Reminiscing With Kip Henley About the Caddie Food Truck
"We're caddy people, man. We're FTP. We're caddy guys. We'd rather have caddies on than a majority of players. I mean, it goes without saying. I feel bad about it sooner. Are you guys would eating caddy dining a lot with us? I'm pretty sure that's true. Hey, remember Colleen, you would remember this too. This was right when you played the tour as well. Remember the truck, the caddy trailer that used to come to every tournament. And dude, that's all. That was the best food on property every week. And then what happened? The PGA Tour said, you just can't stop, you can't come anymore, right? Then the PGA Tour accident, yeah, and it really tore a lot of the older caddies up, you know? That was their, you know, they just loved it. And man, what a great breakfast it was. You go, I can't get a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, or whatever, and they put up with all our personalities. I mean, really, truly, if there would have been a camera sitting up in the corner of that trailer. On those years, can you imagine what that footage would be worth with all the players sneaking in there and eating with us? Good job, that would have been a dying great thing to have. I was dude. It was good. It's like a mobile home. It was like a mobile home with a kitchen, and then they had some chairs outside. They'd set up, and then one year, one year, I think it was my rookie year, but now my second year, it was just gone. And I guess the tour was like, yeah, we don't want fun anymore. Fund's not allowed out here and that was it. Yeah. They kicked the fun trailer away. They should have kept it. You know, even as this extra option for the players, the players loved it too, man. Oh, yeah. But you guys went in there, and it was like a waffle House. It was. It was like a waffle House, basically. It was like a mobile waffle House every week. It's like your God ding right, I'm gonna go to that thing.
Tiger Woods doesn't 'have much left in this leg' to compete
"Woods withdrew from playing at the tournament he's hosting in Bermuda this weekend. I don't have much left in his leg. The injury is plantar fasciitis in his right foot. I can take golf balls. It's the walking that just hurts. The plantar fasciitis is related to injuries would suffered in a car crash in 2021, which ended any hope of him playing on a regular basis. Geralt for the biggest ones and hopefully lightning catches in a bottle and I'm up there in contention with a chance to win and I hope that I remember how to do that. Tiger Woods also doesn't have much hope for the PGA Tour and Greg Norman Saudi funded rival league live getting along. Not with Greg there and his animosity towards the tour itself. I don't see that happening. As Rory said, and I said it as well. I think Greg has got to leave. Lawsuits and counter lawsuits have been filed. I'm Ed Donahue
The Last Hole Is Always the Best Hole
"I mean, the last hole, though, I think it's always the best one for multiple reasons. Dude, that's nerve wracking, because you've got pods for hundreds of thousands potentially $1 million down the PGA Tour. The last hole could be to make a cut on a Friday. Like you're just happy when that thing is done. It's not necessarily your favorite, you're just happy it's over type situation. Like if someone said, if you could play a whole over and over again for the rest of your life, specifically a whole, well, most courses for me, it probably wouldn't be the last so I picked some random one, but in a tournament, for sure. 1000%, 1000%, I would say that.
Charlie and Tiger Woods' Golfing Dymanic
"We got Charlie and Tiger. He picked Charlie and Tiger. He also talked about a lot of going to win the father son. They're probably going to win the father's son. I can think of no better scenario to in 2022 with the Tiger Woods coming. Coming back on the golf course and him and his son taken down, taken down the father's son. He could probably do you think Charlie Woods can be Tiger at this point? I don't know, man. I don't know. I heard Charlie goes to the weight room all the time. Like for however old he is, how old is he? 13, 14. He looks freaking like he's pretty swole. But I heard Tiger, I heard Tiger, he might not be playing it anymore. I don't know. Shows you how up to date we are with current golf events. I mean, I don't know why he wouldn't, unless he's really, really, really banged up, but I hope he does play 'cause that was fun to watch. Charlie swing, by the way, you can break stuff down and find false, but he has a lot of mannerisms just because he watched, I bet you, I'm assuming tigers his coach, right? Maybe he has another coach that looks at him, but I'm assuming tigers is his coach. And I mean, he has a hole in his backyard that you can hit a full 7 iron in. And the real estate just on that 7 iron hole is probably $50 million plus. This is just, I mean, different kind of wins, different greens, different everything. And I'm not saying that because there's plenty of, there's plenty of rich kids growing up. That were kids of guys on the PGA Tour and they grew up just being a bunch of assholes and weren't good at golf at all. And they just blah, blah, blah. A lot of them decided they were smart. They didn't want to play golf. Maybe they're a doctor or maybe they're trying to save the world. That's fine. But a lot of these kids, you know, you know them, you'll see them just get sponsored exemptions, blah, blah, blah. I think Tiger puts it in Charlie's head like, hey, it's going to be extra hard for you. I mean, who are they going to compare you to? Let's be honest, the goat. Right. So it's going to be extra hard and just as mannerisms, whatever, the way he talks when he does talk. He seems pretty chill, but that's a lot of pressure, man. But if there's anyone, I mean, what did Earl Woods do? Tiger. I mean, you know, talk about making the guy a mentally tough. I don't know if Tiger is that hard on Charlie. I really doubt it, but he probably took the good out of all that mental tough training and told Charlie what it takes. And maybe it just goes out there.
Rory McIlroy Weighs in on Fall Golf
"I don't really care about falling off. I just don't. I can't get into it. I can't get into it. I saw Rory today was asked what they should do about the fog off schedule. Gary Gary Williams asked him that former golf channel great. I love Gary Williams. I think he was the best. He was the MVP of the entire station. Gary Williams asked for Rory. What they should do about the fall golf schedule. And Rory looked at him and said, football. That's it. Football. Rory doesn't like playing golf in the fall. I don't like watching golf in the fall, neither do you, neither does the public. Why play it? Like, the only reason they have to play it now is because they're so many PGA Tour players and with this, these 20 million, $30 million versus they have next year, it's going to be impossible for these kids to come off the corn ferry tour to keep their card with all these elevated events. So yeah, they have to have a ton of playing opportunities. Yeah. It's never going to, with these super with the super duper events, whatever they're calling them, the elevated events. It just means they're just wgc sees they're adding. Basically. They have to have the secondary events. It goes without saying they can't do anything about it.
How Spencer Levine's Game Has Changed With Age
"What I was most impressed with, Steen. Like you're almost 40 years old, okay? And you're going up against these guys. And I mean, I've played a million rounds a few. We hit the same, I am. I am out here by 50 yards by a lot of these guys. Like Paul bars and Paul barjon plays at my club here. And we played together. He's 50 yards by me. And he's right. And he lost his card on the PGA Tour this year. These guys are hitting it 50 by me. I know they're hitting it 50 by you. You had no problem being too back on Saturday. No problem. If you would have made a few more putts, you probably would have been right there on Sunday. But like, yeah, that's a thing. When you get to be almost 40 years old, like you are, and you know you're going to get out driven. You just have to, at some point, you have to middle game these guys. And that's something in your career. Same as me, and we've struggled with, right? Middle game is mental game has been tough because we're so hard on ourselves. You're the same way as me, we're just fucking get mad and whatever. Sure. But how have you chilled out? Like, how have you settled down in your later years? Well, you know, like this week, I think this week in a way, it was just a one week thing, so it was like, you know, or obviously I wanted to be more than that once you get in, you're playing good, you start thinking ahead, like, well, if I can do this, you know, you can go here there, obviously. But since it was a one week thing and you're kind of thinking of it more, I don't know, I felt like more of like, I don't want to say vacation, but I was just like grateful. You know what I'm saying? So that was kind of the mindset for the week. It's not like you've been on the road for 8 weeks, you know, missed a couple cuts, and you're getting bitter. It was like, okay, I got my time to play. So I had a good attitude all week, which was cool. And yeah, with the driving distance dude, yeah, these guys vomit, but dude, I looked at my stats, they're pretty good. I was in the top ten in strokes gained off the tee overall, which was pretty good. I saw I was number one in fairways hit, and then like middle of the pack distance, but like, so I was top ten combined, which is pretty good. You know what I mean? It's not like I was short and then I think the first two days I was number one in green's hit too as well. So like I just hit it really good last week,
President's Cup Was a Snooze Fest
"All right. The president's cup is over. Praise the lord what a snooze fest that was. Kevin kissed her once again proves that he is the greatest partier on the PGA Tour, probably the only person that's ever played professional golf that can hang with John Daly. Kevin kisner and the United States team dominate the international, I think, in my opinion, that the international team was gifted a couple matches in order to get that shit to Sunday. I don't think that that was legit. Like, they could have buried them if they wanted to. They could have buried them alive on Saturday. They chose to drag it out to Sunday. I don't know. I don't know why. I'm not sure. Who cares? I don't know. This all speculation. This is a speculative pod, not a fact based pod anyway. Do you have any kids or the ultimate champion this past week?
No One Can Possibly Be Excited for the President's Cup
"Well, like I'll sell it. I'll sell it for pennies on the dollar, you know, outside the gate, good night. That's my daughter. She's just, she doesn't know what to do about the world of golf. Got context today, by the way, first time at a glasses. Volleyball got hit in the face with glasses, had to switch to context. Anyway, that's sitting there. Yeah, tough adjustment. I'm sitting there and I have this corporate ten or whatever. I'm like, dude, I wasn't live versus PGA Tour for the president's cup. Call it the freaking traders cup. Call it whatever the hell you want to call it. Yes. Yeah, streaming on Pornhub, platinum subscription. I don't give a shit what happens like people are going to tune into this thing like you've never even seen or heard in your entire life. Right. It's going to be tenfold of what it is right now. And I don't even want to discount how good the players are for the international team that are going to end up making it that never would before because they're a lot better than you and I are. However, it's not the same. And then the PGA Tour teams watered down too because they're missing some of their best guys. Right. So if you're listening to this and you're really intrigued about watching the president's cup, you're a free con serial killer. You go around, stocking people, where's the body? Let me know that type of situation. That's basically what's happened. There's no way anyone's excited to watch this. No. And I don't even know what it is. I don't even know what month to sit, I don't know. I only know where it is. That's the thing. I have not kept up with it at all. I don't care. And the problem is, I should care because I have friends. In it, and I don't know where it is. Sam Burns plant. Sam's plan. Yeah. And I have no idea where it is, when it is, no idea. I know that Sam won't even see the 13th pole. He won't even see it. No, like, whoever he's playing doesn't matter. He's like, he's a piece of two shot advantage every time he plays. And speaking of, like, that's a thing. Yeah, I don't even know the captains are. I believe it's Davis love. Is that correct? Is the captain of the stateless love in Trevor implement and I feel horrible because Trevor Owens a nice guy. Trevor Spence, he lost his he lost his best guys. I guess he gets Hideki like, can you clone a decade? Like, I don't know, like who cloned the first sheep. It was at in Scotland, go over to that guy, clone Hideki 11 times before this thing starts, and maybe we'll have ourselves a freaking golf tournament. Well, yeah, maybe. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. No, I said maybe credit to myself for saying maybe. Maybe we would. 11 a decades might have a chance. Possibly, I don't know. With the current team, absolutely 0%, no chance at all. I don't know what the money line is on the United States in that one, but man. It's gotta be it's gotta be minus it's gotta be -900. I'm gonna look. You spend a million put a million on it to make a hundred grand. Like, come on. It's worth it though, 'cause it's a lock. I made that up. Let's see what it really is. It's worth it. It's a lock. But anyway, I mean, that's one of the things though. The golf golf needs this shit to be over with. This squabble. Minded 500. USA's -500. That's it. Oh my God. That's pretty bad. That's pretty bad, honestly, though, because they give you fluff. Like the internationals are plus that moon 50. Match play is a little bit of a carnage shell, like you know that. You can play best fall on both players can be 6 under and you can lose to two guys that shoot 74, but they best fall 7 under, right? However, -500 seems like
Golf Fans Just Want the Best Players to Play
"That's it. End of story, then you don't have to worry about it. I mean, I know he's screwed with Tiger, creating his own tour of the Rory tour whenever people want to call it, but I don't know, man. The thing about Rory is like, still got Greg off ahead of him. It goes without saying, but he's not 21. Right. Or whatever. There's going to be all sorts of people coming up. So like, what's this all going to look like? Their skin probably have to be a marriage in this deal. The rumors on the street this week was John Ron was going. Like people were like popping off. There's a top ten. He's pissed at the rural tour. He doesn't want to play. Everybody thought it was wrong. I guess Ron came out and said fake news, not true. But there's more people are going to go, right? At some point, there's going to be some mergers, so maybe he's playing his cards. Maybe that's the deal. Maybe you talk shit the whole time. They were like, God, we're going to have to really pay this dude to kind of like, you know, come over to the dark side or negotiate or whatever. Who knows? I have no idea what's going to happen, but as a golf fan, I want the best guys playing plane in like mcelroy, what he thinks about the writer cop. I mean, I don't need to be rude, but it's totally irrelevant because the writer cup is run by the PGA of America, not the PGA Tour. And it's run by writer cup Europe, right? They have no say on who's on the American team. So if a couple of the guys make it, who cares? And as an American fan, I want the Americans to win. I'm not a freaking traitor, I want us to have the best team possible. So why wouldn't I want that? So then banning American guys hurts the American team, then banning Euro guys does it really hurt the Euro team at all. That's true. It's a good point. The thing that I really don't understand with all of this is that so you've got Rory you got Rory McIlroy in these guys talking against the live, okay? And you got guys that went to live. And you got PGA Tour players that went to live. And by the way, there are a couple guys on the PGA Tour that are playing this week by our boy, Jimmy walker, who's a friend of the pot, Jimmy walker, a great guy. And he's playing this week at the Leonard fournette championship out there in Napa Valley. And he's only playing because he was 54th in career money. 5 four. And four guys ahead of him went to live on the career money list. So he moved to number 50 and got a one time exemption to use on the PGA Tour, right? Because you get an exemption for top 50 career money, you get an exemption. Is that into everything or how does that happen? That's a full year. That is a full year. So you get a one year full year. If your top 50 career money, you get a one year full year career, you get a one year exemption. So like David toms is used one river. He was talking about that on FTP. Yeah. But there's a top 25 in the top 50. So Jimmy went from 54 to 50, so he had a one time exemption for an entire year and he's using it. This week, we're using it this year. He's playing the entire year, which that's helped a bunch of guys. Which I think is cool. Even though the guys that ended up leaving, obviously, are kicked out and banned forever, but whatever. Well, until they merge, wish they will merge, they will merge. This is ridiculous to not think that the lip tour and the PGA Tour will figure something out. They will. Norman and monaghan will run on the beach together hold hands and bathing suits and the world will be fine and a year probably. But until then, we've got to figure it out. And yeah, the top 50 career money list. That's kind of an interesting deal with all these guys going to live. It's opening more places up on tour for career money. Yeah, I mean, I love Jimmy walker like, I know your boys with Sam and he was on our parties and FTP guy and every time I look at his Instagram, he's like, here's this new grill. Here's the steak, reverse Sierra, like garlic butter, like I don't give a fuck. I wouldn't even know he was a golfer. I thought he was like the guy that does the sprinkles the salt. Yeah, I thought he was like the white southern Texas guy version of the guy that does that. But all of a sudden, I see pictures of him in 7 irons. He's like, here's my 7 iron swing and I was like, who gives a fuck? I was like, well, now I know why, because he's top 50 and he's practicing now. He's in an internment. He thought he was going to play nothing. Jimmy would Jimmy would Jimmy would probably agree. And I was like, well shit, now we gotta look at 700 swings instead of how to cook a delicious steak, but I'm here for, I'm here for regardless. I can't handle 7 iron and I can't cook a great steak, so. Yeah, there we are. So how many events did you play when you're in your year on the PGA Tour? Probably 30. You can play over 30 in one year. Did I
How Scott Stallings Became a 'Nobull' Athlete
"I got a question from a guy named Timothy Dobbs. It sounds like he personally. But he wants to know how you became a noble athlete. I became a noble athlete through a friend of mine named Matt O'Keefe. Pretty involved in the fitness industry and all these different things. And he invited me up to New England before the Boston event, the first playoff event. And played with Todd from noble and got a chance to meet some of the crew and just kind of get a sense of who I was kind of on and off the golf course and how to involve training and different aspects of that kind of through all my life. Whether I was on the grass or in the gym and kind of developed into a relationship and kind of a conversation of how to go from just like a name and likeness to next thing you know it's like maybe we're going to do golf shoe. We're going to do head to toe and noble is going to be a partner in the tour and it just escalated very quickly and anything they put their name on and they take very seriously and it was an honor to kind of bring something that kind of had a huge interest in mind just in the fitness world and be able to bring it into the world of golf and kind of be a brand ambassador for them in the first got to kind of help them break through on the world of golf and the PGA Tour and it's been really cool and a learning experience for sure starting with a new brand and something that they've never really dealt with. A lot of challenges and a lot of cool opportunities that kind of came along with it and I'm proud to represent them both in the gym and on the golf course.
How Joel Dahmen Sees His Future in Golf
"What's your number? What's your, like, boo weekly always said, if you won 10 million bucks, you'd hang it up or tire. Obviously that didn't happen. You made way more than that. Blah, blah, Watson. Bubba Watson said if he won ten times on the PGA Tour he'd hang it up. He's won like 13th. So and two majors, yeah. I don't know if I have a direct number. More have more of a timeline. So I'm 34. I'll be 35 this fall. I think if I can play 15 years on tour, I would give me to basically 45 allow hopefully two kids by then that are kind of in grade school and I want to be their tee ball coach, who want to be basketball coach, I want to be around. My parents were great. They were always around for me. But if I can't live off of that, then I got probably bigger issues in my life. So I just think the other, like you said, you made a good point. There are people that play for legacy that play for whole thing, that major is like, that's just not one. I know, I know what my level is and it's not that top 20 levels. So I'm just going to, honestly, I'm playing out mostly fear of having a job. And so I'm just going to keep trying hard and keep going until I can stack it all up and not have to worry about it really on the back end. I'd love to play champions to where smaller champions are right at my ally. Like, you hang out with your buddies, three, three days a week, sounds like the live a little bit, but I don't really want to go there. So I just want to see kind of how long I can make this thing last, and I believe I have 5 really good years left in me. And then after that, if I could just hang on for dear life and with the purses increased all up on jazz, I'd like to. Kind of just see where this goes.
"pga tour" Discussed on The Dan Patrick Show
"Twitter handle at DP show. Rory McIlroy wins the FedExCup and the live tour adding more golfers as I told you I was given a heads up last week. Probably going to be close to 7 golfers joining the live tour, not necessarily big names. I don't know how they're squeezing them all in because it felt like it was a limited field. There's no cuts and you're playing 54 holes, but I know the cam Smith was the big headliner there, but after the FedExCup, I was told that there was not going to be a mass exodus, but there was going to be probably 5 to 7 golfers joining. PGA tours doing the best it can to defend itself against the live tour. And yesterday, that's the best defense. Rory McIlroy, this was the summer of Rory McIlroy. We may look back in 5 years and go, boy, that's when Rory became the face of the PGA Tour. And he walked the walk, talked the talk, but beat number one player in the world, Scottie scheffler, took $18 million home in the first place price. I will say I thought that NBC and peacock wanted to remind you maybe a little too often of how much money that they're going to make because it feels like now it's all about how much money you make or you're not making with the live tour and PGA Tour. But the live tour can offer the most money here, but it still comes down to does the golf matter to me. I may miss out on seeing Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, but I still want to see great golf when it means something. And you had that yesterday. Just from an entertainment and a competitor competitive stance and view, I want to see great players. And this is what's going to happen. Okay, Brooks Koepka is on the live tour. Gone, but not forgotten. Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, but the PGA Tour is almost like ESPN.
JJ & JP Talk Best Golf Investments With David Toms
"We've talked about investments like golf investments and we've talked about some business side of golf and all that on the FTP here. And I've brought up a couple of investments that I got in because of the guys I was playing in pro ams with. And I think I really do think the PGA Tour makes you a better businessman because you get to meet all these high powered CEOs and you have their phone numbers and email addresses you can call them and no one else can, they love golf, all of them love golf. So but one of the deals I got in was just a private equity deal and I was like, hey, you know, would you want to get into this deal? And I didn't do nothing about deals, just like 24 years old. This was ten year ten years. And so I threw a little money at it, and then they exited the deal. Last year, on a four X multiple. You know, and do you have any do you have anything like that? I'm sure you have a bunch of stuff like that that you could recall on over the last 30 years. But is there one that stands out where you had a relationship that you made at a pro am and it turned into something pretty lucrative for you? Well, yeah, I mean, a lot of the I can show you all the logos and my shirts and hats and everything else, but a lot of that comes from relationships of people that you meet along the way. And certainly, you know, I've always looked at it, hey, you know, they love God. But if you ask them about themselves and let them start talking about what they do, to me, that's a lot more interesting. Some of the people that we meet a lot of what they do and you're talking about, as far as investment stuff, I mean, I'm in one right now that I've met through a guy three or four years ago that just sent on outing in Mississippi and I started taking a look at what he did and started reading about it and, you know, I mean, I think I bought it at about 56. It's up at 86 right now and doing well.
Unpacking Changes in the Golf Sponsorship Landscape With David Toms
"When I turn professional and even when I was first on the PGA Tour rookie, I had sponsors. I'm not talking like endorsement sponsors. I'm talking a group of people that put money together, so I was able to go play golf. And so now you have a situation where if you have a tour card, you don't have to have that. I mean, you have all the all the money that you need to go out there and take the pressure off and perform and pay who you need to pay to help you get to where you need to get as a player. Pay per expenses and have some security for your family. I mean, you still got to go out and play well and prove that you deserve to be there for long period of time. But you don't have to worry about the financial part of it and how do you pay how do you pay your caddy? How do you pay your credit card to bill for the month and those things? And how do you travel around that, you know, I think it makes a lot of sense. I mean, it gets you up there with guaranteed contracts and other sports and what minimum put minimums look like and here you make it to the highest level of your sport. And you certainly shouldn't have to go get a loan at the bank to help you pay your way to be able to play every week.
David Toms Describes the Champions Tour Retirement Plan
"I know that the champions tour got affected with the Liv golfer with the alls retirement. I was talking to Scott mccarran about that. And he said, I'm not sure the specifics you can help me on this one, but something happened with the retirement, where they canceled it for the champion store. What was that? Yeah, well, I mean, part of that was during this COVID time that everybody wants to call it. I guess that's what it was, but they we had about an $8 million contribution from the tour every year to the champions tour retirement. And they took that out for a year. Back two years ago, so two seasons ago, we did not have a champions tour retirement plan. They took away the contribution. Last year, we had it funded at about a 25% level from what it was before COVID. Wow. And now this year, they've put it back to $10 million, which is more than it's been since I was joined the champions tour. So whatever we asked for, we had a player meeting with the commissioner with monaghan and I wasn't actually there. I didn't play that week at the meeting was, but they told us that they thought it went really well and everyone voiced their opinion. And then amazingly, this year we got $10 million contribution to the PGA Tour champions retirement plan. So that all helps. You think everybody out here has made a ton of money over their career, but that's not necessarily so. I mean, you have a lot of guys that, you know, before a little bit before my time, that are out here playing that the person weren't worth they are even when I was playing. And so they didn't make as much money. And now they got put all their kids through college and now they have grandkids, maybe about to go to college and, you know, it's a big deal.
The Nasty Sting in Nike's Sponsorship Bonuses
"This is a fun fact about Nike that I had no idea about until a couple of years ago. Yeah, their bonuses are massive. Huge, best, best. Rest of apparel company and all the PGA Tour, but if you backtrack, say you're say your bonus for the years, a $1 million if you finish inside the top 50, all right? In the world. And you go to like 75 for each spot that you lose, you have to pay it back. Really? I don't believe that. That's true. It's true. I was told that by an Asian. By actually my old agent, told me that. So isn't that crazy? They're the only people that do that. So that's why they pay so much money is because if you backtrack, you owe it back to them. Not the whole thing, but a percentage. Of your big bonus, you owe it back to them. So it's kind of keeps those guys honest to a point. But yeah, I mean, you can obviously if you play well, you're gonna kick ass and make a shitload of money. So you don't worry about it, but if you backtrack, you pay back.
Explaining How the PGA Tour Playoff Retirement Funds Work
"The way that I think what most people don't understand, now it's different, but when I was playing, when you made the PGA Tour playoffs, you, if you finished topple in 25, no, it was actually top one 50. If you finished top one 50, you got a cash notice and you could elect to have it in cash or you could have it elected to your retirement. And that was 7 years ago. But 7 years ago, I finished like a hundredth in the FedExCup, I don't remember. 95th or a hundred, whatever. And I elected to have it all in the retirement. And I didn't even know what the bonus prize money would be from FedEx and their Saudi guys, but it was like a $100,000. And I didn't I never saw it, but now that I'm done and you have to give the PGA Tour a year. So you have to give the PGA Tour a year from when you're done, then the next time the calendar year rolls around, you get your everything, they just pay out everything to you. It doesn't matter if you're 25, 55, whatever. So I told them last year, I was like, hey, look, I'm done, I'm not playing anymore. Send me my shit next year. So that was 7 years ago. That was the only time I made the playoffs. They're sending me like $300,000. I don't even know. It was added on. So, well shit. FedExCup. Yeah, so credit to the FedEx and their Saudi ties for having all that money in the FedExCup. But my point of this is these guys that make it to this tour championship. Yeah, sure. You look at the cash that they're going to make this huge, but what's not shown is the retirement money, dude. The retirement money is huge if you make it to the tour championship. I mean, even if you just make it to the playoffs, period, but I felt like we had to cover that because that's something that the normal golf fan, the people that are listening to for the people in a weekly basis just don't know.
Cam Smith Takes a Week Off After Day-After Penalty LIV Punishment
"I think that I think cave Smith has already gone to live for one. I think the whole two shot penalty called in after the fact, 24 hours later, you know, most 99% of the guys at the PGA Tour, they let that slide, but because it was him and he's going, they called it on him. For sure. I mean, yeah, he probably did play it from the wrong spot, but golf's a gentleman's game, right? You don't always have perfect ruling, you don't always have black and white rules. There's a lot of gray area in some of these deals. And I've gotten away with some like you've gotten away with some of these rulings, you call for a different rules official sometimes because you don't like their opinion. That happens all the time. So there's no black and white, but anyway, I believe he's gone period, but for him to skip a week. It's just strange with back pain or whatever, then Willie Z pulls out after winning with back pain and pulled out of a tournament ever. With any pain, so it's just a bizarre bizarre week.
Tom Weiskopf, major champion and golf course architect, dies

"They wouldn't be able to get in anyways, be like, I don't know who, you know, it's almost like if you're because you're not gonna be high enough on, you know, because the masters does have their criteria of top 50 and whatever it is. If you're not top 50 in the world, you didn't finish top ten in the FedExCup or whatever because you clearly didn't even play. You didn't win a PGA Tour event the last year because you don't play on the PGA Tour. Then you don't qualify anyway. So it's gonna be fucking tricky. I think that these guys are for now signing up to not ever play on the PGA Tour again and to not play in the masters and potentially the PGA Championship going forward, but I also think, I mean, they're going to file. It sounds like they're going to file Liv's going to file a lawsuit this week. Against PGA Tour. And against, you know, official world golf ranking situation that they're convinced, I think the live is convinced that their players are going to be able to play in the FedExCup playoffs, which I mean, that's gotten so real that that belief that Davis loved the third just came out and said, I was just looking like if the lift golfers are allowed to play on the PGA Tour again, we are going to boycott the president. It's got we're not going to play the president's cup. To the point yeah, he was like, we just want and then if we're forced to throw even allowed to play, by the way, he was like, by the FTC in Washington, he just kind of made these like crazy kind of like claims at it. We're just not going to play the president's call. He said, it was one of the crazy press conferences of all 5. Yeah, it's unbelievable. I mean, that's insane. I mean, how much of the world would burn? If Olivia won the FedEx, and then just won all that money. And then just goes back to live and just continues to win that money. Like, I don't know how the PGA Tour players accept that. This guy's making all the documents. All the dollars we have available for the whole game, the whole sport, like the old Tom Morris sport, he just won it all. He won all the time. Everybody else just has to live out sponsorship dollars. It's like you just can't win anything. Up to this point, I've been a PGA Tour guy, unlike Frankie and not a live guy, but I would say if that happened, I'm rooting for that to happen more than anything. I mean, the chaos from that. Nobody golf would just elevate into the stratosphere. Everybody would. The storyline guy told you great. I felt the same thing when COVID started. I told you guys this, like, a long time ago, like that first week, you're like, wow, businesses are closing. You're like, holy shit. This is fucking different. This is where were you moment? At this point, we haven't gotten to the point where when COVID was like, holy shit, this is gonna be two years. Like, this is the worst thing that's ever happened in our lifetime. People are dying. This is insane. I haven't felt that with Liv yet. It hasn't ruined golf for me yet. I'm still at the point where things are really interesting. I haven't felt affected that it's ruined the game for me yet. So yeah, if there's a lawsuit and we start seeing Roger Clemens type like, if they're at like the hell, like arguing. Rafael palmero, like fucking wagging their finger and that's gonna be fucking insane.

And be like, I <Speech_Male> mean, <Speech_Male> are you worth <Speech_Male> being a coach? <Speech_Male> Do you know <Speech_Male> what's going on with these <Speech_Music_Male> things? <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> I know <Speech_Male> a Butch. <Speech_Male> Do you have any idea what you're doing? <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> Where's <Speech_Male> this ball go? <Speech_Male> I know that it is a <Speech_Male> showed me 5 swings <Speech_Male> I'd go over 5. <Speech_Male> Correct. <Speech_Male> Show <Speech_Male> JT, you think John <Speech_Male> tiller is up for this challenge? <Speech_Male> Yes. <Speech_Male> How good <Speech_Male> are you at no one <Speech_Male> exactly what's wrong <Speech_Male> with the golf swing that <Speech_Male> you could watch a guy in <Speech_Male> slow motion head on, <Speech_Male> make contact <Speech_Male> with the ball, <SpeakerChange> follow <Speech_Male> through and know exactly where it <Speech_Male> went. Also, <Speech_Male> it has to be a pro, <Speech_Male> too, because <Speech_Male> if you have one of our <Speech_Male> swings, they're just so <Speech_Male> painfully obvious. <Speech_Male> It's like <Speech_Male> he couldn't <Speech_Male> hit it left if he tried <Speech_Male> based on setup. <Speech_Male> But like <Speech_Male> a Rory, <Speech_Male> can you really <Speech_Male> tell like <Speech_Male> that minute detail <Speech_Male> of like <Speech_Male> a high <SpeakerChange> push versus <Silence> a Hydra? <Speech_Male> No way. <Speech_Music_Male> No way, dude. <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> Off the off the <Speech_Male> contact. It's <Speech_Male> gotta be the same <Speech_Male> shit. <Speech_Male> Right. <SpeakerChange> I know. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Somewhere in <Speech_Male> the downswing that <Speech_Male> made it go from its apex <Speech_Male> left <SpeakerChange> to its apex <Speech_Male> right. This <Speech_Male> guy is something <Speech_Male> so. <Speech_Male> And did they get <Speech_Male> slo-mo or <Speech_Male> is it just like <Speech_Male> they <Speech_Male> can slow motion? Slo-mo for <Speech_Male> sure. <Speech_Male> Now <Speech_Male> I'm starting to <SpeakerChange> think I <Speech_Music_Male> might have a chance. <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> Dude, you're gonna see, <Speech_Male> you're gonna see the ball <Speech_Male> come off the club <Speech_Male> face for yard. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> Dude, <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> and I'm not gonna <Speech_Male> put it on JT <Speech_Male> that he's gonna do <Speech_Male> it and that he would be <Speech_Male> fantastic at it, but <Speech_Male> what I do know <Speech_Male> is that that guy <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> is <Speech_Male> obsessed <Speech_Male> with golf swings. <Speech_Male> He calls himself <Speech_Male> a swing junkie, <Speech_Male> all he does is watch <Speech_Male> golf swings. All <Speech_Male> he's done, he <Speech_Male> talked about it <Silence> like even <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> when he was still <Silence> playing, and even <SpeakerChange> when he was <Speech_Male> like pretty <Speech_Male> young, he <Speech_Male> was like, I just <Speech_Male> loved watching <Speech_Male> swings. Like I brought <Speech_Male> up Tiger 'cause when <Speech_Male> I was down there, <Speech_Male> it was when <Speech_Male> Tiger had been spotted <Speech_Male> at southern hills. And I <Speech_Male> was like, oh, this is pretty crazy. <Speech_Male> People are going nuts, <Speech_Male> tigers, it's southern hill. <Speech_Male> And he was <Speech_Male> just like ready <Speech_Male> to talk about, <Speech_Male> oh, I can see the <Speech_Male> difference in the Tiger swing now <Speech_Male> that most people can't <Speech_Male> see that like <Speech_Male> what's making it, <Speech_Male> how he's making <Speech_Male> it work the way that he is. <Speech_Male> So like <Speech_Male> guys like that, <Speech_Male> I'm sure there's guys <Speech_Male> who are just like <Speech_Male> that who do <Speech_Male> TV who are just out in <Speech_Male> the world who <Speech_Male> are obsessed with <Speech_Male> the golf swing <SpeakerChange> and <Speech_Male> they can tell little <Speech_Male> <Advertisement> parts of it <Speech_Male> that make <SpeakerChange> a difference <Speech_Male> on where the ball goes. <Speech_Male> Speaking of that Tiger <Speech_Male> Woods joke every time someone <Silence> says Tiger, I say Woods, <Speech_Male> this <Speech_Male> happened to me in real life <Speech_Male> the other day I <Speech_Male> heard this in <Speech_Male> conversation and I <Speech_Male> had to call the guy out <Speech_Male> and be like, what the fuck <Speech_Male> was that? <Speech_Male> We're at my buddy. You know the <Speech_Male> Guido torpedo. He <Speech_Male> was the fucking <Speech_Male> police officer for <Speech_Male> Tiger Woods <Speech_Male> at bethpage <Speech_Male> state park when we <Speech_Male> were there for the PJ championship <Speech_Male> and then also <Speech_Male> was there <Speech_Male> at wing foot and <Speech_Male> was like giving us all this <Speech_Male> inside information about where <Speech_Male> Tiger was going to be when <Speech_Male> he wasn't going to be <Silence> blah blah blah blah blah. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> So <Speech_Male> torpedo's house the other <Speech_Male> day and he's <Speech_Male> like, it's my first time <Speech_Male> going there

"With like marketing and with new entities coming through and like plugging it and their system might be like, no, we're not gonna necessarily see every single dollar from $375 million in return, but like we're making a ton of money, we gotta do something with it and the way that you do something with it is like make sure that you get news and a big name that comes in there and like you constantly drive some sort of interest and intrigue to it even if it doesn't technically like, well we run every dollar and we don't need to do that. It's like, well, really that's just kind of playing the game the right way and making sure that you're kind of like making the right moves and also maybe it might be a risk of like what if somebody else gets them. And it's not like the football bubble is gonna pop in America. That's not you know what I mean. So it's the money's gonna take too much money. It's too much money. Charles Barkley doesn't even come close to making this much money. It's just a massive hedge. Like that's just a huge dollar figure. Like, you're talking about like tea times and staying. I know we're talking about wildly different things. I'm just trying to but it's just it's just a mass and I think that is the point. The point that you made is the right one. It just feels like this wild hedge on Tom Brady will be like saving Fox football. Like what the fuck? I mean, you're talking about $40 million a year. I'm sure with like bonuses and all the other crap that might go into it. It's like has he agreed to this or is it like a contract that has been offered to him? I think he took it. I think he agreed to it. Has did Fox lose someone recently that I'm just forget like did Fox lose an analyst that like everyone's gonna miss or something? It's almost like in Formula One when like they just announced that a different driver is gonna be one of their drivers the following year. And then one of their two drivers is like, I mean, that's like my car. That's what am I gonna drive next year? I think it's like that, sort of they're just saying like, hey, I know when he's done, he's just coming here for 375 million and whoever's currently there is probably just sitting there today. See you later for writing. It's truthfully the writing is on the wall, like this one's over. You guys aren't gonna believe how much Charles Barkley makes as a TNT announcer. I'm gonna say he makes $10 million a year. Now I'm gonna say 50. A year? 10 million a year. I'm gonna say he makes like 7 a year. 1.5. What? He's gonna renew. I mean, he's right, the first thing that I read when I looked it up, it said, NBA legend Charles Barkley quote cheated out of a $100 million. So it's something with like the deal or his agent, something happened there. But one and a half million for Charles Barkley is whoo. I mean, he should be making ten times that. Right. She's amazing. Stunning number. It's a stunning number. I think Frank, I think I said this to you one time. I think he might be the number one sports personality of all time..

"Football opinions of Tom Brady on Fox. Then it's like, oh, maybe this is actually a steal. I think at 37 and a half $1 million a year, there isn't a performance that he can put on on television that it ends up being an awesome deal for funding. They crunched the numbers and they figured out that it was fucking worth it. Whether they're adding $40 million in advertising just by having Tom Brady in the booth, then that's the answer. I mean, they crunched the fucking numbers and he's worth that money. They're not dumb. No, well, maybe. I'd also argue that a large portion of the country hates Tom Brady. What do you think? Would you say it's a large portion? I don't think so. Maybe not anymore. That was certainly true when the Patriots were dominant. I was more true before he, for whatever reason. I had to think almost makes him winning didn't he just gain the respect of everyone, maybe in the early days it was like the Belichick Brady versus everybody and now then it just became like how many can these guys win? I mean, even as a Jets fan at some point you had to just bow to your master and just be like, you just are the greatest thing we've ever seen ever. Yeah, there's certainly a degree of that, I guess, that, yeah, it was the Tom Brady hatred was more like the undefeated patriots team until they lost the Super Bowl. There's people out there that lived their lives hating Michael Jordan. It's just such a, it's an unfortunate life to live because if you're just, I don't know, the pacers fan or like a Detroit Pistons fan or it's just it's tough to like hate that. People legitimately, I don't know. Dude, Michael Jordan was a hockey player for the New York rangers. You would hate Michael Jordan. Well, he'd be an unsuccessful way too highly touted. Absolutely fucking nobody guy like Kendrick lockwood. And you got nothing in his career. And you got to remember that when these guys are so dominant and I think I agree with what you're saying, Frankie, I take back that a large portion of the country hates Tom Brady. But he is these guys are beating. We make data graphic, by the way, Jake. This is a large portion of the country hates Tom Brady. No, come on, don't do that in me. I think that was true at some point, but it's not true anymore. Yeah, I don't even know what he would do to me. We'll take her to me. I'd be like, I want to slap my asshole and be like, Frankie wants to slap his ass all on today's foreplay podcast. Please don't put that on. You know, I think the point too of like, this is just what you do in that business and clearly their market has figured it out is probably what's right. It makes me think of like when, you know, when band and dunes will like give us free lodging and give us a couple free rounds of golf 'cause we're gonna like promote the we're like do you just ban a dunes need us to promote their bandit they don't need us to promote it, but it's like you gotta stay relevant. You gotta keep like that's part of the system is like make sure people are still kind of talking about your spot. Make sure people are still kind of interested in like your spot. Make sure you're still throwing some videos out there and throwing some pictures out there because even though things are great right now even though we're booked up for two years like we constantly need to make sure we're playing the.

"Just when Wayne Gretzky talked about rangers goal game one should account it. He did say that. When he also said that he couldn't take it right over. He also said Wayne Gretzky himself is the reason why I got into such a damn argument with people 5 years ago when I said he couldn't make it NHL roster nowadays. He's the one that said that also. So and everyone said, oh, he's just being humble he's stupid he doesn't really say his words right. Is Gretzky getting paid the hockey equivalent of $37 million a year. He's getting paid like 500 grand. No, he's making some cash. He's doing well, but he's not making a fraction of that time. No, and he's not, but also NHL plays it pays its best players 8 million. That's what I mean. That's what I mean when I say the hockey equivalent. So like when it's like 3 million a year for a show that never existed before when the best player in the league. Cindy Crosby makes 8.7 million. So it's like, come on. Football ten times bigger than hockey. I'd have to argue, that's about right, right? I don't know. She's making 3 million a year. I think that's pretty high. That's a good amount of money. For sure, it never existed. They have four guys on that show. 5 guys on the show, yeah, I don't know, it's fucking, it's a lot of money. But the NFL makes so much fun. But it's not the NFL we're talking about. We're talking about Fox. Yeah, so but the NFL makes so much money for everything that Fox then can charge however many dollars for all the advertisers. They're not showing the fucking dog show. They're showing NFL. That's where they're making their catch. There could also be something to do at about like the TV deals. And like maybe timing wise like Fox could get more because more people are watching because of Tom Brady. That three 75 could be like an investment towards a new television rights. But you just said more people are watching because of Tom Brady. And also, but also Amazon. And Amazon's like coming in soon. So like maybe they're trying to stick it to be like, all right, maybe build ourselves watching CBS to go to Amazon. Why not watch Fox? Show me what this looks like in year 6 is what I want to know. Are they trying to get people away from red zone? Are they trying to get people to because I'm wondering thought that just popped into your brain? It's like, where are they trying to kill these viewers? Are they trying to be competitive against these other? Is that what they're doing here? It's just like that. Let's make people sit here and watch a full game so that they can hear all of Tom Brady, the greatest quarterback of all time, arguably the greatest athlete of all time, just talk about our sport. And they're just gonna watch Fox all game instead of flip over to the red zone channel two 14 or whatever it is and they're just gonna watch all little snippets of the games and not care about his announcing him. I don't know. Like is there any scenario where he's so good that this becomes a steal? I would argue probably not. Like, that's almost how you can judge a deal too, right? Like, if it's, if it wasn't 37 million, if it was 10 million, and even people then were like, holy shit, that's a lot of money, but then he comes in and he is just the best football analyst and people have to hear.

"I mean, I might as well just fucking light it on fire. I've been on a train. And then when it's two. Now, now you've got Scottie scheffler where it's like, well, obviously. Yeah, there's too much, there's too much good information out there right now to not bet on Scottie. How often do you get a well obviously betting off? You don't. And that's why we don't I would argue that's why we didn't bet it before. Because it's like, there are no well, obviously, in golf. Are there odds either this right now? But he's just as close as you can get right now. The guy's literally shocking people with the way he's playing the game. No, he's probably not right. I'm looking right now. I think he is, but I'm okay. So while alert pulls that up, I'm gonna rattle off Scotty schaffer's most recent finishes on the PGA Tour playing professional golf in case people were not familiar. The Waste Management Phoenix open first place. Genesis invitational tied for 7th Arnold Palmer invitational, presented by Mastercard. First place, players championship, T 55, world golf championship match play, first place, masters tournament, first place. Zürich classic of New Orleans, which is a team event tied for 18th. So he is still at that part where I believe he's won four of his last 6 starts in individual competitions. And now he's going into southern hills where the assistant pro, double H guy is saying, I just don't see how he doesn't win. Is in contention. I mean, we got to take this fucking guy. We got to take this guy. All right, I agree. But if I were to ask you, which I am going to now, we're going to bet him, but do you think he's going to win? Of course I don't think he's going to win. It's a numbers game. I mean, I see I'm with you. Totally with it. The other guys, you can't win every week. I mean, you got to take the field. John rom is currently the favorite at plus 1100. But also not in, 'cause you just won. JT scheffler and Rory are all plus 1200. So pretty much kind of a tie for the top. So he's in the mix, but it is crazy that he's just not the number one guy. It's really, it's befuddling. So I've got him on here. Oh, that's the AT&T Byron Nelson. He's a favorite of the AT&T Byron Nelson. Tell you that much. That's exciting. Go. Yeah, I mean, look, this man is clearly playing great golf. It's nice to hear that he's still playing great golf. It's always cool when you get these assistant pros and all that. I wonder if use golf facts is going to have an issue with these comments coming out, feels like somebody could have pride information out of these assistant pro at southern hills to get some information going into the tournament, which obviously he or she that runs that account doesn't like..

"Average birdie rates in the world kyle calorie probably one of the most electric players when it comes to that position but also. Why hasn't scotty warn yet. Has collar murray filled out every expectation terms of victories. Both these guys are wickedly talented and you could totally see them in the future winning a super bowl winning a major. The haven't won a ton to this point but they both fill it up but also they both kind are like wait. Are they going to be at the top of the game forever. There are some questions and some answers with both of these guys. I like that especially because it really gets into the tricky tricky world of comparing like the skills of golf and how they cross over the skills of football like imagining scottish chef for doing any sort of the cuyler murray super speed cutbacks that we were seeing yesterday on the field. I mean he. He's is he the fastest quarterback. He's he's right up there i think. So i mean you're like zips around so yet it's not it's not. We're not saying that they could do the same things in any way but the equivalent in their respective sports highlight that i think that's also. He's a bit of a scrambler like he doesn't necessarily hit it straight but got some scrambled to his game. He's a little unconventional. you know. he's got the foot slip out. You know he doesn't exactly look completely put together at all times. I mean kyle actually looks put together and looks great all the time but his style of play he scrambling around a bunch. "The reasoning here. Basically you know we've got two young studs that seem to basically have life handled on and off the course. There's a fair amount balanced there. There's a real sense that neither guy's gonna say the wrong thing mahomes definitely seems like he's having a little bit more fun than morokawa but they've both found success really early on and they both have the ability to really do something that do something better than everyone else in. Their respective field can do morikawa. It's his iron play mahomes. It's just ability to get on the run. Throw on the ron escape. And then just pull off these like seventy yard bombs at a nowhere. So that's where. I want to start good combat comp okay. I think it's a fine comp. I don't think it's the right com for mahomes. I think for mahomes. It's a little more obvious you. You're not totally wrong. You got to adidas guys. You've spent time around both of them. I guess i was. Maybe your wing man for for those interactions to like their demeanor is very similar. But i think the proper mahomes comp is. it's obvious it's the number one player in the world. It's jon rahm. I think when. I when i when i look at these guys. I think they're both so good that even when they're not so good like their level their floor. It's still better than almost everyone else in the world. They do it in different ways. It's not like mahomes is only just like fifteen games with fifty attempts hill. I guess maybe this is more of a thing about the chiefs but the chiefs can beat. You know all kinds of different ways and mahomes is kind of like the center of the wheel and all of those ways it feels like when rahm buried two bombs at torrey pines to come from behind win the us open mahomes that got it kind of would feel like mahomes. Like fifty yard touchdown pass kind of like key through to terry kill yesterday. It feels like they win in different ways. They're both every single season. Going to be like mvp candidates from day one Probably both should have more titles than they currently have. You can make that argument from a homes. Despite the fact that he'll probably win this year. Jon rahm probably win a major in the next couple of years So i'm more right than you are about rahm being the homes comp or are you more right than i am i. It's hard to pick against myself but yeah yours. Yours stands up pretty good. It's so easy for us to look at the world gulf rankings and then to look at the best football player probably be well ranking says right. Yeah just like these guys are the same Let's move on. Here's another one that i similar to you. Not quite sure that. I've mailed but it was the first thing that came to mind when i pulled up. Espn dot com. It's i saw photo of cuyler. Murray zona quarterback and i thought you know what he's a lot like scottish shuffler. Hopefully people don't log off on this podcast but basically my take is that both of these guys seem really good. They both light it up and they both might be great..

"Good morning ladies and gentlemen. He is dealing. I'm sean. this is the drop zone and we don't have a lot of professional gulf to talk about. Pj to or had an off week. The european tour had on week. Even though a pga tour player won the tournament billy horseshoe wins the bmw pga. We got two ryder cup. Teams filled out euros. They they added three wildcard. Picks two captain's picks whatever. You wanna call them. Padraig harrington selected the old guard in addition to shane lower he selected sergio garcia and ian poulter. Justin rose on the outside looking in dylan before we jump into what we're really talking about today. Tell me is padraig right wrong. Middle ground what. What did he do with these picks. First of all sean. I hope you enjoyed your pga tour off week because that was actually the off season. That was the whole deal. that's it. i hope you feel rested up. Yeah as far as as far as padraig harrington there will come a day when this recipe doesn't work where taking some combination of you know. British forty three year olds is no longer optimal strategy. But we're not at that point yet today. Today's not this day so yeah he did the right thing he did the right thing. Justin rose been planned a little bit better. They probably could have you know happily had him on the team You know. I don't know if if burned vs burger could feel tangibly that most of team europe was rooting against him. But you know hopefully not is that true or is that some kind of weird thing because when you follow gulf twitter it sounds like everyone was against burns burger being on the team. Why why why would that be. The guy is clearly good enough to be in the discussion. Does justin rose to be on this team that badly. I think it's because they wanna they just like getting the band back together. They really they really just like that main squad and they want their sort of starting with the team and then hoping that the team fits into this. The point system you know. Yeah but you know what's going to work out. The fact that burns burger will not play the first the first Set of matches guarantee it right now. He will not be out there. He just won't be and that's okay. Like remember their twelve people on these teams and eight of them. Play at any given moment. And there's a lot of jockeying for okay. You need to get ready for the afternoon. Like people forget that. Chris would who automatically qualified for the the hazeltine european ryder cup team. Two thousand sixteen. He played two matches the entire ryder cup. He did not play on friday all. He played saturday morning and he played the sunday singles and the europeans like main horses are really really good and i think this is actually kind of a good thing for them. They don't have to rely on getting all twelve guys out there for two matches before the sunday singles. I've argued this with you..

"In that regard so i don't think it's a real true test of what people actually think might happen. But i think you're getting a lot of people kind of playing off what they might already have in the bank and trying to ensure themselves a profit or people people starting to throw more at the consummate is now we get into the into the end of this guy. You know. it's pretty much a tampa race. I guess right now and then the montreal guys would fall in behind it. Yeah i think so. I think there's a push for for carry price to have the john sebastian gear situation. Even if they do come up short you know that kucherov vasilevskiy bring point. I shouldn't talk about the conn. Smythe because i was i was touting marc andre fleury going into the last round and things kind of went off the wrist for himself and the team so yeah i certainly conversation. That's coming up. I don't know how many odds will be actually available on. It has become down the stretch. Just because you know we're so close and generally when when it gets like that the kind of take the odds away but yeah i think I think there's a. There's a lot of chitchat about their about essentially losing goalie even winning this year right gercy else. We should be looking forward to this week and cool the dots. He'll yeah well. I mean the calendar just marches on right and again. It's it's kind of things that we don't put a ton of focus on here. In north america. Although wimbledon did get underway. Yesterday the tour de france is on the go. Something may be before we talk again that you might be surprised gets a ton of banning action. The nathan's hot dog eating contest on july fourth. In in the us that garner's a ton of betting action. For whatever reason it's one of these things that's been created bit of a stir over the years and there is nothing grocer watch shrill leads right now. The water shovel it in like watchet nobel. We've offered we've offered odds on it in the past and i've worked at other places editorials on it and i'm like you're gonna have to tell me the results because i am not watching house. How many okay. Let's just do a quick poll here. I think now the bond or is it just the dog. No the bond to get sketchy. I'm pretty confident. In saying i believe i can eat ten ten dogs with.

"You would wanna just you would want to hunt that guy down like the 'cause he's another guy always he's always it your in your face drooping away. He's fast and he's strong and he's a good player. Well and and look. We'll wrap up game one with this. I thought josh anderson was really engaged for the montreal canadians. But it feels like if that's going to be real main ingredient of the tampa bay lightning defending their stanley cup championship. Dot third line the only way to combat that neutralize it. If josh anderson continues to play the way he played in one debt right. Yeah that feels like the only way all right. You're yom performance players. In the past week nekuda cookie to kucherov according to rape ferraro and going with his line made brayden point with a big game in the opening game of the stanley cup. Final all right. Our interview in this episode is with mackenzie hughes. It is brought to you by house. A canadian club whisky you are asking. Are you over beer. Why not try a refreshing cc. Ginger ale with lime. next time. you're having a drink. We'll watch you know rates not often the least three away from the hockey right. I mean we got it was staying early and we should. We stay in our lane on occasion. We'll talk about other sports because you know your way more opinionated i. You've got strong opinion on so many things but In this case one thing that we both have the passion for the sport a golf so proud bringing ganzi hughes who is rate canadian has added a terrific amount. A success on the tour this year including well a run at the us. Open max where you had every canadian golf on the edge of their skied. Through three rounds. Anyway and a good portion of the fourth and final round as well coming out of the travelers here in connecticut. Where you're joining us. Thank you for that. It's been a heck of a year. Mackenzie hughes does it feel that way to you. A happy with a large majority of my season. I think given the length of golf season. And what we go through on a yearly basis. I think it's national that you're gonna go through some some periods very not happy and go through many slumps and just like my leafs. You know there's points in the season where thought older the down and slide decorate back up. So yeah i kind of felt like my my season so plenty of highs but Even going to the us open identified cuts throw on planes. You badly wasn't getting results. And keep getting punks deep. and he. he's in there but it's been. It's been a pretty good season. So far lasted a lot of fun so i helped to get myself back there soon. Job done you talk about the ups and downs of the year. I i don't think most of us watch it on..

"Also worked as director of hockey operations for miami university in ohio. According to police reports miami isn't launched an internal investigation into aldridge's just time at the school after he left the program more allegations of the quote unquote unwanted sexual. Touching rat. Aldridge coached bantam aaa team. And he was also a video coach at notre dame so there's an overview ray of what we know the allegations. Brad aldrich is facing. We know that there are at least two investigations pending the more recent launched by the chicago blackhawks. So as bettman noted on monday going back in time trying to prove who knew what and why. The allegations weren't legally address. More than a decade ago is a difficult process. However ray this is the right thing to do isn't it for the chicago blackhawks and for the national hockey drives. It's the only thing to do. They have this story. That is broken through this reporting that you talked about from the started in with the chicago based reporters through rick west head into katie strang. Who have you know been been diligent. And all over this story about providing the information that they have and they've uncovered and and they've been able to verify. The investigation independently is really the the only way forward there can be. There can be no question that anyone involved in that meeting in the blackhawks organization as it spreads out will be deposed in and spoken to and in this investigation in this in this lawsuit as they as they move forward. I think it's important. That is as much as i would say all of us but most people would like a speedy resolution. That's probably not in the cards because of the the doubts of what is going to need to be investigated a brutal story in a the fact that he went on to coach subsequently is is upsetting to to anyone reading the story and it doesn't take very much to imagine that you know that your son is that seventeen year old boy and sold there is there is there is no. There is no way forward other than through this investigation agreed and obviously as we both identified. Here it's a major story not just in the nhl but in society and without question further developments will be front and center among nhl media as made available. And we're going to continue to do our best to address those developments on the dregs. Podcast does they surface in the future. So as we get into headlines lines and we'll get the headlines momentarily just a quick thought as as we transition to.

"Week because true every week right. We've got canadian professional golfer. Mackenzie hughes coming offer real. Nice run. A couple of weeks ago at the. Us open a huge toronto maple leafs fan and we recorded the interview so we can give up little bit of a pretty good storyteller very open to discuss everything from the pga. Tour is experiences with rice into shamba brooks kept all of that incredibly honest about his experience in the final round at the us open and just as impressive is the passion that this man has as a as a maple leaves fan and a coach. Toronto maple leafs general manager. Yeah he's in he's in the thousands of the gm's of the maple leafs man. He was a great use. A great visit really cool guy to follow and love hockey like we love. Golf will check in with our good friend. Chris abbott from cool that dot co. He's got the latest in the gambling. "Information and commitment date requirements for all of events on the calendar as you mentioned. Dj takes up a lot of pages in this thing because there are so many pga tour events we breezed past it. But i had the I didn't even realize the field size. It shrunk on the opposite field events. That's a that's a a kudos decision. I think that that's literally recruiting layer. Exactly like look at the bottom of some of those like that's where you really the the eligibility and priority ranking stuff starts to get a really good workout when you start filling up those things so fewer players in that. It's probably good feels death penalty adjacent. They were calling cepeda Pj championship us open winners. Prior to one thousand nine hundred seventy to see if they get cut to get it also thought the the definition of. Hey what's the pga tour event co-sanctioned event what's a collaborative event. Or like there's there's four or five different levels. They're like you've got to like the shootout for instance and how that factors into the career money list and the fedex cup list and all that stuff is on probably honestly too complicated really go through or you know it's not. It's not huge to your viewing experience a lot of the stuff not huge to your viewing experience but you know what else is not huge the dues and fees related to the pga tour players initiation fee. One hundred dollars. We're going to get to the bottom of this which was Ex is giving away sixty million dollars to these players but if you are not eligible for that unless you pay your initiation fee to the tour which is one hundred dollars you gotta have since. Get in the game man. Not only that gonna hit you every year annual dues one hundred dollars and you better not write a bad check you better. Not the this feels a little like the gas tax to be where it's just like. Yeah i mean listen. It's it's wildly like outdated but like you're not fucking raising the fees. You guys try to do this to us all the time. You're not raising the fees on me. I'm a hundred bucks. That's more than enough to pay for all this administrative stuff. I thought i thought A very interesting point. It's a twenty dollars fee every year. But you have to bring your own insurance. Unless you're a member of the pj of america in good standing and then they they provide that for you. But then reading through the pga of america's Like the pga championship stuff. You have to be a member of the pj of america to play in the pga championship. your your boy. Omar's got to be coming out ahead in. That deal is not no wonder. He's playing all these events if he doesn't have to pay his own insurance exactly up to a million dollars in. I minimum like a million dollar liability for any harm that you could cause during tournament. You gotta supply that on mandatory locker room fee. A- fifty dollars which i think is every week based on something i read later in the yes in the book which i thought was good. You know. take care of the people in the locker room working hard for a small price to pay. Major guys are happy to do that. Minimum fifty bucks a week question for you. You think a guy like cooter skips going in the locker room Because it's only guys that locker room that's really interesting. Which isn't phil has given out some enormous cash tips to locker room attendants in the past as i've understood like in the in the four digits you know after a win or things like that. That was the famous story. If i hope i'm not misremembered this but when he finally wanted augusta right and all the yes all the locker room attendance in the main locker room. Where cryan off. Gosh like phil move into. He's moving to the champions locker room. Like that sucks. We're going to see him anymore Before we move on we should mention amador's also have to pay an administration fee of fifty dollars instead of the deuce. They don't have to pay dues but they got to pay fifty bucks when they when they register for an event. Which again i think for an event with what seven eight nine million dollar purse. I think i think that makes sense. I wonder what i truly. Don't think i understand the purpose of that but i i've been kind of racking my brain trying to figure that out i don't it says entrance fee is zero dollars which means it means. At one point. There was a tournament entry fee as well and that for sure eventually came down to zero. So why brought everything under the umbrella. Yeah i think a quick break here to check in with our friends. The draftkings sportsbook. It's not only my favorite sports book. But it's america's top rated sportsbook. It is super easy to navigate. It's very satisfying is. The is the a phrase i would use the interface and just the way the setup screens work and everything they got great instructions for limited limitless ways to get it on all the action and not only that they're currently putting you courtside with a chance to turn one dollar into one hundred dollars in sight credits. All us pick any basketball team. That is still in contention..
