"Budget stakes. Nita will start in re number four bobby the desert code named after the two thousand eight turf, Sprint winner I believe we just kept turf sprint winner down the hill. I believe it was two thousand and eight five and a half wrongs. Maybe, it was oh seven, not sure five and a half furlongs. No more hill We feel the six. And it's unfortunate I wish they were still running down the hill, but now we get five and a half furlongs on them were conventional turf course, and there's plenty of speed as you may expect in this race number, one Phantom boss number five party town both the speed of the speed plane, and simply I think number. Four rookie mistake is better than this field. She's been in the money. All four tries on the senator turf course to. To wins two thirds. She's learned how to sit a little bit off the pace and come with a bit of a run. Six furlongs looked like it was a little too far for her last time out five and a half furlongs. I think it's a right between the eyes or hit. It's m right between the eyes and I think rookie mistake at five to two is a horse that I would single if I'm playing horizontal wagers. Bobby Newman, perhaps saying. She because the number two, she's so special on the boys. She beat them last time in an entry level allowance optional claimer where it appears. She was in for the tag. She'd runs through conditions. She was in for the tag. Nobody claimed her now. She's two to one morning line favorite. Boys in the desert coat. She is a perfect two for two at five and a half promos. Don't let the distance marker in the region form full you. They clump in the five furlongs in the five and a half. She's a perfect two for two at five and a half furlongs Peter. Miller That's landed the deuce to Philly against the boy she so special race four goes at the desert

Three Wins in 4 Years Is a Record

"James Good Morning. Good Morning Steve. Thanks for having me on hope your weekend. Well it did. It did and I thought I saved I wrote I write down as many selections. It's always tough for Breeders Cup because then the paper gets all gets a little a little sloppy and sure enough here. I'm looking now and yeah I do have it. Actually there we go there we go home. You were a Vino guy and and bricks and mortar and and then spun to run so yeah your share of winners Too Key around I thought was on higher power. Though I didn't have you know I got you written down for Dino. I took higher power stirred Flavian Pratt. What's up on them? I'll tell you play the Heidi wrote one favorite Donna Duluth below she. The brewers Juke juvenile given up Phillies runner-up but he had a win. had four seconds and fourth earners. I thought that was a really a great performance by him and You know he has the Kentucky Derby win on his resume junkies like have that really just A good showcase for an upcoming star in our rank agreed and and I tweeted on Sunday. I've discussed this a couple of times this week. His record is stunning. And he's got people would say. Oh He's only got three wins. WHOA WHOA three wins? Thirty eight mounts and this is only his fourth year as fourth year riding his sixteen seventeen eighteen nineteen at-bats. Ah But another fourteen in the money finishes and then a handful of fourths and fifths I mean the percentage is frightening. I mean considering considering the level of competition really outstanding and he gives he gives every virtually every horse. If he's got horse to work with he gives them a chance. It's definitely and you know I mean I think Santa Anita and hosted the Breeders Cup eight times previously and and and he was writing a lot of california-based debased horses and one of my takeaways was definitely that this this year's Breeders Cup with completely unlike any out in California before I mean just uh-huh it just. It really started on Friday where the first four winners had all raised it Aqueduct Belmont and by the end of it I'm you know I'm looking at it it it. If you'd looked at the charts that Saturday at at Saratoga you wouldn't be surprised to see our ad or ts in four races Castellano and Rosario win into each and then Jose or ts Manny Frank Ricardo Santana All winner races well and Joe Bravo and that's what happened. They took twelve to fourteen races and and all twelve of those horses that race in New York this year now very strong on that on that front and ah not to say that Just had the conversation with Nick. Lock about the euro's and there were there were solid efforts and solid board hits in addition to Iridescence win but The you know the and there were solid performances from west coast sources to bell. Athena's Bella Fina. At under under certain circumstances dances might have won. The united almost looked like a winner hundred yards from the wire There were there were plenty of of solid performances from every region In some cases. Look at Vino. Vino having been into California. I think counselor a lot. You fold in folding would ask. Did you know getting there early with Matali Actually Navarro to I mean in Navarro got there early with a chance. A Lot A lot of times the a Lotta Times. The juvenile turf sprang can be like locally based sources can do all your top two in that race were both based in California with Peter Miller and you the one hundred and thirty five bucks. That's right that's right. That's right his second his second in the race in three years. I'm just looking at the list to spun to run from Philadelphia. So you get you get a a regional kind of a B.. Track player are sharing sharing holiday for new. New York's thunder run actually ran in a mate. Nice at act backer. And the winner but I mean the parks and mom Sharing base at Far Hills at far hell and Maryland bred. That's a couple of times Toga. Yeah yeah everybody everybody got their Lixin. Actually when you when you kind of go through this And I'll just say I I came away. I mean granted. I thought the four big stars coming into enforces with the serious horsey. Our aspirations Bricks Mourner Corner Sister Charlie and Matola two of the four one I think it really does come down horse a year two bricks and mortar and Matola Louis. But I'm giving the edge bricks mortar. I thought it was fantastic campaign. He had been a mile or previously. Before you know getting hurt and undergoing that surgery and I like the fact that Brad Cox I mean Brown ran him. You know he never ran he. Random and six different courses six different states. You went from Florida to Louisiana to Kentucky Hockey to New York to Illinois and the California To win a mile and a half for the first time in his career so to me. He's a deserving of the year well and and driving home the point about the mile and a half for people that because they always beat all the same types and didn't stretch himself then no he did and and you know the there was even people that were incredulous about him going the mile and a half so you know that that score extra points Without a doubt yeah definitely and you know to me One of the Mike Smith that made the point After a couple Oh. He ran second on a pair of privet favorites midnight zoo in Omaha Beach. And he's made the point that he'd right like those races back because it was hard to 'cause over that track track but to me it was more so that those horses were caned on the rail going into the first turn. Blue Prize was tenth early. You know tolley Holy Arosa could be five or six minutes off the pace. But they're jocks really at. That did a great job keeping them in the clear and I really thought midnight. These to you You know continue just to be in traffic through into the far turn. And when she got out she finished great as a case I mean they the great job on on TV and other highlighting it where I think of a blueprint. It's got the jump on her because of the trip the greed and it and it it also. It should be noted for people that are you know insisting that the track nobody could close well. WHOA that's not true? which is simply me? Just look at the chart for the distaff. What do you mean nobody could close at that? Just you know Omaha. Beach closed closed In in as well came from often and others whitmore made up. I mean it wasn't going to get to the winners and the the exact pair But he closed Idiom really had down below chicken that juvenile fillies and that's when the track was absolutely at its worst deepest pissed most impossible right based on based on the figure and in fact. It's funny because yesterday. Paul Matisse was talking about how difficult Friday was to make figures and then it was echoed by Jerry Brown on His On his experts board board. Somebody brought up. Paul's conversation and Jerry also echoed that the way the track changed from the you know the middle part of the day to by the time even the the juvenile boys ran so typically you would if the juvenile of the males run more than two seconds faster than the phillies. You'll get say their way better than the nose Philly but I do think it was. It was a track getting off faster later. And I. I'm I'm not down on British idiom or Donna Boise at all even though that right they came home. I think they should be still terrific runners. And you know it's it's hard to gauge coming out of the juvenile being real adobe guy Exactly what that means going forward so into court definitely Nice Horse Court Vision You know hasn't isn't had much success at Stud but he's bread You know fire. Classic types with that pedigree of his female family has a lot of stamina influences. It just doesn't have much class. You won't find any stakes winners really in that immediate female family well your final the final takeaways. My final take away so I just you know I you know I was. I thought you know it was a tragic end McGowan crew. I mean it was just a Really hurt to see that happy at the very end After a thirteen of the Breeders Cup races have that happened in the ashtray and and racing. Definitely I think has some issues and concerns going forward. the people in the industry maybe do a better job messaging but I still remain. Optimistic is the horserace fan about the future and I was. I came away like in the Breeders Cup. I thought there was some great performances and Looking for work once again the next year very good well. We're looking forward to the action this weekend give us some thoughts about Churchill had terrific card even today yesterday and Wednesday were good and of course the Commonwealth on Saturday the feature the Grade Three Mile and a sixteenth. The three year olds on the grass. It is an absolute war. Some thoughts about what's been going on while everybody was paying attention to Breeders Cup and and we got to look forward to this weekend. Yeah they had three stakes last week and In the MEA mischief flatmate go for the sale and and look good. She loves Churchill Downs Multiple Grade. One winner there in the Divine Queen got off to bad start. Art Never Fire in the In Saturday stakes chill Lewke and Sally's Kirwin breakers Swin She tried the Indiana Oaks folks earlier. This year didn't run good for Dale Romans. But she had one or last two allowance races by like about fifteen lenz combined and ran a rug. Good Rice debris greet Brian Cox's

The fall of the Berlin Wall

"So as years ago this Saturday a wall slicing through the heart of Berlin and separating the Soviet controlled east from the British American American and French secured West Foul after twenty eight years. The Iron Curtain had been breached. Thousands of East Germans came across the border. Today perhaps more than one hundred thousand so many that border police lost count and at every border crossing the thousands of West Germans there to say welcome off the second mode will the Potsdam agreement divided control and reconstruction of Germany between the victorious allies and with the British and Americans not willing to hand full control of the capital over to the Soviets the city was similarly a divided but with Berlin residing in the east the agreement men that a Western en clave was born and the west of the city became a potential escape route for eastern defectors east. Germany was losing its best and brightest and flows in charge. Something had to be. He done so in the early hours of the thirteenth of August nineteen sixty one barrier began to be enforced. This story has all the hallmarks of a political story. Still Alive and kicking today at its heart. The Berlin Wall was an immigration issue orbit one of keeping citizens in rather than out we used to be on together's then about twelve thousand years ago. We began to stopping together. As and at that point when static everything everything you have is precious to. You is also static. If you are feeling concerned that somebody else might covet your goods at that point you will defend them and building. Wolves will be part of that. And that's where the wool building started about twelve thousand years ago. It was no point until them. And before that and it has been throughout history whether it's the walls of troy the walls of Jericho Constantinople etc etc and most walls barriers and fences are physical manifestations stations of something much deeper which is the concept of us and then which was true in the time of the Great Wall of China one side barbarians the other side civilization and it's true now of trump's wall they are all these manifestations of division. That's the author author journalist Him Marshall who quite literally wrote the book on walls divided. Why we're living in an age of walls? Chronicles the thousands of miles of fences senses and barriers in our world and how they affect the political landscape too. So how did this particular wall come about the Berlin Wall and the subsequent fence which then fenced off East Germany from West Germany is actually probably a one off in the this will is actually a prison wall to keep people in so they count escape. What is most wolves That we don't want that law over. They're coming over the will to us so it is different in that respect as you get to the late. Nineteen fifty s Germany was divided into zones as one of the losers of the second world. War The problem was that the American can Marshall Plan was already kicking in and the western areas. We're doing much better economically. And so of course people in the Russian sectors sectors of East Berlin voting with their feet and in the years running up to when it was built a couple of million East Germans thought look the standard of life is much better over there and they started moving now. That is a direct challenge to the Russians to the Soviet Union and to the idea of communism because because if it is a physical manifestation is. That's working better for me I'm going that suggests something about your system. So they could not put up with his hemorrhaging. Both at an economical level. All of the workforce but probably more importantly for the Soviet Union and its populations. They can't put up with that because it's a challenge to their concept that our always life is the better way of life for everybody and people supported and so over night one night when the wall and the flow of people was cutoff immediately. I've been in both when the wall existed. But also he hears later and what struck me in the years. I've been since as I find it quite hard to imagine where wasn't people so this is where the war was. This river was a place where people use to try and swim across this dividing line. How complicated indicate it was it to divide a city when you think of our city London how you ever run a fence across the middle of it that would be effective? Well the Russians and East Germans had the advantage of not being directly answerable to their the peoples living there and there were the sectors as you know there was the French control sector British American and there was the Russian control sector so as they had control over that sector and the Americans. The British couldn't say no you can't put at a brick on top of another brick there. They simply walled off their sector unless said they did he overnight. They brought huge concrete slabs in and other things things fencing and they did it overnight but it wasn't politically difficult insofar as the other occupying power bill and didn't have a say in it so obviously go with the contours of the sector. They occupied and that was East Berlin. I mean if it'd been southbound South Bill would now be that buzzword that we have in politics not East Berlin just geographically. That's how far they got the sector that they took for centuries raise walls have been built to keep out invading armies but this was the first wall in all recorded history to keep an entire country from fleeing fleeing into West Berlin is three and a half million before the war was erected if the gods were there guns unsuccessful in keeping people from fleeing that there's the barbed wire if they crossed that that was the wall they reached the top. There was the broken glass and with that a city was divided. Millions of Berlin citizens were now defined by their street address. Peter Miller what is a journalist in East Berlin and the author of nine thousand nine hundred nine Berlin Wall my part in his downfall. Peter told us how he ended up with quite peculiar assignment. I immediately joined Reuters news agency London after finishing university and they sent me straight away after working as a trainee. They sent me to Brussels when I came back to London later about six months and then they say well how up in so it's my job. It's okay I don't Germany level moral and they said well nothing much happens at least seventy days. I'd say a couple of minutes but anyway they put me in there because they'd has the office since easterly separated in nineteen forty nine and a want to give it up because no other non German news agency had enough us on eastern side. The rule. So I I've lived in Paris and lived in Brussels. I thought it was just too good enough for two minutes and slightly disconcerted. I went there and discovered the billion Elian accents and started to pick it up and at the same time had to world. The when I was about to bury I hugged together would be East Germany. which was shook but I ended up there and I found probably one of the exciting places I'd ever be and so there I found myself going through checkpoint quite chilly and finding of flats it Roy says head for study use it was quite doubting? Tell me what was life. Like for a a journalist working in eastbound at the time did you have a sense that you are being watched by the infamous stars e the secret police. It's there's two sides to that question. was that ever since the Russians have done these German Roy shooting in Nineteen fifty-six and he just really accepted it was nothing we could do. Getting cross the Woolworth always dangerous restatements. Who tried to many had been shots and really very so nothing happening city except funding the old dissident who is willing to speak out yes? He took that for granted. Then only after the wolf find became done. We discovered that they started the headed. Twenty nine microphones in the FLACCO. Black I live in which was expected to be a little bit. Quite that many life for foreign journalists in East Berlin was clearly a well. Mona set one for many many in these Ovo life did go on. They wanted to escape and they took risks with their lives and hopes of making it to the West. I am what was seen as freedom.

"The John White Theme Good Morning Good Morning Steve What that song reminds me that after the holiday week of racing insane the need the last two yesterday one of the things I have to do today is change order boxes so it we did have holiday raising I really haven't talked much about yesterday of course the colon for McLaughlin and the Knickerbocker I needed did not have steak action but on Saturday and the staff the CAL distaff just grazed me Nick Alexander there is again can't say no and Giovanni Franko for Phil D'Amato and then Likud won the Nokia on Sunday Peter Miller do but really I think honestly the most important performance of the weekend it's Anthony's gotta be honore p very impressed of wind and of course anytime I see on spring of Hollywood story I immediately think Hollywood story in the U. R. and looks like Hollywood story multiple grade one winner has produced a very nice two year old here orig- alling by honor code a grandson of Eight the and the and boy you know I was extremely impressed with that debuted run sprinting boy you could just really see the tip of the iceberg there and they took their time with him didn't rush him back off and stretched out which it looked like was is GonNa be something that he would really like and I was really impressed by the fact that in his debut he was so far back early this time he came out of that gate and came out very nicely very professionally really and it looked heading into that clubhouse turn Smith really would've preferred not to even beyond the lead but he couldn't help but that honor ap just wasn't like he was dragging in there or anything but Smith wasn't going to restrain them to take after lead and for him to come home as nicely as he did I mean he just drew off so beautifully in the lane and gets a ninety one so he goes from a seventy-seven debut to a ninety one Steve Anderson and the racing form does such a good job Reporting that I once did here in southern California for the D. R. F. He pointed out that that was the fastest time twelve racers at the meeting one mile on the main track so far as ours the Rod Time One thirty seven point ninety four so you had mentioned text immediately after the race you thought would the Los Alamos dirty make cents Steve Anderson also reported that that that is exactly a race that they are contemplating for honor AP and they did say no Breeders Cup for AP so they are thinking of the Los Alameda teary just seemed to fit wonderfully from a timing standpoint and they're racist really been so good through the years as a springboard into three year old campaign so it looks like really bright future here for trainer John Sheriff as one of the best trainers I've ever been around and it looks like he's going to be really primed on the Derby trail here with honor. AP Well we talked last week to John and I I've actually I'm kind of glad that we connected weeks after my initial I think it was in September at the end the Dell Mark I reached out to John a couple of times and we just didn't connect and and so then then that morning last week these he responded he said sorry okay all right if you insist and who is tremendous and he's he's you know it's funny there's there's there's so many of the horsemen visits that always seem to resonate and John's a on that front shug how about Barclay tag last week too me Barkley I thought was really informative and insightful ban that was just fantastic and another you know to me positive sign coming away from this Andre p performance you know that was pretty highly regarded race and terms of prospects there's magician finished second for Richard Mandella and you look at it and say well yeah he got his clock cleaned getting beat by a little over five lengths batismal suggestion was over ten lengths in front of the third place finisher night race and as I say it was not considered a week race going into it so it's just further evidence Inste- to me that what we very well are dealing with here with this honor Api just he he's he's the kind the two year old to me that it's just so exciting yeah now this is what this is what we're after a you know once the summer and they start to they start to parade through we get to this juncture and it starts to get you know starts to get interesting we from standpoint John I I one other thing I think I I'll slip any or as I look at yesterday's results the the natural the hat trick for Doug O.`Neil yesterday the fifth sixth and seventh race and for those that heard me last week I think on Friday I'll just keep reiterating that Doug O'Neil deserves the absolute two hundred percent support and appreciation of the industry a he more than any one individual from a from within the industry has been leading this you know these these proactive don't WanNa call them protests so much as considerations and rallies before big days at at del Mar and at Santa Anita and With the help of Oscar dilatory I I cannot congratulate and and voice enough support for what got is is doing and so for him to be rewarded On the Karma Front as as hammer famously refers uh-huh King and the Good Karma swinging around the Doug Right now also got a mention it looks like a step forward it a for a three year old Samantha Segel's Quality Road Philly that was bred by Martha Mohammed that's Road Ranger looking for sure in that race and you mentioned neil you know he's always been such a terrific ambassador for our game honestly you know you think of the controversy that was involved back in the day without having another in he handled all that I thought extremely well heading to the Belmont and Gee what a disappoint many and I really think I'll have another I had a fee after the Kentucky Derby I bet on him to win the Belmont stakes in a proposition in Vegas where they say will there be a triple crown winner yes or no and this was before the preakness but it was after the Derby and he was such a low lightly regarded horse he in fact he of course wasn't even the favourite in the preakness boaty meister was and then headed to the Belmont was the most lying favorite union rags who won the race but considering the final time and so forth I just really feel if I'll have another had had his chance if he would have won the Belmont but well never know that but like I say such a disappointment and both Doug O'Neill and already handled that with such class and You know I remember being up at Emerald downs in the early two thousands for the lawmakers Mile Pacific Northwest West major race and I was there to do the the Fox North West Telecast along with Joe with the and and others and I remember that Doug O'Neill was sending up a horse from southern California for the race by the name of Scott Hi Jack had actually he won the race broke the track record and Doug O'Neill actually gave me the two French shoes that skyjacked war in that race and but I remember the people at Emerald the in the publicity department especially saying do you know this Doug O'Neill from southern California said well yes of course I do they said what kind of guy is he I said believe me by the time he leaves here are you everyone here at Emerald will love this guy

"You know i made reference earlier that he's not even the morning line favorite in this race and i said hey how do you disrespect the two-time breeders cup turf sprint winter making him third choice on the morning line. Do you ever go into a race thinking. Hey you know what guys guys you're not gonna. Make us the favorite. We're gonna show you how good we really. Are you know they look. They didn't respect him first to breeders cups. He won so i you know no. That's the least of my worries but <hes> <hes> no. You know it's it's <hes> i kind of laugh at that stuff. What are the the the things that you remember about. Those two breeders cup wins p well. I mean just the <hes> personally. Just you know complete euphoria of situation for me. <hes> you know they were two different different. Situations the first one being at del mar lar- you know in my hometown and and <hes> you know running one two was just incredible and then you know the second one to repeat it. <hes> you know in such a dramatic fashion with a great horse like world of trouble and <hes> <hes> have my boys always with me was equally as amazing so just just doors is just give me the right of life and <hes> you know i owe him everything and heals me nothing yet. Obviously the ultimate goal would be another trip to the breeders cup turf sprint this year this this afternoon's race is a win in your in. I mean he's going to he's going to qualify to be in the race anyway but <hes> to have that in your corner if he can win that race at kentucky lucky downs. How important is it to have that that winning. You're in locked in in your corner. I mean obviously that's a a big bonus. <hes> <hes> looks good. Guys looks good. Stay like that forty nine. <hes> you know i it's obviously not the the main reason we're running <hes> but you know i it's it's a it's a big bonus. <hes> perfect perfect <hes> too big bonus to have the winning you're in and we'd love to have it but <hes> you know the main thing is to try and get him into the breeders cup in good shape and <hes> you know trying <hes> three p. trainer repeat miller joining me here on h. R. n. is you can hear. He has horses training right now and he's kind of giving you a look behind. The curtain is to what makes him so good as he does his this job every morning. That's what it sounds like for trainer pete miller day in and day out before. I let you go very quickly. Wanna look back on that del mar futurity so you run one to nuxie gets the victory big upset in there. Tell me about that race in those horses. You know that was <hes> you know another. <hes> <hes> really a dream come true <hes> <hes> both horses. Were doing really well and you know i again. Dan felt like we were we were being underplayed and overlooked and <hes> you know obviously obviously there was a mishap in the race but i you know honestly. I don't think it would have mattered. I think i think was the best choice that day. No matter who lined up and <hes> you know i think he proved it and wrecking crews very good. Horses is blood is is energy levels not right not quite where i wanted. I think he's a better horse than he's shown you know and he's a grade one place to place so you know <hes>. I think he's kinda scary if we can get him <hes> really hitting on all cylinders. I think he can be any kind of horse. <hes> knock. He's just a really solid hard. Knock doc in hard trying very professional young horse and <hes> you know i'm excited <hes> you know to run them in the front runner and <hes> and hopefully the breeders cup. Were you shocked to see him. At thirty five to one i was i was i mean here's a horse just one by ten and a half lengths with a big buyer and they were just discounting winging. Look i get it. You know bob on fifteen. You know futurity. You know he's gonna get all the action and you know that's fine..

He has it all and you pick this spot for <hes> for his next race this yes <hes> run happy. Turf sprint kentucky downs six furlongs on that somewhat undulating turf course. Why was this the right spot for him. Peter well <hes> there were a few reasons timing was good and <hes> the person was big so <hes> you know i think this is besides the breeders cup up <hes> plenty fast guys sorry to interrupt you but i'm i'm kinda work in a bunch of horses today and so you'll you'll hear me working here in the background <hes> but <hes> anyhow <hes> twenty four just stay like that twenty four but he <hes> the timing was good and and the biggest <hes> turf sprint personalize. "Now what what's the targets for surrender now and painting corners? Good question. You know, we'll have to find something that Santa Anita down the hill. I think there's a wishing well stakes coming up we could run one or the other and that race, but I've also got billboard bay. She could run in that or she could go to the mile race in hook the silica. So we we've got some options where you in considering you know, perhaps perhaps belvoir bay possibly to the all clause. So you know, we got option and horses got back yesterday, and you know, their their training today. Going to circle back in a second to ROY h but I do wanna hit on a couple of results away from from Gulfstream, and you mentioned the hill and. All the different outstanding. Really? It's it's amazing. How many of these sprinters that that you're firing off Peter? What about the conquest sue NAMI on Sunday in the Clockers corner? He was something he really was in, you know, he's a horse to be reckoned with you know, as well. He he'd also be considered for the the all clause. He was super he was Finn landing. I was I was you know. Radio put back in a week, but his energy levels high. And and he he's very tough when he gets a wooden. He gets easy lead. And just a, you know, he's he's a he's a rock-solid or she's run three times this month. And I'm looking at them right now and he's rear and kicking. And you know, I think I might after run them again next week. Just kidding. Thanks for the clarification. Well, I do have to ask because it it is a little I haven't seen anything written. But I know some people have got to be watching calculator and just getting getting concerned that that really? Yeah. These not competitive. No. I think you know, I spoke to the owner yesterday. And you know, I told him we may have hit the end of the road e sound just I think he's figured out. He's gonna get fed whether he wins or loses and kind of lost that that desire that adds. So you know, we're going to put some feelers out. I think he could be a tremendous value in you know, he's he ran second to American pharaoh twice probably the only horse that ever did that in grade one. And if he had not had its foot issues, I think he could have been, you know, really just a top top fast horse. So I'm hoping someone recognizes the talent that he had in and gives them a chance. To be a stallion. Well, and he certainly was versatile, and he did a lot of different things. And he did it for an extended period. People. Probably forget, I mean, he's he's what great one place three four times. And you know. He actually was a victim of some bad luck. Frankly. Right. He ran at this abortion the wrong time. And yeah. Yeah. He ran into American Farrell, which is pretty tough forced to run into and without him. You know, I think he's he's probably champion two year old that year. And and you know, one, you know, long on the dirt short on the grass, you know. He did it all and and really just a one of the most talented horses I've ever had. So, you know, I just again, just, you know, looking to find him a nice home, hopefully where he can pass that ability and Cowan onto his his progeny. Right. He the race that that really is probably the the difference maker in in some people knocking on the door was the Carter, which he could have won. I mean that that was that's the look back. That could have been his great one right there. When. Louis with a couple of bad beats away from from really, you know, being the horse, and you know is foot problem that that came up Breeders Cup morning. Yeah. You know, he's just one of those horses that. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong. And you know, like, I say, I'm hoping to find a nice nice. Nice home seven hundred thousand earnings twenty-six starts five wins. And kept kept the best the company talking about Cal. Great horse, and you know, he sound and we're just hoping like you said find him a stout in career..

"But I don't I don't either it's same owner. You know, Rockingham owns the majority of X Y jet, and of course, ROY eight. So, you know, it'll be interesting. You know, we could send another horse over there as well. Got a couple other good sprinters that you know, we wanna make sure there's an on his pace in front of ROY h and, but it's exciting. And then stormy liberal, you know, we were really looking forward to run into against world travel Saturday, but unfortunately, it didn't work out and the. Was there was there a discussion? Did you get a chance to? To talk at all to Billy badge it about or Tim about having those two races taken off. No. And that that's really where my problem is the manner in which it was done. You know, they made the call thirty seven in the morning six seven hours in front of the races. And there was no rain, the rain didn't actually come and till all about the thirty or so which was an hour after the ladies sprints. I sprint in. And it was a unilateral decision. They never called. They never said. Hey, we got an issue in. That's what really bothered me too me too. So kind of a lack of respect for the horses might team. The owners everyone involved, I think a phone call at the very least would have been would have been nice. Well, you course, in addition to storm. Liberal and everybody was looking forward to the the Breeders Cup rematch between him and world trouble. We should talk about the two Phillies because they were they were going to be an interesting presence in that lady's turf spray. They were they were doing great. And I think you know, we had a great chance win both those races. And you know, we spent a lot of money fifteen thousand dollars the fly out there owners flew out, and you know, a lot of expenses and a lot of time and effort in you know, we can we can argue whether the race should or shouldn't been come on the grass, I believe that shouldn't. But you know, that's an argument we can make the manner in which it was done again. It's water under the bridge. Hopefully in the future, you know, the they they handle it a little bit better. What do you do?.

"We're back at the races. Let this play a little bit. Unbelievable. Cover of torn. This is a twenty one year old kid from the UK that. I don't know. Maybe the despair be is at our next Adele because of course, we did bring a doubt North America. I I will stand by the fact that that this show played Adele before anybody at hurt her. This name is James they call them James T W his last name is hyphenated. But James t w with the. Complied. Even though it sounds the same. It's still fresh version of torn and Peter Miller standing by and Peter Ecorse. Peter was probably torn a little bit between between Thursday and Saturday Thursday night. The eclipse awards takes home to we knew that ROY h was winning stormy liberal creates a new a new era as a turf sprinter win stir force of the year. But then on Saturday things were a little bit the little bit thrown into a cocktail as they say, Peter, congratulations. But I'm sorry things went awry for Saturday. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate it. You know, and we'll save that portion. Let's first talk about those good stuff for. Yes. Yes. Then we'll close over Saturday. You know, the ROY h you knew everybody at the table new and that was fine. But the turf situation was really fascinating and the public you got to acknowledge that the horse playing and the fan base out there. There was a groundswell of support for stormy liberal. Absolutely. And without the without that, you know, the worst players, and the, you know, the voters thinking outside the box a little bit. There's a way he wins. I think there's ever been a terp sprinter ever one terp force of the year. I I'm not sure that there's been a a tear force winter that that's run less than a mile that that's been a winner. Right. Exactly. So now, it was a great honor. And it was a great night, you know, kudos to the eclipse awards and stran- IQ group for a really great night. They they shortened up the ceremony by by good, our baby more, and it was it was much better this year than last year. Well, you know, the the question is now, I suppose can can the horse's like stormy liberal and ROY HP better yet again going into this year, and ROY h seems to be starting off obviously on on the right foot. We'll talk about the campaigns in a minute. But I got to knowledge I don't know if it got back to you Jay Primin really stressed on Friday after the awards eat a what what a credit the needed to be acknowledged for the team behind the horses, and you know with the back back Breeders Cup wins. That portion you would think would be evident. But I really thought that the point was well made about David Berndsen, and and our Tunisians and Rockingham really should be thanked acknowledged. Or you know, what that is accomplished? One hundred percent, I agree with you a hundred percent, and I try to unfortunately, you know, I think the stormy liberal acceptance was somehow cut off or a commercial of probably some fancy new hard-boiled egg cooker or something that sort on TV. But. How story but. Yeah. No. You know, so many people behind you know, my my help my team. My my miss my bet the owners the riders it's just it's too many people to name, you know, I'm the one that gets credit, but they're the ones that do the work. Well, I you now do have a unique scenario bringing stormy liberal back and ROY h already with that just eye-popping effort public workout last week that anybody that saw the palace Verdes just had to be stunned talk about the year of coming for the two champs. Yeah. It's exciting. You know, ROY was looked better than ever. And so we're really excited about going to do by. And we had some, you know, some bad luck last year and Dubai the horse got left at the gate and didn't really run as Ray, I think I didn't have them where he needed to be. But hopefully with that experience under our bell, and you know, pocket Lopez on him. I think you're gonna see a different horses here in Dubai. Well, of course mind your biscuits out of the picture. So that and I don't I don't know what the status is with X Y jet if he's going over or not..

And you know, they got a, and that's what said to he's got to go out and do it. And let's get him on a faster Dr. Yeah. I I think one of the nice things things about him is since John owns them. And he's not possible than a quick the first quarter Gulfstream but not why race new very fast race. And he won by what fourteen likes? Who knows? I mean. Jeez. Is that gonna dry tracks? The the other courses heading towards the triple crown trail in trouble. But we'll see see what can you say that was that was some performance on way from from. I would say that. In all likelihood, he's an extraordinarily talented horse on. It means the derby horse. There's two ways separate so many people. Talking jury Turbie my answer would be I don't know if he's a horse in the derby. But a very good worse. You just need to see what he can doesn't dry track. You know? But. Was that was some performance? Now, and and Bill Maher himself taking a wait and see let's as. That's his his his MO threes. The I don't. Exact same some some things, you know, exactly. You know, basically the same thing. Obviously, they I'm sure they had high hopes for them. And apparently the working well in Saratoga before you on the sidelines, but when wet track nobody's looking wet track. Those kind of tracks can be deceptive. Look in the debut of loose equality. Right. It's a very similar one the wet track. Belmont, right? And you got a hundred to buyer mile sixteenth winning while five hundred you also have to be an extremely good horse. Right. You know, if you look at the records of forces that have these high by or debut impressive wins. The ones that state sound. Most of them turned out to be very good worse. That's not random. It's not some sort of operational thing. This is a good horse where he ends up showing where he's gonna worse remains to be seen. Very fair. I mean, that's that. And that's the the reasonable approach to take. And I pointed out this morning. The fact on that topic. There was a horse that ran. In the Sugar Bowl. And then again in the smarty Jones, this super Steed that had had a, you know, as a two year old the big fig Churchill eighty seven buyer and broke his maiden allowance, and there was a lot. There was some buzz and excitement and now in four career starts the only good performance. You know, the only major performance was the the wet track. And these been a disappointment subsequently in.

"Opportunity to maybe go toward Qinglin, the mild of makers, ask Chad. I'm sure you know, he's considering any of those big races for them between that but raise on derby day. Figure out. What's best? I'm sure as gold be Manhattan knowing. So he's one of those races race before. He's a nice addition to to that division landscape. That's for sure question. Questioning was step terrible year for that division last year. Peter Peter Miller is going to join me next then and I guess the the the stormy liberal as as turf champion. The more. I thought about it. I thought all right. I guess I it it was such a weird dynamic. I wasn't. I wasn't voting for very maple. Yeah. Yeah. The the main track has some thoughts about what we saw with the, and, you know, granted the the day and the main track was was swampy and. Very city of light. So yeah. Well, very good Orsi once and it was very impressive. Not you know. I'm sorry. I'm sorry retire love seen in this year. I mean, it's probably probably would have been the best choice and training. I thought he was going to the race you rent better when the vile exhilarated winning the classic with all due respect. It'd be accelerate going about eighth at Oaklawn. One bad race was Tamala quarter where was the mile quarter and hot. Doc accelerate. But I don't think he was surprised that he won the race want. See mufflers to be going at least to me. Then it was going to was going to have a tactical edge to once, you know, the way the moving moving, and you know, in pattern grass over early pace was pretty quick. So, yeah, I, you know, I don't think there's a lot. I don't have a lot to say about the race. I mean, I think he's a good worse and much better. The field. Listen, it's the Don handicap and sensually, you know. When the sort of only purse around with they've done a good job of keeping some Morse's and training for one more race. And do some more racing before we talk about anything off the track the the weekend I had keirin yesterday. And we talked about on the destroyer. This was not obviously, not just in New York. But Karen wins down to Florida. Well, yeah, this was a good weekend for and I talked to Steve Asmussen and. Well for other for there. There's a few others. I didn't even get to one of his winters from the weekend. But. This was a good weekend for the Philly and mayor sprint landscape. There were some good efforts. It looks like that division. Maybe. Okay this year. Well, Well, okay. we'll see. He had a bunch of ninety buyers. I mean, at least. Today is a good. We'll thick. I mean, it's hard to you know. You know visits. And I I mean, I don't think this was as good as their prior race you in though, she won. But she was very much the track. Was that Friday Friday rail is dead. And that she were well Aaron bought finish third on her way. The more a better ride could have won that race, actually. Certainly can be three likes. Not not sure why you would die right onto a dad rail in the stretch. But yeah, no destroyer. We'll see, you know, see if she can keep it together because she has been good or two starts. Mr. good Saturday. So Mr. buff was very good gets a one oh one buyer, and I mentioned as you were coming onto good weekend for John Kimmel who had Mr. Toby's. Pacific Gail run. "Ports presents. Razors with Steve big. Raising and becoming interviews. This is Steve. We're back. Our two on this Tuesday early joins us from the New York Racing Association. Good morning. What's gone just just talked to Steve aspirin, which is always challenging because there's you know, there's was Sunland and Oaklawn at fair grounds at it. I never even got the. Never even got the team Toby sheets at some of the New York horses Toby on I should have Toby on haven't had Toby ages on that's a good. That's absolutely should probably every morning gets up and says to himself maybe hasn't called me. You know, I think a lot of people begin their day that way. So much hope and so much promise. And then noon rolls around all never came. The black and white world again. Well, Tina actually Tina Tina said to me too. She hasn't. She hasn't heard from me in ages. Your wife. Probably flourishing. Exactly, exactly. And speaking of flourishing, Toby, I just think of when I brought maybe last fall, I brought up a horse or to from New York with Steve. And and he started a laugh because you know, Toby sheets has has partnered up with a lot of the clients and their breeding, you know, some New York breads and really. Occasionally. Yeah. Yeah owner. Yeah. It's very cool. Yeah. Operation York for a long time long time. Haynes field. Haynes field was his that was his crowning achievement as the big job and other great job. I think the listen to you could go down the hierarchy chart, it's the people in the stable that make the stable work. You know, whether it's the sister trainers or anybody grooms pot walkers exercise writers, exercise writers are probably they're probably sort of the unsung heroes of a lot of stables. True. You know that stroz these are the people were getting ready in the morning on the race track. I would have to think they would make a difference. Maybe not I would think they do know, there's no doubt. And you know, while we while we I suppose defer very often to the jocks and the. When the jocks come into play. And and, you know, the final preparations sometimes, but. There's there's countless they think about Baffert's operation and Dana Barnes, and all the, you know, closely associated Dana has been with with so many. She's just a. Morning writer, but traveled speaks very highly of his exercise riders. Sure what you mean when allowed to thank them in settings. He probably wasn't the only one that was cut off. The. Talking about Thursday, and you know, Chad Chad was going through that the he wanted to make sure that everybody was acknowledged. And finally got around to, you know, the the family side of things. And that's when they said, oh, here's the music. But he got he got everybody thanked. They caught a feeder brand. I heard fortunate watch I missed that. I missed I missed the the brand presentation actually how horses. Thirty five years. Although he did have a B did have a break. He did. He was away for also huge player in the game for a long period of time back in the seventies and eighties. Sure the nineties now he's another big player in the game. I mean, I, you know, I don't know very well. But he's always seems like an extremely nice guy and thought it was an interview with him in the thoroughbred daily news. I wanna say sometime this fall late fall. It was really interesting. I thought. Really really interesting worth looking up. I'll pull it up. I'll find it. Very thoughtful about a lot of things racing are different things. Obviously the art world racing. I saw where I'm trying to think of who was one of one of my friends on on social media. They were little disappointed that Gulch didn't get as they were talking about as they were listing. Some of Peter's. Accomplishments not have him as one of his sources brab, right? He raised the dam so. Yeah. I mean. Yeah. Absolutely. Who else? Would you mention if not gold? I know it's it's a fair point was. Yeah. I mean. Saying you didn't. But who better than gold? We get way of, but he bought way, you know, midway through, you know, later career early successes in this country were all for Daniels. Stephen asia..

"Del mar, you can get expanded stakes, previews of many of the great stakes races all weekend, long coast to coast at video duck drroof.com or the daily racing form YouTube channel. This race, Mike, a win, and you're in for the Breeder's Cup, sprint, and it features last year's Breeder's, Cup, sprint winner. The very talented, ROY h, yeah. Does ROY h obviously together quite a campaign last year for Peter Miller on which have off with that big, Breeder's Cup, sprint, win. I think he's come back really well this year two guys. I mean, you know, it's it's just really getting started for him, but they made their early season goal that been race off for two million dollars in Dubai, and I actually ran, okay, we're gonna put the replay off. You're going gonna see that. He's never gonna really. Find a way to make his way to the lead in this race. But I like the way that he raised on. Of course, this was Dubai World Cup night. It felt like the rail was really the place to be this never got anywhere near the inside in this race actually, like you ran okay in here against a good field of horses back in the states. He's all side. I think they have a big second half of the year. I know he's a favorite in this race, but I didn't really want to bet against was in against to Tuffy in mind. Your biscuits x. y. jet in that raise little class drop even in this grade one field and it is a pretty salty grade one, Matt, your top selection in this race won the Bing Crosby last year. Got a lucky, get a little bit of an assist last year ransom. The moon did because we saw Dray falling dumped. Mike Smith floated ROY h about fifteen Pez wide. And that was the difference because France moons able shoot up the would kind of this. The reverse happened to Renton the moon to starts back in the Kona gold. We're gonna go back and look at that run right now. Situation where another Peter Miller horse actually floated ranson the moon quite wide off. The far turn loud Bobby Dhabi to shoot up the inside. And really, that was the. Difference maker. I kinda like what this has done so far here in two thousand eighteen annoys only race twice, but he ran well that day. Then they came back in the met mile distances just too far form and against better horses on a likelihood eighty two run terrible there to run. Fifth, I think this is what he wants to do and again, del mar, not a problem for him. I don't think chance the number eight Saint Joe bay. This is back class or who did really well off the John Sadler claim moves recently. Let's go back to that grade to San Carlos stakes was in against odds-on favourite American anthem and they threw it down from the start Saint Joe bay on the rail, American anthem on the outside. And despite being dismissed as a forty, two to one chance on the San Carlos Sancho bay gave American anthem. All he could handle American anthem is once again, going to be a much shorter price than Saint Joe may. I think Saint Joe bay could get the jump on American Anthony draws outside of that. I think he could be sitting off Merican anthem if American anthems a little sluggish coming out of the gate. Bob Baffert seven is better than the six. American anthem maybe Saint Joe bay if he can continue to call upon his back class concert prize at a little bit of a price in the been Crosby..

"Horses that just didn't necessarily make all that much sense even on paper in those first two weeks at del mar and it became sling you had to pay attention to i think at this point everybody's paying attention to him and it feels like he wins you know beginning of the middle of the me and ended me but are there any do you think that's that's correct is it right with these trainers to look for sort of mini streaks within the meat yeah you wanna see where you know whether pointing there they all have their horses on schedules and so if they're two year olds are running well then then there's other two year olds in the bar and that are on that same schedule that are probably ready then so keep an eye out for that one of the things that i'll say both about saratoga and del mar is that the workout report is extremely important when you're trying to identify which one of these firsttime starters or young horses is gonna run well or horses that that are coming in off a really long layoffs being pointed to the spot a lot of times those workout reports can give you some indications of what to expect from those horses same thing happens at at at saratoga that happens at del mar the tricky part is actually two people that you name to be honest cure mclaughlin and as well as peter miller sometimes train their horses at other locations that the workout report is not available in those horses can sometimes be sneaky so guilty of falling in love of the workout report and if i don't see the horses name in there and there's a bunch of other horses and there would be plus lurk outs i sometimes forget about the horses that are working at san louis ray or green sri or or wherever up in saratoga and another clue that you have to use i'm a big fan obviously these clock reports from showing on the screen now for those watching live where you can access them and i know j k for you and for me as well very hard to to look at these maiden races without them but don't forget that the tote board itself is going to offer a lot of clues especially when you see horses it's not just a question of okay that top pletcher horse is getting bet it must be live it's moore's it certainly very significant when his horses get back very much so in fact did he still i think one or two of the might a loss last year but there was a record going into last year i think we're nineteen of twenty of pleasures that had been bet to even money or shorter at one in a row or something but what's really interesting to me about using the tope board is when you're seeing horses yet bet down below where they quote unquote should be and what i use for that honestly is as simple as the morning line when you see you know maybe not the absolute first flash of of the tote board you wanna make sure there there's a d recent amount of money in the pool but early on in the bedding i will write down the odd on the toe board right next to in my diaw what the morning line is and you will see horses bet down it's it's it's the poor man's version of the clock report look i'm a big believer you're better off having the clock report there's so much other great information in there that you're going to be able to use not just today but the tomorrow and beyond about how these horses look who they're working with at cetera but as a basic data point there is signal in the horse was six to one in the morning line and he opens up at three and it's much more valuable when it's a trainer that doesn't have to get it you if it's a pleasure horse it's a bunch of course it could mean a lot of things if it's ian wilk source or tony detro even obviously excellent horsemen but you don't necessarily expect every two year old of there is a especially to be getting bet when they're getting bent it's significant and it pays to take notice and you can even use that idea of with if you see even a little money on a horse who's been training away from the eyes of clockers that's very significant so you know glock that.

"Peter miller walked by with his horse in behind him as the only other horse it could really win in its tyler bays tyler yell sending it petered peter says if we're not on the lead we can't win of interest in so i i i told us look the trader said it he's on the lead he can't win so he'll take all doubt out of the fact that we were wondering what are you gonna do he's going to break easily get to the good rail and he's gonna win and like and they didn't use any of it all all give to compliments and or or to nice things in one bit of constructive criticism on the show um i thought no i in is much as it pains me to give you a compliment j k i thought in your segments you you're excellent short to the point hulu the camera loved you it it it really i did enjoy at the hour the halfhour did go very quickly also say this i wouldn't get too hung up on judging anything about the show remembering how the horse players tv show how that evolved as time went on and there were like some weird things in early episodes and kinks that had to be worked out the by the time they got to midseason and beyond were much better by one piece of constructive criticism will offer i i d i did wish it was maybe a little more horse centric as opposed to the horses were a little bit like a pingpong balls in a in a machine generating a number and and i know it's hard can't really going to all those stories but i wonder if as the show goes on we could just get a little more horse centric commentary as posted number centred fair yeah you know i you know i think like a setting there there was an idea they they ran with i i think that that uh.
