Ah, from David math on our website. Did you know that New General David Math? Yes. The most natural transitions. Newjersey interstates are jammed and falling apart, Report says. I wonder what else was in this report that was of common knowledge as well jammed the interstates Yes Theater, A new report finds New Jersey has some of the most crowded highways in the nation and the condition of our world. Hundreds jizz. Is a lot worse than most other states. That makes sense. Yeah, considering they were probably, but I don't like the school in Pennsylvania was built a 50,000 cars and we're hold, like half a 1,000,000. Yeah. I mean, you know these these roads we never meant for this? No. And then Well, you've seen every single knives we go home 1 95 is under constant. It's going to be a great state when they finish it. They have had what four months now of minimal people on the right's a little bit more so now but back. Think how quick could have been just bang. All that out? You think is that you know, you would think with all the money they got from the gas tax and get going up, going up going up that they were supposed to get the money from you and telling me this thing that we're going to talk about tonight. Have you? Are you having more or less sex since the quarantine yet, Right? What does that? What does it do with that? Well, you really pulled that one back pandemic is a big problem for young people's sexual health. Is this a big problem in same world? Not now. Not a big deal about whether he smiles at you. That's what's going on here and what? It was a big problem saying what you think I shut up. You could. That's how you could always tell the ones the ones who jumped at the defensive bid at the first part, that's you know, it's like, all right, well, a little go easy on that. What them have their moment. Sam, could I get a good look at yourself? So what I'm thinking like it was so basically, What was the story with this generous still on one a 15 dot com The Noble Corona virus pandemic is novel. He could call it that now you're correcting me or what I'm saying it's not the peace price. The novel Corona virus Pandemic has been affecting the sexual and reproductive health of adolescents and young adults not because the virus itself but because of social distancing and limited access to both birth control and abortion care. I mean, you remember the very beginning of this whole thing there is that story on the New York Post that was telling you what kind of sex you should and shouldn't have been talking about that. Exactly. So it's a rather for better for worse with its yet says on here, you know they're still seeing each other. There's you know, not as much. Chance to get unintended pregnancy or STDs from less sex. But you're still seeing your partners. You still might able to get the right health care right now. But that's what I was thinking. We were going over stuff earlier. I'm just starting to think I was thinking. Like, you know, with all the cooped up inside with its nets, and that's even a whole nother debated relationship versus singles. You haven't mohr or less sex because of the crown of could imagine, like pandemic sex. Where you have to wear a mask on them Xs or how about this is going to get to the 0.1 day where people we're going into peeps shows and you put 1/4 in and you'll see a women just slowly drop her mask. O My God, I see knows I see knows. Oh, my God, is that upper lip? It's the old scramble signals on TV. Where you thought you saw a boo. I see an ass I see. And I feel so left out. I we've talked about where I was like you'd watch things on basic cable thinking I might get a boob in this episode or something like that. But I've heard The first guy paying for the basic cable. Exactly. Well, that was a thing because what happen is they would have these boxes on and he would be able to, I think, come with tuners. So sometimes I get the channel came in fuzzy. You would kind of tune it. You know you would adjust. And it would. Yeah. So now when you go to like, what was then called the Spice Channel on the Playboy Channel and little squiggly alliance quickly ons, But every now and then it would freeze. We're about 10 seconds and you get to see boob on when that would happen. You'd be therewith to anyone. I gotta go. They gotta go. No, I get it. And that's what kept people buying. This prison used to do it down in Philadelphia. You know, it was a terrible idea this game Sixers games and the appreciation all boom,.

"So it was only Micky Dolenz Davy Jones and Peter Tork. But these guys they broke up in nineteen seventy one and for these guys get together and have like such a monumental tour and the really cool thing is in a month later in actually had this out, and they released then in now, the best of the Monkees, but that came out in June, but it was basically they did it because of this tour started out in people were starting to go to. The tour and get excited about it. And then they made a video for this that they played on MTV all the time that year for that was then this is now isn't even the song that had an MTV and because of that it led to seven of the nine Monkees albums to make appearances in the billboard top two hundred and by the end of eighty six rhino records sold more than two million copies of monkeys albums, and end that best of the album, I was talking about before it actually hit the top twenty in the billboards. And people say they monkey around did he do. This whole thing started to, and this is really cool. And this is a sign of the times in the eighties, because, like I said, the, the show was cancelled sixty eight the band broke up in seventy one, but then in February of nineteen six MTV ran a marathon that they called pleasant valley Sunday. There was all monkeys episodes. And that just number watching there have reignited the popularity in shit went crazy man power cable. That's fucking eighties, right there. That's, that's so true men, there was a monkey's renaissance in the eighties. I remember that's first time I saw this show. Matter. Yeah. I used to watch that the Nicot night or Nickelodeon, monkeys reruns all the time. Matter of fact that tour that you're talking about the twentieth anniversary tour. My sister's very first concert. She went to was that was that monkeys show that some shit that is Carlos Goodell. What you. All right. Carlos. What do you got for music nineteen ninety six last week of may may twenty eighth nineteen ninety six week? It's slayers undisputed attitude their seventh studio album and this album's a little bit different from the previous ones this one consists almost entirely of covers of punk rock and hardcore punk songs. And also to, to regional songs, but mainly covers, they're all from bands, like minor threat, doctor. No, the stooges for abuse. So a lot of their work that apparently made what slayer what they were a lot of influence. So they wanted to do covers those, those songs it was recorded at capitol studios in LA with producer, Dave Sardi, while reign in blood producer Rick Rubin who worked with boys. Retouched peppers MC? Everybody, basically served as executive producer. It was recording just a couple of weeks and it was largely brainchild of the guitarist, Kerry king, which is if anyone who knows king is guys literally insane. So this is the brainchild of him than his, and you got to check it out, but it peaked at number thirty four and the billboards of the attitude hundred which is pretty sweet for, you know, a cover of punk rock and hardcore punk songs in the mid nineties, and the reviews were pretty positive about. It. Paul Paul, Kat of all music comment that undisputed attitude while not perfect is a fitting tribute to the band's that inspired slayer to break from the traditional middle bolt that was may twenty eighth. Nineteen Ninety-six if there were a number thirty four on the billboards that might be their highest. So it might be. Yeah, that's crazy like metal like that. You're not really gonna see the at all so yeah, not a lot of radio play slayer. So that that's pretty stunning. All right. What's your second pick? All right. So on may twenty fifth nineteen Ninety-six lead singer of sublime, Bradley knoll dies of heroin over heroin, overdose. So this was a big one in the music world. He born he was born and raised in Long Beach. They had started the band down there, and this and in the area and sublime had or order released forty two freedom and Robin Hood. And those have been already people were getting a good fan base with that one. And then while right before they released the self title album. You know, he ties overdose..

"And they did it twice. And that's why I mean that is one of the reasons why the Monkees tour exploded, the eighty six union tour was explosive. I think but we can their biggest tour in America in the summer tour that year. Yeah. I read some reports that you guys were always getting along on that tour. There's some tension that didn't want to be on stage during the new songs and everything that there was there was some stuff going on there. But you know, the most important thing is that. The man was on stage. He was on stage for that that tour was fabulous success. And you know, you magic what that would have been like if it'd been Mickey and Peter would have been nearly as big don't think. Right. So David was also skill in his cutest mode, Davey stayed pretty cute to the end, really. But the robbery of the sixties maybe not quite as strong among the four of us. And then among the three of us later. There was always varied levels of respecting ration- and affection and friendship. Did you hear the special on George Harrison the other day and joy said you know, to the outside world, I was one of the Beatles in the Beatles were great big thing. And I was one of inside the Beatles. I was alone. Right. So in any group as we find out when we did there were varying degrees of affection, and comradeship and respect and the Monkees were different. You know, you can't say yes or no. And you one thing like. That did the same proportions of feelings carry over into the eighties choice. Yeah. Just about. I'm you Mickey's always been very easy to talk to Dedi has always always shown flashes of great, insight and intelligence and wit and heart. Michael is always been hard working and talented and funny, and I've been whatever anybody says I've been and it's always been that way. It's just that doesn't change much. You know, your personality is pretty much luck input early. Peter talking to Andy green and love his slight shade of flashes of brilliance. But any green rub Sheffield? You were going to talk about the experience of seeing Peter torque play in recent years, and that was like, and what turns out to be his final years. So the band reunited was I and twenty eleven before Davy died in before nez came back. I missed that to her rob slot at the beacon. Yeah. There was the forty fifth anniversary tour all three of them were on fire. It was Davies last tour. He was fantastic. You know, like Davey his do. He was doing the boo glue during she hangs out, and it was absolutely ridiculous, and Peter Tork something that he did, you know in the twenty eleven tour which didn't have Nesbitt or the twenty thirteen tour that didn't have Davy Jones..

"Which I think Peter Tork co wrote from headquarters. Way too. No. I thought we'd here. Going to play some audio of Peter talking about the Monkees reunion. But I explained what happened there. What led to the revival of the monkeys all sort of the twenty year rule of nostalgia that nineteen eighty six all their fans the age that they wanted to look back and a young MTV was desperate for programming. So they the show back on and the ratings skyrocketed, and they got offers to go back on the road, and they were playing arenas again. It was an astounding thing was that your first experience of the Monkees was when it got back on MTV, or did you some glinted earlier than grew up on monkeys reruns, which you know, like the Brady bunch a staple of seventies UHF stations Google that UHF sticks in every town. There were the monkeys and the Brady bunch were on in the afternoon after school in that slut. It was four pm on channel fifty six was the monkeys. So interesting because I grew up the nothing to music, but I grew up just after the US F era, and the was the chef dial on TV, but couldn't get. Anything on it? So if I have been able to get anything apparently would have been monkeys reruns. Yes. And the monkey runs and sometimes they do double headers against also like that afternoon. Ten fifty six much better than channel thirty eight. I will go to my grave arguing this with absolutely nobody. But my sister's remembers, but the Monkees the music was so good. And I was always something that the show shocking that that they were great comedians, which is what they're hired for. But they were also great singers and great performers and that the songs that they got research. Great. So remember hearing stuff like going down or star collector, and it's just mind blowing that I was exposed to this fantastic music and torque very much like the Ringo of the TV show. He was the kiddies first favourite, you know, he was your first favorite monkey and for my sisters. That was the first record. I ever bought the records were often sold in made for TV offers. So my sisters, and I we pulled in two dollars. Each.

"Peter Tork was one of our first images of what that kind of hippyish bohemian adult life might look like dress fan of his actual songwriting and of the monkeys music general you've found that monkeys music. Yeah. He didn't write or saying as much as the others, but his distinctive element in terms of you know, what he was telling you in that interview about his. Village folk roots that he was always the one who kept that as part of the element of the monkeys win of my favourite monkey songs shades of gray. Everybody takes turn singing and Peter comes and just sings forwards the chorus only shades of gray. It's funny because like it's beautiful moment. Because each monkey is taking a turn at the Mike seeing this really like portend, his heartfelt lyrics and Peter comes in with those four words, and it's very beautiful that he has the punchline of this very zen sort of song. It was always just a beautiful highlight of the monkeys music and a good picture of his role in it. I definitely wanted as part of this show to have the tube. You make a broader case for the monkeys. And maybe I'll have you do that before we dig into some of the details. They're not in the Rockne hall of fame. There are many people think that's an injustice present company included. So maybe can make the broader case for the Greenwich of the monkeys. I think the problem they constantly face is they were put together by TV producers for a TV show. And as people have said to me, but they. Could been four other guys. But that's just not true. It was cast brilliantly on each brought something to the table, and they wonderful vocalist, and they were given these amazing songs by likes of Carole king and Neil diamond in Boyce and Hart is one of the great catalogs of the sixties. I would argue I completely agree. I always loved your interview with Peter Tork where he says I quoted this piece with all due modesty since I had little to do with it which is him being too modest. Indeed. Because I think the monkeys are one of the great pop song books, and I completely agree. Their singing voices had so much to do with it. People talk about the monkeys as some kind of archetype of artificiality and sixties pop. There is so much of that. And that the monkeys music has lasted for people who've barely seen the TV show. You know, the TV show is just a blip in terms of TV history. But the music is forever and has proven to be very lasting tends to be for me. The ideas. Maybe it doesn't matter so much what happened in the kitchen. If the result is the result. Bands form all sorts of ways they were formed for TV show. But you know, so what in the end. And I think the more years past the less than and the miracle of the monkeys is they became a real band by the third album. It's a completely real band who's writing the songs singing the songs who's playing on the songs and the songs are great, right? There's a Nokia slash Frankenstein scenario, their absolute it's the craziest thing, but they made a truly fantastic album. I love headquarters in that's all them yet. That's an amazing album and really like their albums after that are is just a fantastic album. I always love something Mike Nesbitt said to you. I think just like a few years ago. He said people think it's weird that we actually became a band. But given that time you put any random for guys together. They would form a band. It's just what people did back then. Yeah. And it's a beautiful end like how it came together Sex Pistols were formed by a guy who ran a clothing store like he picked them for that..

"Through five one thousand nine hundred sixty four but here's the funny thing. Peter Tork died this week, right? And a lot of us have a very fun place in our hearts for the monkeys in for Peter Tork, really for all of them. And so now Peter torque has passed away after battling a rare form of cancer that they thought they had licked but did not he lived long after its initial diagnosis and has now passed away. He had a weird life. You know, he went bankrupt. He went to jail he was in an Oklahoma penitentiary for three months for hash and just. It wasn't all smooth sailing. He was so exhausted after they made their parody documentary head that he bought out his monkeys contract and gave them back four years pay cost him hundreds of thousands of dollars. He said, I can't do it. Maybe a good choice. Maybe not a good choice, but Peter Tork has passed away. Well, if nineteen sixty four the monkeys the Beatles have those five hits three years later. The Beatles were still a going concern as where the Rolling Stones. But in one thousand nine hundred sixty seven the monkeys outsold, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined. So for those of you who don't know the monkeys, and you don't have to because they they have not endured. They were not as great as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. They said FOX is waiting for us to be done with this court hearing because he has some scenes that he has to shoot for empire. That's the least of his problems. He's looking at three years in prison. We're not talking about the federal charges that will come. I assume for sending a letter to himself. He was upset that he was making sixty five thousand dollars in episode. Nick did the math.
