"Be two quarterbacks in trade next winter. There's as little wilson whispers last year but You know he. He basically saying i don't want to be traded. But here's my list of teams that if you wanna trade me like any of these teams and announce who knows how this plays up but cited find out but I think we're gonna talk about the cardinals. They're playing the niners this week and the cardinals now are weirdly in the driver's seat this division because the rams defense is not as good as i think we thought it was going to be. Aikman talked about that tonight. I pay. I spent three dollars in them. I think it both of my fantasy leagues. I've had they're gonna be this dominant defense suggests they're not just not the niners. I don't know how this lance garoppolo who knows how this shakes out. They also have. They seem to have a black cloud over them to those guys injured left and right. So maybe it's the cardinals year. Now we're about to get two million dollar for schrager. We went against the cardinals spoiler in a underdog partly the week so they go fascinating division. The nfc west. Who could guess who could against that would be the marquis not only the best division but also like the week to week rollercoaster. Ride the vision at the same time coming up after pearl jam. Peter schrager of excited. I are friends who approach all right. Peter straker joins us every thursday. We talked football. Do million are picks. We'd been on fire. We'd went for eight straight weeks dating back. two weeks. Last year finally had a losing week last week. The patriots conditional pick on the patriots. Saved this more damage. Lost one hundred sixty four thousand dollars. We are now up. Five hundred.

"Bs out much sooner rather watch that than watch another show. Try to gin up on anger. About paul george not being able to get it done in the big game so we go down this conversation in the angelo hall. Who is as kula guys. There is is like. I have a confession to make. I'm scared of clowns. Always have been. That's the thing with people hours will be they freak me out and then it became like this four minute conversation on a football show on the nfl network about the angelo halls. Fear of clarence its origins. And how we're going to get through this and why we need to address this head on. So it's it's it's a dead zone literally if any. Nfl player wants to put out an instagram. Video will find five minutes to talk about it. However if you hear a personality this is the best time of the year because our show is slow loose and wide open in this one. We weird quirky moments. And when kyle brandt does something that's really strange or when k will go on some grant that she doesn't like x y and z because of the or when i can try to be myself and Bitch and moan about things all day long. So we're taping this on wednesday and the news came out a little a little while before we started taping so i would assume now your thursday show. We'll be very very heavy on the gulf match. That's gonna take place with brady. And mickelson against aaron rodgers and bright and shambo that was thirty one segment where it's probably a question. What's your dream and what you call. Founding parents then go into the next level and say okay if the hall of fame busts who split up preparing sue onto which to hall of fame bus. Would you like to see. Go against you then. It's all right. Golf is one thing if you can go mini golfing with a couple of drinks and yet who are you going with that case so yes we will do plenty with the gulf. I attended on this if you had to play golf today with three people who would you pick. Nfl related know.

"Not only be my favorite of the summer holidays. It might be the best day of the entire year and we have to celebrate our nation's wonderful independence right. That is the wrong answer. The correct answer would be one memorial day. Starting this summer you got a couple of months of laziness going on you. Shed the winter if the second answer is labor day because like you said it's the start of the nfl season and third and probably one of the worst holidays fourth of july because of fucking fireworks. Which i hate so that he can be oppressive right. Yeah yeah that too. But it's funny that you would hate labor day when i mean i see labor day and all i think about the nfl. And it's a beautiful feeling. Did you see last week on the erin andrews. Chris thompson podcast. The story they told about. Larry david getting in the elevator. Tom brady incredible. Is that not just a phenomenal story. That just makes you smile so much so let me just talk people quickly. If they missed it it was at the kentucky derby few years ago thomson the elevator with a bunch of people. Larry walks in and according to chris thompson. You have to watch her do it. Because she does the perfect. Larry's larry there in the elevator. Tom doesn't say a word. I mean larry doesn't say where it's tom brady. Says and larry turns around and goes. Oh hey tom and then turns right back around and faces the elevator doors come on. Isn't that beautiful. That beautiful is tremendous in the backstory. That chris has. I've heard that sort from chrissy before she tells it amazing. Yeah is that larry. Of course is a diehard jets fan. So like there's so many things could go down and it just doesn't even give him a time of day larry david. I know you've met him before you were at no idea. Yeah yeah it comes scarred scarred. It was occur premier. That i got invited to let me tell you something. I'll be honest. I asked you. They were filming in new york. Must.

"With it because at first it seemed like roger didn't wanna go down of these roads but then he did because he was steered that way and credit to kenny. Makes a lot of other lesser skilled interviewers would've let rogers dictate what was going to be asked and how that was done. Just being so overwhelmed that even gave the interview. But the fact that he isn't such a zen like kun-bae abode and still can't give an inch to the fans is still can't give an inch packers. Say let's wait and see tells me that he he has thought this through. It might not just be over this offseason. It might be a couple of years in the making now. Okay so week one in september. You think there's a legitimate chance. He's not the quarterback of the packers. So the next question is do you think he's starting quarterback for another team or do you think he's enjoying retirement. How much are the packers gonna take their heels in. That's the question. Because they own rights. And i say well no team should on a player's right. Guess what it's sports it's business. I don't know to tell you like they're not gonna just let them walk and they're certainly not gonna trade over sixty cents on the dollar. So do the broncos of the raiders. Make some crazy deal and they have to consider it. I don't think they would even listen until they know for sure that this guy is one hundred percent not coming back. And i've spoken to matt leflore. And he's the head coach and mike we talked to la flora off the record on the record. You could see it in his eyes. It's just like oh my gosh like please please. Please find a way to get him back because he knows. This guy is so special. He's such a good quarterback and rodgers went out of his way to say. It's not the coach's jordan love so i i don't want users so if the packer it seems like they're not going to. It seems like his beef with the gm. It seems like they're not going to fire the gm. But if they let's say they did fire the gm hypothetically he just comes back like nothing happened. I don't i don't think they're gonna even consider going down that road and you know the two names are mark. Murphy and brian gouden counts. And what rogers said to kenny. Mayne which is really interesting was like people in philosophy and then he goes down the history. Books that has like curly. Lambeau and brett farve. In the minister of defence. Mike holmgren end. The feeling i get is that there are thirty. Two teams in the nfl. Thirty one of them one way. One one team is in a small town in wisconsin. That has no. they're professional. Sports doesn't have an owner. it's the packers. So when he starts talking about corporations corporate interests it almost feels like he's really turned off by the way that that small market team has tried to become as conglomerate or this corporation or this business in truth matters the communication before drafting jordan. Love wasn't as good as it should have been to someone who they cherish as much now. The other side can argue. And say we're gonna have how we run by our player decisions by aaron rodgers. Will you know. I guess we didn't know that going into whatever it is another side to there's this which is the site i'm on. They should have told them they were drafting jordan. Love they screwed up. They did a bad job. You have to get over it now like grow up and get over it now..

"Your comeback influence or the year is logan pa. Yeah so logan. Paul as we all know got into a scandal a couple years back. He posted a youtube video in this forest. In japan that was known for It's called like suicide forest or something like that. Probably not a good idea to be filming or going into a suicide forest in general but he filmed a man who Had committed and kind of made a joke about it and it was really horrible and people totally on him rightfully so. But it's kind of the first truly cancelled influence. Yeah i think he. I think he was was the kick. Start to the cancel culture but recently i haven't watches videos as much. I know ben has been watching a lot. But i've been following him lightly and he seems like he's really changed his entire mentality and a super apologetic about what he did and learn from it and he's trying to shift its content towards sings that he finds more interesting and has totally educated himself. So happy for you paul. Glad you learned and that you took cancel culture and you learn from your mistakes. So i think i think he's on a good route right now.

If you missed at this week bring into a lot of sports media topics and a lot of Twenty twenty highlights and lowlights. low last. dance announcers. We got into this year and much of you know dealing with the pandemic so it's a good episode here last one of twenty twenty one to thank everybody for listening really appreciate it. To partout of a special year end as i media podcast roundtable covering the air and sports media and pop culture with peter schrager andrew perello. Welcome to the media podcast joining a same crew. As last week we did a little pop culture media discussion last week going into christmas. Now going into new year's peter schrager from good morning football andropov back for a little sports media. Roundup twenty twenty awards episode jimmy awards and sports media. Okay jimmy take people behind the scenes about the debate. We had yesterday. Schrager thinks this podcast. Basically oh yeah. There's a lot of behind the scenes like you guys. Maybe if you're watching this on youtube you you might be shocked. They're in the same clothes as last week. Everything here is just wild. But i wanted to talk about some sports media stuff do like a year urine review thing but schrager does work for. Nfl network and fox is objectively. Could be a little bit skewed. Pro off. Works of the dan patrick show so he may come out like every other radio show in america so you got to walk a fine line here but you guys know where they work so take everything from what it is and it's going gonna talk about some things timeout andrew can i. Can i add in some some color on this test Gene comes out and we politely asked if we're reviewing the entire year in sports media. Can we get some ideas. I wanna talk about so we can kind of be prepared. It was all like things that jimmy was interested in that. I don't give a shit about like manning. Join twitter like jimmy i. There's not a thing that was not going to be a single topic. When i was gonna sit here. I'll do an example of what i wanted to be. Okay so this is what i wanted to do with these guys. "Re lls has a show called breaking the band and it's all about how bands break up famous bands and widen broke up but they use actors as as as actress to Rian like to night the. Dude it's the Trashier TV. It's so good when Eddie van Halen died they ran the van Halen one and it was amazing about how David, Lee? Roth. And Sammy? Hager. This and I. and. I watched the journey one I watched the Beatles one I watched a led Zeppelin on on a network I didn't know existed right reels network are e L Z, and then if there's a third show because these are the recommendations you come into Jimmy China's podcast where you want to hear my love on the spectrum and my breaking the band the good ones so far. I got into a show with my wife. It's it's not breaking bad and it's not madman. This show is called little fires everywhere. It's on Hulu. Now, the one thing that concerns me about that is that my fifteen year old niece watches that show so is she watching something inappropriate or you guys watching something that's for younger people Jimmy it's set in nineteen ninety seven. Okay and it is dripping in the style. Okay dripping I'm talking soundtrack wardrobe. Stars Reese Witherspoon in our Guy Joshua Jackson who loved and mighty. Greek. Yeah. From the creek the Creek Green. Creek is coming Netflix. So is it everyone loves their Vanderbeek? I'm more Jackson Guy. Jackson and and then. Kelly Kerry Washington I'm going blank. Homes no you homes, Michelle Williams. Talking is it Carrie Washington Kelly Washington who's in scary Washington is on scandal? Yes. She's the lead. In this thing these are three heavy hitters. The kid actors are incredible. Little Fires Everywhere It's one thousand nine hundred ninety seven Shaker Heights. Ohio. A small town in Ohio and there is a a couple of things that happened in the town but it goes back and forth time and it's it's your it's your nineteen ninety seven nostalgia that if you want to hear. A little. Alanis Morissette if you want to hear a little garbage, I'm only happy when it rains, this is the soundtrack to the show and the acting thing tasks out say it gets some parts of like this writing's terrible and then actually the show's really good. I, like it. So I'm GONNA throw that one there little fires again. So this is this is a good way to end this since you mentioned a Lantis you and a show about nineteen ninety-seven and all the nostalgia the ringer I think it was last week put out. Asking people. But the three most definitive songs of the nineties were. Wow. I. So I only saw it because Greg Shinsegae who covers the NHL. NHL FOR ESPN longtime blogger and probably the best that covering NHL he tweeted he had named. Smells like Teen Spirit, which I thought was obvious one. To you is that I know it reminds us. Cultural Significance. Is One of your favorite song that. Song. Nirvana no, it's not one of my favorites but I think it is one of the definitive songs of the nineties. But he also mentioned. He went with TLC and he mentioned creep and I had responded to him and said, we're needed free over waterfall. So if you had three definitive songs of the nineties are your three favorite ninety songs, I it's I hate when people ask me these questions on the spot because you always something and you have to get but. He think his other one was Britney. I mean, it's fair..

"It. If you missed any reason episodes of the media podcast dip into the archives, we had Ernie Johnson from. TNT and inside the NBA last week Jim Miller was on two weeks ago Al. Michaels. Dan Patrick. Kevin Harlan. All on the podcast recently as well. So give those listen, subscribe, rate and review. Right. Let's get to this week's show with the always entertaining Peter Schrager. Joining me now one of my favorites from good morning football and the NFL network. Peter Schrager shrieks as it going what's up Jimmy I love being on the podcast was honored to get the tax than here. I love having you. You know that. Give me a little. I mentioned Good Morning Football. We know you're on there Monday through Friday what's going on with the Fox because you usually on the pre pre game show you doing that from home this year now you're not obviously traveling. Every week. Well, it's not that obvious that could start soon. In fluid. But yes, it's actually worked out really well, I've been in a New York studio. And they've been using me just as much as they were. So I play the role or not the role, but my role is essentially what you see. Jay Glazer on the noon show and eleven am that's me mean I'm the first one with the news and this year it's been really important role because eleven eleven am is when these Kobe Tessa coming out. On their football Sunday morning become a health expert in a health in medical guy because I'm out there telling you exactly how many. Tests have been conducted and when this game's going to be and I'm the first person on the on the screen for Fox. To start their day of football. So it's been a big role on. It's actually worked out really well, and the chemistry is shockingly really good with the guys who are in studio. It's funny. You say that because I was going to ask you because I know for me I mean you're the business of the NFL I'm not but it's crazy to me that you basically you wake up to start your day start scrolling through twitter, and then like it seems like between eight and eleven is when all these Cova. newsbreaks happened and you're actually on the air with good morning football. That's gotta be. A little bit tough. If you're like, you know in the middle of some segment, you guys are you know you guys do obviously hardcore football's up your lighthearted shown all sudden it's like, Oh, well, this games being postponed and they have four tests and you're live on the air. That's GonNa Cause Some commotion I would guess in your ears. Balance, of town. You're right. So nine am is when I'll get the text from my sources at the League because I plugged into those guys, it's a little earlier than when it comes out everywhere and it's like, Hey, falcons facilities shutdown titans have two tests whatever and we're in the middle of the segment where Kyle Brandt is talking about saved by the bell and comparing it to the Denver broncos offensive line. Why Lisa Turtle is the next Philip Lindsey or whatever it? WHO KNOWS And it's like wait a second guys guys..

"He had his own show where he would talk. Nba Craig kilborn. Yes the next four and like a great one that would always be on. Everyone knows Stuart Scott and Dan Patrick and Keith Olbermann but seeing Linda Cohn is so nice like these are the. These are the people we grew up with. It's fantastic Charley Steiner and Jack Edwards Kenny. Mayne you know it's it's that's to me is you know. That's when I watch sports center I watch Van Pelt and you know now if I'm up but like that's when you had to watch it you you had no choice. If you're a sports fan you had to watch it. Basically realize that we used to wake up Monday mornings open a newspaper and tabulate. How many rushing yards. You're running back ad and how many touchdowns at this is how we did. Fantasy sports. Us It with a marker in the newspaper and You would only get your highlights from. Chris Berman and Tom Jackson on a Sunday night. Because there's no chance before direct TV that you even saw that rams forty niners game on the West Coast and so a gym effort did like in the people that told us and shaped our opinions on sports or those guys. I mean I do the morning show now for NFL network. I can't imagine I'm coming on many Monday mornings and I'm telling the viewer about a game. That happened on Sunday. If you're watching our show they don't already know what happened to it was always the Monday morning was always USA Today. Because I couldn't take a chance that the daily news of the post would be like a late addition the Sunday night. Giving me because you had a great the fantasy fantasy game that week so get. Usa Today aren't we covered it? All we We went through it. Is I know you wanted to talk about the answers or anything left on the table for you to say I love it but I also am open saying we might need episodes twelve thirteen fourteen. Fifteen sixteen it'd be nice what Here's a question for you. Let's do this if there was if they were going to do something similar to the last dance. Same exact thing with one. Nfl Player. Who would you want to see a bi who asked me team? It would be like no okay. Nineties cowboys cowboys. The amazing player I go back and forth because there's guys who have these wild lives like off the field and there's guys that are just truly committed on the field Yeah I could. I could go a lot of ways and I don't have an answer. Who aren't there a nineties? Cowboys would be the ultimate documentary. It's still hasn't been don. None of those guys have gotten on camera. None of them have gotten together. But the stories that you get whether it be from Jeff Perlman's book or from and not even the salacious stuff. I'm talking just the stories of Dave. Want Stat explaining the defensive meetings. You know to me when I'm doing my show for Fox like these guys have so many stories that have not been told and I feel like now is the golden era would love a ten part series on the Jimmy Johnson. And then even the Barry Switzer cowboys that. Aras fantastic to me. That's a good answer. Good answer do you know when the when the running back with Kyle doing the oilers those light tonight Jose night they'll dot com okay and then it'll be on youtube as well? I? I don't know if you're a fan of listening to me Gab With you right now. If you're listening you don't usually watch good morning football kyle and I. We have a blast. Together it's fun and if you've enjoyed what Jimmy you're talking about going back down memory lane. I I greatly encourage you to give it a shot. I think you'll like it. It's perfect because I wanted an old oilers game Warren Moon run-and-shoot so I will This comes out Wednesday morning so it'll already be on. Nfl Network that's perfect. You'll get plenty of Haywood jeffries. If you wish there you go love it and give Ernest given misgivings. Curtis Duncan Cardis Dunkin. That's it that was it right there and they never had a good running back. Who's the running back? Lorenzo white up in this game though. It's Garry Brown remember. The giant Browns was hurt. "The you know who knows if preseason start on time etc how many preseason games how much. How much time would what would a football player? Need to get ready for the season if it start on time. And he brought up an excellent point. I hadn't thought of that. Every person in the League is different. Because they're all working out differently right now. He's in Wisconsin on his ranch. Which you know God only knows what Kinda. Jimmy's got up there where he said other guys might just have to bands and they're running at their high school track so even for the players. You know you brought up mcvay in the coaches. Even for the for the players. From a training standpoint there's a huge pendulum there and it's completely different team two team. I know one team that has requested that players take a photograph of the scale. And tell me how to weigh in every day and send it in to the trainers just so we could keep your weight maintenance and like another team who says all right two hours two days a week will do zoom stuff and will have guest speakers and trust you guys do your work on your own like there's a whole other strategy going on now with how you're gonNA manage the quarantine in the workout both mentally and then of course like you just mentioned what. Jj Watt physically. Because quite honestly if you are a player who lives in the actual city like some eagles. I know live in an apartment buildings with you. Know maybe twelve hundred square feet in a family like that's a very different situation to get your get your body in shape than what J. J. Watt stealing within the cabinet in the woods. So I didn't hear what you just said. I've been shaking ever since you said you have to take a picture of your weight and send it entrust. Could you imagine I know have you have? You had a big like quarantine indulgence. A couple of weeks ago I went through a big fritos. Fr- phase whereas eating way too many fritos. Quarantine indulgence that you. You've had too much of I went early bad like I went early like frozen pizza man and then I cut it back and then now it's like you know we could talk all day about how life has changed but you got a kid. He's getting home schooled. We've got I work from home now. My wife works. We're we're we're working. It's tire and then at the end of the day I I convince myself. It's okay to have five scoops of Ben and Jerry's earned this and that's the indulgence. I'm going with Ben and Jerry's fly off the shelves. These days is very very hot commodity. Yeah this is Jon Wertheim if you like this show and our sports illustrated podcasts. There's another show. We think you should check out. It's called against the rules against the rules. Have you had an incident with like you're on live on good morning football and your kid comes in the room. Have you had any of that yet? Yes and like nate. Nate Burleson was like doing like a passionate take on. Like I'm like you know like cove in nineteen and the importance of what it is in Seattle before four box which TV terms is that that Brady bunch screen. You see where there's four people's faces on nate's talking about like the local impact of Corona virus in Washington state and my son just walks right in as Daddy. Where's the toy car? You let the audio on the microphones on and it just is like this is what it is. Is it endearing maybe? Is it annoying? Perhaps but it is what it is. I think I'm someone who's like. Let it roll. Don't try to fix it. Don't try to make it nice and let it roll roll. 'cause that's the days a caused lights went out. Cows likes out and instead of US running from it and you know all right. We're we're still in studio guys. Know we leaned into it and I was like we just critiqued. How budget has set up is like no. He's got like a lamp. You have in your college dorm room. And I'm like that's in your home. So you bought that land for your home. And then there's a whole discussion about kyle go into Ikea to you. Know outfit his right downstairs basement when Adam schefter looks like you know his in the College Library University of Michigan right eye to eye to tape and video everyday for whatever the lead item in my columnists. I had to take one today. With about Lamar Jackson the Shell. Freida that eats before every game. And the guy. Take the video with Robin Lumbergh. Who's our our video host? His kid was like you know making a little noise before we started in that trying to keep them quiet. Listen if if the kid is like crying or making noise while wishing video I'll tell robin stuff some shrimp. Alfredo Dana's Alibaba and we'll be fine. Like just let it roll very very early on in this thing because we all remember the video of the guy on the BBC kid. Crying very early on this thing. I was watching. Nfl LIVE ON ESPN. And it was like right at the start of free agency and Matt Hasselbeck doing something from his basement and you see the treadmill in the background and the phone shaking like wild and I like what is I kinda like it. It's so budget. And Hasselbeck is a former star flared all the stuff and he's so smart and I texted on like I don't know what was going on but I love the fact that you're living life like the rest of US needs like right. My sixteen year old daughter was filming that on on the IPHONE and Mike. Yes that's how it should be. That's what life is exactly and because in this situation now the old games are in place so you and kyle. I'll just say this. I wrote a column early on this probably in mid March when this all first started and I made a plea every network every sport every network old games. We don't need new. I was coming off where like ESPN was popping up this classic NFL game and it was chiefs rams from last year. No I need I think. The primary I said is anything from nineteen. Eighty to nineteen ninety-five..

"Hope you are all safe and healthy and staying in and surviving the madness that we have been going through good not good great actually going to pump it up. Great podcast today. We've got Peter Schrager from the NFL network and Fox sports on the show. We covered a million topics into broadcasting booths. Three people versus people who we think could be good for Monday night football. We like what we don't like from announcers talked about watching old games. We talked about the last dance. When in depth on Michael Jordan were talked about some issues. We might have with the last dance that you won't hear anywhere else because ESPN people are not going to criticize it We discussed the NFL schedule in terms of Christmas and Thanksgiving. We discussed What we're going through here a little bit to quarantine and what how that will affect NFL teams and what NFL front offices. Think about what's going on so we get into a little bit of that and really covered a bunch of topics with Peter Schrager. Who of course is on Good Morning Football Monday through Friday on the NFL Network and works for Fox sports and the sidelines for them as well? So that is this week show. It's really good. Peter was great last week. I in Eagle from. Cbs was on the show. Two weeks ago Chris. Long and three weeks ago Michael Imperatively and Steve Sherpa from the soprano. So if you missed any of those you can dip into the archives and give those listen. You're not a subscriber to the media. Podcast pleased the subscribe. Button helps me tremendously. And that's it. Let's get to this week. Show right now with the always fun. Peter Schrager Four. Okay join me now. One of my favorites from the best morning show on television also from Fox sports. Peter Schrager hasn't been on in a while strikes going. Jimmy how we doing. Thanks for inviting me onto the podcast. You you know you have an open invite anytime you you have so many good like pop. Culture takes always loves mixing. It up with you. I gotTa thank you though. All you guys doing podcast. I swear an every week listener when it's non quarantine time but the audio medium of podcasts. I find to be a lot more palatable than sitting in front of a TV all day. When you're in the house on the couch. I like being able to go outside listening. Walking and your podcast has been great. The Iron Eagle one. I must say as required. Listen one of the great person held. He's of our game and you guys did a fantastic job with him. I appreciate that I get zero credit. I was tremendous just him imitating raftery and Chris Russo and the stories he has Jerry Jones He. He was phenomenal last week. He really was one of the one of the best guys in sports media. That's you always hear that about everyone and we'll just I mean hell we're doing. Let's just start off and on an Iron Eagle conversation. I did preseason for the jets this year. It was me. Anthony Becht an iron eagle eye on his like a ship. Captain out at sea like just guiding the broadcast could not be more encouraging. But I go back so far with I in that like when I first started doing this in three or four. He knew I was a nets fan because I would call in. Wfan talk about New Jersey Nets basketball. He was the voice of the nets in one day. We were emailing and he was like want to go to a game here. You go got tickets to a nets game at the Brendan Byrne arena allow. I an eagle. This was back when I was like blogging. For whatever website would take it That is salt of the earth. That's a good man right there. That's a great yeah. Did you know that Mike? Breen us when he when he when he does the Knicks Games. Now I don't know if he does it with the national. Espn game the Knicks Games. Before the game is he goes to the like the rafters finds like dad and his on mom mom and dad and kit and brings them down to like lower seats. Does that forever game fantastic? I get a I can't speak for the analysts because they're usually ex players and coaches and there's always a little bit of a guard but those guys I would be really challenged to find a play by play guy at the top levels the Mike Breen. The irony goes the Joe. Bucks gymnasts who are assholes like those guys are genuinely like incredibly hardworking working people and some of the nicest guys I've ever met Kenny. Albert. He's like the nicest dude you'll ever those get Kevin Burkhart. Just neither guy grinders but like totally get it and are self aware and understand that. It's the game not really them. That people are tuning in to watch and stuff like that. You always hear stories. It's usually the play by play guy above and beyond and and there's nobody and you know outside of the players. Obviously there's nobody in sports who gets more shit than the play by play guys because people think they hate their teams they make one mistake idiots like me blow it up and write a column about it. It's the the microscope is on those especially in the NFL. No and it's this. It's I can do what you're doing like corners talking or collins where it's talking the guy at home knows. I didn't have the career Chris Collins Kurt Warner had but if Mike Tariq owes talking like well who's what did he ever play. I could talk like that. None An. It's probably the hardest thing to do is play by play. I don't even know if I could try to it. Have you ever had interest in doing color? I Know Your Network Fox has the number two spot open right now with with Burqa. You WanNa make a pitch to Jacob Ullman or Eric shanks here. Is that anything you'd ever want to do? Of course but I think with me it would be more as like the Kornheiser. Dennis Miller not necessarily with wisecracks but like I did preseason for the rams two years ago with Nate Burleson and Anderson Leon up in the booth being the third man in and in a lot of times I do sidelines chime in but I love. I would love the opportunity to get up in the booth maybe not on a full-time GIG for a game here game there because I speak to every team President general manager coach and it's not just in the production meeting. I do think there's a place for the writer still in like Kornheiser had that opportunity. I'm trying to think if there's any others simmons. I think did a couple of games in the college game and he did studio show like you don't see many of guys who are like sports media guys who are connected being putting up with like the Monday night gig. They're talking about like put Pat McAfee as that guy. I think. Curious to hear Schefter in the booth and he's got all that knowledge and the insight and talks to everybody and it'd be curious to hear some of the commerce whose like I have no problem share in that stuff on good morning football every morning. I think that broadcasting refund but no I'm not gonNA pitch for anything more than what they wanna give me. I'm quite happy with what I do at Fox but you would. You wouldn't mind doing a game as an analyst. I Know Jacob all been listening to this podcast. So maybe he can hear this. And let's get Peter King. Come across as of me saying Oh. I know what I'm saying. I'm not breaking down any replays. I'm not telling you what happened in the three four scheme. But if you WANNA know why Brandon. Bean has a connection with Sean McDermott. I'm your guy you know I can give you the back story. Give you a little more information. I think you'd see you sound smarter. The next morning at the water cooler after listening to a broadcast with one of the guys in my roles as opposed to at not having it so my make it a A case myself no but if there is a guy a writer or anything I would. I wouldn't mind hearing some thoughts on a broadcast every once in a while from someone other than the X. Player the ex coach does. It's it's amazing to me that you've brought this up because I didn't really plan on getting into the Monday night. Football thing and the Fox. And he's a number two analyst thing. I was saving so I'll make about me for a minute and pull back the curtain so like When I wrote my column today on. We're taping this Tuesday afternoons. When I wrote train of thoughts on Tuesday morning I was gonNA write about Monday night football. And what they should do because they formally announced test. Burger won't be back then. I was surfing around the web and I saw a lot of people a lot of media. People have done that so I'm like you know what? Let me save that for maybe two Wednesday or Thursday when it could send out a little more and then I had this story about. Lamar Jackson Needs Shrimp. Alfredo before every single game. That's certainly more important exactly. It was like I can mention the office so I went with that So I'm going to write about this Wednesday Thursday but I'll discuss it with you on a so because I think I saw my good friend Richard Daichi Britain. Something that said. Espn should go with. I think Steve leaving my play by play. And then I think you mentioned riddick and I forgot who it was whatever whatever it was named three people and I despise the three person booth in almost every sport especially the NFL. And I think if you look at the good teams today which are obviously Buchan Aikman and Nansen Romo and Michaels and cal. It's two people but the way you're presenting the third person I think see. I think maybe maybe thought maybe they do that with when they had bugger on the crane. But I do think if you have your traditional play-by-play person traditional analyst and then someone like you who can come in with the anecdotes and the stories about all the people you talk to during the week that works but when you have two people in the booth trying to analyze a three yard run its Bertel. Yes so I go back and forth on it. Because sometimes it's worked like I worked on a crew couple years ago where it was play by play with Thom Brennaman and then Charles Davis and Chris Spielman and they're completely opposite types of analysts and in really worked like and they were so selfless giving up half their analysis to do it but that has to be the case. It has to be where the two guys are willing to cede to the other and say okay. Well you're going to take the lead on this one and all echo you. It's it can't work in a in a in a Into Silos I can't have. Here's the play then. Here's analysts X. Giving his thoughts and here's analysts Z. Not even right bonding. What Xhang and doing what he takes. Now to me Dennis Miller I went back because now is the time to do it. If you can go back and watch old broadcasts like I went back. I watched the jets dolphins game the famous jumbo. Elliott game and like Dennis Miller is on the call and I didn't hate it but like I could see where it would great after sixteen weeks where you've got everyone can talk about Miller now and his politics and I'm not going there especially on a podcast that that you know twitter listens to but at the time he's referencing seventeen eighty s you know comedy from Russian oligarchs but it was unique it was different and then I almost wish there was another year where we could see. Okay how this go kornheiser. I went back and listen to the two thousand six. It was Mike Tirico Joe thighs men. Tony Kornheiser two thousand.

"Well let's go ahead and get this one started. This is me and my buddy Peter. Schrager is going to be a fun. Cincinnati bengals on the clock next to Thursdays from. Now all right. Well let me just start by saying they have the first pick. The best player in the draft is chase young. Who's HIEAUX STATE RIGHT DOWN? The road second most important position in football. So what the I. I'm not going to do. I'm GonNa Take Joe Borough. I'm GonNa take the best quarterback in the draft. I think they'll have options and you'll know more about this than I will but from folks. I talked to if they wanted to haul they could get out and I'm sure Miami would come up and give them a hall of picks but my rules personal rules. You don't trade off of a franchise quarterback and that can be your guy for the next fifteen years turning the card at Joe Borough. Yeah and you know. The thing that that was big at the combine was at borough might not be dying to go to Cincinnati. I think a lot of that has tempered a lot by the time we got into March and now with. What's going on like everything I hear? Is that borough would be more than happy to be the face of the Cincinnati bengals in his home state especially they did in the free agency season where they actually went against the grain and spend a couple couple of dollars and brought new guys. I'm I feel like I'm doing. I'm checking I've got my list. I'm just checking it off. Sri Going through checking them off one by one so he's GonNa snap board number two no funny business here either. This comes from everything. I'm hearing chase. Young is going number two to the Washington redskins. Let's not get silly. Let's just do what you've gotta do to have an identity? The real issue here with to go into the REDSKINS. They haven't had a chance to have them in the facility. They don't know what their doctors haven't seen them. So you look at the redskins. They have a strength on their team and people would argue. You don't just draft something that you already have. And they have a great defensive line and Doron pain and Jonathan Allen and Matt Ryan Isis and even Ryan Kerrigan is still playing good football at thirty one years old. So why would you take chase young well? Because you're Ron Rivera and your defensive coach and you have an identity. We're going to punch you in the mouth and we'll go from there. Do I think going Haskins better than I don't know?.

"Or live in New York City for three days, Adam gates, the jets joining us later on in our number three, but it turned to my right right now. And it is a joy to see you here, sir. Because I loved the show that as I've say all the time that you do with your colleagues on good morning football Peter Schrager here through the here. Honestly, say to I will say this to start our interview what I say to you off camera, and I'll say to here on this show when we launched the NFL network in two thousand three and I was doing NFL total access for all those years up to two thousand eleven when the lockout caused me to lose all of my hair. And and so they're always we're always thinking there has to be some point another show for which the network is known or another tentpole. Good morning football. Is that that's cool. And I think the fact that we're in New York, and it's on the east coast, and coaches and GM are looking for something to talk football in the morning almost the wallpaper the NFL in the morning, which is a huge honor. It's cool. Yeah. On not necessarily I'm watching, but it's on in my office. And I'm like, all right, cool. So that's the case we'll take if I didn't have an ego. You know, because I don't have an ego. Even though the show rich. We're we're in. We're in London. Doing the London game. The eagles versus the Jaguars. Peter you're part of that broadcast. And there's Peter and good morning. Football crew. Was there you were there Kadam zehr. We're going through the interview process with Jacksonville staff and the players all come in. They walked right past me right past. I went right up to Peter and talk about love their show. How might bow? I mean, like, I'm on the total pay no mindless. Hold true. It's a cool deal though. And I'll tell you we were in the production meeting, and we're sitting Ed it's rich. It's and incomes. Doug Marrone, and he kind of blew me off because I had talked negatively about the Jaguars earlier in the week. Give him the hug and the whole thing. He was in a visual mood, a good absolute miserable. And that was halfway through the season and the day before half of a secondary. Twenty thousand pound right free night out in London that was the twenty thousand pounds led to the two ton gorilla. Yes. That that that was part of the whole Jaguar season. Let's get into you're going to be part of the Thursday draft on the NFL networks can me you DJ and Charles Davis out there for for Dana number three day number night. One do you know a single person at all in the NFL who thinks he is not going on overall to the cardinals. I do not I had one person at the league meetings who is not a NFL employees. But it's pretty connected and things. Okay. Pulled me aside and said you've been putting all your eggs in this column to own ah basket. I'd hold off. And this guy knows things. And then I asked around like, no, he's wrong. He's going to number one. So someone has been saying what was what was the hold off theory. The theory being that there might be some mega trade to get up to number one to Arizona and another team. Being in the works. We have a former colleague who has three first round picks for twenty four th and twenty seven and he's the general manager. That's the only team I could imagine that would have the draft capital to even have the the cardinals to consider it. But from everything I've heard everyone spoken to Kingsbury is in love with Kyle Murray. And there's a real relationship. I mean will the relationship is what that he he he recruited them. Try to get him to Texas Tech. They share agent. I mean is. My. Warren high school Kingsbury was recruiting him as if he was the next Joe Montana. Then again when he's transferring from Texas am Kingsbury win again and recruit them very close friends with the father Kevin Murray whose dad this quarterback guru kings various known Murray for close to eight years, you put that all in process here as far as high school college. And now he's not returning to take the job. And and takes the number one pick. Maybe for reason, maybe it was because he thought Cuyler Maury might be available to be his quarterback. So now, we assume that's happening. It's the foregone conclusion despite the guy one guy who's not a guy connected guy in the not a coach GM or league employee. So think about the other world that we work in a lot of time when you have sources sometimes they come from the team side time, they come from the agents is prominent NFL agent who I never lifts removing. So I mean, it's it's. For moving put this one in my head and just it played tricks with me because I've been all in on. Hey, Murray's number one. Let's talk about number two. But that's the only human being you've come. I have come. I have not come across a single human being since we left the combine that's hold your horses. Single one. A single will be lying. If I said, I have also, and there's not been a single person team employees anywhere around the league who has said anything but Murray to the Carl and the second part being all right? Let's talk about where Rosen goes that's where the and that as I wrote in my mock draft that's up at NFL dot com. I don't know that answer. And I don't know where that's going to go, and whether it's going to happen day one when you guys are just getting up there. And it's Thursday night every twenty fifth on NFL network with if it happens if it hap- here's the thing 'cause we've had this conversation before in the show, and I'm glad that you here to have it now Peter Schrager, good morning football here on the rich Eisen show from New York City is that it's gotta happen. The night of the draft. It's got to happen that out of the draft. It cannot happen say the same way that the eagles moved up to number two. And we're all wondering they're coming up for Windsor golf or the cool with whatever the Rams take. I and it's not the same as getting up there. And it's either, you know, knowing that you're trading RG, three fame Washington, giving less need the entirety of his future earnings. Right. It's not the same thing. Because there was luck in front. This is not the same thing. Because Arezzo needs to know when they make this trait that. Cuyler Murray is healthy is walking the planet with two good legs two arms that work doesn't doesn't week before the draft. So baseball's my love well that would be by the way. That's. Would make the af look like a mini series like a one act play, dude. If you're taking everything professions. So they have to know that when they pushed the Rosen trade button Maury is there for the taking. When Roger Goodell puts the cardinals on the clock in Nashville on the last Thursday of this month, a half to place a phone call to Cuyler Murray, and Steve and Michael Bidwell and cliff Kingsbury after hear his voice, they probably wanna FaceTime. They wanna see him and the voice come out of his mouth and say take nice wide shot Cuyler, do jumping Jack Kaiser. I can't confirm that he'll be at the draft. But it would be really reassuring. If you're the cardinals if he is you see him in the human flesh. He's on TV. He's in a suit he's going to the NFL, and he's healthy. And he's good. And if he starts saying, maybe I'm going to be at home, then he Stargate, wishy washy, I I wanna know your all in and healthy and four we trade Josh roses. Because then it's I mean, you need to have that in your back pocket. Well, it's going to have it in his top. Right. George top left drawer ready to pull out once they choose. And then the trade will be announced is to where Josh Rosen goes because they need those draft picks that night. They need to get that thing done on the spot. And right, even if another team comes out right now and says, I'll give you my man, they can't they can't take it right now. Agreed because that would leave them with no quarterbacks of decides to just say, I'm not coming to come or whatever that's the number of times. Peter straker. Good morning football here on the show, the number of times again that we've gone through this process covering the draft that we would hear this is my fifteenth raft and doing for the NFL network cost fifteen and the number of times that we would get grief for showing player on the phone because that tips the pet. Yeah. Sure player, you know, the players about go. So Roger Goodell is like we're not gonna show the players on the phone and people are gonna be like, well, why don't you show players? Wanna see it gives the phone? We want phone answer. And then the question. Why must coaches call the player to say, we're taking you. Why must they do that? Why is that necessary and the answer I get back from every talent evaluator coaching owner or general manager in this league. Is we need to know they're alive, and they're not joking. Yeah. Like literally like, April go to on Letterman, come out thought America. Insane. What you have to. It's for real. You have to know the player that you are drafting is a functioning human being on the planet. And it's the same person you want to don't want to go down a negative wrote here. But last year the Josh Allen thing happens the morning of the draft. Laremy Tunsil thing happened things happen at the draft. So Murray, everything we know is all up. It's great. But you never wanna trae without a backup plan because when you mention trading up for Andrew or trading up for Jared Goff. Well, if Gosselin crazy happened, we'll take once if we trade to get Robert Griffin. Okay. Well, somebody else happens. There's all these other quarterbacks in this draft. They are trained if they are taking that first pick. It is Kyle Murray. They're not taking Haskins or lock right? It is all in on Murray. So it has to be that guy. And there is no real backup plan. That's why you keep Rosen until then. So what are you hearing about the Rosen market? I mean, our colleague Joel Klatt from FOX. I know and he's going to be on night. Two of the NFL network draft coverage from Nashville, he he said chargers patriots giants are name names. And Joel people say, well, he's not an NFL insider Joel call just about everyone of Josh Rosen. Big games in the Pac twelve for FOX. He called all of Murray's big games for the big twelve for FOX Joel has sources to. So when he said that I followed up with let me said look it happened. Whatever I reported some of those calls may have just been inquiries, and they might have happened before free agency, which leads me to the to the chargers, they signed tyrod Taylor does that mean, they're, you know, come on. I mean Baker Mayfield is the two words you need to hear about him in terms of where where you might go. What I said when we heard after clad like Portugal Taylor, or is it. It is Rodney Rodney ports Taylor. I mean Baker Mayfield. How he could possibly get Rosen's in in Los Angeles. But it makes sense. It makes sense that he's a local kid. Yeah. Certainly makes sense here in New York City. It makes sense obviously, New England at some point is going to have to get that next. Garoppolo right. Yes. And obviously Rosen would be a perfect opportunity to do something like that..

"Oh, this is good. This is good ever. We ask that question. Who's a better analyst Kyle Brandt or Ross Tucker. Who's a better league analyst? We asked that one that was January twenty seventeen I know. All right careful. There's only so many there's only so many conversations out there. I guess God. They keep your head up though. We know I'm in a rut right now, we're going to see each other in Atlanta. I'm gonna put a Brown paper bag over my head. It's gonna and I'm gonna be lugging around. And you take your grew with me the whole, well, we were going to call it a Schrager grill but anymore over go to Patrick grill. But you know, what it was going to be it was going to be stolen meat because apparently that's what you lead the league in there. Yeah. On the great reputation to have. We got more swipes and Ricky Henderson here. This is good. We can. Hey, you're great sport. And I hope you get a chance to come by the set. We'd love to have you come by this hour. I don't be on us wanna say Hello. We'd love to have you come on. We appreciate that. And keep your head up. All right. I know it's going to be a long weekend. Peter Schrager, the co host even though there's four people on good morning football NFL network, and we believe a graduate of Emory University. Although. Check those transcripts. Do we have this day in sports history? Yes, any second. Okay. By the way, drew lock. There's a story. Now, the Missouri quarterback might be a first round pick. He's being asked about he admitted that he cheated on a math test in ninth grade. And that's being brought up by you know, scouts evaluators. Yes. By team asked him an interview, according to the report from NFL dot com. Golly. They're going all the way back to ninth grade. Does he get credit for doing whatever it takes us to eligible to help the team? That's what I would have said look I wanted to stay eligible in a desperate times desperate measures. And then he got a C by the way on the test. So he didn't want throw people off and get like be plus. Yes, mclovin. Teams want to see how they know the answer. They want to see how you react if you lie. Yeah. Yeah. And he told the truth. All right. Paulie this team sports history. You got a favorite Dan, eighteen seventy nine the national archery association was organized and Crawford's Bill Indiana. That's where my statue is dry by got another one. "This week. My guests are Chris Simms of NBC sports Bleacher report, we always have a good session with Chris Simms entering the playoffs every year. I love him because he says everything and he says anything so he's fun to listen to. And also this week Peter Schrager will get caught up on all of the coaching searches around the NFL in the wake of a particularly plentiful black Monday. So I'm going to start talking about black Monday and about the coaching changes, and the one constant refrain that I have heard in the days leading up to the coaching changes as I record this. There have been eight coach firings in the NFL between midseason and now starting with Hugh Jackson and culminating with a six more over the weekend and on Monday.
