a great game. Great game. Yeah. That has not been as enjoyable. He's just trying to wind you up, Stevie. He's just trying to wind you up. No, sometimes he actually believes what he says. He does. Real Madrid against Liverpool is similar in Champions League. Not from the first minute to the last minute. What's first minute? You were great for 20 minutes. You fell asleep, lost all those goals out. Well, not for 70 minutes. Let's talk about what City should do, Stevie. Now, obviously, they've got one game remaining in the Premier League. That's Brentford on the final day. And then it's the FA Cup and Champions League. Seven starters. I think when you take a look at the starting 11 from City today, you can say seven of them will be guaranteed to start in the FA Cup. How do you handle their fitness, their mentality, their everything over these next few days? Well, the first two things you asked me was the fitness and the mentality. Yeah. It's the hangover, that goes into the transfer window, the negative data, the weaknesses rather than the strengths that will be, I fear the memory that clouds the postseason. I think the defense to the bottle job from Arsenal fans is that wait a minute, we're learning so much from this season. You just wait and wait to see who we are next season on what we've learned from it. And I think also that's where we have to defer our judgment of what's happened. That we've got to see if that defense is accurate. And I think if arsenal do bounce back next year and get even stronger, we can say this was an important lesson learned. This is a young squad that have probably a little slightly thin squad, not quite enough depth. They need a bit more help in the off season than this is how they get to the next place. If they don't do this, if they don't manage to bounce back, if they don't get stronger, if next season is not a strong for them, then I think you've got to revisit it and say, yeah, you know what? It's not clear to me all the Chelsea players were wearing shim pads, David. I mean, we should talk about the one but why I'm just trading around there. Well, probably not as big a blow as it could have been given that Jack Grealish has been preferred in that position for Manchester City for a while. I think there have been signs that Foden was starting to rediscover some of his best form and look, I mean, Guardiola is as much about trying to be unpredictable on the team sheet these days as he is anything else. So I guess it reduces one of his options in the wide areas, but I think the fact that the Grealish had arrests against Ukraine for England, he only came on for the final few minutes. Means he should be fresh for that game. So it doesn't weaken Manchester City, particularly so it's a blow, obviously. And a fully fit and firing Phil Foden is a threat to anybody who's obviously done a lot of damage to Liverpool in the past, but I don't think it will make a brighter chance to win in the game. Not the end of the world. No? Mahrez Grealish has been much better as Jim said. "Are better. German teams are better than us. Okay. Okay. I mean, first of all, I don't like the sarcasm. I don't like the fact that he's putting himself out there as I'm smarter than everybody else sort of thing. And the self deprecating kind of comments because the journalists are doing a job, right? They're asking a question, please answer the question, right? This whole idea, well, I'm going to maybe next time I'll just play with 9 strikers and we'll be up and down and what are we getting from this? Do we give them a pass because if path Guardiola? Because if it were moving or saying these things would be going crazy. It is disrespectful to the profession of the people that are asking a legitimate question. It is a legitimate question to ask, why did you not use? And you give whatever answer you want to give, I suppose so. But it is a legitimate question. Certainly when the other team has made substitutions and they have changed the game. And they've impacted the game. So as a manager, what is the thought process as to why you're not making your substitution? I don't know why that question would generate such a reaction for background. And the sort of attitude that he displayed in answering this question. Luis, you've got your coaching badges. What would your approach be to a question like this? I will be my straight answer. I don't do the changes because today I didn't see that aim was needed. I thought that the players that they were playing, they were doing a great job. I think that the transition of lepsy was just a good that I didn't want to use, I don't know, but for the scales and some other players and that's why I didn't do it. I understand what I say, but I think that sometimes paved the way that I see it that is frustrated, but even though they say that the play is because he's sending the message to the player to play that good job and he's what they had to do and everything. He also is frustrated because he didn't like the way that the team played. And his frustration comes out with that with that answer to the so at the end he's trying to bring that frustration towards the journalist instead told what they play. "Let me get closer. This thing like people all dream of playing at the highest level, playing in the game on TV in the Premier League, but not many people have the chance to celebrate on the edge of the box with no goalkeeper and go. What a rare moment that is. But I think that they also rotation. I personally think Arteta's conservative, not necessarily because he just wants to be conservative. I think there's some managers who prefer having smaller squats. I think if he was desperate to have a bigger squad, I think he'd make more noise about it. And I think they would have backed him potentially a bit more. Because he doesn't necessarily need to be like top top caliber players coming in. If you just want bodies that could get bodies, you could have people to back up. Like he could literally bring someone and say, you are a backup. Similar in the way to how we feel about georginio, you could say. Yeah. But he's not doing that, so I think to manage a smaller group is something he's interested in. I think obviously they've been pretty healthy overall as well this season, but that's been very significant. As you mentioned before, georginio is a good player. But this arsenal side feels better to me with parto. It feels like it feels like a big miss for me. So whereas you can manage all the positions. It seems like for that one. It doesn't necessarily change the identity because it's still a win inside. But part is like being one of the best players in the Premier League this whole season. I think he breaks down the opposition to tags more than georginio as well, maybe as mobile. Exactly. I don't know if you saw there was a fascinating answer from Pep Guardiola in the press conference before the forest game.
