Monday Night Football (MM #3904)

"The NASA minute. With Kevin mason. Back in the 1970s, when ABC created Monday Night Football, with Howard Cosell and Don Meredith and Frank Gifford, it was all the rage it was revolutionary. It changed the game of professional football. I talked a couple of months ago where I thought the game of well, not just professional football, but sports broadcasting in general changed thanks to the new mega cast that ran most Mondays on ESPN2. That's Peyton Manning and his brother Eli, basically, while hosting a party, I guess you'd say, with guests popping in and out and kind of talking about the game, we're watching the game, but it's not really the play by play, and I kind of don't know what to do with myself tonight because they're not on. They're not on every game this season. They're not hosting every game, but I found that I watch more Monday Night Football now than I ever have in my entire life. And that includes years where I had to go host Monday Night Football parties when it worked in radio. It's changed the way I watch sports. And again, I've watched more Monday Night Football this year than I have in well forever. I think it's going to change a lot of things. It'd be interesting for me to see NASCAR kind of try the same thing.

NFL Picks and Predictions Ahead of Week 1

"About the nfl week. One right around the corner where you been doing. Our nfl picks podcast tomorrow. But is there any sort of early liability that you're already having to move numbers a little bit just based off of where the actions coming in. I've seen a number of small road favorites even non conference road favorites which typically red flag. But i'm having trouble talking myself into some of these dogs as a as a senior trader. Is there something you're keeping your eye on there like an eighty twenty split already that you're you're seeing so you don't like the lions and i do to live not not to win outright but san francisco strikes me as that team the forty niners that is going to ruin everyone's survivor contest. Everyone's three-team teaser. They're just it's too easy. I've been gambling for too long and al and you know as as the guy works behind the book bets like those. It's too easy dangerous showing you. I mean you're talking to guys who are considering the texans one mixture of lawrence and three point road. Favorite team was more than fifteen last year in survivor pool. You have to go those routes if you pick the same stuff everybody else that's gonna pick you're never gonna win. Need those good teams at the end of a chance. Someone all so i don't this respect. Respect the texans. But you know i think basically when you go into week one you know what sides are going to need right. We're going to need the lions to beat parleys. We're going to need bears games interesting. I think that we'll we'll see some decent sharp action that's been driven up. They still have the shawn watson we know. Travelers is gonna be good but peyton manning threw how many picks in his rookie season a little rough. So i don't think that's a slam dunk. Our road road favorite. But yeah i mean you know who are gonna need the near the bears against the rams.

"The patriots game in foxboro correctly there was earlier in the was in the first half of the season. Outraged that richard sherman. I'm writing. I want wanna travel back in time until two thousand twelve million meena that we get to talk about this on. Bill simmons podcast. That game is very upset. Yeah that was a week. We assists tony. Four twenty three c right so weak. Seventy scored six points. You had basically you weren't scoring until week eight. Then all of a sudden it took off fear in the twenty s. And so that's up to the point is pump your brakes if these guys have some bad games early on in season. Because that's gonna happen. I've almost sure. But like everything we see and i think it is very very positive for these guys. Long-term how many cases 'cause roxburgh burger. Pittsburgh is an obvious. One wilson that i seattle year were almost made the made the nfc championship gatland really. Could've that was a brutal. Should horrible come. And then mack. Jones says as a chance. I think to be a quarterback on a good plath team but for the most part this doesn't happen right. 'cause i can't even really remember any other examples from this century of like rookies coming in shepherding attendance. Six eleven and five team that was actually built to be. I think the are gonna be really good. I keep saying it. I am more than willing to admit when they're when my team's not good. I think this team as a lot of talent. I think they can do a lot of things on both sides of the ball and even like stuff like our our kick kick returners and stuff that they just didn't that fell through the cracks cracks. Last year's. can i ask you bill for some fancy advice. Related to the patriots. Yom so i'm in a. I'm in a league with danny kelly dynasty league. It's in all danny's high school friends buddy. Nato isn't it to. I want the first year. I was a major ancient ancient again. He's never want. It's not a big deal. Not like he has a fancy you in the playoffs last year. Meena i ever one. He's he's so somatic now i took. I took you down in the playoffs last year. And then era. And then frigging alvin kamara six touchdown game. I have to be myers in this league. And i feel proud like that was a very very deeply. It's huge rosters. We have like it's a dynasty league like major no. I felt like he was like a real deep pool for me. And i feel like i nurtured him like a little baby bird. He's about to the rescue dog offers for him. And i feel. I'm so in the officer. Enticing a smile sanders. My involves a pick but i love colby and i feel like him mag jones could be special. What do you think. Danny asman this on the fantasy pod. I i worry with the pats. They're going to have like six guys or between thirty. Eight fifty five catches. That'd be my fear. I watching last year. I felt like he was open all year easily. And who is the. Who's the other receiver we had is not on the team anymore. I'm blanking the guy wanted not door set the oh bird bird. She was open to a lot. But cam was you know. The ball was flying all over the place but we did. Have those guys were open. It wasn't like they were like blanket. It wasn't like some other years but I think he's going to be third down guy but i do think john smith kinda steps stem a little bit. I think they're going to have to tight ends field like more than any team in the nfl. Easily hunter henry. If you gave me eleven games for him right now. I'd probably take it right. Is that yes i would trade for mouth centers. I actually i think you should trade jacoby buyers for about sanders in a pick. I'd vote for that. The person in our league and listening. We're not putting it up. It's too late nine ten. Our app an mvp fan. Mahomes is five to one rodgers. Ten one brady twelve to one josh allen. Thirteen to one prescott seventeen one out. See that lamar seventeen. One stafford seventeen one year guy. Rusts is twenty two one. Herbert twenty-one kylie's twenty three to one then it gets silly there's really no other great options And you wanna go running back who never went but there can raise fifty to one it. Just my back is seventy five. I made all these you which one jumped out. Which one did you like. I liked josh allen. Obvious is josh allen. So i look back at the last like ten years of. Mvp wards. And it's nine quarterbacks and adrian peterson and every quarterback has won at least twelve games race me at least so matt word. Thirteen and three matt ryan went. Eleven in two thousand sixteen. And and i am saying the quarterbacks one but you know what i mean yeah. These teams need to be elite. I think in a quarterback has to be elite leading them. I think that the bills could finish with like thirteen wins. It's just the most obvious one to me That really stood out. I think jack has a good chance like dc. The cowboys winning thirteen games Stafford maybe in the rams that they really going to run and if they can stay healthy is a good one. But i'd say josh allen is by far the most obvious when there..

"Stream get your tv together at direct tv dot com compatible device required. Content varies by package. All right we can make this fast. Just nfc south by in tampa. But i think there's a second playoff team in this division real and saints. Aren't you you. You caught the james. I see that look in your eye bill. That's janus. I i actually fleiss. What's interesting about the nfc south to me. Is i think you can make a case for each team right. Francesa was on this pod last week and made this whole saints case the saints over unders nine. And he's like that's ridiculous. They all must be at the super bowl last year. Their quarterback couldn't throw deep pass. So they're gonna have a quarterback that connections threw a deep pass like you can't tell me there in eight nineteen next year. That's crazy And it's sean payton the infrastructure. They have some blue chipper. So i get it like yeah. Could they go ten and seven. Would it be shocked. Atlanta goo fits that classic sleeper profile of terrible. You know fourth quarter luck last year. They had some injuries. They got a new coach Kyle pits all. Thanks so i could see that. And then carolina who is twelve to one that when that visually have the worst odds. But carolina's over i think is like seven after eight. They have good guys man like like they have a couple like studs and then if you think darnold he's better than bridgewater. They were in games for a while. The matt rule thing. I don't know we out of those three ten and seven. I'm just i'm presenting the cases mean it has like any of them. No i think the saints have the chance of making the playoffs. The parliament of saints is depth. Really i mean. They cannot lose anyone and they've already lost a people for the perception season. No michael thomas. As much as i love marquis calloway who alluded to That's very very thin. Group still Obviously very good offensive line and they'll have some other guide. The saint the rule at the saints. Is it some other dude. They've picked up the street. Who's got ten catches virgin guards and then on the other side about this this defense. I think we've been kind of taking for granted for a while. Is being really good over the last three or four years under dennis allen who still defensive coordinator but Henriksen is gone. They're hoping painting turner. They drafted can step marcus. Davenport looks fantastic. opposite cam jordan but david on your motto is a sneaky loss to suspension first few games of the season and then in the secondary. It's not a hundred percent clear to me who's playing cornerback. Opposite marshon lattimore again. Another loss ginormous jenkins tight jackrabbit. You i think officially changed his name. But in the books to jack rabbit. Jenkin notre cinco. This is what they had like. Yes all those years where we were like. Oh the saints. The cap is unreal. Put it on credit card. Well the bill came due and guys had to leave and you're still good team with a lot of really good players. Many mentioned rayo davis is amazing. But marcus williams is really good but when you start letting that depths walk suddenly you become you be. You're just becomes kind of fragile. So i think they have high upside especially winless anything like he did in the preseason. I just think that upside can get knocked down pretty quickly with injuries. Would you think. Danny so i i like the the most. I think it's the most logical and obvious so bill. You texted me this awhile ago. It's like there's always a weird team that makes playoff is is there. A weird is is our world where the panthers are the weird team that makes so that. That's why i brought it up. Because i think this could be the division that weird team. We're going to ruin three playoff teams west. Then the weird team has to be one of these. Nfc south teams the vikings. I guess it'd be weird. I think it'd be really really weird of to. Nfc teams made the playoffs. I be staggering bizarre to me. It's possible wash. we'd have dallas. And and i just don't think i don't think houses a playoff team. I don't see it but the giants at the eagles their out so we'd have to be dow's washington. I think it's more realistic. That it's one of these. Nfc south gains. But yeah the carolina thing. They were five eleven last year but it didn't didn't totally feel like a five eleven team to me. I felt like they were in games. They had some good showings against good teams They have a couple of really good players on both sides. And i do. I thought they were. Well coached the games. I watch things. Well coach i think like overachievers. Almost there it's most likely they're year away from being a competitor a contender. But i look at like their defense is very young and they've got some guys that could really make jump like brian. Burns was a favorite of mine coming out of the draft. He's looking really good so far he could have this he could. He could have a superstar season this season. When there's the support of the year kind of sleeper buzz with them And then like derrick brown. One of their top picks from last year. He's exciting player. I don't know there's just. They have a lot of young exciting players. Jeremy chan jc horn. Dante jackson if they if they can get it to come together. The defense could be to could take a jump. And i think that there's enough talent in his panthers offense especially that sam darnold can if even if he's just like neutral even if he's just average lee right there yet average that he is to good offense and so i don't believe it. I mean league. Average for sam darnold would be a mammoth fazakerley. He's been it's possible I love the schema. Loved the skill players. Do not love that offensive. Line in that removes consider for me other than like taylor. The entire left side line is an issue on the other side of the front seven. Actually we like Till snow their defensive coordinator. I think a really job but a lot of holes in that secondary. So it's it's they're interesting place because they're like a rebuilding team in many ways and they're very young But i think there is some pressure to compete now and also pressure. This is one of the teams. Where as you're watching the other quarterbacks tear it up in the preseason this the teams where the fan base does not feel great about that. And i think oh i dude yeah i mean imagine if you're authors fan i mean. Jc horn looks. He looked really good in the preseason when he did play play. He's super sticky super aggressive. Press man corner but lake. Justin feels was there. Mac does are there you know. So that's tough. And even how about this 'certain was there. They read to take it. The wrong guy right did took horn ahead of 'certain and everybody is like beck is an absolute all time you know could be a stud rookie right. Lacombe in for pros and all that stuff One thing with the nfc south. I forgot to mention they. Put the afc. The nfc says sure see get the jets and then you have all those nfc's.

saints nfc fleiss Francesa parliament of saints marquis calloway carolina cam jordan marshon lattimore rayo davis sean payton michael thomas dennis allen sam darnold Henriksen bridgewater tampa marcus williams super bowl Jenkin

"There was the touchdown which he could have run from. It was just a simple sony but it could have been from anywhere on the field is court but there was one earlier where remastered who's also like one of the running backs in the lake. It was a counter bash concept so they the guards pull trae follows them. Most runs away keeps and he gets the first down. But if you wash trae lance on that play he could have run eighty yards and you realize that that is the nightmare situation like bill. Think how good the niners run game has been with jimmy garoppolo array like they were placed in the playoffs enduring that super bowl run where they ran like eight straight runs now. Imagine jimmy garoppolo is one of the three best running quarterback running quarterbacks in football. It's just a nightmare. I get it. I just never a molder than both. The i've never seen the platoon thing. It has not this is goes back to dallas in the seventies. It's just never worked. So i think it's cute and i think ultimately it could be a little saint see but i still feel like it. Screws the other guy. I think quarterback. You're the driver. But by the way. I wanted to the rams dini the the big faith thing with with golf gone from to stafford and mcvay as the torture genius like. It's got to be the key building ferraris right in a garage. She's spending a year building. This awesome whatever model ferrari and then this terrible driver comes in and like guardrails with it and he just must have baked. You could read between the lines at a lot of gossip. I think it like probably like drove him nuts. Oh in that playoff game last year when the guy broke his thumb who came in as the or. What app on your concussion offered. Yeah got the concussion. It's like i. i think mcveigh was so fired up to win a game without goff with just like pulling up street and winning the playoff gave anyway so i think he i'm with both you. I think he's going to have a lot to prove this year with. I mean if you seize impossible if he listened to him how he was talking to the different guests on on coach. I know i'm plugging in rapid it. Really i thought it was a looming bonus involved. How many times. I have to say it again. I can't remember anyway Honestly it was like illuminating. They're so competitive with each other and they all started out together sort of like there appears to start out with and they're i. I'm maybe just reading too much into it. But i really do think he's like man. I'm tired of this tired of hearing about shanti tired of hearing about all this stuff. Let's let's bring it back to like what i did in two thousand eighteen. Do you think is going to be like hi. Fits and craig like eight years from now. Fan just just out doing other china to destroy yes absolutely so we talked about the rams talked about the niners which you're i'd like having fans of teams because nobody knows their own team more than the real fan like i know with my team. I think my team has a chance to go. Twelve five. Eleven and six. The thing i worry about is the gilmore. Thank the gilmore. Thing is the deal. It's the guillotine hanging over the season. I think we can get by it. Maybe we can beat miami. I think we'd be miami week one but ultimately the destiny of this team. We still need somebody who could shut down the other teams best receiver. And that's what he does and that's what he's one of the best in the world and he's not gonna play the first six games. It makes me nervous. So what makes you nervous about. The seahawks meena I i think. Danny and i are harder on the seahawks. Don't cover the seahawks and we are like you guys see. Our public face are dark. Fan thoughts we attack. That's been going for dania this bill. Our friendship is like since it predates russell. Wilson certainly twenty eleven to two thousand ten or eleven so like a message. Board friendship like seahawks to get into the particulars boy is. We share our darkest thoughts who had each other on that. Oh my god. You see daryl taylor in the preseason selectric you know i would never tweet. That shared.

"What. What number is it. I think we passed it day. The truth i mean that's what tom has done He deserves all the credit. Now he's gonna spoke about people that helped us along the way but he has flat kept himself healthy and It's it's extremely impressive. Pay if you listen to drive to my speech in canton but there was some booing all at brady. We're not gonna reference town. Which is it's going to be important for him to get ready to hear those alien phil to you right. Are you gonna leave that or now. We would never both tom brady okay. We'll see we'll see my. I noticed there was that. When tom brady gets inducted into the hall of fame on the first ballot in two thousand thirty five not line think so people miss that. But that's a good joel that it's only when you get on the spot and not you know three weeks later but thank you but you know. Does he play more years hertie. It wouldn't surprise me so i don't believe anymore. I mean i felt like you could have played a near forty. S if you haven't had the next thing Ultimately if you if you had somehow been able to keep your body you would done all that training stuff and the physical stuff to keep you there. But you actually had a thing. That breeze had to do it. You had like a real this thing and they are funny. cooper and stop playing miss problems And had to give up. His career does like that. "Seated in your cell phones or turned all that is not true. Okay yeah that. Is that a lie because after an nfl game every player is their high fiving. Recap the game. They're calling home and the plane takes off just fine so maybe not street legal. But it's a fact so yeah but the answer. Your question is yeah. I missed the guys. You missed a lot room and you get to see him. Every day. we still keep in touch. Dr ronald colts was the broncos. I saw in canton which was awesome. That was the best part about celebrate with high school teammates. france college You know tolls broncos but Being together every day certainly special. How aware as a player you of the media narratives and all that stuff i mean. It's much tougher. Now in the twitter era and i think you look at the base of the twenty five and under quarterback even the five rookies. We have they've grown up with their phones and looking at their phones and constant feedback and texting. And all this stuff. Were you able to shut that out like the stuff like the manning versus brady when that really became a thing. Are you an aware of it or you don't care love your shortly aware of its But you know. I mean i just can't take away from what you what you need to be doing. And right i mean studying. The foul watching practice fell talking to the receivers. Think the teams that can can block out the noise you know. Certainly social media is a huge part of it. But i mean we can't be checking that when we should be in the playbook missing a blitz reader blocking assignment. So i'll take the good players out there haven't figured out it sorta. How time breach of it but For me you're certainly aware of it but at the same time it's easy to focus on the team you're playing You know each way you must. They must drive you crazy. Guessing is how easy it is to be a quarterback in some ways in two thousand twenty one with the way. They've changed some of the rules. I mean you're you come up in. The last era of quarterbacks can stole really get crushed wide receivers gone over the middle. Be careful There's throws us weren't able to make because you might be leading wide receiver into a concussion. You know and now you look at it the game so much more wide open. The offenses are so much more innovative. And everything is geared toward these quarterbacks guys strong for five thousand yards that you never would've guessed would be five thousand yards when you're watching. How do you get frustrated. Like wh what do you think about as you know. I get frustrated. I'm a fan reporter backstop full harper. The game by dad taught me that you know you hear about.

"And the rain tribes tried to stop but right just we were certainly on on On confidence in emotional high going into that super bowl to have the kind of career you had. Do you have the kicked in the nuts. A couple times in that first third of the careered have some some brutal losses because it kind of teaches you when you're waking up at five in the morning and all that shit like Do you how do you want in the first. Let's say three or four years. How does that change the course of your career or does it does it. Not you certainly You certainly have a good point my first year at three and thirteen and by saying went thirteen three. I remember jim mora head coach Design don't ever take for granted right there. It's hard to win one game in the nfl. Now you got a little twelve to get into the play offs especially maybe thirteen with seventeen game season. Then you get the playoffs. You better wait each playoff game planning spray team. So i think i learned early on that. Winning is hard. Don't ever take for granted. But i used to tell by our rookies that were coming in and like their first season like we got fourteen to rice and we follow it up for thirteen and three i go. I just had to tell you this is not. It's just not how it is right to the nfl. But when you do that right or you played the patriots and your win super bowls. It does have become the norm. But it's not it's different. Yeah what bill for suitable to play in. We had devastating losses that season before in playoff games would probably lawn devastating and the kind of games that probably could have broken up the band. I we're gonna make changes we've gotta get rid of got gotta get a new leader and we didn't do that. You know we stayed the course jeff the same players To sort of like i said worked a little harder. Maybe that was even possible. Had a few more brags me got over the hump the next year to get back to the big so then eli comes into the league and like it his third year he just runs the slate whence four playoff games. Realize what the hell ninety years out there. Yeah giving home homefield way overrated right getting a by who needs it right. You go to dallas go to green bay. Negative twenty degrees and tom pulpits face freezing. All you'd be ready for same harvest deal so yeah that was that was that was typically. Eli right it's pretty easy and that was that was a fun year. obviously We weren't in the super bowl that year back in two thousand eleven everybody in our family. It feels like you're part of that so rank it was. It was a full on runner You're doing the monday night. Football with them with trade and talk about it in the second. You guys are obviously closed. But you're also the quarterbacks of these teams overlapping for over a decade there. And it's being the pilot of an airplane your novel out of time to worry about some other pilot on another airplane. But how much did you guys talk during that stretch. Did you watch giants games like did you feel like you had to be there for him as the older brother or was it just like you try not to think about it because it was too big of a distraction. Funny i mean. I think it'd be trying to lean on each other. Tell you the truth Certainly when playing common opponents bill we used to share information. Playing the cowboys. I mean. that's the first call making eat. You know what was y'all stalin damarcus. You know what do you think that extended thinking third a central huge advantage. It's a huge advantage to have a sibling in the spam businesses. You any bill and we or get out together. Maybe what twice me. All these unusually around our isotope all you know talk about some hindsight upstairs some things we're working on so You know really tried to pull for each other a bill to get some free times. That was really not that much fun. you know. Remember when the balls fight against each other and sue bad a big about that would have happened for me and eli. That would have been probably pretty miserable. Because i've been on both sides of it's the greatest feeling in the world and when you don't win it it hurts you take it was it's so that would have bothered. One of us is still in that way. i did have on occasion the term the game all because i remember we had like a sunday night game right so i'm watching. His one o'clock kicked off in the hotel in minnesota or seattle. I can't remember where we were. And you know hoxha call runs the wrong route. Joe buck is ripping allies face. All i am. Biddings infuriated honestly. I'm literally standing on a hotel room bad yelling spring in a sweat. I got a game here in three hours. I this is what i'm supposed to be doing. So yeah i mean. When is your brother bill. You gotta pull hard for him defend them and you gotta fight for like any brother would allow did the same thing to me so it was a real treat to have that ron together. You know share ideas and poll hartridge. On what i i. I mean everybody has different answer for this and usually the most common answer is. I missed the locker room mr guys. Will you miss the most about playing as it is that the locker room and the guys yeah playwrights. You know fifty three players flight together.

"Problem call one eight hundred gambler or in indiana one eight hundred nine with i will add to that stugatz because i want the audience to know this. This has been a lot of upheaval in the last six months for us and we will have people coming in and out on vacation over the next few weeks and we're going to build out studio and there's a bunch of things that we have planned around here but to support the people who support us. I've been telling you that since. Espn draft kings came in and before they were really ready came in and grabbed us up and supported us so that they could sponsor the pirate ship and everything that we're doing around here and we are asking you to support the people who support us because they did it very They did it in a way that kept this free for you because they did it so quickly and before anybody was ready to do something like that that was groundbreaking and the result is we would like for you to support them. If you're somebody who likes to gamble there are some fun things that draftkings can do and you can do with them. Support the people that support the show. No one has supported this show. The way draftkings is currently supporting this show. And it's easy. And i think a lot of people in our audience gamble. They play daily fantasy. We're asking you just to do it. Draftkings like if you're not doing it there move it to draftkings that's it that is what is the ask and i think that what happened earlier. In the show we glossed over it. Because we had jimmy johnson on and i thought he had two bits of news. It wasn't just that. I had not heard confirmed that urban meyer had turned down the university of texas by somebody who would know but the other thing that he said. And this is the risk of doing old guy radio podcast but we did this yesterday with edrich. James and bobby bowden and jimmy johnson. The end of a football era in south florida to see one of them die and to see at the very end. Here jimmy johnson. Who did miami football in the pros and made the college team. Appro program wittingham. You're a young dolphin fan. is it too old. I think it might be too old for chris. Cody i think roy would be shocked by this. I think jimmy. Johnson told us that he had a chance to trade up for peyton manning to replace marino. Eventually that it would have been to He explained this to me off air because he wanted to make the clarification that it would have been for peyton manning to initially study under dan marino. But i had not heard before anywhere. But i just think it's such old news involving such old people usually people like those transactions but i think jimmy johnson pretty much said that he was thinking about trading up. He that he regrets not trading up for peyton manning that he felt like he could have gotten he should regret that That is news. That's big news. I think even the someone like chris wittingham. It's peyton manning could been. The dolphins quarterback could replace dan marino. You don't think wittingham is interested in that. I mean it would have been the complete opposite of what my life became is. I've never had a good quarterback ever as a football fan. I'm going to be twenty nine years old in two weeks. I've never had a good quarterback but and it would have been the exact opposite of the herschel walker trade that made him in dallas because what he said was i would have need to give up my entire draft. But he regrets funny. He regrets not doing it. He knew it would cost. And he's like. I could get but he he also couldn't do a night didn't ask this follow up. I don't think people remember poisonous. Jimmy johnson was treated for not respecting marino. Enough taking away his ability to audible. You saw what happened. At the very end of their run linked together dan marino was was throwing you know. Pick six is more than anyone in the league couldn't shake. He's anyone down. He just have these ninety yard pick sixes and he was done. And that's that's where it ended for dolphins football. That's as close as they got to be in. Good all the time sense where they haven't had a quarterback since then and if people remember there was great tension between jimmy johnson and dan marino and i felt like jimmy johnson lost that the the emotion of the audience made them choose dan marino even though it sunk with the both of them at the end and not even. Jimmy johnson was brave. Enough to trade for peyton manning. Even the peyton. Manning was an obvious franchise with a sports radio debate. Had he done it taking peyton manning before marino's done i mean it seems like a story we're dealing with right allah. I can't believe this much. Closer at the very end of marino montana. I don't.

"At least for vacation back god just back i i listen when you say coffin of my own design. This is what's funny and the self interest around here is funny greg cody. This just happened during the break. Greg cody is roaring with maniacal laughter. Because he's winning his holdout publicly he will speak publicly and i'm sure. Rip me somewhere. Where we'll be heard on the greg cody. Show featuring greg cody but while greg cody is laughing and doing that and getting the promotion with the holdout he wanted. I see stu gods in the other room texting and asking greg cody. This is the this is the profound laziness that sweeps across this landscape. He's saying. Say your exclusive words on stupidity. So i couldn't get the clicks desperate party. You really hate to see it. I love that the premise of this segment. Right here that you're listening to tell you how good other things are. Another thing that. I wanted to tell you that it's very good that we talked about and i thought we bypassed yesterday a little too quickly. I wanted to talk to jermaine o'neal for a really long time because it might seem like nostalgic misty when you're watching on net flicks what he's doing but having lived through it a generation removed from what that felt like at the time what happened to those dudes was unfair and that is not how it was chronicled by the media or by anybody. They got shit thrown at them. The police weren't anywhere to be found and they started punching customers because they were afraid. And germaine o'neil gave us so many details that i did not know that runner tests. I thought the most. I don't know what you thought was the most fascinating part of the interview to me. The most fascinating part of the because of course jermaine o'neal having lived this once the ten years of stain off him so he's gonna tell the story and my guess is tells the story that favors him but he is saying this is the story. This is not what was covered. This is the story and ron. Our test was trying to do in the middle of that. He was trying to teach himself the tools with the help of therapist. Counting to five to get back to present and not allow your emotions to take you away. A guy who was dealing with the therapist a that was following him around from arena to arena. Because basically he was not mentally healthy enough. He was to play basketball but to live life. Required a therapist care and jermaine o'neal not understanding it from that prison wanted to fight him for being immature for being reckless. But think about what's happening at the center of that. You've got somebody mentally ill before we're equipped to deal with. He's valuable as a basketball player. Let's tame him. Let's have someone handcuff to him to allow him to live so that we could keep getting him on the basketball court and not have even jermaine o'neal understand like watching the therapist get on team flights and everywhere else and jermaine o'neal said he didn't have any access to mental illness or the thought of it so we just keep getting it ron runner test mad at him not for whatever chemical issues are in in his head or whatever things have scarred him and his upbringing. Whatever it is that has arrived at mentally ill but they were dealing with brain chemistry stuff without knowing how to deal with it. I didn't hear anything more interesting yesterday than him saying. He has a better understanding of runner tests. Now he's trying to show all of us how we need a better understanding for what we did while showing you. Hey me myself. I needed to do a better job. Because i was wanted to fight this dude for being unprofessional. It's really sad. That when you consider what ron our test was going through. And they were so much unknown that they were carrying him around because he had talent on the floor. Like i understand that. I understand that people did understand what was happening with. Ron howard says but hearing jermaine o'neal talk about that just made me feel sad for ron. Her test you know it did and then the other thing about them protecting themselves dan. I mean what you really think about it. You're an arena full of strangers. And mayhem is going on specially good mood and you kind of understand. Like hey wow. I've got to protect myself here at all cost if it means. I punched customer. I budget customer. But we're doing old guy radio. I'm not sure whether people wanted to even hear from germaine o'neal whether it's all getting too old for them they want something. They don't want dr j. in jimmy johnson players from the past. You're not gonna believe. We're about to pull off that netflix documentary today correct. Will you guys go to it. You're saying my too many options. I've got pick that cocaine cowboys kings of miami. I'm not sure that i can do it. I've got two ma. I'm spread too thin on all the streaming services that are bombarding me with great content. You know we're going through stuff. Yesterday was suicide squad day today. I'm in the market for something new. And i got to get to this quick.

"This. To got spot cass. Yesterday i believe that our show did the single oldest version of a show. It has ever done today. We kicked off the show with jimmy johnson telling old war stories and tomorrow dr j. We are officially that show. We're officially that podcast. We're gonna reminisce with the old timers whether you want it or not. We're going to reminisce with the old timers even though dr j. has been notoriously tough interview his entire life but classy always classy and cool and smooth before you knew how to be those things dude will always be cool. I saw him out having dinner one time. And you can just tell when somebody has it going on. It's just a confidence that jumps off of him that he's he's had it going on for five decades. He's like billy dee williams of sports just central smooth skin made of silk. He made some pepper cool. It looks good on him. Kinda like clooney. It does look good on him. Do you think there's people in our audience. We're going to be confused wondering who dr j. is. We have not arrived there yet have we. Yes we have. Yes even with dr j. I believe that is now officially. Old guy. Radio slash podcast. If your guest doesn't know how to find where it is. He's being a man. I think that's the cutoff age. If the guests that you're talking to do you. Think dr j. d. Maybe can do you think he knows how to find us We've kind of cut out that demo. We are different image of dr j. Where he's just so cool. And so i want to answer. Yes yes. I think dr j. would would know how to find out okay. So maybe it's after him. Then i think dr jason is early seventies now. Yeah i'm not sure he knows. But you might be burying the lead here. Did you say there's going to be a show tomorrow wednesday. I did bury the lead. We are going to try to ramp this up a little bit more. We will see whether we can get this heaving jalopy up in the air more days a week because this has been a lot of on all of us but there will be a show tomorrow wednesday for no reason at all other than we're trying to give you as much content as you want and we're trying to get to five days a week you just don't understand how fully you star show that i have to say that because you know dr king's we wanna make them proud. We want to work for. But we also don't want to break the glass on five days right away here dan. We've got built up so burn. Maybe you ever see a dj dead mouse. Slow-burn they're clamoring though for us to go to to go back to what they were used to every day in next door nations mad high with five days. Personally i'm not ready for a support. They want a five day. Where as soon as mike goes to four. I'm at five. All of it is to say i'm at two. We've noticed vacation. You're go right back on vacation and thursday vacation again for stugatz. Do we have the day's lockdown on stugatz when this is like a little weird to day cameo on his vacation. He's approached it as if he's still on vacation. It's just kind of weird like hey don't get too mad at me. I can't take five consecutive weeks off. So he just popped into days makes his presence known and boom darts back out of here. It's a hetty play because it leads to a full week off. So i you know. I combined it little thursday friday into the weekend. It wraps around to the next week that well. That's gonna come to an end soon now. That our ceo is hanging around. Like you've seen you've seen there is more work to be done around here. The contract that i signed says many vacation days. I want i mean why signed it. That's true actually. Do have unlimited pto. Dan you did offer this tall us. Yeah you're in a casket of your own design. However because god's off next week and a hard sell look football's about to ramp up and when it does you get the full cash and you get more show than you know what to do with. That's a threat next week. It's the most enjoyable time of year if you're a fan of the show next week the sui awards. And that's a mike ryan exclusively. Yes yes that you just gave them a big burst of show. There's more show coming your way this week.

"Hey you know what would you do if you were playing defense against a and you. Kinda think he'd say head coach. I'm not going to answer that instead. He's like oh no you gotta mix it up every single play. You can't play the same defense to place in a row he alive. I'm like coach. what are you doing. He's like well true. It's true. I mean you know like like you know mixing up every single play and so defense is like started listening and so on. I how they play this defense singing down in totally different third-down they bring in some guys for third third-down only klay entirely defense. And so i guess he was this challenging players but as the word got out that we did a lot of no huddle that we call it. A lot of place. At the loudest scrimmage defenses started doing more disguising before the snap waiting to the last few seconds. So i don't think you can over prepare. i think you can say hey. I've seen enough film the hayes in the barn. It's time to go out and play and react like you said what the defense is doing knowing that. They're studying the film as well. They're going to have some different wrinkles. But i guess my biggest fear was in all the years i was playing at one. Time in my my third. Nfl season we played a team and we hit them with a blitz in the fourth quarter and the quarterback of the other teams came out and said yeah that was a new blitz That the coach just put in and he was wrong. We'd run that we'd run into preseason earlier that year and he had not gone back at four to watch that film and i just remember saying that is not gonna happen to me. They are not gonna hit me with a blitz that they have shown before during the season. Because i'm gonna have watched that now. They have something totally new. they come up with. That's fair game but then that's kind of that feeling. Preparation came from So talking about your legacy. I don't know if you you probably do realize this. But one part of your legacy is that you give hope every team the draft a quarterback that throws a bunch of interceptions their rookie year. Not everyone is peyton manning but your rookie year you through twenty eight interceptions. I don't know if you realize this but every that comes up constantly where it's like well look peyton manning's rookie year. Even though you were everyone kind of figured you were going to figure it out but Was that rookie year. Like was it just was it was the step up just that much more difficult and do you realize that you have given every fan base. Hope whenever you know high draft pick stakes right away. And they're like well maybe he'll be paid manning a Our live get off my resume. I appreciate you guys not mentioning that in that. Nice intro that you have those other accolades. But if trevor lawrence wants to break that this year am for it And the truth is there's a number of quarterbacks that would have broken it including my brother. Eli a sixteen game starter to do it right. And so we live like they made them wait ten games. They finally put a man. He got off to a hot start. We only had six games. You can't though twenty eight and six games and now these quarterbacks if they struggle early what do they do they take them out to get him out of the game. I go no no no leave him in there. Let learn okay. That's the only way to break this record and so Yeah you know I was asking. We have a football camp in louisiana. For high school quarterbacks and receivers we have college players come in and serve as counselors so align. Qna college players and they were kind of saying what was one thing you could do over again as a rookie. What would it be. And i think my answer was to don't don't under respect the nfl. But don't respect it as well. I i think. I gave it too much respect as the house fast. Everybody was how big they are going to be. That is played so fast. I spend my game. A feat removing thousand miles an hour. I was making these quick decisions without actually reading the coverage. And i think there's a five live between look they're going to be bigger. They're going to be faster but they're still doing a lot of the same things that you did in college and find that happy medium. It is told me a long time to find it. Steve young told me during our game against the forty niners that season he said painting. The games got a slowdown eventually. Trust me it's going to slow down. And he was exactly right. It just took a little while it took twenty eight interceptions. But because i did stay in every game i learned a lot about. Nfl that season and we went from three and thirteen thirteen and three the next year. I don't think that would have happened. Had i not struggle to not played all sixteen games. So i'm a believer in putting those guys in right away put wilson and put lawrence and let him play. Let them see how fast these defenses are. They're going to figure it out a lot sooner. It's interesting you brought up your brother. You like when we had him on this show. i think we asked him about You know calling out omaha scrimmage. I think he took credit for. He said that he taught you about omaha. Yeah he's yeah. I didn't know if that was true or not. I wanted to give you an opportunity to respond as true is funny. Omaha is kind of been out there for a while. Brady used to say in. New england alaska with the giants. It's kind of a term that has been out there you know. Nobody's really claims who started in it. Was it in the parcels air on it somehow. Got to you know a new england with brady. And then you know got to the giant whatever. Whatever it was. It was out there. And i got to denver and we started saying that there. That was right when they turn those. Nfl sideline microphones up louder. Or you the viewer. Home can hear everything that's being said and all of a sudden overhaul kinda got attributed to me because we were going no huddle. We were changing to play a lot. Omaha is something you say. Let's just a few seconds on the clock you need. The ball snapped now. It's omaha and we were doing that all the time and next thing you know. I'm getting the key to the city of omaha. Delivered to my house. Right ended up being a pretty pretty good word. Pick you know so. Allies right omaha was around for a long time. Before i got to the broncos and is is the word used just because it's a cool sounding word. That's what i've always thought. Yeah just kind of rhythmic three syllable word that usually meant. It was like an alert. Hey it's just two or three seconds on the clock needed. Snap now and you know. I think warren buffett thought it was named after him. It was not probably one of the few things not named after him And it was no real rhyme or reason but now i mean i walk through an airport. God is ios omaha. Just keep walking can get get called on my name anymore. I just get omaha. Great so we on this show. We like to mock traditional sports media and legacy talk and all these things you know that rings matter the most but your career is very interesting because there was a time where you lead sportscenter all the time as peyton win the big one. You end up winning two. You have a hall of fame career. Like i said at the start one of the best quarterbacks of all time but was there ever a moment at the beginning..

"peyton manning" Discussed on Channel 33

"I wanted to start with the big announcement from espn this week. After wooing and wooing and wooing peyton manning by the way wooing kind of a great only journalism word after wooing peyton manning to be a football announcer for years. Espn has finally landed deal. Not only with peyton manning but his brother eli manning they will be on the alternate monday night. Football telecasts starting this fall. They're going to do ten games a year for the next three years. So you're going to have the regular announcers calling monday night football on espn and then peyton. Eli at an announcer to be named later calling a separate feed on espn two and perhaps espn streaming service as well. Are you going to watch the peyton manning. Manning brothers alternate telecast. Well i have a feeling. I'll be watching for the show. I would watch out of out of you know some sort of fascination at the beginning but the but the notion that the manning brothers will be calling alternate version of the game does not would not necessarily steer my attention there on. Its own now. You not more than i guess. Peyton manning has been a guy that the networks have been trying to hire for a long time because he's famous and he's a good talker and he's in television commercials and stuff like that. I do think you bring us to a really interesting question. Brent anthony collect sent this in about okay. We're in this era of the mega cast. We have a call of the game and then we have another call of the game and then maybe we have another call the game and it used to be hard to do this but now wants thursday night. Footballs on amazon and monday night. Football is on. Espn plus you should be able to just change the channel and here the announcers you wanna do. So that's kind of interesting on one level but mike. My question is how many more people are going to watch a football game. Because the manning's are calling a second telecast. Well that's the thing right. It's like you're not paying them like how can you. How can you even argue that. You're paying them a salary that they wouldn't be more valuable to put them on the b game on sundays to like a for for Broadcast like some portion of the public is going to be forced to watch. This is going to go on regardless rather than putting them paying them a ton of money to be on an alternate thing. I don't i like idea of an alternate thing. I mean being able to hear the announcers you want but if peyton and eli manning or worth ten million dollars or whatever the number is do we know the number that you are already say the number if hypothetically if peyton eli manning or were ten million dollars to do an alternate monday night football broadcasts and like how much money are we worse. Could we get like half a mil. I mean we can we the ringer. Not just us. We bill simmons in the ringer. Doesn't alternate telecast of the monday night. Football i mean. Wouldn't that be worth like ten percent of what the manning brothers are making at least legs. If if if you can justify spending money to lure viewers away from your other telecast like does. It isn't anything possible. I don't know it just seems sort of a wild. Yes yeah i mean it's it's a great point i mean it's it's kind of wonderful for consumers for people who actually watch television which are mostly the people i am concerned about. So we get. You're giving me lots of different ways to experience as game. That's cool right. That's a good thing. Whether the manning telecast turns out to be good or not. But you're right i do. I do wonder as i get some level..

"Hotel when you're not in like a walking district of downtown area there and you're just like hey what can i do for food. It's nine pm and they're yeah. I don't know you know it's the whole point of going to a hotel even if it's rewarding it's like the is there. Do you ever go to a hotel. And not on the way in like madam at the room service wings or great here you know like i just can't they can. It's so nice to be able to wake up to like a carafe of coffee at a bacon egg and cheese sandwich sitting outside your door you know. And it's just. It's a little bit heartbreaking. This is davis message. Deductor anthony foul to reopen. The hotel restaurant got a very open. They just can't staff up. I don't know what it's it's it's it's you know there's a big problem here but still yes i miss it. I miss it. That's all member win before yelp when you'd go to the front desk of the hotel and say hey. Is there place to eat around here and they would have to do the obligatory well. I'd recommend our restaurant. I wish they could recommend the restaurant. Yes i do. Remember that they would tell you like the actual good place down the street. You're the first person ever to defend hotel. Restaurants are you. Is there anything better than just being. Okay there is things better but there are some crystallize. There's something incredibly nice about having like that one beer that you wouldn't have had if you were a car right away that less your edges till i feel that's a slightly different category but yes hotel bars immensely satisfying but i would rather have. I would rather have the sort of plus bureau say. Let's be minus like cheeseburger the at the hotel bar. And then just do it. One one shot. Then you know if you're if you're on a vacation with the intention of if you're in an eating city i'm not recommending that you go to the hotel bar like memphis you know and get your food there or new orleans or wherever you're going to just like experience food culture but if you're just there if you're if you're at the hotel for the nice hotel you know they should be able to serve up the kids a hot fudge sundae. That's all. i'm saying next week. David is gonna complain about the equality of the pretzels on southwest airlines. Not one. there's no peanuts anymore. I ask the first question to teddy so here though is drew talking about the mindset of the competition and getting the chance to work with peyton manning this offseason think being in a quarterback competition and then sort of say if you were to say last year not being in one your mindset does change. Will Aaron Rodgers finish his career in Green Bay?

"Good morning. Thanks for joining us. Get right to it when it comes to aaron rodgers and that whole story. So is it likely that aaron rodgers finishes his career in green bay. Or how likely is it. I would say more likely than not. He won't again. You just look at it and look how these quarterback situations have played out. Did peyton manning finish indianapolis. No tom brady finish in new england. No did the green bay packers draft a quarterback in the first round last year. Not only do they draft quarterback in the first round last year but they traded up to draft a quarterback in the first round last year and orlando roger didn't response. That was go out and win the mvp this year but again there are issues between the two sides and you heard him address it after they lost to tampa in the playoffs. And you heard address it with kenny. Mayne on sportscenter over the weekend. He certainly didn't sound like a guy who was committed to finishing his career. Green bay and. I don't think that it is all decision. That also is the decision of the organization that i emphasize traded up to go get a quarterback in the first round last year. No i don't think finish

Mahomes the rare quarterback with no weakness

"For the back on stage. Again for mahomes. It's quite a feat to be this good at this age. One imams teammate. Slave bell has only been with the chiefs a couple months clearly though. He's seen enough to determine that. Patrick mahomes could very well the the greatest player ever take a listen a great thing. More petty is. I never played these his first year. What are you gonna like popular. I think i was sitting out now. So i never played against bad but always of always washed on. I'm always thought he was like a great player. Then i came here. And then when i came here. That's when i really hit me like off like he might be the greatest player ever because the way practice. You know High goes about his business. People see the throws and things that have that he does in the game if things kind of like. I don't know there's like an accident but it's not he practices. It's so much like i wish. Obviously early practice unbelievable but my idea of thought. He's a ten before i came here now. These probably go twelve former offer running back. Brian west for joining us now brian. Good morning to you. Let me start with this. Eating people are rushing to crown. Patrick mahomes the next goat morning and you know this is going to be unpopular comment because i know we have the number one. She's saying in the world in nick right here but we are absolutely rushing to crown patch homes way too early but i understand why i understand. Why because he's had a great start to his career one of the best ever. We see the arm talent. We see all the special throws. But i want to remind you guys. Three guys bridge star drew brees and aaron rodgers. Three guys that have a combined three super bowls. Each one of those guys went to one and one thing that we want to talk about. Is that after. Each one of those guys won the super bowl. Everyone was saying they're going to be the next goat. They are the greatest of all time. They're going to go on a run. They're going to win. Multiple super bowls over and over and over. Brett farve actually made it to super bowl the next year in lost and that one so i think we have to be patient as far as how far we push these guys to saying that. They're the dote pack them host. Who has a long way to go and just to show that. I'm going to give you my top number one. Obviously tom brady ten super bowls being able to make the super bowl playing in his forties. That's amazing number. Two joe montana. Four for four in the super bowls they also achieved the rare feat of winning three in a row nineteen ninety there in the nfc championship game. He gets out by leonard. Marshall they won the super bowl that they would have won that game and then number for three. We talk about peyton manning. Mvp trophies and so we know how special peyton manning wasn't what he meant to our game. So i think we have to understand how much further patch mahomes has to go. But we have mentioned this as well if hashem aho's wins two more meaning this one and another one and then he goes on to shatter all of the passing and td record at that point. He enters the room with the conversation of the greatest of all time. At that point he inches that room. And then we say okay. Maybe it's not just about the super bowls. Maybe now we can look at the armed town. We can look at the mobility all the other things around. Just than just winning super bowls at that point when i look at it.

"Straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk while is the guy that said that is the GM. Of the New York Jets. And he is Joe Gaze a man that Adam gays brought in so they could work in tandem and boy that's working. I'll speak to act right now. At the year and a half together when Joe Douglas, the Jets general manager, was under Michael Case show on 90.7 FM, ESPN in New York. He says. All this going on is not all the fault of the head Coach. Not all on on coach again. Talk about some of the things that I haven't done well enough. And you know we started. We all share responsibility in this. You know, I think when teams attack our offense the same way, which I think they've been doing the same the same way almost all year. There's a deficiency that needs to be addressed. And so, um, you know, I work with continuing the good press covered or continuing to get Johnson fronts are stunts and blitzes. And so you know, I need to make sure we have guys and make explosive plays. That could be three point shooters for us and half short drives. And so no, I've got it. I've got a We'll bring those those players in. I said it before, like my hope is that we can We can fix this problem together and it's easy to pick on one person. It's easy to pick on the head coach. It's easy to pick on the quarterback. I think those air communion targets But it's all of us. It's all of us. The goal is to fix us all together. Freddy. I don't think people are picking on the quarterback. No, sir. I think they feel badly and the empathize with the quarterback. It comes Adam Gates. Yeah. Yeah. Miami to the playoffs for one year, but but those weren't his guys. He's coming off a reputation from being the OSI in Denver with Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning was essentially though the OSI of that Super Bowl team That's what Adam gazes living off off right now. I think Adam Gaze is one of those guys. That's a hell but colonel. What an awful general And right now, I mean, if you're Joe Douglas, and you're the Jets, GM Let's go back to what Steve Calm told us last week, right? Arizona Cardinals. GM How hard a decision was that for him? Two. After one season. The guy he hired to be the head coach. And coach Wilkes, He says. You know what? I'm sorry. We have to go offense, your defense of guy. I love you, but we've got to make a move. Way have to go with the way the league is going. I've got to turn loose of a guy I also picked as a top 10 quarterback. And Josh Rosen. I gotta turn him list. Lose too, right? And we're going with Cliff Kingsbury, a guy who had a losing record at his alma Mammy right at Texas Tech and you and your drafting, as he said Ah, 59 quarterback. The number one overall pick. His tone of voice right when he's telling us that story last week, it was There. I'm looking at myself in the mirror going. Are you really going to do this? Yeah. He did. He went with his gut. So, Douglas man. It's time to go with your gut. Right? Look at the man the mirror. You really a stick with Adam Gates? Oh, by the way, Sam Darnold can play. I mean, it's the head coach and a third quarterback. That's the problem. It's the head coach. And the culture that Permeates down from the head coach. That's the biggest problem, man that that to me is the number one problem and that is why guys like Steve time. When you make decisions like that. Now, you're five into you sitting there going and he's not breathing a sigh of relief right now. Hey, was playoffs. He wants a Lombardi. But You're looking at yourself in the mirror going So far so far. Okay? Joe Douglas. You look yourself in the mirror and go. Hey! You keep a mistake in the building or Is a damn time to cut bait and get rid of Adam gays and oh, Freddy. Part of me thinks they're keeping Adam gays to go. Oh, and 16. Well, I told you that before a couple of weeks ago, he's in Fitz Simmons on Freddie Coleman of Freddy and Fitz Simmons on ESPN Radio in town. 80. I want all of you out there about three weeks ago that the Jets would try to use the clean slate method. To keep Adam Gaze is their head coach. Well, we gotta move guys away from him that weren't his guys. He needs to have his guys to give him a fair shake. I want each and every last one of you three weeks ago that they could spend this even if they go on 16. They keep Adam gaze. That's the kind of method that they would use. Joe Douglas also knows this. He was brought in by Adam Jace, not the other way around the Jets. Hi, Adam Gaze first. And then Who do you want? Is your general manager Adam Gates that I want that guy Joe Douglas in effect. He works for Adam Gays and the Jets are determined to keep this mistake in the building. But if you go on 16, how can you Here's why? When they made that decision To keep Adam Jace over my mechanic and have Adam Gaze pick his own general manager. They gave that love empower toe Adam Gates. There's no other explanation. Why the New York Jets are determined to keep Adam gaze no matter what the final record is going to be, and believe me, they're going on 16 when it's all said and done. That's part of the reason. Me, Freddy. It really is. Why else would what? Why else would you keep him right now? Well, you know what This is What happens when you make safe and and afraid decisions and the Jets are making a safe, but they're afraid. Well, what if we move on from Adam Gates? He goes somewhere else, and he succeeds. Or we decided to bring him in because that was a safe choice. A safe choice. Where are they now? Making those China choices, Steve Time said. I'm not keeping this mistaking the building and I'll take my chance. Hard decision. The Jets alight here. Well, if we go on 16 Adam Gates is part of the solution. Really. It is my canteen. I'll produce it And what the hell's the problem? If he's probably solution, then where's the problem? The answer the Jets. It's always the answer. When it comes to that, at least with this conversation being over. We're gonna be really glad when it comes to Wednesday, and college football will explain that next on ESPN radio action. Wednesday. The NFL's trade deadline has come.

"With Peyton manning I came in there when Andrew luck with the guy you could still feel Peyton manning's finger trips figure fingerprints on that organization just the way that things were wrong if a quarterback wanted to go out and throw some footballs with some wide receivers you would get out there and meet the wide receivers out on the field they were athletic trainers out there they work with the guys out there there might even be a film guy out there this this organization is dialed in and they have an expectation level at the quarterback position to plan an all pro level and they didn't necessarily get what they were looking for wasn't only the fall Jacoby percent last year but they didn't get that standard they're used to spending money and maybe over doing it at the quarterback position twenty five million dollars on a one year deal they cannot afford to not have it right this year and so that's what they've done there's familiar Iritty like Adam Schefter just sat with Frank Reich it's Frank Reich said you know what who can I count on who can I count on to deliver the ball every single time when you guys open and who can I count on to bring that level that Peyton manning and drew lock tight level of leadership to our locker room and Philip rivers is the guy that he seems he's seen him do it before when they were together in San Diego he knows that he can do that in the days well hello Brevard replacing Jacoby Brissette who got a two year contract last September led the colts to a five and to start with a knee injury and accuracy problems and he struggled down the stretch there will also be a quarterback change in Carolina Chris Mortensen reported they're close to a deal with teddy Bridgewater and that comes on the heels of the Panthers announcing Tuesday they've given Kim don't permission to seek a trade cam Newton clapped back on Twitter blaming the franchise for twisting the narrative he says he never asked for a trade ESPN insider Louis Riddick at this time of year is paramount it's important to be clear and persistent real concise and precise internal and not really doing that when you issue a statement saying look we have granted him permission to seek a trade all that implies that he was asking for he said look I don't ask for anything you guys are the ones were set this in motion and I and I understand why they're setting into motion you see new regimes do this all the time when they come in they're being hired as the people were supposed to clean up the mess of the previous regime that's why teddy Bridgewater is on his way in his relationship with Jo Brady the former LSU coach is now the office of coordinator on the mat rule and they want to go in their own way it says that they're not handling the communication very well with the guy who really Caroline on the map this points came on the market and I mean like what we're looking at this quarterback market one way which is who's available now but then different people being sort of signed creates a secondary market of subtly cams available I mean I'm I'm trying to picture and we don't know because of the injuries or where he is right now but I have to believe that there will be a robust market for his services Lewis yes assuming that he's healthy and provided that he's healthy will make you sit back and go Hey let's let's look at this again here there's one there's one D. models if it mean that comes to mind right away that needs to push the guy who's their income but and that's the Chicago Bears right now Matt Nagy doesn't have any history with cam Newton but he's a guy who automatically will make you go okay so we took him into the mix as well now along with Nick Foles and guys like Andy Dalton coming here on purpose Mr mystique to me that's something you have to explore and here's the other wild card okay everyone knows how I feel about Dwayne Haskins in Washington everyone knows that I think I was given a raw deal is rookie year he was set up to fail there was no way he was going to succeed and that really this year and twenty twenty is his rookie year well we see how relationships play a big role succeeded because far as a quarterback musical chairs is played didn't Ron Rivera told Kim Newton death and has there been some speculation about the brown the fact that it may be wrong on the same thing up there that didn't want me to explain Haskins is my guy so maybe he wants to sort of work somebody knew something that's a place you have to watch and that's what makes this all so intriguing and in the meantime Panthers finalizing details for a contract with teddy Bridgewater would run for three seasons average around twenty million per year according to sources much more on the latest moves coming up Angola can we go six to ten eastern time general lofty among the guests will join Golic and Wingo at seven thirty eastern the headline that had New York city's mayor upset with the nets what's next for general IT has been radio.
