"And there's dog action. The first action forty three million dollars the second one double bat. So so. Then it's going to be in the top ten. That's how it works. Yeah. It's also an early summer release. I know we keep saying, yes, I am really. This is probably my most anticipated film this summer other than once upon a time Hollywood. So this is one of movies. I'm most looking forward to John wicks chapter three pair Bill. Jeff, Jeff any of the thoughts on it. I think this is that rated R movie that feels like it doesn't have any other place. You know in the summer. It's it's a franchise that I think has become a little bit of a cult following in, you know, in home video video what you're my in, you know, in view to watch at home. Yeah. So yeah, I didn't have the courage to actually put this on the list. But I think it makes a strong dark worse. And I really I honestly had men in black international on my top ten for quite a while as I was revising it, and I just lost faith in it could very well. Be that comedy that it is kind of feel like detective peak. You might be that though, also that. Yeah. So so I couldn't find a place for it. And so it's it's on my dark horses, and along with all of you as we said at the beginning of the year when we talked about movies, we were most tipping for all of twenty nineteen once upon a time in Hollywood, I just is my second most anticipated movie of the summer after adventures. And actually, I think once upon a time was the movie we thought we would rate as our number one film of twenty nine thousand. Yeah, we're all super excited for it. I mean, I, you know, I think goes about saying so I'm rooting for. I wanted to be great, and I wanted to make money, and I hope it does. So I'm sort of putting it on dark horses. A as actual, you know wish as well. Davinder hardware your three dark horses. Sure. John wick three once upon a time in Hollywood and rocket man. All right. All right. All right. Any comments on any of those? Or now, we've all pretty much talked about him. I was I was debating putting fun time. Hollywood might top ten. I'm not sure just based on what we've seen from that film. So far, the cast great the premise interesting. I don't know what the wide appeal of that movie. It's going to be. But guess we'll see I'm very excited right now because I have a movie on my dark horses at no one else has. But I I wanna see what Peter Saretta says. Well, Dave, I can guarantee you is not on my darkhorse list because I have men in black international, John wick three in rocket, man. Okay. Well, there you go. Any other thoughts on any of those Peter threat, or no, I think it was well said, yeah. Okay. So I have been in black international, right, which I think like is not going to do as well as men in black three, but still could do pretty well once upon a time in Hollywood. Is my second door course. And before I give the final darkhorse. I want to say a little story here. Okay. We said. There's been a lot of talk about musical bio-pics. Right. And. I think many people in the film critic community have wondered aloud what is the point of making a musical bio pic that follows the exact same formula as every other physical bio pic in a post walk hard world. And what they're saying there is at walk hard. The Dewey Cox story did such an amazing job of skewing the musical bio-pic formula. That is literally like once movie is is done. It's like it's like it's like saying like, okay after inception. Like, let's make a thing where you hack into people's dreams..

"Called slash film dot com, and the podcast was a was kind of my excuse to to kind of talk to these people like every episode. We would have on a guest from the film writing world and those early days it was exhilarating because back then. Most people had never heard these people's voices. Like literally, you had never heard their voices like in audio form because there is no podcasting was not nearly as huge back then. And so I felt like we're doing something that no one is doing which is like giving these. Film writers a chance to actually speak with their own physical voice and. And that was really special, and do you think something special happens when you put a microphone in front of somebody who knows a lot, you know, right? You can read their work forever. And what you'll get us a sense of that person you'll get their pros. You'll get like the version of their thoughts after many many edits or something I'm really interested in, you know, what do you what are the words? Come you're out of your mouth immediately. You know, what are your thoughts immediately, unfiltered version? Exactly. And I think I found that endlessly fascinating as we brought on more and more guests, and that's really the power of audio like it's all about this intimate conversation that you can't really get by reading articles sometimes can interject here because I think an interesting thing that you guys started doing is. I think Twitter was out at this point. Right. And you guys started broadcasting live on I think you stream or something. And this is that podcast. Never. Did. It was usually right. Yeah. And it was the Janke ass- setup that I because it was there was. Not nearly the infrastructure that we have today like I have now have virtual machines running into virtual machines. But it was actually tricky to get a Skype call going, and then broadcast both sides of Skype called on the internet. There was physical cabling involved. Like just that happen. Yeah. It's crazy. It's crazy. But yeah, so Peter we I think that's how we got your attention and won't point. Right. Like, we were who exactly you were talking to maybe like, the Keith's of doom or. Yeah. Someone and it got re tweeted into my feed note, I just clicked on. And I think I was in the room listening for good hour or something. Because those those episodes went on you. A lot of time. Okay. And I think you said something like slightly inaccurate or something. I don't know what it was. I wrote a message in the Shatt and immediately after the message Chad Davis like Peter Saretta. Yeah. Well, because slash film at the time was massive on dig which again was a community that was part of weird because Peter's handle is is big daddy MAC four thousand. The fact of day was are you Peter Saretta? I know that was. Frequented other chat rooms together. But yeah, it was Simon was like pretty big like like now there are many more film websites many of which are venture funded. You know what I'm saying? But at the time you were getting dig front-paged regularly your articles were getting read millions of times, you're building of all this SEO, juice, and so. Peter was one of the biggest film bloggers that I knew at the time. So for him to be in the chat room was like a huge deal. And I have to set the scene to write like, I'm on Twitter. I have you know, four hundred followers, right. And we're all like, hey, guys tonight. Tonight's the episode like tonight at eight PM, we're broadcasting APM tune in and literally like four people which I was so exciting. Oh my gosh. Four people are here, you know. And but it just trying to like convey like it was a very different world back. Then were not everyone was connected. This is pre iphone, right? There was at least tens of dozens and the. After while it took a while to get there. But at the beginning, you know. I don't know if there's pre FM, but he's like right around when I phone one was launched two thousand seven right around. Right around right around. But not Martha. Yeah. Good. The idea of podcasting. The idea of getting podcasts out there apple didn't fully support it for a little while within IT and everything..

"The latest film and TV news the slash film editor in chief Peter Saretta joining me to this podcast, slush home senior writer, then Pearson, hey, what's going on and writer? Why trend? Billy happy one. So Benue asked what's going on in the answer is nothing. Like the news has been like last week. It was a watt going on this week. It's next to nothing. Oh, before we get into the news, actually, I did want to read a quick listener Email or tweet the other day. I wondered why there were so many baseball movies in the early nineteen. Ninety s and a listener named rob, gee, wrote in basically explaining that MLB rented them out in the office, the rented out there, stadiums in the off season because in nineteen Ninety-three they had a strike and without games, they use the stadiums revenue in nineteen Ninety-four from Hollywood, so that that is why we got so many baseball movies in the early nineteen nineties according to rub. Gee, I've not obviously check this information. It was just because Kevin Costner was hugely famous in the nineties so that that could be as well. I mean, it could be a combination of things, but I do know that the strike did happen, and it does seem to correlate with a bunch of these movies being produced in ninety three ninety four. So anyways, I just thought it'd bring it up. I thought that was kind of interesting bullet. Let's jump into the news. Let's start off with a couple of updates from yesterday's show. I think I mentioned that we were talking about Marvel's TV series on Netflix, and we were kind of wondering what does Disney streaming service mean for the future of those shows? And we finally got a confirmation. I think a little bit at least some kind of clarification here from the net flicks heads, itchy, would we know the disease streaming service means nothing essentially to the net. Marble shows basically the Netflix chief content officer. Ted surround does confirm that net flicks plans to continue making their marvel shows for the foreseeable future. His exact quote in an interview with inverse was those shows are for us to cancel and receive for happy with it forming so far aside from the iron fist, they just canceled of course, but it seems. It was. Yeah, it's it's separate from anything that Disney or that marvel studios is doing on the cinematic side or even on the TV streaming side because we know that Disney is playing their own marvel shows with the low key and starlet which spin offs. So I think there's a report a little while ago that a about the goings on the Disney marvel corporate world right now, and that there would not be any new marvel shows at net flicks. They would all go to the streaming service, but Netflix, his current show such as daredevil, Jessica Jones, Lou caged punisher. And maybe defenders would go on to have second. Third, fourth, maybe even fifth season, so it doesn't seem to add. There's not a lot of clarity on whether they can make spin offs of these shows or whether these the only titles could continue making. But that seems to be the the contract with the there with the. Net Netflix smarter shows right now. I am pretty sure my assumptions correct that basically Netflix owns the rights to these characters for the time being as long as they can continue to still make the shows in probably any characters established in those universes. I, I, I don't think we'll see any offs on Disney streaming service from the Netflix shows. I think it's going to be almost like a Netflix marvel cinematic universe of sorts kind of off to the side..
