"Racial Etiquette" and the Fall of Civilization With Heather Mac Donald

"On something you mentioned here, which I think is really smart. Angela codovilla to his great credit, really I think line laid this out in political terms better than almost anybody else back in 2010, 2011. He wrote the book, the ruling class. And he talked about how there's a country class in a ruling class, and this is not going to end well. And so Heather, can you at least give your best hypothesis or your best explanation as to the psychology that is driving the self hatred of our elites? What is their psychological profile? What is their why? I get asked this question all the time. And I can't answer it well. I know. And we're always asked, do they really believe it? All the time. You know, and in a sense, it doesn't matter whether they believe it or not, because what matters is their public pronouncements and the policies that follow on those pronouncements. But I understand the instinct to want to know what's going on in their head because we look around the world and we see some obvious truths that there's males in that there are females that there's criminals and that there's victims. There's innocence and there's guilt. And they don't see that. And so one does wonder are these human beings? What do we have in common? But I think what drives this Charlie overwhelmingly is the issue of race in the United States and the fact that we still have these very large racial disparities when it comes to academic achievement, representation and meritocratic institutions, that's under representing a blacks. And then on the other hand, in the prison population, you have the over representation of blacks. And this country understandably has a lot of guilt about that and there's a lot of discomfort at any explanation for those disparities that is not racism. The elites are unable to look hard on at the pathologies of the inner city culture that give rise to these disparities and bizarrely they would rather blame themselves for phantom racism.

'The Phantom of the Opera' closes on Broadway after 35 years

"The phantom of the opera has closed after 35 years on Broadway. I'm Archie's on a letter with the latest. There is champagne, tears, and gold and silver confetti bursting from the famous chandelier as the phantom of the opera ended its run after nearly 14,000 performances, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber dedicated the show to his son who died of cancer last month. Sarah brightman, who originated the role of Christine, says she loves seeing the show through. It's always lovely to be involved with something from inception and to see how it pans out. Phantom is an expensive production and the pandemic is to blame for its end. However, producer Cameron mackintosh says all the great musicals return.

"Was educating you in how to appreciate it, even as you were watching it. That was writer Andrea long two phantom of the opera closes has there been a social issue. And it was edited and edited edited by Matthew collette. In fact, checking his team effort led by Laura buller, so was engineering. It was led by Paul Robert mount now within a system. I'm Noelle king. Middle America types. Now, you can see any one of a number of karaoke musicals jukebox musicals like Mamma Mia! and now there's like, there's gonna be a Britney Spears one. There's a Michael Jackson one, right? Like that, the proliferation of jukebox musicals. That is part of the world that phantom created. And it may have been the first mega blockbuster or among the first mega blockbusters, but it doesn't mean or does it. Does it mean the end of them? Do audiences want something different? Oh, no. No. I mean, audiences want something different in the sense that tastes to change, right? Has the broader musical gotten less commercial? Absolutely not. I mean, just absolutely not. The difference is now what audiences want or what producers think audiences want is on the one hand, they kind of in concert experience. On the other hand, I kind of naive political messaging, you know? So a great example of this, which is also a British musical. It's about the 6 wives of Henry VIII. Died. It is not a mega musical. In fact, a scale is much, much smaller. The whole thing is meant to be sort of intimate and more self reflexive. But ultimately, with the show is, each of the wives goes through and says, he talks about, you know, their story, and they do it in specific pastiches of like, this is the Beyoncé song. This is the Adele song. This is the Ariana Grande song. In between, they kind of banter on stage and say vaguely feminist things. And that is the whole show, and it's a one act. It has the grace and compassion to be one act. I mean, it's fine. I can tell you it's a hell of a lot better than phantom. And so it's a much more modest endeavor, but it's taking some of the most important parts of that formula. And then adding a kind of smug vaguely liberal politic. Just to kind of justify itself and to meet audience tastes, right? I mean, one of the things about the British mega musical and the 80s, which includes things like cats and phantom and also Les mis, is that they were kind of global exports from the UK. And it's still the case. I don't know the number off the top of my head, but the fact that phantom is closing on Broadway doesn't change the fact that phantom remains

"And as that happens, the stage is transformed back from the early 1900s to 1881, which is when the actual story is supposed to take place, and the chandelier, which is now all illuminated, has been raised and is over the orchestra seats. At the end of act one, the phantom drops the chandelier. When it comes to plummeting down. If you're in the orchestra section, it actually does really kind of look like it's going to hit you. And then it swings back onto the stage. It is an incredibly famous moment in the history of Broadway history of musical theater. It is arguably the best part of the show. Like the chandelier itself, the show just sort of drops off in quality. The plate abuse in London in 1986 comes to Broadway in 1988. And what is the initial reaction from audiences from critics? There was something like $17 million or more in advanced ticket sales because of how successful it had already been on the West End. But Andrew Lloyd Webber had already had hits, so by the time phantom comes in 1988, cats has already been up for several years, was already a major major hit. There's no question, phantom of the opera, which opens officially next week on Broadway is the entertainment event of the year. So there's a massive amount of advanced press for this thing. And people loved it. I mean, audiences loved it. Critics had never been good to Andrew Lloyd Webber. Through most of his career, the British liked him more intended to give him higher marks. Then critics in New York in New York, it was received at best in a kind of mixed way. So for instance, John Simon's review for New York magazine back in 1988, the quote is something like it's not that Andrew Lloyd Webber lacks an ear for melodies so much is that he has too much of an ear for other people's melodies. Oh, oh. Why didn't critics take Andrew Lloyd Webber seriously? I'm looking at the list of things that he is responsible for here. Evita, Jesus Christ superstar, cats, what was the deal? The first is that he tended to he tended to be writing an imitation, either of styles or a very specific artist, so like Joseph and the amazing Technicolor dreamcoat, which is first musical of his that was ever produced. Like pharaoh is like an Elvis impersonator, essentially. So it's that song that the pharaoh sings is just a straight up kind of Elvis pastiche. When 7 fat cows came out of the night oh yeah you know Jesus Christ superstar is a rock opera Evita was sort of borrowing from quote unquote Latin American song styles. So he didn't seem to have very original musical ideas. He also tended to actually just take or at least that's what it seemed like. So don't cry for me Argentina from Evita. It seems to be scored to the box prelude in C major from the well tempered clavier.

The Globalists vs. America

"These globalists want to squander all of America's strength, blood, and treasure, chasing monsters and phantoms overseas while keeping us distracted from the havoc, they're creating right here at home. These forces are doing more damage to America than Russia and China could ever have dreamed evicting the sick and corrupt establishment is the monumental task for the next president, and I am the only one who can do it. I'm the only one that can get the job done. I know exactly what has to be done. To imagine a more succinct precise of the challenge we face. But I would add one additional detail. Yes, it is the globalists that do not believe in the nation state, the westphalian order in national sovereignty. They believe in some one world conglomeration where they get to define the values that you are allowed to expose, but beyond that, there's additional wrinkle. It's not just that nation states are bad, that sovereignty is bad. There is one nation above all else that must be targeted for dismantling. And it's ours. It's not just the globalists, vice the nation states. That's just a part of the story. It's the globalists against America.

Mike and Mark: The Broadway Investment Model

"Think about it. The Broadway model is so weird. You know, I invested in a musical for which I now have a Tony Award on my initial one, the musical of her best musical Tony Award and investors get to buy a Tony, you know, for the pleasure of having invested too much money in it. But the model is really strange. You know, there are people who invested $35,000 in wicked and they now are up to over $5 million in return. If you score a hit, you invest in a hit, you can make people that invested in, well, phantom from day one because the longer a show runs, the more it recoups its investment, how many shows how many shows have a GoFundMe like that. How many shows are doing grassroots funding at the outset. Oh, I don't think that GoFundMe model has reached Broadway. There's too much too much. I meant that. I don't really mean. I meant that kind of a way of categorizing the degree where a show starts and needs investors. Do all shows start out like that. Investors in order to get, I mean, typically you get an investor pool and because shows now, I'm sure Cinderella is, I'll bet the capitalization on that. 'cause it's expensive. 2020 $5 million, every penny of which is going to go down the drain. It's sorry, guys. Oh no, they'll lose all that. And that's a crypto of Broadway.

Other companies that are random, by the way, pulling a number out of my ass. What do you think is going to go to? Let me see. I think it could. I mean, that's always been my sort of thought projection as well as like 5 to $7, potentially. I mean, it depends on how they're building and they're doing epic stuff and have epic partnerships. So again, not financial advice. Singularity net up a 117% this week. That's pretty huge. Render, the R&D are token. I've not heard of that. It's up 43% immutable X, up 36%. Through a collaboration with the Israel space agency and the German aerospace center, three high-tech mannequins on Artemis one, will shed some light on space radiation. Named after Arturo campos and electrical engineer, who was instrumental in bringing Apollo 13 home. Munich and campos will occupy the commander's seat during the mission. Dressed in the Orion crew survival system flight suit, sensors on Munich and will measure radiation, acceleration, and vibration data throughout the mission. Two additional mannequins called phantoms are manufactured from materials that mimic human bones, soft tissues, and organs of an adult female. Zohar will wear a prototype ASTRO rad vest, while helga will not. A grid of embedded sensors will enable scientists to map internal radiation doses to areas of the body that contain critical organs. Comparison of the two phantoms will demonstrate how well the new vest might protect astronauts. And the human replicas will measure human endurance in ways that can't be done here on earth. US has over 750 complaints of Teslas braking for no reason

"U.S. safety regulators have received hundreds of complaints about Tesla's stopping while on the road for no apparent reason I'm Ben Thomas with details The national highway traffic safety administration says more than 750 Tesla owners have complained that cars operating on its partially automated driving systems such as adaptive cruise control and autopilot have rapidly decelerated without warning often repeatedly Many owners said they feared a rear end crash A letter to Tesla the agency asks the automaker for all consumer and field reports it's received about false breaking as well as reports of crashes injuries or deaths It also asks whether the company's full self-driving and automatic emergency braking systems were active at the time of any incident The agency began investigating complaints of phantom breaking earlier this year in

"Tweets already buster bleacher tweets for a Friday, first up we have Todd type K at tooth type K writes in every time I see this truck, I hope buster gets well soon and he sent the back of a truck that said, it's from only Illinois, but says only comma IL, buster, are you feeling okay over there? Oh, come on. I know it's April 1st, but that is not a pun. That's not a joke worthy of April 1st. What do you think, Todd, I appreciate it. By the way, I think it takei. Is that Todd takai as in George Takei takei oh, I said Tai K, Todd. I appreciate the sentiment. Thank you for feeling for me and hoping that I'm doing better, but next time you can do better too. T Jones writes an buster. What was Brian cashman thinking? Yeah, I didn't get your take on that. You feeling sorry for the Yankees and Brian cashman? Oh, I just sob story completely. I mean, they should make a movie about it and epic novel, you know, a clear tear jerker and the state of the Yankees, if only, if only they had the resources to compete buster. Oh man. Let's go to Steve P at Steve P zero three. Steve writes and hey at Buster Posey. Any significant updates on new stadiums or teams moving, looking at you, Oakland and Tampa, hashtag bleacher tweets, which is how I found it, a bus or posey mix up that is just classic. Yeah, not the first time, won't be the last time there are many radio interviews that I've done that the host is introduced me as Buster Posey. And I told the story and I'm going to mute down the information held the whole back some information because they don't want to embarrass anybody. I once did a podcast interview in which the guests thought it was pretty clear at the outset that the host of the podcast was Buster Posey. That's fantastic. And probably, I mean buster, I love you. I think you are great at what you do, but probably a little bit of a disappointment when that happens. Oh, there's no doubt about it. Yeah. And I hid the information. He probably was thinking, boy, Buster Posey doesn't sound like I would guess he sounds. That is very funny. Classic April fools day joke you could pull there. Andy felt is up next at felt Andy, Andy writes and buster. Thank you for your podcast as a Dodgers fan. I am concerned about who plays second base this year during spring Muncie's only playing third and first do you think this means that Lux will be playing the majority of the time in second base or you're hearing something else. I think that that position will be in a state of flux for them all year. It'll depend on the match ups, it'll depend on, you know, you have a ground ball pitcher on the mound, who's best suited defensively Chris Taylor. We'll get some starts there. There'll be some other guys that they move in. I think that at the end of the year, when we look at all the Dodger positions, second base will be the one where we see the most number of players used. Last one for the week, Richard Kelsey at that Chester kid writes in. I'm betting Juan Soto will double the amount of nationals wins in walks this year. What's the record for most walks drawn in a single season? Your friendly researcher over here looked it up Barry Bonds, 232. That seems like a lot. Yeah, and he had over a hundred intentional walks that year. I think the number that pops out of my mind is like a 114. I think you're right. I think Juan Soto is going to get walked a lot. I would say this. The fact that the nationals invested a lot of money in Nelson Cruz will at least make opposing managers feel a little bit differently, but in the end, I mean, how many guys would you rather pitch to than Juan Soto in the major leagues like everybody?.

It's April, which means we've attained something special here. Are you an April fools guy? No, I absolutely hate it. What about you? No, I'm not really an April fools guy, although I just did retweet from the National Park Service, tweet they sent out that they're planning on rotating Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial a 180° to stave on to save on the erosion in the exposure in the front and I'm curious how many people bid on that one. That's a pretty good one though. All right, I like that. I'll make an exception for really good ones select that buster. Okay, speaking of Washington earlier this week, we saw the Washington Nationals announced that they're going to have a Jersey with cherry blossoms on it and I got to say a lot of times when I see these, I'm not really a fan, but I really would love to get a cap with the cherry blossoms on it. What'd you think of this? I'm with you buster. There are some of these city connectors. He says they call them. Maybe less than good to be kind. But in this case, I absolutely love it. I think it's a relevant and reverent theme for D.C.. Anybody who's ever been down there this time of year, know what knows what a big deal a cherry blossoms are. I thought it was nicely executed. I've seen a lot of people on social media griping about the fact that they didn't lean into the pink more than they did to which I say, well, not everybody can wear an all pink outfit, either on the field or somebody who's buying something like this at retail. But I really liked it. And I thought it was a really unique I don't know in the collaboration, but the timing of the announcement by the Washington Wizards unveiling their own cherry blossom uniforms for next season in the NBA, kind of a unique thing. Yeah, I love Taylor, what'd you think? Oh, I'm a big fan of these unis here. And I like them more than the wizards ones, and you know what, Todd, I didn't really consider, but I'm not opposed to wearing pink or anything, but I think these ones are better and the lizards ones are pink and they're kind of like washed out almost. I like the collaboration. I like where their heads at, but I prefer the nationals uniform. I will say that there was one other detail of the nationals uniforms that left me, I don't know, again, big letters that say W SH do any of us refer to Washington D.C. by those three initials? No. I hate it. It's only worse if you do WAS. That's awful too. Yeah, or I mean, just why not a giant D.C. there? Come on. Blew it. Or a certain amount of pandering to the entire region. The DMV Taylor. Yeah. Buster's exhausted with this conversation. Yeah, DMV, bad connotations reminds me of standing online in Lower Manhattan, waiting to get a license for nude, not a good thing. All right, let's get to this week's phantom franchise. The first of your phantom franchise presentations. Buster, we're starting out big in 1934, the Saint Louis Cardinals won the World Series, defeating the Detroit tigers in 7 games. All that year, both before the season and after the Cardinals were rumored to be on the move to Detroit, a shift that seems inconceivable today and one that would have changed the course of baseball history. Cardinals owner Sam breedon publicly floated the possibility of a move to Detroit, a city that battled hard for the worst years of The Great Depression. Buoyed by its championship sports scenes, baseball was hugely popular in the motor city in these years. The tigers led the majors in attendance in both 1934 and 1935, which is a pretty good example of why the shift never stood a chance. The tigers would never have given up their exclusive territorial rights, something which would have been necessary for the Detroit cardinals to have ever taken the field of play. A driving factor in the potential move was the Cardinals ballpark. Sportsman's park, which was owned by the American League St. Louis browns. Despite winning a championship, the Cardinals, the great gashouse gang, drew only 4222 fans per game in 1934, all the while paying rent to the browns. The following year, Britain was quoted as saying, I think Detroit would be an ideal spot for the Cardinals and I would go there in a minute if Tiger's owner Frank Navin opened the way for us to come in but I doubt that he would want us. The 1935 tigers won the World Series and naven passed away a few weeks later. And the Cardinals, of course, stayed put in St. Louis where they still play today. As one of MLB's flagship clubs, but in the depths of The Great Depression, they almost became the Detroit cardinals, and they are this week's inaugural phantom franchise. Wow. That would have been incredible. Because as you know, the fan base in St. Louis that generally speaking, when those rankings are done, they're right near the top in terms of support and how that franchise is viewed. And I mean, where this is in some respects, we're going down fantasy laying a little bit and I thought to myself, but boy, if you had a combination of the old English D on the caps of the Detroit Cardinals and the Cardinals uniforms as they are now, that pretty much would be an undefeated combo when we talk about great uniforms and caps. Yes? Yeah, I mean talk about a mighty like top inner circle Hall of Fame buster. Yeah. Exactly. All right, let's get to this week's quiz. How about Sarah? You know, she came out of the gate strong last week. She ties with me, gets it correctly, and she's not here this week, which means that by the end of today's quiz, she could be in first place by percentage points. I don't know how all this works. It's going to be very confusing, but we will forge on without Sarah, when you guys are ready. Are you ready? I am ready. Taylor, are you ready to lose again? I mean, are you ready? Buster, all right, read the question, Todd. Here we go. Going into the 2022 season, the tigers Miguel Cabrera did 13 hits to get to 3000 for his illustrious career. So here's this week's question. This player was the first to notch his 3000th hit indoors. Was it a, Eddie Murray, B, wade Boggs, C, Pete Rose, or D, Dave Winfield. First player to get his 3000th hit indoors Eddie Murray, wade Boggs, Pete Rose, or Dave Winfield. Wow. Taylor, no, I got it right, so I've got to go first. I know one for sure, but I'm concerned about the other one. Golly, this is a hard one. I'm gonna go D Dave Winfield. I'll.

"Story, but that fun story about how when the Cardinals were going through COVID protocol when they had players test positive and Jack flaherty was throwing into a mattress in his hotel room. I've wondered about how that all contributed to where he is now. Again, you're right. But that's an unknown. I don't know the answer to that question. I think it's a very legitimate question. But unfortunately, once you look, once you begin to have a history of injuries, you know, it's amazing how long it takes to erase the perception that you're injury prone. And then what do you think that the timeline on that is two to three years of clean health of making 30 starts a year? Because that's now the same way Jacob de Grom moving forward is going to be our surgery and the ability to fix it is going to be, well, there's an injury risk there. That's how you look at Jack flaherty. And again, I don't know what the time frame is on proving I'm not injury prone, but he's got a ways to go on that. Yeah, and you hope for the best for him and that he can get back on the mound and make his 25 to 30 starts during the course of this season. Before we go, I want to ask you about the comments made by Brian cashman. The other day to the athletic in which he basically talked about how he views the 2017 Yankees as being the champions because in the playoffs that year the American League championship series that year they were beaten by the Astros and as we found out later, the Astros were conveying signs in real time to their hitters. And Carla, you know, I've thought about this moment. I'll never, you know, I covered that series for ESPN and I'm never forget doing live shots right outside of the Astros Clubhouse after they beat the Yankees net series. And you know where the visiting buses are parked, it requires the players to walk right past the home Clubhouse. And are never forget, you know, Aaron Boone, Aaron judge, passing Astros players who had sort of spilled out into the hallway with family members wearing goggles, all drenched in spray, Aaron Boone stopping and congratulating AJ Hinch, the Astros manager at that time. Brian cashman, making a point of going in and I think it was hinted that he congratulated, but being a good sport and of course all the information comes out and it's pretty clear from these comments that Brian cashman is very angry. I just don't know what purpose it serves for him to do this. I think it's a bad idea that he said this out loud. And it's also quite frankly, it's very presumptuous to view the Yankees. Is the 2017 champions when they didn't in fact drink a series. You think? I was surprised. Look, I guess it's a reminder for people who are not necessarily, and I know the question was framed about the Yankees drought, but it's almost a reminder that the Astros won, but their victory was tainted as opposed to really being an indictment on the Yankees who successful, but certainly haven't won any World Series in a long time, and that of course would really work the hell out of me if I was the guy that was in charge of putting the team together. A 100% agree on what value is there. I don't see any value in it other than to remind people and why what the motivation would be to remind people that the asteroids cheated. I don't get it. And I do think I think it was Chris Russo, who went off about steroids, et cetera, maybe the year that the Yankees were winning the World Series. Whatever it may be, it opened up a can of worms. He probably didn't need to open or watch open, but I never looked at his comments and said, golly, he's right. Yeah, you know, that would have ended the drought. There's no connection between the two thoughts to me it was more of a, if you wanted to tweak and remind people that it's a tainted World Series, that's what you did, but it certainly didn't lead me to the path of, oh, that's right. At the end of the end of the path, there were the Yankees lifting a World Series trophy. It didn't make sense to me. Yeah, Brian cashman's quote, the only thing that stopped the 2017 Yankees was something that was so illegal and horrific, so I get offended when I start hearing we haven't been to the World Series and so 9 because I'm like, well, I think we actually did it the right way, pulled it down, brought it back up, drafted well, traded well, developed well Seinfeld. The only thing that derailed us was a cheating circumstance that threw us off and look, I'm one of those that believes that the Astros that year had an advantage over other teams because of the real time manner in which they conveyed sign stealing. But I don't think you're going to get a lot of sympathy. If you're the general manager of the Yankees from fans of the Tampa Bay race of course not or the Indians, the Cleveland Indians or most other teams, like they're not going to feel sorry for the New York Yankees given the fact that on a year in and year out basis, the Yankees outspend other teams by 30, 40, 50%. No. To me, you're just stepping in quicksand and every time you say, yeah, but someone else is going to say, yeah, but remember the Dodgers were just a lot better than you the next year and they didn't cheat. I just don't make the connection and I'm sure the most other people don't recognize that if there were no cheating by the Astros, the Yankees would have had their next World Series title and their first since O 9, that's let's just say that's a Grand Canyon sized leap, a 100%. And it should have been something that he just kept to himself and shared that share that opinion with you and I and others over a beer. But in terms of saying that out loud and on the record, I was surprised. All right, Ravi. Can he talk with you? And I will see you in Atlanta next week. I look forward to it, thank you all right, buster, thanks. With the safe return of live events, you can actually be there to catch all the action in person with vivid seats..

"Tough thing to say, clearly, bet on himself the same way that his team make Max Scherzer has been on himself time and time again, but that's a huge, huge reason for concern. And now you're kind of pivot to almost what Alex anthropologist did last year when Acuna got hurt to the mets now just quickly go out and recognize even if he's able to come back. We need security. I mean, Chris Bassett is great. It sure is your great. There's all sorts of optimism and hope about Carrasco and Taiwan walker. But to Billy eppler in book and Steve Cohen make it clear like, all right, let's get Frankie montas group on the phone. Let's call Oakland. Let's figure out how we can plug this hole. If he doesn't come back and, you know, the braves are a great example. They won without sirocco at all last year. Degrom is a next level guy. You're losing the best pitcher in baseball when he's right. But you've put yourself in a position to be able to at least compete, I don't look at them without Jacob as a team that can't do anything. I look at them with Jacob as a World Series contender, but they got to do something quickly. I think and given where they're at and what the moves that they've made have gotten them too, you've got to keep going, don't you? No, no question. You pushed a huge percentage of your chips for 2022 into the pot, you know, Steve Cohn, stepping out. Spending money because he wants to win, if you can make a deal, then go ahead and do it. And I think that's part of the reason why Oakland Oakland basically decided, you know what? We're not getting exactly what we want to get in return for either shaman I or Frankie montas and at some point there's going to be an injury that's going to compel some contender to do something and this might be the case. Without question. Maybe that's the Michael conforto thing too. I know the shoulder thing there, but Boris is smart. Let's wait. Somebody's going to need a center field a real soon. While you were in that area, it mets camp recently. You also stopped by the Cardinals camp. The other day, Carl, I was on radio in St. Louis, and I talked about how they asked me, you know, what I think of the Cardinals. And I think they're the favorites to win the national league central, but I mentioned that part of the reason why that is is because nobody did anything in the division like the reds cut back. They traded away a bunch of guys. We know the pirates are tanking the Chicago Cubs made very measured moves. The brewers made moves where they reduced salary on their offensive side. That was their goal. They really didn't add much other than signing Andrew mccutcheon, and so I think that's the context within I look at the Cardinals as being the potential FrontRunner in the central. What about you? Yeah, you know, I think that I would take the brewers. I think the brewers are the team to beat, you know, I think a lot of the brewers issues last year and we covered them a lot. We were there in the postseason doing their radio. Look, they could not hit. There's no doubt they could not hit it was it was terrible. I'm going to bank on Yelich being better. I don't think somebody of his talent could be much worse than he was. I think he's going to be better. I do think some of the offensive moves will make cut payroll. I think should improve them. But look, this team wins with pitching and defense and their pitching, assuming health. And I think with at least the three starters, there's a better than average chance they're going to stay healthy. And you bring Williams back with hater, I think this is and I think that they're on the cusp of being able to go out and hopefully being as good as they are as healthy as they are as deep as they are with their pitching if we do need to make a move that Stearns and Aetna will give them the money they need to go get another bat. To be honest, I thought a guy like schwarber would have been perfect within Milwaukee Brewers. But I do think that that to me, I look at the cardinals and you talk about a win now, my gosh. Albert going back there is a fan favorite move and it's kind of a dream come true thing for him. But it reminds me of just where that team is as far as age. I think they're obviously old and I think they may be a little a little too old. I wish there was a lot more youth on that team and athleticism, I just feel like I'm a little skeptical on the Cardinals relative to the brewers. I think the cubs are going to be a little bit better. I don't think they're in that group, but I think they're going to be competitive. I like the brewers in that division to be honest. There's no question that for the Cardinals. The great X Factor is Jack flaherty, who in theory would be their ace, you know, the young guy who's throwing a 182 hundred innings in leading that staff, but I've gotten to the point with flaherty Carl where I kind of think of him like de Grom. There's been enough injury issues really since that 2020 COVID season in which you begin to wonder, okay, how durable is he? In fact, I've wondered, you know, that great, I mean, that fun story..

"The excitement about the braves coming off a World Series season. If you're ever going to temper a loss of somebody like Freddie Freeman, Atlanta with a World Series title matters and extension and signing, Ronald Acuna coming back, they've sold more seasoned tickets this year than they have ever sold. So they're really feeling feeling great about themselves and riding high and I can't wait to be back in that environment. Yeah, my favorite story from the mad Olsen whirlwind, that was the word he used about those 24 hours, a lesson that, in fact, when the Atlanta Braves made the trade with Oakland, you know, he gets word of the trade and Alex and the brave general manager calls him and says to him, hey, I'm going to come out at you hard right away. We want to sign you to a long-term deal. And that was about noon, 1 o'clock, Eastern Time when that conversation took place. Alex called BB Abbott, Olsen's agent right after that, and then hours later, as Olson's getting ready to board a plane in Arizona, BB Abbott tells him, look, you know, make sure you're on Wi-Fi because I might have to get some approval from you about some deals. And so just hours later, after just a little bit of haggling, baby text Matt that, yes, the braves offer is a $168 million and department of Olson's reaction other than a profanity. Holy crap. Was to ask Bibi. He was so stunned by all these turn of events. He asked him if the contract was guaranteed. He should go, what's 40 was playing? Hey, Hallie, you're 30,000 feet up there and all this stuff is going on. Look, that's a hard one. I thought he was going to ask BB if he was if any of this was real. Am I sleeping? Is any of this happening? It is an incredible stars aligning story. It really is. It's amazing. Yeah, that was certainly a surprising turn of events, and it feels like with Jacob de Grom. This is not at all surprising. In fact, every time after they sign Max Scherzer, you know, there was the excitement in the media. Wow. You know, you got max Jersey, you get dick and degrom. And the whole time I thought was, you have to qualify everything with if they stay healthy because it feels like after what we saw with the Grom last year, it was inevitable that we could potentially see a breakdown. What about for you? Well, a 100%. Yeah, you know, I don't know. I know he came in, he looked a little bit stronger as if he was, you know, trying to build up around it so that none of these things would happen and then having shoulder tightness and I know the way it played out yesterday was Joe Walter had a press conference and then he went back out later to say I just want to let everybody know that we're dealing with Jacob de Grom has got some shoulder tightness and we'll know more tomorrow, meaning today and yeah, there's a huge level of concern. And I think to some extent, even though we saw shares are during the World Series with the nationals wake up and couldn't get out of bed, it's incredible how durable he has been over his career. And you're in this you're in this period with Jacob, where it feels like you're on eggshells and you just know that the next step, the next day, the next outing, can be a real bad one. You know, we're watching the Yukon women buster play in the NCAA tournament in the final four. And of course, their best player page deck was hurt her knee during the season. And every time I watch them play and we watch a lot, I always wonder to myself like, how healthy is that? And is this the, is this a step that's going to cause it to kind of reinjure itself? That's how I feel about to grow on every time he's gone out there since these injuries began to crop up and it's such an easy tease because I do think Jacob even compromised is better than 95% of the pitchers. That's the teaser in all this. How good he is, even if he's, even if he's not a 100% and holding out hope that he was going to somehow be a 100% that seemed seemed like fool's gold and certainly this shoulder issue was a big concern. Somebody within the organization when I said, give me a give me a level of concern, one to ten. They pegged it at a 5 and that's before before they get the imaging results, which I think is happening today. Yeah, I would put the level of concern that I think most people would have at about a 9 or ten working in baseball just because they would agree. And look, you know, I tend to think now of Max Scherzer. And by the way, just as you just mentioned that got confirmation that as we speak, Jacob degrom is going for an MRI. Yeah, of course. So, you know, I tend to think now of Max Scherzer as being an outlier, much in the same way Nolan Ryan was an outlier in terms of how much max throws, how durable he is. People for years would say, just do the same throwing program as Nolan Ryan, and I'd be like, nah, no. This guy is just a freak. Max Scherzer is a freak. Jacob McGrath on the other hand, it's a normal trajectory to me in terms of his injuries because, you know, I've had front office people say, if you want to know that the greatest predictor and most accurate predictor of injuries, it's previous injuries. And if you look at Jacob degrom, may 4th of last year, scratch from a start because of a right side issue, a may 9th, placed on the injured list. June 11th, right elbow issue, leftist start early. June 16th, right shoulder issue, leftist start early, he had a right forearm issue on July 18th. And then of course he was placed in the injured list, didn't make any more starch finished with just 15 starts. And when he said a couple of weeks ago and, you know, I love Jacob de Grom, and you do too in terms of how good of a pitcher he is when he said two weeks ago, yeah, I'm opting out of the rest of my contract. This year, I was shaking my head. I'm like, you don't know that. You just don't write that because we might have another breakdown. Of course. And thankfully, I don't think you're right, you know, you didn't sign anything that said yes, I'm opting out so you could probably say I'd well, I'm obviously not because I got hurt and all this is guaranteed, et cetera..

Romance Novels for Black Women

"You so much for joining these day. I really appreciate you hanging out and talking about romance novels with me this afternoon. I'm so excited. It's my favorite thing to talk about likewise so to you i would love for you to just kind of get us started by talking about what actually makes a romance novel a romance novel. Like how is their genre classified. Well there are some actual hard and fast rules that you have to follow. Were to be considered a romance. Like a romance isn't just fiction with a love story in it. The love story has to be prominent. So it can't be like a thriller where they're solving a murder or something and they accidentally way in the background fall. But that's not point at all so the love has to be or front and there has to be a happy ending if there is an. Yeah if there is no happy ending. It's not a romance in. Who says these rules. Where do these rules confirm. Maybe the romance writer association Their long-held hardened basked rules. Okay and the phantoms. Get into battles over at honey yes it. Yeah this doesn't classify you know so like we were speaking in technical terms. That's what that is. But like i grew up on romancing the stone and things like They're like on adventures in cartagena colombia. Like solving insane mysteries following romance to me that might not technically classify. No yeah interesting. So very i saw you shaking your head when she said the phantoms. Kinda get into a would have been some of your favorites. And how did you get into this genre. I would say like. I've always been a reader. I don't know how to explain that. The people but i've always been a deep reader and one of the children were meet other women. They're like yeah. I was picking books that people's houses and disarray minimum. That was me picking people's houses.

"Of them admitted to females involvement again again even though we have. Dna like a female accusers. So say we shall see it just. It's so bizarre. But they were more than willing to point the finger at the other guy for what happened but they never admitted to a woman And about this time and may ninth. Two thousand eight in the saarland in germany is a massive dragnet over that area in austria and france and the phantom strikes again. A cleaning lady is brutally attacked. And not but she survives. Okay despite being robbed of several hundred euros and the mystery. Dna appears again on the woman. October twenty sixth. Two thousand eight. I o blonde feinberg. Diana pelinka forty-five a nurse is found. Lying drowned in a pond in her car is nearby In dad i'm sorry my notes were out of order there but they found her in nearby with the car and began his dna pops up the phantoms in the car. But now one where. I was digging a little bit more. On paul. Anka's murder this sounded suspiciously like a sex crime to me on the face of it. When you have a woman of that age dumped in a remote spied dipping nearby or car perhaps a sex crime which would be pretty much out of character for what we know. So far i would say but maybe not i mean these are so scattered all over the place right and very diverse crimes. Yeah so basically around this time in germany in two thousand eight you have a. Let's see what. Let's tally Well wait a minute. Let's do that in just a second. There's one more that we need to touch on before. We elliott up. There was a robbery that happens soon after this where a stone was used to smash a window right and the police in investigating that talk to a couple witnesses that said that they saw a man running away from the scene a mutt singular. Yes singular man.

"Yes there is geographically. You're talking about three hundred kilometers between the two. Well as we can see on the map. Which is you know. Hunter and fifty ish miles. Which is you know. It's not walking distance but is not an impossible distance to go. I mean it's not typical for murderers to travel such distances to find victims but it's not unthinkable either. Well i think it's important to remember as well with fat. That germany was a Very automotive culture yes not unlike. Our's so i mean right. Hundred fifty miles for driving really isn't all that much couple hours. Yeah especially in germany. But if you look at both of these the logical inclusion to the investigators was it's a murderous robber when they had a what they hit actually thought with these crime. Scenes was that mich- languor and mr vol's bach had interrupted a robbery. It's not an unreasonable thought I thought so as well and then had been killed because that But this gets even more bizarre as we go on here. Yeah in garrels stein deutschland in september. A one a child stepped on a syringe in the playground yard. Andy injured their foot. All right and the kids parents split that when they took him to the hospital to test him for aids was their big worry said yeah. They said that we want an investigation of that. Live is serious syringe in our playground. Well i can tell you somebody put it there. Yeah yeah but they ended up taking a slob there okay and that actually rested in a dna database for about six years old. Did you say where the dna was found on number two on that wine dna found on a drawer in a doorknob okay. Same unknown female dna so to recap so far we have. We have a coffee cup a drawer and a doorknob and now a severe severe park. Yes yes with heroin residue in it. I'm not seeing the connection here. But they didn't actually find the phantoms. Dna in that syringe until two thousand and seven. I don't know why it just sat there like fat but because there was no real crime year that could be no property crime. No complaining witness as it were on. But yeah i mean we know that now so we have another fact thrown into the mix tad we have a female burglar who is killed. Two people in the commission of her crimes end is probably a junkie fair right. Yeah seen on well. Yeah but as these go on. The dna starts emerging sin seemingly without consistency in various other offensives car thefts in austria.

Biology identified lion tracks there in nineteen ninety two. In fact they've even gave him permission to find and kill the lion bro. You're i know you're into plants I'm just joking. That's a biology. And you like no one about you ever. We're going to give you a gun and we'll give you some people and you go find this line. You fuck him up. So the lion tracks were soon found in russia as well making it apparent that the cat had crossed the border but russia is large in. The line was never found and we can't even be sure that it was a lion. It's definitely real though whatever it is. I imagine phantom. Cats don't probably live that long in russia but he said that they found line tracks. Yes so that's what. I'm saying phantom could be it could be just fucking creatures prehistoric time most likely they're fucking animals that are real that we know of that are dropped in weird places like why there's a line in finland is weird when animals are in finland we have some listeners from there with the flex out. "One time on my paper but each dot represents a different point in time i'm interacting with all four of those dot eight vaccine even though to me just one point to someone that has four distinctive point in time. So that's how this dimension works with interacting with argument. So is your little lesson today in the mind of grant morrison. I mean it makes sense of it is it makes sense. It goes explaining the time. I was listening to talk more about when he was doing his action on mectron for the new for two and stuff explaining how events took place in how things happened in changed in all of this and then i kind of like rereading some of that run just now that we have nikki in the story line so yeah that was phantom menaces what you think james o'keefe it. I enjoyed myself. It's this supergirl is definitely the show where i mean we. We see it in the flash and stuff but supergirl is still even further beyond when it comes to the science fiction. And the don't know. If i want to say alternate realities may be alternate dimensions. As opposed to realities cause flash more like parallel earths. Which are your like your alternate realities and the dimensions like the phantom zone. Fifth dimension are something even more more complex and science fiction than than just than the parallel earths so we get some of that seifi cheese and camp which is really prevalent in this episode. I think with the phantoms and dimension and the phantom zone And i loved it. Oh i agree. There's things i've i have. Thought is watching shows this season and i i do not know all the ovid restrictions that are on film sets and filming and all that so i wonder like some of some of the reasons why the stories. Maybe don't feel good or the accident or the facing or whatever is because of restrictions that they can't do certain things you know they have to film a certain way and they're trying be the best they end with the situation and the circumstances So you know. I think this is just a time that some people just lighten up about certain things. Plus you know. We're in season six. We've always known what these shows were. Yeah i mean you. Roller coaster sometimes great seasons. You have good seasons your bad season or you have good bad and rate episodes. And it's just kinda the nature of elvis and i don't think there's any show where every episode is a home run right. I mean except for firefly but you only get so many. You only got so many episodes. Except for firefox the show that only have like twelve fourteen episodes. Yeah there for hank. Stolen i can. It's the only one i can think of. But like what with nathan fillion said never had a chance to be bad pursue because it was short lived. But yeah i mean we know that these shows are emmy shows try to do different things different seasons. I mean that's why arrow season three and season three was that the and they started to introduce okay. No that was razzano glow season four. That was worse than season. Three when they introduced magic and damian dark into the arrow into aero- specifically for the ever happen. Yeah it doesn't it doesn't really work on what they had built around arrow but it's not saying that it's like bet that it killed the show you know what i mean. They just went back to stuff that worked more. Just the least liked season of the show. I mean what are you going to do. They tried different things We all know what these shows are. So it's just misery loves company these days and everybody loves to be miserable I looked up because i've had supergirl on. We've got knicks. Lee is nicks lead. Gsp t. l. n. z. Is her fifth dimensional name. She is actually the fifth dimensional princess or whatever that was in grant morrison's action run thoughts of as well as she is the girlfriend to mixture spit lick from superman. The animated series the same love interest female fifth dimensional character. That we have seen in superman. Mythos that's what. I thought that was her. And i just hadn't had changed the research and check it out and that's why i think it'd be great. I thought the last half of her name looked familiar. But i didn't look it up before now can spell it. Is that subtitles. I got it on right in front of me. Tanya it's the way to go but krypton report we're going to be out and out of the phantom zone now you know. Hopefully it's a much better experience you know not like your age Planet blows up or you have to put your hand on a machine or maybe it's just something simple as someone you step out from everybody here. We're gonna wish you guys a good good. we hope. i hope to time. Enjoy enjoy the rich. Basque shows that bcs given us the last thing. I was gonna say taint tyler. "What happens is we see the fans known tact her and it is if you i think that was a week later referred to as fantasy they say prime phantom but i liked it sounds cooler and basically we learned that the anthems feed off a solar energy beer. What would be known as the sole rain talk about some formulas and they've found the thirty first what we consider a soul was basically destroy mcgowan soul and turn her body into and they've remember that art of magan soul resides gone as of the martian. Bonding it so. They set up a way to transfer that art of earth. Toll machine back to her to save her. And that's what allison brainier. Bending from the phantoms. And it's a pretty sweet scene because you have a multiple phantoms combusting. In and lena's they're assisting and that's where we get the line about The kidnap simone but phantom prime is able to portable away from my age. They have yes she is. She is trying to set the teleport or watch to send them into the containment cells while brainy and alex are fending off the phantoms to allow john to. Yes save again with kelly. I bite add. Kelly is in the room with them with john. Mcgann gave kelly using her tactic monitor. But it was kind of one of those like it. Use the in. Whatever like that's just kind of biloxi right so we're not like by. It was one of those type of the filler assignment. So now let's back lax and up. Probably the more interesting dynamic at the more me because this is kind of lena's redemption right. Now we have. Lena elect battling over l. or early for now control. Lena was able to with brain. He's assistance change. Being option on everything changed less bio scans so that the keep him out of the company stuff. But we're selects finds a way around everything and then we felt a has a new friend who is now. The district attorney was the assistant district attorney. Who is now a district attorney. Who is looking into ernani. Cherry opening invest and and. That is one of lex is big power place against her. Well you mentioned the lex foundation. Or whatever and rainy in lena basically are able and they drain all flex his accounts and donated to children's hospital all this money the ad for his foe foundations or whatever they donate to a children's hospital and what is left lack sets a children's hospital on buyer seem engines he sends otis is a visit and man that right there proved out dark in office and then he has blamed on faulty wiring. Embrace being there was the one responsible for all the updates and maintenance to the renovation of the children at the hospital throwing like trying to throw her under the bus said as power moved to two one. Lena always fight. They're always fighting. It was just like it's one of those can't when you're dealing with someone that diabolical trying to fight them as is hard because they will operate without any conscience or rules they will sink to any level. And how do you combat that. You know doesn't care who urged her what year. It's absolutely and that leaves lena. Well before she makes her decision. We have an awesome scene between brain. And lena were lena says about wanting to kill lex to the wish. We could just kill him. Brings you have and she said yes. It sent me to the darkest places. And brainy goes off about how bad he wants to build lexin and how he knows a carbon breaks down where he could send him a how ego dart and then he just breaks down about since having his inhibitors. Not being able to process is emotions. All the He's getting hit with all of his emotions. He doesn't wanna inhibitors block them. Obviously he doesn't know how awesome with a child learning how to deal with their emotions. That's why kids have meltdowns. And they throw fits and things like that because they're feeling things they don't know how to deal with how to process. There are people in their thirties and forties. Who don't know how to deal with their crap Yes we won't say any name. Yes i so besides lax and lena's interactions this episode which is yes very compelling and i'm interested to see where it goes because lexus final line in this episode is butler asking him so what does the man. What's the man who what are you going to do. Being the man who has everything and he says he'll get more than goes through any any walks through a portal. Transient but.

"All right into ministers episode when it started to really felt like it just just picked up the last episode as if maybe they filmed a little bit more from the last episode or something and they couldn't they plan on putting it in this episode or a bit or something because it just it is was so seamless when they come in and find silas he's cold and it just is really had an internet. Feel like that episode. Well i'm not. I'm not positive i didn't check credits and you bringing it up. I like that about the episode as well but and check the credits to see. How if it was the same writers or the last couple of episodes. Two right now You know get a get a nice complete story. Through through a couple episodes. Few episode arcs. using the same writers. I'm sure that would be beneficial. But they do show up they find silas freezing and take with a scratch on his neck and they take him to they. Take him to the watchtower. Think that's what they call it Taken back to the watchtower and there we discover that the phantoms are in alien race. Yes and Says it's like owed on zambian believes what he said. That sounds about right but they just continue to call them phantoms. A neat like they were a race that See the erase that from bow and planets and basically turn it up turning into them and tony in spot them off and sent them to the. And that's that's pretty the back story of this onions. Space back this building up that world we talked about. They didn't seem very like phantom life. But i liked impact. Yeah they flew they kind of seemed like wraiths but come to find out they do fly but they actually have legs and they they are creatures like yeah like a race and i like act. If though that there's a line over the place year but supergirl says that her mother was the one that read. Yes she did say that. I think when they were discussing the escape later on when it was hers. Or al and nick. Nix nix. -ly.

"Usual boys next to me on this beautiful saturday morning here in ohio. Aaron ohio yeah the land of superman but early morning in ohio. Yeah i like. There's been news going on. I to think like i'm pulling up my notes here. I think actually been much. I've got a busy week myself. Just life in general. But now i within is really happened. No i mean this week spin working and kids in school and then working around the house. Yup that they've announced this is what's so this is one thing. This is not really new news but like they've announced the home. Release of the snyder cut or the uk but they've yet to announce the home release or the us. And i'm like among my home released. I definitely want my or capable racing on my shelf. I won't take it away. Yeah well at the moment. I mean it's for the us they're not released. I'm sure they're not releasing it on physical media in the us to drive their hbo. Max subscriptions people want to watch zek ciders justice league they have to get. Hbo matt's. I hope that eventually. Because yes i do want my physical media absolutely want it start looking into region players and how that works and see if i can get somebody to just to me for me lund right. I have a friend in england. I'll send him some winning so probably cost. You like what they say. Twenty quid not sure on the exchange rate right now. I know i've ordered accidentally have ordered blu rays and stuff in canada like through amazon before. And they've shown up and laid fine. The boxing has like canadian ratings and stuff on know. Who aren't they still on in the north american region for that stuff. Yeah that's why he did. Yeah but anyway so we gotta get into some menaces not the phantom menace but phantom menaces see what they did there now turned her hate trying to reference the star wars movie. No one ever says. Hey what's into minutes. Well i mean unless you're part of the scenes of intimacy tapert. I'll watch the scenes of from phantom menace with great park. Those are the best scenes of the entire movie yes. They are absolutely the best scenes of the entire movie in awesome. I i like the videos. It's like whenever you hand. Ray park a two sided lightsaber or a staff or whatever he always has to always does those impressive routines just off. The fly in the middle of the group of people was when i met report. I wasn't like all star. Spa i was like oh god. I was the guy that played the headless horseman in sleepy hollow. Like being sleepy hollow idea. That was where i was excited from. I love i know you know. He's he's toadies. Dr small he snake eyes. I always do. We're on carrie. Fisher was there. And i was being if i ever make issue i but a login screen. It was such a great role. Bypass the whole sleigh as a like her blues brother's part right remember she's the villain like dan ackroyd. That'd be awesome. Let's get into this episode. So one thing i will say you're supergirl season six episode. Jerry phantom menaces is this. I don't know maybe because of others filmed or when this was filmed like right after her pregnancy and stuff like much normally start building It hasn't been a whole lot. I feel like supergirl by her side. World has been built up so much that even when i was watching it with sailors. She's like we're super daddy and i'm like it's like when oliver and berry were in prison. You know the actors usually sometimes they have other things going on me. And that's that's why they have the supporting cast in these shows. You don't have to worry about the supporting gas to that degree. You have to worry about your main character when you're writing your comics and everything because you know. They're in the referee. But in a television show you have to build up at ensemble and especially when they go for years like this. You know everybody has to get things to do. And then when your main actor has other commitments crap okay. We've got these other people to to to work with my. My thing is like right now like we were in such a rebuild ascher. I've got you know shorthanded with just john. Leaving the deal and have his own detective agency thing that has really never take off as might. We don't really have any side right now that i'm really like a invested in their story. I feel like so many of the taxpayers. We've used up their stories or that just like okay like my most invest airdrie. I think has leinen lights and we'll get into that with this episode. So here's a quick summary. Supergirl loses zoro in the paint himself but finds a new ally. Meanwhile a phantom transformed silas into one of its own and six sets out to convert more humans to and lexin. Lena continue their aim at mouse as they tried to trump to dumb dumb dome so my first thing is i forgot that was back to being for not l. Poor nascar when that happened. That was something that was a fall off prices or not. I really need to wash into last season. There's a little details. I don't remember me years while. And i'm like that's a i'm like when like i feel like when they talk about the anti life equation they mentioned that plank signing lesson after he said i had a memory about it. You know but. I'm how excited was when steppenwolf dark side we're talking about anti life but here i am on superhero talking.
