Get down. Yes, sir. Back with you on the leader getting down here in the final hour programming at least live studio program. In 2020. That means we're out of here at noon. Baby Way have the Liberty Bowl after that. Which listen I'm going home and I'm watching ball games. I'm cracking open a few beers. I'm watching ballgames and damaged my looking forward to it. A beautiful day out in the Bay Area. I might do it outside. I might get the porch TV out, folks. 2020 has been a garbage year for a lot of reasons, but I will say this My porch TV has been a big plus, I got married. I got a dog. But porch TV really stands out as kind of the highlight of 2020. I had a TV that I had moved seven times. Was an old RC eight and I leave the Garcia exists anymore. It exists when the R C A dome was still a thing. Was a 7 20 p HD TV that I think I got for $100. When I lived in South Florida they used to have a store that was clearly run by the Cuban Mafia. We called it the fall off the back of a truck store. We're basically just things that were supposed to get the target didn't get there went to the store, and they sold them at a very steep discount. Technically, I might be confessing to criminal activity by buying stuff from that store. But, you know, plausible deniability and extraditions. Probably terrible to Florida. Bought this TV for about 100 bucks. I had no idea what to do with it. And then the pandemic..

"Yeah. Timeto get down with Peter. That's right. Peter Kurten Bok is in for Papa and line on KNBR 1045 and 6 80 v sports leader. Yes, sir. Back with you on these sports leader, do the curtain back with you until 2 p.m.. I will throw it to carry Crowley. Scott Reese, filling in for T K this afternoon. All right, it wouldn't be knbr today without talking to our good friend Jake Hutchinson of knbr dot com. He covers the 40 Niners there and I have contractually obligated to say does a bang up job much? How you doing, baby? The great lovely day outside just tend to the garden a little bit. Watch some film that cargo I'm sorry. Can we go over just your morning. So far, you tended to the garden and watched some film. What kind of a life are you leading my friend? Well, you know, there's a lot of weeds, you know to get timeto wintertime, you know, Clear stuff out, Get some potatoes planted. You know, prepared planting buddy? Planting potatoes. Here we go. There we go. You gotta go. A farmer. All right. I have no idea how to transition off of that. But we'll endeavor. Nevertheless, uh, listen, I wouldn't be surprised if the Niners roll over and week 17 after what they showed Against the Cardinals and week 16. It's almost as if I don't want them to play this next game because there's no way they're ending on a higher note than that. They already have trained Williams out. Our man table or pepper long snappers on the covert list, So I don't even know if they have a long snapper. Just in school is day to day. Who's gonna be playing left tackle Who's gonna be long snapping for this team? Right now, That's actually something I was thinking about is so when they had that issue with Carl Nelson earlier in the year, just in school was the emergency long staff boy so We don't know what the emergency long snapper is behind. Just in school, and more importantly, you look at left tackle. Hi. Trent Williams is obviously just the school behind him. Is Dan Brunskill. We don't know. There's there's Daniel Brunskill. But, uh, run is grass who is on the coded list. So you don't have a one for one center. Oh, boy. So maybe go with Tony Bergstrom, who is like 34 years old is a veteran. That's probably the play but still left tackle. Or you move McGlinchy over there. I don't think they want to move in country that they've always said they want to keep him at right tackle. Yeah, I can see why. So I would guess it's school can't go. It's it's Brunskill Left tackle. The only other tackle option they have is Guy named Isaiah Williams Williams to the practice squad. I think he actually started with Washington. So it would be my guess. Apropos of nothing if he were to replace trying Williams through a day. Um, yeah, It's a weird situation. I don't know who they're back up. Back up. Long, Shepherd, right, back up, back up. Back up. Long now I think it's me. I think I agreed to that role several weeks ago. Oh, man, I gotta get the Arizona way. What we call our our our podcast where we just talked about long snapping for 40 minutes, snapping it off. Like that. Yeah. Yeah, Going long going long. Snap it off. Jeez, Louise. What did you make of, um Kyle Shanahan's comments about Jimmy Garoppolo yesterday. It seemed to me like par for the course. But maybe you read into it differently. Nothing much. I mean, I think is much ado about nothing like people are always going to react to him, saying anything about Jimmy is this means this. This means that, um I think it's it's always been telling the way he's spoken about Jim. You know, he's always been like We can win with him, but he doesn't go into specifics about what he's so good at getting ready, right. He didn't say Jimmy has a lead on talent. He doesn't say Jimmy processes the game at a fantastic level, he says. You know, Jimmy takes more notes than anyone I've ever seen. And sometimes I gotta tell him to look up and watch the game. Yeah, he said. That is a joke. Not that funny. It's kind of kind of telling that, you know, it's It's like if he had Aaron Rodgers, you wouldn't be like yeah, we can win with Aaron. Um, you know, the money is not that bad. No. I feel like Aaron Rodgers, one of the greatest quarterback of all time, and you don't even need to use Aaron Rodgers, a poor example. But you can use if it was Ryan Tannehill, right. You know, he would have more to say about his talent, and that's not to say that. Kyle hates Jimmy. I don't think he does. I think he's more frustrated with the fact that he's not healthy and any can't really bail him out. You know, he was hoping that Jimmy would take a step forward this year. He wouldn't have to worry about it. That's not the case. And now you know he's getting asked about it, and it's hard to have a great answer. When you've had a quarterback who's missed almost half the time or the last three years. Will it be even easier for Kyle? If Jimmy had played and had regressed? At least you know what the hell's going on? At least you can see a trajectory with Jimmy Garoppolo. You're going in blind to next year if you stick with him. And that could be a very bad thing. Because the last time we saw him I don't care if it was the ankle injury or not, he wasn't good. He straight up wasn't good reason we're having this conversation is because he wasn't exactly you know, setting the world on fire when he was playing in 2020. He had one good half this year, and it was against the Jets on that's when he sustained the ankle injuries against the Cardinals very kind of fell apart at the end. It was just a weird one. Um, you know, you can say that's weak one. Whatever. He didn't look spectacular on Then, when he came back, they designed they won two games decisively. But that's because his average depth of target was Basically at the line of scrimmage. Hey, was not throwing the ball used. Traveling. It is during dumb passes everything short on when they did that a lot. You know, they did that against the Vikings in the divisional game, especially after you threw that interception. Um, you know, Colin's done that at times and he didn't trust you meet any point after the ankle injury on a lot of it was mental together was physical, and he couldn't Push the ball downfield, but he's never really been gifted at pushing the ball downfield. So you know, you look at it in cows scheming around him. And, you know, it wasn't like he came back in the 40. Niners were like, Oh, we're in this. It was he was rough. Kind of vibe. Did you get off of Kyle and the players after the game this year so far in media this week, there's only been one day of it. But a Lhasa I'm still asking you for a stands. As it pertained to this upcoming game. I was shocked at the amount of juice that they played with down the stretch. Once the season was over. I was shocked by it, especially on the defensive side. Is that juice? Still there? Have they decided? T Pack it in? What? What kind of vibes? Are you picking up? I think They're not going to pack it in, right, But you guys are missing you missing friend Williams. I yuk. Come on, Um, you know, like we can talk all day about like, how many guys can come in and replace. But like we see what happens when Trent Williams is not in, Oh, boy, that's ugly. That's really ugly Did the one thing is like George kiddos? That's in like that really does make a huge difference, but you know, it's It's basically like him. Kendrick, born and Richie James We seem like those guys have decent games..

"Down with Peter. That's right. Peter Kurten Bok is in for Papa and line on KNBR 1045 and 6 80 v Sports leader. Yes, sir. Back with you on these sports leader. Just a couple minutes here before we get to Dante Whitner. Hit me. I'll talk to him about culture in the NFL. Think he know a little bit something about that and how defense is played late in the season where it means nothing. But I got to get something off my chest with Robert. Solid If you don't hire this guy is your head coach. Crappy teams around the NFL. What the hell are you doing? What the hell are you doing? Fred Fred Warner said this and we have this sound. Fred Warner said this After Saturday's game, basically encapsulating what I've been saying for more than a year now, I'd say for about 18 months I've been pushing this Robert Sal is going to be a great NFL head coach. I'm willing to die on the hill. Willing die in hell. Here's what Here's Fred Warner of Very Sharp guy had to say about Robert Sell Best D. C in the league, man. Yeah. So much respect for that guy. He's just Such a smart mind. And on top of that, just knowing exactly what he wants exactly what he wants out of us. He makes it crystal clear for everyone. Black and white. We know exactly what what to do on every every given snap. No gray area. He doesn't. He doesn't do a lot, You know, Scheme wise, so we make sure we go out. We play fast, Play physical and we play smart ball. You know what girls who's out there? You see, we constantly have a new group out there. And if it's the DBS, or Or D line doesn't matter, You know, because we all have a standard that we uphold, regardless of the situation of whoever's out there, you know, so Love that guy. No, he's gonna be a great head coach. One day soon. We're gonna We got one more game toe. Put some good stuff on tape. Says it all. Says it all. I've long been an advocate of guys who have been special teams coach is in one way or another. Getting head coaching looks doesn't necessarily help what show judges doing currently. With the New York Giants, But John Harbaugh seems to be a pretty good coach. I'll take that win, though. I'm pretty sure that the tape came well after John Harbaugh was successful in the NFL, nevertheless, with the special teams guy You're getting the scraps. You're getting guys who weren't brought in. You have one guy, One guy really, who's brought in as a special teamer. He has to do something else, by the way, is a backup linebacker, the fullback or something. Now you have the kicker in the punter and the holders. You got that long snapper. Those guys were your responsibilities, too. But they kind of state of themselves. You don't really know what the hell you're doing. They have their own kicking coaches and all that crap. All very privatized. It's kind of a mess. The special teamers have to do something strong. Something borderline special. With very little right. You just have to make do with what you got. That's what good coaching is about. Hey, man, we don't have the most talent. How we gonna win it How we're gonna make this work. Oh, and by the way teams that have good special teams, usually good teams. I'm not talking just about I'm talking about your coverages. Returns and all that stuff. Not very many teams competing for the Super Bowl. I don't know what the hell they're doing on special teams. Three phases are important. I love what what Fred Warner was saying there Not a lot of gray area. Doesn't do a lot of scheme just lets us know what it is. We have to do so we can go out there and play fast and play smart. How would that not apply positively? As a head coach. How would a guy who is able to communicate what it is? He wants his team to do. Without any gray area without any nuance without making guys think too hard. Here is what I need you to do. How would that not apply? There's a lot of skepticism about defensive coordinators becoming head coaches and I totally get that It is an offense driven league. Yes. Straight up. And if you could get offensive genius like a Kyle Shanahan, arshad McVeigh er whomever Go to town. There's a lot more to this head coaching game than being able to call place. There is an offensive or defensive coordinator. It's about establishing culture. About establishing Identities. It's about making sure that everybody goes out there and it's able to execute what you need them to execute. And let that talent shine through if you got it, and if not, how you can execute to the point where you could make sure the other team's talent doesn't shine through because they're sloppy, and you're not Robert Salas, a leader of men. That is the first Requirement of being a head coach in the NFL, and some guys are real row about and they're usually not very good leaders. Robert Solid, gets excited on the sidelines, but he ain't rara about being a leader of men. You just make sure that his players who are professionals, adult men No. What they need to do to be successful on a weekend week out basis, and sometimes less is more on defense assurance. Hell is The offensive corner. Sometimes Maura's more, but don't worry, it will be communicated effectively Regardless. Leader of men. If you're a bad crappy football team, How is that? Not exactly what you're looking for. Right now. I don't care if he's an offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator or a guy who they just pulled off the street if he can get your team into one line. You could get them all stepping in the right direction. And I know Robert solid can You're gonna win some football games..

"Call it KNBR today with you until two o'clock. Peter Kurten Box sitting in for pop in one as aforementioned Talking about the culture around the 40 Niners and a lot of times that's a cop out argument, right? Well, I got a great culture them, man if you watch the 40 Niners defense on Saturday. Nothing to play for. Nothing to prove. And you don't think that that team has a winning culture. I don't know what to do for you. I don't know what to do for you. Luckily, Mitch agrees with me. He's in New Jersey. He wants to talk about him. He's 40 Niners. That is, But Mitch, you seem to you seem to agree with me on a larger point. Which is this team needs a quarterback to Yeah. How you doing? Happy New year Never. Jean Dexter. Take my call. Happy New year to you as well. Um Good show I hoping. Keep Jimmy. For being in proving that I didn't stand on. I'll need two new units. Get away from it. Yes, as quick as possible. Yeah. Love, Justin. Justin feels that organization. I think Joe Montana wasn't it started placing checks. Um Most importantly, I mean, they had this Super Bowl. They just kept running the ball, and they seem that Kind of corn. That kind of talk to change Things like go to Manny Davis linemen They were keeping and running back anymore receivers in. But that's kind of words week now mean Nick moans going through so much, sometimes who's playing like shore moans? What stands there was deeply she, especially officer and offenses, signed the defense line. But he had a breakdown with salaries off a bit of a miser. Just kinda explain that does the type of vision but I have to see out. All those teams are lost. Unfunny Civil games. The whole division detectives? Yeah. You have a good one. Thanks. Thanks Much Happy New Year. You as well, My friend. Uh Listen, there's a million different ways we can go. We can run through them all. If you'd like the keeping Garoppolo thing is fine. I wouldn't mind bring in a better back up. In fact, I wouldn't mind it. They need to bring in a better back up so much of this season was thrown away. Let's just call it like it is. Assed. Muchas Kyle Shanahan deserves credit. Robert solid, deserve credit. Well, this isn't really solid thing. So let's just stick with Shanahan as much as Kyle Shanahan deserves credit. For keeping this team engaged. Keeping this team focused, keeping this team fighting when they have nothing to play for. Going out there with CJ Bethan is their starting quarterback and punching. Justly deserves credit for that. He deserves some scorn for this. Why the hell are Nick Mullins and CJ bettered the backup options? Jimmy Garoppolo. Has had one healthy year in the NFL. He's played. One. Why are you thinking? Coming off of a Super Bowl that Nick Mullins is a viable option moving forward. Do we not learn the last time he filled in? For an entire season that he is not Same thing with CJ Better. I get carrying three quarterbacks. I do get that so covert year and Looking. They had to use all three if not for They had to go and get Josh Rosen. Man. Imagine if they went out and gotten somebody. Like a James Winston, who listen, No one's arguing that Jamis Winston is the be all to end all But if you put in some competition for Jimmy Garoppolo, maybe that brings out something better. And Jimmy Garoppolo. And if Jimmy Garoppolo still gets injured in the same way that he did If we're not gonna butterfly effect this thing too much. How many games could Jamis Winston of one? Yeah. A few More than Molins. I'll see with better. He's only going to get two shots at this bad boy. He won one. All he did was not turn the ball over. But he was much better than Mullins, who does just turned. That's his favorite thing to do is turn the ball over. Apparently. You know, you look at other team. The New Orleans Saints go to backup quarterbacks for four or five games stretches every year. There's still always competing. Always I'll Shanahan much like Sean. Sean Payton, offensive mastermind, right? Oh, these guys, These guys are brilliant. Come. Sean Payton continues to win with backup quarterbacks, but Kyle Shanahan can't What's that about? Is it because he's a little too loyal to guys who are good enough guys who know the offense really well. He trusts him in that regard. They can't do anything once they're on the field. Mean the joke around the 40. Niners Media room is that sometimes Kyle Shanahan thinks that he'd be the best quarterback for this team. This is why he loves her cousins. By the way, her cousins is a super nerd. I say this is a compliment. Her cousins. In Washington and now in Minnesota, has his own office. At the team facility so that he can stay late and study film. Listen. Every quarterback is studying film. He has his own office. He thinks himself the offensive coordinator of the team. That's why Kyle Shanahan loves him. He could have an intellectual conversation about the offense with Kirk Cousins. Her cousins will be an outstanding offensive coordinator in the NFL. Mark my words on that. He's gonna be very good at it. You just can't execute all that stuff. It's a little different sitting in the office. Then behind.

"The night off, but that show must go on. So here's Peter Kurten, Bob on KNBR 1045 and 6 80, the sports leader. Back with you on these fourth leader data Kurtenbach filling in for Mark Willard. Tonight, we'll do it again on Friday night. Mark is moving, so he's taking long weekends as we should all be so lucky to do. I don't get to do that. But I do get to talk to my good friend West Goldberg of the Bay Area newsgroup he covers the Golden State warriors. There does a bang up job. And while the MBA has now been off for about three weeks, it might be three weeks before they start up again. West first off. How you doing, man? I'm doing great. Yeah. All that stuff is a little catching me by surprise. It sounds like it's catching the wrestling by surprise. Maybe we'll be working soon, but I'm doing well. Yeah, Okay. So you were a bit surprised by it. Why is that? I've been inherently. The obvious answer is they haven't had an offseason yet, and they're expecting to restart it. But Logically. I mean, this is a money making venture. You would think that they would want to get in as many games as possible as soon as possible, right? Well, no doubt. But the surprise to me Wass just how quickly the N BA changed its priorities from wanting to play 82 games in front of fans, too. Basically saying, Well, you know what? Screw that. Let's just play some games as soon as possible Wherever we could do it. I thought that Adam Silver all this time was pretty adamant about wanting to play in front of fans and waiting for things to turn around. And look, I'm not saying 11 way is right or wrong to me. I was I'm sort of wondering. What the Jackson of the sun and change of Heart Wass from the N BA because that's the only reason that you start this thing in December is saying, You know what? Let's just grab this revenue while we can multiple reports saying that, you know, starting in December and getting the Christmas showcase will result in an extra $500 million. You know, I haven't. I haven't checked those numbers. Even if I did. I don't know what what I would do with them. But I have these numbers right now. I have these numbers. I'm not an accountant, right? But You know, I don't know that I don't know. That's the only way to make extra 500 million bucks is what I'm saying. So I I'm just I along thought that they would try to get a blotter. Offseason going. You look a star like LeBron James on DH Kohl, Eyeliner and Chris Paul guys that were involved in the bubble. Have a major voice within the league. If they want it, Do you really want to give up? Like this December that Christmas break after being leaving their family as long as they have been away from the family being in this bubble along if they have running a really recovery time because to me Um, maybe I'm going off my hand in here. But I'm a little It's also surprising to me because we knew that the Warriors were gonna have a lot of time off right. The regular off season is about four months. We're gonna have about eight months off. Double What the normal, innit? You compare that to the Lakers. They're they're going about two months off half of what a regular off season. It's the disparity has never been greater. And for a team like the Lakers that's gonna try toe defend its title on house superstars with Power within the league. I just never thought they would be able to get a December start through the players association that way Now nothing has been finalized, but everything that we're reading is at least encouraging. Is faras going on December 20 seconds start going, But I guess we'll wait and see. And and they actually do that. Well, once thought on why this is being accelerated and why they're going for the earlier time. In fact, I'll give you two and I want to get your thoughts on this first one. It's looking highly unlikely, given the current scenario of this country that there's going to be just open arenas across America anytime soon. I think a lot of people held out hope. I don't know if it was foolhardy or not that hey, by, you know, December of 2020 January 2021. Let's call it March 2021. There'd be open arenas. I think it's pretty clear now. Nothing's changing any time. Soon on that front in the MBA has been extremely pragmatic. Why wait? Because then you're pushed up against a limit and let's just get this over with first. And if we can get fans in, that's a bonus, But let's operate as if you know the miracle drug isn't coming any time soon, because, frankly, it probably isn't and then to Ah, They can't do the MBA finals in September and October. Again. They just can. The ratings were terrible. You're going up against the NFL. I understand that CNN and Fox News and MSNBC won't be getting the same ratings that they're getting now. Next year, but still you can't compete with everything. Baseball playoffs NFL Who knows what's going on with the NHL. And even if you go well, the MBA is the second biggest sport that's still taking chunks out of it. Right. So I I honestly think this is is a good plan. How likely do you think it is that it actually gets through the players Association? I would expect more push back then. I've heard so far, and I once becomes kind of formal and finalized and there's an actual proposal. That's what I expect The fireworks toe happen. Are you expecting the same thing? I thought there would be more pushback at first. But then Damian Miller tweeted something along lines of whatever Just do. What you gotta do is long as I get my summer vacation back on. So that kind of tells you where stars are kind of where their priorities lie here, and that's what this all comes down to right is priorities where Adam Silver in the roads that lead decided to priority. I think you're absolutely right. By the way they were waiting and waiting and waiting, and at some point you just can't wait any longer. And I thought, well, you know what the chances of getting a vaccine and being little do of regular season the way we would like to do it? In January. February are no greater than being able to do whatever we can. December, so let's just do in December, There was some talk about doing starting the season on Martin Luther King Day and having sort of that being the new showcase, But with this new proposed 72 games schedule you get opening night on December 22nd. Presumably a few days later, you get the Christmas showcase, right? And then a month after that, you get your MLK Day showcase, which has always been a day that filled the N B A owns 300. That's that's made you talked about before. We have, and so you're not cannibalizing your product really in any way any more. I mean, you're not going to the All Star game it sounds like but who cares? Yeah. Uh, So look, I'm I'm still we've heard a lot of different ideas flowed out there. Whether it be the bubble or for the draft has moved. All dates are fluid when it comes to the embassy, So I'm not ready to say you know what? Right in stone. Get your you know, get ready for a December 20 seconds start date, but it does only look like it's going in that direction, and I At this point, I just I suppose I don't really know what the players would fight back on..

Yes, sir. Welcome to KNBR tonight, The post Post game show. On the Giants radio now. Peter Kurten, Bach. Work. Will it got called up to the big leagues again? And there's a lot of roster movement in this strange season. We're getting into knbr too. Late calling from the taxi squad. Hey, that's a good game to get called in on. That's a nice, solid professional win. By the San Francisco Giants. There's a lot to talk about and want to get your thoughts on the game ate away. KNBR is the number You feeling better? Have a good mood about your right now. Feeling like a some of the good stuff that we've seen. Maybe a little bit validated. Maybe a little bit vindicated. That was a game that could have gotten away from the Giants in several places. They held on A really nice job. Great job from the bullpen. I'm looking at the box score here. I don't understand this. W next to the starting pitchers name. What does that stand for A win. A starting pitcher. Gotta win for the San Francisco Giants. He pitched 55 innings. Great start for Logan Web. And we'll talk a lot about him tonight on KNBR tonight. And Brandon Belt. Brennan Belt's gonna have three good weeks of baseball every year. That is a guarantee. He loves hitting a course field. Most guys do. Brandon belt takes it to another level. You throw some numbers at you here. 3 10 Batting average, 3 71 on base percentage. 5 20 for slugging percentage. Yes. 10 home runs and 31 R B ice in 65 games, of course, field. Will be a 30 homerun season about 90 R B. I If you were to play course Field all the time. Dude rakes at course. And maybe this is the thing to get him going. Maybe this is the thing to get that three week stretch. Of really good play. From Brandon Belt. If it is that bodes extremely well. For the Giants. I don't want to go out and pretend as if brain about was having a really bad start to the season. He was getting on base a lot. Nobody was working counts better than Brandon Belt, and this Giants team has him due to come work some counts. Really nice to see him have a nice big game. Three run homer. Difference in the contest. Big double. Scores the fourth run of the game. Wilmer Flores, driving him in It's a guy who listen. He is a Firebrand figure he is a lightning rod. Despite having none of those personality traits, right. He's not some guy who's going to be boisterous or or yelling anybody. People project what they want on the Brandon Belt. So far this season. ETI O PS. You can't complain about that. Those are really good numbers. Especially from the left side of the plate. Two hard hit balls tonight. Three R B I s And if again, this starts a three week stretch that's half the season right there. Annabelle close on one of these runs. Maybe the Giants come with him. Talk about Logan Web See the best starter on this giant staff right now. Jeff Samardzija. Maybe he just wasn't a stretched out as he thought, he Waas, but it has not been great for Jeff's a martyr to start the year. Johnny Cueto, listen, He's a pitcher. He knows what to do. He's an old pro. He doesn't have the same stuff. That he's had in the past. We expected that I don't know if we expected this. Rest of the rotation or whatever you could call this that the Giants are operating with. Is it here and there? You like some of it? You don't like a little bit more. Webb needed a game like this, though. Still technically a rookie, but we saw some really nice things from him. Last year. At eight games, eight starts. Say five of them Five of them were pretty darn good. I don't know if any of them was truly outstanding, maybe his major league debut Against the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 17th. Last year, seven strikeouts, one earned run five innings pitched. That was pretty good at another. He had couple seven strike out games. Last year. Giants didn't really push him. It was all about this year. And I won't lie to you. While the numbers look good, the is low. It's the stand at now. 213 He was getting head around. He was getting hit around in the 1st 2 games. And as strange as this might sound, the Giants defense was bailing him out. In those 1st 2 starts of the season. He needed a game like this, where he was just the dude. It wasn't getting lucky. He was getting dudes out. And he had really nice control tonight. No walks, huge numbers. I mean, that that that tells you everything you need to know. About Logan Webb this evening. No walks, four strikeouts solid five innings, four strikeouts. You're not going to complain about it couldn't be better. Probably, But listen, it's course field stuff doesn't break as much as you want it to break. I think back to his Second showdown with Charlie Blackmon. Really nice, really Nice combination fastball, changeup. And then the slider gets him out with the front wheel, I think was a backdoor slider. Backdoor slider to one of the best hitters in baseball and honestly put the pitch in a spot that Charlie Blackmon should have been looking for. That tells you how well he was working his pitches tonight. With slider break as much as you wanted to know what he said in the post game show. At the cutter really wasn't there? He doesn't throw the cutter enough to where you feel like That's going to be a big issue. You Khun drop that pitch from the repertoire. Really nice tail on the 94 mile per hour fastball. Slider coming in today, too, and I really like this change of tonight. I think that is a plus pitch for him when he's commanding it, and he commanded it. Right now. He's the best starter on this giant steam and we talked about it a lot. Last year. The potential was so obvious. Is he an ace? Is he a number One is he's a guy who's going to make an all Star game. Maybe I don't want to discount the possibilities here. But realistically He's a nice middle of the rotation guy. He's a guy who could go out there and have a really great start every now and again, but we were looking for with the middle of the rotation guy. His consistency, Steady performance. You know what you're going to get. Two runs tonight, Okay? There's no problems with giving up two runs, one of them unearned, first play of the game and air We're all sitting there going. Oh, here we go again. This team. Yes, I know. I am in on far, hon. I have faith in far, huh? But They're really going back to the original days of Moneyball here with this, we're not going to do very well on defense thing. I thought that we had progressed in the money ball era in the analytics era to now, where defense is Ubiquitous..

Although New York has got more of an artistic thing, a bohemian sad thats good. Thats true. Reed's going around, right? Right. Velvet Underground late. Ric Ocasek was no piece. Yeah, I know. The way spilling none of that vibe. Dude, I'd like to share this to Ah, Final thought on my birthday today, which is unless excited about my own birthday is I always have to tell you who else was born on my birthday because I got some luminary stood here. Here we go. Exhibit a Phoebe Cates. Hello? How Happy birthday Phoebe case and then Exhibit B. Stewart Copeland from the police will, for God's sakes. Yes. You know, it's Ah, It's almost like the I'm not. That's funny. I was just recently explaining astrology to our kids. They had no idea about these horoscopes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You have never seen like a 12 year old kids trying to learn that every day the newspaper can tell them how their day is going to be based on what day with their birthday is Yeah. Yeah, but in terms of astrology, I've always you know you laugh at it. You can't believe that for hundreds of years that human beings Actually believed in that stuff. Although we do have what a regular listener Andrea, the astrologer, right, Berkeley to Andrea, the astrologer, But you telling me that Phoebe Cates and Stewart Copeland share your birthday? Make me believe in some sort of his astrological powers. Do you know what I mean? I mean, let's just put it this way, Murph. I have spent a considerable amount of time with both in my life. If you know what I'm saying, Yes, yes, some deep some of your deepest moments with both of them. Yeah, stuff, man. Actually, I don't want to give you for your birthday. Did I want to give you more Joey? Bart, hype for your birthday? Dude, You know what? I'll take it. I'll take continues now got ramped up yesterday. Did you hear? I'm not sure. What do you refer? No, maybe Honor Flores shut out the warmer Flores, Our friend from Scottsdale with the blond hair and the totally obsessed and maybe wearing a mask by the way out there at first base right here, Which is fine by me. I don't care. Maska ways for massive. Sure he did. He was the one chosen to do the zoom after the game yesterday, and he went out of his way. Pump up Joey Bard. We had Longoria yesterday We got Flores and like the beat guys were saying, and I was saying you think they're trying to get a message across to Ah, So far home. Let me let me float something out there to humor from just going. I'm not saying this is any kind of sinister plot or anything, but I just want to, like, submit something for consideration and I want to get your reaction and crush me if I need to be crushed here you let me know when your birthday buddy, but one that I could take it. I'm a big boy. So what would you say? Is there anything to this idea Cause I started thinking about Okay, So Buster announces, and he's doing the right thing. By the way, I totally support Buster decision to protect his family. He's doing the right thing. That being said. What if they said, Yeah, Bart's ready to go. They bring apart now what would happen if porches starts Haring it up and hit over 60 games? No, no, Let's just say he hit like 3 12 with I don't know. 12 3 12 with 14 bombs hit me like a 900 0 p s stuff like that, right? So then I'm saying What would that potentially create a controversy so that when Buster says, Hey, now I'm ready to come back. Next year. Then maybe you'd have, like, almost like version of a quarterback controversy like the Niners used to have. I mean, I like your theory, But I'd like to think that that a professional sports organization is more worried about putting the best team on the field. So that's what I'm telling the eggs of a of a three time World Series champ. I think in whatever he's coming back to is, it's this. It's this arbitration clock that the lower the later they start him, the more they can control his money. I want to crow like you just said Oh, they're in the business of winning game. I want to quote the great Peter Kurten box shout out at Deter. Could I get it? Could I get a four second pause between thought and that's my boy just doing today? I want to I want to shout out Peter Kurten Fair is very nice. Yes, but he is because I get worried I'd you know me. I still get the old school paper. "Came in here and your data. Is that right? Yeah. Yeah, I get that a lot market. Get that hole. You deter all over this thing? Plenty. I think my editors like using that one, too, Whenever I turn into Crabbe column Thank you for for always being there, though. When? What? I need it, And I think that you're going. You're gonna deter all over this place a little bit next week, aren't you? Yeah, Like I've been hearing about how I came in and deterred all over and it's like, Well, everyone should be excited for Monday. What deters back on the air for his police. Ah, you Khun B a Now you could be a verb could be an adjective for all I care. But that's that's the versatility you bring. I'll take it. I appreciate it's better than Willard ing all over stuff. Well, boy, that's the truth. She's asked anybody around, that's okay. But how did how'd things go out there and Oracle Park today? Dude, it was like the first day of minimum security prison like I was wondering who I had to shank so that I could get some credit on the ground. It was weird man. It was not enjoyable at all. I love empty ballparks like they're my favorite thing. My imagination goes wild. I've been kicked off of the floor at Oracle Arena so many times for just like letting my imagination go wild like Sir, you have to leave like, please go away. We're trying to clean up here. I was in an empty ballpark today. I thought it would be this. Like, kind of like cool, like, okay, There's this weird thing going on, But I'm gonna be here. I'm gonna be in the center of it, and I hated every second of it. And the Giants did a great job. I don't want to say that this had anything to do with them. It just felt so dystopian, and there was nothing going on on the field like actually take my mind off the fact that it was this dystopian world we're living in I hated every second of it. I was so happy to go home. Okay, so this is really fascinating. That's a fascinating answer to me. Why? What? What is it that they were making you D'oh? Well, they weren't making you do anything that you wouldn't expect them to do. It's just when it's it's pretty clear that this is this is the kind of stuff is not going to go away any time soon. Right? Like you have this concept of what will probably happen, but when it's actualized It just feels Kind of just sad. It's just that because you don't know when you're going to go back to just having to go through, you know, the metal detector and nothing else When you're going tohave to not sign you know your rights away to Major league baseball just to enter. The ballpark when you're not going to have to fill out a questionnaire say, you know, have you have you been in contact with any person for any reason over the last 72 hours that might have had a slight tickling their throat. Like when you're not having to sit down in the press box with a mask on which listen, I get it. I understand all these rules like in between lines of tape that you have to be escorted around. When you're in the same ballpark. You see all the players down there. You have to do a zoom call because you can't go into the clubhouse and just shoot the breeze with guys the way that you would. It's again. None of these things in particular are ridiculous. They're all very well thought through well executed concepts to keep everybody safe, and that's the most important thing right now. But it's so hard when you're in the moment when you're living it. To imagine a world where this is not going to be the case when the last time you were there. None of this stuff was the case. It just feels it just feels irredeemable right now, and it was really frustrating for me emotionally. Almost OK, so you come out of today. More optimistic, more pessimistic or flat in terms of the season. The numbers that came out today with 1.6 or whatever guys something positive to give everyone optimism. Baseball. The Giants, they're doing an outstanding job of keeping players say in the players. With those numbers today are showing that they're doing a good job of keeping themselves safe. All these guys for a living in Florida and Arizona and yet only 1.9% 1.6% of these guys came back with positive test. Now we do have one positive test on the Giants, and we don't know the whole circumstance around that, too. When you include 100 bishop like Compared to what you're looking at with the MBA numbers and particularly when you're looking at the hot spot areas where again most of these guys live in the off season in Arizona and in the state of Florida, like this is really good. People are taking this seriously. They're going through. All the right protocols to say safe And so I think the season should rob Manfred has kind of put some water on it. Rob Manfred's not very good at talking. We should listen to him any more like 60 games. I wouldn't be surprised if they do it. I think that they're doing a good job. I just don't know if I want to show up for any of them. I don't know if there's any value in me being in those games, I'd rather be at home. Be comfortable. Not have to go through all of these protocols in such now have to put anyone at risk by skipping any of the protocols are going outside of those lines. I certainly don't want to do that, especially if the access that we get can be achieved in my backyard. Peter Kurten Barbarian newsgroup Abadi Deter is with us on the sports later. This is so interesting to me because I made the comment last night after we received all the protocols over email as media members that we would be expected to go through right in order to whether it's doing interview over Zoom, get a single game credential. No season credentials, all this stuff and I thought to myself immediately. I'm going to do this at least once and and probably pretty early because I would like to experience it and then be able to pass that along to the fans. But what what was going on in my mind was a game like you made the comment the beginning. There was nothing to look at down on the field to get your mind off the whole bummer vibe of this. Do you think it'll be different? If there's actually a game being played? I don't know, Ma'am. We've watched the Giants last couple of years. It might still be a bummer. Like I just throwing that out there like I do think that having live action, having something that feels consequential will help. Today with the worst case scenario, I imagine as this is going down. I mean, we all go through all of these soups and what I'm not complaining as a member of the media. This is this is the responsible thing for everybody to do. If it was any less of you whining and complaining about how unsafe it felt I felt super safe. I also felt completely boxes. That is just the new world that we live in. Nothing is perfect. Everything is going to carry a risk and you have to do your best with that environment, But we all get to the press box. We sit down. We see the new outfield. It looks great, and then we just sit there and watch a bunch of guys talk to each other. And then the highlight of the day was Brandon Belt in Brandon Crawford sprinting for like, two minutes like there's just not much. Tomorrow. I guess they're going to do some BP. You know, maybe we'll get some guy's pitching live BP like that could be interesting. But how interesting is it? I mean, I like I really enjoy spring training and showing up in watching the side deals and stuff. We're not even getting that. I mean, it's just baseball practice in baseball practice. Well, it's not all that interesting. Baseball games are interesting on so I think it will be better once the game starts. But even then, I mean, is it worth all the hassle when again you're not getting any of the access. You're basically just watching something in person that's going to be the same as it is on TV more or less. What did you view in terms of the players like what they have to do differently in order to go about their business. Well, it's tough because this is another thing like usually is you Well know we're behind the curtain in the clubhouse were in the hallways. We see guys going in and out. We walked at that batting cage. We're hanging out of the dugout. None of that stuff is happening anymore again for good reason. So I don't really know what's going on with them. They all seemed in very good spirits. Ah, lot of them, at least the guys that we talked to today on zoom while being in the same ballpark. Brandy Crawford and Brandon Brandon Crawford in Jeff's Margit. They've been working out in Arizona, so I think this is more of the same for them. They're They're just happy doing it in bigger groups. Now that everyone seemed really positive and optimistic, and it makes sense when you're the Giants, especially don't really expected much for them this season, and now they get dropped into a 60 game stretch where they're tied for the lead in the division..

Once under arrest curtain provided horribly detailed accounts of his string of crimes to psychologist Professor Carlberg who later published the confessions and a book entitled Old Sadist Curtain Claimed Seventy nine individual violent crimes and all and went into great detail in order to convince the authorities of his guilt. Perhaps he did this hoping hoping that his full cooperation would ensure the maximum financial benefit for his wife. Curtains memory was nearly photographic and his confession of each violent offense obviously provided him with great pleasure the attending stenographers were much less enamored by his recollections. Curtains trial began on April thirteenth. Nineteen thirty one. Despite the vast number of crimes he was reported to have committed over the years he was only charged with nine murders and seven attempted murders. He arrived in court looking much like a successful business. Man wearing a well fitting suit during the initial hearings. Curtain retracted. His initial confessions and claim that he had only sought ought to ensure his wife's financial security upon his arrest however intensive questioning by the magistrate and damning pile of evidence caused him to eventually admit Matt Gilt after two months of interrogation with no emotion in his voice curtain claimed that his violent childhood upbringing and the German prison system were responsible support for releasing a sadistic monster on the world. He showed no remorse for his crimes and still appeared to relish his memories. The jury was only out out for ninety minutes and returned with a verdict of guilty on all counts curtain received sentences and was executed by Guillotine on July second nineteen thirty one in Cologne Germany. After he was executed his head was mummified and bisected so that psychologists and medical scientists could examine his brain and they were convinced that a man so sadistic and violent cannot have normal brain and it required extensive. Study the mummified remains of curtains header header now said to be on display at the Ripley's believe it or not museum in the Wisconsin dells. "And welcome to another episode of the midnight story our tonight. We will explore explore the life and crimes of a man named Peter Curtain who later became known as the vampire of Dusseldorf. This episode is exceptionally violent contains mature content went and is not suitable for minors or those with weaker. Constitutions listener discretion is advised with that being said let us begin. Peter Curtain certain was born into a home of extreme poverty and neglect near Cologne Germany. On May twenty sixth eighteen eighty three. He was the eldest of thirteen children to an alcoholic like father was sadistic tendencies. His father brutalized the entire family in the one room apartment that they all shared for the duration of curtains childhood. He would often be curtains. Britain's mother and forced her to perform sexual acts even while the children were present at the age of sixteen curtain ran away from home to escape the continuing violence and sexual torture orcher shortly after he ran away. His father was arrested for an incestuous relationship with curtains. Thirteen year. Old Sister and was jailed for only three years. This was a much. It's lighter sentences and Peter himself would later receive the daily subjection to sexual violence must have had an immense influence on curtain and at the age of nine he formed an unhealthy healthy relationship with the dogcatcher living in the same building as curtains family. This man eventually introduced curtain to the practice of bestiality with the dogs that he captured as as curtain matured sexually his BC -ality extended to sheep goats and other farmyard animals. The teenager also discovered he gained further pleasure when the animals were stabbed tab during intercourse curtain later admitted to mutilating the animals in order to achieve orgasm his bestiality eventually stopped shortly after being caught by a farmer farmer while trying to have intercourse with a pig and stabbing it to death however this was not the end of his crimes as teenager curtain committed several petty crimes in his his hometown these exploit soon led to the first of many short prison sentences and he was repeatedly jailed for various misdemeanors which predominated his existence over the next several years with each successive sentence curtains rage against society and his capacity for depravity increased. He also discovered a desire for sadistic stick sexual acts while in solitary confinement solitary gave curtain plenty of quiet time to dwell on his fantasies and he began breaking prison rules just to ensure the maximum amount of time in that lonely confinement. The appalling conditions within the prisons fueled his sadistic fantasies which he now transferred from farm animals to humans curtain claimed to have drowned to school friends at the age of nine having pushed one over the side of a boat. The second dove into rescue their friend and curtain than held both both underwater until they had suffocated at the time. The event was dismissed as a tragic childhood accident. However during his periods of release from prison sentences curtain hurt was responsible for multiple sexual assaults? These could not be so easily explained away and as his sadistic tendencies increased so did the severity of his crimes. Curtains I confirm. Murder victim was a ten year. Old Girl named Christine Klein Curtain raped and stabbed the young girl in her home in clone on May Hey twenty fifth nineteen thirteen the whole time. Her parents were working in their pub below. The apartment curtain returned to the scene of the crime. The next day and was enamored by the horror. The killing had invoked in the locals. He was especially excited when he saw the reactions. After the sexual assault came to light Christine's uncle had argument with her father's shortly before the young girl was killed and he immediately became the main suspect. Fortunately the innocent uncle was eventually cleared of the murder due to lack lack of evidence all the while curtain followed the trial with interest and it fueled his sadistic appetite to make others suffer. It wasn't until much later that he would admit to raping raping and killing the young girl in his confessions in nineteen. Oh four curtain was drafted into military service following the start of World War One. Unfortunately he did not enjoy living under military discipline and he soon deserted from his barracks. He was immediately jailed once he was captured and remained imprisoned until nineteen twenty one. This was curtains longest sentenced to date and his rage what he viewed as an injustice intensified after curtain was released from the military prison. He moved to Altenburg there he met and married a former prostitute named augusts sharf who had been jailed at one time for the murder of her fiance. He spent the next four years living a life of relative normality and found work as a moulder even becoming active in the trade union. Unfortunately this normal life would be short lived. The marriage was hardly a a happy one and curtain was increasingly unfaithful to his wife when a gust realize that her husband had been sleeping with not one but two of their maids. She forced one of them to to press charges against curtain for sexual assault. The charges stuck in court and he was sentenced to yet another prison sentence for six months. After his release curtain found himself drawn to Duesseldorf there his criminal tendencies continued to escalate from more petty crimes and arson attacks to violent sexual attacks. One unlucky lucky victim. Maria coon survived repeated stabbings by curtain that caused twenty four individual wounds. Curtains preferred method of torture and murder was stabbing his victims with a pair of sharpened scissors and addition to physically mutilating the victim curtain would sexually abuse and strangled them into unconsciousness. He occasionally returned turn to crime scenes to discuss his crimes with police. Under the guise of a concerned citizen curtains crime escalation began to reach its peak with the killing of nine year. Old Rosa. The ohlinger on February Ninth Nineteen twenty nine. She was stabbed thirteen times by curtain. who sexually climaxed during the brutal attack? He then dumped her body under a Bush and had set fire to her in order to destroy the evidence. Rosa was the first of many victim that included young girls women and even some men over the next several months month's curtain murdered six people. The first was woman that he stopped for. Almost a week is plan was to crucify the woman on a D.. Composting tree in order to cause a the scene for the public. Eventually he settled for burying her and send a detailed glitter of the crime to police even included a map to her body. After writing writing the letter curtains switched from his signature pair of scissors to a knife. An attempt to throw police office trail. He randomly stabbed three people an eighteen year old girl. A thirty dirty old man and a thirty seven year old woman. All three victims managed to escape but each one described their attacker differently. which only confused the police? A forty five borough mechanic named share soon followed and was the victim of multiple stab wounds curtain again. Returned to the scene of the crime to relive the moment even speaking to detectives about Out The murder. The German press covered the attacks extensively and thrived off. The sensationalism curtain was creating when the newspapers discovered that authorities. I believe this violent killer might be drinking. The blood of his victims curtain was named the vampire of Dusseldorf. Unfortunately during this time the press and the authorities were misled sled. When a learning disabled individual names stops Berg inexplicably admitted to all of the sadistic vampire killings stop? Spur had been accused of similar crimes crimes in the past and was committed to an asylum after a quick trial. The police in the press were convinced that the case was closed by August of nineteen twenty nine when it became obvious that the court's conviction stocks Berg was premature. A series of strangulations and stabbings occurred which culminated in the brutal fairground murder of the two girls. five-year-old Gertrude and her fourteen year old foster sister. Louise the next day curtain assaulted. Another woman gertrude. Sheltie is survived the attack and gave police a description of her attacker as a pleasant looking male around forty years. Old attacks became more frequent. And were widely publicized by the newspapers throwing throwing the population of Dusseldorf into a frenzy panic as the victim count sword hire a woman named Ida Ruder was raped and killed in September while a servant girl named Elizabeth Breath Dory or was battered to death in October. Two other victims stay mirror and wanders were fortunate to survive brutal hammer attacks unfortunately neither were able able to give a clear description of curtain which made it difficult to narrow down. The list of potential suspects curtain immensely enjoyed the panic and horror. He created and fed off the attention attention he received from the press he even went so far as to contact a newspaper. In November of nineteen twenty nine he sent a map to the location of Gertrude. Albumin a five five year old girl. He had stabbed to death. Today's before and dumped her body under a pile of trash curtains attacks continued through that winter and into the spring of nineteen eighteen thirty but none were fatal they.
