"Beatings everyone and welcome to Asian American Ken found podcast, where my mission is to spotlight Asian American culture makers and shapers by inviting them to share their stories and journeys with us. As of 2022, we've proudly partnered with UCLA's Asian American study center, which will eventually archive all of our episodes in perpetuity. And as always, I'm your host Ken fong. Welcome to episode 369. This latest iteration of the two kens is an occasional collaborative episode with fellow podcaster Ken Kemp. My longtime friend and the person who prepared my income taxes for years when I was a young pastor. In case you're wondering, we don't record and release these on a strict schedule. I'd say that they come out every 5 to 7 weeks because we both have our hands full with our respective shows. But if something involving politics and or religion suddenly appears on a radar screens, we discuss whether it's time to record us, talking about this. I know that one of the big reasons why can enjoy these sessions is because he gets to explore pressing issue without feeling the burden of hosting a guest. He created the beach white male podcast specifically to talk about the intersection today of politics and conservative Christianity. So our joint episodes, mesh well, with his shows overall emphasis. On the other hand, my show has always been more guest focused. If they're an Asian American culture maker or shaper, we'll get into whatever they're all about. Politics and religion might come up in our conversations, but that doesn't happen very often. Given the fact that I personally have plenty of thoughts and opinions about the intersection of those forces today, it's a real treat for me to think through whatever candidate I decide to focus on that day. Hopefully, if you regularly tune into my show, you're also enjoying these cooperative episodes. At the very least, you're getting opportunities to hear how pertinent issues sound as Ken Kemp and I discussed them. And your specially getting to know me better. In this episode, we focus on something called the great replacement theory. Up until recently, this racist way of thinking was broadly understood to be the purview of only those occupying the farthest and most remote corners of our American society. But today, however, this warped way of thinking is fueling racist animus on the dark web, and amidst an alarming number of groups suffering from white fragility. Today, far right politicians and TV hosts are unashamedly promoting replacement thinking, without suffering any dire consequences. And while two thirds of Americans see this country's increasing diversification as a good thing, that means that one third do not. By now, most of us are aware that Peyton gendron purposely drove to buffalo, New York to record himself murdering innocent black folks while they were buying groceries for the week. In writing his 180 page manifesto, he cites the great replacement theory multiple times, trying in vain to justify his hatred of blacks, Jews, and bipoc immigrants. We briefly mentioned the shooting that occurred the very next day at a Taiwanese American church in Orange County. And while this too was clearly a hate crime, because the accused murderer is Chinese, it's so far being described as a hate crime rooted in politics, not race. While that shooting therefore shouldn't be included in any discussion of the great replacement theory, it definitely should be included in the bigger discussion about gun control. Okay, it's time for the two kens to talk about all this..

Tucker Carlson: The Truth About Payton Gendron's Letter

"I want you to hear Tucker, because it must be a weird place to sort of be in the crosshairs like this. Of the viciousness of the left and the attacks, can you imagine what it must be, what it must feel like to be blamed for a mass shooting like this, here's what Tucker said. Gendron left in a 180 page letter that he said would explain his motives. You've probably heard this document described as a racist manifesto. But that's not quite right. It's definitely racist, bitterly so. Gendron reduces people to their skin color. That's the essence of racism and it's immoral. But what he wrote does not add up to a manifesto. It is not a blueprint for a new extremist political movement, much less the potential inspiration for a racist revolution. Anyone who claims that it is, is lying, or hasn't read it. Instead, gendron's letter is a rambling pastiche of slogans and Internet memes, some of which flatly contradict one another. The document is not recognizably left wing or right wing. It's not really political at all. The document is crazy. It's the product of a diseased and organized mind. At one point, gender suggests that Fox News is part of some global conspiracy against him. He writes like the mental patient he is, disjointed, irrational, paranoid. Now that's true, not that it makes the atrocities he committed easier to bear. If your daughter was murdered on Saturday in Buffalo, you wouldn't care why the killer did it or who he voted for. But the truth about Peyton gendron does tell you a lot about the ruthlessness and dishonesty of our political leadership. Within minutes of Saturday's shooting before all of the bodies of those ten murdered Americans had even been identified by their loved ones. Professional Democrats had begun a coordinated campaign to blame those murders on their political

Weekend Mass Shootings Dominate News Coverage

"Killer in laguna Woods, you may not know about. Yesterday afternoon, a 60 year old Asian man, that's the only description I have from the Los Angeles Times, stood up in a luncheon honoring a former pastor at a Taiwanese Christian church in laguna Woods, which is not far from my old home in Orange County. They were welcoming back for a luncheon, Jerry Chen, excuse me, I want to get that Jerry Chandler's the fellow gave the quote the former pastor's name is here somewhere I can't find it, but Tom Kramer, who is the head of the presbytery of Los ranchos. Again, I used to be a member of this Presbyterian. Kramer did not know if the pastor was harmed in the shooting, a pastor clobbered the gunman as he tried to reload with a chair and a bunch of the so called older victims. They were all in their 60s. Those not shot tackle them in hog tied in, but it's a 60 year old Asian man is the killer there. In Harris county, Texas, the more traditional weekend shooting, two young men shooting at each other, wounding three and killing two at a Harris county flea market. At 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. So guns are everywhere, The Wall Street Journal, however, wrote about the particular evil of the buffalo shooting. There is a culture of white supremacy in the United States and people need to understand not large, but it definitely evil and it's dangerous because it attracts the unbalance like this 18 year old this was pure evil said Erie county sheriff Garcia in an app summary of the mass murder at a cyber market in Buffalo writes The Wall Street Journal. That appears to be racially motivated. The alleged shooter 18 year old Peyton gendron, the last time you'll hear his name on my show, is another young man possessed by inexplicable hatred.

"In over a 120 countries This is Bloomberg radio Now a global news update authorities in Buffalo say they're moving quickly to prosecute in 18 year old man accused of murdering ten people in a grocery store Erie county district attorney John Flynn told reporters Saturday The wheels of justice are moving swiftly A felony hearing will not take place in 5 days And then the investigation continues So we have taken the appropriate steps right now to get him behind the virus 18 year old Peyton gendron is being charged with first degree murder for allegedly shooting 13 people Saturday afternoon at a buffalo grocery store ten of the victims died gendron is pleading not guilty Authorities believe the crime was racially motivated Minority leader Mitch McConnell leading a delegation of Republican senators on a visit to war torn Ukraine President zelensky announced the visit on telegram Saturday morning Video shows McConnell accompanied by senator Susan Collins and John cornyn being greeted by zelensky in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv I'm Brad Seeger You're listening to Bloomberg businessweek with Carol masher and Bloomberg quick takes Tim Steven from Bloomberg radio All right with all the market volatility again this week I mean it's really been the theme of 2022 market volatility So we recently caught up with a perfect guest to talk about it He has seen a lot of market cycles Fair to call him legendary Allen Patrick Hoff an early VC he helped build and grow such companies as America online Office Depot A little company called Apple audible as well He's the chairman emeritus and cofounder of gray Croft He's also got a new book out Carol It's called no red lights reflections on life 50 years in venture capital and never driving alone You know everybody I meet is lived for such a short time relatively in this market that they only see everything going up and I've lived through so many cycles that to me this was inevitable it's going to come Everybody was living in a euphoric state that things were only going to go up And I think you better be prepared for some kind of hiccup and I don't know why it's going to happen but that's just the way the markets work How big of a hiccup and how long are the hiccup Well I think it depends on what the after fall is after this initial setback Will the market stabilize or is it going to you know after a certain period of time go down again I mean the levels that the markets have just been increasing steadily until the beginning of this year I mean last year was dramatic The whole Trump era was dramatic I always follow the theory that markets don't like surprises And all we had was surprises for four years and the market kept going on So I think we've got an after effect of that And I just say one thing this is not the time to sell I think you got to ride the rocky periods and watch how to see how it stabilizes Even a name like you know you've got meta meta platforms right Facebook down about 38% this year We were talking about Netflix before we got going It's down almost 46% since April 19th when it just freaked out the markets right When it came down with a lack of subscriber growth So I don't know how do we make sense of some of that Is that opportunity to you Or is it like there's something wrong Well if I were following public markets I'd be looking very carefully for where the opportunities are in terms of companies that have relatively good values and relation to their revenues and their profits and which ones have the balance sheets that are going to sustain themselves No matter what happens to interest rates But in terms of meta and Google and Apple I think we're going through a period where for finally the Congress are now focused on the monopoly positions that these companies have And there's legislation pending And I think that it's long been longer company You really are coming You realize that the Internet has not had any regulation there's been no regulation in 25 years we're living with outdated monopoly laws And I think that Europe has just passed some very significant laws And the U.S. is going to follow I think very shortly And that is an overhang Very curious about your thoughts on this Does the monopoly power that you argue that some of these big tech companies have to what extent does that stifle innovation when it comes to startups Of course it does I mean you know I can't tell you the number of companies I've been on the board of where I'm going to aboard me and they'd say traffic was down 50% or whatever the percentage is why Google changed their algorithms I mean that's monopoly if I've ever heard it I mean we our original monopoly laws were related to control of the railroads that control of oil now we're seeing a different kind of monopoly control And that is you know when you have 90% of your search going through one vehicle and when people are putting their own internal products and offerings ahead of other products that are available that's monopoly Consumers get hurt Yeah Oh ultimately of course Well let's put this way The advertisers are getting hurt The competitive businesses are getting hurt And I.
