"When this music Trans Siberian orchestra is that the most relaxing thing, But it is kind of what a lot of people do over the holidays. Right? Beautiful, lovely George Best week ever. I love listening to it when I'm just listening and not having to make a point over top of it and listening to you yell as well. I'd also like to point out that you lay out this plan your brilliant idea to save the college football Committee and college football and its own right and created 10 Game playoff field. Then you give me 30 seconds to respond right before you write that the top two seeds would get a bye. So basically it's the 18 playoff and you have to play in games to get into the 18 playoff that that's how the math works, right? You still keep that okay, so that this is 22 playing playing games that get you to an 18 field? That's correct, including 10 teams. Technically, in this playoff scenario, that's correct. We only have two or three teams currently that can contend for a national title right now Viable who could win. And now you want to throw 10 and and just dilute the entire situation. I have a family eyes offend girl. I get to make my point. I get to make my point because you laid out your entire plan for five minutes last segment and give you 30 seconds a lot. Now I can't even think what I was gonna set. We just talked about that, Mikey. See you and I are always on the same side. Do not go to the dark side here. First of all, Mikey, see if she wants to relax. We know what we do here on every Sunday morning here on ESPN Radio, Peter Burns and Katie George played the Masters music. Let her calm down a little bit so she could respond to my 10 team playoff that has five. Our five conference champions. You have the two top group of five teams and then three at large bids so much better..

"Had just a little bit of everything. Kentucky Derby You had authentic, winning it over at 8 to 1. We'll talk about that about how Bob Baffert had not one but two horse is almost get injured. In that race. And yet, once again, he's a winner. We saw winners with the Toronto Raptors beating the Boston Celtics last night. 193 CIA command Ka Lowery. We're both great both, though 2020 and 10 nights you saw the Doug It's even up there. Siri's against the Clippers won 10 toe 101. We're going to figure out if the Bucks can actually get a win against Jimmy Butler's team. The Miami Heat who have been fantastic and in rockets Lakers have. I can't wait for that. We'll discuss that a little bit later here in the show, Peter Burns, Katie George, but college football is back. Katie and it started just it started right College GameDay, even though it didn't come from on location. It was the first week of the season to see Lee Corso. He had like a cut out. Set in his home. That was well done it. You know, we were talking football and then ultimately we got to see it. Kick off. You were there, Marshal 59, not then over eastern Kentucky. I want to ask this about college football returning. There were Marshall fans. There were a lot It looked like in the stands compared to what they were going to be allowed. How How was that process like for college football fans experience in the game yesterday. So Marshall Stadium, the Joan, I think holds around 38,000, and they have decided that they would allow a third of the fans into the stands. Tio abide by social distancing. You'd have up to six in a group. But then there wouldn't be anyone seated next to you for two spots are two seats on either side and no one in front of your behind you and everybody, of course, had to wear a mask and there was no tailgating. But as I drove to site and to the stadium to get ready for my role in the sidelines, I did see there was some rogue tailgaters and family's kind of congregating and grilling out stuff, which You know what if you're staying with in your group I think it's awesome, you know, made me feel like Wow. People are actually getting back to doing normal activities and to your point in your question. I actually had to go up in the stands because I was looking for Grant Wells, his parents because he had such a phenomenal game. That's a redshirt freshmen in his first start, I think he scored on every drive. Had three touchdowns in the first half. I mean, he played phenomenal. So I was on the move, searching for Mom and dad. Well, when I was up in near their seats waiting for them, maybe to come back from the concession stand. A guy came over and he was like, I'm assuming you're waiting for the wells and I was like, Yeah, I am. And he's like I'm just a fan. My dad went to school year early, he said. I don't know if this is worth a report or not, but I just want you to know we as a fan base really appreciate the athletic department fighting as hard as they did to get us in the stands. We feel safe and this was something this community needed. We needed something normal again. And this is the best thing that we've gotten in a really long time and I didn't get to do that. Report on TV. But I thought you know what I get for you for coming over here and at least talking to me because he was like, We just want Marshall to know the athletic department to know We appreciate what they've done for us in this moment, because fans just want to be back in the stands, And at least a third of them were yesterday for the Marshall you game is she's Katie. George. I'm Peter Burns and Katie. Of course you were You were there covering the game? Andi. I think that's important to point out because There was that singing as much as I smiled watching Marshall. I watched Army go on like a 21 play like it seemed like an hour and a half drive in which they just did it. The army way with the triple options going 99 yards and scoring is a defeated middle Tennessee State yesterday. 42 Nothing a watch SM you Texas state. And while I'm watching this game, I'm smiling because I'm going back and forth and my wife looks at me and she goes. It's just got to be tough. I know what it was like deporting. You know what game I should watch? You guys know it's got to be tough if you're an Ohio State fan, Ifyou're Michigan fan, If you're in Oregon fan if you're in Arizona fan right now to know last week, I saw Austin P Play. I saw Central Arkansas play much in eastern Kentucky play football. I'm seeing Marshall fans come up to Katie George in the stands and say We needed this. And yet you're not going to get it that the Pac 12 of the Big 10 aren't playing games. It's gotta sting, right? I mean, I can't imagine what it felt like yesterday to turn on the television and see college football being played with multiple games slated. I can't imagine how bad it's going to feel when the SEC kicks off next Saturday. And then the following weeks when you have the big 12 and SEC joining in the action Ah, oppose it like this. We were talking with the new coaches. I think it's safe to say that Ikea you does not have the same budget that Ohio State or Michigan or Michigan State has in the big 10. And he said, We're doing everything. Coach Walt Wells were doing everything within our means to keep these guys safe. Right now. They're testing their guys once a week for their new independently because they broke away from the O. B C. Now they had to test their kids and their personal three times this week because they played a conference USA opponent and that's the conference. USA Guy guidelines Correct. With the big 10 has the funds. These universities have the funds in revenue to be able to test more than, say, an Ikea. You and Ikea. You feel strongly and players feel strongly enough that they're playing this game safely. As of right now, now I'll be curious to seem Once they all return home and get back and they get tested on Monday. What are those results? Are they still clear? Did anybody contract Corona virus from playing in an actual game against another team? That's what I think we're going to start Finding out. More of this model is gonna work. But at least from the financial burden standpoint, Ikea, you said, we're doing the best we can, but we still feel safe. Under these circumstances. You've got to believe that Ohio State could afford testing guys three times four times a week, every day. If that's what it meant to play college football this fall, you go forward and look at the breakthrough that the Pac 12 had that Larry Scott talked about this week with Quinnell, their their daily testing and it's about a 15 minute and they feel like it's a very accurate Test 90%, plus that they almost using the same type testing protocols that the NFL has been incredible about right. The NFL has looked at this and said, Listen, you need to test every single day and you go back and look at the sheer numbers outside of the false positives that they had. What last week Katie They have just been unbelievable because what happens is even it's one person catches it. They're able to catch it almost immediately before it would spreads out. And that's the question of whether or not if the's breakthroughs will cause any type of different conversations. Of course, the president has decided to jump in, but it's the presidents of the universities that are making these decisions and In the Pac 12. I still understand it because you still have California still have organ..

At Peter Burns, ESPN the topic of this week's random draft states. It could be. What's that you want to live in? What's that you like to visit? It's open ended. We will have the new producer of this show, Miss Aly Bey, Our celebrity judge, at the end of this very fine program of the draft will commence in the next segment right now. Big news out of the world of college football, and it's time for a straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk Wireless. Wilby got some straight talk from Dr Stein. Our doctor John Steinbrecher breaker. I think it is, but my God, how do I pronounce the Mac Commissioner? I'm going breaker breaker. Good. Sounds good. Matt Commissioner. He had his press conference yesterday. And they decided To postpone all of fall sports. Here's what he had to say about it. Clearly we are charting a conservative path. And it is one that has been recommended by our medical advisory group. There are simply too many unknowns for us to put our student athletes in situations that are not clearly understood. Have traditionally been a leader on student athlete wellbeing issues. This has not been an easy decision for the mid American conference is the right decision. Did he did? He went on in this press conference because once we saw the news tweet out, I tuned in. A lot of people were trying to figure out what is going on. Because you kind of want to know. How? How? How, How is this affecting the commissioners? And I think this next clip is important to hear about the emotion that comes with the commissioner telling his student athletes. They're gonna have to postpone their fall. I'm crushed by this decision. I am I am so disappointed. Um, gosh, I'm sorry, It'sjust Crushing that We can, um Facilitate the opportunities this fall because of circumstances around us. I know that it's just I'm heartbroken on that. The flip side is I get comfort and I would say our president's would take comfort and I would assume are all others that were making decisions for the right reasons. Katie, when you hear Those comments that emotion What's the first thing that comes to mind here is the Mack has decided that they won't be playing football this fall. I think heartbroken is a good word. I mean, I'm really gutted for these kids, right? You and I both played at a high level in college. Could you imagine if your reign the middle of preseason camp? You're following all of these weird new guidelines. You're distancing. You're not having the summer that you thought on campus with all your soon athlete friends. You try not to go to parties or trying to be diligent. Be responsible, more responsible than you ever have in your entire life and get that word that Hey, It doesn't matter if you're a volleyball player, field hockey men soccer women's soccer football player, You're not going to be playing this fall. I can't imagine what these kids are feeling right now. And it's different, too, because You think back to March 12th and March 13th whenever all the college basketball conference tournament halted And swimming championships were canceled and March madness was canceled, like I couldn't fathom right couldn't fathom what those kids were going through, not getting their last dance. Especially for those seniors who had really great teams that could have done something special. But then if you're thinking about going into your next season Find a fall athlete. I'm thinking well, Time's on our side, right? Like Surely, By the time we get around to fall sports will have this thing figured out. It's you and I talked about that in March. I mean, you and I talked about that early saying that thank goodness college football. This perp may have hit corn accorded the best time because the biggest sport the sport is near, dear our heart Had 56 months of lead off a ramp up time to figure this out. And now here we are having this conversation months later and feels pee like we're in the same spot. Sadly not knowing from day to day. What's gonna happen this roller coaster of emotion? I understand the Mac financially. Was tax losing non conference matchups with power. Five teams. I understand that they were gonna lose a lot of money, but to see them pull the plug eyes really sad to me. I mean, I understand it to a degree. I just wish and I hope that other conferences don't look at this is Hey. If they did it, it makes our decision easier now moving forward as a university president. I hope that's not the sentiment because I want these presidents and these eighties to do everything in their power to allow these kids to play. If they feel like they're still providing as safe as possible of an environment for these kids to go out and compete, because honestly I don't know the financial and big picture ramifications of what happens Even if we play football all the way until the spring. I just don't know what that looks like. And I'm fearful for what it does s O many questions that come up after the Mac, which is the first FBS major football conference to to shut down for the fall. We've seen some of the smaller conferences. We've seen F C s football to do it. But the F B s eyes, a different level and the Mac I'm action. Everybody loves it. It's like Tuesday night, Maxim. You get an opportunity to watch these games. Everybody's tweeting and patted. You could see the Solu keys, but I mean, it's it's It's It's great. Now. Brett McMurphy stadium dot com. Our ESPN There are college football insider was on Dorian Mel. Yesterday, he said. Hey, with a Mac making this decision, it could be a domino effect that starts I've already heard from a lot of people within caused athletics. And even though it is the Mack it's not the big can. It's not P F C. C. It's not the Pac 12. They do think this could have a domino effect. Because ultimately what the presidents of these universities are the ones that make a decision. And how can they say it's not safe for them? How is it safe for us? And how is it going to look if we continue to play? And then there's a huge outbreak on campus football season gets shut down, our campus gets shut down, etcetera. So that's that's a real concern right now, But we'll have to see each conference has to make their own decision based on what's best for those leagues. Let me ask you this. Nobody wants to be first, right, and it feels like the Big 10 at least is meeting in having a conversation about this. Nobody wants to be last. Right. Do you feel that way? It's just a bad being blasted his first this time. I completely disagree with that, because I think that the being last to make this decision is probably going to be the most educated way because we learn Maura Maura about this every single day, And yesterday I saw a bevy of different tweet, saying Hate college football is over. That demise is way too early. I'll tell you why. Next that straight talk Wireless. No contract. No compromise. Peter Burns, Katie George Best week ever when ESPN Radio NFL has not been serious, in my view about reopening with their plan, Max Kellerman show I suggest they imitate what the N B A is doing. "Peter Burns and Katie Georges. We are still Reeling from everything that's happening in Major league baseball is if you're just waking up must have been a hell of a weekend for you. But the Miami Marlins were originally not scheduled to fly home to take on the Phillies later today because they had four players test positive with covert 19. This has escalated a zip this morning. Eight more players, including tomb or coaches. For a total of 14 players, meaning that their game now against the Phillies has been AH against the Orioles. The home opener has been postponed. And now the Phillies who just played the Marlins that game, Katie has been postponed as well. Overall. Now you see Major league baseball going to have a conference call at 12 30 with all 30 of their owners, Katie You think positive. You think it's chaos? What do you expect to learn? As we see what happens with this call? I would expect that Rob Manford would get on the phone as a commissioner and say, Hey, I just want to update you, first and foremost, this is what we're going to do. We're going to either halt for 48 hours. These teams allow them to quarantine before we know more. Or I imagine that that's what I would expect. And I would hope from a commissioner. I imagine, though, it's going to be more of the latter that it's going to be a chaotic call and maybe more reactive than proactive. I mean, given everything we know about how the MLB has handled this, I thought George Tadano brought up a great point. Initially, players did not want to go into a bubble. They didn't like the bubble concepts in terms of where the bubbles would be. Arizona, Florida being too large park areas where they could play, you know, multiple stadiums, multiple fields, they could house plenty of teams. They didn't like that idea because they were becoming hot spots right? Well, then, later on in negotiation, 60 game season was decided upon. Why not revisit the bubble concept then when it wasn't going to be 4 to 5 months, like players initially thought, and when they turned down the bubble concept idea, I would have liked to have seen that happen. I think it's too late. Obviously, for that, we're well past it. It's Kenyan men into the situation and not have to cancel a season. I think that would be alarmist. I don't think that's the information that owners are going to get on this 12 30 call. I think to your point. What happens with the Phillies? What are those test results say if the Phillies didn't get a high number of tests results, positive test results back after playing the Marlins. I think that that this salvageable for sure again, I think the next 24 to 48 hours instead of saying Oh, here's the sky is falling at this point. You're right. The linchpin is going to be the Philadelphia Phillies. And what happens with their test results. Peter Burns skinny George, Here on the Dan Lebatard Show. Remember ESPN Radio? Always presented by Progressive Home insurance. Get your quote at progressive dot com today. Cris Cody, don't work. Me, though, right? Derek Jeter is on the case. As a Marlins fan, Has he not put out a statement that just makes you feel take a deep breath. Everything's going to be a OK sunshine. He released a statement and he did what their teacher usually does he. There was a lot of words there, not a lot of substance. I didn't see me basically just said We've experienced challenges. The last couple days we've done more. Another round of testing. And we'll get some results back later today. That's basically what he said. But it's nice to hear from the captain. Billy, You feel good about this? I mean, that's that's your boy. That's your That's your gift basket guy. Come on, where you at with him? The one thing I found interesting in it because he says all the right thing is just make sure to point out you know, everything went well when we were in Miami, and when we left, that's when the team got infected, so things were safe when we did spring training 2.0, in Miami, we got it on the road. Is there is there is there is something that when you become an owner of a team You lose all opportunities to say anything that cuts through is that is and I guess I understand it's a team statement, Katie, but I feel like the Neutering that goes around whatever you become. An owner or that really high position. It's like it's like a mad Libs of you just type in words and a statement comes out. I feel like the conversation that people and hiring impositions have with their PR people is like, say something but don't say anything at all. You know, I mean, we have to say something, but don't say anything, anything at all. It's not like he was going to put it out in the statement, like I knew we should have gone to Atlanta for that scrimmage. I knew it came from there would have been great if he would have said that about like I told you. I told you this place was not going to work. Just so you guys know I was the only one of the owners. It was me and the Indians owner that had said this blank ain't going to work like I would. I feel like I feel like I would respect an owner that would say that a little bit more. But again. These are big decisions that Rob Manfred's going to have to decide on this. 12. 30 call Come up in the 37 minutes now. Yes, Billy. I feel like for Derek Jeter. That is what he did, though, right? Because, like, think about his career. He always kind of said the right thing. He never put himself in a position of controversy things so even that little by the way, things were fine in Miami. Not until we left and we get this is kind of controversial. Peter is our over at now. That's that's my aggressive. Calm them back it down. Back it down just a touch. Or maybe he had a PR. Maybe that's he said, Like just the right thing in somebody in public relations or communications, says Let's spices up just a little bit. Let's just and that was the spicing up. Yes. Yeah, It is shocking twist, he said. He said the health of his players and staff is most important. Crazy stuff. It's that is it's not at this point again. The fallout of this Katie Is intriguing because now Baltimore Miami postpone Yankees Phillies postpone You continue to play right? Or do you say? I mean, they're, you know, make up those that just that game. I mean, that's that's the question. I guess they're trying to figure out here is Rob Branford today. Well, it depends right because if you have all these people test positive in their actual positive cases, they're going to have to quarantine for quite some time. And then they have to produce two negative tests results within 24 hours of each other and not display symptoms for 72 hours. So you're going to have a lot of guys for the Marlins out for quite some time. Following Twitter. Katie underscored George 05 myself at Peter Runs ESPN is a Dan.

"At Peter burns ESPN will be joined by a head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores head football coach Derek Mason in Nashville Tennessee in a couple of minutes also Nate Boyer former NFL player former green beret going to join us remember he was really one of the catalysts behind the Colin Kapernick discussion about kneeling back in twenty sixteen and what it meant for social inequality would nobody better to really talk about that then with Nate Boyer and he'll join us at nine thirty eastern for about forty minutes away but we just had Booker McFarland on the show Katie and you know we we talked about this that that wasn't necessarily an onus on white athletes to speak out however a lot of them have in its just athletes in general and I will say this I I do want to commend the the young men and women that have done that and because that's not it that's it it's not an easy thing to do whatsoever to speak about an uncomfortable topic and I and maybe I'm a coward and I'll say it this this way is that I've had more Frank conversations about race and inequality in my personal life in my circles and I don't know if I'd had those conversations if I didn't see other younger players speak out role models guys that I guys that I follow for a living Joe burrow Trevor Lawrence Carson Wentz you know Jaylen brown of the Celtics are fifteen hours yesterday down to Atlanta where his hometown of el Marietta Georgia he says this is a conversation I want to have and I'm not sure if I'd be so happy to listen and I met me that says something about me but I am definitely more after listening to try to understand more than ever before ever in my life and I think it's the sports leaders that are or help leading that way right I mean like that like think about the pandemic when it happened we did we really start taking this pandemic in the corona virus and being safe and flattening the curve really wasn't until an NBA player had tested positive right Rudy go bare test positive all of a sudden the world was like do the NBA to shut down like this is this is not just some like little hopes this is not some this is the thing this is a worldwide thing it was an NBA player that helped us understand that and I do for the longest time we're always told well Hey listen you don't need to be a role model right like that you know if your sports figure don't get involved in this but now that we are seeing it now that we've progressed farther from twenty sixteen to twenty twenty I think it is important because I know with this it's changed my life it's changed the way that I'm more willing to listen and willing to try to understand I always think that I thought I was listening but I probably really was I think I was I I think personally Katie sorry this is therapy that you're thank you for listening mornings are far that is undergoing therapy but I think part of it is I always knew it was an issue and go okay it didn't now when I see the courage of all athletes and even WBA put out something and the schools or NFL these college coaches are putting up something white pocketed matter it was a human thing in in in this is not a white or black thing it's it's a it's a sports fan thing it's a human thing it's a mom thing it's a dad thing it's a it's it's it's it's a personal thing it's a human thing that we're trying to figure out here and I do think sports plays a major role in that and I'm glad that we have athletes at least bringing this up to the forefront and it's not just black athletes as white and black athletes it's it's it's everyone right because sports changes perspectives right you look up to athletes you follow their lives you want to know every part of what they're doing how they're training when you're an avid fan and you support them and you love them and you watch them on a day to day basis and when somebody you love and support and admire takes a stand on something as simple as human rights you're gonna listen and I think you're going to feel something and so seeing all these different athletes take to social media go to protests and stand with others who are in pain is very powerful and yes sports can change perspectives and leaks can take stances and make a difference in so many communities where they have teams located and I think you're seeing that I mean the fact that Jaylen brown drove from Boston fifteen hours to his hometown of Atlanta to participate in that protest he could have protested in Boston right now his backyard where he lives currently but he said it was important for me to go back to my roots down to Atlanta my hometown where I grew up where I was affected and be a part of those protests to end that's powerful to see something on there's a tweet though and I just can't get out of my mind I saw it last night and I immediately sent it to a bunch of people that I known I'm friends with my family and it's from say Jones at wide receiver for the Las Vegas raiders he said I was just at a local home good store with my cousin getting furniture for my place when an elderly white woman approached me at the checkout counter she looked at me with tears in our eyes and then said I'm from Minneapolis and I just want you to know you matter to me he then goes on to tweet I hesitated to hunger because she's wearing a master's elderly you know social distancing but I asked her if I could hug her and she fell into my arms and cried and he said I think her name but I'm grateful for the encounter beautiful hearts still exists be the example be the light and love others and I just I don't know that that all of the stuff that I've seen over the last few days as terrible some of it is banned as wonderful as some of its been this is probably the best anecdote that is warmed my heart in a really negative and sad situation that is going on around us so I just love that store and I'm glad to say Jones took to Twitter to tell and you know you shared that it spoke to you and there is one reason why too it made it into your timeline is because he's an athlete it was a person that had some type of influence and we need more of that sports has always looked at as the distraction to get us away from thing but now it can be your reaction how we can kinda he'll get back to a little bit normal that's why I want sports to return so we get back to all promoting one thing coach Derek Mason Vanderbilt head football coach joins us next year on ESPN radio your.

"The show is the song from ninety seven ninety eight and I'm excited because that was the year I Peter burns graduated high school and I feel like the year you graduate high school and going to your first semester of college it's such an important music here but I can remember than that just the theme song of the Chicago Bulls coming in their starting line up was one of those moments like I and I was never a huge bulls fan growing up but you just have the respect the hell out of what Michael Jordan these teams did indeed be able to see that tonight I cannot wait how old were you when you're not allowed to ask that I mean like this is I can Google your age right like I don't know it stepped into it okay okay so how old were you whatever ninety seven ninety eight when I was four so four years old four years old for me this is very exciting that babies footed this footage and hours and hours beyond a film are finally coming to the light of day right because when I was four I was watching the NBA I mean heck when I was twelve thirteen I wasn't watching the IBM from local Kentucky college basketball is king here we didn't grow up watching NBA teams are routing form for that matter the closest team is the Indiana Pacers help for me Michael Jordan is kind of a myth and legend right you hear like folk stories of your new game from my parents you hear different buzzer beaters and you see the different highlights on you two and played back on ESPN sports center over the years but I don't think I fully grasp or understand his dominance in the league when he was in his prime and then his dominance just has a personality for the NBA I remember seeing games in two thousand one to two thousand three when he was with the wizards but obviously you know he wasn't in his prime at that time and now granted you could still go off and score forty points whatever it may be on a given night which was a very impressive for that day and age but this is special for me because I think I'm going to learn a lot and I'm really going to get to see what everybody else got to see when they were rooting for him and watching him and had the privilege to see his career during that time here because I didn't get to live that Peter burns Katie George young Katie George old Peter burns I'm forty one years old and Katie I'm excited because I'm excited for you like it's like any time that you know the first time you take someone to Disney world and I've been twenty times Disney world the first time you take someone there you're like I can't wait for you to experience this I can't wait for you to experience it because I know that you're a basketball fan yourself in and we've always have these the conversations were sold abroad and even Kobe but Jordan had the Jordan rules the NBA is NBA because of Michael Jordan in for the fact for this film to be stuck in a vault for nearly two decades in finally starting to see the light of day is incredible right it's like you after you open it it's everything we want when we open up al Capone's vault and we're like oh we found on the cell but this is actually going to deliver remotest Shelburne our ESPN NBA insider was on game day yesterday here's the amazing story of how this short documentary came to light I'll think about how I how how I heard it okay so thank you hello the maybe five years ago I'm talking with Connor Sheldon thank our head of content at ESPN right and I think we were talking about the Kobe Bryant was doing maybe like detail or whatever and he mentioned that there's this archive of footage from Michael Jordan the bulls last season together ninety eight you know it's it's there's five hundred hours of it it's like the greatest what document are you could ever and Michael controls the rights so no one's ever been able to do it and I was like wait what yeah Michael let an NBA entertainment crew filmed him in the polls all throughout his last season in Chicago and he controls the rights to there will be like amazing that this existence and we both kind of started speaking out about the ability of a note of that I think that that's just sitting out there like this treasure trove the holy grail of but it just it is just sitting out there right and I would like you know five six years ago okay so fast forward to two thousand sixteen I lebron and the cavs beat the warriors hit the seventy three nine warriors in the final and a producer named Mike colon is finally get a meeting with Michael Jordan to catch him on making a documentary about the last dance like there's been many that have tried and failed like that I use this holy grail analogy because it's true like theirs then five six seven eight nine ten people who've tried to fix Michael on this and don't even get into the final chamber right don't even get to pitch Jordan on it but you know that the timing is now all of a sudden lining up on the there's there's now multi part documentaries that are airing on TV he had Netflix right I think that was an assembly at the figure that OJ made America came out I'm not making a murderer aired on Netflix I think it's ten episode series John right now coming out and Michael had always felt like you couldn't tell the story of the ninety eight calls it a two hour documentary or two hour movie and it just so happens that the warriors have now threatened his Chicago Bulls and the greatest team of all time and the run game since threatened him with the greatest player of all time all of these things line up in two thousand six when my colon the producer of a lot of jobs that you heard and loved it a documentary that you watched it in the last gets into the room with Michael Jordan and makes his picks and finally after twenty years Michael Jordan decides to give it the green light and now we get to see it tonight premiering at at nine PM tonight in India so it's interesting to Kelly about how it even came about not even about how the documentary was made because I think there is something the Golden State Warriors having success in lebron being the end all be all to Jordan be like all right let's let's see how they go really actually did it but how do you mean came together in ninety seven you think about how fast you know how forward thinking it was first I had to go to Jerry Reinsdorf the owner of the bulls and say Hey are you in on this Jerry's like yeah I think this is history then it had to progress to Phil Jackson the head coach of the bulls at the time of the bulls basically they brought this idea to fill and feels like okay I'll do it however I do get to call a time out every once in awhile like if I need you to get out of here I get out here but for Phil Jackson to be at least aware and announced that hate history was in the making this was our last run this was great but then it boiled down to Michael Jordan and the pitch to Jordan from Adam silver of all people who was ahead of the NBA entertainment group at that time Katie said worst case scenario you've got some amazing home videos to show to your kids and ultimately Michael Jordan said all right I'm good combine that with the fact that Hey I'm not gonna release it unless you're on board and I'm on board makes for what we're about to see tonight as part of part of sports history sport sports lore and it was on president president it right because Adam silver had the savvy and where with all to make the perfect pitch to Michael Jordan and like you said Jerry Reinsdorf understood it Phil Jackson he wanted a couple stipulations but he had written a couple books about teams at that point we understood the need for access and the he understood Ramona said that the need to document history and he knew that this was going to be a part of history and a big part of the NBA at some point which obviously we're so glad that he signed off on it because we've gotten to this moment but when Adam silver approached Michael Jordan it was it was an interesting situation because Michael Jordan had opted out of the players unions group licensing program here after queuing were the only two people in the league to do that which basically means that the NBA owns your likeness rights when they do commercials or whatever at the end of the year of that revenue of your likeness everybody gets a piece of the pie right well my friends that I don't want a piece of the pie because I can go out make my own marketing deals and have so much more money if I negotiate myself which obviously came to fruition but for Adam silver to say look you control it if you don't ever want anybody to see this we will never we were never produced it we never added it we would never put it on the air for the time being this footage will sit in a vault in Secaucus New Jersey and tell you give us the go ahead until just two thousand sixteen in my town and got the go ahead to two pitches kind of made history here Peter and again it a lot of it has to do with thinking Steph curry and I think lebron James for being as great as they are for Michael Jordan to be like you know what now let's actually show you arcady George follow her on Twitter Katie underscore Georgia five myself at Peter burns he S. begin coming up the dumbest injury ever the last dance.

Kenneth Branagh talks 'All Is True'

"Everybody. I'm Peter Travers this popcorn where we tell. You. What's happening at the movies? And we have a movie now called all is true. It is the story of William Shakespeare in his later years. It stars my friend here Kenneth Branagh who also directed it. And did God knows what else, you know? Can I think it's kind of amazing? We were talking a little bit before about when I first encountered you which was you playing a Henry the fifth onscreen, which he directed as well as started Oscar nominations for both things. This was a Henry who was just filled with youth and vigor and was going to take on the world and everything and it was. This fresh vigorous approach to what Shakespeare is. And now, you're playing Shakespeare himself in his later years has that make you feel on usual. Unusual very privileged. Because the in a way, you know, Henry the fifth was a it was an amazing opportunity to have as a young actor, and a sort of virgin filmmaker and really was any possible because there were lots of other equally sorts of adventurous maverick figures in terms of the produces and an all sorts of other people who were taking a chance on me. I remember talking to the late. Great psalm. Go when junior when we were releasing that film in America saying cannot, please please, please. I I know I'm I'm I'm twenty I'm nobody another, but complete can I make two requests on the post police. Could you include two names, one is Judi Dench who I promise you people will know about sued they will know about and the other one pleases William Shakespeare, without whom none of us would be here. Why credit the writer well, just different additional dialogue anyway. But it was he was just too concerned about what was going. To get people into the side. No problem listening to a smart, man. He news who knew his market. But I suppose the send if things I keep sort of saying the same thank yous to people like Judy Dench shoop stuck with me through a journey through shakes. Things have you done with her? I mean we worked about together by seven times. And she's directed me. A couple of times and I've directed her. I've always learned from her and a couple of years ago, we did Shakespeare's play the winter's tale, which was really a prelude to making this film. All is true because she played Pauline a- a woman who speaks truth to power, and she puts my character in that play on a man who makes stupid mistake and loses a child as a result. She puts into the test puts into the sold, and that sort of ten ship became a starting point for Ben Elton thinking about how might Anne Hathaway and William Shakespeare's relation be after twenty years of him being away as the most famous of the agent and coming back to face the family. That's the the whole crux of the story. He's got this wife who he basically has neglected. Fully and two daughters and a dead son memories dealing with. But I always here we know nothing about what really happened in terms of what was going on and Shakespeare's life. So how does this come about that you get to play him at in sixteen thirteen when he's basically retired after the old gulp Peter burns down. He's going on. Well, belts looked at the existing facts factual as we knew them that appear in the Public Record Office. And so you'll find that on on a day in June of sixteen fourteen Joan lane stood up in the church. Holy trinity church in Stratford, and he called Shakespeare's daughter a whore. And he said she had gonna RIA and that she was sleeping with the a man who was not her husband. This is in public record quite clear. Everybody knew about it created a sensation because Shakespeare was returning celebrity and in the case of of someone so creatively prolific to come back to a tiny town. And a long way from London, and and after thirty seven plays in a great success workout, what to do even let alone what to say to a wife and daughters, who as you say been neglected, and who have if you think of in terms of the plays that he wrote we're to have plenty to say about what he might or might not have done or said in his terms. He's gonna he's gonna come to terms with how that sits, you know, the the this idea of what it's like for genius to deal with old and rely was also in the in the core of what we were trying to look at Ben Elton who did this works on in a very humorous way. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yeah. But that's it. He's coming up and people are saying who the hell are you, you know. And I think what again one of the fascinating about Shakespeare's. How elusive he is. You know, there are probably about twenty five about him in the public record of his places. He was things that happened during the course of his life, but many people find it hard to join the. The idea of the fellow we present who may not have gone to drama school comes from a relatively lower class and REO in small country town and goes off into the world and can write plays about Rome and Egypt. And and it's Lee, and and and politics and religion and do so without having had the classical education without being as whether classical idea of genius, lured by remand bad and dangerous to know living glamorous life of public scandal. That sound great. I'd buy some of that. But Shakespeare seems to go pups, you know, exemplify what flow BAC, hold when he described the autistic life and said, you need to be boys watering, your private life and revolutionary in your creative life, and you might argue that about Shakespeare, but but that that that's sort of contradiction tension between the ordinary man and the man capable of extrordinary creative output to me you so touching so point. So Shakespeare because he he often in his own. Own place. He pulls the rug from under the feet of grandiloquent people saying, you know, what? In the end, you're all going to need company. You're going to need help at the end of your life. You're all going to require a you're all you need a support that comes from very simple contact with human beings. It isn't all about being some grand Queen or king. Even if he writes, very well about them his genius. I think he's writing about the nitty gritty in love, isn't it? Yeah. It's kind of amazing that in terms of film television. Whatever we don't really get that much of him. We really don't. So you I'm watching this. And I'm thinking, okay. Here's the he's coming home that heroes coming on, and nobody really wants them. Yes. Everybody's white says really, you know. And also that they were illiterate, basically, women just weren't taught obsoleted. So so a lot Benneton I think to give a modern voice in the film to women who. Had not been listened to. "ESPN app. We're talking a little NFL right now as we had colts defeating the Texas twenty one seven Cowboys and Dak Prescott bar Cooper. Ezekiel Elliott getting a dumb twenty four twenty two great backdoor cover though by the Seahawks. We'll get into a little bit later. But now it's time for our greatest preview of the week ever. Preview of the week ever. Are we go rapid fire? We're joined now by Jamison Hensley on the shell Pennzoil performance line or NFL nation ravens reporters, we get a little bit closer to ravens in chargers. Jameson? What's the feeling around? Baltimore. Does this feel like twenty twelve or they they ran the table and one at all? If you remember it was actually a little different feeling because they really kind of back into the playoffs that year. They also for the last five but this year's team. There's just a total different feel. It's almost like they'd be like to play with house money a little bit. They were formed five at the by and lost three straight. Joe flacco. There's starting quarterback had a hip injury. They were going to have to go to a rookie quarterback. And it was like, okay. The season's pretty much over. I was kind of sense around town. They they installed a an uncle eventual offensive. Lamar Jackson sparked the entire team. They've they've gone them one and AFC north champion. They're hosting a playoff game for the first time since two thousand twelve and there's a renewed excitement around Lamar Jackson. You don't wanna really thought he was going to be ready? This sued, and yeah, he has a lot of growing to do. But you can't complain for the results. He's put out there on the field. Talking to Jameson Hensley, our NFL nation ravens reporter on best week ever been hard sock and Peter burns interesting that these teams played against each other just two short weeks ago. Ravens got to win. But the chargers are eight no on the road this year and they also held Lamar Jackson to a season low thirty nine yards. How much does that concern you heading into this game? That has is a lot of talk amongst the ravens this week was the chargers are first team to play the ravens or play the Lamar Jackson offense for the second time this year in the second time in three weeks. And I don't think the ravens are really concerned that oh, we'll go. You already will really help the chargers way. I think the biggest deserve for the ravens is that. The chargers are the fastest defense their face this year. And that was a big reason why they held Lamar Jackson check. But if you watch for Jackson last Sunday when it was a the season was on the line against the Browns. You saw really say, you know, what I want the ball in my hands, and I'm gonna I'm gonna win this game. And I think you might feel a little bit evacuated and that is a little bit concerned with. The ravens say I think people have said, oh, well Lamar Jackson is the youngest youngest quarterback ever started playoff game concerned about that. I think the the Rams are concerned that anything will be a big moment for more jacks. Everything was such poise. Thank the biggest concern is that he's gonna try out go out there and tried to do a little too much and morning morning. Wake out that's eight. Or even said, you know, what there's some players that think of themselves as superman and Lamar Jackson. He's kind of one of them. And we saw that one of the reasons why he had the Heisman Trophy season at Louisville. And but also one of the reasons why the Baltimore Ravens are hosting a playoff game. Last question for you. When Joe flacco claps on the sideline is it like a real emphatic clap for Lamar Jackson, or is it why? Hey, I'm happy that you wanted to Oscar even though I was nominated claps. I I will say that Joe flacco is handled. This it's been a very tough situation for him in in in a very classy way. And I think it's a very awkward situation for him. He doesn't want to see what Lamar Jackson come over to like his ear and be like, you know, I've I've been here. I know, you know, he doesn't want to kind of be the person to say, hey, the more. I'm the voice of experience. I can help you out. I think he doesn't want. He wants to have let Lamar Jackson has his moment. You his team? Now, he doesn't wanna step on his toes. So he wants he wants to kind of be in the background a little bit. But he also doesn't want to seem like he's just disgruntled employees where he's wishing the worst. He said every time we have it's been a couple of times since the ravens have benched hemming and went favorable March act that he's been very supportive of March taxes, but he has also acknowledged you know, what a backup. It's not the most fun thing in the world. So it's it's a very different situation for him. But I have never spent anything where it's been a real big problem. Now, honestly the way he's handled the situation there's been new problems in the locker room is it's really been a spoof transition because Joe flacco he really hasn't made a real big stink of everything. Can't wait to see how that drama in unfolds. Especially with the game itself. That's being played Jameson Hensley NFL nation ravers reporter, we appreciate the time. Great. Thank you have a great show there. It is James in Hensley. Joining us Peter burns been heart sock. Best week ever on ESPN radio right now. Our man Jeff Dickerson. We'll give us a little preview of bears and the eagles, Jeff. It's never good. When a team since you an Email close to midnight. But that's what happened with the bears. I'm hearing what what's the story there late last night? They announced that Trey Burton. They're highly paid starting tight end is now questionable with a groin injury. So you have to imagine that happened during the Saturday walk for the late night snack team hotel late last night. Trade Burton's a big part of this offense fifty four catches. And as you guys know, he's Mr. affiliate special team last year. He talked all week about the excitement about facing his former team. So. So he's questionable. Officially we'll see what his status is. Will we get to the stadium and a little bit? But obviously not a great sign this late in the game on one of your best defensive players pops up on that report what about Mitchell Trubisky up and down year struggle first versus some of the better teams that they face this year. What do you expect to see how to Mitch Trubisky today? You know, it's funny. I'm listening to Jameson talked about Lamar Jackson and the ravens not wanting him to do too much. That's been the bears motto this week with Trubisky. They just don't want him to play beyond his capabilities in the offense year one in this Matt Nagy system when Trubisky has gone with the flow and used his natural strengths and just been smart. He's played really. Well, like the numbers weren't great for him. I guess in week seventeen against Minnesota. But he had a really effective game. When the bears beat the Packers to win the NFC north of the first time since two thousand ten three weeks ago Trubisky was exit. Solent? Then those that Rams game you guys remember an early December. I'm prime time. It was the best bears. Win of the year Trubisky was horrible horrible three terribly thrown interceptions. He admitted he tried to do too much. He got a little overwhelmed. So how he handles that. First playoff game experience today. Probably goes a long way towards the terminating whether or not the bears win or lose talking to Jeff Dickerson. Our NFL nation bears reporter on best week ever been heart sock and Peter burns if I'm Khalil Mack. I hearken back to my high school defensive end days a dominant highschool defensive and not really, but I like. Beating up kids in the midwest are like a hundred and forty pounds that had green beans for eight straight meals. Come so, I guess that's a good segue because if I'm Khalil Mack, and I hear that Nick foles has sore ribs, I have to be salivating at the thought of putting a solid shot on him has as Khalil Mack. And and Leonard Floyd shown any excitement about trying to get to that. Nick foles sore ribs situation. I'm sure they feel very good about that same thing with the chemo heck's. Now, the bears guys I'll tell you this the bears and not say anything stupid all week which shows you that they do respect the eagles. There was not. There wasn't much bulletin board material that was the Sean Jeffrey I only worked in Chicago thing, but I know alshon, and he's a little out there. There was no no offense taken inside the bears locker room by that comment. But how can you not be excited about this bears defense and what they've done this year led by Khalil Mack? Number one in takeaways number one interceptions number three in points, scored off turnovers, and it all starts because the pressure. They generate. Upfront and they usually only send about four this is not a big blitzing team with Vic Fangio. So again, if the defense just doesn't give a big place they've given up big place in the games. They've lost this year. If they don't do that. And if any Jackson their Pro Bowl free safety is healthy enough to play with that ankle injury. I think the bears are going to be okay. And they're going to win this game. Jeff Dickerson joining us last question for you been heart had talked earlier he says when the colts beat the Texans. You were all in the coach could win it. If the bears do indeed beat the eagles. Are you all of this team headed towards back a Super Bowl shuffle? Who I know? Louis Riddick is my guy. I mean, he's the bears for months. So I think the bears could win in Los Angeles. They really did beat the Rams up pretty good. Now that was a cold gain in Chicago. It'll be different playing in the Coliseum. But as far as matchups go, I think they proved that they can hang with the Rams would I don't know. And what every team in the NFC should be asking the selves as can you go to the Superdome and beat the saints right likely in the NFC championship game. I I would be a little leery that the bears could get that done this quick and the rebuilt under Matt Nagy dollar and a dream in any given Sunday. It can happen in the NFL. He's Jeff Dickerson NFL nation bears reporter, Jeff we appreciate the time. Man, talk to you soon. Thanks guys, take care there. It is Jeff Dickerson joining us..

"Peter burns, ESPN music theme. Real quick guys. It is coming of age songs, right? We've got the coming of age of the new and this is a new class of quarterbacks. So we've been excited for we'll see Lamar Jackson being twenty one years old a little bit later in that game against the chargers. Dak Prescott winning a game under the age of twenty five. And Andrew luck is is still what I consider a younger quarterback. And I think this is where we're at and the NFL right now when I think of blink one eighty two I think if those stovepipe genes that like the the circumference of the genes, you're you can't even tell it almost looks like a gene dressed you. Remember, the the giant legged jeans? Jenkins. I think of Bullhead Bullhead jeans, the skater genes that whole genre. Tony hawk man. I remember I remember all that. But yeah, the the coming of age the young quarterbacks it really is pretty fascinating. How that all happened all of a sudden they're here? Well, in in this is what has been hyped up for it. I felt like last year in the NFL lacked a little luster for a bevy of different reasons. And it just didn't pop in. I think coming into this year. We saw a lot of court young quarterback talent. And we wonder how he was going to work. Some of that young talent that we saw develop is is Lamar Jackson. We'll talk about them a little bit later. But right here on best week ever Peter burns been hard sock. Let's talk about what the Dallas Cowboys were able to do twenty four to twenty two another game. Awesome defense for the Cowboys. But it really was truly Dak Prescott. I think a coming of age game for him. In fact, so much at Zeke, Elliot went to Twitter and Instagram and social. Oh media and called him a grown bleep, man. And that was asked about that from the post game press conference here. He was. Zeke said that he played like a grown man, you feel like he played like that. Or how did you feel like you play? I'm grow in general. So. Like it or not take the compliment. But. Yeah. I felt good tonight. Just I everybody worked well together. And we can do that. I just made it makes my job easier. It makes his job easier. But it also makes my job harder because Dak Prescott is by far been heart sock. The number one reason why I have a team that I despise yet. I pull for because of one player and that's Dak Prescott. Like, I don't like the Cowboys. Right. I know somewhere will Cain is probably still shirtless right now with all his Cowboys TAT's up and he's running around can't wait for Monday show to talk about it for this win. I just don't like the Cowboys. I've been that way for a long time. And yet Dak Prescott is that athlete that I say, 'i begrudgingly pool for the Cowboys beating the Seahawks because of deck. Why do you pull for Dak like what is it about? That has endeared him to you genuinely one of the nicest most cerebral leaders, I have ever met. And I say that because I had an opportunity to cover him when he was a quarterback Mississippi State now, Mike, I know you're gonna say this. SEC Homer take. But here's a quick type AK. Here's here's as. Yes about why? I pulled for Dak Prescott. I didn't know much about the kid. I would go down the Dan Mullen and say what what's the deal with Dak Prescott. And he goes, absolutely leader. And you would see that in practice. But you don't know how good of a kitty is week before. Mississippi State beat LSU. I have Dak on my show are showing SEC network. And I ask a question. I said, hey, dad, I'm a bat Rouge kid. I'm not really pulling for you when you play LSU, and he goes out. That's okay. We have this great interview. So the next week Mississippi State destroys LSU, and I have him on the show on that Monday. And before the interview starts that goes, Mr. burns. I'm sorry. I know that you're an LSU guy. But now apologize, but what we did to the Tigers. But it was it wasn't like him. Trolling me. You know, it was it was actually like a heartfelt like sorry. I did it. And I've just there are certain guys that I don't know why he doesn't register you tell me to both. The all the deck Prescott isn't a likable quarterback in the NFL right now. Buying that at all. He's not noteworthy to me. I I like I like Dak Prescott. I saw the e sixty did a feature where he lost his mother. And so there's there's a wonderful story behind it. But there's nothing about that game. There's nothing about him as a player that really moves the needle. And for me as you as you talk about that game Dak Prescott he threw one touchdown. It was a great touchdown right before half to take who who caught the pass those Galip Galip caught the past right before the half. That was a nice key play in a defensive game where the big play could be the difference in the game. But the story of that game is the Dallas defense is slowing down the number one rushing attack in in in the NFL. That's the story of that game is is that the the Dallas cowboy defense kept Russell Wilson. And check you didn't interesting play calling out of Seattle only a couple of times use called runs to Russell Wilson. Then what do they do? They got a key first down on us late. Got a touchdown. But slowing down the Seattle rush. I think was the story of that game. It was it was an Ezekiel Elliott that were those are the two storylines for Dallas win Zeke Elliott carrying it on offense. And the defense for Dallas stopping the number one rushing attack in football. I go back and look at it as well. To is the guy that we haven't talked about it as much as we can table that discussion about that Prescott for a little bit. But having Amari Cooper, the trade that the Cowboys made has been a difference maker. And if you go back and look earlier in the season when the Cowboys play the Seahawks Dak had nobody to throw it to zero. Right. I mean all wide receivers combined. I don't think he threw for more than a hundred and five yards wide receivers. And you look at the numbers at Amari was able to have this to me is like a poor man's version. But it could grow into something of Emmett Smith and Michael Irvin. That you have I think Amari Cooper is can be a dominant wide receiver one in this league. I think. Ezekiel Elliott has already proven that he can be a dominant running back one. Right. I dude a guy a cog in a championship team. The thing is is conduct Prescott. Become a Troy Aikman has that much talent. But I think you have to have a breakthrough win every quarterback has to have that wind gets them over that hump in Dak Prescott loses that game which I don't think they were ever really endowed because the defense played so well he loses that game. There's gonna be another season of saying, well, it's going to be the future of this franchise. No deck won that game. And he's ready to roll now. And that could be opened up everything you get you get get them to the Super Bowl. I'm not even saying they have to win a Super Bowl Dak gets more legitimate. But this a wild card win does not do what you just said that it is done. He is a grown man as he said. All right coming up grown bleep, man. Decisions greatest sound of the week ever. You got to hear this for many DS next on ESPN radio. Quarterbacks and what they're doing the playoffs long Prescott. Five. Our job is to win.
