"I don't know, it's just really strange. It just it just ended up here. And I mean, zodiac is something I've been fascinated with for decades. I used to live in San Francisco. I'd read gray smith's book, which is not the most accurate book, but it's a very good book in terms of readability. Nothing beats that book. And yeah, right before the pandemic started, I was working on a book about the sky named Francois January. And January was one of the worst people who's ever lived. He was a Swiss financier of terror. He was a Nazi. He was a literary age. Well, he wasn't legally a Nazi because he was Swiss and you couldn't be a Nazi, but he worked for the German intelligence agencies. After the war, he was the literary agent for the Nazi high commands. Literary estates. And then he was kind of instrumental in the founding of algier and then he got kicked out because they found him intolerable. But he had made a bunch of contacts in the Middle East. And so he became the financier of a lot of the terrorism of the 1970s and the 1980s. Well, how did you get how did you get on to him then? I mean, they come from. There's a documentary that is called terrorist advocate by this French director by barbaric Schroeder, my French is terrible. And it's about a guy who is the lawyer that represented all of these terrorists and, as mentioned in the film, because you knew paid for a legal defense of all of these terrorists. Anyway, it's a really, you know, I could go on about this for hours, but the thing about Juno is it's this very strange marriage of far left terrorism and Nazi money. And it seemed like a great book. But then the pandemic happened. And the Swiss archive shut down. So then I had a couple of other ideas. None of which I was able to bring to fruition. And then I decided I wanted to write about zodiac because I'd always been fascinated by it. And because, you know, and I give full credit to the people online, there has been a pretty active zodiac community for about 25 years. And they have collated so much information about zodiac that it gives you a way of thinking about how to dive in. And I mean, I ended up having to go back to as many original sources as I could, and so the idea was not to write how to find zodiac, the idea was to write its companion book, which ended up being called motor spirit, which is a straightforward history of the case. But in the process of doing that research, I stumbled across a name. And the more that I found out about that name, the more it became clear that there would have to be a second book, which is what turned into how to find zodiac. Good stuff, order it today. Here's out of order. Hey, let's get back to docking to Jared and let's go find the zodiac. Well, before we go down this thread a little farther, let me go back and talk about Francis Francois. Was there ever do you think there was ever any link between him and quote Carlos the jackal? Oh, absolutely. No, he financed Carlos's 1980s run. After massage assassinated wadi haddad, who was the head of the PFLP, which he knew was part of January was like arguably the unacknowledged third in command of the PFLP, suddenly and wadi haddad had exiled Carlos the jackal. Suddenly Carlos the jackal in the 80s becomes something like. A four higher terrorist. And Juno is the one who by all accounts. Gave him the money to stage all of these campaigns. When Carlos is the jackals girlfriend, magdalena cop gets arrested, she's arrest. And that's what sets Carlos off in the 80s and he starts bombing the shit out of France. He is arrested with a guy named Bruno, I can't remember his last name. But the only reason Carlos knows him is because he, he's Swiss, and introduced them. No, January is like someone will write that book someday. It

"You contracts there. And he's like you can buy shoes that are like making fun of zhang or something like he's trolling. The whole apparatus authoritarianism which is interesting. I think for what the chinese will do what they tried to do. Generally is take it out on usually the parent company right. 'cause did that that that that has the broadest chilling effect possible right at the top down pressure on at us but i yeah in the thing is you know like when he had the third one took his games off. Tv in turkey which is obviously smaller market. But it's not a tiny In the nba had his back. In that case. I mean look. I think when the nba came down on the side of a basic free speech after the dust settled You know like you always knew. Some other player could talk about china. You know like this was looming out there you know. And and so It'll be interesting to see how how far the chinese take it Because basically at the end of the day if the nba is not going to control the speech of all their players. Like you're always gonna be living with this possibility in. You're either gonna have the nba in china. You're not and that's ultimately like chinese decision. Yeah and a multibillion dollar decision on the chinese people really like basketball. Yeah it's not without it's not like an obscure. Sports is the most popular by far the most popular american sports. Yeah in china. There's some costs You you mentioned a cancerous spoken out against the turkish government. I saw over the weekend. A report that president air to one of turkey declared ten western ambassadors including the united states ambassador. Us ambassador that persona gra normally that means they literally expel you from the country because those ten countries called for the release of a prominent turkish civil society activist named osmond kavala. So that relationship is going well. Well i and again look all these guys want is for to to to feel so pointless to challenge them. You know like like across the board every autocrat. Whether it's trump in this country who make wants to make people can turned off and cynical or whether it's the chinese government trying to bully companies or whether it's air to on trying to bully ambassadors. Whatever it is they're just trying to make. It seem so tired. Some and futile and not worth it. You know and and once you succumb to that you're you're toast. Speaking of exhausting fights Let's talk about Bennigan's the israeli defense minister signing an order last week that designated six well known palestinian human rights groups that are operating in the west bank as terrorist organizations so the defense ministry claim that these groups are linked to popular front for the liberation of palestine or pflp which is a left wing organization. That has sort of a political movement and military wing. It has carried out attacks against israel That pflp has been designated as a terrorist organization by the united states by israel by the eu. So that they're sort of quantity but the connection was new between these human rights groups in the Pflp announcement was quite controversial because he's six groups are are well known got funding from the united nations from eu member states leaders of the groups. Say that the designation was just an effort to silence them to cut off their funding. The state department said that they didn't have any advance notice About his action that they wanted more information Liberal israeli cabinet members and members of the knesset were pissed because they didn't get any advanced noticed. Amnesty international and human rights watch released joint statement. That said quote. This decision is alarming escalation that threatens to shut down the work of palestine the most prominent civil society organizations quote so ben. I'm just wondering what the state department should do here. Obviously if there is evidence that an organization is supporting terrorism in some way or hiring terrorist members. Like that is a big deal. That's relevant. of course you'd want to know that but none of that has been made public. And i'm not sure i've heard process through which it would ever be made public or kind of relying on hearsay at the moment. But i i don't know what do you think states can do here. So i mean this feels like complete fucking bullshit to me These are very prominent organizations. You know they're not like a weird you know you just heard of them for the first time. These are like the prominent palestinian civil society humor positions the by the way report not just on the israeli government but on the palestinian authority and hamas and they work with international organizations. And you know so and look on the intelligence side you know with these releasing have this information if if there was one organization right you might think okay. I wonder what you know. Is there something happened in there. Like is there some money trail the fact that they're six of them. You know feels much more like an effort to just shut down palestinian civil society than some very precise intelligence based case about like somebody who works at one of these ngos has some ties. That are troubling. You know so. So i it just feels to me like what part of these organizations do is revealed the injustice of what's happening on the west bank and you want to eliminate palestinian civil society The the state department part of what bothers me about this is like the state department statement. i think noticeably pointed out that they had no advance notice to revisit something we've talked about on the show like the case made by the biden administration. Is that a quiet approach but you never have any public differences with these really government is the one that's going to yield results on all this stuff that we care about..

"I encourage you to do so We've had thousands and thousands of people do it over the last. We've only been promoting it for a short time now, and it's remarkable. So go subscribe to it, get it downloaded to your device at your convenience. And or you can go to our website and do it there. It's r p o a dot com Alright, we're going to talk now about uh huh. Estate planning. This is the part of show we talk about how to pass on to your greedy, unwashed undeserving airs the fruits of your labor. Okay, And that is called estate planning, And we're going to talk this week about how a family limited partnership could protect you. From lawsuits from bankruptcy from a state taxes, all kinds of stuff that you don't want and we're going to do that, but first Jack Kenya play it. I know I'd go from rags to return. If you would only say you care, Um my pocket, maybe empty. I'd be a monsieur to there. And of course, that is Tony Bennett with rags to riches and you know the estate taxes and probate and all that kind of stuff. It's actually designed to do the exact opposite. It's designed to take you from riches to rags, and we do not want that to happen to you. So every week at this time we have our state tip of the week and this week we're going to talk about the family limited partnership. And it's actually an F l P for short to flip and we talked about flips because we do give a flip. Just so, you know. So, Jackson the little squirts heavy? Yes, indeed. And you want happy squirts. So let's describe what a family limited partnership is. First of all, Okay, so the first what it is, is it is a business. It is your family's business. Okay, so you're creating a business. What is the purpose of the business? The purpose of the business is to manage your family's financial affairs. Okay, So what you do is you create the family partnership, and then you put your assets if you have real estate or investments or whatever it may be inside of this business. Now the reason why you do that is the same reason why people have corporations and those kind of things is because they want to protect themselves from liability right. When people create a corporation, it's because they want to protect their personal assets from their business. Somebody sues them over something that happened at their business or whatever, and they want to contain it within the business, So it's the same idea. Except now, what you're doing is you're putting a container around your family's assets. That is very difficult to appears from the outside, so if somebody wants to sue you and get at those assets, it makes it more difficult for them, so that's one thing that it can do. The other thing that it does is because businesses are valued differently than assets are So, for example, if you have and my favorite numbers you guys know is $1 million, right? Austin Powers are so if you take a million dollars And you have it in a checking account. There is no discussion about what that million dollars is worth its cash. It's in the bank. But if you take that million dollars, and you put it inside of a business, a family limited partnership And there are rules and all kinds of structure around that then all of a sudden, now you're not valuing the million dollars in cash. You're valuing the business itself and business valuation rules come into play, and those can be advantageous and get you discounts of the value for state tax purposes. Oh, and I've seen cases where that could represent savings of hundreds, if not millions of dollars in taxes. Okay, So the family limited partnership is a very Versatile tool. It's one of the few times that. I think lawyers have really come up with something that I like. Okay, you guys know how I feel about the living trust. So the family partnership PFLP is is something that you may want to consider. Now. The thing about it also is that it is complex. And it is something that you should not do by yourself. You should talk with an attorney as state planning person. Make sure you talk with a professional before you do anything like that. Okay. Now let me offer you up way of doing.

"He he did that perfectly. Yeah, he did. You know, those are the place that you work on in the spring, Right, Bill? All the PFLP hundreds of them. You know, hundreds of them and then you go four months and you don't do any more, And then you're going to do it. You got to do it with a packed house and a big moment, So it was a great flight. What about the second baseman who blocks the bag with his leg? And you know, a guy comes in with his hand. It's trouble, but you come in with the spikes. That's the last time he's going to do that. Well, you know, there's been a lot of guys over the years and one I know Bill knows who I'm talking about. We've seen him play here a lot. He played for Philadelphia and he played for the Dodgers as well. And he used to block the bag on steels and also pick offs from the picture. He dropped that need. You guys know who I'm talking about. As you say, Utley, now. Yep, it's suddenly chase suddenly and he was the best at it. Hard nose. Um, just like leaning into the pitch at the plate. You know, these guys sacrifice their body, um, for for the competition of the game, and And you know no one's ever going to say umpire is never going to call a guy safe because he drops the knee on the tag. You're just putting yourself at rest, as you said, to get spike to get cut. And you know, years ago there was many, many guys that did that, But it's kind of gone from the game today. Run, Didn't they change it? Did they put a rule in for that? Not that I'm aware of. But, you know, they're always changing so I should. We should call Eddie Montague and find out. I mean, I think if you fall down and physically try to block them off, But if you're If you're kneeling to make a tag, and your leg goes down. I don't know. I don't think there's a rule in place. Yeah, they did it. I think Estrada was the one last night. If I'm not mistaken, I think with bets coming in On the stolen base boy. What a week for you. What a week for the Giants, and we got Giants Dodgers tonight and, uh, your Connecticut Guy Leone opening up against Buehler, and then it's off to Colorado. And your big decisions this week. Well, this has been some weak for you. So let's talk River Islands. There's good things happening at River Islands. We talked last week about Don Johnson. What's going on at Island? There's field with all the high school baseball showcasing going on, but soccer as well. And you know John Doyle Yes. Yes, I do. And, you know, boy, what a couple of great coaches, um, for for the youth in the area to have access to. I mean, John Doyle. He's done everything in the game of soccer and I guess every weekend he's having clinics and things going on there. Just like Don Johns does it Islander field with all those soccer fields and, uh, you know, John Doyle, people that known they need that they need to Google him and get your kid out there, uh, to be around this guy because he is a tremendous coach was a tremendous player. And professional soccer, and you know it's an opportunity of a lifetime to go out there and get this done. Why nice? And, of course, there's new parks that are going to happen in the new community community Park 15 acres with softball diamonds, I may come out of retirement. Marty, If I'm not mistaken, somebody had told me that you had over 2000 winds as the softball pitcher in the Bay Area. I don't know if it's true enough, but, uh, Iowa as much as you talk about softball from Brooklyn to here, I bet you it is true. Well, the legend grows, You know that when the legend is better than the fact than talk about the legend, so But it would be fun. It would be fun. I did pitch a lot. I'll tell you that. Well, we'll have a great afternoon and congratulations and there's good things in your future. And if it's media combined with coaching and It's all out there for you. "I'm not that long. Verse, if you're a boxing to make the argument either way, but she's amazing. So she's she's trained in anime. Now you watched this happen, she's been at the gym for what a year. Yeah. How does she look talk to me? What does she go house or ground game? What are your, what are your predictions? She's been working heavily solely on being able to understand MMA so she's understanding the parts. Get back to her feet, they're just used to doing it. And I've actually been excited actually been a corporate, a lot more kicks into her game. With that being said, though, I think they should go work out there just Gus's Chicken. Just clean straight, right. Break your jaw right. But how is her takedown defense? Surprisingly got better so long way better than when she first started it cuz she's actually a good athlete. But she can under. Like, when people try to explain things to her like, hey, you need to control the head and do this. She looks like you have a Blank Stare. Like, what the hell did you do to say? Like, it's a dog language, but then, when she, when she sees you do it, then she can and it, like, mimic it. Exactly. So she's, she's got the perfect person helping her in Holly cuz that's the person who exactly what she's trying to do. And also she's a different weight class. Doesn't like she has to worry about. Oh, I don't get this girl too good because then she yeah, so I'm excited now. I think the pflp trying to make Kayla Harris adverse Clarissa Shields. It seems like they're going because both of them are gold medalist, both to time. Gold medalists, they're both going to be undefeated in MMA. How do you see that? A fight going down. It's going to be it's going to be interesting cuz it's going to be like that. Old-time classic between Striker, versus a very proud were and like we're, you know, we're still going to sit there and be able to go ahead and keep her have that did not arrange but man, Michaela is going to sit there and try to hit that nice judo throws that she has been. She's been, that's what she's been dominating all the FL with. So I'm excited to kind of see what's going to happen if who can dictate what pays in the house going to go. You're both mean to. They're both like me like, not like in a bad way, but they're both Fighters. They have that fucking that kill you attitude. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. It's crazy. Bill, any final questions for the great John the magician Dodson. Hey, man, serious. You're, you're one of my favorite Fighters. One of my favorite personality of, see, I Loved You on The Ultimate Fighter as well as you fight a game. I want to see back then, I can't wait. When when is your best friend again, by July 30th? Like they asked me if I want to fight this dude was like yeah, I don't turn down fights. Let's go, let's go do this I'll take this one up right now. So don't take them lightly. He's good, he's good. I'm not taking them lightly at all. I just realized that.

"Well hello there once again. Everybody and welcome back to a brand new edition of on to the next one. Yes we are back after a week off from the program since the ufc. And bela tor were both off last week. And there's so much going on in our lives that we decided you know what i think. We should take a week off as well but now we're back very excited about that because we missed you guys and we're going to be discussing the what's next coming out of. Ufc vegas twenty eight. Which went down this past saturday night. I mike heck and joining me. Once again. is the co host the coal matchmaker. The best friend reunited and it feels. Oh so good. Alex kelly the prince positively joins us. How are you buddy. I'm great. i'm great my my best friend. I definitely enjoy doing shows again this week with yourself of course and jose in casey and all that i definitely enjoy you know getting to write about you. See stuff for the readers for the listeners. But i did not enjoy watching the ufc again. As much as i thought i would normally normally all takes a week off from see again. There was no excuse me there was no bell tower. There was no Pflp week off from big north american. Promotion ma And so. I thought i'd feel a lot more like jazzed. Up about saturday's card wants it started because even in the previous kinda like i don't know how excited about the car but inside mike and inside i was like no wants. This card starts once i see claudio place and jordan lebanon that cage. I am going to be just super excited. And it never. I don't know if there was any point in the night where ever hit that level of like Yes i'm cruising watch and fight him. I'm feeling good. It was a little bit of a slog. Goes a little bit of a slogan that for fourteen fight card some uneventful decisions. It was a slog. I was like all signs are pointing like i was. I was really afford to woodson salal. That was pretty gritty fight I was obviously looking forward to seeing men fewer back in there but like all signs are pointing towards ponsonby overseas by which will talk about in a moment because that was great and the follow up from that. Like just and i'm not trying to sound like a jerk. Because i respect anybody gets an octagon but the middleweight fight after that. Just suck the life out of me at that point because i was just so jazzed up but it is what it is but real quick ak no-show recording this past sunday how did you. How did you spend your sunday off. What did i do. So i probably watching the nba playoffs. I think that was one of their there. Were still lives first round. So i think there were still doing like four four games in a day so i think i just i just buckled down. I watched at least three of the four games and just just washed myself in my my other favorite sport professional basketball. It's interesting it's interesting. You know know. The celtics were in the playoffs in the first round. I said they got knocked out. So you at least some some rooting interest there. It's interesting when your team which has been for the raptors. I'm talking about contending for so many recent years isn't out and obviously being in the playoffs. Better than anything. I i would rather be an eight seed and get swept my team not make the playoffs. Which sounds stupid but But the next best thing is having no playoff stress again watch enough stress about i. Just enjoying the chaos. That is the best place i. I'm pretty sure that's what i did last night. It's all a blur now so long ago. I know it was a long chaotic weekend for me. It's honestly been one of the most chaotic weeks. I've had in a very long time. I now six days with the new pooch he's been great. I will say the wake ups are much earlier. There's some things. I need to get used to with little shiloh. But he's been a wonderful addition to the family. he is now the official mascot for onto the next one. It's just like your kid. It's like when you had a kid again so you know neither growing up near kind of going through that like adjusting your sleep schedule again for new members of the family right. So you've been through. This guy did this before i just. Maybe those days are over at least sleep till like six thirty this morning so i was very appreciative of that but any who it is time. Shiloh michael heck. I cannot remember. Which does your dog actually have a legal middle name His tag should be here soon. They'll say shallow. Mike and i will say this. I am not egotistical. Enough to throw my middle name in there. This is my kid's name for him. He it's grace's middle name so he decided you know what i'm gonna give my middle name to the dog. Well i've never been a pet owner but someone told me that all pets pets have middle names. Right like the illegally. Do they legally have to have no names. I have no idea or they have to have last names. Maybe that maybe that's what threw me off. Someone's saying like you know when you go to the vet when you go to the ben stuff like that there is a registry if if anything just kind of separate all the all the shiloh is are all the you know benji or whatever i think. They do have other like microchips. Well that's okay. So i guess it technology advance but that's nice. He has a full name. I will. I will do my best mike to remember. I am terrible remembering my friends. Pet's names are you. Would you be offended. If someone doesn't remember your pet's name. No i know okay. I'm good with kid. Names mostly like who meets him will remember him. Because he's a sweetheart like he is the talk of the town right now everyone who meets him issues. Like wow like. How long have you had this dog for. Like four or five days and just like blown away because he's so cool each loves everybody. It's great. i'm i'm afraid of dogs. I don't know if i've said this on the air before. I'm afraid of dogs. But but i trust you that i would get along with your. I am thirty eight years old. This is the first dog i've ever had in my life ever ever been a big pet guy 'cause like it's not that i don't like them it's like i don't trust them but this one like once i met him like you melt in my heart and i just had a head to bring them in..

"Israelis deliberately let them grow while persecuting and and and oppressing everyone else so they amass sweeping roundup all the p. l. o. guys and leave the hamas out there and you know i think they helped finance them and the rest of that too and for the simple reason divide and conquer create a right wing religious alternative to the secular leaning. Plo common but they were somewhat leftist and the pflp and all that popular liberation front and all that and so just divide and conquer and they helped to sucker the rise of of of hamas in the first place and then. I got to say to sorry. Dave got these tangents there in my now. They're also great when ariel sharon murdered sheikh yaseen in the year. Two thousand and four data. What caused the riot. Influenza where the blackwater guards were hanged from the bridge. And then george. W bush sent james madison. The marines to kill hundreds and hundreds of civilians in the giant battle of volusia in the spring of two thousand four that really touched off the sunni based insurgency in iraq war to was all because of the israelis murdering an old man in a wheelchair with cruise missile. These things are sticky. Yeah man so listen. They're they're doing this. Ethnic cleansing campaign in east jerusalem. Then on the last day of ramadan netanyahu sent the security forces to attack the people praying at the al aqsa mosque and you. I don't know who threw the first rock or who shot the first stone. Grenade or what. Maybe a palestinian through iraq. I but it was a massive security force provocation in the first place and then the next day they did it again. This was one week ago last friday. And then the next day on saturday did it again. They injured three hundred. People are a bunch of women praying in there and go in there with flashbang grenades and smoke bombs and rubber bullets in this kind of thing and three hundred people were wounded in the deal and hamas then a warning and said if you don't get your forces off of the dome of the rock or the al aqsa mosque compound by this time tonight. We're going to shoot some rockets at us. And so then that was what happened. And then it was. I think it was last sunday night monday morning. Or maybe it was monday night. Tuesday morning was when hamas started firing the rockets but this is step four on the chain of events. Here is not the beginning of this thing and then you know. It's understandable that americans. This is the line from a better. Get this right my speech tonight. This is the line that robert higgs used about. World war two and franklin roosevelt. Whenever they tell the history of the story they always truncated the antecedents in other words. Yeah you know what. Japan attacked us. And then we had kick their ass. Well also other stuff happened before that that you might need to know about right and so it's the same thing here where they go. Look what would you do a moscow's firing rockets at you. Nothing and it's just look if you shop at a fistfight and you don't know who swung i just pick like the guy where the closest skin color yours or not willing to to yourself that you actually. I just got here. And i don't know who hit first and then and then football and that the fact that like look there could be somebody who lives like in you know as a real good job has a real nice family. Has you know has like lives a life similar to the life that you live and has the same skin color as you and there could be somebody who's like has a different skin color than you and lives in like a fucking shack and has a very different culture than you and you'd probably be a lot more judgmental about the way they run their life but it's still also possible that the first guy starts a fight with the second guy that is still a possible thing even know you could be like no even though this guys more similar to me and this is a whole different world that that could be the case and if you look at it and by the way sixty percent of the israeli jews look just like arabs. Did you know that it's only the ruling. Caste twenty percent of the top of the oscar. Nause jews from europe while. That's where okay so if you want to be a big big at about it and the browns side. How about the palestinian christians if an arab is a christian is half a human. Then you care about them at offi praises same. Jesus on christmas you. I look at it like it's as if i don't know in some analogy like you know the pre israeli relationship with with the muslims in palestine. Whatever predating the creation of israel is almost like. It's like if i'm the jew and you would i am and And i rent a room out in your house. And i were in a room there. You got like a nice big house and you rent a room and we're kind of like getting along fine like i'm renting a room there and there's and then it's kind of like some outside body decides our actually going to split this old house fifty fifty and you're like excuse me like what no that's not and then i invite my whole family and they start moving your family down to like half the house and have to have moving into and before you know the basic your your garage with your family and actually now i'm going to rate into your garage and check that everything's going the right way and then be like key. Believe scott tried to throw a punch at me. When i came into his garage. Did he give you permission to come in the garage. Like no no i just. I reserve the right to come into the garage. Whenever i want to write even though that's his and like i mean you know at that point so not just in the fist fight analogy but you have to have some context here where this is not just a fight. That came out of nowhere. This is a fight from people who have been pushed into the garage of this region. And if we're not here about robert rights they had the majority claim of this land. And like you said they've already kind of given up on all of that and we just have gaza and the west bank and we just at least have that be hours but the truth is from the libertarian. Starting point they the un had no right to even initially give the jews that much of the property. That didn't own is did the british..

"You know who you are on, John. Thanks for listening. Guys Good to talk with Jeremy Corner of the Chicago Tribune. He had a piece today on the pope's latest vote of No confidence. Jeremy, Welcome back to Double the house. How are you? Good. How are you? I'm doing very well. So this really wasn't a big surprise, obviously, a lot of bad blood between the mayor, the superintendent and the superintendent's first deputy. What prompted the F O p to vote no confidence unanimously. I guess what 200 to 3 other people or 1 50 to 200 officers last night. It was unanimous. No confidence. What prompted it this time? Well, it's a combination of a lot of things. Um, there have been many instances where officers have had their days off canceled. They've had to have their ship. Their shifts extended from eating a half hours 12 hour days. Um, Officer Wellness has because you know, Officer exhaustion is obviously affect their officer. Wellness. Um, there was also, you know, you know a lot of anger among NFL team members about the fact that CPD canceled the annual ST Jude's Memorial march for fallen officers. Um, this year. I believe it's the second day the second year in a row because of Coke of because of coal bed, um and you know, obviously And you know, it's just a combination. You know, of all those things. Basically, there's in the fact one of the newer things, too. Is that Detectives who investigate property crimes like robberies have been asked, um, basically go on to patrol duties, sitting at six posts or corners toe. Um, guard streets you know, with in light of the rise in violence and taking, you know those detectives away from robbery investigations, basically, and that's obviously caused. A little more on each among the rank and file, according the F O P. So it's a combination of all these things are the police on permanent. You know the ESPN and have 8.5 hour shifts. I read today there are 12 our ships is that for the foreseeable future? My understanding. It's um it's going to be, um, I believe through Memorial Day weekend, which is actually pretty pretty standard around. Um, how they weekends like Fourth of July. Memorial Day. You know, once it gets warmer out, um, you know, and, you know, historically, we've seen, um you know, a lot of violence, unfortunately, happen on the streets where, um You know, Mayor Lightfoot is going to feel pressured has felt pressured, you know, to reduce violence, you know, period, but especially during weekends like this. I mean, you know, everyone says that you know, there's been a lot of concern among officers about You know the summer coming up, you know, especially with homicides and shootings up the way they are again, eh? So it's really every year. You see, day off cancelations in 12 hour days, but I think the concern now is is if you recall Mayor Life wouldn't Superintendent Brown. It really said that they've tried to make an effort to curb overtime costs for the city. Of course, that kind of went by the wayside last year. Um, you know, with with cold it and the civil unrest, etcetera, and you know, there's obviously this is probably an issue that can't be ignored, going forward because, like you said, we are looking like we're discussing. We are seeing In the future that there are still going to be more day off cancelations and shift extensions for the police, so that could invariably equal more overtime dollars. That voice and all that information comes from Jeremy Corner, who is a great reporter for the Tribune's Metro section. He covers the Chicago Police Department. Since you mentioned the statistics. Let me read from your piece from this morning's paper through May homicides in the city of 22% over the same period last year. 35% jump over the last two years and shootings. And that's about 58%. I'm sorry, 58% in the last two years. What is the situation with the rank and file and what I would assume to be because it's such a tough job under these extraordinarily difficult circumstances in this day and age. What's the brain drain of the rank and file as far as early retirements looking like The last numbers I saw. It definitely looked like at the end of last year, There were definitely far more retirements in CPD within CPD compared toe like 2019 2018. I haven't gotten up to speed on what the numbers are so far this year. I know that there that you know, in hearing Superintendent Brown's remarks on this issue. He seems to think that the, um what the F PFLP has obviously raised alarm about this issue where a superintendent Brown hasn't saying it isn't supported by data. I mean, obviously, that remains to be seen Apple look the numbers, but I know that last year we did see an increase in officer retirements over the last few years prior to 2020. And the other thing, too, to keep in mind is that you know, In addition to Fighting the violence, fighting the right and violence on the street and officer, fatigue Officer Wellness issues. You know, their officers are also going through, Um, just big changes throughout the department with the consent decree and having to go through in some or in service training. And more so there, you know, in areas of no use of force training. They're going to have to get up to speed on a new search warrant policy and soon a new foot pursuit policy, among other things. And so they they're gonna really have to re calibrate their thinking on the street. Just because of, um not just because you know, with the rise in violence, but also just you know how they do their jobs on a day to day basis. But you know the way police reforms. Yeah, I was surprised to read this. A colleague of yours wrote this today. Uh, but that the mayor or so she says, was unaware. Until the you know the hacked emails and the release that traunch of e mails last week and as your colleagues pour through it, I read today that the mayor claims they're her administration. They had no idea that the police Department had a drone program with off the money or off the books, money. That's you know, there seems to be some significant communication problems between departments here in Chicago. Right? I mean, you know, we have seen that That's not a new thing As far as issues with communication, I mean, we saw Um, you know, with the engine that young case, for example, um, case with the faulty search warrant, that was another, You know the thing with You know, I know that the mayor, you know, at first was saying that she didn't know anything about it, but then said no and November 2019. I do remember, you know that. I don't know if I remember. But I am on an email string where we were discussing this issue. It just seems that, um obviously there's been a lot for this mayor. To kind of get a handle on as far as communication and transparency goes among city departments, especially, you know, with the department's largest the police department. But, yeah, I mean the issue with the Jerome's. The issue with the facial recognition is another story. As far as just You know the You know the last administration just not knowing the severity of these things. They're just a couple of examples of the government's hard governments hard, especially with the city of this size Now back to your story about the vote of no confidence. The F O p. The President John can. Sarah said he hopes that forces of the mayor and the superintendent to respond historically, you know, the headline was stunning this morning. The fact that The CPD rank and file cops issued no confidence vote unanimous against the mayor in the superintendent, his first deputy, too, But they've done this before. Can you quickly in our remaining moments to talk about 2019 and also way back with Jodi Wiese? Yeah, So in 20, so just so to be clear for your listeners on no confidence vote has no legal recourse on the mayor on the mayor's ability to govern..

Jodi Wiese Jeremy Corner John Jeremy Chicago November 2019 200 2019 Chicago Police Department Apple 35% 58% 22% 1 last year 8.5 hour today last week Sarah Mayor

"It, even this group Put help plan 9 11 murdered hundreds of Americans in Iraq funds, trains and arms has Bala Hamas, the PFLP terrorist groups and the group that murdered 100 Jews in Buenos Aries. So this is just one of the bad people are real. Haynes, the director of national intelligence has signed anti Israel letters demanding Usual should be criticized more condemning Israel for violence, terrorism, incitement, total lines and saying the Democratic platform has to have more anti Israel actions who listed on the first one. I listed Woz, the attorney general nominee, Merrick Garland, What can you tell us about Merrick Garland? Hmm. I assumed he'd be okay. He's always listed as a moderate. I looked at the cases he was involved in his decisions have repeatedly blocked or limited innocent Arab American victims of person Arab terrorism and Iranian terrorism for obtaining justice, for example, Astra climate and American schoolteacher who was murdered by the pillow in Israel. The family suit, and he said they have no right to sue a zit pillow. Even though we have laws on the books, recent laws that say this a foreign entity was Steve's U. S assistance at the Palestinians do has services in the U. S. As the Palestinians did. Then they are liable under our laws. And yet, he said, they're not liable under our laws and an Arab American, whose name is a seed, Mohammed Raheem. He was captured in Jericho when he was visiting in that area. It was tortured and killed by the pillow. When the family sued Merrick Garland said. They had no standing. They can't sue. And there many, many others so even the attorney general, is somebody. As a result of everything you've just said, when it comes to the successes of this administration in when, when the Biden administration takes over more, there's gonna be a transformation in the attitude toward Israel. Question is what's commitment that peace never questioned the past. The authorities commitment that piece Onboard. I'm that is we're building in Jerusalem is posing the atmosphere, So I'm looking. Unfortunately, I hope I'm wrong. Enormous pressure on Israel to stop allowing choose to live in today in Samaria and to promote a Palestinian state, which would be a terrorist state. So and also the cramping moves in the United Nations have more resolutions against Israel that I'm afraid this by administration may not veto justice. Obama didn't veto vicious anti Israel resolutions. Well, I know one thing I know one thing. When Biden was the vice president. Friends were treated. Like enemies and the enemies were cuddled. When we came into the White House and Donald Trump became the commander in chief. Our enemies quaked. And some of them like Isis would destroyed. You know what to expect in the next at least two years until the next election. We will be back to an age where our friends are shunned and our enemies. Given comfort and sucker.
