"And passive active versus passive investing what strategy works best in a recession yeah I will and I I don't I never want to preface this by saying to following you know coaches corn export plan is the most effective way to be able to have an income strategy and money that's gonna be coming in in retirement and so that not in the market you know segment or court essentially is a huge portion of this so that the part that we're talking about a passive in tactical this is actually more in the explorer kat you know side of the conversation of what we're actually managing and we're going to do that effectively I mean that for from a recession standpoint you know our overall goal if I can kind of speak numbers real quick if you look back in the day Dave when we experience the fall out of the Great Recession in two thousand and eight the market essentially fell about thirty eight percent at the end of the year right when all was said and done but we had this massive bull market that happened you know in two thousand and nine and so too often we we hear a lot of clients will come in and they'll say yeah I lost quite a bit but the next year I basically regained everything else that I lost and you know the big question again that we look at the sequence of returns and everything else is do we have the time now that we had back then to be able to recoup those losses and and who knows what's gonna happen we don't know over ten years like the last yeah I mean the you know we might be in a bear market for you know several years now I mean who knows I'm hoping that's not the case but if we were how do we kind of protect that so from a tactical approach it you know in in in comparison to the passive our tactical approach is if we can only experience maybe forty percent of that actual fall out so if the market actually falls twenty five or thirty percent like it did back in two thousand eight almost forty percent if we can only experience a certain portion of that as opposed to a hundred percent of it it puts us in a much better position so if you look at the numbers if I just use a million dollars as an example we do this when we you know have our clients here at the office and kind of look at their true scenario what if we used a million dollars in the market of two thousand and eight when the market fell thirty eight percent and then rebounded twenty six percent in two thousand nine a million dollars we would have experienced a two hundred and thirty some thousand dollar lost almost two hundred and forty thousand total and that's you know negating fees or anything else yeah I just had it in more of a passive account by looking at a more tactical approach a million dollars now with the title for two for only experiencing you know roughly forty percent of that downside but we're experiencing more like seventy percent on the upside meaning we know how to move money around and we're actually in it on a daily basis not day trading or anything like that but if you're actually on top of how those funds are actually working if we can experience maybe seventy percent of the upside only thirty or forty percent of the downside that gives us a negative a negative fallout two thousand and eight of sixteen percent and then it allows us to capture about eighteen percent totaling two thousand nine so we use that exact same example we're looking at a million dollars on the tactical side of it we've only lost about thirty seven grand even if we roll that out see forty thousand I mean you're looking at over two hundred thousand dollar difference going on there that makes a huge difference right and again keep in mind how this plays a role in the corn explore is that only represents maybe forty or fifty percent of our overall funds that were actually interesting you know to us actually use the other fifty sixty seventy percent is in this course strategy that coach talks about and that money is a hundred percent safe and so when we really meld those two worlds together it really allows us to put our clients in a much more effective scenario to wear regardless of what kind of going on in the market we want to make sure that we're taking a look at how much risk is going on so that we can protect our client overall slow and steady is gonna typically win that race the the the the main key point that I always try to leave with clients that I leave with them here as well is not really in the industry of saying Hey you're currently getting twelve percent or thirteen percent over at X. "To get back on the air and you know help help our listeners out there all right let's go to Mitch Mitch in Saint Pete good morning Hey good morning mark big shout out to a David green seems like a stand up guy and appreciate him keeping the show on the air yes I have a question about flowering fruit trees as a U. shaped a driveway in the middle I have to rubber trees and they're they're nice to have a lot of heat but their listing the concrete and I'm afraid they're gonna start get making their way towards that the house is talking about the rubber trees correct yes yeah so I'm here here's what I would do with the rubber trees not cut them back as far as I could I I'm planning on taking him out completely wonderful and replacing it with replacing them with either a orchid tree possibly or royal poinciana tree but I wanted to get your thoughts on maybe both of those or if you had something else that would work well I'm looking for something with a little bit of shade and and and that might grow quickly that take the place of these these beautiful large rubber trees and something that that will be too terribly difficult to manage okay I don't mind doing the work I don't mind hurting I don't mind fertilizing but first thing that you you've got that out of the way get rid of those for a bridge for you yeah yeah my gosh I had a friend who is same thing they had to get rid of them they got so big so big and you get those routes out of there you might have you might have to give all those stump grinders to to get out the you know after you've got to treat out well I have one in the backyard that I cut down and it didn't take very long for the whole thing to rot out the wood is very small it is it is very porous wood is not something like an oak tree or something but now if if I'm I'm just thinking if you're going to plant something else that you might want to do that that's up to you yeah but for flowering trees you know I love the royal poinciana I got one growing in my parking lot here over over ABC pest control so they do nicely now you're in Saint Pete yeah you can grow them there why not great tree to have a role poinciana you said Jack around I think right a zero point sooner orchid tree I have some neighbors to have an orchid tree and it's very beautiful but well I get the orchid tree you have to make sure that you're getting the Hong Kong orchid tree which is a sterile tree that does not produce those seed pods those long seed pods okay does your neighbor's tree have those long seed pods all the time see see that's not it that's why you call here that is the ceiling okay now I used to grow those darn things but I got rid of them because the darn seat you want to get the the the true Hong Kong marquetry which is sterile and does not put it produces a bigger blossom but no seed pods okay thing and I don't know much about those orchid trees it seems like my neighbors I don't know how how well they take care of it but it seems like occasionally parts of it will die back well they do that that's a problem with them yes so get get this did get the real Hong Kong worker training yeah you gotta ask for it so get get that or get like a I love that I love the royal Palm royal up poinciana beautiful I'm going back and forth that seems to be kind of a Saint Pete's signature curry I see a lot of them around but but there's a couple others now tab yes I love to have the blue is the taboo at bay T. A. B. E. B. U. I. A. T. A. B. E. B. U. I. A. N. last as happy IP terribly like a Kitty cat tabby a tabby billion F. A. I. P. E. and that's a that's a blue flowering tree as a yell throws like a trumpet flower it does get a lot of seed pods on it when the blooms but the seed pods kinda like they go away you know I mean it is not something that you're going to you're going to have the more out there and bang bang bang bang bang every time you have to see Bob so yeah you you're not gonna have that problem but that's a beautiful tree too and none of the trees I'm suggesting I'm going going to do what that darn rubber tree did next lift up a country okay so you don't you don't want that there's another tab your tree which is the tab will you cry Centrica which is the yellow but if you want if you want more shade go with the FAA if you want to color the yellow ones us fantastic it's beautiful the slow grower though in it and it's the tab will you cry so trekker are they both slow growing the taboo at bay you can get a little bit larger trade it's still slower growing trees not a huge growth fast grower but but it's a beautiful tree and I. P. E. E. I. P. E. now you're in Saint Pete get the better you know it is as large as your budget will allow let's put it that way okay you know you want to get up there is a form of tab yeah I yellow one call tablet Caribbean Kariba odd now that one it grossed it is like to if you are you're insane pizza if you when you're going over the causeway over the bridge for heading down to over the the causeway bridge I'm going I'm this guy away you'll see those yellow taboo is either side of the road but there are key they're real corky and they they break easily and you don't want that either okay so get the tab at bay or the tab with a credit check okay so you stay away from the previous so just just tell you different things are keep your citrus trees growing that's what you want and your mango trees those men yeah that's what you want yourself if you can you know they're going just crazy right now I have an avocado trees I do not but I don't really like avocados okay in and you know what I've had I've had a problem there's been a a roaming band of guys with fans that will just back up your heart garden start picking your fruit Hey Pete so I'm I'm starting to get more fruit trees in the backyard and more flowering trees yes very very very good idea I'll give you another option for fruit tree and you should consider it offers small tree maybe to put on the side of the taboo that yet get carambola tree star hurt yes the girl fantastic and you get tons of fruit okay tons of fruit happy people probably don't know what they are yes and and you can go to the show today at university of South Florida Tampa gardens and go see Jeff Dodson over Dotson Tropicales and and he'll be more than happy to get you a beautiful tree from his place wow okay great okay mark thank you so much for all the information I appreciate your show as always and thanks again to David Graham for sponsoring you are very welcome in call David let him know that's the key you got a call I already emailed them but I will call back to eight one three six four five one two three three eight one three six four one two three three thank my lap when he sees my bank account but I will definitely thank them for sponsoring you know you know I I was going to ask them that I'm here hi he's gonna have me in this program one of these weeks I think it up weeks and that's one of the things you because a lot of people think you know I've only got X. amount of dollars I mean I I can't afford to go no all you got to talk to the guy I'm telling you because you know anything that you have you save that money keep it and that's the key and he's the guy to do it for so well I'll bring my jacket change Indian tell me what to do there you go now do it all right I thank my ex **** bye bye bye I was going to marry in new port Richey Hey merry good morning good morning and thank you and rand capital we really do appreciate it fantastic your thank you I have a couple questions one is for next week but I want to ask you now he should answer on the first one is about if you when you have a raised bed how do you keep winning exposed out of the race that okay so number one when you when you when you build your raised bed I build a bunch of what you want to make sure that you do is that your art had did you replace all the dirt or did you fill it up with the dirt that was in the area replace the dark I didn't need a project that was already there okay because what I do is I I will I will put my first set to beams down on the existing ground and then I get we block all kinds okay now put the weed block material down and not nice not neat you know we just they just awesome we blocked out and then I start adding in my good dirt my good stuff all right so I'll start putting the Pete the perlite I put R. two thirds Pete one third perlite and I mix up oil girls I fill up my my my raised beds okay now every second year or year and a half every second year or year and a half you'll notice a lot of that so I will go down I will replace the top at least six to eight inches of that dirt I will just take it out throw back in a wheelbarrow and I'll use it around my other plants that are that are planted in the ground I'll just dump it around them and just can't even it out and then I will get new dirt and put that back in the top okay so I will Neva told Newman told can always come back and if you have any image if you have name it tells you pull all those routes you see all those little Nigel's all over the roots then then you may be able to take out a little bit more to or what you'll do is you'll take a piece of in the summer time like right now at between seasons that we grow you'll take some some black plastic and you'll put that down over the top of your garden okay once once you pull everything out and you leave that on there for about six weeks and that will cook that dirt okay it'll cook it down about ten to fifteen inches and you'll kill every name a toad every weed and disease and everything else underneath that okay if you could do that you're right as the four you start a new one absolutely yes of course that's what you do have time to do it there are no nematicides currently on the market well hold on there are no there are no doubt continue my sons there are no written Amanda sides currently on the market for homeowner use that are active that you can put down a lot of them you have to keep those you have to keep the soil moisture down to our it's almost here down at least eight to ten inches you gotta keep what continuously if it dries out the stuff goes away the nematicides are not as effective and they're very very expensive but how much does it cost for a black pieces of material that you put down over this thing just let the sun bake it okay thank you if I put in any of it is all you're doing and you cook in the soil and then you're gonna put new dirt up on top of it you are golden again for another two years one all right easy way to do it save you some money and you're gonna grow great looking plants how's that and have you do you have one more question sure do you go right ahead okay if your citrus mangoes and guava not all that yes all the ground throwing containers okay there is mushrooms growing it and everything because of the rain water anything it's just normal range yep what do I do to prevent mold or fungus getting online the christening of the water okay so the mushrooms that you may see around in your containers okay that are coming up because of you you got some extra rain number one you want to make sure you have holes in the bottom of your pot C. pot can be bank that can drain it and you eliminate the dish that might be underneath the pot if eliminate that dish what you'll do is you will it let the plant drain even even more okay.
