Disney World still plans to reopen this weekend, despite Florida's surge in coronavirus cases

"Peter King is in Orlando Peter What's Disney's plan? They spent four days doing soft reopening activities, first with cast members and then two days with some of the annual pass holders. Now they are reopening the animal Kingdom and Magic kingdom In the next Wednesday, they open up two more parks, Epcot and Hollywood studios. Tio everybody what new precautions is Disney taking, especially as they begin to welcome these people from all over the country, at least into Disney World, Steve, the question really is what are they doing? I mean, It all starts with having to have a ticket before you go there and making a reservation. If you don't have a reservation, they don't let you in. When you get to the gate. They take your temperature, and if you or anybody in your party is at 100.4 degrees or higher you don't get to go with that is the threshold. Disney has added a hand sanitizer handwashing stations, frequent cleaning, social distancing the requirement for face coverings. There are also apse for mobile contactless food ordering, so it's an awful lot of things going on. And on top of that they are limiting the number of people who are allowed in the park every day. We don't know what the numbers are. They never released those. So what's the reaction been then from officials and public health advocates in Florida, considering they have Breaking records in Corona virus cases recently. Yeah, it's a real paradox here. But, you know, with apologies to Pluto's Disney is the big dog here in Orlando, and it drives tourism even though Universal in Seaworld have been open for a few weeks, and we haven't heard of any problems coming out of their re openings. Nor with Lego landed Winter Haven or Kennedy Space Center over on the space coast and from the governor on down to the mayor is here in Orange County. They're all very happy with what Disney is doing and their safety protocols and I think the governor went as far as to say that Disney maybe one of the safest places to be, and this is has Covert 19 cases here in Orange County, multiply its something like 1400% in the past several weeks. "So back on the Peter King podcast. Now, we take into the second half of the Super Bowl. And obviously at halftime New England leads three to nothing. There's a collective shock in the press box. I can tell you talking to some of my friends in the business, and and we're all sort of saying men what what's going to happen in the second half. I mean, it's totally unrealistic think that this is going to keep going the way it is. But I think what was very interesting that happened at in the middle parts of this game. Is that it simply reinforced a lot of people say, well, they'll make some changes at halftime. And and obviously, you know, the coach of the Los Angeles Rams, Sean McVay as young wonder kind and. And I think a lot of people at halftime thought. Well, we'll see what what happens in the third quarter. But the fact is. The Rams and patriots. Didn't do a lot different. In fact, as I write in my football morning in America column today at NBC sports dot com. One of the big things that happened in this game was that in the fourth quarter, midway through the fourth quarter after the patriots had ten drives in this game and scored three points total. It was a three to three game. And. I just sort of was looking at this game. Have you ever seen a game? A baseball game that you think boy, I better watch every pitch of this game. Because there could be a solo home run in the fourth inning that decides this these teams are so close. So that's sort of what I was thinking that, you know, it's a classic pitcher's duel in baseball, and that's what we were watching here. But I'll tell you what I really think turn the tide and. You know, you'll you'll get a kick out of this early this morning. So as I record this Monday morning, it's about three forty AM. I'm sitting in my hotel room in Atlanta. And as I'm recording this, I I've just come back in the last hour or so from the patriots team hotel, and one of the things that I did while at the patriots team tells try to find out a why they were so frustrated against the Rams defense and be and I think this is this is a really important part of it think about this. Why in the world the New England Patriots were able to sort of flip a switch and score ten points onto drives in the fourth quarter. After being basically shut out for the first three plus quarters of this game. And. At the patriots team.

"And I my little snippet of a conversation with a rookie all pro safety of Los Angeles chargers after their great win in Baltimore on Sunday Derwin, James. Back in the Peter King podcasts Derwin James the all pro safety with the Los Angeles chargers before we talk about this game. You just played always your reaction when you heard that. You're all pro as a rookie in the NFL. I was excited on just coming in. I said all the way back to the combine that I wanted to come in and Ernest position and be all pro and make the probe. Also that was one of my goals coming in and like I say just for us to continue to win. And just do what we need to do. Why was this game this year for you? Not that big a transition. It seemed from the very start you played big in big games preparation everyday. My daily habits that I do every day, and my coaches doing a great job prepare me. I mean, I got great teammates. And like I said we challenge each other everyday in this spec. My best out of me every day, and I've been bringing that every day, and it just transitioned to on Sunday or standing in the bowels of Mt. Bank stadium in Baltimore. You guys just gone on the road for the eighth time this year and one football game. You've been to London you've been to Baltimore you've been to Kansas City. You've been all over the map and you've won games. You've won eight football games on the road. Why have you guys been such a good routine this year with raw moments like this coming into other people housing like I say plan char football for four quarters. I mean, we we feel like we always Dylan as a team more and more on those playing rather than just getting over here. Just own a road in the hotels on the road. We love it. We love it. We love we love it love it. I mean is absolutely fun. Why why is that? Asleep in God that we have in a locker room, honestly. 'cause it's fun to be around guys. Like this twenty four seven. I love football coaches that love football twenty four seven. So I feel like it's going on the room. Okay. So the first time you play these guys two weeks ago, they ran for one hundred and fifty nine yards. They pass for two hundred two yards. I don't know the stats in this game because they were inflated because what happened late but through three quarters. You've just totally snuffed them out. What was the Gus Bradley game plan this week? And what was the idea coming in? I do we will put on we got seventy Bs. Unfortunately, we had put seventy Bs on 'cause battling injuries. But I feel like we did a great job of just you know, again speed on the field and just get into the ball. And containing and line did a great job all day of you know, again to the quarterback and not carrying too many rushland foster not not for too many states to get the ball. So overall team the first snap of the game. You. Were there waiting for Lamar Jackson. And it was almost like you. You you were spying just to make sure we're not gonna let Lamar Jackson outside. We're not gonna let him beat us. Yeah. I snap of the game. How did that feel the you? And what did you see that it took off from there like the momentum of defense when they seen that we make that? I when I make the first play I feel like from narrow it was would just win to click an clicking come another place. So like I say everybody star making big plays. And we start getting big sacks interceptions. And like I say offense the ball. So I feel I. We've got a great thing going around here. What do you think Gus Bradley's mantra was this week when he would talk to you guys about the important things in this football, just being able to read your keys, he knew that was gonna be small, you know, coming in with with a DB's, but we we thrive on on being physical..

"Yeah. Welcome to the Peter King podcast. Right. Try to tell you something about football. Maybe just a tiny bit about life. This week all football. We're gonna start with Derwin James, the all pro rookie safety of the Los Angeles. Chargers. "So I'd have to make sure that he was clear on that. I'm not just saying hire Bruce Arians right now. I'm saying there's a lot of guys out there that potentially would fit. What you? You want to do to tape a team you wanna build if you're John Dorsey? It's just philosophically which way do you wanna go? And for me. I think somebody that has an offense of mind. That's an offensive driven league. I'm a big offensive guy right now if John Dorsey has that guy, then you have to trust John Dorsey to make that decision. Have you seen enough outta Baker Mayfield to know if he should be the Browns long-term quarterback? I think he is. I think that he definitely has the the opportunity. To excel. I do think there's more talented needs to be put around him specially at the wide receiver position. But athle- I think he conceptually he gets the game. I think he sees the field. Well, but like all rookie quarterback's you need to start making better decisions. But if you if you put me under the hot lights and say his Baker Mayfield going to be the quarterback of the future the Cleveland Browns, my answers definite. Yes. I think he has that ability. You know, Chris, I can't think of anybody who would be more qualified to answer. This question. You grew up right near the pro football hall of fame. You went to a high. Oh state late near career. You're Cleveland Brown for a short time. And I just wonder right now, why should fans in Cleveland have any hope at all that this is gonna work. Well, I think they have stability in the front office. John dorsey. A football guy. Right. They tried all other ways. But I think John Dorsey has a proven track record. I think John Dorsey understands what it takes to build an organization. And I also trust and John Dorsey to draft very good players in the higher coached at he can work with and I'm going back to the points that I made earlier in order for any organization to be successful the head coach and the general manager must be on the same page of what type type of team they are going to build and I do think just answer the previous question. Yes. I do think they have a franchise quarterback instability with Baker Mayfield. What advice would you have for Jimmy has learned the owner of the Browns right now, I'm saying I appreciate your efforts of what you're doing for Cleveland Browns. A really do. And I admire your. I your willingness to try to keep making things, right? I now which you need to do is you need to hire. Peter King president Joe Thomas, general manager and crispy minutes head coach. So you think he needs to be an owner who doesn't stick his nose into things has to allow step out of the way in loud Dorsey to hire the head coach now, obviously he can have input and say in it. But I I do think that you know, John Dorsey has to be able to hire head coach and the head coach has to be willing to listen to the general manager and general manager has to be willing to listen to the head coach can't emphasize enough. How important it is for the organization everybody understands their role in they enter stand where they fall as far as the thirty with any organism. And so that somebody has to have final say, and I think they can do that. And get it done. Chris really, really appreciate. Joining me. Thanks a lot for your insight. Good luck..

"Back on the Peter King podcast really happy to be joined by Chris Spielman. Why think is one of the most interesting people I have ever covered in thirty four years of the NFL. He was so intense that one time I wanted to do a story of his life in football and see what he really went through to prepare for a game when I worked at Sports Illustrated, and Chris who was at the time. A hugely intense linebacker for the Detroit Lions when I proposed this idea to him to sort of hang around with him as he prepared for a game. He looked up at me. And he goes, I don't remember if it was through gritted teeth, but I think he was a little bit. I don't know a put off by the question. He said my life is not the frigging NFL today. I got a great kick out of that. And I always respect the passion of guys, and I've always really really respected the passion of Chris Spielman. So Chris thank you so much for joining me. I'm gonna jump right into this. And just ask you your now, a talk show host in Ohio. You you grew up in northeast, Ohio. You grew up basically in the shadow of the pro football hall of fame. Now, you do NFL games for FOX. So you're round the game. And I wanna know this. Why did Hugh Jackson fail? I think they're couple reasons you can't one is not that he didn't have the opportunity in years to fix it. But if I sit back and look at it, there's a lack of stability within the organization. Alexa stability in front office. There was constant changes. And you take a look at Hugh Jackson and. What they were trying to do when you're not working hand in hand with the front office in there's constant stress and pressure. It's never going to work. I think the other thing is the obvious answer. Is there was never stability at the quarterback position. I do believe now that they have that stability with Baker Mayfield. But didn't Hugh Jackson know what he was getting into. Yeah. But my point is they weren't getting along. Whether they went whether it was everybody was Coon by yacht. I an all in. But as as the process went on they started infighting and pointing fingers at each other. So what organization when you have everybody pointing fingers at each other on the inside is ever going to be successful. It's not they're not on the same page in..

It's about the relationship between Aaron Rodgers and Bart star, even though they're separated by fifty years stars eighty four star seniors. Eighty four, Aaron Rodgers, thirty four. They really have a lot in common and they have a very, very good relationship. So anyway, I'm gonna talk to Bart junior about that relationship. And what I'm going to do. The reason I did this and and and you have to pardon me because my recording equipment that I use, I basically use my iphone and so my recording equipment is not good because I didn't anticipate that I was going to record him for my podcast. So I I apologize in advance for a recording, sound quality. That isn't very good, but I really, really enjoyed the conversation with Bart Starr junior talking about growing up in Green Bay talking about having Bart star for a dad talking about his dad today, Bart Starr senior suffered a debilitating stroke of four years ago. He's got a disease called the Faiza which makes speaking and understanding and actually doing anything with the English language, a real chore. It's the disease that afflicts Paul Zimmerman my former comrade at sl. And Paul has a lot worse than bar does. But, but anyway, I just really loved the conversation that I had with Bart junior. And so I wanted you to hear that. And I hope I'm not boring you by giving you a gambling expert and the son of the greatest player in football fifty years ago. But I just wanted to do something a little bit different this week because I'm fascinated not only by the future of gambling in the NFL, but also I'm fascinated by Bart Starr's life and Bart Starr junior's life. So before we get too far into our podcast, let's go to our first conversation. Chad millman chief content officer of the action network, and he's going to talk about how cool it is that he has a job where he can talk about things like the Vig and the spread and the over under. Every day of his life. Back on the Peter King podcast. I'm happy to be joined today this week to tell me about things that I have absolutely no idea about. It's about gambling. I truly don't know because I think it's foolish to bet on the NFL. Because I just think it's impossible. But anyway, we have the chief content officer for the action network says, name's Chad millman. Chad is the former. Editor of ESPN the magazine. He did that for five years and he was the editorial director VP and digital for a couple years. And then he got hired to basically run the action network, which is a sort of a content place to learn everything you need to know about gambling and sports and sports betting. So anyway, Chad, thank you for coming in. You left out the most important part of my resume..

"Basically? Well, it was a lucky break after the game with me, and I said that was not look. You've practiced that probably a hundred times a day since you were a kid. I've read about him. He's an Australian rules football kid, and he just loves kicking the football. So he's going to be very interesting to watch. I don't know whether that qualifies as offense of her defensive rookie of the year, but he's going to be one of those Seahawks by the way I think are going to be really good. Everybody says, well, they got all these questions about them. I think they're going to be really good. Lastly, this has nothing to do with the NFL nothing, but I met Mark Maguire on this trip. He's the bench coach for the San Diego Padres. I went down one day Bill Johnston, the former PR guy, the San Diego Chargers did not go with them when the chargers moved from San Diego to Los Angeles. So now the Los Angeles chargers have new PR staff, mostly new and Bill Johnston is. Is the San Diego Padres. I think he's director of corporate communications, but he's got a PR job with the Padres. And so he invited me down. I went down with Don a pseudo and his son Dom is the editor of my column football morning in America. And we went down and we got a tour of the clubhouse and everything spent some time with the general manager AJ prelature and had a good time also got to meet. We were there. They were playing the Diamondbacks Tori level low, the Diamondbacks manager, and I had a good conversation. I got to meet Nick Ahmed of the shortstop for the Diamondbacks who I don't even. I don't know if he knew this or whatever. But when I was in high school in Connecticut, Nicomedes mom was a good friend of mine Janus Arado. So I got to meet Nick, watch him play, and. God, he's sixteen Jackson's year pretty good anyway. So mitt, Mark Maguire. He was just sitting alone watching some tape. In some side room in near where the Padres club houses and normally in a situation like that, what you wanna do is basically, hey, good to meet you. You know, pleasantries all that stuff, but we actually talk for a few minutes and at the end of it, I just said to him, you know, I really admire how you handled what must have been hellish situation for you and how you've come out on the other side and you seem to have rebuilt your life and you're just a regular guy in baseball. I said, I just think that's very cool. I don't know if people notice that or whatever, but I Meyer the way you came out of it and he goes, thank you. He said, I love the game. I love baseball. It's just a cute moment of that. Sometimes you, you're on a training camp trip tour and unexpected things happen, and it's just kind of fun. But anyway, those are a few thoughts I have about training camp. I'm not sure whether this works, whether you'd rather hear me talk to somebody, but I just thought it would be fun to you. You know to basically do something a little bit different on the podcast this week, and I appreciate you bearing with me and listening while I ramble a little bit about NFL training camps. "He just reminds me so much right. Now of on Miller, the player he hopes to emulate, they went to the same school in Myles. Garrett has shown so far in training camp in preseason games that he's going to be a force to be reckon with watching the Browns. I know we say this every year. I don't like them offensively. I think they're lying is terrible. And we have to remember they went, oh, and sixteen last year in lost their best player. So everybody just say, hey, they're going seven and nine, six and ten this year. That's gorgonzola. But I do think that they're going to be better. I do think that without any question that they're going to be a competitive defense. I'll be very surprised if they don't hold eight nine ten teams under twenty points in two thousand eighteen. It was interesting being in camp watching the San Francisco, forty Niners. Everybody wants to pump the brakes on the forty Niners as do I, but it's hard not to stand on the sidelines in practice. And if you're a forty Niner fan, it's hard to not get excited particularly when you watch Jimmy Garoppolo in you, watch Kyle Shanahan calling the plays for coaching them and being sort of the, you know, the the guy, pulling the marionette strings behind him. Tony Romo told me a month or so ago that Kyle Shanahan is a genius, and I do not use that term lightly. I think the combination of Shanahan and and Jimmy Garoppolo is gonna make this team a contender to win double digits every year that they're together. Now, let's have a note of caution. The secondary has some bumps is not great if Ruben fosters had concussion issues. Is not healthy playing consistently. Their linebacker core is not that good, and they've drafted a lot of guys high on the defensive line. But other than to forest Bugner I question whether any of them is going to be a superstar, so they're going to really struggle. I think holding people down consistently this year. But I also think they're going to be able to score heck of a lot of points. Now, one of the most impressive players I saw on the training camp trip was a punt a rookie punter from Australia, and he played college football at the university of Texas. His name is Michael Dixon. He was a fifth round pick by John Schneider and the Seattle Seahawks and the game. I saw him in Minnesota in week three was the first time I bet in NFL history where a guy has had to fifty five plus yard punts that both died inside the five. Yard line, they didn't just die. They hit inside the five, and they took a hard right turn, and it was the most amazing thing. And he pleaded..

"Back on the Peter King podcast in this, of course, is Peter King, and I'm going to finish up now with a few thoughts, non quarterback thoughts on my training camp trip to or thirty six days across the United States. And as I said, leading off the podcast really thought that I wanted to sort of empty my mental note book about what I saw out there and really some of the opinions I have after seeing a bunch of these teams. So I went to me Jon Gruden the new coach of the Oakland Raiders the old in new coach of the Oakland Raiders seventeen years between coaching jobs with Gruden in Oakland. I think I'm writing saying he left when he was thirty eight and now he's fifty five and I went there to see if there is any dimension of verve spirit, whatever. And although I found him when I watch. Him practice to be not the yeller screamer owner of every minute of practice that I remember of Jon Gruden. I still found that he really really loves what he's doing and he's inventing these new drills that I've never seen before. I wrote about this in my football morning in America column at NBC sports dot com. I wrote about how he practice. He has a one session that might be about fifteen to eighteen minutes long where the quarterbacks practice without laces on the football and you say, what in the world is that? But he found when he watched football during his absence during his nine years away from the game, he found that when he watched the game, he would see quarterbacks taking shotgun snaps and getting heavily rushed and not having the time to find the laces to throw the ball properly said like Ben Rothlisberger does this all the time Derek card did it too when you get a shotgun. Snap, and you can't put your fingers on the laces. You basically have to hurry up and throw it in whatever shape you get the ball in. I don't mean shape, but I mean, if you don't have the ability to use the laces, you gotta throw the ball anyway. So it was really, really interesting talking to him about a lot of things. But one thing I found myself thinking we talked about this. I want you to think about this for second that Jon Gruden when he was a coach in Tampa Bay gave Kyle Shanahan his first coaching job in the NFL. Kyle Shanahan was twenty four years old came in as an offensive, quality control coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Now, Kyle Shanahan obviously is the coach of the San Francisco forty Niners a very good young quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, and they will meet this year in midseason the Oakland Raiders at the San Francisco forty Niners. He gave another guy his first job in the NFL. EV young kid in two thousand seven. His first job in the NFL also is an offensive. Quality control coach, a wide receiver from Miami of Ohio named Sean McVay and Sean McVay came down to Tampa and basically did a lot of the stuff that Kyle Shanahan had done. I think three years earlier and and Now Sean McVeigh is the new wonder kind coach in the NFL brought. The Rams in his rookie year is coach from thirty second in the NFL and offense in two thousand sixteen to I in the NFL in offense in two thousand seventeen and now first game of the season, it's going to be Sean McVeigh at Jon Gruden Monday night football, the captured a week, one of the season, and I just find it. So ironic that Jon Gruden who was the master, who was the teacher who brought in these. Wet behind the ears kids. These guys just getting their starting coaching, Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVeigh, and now Kyle Shanahan Sean McVay probably two of the five hot coaches in football right now, maybe to the three or four, but very popular around the NFL very well respected early on in their careers. And now it's Jon Gruden is going to have to try to catch up to the kids that he helped train to get in this position. Just a fascinating story in my opinion for other quick points. Number one, the Browns really have a good defense. I love Djibril peppers. He's not getting a lot of attention yet, but I think Djibril Djibril peppers in the secondary and sort of being a monster Rover back at linebacker in the secondary is really going to be dangerous for people to account for and Myles Garrett..

"Welcome to the Peter King podcast where I talked to a lot of people around the sports, particularly in football, but not exclusively, but it's the football time of year. So football were going to talk this week. I'm gonna give you my memories. My ten best things that I saw. Traveling around the United States going to see twenty two teams over thirty six days in training camps around the United States. So we're going to do the podcast a little bit differently this week. I'm gonna do two segments myself because I thought of what I would want to do this week. And I just thought I've done so much on this training camp trip been home for a couple of days now, but I've done so much on this training camp trip. I've seen so much. I've learned so much and an awful lot of that. I haven't written in my football morning in America column at NBC sports dot com. I've just got it in the old cranium. So I just thought, here's the way we're going to do this podcast can be different than anyone I've ever done before. I'm going to do to Saguenay maybe twelve minutes a piece and in the middle of that, sandwiched by my two Saguenay is going to be a segment. I'm gonna do with Joe Horrigan the pro football hall of fame executive director and archivist, and in my opinion, after the death of Steve sable the real keeper of the flame in professional football, you just simply don't know him. So we had a meeting last week, the pro football hall of fame that I'll tell you about, and then I'm going to have a conversation with Joe Horrigan, but sandwiching that will be some thoughts. I, I'll have a section about quarterback thoughts as I went around training camps. And then I will have a section later in the podcast, all about all other thoughts, five other specific thoughts I had going around from camp to camp. Around the United States. So we're going to start off first with a few of my thoughts about quarterbacks. And you know, I'm gonna start in Baltimore. That was the first stop on the training camp trip, Owings mills, Maryland, where obviously, Joe flacco who won the Super Bowl five years ago for the for the Baltimore Colts and got handsomely rewarded twenty million dollars a year contract, and he just has not played well the last two or three years last two years because of injury. But obviously the Baltimore, Ravens drafted a quarterback in Lamar Jackson and in the first round. And they aim at some point to give the reins of this team to Lamar Jackson. And I found Joe flacco what I went to ravens camp. He's the same old joke kind of laconic and not really seemingly upset by much, but somebody who's. Been around the ravens for a long time, says Joe wants to stick it up their rear end, you know, Joe wants to show the ravens that there was no need for you to draft a quarterback, and I'm going to show you why the day I saw him. He threw six balls over forty yards, four completions, and I said to myself my gosh, this looks like the flacco who went in beat Denver in the wildcard game. I think two thousand twelve throw in the ball all over the place and outdueling Peyton Manning. So look, I don't know what's going to happen in Baltimore. I can't swear that flock is going to have a great year. But all I know is I think he is soup rim Lee motivated by the ravens, drafting a quarterback. He's healthy for the first time after two training camps being hurt. And I think Joe flacco has got a very good chance to have a redeeming year quarterbacking the Baltimore Ravens. Now. Let's go to Carson Wentz and Philadelphia. The third stop on my trip was in Philadelphia to see the first day that Carson Wentz had pads on since the day in December two thousand seventeen. When he hurt his knee, suffered a season, ending knee injury against the Rams and and that was on December nine. I think two thousand seventeen. So here we were ill basically eight and a half months later. And this was the first time he was going to put pads on and play at full speed with pads on since the day..

"And now my conversation with Jordy Nelson of the Oakland Raiders. Back on the Peter King podcast, happy to be joined out in Napa, California with Jordy Nelson of the Oakland Raiders and Jordi were here as training camp closes for the raiders and I know you've had some time to get used to it, but it sure looks weird to see you in silver and black. How long did it take you to adjust to that? It took about a day or two, obviously walking into a new building, seeing the jerseys. I think there's a little step of working out in the silver and black. And then when we finally got into OTA's and putting a helmet on his stuff like that, so. But I, I mean, once about a day for each item and once we got into football became football again and just playing with some new guys. You've been fortunate in my opinion anyway. When you look back at your football career, if you play for two franchises and it's the Green Bay Packers in the Oakland Raiders. Part of me when I saw you sign with Oakland, I said, well, maybe he's unhappy that he's not enough. Green Bay anymore. But wow, if you retire, having played for Fred bulletin coughs team, cliff branches team, James Lofton's team as well as all the great history in Green Bay. How does that hit you. I thought about once I did sign to be part of the two historic organizations in this league, you know date back to the beginning of the NFL and you know to organizations that are about winning and first and foremost. So it's one of those things that I learned quickly in Green Bay. You can win there and make history like we didn't do ten, you'll forever be remembered in hopefully we can win some games here and see if we can make some history as well. Can you just take my listeners into what it feels like to have been such an integral part of one team for so long and to be, you know, the key guy with Aaron Rodgers, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, and then you wake up one morning and you find out maybe they really don't want me what, what is that feeling? Like? It's a feeling of shock probably and surprise. So you know, there's rumors going on and. I think there's a little truth to every rumor or, but it's one of those things that when you never really got far down the road with them in talking about a restructure, right? No, it was pretty blunt that it was either be released or there was no restructure was a pay cut to close the league minimum. So. But so I mean, at the end of that honesty made it easier decision. You felt when I had the meeting, you know, you feel personally that the new GM. So once that happened and you realize necessarily didn't really want you around anymore, so made the decision easy so, but we're excited to be out in California thankful for the opportunity to be out here in the way coach Gruden in his staff approached me mentally after the news broke and dwell connect with Derek when I was out on my visit and getting a feel for him and understanding that this would be a place that would work for myself and my family. It's gotta be hard to realize that you had such a. Great thing with Aaron Rodgers and you're leaving, and he still gonna play a few more years and you're going to just to a new quarterback. Tell me what that is like and what it's been like to work with Derek after working with Aaron. You know, it's a new challenge and to thank will come in here and be on the same level of Aaron and I were isn't going to happen. I mean, you can't make up ten years and four months. We're gonna do our best to to get to that level of soon as possible, but there's a lot of history there, you know, over ten years, so, but to be able to work with one of the best quarterbacks again as as an honor, a blessing, especially as a receiver, and we'll just continue to grind it out..

"Welcome to the peter king podcast where i am joined by some of the biggest influencers in pro football and a few people and other walks of life boy enjoy having conversations with this week a new author dan pfeiffer the former white house communications director he'll join me he's got a new book out it's called yes we still can politics in the age of obama twitter and trump i read this book over the weekend really enjoyed it lot of lessons about things other than just politics and we'll also be joined by dion sanders now this is going to be a little bit of a different dion sanders interview because i interviewed dion at the super bowl and i've been saving this because the vast majority of this interview is about baseball and i want you to understand if you're young or if you forget a little bit that a quarter century ago dion sanders was lebron james dion sanders was starting in the world series and he was also the best cornerback in pro football so we'll get to dion about a lot of things but mainly about baseball but i just a couple of things my last podcast until we get close to the start of nfl training camps you know i am i'm struck by a couple of things about pro football and one is that the national anthem controversy just simply won't die every time i turn on the radio turn on twitter turn on whatever i hear something new about the national anthem controversy and you know it's it's odd when the nfl owners thought that they were basically being done with this when they voted on it recently the nfl meetings they thought okay look this might not be the most popular thing to do but this is what we're going to do this thing is not going away it's not gonna die donald trump is going to keep bringing it up players are going to keep bringing up this is going to be a gigantic headache at the start of training camp when people come back and really start thinking and talking about football again number two the state of andrew luck so so i've gotten to know chris ballard the general manager of the indianapolis colts quite well and every time i talk to them i always manage to slip in so what's the story with luck these days and i've been i've asked him that question five times in the last year or so and ever since he was you know taking put on injured reserve for the year in the two thousand seventeen season and basically taken off the field and enforced absence the colts have been massively confident that this was the right way and he's going to be fine and it seems now that he started to throw the football again and we still don't know how he's gonna react to the wear and tear of getting hit around but now that he's throwing the football again i'm cautiously optimistic that the colts are right and that andrew luck is going to resume the promise that he showed in his first three years in the nfl when he was a huge huge star and probably the best player to come into the league in the last ten years personally i'm really hoping for the guy he's a really really interesting human being is a voracious reader like so many things outside of football but he desperately wants to come back and be the best quarterback in football we'll see starting in a month when the colts.
