Let's get it who that nation wrap it up today's episode of locked on saying to the cook look at kind of what it is about this New Orleans it was just sit back at my chair for a second. I'm gonna tell you what it is about this New Orleans Saints win that you should feel pretty good about, even if you're a fan that's kind of like punted on the season. So far, if we get the background noise, I'm here in the Caesars Superdome and they are the cleanup crews are getting their job done. Thank you for all of your work. Really appreciate all of it. So why should you feel good about this win? Even if you're somebody that's punted on the season so far. If you said I have no expectations for the New Orleans Saints for the rest of this season, why should you care about this one? Well, here's a couple of reasons. Chris salami. Taysom Hill, Kate and Ellis. To an extent Pete Warner, let's not forget about Pete Warner even though he wasn't on the field today. Caesar Ruiz, Ryan ramjet. Let's stop there. All of those guys, they're going to be saints for a little while. Remember Kate and Ellis, who's been on the show twice before? Yeah, twice before. Has talked about how much he absolutely loves being in New Orleans. Mario Davis called him the best kept secret in the NFL. And he had a, I mean, he bawled out on this field. Again, again, two weeks in a row that rams had tape on him and he still did it. Ten total sacks led the team there one and a half sacks. He had a couple tack or a tackle for a loss and a pass breakup as well. I would say he also had a couple of passes defended, even though he didn't get his hand on his ball on the ball to knock it away. He still impacted a couple of plays in the passing game. But he was awesome. And so you look at what it is that Kate and Alice has done over the course of the past couple of games. You compare that to a Pete Werner had done coming into that point until his injury. Chris olave is without a doubt the best rookie wide receiver in the NFL. He came into this game leading, they're all rookies at wide receiver in targets receptions and receiving yards and he did it again. Had 6 targets of 5 catches a 102 receiving yards, the big 50 three yard touchdown strike from Andy Dalton. He was awesome. Caesar Ruiz was awesome and face a huge task night. Now, of course, the saints put a lot of hats on Aaron Donald, but you know, look, you're only as good as your weakest link, right? And so if Caesar weeds would have been a little bit off here, a little bit off there or whatever, and then none of it would have mattered. So he performed extremely well yet again, hasn't he had maybe like the biggest, he's probably the most improved player. For the New Orleans Saints going into going into this season. I think you look at that, you look at, you know, obviously Ryan ramczyk who's been spectacular for a long time, Alvin Kamara who's been great for a long time, Taysom Hill I go on nowhere. He's on a long-term deal. So you look at all of those players, then you also look at pulse and debo and a lot to Taylor, who had great games. These are the reasons that you're excited in terms of the outlook. Even if you just want to turn the page to 2023 already. Because these young guys are the guys who are going to be the makeup of this team for the future. Rashi shahid, Chris olave, allante Taylor Paulson at debo Kate and Ellis, Carl granderson, Peyton Turner, unfortunate that he had the injury. These are the guys that are gonna be the makeup of this team moving ahead and you've seen really good performances from them. And in some cases, you look at a lot of Taylor, you take into consideration Pete, why don't you take it into consideration kayden Ellis so far? Chris, they have been good all season. It's not just this game. So the quote unquote young core as the Los Angeles Lakers used to try to put it when they were trying to talk themselves into being a good team. Is outstanding for this New Orleans Saints team and so you have all of the building blocks to continue to build around. So if the saints can answer long-term their quarterback question, if they can answer long-term what happens in their future post cam Jordan poster Mario Davis at those positions, if they can figure out where they want to go at safety, and if they get the coaching staff the way that they want the coaching staff and producing the way that they need that, this team has a bright future..

Okay, so why am I saying that this is the best game that the New Orleans Saints have put together? This season, even though they're saying shut out an opponent here in this very same stadium at home, 24 to zero against Las Vegas Raiders. One of which is because I'm insane. The second part, though. Is that if you think about it, in that game against Las Vegas Raiders, if we learned anything in the games that followed with the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Raiders kind of beat themselves. And now when I'm not going to take anything away from the New Orleans Saints, who shut out an opponent. It's very hard to blank an opponent to goose egg and opponent in the NFL. There's absolutely no doubt about that. But it's a little bit easier when the team can shoot themselves in the foot penalties, you know, bad play calls, not putting the ball in the hands of their playmakers. Honestly, a lot of the things that the New Orleans Saints have done so far this season that I've shot them in the foot that they didn't do in this game, and that's for me where the difference is. The Los Angeles Rams didn't really do a ton to hurt themselves in this one. They didn't turn the ball over. They had a few penalties in this one. Shout out to the new rule and saints by the way, only two penalties in this game for what, 15 yards? Not bad and the last one was a false start on one of the final plays like the punt. Late in the game. But the rams kept punching. 140 rushing yards in this game. And the rams were a league worse coming into this one. 68.1 yards rushing per game in the NFL, and they put up a 148 rushing yards averaged 4.9 yards per carry on the ground up against a very, very injured New Orleans Saints defensive line that came in without cam Jordan for the first time in his 160 plus game career due to injury, right? He missed the game last year because of COVID, but it took a COVID absence and what Ian rappaport reported this morning over at NFL network a in orbital bone fracture, which side note I've heard the same thing. It took that to keep him out of this game. Have you ever been into this two games at his career? That's pretty incredible. But anyway, you were without cam Jordan, you were without Marcus sabot who were especially this season, your top run stoppers, right? The interior defensive line has struggled so far this season. They haven't been they've been getting pushed a ton. They haven't reset the offensive line in favor of themselves a lot of scrimmage in favor of themselves much this season. So you really took away their best players at those edge defenders when it comes to stopping the run. Then you saw Peyton Turner, get back there and make a stop actually from a play that had pretty good interior push, by the way. And then in that he ends up hurting his ankle and then he gets carted off the field, and then he's out. And I don't know that we're going to see Peyton Turner for a little while now, especially based upon the way that injuries have impacted the saints and how much mistime the saints have gathered up over the course of these past over the course of this season so far. So they punched, I mean, you saw a 148 rushing yards on 30 carries in this game, the rams are only averaging 21.2 carries per game coming into this one. These are the big 62 yard touchdown for Matt Stafford to Tutu atwell that you just knew was going to be a touchdown the moment that Matt Stafford let that one go. I mean, two two atwell four three 9 speed just blazing past Chris Harris junior. And by the way, shout out to Chris Sarah junior for responding to that and having a pretty good game after that had a pretty good game before that too. But I think that one of the things that makes this kind of the best game for me in terms of the saints was the fact that they met so much adversity in game and had to overcome it. They had to bounce back. They had the punch back. They had to respond and they did so in the second half. Saint scored two touchdowns in the third quarter, one in a past two Jarvis Landry another on the big 53 yard touchdown at Chris olave will discuss crystal lobby and how fantastic he was in this game here in a little bit as we look at the young stars and why you should be excited about them in the future of this team. But then they only allowed 6 points in the second half, and that was a New Orleans Saints kind of staple all last year was no touchdowns in the second half, right? There were so few games in which they allowed touchdowns in the second half, even despite injury and all that. And we saw that in this game too. This thing didn't have Pete Werner, their best, probably their most consistent player all season. They didn't have their two starting edge rushers, the safeties continued to struggle. It was a game in which everything could have gone wrong, but you know what? It didn't. Because Kate Ellis stood up because car Anderson stood up because tomorrow Davis played his head off. I mean, it was awesome. And it tastes excuse me. Alonzo Taylor, not the same thing at all. A hot day Taylor, impulsive also had excellent games over on the perimeter. So I think you look at this New Orleans Saints team in this game and you look at the offense you look at the defense, you look at the adversity that they face on both phases of the game in terms of injuries coming in, injuries that happen during the game, early three and out by the saints offense. I mean, there were like all of these little things that kind of stood out and a ten point first half for the saints offense, all that, but they bounced back and they counter punched away from all of that. So to me, that's why this was their best game. They had to fight in this one. And they had to fight adversity, and they found a way to do that time and time out. It was also probably the best game on the special team side so far. You'd love to see rashi shahid be able to break off a big return without a holding penalty happening away from the play, bringing it back, it's happened two weeks in a row now. Somebody tried to tell me that the returns were because of the penalties. No, one of them was behind in this one. We were like Justin Evans, didn't have to do anything at all and rashi. Justin Evans could have completely missed the block in Rashida, had nothing but daylight up to up to midfield. So, you know, you want to see those things he cleaned up the saints offensive..

"For the draft, just for the draft. It could really get wild and awesome. You know, that's the atmosphere. This is great anyway, but that's the atmosphere that we want, you know? Yeah, and obviously I've been doing path to the draft every day with Daniel Jeremiah with Bucky Brooks and DJ talking all these draft evaluators, college scouting directors, GMs and all this and I remember him like literally taught me about one player who we've had mocked in the first round, like literally the entire time during mock draft seasons and one GM actually had a 6th round grade on that player. That's wild, you know, to have that much of a disparity. I mean, I just went through it right now with the GM right before I got on. We went through it went through an offensive. I'm into I think it's going to run the first round. And he had a fourth round grade on. And she talked about the quarterbacks and one of the quarterbacks that I think is going to go. And the highest grade. And this is a team not taking a quarterback, but a lot of that's what it's like. are going to happen. I always enjoy whenever Paul Sarah decides to join us. I always enjoy his article. I'm first round surprises. Yeah. Because this year there's going to be some really, really fun ones. Yeah, definitely. And by the way, that's out there and it's all about dot com slash palo serro right now, a couple of guys like Logan hall being one of them there and defensive tackle from Houston, which kind of represents a little bit of one of the surprises we had a year ago, you know, which was Peyton Turner to go into the saints. And we'll get to that whenever he does, in fact, decide to find some Wi-Fi and join us here. But well, you don't even need Wi-Fi, just a regular old cell signal. Yeah, it's a pretty good deal, actually. So it turns out there's pretty good coverage on the strip in Vegas. So the other part of this because you mentioned it when you were talking about that conversation you just had with the GM is the quarterbacks. We've gone everywhere on the quarterbacks. From who the top quarterback is, seems to differ depending on who you talk about, where that quarterback will go, how high or like, on the flip side, how long will it take until we get one off the board? Do you have any sense right now of where the first one goes and how many we end up getting in the first round of you? Yeah, I mean, I feel like I do. I personally feel like we'll get one in the top ten, maybe two, and I think we'll probably get one of the backend first round as well. So I'm thinking three in the first round. Yeah. But then, you know, and so what do I know, right? I mean, I'm talking to everyone, but no one really says and the teams who are going to take a quarterback are like the most squirrelly source. So they'll want to keep that kind of keep it under wraps. But there's other people who have really good information, who think a quarterback doesn't go until 20. But the Steelers, which right, which I think is crazy, but that could be what we end up what we end up seeing. I'm going to go in an elevator up to my location. If I live to be back, I'm going to keep talking, but if I lose you, just sure, sure thing. Thanks, Ian. The natural, just the organic conversation here. And the NFL Twitter address space. So that's all good. Yeah, so the quarterbacks are obviously some of the big wild cards. And obviously Ian's going to be talking about that all day on NFL network and as part of the draft broadcast. Oh, is that elevator music? It is actually elevated music in the elevator. Yeah. Oh. What a deal. I mean, I don't know what else you're supposed to play, right? There's never a time. Yeah, that would be it for sure. It's a little too on the nose, but you know, this is what it is. So here's one of the one of the questions because we've long kind of thought. And by the way, are you saying from your understanding with the Jaguars inking cam Robinson to the three year $54 million deal that you put out there? On Twitter this morning, are you saying that that takes tackle off the board for them at number one? I wouldn't say it takes it off the board, but it definitely is something considered. I could understand why they take, you know, why they would take a tackle right into you can move on from the right tackle they have. Taylor. You know, you can have camera Robinson playing the right side, but the thought of taking someone the first overall pick, having them play on the right side and definitely seems like not reality to me. I'm thinking edge, I'm thinking defense. Yeah, and look, I think that's part of the conversation here. We were talking on path to the draft this week about, yeah, came Robinson's back on the franchise tag, no they're talking about a long-term deal. They took walker little in the second round last year, they took to on Taylor in the second round a couple of years ago. And if you take a tackle, we were kind of likening it to Doug Peterson situation in Philly when he won the Super Bowl. I made it. Let's go. Oh, you did. Nice. How about that? I was just casually filling until you got off the elevator. Jason Peters on the left side, and lane Johnson on the right side, two of the best tackles in football and a big part of that Super Bowl run for Philly. And there was talk that it's Doug Peterson making the push Ian for a tackle, regardless of what happens with cam Robinson because you knew he was going to be there this year anyway back on the franchise tag for the second year. So I'm just kind of wondering if that still keeps tackle on the board, even though they have the long term deal with cam, and maybe it's a key quantum and he can play some guard or write tackle until you figure out what you want to do there permanently. Right. I understand all of that. I'm not saying. I'm just saying when we're talking a number one pin. Someone who is a difference maker, someone who, you know, you hope that it is a premium position. You hope that it is someone who will play a spot where you're like, I don't have to worry about this for years to come. And to me, the uncertainty of like, did we just take a tackle? Or do we just take a guard at number one? Right. No, I get it. It makes me makes me kind of ream defense. But even then, do we really know which edge rusher it's gonna be at number one if that's the position they go? Is it 8 and Hutchinson with the production or is it the projection and Trayvon walker from Georgia? Like they're still intrigued even in that scenario, right? Yeah. Yeah, and it has been fascinating to watch what has happened, not that anything's happening to 8 and Hutchinson because if he doesn't go one, my guess is he goes to. Right. But everyone has been pretty clear on that walker has more upside and is more explosive, except when you actually look at the numbers, which is not the case at all, but that's sort of what everyone has decided. I actually have some breaking news. Oh, this is important. Tell us. Tom palace was joined the chat. Tom, hi. Hi, Tom. Hello. Hey, man. How are you? You know, we're staying at a very nice hotel. I've enjoyed the accommodations or shot list grade. If there is one complaint, it is, there is zero cell service and terrible Wi-Fi. So we're working around it. I may disappear in ten seconds. Ask all your questions very fast for you. I may be gone any time. Okay, great. Got it. Talk to the Cerro red Lewis here on a little NFL Draft Twitter spaces, but also kind of giving you a glimpse of what episodes on NFL inside report the podcast are like these guys Ian and Tom are always gracious with their time and join us and give us all the skills. More than gracious. Oh yeah. That's not a time that we give to you. It's like, hey, yeah.

"Than 200 yards of total offense in that loss to the bills. First four game losing streak since 2015 they've never lost 5 straight in the same season under Sean Payton. But again, much like we talked about with the Chargers and markets being efficient, Dallas started out the season like a house on fire, 6 in one straight up, 7 O, where it mattered most of the betting window. They've now gone one in three straight up and one in three against the number. But you have to think as Dallas gets their weapons healthier on the offensive side. This aids defense is good against the run, but they've been a real liability against the pass. So I'm just gonna spazz out a little bit here and just throw some stuff out there and this doesn't need to be the most comprehensive breakdown, although on paper, cowboys saints should be a good matchup unfortunately. It might not be. And it's just a monster game for both teams when you look at what's at stake here. Dallas has lost two straight, saying some saints have lost four straight, kind of feels like the break in the road type game where Dallas is attempting to prove they're still a legitimate contender in the saints are trying to keep their season alive. If New Orleans can survive tonight and that appears unlikely there is some light at the end of the tunnel schedule wise because aside from a game against the box, it's very manageable the rest of the way. But there's a lot of moving parts for both teams. We saw Dallas get steamed early in the week by price grabbers laying the four got out to as high as 6 and a half some places, then McCarthy catches the big C and news breaks as we're recording. I believe it was Monday's show. And a group just grabbed the 6 on New Orleans thinking it would come down. It did. It got back to four. And then we saw this morning the line kind of settle in the four and a half range, but now we are back out to 6, 6 and a half with the laundry list of guys out for the saints again. And so with just so many moving parts, I don't think this needs a full breakdown. But just some things that come to mind is Amari Cooper was activated and in the building. CD lamb is back, huge considering that Cedric Wilson is out. What I have seen over the last four games or so is a good saint's defense that lost a ton of depth due to salary cap constraints as off season, start to wear down because it's offense can't stand the field. And now there's injury specifically to the defensive end rotation where Marcus Davenport Peyton Turner to know those three guys are out, then your slot corner Gardner Johnson is out along with Malcolm roach on the interior. Let me kind of be Canada. There's a very clear way to attack New Orleans defense and the way Kelly Moore is devised game plans and called plays this season. I think we have to give him the benefit of the doubt that he will recognize the best way to attack them. And I think Dao spends some time in some two tight end sets tonight throw from that formation. They have to throw with play action from that formation. The saints are given up 9.7 yards per pass attempt defending two tight end sets and a one 22 pass already. New Orleans is one of the most sensitive defenses in the entire league to play action. Dak Prescott has been better this season throwing with a play fake element, passer rating increases 19 points adjusted accuracy 8% better Dax only made one turnover worthy throw all season when throwing the play action. We know the way you attack the saints defense through the air is picking on corner number two. Paulson adipo. He somehow still getting more snaps than Bradley robe read despite being outplayed substantially. Allowed over 15 yards of reception for touchdowns on 50 targets. Good for a one 19 passer rating allowed when targeted. And the problem that nobody seems to be talking about is also Marsha on Lattimore's production. It's completely dropped off a cliff. Started the season on fire was back to his elite production level through 5 weeks. Since that time, Lattimore has turned out a negative coverage grade in each of the last 6 games. This could also mark the first time that we see dac lamb Cooper Zack Martin tyron Smith and leil Collins start a game together. So huge boost there for that offense. Just quickly the other side. Injuries, Alvin Kamara was announced out. Taysom Hill, baby. Taysom Hill. Taron Armstead, who was limited all last week, played on Thanksgiving night, has a full week to recover was a DNP at practice all week, and then just got announced out as we started recording this. You know, you got two horses out along the offensive line both your tackles. You're already down Andre's Pete. You're left guard. So now what are you doing offensively? Trautman, who was leading the team in targets, the four weeks prior to him being out. So now you've lost like your go to guy, Taysom Hill, as you mentioned is going to start, is no one talking about this. He's dealing with a painful foot injury. Well, and it's why he hasn't been playing. He floating around. Bingo. You nailed it. You nailed it there and I think that's what a lot of people go, man, Trevor Simeon has sucked how come Taysom Hill hasn't gotten in there. He's not a 100% if he can't run and he's a true pocket passer. Good luck. I'm paraphrasing, but this is what has been said about Taysom Hill. This is a pain management and pain tolerance thing. We hope it doesn't actually limit functionality. So aside from the foot injury, Taysom Hill is going to try to play through here. He's a quarterback with a career 91 passer rating when he's played under center before, and the talent and health around him on those offenses were substantially better than what he's going to play through tonight. Dallas also has a huge get back defensively into Marcus Lawrence, far and away their best defender, a true end that can set the edge and get after the quarterback. I have not bet this game, I do respect both factions that are against each other. But now that you know ram check Armstead and Alvin Kamara out, I would much rather be sitting on the side that laid Dallas minus four than the side that took the saints plus 6 and a half, even though we're kind of out of market consensus of 6. But that's kind of where we are at right now with this game, just a lot of injury. Dallas clearly the healthier side of the two. And at some point, even though Sean Payton's a great coach, you actually have to have chess pieces to make your coaching kind of come alive and look like it's great and the saints just don't have those chess pieces specifically on offense in the defenses starting to wear down and now teams are realizing how to attack them. And I think Kelly Moore will be cognizant of that way tonight..

"And get started. Wow okay so. Green bay and new orleans are playing jacksonville. Which is crazy sentence. Obviously because what happened with the saints and the hurricane. I wanna start with the green bay offense. Dominique are we underrating. The fact that there are two rookies starting on this offensive line in a guard playing left tackle by we horry talking about. I am not under me as a society. Yes yes i tire. Society is probably underestimating it because they did not lead. Good morning america this morning which is a big deal. It's a big deal. I i talked about this Immediately after the super bowl last year is i remember picking the the eagles to beat the patriots and that super bowl and like i was kind of a loan on that and i said it was because they had better line play and when the line play disparity is as big as. I thought it wasn't that game. That's what happens. But then. I got high on patrick mahomes so high that i forgot things that i know to be true about football and like i saw the disparity in the line play and i'll like nah. I'm gonna keep smoking. This patrick patrimony and then we saw what happened so i think that that still applies in in this situation. I guess that's one of those truisms and football that you have to kind of accept even though is not something that you spend a lot of time. Talking about are thinking about is like if offensive line is not good no matter how good your quarterback and i guess the difference here is. We don't know how good this packers offense alliance. We know that is not as good as it can be. But maybe these guys are gonna come together and do something special but you should be. You should be concerned. It's a thing. But there's i think some of our belief i guess lack of concern about it again. We as zaidi comes from a couple of things one. They didn't play in their stars in the preseason so it wasn't like we saw eras being chased around you know but like trump laura through whatever by these rookies. The other thing is like the packers. Now have a very good recent record of finding drafting developing offensive lineman ellen jenkins. Who's playing plus tackle. Now is exhibit eh. Like he's awesome. I don't know if you can i soon. He can play left alcohol because the packers think. So but wow right. And then josh hires invoice newman or the grace newman was a fourth round draft. Pick this year i am. I didn't know he was starting right. Guard until the packers writer told me. So i i bring that up because otherwise i think like you know the they do have a ton of advantages however like other. Take away from the preseason was at the saints. Have some deutz upfront. And like marcus. Davenport was probably one of the three defensive players who impressed me the most in the preseason again the preseason and he was like playing jags backups and this is really stupid. Probably but you know he's always had that talent so marcus davenport against a guy who's never played left tackle is an interesting proposition Cam jordan is still there there. They have their own rookie peyton turner who haven't seen like i think if the saints have a chance to stay in this thing it's going to start up front and they have really good linebacking group because in the back dominique. Do you know who is starting at corner opposite. Marshon lattimore Because i just looked at the raw you know. You shouldn't because they don't know it hasn't come out so i don't trap. I texted are saints writer and asked he thinks. It's ken crawley of monday. It's it's a problem and you know. Aaron rodgers is is very aware of that rela so you said for them to have shot. So are you saying that. You don't think that the saints. The the jameis winston. No i do. I meant stopping. No i meant specifically say packers offense. Yeah right. I mean you're right the d. line they potentially having advantage there with a d. Line thing about having one corner that you can trust and boy do the do the packers have that alexander. But we're talking about saints right now. The the the thing about having one corner you can trust is it really allows you and not just trust but you can really really trust it allows you to help out other guys who they end up starting over there. Maybe they will be smart or strategic enough to lean safeties in that direction to help them out. Take some pressure off there. And kind of darren aaron rogers. That's the problem is. You can't dare aaron rodgers to do anything because he's good enough to to even be marshall also to. You're really flat demonte. I've no you don't trust anybody. So that's the move you go with all bellichik movies you put lattimore on the other guy you yes but do you think that's your number. Two corner is good enough to to play good underneath coverage in and not have any holes because aaron rodgers as he displayed during the preseason in many drills and is he displayed throughout his entire career can throw a football at the ricki hall so the coverage has to be such that. I i mean it's it's a level of coverage that i don't think is possible especially from a team that doesn't know who their number two corner is going to be so they're going to need a tough spot unless they get pressure is all about pressure. I think 'cause even just alexander for one second okay so opening the komo news little bit credible. Dominique texted me a picture of alexander. Right before this podcast a headshot it was really caught me off guard. I was stunned. Rb singer i was like and also incredible and poor gas stuck in green bay..

"It required offseason surgery so my feeling is he isn't coming back for awhile and who knows if that relationship can stand the test of time with him not producing on the field eventually. If this guy isn't contributing and he's sending out tweets and liking tweets. That are not team friendly at some point. You've just got rid yourself of that situation and to me. There is a possibility that he never plays for the saints again. We'll see. I think it's more difficult to when you have a player that's been described as a having a mere curiel personality. It's a lot easier when you have a consummate leader in the form of drew brees that you know commands the locker room. It's always a little bit more perilous. If you're going to bring him back into the fold and you have two guys that are vying for the leadership role with the starting quarterback position. You don't have that calming influence. That'll be a storyline. That bears watching not only from a wins and losses in a season outlook standpoint. But of course for a lot of you listeners. Out there as you looked at compile your fantasy rosters and identify other talents marquez callaway could potentially be the guy that benefits with huge bump if micheal. Thomas doesn't return defensively when we look at this saints team. They were number two in defensive efficiency. Last year they produce the number one scoring defense in the league over the final nine weeks of the season they lead the nfl and takeaways in quarterback rating allow during that stretch first time since two thousand thirteen. They finished top five in total defense in scoring defense for the same season. When you look at trey hendrickson. They're going to have to replace his sack numbers. You'll obviously need more production out of cam jordan. Who saw his sack numbers fall from. Twelve plus in three previous seasons the seven and a half a year ago incomes peyton turner and pete warner both through the draft. But you do lose some veterans and a long list of them in trey hendrickson the aforementioned malcolm brown kwan alexander janoris jenkins sheldon rank ins and of course alex anza aloni new orleans pain. They've long been thought about as an offensive first team. We've seen that narrative shift over the last couple of years. What kind of performance should we anticipate from defense. Who got to replace a couple of key. Contributors i mean they just need to be healthy on the defensive side of the ball. That's the only way that they can survive this season. Because you mentioned the slew of guys that are not going to be back this year. That really diminish the depth area of this defense. I mean you lose sheldon rankings and malcolm brown and trey hendrickson and you know i just. I'm not sure how they can overcome some of the depth issues now. The frontline talent is still damn good but the other aspect of this unit is the best guys are getting up there as well. Kim jordan and demaro davis are thirty. Two malcolm jenkins turns thirty four before the season's over i mean cam jordan had his lowest disruption rate since two thousand sixteen malcolm jenkins had his worst season since two thousand twelve. And then you have the rumors that are starting to swirl about why the saints moved or tried to move up in the draft to get a corner because marshon lattimore is still facing some legal trouble over this fire. So who knows what's going to come of that and kind of sticking with the secondary here. You wonder if dennis allen is willing to self scout this off season and make adjustments and i understand that dennis allen's ben the reason for the defense of improvement for the saints organization and that unit kind of loves getting in your face and playing man and intimidating you especially in front of a packed house in that dome but the saints defense was the best in the league when they played zone coverage last year yet new orleans played the highest rate of man in the league opponent. Efficiency increased forty two percent against man. So dennis allen doesn't have the horses in the back especially lattimore somehow mrs time. He's got to think about more zone usage. The weakest part of this team defensively was coverage last year. And we know. I'll vital that is in today's game. So you know saints right now are going to face above average schedule of offenses and a top ten schedule. Passing offense is. There's a huge jump up in the run schedule as well going from bottom five to above average this year the dean line still very stout. If if david anya can have another dominant season and cam jordan doesn't regress even further and you can get davenport somehow play more than fifty percent of snaps and contribute like a number know first round talent. Then maybe there isn't going to be you know huge drop off. But i think that's a lot to ask from those three guys the other thing. That's worth mentioning here. Todd is i envision the saints defense being put in worst positions than they have been in recent years hundred percent. Yeah i mean if you look since two thousand seventeen the saints defense has had top five starting field position meaning its opponents. Start backed up when you have drew brees and one point two percent interception rate the last four seasons in you're transitioning to james who's above three and a half percent for his career. I mean i'd bet large sums of money the saints defensive unit putting far worse position than has been and obviously starting field position is huge. It's vital for offenses. You know if you're backed up. Oh sees playbook basically get caught in half and that's just the reality of situation so something to think about when you're when you're gauging the saints defensively. This year is one. It's a very thin unit to a lot of the key guys are getting up there in age and three. I think they're going to be put in force field position than they have been and been accustomed to the last handful years all those questions of course swirling around the saints it make sense why you have a prohibitive division favorite in the form of the tampa bay buccaneers who will seek to defend last year's lombardi trophy to become only the second team to repeat a super bowl champions since the patriots did so in two thousand three two thousand four when lookie lookie. Tom brady was also the starting quarterback there when you look at tampa. This was a franchise pain before. Last season synonymous with futility. We'll get to that in a second odds to win the division a minus a buck eighty five fan duel sportsbook there over under for win. Total sits at seven and half you do have to lay dollar fifty to go over and tampa credit to some of the folks at fox for digging up this little nugget. Before they won the super bowl last year they had the lowest. Winning percentage of.

"Obviously dennis allen their defensive coordinator is still there but the saints you mentioned. They play a lot of time. They play a ton of man they blitz a lot and that is sort of. I think that's less philosophical and more product of the personnel available to them. And suddenly when you start to take away starters and have guys leave like janoris jenkins in the back should've mentioned in the up front. There's a few losses. I do wonder if they'll be a little bit more conservative. So yeah. I guess i'll just mentioned like the so trey. Hendrickson has gone which basically puts more pressure on marcus davenport to step up step up. They did draft and other pass rusher which was a surprise to a lot of people peyton turner so i think there find it at at edge but defensive tackle is an issue i feel gonna be so dramatic and my boys were like or like but it is. I mean this by the way. We're timing defense. That was incredible. It's been incredible and run defense for years now for the last few years. Incredible in a lot of ways but this is sort of like what you start taking the jenga blocks and all of a sudden okay. It's like you got shuttle and david on yamada but wait. David matas suspended for six games. So i guess like you need malcolm roach to ship strap because sheldon rankings is gone linebacker still fine. I think home. I yeah. Demaro davis one of the most underrated car linebackers in the nfl. They probably need a little bit. More from zach bonnin quantum alexandra Warner which. I don't really understand but it really is like you. Just start taking these guys out. And all of a sudden it becomes unclear where the productions gonna come from. Football's violent sport. And when you don't have depth in your third their defense kind of trends older too. I would say in some key spots. Cameron jordan is getting up there. Davis is getting up there. Malcolm jenkins i think these young guys are going to have to play. And i just don't trust jalen dalton. Who is a guy. That i had not heard of before. I just brought up. The arl adds depth chart albert huggins. Have you ever heard of this man. Just hire brunson. Like i don't know these people. And i think with how they play defense do play a lot of too high and like you said they might have to even get even more conservative on the back because they don't have the corners they're going to have to leave those big bodies in there to defend the run on their own and without any mata for those first six games. I don't know how that works out. And if they lose ground to the bucks early. I don't think they're ever going to catch up because he do have so many holes in question marks on the offense. We don't know what that offense is gonna look like the one thing they could always rely on. Whether jew brees is arm looked good or not was he wasn't gonna turn the ball over. He wasn't gonna take sacks and they no longer have it so. Let's paint the optimistic case. I'd say on offense. The optimistic aces. Thomas is in out that long and then you get that sort of you know. Yeah there's a little more volatility but james brings more of an explosive passing attack behind a very good offense flying very good run game and the deep threats like drake. One smith finally breaks out with by the way. This is the last receiver the saints drafted until the latest when they took guy at the very end since two thousand eighteen is when they drafted trae. Quantum is so like the saints. Like y'all have not been stocking. The cupboard covered covered with receivers for quite some time. So anyways optimism so that i can see that an offense basically the optimistic case centers around michael. Thomas gone back sooner rather than later on defense. I think it's another breakout right. Like marcus davenport cement. He he compensates for the loss of trey hendrickson which totally plausible. I think the run defense with only model out for those first six games is going to be rough. But you still have good players in the secondary marcus williams still very good play on the tag and marshon lattimore returns to form. I guess a day bo is is albert corner leg. that's nothing. i said. His dad crazy. It could happen recently. I'm not worried about the defense. As much as i am about offense because i think dennis allen for some reason he's still underrated even though they put together good defenses. When that was like the whole thing in new orleans right was like. Oh they only got a defensive. Dennis allen comes along. They have like top ten de france every year for the last three years. I think he's one of the the sharper. Defensive coordinator like you watch them play. And he's doing a lot of the stuff that guys like brennan staley get a lot of credit for and get a lot of articles written about him. And you never really get that dennis allen. I don't know why maybe it's just. The offense overshadows them and then my reason for optimism is sean payton. We seen before the saints had michael thomas and when they're receiving core was kind of suspect even when you breezes out they had good games i think luke mccown started for them against the the panthers seen that went to the super bowl and almost beat them and like put up drew. Brees type numbers. So i'm not counting out sean. Payton and i think james is talented enough and maybe painting can really him in a bit and avoid those interceptions. If that happens. I think they can be a playoff contender. I don't think they're anywhere. Close to the bucks anymore. No but maybe maybe they can grab a wildcard spot. I don't know just because nfc west going to beat up on each other. The first six games are the packers the panthers the patriots giants washington in seattle. There's i would say like. It's not impossible to go. Five hundred against that group with the panthers giants washington the mix.

Big Blue View

"Chris. The most glaring regression that is notable obviously is the loss of drew brees. And i know last year drew brees wasn't necessarily the same player that he was throughout. Bits and pieces of his time with the saints as a super bowl winning quarterback as an mvp candidate in different parts of his career. He was definitely regressing. He was definitely getting older. And he also wasn't fully healthy and available for the entire season. Big reason why he chose to retire was likely because of those injuries the wear and tear of playing professional football for guy that's around his forties so You know right now. They're tastes jameis winston. I don't think we really have a ton of clarity on. Who is going to be the starting quarterback and the results that they're going to get from their starting quarterback because neither have really proven themselves. And i know taste some hell got the job done playing in a quasi role and he started some football games. They didn't lose all of them so he was successful in that note. Jameis winston's probably their best option to start. But we don't even know if he if he's corrected those issues that essentially got him placed in tampa bay yet. That i think is going to be very interesting to watch. And those are two very different. Quarterbacks tatum hill is he is much more in that kind of modern dual threat mode where he can't hurt you with his legs. He at times is more like a running back who can throw than a classic quarterback but as you said he started some games. They didn't lose all of them. Yes he is capable of being a quarterback they can win with. I think jameis winston when he is on has a much higher ceiling as an nfl passer. He had a really bad turnover problem at tampa bay but that also kind of overshadowed a pretty good ability on his part to play the position yet he would have games where he could sling the ball all over the field but then that that would almost be forgotten by one or two just Terribly ill advised throws where he would send it right to a defender or throw it into triple coverage. Just you know almost because he could. And that i think was a terrible fit with bruce arians who is kind of a yolo play caller in oven. You know his own self. So they almost fit on each other's drawbacks on the offensive side of the ball. But with sean payton you have a very different playcaller. A guy who is he blends west coast and air koryo concepts. He's very good at putting his quarterback in position to make the right decision. I get the ball out quickly and get it out safely. That was what works so so well with drew brees. Now maybe the combination of sean payton and jameis winston will yet temper. Some of winston's Will say bad habits and maybe that could have some of the same effect that pairing. Tom brady even jameis. Winston brady should never even be in the same paragraph as quarterbacks little on the same sentence maybe the same kind of pairing that brady with his judicious placement of the football and bruce arians with his aggression as a playcaller. Maybe that could be somewhat similar to sean payton with his judicious playcalling and jameis. Winston's aggression as a passer. You're not really. You know you a lot to cover their in a lot to really take into account when it comes to making a decision on who is going to be starting quarterback in who even really provides his team with the best opportunity for success. And maybe that quarterback who is the future of the franchise isn't on the roster currently maybe it's going to be somebody that they have to draft in a few years. Maybe bush surprises some people which is probably highly unlikely. But this is a team that the quarterbacks scenario is going to be a maker break for their success in twenty twenty one would also is make or break and mostly break is the guys that they lost and i hit on a couple of these names but the the very notable ones that are not coming back emmanuel sanders who has been a shell of himself over. The last few years jenkins played pretty. Well asked. you're not coming back to play with the saints. He is going to be at tennessee. Titan sheldon rankin who has had some injury issues. Still a talented defensive tackle. They don't really have anybody who's as good to play in the interior. So he is gone. He is not coming back. Alexander anzalone who is no longer going to be a part of this roster who was playing linebacker. Pete warner will likely replace him. And then lastly i think their biggest hit. You're losing trey hendrickson who you couldn't pay over. The off season had a huge year last year with thirteen and a half sacks is now a cincinnati bengal. That's a big loss right there for me. You're losing trey hendrickson. Hendrickson those losses as a whole in the fact that they weren't necessarily able to replace any of those specific guys i think is going to be significantly impactful for if they can you know really do anything successful in twenty twenty one. That is a lot to replace. Yeah and that could also have a big impact on how they play. Defense with jenkins giant giants fans. Know what kind of cover corner he is and how he likes to play corner and that played really well with how the saints wanted to play their coverages. They love pressman coverage they love cover one. They paired it with cover for pretty pretty frequently but they loved pressman coverage they ran it constantly and that starts to get tough to do. If you don't have a pair of really good lockdown corners and losing janoris jenkins could impact that Likewise when you lose children rank children rankings and trey hendrickson that will impact your pass rush now. That could be a lot of the motivation behind drafting peyton turner who is a big long surprisingly athletic edge player. Probably be a four three defensive end but we'll see how that all out you had this defense where it's still talented. You know they still have cam jordan. They still have tomorrow. Davis they still have marshon lattimore. They've got all of those guys who have who were so integral to their success over the past few years but when you have that maybe a little bit of a hole in the coverage if they're still running so much cover one. That's an opportunity. If you if you lose out on those pass rushers that makes it that much harder on the secondary to cover so it will be interesting to see how their defense adapts to these losses. And whether or not that creates opportunities for opposing offenses so chris. Let's discuss best and worst case scenario as we've fully broken down this team for me. I i see their level of quality of play in twenty twenty. One is going to be.

"Fifteen last year at this time. Never would've saw zaven collins was. I personally wasn't familiar with him. Last year a linebacker from from tulsa at this point time last year didn't know much about it. Jalen phillips we knew as a big time recruit and ucla ended up at miami. He played as well as any pass rusher in college. Football last year ended up being the eighteenth pick Jason davis was a late riser. Their kentucky go through some of these other names here. T- greg newsom. At northwestern was the twenty six pick peyton turner from houston was a twenty eighth picks. Stokes from georgia was a twenty th. Pick the rest of those guys. I feel like we. You know we knew the opt-out guys with joe try on and jason away but that's a good number of names of guys who i mean you might have known who they were a little bit but we weren't thinking of these guys is first round pick slasher at this time. Now they weren't household names. They weren't stars and dj. I think it continues to speak to what we talked about the pros and cons of being an opt-out. Football is a developmental sport. Where you have to get reps to develop and become a better player. The only way to acquire skills through repetition and so some of these guys who will be viewed as johnny-come-latelies or one year wonders. Were guys who really the light went on. After years of development on the practice field they finally clicked and they started performing at a high level in games. You talked about all of the mag jones guy who he was the backup quarterback behind two guys. That eventually went on to be atop picks before he got his opportunity to be the starting quarterback and when he got his opportunity he took advantage of it I think we go all the way back. Before joe burrow joe burrow was another one. They kind of came out of left field to be the number one overall pick. It is really important for us just because we don't know the names early in the year..

"Much content on this Thursday, continuing right through it. I am live in Southern California. I'm Jim Roma on the back end. Attempting to get through. But right now we're joined by a defensive lineman for the New Orleans Saints. He was an all conference player in Houston. It was a team captain. There. Led the team of 25 tackles 10.5 tackles for a loss five sacks in five games last year, a member of the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor society. He was the 28th pick overall in this year's draft. The Saints are going to open up against the Packers on September 12th. Peyton Turner is my guest, Peyton. It's good to have you on. How are you? I'm great, man. How you doing? Good. I'm great, in fact, so you signed a contract earlier this month. Let me start right there. I know. Draft is a big big moment. What did it feel like to sign your first NFL contract? Pretty cool. Pretty cool, man. You know, you look at the numbers. You get kind of excited, hard, not get excited looking at that. You know, it's more money than I have recovered in my life. So it's pretty cool. Just structural start your You know your adult life on with the contract like that. Let me to provide a low perspective here when you sign that deal, Cam Jordan tweeted and I quote Damn Peyton Turner's signing bonus almost bigger than my whole first four years in the league. Can't wait for dinner One day hashtag check, please end quote. So what was your reaction when you saw that? And are you going to have to hook up the vets with dinner? Yeah. You know, I heard they're going to hit me for a pretty penny. We can go go out and get a dinner. So, uh, yeah. You know, I'm gonna I'm gonna take care of the events, man. But, Yeah, that was funny. I was actually just finishing up a workout. And then he I guess he had just like this facility. And then I saw that on Twitter. My Twitter is blowing us. I looked down. I saw him quote that so that was funny, but You know, I'm not take the best out to dinner. You know that. I know that I know that. And I know you know that. And that is funny. That's good stuff. Peyton Turner joining us so go back to draft night. Like what did it feel like when you heard your name called and not just having your name called, but finding out you're going to be a saint. Yeah. I mean, I know a lot of guys from like from New Orleans just being in Houston growing up in Houston, so there's always a lot of Saint spends around me. I really like watching through the breeze growing up. You know all the way up into his last game, so that's pretty cool, especially that it's like a great organization like New Orleans. Um, the fan base is just Use here in Louisiana. So that was that was awesome. But to be to be called on the first night was pretty pretty pretty crazy. I knew I was in that 20 to 40 range. Uh, I didn't. I didn't know who was going to get me. You know, you never do. Really, You know, some of the 1st 1st pick this year, but you don't really know where you're going to go. And when you're gonna go so It's always exciting to get that call. Like I said, Go to an organization and a city like New Orleans. I think it's just I mean, you can't really ask for anything better. No, you can't patent Turner joining us You can't because you get a great opportunity to go to a great organization and a team that's in the hunt every single year. You know what's really interesting to me is one of the vets. One of the vets already said this about you quote based on the weight room and leg drills. He's been doing amazing. You can tell. He's got the work ethic. He's going to be awesome and a quote. My question, then is what's it mean to you to get that level of respect? Not just for your ability, but for your grind and for your work ethic. And where does that work ethic come from? Yeah, that's awesome. Uh, you know, I really appreciate appreciate everything that they need to be, Um, you know, on football, of course, but even outside of the game, just like in life and everything Get my life started here. But I mean, it's awesome to get that Get that recognition for my teammates, especially older dude. Uh, but That's just something that I still have developed Just over the years from from even the high school has been, you know, being overlooked because, you know, I told my HDL and just being overlooked. Have that chip on my shoulder and that mindset of how I'm gonna work every day and come in and just try to get better and learn as much as I can. So that's as complementarity and I go about every day. But It's pretty cool to get that recognition from a bit like that. You know, when you talk about coming back from an A C l it's I mean, this is part of the business right? You're going to get hurt. You know you're going to get hurt. It's just a matter of when how how bad how you come back, but there's a toughness involved. For instance, in 2019, according to the athletic, You played most of that season with multiple broken or dislocated fingers. Dana Holgersson said quote He had more sacks. If he had fingers. He can't grab anything. If he could use his fingers. He'd probably have 10 to 15 sacks. At this point. I'm curious. What was that season like for you? And how were you able to play at such a high level through that pain? Right. That was my junior season. So that was the first year coach Holgersson got there. So we're moving to a new defense. I moved out to defensive end. So, uh and I moved out there in fall camp, so I was kind of learning. Learning defensive end as I went, but I mean, I had some success, but I was trying to figure out how to learn my use my hands..

"Name. No chief's fan. You can buy a y'all around. I'm in the. I want to kansas to make to try and grab an to try and move up. Grabbing offensive tackle in the first round was good to fill that immediate role but the trading way that pick to baltimore. I hate it was to baltimore getting landau. Brown was probably one of the best wrapped up for. I think that was. That was probably the smartest choice. I have learned to never question beach as gm that man leave own. The the thing that surprised me was the was who chiefs got with their first pick in the second row. nick bull. I did not expect him to be on the board. Come pick fifty eight. I had to it was like i like the pink. No he went to zoo. He had a really good stats. At mizzou's he knows is go to casey to watch games. So it's i like the pit because he's gonna fit into the earring. Well you'll get into the locker room culture pretty quickly. I feel like so that words honestly for me. The orlando brown penis bolton as well like a for that for me like everything else. That's just filling in and building something. Kansas city needs to do anyway but the most of their front for every position other than on the line on both sides really they kind of had to do a little bit there but really for the offensive line. That was the biggest question for kansas city. Because that's why they got decimated by tansel. He's can i tell you just one thing after we did. We did. ain't watching no more than them trail after away from eleven. No ten twelve. Whatever weeks i mean watch and an orlando brown. Has young people. Forget how to ryan nebraska. He what because he's like twenty twenty three twenty four. Yes i am. Oklahoma ricky shop oklahoma to he was good all right. Well what's your opinion on the new orleans. Soon we grow. We ain't got no reaches all over the place with s warm one reaches all over the place. I look peyton turner. How how does he go in the first round we even get a first round grave from anybody no one them a round round. Nobody at the earliest he would have been in the middle of the second and it took him. He would a billionaire Do we want to look at pete one problem with but again another reach because you could got him. You get a guy. Mu- much let a third. Now i do paulson a deebo. I do like that pig. He's a ball. I do like that. Because he's arrested will between what they did with him. They what they did with the unrestricted. Free agents get into quarterbacks there i like what they did there but the rest of the drive man look really really from today by air a kid i know he will eat short like drew. He built like drew. But he ain't drew and he'll be at the very at the best you get from. Him is backup quarterback. The best you get he does us does compete but if you look at his arm. Strength is arm. Strength is terrible. He can freaked short media throat when he go for that long ball. Note can't do it can't do it. Um dig it dig it another position to meet with the last people coombe baker. He got kind of hands of stone so we got see what paint can do to coaching much. But other than deal this whole draft had been number reaches reaches and rotational players. And you put a rotation a rotational player to go in the first round. I don't allow you do that. I don't know and i don't know why they're banking future on tastes eligible as winston not. I'm sorry i keep going or the seams. The seams are really going to be going through that. That rebound quarterback phase that that they shouldn't be going through eytan plan ahead and not once he's had they had opportunities last five years to draft. Sir tan in the first round and they traded up to get to devante williams in a second round. They got in my mind the best corner in the draft and they got what some people thought was the best running back in a draft. Why is that bad. I don't i don't don't really get it and it's like well. You're already paying. Melvin gordon. Melvin gordon what is he my age. There's nothing wrong with the donkey's draft. There i wish there was but there wasn't The colts they got thrown into the. What are you doing category along with my race and Quit e pay. Look i would have taken quickly pay at seventeen. He was there that's not a bad first round. Pick and then you think about You odhiambo the defensive end. Sean davis the safety. The only thing that the colts got thrown into this was that they really needed some tackles and they didn't address remember. They took sam etlinger in the six round. Just a little fun little thing for carson wentz to think about As i said with my my raiders if they had taken trayvon marriage in the first round and alex leatherwood in the second round. I would have thought job now. The whole thing about. Are they gonna move. Jonathan abram look First of all eric harris has gone thankfully he signed with atlanta. He had one great game with to pick sixes other than that. He didn't know how to cover him but they they signed Carl joseph back who actually had a good year with cleveland. The guy the I didn't want to correct Sycamore on the air. But the guy diablo. They drafted out of west. Virginia he he or vodka. I think he's actually being moved to linebackers. That's not another safety but Jonathan abram has trouble staying on the field because he's injury prone and also he won't shut up and the late hits. I mean how old are you. I knew guys in high school that would do late. Hits and then they would get penalized and benched in yelled at punished and then they learned their lesson. The schedule hasn't learned it. It's like when draymond keeps talking keeps talking gets teed up keeps talking. Don't do it don't do it. Shut up shut up your thrown out the saints now. I thought getting paulsen day go. In the third round was great value. He was one of the best cornerbacks in the pac twelve at stanford but the defensive end peyton turner. Some people don't like him Pete werner the the linebacker some people thought was a bit of a reach in the second round. And i'm not an ian book guy. I don't know why you would draft ian book in the fourth round when you're already paying a chunk of money for tastes them hill and jameis. Winston is there if listen if if anybody's in the seventh round i will never criticize seventh round. Pick unless that pick is for jerry burke. I'm never going to criticize it if he in book is still sitting there in the seventh round go ahead and bring them in the fourth round so as i say we judge these a lot of people like to give letter grades you know. How did you do not do in the end. We won't really know for a while so to say winners. And losers i think is the is the bad Is the bad call. Now remember when kyle shanahan was asked about Will jimmy garoppolo beyond the roster on sunday and his quote was. I can't guarantee that anybody in the world will be alive on sunday. So i can't guarantee who will be on our roster on sunday so that goes for all of us remember what he said that and by the way shanahan politized to garoppolo for that he said. I totally bombed that on monday. I hated how that came off. I talk to jimmy about it right away. I didn't realize that. When i did it a person i have a relationship with who sometimes when he asked me what i think is silly questions. Sometimes i mess with him back. And that's kind of what i was doing. That was between me and that guy. That has nothing to do with jimmy. When i said. I don't know if we'd be alive on sunday. I was just trying to get not get my typical answer of guys. Anybody can be traded if you get a bunch of ones john trade. Me and i shouldn't be here on. Sunday. that's the answer for every person on our team but jimmy situation is if he isn't here on sunday i would be disappointed because jimmy is a quarterback who has played one year full year and took us to a super bowl played at a high level. He said some unfortunate injuries. But i do believe in jimmy as a person and he's shown what he can do on tape all right now. Microsoft low. The nfl network says that several forty niners players. Including george kittle and others called. Kyle on sunday and said coach. I'm alive. I just wanted to let you know. So they're throwing that.

"I look at the secondary and I feel like They should address their secondary with this first pick, but I'm not sure there's not great and that I'm not sure there's some like he wasn't in love. Hey, mentioned him to me somebody else mentioned and probably right before it and later in the day, also, so his name started rising up. Actually, today is the first time I heard him. I heard it from three different guys. Uh, which is kind of that's what happens. What about looking at the tight ends position? They are in need of a tight end. And nothing. You don't not this high. No, no, no. They lost Jerry Cooke to your point level, But then they don't need this. I'm not in this draft. They they They lost some big names. I mean, obviously breeze, but Jared Cook, right, Generous. Jenkins. They lost Emmanuel Sanders, Trey Hendricks inside with the Bangles. They lost some good players. You need some weapons, and there's still some DBS you could actually trade for in this draft. Saving Howard. You could still get him. I wonder if you know Gilmore from from the Patriots last year, there was talk of him. So there still might be ways to get some defensive backs. But listen, LeVar, even if If you don't love guys here at this pick for defense it back. You can't just forcing. Okay, we're gonna make this car started here. Yeah, That's what I'm saying. So, if so, which poison do you choose? Do you choose what you need at a position where there may not be talent there. Do you look at a position that has talent there that has not been looked at or tapped into as of yet. But say that well, I think you don't need to take. I regret it to be like, man. We forced by position, but which one? Do you like him? So? So? How do you choose at this point? Do you just take best on the board? How? How do you choose your decisions that you need? Right? I don't know. I mean, you've been right this far. This'll far end You've been right. So I mean, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna argue with you. Yeah, you know, I wanted because it's that delicate balance between The best player on your voice on your board, trying to also feel the biggest need that you're have you hope in most years that those those things line up Sometimes it doesn't but what? You don't want to reboard Don't reach for player that isn't worthy of being picked at this spot. He's not necessarily grated in this round. Where's that? That friends 1st 2nd round talent. You just don't want to stretch because you have a big need. Take a really good player here because you can't go wrong with good players on your roster, and they just did take that player. And, of course glaze. You're batting 1000. Peyton Turner is the guy the Russia from Houston, He goes to New Orleans. The Green Bay Packers on the clock Fascinating. And if you missed the big story today will tell you why we come back after this draft night Live. Jay Glazer, Bucky Brooks, LaVar Arrington and Kevin Burke are right here. Fox Sports Radio. Colin Here for Jersey. Mike subs You know, I love Jersey Mike's one right by my house, and I even move. There's one of the new house and my go to is the number seven turkey and provolone. You know what makes Jersey Mike so different? Nobody has the quality and freshness they do, and I know because I'm a big fan. They.

"Accomplished Route Runner and you talk about if we said before the draft. Hey, if there's one team that would need wide receiver help, more so than anybody else. Which team would that be? I think it's pretty easy. At least in my book. It would have been the Ravens. Well, yeah, I'll tell you. Green Bay's disappointed right now. They had was shot. Bateman circled. That was gonna be the draft pick for them. Havens. Interesting because this draft is chock full of slot receivers or small, quick guys, guys like Vontae Smith guys like Jalen Waddle. You don't get a lot of guys like a shot. Bateman. This contested catch guys. Guys that are bigger can play on the outside a little bit more. And you know you are here Chase go. He was the next best big guy out there. So kudos to the Ravens. Forgetting that guy and a contestant gets guy I think will be very good for Lamar Jackson Guy who throws up kind of those contested catch balls on the fly as he's making things happen with legs. Yeah, he could play inside and outside, And as Dave mentioned, he runs a Ah, full route Tree. Good wide receiver. Good pick for the Baltimore Ravens. Right there. I'll tell you something that On the most telling things that you can see. And recent history of free agency. And this league is the number of wire receivers that declined to play with Lamar Jackson. It was straight up embarrassing. The number of y receivers that said, and use the Baltimore Ravens as a selling point to another team to get the number up. I mean, guys just did not want to go and play with Lamar Jackson Juju Smith Schuster turned down more money to go to Baltimore to Tonto. Echo your point. So but but I can. I can understand that and no knock on Lamar Jackson. But if you look at the downfield passing game of the Ravens if I'm a wide receiver Don't want to maximize my ability to toe be productive. You know? I don't know if you love him, don't you? Oh, yeah, I'm saying we don't need him or wide receiver. Just right. Right. Give me the ball levels multi tight and said Senator Gregg Roman offense. I think you were shot. Bateman's compass. Probably Keenan Allen. If you're if you're looking for a comparison, pretty good cop who he is, I think that's who he is and receiver And I think that You know, I think if anybody in Lamar could use that, I mean, you look around at what he's had the last couple years. He hadn't had a receiver like that. Willie Snead was the closest thing he had. So whatever you believe in Lamar Jackson, if you believe in him if you don't he's got all the weapons. No excuses Now. Saints Now on the clock pick number 28. Out of 32 in the first round. Broncos. Okay, In case you're just joining us, take Patrick's or Tan, the cornerback out of Alabama with the ninth overall pick Saints here. Was doing some homework for the draft and I had to go back and look to make sure I saw this correctly. Nothing. They're gonna pick a quarterback here for sure. The New Orleans Saints have not picked a quarterback in the first round. Says 1971. Archie manage last first round pick at quarterback for the Saints. Yeah, that's that's interesting, and they've got Jamis Winston and Taysom Hill there two years. That's what I thought. Kansas City was a long time before. All right, you know, because you went from Todd Blackledge toe Pat Mahomes, but, uh, no. You know what the Saints could be in a lot of things here. They had to do a cap cut because the Drew Brees things so they're kind of hurting all over. You could see defensive line could see a corner could see a wide receiver lifetime or still sitting out there. They do need receivers on that. We don't know who's gonna win that competition between tasting Helen James Winston, either. I think that I think that thing is already done. I mean, we saw it taste him. He'll play the quarterback position here in Denver, and I just was not impressed with him playing the quarterback position. Jamis Winston is a guy who has all the tools he can read the defense. Everybody talks about the interceptions that he threw 30 interceptions and but they never talk about the touchdowns. You know, I'm saying 35, I think when you go back and you look at his numbers Historically speaking, the guy's got almost 20,000 yards passing in four years as the number one overall draft pick, and he and his numbers look like bread farms. But you know what? They didn't win enough games with the coaching staff that they had in the past. And I think the coaches that they had in the past just didn't know how to maximize him. If you put him with a good with a good guy like Sean Payton, look for Jameis Winston to being a pro Bowl this year, then what he got. It's gonna be that Russia is going to Peyton Turner out of Houston got flying up the boards with the guy. Great. Great. No, look at Big Al's disappoint my goodness, man. That's exactly what I thought We were going to get at the top of the second round, man. That's my guy. Oh, my goodness. I shall be your guy. He's just gonna play a Norman. Oh,.

"I thought otherwise, when he had to play up when he had you know what they played seven on seven. Hey, was obviously Good there, too. So I thought Richie Grant look pretty good. I mean, overall like, said the DBS for the American team are just far away so much talent out there. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do in the game. Yeah. You know who we haven't talked about Rochet. I thought he had a good day, and we didn't talk about him. Yeah, we don't talk about him at all. I thought he had a great day. Um, I I thought that I thought he played pretty well. Um, hand. I'm just trying to run down the list of the list of names and you know that I had an A plus plus day and in the other day in the Plus column is that we're sharing the American. He said she was one that I should have. Should have jotted down. I think he's in the national team, actually, but it just it just sorry. Just kind of dawned on me, okay? Yeah. No, I definitely noticed him today. Um, I I could remember which team he was on, but I remember definitely member seeing him earlier today. Um, you know, I saw on the office line and I was on Deonte Smith. Ah, lot of people talk about a great day. You had a little bad syriza in there, though he got put on skates. Pretty bad by your your boy was a Ricky. Um, but and then he false started on the next play. And then he kind of pick himself back up. Start recovered again. I thought he looked I thought he looked all right, trying to get the other players that I made a mental note on William Bradley King Tell you liked him out of Baylor. Yeah, I made a medical note that I saw a couple of good reps out of him s O just guys that I'll be focused in on dialed in on now that I've got a You know, baselines. He who jumps out at you tomorrow and then the guys that jumped out at you. They see if they continue that with any kind of continuity the way that they played today. Well, if we're staying on the offensive line for just a moment, I mean, clearly Alex. Mother would look every bit as you'd expect him to be another first round guy. Landon Dickerson, that interior offensive lineman was getting some notes from some of the scallops for some of the people out there about his leadership. He was a guy that was kind of helping everybody get lined up and and look good. And you sort of expect that out of an Alabama player. But we both those guys I thought looked really, really good out there and improve their stock offensive line, Missy, you're moving through here. Other notes I had in Cleveland left for a little bit. But here good. And until before he left, I thought he looks really, really good out there. And, Yeah, you know, I want to get to my, uh, my tight end that made the catch of the day tree training kitty out of Georgia. He cuts his back shoulder. Where he had to make this adjustment, and he caught it. One handed now again, placements everything, and it wasn't necessarily intended to be a one hand catch. But the fact that he did that number 87 Toward his body, one handed catch falling away. That was Unbelievable kind of body control for a guy that big Yeah, I vaguely remember seeing that I think of the corner of my eye. It's tough. It's tough to catch everything right. You just trying to flip from, you know, from play to play. I thought overall, your guy Carlos passion. Play pretty well. Look. Put him in the plus column today. Cailan Hill. I think he had you put him in the plus column today. Peyton Turner. Aaron Robinson, both those guys. I think I was trying to go back over and Jordan Smith look good. And one of the ones, baby, right? Yeah, I didn't see much and I like he's got we liked. We both agreed that we like him. You know, coming into this thing, so he's one were brought. You have to have to keep an eye on tomorrow. But overall, you know what I think was a solid day one with practice getting cut short, little bit. The rain It's nice to get out there on getting kinda gets the baselines on some of these guys and You know, we'll we'll continue to keep our eye on the Quarterback position, but I'm not sure the savior is in this group. No, I'm not either linebacker a couple guys I want to throw at you and see if you had a chance to check him out that a cage, a Brit. At Auburn and Gabriel Cox at L s u Cox looked pretty good out there. Uh, Britt. I only saw a couple of plays every time I got. Look, he was jogging back to the sidelines. You know, kinda one of those things that I just happen to miss him a bunch, But, um, I thought the kid unless you look pretty good, Cox, I thought, you know he was good in coverage. Um, I saw play and I'm struggling to remember which tight and it was on where he went back, and, um, rerouted. The tight end, causing a throw to the middle of field that just dropped, you know, dropped a no man's land because he rerouted his man, and then it effectively wouldn't draw the penalty. So you know, it's good to see good coverage instincts out of him as well. Yeah, he's got a lot of speed. I mean, you know, we're kinda have that conversation about Charles Chest Surat and just about how what he could be as kind of a Moldable piece of clay. The real Cox is a lot of just the athleticism that you like and then get Ellis Hughes defense was not very good this year, so he was kind of one of the few standout players, but I wanted to go to see what he looked like in this setting. And for day one. I think you just saw the athletics everything. Usually that's what happened on day. One is just athleticism shows out. These guys who are athletic freaks. They get an opportunity to kind of do that before. Really. The coaching is set in. And then, as the week wears on, you get a chance to see what what is the coaching like? How are these guys taking that information and processing it out there onto the field? Yeah, and that's really You know that? That's a large part of what this is about. You know, this whole process isn't necessarily just going out winning a rep. It's going out there. And, you know, how does how quickly does this guy pick up information? How quickly does he adjust to the guy? These covering? How out Well does he intake and digest the information that we're giving camp and then apply that to his overall game, and you know it's a chance for the scouts to get to know these guys, his players and as human beings as well. You know it is a large part of football that people forget this it mad and they are just digital representations that are the exact same and you know, like I stopped..
