Taxpayers handover to our military to fund research projects to make better killing machines. Okay but they're just saying he could've taken that money given to poor people you telling me. If he didn't use that money to go to space he would have just given it to the pentagon. Or you're saying that his tax money would go towards that. Maybe that's what tax dollars. Maybe that's what you're saying. So for starters. The people bitching are actually funding less productive venture while screaming blasphemy. At the rich guy. And i did a lot of practical stuff. I mean there was some digital stuff with the blood but a lot of it was practically on the cat. I mean they didn't even have it wasn't a digital puppet and was not because the face and the cat was so hilarious. Because he's like anyway. I i don't know i just sometimes. I'm in the mood for that type of movie. But i understand your your viewpoint. Sometimes we wanna watch orphan. And i wanna get scared and then i don't wanna laugh I mean it's like like like it's okay. It's okay if it's if it's done well and there are movies that controls but it's a little bit bulled. Genres are difficult and the try to blend the bull. Yes is something else. So that's a talented talented filmmakers. That can that's a skill. it really is absolutely 'cause they're also really hard to do. Yeah because if you that's the thing if you take a really dark film like black christmas and you got to really be careful because you don't wanna lose your audience and they didn't that that that police station scene was fantastic. I mean it was awesome. It's let you probably never lighting rig lightened you because you'll be like what the fuck is this movie. Shit get through the first five minutes like turn this shit off. It really is because if you think about it such a dark film and it's so well done and it's so creepy and then you have this little part. It's just hilarious. It's really funny. And and the and the cop laughing at the desk and the guy is totally clueless. He has no idea. It's just it's kinda like it's almost. I feel like it's dry humor. Let me say that. That's the other thing. I really am a fan of dry humor. I guess it depends on. What type of were you like to like. I love like. I know you hate napoleon dynamite. I loved it It's all in your tastes are and what makes you laugh and really love dry deadpan. I loved pedro in that. And oh my god and deb. And all the i mean just and that debt is definitely an acquired taste so i am less about will ferrell goofy over the top films. You know ass diana. She'll tell you. I mean some of that either. So yeah i the gist. The more of the just a dry and you know. That's that's what tom. Hanks started his really quirky comedies. And and then he kind of went into more. You know john. Candy type comedies. Where it's very subtle subtle the way. But that i it's that's timing. That's great writing. That's yeah that's a different comedy. Screwball economy is easy to do. But it's difficult to pull off and that's what people don't realize they look at it at all. I could do that. Could fall down the stairs and chevy chase. Doing the. You know falling down stuff like that. I mean anybody can do it. But there's this you know. Peter sellars was the master of that type account. And that's hard to do. It's a it's very hard to do. And like people are going to hate me for saying this. But i'm just not an austin powers fan as just not i know but it's you have to like that type of comedy and it's and it's right. You know definitely not up your alley because you don't like that just it's just. I'm not a dumb. And dumber te. Not and i like those. And it's okay and everybody's different and i know a lot of people that hate napoleon. Dynamite and. I am totally fine with that when i first saw it. I'm like what the hell am. I watching it takes a few viewings with evil dead and other and some other films. And then i'm like oh my god. I love this film. So in fact we're going to see it later in september and we're going to meet some of the cast like uncle rico and some of the other cast members so if it still happens it got rescheduled but anyway so without going on and on about what don transplanting. I thought this podcast we winning comedy here. But that's a big part of why i struggle with some of these films. That's and it's and this was definitely not a struggle clarify. It was nice fun. Thrill ride just enjoyable just a good time you know and i love the characters and everything you know. I thought he did a fantastic job. And i bought all of it. I bought all of it. I loved it. Yeah so so. It's just some of the humor is tough for me. That's all but like. I said. I think i think i'm gonna try that. Rob i think i'm going to go into certain films knowing. It's like okay dan. This is not a black christmas. It's not trying to be you know it's not trying to be. He's out there trying to be hush. This is a different style. And i'm going to see if i can just grow on me. You know it may or may. Not but i wanna be open that at i want to just shut off from a certain style. I don't like sometimes. I mean a real house but that's like a. It's an intense henry. It's great love that type of sometimes it's just want a break from. I like to watch a horror film of laugh a little bit exactly and this was the perfect. You don't wanna be so. Yeah right dramatic. That and i like the nice combination in if i didn't like the characters in the story i would probably hate the film but you learn but it works in so many different ways. it's something you've definitely have seen before but like i said the the the main stories just a lot of phone for me so but i i. I want to touch on that part. You know we talked about earlier is yes. You've seen some of this before. But i loved what he did with the scouts You know i liked what he did with two three kids. And i just love that out that part of it. Yeah you know it could have easily just had three friends right. That weren't scouts right. And you know all this all the layers but it wouldn't have had the impact. I talk talked about the leader's all the time. They has layers and this this year that extra layer and And that just made a big difference to me it really because they had this bond. It's like okay. Well you could do that in another film and their friends and their old you know and they have a bond. Yeah but then you can build on that and they can make the weapons from ace hardware within. There's this loved all but then there's the conflict between the characters because the the one the two characters wanna leave the scouts guys like adamant about the scott. That's right and he's hurt. And then they discover that. Wow i hurt my friend right out about the scouts. it was about. Hey i hurt my friend. That's right that's right and it's all that's what the movie's about it's about friendship and then they have the certain stereotype that they have to fight against with other with everybody out like all you know what i mean. It's like they know that the scouts not cool. So there's this stigma about.

Falk time french. Because i always forget this but poirot is belgian which is also line and even under the. Yeah a little fast goes out. You've shown the gandhi bell to deliver your stash the nc sloppy. You know they were doing it you know. They were because i was like come on. He's not laying in that bad like in the mesh underwear like by accident. What you're dream to sleep issue even a car you fill will deliver ones that you were to pay raging And didn't know that you knew so familiar. No turbie to get his whole bear with the to pay. I mean for a movie where a lot of quote unquote frivolous things are going on. There's it's pretty trim in terms of like the fat on the bone here. Well you have to do this stuff with laser precision otherwise it's just a free for all. Yeah always mess. It feels like cacophony like airplane. It feels a cacophony but that is done with laser precision. Yeah yes people don't like this. Is the thing when actress talk about like. Oh comedy is harder to do than drama like they. I think they're specifically talking about those types of things where it's like it's gotta be precise it's got to be specific and it has to be. It has to be quick and not. Everybody has that ability to do that. I know because it's not just about your intentions or your emotions or whatever acting had to bring the scene but there's also timing rhythm tone. Does that language of comedy. I was talking about. You have to know what words to hit in the words to hit this science and psychology behind it. It's it's very complicated. There's so many as you have to factor in at that. You either have it or you don't yes and the thing you were saying was that it's a character driven story so if you don't if you're not a character then there really isn't a place for you in it you know. So yeah i. It's just walking away from it of like god. this is really just. This should be held up as like a scene study in terms of like how to do comedy because everyone is doing amazing. Comedic work amazing work. I said this the scene where james. Her bensimon is first meets. The cook in the kitchen is brilliantly stupid because he's blind and she's deaf mute. Yes yes yes. Which and such a bummer. That all these teams are my favorite scenes in the movie with alec baldwin alec baldwin alleghenies and the main depend on visuals. So i can't play the audio all right. I'm gonna take a sidebar. I'm learning from listeners. And from a lot of other people that the younger folk don't like this movie. Oh okay it's offensive offensive offensive offensive. Not funny all right and clues better. Okay so i mean. I knew we were going to get to the clue comparison eventually but i mean this movie walked so clue could run. Yes exactly yeah to quote my murphy. From dan lewis and macos is wise thing sometimes and i write them down. I mean she's absolutely right like this is. I don't think clue would have happened if this hadn't happened because this was actually. This was a hit. This was successful. This moving ahead. Peter sellars didn't think so right. A crazy story directed by women re about an artist named barbara in europe and she has a show finally and her piece of art is stolen and the cameras are able to Kind of find out who stole the picture and she has. Name's karl and she goes to his trial and he goes to jail and she keeps visiting him in jail and they become good friends and when he gets out of jail. They become like entangled in this relationship. That's almost codependent. And i wonder you know. I know where it left off but i wonder what it is. Now you know we did it. Turn into something more. I think they're making a narrative version of this as well but pretty fascinating stuff. Yeah i still haven't watched that one. That was going to be the next doc. I watch before. We got to this. But i never got a chance to so. I'm i'm definitely looking forward to checking it out. I'll just say one one other one that just throw on the list. We we touched on it on our top narratives episode but we should mention it again Bloody nose empty pockets. Which isn't really a documentary but is going to you know end up. In many documentary talks for the year It kind of rides a strange line between documentary and narrative film because it's all baked but It's about the closing of a Las vegas bar. Although it's not really shot in las vegas and all of just the people who inhabit the bar and they're the regulars there and you just kind of spend all this time with them and it's a really interesting movie. It probably would be my number six on this list Did did you What'd you think of it. Like as a documentary feature blended thing. I didn't think anything of it. This documentary blended future because it's not a documentary. Yeah it's about a it was on my narrative line. No it's about a fake bar. That's closing and fake bar means fake patriots. They're calling it a documentary still. They're trying to get it away as documentary. I mean it's not a documentary. I wouldn't make my list but it did make my list of top narrative so there you go all right. Well i think that does it. I think this is fun. And hopefully yeah in. Hopefully in two thousand twenty one will will be able to squeeze in a couple of Documentary episodes in the traditional piecing it together format because you know does so many great documentaries every year definitely ones where the golden age for documentaries right now because of all these you know all these streaming platforms right so like you know the next three down on my list. One was like a netflix. mini series. One was bbc hour. Long thing and one was a wwe network five parter so there you go. You know like there's so many different ways you tell stories now and so many different outlets and you know like city hall which is like a five hour. Documentary is on top ten list this year tour. I think they're making a narrative version of this as well but pretty fascinating stuff. Yeah i still haven't watched that one. That was going to be the next doc. I watch before. We got to this. But i never got a chance to so. I'm i'm definitely looking forward to checking it out. I'll just say one one other one that just throw on the list. We we touched on it on our top narratives episode but we should mention it again Bloody nose empty pockets. Which isn't really a documentary but is going to you know end up. In many documentary talks for the year It kind of rides a strange line between documentary and narrative film because it's all baked but It's about the closing of a Las vegas bar. Although it's not really shot in las vegas and all of just the people who inhabit the bar and they're the regulars there and you just kind of spend all this time with them and it's a really interesting movie. It probably would be my number six on this list Did did you What'd you think of it. Like as a documentary feature blended thing. I didn't think anything of it. This documentary blended future because it's not a documentary. Yeah it's about a it was on my narrative line. No it's about a fake bar. That's closing and fake bar means fake patriots. They're calling it a documentary still. They're trying to get it away as documentary. I mean it's not a documentary. I wouldn't make my list but it did make my list of top narrative film so there you go all right. Well i think that does it. I think this is fun. And hopefully yeah in. Hopefully in two thousand twenty one will will be able to squeeze in a couple of Documentary episodes in the traditional piecing it together format because you know does so many great documentaries every year definitely ones where the golden age for documentaries right now because of all these you know all these streaming platforms right so like you know the next three down on my list. One was like a netflix. mini series. One was bbc hour. Long thing and one was a wwe network five parter so there you go. You know like there's so many different ways you tell stories now and so many different outlets and you know like city hall which is like a five hour. Documentary is on top ten list this year tour. So yeah there's plenty of stuff out there man some well We wrap it up. Why don't you tell people about what's going on with awesome ouvriere awesome movie year is just finishing season. Who was you know you would have been available at the time. Right is the fee to arts won't is always. They aren't good enough for that. Was the best actor are we all. We don't see skin color. We don't see we don't know every all those people that's the fire. There was another Incident earlier on that Really showcased the need for diversity in filmmaking and that's a monster hunter world yes. There was What turns out to be a racist joke in it. Nobody realized it was racist. But when it hit china there it caused a massive massive backlash to the point where they removed it out of the out of the movie right so all they needed was somebody who would have been able to look at it and go Yeah we can't put that in. Especially nowadays like i can understand thirty years ago or so. They're like oh we don't have translation or we don't get it nowadays google. That's the thing is that actually. I mean yes. I agree that that now is better than but even then there was no excuse right. I mean i know we always say oh. It's actually because we're in comics. Actually portray a block superhero as being the main hero. Right i have to say oh makes it was no it was illegal you could not portray a blanket uber euro as the main guy which is why when you see like a falkand originally in his story he's a huddle because they couldn't have them as i mean i'm not agreeing to those right just sort of really stupid that they did this right. It was like that's why like me. Catherine erica block. I wouldn't care or asian. who cares. it's the fact that the character should still be can america. But that's that's comic books have actually been yes. There was during the golden age and silver age. There was a lot of restrictions about what they show in that kind of but they were pushing the envelope. Well before right side all star but also also all of the gender switches all of the. Can you see mayo. Having having wall leads to act the we and amazing and wonderful with bondage issues. Well i mean there's nothing is ever perfect really whereas you know. Tv and movies are much slower to adopt. Because you to those again that same thing that argument everyone says which is you need a big name. It's the best actor blah blah blah. All this kind of stuff. But that's the one of the nice things about this sort of breakout of of internet culture which there are not many nice things about it but one thing i think is good. I was gonna say because superman right. Christopher royal an unknown me tongue money. So it's you don't you could. You don't need it. It's pretty these kinds of movies. Now like the the bigger the i mean and you can see it right now. They're putting out ten star wars movies and like whatever five thousand level marvel. There's no room for anything new or interesting or having different different people or different character to different after tell different stories even and so we need. If you spend all this money you need to then make a huge amount of money on in return and then it makes them even more cautious. Which means you didn't make name star people to go. Sag anything about the controversy. The whole okay was. I've read the mind though in the manga. She is not looking asian. Either but that doesn't matter that's my right eye and that they're like oh. She's not japanese like kim. It was they said we have to. We have to make a big name star here because otherwise no one cares about this obscure Japanese mega right. Like that was the sort of idea. But the thing is. I was gonna say because the main guy they had for the boss of the whole organization. He never spotted wish. L. is also takashi. I love i got there. He never spoke english once the entire movie right so but yeah no. It's just like. I said. I was stirring the pot on purpose to get a good discussion going all and having a section three into the problem with doing a segment three with this much stuff in news and rumors and all of our talk about our our segment.
