"Gary professional medical corporation. Good afternoon. John Miller back here at oracle park where the giants defeated the rays coming from behind six four we're going to review the game here with some of the highlights in a moment. But first, let's go places with the Toyota out-of-town scoreboard. Some finals the Mets after the nationals came from behind in the eighth inning with three runs to go ahead. Five to three got three runs of their own in the last of the eighth inning. Including a couple of home runs one from the rookie Peter Alonzo and the next one from Robinson canot who is not a rookie to tie the ball game. They got another run and one at sixty five immediately after giving up three runs in the eight got the winds ship took the loss. And then Edwin Diaz the former mariner closure acquired by the match dot his fourth. Save the Mets on out six to the national's three and four the Reggie, let's go on eleven runs in seven games before. Today. Got five runs today and lost. Anyway, sixty five to the pirates in Pittsburgh Leary auto got the win Iglesias took the loss and the the winning run scored in the last of the tenth inning on a walk off double by Kevin Newman of the pirates the Phillies were defeated by the twins, sixty two in Philadelphia tonight. The dodgers in the Rockies will play at Coors field. Walker? Bueller versus John gray there. The. Values are six to the Rockies three and five. The debate chose the world champion Red Sox who are now two and seven after a fifteen to eight loss in the debates home opener yesterday, David price. You're trying to be the stop roof of Boston up against Luke Weaver. The former cardinal going for Arizona. The Braves are hosting the Marlins just getting started no score in Atlanta after a half. AB athletics are in Houston. The Astros beat Oakland last night at it's nothing nothing. Top of the second thing. The athletics are up against Wade Miley in that game. The cubs. You're one and six fixing the red hot brewers who are seven and one in the brewers have already jumped on Cole hamels for a run in the first inning at Miller park and have a one nothing lead their Yankees in Baltimore. And the Yankees have scored around in the first inning on an Aaron judge home run against a Bundy. And it is one nothing Yankee still batting in the top of the first inning at Camden Yards. The padres. Beat the cardinals six to four in Saint Louis with Whistler getting the win over Miller and Kirby eight got his fifth. Save husband hedges and Manny Machado all hit home runs for the Padres. Who are now. Six and three the giants beat the raise here. Six to four. Let's review the game. Now, some of the highlights the game summary is sponsored by the Silicon Valley hair institute when you're trying to get back into the game. Think of the Silicon Valley hair institute the best in the bay for robotic hair transplants. The raise would score in the first inning again. But just the one run this time fan with one facing giants daughter. Jeff's Amodu, drew a walk, and then man Choi doubled him home and just like that Tampa Bay had a one nothing lead. But some are settled in nicely from there and the giants got their offense going in the third inning. And it was courtesy of Kevin pillar who we were talking about during the. Post game wrap pill lar- led off in the third against a new pitcher just in after the opener Stanic was taken out after two perfect innings. "Plus, you can maybe look forward to the number one pick which is something at least to look forward to. Whereas if you're the Tigers in your maybe the second or third worst team in baseball right now in your at least a few years removed from being good, and at least a few. Here's for moved from being good again in terms of like current star power. I guess you've got Cabrera. But that's about it. That would probably be my pick. Well, let's just like is a back of the napkin judgment for for how far away. The tigers. Are do you know who Casey Mayes is? I do I do know a number one pick. So that I do. Okay. That's my my judge or might my like part of my. My my ruler for for how close a prospect is to the majors is whether you know, if you know anything about. Yeah. So I think number one picks probably get a an exemption. You have so much knowledge in your head. I don't know what what sort of cifs out the by. That's two. "I I I hear you. But they they pay Lowry two years. I think they're gonna use it. Healthy. And I'd like. As a guy that goes all over the place as long as he hits, which I think he'll be who's playing centerfield Thursday. I think you may have your opening day lineup here in Sarasota. Today. It is I'll give it to you. Nemo? Too long. How can I was third? Conforto cleanup romo's five. Mcneil is sick Rosario seven Smith today that won't be there. But then like ours and the eighth spots if you will. And then we'll fuck. I would have to say that that has a very good chance of being the laugh minded Smith as I liked that. I liked. Throw them right in the mix. You're breaking up a couple of lefties. I by one last thing. I know we gotta go with the update with mink. The or breaking a trend here. The Mets they are letting Peter Alonzo make Pilayo make this team forget about service, Tom what's the motivation behind us? Well, the the thing that don't forget though, they can send him back down. You know, they can they can recoup that service. Okay. They can't do that. You know, he can be sense down. Yep. He's not he's not handling it. Now from what I see. And again, I know spring training spring training at don't believe anything don't play records and numbers and all that stuff, but this kid handles about well, he's not just the slugger baseball classics. You can play the defense will be a work in progress. But it's gotten better. But he goes the other way, he, you know, he handles eight one I he is an RBI that knows what to do with men on base and moving guys around patients, and that's not just crushable and knocking three he's player. So I think he may be here for good. But that possibility still exists if you don't if it doesn't work, you know, any any struggles in the first couple of weeks of the season and Frazier is writing and comes back. You know, you could see him sent down it is possible. So, but I think he's probably gonna make every effort and do what he can to stay right here all year, and he may very well do that. Any we appreciate it. Tournament. Quick I have a union. So there are still won't listen all all the top seeds or alive. Yeah. I I don't I don't know. I don't think they look particularly good. But they were better yesterday, but Virginia winning at all you guys got I got. William and I went Duke young Virginia. And the final four will say that. Yep. I isn't it. Virginia to play in the punk rock. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. Suffered. So we'll see. Yeah. Fannie daddy. Guys on the Mets and everything that's going on their final hour will come back with your calls. "Bob Eusler, the Mets heard it from some of their fan base when they failed to call up their minor league player of the year last season Peter Alonzo, well Peter now goes by Pete an intense to be with the mess from the beginning of the season. And he's off to a good start this spring first game of the exhibition season. He hit the first pitch. He saw out of the park. A two run Homer part of the Mets four to win over the Braves as Alonzo celebrates a I sorta. Yeah. I mean, that's I mean, that's my first home run. I know it's not regular season. But I mean to do it and bigly camping. And that's to me that's still pretty special Robertson Cano had an RBI single in his first game as the mess us nine pitchers veteran lefty Hector Santiago with one shot at it ain't got credit for the win. Just heard it on the fan. The Yankees lose their grapefruit league opener beaten by the Red Sox. Eight to five left-hander now roster left-hander Hector Cortes star. Both looks like it's forty degrees. It's not a meat locker in there. I wonder what's the matter with you guys frozen got bets out all over the place who knows who's got money out today. "You never know that could be that line up in the middle of June. But we do get to see Peter Alonzo today and the clock starts with him. What does he need to do to win the first base job? And here's the appeal of Alonzo, and this is a little different from met passed in the last few years over the last few years in sandy would always admit this. He wanted to hit home runs, and he said it numerous times, you know, the stats save you out home or your opponent. You're gonna win for the Mets had a lot of guys who hit home runs. Lucas Duda was a home run hitter. Jay, Bruce was a home run hitter. When you look at the Mets right now. They've got guys who hit home runs. I would say the only got the only guy in this lineup or should be in this lineup or could be in this lineup that you would look at before anything else and save that's a home. Run hitter is Todd Frazier. That's it. Ken Lowrie is not a home run hitter. Robbie Kino's interesting Robbie can hits home runs. But do you think of Robbie Canoas a home run hitter? No, you think of Robbie hitter. Michael Conforto Bill take of them that way. Brandon Nimmo don't think of him that way. The Mets don't have a lot of pop. They have guys who can hit home runs. They don't have a lot of pop Peter Alonzo can be that guy. If Peter Alonzo becomes the guy that we're all dreaming. He becomes that baseball America thinks he can be that forty home runs slugger in the middle of the order. That'd be great for the middle of this lineup. So if he can hit, and I'll tell you March twenty fifth because I'm gonna watch a lot of these games starting with today. If I've got the feel to say, he's ready give him the job. But the health of this team's gonna make a big impact yet. Lowry's health is going to be a big factor here if jed Lowrie is not healthy going to opening day. And I don't know if he's going to be we'll see I think that gives Alonzo a better chance to get this first base job. So as you get ready today, if you're like me, maybe you're not like me, maybe you're so bored by spring training ready. You will watch a second. Then you know, what I'm sorry. What can I tell you? But if you're like me. Today is in a weird way the beginning of the baseball season. And it helps that when you look outside. It's like thirty five degrees outside this warm. You up don't you want to be warm a little bit? I am pleased to tell you. And I've said this a few times that next Saturday. How will be from port Saint Lucie, Florida. And that's not about me. Who cares if it's warm we'll talk to some Mets, there'll be some surprise guests. They'll be there'll be a lot of spring in the baby. But today we will touch on the baseball. There was a very exciting night in the NBA last night not the knick game. I mean, come on up nickname. But everything else was exciting. I actually felt bad about what happened up in Toronto. Because you wanna see there be a happy ending damore derozen his eight good, dude. If you've ever heard damore to Rosen. This is a good guy who wanted to be in Toronto. And I don't blame the raptors they made a really good deal in trading into San Antonio, essentially for Kawhi Leonard, and Danny green and it's worked for them. But at least for one night, Kim damore Rosen be the hero and not call the ball up having a turnover. Forced by who else? Coli lettered, and Kyle Lowry and have Kawai be the hero. I mean, come on. You have the Paul George ending at Oklahoma City. I was locked in on the Chicago Bulls game against the Orlando Magic because I'm sick. No because I'm really into the next battle for a playoff spot. So we'll touch on the NBA mentioned the initial trade deadline EJ radish gonna join me at twelve noon. College basketball, the Bob Kraft story, there's a lot to get to over the next three hours the toll free number. I think you know, it, but I will tell you. Anyway in case, this is your maybe your first time listening. It is eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six when we come back. Those phone lines will be put to good use Evan Roberts with you here on a Saturday. You with the rhinestone dot collar between stocks. I convinced my human to upgrade to a new.

"On the fan. Johnny Mak tangle with you. We got an hour to spend together on the phone. On and shame on me Joseph. Anthony McDonald junior for not asking Eddie Coleman about the biggest breaking story in met. Cam all over Twitter. Mets first baseman Peter Alonzo. Is now going by Pete Alonzo. He doesn't necessarily want to be called Peter anymore. He just wants to go by Pete Lonzo. I'm going to apologize to Pete in advance. Because when these things happen when things change something that you said over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, it takes me awhile to catch up. I think I have a mental block along those lines. I'm still calling the football team that plays in the AFC west and is played in really southern California. The last several years the San Diego Chargers rather than the Los Angeles chargers, and they moved into LA now two years ago, and I still go on the San Diego Chargers. So that's my bad. Shoot. By the time. I started calling the Oakland Raiders to Los Angeles Raiders, they moved back to Oakland. I had just gotten to the point where I never say Oakland anymore and damage Davis dead moving back to Oakland. It'll take me while when I get the Vegas too. So I will advance to Pete Alonzo. If I call him Peter several if not many times over this upcoming season. I hope I get the call them alive because that means he's won the job and the matab a first baseman that maybe just maybe you can look at as not only the guys getting the job done this year. But also potentially getting it done in the future. But big announcement today the artist formerly known as Peter Alonzo. Prefers to be called Pedo on self. You get Pete. All right. And I forgot to ask the stupid paper sitting right in front of me. But you get a guy on and you ask a question in your next question comes up something. And he said, so I apologize for not getting further details. I don't think there's anything more to it. I think we can figure this out pretty easily by ourselves. He likes Pete better and Peter. So he wants to go right Pete. So okay. You gotta beat not a problem just gonna take a little while to adjust. But the new met first baseman going into the season guy, who's probably going to play the most games I asked this question way, back when we started the show who do you believe is going to start the most games at first base for the New York Yankees this year. Well, the guy who I think is going to start the most games for the New York Mets this year at first base is Pete Alonzo. The only way that this goes sideways on Pete is if he doesn't quite do what he's supposed to do is not slugging away supposed to slug and his first base defense which. Another thing. I gotta remember to ask next time. I get him on and again practices. A one thing. You got actually see it in the game. You can watch guys. Get fun goes hit to them. And you give it its valuate of worth. But not more than it deserves supposedly Alonzo is looked okay at first base this year so far in spring his reputation preceded him that he wasn't really a very good feeling first baseman. But someone told me that these actually look pretty good down here. I apologize for not remember who it was. I'm pretty sure. Well, mattie. But Pete Lonzo should start the most games for the match at first base. The only way it goes different is if. Alonzo doesn't do what he's supposed to do. And either Brock's Garris grabs that centerfield job by the throat, and they want a full-time full-fledged center or out there every single day, then you got nemo, and you've got Conforto both of which I think are going to start if healthy a hundred and forty plus games in right and left will figure it out says sets, but he gets back. And McNeil moves back into the infield. And he plays second base. I think Robinson canot could end up playing lot of games at first base for the Mets. I know he thinks of himself as basement everyone is saying that they think of him as a second baseman. I McNeil is better at second. And you gotta get McNeil's bat in the lineup and your best lineup includes. If you want your eight best haters in their if lagaras or Braxton, you're hitting Mullen, you might want to move McNeil back to second base and put Conover I. But that's only for Lonzo drops the ball on taking that first base job met fans. Get on Yankee fans hit me up eight seven seven three three seven six six six. Mark from Bloomfield is hey, Mark. Hey, Jodie breaking point. I just want to make an announcement that I'd like to be known as market problem. Bloomfield, apologize for calling you Mark. I will try and remember Marcus from now. On your the first to know. I I'm not holding. Thank you. I appreciate it. As we see with which Larry. And I I don't think it's a major injury. Just to the fact that they're taking their sweet old time getting this MRI done, and it just sounds like a little tweak. But it just reminds us with met seasons wreath at met seasons being ruined by injury. And that way even more important than I've been calling a couple of times really aboard each depict up Adam Jones, I just think he's he would be an important part of our depth and a real pro on the bench and in the field. I'm not I'm not sold on nemo yet. I'm really not even after all we saw last year. His second year. And you know, teams have a way of finding holes in your swing the second time around. So I I think it would be who them, and they can probably get him on sixty seventy cents on the dollar at this point. I'm Adam Jones guy is I think I told you the last time you called, and I wouldn't mind seeing but diverges I'm also a Nimmo guy. I don't think nimmo's going to need to be replaced as a closed everyday outfielder. I don't have as many concerns as you do. I really I here's cast a happen. You have to resign yourself to cutting and or attempting to trade and good luck trying to trade either one of them Braxton or Lou lagaras because if you bring in one of those two guys have to go, so you don't think rock star. I thought he was starting in the minors. Really? That's where he's probably gonna play the majority of the year, you below you know, to forty most times, although he had a little bit of pop. But the Garris league look until he plays the whole year. You've got to prove it to me as well. That he can do it. And I don't see that happening. Either. Understood. I'm not sure Bronx. I gotta try and look it up. My computer went down here in the studio. So I apologize Marcus. I don't know if Braxton Scotney option slapped. I if they can just send them down. You're right. They'll probably send them down. But I don't know that that's a viable option. They can bring in Adam Jones, but again. Part of the evaluation outfield is and I don't have the answer. I don't know the Mets have the answer. They have a guesstimate. When is this coming back? If you're gonna make a move for it Adam Jones, and you're gonna give them decent money. Not great money, but decent money. Well, when casper this comes back, and the Nimmo and Conforto are doing what they're supposed to do. You're going to have to again, find a home for another outfielder be either a trade where you're not going to get much in return, and or cutting somebody they want to look Braxton wanna look at lagaras. It was still sitting here three weeks from now, and we're not gonna door of the beginning of the season. And both of those guys have done nothing for the first couple of weeks, spring training and Adam Jones still sitting out there. I think the Mets may jump in. But before that now they're going to give the guys they have in camp the shot. First. Franken called wells up on the fan of Frank. What's going on? How are you? I just want to talk about what you thought. Like if you were Dave Gettleman all the speculation about Russell Wilson leaving the team having problems with the contract. Would you give up? Landon Collins for Russell Wilson straight out. Russell Wilson of the Seahawks. I am in a heartbeat. I don't think there's any chance of that happening. No, no. I think if the Seahawks traded Russell Wilson to the giants the first thing they would ask for we'd be the six pick in the draft. And then then they'd probably want more on top of it. So you think you're getting impor-? Landon Collins who's yes can be franchise tag this year. But is one of the better safeties in the league? I don't think he's the best safety. But I think he's one of the better safeties getting Russell Wilson for that kind of return. Okay. Good try, and I did see Landon Collins. He's suggested hinted that he would be unhappy. If the giants, but the price tag on them. The two week period. Started tuesday. So they've got all two weeks to decide whether they are aren't gonna do it from what I understand they're not in a contract extension mode right now. So I think it's a poor gun conclusion that they're going to put the franchise tag on him at some point safety is not a bad paying position in the NFL. There are a couple positions that I think Joan slow growth and actually have bigger impacts on games wins and losses, and if you get into the franchise mode, and you are the best player at that position. Or debatably? The second best player deposition can be a blatantly underpaid safeties eleven million dollars landed counts number would be Lebanon change this upcoming year. I know everybody wants security everybody wants the long term contract. Everybody wants to get as much in guaranteed money as they can. And the franchise tag is only one year it's guaranteed, but it's only one year. Playing for one year Levin million dollars and coming off a season in which he was injured. I don't think that's a bad thing for lane coned. If he if he were you're not happy about that's fine. But if he were to threaten to hold out and not show up and skip camp. Landon you didn't play much this past year, buddy. And you're getting eleven million dollars guaranteed. That that to me would be a little I want wanna say ethical, but. Wouldn't wouldn't make sense to me for me ongoing relationship position with the giants? That's just my advice. "Morning at twelve midnight. I'm Marco balletti twenty nine work the end of an error in the Bronx is one of the longest tenured Yankees will be calling it quits at year's end with more on that we get the support from our own Sweeney. Murdy see Sobat the officially announced he will retire at season's end came to the Yankees ten years ago. I was you know, didn't really know what to expect. But it's been incredible. You know from day one, you know, a chance to meet Andy Pettitte. Be like a big brother to me. And just really embracing being here and being a Yankee. It's been a great ride. Congratulatory statements derived from petted Derek jeeter Joe Girardi, LeBron James and Steve Kerr among others for the Mets. They're hoping Peter Alonzo b the goods after a monster offensive season in the minors last year and could solidify first base under Mickey Callaway and put the bed. The talk is defense will be alive last year, his work and how he improved and the is that we had on on him scouting and player development wise, all agreed on on the same thing that he was probably the most improved defensive guy. "It's I'm asking us. The two baseball teams share has raised start spring training pitchers. Catchers are starting to arrive the Mets and the Yankees you're talking about our local teams here. The most interesting. Guy. You're you're you can't wait to see what what he brings this year by like if you had to say one for me and the AKIs Gary Sanchez. He's the one guy that I wanna see if he's going to have a bounce back year. Gary Sanchez, you know, I would be. Be for the AKIs for the Mets. Yeah. I wanna see if Peter Alonzo can make it. Okay. I like to me they're like the two interesting. They I would say look Voight and Greg bird that battle at first base is interesting to me as well. Okay. I'm not as interested in that. But then Greg birds finished, but we'll see. Yeah. I told you I was all about Luke voice. So the drinking, raw eggs and bench pressing. Eight. But I think like Gary Sanchez from me and then Peter Alonzo for the Mets. Okay. Do you want to from here on quest? Okay. All right. I wanted to give you a flavor of what I was on flavor. Right. That's all right. Let me just tasted that flavor. And now I'll go with Robinson Conover the Mets. I think it's pretty obvious one. That's okay, though. What's he got left in the tank, whatever cliche? You wanna use there and a lot of money over the next four years. Yeah canal. I'm excited to see canal for the Mets and for the Yankees Troy to Lewinsky for a couple of reasons one because apparently he's going to be the starting shortstop no matter what even if the Yankees still somehow get in on Machado. And also he's got the two heels like cesspit has the two heels. And if to Lewinsky comes back, and he looks great with the two heels, then maybe there's some hope there for is. So that's the reason why I think tool whiskey be interesting to me. Now, did you see that the we're talking about betting on the Oscars and betting on different things that the Yankees are still face? Favorite's the sign Manny Machado by sportsbook. Really? They're still favorites. I don't know why. Because he wants to be a Yankee. That's why. And there's not an offer out there. That's blowing these guys away. So maybe they're thinking the Yankees still would swoop in. Yeah. I'll give you the odds as soon as I find him shadow odd Yankees. As I go live on the radio. Let's see. So now, so now the the White Sox are right there. Now too. So the White Sox have now reemerged Stanton's making twenty six million the Nakas twenty two million ellsbury still on the dole for twenty one million. Right. How about that? Right. Chapman. Seventeen million J is seventeen million Britain with a K now is thirteen million. They paid DJ. Lemay you twelve million. This is from yesterday at nine zero five PM is a couple of different places one place as the White Sox the action network here the Yankees who appeared to be running who went to reveal. That's right. That's Darren rebel the Yankees who appeared to be out of the running for Manny Machado after signing. DJ? Lemay Hugh, our favorite at minus two hundred in the latest free agency odds. So why would you have like DJ LeMay you and Troy to a whiskey if you're going to sign Machado? Well, I think that that's insurance. If it doesn't go your way, and he ends up falling in your lap at a reduced price. Because he wants to be a Yankee. And no one else out there is bidding and you can get a superstar player on cheap than maybe Brian Cashman. He swoops right in says, I'll take this guy. And then you figure it out from there. That's what I think. I do. I still think he's going to come to the keys. He's the favorites. Man. They know what's going on these people these betting line people. So I see the White Sox in another another line is a favorite. But here they got the White Sox say plus five hundred along with the Phillies Padres plus four hundred. So I don't know if anybody knows anything to be quite Frank. Well, I love the old. We'll just have to wait and see. Yeah. Right. Yeah. It's got to happen soon. I mean, we're talking about Valentine's Day being tomorrow pitchers and catchers guys showing up at has to be soon. You know, the amazing thing the highest paid player in the White Sox right now is Jose Abreu. Yeah. And how much sixteen million? Okay. And then they don't have another guy that's making double digit millions. They got a lot of young players. That's right. Big rebuild their with the White Sox. See the Bryce Harper odds. I think San Diego was the the odds on favourite last. Oh now, it's the giants. The giants of the favorites. Now. The San Francisco Giants have emerged of the odds-on favourite to sign Bryce Harper. The giants are an even money one to one the Padres five to two right? There the Phillies four to one the dodgers fifteen to nationals ten to one. So what do you think like a seven year deal with three or opt out or something like that? That's what's going to end up happening. I think. Yeah. I mean that sounds like one I do think that there's going to be a lot of five year deals with big money in it that will be offered. But I don't know if they'll be taken by the Yankees, they're deal with my guess, of course, I'm not one of these baseball insiders hate so much. But my guess would be it'd be about five years with with big money and the reluctance to give the long term deal is the thing that's holding this up and the thing that has led to all this stuff going on with major league baseball contracts. Bright, general managers are more than happy to give you a bunch of money in a short term deal. I mean, we've seen that with older players to Matt Harvey got eleven million dollars for one year. Look at the Andrew mccutchen deal house. So there are players out there that are making money that does does not seem to you and your mind matching. Their performance. Well, sure on on the high side. I mean. Yeah. But in shorter term, it is amazing that Matt Harvey at eleven million dollars. Yeah. That's like shocking is it is not and then the average annual value on the mccutchen deal was was a lot. So I mean, I think the you're almost better off being a guy who's thirty years old. Looking for a three year deal? Right. As opposed to a guy who's twenty-five looking for an eight nine ten year deal like the general manager like yeah. Sure. Throw a bunch of money in short-term guy like the Mets like we've seen with jed Lowrie. And then the Phillies with mccutchen. I mean, that's the type of deal that that are more palatable to today's general manager than the one that's the ten year deal. So what does mccutchen making this coming year? Yeah. That they're just. He is making sixteen point six million dollars this year. He signed a three year essentially at three or fifty million dollar deal. Right. Three years fifty million dollars ranger mccutchen where he is at this point in his career. Thirty two years old thirty two to thirty five. Well, good for him. Now. It's probably still not what he was hoping for by is more than he was open for. I'm telling you right now. I mean, even Patrick Corbin got twenty three million a year. He's signed a six year one hundred and forty million dollar contract. A lot. Yeah. Of course. Well, he was the top target free agent pitching target as far as the guy that you would just sign right now the guy's via trade while Paulino Pollock was one. He was interesting because he signed with the dodgers, and he basically signed a six year sixty million dollar deal that was way below what he thought right everybody thought like five years eighty-five million. Sure. That's why I was surprised the Mets didn't get involved on that. Because I thought that that would be right up. Their alley heard Brodie van wagon and talk about how AJ Pollock was a fit for how many home runs you think. Daniel Murphy hit hits in Colorado this year. Be a lot of doubles too. I mean, I could see him. Yeah. I know he's north of thirty. Gotta be right. Yeah. Probably if he stays healthy healthy healthy, be stays healthy healthy. Craig kimbrel is still out there. Yeah. No kidding. A bunch of guys still out there. It is incredible. I mean, if you think about how late this is now we were talking about this one of the days, you were out, Jerry. And I because we get into the heavy sports. Right. So JD Martinez last year. Didn't sign until like February twenty eighth or something like that. Right. Secchia shows you that it's two weeks from now, and he was one of the bigger free agent contracts. Of course last year that happened in the off season. How late these things are going on. So yeah. Harper Machado is CBS sports network puts up the graphic kimbrel. Kaikal? Stocks and Adam Jones still out there. So and you're not going to see the same thing as you saw last year with that camp that they hadn't Brayden. They don't think that's going to happen. But I mean, these are you know, I wouldn't be surprised if the Mets or Yankees topped in even the Mets you think that they're done. I still think Brody is shrewd enough to one year deal with a guy. I'll just jump on his Dallas for a year to year. I wouldn't be I don't know about the wouldn't be shocked. They're done. Anything is possible guy. Yeah. I know. But I think they're right now, I think they're done. Sure are done. I think they'll be happy that they're done. They're happy with what they have. I also think that both these general managers understand that they could have a player at a rate that they've never seen before. Because of what the market is dictated a guy who wants to join a team will be happy to give it a go next year and get a one year deal, and they could bring them in like you saw with Mushtaq is last year. Right. Then maybe you've got some capital to get some assets at the trade. I think it's all about the trade deadline for these teams now for the Yankees and the Mets. Yeah. Sure. Yeah. I would I would agree. This agent for Manny Machado is tried so hard just on clothing Yankees. Look the Red Sox are out of it. The dodgers are out of it. He's gotta get somebody somewhat interested to try to drive the price up for his client. Can't use not going down that road. They keep these media types can keep saying the AKIs Yankees Yankees. But not for a long term deal. It's not happening such as the media types. I mean, oddsmakers are not the media types. They're they're trying to win some money make some money. So I still think there's absolutely zero chance.

"I I don't think he's been challenged enough at AAA that being said, I think in in your normal fifteen team home league, I'm probably leading yonder in any sort of competition with an overall prize though. So we start talking about NFC or TGIF BI. I'm gonna lean Peter because I think the upside is so great, you could spike something bigger. Yeah. Okay. So we're talking about eighty raw power that is probably seventy seventy five. Five in game already. Yeah. I I don't think that that that's necessarily out of bounds to make that distinction. I I'm sure it's jarring for some folks to even consider those two together. It's not it's not a gimmick because they share the same last name. They're not related, by the way. But I think you. No, they're not you need to go. Look at what Peter Alonzo's done, and what his profile is as a first base prospect and look at what yonder lonzo's done the last two years. I feel like coming off his big 2017 breakout. He held up pretty well last year with the with the regression that you would find reasonable. I thought he was perfectly fine. I think he'll be maybe a little bit better than he was in eighteen this upcoming year for yonder Alonzo, but not quite as good as seventeen which puts them at better than what you should really expect out of Alonzo are Peter outside of the upside, let's move on though because I'm I keep saying Alonzo going that doesn't help anybody. It's Peter and yonder, and we're we're we're preferring yonder in a redraft without an overall prize and. Team fifteen in shallower format and gimme the guy with the upside in Peter. Yep. You spent especially if I've got the bench spots to stash in because one of the things to you're going to have to stash him he's not going to be up opening day. And there's a chance with the pieces. Like they've added that he's not up when guys like yellow and Vlad come up either. So see that pushes me in the main event to stick even with the main event to stick with yonder in a fifteen minute, which I don't want to Peter on. So so we diverge a little bit there. But the bottom line is they're close keep an eye on them. If you lose out on one, you could probably go to the other. And and you're not gonna lose all that much. Let's talk about somebody. I do love here. And he is he's definitely in the gamble range took them go rhino her own happy that by the way. Why didn't you twitch stream that one because I didn't want to? And so good enough reason it was I was inputting all the stuff, and yeah, I figure it'd be a pretty difficult task for you to also on a smoker. And so I like to go out and smoke a lot. And I figured that twitch stream did not wanna come out and have cigarettes with no they they wouldn't have to do that. And you could you could just have an in the room like you would have had to have maybe a setup where it's just in the room. Yeah. I don't know what that would have been what if the, you know, separate, computer. Found my ipad from when I moved into my new house back in August..

"The last Saturday January these months just fly by before you know, it we're going to be sitting here doing Saturday shows in April and may talk and Yankees and Mets talking NBA playoffs for one team. The town talking NHL playoffs leads for one team in the NFL draft time just moves like like a like a rocket the air Robbie Rosenhaus and Tommy Luke, our pressing the very important buttons. Frank Sola will join me at twelve noon. A nice little under the radar moved by the Mets yesterday bringing in Justin Wilson because and the Yankees have this on lockdown. It's so important to build a solid bullpen even with a rotation where the Mets figure they're gonna get guys going deep in a games with degrom, and Syndergaard and Wheeler and maybe Stephen Matt you've gotta go six seven deep out of your bullpen. And last year when you try to diagnose what went wrong with the Mets you probably should start off with the offense. But the bullpens right up there. Now you at two guys Robert gazelle and Seth Lugo that you feel somewhat. Okay about they've already added, Wendy as they brought back Jairus familia. They signed Louis Avalon to a minor league contract. And they're going to give opportunities to guy like Paul seawall Zamora, Andrew Smith and Jacob brain. But they bring in Justin Wilson, the lefty who had a pretty good first half last year fell off a little bit the second half, but another left handed option, so potentially if guys performance spring training and come out of it healthy the Mets could go into the start of the year with two or three left haters in their bullpen. Justin Wilson, we'll be there assuming he's healthy. Lewis Avalon has a great chance to be there. We mentioned Daniels Amora even this Ryan or work with a scientist. I think he's a non roster invitee they've got options from the left side of that matters when you're in the National League east, and you probably have to get out Bryce Harper. You definitely have to get out. Freddy Freeman you have to get out want. Soto you need that left handed reliever. You could trust to come in. And get a big out. Now what I think is going to be interesting as the Mets slowly March toward spring training. And then eventually opening day is Seth Lugo. And I bring his name up for this reason. If I look at this met roster now and say, okay, what are my issues? Besides the fact that I love them to sign Bryce Harper Machado. That's not happening. One of my biggest issues, and I think right now brody's notify job of giving this team depth in the infield. Even in the outfield, they have depth. They're still worry about centerfield with while the garrison Brooks and a Jeff McNeil's ability to play the outfield, but they have a lot of versatility on this team. They traded for a guy like J D Davis who could be a breakout guy. He's always been a AAA star. So we're going to find out if he's a quadruple A player or if he can prove as a major leaguer, obviously the signing of jet. Larry Todd Frazier still here adding Robbie can macneil factor does Peter Alonzo ended up winning a spot. It TJ Rivera even exist anymore. We used to love him is he healthy. Can he play? The biggest concern I have is the rotation depth. They've got four guys that if. Healthy you penciled at the top of the rotation with Jake Noah Zack Wheeler and Stephen Matt's. After that. It's a crapshoot Jason Vargas got booed very heavily at that season ticket dinner a few nights ago, Koros waltzed less potential, but then you're talking about Chris flex and Kyle dowdy or they picked up at the rule five draft of this guy. Walter lock it who they traded for for Kevin Becky Hector, Santiago who they saw to a minor league deal. You're probably going to have to have Ted starting pitchers at least during the course of one hundred and sixty two game season. Do you feel good about that depth? Now. Let me bring it back to Seth Lugo. If you feel like there is enough depth of that bullpen, you can move Lugo into that swing spot a guy who could be the fifth starter or six starter. And a guy who could get big outside of the bullpen. Right now. Unless Seawold or rain or Smith all of those group of guys that we've seen a lot of over the last year or two we've seen a lot of those guys Tim Peterson. And all those guys who the Mets would throw out there for a lot of innings the last year to two years unless a few of them step up. I still would prefer to see Lugo out of the bullpen. I would love to see gazillion. Lugo familiar Diaz from the right side as guys that are sort of in that circle of trust. If you Lugo out of the rotation area, you're cutting a guy out from that from that circle of trust. If they had ended. Brad brock. If they had added even hunter Strickland, which they haven't at probably lean more towards, you know, what turn Luca into the rotation depth. I just don't trust him Peterson drew Smith Paul SeaWorld enough to say turn Lugo into the rotation depth. We'll see what the Mets decide to do. But they have certainly improved this bullpen on paper. That's the key word is one thing about bullpens. You never know. That's why the achey bullpen is so good because most of the time it is you never know the Yankees have in my opinion three guys in their bullpen. That are actually I knows. They're not you never knows there. I know and that's not a knock towards Jonathan holder atom veto and Chad green who I'd still lean towards the one hundred percent. Sure category. But Zach Britton even Matanzas as much as Yankee fans of turned on him at times look at the overall numbers the last five years, you have a pretty good idea is good and our oldest Chapman those three guys. I know. I think Chad greens get very close to the I know and certainly out of veto got contracts. And you wanna think he's an I know but look at Tom became we last year. Tommy, Kaley after the trade was pretty good for the he's maybe not as good as he was with the White Sox. And then last year was so bad. He ended up in the minor leagues. So you don't know about Tommy keenly. You still don't know about Jonathan holder. I want to move Chad green into the I know you probably could because it has been two good years in a row. So you can actually move them into that area. And that's how bad to have four guys that you know about. But these bullpens man, we watch baseball. We don't wear. This sport is going. They're important. Even with the Mets because I know you look at the Yankee rotation and Severino is the exception because when Severino is going he gets better as the game goes on. He could give you seven or eight innings if you so choose you want to be careful with Tanaka. You're probably going to want to be careful with James Paxton due to the health issues that he's had over the last few years CC is never going to be more than a five inning guy at this point can give you innings. No doubt. But even a met both a rotation where you feel like you have all these aces. How often does a pitcher kgo eight innings in a game? It's still a rarity. So you're still going to need two three four relievers to get through a game. Even when you get a really good start. And that's why bullpen depth is. So important. But I like the move, and I don't think it's a contradiction in one breath to say, hey, I'm disappointed that the Mets are not acting like the big market team. They should they should be in on Manny Machado. They should be in on Bryce Harper. It's not a contradiction to say that which I just said, but also say, you know, I kind of like this off season. I think they've gotten better can you? Call up a nit-pick and say, I didn't want jed Lowrie our rather of side is drubel Cabrera and then use that extra money for another reliever. Sure. Yeah. I think you can. But overall the surface when you look at this roster. They have depth which I like, I think they have a balanced lineup which I really like they have a lot of quality hitters in this lineup. They may not have a guy you fear. I don't know of Robinson co at this point in his career qualifies. That I don't know. If Michael Conforto is been consistent enough to qualify as that and Peter Lonzo hasn't played the major league. So he certainly can't qualify as that. But they have a lot of. A good capable hitters, and I said this the other day, and I think this is the most interesting spring training story line for the Mets. Number one, at least for me. And that's Alonzo. It's Ken Peter Alonzo walk into spring training hit the cover off the ball and take the first base shop, and then have Brody give it to him after he earns it because I think all of us are going to remain skeptical about this general manager, even though he's a converted agent. Not thinking about service time. And so if Peter Alonzo leaves, no doubt and goes into spring training, and it's three fifty and it's seven or eight home runs. It's going to be obvious that they're thinking about service time if they send this guy to AAA because the Alonzo factor is this the Mets have themselves a legitimate star prospect, and we know what those guys can turn into not usually with the Mets. But look at judge is one of the best players in baseball. Two years ago. Aaron judge was not guaranteed. The right field job. He was competing for the right field job with Erin Hicks at the time. Think about that. Now. Now, they're the two reliable outfielders and Aaron judge at a camp he made the team and the rest is history. I mean, we we all see what Aaron judge has become an certainly I'm not Peter allows us half an hour. I'd be thrilled. But there is something exciting about a position player prospect with that kind of I need to see his at-bat potential because when you think about the position players the Mets have developed over the last. No, no, not the last their entire history. Think about the list. Darrell strawberry is the I gotta stop and watch his at bat guy. And certainly they develop David Wright, they developed Jose Reyes and they develop guys like that who turned out to be pretty darn good players. So it is exciting to have the I gotta watch his at bat. He hit the ball five hundred feet prospect. That's Darrell strawberry. That's it. So I'm very intrigued to watch him. And I'm excited to tell you then I'm taking the Saturday showdown. A florida. We'll do what spring training show in early March from port St. Lucie, Florida. Let me take a quick break. We'll come back and we'll get right to your phone calls at eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six I mentioned Frank. I sold is gonna join me at twelve nude. "Number's eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six Selena holds Phil will lead it off. So good morning guys. Thank you for taking my call. Being a Yankees fan. I just see an opportunity here you guys. Matt salary. This is one fifty eight. I was reading this morning. Tweet insurance settlement between David Wright and anticipating saving maybe eighteen twenty million more. I'm just before he comes back this year. I mean, that's an opportunity for thirty million this year, you got next year you'd be for bolt cesspits and these guys signs, but after that, you don't resigned estimates and your salary is a different than last year. You have a window here with the pitchers. Kono's next to threes being more viable than is fourth and fifth year. You have a window here. Because if you got one of these two guys, you would be as good as anybody in the National League, probably better than solely solely we know that and we also know it's not happening, and we can scream and yell about it every day, we can get facts everyday, why it should happen. And we talk about the insurance that we could talk about the wilpon. Do we could talk about we can bring up every day to a blue in the face. The reality is it's not happening. They're not making that move. I wanted to make that move. Joe wants him to make that move. It's not happening, and it sucks that it's not happening. But it's not happening. Brenton Brooklyn Brett. Morning guys. I'm not buying anything. There's selling yesterday because the facts are the facts like the last caller said the Mets don't project to be under that one fifty four point four million dollars payroll and their forty million dollars below the luxury tax threshold. They have plenty of room to sending a guy like my shadow or Harper wilpon gonna blame it on suspects that we really have a thirty million dollar player of what the facts staters, but the facts at the Washington, National they're paying Stephen Strasburg thirty eight million dollars a year. Max Scherzer thirty seven million dollars a year, and they just handed out one hundred forty million dollars to Patrick Corbin. It's sickening that the Washington National seems to be a bigger market than we are. If we put one of these guys on our team, we could instantly become. Yeah. No. We get it. I don't buy with their celebrate. I don't about why he cut out. Jeff wilpon may have been. You mentioned spewing that guy grew when we've expressed it over and over again, I don't buy the financial aspect would. I do buy is that this is a good baseball team. Or at least a team has a chance to be a good baseball team. One thing I like about this team is their depth position player wise, and the vice really that they have no doubt about it. And what's great about that? What I like about it is we made a comment earlier when we were talking about the Dinwiddie injury. How with the Mets you expect injuries? And you expect them to be bad. They are equipped to deal with injuries. And I'm going to get Brody credit for this because I rip them a little bit about a month ago. Brody said we have to eliminate Fs. I think in ways he has with position players. He's eliminated the F of let's use Peter Alonso. If Peter Alonzo becomes the first baseman deep enough right now, Joe where if Peter Alonzo is the first baseman Todd Frazier may be the first baseman Lowry's playing third could be even see canot playing first base that is not going to happen because Brody Jody Scheckter does the second baseman thought. Even thought no not now, everyone else may move suggest McNeil could play first baby. So I think they have put themselves in a position where the deep enough with an versatility with and not super relying on an F kidding. You know what I mean? Yes, now, here's the other side of that were they haven't protected themselves. They have not protected themselves from injuries in the starting rotation. They have four starting pitchers that to different degrees. You feel good about degrom number one Wheeler Syndergaard to three and then Stephen Matt's here kind of in the middle of that could he have a breakout year. Maybe could he get hurt two weeks in shore? Then there's a huge drop off. 'cause now you're talking about Jason Vargas Oreos wall and Hector Santiago who Brody called an all star yesterday at the dinner. He was years ago. He was also just signed a minor league contracts. I don't think of him as well. Well, one of the rule five guys is a potential star to what are the guys they got Kevin Becky trade is a potential starter. That's not a lot of great depth. So in that aspect, they are super light Joe on those four guys being healthy and being effective. They are they are. And you don't one of them's getting hurt at some point. It's baseball the Red Sox last year. And I would bear talked about this. And I mentioned this a couple of months ago, we we're talking about rotations. The Red Sox us thirteen starting pitchers last year. The Yankees used a bunch of starting last year. It's common. Lou in Brooklyn, Lou good morning gentleman before I get to my face ballpoint pen. I could not be happy at the jets hired. Adam gates. I tell you. One. He is not a leader of a team and two he makes no adjustments. He sticks his game plan. No matter what you probably need less adjustments. Then he coached fifteen. The three teenagers enemy good. You popped up about Brian Florez being, you know, not at don't listen to. Conway. Fifty because he praises division with the jet dolphins and bills. You're gonna you're gonna have to play one or two games on the one. "Feel bad for you. Dinwiddie already. Listen, here's the reality. All right. This is the reality of this league. Victor Oladipo is out for the season in Indiana. When Victor was out earlier this season. The Pacers went seven four the Lakers are without LeBron James there without Lonzo ball. They went outrage on Rondo the rockets are without clink Capella there without Chris Paul the raptors give Kawhi Leonard maintenance as every other day in this league, injuries happen and guys have to step. All right. All right now that doesn't mean I'm out here cocky, I'm not I'm nervous happy about. Of course, not I'm not happy. But I'm also not going to lick my wounds cut off your thumb and give it to Spencer Spencer on Twitter. He was kind. But he should be fine. All right. I gotta tell you. When when Spencer tweeted back at me, I felt better not because he reacted to me. But because I felt. Not even that it wasn't even that it was that the fact he tweeted about his injury and said, I'll be fine made me feel okay. Standard. But in this world of sports, especially the NBA we're injuries. A prominent. I mean, just look around the league zeppelin, injuries are everywhere. Every sport you have to overcome it. Good teams, overcome it. They have overcome the carousel avert injury. They have to overcome this. And that means Shabazz Napier needs to step up. That means Allan crabs. Gotta get his ass back and actually be worth nineteen million dollars a year. That means the ngelo Russell continues to have to play at a high level, and what more important any of this when they play the New York Knicks in Brooklyn, you beat them when you played the Chicago Bulls in Brooklyn next week. You beat them beat the teams on your schedule get healthy and March, and let's go back gonna feel bad for myself. There's a difference between the reaction we had when Matt Harvey needed. Tommy John surgery when Jacob degrom gave us the injury scary year ago, where carousel avert that was something where you you were scared about the long term. This is a thumb injury. He's going to be fine is going to be back. I have a different attitude that I had that when lavar it went down and certainly when. Went down, and you and I are freaking out for like two days straight worried. Right, right. Well, also met fans, and we know how these injury things seemed always go they seem to be worse than they are. But in that case it turned out to be. Okay. Well, that was that was the exception. I'll say it seems like most of the time it becomes worse than it. Normally is right. But this is generally is one of those things where the nets are just a playoff team right now, they're entrenched. They're up by four games over a playoff spot. And let's face it. The seven eight nine ten teams suck in Eastern Conference. There's no excuse no, excuse guys need to step up. You need to beat the team supposed to beat and by March fifteenth. It's a big day March fifteenth the I watch indeed all right? Everybody's back. Everybody's healthy. And let's go now, I got this news as I was sitting down for the med hot stove dinner. Right. So my brain was a little distracted, right? Bandwagon was doing his thing. And I gotta tell you this is about Brody. And this is not a surprise Brody is very good with the Michael CD's guys. Like, he's smooth. I look at Brodie van wagon in I think one word, smooth smooth. That's what he is. Absolutely. Yeah. He knows what he's doing. He knows what he's doing. And he was peppered not by me. I didn't ask any questions, but he was peppered by season. Ticket holders about Bryce Harper. Not as much Manny Machado, but about Bryce Harper. Look we heard what Jeff wilpon said yesterday. He's got. Jeff wilpon insurance is covering most of. Aw. You want to mention that look Jeff wilpon say this nicely. Not good with the microphone, well, Brodie van wagon. Yes. Well, of course, so like, I said, smooth, he smooth. So when Brody was selling what he was selling last night. Even if you still say, I don't care what Bryce Harper he presented it in a much cleaner way than the owner debt because for the owner to insult the fan base by saying how many teams have a couple of thirty million dollar guys. Jeff the Washington nationals do in fact, they're both in their rotation. And they may sign Bryce Harper. Anyway, that would be a third so don't try to cite what other teams do your New York freaking team, especially he left out. What you added Joe insurance is going to be. Of course, the way Brody sold. It was this. A Conforto is going to have a great year. You guys love him, right crowds. Like, yeah. We love them. What he's you know it. Well, Jerry love in the first half of the know somebody mentioned that. Well, the crowd did react in many ways. Jason Vargas got booed, Don. Smith took a beating, of course. But Brody sales Michael Conforto. It's going to be an everyday player, and we all agree with that. Brandon nimmo's the leadoff hitter. Even when he slumping he gets on base. We've got one the garrison kiam Braxton Jeff McNeil's going to get at bats. And who knows no end assessment is at some point comes back. But his answer about the money was this. And there's no way for us to really know. Even though I don't believe it. I choose not to believe it that because he was asked. Hey, should the Mets spent like a big market team in the mid span like New York, and what was his dad's threat? What was answer was all the people on this day as had other jobs. We chose to come here. We didn't come here because we had to Allard Baird left. The Red Sox. I left being a, you know, a super agent. This is Brodie talking. Well, we chose to be here because we believe in the vision, and that money has been added to other departments. So when they've asked for things like an analytical department, which I guess was not as prominent when sandy was there. They've added to it as one of those things we can't count as fans, and I'm choosing not to buy it. But Brody at least gave answers other than other teams. Don't have multiple thirty million dollars a year players, which comes across small and pathetic. So I didn't buy everything Brody was nationals. Do exactly right Strasbourg. And sherzer, right. And they could add Bryce Harper. How about the angels they have trout who also? Yeah. But they don't count. Just throwing it out there. So Brody tries to give answers about it. But there really is. No good answer the Mets since the Bernie Madoff scandal. Don't spend the way we as fans want them to spend. And we can scream about it every single day we can complain about it every single day. I don't know if it's ever gonna change unless the wilpon win the lottery or they sell the team. I don't think it's ever going to change with that said I am excited about this roster. And I think that while Brody took some risks during this off season, specifically trading the prospects he traded to Seattle. This is clearly in my is a better roster today than it was a few months ago. And yeah, yeah. Look, I expect them to be contending all year minimum for a playoff spot to me. That's the that's a given in my mind. No question. I think what is going to be very interesting because Brody gave an answer last night. And he's given this before this is in breaking any new ground, but it was about Peter Alonzo because Peter Alonzo not according to the Mets, not according to MIR you, according to MLB pipeline, they say Peter Alonzo is the best first base prospect at all. Baseball. Okay. He is a legitimate. All right. That's good to hear. It's good. We saw what he did last year at AA took them awhile to adjust AAA eventually. He started hitting him do it here. Well, yes. If Peter Alonzo goes into Florida goes down to port St. Lucie and hits and wins. The first base job. He's gotta be here on opening day. And there's gonna be a skepticism all of us have that he won't be around her opening day because of the money because of the. Right service time. Now Brody said, no, no, no, no, no, no. I'll former agent okay are going to take the twenty five best players north training. And I want to believe that I wanted to believe Brian Cashman when he said that about the twenty five guys, but we all thought about gleyber Torres, and well as you go to bring them north. We wanted to think that about Noah Syndergaard a couple of years ago, even the New York Yankees, everybody thinks about this service time thing, and you could call up today and say, well, they're smart to think about the service time thing wouldn't you want to control the player for an extra year. Of course. I get it. But I am curious if they get a backup his words because if Peter Alonzo wins that first base job is he going to be the first baseman opening day. And I think it's fair to say me like most I'm skeptical. Of course, skepticism that the actions will back up the words because in some ways, the actions haven't backed up the words, we're going to be in on everybody hasn't fully been backed up because they haven't been in on Manny Machado or. Bryce Harper as we just discussed so on a lesser scale. I am curious if Alonzo wins the job does he get the job or on the job? But let's think of excuse me. We'll see. Right. We'll see image, right? So that's what I'm curious about. I think that's going to be one of the more interesting storylines and spring things they actually back it up. Did Brody ask you about are you up in your season tickets to a little pain a little more? Did he mentioned that to you at all? He didn't mention that. But what I thought was a funny moment. And he's a funny guy who you speak to him alone. He was pounded by people. I was never gonna more than one time. I think every season ticket holder wanted to meet him, but he made a comment because he was trying to be interactive with the audience. Okay. And he says to the audience, you know, how many guys and gals have been season ticket holders for a long time. Off the air. Everybody's clap. He says, hey, how many people here are first time met season ticket holders. I don't think one person raised their hand. So he says, well, I guess my off season. Moves didn't excite everybody. Yeah. No kidding Brody. Now. You were good, right? But that was moving the needle that. I gotta go buy season. Tickets Robinson co is not selling season. No. Neither is Wilson Ramos. No. And those are good at this. Great Lowery is not selling season ticket. Oh, if you're making moves to sell season tickets you approached it all wrong, right, right? If you're making moves to win, which is the key. The key should be winning not selling tickets. It really it really should be a combination of the two. Yes, if you are the organization. Yes, it should be. We're not worried about as fans, we're not worried about them selling season tickets. They are. But they should also understand that if you win, and if you signed the guy, you know, if you signed a guy like Bryce that people are going to actually get excited about that in may actually by season. If you did everything you did plus added Bryce Harper, you two dumbbells. Correct. And got the LA better. Right. But none of those moves are to sell tickets. You got a flat out win. You gotta go out to win. And this team has had to bad seasons in a row after the two really good seasons are all and we'll see if the Brody Magic's going to work, but it's you know, it's always a fun night with the season ticket holder vendors, very cool for us to be there and hang out with all, you know, they used to be saying the all right now. Van wagon. Omar maniacal is the biggest applause he's over with the crowd as they say, it's a big hand. I should be lows Omar Allard Baird. And then the analytics guy, that's just what I call him. Yeah. Got ridge or got to got any kind of personality. No, no. He's an astronaut. That's why I I can't imagine a guy Xanax as any personality whatsoever seems guy. But now he wasn't brody's got the person. Look again, smooth. Brodie van wag I look at Brodie van wagon and he's smooth. Well, whether that's going to translate into a big time GM, I don't know. But he is smooth. And if you look at the lower your smooth, he's very smooth. If you look at the last minute with peace and love. In different ways. It was not smooth sandy was not smooth and more. Is a very like to me when I think of a regular, dude. Yeah. Yeah. Good guy wanted to guys hang out with him. You'll you know all about that. And I think Omar, and he certainly feels this way. Now, he said it last night. He said it many times before the scout law. He doesn't really want to be the GM I understand. But Omar was never smooth and sandy wasn't. So this is a smooth. I think Steve Phillips was actually pretty. Yeah. I don't know if you've the smooths Brody. No, he wasn't. But I, but he's yeah. I'll give you that. I think brody's the smoothest they've ever happen. Probably. Jerry Hudsucker Saint Joe mcilvaine. Yes. Al harris. I'm ben. Say well, you know, what Brody knows this because he said it he's selling a game. He smooth. It's all backed up by the Don. That's what it's backed up by. So as smoothie, and I found in Iraq gauging and entertaining, even funny, right, right? Next year at this time the Mets are coming off a ninety loss season. We will not be buying what he's selling. He may not be moving out through smoothly. Coming up a little bit later on Brian Billick will join us. We'll talk football with him. We'll give you chance at winning tickets to see the who. And we'll get to your calls beningo and Roberts in the midday. Let's say you just bought a house bad news is you're one step closer to becoming your parents. Which means you're going to start telling your kids to clean up before the cleaning lady comes doesn't.

"Sixty six is the phone number hit, the one o'clock CNBC comes your way. Don't Kramer, Ernie Acosta on the other side of the glass. Of course, a big football Friday probably best football weekend in a year with the divisional rounds. Call banks will join us at eleven. It is regular weekly spot. We'll have one of the assistant general managers of the jets will be joining us today, mini meta. He'll join us about the eleven forty and we appreciate the jets given us permission to have many shine. And then we'll do a little baseball as well. With John Hayman. We'll talk about the big met signing Wayne will Manny and Bryce ever signed a contract, bro. Our you. I'm very good because as much as I'm still angry about the jet higher. Michael ownership doesn't act like a big market team. And that does frustrate me, and they should be in on guys. Like, Bryce Harper. Manny Machado goes without saying I was very pleasantly surprised yesterday. Larry because I signing. Well, it took me a while to try to make sense of it. Because he's a good baseball player. We'll start there. I know he was represented by Brodie van wagon. So people like to bring that up and sure I'm sure familiarity has a little bit to do with it. And he is thirty four years old. So it's not like he's twenty five, but he's coming off a year last year in which he was really good job in ninety nine runs at twenty three home runs had an old PS over eight hundred it really good year last year. 'cause I showing the Eastern Conference standings NBA, look who's in the seven spot. We dropped from six though, lousy say Miami. You better look at that. Pretty good. I know I love I love it the way I'm sorry. I didn't meet the jump is the biggest thing for the pistons loss. So the net right is growing. Are you go, but jed Lowrie is a good baseball player. It's a simple statement. And it's true because it's backed up by his career is a good baseball player. But jed Lowry's been a second baseman for the Oakland as he was an all star second baseman for the Oakland A's. So I started to think well, what the hell they gonna do. I mean, they side Robinson can. But I think what they're doing. And I like this is instead of settling in centerfield by signing an Adam Jones, who's probably under a decline by signing. AJ Pollock who's never healthy. They are saying let's get quality baseball players. Let's grow the versatility. And let's just go that route instead of settling in center field. And I think what this also does. And I said this year last week think gets even more. So today last week Jeff McNeil is going to be more of an outfielder. Right. And he isn't it? Center. Well, I would probably say a quarter outfield and then Conforto Nimmo play center because I doubt you're moving a guy that has very little experience in the outfield to center we've seen Conforto played center. We've seen nibble we have and you've got two guys right now who when they're not starting are very good defensive players to come off the bench in kiam Braxton and one lagaras, this is a very versatile baseball team where you can every single day there's gonna be a different lineup, and there's going to be a different defensive alignment, and it also gives you protection against Peter Alonzo not being any good because we don't know what your Alonzo. They also might might want to keep them down for the service type thing to well. I hate that. Well, I know. To deal with that. Yeah. This is a business with the Mets. You're right. A few weeks ago someone called up and asked that question to us. Instead of you worried about Lonzo not being here on opening day and my answer because of construction on the roster was he's going to be here on opening day. Now, I'm not sure exactly because they've given themselves the ability to say, all right? We're gonna play and figure out how they want to align. It let's say Larry at first base. Robbie Canoas second. I'm Ed Rosario at short Todd Frazier. Jeff McNeil third or maybe a different alignment they've given themselves that ability to play someone other than Alonzo Dom Smith at first base. So if we were ripping I was rubbing Brody that there are too many ifs on this team. He's eliminated one of the Fs. Yeah. By bringing in lower yet. Then if it doesn't work at first base negative. If you've got a guy like Lowry if Todd Frazier continues to stink like last year or can't stay healthy. You've got your Lowry. You've got Jeff McNeil. You've got two guys defensively in center field garrison Brockton who made it you don't have to rely on if McNeil's play and left, let's say and Conforto is playing center. So I really liked them. Would I prefer them sign Bryce Harper, Paul? Of course, I mean that goes without saying, but jed Lowrie is a good baseball player. And so for that standpoint. How can I be upset that they signed a good base? He's a good player. I he's thirty four twenty eight Greg. So when he's twenty nine, but I mean, still, I look I sorta move, and I was like, wow. That's a surprising move. Well, I remember a few days ago. John Hayman will join us. Well, John Heyman said the Mets are interested in Brian dosier and my first reassigned with the nationals inning ended up signing a one year deal with Washington. And my first reaction was oh, okay. Bryan. Brian dosier has less versatility than jed Lowrie. Brian only experience a second base. If the Mets would assign them they would've treated in the same way as Lowry, but he'd be learning new positions Lowry's played third. He's actually. Sure, I was very surprised she we drove in almost two hundred runs slash ninety nine. Rod a great year. There's a reason why the Oakland A's had success one of which was Chris Davis was their bullpen. Right. And another factor was jet. La. And he does it have to gold twenty three ninety nine. No, no. If he goes fifteen seventy eight. An every day be contributes to team that you know, makes the playoffs. How about that? That's that's that's what that's what I'm looking out with the Mets. I think they can make the playoffs issue. Why not why not for what they've done which I love is. They've given themselves such depth especially in the infield that if Todd Frazier. They've got the Bill Robinson can right now. The starting lineup to you right now. Batting order. But how do you see the starting lineup? Breaking right now is the catcher. Well. Yeah. Obvious obviously first basis who right now, I think right now, I lean towards one of the veterans that it wouldn't be Alonzo Dom Smith, unless Lowery could all what I don't know which way they're going to line it up like who they feel more comfortable playing first base. But I think you're looking at a four man infield of jed Lowrie Robinson can Allama Desario ratio on this Alonzo goes to camp, and tears it up any outfields McNeil Conforto in against a right handed pitcher. I'd lean that way, I'd lean that way, but again things can change so quickly if keenum Braxton's hidden. Got about him Garissa sitting. I think there's going to be a different line of every day. And it's going to drive us nuts. Sometimes because we're going to say why is he starting this guy? Right. You're going to be looking at a different configuration almost every single day. Whether it's playing the match ups, whether it's lefty righty. I would say it's who's hot. But we know that managers. They don't care about hotness. They don't look at that. But I think it protects them from Lonzo not being ready now, I hope Alonzo is ready because Peter Alonzo's got star potential, and he's young and be for the next five years, and that's great. So ideally, I'd love Peter Alonzo to go to Florida hit three fifty hit eight home runs Butch huskey style. But then unlike Butch huskey actually at the major league level and win a job. I'd say Aaron judge Aaron Jones had the winners right field job two years ago, which is odd to think about Peter Alonzo shoots only be Aaron judge compare them Darren judge, I'm just comparing two hundred Jody aspect that. He has to have a good spring training to win the job. Not that you're gonna turn to Aaron judge the baseball, right? But I think they protect themselves in case he doesn't, and I think that's to me. The most interesting storyline now going into spring training in a few months. Peter Lonzo what does he have to do to get that first base job in the guy? We forget about and I know why we forget about him is down Smith like he's also a fat. It's easy to forget about Don. Smith. The forefront of my mind Dom Smith. But if Dom Smith in spring training hits the cover off the ball who knows maybe he's getting time at first I'm not confident about him. I'm not either. But they they'd given themselves depth. That's what they've done like they're back that their backup shortstop can even be Jedi lower your ideal. Right. I've taken a few calls already saying well who their backup shortstop to yesterday? It was Louis ski or may now. For a short period of time. It's jed Lowrie now. Hopefully, they make other moves. I think it'd be great to add another arm out of the bullpen. I think it'd be great to add another arm to give themselves rotation depth. They did add Hector Santiago a few days ago, who's just got assigned to John. Yeah. Relief pitcher, that's another minor league contract. Yeah. Because if you look at his success over the last few years bouncing around the league, he is a quality left handed relievers. So now you've got to him in Zamora who could potentially make this team. I prefer Andrew Miller Miller is not New York cardinals. Right. So that's not happening. But it's another nice under the radar move. And brought he's been very active. I mean, you look at home. He's done things. Bryce, but he has done. Well, that's the separation. Right, right. I like individually what he's done. I think the Mets are a better team today than they were at the end of last year. It definitely would they've done is. They've added a lot of professional hitters to this lineup. And I love that. And I think that's great. But from an ownership perspective, they continue to be and have that mentality of being a mid to small market team. So that's always going to be frustrating. But like you said you just want to win that. And I think the Mets capable of what I do to the big question is going to be for the teams inside this division are any of these teams adding Manny Machado such as the Philadelphia Phillies are the Phillies adding Bryce Harper are the nationals retaining Bryce operating that's going to go a long way, the telling us the balance of power at least going into the season for this division. But as of right now, I think the Mets have improved more than anybody in this done a good job. I I completely agree with that. I think they really have. I'm optimistic about the Mets going into here. I really am. I got to see what the over under is this year. Maybe I'll dabble with that. You have to be determined. It's I bet you it's going to be over eighty one though. I would agree about eighty. I'll say eighty three and a half. Yeah. I think there's that's what I'm going to say for the Mets. There are a few encouraging things number one the off season. Obviously they've improved themselves. They've added a top notch closer. Ed, wendy. A bunch of professional hitters the bullpen with familiar, but I think there are a few other things that was already giving you optimism even before Brody took the job. And that was the pitching obviously at the top that we saw last year. Jacob degrom take his star to a whole 'nother level, obviously. And we saw Zack Wheeler finally. We went out in the lobby. Definitely did. And I think there's always this this optimism with Noah Syndergaard. Who'd he wasn't bad last year. He wasn't healthy to all year. But he wasn't what maybe we were like them to be what he was pretty good pitcher last you hope that he can be the Zack Wheeler from last year. Jacob degrom front last year. Sorority had that with starting pitching. And then you've got out good baseball players. And so I I liked that movie made me happy now he's gonna move. So thank you to Brodie van wagon for at least for a little bit changing the mood that I had concerning the jet head coaching. Thank you, very much change it that much. But I mean, he did a little bit. There was a glimmer a little bit of a glimmer. Yes. We'll talk more baseball later with John Heyman. We mentioned McNeish meta will join us in the eleven o'clock hour, Carl banks will talk to us. And of course, we'll preview division weekend. In the National Football League. It has been in going Roberts on a football Friday. No an ad from save money on car insurance. By bundling home.

"Do you have McNeil? Now, you can no you have Frazier. And I don't know what they're doing at first base. I'm assuming they're going to try to give that opportunity to Peter Alonzo. Right. Yes. So that's part of this jed Lowrie deal. Here is they don't know if Peter Alonzo is going to be ready in going to hit the ground running at the major league level and adding more infield depth with guys you can play all sorts of positions are well that's going to help, and that's the whole eliminating the thing that Brody van wagon is talked about in the past. I I don't mind this deal at all especially two years as best to offensive seasons. Have come in the last couple of years surprising to me that he would come here given the nature of what's going on in the infield. Like, all right. So he basically played an entire year with the as and had good numbers. Good solid numbers. Okay. I wouldn't a guy like that. And if you're paying him ten million dollars a year, wouldn't you expect that that guy would be a starter? She's high bitchy plays every day. I bet he plays close to every everyday. Larry like, not be the same move them all over the place. Yeah. Or the, you know, you're going to see positional flexibility from just about everybody outside of. I mean Robertson might have to move over to first base at some point in his tenure here as a med. So maybe that starts if if. Alana's could play first and Lowry Keble third. I'm hoping that Peter Lonzo puts all that to rest than these other four guys figure out how to play the other three positions and Alonzo's going to be out there every single game. But I, you know, I don't I don't know about his splits and all that other stuff, and we got to see whether or not he can hit but both right and left handed housing. It's a curve ball. I mean, all this nonsense. And I guess this is just a backup plan just in case that that doesn't work out. Yeah. Well, I think you'll probably see all things if they worked out the way you wanted them to I think you'd see more Lowry than you would Frazier. Right. I mean with the way that Todd Frazier kind of had a year to forget last year or do they or do they go to spring training and decide to move somebody else who knows? I don't know. I don't necessarily know that this thing is a done deal. Just yet in terms of finishing product of what we're going to see for the Mets come two thousand and nineteen but it's a fluid to the top situation. Sure. So let me ask you this. Because I saw some of this reaction yesterday about with the with the Mets. So I guess the combination of casino and Lowry's contracts ad in their mid thirties. This year is going to be thirty million dollars could be Bryce Harper or Manny Machado. Yeah. I know that's a longer deal but Machado or maybe Harper gets along deal from Washington. I don't know. But I don't see. You know, I don't see the first of all the Yankees would be idiotic assign Machado to any sort of long term major deal. That's why I believe that that ain't happening close to happening. And that's why I do think that maybe the Phillies who all of a sudden become nervous because they lost Bryce Harper. And they're gonna go after Machado. Maybe he'll get more money that way. But man that both going to be in the. And it really is. I don't think that Brody van wagon and had a bad off season. I think that he's filled a lot of holes there's things to be excited about he made a bunch of changes. I thought that was good that team needed some changes. But it is a little bit of a tough sell when you say the things that he said, you know, anything's possible. We're going to go in and do amazing things fluid to the top. And then you see the two top free agents, go to other places within the division that aren't as big of a market as the New York Mets, and they're spending the same amount of money. Maybe for two guys who are in the middle of their careers or towards the end. Right. That will not. Remotely add up to what one of those players could give you. Yeah. I get it. Then their former clients to which people raises an eyebrow. It's like what are we doing? This could be said about, you know, a lot of the guys that are going to be run through here in some way, shape or form. They do have a connection either to Brody himself or to the agency that he was working for right? Yeah. I mean, I. That's what you don't. When they when they decided to hire the agent. This is going to be part of the discussion. You know that? Sure. All right, Steve Hackensack, what's happening. Hey, fomer minority like Haskins, and I like him too. But the giants big gotta look at Cuyler Murray. He's got a better arm than Atkins throws in and out of the pocket is more accurate than Atkins, almost like, a better athlete. Russell wilson. How could you could you imagine him in the backfield with saquon to have to take a look at him to boomer while I did I say that they shouldn't. And by the way, we didn't get confirmation that he was going to actually go into the NFL draft. I don't necessarily know that it's officially at. Anyway, I it sounds like that's the way it's going. Of course, you're going to do your job on column Murray. And also remember one other thing things don't work out for Kyle Murray. You can always go to baseball. Yeah. I know. And that's something to keep in the back of your mind. Here's one of the things that every single one of these young quarterbacks are asked when they are coming out of college. How much do you love football? How much is football number one in your life easily answer? Listen, I was. Drafted by the as a bunch of money. And I'm sitting here an answer your question. I mean. Miami. I made that choice. Things will work out for me here. I could always go and play for the as right, but I don't think he wants to fail. You know? Of course, he doesn't wanna fail. And I do think that you know, what cliff Kingsbury said about collar when Carl was in college was kind of just like a a respect thing given respect to a kid that obviously has had a great college career. And who is a frequent freakish athlete what you'll hear about column Murray is that he may be listed at five ten, but he's not. But you're going to hear is that he's one hundred ninety five pounds. But he's really not. I mean, he's tiny. Now. I don't wanna be that guy. Too small. He can't play in the NFL because I mean, he's heard that his entire life. You're probably too small to play college too small do this just won't do that. And now all of a sudden these Eisman trophy award winner, and he can get taken these kids play out of the shotgun now, and they're they're away from the line of scrimmage. They find the seems it's just a natural thing for the natural athlete to be able to do. But he's just so small. I mean, it's like fell. You know? And I I know we've seen a couple of big twelve quarterbacks get it done now. But we're also talking about defenses that are with behemoths on them right with a kid who's five eighth back there. I mean, it's amazing that Dwayne Haskins by the way has fifteen college games. I think he started in fourteen of them. Maybe maybe a few more than that might have played in eight games his previous season. But when you watch his film, and you watch him in the pocket. What you see is a fundamentally sound player that looks the part that plays. The position makes all the throws does has some maneuverability. But that's that does not. That's not the reason why I want him. I want him because of the way he looks in the pocket and the way he commands is football team. Interestingly enough, and I forgot about this until yesterday somebody pointed it out actually met twain hack Haskins in his dad on the sideline of a university of Maryland football game. Now, see what did the bullet school down in Potomac down there? So he was visiting on his recruiting trip and everybody at Marilyn thought that he was coming to Maryland. He originally committed to the university of Maryland, which I thought was awesome. And then you find out late in the process, he decided to go to Ohio State somebody who's thinking about whole life was Ohio State. So it wasn't surprising. But yeah, I guess maybe they weren't as interested in these want him to be I ended up going there. But but yeah, I remember meeting the kid on the sideline. And I was like man this kid's eighteen. I never looked like that. Yeah. I was like a skinny rail when I got to school and this kid looks like he was ready to pick up the ball and go play right now. And that's what that's kind of what I saw this whole entire year. And then he comes remember that great game against Maryland. Beat them. You had a great game in that game. I don't know. There's just something about him physically looking at him. And watching him play the position on my man scout, it'd be awesome and a giant uniform. You really would be boomer and geo on the fan CBS sports network coming right.
