I just love listening to him just give you the straight facts about how negotiations happen and what's going on between player and front office management and things of that nature and you talked about Lamar and Rodgers in the jets talking and he talked about what the bears are going to do with the first overall pick. What he would do with the first overall pick. And if you missed that or our number one with Daniel Jeremiah, my buddy from the NFL media group, reviewing what happened at the combine and what he thinks is going to come from a combine. Stay tuned. We re air right away right here on the Roku channel. Channel two ten. And we re air until we're on the air, the very next day. There's our podcast as well cumulus podcast network so you can get our three hours of our show and we chop up a good portion of it and put it on our YouTube page YouTube dot com slash Richards show. Ran into this man at the combine as well. He is a fixture. There as well as at all big time events for the National Football League. That's part of the reason why he's in the pro football Hall of Fame in that wing. He is from NBC sports and the football morning in America scribe Peter king back here on the show. How you doing PK? Rich. Good to be on with a good to see you in Indianapolis. Thank you right back at you. What is going on between the jets and Rogers? It seems like if the Genie is now out of the Green Bay bottle, that this is going to happen to me. What do you think? Peter? Well, I don't know. As someone at the combine said to me, a very good friend of one of the three decision makers in the jets organization. His very good friend has not returned his call in two months. And he knows why. Because they are hunkered down and they're not going to talk about what they're doing until they do it. My feeling as is your feeling rich is that obviously they want Aaron Rodgers, a number of things could be happening right now. A, they could be convincing Rogers that it's really probably the only place he can go. He's not going well, I shouldn't say he's not. But he's almost he's very unlikely to go to Vegas. I have not heard and I talked to all of the usual suspects in Indianapolis, I found nobody else who's really chasing after Aaron Rodgers because people don't want a short term solution. Now, Carolina doesn't want to short term solution. Indianapolis has had nothing but short term solutions. So they don't want that. So the jets really plus the Jets have a top 5 defense in football. It really is a very good place for Rogers to go. But again, does he want to play, does he want to play for the jets? Does he want to play somewhere else? I'm of the opinion rich that Jordan Rogers and our Jordan love and Aaron Rodgers, one of them is not going to be on the Green Bay Packers this year. And I think the packers would prefer that it be Rogers who goes just like it was 15 years ago this week. Literally. Unbelievable. That Brett Favre left the Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers was annoying it as a starter. But again, I wish I had great insight information to tell you, I just simply don't. I hear you. And I appreciate you saying that. But you read the room and for Rogers to be given permission to talk to the jets, speaks volumes as far as I'm concerned, and one thing I want to pick pick up that you dropped is why not the Raiders? I know raiders fans sit there and think, hey, Rogers coming out here and throwing it avante Adams. Let's run that back. And figure out how to make sure Josh Jacobs, who's franchise tag and Darren Waller. And everyone else that they have under contract and stay there and run that back because you look at the division and it's mahomes sitting astride it and Herbert and Russell Wilson now, one would think going to be vastly improved with Sean Payton. That's a deep, deep end of the pool that they need to one would think splash in with Aaron Rodgers. Why not? Why not the Raiders? You know, you're right about that ridge, but I think there's two things number one there are a lot of people around the league who think that Mark Davis simply does not want or can't. Basically get into the business of throwing an extra $60 million at Aaron Rodgers. However, they would do that contract this year. Now, the Raiders do have per over the cap, about 31 million in what's called effective capital, which is the more realistic number that they can spend. And so they probably have the money to finagle and to do things. But the problem with the Raiders is the Raiders have a lot of holes. And the Raiders I don't believe want to buy a one or two year band aid, even if it meant that it would be great for them this year. I think the Raiders want to get a quarterback if they want to get a quarterback who is somewhere between financially manageable like theoretically Jimmy Garoppolo would be in the I'm guessing based on the last two days because of the last two quarterbacks who have signed somewhere in the 30 to $35 million range. I would think Garoppolo would be and is somewhere between that. And drafting a young quarterback in developing him.

"And Patrick Mahomes, one of the things he knows is that if each ever comes to him and says, we need to redo your contract to create cap space or to do whatever. He'll do it. And I think hertz would do the same thing. Last one for you, Peter king. The story I know and I appreciate you calling in getting through this. Last one for you. What do you got for me on the storyline of the off season? What do you think? As we turn the page, the story will be fill in that blank for me. I think the biggest story in the off season is going to be what happens with Lamar Jackson. And I think there's a legitimate chance that, I mean, rich, let's say you as a lifelong fan of the New York Jets, you know that when woody Johnson comes out after the season and says, says, internally quietly, however, he says it. We're going to address the quarterback situation. Well, we all think and I think you think that the number one step would be air and Rogers. If that doesn't work, could the number two step be Lamar Jackson? And this is going to be one of the toughest decisions of franchise in my opinion has had in recent years. For a very simple reason, obviously anybody would want Lamar Jackson to be the quarterback of the team. But how much guaranteed money are you willing to give a player? Who in the last two years has missed 34% of the snaps because of injury. The easy to sit here and say, oh, get Lamar signed Lamar, pay Lamar. Well, that's, of course, but what does that mean exactly? So to me, I think the jets are going to have a very tough decision on their hands. And I think they will go after Rogers if he does play. And if they don't get them, I think they will at least put their sniffers out and seriously consider Lamar Jackson and if as you think and I mean, I think you think this, that he's probably going to be given the franchise tag and the less restrictive one so to see if there are any offers out there that the ravens then would be able to get two first round picks as compensation, you know, let's see what happens with to me, I think finding out whether some team out there is willing to pay Lamar Jackson a jillion dollars, guaranteed, I think that is the story of the off season. And then the Aaron Rodgers is the first domino to fall there because look, I'm sure the jets are enamored by what Nathaniel Hackett can bring to the equation. It can't be lost on him that relationship he has with Rogers when they hire him. If they don't get Rogers, great, they still have a guy who they love, who they think can either turn Zach Wilson around or whatever quarterback they get. But that relationship has got to come for something. Don't you think? The quarterback, you know what, rich, the quarterback market is going to be really a lot of fun because I think that general perception general. And it's early. I mean the draft is ten weeks away, but the general perception is that there is not a no doubt guy in this draft. There are three really good guys in this draft. But there's not an absolutely no doubt guys. So does that mean that Lamar Jackson will be worse more? Does that mean that Baker Mayfield might get a starting job somewhere? And what does that how does Aaron Rodgers impact that? I mean, could Jordan love be Aaron Rodgers circa 2008 and 15 years later, history repeats itself with a quarterback drafted in the 20s who gets the starting job in his fourth year. I mean, there's a lot of real fascinating stories revolving around that position. And I guess I lied just in whatever 62nd you want to wrap it up. Derek Carr's market. It now exists, what's the timetable there do you think? Quick? Fast? What do you think? Well, if I were him, and if I were his agents, what I would be saying is, we have the floor all to ourselves. Right now. And I think the one thing rich, if I were them, I would wait for, as I would wait for the white puff of smoke out of the Aaron Rodgers chimney because if Aaron Rodgers says either I'm not retiring or I'm going to green, I'm going back to Green Bay or whatever it is. Whatever he does after that is known, then there's going to be a lot of clarity as to what cars market is. And I just really think, at the end of the day, I think the saints even though they're in really bad shape capitalize. I think the saints should really try hard to figure out how to get Derek Carr. Because that is a win now offense with a defense that's good enough. Peter, thanks again greatly appreciate a great job. I appreciate you soldiering through it with your voice and let's chat again soon. And I'll see you in indie. Sounds great, rich. Appreciate it. The best Peter king right here, check it out. 8 four four two O four rich number to doubt so much to pull on right there. The quarterback market, the draft market, the Derek Carr market. But when we come back, we turn the light on our darkness coverage. When we come back right here in the rich eisenhow.

"It used to be people in the off season of football even me during the season did other things. Covered golf. Covered baseball, some covered whatever, but now I told fiction bomb this. I said, now you have two and a half guys covering the Indianapolis Colts every day of the year. And I'm bob Kravitz is the columnist. He's the, I said, but you have two guys who cover the Indianapolis Colts every day of their lives. And I don't know. It really has gotten crazy, but anyway. Did you know, did you know, by the way, that the 1984 Cincinnati Bengals, according to 5 38, are the most average team in professional sports history? You know that you covered the most average team. And not just NFL history, like they did all these data points. On everything and they were the most average and professional sports team in history. That's wild. I had no idea, obviously, but I'll tell you one thing that was one great team to cover because the rising star quarterback was boomer, collinsworth was a wide receiver, Anthony munoz, nicest guy in the planet and the greatest player in Bengals history was the left tackle, Sam white was the coach. I mean, this is the one of the greatest stories ever in my pro football rating career is that two weeks into the job was the NFL Draft. And Sam white had me into his office the day before the draft. And he quite literally told me everybody who they were going to pick. And I only missed on two or three of them, but I wrote on the day of the draft. I wrote everyone who they were going to pick. And it all turned out to be right. And I sports edit afterwards, man. You're a shaman. You're unbelievable. Yeah. Yeah, I told him that I told him how unbelievable it was that the head coach called me into the office and said, write these names down. So I didn't know about the average thing, but it wouldn't surprise me. They weren't too good. They weren't too bad either, though. That's right. That's the point. Yeah. You ever feel like when you're at work, everything you say sounds like this because you're completely unstimulated and you don't care. But then when you're talking to your friends about things you're truly interested in and passionate about, you sound like you're alive and loving every moment of it. All right, Peter king, it is time for more than four, but fewer than 6 questions. Shelby, please put three hours up on the clock and Connor. Why don't you take odds this week? I'll take evens. Okay, sounds good. So Peter first category here is history. And the question is, who has more postseason victories? Sam Weiss? With the Bengals or Bill Parcells with every single team that he coached, saved for the Giants, so not the Giants, but all of Bill Parcells other teams combined. CMH, right? It's 5 to three. That is correct. Heart cells always Parcells always had those issues, remember? He was the victim of the Tony Romo fumbled snap. You know that and they were going to win that game in Seattle. That's what made him quit coaching, basically. But yeah, hey, you know what? The Bengals had some good days. You know, with white. He was a nut job. He was kind of a brilliant nut job, but I liked him. He told me one time early in that first year, he said, I will have your effing job. And he called my sports editor and screamed at him to take me off the beat and I showed up the next day and he acted like nothing ever happened. But anyway, that was, that'll be a good chapter in the book. Question number two, this is spelling. With proper capitalization, your word is Kiki. Capital K, I capital K, I capital D, E, capital a, Y, ALA. That is we're going to give it to you. Most places have the second K lower case. Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. That's pretty good, I did. I'll take the loss on that one, give me the loss. We'll give you half credit. How about that? All right, good. So now I got one and a half out of two. One and a half. Last one's a Moneyball, by the way. So you get two for the last one. But I had to look up Kiki diet. What does that Kiki? Wow. Former Houston gambler, Cincinnati Bengal. Do you know he now owns a real estate development company in rockport Texas? I did not know that. Wikipedia is an incredible thing. Okay, category number three, geography..

"In some way by deshaun Watson, I think that if I were the NFL, this would matter to me. And again, because it's hard to predict now, you know, there are some people who've told me, Gary, that once this judge issues her ruling on this, that Watson may just take it. And the browns may urge him to just take it because you would think it wouldn't get any lighter going to Roger Goodell. Yeah. You know, because Roger Goodell can essentially say, we set this system up for a reason. You know, to have a neutral party do this. The one thing I'm unclear on if it's appealed to Roger Goodell and they're trying to get the sanction lessened if they appeal to Roger Goodell could Goodell actually make it worse. And that's something I don't know. The NFL has been really has been really quiet about this and about the process. I think because they want to be seen as having an open mind on this. So Peter, I mean, I know you, it's funny. You profiled Roger Goodell and I actually talked about that on another podcast around the NFL podcast recently. I still remember your story on Roger Goodell Wright and breaking up the bar fight, right? It wasn't he wasn't he like a bar backing somewhere and like broke up some sort of massive dust up or something. There was a bar fight when he worked at a bar in college and a guy had a gun and Goodell the owner of the bar told me this story said Goodell got this guy to go home. You know, he said we don't we can't have any trouble here. You know, I'm paraphrasing. And he got this hothead to go home and take his gun home. And look, I think I think Roger Goodell sees himself as in some ways as a peacemaker in some ways as a conciliatory type guy. Probably, I think, I think people in and around the league would see that as maybe he's really trying to do that a little bit more now, having learned in some of his other disciplinary ventures like with ray rice. I think he would, I think what he wants to do is he wants to be respectful to the women. But he also wants to be fair to the Cleveland Browns. So I think this is going to be a very tough call if Goodell has to end up hearing an appeal on this. And it's going to be a tough call because I happen to think that this is one of the worst decisions I've ever seen in owner make in all the years I've covered the NFL. And that is Jimmy haslam in D haslam. Giving the biggest guaranteed contract in the history of the league to a guy with 22 swords of damocles hanging over his head. The civil lawsuits. Now it's 23. I find it bizarre and it's not just, it's not just haslam. And it's not just involving the Cleveland Browns. This is going to have tentacles into what the Chargers do with Justin Herbert and obviously with the Bengals do with Joe burrow. And the reason I mention those two is that Mike Brown can not give, I shouldn't say can not give. I think it probably be difficult for him to find the money to guarantee that contract too because for people who don't know this. When you guarantee a contract in the NFL, you have to take virtually all of the money that you're guaranteeing and put it in escrow. So Mike Brown is going to have to dig up and it's a weird formula that doesn't involve the first year of the contract. So let's just say that Mike Brown, you know, in signing Joe burrow would have to find a $175 million. This is a family owned business. I'm not saying they don't have a 175 million if they absolutely had to raise it. They probably could come up with it. I don't know. But it's almost the same thing, you know, with the spanos family. Even though there is some outside business with the spanos family, that's basically a football business. So that contract, the reason that I reported this going into the league meetings, there were a lot of people very unhappy with the haslams. And I think they still are because that contract is going to reverberate around the league. But again, as far as what will happen with the league's penalty toward them, I think it could go in a lot of different ways. And one of the ways, I think the common sense why Mike florio wrote about this and makes all the sense in the world to me is you give him one penalty for this season, like you say, okay, 6 games. You're out for the first 6 games. And then if he ends up having to pay 50 million to his victims, he loses the civil suit or whatever, whatever the number is. So in other words, admitting some sort of guilt, you know, could the NFL come back next year and say, well, wait a second. You know, you've now admitted what you didn't admit a year ago, so could they give them a few more games in 2023? I don't know, but I think there's a lot of different possibilities on the table in the penalty to be given to deshaun Watson. Do you think that there's a chance? I mean, I think that we've all heard, you know, there was always those discussions about when the Patriots were really good and there was pressure on roger allegedly to come down on them for things like the deflated football. Issue or whatever it was, do you feel like owner anger is collective and serious enough that they're in roger's ear being like, hey, you gotta bury these guys with this thing. I doubt it. Because you can't penalize a team over the size of a contract, they give a player. That can't be a part of this. They may hate it, but that can't be a part of this deal. I don't think they're doing that. But as if there are some owners who were saying, we have got to take a stand on this behavior. And we can't let deshaun Watson skate on this, no matter how valuable he is to the browns. I could see them saying that. But I can't see them involving the.

"Example. You know, New Orleans was willing to take a shot and talk about deshaun Watson. I mean, there are some markets where the team is king in New Orleans in the saints we trust. So that's why I think it was a good thing for Colin Kaepernick that he worked out for the Raiders and essentially they the world did not fall down. I'll add one more like semi annoying follow-up to that. Do you think that there are the teams that you say that are king in their market? Do they know that? Or do you think that every team thinks that their king and operates that way? Or do you think that there are, like you mentioned New Orleans, right? Do you think that there are a few teams that have that real sense of I'm infallible? I can't miss on somebody. It doesn't really matter what I do. Well, I mean, we could probably count them up. How many markets could probably make a decision like this without really caring all that much? New England could make a decision like that. New Orleans could. But there are a lot of there are a lot of markets that can't do that because either because of a heavy military presence in their fan base and it seems like a lot of people in the military just can't get over this Kaepernick stuff. But I do think that there are a lot of places that are fine with sort of seeding social control to the team. And saying, if you guys want to do this, we trust you. Now, I almost said Pittsburgh. But I think that, and I'm not saying that Pittsburgh wouldn't do it. And I do think there's a lot of in the Steelers we trust. But I question based on because my wife's from Pittsburgh, I know the area. I think there would be a lot of people who would come out and say, we don't want Kaepernick under any circumstances. But you ask a question about the most teams know that I think most teams like to think they know that, but I'm really not sure that they do. I think Vegas is a perfect example of a market that could do it because right now Vegas is basically just euphoric that the Raiders are there. Well, if you think about this, Gary, I was just writing something about this for my column on Monday. I think the leader in the Clubhouse by a lot is a guy named rob Walton. He's one of the Walton heirs, and I found it hilarious Forbes in their ranking of the richest people in America. Had him 13th as of January 22, and the hilarious wars like 66 million. Or 66 billion, excuse me. And they said that because of the quasi cratering of Walton stock in the economic downturn, he's now worth about 60 billion. So poor guy, but anyway, it's this guy, I think rob wall eats 77 years old and no one knows anything about him, really. And he is likely to be the winner of this sweepstakes for the Broncos. And really, I think the only thing that it means is that in the spell of four years. Think about that. In the span of four years, an average to good NFL franchise, which I would say the Broncos are now. Now sells for double what it did in 2018. Think about it. The Panthers, 2.275 in 2018, and now give or take..

"The opposing defensive head coach. And i'm telling you. I'm not sure there's a guy that i've heard him rave about more. When preparing for his defenses then vic fangio and it was the same. Way with with mike zimmer even going back to when they played the few times in cincinnati so those defensive head coaches i think is an underrated aspect of where he could end up because he has so much respect for. Those guys wants to be part of a team. That has a great defense which let's face it. They have not had here in green bates. The the super bowl season two thousand ten. Their defense was good. But it wasn't great until the play-offs every one of those playoff games they had key defensive plays right down to the super bowl in clay matthews punches that fumble out the fourth quarter then. They salt the game away. So those places you know with those kinds of defensive-minded head coaches might be a better fit than people would think rob. What do you think would have happened on july first. If sony pictures had called aaron rodgers in david done his agent and said we want to offer aaron a three year contract to host jeopardy. I think his first response for to been. How can i do this and still play football. Because i really think deep down and he essentially has admitted this much to us in his time that since he's been back that ultimately has competitive juices and you know when he when he talked to guys like randall cobb and and jordy nelson and charles woodson those guys that either our app toward the end of their career. Like randall is or have gotten out like georgie. And charles have those are his really close close friends and he said when i talked to those guys man and just you know it got my juices going so i think he would have tried to do. Both whether jeopardy would have gone for it. I don't know if jeopardy would have said no. You have to make a decision. It's our podium or the packers podium which one is it I'm not sure it's very interesting. He's just a. I mean he's such a different guy such a fascinating guy. In my opinion one last thing. America must know. How did you become bob democracy. This goes back to a couple of many years ago if it was three. Five seven years ago at his locker were used to. Do you know his wednesday meeting with us. Before the pandemic. He mentioned something that i had written. But he said and kinda tongue-in-cheek. He reads everything he said. Something like well and bob growth. This and i was thinking about mcginn. Like did he mean pop again and i went up to him and afterwards that i said we're talking about again or me and he goes nope you bobby and i think i probably said i think i probably said man i do. I hate being called. Bob like i am my full name. Obviously is robert. But i am always been a rob. I hate being called bob at ever since it was the wrong thing for me to tell them if i would have never said that he probably would've never brought it up and instead it has become this thing in there was period. Be honest with you. There was a short time. I wasn't sure if he was doing it because he didn't like me. And at one point he came up to me and a couple years ago and said. Hey i i'll stop if you want and i'm like no it's fine but yes The fans on twitter. I think had taken it as like You know whenever they want. They'll say way to go. Bob like they think it's a negative thing. I don't take it that way. But i will say i. I wasn't sure it was talking about me or or good buddy by again. You know very well. Yeah you know. I i'm gonna end with this that i'm i'm just so curious about because i've spent so much time in green bay over the years i love. The state of wisconsin loves spotted cow. Love miller park It's just. I always feel great when i go to. Wisconsin is just It's just a cool cool spot but after that game on sunday my first reaction is how many people are just going absolutely bat crap crazy right now at the result of this game..

"Any significant physical restrictions or limitations. Apparently in fantastic shape in a different way than brady. I don't know what is eating patterns are but brady obviously was an unrestricted free agent at age in his age forty three season. And so i look at this. And i say aaron rodgers may say hey look i'll hang around for two years and then i will get to pick wherever it is. I wanna go. That's all options of those two options. What do you think is most likely. I still think it's most likely that this is his last year. But i think you make a great point because look if they trade him the app they may have this handshake deal which i believe that they do that. They will you know if he wants out. After this year they will grant it but they're not going to trade him to an nfc team no way. I'll take you back and you may know the story ready. But in the summer of two thousand eight when bread fire when they came to the agreement that they were gonna trade a ted thompson went to brat and said look. I've got to deal with tampa. I've got to deal with the jets. Where do you wanna go read said tampa. So they sent them to the jets. Okay so rogers knows that he knows the dads limit can go so if indeed you know. He doesn't want to go to. We'll say denver or pittsburgh. Big ben is done there and he really wants to go to. You know the bears will just. I doubt it but we'll say let's say he really wants to go there and stick it to these guys. Just like bread did but he went to minnesota. Then that is his only option. And that's the play out through two thousand twenty two and become a free agent in which the packers would get. What a third round compensatory pick forum. I'm guessing the day would probably rather get whatever the hall they could get. You know next january february rather than just you know saying by for compensatory third round pick in two thousand twenty three. You mentioned two really good teams. I've i've thought for a while. You know pro. Football focus in the off season rated every fifty three not not i mean like maybe a month or so ago rated every teams full roster one to fifty three in the nfl and when they did that the one the one team that just jumped off the page to me is they. Add the denver broncos at ten now. The question is if the packers were to send aaron rodgers to denver you know would would the broncos have to give up such such significant pieces that maybe they're not that really great team. Suppose that the packers. Say we want jerry judy in once you're next two ones or they're i don't know right. What are their ads. So three one. Exactly but i. That's but but that is the team to me that that if aaron rodgers. i'm looking at longingly. you mentioned the steelers. The steelers would be really really interesting. And look i think. Mike tomlin aaron rodgers. Everybody said what a weird match that would be. No wouldn't because mike tomlin is in his own stern way a malleable person. How do you deal with antonio brown and get the best out of him for so long. When antonio brown was such a screw up so often in pittsburgh and so mike tomlin will have no problem dealing with an iconoclastic. Interesting person as aaron rodgers did so. Those are the two teams. I think would be a barrel of fun for him to go to and one thing to keep in mind. Peter everyone says well. If you have aaron rodgers you have to have an offensive head coach. And that's why the packers hired matt leflore at that stage of his career. Not so much second of all if you listen to aaron rodgers talk weaken and week out on wednesdays when he's preparing for teams he's always talking about the opposing defensive coordinator or if it's defensive coach..

"When i hung up the phone with him that day i said to myself. Wow this is going to be his last year in green bay now about a week or two later adam. Schefter drops his incredible report. That rogers basically confirmed everything when he stood up there the first day of training camp and detailed ball of his grievances. But i just remember hanging up the phone with rogers on that day in early april just thinking to myself. This is gonna be it this. This 2021 season is it was more. I guess you know peter when you talk to guys. It's more how they sound rather than what exactly they say and to me. That was the feeling i got. When i got done talking to a met day is that he knows and he either. A is resigned to that or be once at that way. And i'm not sure which is exactly the way it may be both. It may be that. He's resigned to knowing that. The packers are in a big salary cap problem next year. And then brian good accuse drafted jordan love and then he wants to turn things over and it might be that. Aaron rodgers is ready to say look. I saw tom brady did he. Basically was able to get his group together and go win the super bowl somewhere else. And rogers may want to try that as well so it could be one the other or some combination of what interests me about roger situation is that next year. He which i reported. You probably have reported the same thing next year. He has the right to request a trade and my understanding is the packers then would have to trade him And he will have some say. I don't know how much say. But he'll have some say as to where he can go. It's but if he if he chooses to stay with the packers in twenty twenty two and to play out the final year of this contract then he could be an unrestricted free agent in march twenty. Twenty three at the age of thirty nine. And what's interesting about that if that would be. His choice is that he would be an unrestricted free agent at the age of thirty nine without as of right now anyway..

"Wonder is that i mean clearly you. Dairy as smith is not in optimum of optimum fitness right. Now i wonder. Is there anything that is a warning sign for this defense. Going forward peter. The warning sign was in january when they hire joe berry his previous track record is a defensive coordinator. Two years in detroit is defense is finished thirty. Two thirty two two years in washington is defense. Finished twenty eighth twenty eight now. You look at the talent that they had in those places. Nowhere near what they have here with. Scenario smith with preston smith with gyro zander. Maybe one of the best corners in the league that they have a playmaker at pretty much every level. Kenny clark over. The better nose tackles in the league. So joe berry's certainly has a lot more talent to work with plus matlin floor hired for what one reason because he worked with the brand staley which is the vic fangio defense. But i'll tell you what it didn't look a whole lot different from the dom capers three four and then the mike patton three four after that and to me. That's you know the the question mark again was joel berry going to be any better than joe berry was in previous places and isn't going to be any better than capers pet more and at this point again one game. It's not slip. The panic switch but at this point the answer is no no difference that we've seen in our remaining time rob. Let's spend a couple of minutes of bow on. Rogers an-and rogers future my impression after spending just a few minutes with them in august is that he is going to be open to whatever happens in the future. We'll see what happens that he hasn't made any firm decision. Who knows where he's leaning. I'm sure he has some lean but that he is going to spend this year basically with his feet on the ground where he is. He's not going to be thinking about twenty twenty two or at the very least he's not going to talk about what he's thinking about in twenty twenty two. What do you get. You know better than almost anybody in the media right now. So what re do you get on rogers both this year and going forward inner. I'll take it back to a conversation. I had with him in early. April was right. As his jeopardy guest host stint was was happening and we spoke for about twenty five minutes about that and then for about five minutes. We sort of talked around the idea of no. Why didn't they do anything with his contract this offseason. Why didn't they do anything with his contract when he was marching his way to another. Mvp last year. When i hung up the phone with him that day i said to myself. Wow this is going to be his last year in green bay now about a week or two later adam. Schefter.

"Snap him a perfect snap. He drops it ends up. Getting snowed under kevin's too fancy coach said hey he should have still tried to punt the ball when he picked it up and on reply went back and looked at it and i said yeah he probably should have. That happens and then unfortunate interception for baker mayfield. That wasn't entirely his fault but he threw it. He's got to take responsibility for it. So those two plays cleveland at the end of this game was not ready for prime time. But i still like the browns out of this game peter in the first half my super bowl pick look pretty good. I was the only steelers feel this week. Walk into their facility. I'm like i can do this. I can make a good super bowl prediction then. The second half happened with those mistakes. Here's what stands out to me about cleveland. Baker mayfield right now a little while ago. I talked about lamar jackson and how he's being held to a very high standard that he created for himself with his own individual success in the team's success that he's only gonna have good season if you can picture him and if he does succeed in january and february. It's been a much more accelerated track for baker mayfield in cleveland. These last few months but if they can't win at kansas city then this season is going to be kind of a failure for them based off the expectation so they were wonderful for most of the game first-half especially but when it came down to their ultimate litmus test. Can you win in. Arrowhead can baker mayfield. Get the best of patrick mahomes the answer. It's harsh but the answer is no and that's why that team still has a ways to go because they're trying to beat the very best team in the afc..

"He got one of the assistant equipment managers to go out before and after every practice and during training camp. And now he's continuing into the season working on different drills. Not only the jugs machine but in catching tennis balls one handed. And if you see this if you see his touchdown in this game he's closely covered in the left corner of the end zone and the steelers need this play. They need this score to make their offense. Come alive levi. Wallace tips the ball. And at that moment instead of just sort of giving up on the ball you could see that deontay johnson extended both arms and somehow some way came up with the ball and dragged one foot to make sure that he stayed in bounds to me. It was one of the great plays of week one of this season and it was made by guy who spent all of last year in the doghouse because of all his drops going a little more macro on that win. Peter and i. I know i spent a lot of time around college football. I don't wanna make to collegiate. But that was a meaningful type of win for the steelers. Not just getting off to one star but many people the big bad steelers picking pittsburgh to finish bottom half of the afc north. You go to the team. That's very popular pick for very good reason to represent the afc in the super bowl and you come from behind and do that with that kind of second half. I mean that's that's not your ordinary win. I know these are grownups. These are professionals who are paid to win every sunday. But i have to think that they walk back into that facility this week with a different kind of feel different kinds of confidence then a lot of the other teams who are also wanna know agree totally and and it was really an interesting week for the afc north bengals with unlikely win over the vikings. And you know it really stuck out to me is look. Cleveland is a very good team. Cleveland is a top ten team in the nfl right now. But in the last twelve minutes of their game against the kansas city chiefs they went from maybe not controlling the game total but but being in the lead and having a good chance to win and then two plays happen. The punter drops an incredibly easy..

"Have both battled injuries in recent years. And so we'll see. But i i didn't really have the agonize. I think on paper today if washington plays dallas washington's. Got a heck of a chance to win the game but you know if dak prescott stays upright. I liked dallas. Okay so you're you're pick to make it through for the nfc. The rams and i'm a little bit predictable here. Peter with my pick if think back to what i said about the. Afc went with cleveland. I kind of follow the same template with okay. I'm not gonna pick the buccaneers because it's easy. It's hard to find anything wrong with them so let. Let's let's go a little bit different route. And i thought okay. What quarterback do i like the most who seems to have a wonderful relationship. Playcalling standpoint with his head coach or play caller. Whose defense do i think is wasn't a huge problem last year but looks like it's quite a bit better this year and checking the box with all of those for me the green bay packers and i i know david. Tr he's not there and how valuable he is that team but he'll be back eventually banned he'll be back exactly and they have the benefit of play in the nfc north which they ought to be able to figure things out before he gets back and stayed with their heads above water and get to the point where he is he has returned and they're playing their best so i like green bay to make it all the way to la in the super bowl. I think it's a really good in logical pick and keep this in mind k. Wherever the green bay packers have put elton jenkins since drafting and what three years ago. He's done nothing but be a stunned. He's been great all over that line. And i'll tell you when i went to green bay. I'll just tell you this right now. Matlin flurries is not worried about left. Tackle it's not. He's not being cocky. Just not worried. He thinks elton jenkins is gonna play well out there and he'll play until bark the comes back. I'll tell you this you name any contender right now. Who's going to be without their left tackle for the first six or eight weeks and you just tell me one of them. Who can plug in. A guy is good as elton jenkins in that spot and there isn't one there isn't one. If the rams lose andrew whitworth thirty nine year old andrew whitworth they gonna play joe note boom out there and joe. Boom is a nice You don't swing tackle. Bees not a great wire so anyway i think you're okay. Look my super bowl pick. I'm picking the rams over buffalo high scoring game and it'll be the second year in a row or a team has won the super bowl on their home field after the first fifty four times that there ever was a super bowl. It never happened. So that's my pig my father the stats. Professors rolled over in his grave. Peter who calling unlikely while smiling at the same time. I'm sure i like. I like the air. Rogers lead packers to go past the baker mayfield. Less brown's in our baker mayfield lead that going to be without and they'll be with him in la okay so that there's a super bowl picks i know. You wanna get to some mvp picks. There's no lie team but we don't want to leave out the individuals here either. So who do you have getting. Alan look i pick my top three for. Mvp is one. Matthew stafford to josh allen three. Tom brady In my opinion. I think stafford if he stays healthy In his receivers stay healthy. He's got a chance to have the first six thousand yard passing season. Nfl history now. Obviously that'll be helped by the fact that they're seventeen games. But i just think that the chemistry between coach and quarterback is really gonna help that. Gimme year's mvp. I liked tom. Brady just over derrick henry and sometimes you have to talk myself into not going just all quarterback all these things theater so i. I looked outside of cuba. Who i like. And i think tannahill will be really good again. I think they'll win a lot. But if it's possible to lean on the ground game even a little more is figure things out without arthur smith. I can see them going that route. So either guy makes sense to me but i go brady over derrick henry the hard thing when you're trying to pick someone other than most other than a quarterback most valuable player is that the last time i mean there's only been one time since two thousand six that are running back has won. Mvp really yes. So so ladainian tomlinson one and in two thousand six since then so only happened one time in fourteen years and that one time was adrian peterson at twenty twelve. And just keep this one thing in mind remember adrian. Peterson was coming off a tornado. Ceo and other knee damage. Okay and peyton. Manning had a great not a good year a great ear. But excuse me remember. That was the year coming off that serious injury. That adrian peterson for two thousand ninety six yards and it was still a kind of split. Manning got some votes. But that's how hard it is for a non quarterback to win the mvp. So we'll see a great points. And i think it'd be because of how much they're leaning on the passing game now. I did mention him. I could see devante atoms if it's not a quarterback somebody like a receiver who goes crazy for a team. That is the one or two almost more likely for them to be in contention for the mvp as opposed to running back anymore. Let me just run down with a sentence. Each key picks Defensive player of the year i got. T. j. watt over aaron donald I think tj watt really thought. He should have won it last year. He's played great for three years for the steelers. Finally this year is i wrote. He leaves no doubt offensive. and defensive. rookies got. Kyle pits the tight. End with the falcons. Who i think is going to have a monster year and mike parsons. The linebacker with the cowboys. Who i think is going to play. The kind of sideline to sideline game that is going to Make him people are gonna look at the cowboys being instead of the thirtieth best defense whatever they were last year maybe the eighteenth best and the biggest reason is the addition of mike. Parsons my coach of the year. Is sean mcdermott. I think leading the bills to home field in a in a a very very tight race with the chiefs of i think wins him as the coach of the comeback player. I'm picking derwin. James guys played five games last two years after being all pro as a rookie. So i think he. I think he's. I think he had two semi fluky injuries..

"That's the afc where you like the bills. I like the browns. Let's go to the nfc now and just like you did with the afc start with your number one seed in kind of walk us down all the way to number seven the seventeenth. Do you think you're gonna make it. Okay well number one tampa bay. I think they're going to win home. Field in the nfc. They'll take advantage of the fact that basically you've got all three teams in the south every little bit down right now including the saints. Now the saints may not be down And i've got to make the playoffs but they're not what they were So you've got that. And the fact that i think tom brady who always always used The third down back kevin. Fog james white Were so important to what they did is an offense in new england now in my opinion one of the things that he really wanted this off season and he he didn't want he didn't wanna go beg for paul. He didn't want say. Because obviously you sound just a little bit greedy. If you'll say pardon me for. I just screwed up my laptop and pardon me for you. Know in essence saying that You know brady wanted to be really wanted. Another piece of the puzzle on offense but he wanted a third down. Back in. Bruce arians jason light got him one geo bernard of the bengals and they got him for one point. Two million dollars. I think that is a great acquisition for tampa bay number two. I've got green bay a little bit. Not because i think green bay is better than the rams but because i think green bay has much easier road through the nfc north to win that division as an potentially could go six no in the division and. I don't think there's any way the rams are going six in the nfc west. So i like green bay number two i. Aaron rodgers comes in quite as a church mouse off the field He's not going to be able to stop speculation about the future. He won't add to it rams number three. We've talked about it. i just love the matthew stafford combination. When with sean mcveigh number four dallas. This was probably the toughest division pick that i had. Because in my opinion i th i think washington has got a premier defense and has got a deep defense so washington easily could win this division but i think dallas is going to be explosive and fifteen percent better on defense this year than they were last year. So they're gonna have to win a lot of high scoring games. What i think you're going to win enough of them to be the fourth seed in the nfc five six seven. I've got san francisco which it will not surprise me one bit. If san francisco goes far deep into the playoffs. Whether it be jimmy garoppolo or trey lance. They had freaky fluky injuries last year. Early and often That almost ruined their defense and yet they still played really well defensively. So i think san francisco gets in is number five new orleans six. Look we'll see how jameis winston place this is probably more vote for their defense than for their offense. Thank your defense is a rough tough defense. And he's gonna play very very well. Seven seattle all. I know is that russell wilson. Anytime he takes the field. I don't care what the odds are. He's got an excellent chance to win the game and they made the playoffs. What seven of his nine years as a starter and I just i think any year any year seattle can come out of nowhere and really play. Well they have not played well recently in the playoffs. I don't think they're gonna play great this year in the playoffs. Either because of their seven seed. Imagine your road if you've got a win. Let's say in order a green bay tampa bay of the rams you know. How are you going to do that in a span of fifteen days. I doubt you can. But be that as it may they. They they they're always ability and and And i like anyway. I like the rams to go on the road. The playoffs twice to lambo and To raymond james stadium to beat the packers and the bucks The second one of those in a narrow nfc championship game victory So i like the rams to be tampa In the nfc. So we have the rams against the bills in the peter king super bowl Backing up now to your seven. Who made it. Peter in the nfc into the postseason so much different than the afc. Because to me is so much stronger you can pick any one of four five teams and make an argument that they'll be in the super bowl. You could also pick out so many teams that didn't make it and then we talked about the colts. The dolphins the steelers not in they all have a legitimate case to think their playoff seems who who almost made it in the nfc washington's. They're a little bit. But are there some teams that you really had a hard time leading out. Besides washington washington was the toughest one. But i didn't really agonize over anybody else in the nfc. I think chicago You know the offenses just gonna be okay. I think they'll struggle at some point. Turn it over to justin fields arizona. Arizona can get hot. And but you know i don't. I'm not if you rely on the cardinals to win. You have to rely on some defensive players like chandler jones and j. j. watt who are.

"I it's a serious problem in the middle east into. Let's hope that our country does the right thing by israel because it is know they both stood by us and i'm also concerned turkey. I understand is turning on israel to but have you heard anything about that. Well that's been going on for a while now. I mean it's getting worse you know for years. Israel was i'm mean Turkey was a close ally that they straddle the christian and muslim world they partner in nato They were strongly Anti islamist terrorism. They were very very strong. Allies of ours. They work closely with israel but earn on. He is making himself into a virtual dictator in turkey allying himself with extreme islamist elements and I am very concerned about turkey. They were in the last twenty years. They went from being close allies To being shown neutral and now being. I've actually hostile so i know we have to be very very careful. The monitor very carefully and their physicians become increasingly anti israel. And which is really unfortunate. Because turkey as i said. It was a staunch ally. We can count on. They were secular the secular nation and They resisted islamic terrorism. But now they definitely gone in that direction and become a virtual dictator as a former member of homeland security A congress We also you concerned about right now. When china we saw this week and you the one i want aware of it is the colonial pipeline. How they could hack into that. I would never this. Group is in russia. We have to fortify our infrastructure. Much much stronger way. against attacks. I mean you've come out in favour. Which i think is a excellent idea that you really follow up on it. Having side before us This is gonna be the next enemy the next real enemy. Maybe the covered real enemy. I was gonna be Either nations or private or separate a renegade organizations that can use cyber a cyber attacks as a weapon. I mean just think of all damage that was done by going. After this one pipeline. This week i mean. North east was basically writing off the high price of gasoline. Go sky have you pointed out many in the price of gasoline goes everything gets i it is. It's an active for who knows Who controls those terrorists. It's an act of terrorism. And i've said publicly that bitcoins. Congressman of of bribes paid in bitcoin. No again i think that whole thing because that's more regulation of it. Whatever action as we taking. This is something that you want to along. That has to be carefully. Scrutinized carefully watch and action taken if we have to also. I don't think we're gonna rush off the hook here whether or not russia was behind it. This operation apparently works out of russia. And to me you the country responsible if there's a criminal element in your country which is attacking our country. I hold russia responsible for that. Who Will Pick Kyle Pitts in Thursday's NFL Draft?
"All right. Let's have fun here with. Kyle pits blank will select kyle pits right. I think it's the falcons. I mean friscos. Been talking about this for some time. He doesn't think that the falcons are gonna take a quarterback he thinks arthur blank is all in on on matt ryan for another year to have a new coach and the new general manager. And here's the thing like if you trade down four. And i suspect it'll be teams interested in trading up to four to get whether it's trae lance macaroni justin fields. If you're the falcons if you move down if you move down you're not getting cockpits. That's just the end the conversation because either the bengals. The dolphins entertainment five or six and presumably. You're not trading with those teams already have quarterbacks. So that's the math you're doing and if you're not getting likely to march as we saw a report on monday for peter king that maybe julio jones could be moved with which seems crazy what they need a cap space Could you turn down for. Cornerback if the falcons you could but again what gives you more value in terms of making that football team better. I think it's how pet. So if i'm the falcons and i'm not taking justin feels matteo's trae lands i'm sampling. Taking cup pits. Janssen the blank blank. We'll take pets. I think it's it's atlanta. But i also be surprised if the team traded up with the falcons maybe even take pits like ryan saying you know the train up to the quarterback but you know teams fall in love your dallas. You know thousand the four but you know if a team really loves him that much and it's hard not to love that much than you could see. Maybe a team being overly aggressive. I think it was on On the nfl network this morning on good morning football there was a segment that they do with the giants traded up. You know. I don't know who is doing the job. Esau just a screen grab of it on twitter but the giants gave their first or second ebony ingram and something else to move up to four to get pits and it was you know something that on paper make some sense but you know. Obviously something is not likely to happen but still i would say it's four is where he goes. But the falcons do make some sense especially they decided we want from me jonesing. Another playmaker

NFL Playoff Futures: Who will make the 2020 post-season?
"Wanted to talk about playoff odds and not not. Just who's gonna make the playoffs but also the nfc the nfc's a really weird place. The saints are plus three fifty to win this to in the nfc. None of us like the saints even are as good as they looked last week against tampa. There's still this unease with because breezes arm strength. It just makes me nervous. I'm starting to talk myself into the saints. Okay yeah okay so a couple of things number one. Smart people in july and august said wait until brady gets half a season under his belt and they're going to get better you know. No one cares. More about the details. And tom brady doesn't have a training. Camp does not as doesn't put pads on till till august fifteenth. He's gonna get better and better and better and so week one when when the bucks and the saints played. I threw that out. I said this this doesn't matter bracing to get better and better better. This was the closing the gap game for me. And then i didn't see that and obviously they were there whipped everywhere you know. Ali maher pet being out was a big thing with with with with people who started the game. But i think that this was bigger than than alley marquette quite frankly okay The the saints were able to get a four man rush the entire game. Are they able to pressure brady on half of his dropbacks when they had a four man rush. That's really good Since marcus davenport's come back in week five had the most pressures in football pressuring and football There's just something there. The problem at the beginning of the year was that lattimore and marcus williams were bad and those are two pretty good players and i think that you know a good pass rush. Ken console that those guys can get better and so with with brees. Listen there are. There are problems with the fact. You can't throw down the field. The offensive line is not as good as it has been in years hospice and matter with brees because he gets rid of the ball and a second. It's like peyton manning he doesn't need you know the the the best offensive line in the world and then lattimore who we were kind of dunking on because at one point he was giving almost a perfect passer rating. He owns mike evans. He own them. He is not given up a reception. Mike evans the last three games. They've played and so when if those guys play in the playoffs again. There's that match up. So i i don't. I'm feeling better about the saints. Now that i was two three weeks ago. Good coaching staff. I gary coaching staff. Yeah so the fear in this isn't just the saints but the fear is all right. What happens at their downtown in a playoff game. It's basically the lamar jackson corollary. How am i feeling down. Thirteen to three in the second quarter and they've just done a three and out. What were my emotions in that moment. That's my the saints because a breeze. I think that because they don't you don't think they're capable of a big play. Is that your fear if teams though like all right. They've got to air this out. They've got to quicken the pace and also it's amazing to me a cameras probably been the. Mvp think it's either him cook mahomes berry some order Okay i'm amazed at teams aren't just like all right. We're taking him out like bell. Check in his prime your. He got added as kids to the coaching staff and decided to throw a fight street. Drafts fail check All he would do me like chimeras not beating me. You can have everyone else on the saints. I'm not getting beat by that guy. I'm falling everywhere he goes. We're hitting him constantly. He's not beating me. Why don't teams do that with them. I don't get it okay. So first of all they have a of weapons. Thanks so she when michael. Thomas is healthy There's a lot they can do their you know. I think peter king early breakdown. His column this week about there was a play where the bucks dropped eight men into coverage and it was a weird play. They had their fullbacks put out wide and brees hit a random tight end. Adam traveling for a touchdown even throwing into eight men like that. There's just something their breezes still really really good so. I think it's a bit simplistic to say. Just take away kamara because they can do other stuff And they can. They can change their game plan so
