"Likely to wind up doing now about there. And maybe I'm wrong. And I hope I'm wrong, is we go through this ten year slug where every year we're checking a rod's percentages climbing slowly and slowly and slowly. And just going to really come down to a matter of how many older voters fall off and how many newer voters come on. But aside from that, I think this is the same old story for the next ten years. Well, you know what, as you were talking, realizing, you know, what else might be working for Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez? Barry Bonds about your Clemens, okay? 'cause I think they're getting in. I think one of these special committees is going to he's going to acknowledge the reality about PD users in the Hall of Fame. We talked on get up this morning about how look I think the Hall of Fame is a great museum, but not having bonds and Clemens in the Hall of Fame. Completely under credit undercuts the credibility of the plaque room. And I think that the Hall of Famers over time and you saw the late bob Gibson acknowledge in his comments, well, you know what? I can't say that I wouldn't use steroids if I had the opportunity. I think Johnny Bench has been more circumspect, I think that eventually bonds and Clemens get in, gets get in. And at that point, if you're a voter, if you don't see the writing on the wall and just acknowledge, like, boy, we gotta just put in the best players. I would be shocked. I do wonder if bonds and Clemens eventually getting into a special committee might help Alex. It would definitely help out. If bonds and Clemens get in via committee, it essentially allows the baseball writers to throw out all the rules to which they've been using for the last ten or 15 years. The only bit of pushback that I'll give you on the bonds and bonds of companies not getting in through the writers and what that might mean. I'm not convinced that this isn't sort of in its own kind of weird way buster, a charming thing about the baseball Hall of Fame. For my money, one of the most interesting things about it is that Pete Rose is not in it. And that's who mister Jackson is not in it. Now, baseball is the only sport that has a whole thing that we care about at all. And I'm not certain that bonds and Clemens Getty in. Although deserving would drive any more interest, would add any more credibility. And my judgment, it's one of these sort of unique baseball Y things that maybe it's just because I live in the sports talk radio world. But I've always thought that the Pete Rose debate, but she was show debates and now someday the bonds and Clemens debate actually add more relevance to the museum and the Hall of Fame than otherwise. I think the fact that bonds and Clemens are not in is just silly. And, you know, I can't at a fairness to players. I can't name names among guys, but I could.

"I'd say under one hundred people as what's happening you. You say something about entrepreneurs and hiring and i'm going to read you again quote you make because i just think it. Just so good. He said most entrepreneurs imbued with a super strong work ethic and boundless optimism they truly believe they can transform employees even those with below average skills and drive into valuable players through their excellent example and the sheer force of their iron will. And here's your here's the statement that you make this. Is patently not true. I i know somewhere in that. That part of the chapter. I talk about pete. Rose and pete rose if you're cincinnati reds fan. He had actually Street down the block. From me as pete rose way so that was I think one of the only street named after a living person in cincinnati if not the only one and he thought you know he ran the first when he got to walk and he didn't understand why everybody didn't hustle. If you played for him you know you rando. I when you got to walk and you you know you dove into the base you took you went for the extra-base if you didn't end the game with your Your uniform full of grass and mud. Then you didn't play hard enough so he just couldn't. He couldn't figure out why people weren't like him and it was like well in a you had forty two hundred hits so there's nobody like you so it just wasn't going to work and that's why he wasn't a good manager he just he couldn't take Well number one. I don't know if you've ever taken average person in tournament to a great one you can turn them into somebody that works but he couldn't do that because he just he couldn't see past. They weren't putting out the effort at and i'm not not every entrepreneurs quite as as A boundless in their energy as pete rose. But wow a lot of them are. I'd say at least sixty percent would fall into. The pete rose category right you talk. Well pete rose unique player. Yeah right and this is the problem. Some times with unique players people who possess certain skills and our enviable because of what they do and how they play the game or a in business for that matter. That doesn't mean that they can translate that into.

"Throwing matches right now. They've figured it out to they can figure out all of a sudden. There's bets are normal along the way. And all of a sudden there'd be like whack one hundred thousand pounds bet on a guy and they figured it out that it was actually the guy in the match and he was huge favourite huge favorite to win any bet on the other guy. You know so now. It's like that's the issue stevie. That's that's that's a big a big thing and it's a huge issue. I mean again off the top. We that fox graphic is going up there and say it. I don't know what some let me just double check on what it's called exactly but it appears to be a fox based sports betting deal and I mean to me. That's probably 'cause 'cause major league baseball that's probably what's happening. All the owners are going. We want a piece of the action. So it's our it's our league and had all these guys in vegas and all these illegal bookmakers. They're making all the money. We want a piece of that. But the optics of major league baseball bedding is no good and so obviously. They're getting a pile of money from the foxes of the world. Extra money beyond their broadcast rights and they're probably seeing some of action. They're charging fox to be able to do this kind of thing so sure it's let me just double check on what it's called here. It's it's all cash for sure. Stevie right this just in a conversation here about betting on sports is all about cash. It's the fox bet. Sportsbook the odds to hit home run. It was and then jack bucks talking about it. it's not some. You know obsolete little graphic in the core right now. they're even talking about it on top of that and they're really really encouraging people to get in on that so it's just it's a funny thing We'll see how the me. I were a long way from this being something that becomes damaging or anything. But i think it is a slippery slope to be honest the bow but but pete rose. Now you've got to look at that. You gotta revisit that matt. Do i think. I mean it's different. It's not quite as serious as pete rose did. But i don't know you're basically telling the world with this kind of thing that yeah gambling's not so bad gambling that bad all so the fun and it can't be right can be fun but for surely the houston astros and the cheating talk. I wanna get into that We'll get to that after these words. Are you looking for a better value.

"He was going to clean things up in the first step was Oh, Pete Rose thinks he's going to sue me. Go ahead. Try it, and that was his attitude. He was going to say the same thing and had the same things to owners and we have an added commissioner in sports like that. There's been some good ones like Adam Silver and a few others who have done okay. But commissioners are toadies who are management employees say Vincent would a band. It's like 16 owners that excuse me. Ramadi would have done it. Vincent Tribe barter money would have banned 16 owners if he'd had 20 years in the commissionership. So there's that second element to it as well besides piece, so then I guess that might answer my next question. Keith Olbermann, which is if Jamadi had not passed away a week later. You know how stances soften over time, right? So Do you think the fact that Jamadi past and then there are people who are close to him? Who do believe that the The Rose scenario and situation led to his, um, heart giving way that that if he had lived that maybe Rose might not be banned for life today. No, I don't. I think that regardless of what the consequences were, I mean, obviously part. Jamadi died because he was a was a chain smoker and his and the other things that brought stress or pressure to him. Could have been interchangeable with things that did or did not happen elsewhere in his life. I mean, you can you can. I'm recreating. I sent a sense of this must have contributed to his friend who knows, But I will say this. I don't think that That there would have been much of a different path repeat under a long term Giamatti commissionership because again there had been in that year. Many threats from the rose side like Don't you dare try to. I mean, he's the most popular man in baseball, which might have been true. He's the most famous player in baseball. He broke that bastard Ty Cobb's record. I think Jamadi was was believed that the entire power structure and the rules that he most believed in as in no gambling. Certainly no gambling on your own team passive aggressively or otherwise. I think he believed Rose was not only violating them, but challenging them and challenging, essentially the rule of baseball law. And nobody was righteous, like Bart Giamatti have put a lot of people off. But it endeared him to other people because he he was that hard on himself and people that he liked as well as people he didn't like. But it was a personal struggle between these two men and part, Jamadi died thinking he had Banished. Pete Rose for life, and I think it would've stayed that way. And what about roses demeanor towards all of this? I have mentioned earlier and I wonder what you think about it, Keith, um, that Had rose taken the approach towards gambling and made himself the face of the scourge of gambling similar to what Mantle did about alcohol. And how it can tear away at your career and your family and it's not for everyone and don't do it had Rose taken that approach. Do you think he would still be banned today on that front? I I'm really conflicted about the answer to that, because you could just as easily asked the theoretical if Pete had laid low for a long time, and then came out as the face of Baseball friendly gambling, which the leagues have now endorsed. Maybe he would have been reinstalled that way. You know of the attitude towards this entire topic has done a 1 80 in the last 20 years. Maybe longer. Really. It started with the acceptance of, uh, fantasy. Baseball is kind of a low grade. Uh, Gambling form which I often indulged in this. You may remember. Yes, but, um, you know, it's such a strange Uh, what's moral and what's immoral. It changes every few years in many different areas. I don't think I think Pete went through periods of time in which he was really remorseful and was was showing an understanding of what happened and was trying to atone and I thought he should have been left off the hook. And then all by the way, this stuff with underage girls came out. That was the end of it. But they did You know the commissioner's office had to sign off on Pete Rose going back to Fox for baseball postseason coverage. So he did, in fact, get back into the game, and there was a path for him to go further back into the game, and maybe even have That ineligibility lifted in some formal way. It had been to my mind it had been lifted informally. Pete Rose was not. I mean, you can't be banned from baseball and, you know, be on the frickin postgame show to the World Series. That's not that's you know, it's like the Joe Jackson Band. We're going to celebrate Shoeless Joe Jackson every year now in Dyersville, Iowa, But he's still officially banned and nobody should do what he did brought to you by Draftkings. It's kind of a mixed message Now. Keith Olbermann here on the Rich Eisen show. What about the sense of the fact that Cooperstown is a museum? As much as it is a shrine to the greats and placing on a plaque the whole story as your best you can fit on a plaque and put Pete in, uh, for what he did. On the field. What about the sense of that? Well, you're now asking to to do something subtle in one of the least subtle places in in the world, which is the baseball Hall of Fame. I mean, if you wanted to do that, their means to do it tomorrow. Stratify the Hall of Fame in two echelons. You know the all time immortals or what everyone had called them, which would be rude and Aaron and Josh Gibson, 20 people or whatever. And then there'd be everybody else who reach certain statistical plateaus and other people who get voted in and and infamous people who, you know, ruin their own lives and careers. And you could have a essentially the Hall of Fame members who were, uh bad guys if you want to have Barry Bonds and and Pete rose over in one section with Shoeless Joe Jackson and Eddie Cicotte and George Hall and Jim Devlin from 18 77. Louisville team that through the dependent that year. You could do that, too. But this is you know, this requires a lot I will point out as is often I think mentioned about Pete. The best part of baseball Hall of Fame is the behind the scenes tour that you can usually get if you know somebody and in a room downstairs next to the 37 degree photo. Uh, vault is the uniform vault and I forget how many Pete Rose uniforms are in the Hall of Fame right now, but I believe it was a dozen and that by the way, The uniforms is how we knew something was wrong because when you could not collect baseball uniforms because teams did not sell them or distribute them in the late seventies and early eighties, you can always find a game used Pete Rose uniform. And the story was he needed so much money for something. Gambling was the rumor that he used to buy the uniforms after he wore them in a game or two and would sell 20 or 30 uniforms a year and a joke was Electric goes to the dealer and says, I want to Pete Rose game used uniform and the guy goes Cincinnati, Montreal or Philadelphia. And the fan goes, Uh, Cincinnati, he goes. Homer way like home, Uh, sixties vest, style or big red machine. Pull over. Uh, pull over, please. Okay..

"Math parole aria. Good matter you. I'm wonderful. I'm wondering if you can roll back in your memory and tell us if you have any memory of it. As to thirty two years ago today when giovanni was at that press conference announcing pete rose to be suspended for life for betting. Do you have any recollection. A memory of of of learning of that story or seeing that story the thing. I remember sports illustrated article that kind of broke it out. And then you get mighty came out around the same time i believe. I don't. I can't remember if it's the sports illustrated article is the four. After but i just remember him. Pete rose on the cover of it So that's kind of my memories of that lot saints. Yeah i mean if someone said thirty two years ago we would be sitting here where we are. I don't think i would believe them. And i i mean it is. We're just talking about in the last segment. Like pete rose being the hit king. Guess kind of changed it. But do you think we'll have at some point ever again. Another story like that involving someone of that stature involved in sports betting scandal. Unfortunately i do I think that whenever you have a giant market like the sports betting market where billions and billions of dollars are proving through it There's just so much money that it's going to attract various characters and I think it's inevitable and i would say. It was inevitable for legalization to i don't think because things are now equal That that is increased the incentive to fix a game or a bet on a sports that is sports. You're involved in But i there's just so much money right and when there's that much money involved people go after it and they go to unscrupulous things. I mean. Look at the stock market. We have insider trading scandals all the time yup and per per to your article on. Espn chalk the head fake game. How sharp betters. Fool the betting market one congrats on. The piece is incredible in to how long you working on this well. We had that as the the lead. Kinda generated what was that. Wnba all star game than for people that may not remember what happened Circus sports odds maker matt metcalf made a number for the over under on the wnba. All star game now opened it to forty eight He has been opening admitted that he just kinda messed up. Because the game this year involved the wnba all stars versus the us. Women's olympic and the olympic team is getting shooting up to to the olympic. So it was going to be more competitive game a lot more defense played and the sharp better were paying. Attention went back. Put up that number You know eventually. They got a lot of undermining the number dropped up fifty points or so forth but the thing that was funny about that what really sparked my interest was the i bet was on the over though this was a betting syndicate. That knew that this line was way off way too high but instead of betting under just go ahead and get it..

Brzeczek meows peaked in july. Of twenty. Seventeen right here. On the rich eisen show back on our simulcast with the rich eisen show on nbc sports on peacock Also on sirius. Patrick show dp obviously Attached at the television hip with this man certainly was when i was I at sportscenter and I am thrilled to be able to call him a friend and now a guest of the rich eisen show here on the second anniversary of pete rose being banned for life and baseball is great. Keith olbermann how are you kale. Well i just had to knock down over rich. I mean he was getting my wife at the roll him over and my dad was in the end the audience. Sorry i know dp is the ray fosse of this Of this analogy writer. Well he would not say that how you doing kale band enough time. So i work courtesy before it was like. Why am i at sympathetic. To pete rose. Oh so tell everyone where you were thirty two years ago today. Consulting bart giamatti announcement none the suspension. Banishment of pete rose by happenstance. I was working in los angeles. I was the sports director at channel two and summer. Nothing going on vacation. I was home leaving. friday morning. Was a friday eh. go back to. La and thursday night. The story began to break. This press. conference is gonna take place through the plans. Rivers went with the local crew from channel to here in new york and was at that press conference. And you know i mean. It's a historical moment. we see it as like flash. There's two points of importance one. That story had been building up for a year. I have a vision of myself standing outside spring training with the angels in nineteen eighty nine holding up sports illustrated with the beginning of the end of pete rose that was march so every day that summer until this time of the year it was. Pete rose this. Pete rose that you know four years after he broke the hit record and this was i this would be the the the equivalent of i don't know banning otani in four years or any other huge baseball figure And the second part of it was bar tramonte. And i set it on the air that day and i still haven't gotten over. This was the most alive. I ever saw anybody anywhere the day that he banned. Pete rose and a week later he dropped dead of a massive coroner. It's still just the the the most forceful righteous indignation. he was vengeance As as justice. And and just the most a live person. I've ever seen do anything. And he was gone a week later. Extraordinarily week so What was it like in that room. Keith thirty two years ago today there was there was there was bart giamatti and the rest of us were just kind of just kind of watching this Orchestra conducted by man by himself. I mean he was. He had the whole thing prepared and it was clear from his phrasing. Based on what we're hearing out of. Cincinnati that he had somehow convinced pete that this was a reviewable suspension than a temporary thing. And maybe a year or something. And then in fact he had slipped the noose around pete's neck And and and what we have seen sense which was a lifetime ban without really ever calling it that but it was so dramatic and rarely do stories in any line of wife in my forty plus years of covering this stuff stories. that have such a long build up. I mean there were rumors of this eighty eight. I i heard something about pete. Rose and gambling in nineteen eighty out of the memorabilia. Business and it took all that time to build up and yet this was like i can't compare the this to anything else of that kind of long build up. This was lightning. This is a series of lightning strikes. Only the man standing at the podium was throwing the light. That was what it was like. Keith olbermann here. On the rich eisen show thirty. Second anniversary of the Bart giamatti press conference announcing pete rose being banned for life. Ko was at that press conference so the sense was at the time that that pete would have a chance to come back or no. No i think the sense was that Pete thought he was going to get a chance to come back in a lot of the ill-will between pete and baseball. I think really originated with the idea that that they have a. I don't know if they didn't read the documents close enough where she didn't understand them or what happened. But giamatti was going for a permanent ineligible ban. I mean his last words were the subject of pete. Rose is closed And i think the the the from later in the same day when they put those questions to pete he was like no no. It's going to be reviewed in a couple of weeks and that's the whole me. He believed he was signing some sort of admission in exchange for leniency. And i guess the leniency was. He was suspended for one lifetime rather than for twenty five but giamatti was was clearly furious at that news conference and and suppressing rage and it contributed to the to the nature of the The forcefulness and many people thought contributed to bart's death too because the whole the entirety of his commissionership was essentially consumed by dealing with the rose scandal as it built and built and built and that was You know if you tie this into the idea. That's also sort of lost. A history. bart giamatti was considered to be the man most likely to save baseball permits He was a president of yale scholar and baseball addict. And a red sox. Fan when that meant you can endure losing poetry about baseball and who was probably the most overqualified baseball executive of all time and he was coming in he was going to clean things up and the first step was you know. Pete rose thinks he's going to sue me. Go ahead try it. And that was his attitude and he was going to say the same thing and had the same things to owners. And we haven't had a commissioner in sports like that there have been some good ones like adam silver and a few others who've done okay but commissioners are toadies who are management employees. Fay vincent would banned like sixteen owners meet at excuse. Me dramatic would have done it. Vincent tried bart giamatti would ban sixteen owners if he'd had twenty years in the commissionership. So there's that second element to it as well besides pete so then. I guess that might answer my next question keith. Olbermann which is if giamatti had not passed away a week later. Mc and checking out the other shows within the podcast network but before we get into the american league. Cy young conversation recording this year late wednesday night. Joey votto has recently passed or just past. Pete rose for third all time on the cincinnati reds are b. i list. He's got four. Rbi's here on wednesday against the atlanta braves which now putsches impasse. Pete rose pete. Rose said one thousand thirty six for the cincinnati reds and joey votto now has one thousand thirty eight based on live. I'm recording here wednesday night. This is third all time now. He is just our fourth all time. Let's see here. He behind bid mcphee. Who's got one thousand and seventy two. So he could be passed later this year. If not early next year tony perez one thousand one hundred ninety two and then i all time is johnny bench with one thousand three hundred seventy six. Now joey votto become all time on this list. Well he's under contract for three more years with cincinnati twenty five million dollars in twenty twenty to twenty five million dollars in twenty three and then twenty million dollars in two thousand twenty four so three more years if he has great years once again. Say three hundred total are b. is he's currently at one thousand and thirty eight so that would put him one thousand three hundred thirty eight still just behind johnny bench. So it's going to be tough for him to pass. Johnny bench certainly doable if he has a couple of more fantastic years but it definitely looks like he's at least going to be second place certainly hitting that twelve hundred mark but johnny bench. One thousand three hundred. Seventy six is a stretch goal for joey. But joey votto having himself a heck of a night here once again for the is two home runs against the atlanta braves as they were tied at five last time. I checked here again late wednesday night. Let's pull it up one more time. Seal to where we're at here. Bottom of the ninth to on for the for the braves so they could win it here. In the bottom of the ninth but four. Rbi's for joey. Votto puts him ahead of. Pete rose on the all time list for the cincinnati reds. So now talking about the american league cy young race. What's going on here with the cy young award. Well we've had some recent movement when it comes to the arts and this has to do with the carlos roa don injury as recently as this week rodion was arguably your favorite but if he's going to miss extended time here now the books whether it's online or vegas have made some adjustments and ultimately changed up the hot so we're going to run through the top ten here starting out with plus eight thousand. You got two guys at plus eight thousand. The first gentleman onion review for the toronto blue jays. He is eleven and five this year with a three six two era in twenty two games. He's got one hundred and twenty. Six innings pitched one hundred and three strikeouts and a one point one a whip. So he's obviously been very good not nearly as good as he was last year. I mean honestly the last three years. He's been a fantastic twenty eight team. Era of one nine seven twenty three to twenty twenty two six nine so even though he's been good once again at a three six two er a he's a little bit below his prior. Averages is prior er as so. I think that puts him certainly on the outside looking in and definitely a long shot when it comes to win this award next on the list of eight thousand lucas g alito. He's certainly started to figure things out. He started out. Slow this year But a sense really bounce back in one and put himself back into the tops consideration. He is nine and eight with a three eight one. Era in twenty three starts so honestly the record of nine and eight. Three eight one. I think removes him from this conversation. He does have one hundred fifty three strikeouts in one hundred. Thirty seven innings. So it's not like he's been poor through any conversation but with came in huntington review both that Plus eight thousand i. I would certainly put a hinge in review ahead of him when it comes to the odds an potentially be a winning the award and having a late push here now a couple gentlemen come in at plus six thousand. So you're next year when it comes to this award in the american league first off. You have jose burritos now of the toronto blue jays and again he was traded from one american league team to another american league team so he certainly still remains eligible for this award. And it's tough for burritos right because he was on a very bad team in the minnesota twins. And i think this is part of the reason why he's this low now. Through to starts in toronto he is one point seven five era. He's allowed one run. In twelve innings with minnesota he was seven and five with an array of three four eight and for a team in minnesota. That's double digit games under five hundred for him to be over. Five hundred certainly speaks to the year that he was having. Now i think the trade in potentially this move here right if he goes to toronto and somehow goes seven and no eight. No has an ira right around one. One one five one five it could elevate him up higher amongst this list especially if he's one of the reasons why toronto's able to make a playoff push. This could be a big feather in his cap right. It takes me back to two thousand and eight when abacha was traded from the indians. To the brewers. I threw on three days. Rest down the stretch had a fantastic record low. Era ended up winning the national league. Cy young award because he carried that brewers team essentially to a playoff appearance. I think something similar could happen. This year burritos goes on one of these runs and subsequently carries the blue jays to the postseason so outside the value shot. Here you know on joseba rio that if they get hot he could certainly spike up here. A pyre this list lance mccullers junior for houston at plus six thousand. He is nine and three with the three to era in nineteen starts. He's got one hundred nine innings one hundred and twenty eight strikeouts. It's been a one probably a career year for lance mccullers. Of course he missed all of twenty nineteen due to injury shortened season last year went three three with a three nine three. Era in having a really good year nine. Three three two two but houston's very good they got a deep pitching staff. I just don't see him being able to carry that the way with his name and his performance to ultimately get that recognition to really drive home a potential. Cy young move here. That's why i think burrito says better value at plus six thousand just due to circumstances and ultimately having that kind of it factor. Come down the stretch next week. Two guys i plus four thousand starting out with nathan ugalde nathan evolved for the red sox nine and seven three nine two era. I mean again. I don't see it with nathan evolving. I know boston's had a nice year. He's had himself a nice here. But in era right around four. I just don't think he's got enough of the goods to ultimately launch himself into that conversation. When it comes to cy young potentially right so the other gentlemen at plus four thousand is chris. Bassett and chris bassett leads. The american league in innings pitched with one hundred forty four. He is also eleven in three with a three one nine. Era in twenty three games. One hundred and forty seven strikeouts one point zero four. Whip do think he could potentially be in conversation coming down the stretch oakland if they continue to make a push here and win the american league west. Eventually i think bassett is certainly going to be in that conversation..

His ex-wife is going to be his ex wife. he's getting divorced. he's got a little kid and she's pregnant. She is really angry and if what she says to. I don't blame her. he's cheating on her. She's cheating on her with this gorgeous model. I kind of i could see both sides but i i understand both sides not like anna kane is in a beautiful woman like she's try. She apparently east quite swordsman. He likes the ladies and he picked knows how to pick them although he apparently likes the crazy ones. You know i always ended about you. I always stayed away from the crazy ones. When looking there i always get scared then and went the other way. Some people like the crazy ones not me anyway. I you know so. I'm reading about vander kane and initially it says pregnant wife angry she's mad. She says he's cheating. It sounds like a whatever interesting Tabloid page six story. Tmz kind of story. Then it gets to the good part then she brings out the big guns and this is a. This is something that could have happened. Twenty years ago. It's an angry pregnant. i'm gonna soup. She's not drunk because she's pregnant. I was just say an angry drunk. Ex-lover sits down at her laptop or phone gets on instagram. I believe ask loose. And if you haven't seen it the pregnant. Like and i'm interested to see what that to counter to that is but as of right now it feels pretty even you know strength on strength right now. Yeah someone can think fast versus someone who can no move the earth okay. Yes but i've used this example before he helps superman move the earth sort of like the same way if you combine pete rose senior and pete rose juniors hits together. It's the most of any to father sons of all time but you also have to remember. Pete rose senior had over four thousand hits and pete rose junior. Had like two hundred. That's the way that martian manhunter was helping superman move the earth as watching old school commercials on youtube and who is a there is something about like some chicken breading commercial. Right where the mom's making the chicken she puts a chicken in a bag and mix it with bread crumbs and says. Hey let's shake it shake there was and there's this little kid beside the mom. The mom clearly did all the work. And what you're saying. That superman was mom and that little kid was marsha manager who looks at the cameron said and i helped and stand hunter. Martian manhunter is. Yeah there were three characters involved. Superman wonder woman and martian manhunter right. Yup day actually. That's a different one where he also helped with the shake and bake a movie. Helping superman move anything. Let me just put it out there. Is Tom Brady now the greatest team sport athlete ever?

"Who is the greatest athlete of all time to debate. That i saw again and again on social media today after tom brady won another super bowl. Mvp super bowl ring. He does again at the age of forty three and this might be as most impressive super bowl victory yet. And i don't even know how you have. That discussion in the big picture to be honest is like where. What are you basing it on is the number of championships is it. The number of mvp's is it. How levick you are It could be you know you can dismiss some guys because they're part of a team sport versus individual where it's one hundred percent of that person that drives a success like that's probably a i mean. It's an apples and oranges thing as well different sports. I don't even know how ya how you could ever come up with that. certainly james. Tom brady is very much in that discussion. Now here's the. Here's the issue. Stevie with tom brady being you know the certainly certainly the greatest quarterback of all time okay. Let's go with that all right. Let's go hands down greatest guy to play that position seven championships multiple. Mvp's multiple wins games. All that stuff. So i think he's the greatest quarterback but but if you if you were on that same team with tom say prior to the tampa and you're on the six superbowls and you know another player on that team another quarterback of course but so so. Where does that leave you. You know if you're if you're a middle linebacker going or gronkowski on. Hey i want six. There is that what is that. What the qualifiers. To be the greatest of all times. I was there. I wouldn't six so the the football kind of funny for me to pick to pick a player that has a completely different position in hockey. For example everyone you know you got a bunch of forwards bunch of skaters know and they award them bill norris trophy for defense and all that stuff and so hockey. I think you can figure out who. Who's greatest of all time because you're comparing apples to apples there. So that that's a bit of an issue for me to single dot saying you're the greatest of all time again again because there'd be other guys who played on that team who won super bowl championships you know it's just an interesting position to because everything goes to the quarterback it's such a unique position your guiding the ship. You're the leader of the team on and off the field. It's such a unique position that in team sports is not really another comparison in my opinion the other sport that i could compare that to where where i think. You're singling out a position player. So i don't think you can call them the greatest football player of all time. It's quarterback baseball right. You can get an you. Get an ace pitcher. Okay on a on team of course and if you said okay well he's he's the greatest baseball player of all time. And you're going to wait. Wait a minute wait a minute. I'm i'm sammy sosa over here. Okay right what do you mean. I'm where i'm pete rose there. I'm i guess pizza name wouldn't be in there anymore. You know what i mean. So bad is gonna wait. Wait a minute here. Maybe it's different other times of the year but he didn't really have many people going in and but like you talk about in the book i guess you have some kind of guarantee and and he makes good money doing that so god bless them right. Yeah you know if you're if you're going to be someplace five hours a day fifteen days a month you're not gonna get big long line but he has just a steady. Just a steady stream of people So it's i don't know exactly what it was like when you were there. And certainly times. He goes without people coming by. But i've been there the same out there and he and people come they're not necessarily lined up if Justin bieber with just pulling into town but they are. You know they're kind of they're. They're pretty steady that there are people there and You he of guaranteed. He'll move a little bit of merchandise every day. And and that's that seems to be enough for the people who are investing and you're talking about in the book and i just stood there watching a little bit You know from outside the store and just to see how we interact and you pointed out he he will spend time with people. he's not doing it. Just not looking at when he signs the whatever he signs He does talk baseball with him so he seems to enjoy. So because you can only does seem to be doing. I didn't have to enjoy you. Know mixing with the people you've got to have that right sort of attitude and and urged to be with people and he certainly is and in many ways you know that's what that's what people are paying for because the autograph itself is has some value. I guess but not that much as many of them out there and it's not such a big big deal from a financial standpoint but he'll personalize if you and you also spend a little time. He'll basically answer any question about most things that you might ask him So so that's again. That's better bread and butter the way he interacts with people thought it was kind of people. Make nothing it's funny. I thought it was somewhat amusing. Some of the items he will sign. He has baseball's but say. I'm sorry i bet on baseball. He'll sign that and sell it to. And the topic was going to throw out there. When I mentioned earlier, Um Sloane, he said something this morning about people will use from now claim they were at the capital on Wednesday, claiming you were at a well known event even though you were not Another example would be the freezer bowl. He threw out and I don't know people who tell me they were the freezer. But we're not. We're actually there. I wasn't Was not the capital on Wednesday. But it's just a well known doesn't have to be it. No, not necessarily of an historical nature. But point would be the who concert back in the day. Yes, I was at that show. No, I didn't get pushed around. Didn't see any of that. It was pretty much over by the time I got there, but yes, I was that that show that I save my ticket. No, but I was there. Freezer bowl. As I recall that friend had tickets. We were talking about going until they said the restrooms were frozen. And we decided if you couldn't use the restroom It was going to be that well, number one. It was miserably cold. It was wind chills like 59 below zero, and I'm not making that number up. Temp wise. It was probably 18 below zero. I don't remember. But we didn't. We weren't watched it at their house as opposed to going down. But that was an almost I didn't go to that one Did go toe Pete Rose 41 92. We were at that game. And that was It was a lot of stadium city because we read the Bangles game on Sunday. It came on the scoreboard that Pete Rose and tied the record at Wrigley. So and they were coming home after that road trips on the way out. Everybody was stopping the buying tickets for Monday. Not knowing that he or the club announced he was not going to play on Monday. So you went on Monday anyway, he didn't play. Then you bought your tickets for Tuesday. He went over four on Tuesday. So you bought your tickets for Wednesday. And more. Some serious nose bleed seats on those days, But at least you could say Yes, I was there for 41 92 looking for well known events that you were there for? Maybe you did go to Woodstock. Most people I've talked to in my life who went to Woodstock. In hindsight today, they say it was pretty miserable. Back then you're young. You're stupid. You have a good time. Your muddy remember the positive things, I guess more than the negatives, But most people as they got older, you're talking to me when they were in their forties or fifties or whatever. By then they'll say Woodstock was that was pretty miserable weekend. So that's the question. Is there an event out there that is well known You were there. You don't care whether people believe you or not. Had to have been some others. Someplace. I've been in my life. Of a momentous nature. I think politically? Not really. So that's all I have. 41 92 a who concert? Those are my two. So we have 151379 7000 would be that number 800 the big one. Grab a line and we probably ought to get But we have to get news in the picture first. And then we lay out the weekend and beer with my friend..

"Hairston junior of course former major league player world champion with the Yankees And of course the dodgers address analysts for Spectral Sports Net L. A. Jerry. Welcome to the PODCAST. How you doing very well very well? Yes on in Wednesday afternoon four o'clock eastern time. The big press conference at Dodger Stadium. Yes mookie Betts and David price coming to Los Angeles. I know you got to like train and your thoughts. I'm extremely excited. You know the dodgers the last few years. I've put themselves in position to possibly win a world series. It hasn't happened but I really believe adding guy like Mookie Betts in my opinion five baseball ballplayer all in all the major leagues. Excellent top of the order hitter. You know I think this is. He's kind of like the generations. Ricky Henderson excellent speed is they're gonNA NOT GONNA steal a hundred thirty basis because nobody does that anymore really. Nobody did that with ricky played But he gives you speed at the top power A great outfielder in right field. And you put him in the lineup with next month cody bellinger Justin Turner And so on and so forth this is arguably the best lineup and all of baseball and then add to This dodge rotation healthy David Price. Who Brings in championship type pedigree and I really believe? He's GonNa be pitching with a chip on his shoulder. I'm having something to prove the season so I'm excited for the dodgers and the city of La. Jerry dodgers needed a good right handed bat. That lineup is loaded with lefties. This bets bets is going to help that isn't he. Absolutely you know anytime you get a chance to Have the best players in all of baseball. And you're on your lineup. She'd He'd be in your lineup. It's GONNA help but you're always looking for balance and you know like you mentioned. The dodgers were heavy left handed The last two years with Jock Petersen Jason Cory seager cody bellinger Max money. There's nothing wrong with having left handed power but you WANNA kinda offset that a little bit especially with the emergence of Gavin Luxa the new Start second base going to the dodgers have. He's a left handed batter. So you WanNa make sure you balanced when you're facing writings and left these Throughout the season the playoffs so why not not get arguably the best right handed hitting outfielder outside of my trout in base going. That's looking back and Jerry. You don't look at this as as has some sort of rental you don't make a trade for guy player like Mookie Betts and not be willing to sign this guy who can be a free agent. After next year you fully the expect. The dodgers to ante up and paid has got to be a dodger for a long time. Don't you absolutely I liken this to like an Anthony Davis you you know you. Trade for Anthony Davis get him in the fold let them see. La Let him be Laker and see how great it is to be living in La very similar with mookie Betts. You get him over here here. Let them play in this ballpark. Be a dodger Every day Get accustomed to you know the lifestyle. LA which. Really second to none. Being in the bright lights of Hollywood. I I think he's going to love it here and WanNa sign back and certainly. The dodgers have the resources to sign a guy like me or about so. Hopefully he's comfortable here which I think he will be. And we'll love to play here because everybody played here including myself has a loved. But I'm not putting on that dodger. Blue Guess on inside the park a podcast is of course Jerry Hairston junior former major league player and analyst for the dodgers in their TV broadcasts The other part is MOOKIE BETTS AND PRICE COM from Boston and they're under a cloud of suspicion. They're under investigation for what went down with their ex manager. Now Alex Cora and the dodgers chargers got a bronco event they lost in the world series in two thousand eighteen to the red sox. Where do you make of that? Where Mookie Betts and David Price could possibly be implemented uh implicated and talk about that they took part in what could wind up being yet? Another cheating scandal baseball. Well you know what I've heard it. You know before the the commissioner ruled on the Astros. We'd heard rumblings for a couple of weeks. What was coming down the road and we knew it was pretty pretty bad We know that the commission she's GonNa ruin the red SOx pretty pretty quickly. That's what we're hearing And we've also heard it's not nearly as bad as the Astros so I'm kind of banking on that anytime you play a team in the world series and the Super Bowl or the or the NBA finals. You WanNa make sure both sides are on the up and up. And I'm hoping that was the case with the with the Red Sox I'm hoping Alex Cora bidding implement everything that he has with Houston in Boston but that's yet to be seen But you know now that is the guys like Bats and David Price on the fold You gotta wait and see. I'm hoping they weren't a part of it. Obviously David price being a pitcher. Sure certainly wasn't that part of it because it was on the offensive side of the ball. And I'm hoping mookie wasn't in wasn't a part of that as well so that's got to be seen Bob Open for the good in

Mark Gastineau wants his single-season sack record back

"Sack success for more casting mark Gastineau it's something that he certainly had of the NFL well the single season sack record from nineteen eighty four until two thousand one and now after keeping quiet for eighteen years he's speaking out the former jet says the single season mark should belong to him and not hall of Famer Michael Strahan destino had twenty two sacks of the nineteen eighty four season stray hand broke that mark in two thousand one against the Packers when quarterback Brett farb seem to take a dive which gave straight and twenty two and a half sacks destino was on hand he graduated strain on the field and hasn't really said anything negative about it until now Gastineau saying nothing against farmer straight and he just wants to be recognized for the record and he's surprised the NFL didn't step in what happened ESPN's ridge so many mark why now it's been eighteen years it happened and he said that you know he's sixty three years old you know you realize he's he is battling H. you know like a lot of us when we get the you know you start putting life perspective it is also had a lot of health issues I don't know if the listeners know what the market's been battling colon cancer is tested for about a year he's battled colon yeah his prognosis looks pretty good right now but he still going for additional follow up tests so I think that coupled with his age may of change things for him a little bit looking at things a little bit differently and he just wants to come out and and he feels like that should be his record any once the recognition he wants people to know that that should be his record I don't disagree with them but rich you you spoke with do you think that he understands that it's not going to be overturned at it that's not going to happen yeah I think you know that you know and I think it actually by the way we should mention that also Jared Allen former Minnesota Viking ingested Houston former Kansas City Chiefs also had twenty two stacked up to a tie with gas to know who did it in nineteen eighty four I think so and security and of course with twenty two and a half and yeah I mean they're never going to change the one little side note a friend of mine the NFL statistician he works games for an NFL team reached out to me and showed me the actual rules that statisticians go by with you know assigning sacks and technically that should not have been recorded as a staff it was no attempt to make a pass on that place so it really should have been ruled like a minus yardage for a rush and not a sack the thing is neither team the Packers or the giants filed a protest at the time so when in the book as a stack but really at the statistician pointed out by the letter of the law it should not have been a sack what is Michael Strahan has here and said anything about this yeah you know that's a really good question of the five years ago six years ago he did NFL life like it was on him you know the NFL network those those documentaries and that came up in the and I were and I re watched it and he was really candid about it and he talked about all the anguish that record has cost him because he's been teased about it and people say well as an asterisk next to it because that check last sack with a cheap one it really giving so he really opened up as to really how much you know like I said English it cost him and I know from talking to Gastineau eight which is somebody would break it I mean someone with disco pass them both and break it cleanly that way this whole issue dies and I know from watching that video with straight hair he two wishes someone would break it just to remove the shadow we circumstances that it happened first Reagan national saying he was also inspired after hearing a recent interview with Pete rose in gas and says that like rose he's trying to get what is rightfully

Did cheating help Astros win World Series? Hinch says we may never know

"Aj hinch and the interview. He did finally breaking his silence of the disgraced astros manager who was fired in the wake of the breaking story in major league. Next glad you said that the ask the disgraced astros manager he was not. There's nothing else to call him. He's a disgrace Astros manager He was caught up up in the science. Dealing Scandal of the Astros didn't do enough to stop it and the first thing rob Manfred did was announced his suspension for Major League Baseball and then a couple allows later. The Astros fired him. You mentioned the interview he did. It's going to air tonight. And he was asked. Does this championship that you wanted. Twenty Lee seventeen. Is it tainted by this new scandal. Unfortunately we open that door as a group in that question I may never be answered. We may never know we're going to have to live and move forward and be be better better in the sport but unfortunately no one can really answer. Threw that question. I I can't pinpoint what advantages or what what happened. Or what. Exactly what happened otherwise but we did it to ourselves. Okay wait I can answer. It had had a lot to do. Look at the home road. Splits of all your headers like Jose Altuve. Have you see our relay race. Home and road splits dislike. It's like four twenty at home one twenty on the road and you remember if correctly that was when they remember lost the Games in New York to the Yankees remember the laws and then at home the they won all games. I mean it was an if I'm a dodger fan. I'm salty as well 2017. MLB CHAMPION DOC. There are two parades coming twenty seventeen and twenty eighteen and then back to back. Alex Cora takes that same show on the road and same thing. I I asked we. We know of this movie Bets trae goes through. You know as as Alex Cora cheated to be named later. Is that a part of the look at you know. I think that was the penalty. Not was the red sox train. mookie Betts to the padres and they said No. No you gotta make amends and trading with the dodgers all right shoulder dodger you owe the dodgers at Aj Aj hinch clearly is in that mode all of us do this in our lives. Whenever something bad happens did the interview though he could he could run and hide for year and not be heard from? I think it's better when you get out in front of it. But is he getting out in front of my saying. I don't know what kind of impact this had. Clearly when you're batters know what's it's coming. It's a lot easier when you go to that length of we're putting in electronic sign stealing system and you play the. I'm only the manager card. I couldn't stop this. No one believes please. You know either. The point where he's at the point in his life and all of us do this right when something happens in our lives. It's bad that we're responsible for. What do we try to do at some point? We try rationalize why it happened. And it's not really our fault. Aj hinch is at this point where who knows what he's GonNa do in baseball again. He's going to manage again. Maybe a couple years somewhere where. I'm not quite sure that he's at that point. where I need to reconcile with myself because I am a world series champion and I'm not going to walk around every day going it was tainted? So I'm I'm GonNa convince myself that I don't know what kind of impact this had altuve as still had to hit the baseball even though he knew what was the old PD argument. So He's in that point of denial. where I'm going is still WANNA walk around and not just feel crappy every day that we won and we won by cheating? So I'm GonNa convince myself that I don't know what we we did. Any act on the game only problem is I get it if you told me that one every game at home then win every game at home even with the cheating scandal. Whoa with knowing what's coming? So that's the part that makes it hard that's why you can't go automatically and say well we should just turn championship over to the dodgers not that the dodgers. aww their fans would want it that way but they didn't win every game using that cheating system so okay so they won three quarters of their. But I'm just saying when eighty percent of they're games that that's the only reason and this could have It doesn't mean that Wa. The team couldn't have beaten them at some point. All I'm saying is I get it cheating. Cheating it helps them. I'm not denying that but it's a reason why you can't take the championship and I don't think that that will work for majorly based on you can easily take like the championship. And you can not awarded to anybody. Say No year but Rob Manfred and look rob Manfred and Adam. Silver are two of the new age commissioners which they they WANNA do nothing they want to do nothing but in grow the game and have great reputations right Adam silver wants to do a little bit less than Rob Manfred but rob Manfred I guarantee aren t you. He thought I'm taking care of this. Here's a suspension for hinch. Here's bench for Jeff Luna. I'm taking care of it and instead what happened. Was it mushroomed out of control to the point. Where an hour an hour after this broke? What was the biggest topic online? Put Pete Rose in the hall of fame. 'cause you're not taking care cheaters enough. This got completely out of control because Manfred doesn't WanNa be the guy where the first line of his wikipedia pages rob Manfred who presided over. MLB taking a world series away from a team for the first time Blah Blah Blah. Aw that would be his legacy. He wasn't going to do it he wasn't going to be the guy to say you're going to look back at my my rain and it's GonNa be pace of play but mainly it's going to be. He took look world series away. He presided over a dark time in major league baseball. He wasn't going to be that guy. I'm not gonNA wear it so I'm GonNa have this suspension and then whatever happens after it gets out of my control and I don't care that's why he didn't do anything. Yeah I I just I never been into it. Even college used to do it and the Olympics and taken away medals and stuff that we watched watched to tell me that Reggie Bush wasn't the heisman trophy winner. You know you could tell me that all you want but I watched that season. Do you know what I mean. So I'm not fully the Internet. I don't think that changes anything. That doesn't take their memory away from me. I think you've just got a penalize the organization but I I'm not into taking championships

When you think of Ichiro's career you think hits and steals, but don't forget about his incredible arm

"You've heard Ichiro reported his he's going to retire after this game today that they're playing this morning in Japan. Now, he has three thousand hits I did some research. Thirty two players have three thousand hits twenty-seven have five hundred home runs. If you're a player, which which feet would you rather achieve five hundred home runs or three thousand hits in today's game. Five hundred home runs. Three thousand hits is nice. But I don't know if people really look at that is that's an incredible it is an incredible feat. I don't know of today's baseball generation looks at that and says boy he had ten consecutive seasons of two hundred hits or more along with Pete Rose. You also stole five hundred basis. I don't think that we look at though, they're not glamour numbers anymore stolen, bases hits. And it used to be. But now, I think it would be home runs. If I could have five hundred home runs as opposed to three thousand hits today twenty years ago. I'm taking the three thousand hits factor in sabermetrics with that opinion because obviously on base percentage has become in some people's mind more important than batting average. You remind me of sabermetrics, I never think of sabermetrics the game. I mean, I don't know if it changed it in a good way. I think there's so many stance with baseball that you're you're you're drunk with stats. You drowned in those stats homerun, very simple. There's nothing to factor in with that. It's just you hit a home run. What if back in the day, they decided to walk counts for a hit which would have been very reasonable. Measure, in fact, probably more reasonable than not counting for. I don't know why they decided not if they did that then you would look at Adam Dunn is I'm sorry. The former White Sox slugger as as valuables in each row. It was just a random decision statistically, not to count walks. Yeah. I mean, you count points for free throws on base percentage. I know that that's a big deal. But it makes you well you keep saying Adam Dunn. One of the great players because I look at on base percentage. I just think a guy who strikes out one hundred eighty times to two hundred times in a season. You're not even putting the ball into play. How can that guy? Be that valuable. Okay. He walks hits home runs or strikes out. That's not somebody. I wanted my lineup. Yeah. Paulie? He didn't really have a great base percentage. No. He did. He did not walk a lot. We do. We ran the numbers a little bit each came into the league at twenty seven. And he was he won MVP as a rookie and rookie of the year. If he would come in just two seasons earlier at twenty-five with how good he was you could tack on another almost five hundred hits he'd be sixth all-time he'd be over thirty five hundred hits. If he just came in at age twenty five twenty seven. Yeah. Now, he's a great player didn't win. Anything was baseball. You can be selfish in a team sport. Because it's you at the plate. Now, there are other mitigating factors in there. But still you go to the plate. It's just you. And he's playing in right field. He was very good outfielder. Great arm. I don't know how many Gold Gloves, but he won a few Gold Gloves out there, but three thousand hits five hundred stolen bases in first. Ballot hall of Famer he came into the league with the Seattle. Mariners magin if he would've came into the league with the New York Yankees with how he came out of the gate. Oh, one through nine. He was through two thousand ten all star every year top twenty MVP every year. Imagine if you did all that with the Yankees where he'd be looked at
