"Clubhouse everything about it was very familiar to me and i loved it and and i think a lot of the players get that opportunity to take a trip down memory lane just a bit now with that win. The cubs maintained eighteen days virtual tie with the cardinals at the top of the national league central that was because earlier in the day. The cardinals took care of business against the reds five to two with help from tommy edmund. Here's a swing and a high fly ball down the left field line. That's it deep to the corner to the wall and it's a goner just inside the poll aw towering homerun tommy edmund. He's three for three today and that home run gives the cardinals four to one lead john rooney on the the cardinals radio network. Jack flaherty was terrific again. Five innings one run another win is last eight starts fifty and a third innings just twenty five hits. It's and eight zero point eight nine era. I think he's gonna play an incredibly important role for the cardinals is they try to win this division. The mets blew out the royals on sunday. Eleven in a five and peter lonzo hit a big round milestone mo to pitch hammers this ball to left. That's going to be number forty way back. Then van law god pete alonzo becomes just a fourth man ever to have a forty home run season. He's the first national league rookie gita ever do it and now that mix single season franchise homerun record is just away from belonging to alonzo outright eleven to five mets here the night that from w._c._b._s. now the mets didn't gain any ground on the washington nationals at the top of the wild card race because the national beat the brewers sixteen eight brian dosier having a good day now..

"We have to go to these position players because we we have worn out our bullpens. We worn out our bullpens because we don't value our starting pitchers and it's it's coming around now and it's going to hurt these guys eventually and it already has some yeah i hope it boomerangs back the other way 'cause you and i've talked about how sport really needs the preeminence starting pitchers to be reestablished pilon so last night it's his thirty nine home run but he also that was the first of five hits he had a game and it was a reminder under that hitting home runs something that we know pete alonso for because he's so big and he's so strong i'd compare them early in the year two rob gronkowski how unusually looks and how he moves but he's a lot more than a big slugger tim right. He is five hit game last night first time ever by the way the mets had two guys is also at five. It's two guys with five it. Same games never happened history of the mets but again this speaks to who pete alonzo is and this is really encouraging to see a young hitter like this who's built in the mode of let's get the ball on the air strike out three times. It doesn't matter all i'm here to is do is hit home runs and instead. He got four hits other than a home run with that homer. Buster got thirty nine one more he breaks the national league record for home runs by a rookie. Keep in mind. It's august sixteen and two more homers. He ties that's record for home runs in a season. What forty one that's where pete alonzo is heading this season but last night he showed again that he's a good all around player. Not just some slugger all right you mentioned you're in williamsport <hes>. What are you going to be doing there well. I'm doing a game today. Which i love doing games from the booth in the leagues i guess because all the players are mice is they can really appreciate who they are and what they're doing. <hes> i just love the atmosphere. I don't wanna be corny about this buster but everyone is in a good mood here all the time. Whether it's it's the people who run the place everyone here is happy and it's really really nice and refreshing to see this and i don't care what anyone says. He skill level of these kids. Especially defensively in the middle infield is breathtaking aching to watch some of them have a lot to learn obviously when i watched the shortstop and second base play which is my favorite part of all games no matter what baseball -aseball or playing when i see that kind of skill level. It's so encouraging that these kids are really working at this and they're not just trying to hit home runs. They're they're actually working on how to play the game and that gives us hope for the future that these kids who play the game so well right now will continue to play the game well and not just think about about how many homers did i all right tim. I was seeing williamsport on sunday alright buster. It'll be great. I know you've done this before but this'll be three years for me with the <hes> with williamsport classic. It'll be fabulous. Let's consider the secret life of the most nesting doll living most of her life in the doc inside the other nesting dolls. He has plenty of time to think if we could sadly she has no brain however when nesting doll here's the geico not tony saves people money but also has been providing great service for over seventy five years..

"I yeah i want to backtrack a little bit and say like team. Homer run records. If it's in like the mid to upper fifties dis those get really exciting. <hes> you know when stan got their own. Ryan howard got their ken griffey junior with the mariners fifty six like those are numbers that that i still remember i think it and honestly i would like it weirdly like trout sort of feels weird just because i don't think of him as purely a home run hitter the way i i would stanton her judge or <hes> maybe pete alonzo turns into this definitive home run hitter over the next few years <hes> but not like griffey getting into the fifties was big. You know stanton getting into the fifties for the first time like you said was big ryan howard ortiz these like titanic power hitters <hes> so like if trout does it. I know solaris up on that. I actually do not have a good handle handle on on the m._l._b. Homerun leaderboard right now <hes> here we go like if trout or christian yelich and they're tied for the major league lead right now with thirty nine and like one of them getting to fifty just feel weird like like they just they're just good player. You're great players all around as opposed to you know i guess cody bellinger's turned into a great all around player but i still think of him as a power hitter i and so it would be i weirdly it will be more impressive if like alonzo ballinger were nelson cruz got way up there. It will be more impressive than if try to reality got a fifty year fifty to fifty five yeah. I think there is a difference in kind. If someone like nelson cruz hits fifty versus trout the one thing i'll say about trout is it's far far far too early to even consider this but by the end of the season isn't mike trout will have the fifth most voice of any player through age twenty seven and i just want to make a note that obviously alex rodriguez was ahead of the pace he has forty more home runs than anyone else the rates twenty-seven and for myriad reasons he fell short of bonds record word in fifth place right now the guy who is going to pass soon as albert pulses teammate <hes> and we have seen how his chase is going to fall short but just like over the next few years. Keep keep it in the back of your mind especially if mike trout who now i i mean it's still weird to think of him that way because i still kind of think of him as the guy who burst onto the scene stealing stealing forty-nine basis but he's gonna hit. Maybe fifty home runs for the first time he's going to lead the league in home runs for the first time probably he's the power hitter now and it's not out of the question to start watching those leader boards and seeing how quickly and how hyg never considered that yeah i guess we always sorta did talk in abstract terms about trout getting into his thirties in moving the left field and beefing up you know in so far as that's it's possible for him to beef up anymore. Interning at forty five fifty homer guy i'd never considered the arc would sort of look hank. Aaron ish probably because air there is never hit fifty home runs but he thirties and forties every single year which trout has basically done since his wet sophomore more season and if you consider the fact that he's missed.

"But it's just 'til for me to put optics on the radar of this front office at this point it really is. Yeah. Because it's like, who even talking about, you know, and you need to tell me, you, you give a fuck about how that looks like never pulling on a glass and on the field. But that's what you give about. And if so that's just that is par for this. Course by the way, the phrase is there. Anything more Mets is probably played out. But is there anything more Mets finally having like a star level roof? Who may hit fifty home runs having that season. Be Furling services overshadowed by utter utter. Avoidable bullshit by the shots pita Lonzo he has already is tied or broken broken the Mets single record for home runs by a rookie twenty six by Darrell strawberry pita Lonzo had that. Yeah. June twenty third or whatever. Yeah. That's the thing is that he I mean these single season. Mets home run record is within reach for Pete Alonzo, and he'll probably get there, which is greatest position player in franchise history is probably only a year or two away for Pete. So we crop. It's a week route that was the job. But I'm on. By the way, Jay has turned his hat front words. But when it was backwards, he definitely looked like silent Bob. That's not a compliment. Play a little pepper here. Dow Dallas are you ready uranium playing a little pepper here in Dallas? 'cause we got some things to discuss. Toefl for Jordan Hicks. Didn't see that coming. Yeah. This, this news. I actually I have a heart. I do I have a heart. When I saw this news, I genuinely felt elated. Yeah. Key montage has received an eighty game suspension, one of my favorite things to do because this is become routine as a baseball fan slash on bias national baseball journalists when an eighty game suspension gets handed down. First thing I do is I researched what they tested positive for because I think casual baseball fans or even just the general public that doesn't really care about baseball, but they're fascinated by the controversies that happened within the game. You see an eighty game PD suspension like up steroids steroids..

"I couldn't find my remote? It was stuck. I'm not kidding. And so there's this young guy named Pete Alonzo. Yeah. For the Mets. And he's, he's doing really good rookie season and I watched a post game interview, and they talked to him a bat flip. I think John Ross asked him. Bob baffling. Here's. Well, you know, I think you should celebrate home. So home runs, or some so tough to come by, but he said he goes here. The so tough to get home. Run. You celebrate. You wanna celebrate with that said he goes when we were up by ten he goes, I'm not doing it, then he actually said that the other night during his interview because he was I think you celebrate early in a game or in a big situation situation, but we're we have a big lead late in the game. I'm probably not gonna baffler. He just said that last night. And that's just common sense that if you have a big mole, I'm all for spontaneity. You have a big moment you score celebrate. But when you're blowing out somebody. Okay. What's the big deal here? Ten nothing. Hey, I just homered and I'm gonna bad flip or. I'm gonna stare down the pitcher or I'm gonna look in the dugout and give the Michael Jordan shrug. Like I don't know what I'm doing out here. Yeah. Fritzy. What about the whole competing versus the leading up when your head of its ninety five seventy at a basketball, it's not about celebrating? This isn't about hitting a home run. It's what you do after you. Hit the home run. I don't ask. I don't want you to stop playing in if I was playing against you when we're getting crushed, I would not want you to go, you know, show leniency, I wouldn't want you to bring it bring it on, like a mercy rule whenever we would play like after I graduated in played some softball, and there'd be a mercy rule of, like, you know, screw that. Let's just keep playing. I don't care how much you blow us out by. But if you guys are taking threes, if you're up by twenty five with two minutes left has got to be, you know, a gray area somewhere in certain sports, if you wanna take three take three you celebrate the three then it's a little different. Yes. See that's how I feel like a lot of this. It's being with the, the women's team. It's the sort of under the umbrella of the women's team, but I really feel like it's directed. It at Alex Morgan. Because she she scored the five goals, which is great and she celebrated harder than anybody after all five of those goals. Whereas somebody like like Mallory Pugh who's twenty one and scored a first World Cup goal and really just ran over and hugged her teammates, and then ran off I had, like nobody has a problem with now. Nobody has a problem with anything like that. It's a huge moment for her, and a huge moment for her career, and she really didn't go bonkers about it. But if you're running over to the sideline with the people in who aren't playing in the vest and doing this sort of, like waving back and forth thing after your fifth goal and it's I don't know ten or twelve nothing. Whatever it was at that point. That's a little a little excessive much. That's all tune in NBA finals pregame postgame analysis, highlights commentary and insight gametime live NBA finals presented by YouTube TV nightly on NBA TV couple of phone calls in here. Let's go to Julian California. Hi, joel's. Hey, dan. How's it going? Like you said no problem with the amount of goals and a celebration. Was it a little excessive sometimes that I think, you know, in the case of Alex Morgan, her fifth goal ties and all time record with Michelle Akers? He's one of the founders of the team. And, you know, you go to other sports, you go to MLB if a player is hitting their three thousand pit in a blowout game. You don't begrudge them that celebration. You don't feel like it's callous for that player in their teammates to celebrate that moment. So I think that, you know, there's some context there that, that is a big deal. And that is a career moment for her as from Alary pew, so. Okay. Well, thank you, Julie. I appreciate that. Yep. I have the feeling. I know what's going to happen here. I don't know who USA plays next. But when they get their first goal, they're going to do nothing. They're gonna like overly overly going to shake hands shake Pat, Pat, on the back know almost like to make a point. I had the feeling that will happen. Yeah. Brad in Arkansas. Hey Brad, what do you have for me today? Good, sir. What do you have? It's amazing. I love your, your movie worked at the mazing. Well, thank you. Brian. The scoring thing if you don't like stop it. What? I don't understand it. They tried. They tried Brad. I you know, the scoring I don't have a problem with its the celebrating though. I know that I have to stop the scoring from you celebrating. But, you know, one thing I can't control the other thing you can control in that is your celebrating and I just thought the US you know, you're up thirteen nothing after a while you go. Okay. Now that teams not any good you roughed him up last time you face them, and it looks like they're even worse now though. Congratulations thirteen nothing. Chris in Ohio. Hi, chris. What do you have for me? Good morning guys. I just wanted to comment on the women's World Cup score here too. I have been either playing or been involved in coaching soccer for twenty five years. So I think there's a very simple thing. And this debate at the very tactical thing of what Thailand was doing is, they're sitting back in blading pressure from the US. So from a sense of not trying to score wouldn't it be more insulting to them. If they just kept if the US just kept the ball around midfield, and pass it between the same four players. Yes. So you know, I don't I don't quite understand from a from a tactical standpoint. What would you what you what you want them to do or what you expect them to do? When Thailand game plan with inviting the US into their they're attacking the entire into this isn't about scoring and Chris, we can't be breaking down. Thailand's game plan either. But this is this is not about scoring this is about celebrating Thailand's game plan to let USA score thirteen. So they'd be made fun of on the world stage. Didn't yes, mclovin. Okay. I don't think it is it that disrespectful to. It's not if it's a one nothing game in the US was attaching it's one nil nil. The midfield or something disrespectful about that. I don't think that disrespectful to sort of bat the ball around a little bit in the last and they they did like the last minute. I mean we're arguing two different things here. I say album with you attacking and scoring. I have no problem if it's goal differential. I it's like you know when you. You have a victory in football, and you win by forty five. Do you really need, you know tack on style points? Isn't this like winning by a hundred and forty five though the score? I mean, but I want you to still compete in, if I was facing you, and you were dominating me, I would still want you to bring it your competitor. I have I have no problem if you. But if you celebrate like you just won the NBA championship when you hit a three pointer in the up by forty two, then, yeah, I have a problem with that goal differential, like the Dan Fowler, NBA or WMA, I think they would pull back more. If, if there wasn't competitive reason to score, I think most teams would pull back, I think they probably, I want you to listen, this was courtesy of TSN. These are Canadian broadcasters. Ripping the US women's soccer players for celebrating these are former players for the Canadian national team who had the following deci. But it was the way in which. They did it which is now sparking headlines and Clara loved what you said, if you were going to blow away a team do it with humility, and they did not Meghan repeat who scored countless goals on the international stage. She was celebrating like she had her first, we can understand if it was the first goal like Mallory few. But when you're Alex Morgan, too, and you're counting your goals. It was just unacceptable. I understand there's a goal differential, race in this segment. I understand they're nervous about drawing Sweden later in the tournament. But this was disgraceful. It from the United States, I would have hoped they could have won with ability in grace, but celebrating goals, eight nine ten the way they were doing is really unnecessary. I'm all about passion. And I think as a Canadian we would just never ever think of doing something like that we played against the Americans before where you have a player Christine, Sinclair, scoring three goals, and she would never even think about counting how many goals she has on one hand for meets disrespectful. It's disgraceful. I just hats off to Thailand for holding their head high. I mean their first time on a World Cup stage. I'd love to be there to just hunt them all. Yeah, the US is fully capable of blowing teams. And of course in the World Cup. You're not going to hold back and maybe they have an internal target. They wanna meet or China break the record. But I mean it embarrasses the word for Jill Ellis. I think the way she was leading her team in this one. Well, we'll see if maybe they can look back on this tape and think differently because coming up next for them, they have the thirty ninth ranked Chileans okay. You throw out the records when you have USA versus the Chileans, you can watch this and stunning four k b twenty nine thousand nine women's World Cup. You could have seen all thirteen goals in four K direct TV, four K channels one five one six don't miss the twenty thousand nine hundred zero women's World Cup FOX FOX words, one in Fox Sports too. So I mentioned rob stone, who is the host of FOX's coverage there in France will join us coming. Got a poll question here. Let me see Patrick, North Carolina. Hi, patrick. What do you have for me today? Hey DP was going on. Six to one eighty five. All right. Yeah. I just I hear you're trying to parse, we're talking to different things here. So I'm going to talk specifically about the celebrations to gets lost a little bit is, you know, when you're comparing baseball football basketball, we have we're drowning in those games every single year every season, these games are always happened. This is the tournament that happens once every four years, and these women work, incredibly tirelessly. Throughout really their entire lives to get to this point. They're traveling across the globe. They're not going from Boston to New York, and they're reaching they've reached the pinnacle of their sports, and they're seeing all of their hard work and dedication. You know, things that their parents have done their families, sacrifices that people around them that they love them come to fruition, at the highest level of their sport. And I don't understand why we feel like judging these women who are simply expressing joy at seeing all of their hard work come to fruition. Okay. But you can score a goal. I have no problem with that Patrick. You can score a goal. I just I, I can't start celebrating the tenth eleventh twelfth thirteenth goal like it was one nil. In extra time. I absolutely understand your point. And it's fine to have everyone. I think is going to have an opinion on this. Right. Because it's not something that's and this isn't about the women. This is about Anthony men were good enough to do this. I'd be critical them. I mean, the dream team celebrated against Angola. I mean I had a problem without as well. It's angola. So this isn't just the way I don't, don't make this gender me. And I know Canada wants to make this cultural. It's about the United States and what they would do. And of course, Canada would never do that. Okay. That's fine. No, that's fine. But, but, but if you want to go Adam and score thirteen.

"But I think they've really overachieved I have some friends who are twins fans and they will tell you that some of these guys have probably over performed early in the season, and they have bullpen issues as well, similar to what the dodgers have, right. Yeah. I mean and other than ODA Risi, I don't know that they've got a frontline starter on that. And I think that they would look to sign a guy like Dallas puzzle. There's a rumor out there that they will sign kaikal and kimbrough. It wouldn't surprise me. I mean, they've got they've got a very low payroll, so it's not impossible for them to do it this, they're shot right now. And they've got all the bats. I think they're going to need. Yup. Offensively. I think they're going to address pitching and that wouldn't surprise me that would make things awfully interesting. The American League. If you had the twins loading up with those two guys Astros are stacked and you have the Yankees as well. The razor good. The Red Sox are good. Yeah. Yeah. It'll be interesting. Dodgers heavy favorites now to win the World Series there. Four to one picks to win the World Series. Yeah. It's one of those things where we know they're going to win the western divisions. Unless something crazy happens. They're going to probably going to have the best record the National League in home field throughout. And then you get to the playoffs and you hear people say it is a crap shoot. Once you get to walk tapers so anything can happen. But I would be surprised at this point if it's not the dodgers winning a third straight nationally. Wow. Wow. Can I go back to Alex for Dougal for just a second? So Pete Alonzo's having an outstanding year. Right. And I think we were talking about this a little bit before may swear. He doesn't have the home runs and the RBI numbers, but his all his other numbers are fantastic. 'cause he gets on base all the time, and he's really right in the thick of the National League rookie of the year race Kenney still win it without those big power number's. Yeah. Just depends on the voters. The voters will look at Pete Alonzo's numbers at the end. And if this is a guy that has forty plus homers, as a rookie, he's probably gonna win it, even if he's eating to fifty to sixty something like that. What Alex vertigo does he does so many the little things that don't show up in the box, scores that no mar and Jerry just absolutely love from a young guy. A rookie who's able to put the ball in play when you need him to go the other way just to, to try to put the ball on the ground. Sometimes making the plays in the outfield. He is. And he's a bundle of energy to. Yeah. We used to have Yossi El Puig. Now, we have Alex redo go. This is a guy that is keeping things loose and fun in the dugout. Not that other guys don't as well. But he's just a lot of fun to watch every single day. He's without the without the drama. One way to put it. Yeah. I can say, all right. Hey, listen. We'll let you get to the studio Arizona tonight. And it's a good pitching matchup Rattray in Walker Beulah. She'll be a lot of fun. Six thirty. Start time. We're on the five thirty. Awesome. And great seeing you. Thanks.

"Here's I'll tell you right now. If I'd stayed up till to clock in the morning watching that disgraceful disgraceful loss, by the Mets last night. I, I don't know if I'd be today, I have to give you cry game. That is describes the worst loss, haunted disgrace at about one fifty a m I gave thought to just wearing all baseball for the rest of my life that I could understand. And I started to think, well, what the hell am I gonna do with my life? I mean I can't work anymore. I'm sworn off baseball. I think I'm done. Right. An entrepreneur, I guess I could start a business run for office take over my dad's job, you run for office, why the hell not a get elected. I have no party. I'm a homeless man in that regard. Well off. No. But the anger and sadness that I had at one fifty in the morning should not happen. Sports fans for a baseball game in may and all about that. Gloria had in March when the nets came back from twenty eight down against the kings at one o'clock in the morning. These could not be any more different. This was the polar opposite. And as of watching this game, here's where I just ate myself. I can eight my you actually at one point news game, and you should know better met fan. I'm on one point in this game you actually said gonna win this game. Yeah. Yeah. I'll tell you this. So no up. Eight three I'll course, Noah Syndergaard given a three nothing lead. Promptly gives it back up to in the second third. And at that point, I can lose Noah Syndergaard socks. They're gonna lose right to know his credit he settled down this manager actually pushed him and allow them to come out six with pitch count of one. Oh, three. The Mets took the lead in the fifth, Lynn Pete Alonzo. I love that guy that. Man, I love him. Oh my God. Hates two run Homer. They get another run because Dany Etcheverry is an RV machine about him. He's gonna catch Ravi can very soon. And so the Mets are up in this game. They get back to back home runs by my guy. I'm sorry. Oh and Dom Smith. Dom. I live with the lousy getting three hits a night. Let me tell you guys on believable, so they're upping to free, and then they have second third, and nobody out and get myself boy, it'd be really nice. You put him away here. Make it a nice easy. Final hour this game. Right. I see. And we'll sit around struck out. Okay. Fine still gotta run in Todd failure to run his vision. He's been great guys got thirty one Rb big number. Yeah. Todd Frazier, pops up and Carlos Gomez flies out to right. And this is where I'm an idiot, I said, you know, as much as that sucks that they could have broken the game open, even more they're up. Eight Friday gonna win. They're gonna win was the keys. They'll be fine gives up a run in the seventh and the four they'll be fine familiar gives up a home run. The Cory Seager bomb take the five but he gets the beginning. Okay. Eight to five I got it on the mound. The one guy I trust. It'll be okay. It'll be fine. Get ahead of jock Petersen jock Peterson found a bunch of pitches off. And you know what I'm saying to myself, because again, I'm an idiot, I am complete moron. I'm saying you know what just don't walk them even if you give up a home run. Find just don't walk home run. Okay. Didn't walk them. Eight six don't worry about it. Max muncie. Hits a home run at that point panic turned on. Of course, I went from our walk to are you kidding me? This is a one. This is a one run game. There's nobody out. And when Justin Turner hit a line drive into the corner for a double. It was. And then Cody valley ahead of Cody Bellinger. This is the thing that wrote me nuts last night show for degrom before that facility, going in for Edwin Diaz. How many times do I have to watch a pitcher, who supposedly electric stuff? Get ahead of a guy to strive. I know not being able to put we've seen it all year. We see just about every pitcher role. Yeah. I mean how many to counts turned into three and two counts before you turn around or all year. We've seen it that or they literally give up ahead on one to the Cody Bellinger. RBI double was on a one to count, Edwin the as couldn't put anybody away. So I gotta hear him say through his later, throwing the pictures I wanna I wanna throw it felt good. I felt great. I didn't feel great. I feel great watching, and that one to pitch boundary was right down. The freaking mill any rip it and then it's a tie game. And now you're just like you're waiting for the inevitable. And then here's how things get worse. At least they could at least ended quickly for you and didn't. You have to go through fourteen innings. Okay. That's a fair pool. Give the credit. But here's how got word is grace. I gotta give you the underrated how it got worse store. I don't see how it's worse at this first and second, nobody out game. But you thinking maybe can get to the Senate who knows. The battery ready been out out of done just reconciled the losses. They'll lose you would've been right of court well in this Matt Beatty again head onto needed strikeout. First and second out. But hey can get a double play great, right? Beats grumble shortstop off the top. I'm thinking, he could turn huge fields. It kinda hesitates gets put the second can't the first basis. Nobody out. They couldn't even get it out. But guess what there's more because now Alex Verdoux goes up again. You know, maybe you could strike them out, and then you looking at David freeze on grounds with double play is more into the count is to into it's a fly ball. The left Gomez says, I'll tease everybody by catching this and I'll make a big throw. You never know and obviously the throat no shot and the Mets lost is freaking game. And I wanted to destroy my television and just quit based out your life. I swear to God brighter. I give you so much credit for. Because there's no way I would stay up on a playoff game. It's one thing regular season game. But the lose the game like that it's just let's be honest about this is just like every all the freaking closet of Mets. Everyone you named the guy you wanna give you Benitez. You wanna give me Brayton Lupu? You wanna give me Franko even going back to Jesse Roscoe? Give me give me Frankie Rodriguez. Gimme ooh Mel role. Hawes guy give me the guy who's my he familiar when he was closing. Give me the guy. They're all the freaking same. How can I argue? And this straight is going to starting to go to the to deceive trade level, it starting to move in that direction as one of the worst rates. Well, here's daunting to get the here's why this trade could get there. We're not there yet. Well, let's put it nicely. It's off to a bad start. Yes. Yes. Nicely. This trade was about acquiring windows, and it was about the Mets saying, we're willing to take those contract with a top prospect to get twenty five year old all-star from a year ago, had a historical year last year. Say fifty seven games, you got him under team control for the next two years. And the Mets may have one of the best clothes in baseball, not making a lot of money for the next half decade. And that's why this deal was made thought, maybe you'll get something out of canal so far. You haven't, and there's no reason to believe you get anything out of him because he's old. Not on various been a lot better. Yes, he started playing. Let's be down, but at windy as off to a terrible start to put it in perspective last year in that great year. Atwood, Seattle gave a five home runs all year this year's already given up five including two last night. And the kind of safe you can't blow is the game last night for many reasons as a free leading. Right. Right. Right. Right, right. Right, right. Don't allow three runs asking that much. And number two where this game was in the season. What's next, and what just happened? What I mean by that is if the Mets won last night, they'd be about five hundred. If the Mets have won last night, the dodgers would have lost back to back games for the first time in almost a month. Think about that. And you would have gone into tights game with a little bit of house money. No doubt about it. Totally agree with that instead, you are likely to lose tonight and lose this series. You're going to be two games under five hundred instead of being at five hundred or dare I say how games over five hundred and now you've got a question the mental toughness of windy ass because he's never had to face this. You heard what his interpreter said? Worst day of my life in baseball. Well, how you going to respond right here booth? At city field real soon Powell. How is he going to respond? And so it's not the worst trait ever yet. But there are a lot of elements to this trade that has gotten off to a historically, bad start no doubt and to say, it's the worst trade name street, a Mets, then we'll see if that happens with yet to be determined to Saint a lot of bad ones. It would be tough to match. It's tough one. Just I don't know. I'm disgusted under says a met fan. I'm happy you have to be, and the thing that killed just like have a one of those total no-show game tonight, we're Rog gets a lit up. Maybe he gives you three innings and he'd just get crushed. But, you know it is that's baseball. Susan, right. But still, the problem is even if that doesn't happen and Vargas pitches. Well, this bullpen is a dumpster fire terrible. Nobody in this you could trust. Nobody only good news is that it looks like Seth Lugo may actually be activated this weekend and hopefully upon activation. He's good. He picks up right where we left off, but outside of that Robert shaky familiar shaky. It looks like ganja in Basler coming back to earth. Now, et Wendy as you got to wonder about, you know. John batchelor. They ever really honor. Let's start with that for a little bit. Yeah. Okay. Bailey. Let's be real draft is next week. They go sign creek Kimble now. I mean seriously. I mean really we're going to get cow along. We're gonna Umer ourself thinking, Edwin the ass. Second coming, Marrianna Rivera. Okay, because he's not he's, he's a typical typical freaking relief pitcher. That's what he is. If that's are serious about winning. Yes. And what's so weird about this is as we sit here game under five hundred late may then buried? No, no, no. The Phillies have their own issues to deal with, who knows what's going to happen with the Deuba Harare, and they've got some flaws. The Braves has got an island by the Nazis. They're not done. Five still five out of six now now at six now. It's a wildcard spot that they could be if you are serious about winning and I don't know if the Mets are okay, I've no indication that ownership is fully serious about winning. But if you are serious about winning you damn right? Of course you pick up that phone. You gotta go. Get this guy. You got you got. Maybe the best pitcher in baseball. I one of them is up there. There's no doubt about this guy sitting here for taking. Okay. I get it. I get it. The draft is what next week Tuesday the draft. Yeah. Okay. So sunday. It's the compensation goes away. It's Sunday night. The compensation goes away Sunday night, Monday morning. He should be met. He's not gonna be, of course not..

Yelich's 14th homer helps Brewers beat Mets 8-6

"Yelich hits it in the air team right field. Racing back. His Conforto that all changes here yelich goes deep and the brewers lead at five zero one he is now tied for the most home runs before may first in major league history that is his fourteenth Dinger of the year in the fifth inning is the brewers. Take a five one lead to the bottom of the fifth with one out Pete Alonzo gets a basic here comes Robinson canal Woodruff's pitch ground ball to third could be to shot to second for one Arshi is the first time and the brewers turn the double play and eating is over. Second time Robinson knows involved in a double play. He had these strike them out. Throw him out earlier on brewers would add to their lead in the top of the sixth inning. Robert gazelle machine comes on to pitch I battery faces. Hey, Seuss Aguilar. He strikes out. But then Ben gambled. Doubles Lorenzo Cain lined up to the second hour of the day intentionally walked Christian yelich to get to Mike loose dacas. Basell brings home the pitch and Mushtaq is ground. Paul left side that's gonna get through into left field. Gambles around thirty is gonna try to score. No throw coming and move stock is drives in another. It's six to one brewers. Brandon Woodruff would be done after five innings. He gives up just one run on six hits junior. Garrett comes into pitch in the sixth inning throws a scoreless. Six brewers would get into a little bit of trouble though in the seventh inning. Alex Wilson comes onto pitch ipad or he faces. I'm Ed Rosario Rozario for two and hope for five the series. It's one torch right-center long run, Lorenzo Cain. Over as head. And this one is going to be gone all run for a metro sorrow and the Mets at around at sixty two next hitter. Travis d'arno pitch from Wilson ride in the left field line is headed for the corner. It's a fair ball off the wall gamble gets too quickly. Fires into second base. Here's at the tag is in time. They got Dr no not perfect draw from Ben Gammel. Yeah. They get them at second that ends up being a huge play, especially when you consider how the rest of this ending would go down. Dominic. Smith comes up as a pinch hitter. He would walk and that would end the day for Alex Wilson. Alex Claudio comes in would give up a base hit Jeff mcgeough or there's also a throwing error on the play next hitter. After that as pita Lonzo. Here's the pitch. Fly ball field. Gambled back. This ball is gone. He Alonzo homerun. Number nine and just like that. It's a one run game. Yes. Six five. So that's where Dr no being out at second really has a big role in this game in the way it was going so one run game. But the brewers would get some more insurance in the top of the eighth inning. Greece. Kamilia comes into pitch for the Mets per battery phases. Ben gamble. He walks Lorenzo Cain. Then gets Basit runners on at the corners for Christian yelich on yelich pitch chopper. First base side. It is a fair ball gambles coming home. He's gonna score yelich beats the Piat. I it's an infield single. The brewers at a run at seven five canes at second wild pitch by juries familiar. Cain would move to third after might moussaka strikes out swinging. The next hitter is yes, Monte GRANDE. All familiar throws runner. Takes office swinging about off the glove of Amelia canes, coming home. He's going to score as Grondahl is out at first base yellow pages in scoring position. Mission. It's an RBI ground for Grondahl and a huge run scores again. Eight five brewers Mets would start shipping away again though in the bottom of the eighth inning. Jeremy Jefferson comes onto pitch. The first battery faces JD Davis. He walks Brandon Nimmo than singles and the next hitter. After that is I'm Ed Rosario Jeffers throws lupin wider base hit field.

"Well, Pete Alonzo straightaway center field two run home run to give the Mets now top of the seventh inning. And they're still batting with. Nobody out top seven. It is now six two Metropolitans Alonzo with homerun number six and seventeen Rb is now living up to all the hype living up to all the back page headlines front page headlines medal page headlines. And again, I mean, and you know that the first four runs in this game Resor a- with a three run home run. And and of course, an RV I base it. So the Mets leaving Atlanta now. Now, a Matt's ended the top of the seventh inning of flying out with the bases loaded. Good chance. He's out. Out of the game. And you don't wanna breath your luck. But on the other hand here hoping that the bullpen is going to shut down the Braves the Mets may just have to outscore whatever whenever the bullpen is out there and just have enough runs. And this is part of it. You would think with the Yankees at the moment to goal though, you get with the Yankees. The script says get that get the Yankees lead. And the bullpen is gonna hold it. Although they're not holding their their own very well at the moment now here same thing with the Metropolitans their bullpen as not been very good. And certainly as we've already seen with Atlanta their bullpen so far early in the season. Not very good also. But the Mets ought to be scoring some runs and we'll see who comes out for the bottom of the seventh inning the line on mats. And again, he. Only gave up the two runs and the first drawn. You could make the argument even though the official scoring in Atlanta. Obviously you could make the argument that to miss plays in the outfield by nemo. And by lagaras, led to the Braves, I run Kamar. Joe hit a home run off a Mets to make make Atlanta have with the two that they have and the line on Matt's six innings with the two runs one walk eight strikeouts. And only four hits allowed. So again and a good have been with the official scoring. It could have been even a better line than that. But that's a good effort for mats, and the Metropolitans lead the brave six to still betting a course with a a man out here in the top of the seventh inning pito on. So has bet rookie of the year is what he's been if you're. To give that award ten eleven twelve games into the season, Darryl is calling from Manhattan. Daryl you're on the fan. I I long time say, thank you. Next question about sure agency at this summer. I don't know if you have a target other than Durant. Kyrie irvings of the world who do you like maybe the next level type guys put it up? Well, of course, would love to have Durant and either an Irving who did say he wanted and he's from New Jersey as you know, and he did say one time that he would like to play for the New York knickerbockers, again, you ideally, you would love to have a Durant. And if not her Ving, certainly a Kemba Walker. Walker who Walker who has I think from Bronco down Vernon or somewhere up above Manhattan. I think he's actually probably less of a head case what I can. Another papers seems to be a good person. We're every Irving seems to be a little bit of a head case now issue, and I don't know if it says, I'm willing hanger, maybe privileged himself. But let me ask you about the facets Pinon. Any thoughts are the masters. I don't know if you get into the Gulf and whatnot and so forth and so on, but I would love to know. And I think he would offer if you play, but based on the way you allies sports with a pinion on the golf at Augusta and the tradition the masters when he brings to it. You possibly would think the dolphin. Afternoon on CBS order. What do you think? Well, here's the interesting thing. I'm not a big fan of it. I did try to play. I I can't pronounce the word golf because I think there's an element there. But the way I pronounce it. It's geo F F. I worked in Atlanta, many years ago and actually joking around are you serious? Well. I'll be honest. I am being honest. I'm not the biggest fan of golf. I mean, I don't watch it every week. I will look in on this. Of course, the four majors. And of course, Tiger Woods, not one of my favorite professional athletes for a lot of reasons and that's been over the years express. How ever after round one he leads the tournament. I know from this years ago in the seventies. I worked for a television station in Atlanta, Dobie, X I A T V eleven alive and attended a master's, very clean and very pure and very beautiful as the Gusta cores, and it's been well documented in talked about with all the holes, and those that are deci game breaking or the, you know, golf breaking holes. The toughest. Goals. Easiest it's a beautiful course with the dogwoods and the eyes Alia's and the grass that looks like a painting from Picasso, and you don't even wanna step on let alone. Oh, Bob play any activity on it. But the bottom line is. I do watch. I do look in on the masters. No little bit of. I don't follow. It all the time. And I don't play the sport. When I was a kid in high school tried to play some golf, and they were all like base it up the middle ground balls over second base. And we did it. Well, we did get some lift when we did able to raise the golf ball off the tee and into the air. It did hit a number of bushes or trees very nearby. So we were not very good at that. And and again as as a young man getting into the business covered a number of golf tournaments when I was in sacra tomato was at Pebble Beach, and I did an interview once with Jack Nicklaus. So there's my my claim to to fame at. At Pebble Beach with the Bing Crosby, but and and Bing Crosby was alive at the time him and Phil Harris used to call hosted the tournament with the Pebble Beach in the brain Crosby, and the whole thing once in LA and Hollywood at the Riviera Country Club didn't interview with Bob Hope, and that's about it with the goal. But I did interview the Golden Bear Jack Nicholson, I think the golfers when I was young delete Trevino's and the Gary players and the Arnold Palmer's. And the Jack Nicklaus's were of course, better than the group you have today. And of course, with the Tiger Woods. I mean again like with the substances and the doctor Galera, and you know, the shadiness we only think of Anthony Bosch from with Florida. Well, I mean, listen with Tiger Woods. He made of he may have had some vitamins and minerals that helped his game too. And I just because of his attitude with caddies and with fans, and since he lost his father who was his mentor and not just as father, but his mentor teacher and his best friend, and certainly a great great gull for however, not a fan of Tiger Woods. But nonetheless, I look in Saturday and Sunday with this tournament there. The Hartford Open the irregular PGA tour. I don't pay much attention to it all and again, if it's baseball versus golf, what do you think I'm gonna be looking in on? But the masters one of the majors, of course, I will.

"Starts is almost their way of trying to make sure to ground doesn't fall into that same pattern of a year ago where he relies. Is on one guy and Mickey four that had nothing to do with that. It was just coincidence. And so I do think it's going to settle in here where more often than not since Wilson Ramos is the starting catcher on his team. Wilson Ramos is going to be the kind of catches ground like give to whoever wants, honestly. But you know, what here's an listen Tomas Nido is actually a well regarded defensive catcher in the organizations mind, but you saw zero at the plate with Tomas Nido pitch. Maybe the best game of his career. I really do think that the graph is the type of guy. Yeah. He likes throwing them as Rocco, but he is good enough that it really shouldn't matter if he's on who's back there, Steve gal. I just feel like of all the people. You don't want to mess around with like, you know, just give to who wants. Anyway. This was interesting. See we had Hankas area big time Mets fan big time. You know scarred. Mets fan we're talking about Pete Alonzo, and we're talking about like when will you see enough to believe like believe for real, you know, because we lived through Ike Davis. That's fan Sar. So he hits two more home runs yesterday. Bond was the kind of garbage time. But what do you want to see from Alonzo where you would give Mets fans like the thumbs up the green light to be like, all right? This guy's for real thing. I always look for with any of these big prospects the same as you know, when Conforto came up and looked like he was unstoppable.

Alonso hits 1st career HR to help Mets beat Marlins 7-3

"In the Marlins Pete Alonzo was becoming a hero in New York. Well, he went really deep. Second rider to the bell is first pitch Alonso crushes one of the air deep to right center. This is career. Four to three Homer at a right center field a personal milestone at a huge one for the New York bits as they've got it front of the Marlins. Now is how he rose WCBS. Josh did you see replay that home? I mean that looked like hit like a two iron with we crush that. Very you BUSTER. Yes. A two iron. I was actually going to go with a three wood. But no probably a little bit more accurate. Who bet he he he when he hits the ball. He kills it. I think I I read that it was the longest home run by any anybody in that ballpark. Since John Carlos Stanton was with the team Mets win that game. Seven three. Don Mattingly Marlins manager was very unhappy about some calls in this game. I guess I'm not supposed to complain about calls or whatever. But the league look at it because it was shaky tonight. I understand the whole Marlins aren't supposed to be good this year. And I guess it's okay to pile on. But the they got a it's got to be better than that. Shakey tonight.

"Where it relates to the Mets. Even though it's a bad business decision for Pete Alonzo to make this is a bad business decision to lose a year of service time, we all admit that. Do you think that creates goodwill to agents to say, wow? The. Maybe in that way. It's worth it. I think it's worth it. I also I think there's there's a reason to I believe this is a good team. We're gonna find out. Okay. When you start playing the season. That's when you find out, whether you know, what you think is right. But. I think they have created a lot of goodwill. Look at a guy like Carlos Gomez. Okay. I don't know. He's out there. He didn't have a job. Okay. Now, supposedly, he's not officially signed. That is still kind of up in the air. But there a guy, you know, who is least interested in coming here. Even though he knows that the the millions in front of him is is pretty full. You know, you got a lot of people, you know, you like ours. Braxton guys that are already in his in his realm. So is there a future here for him? I don't know. But he wanted to come here because of what he get hurt. So many took a caller mentioned this I'm willing to pass on it. But I want to ask the question any interest in Adam Jones, or do you think they're comfortable with their mixing centerfield right now. I don't think so I I'd be surprised if they you know, they brought in an Adam Jones. I, you know, I, I don't know. I I was kinda surprised that Baltimore didn't take him back. But whatever, you know, maybe that happens. Eventually, I don't I don't think there's any interesting. I'm okay, not bringing them in because for now. And things can change based on the way guys performer injuries. I'm good with McNeil. Getting.

"Who's the guy who drills you who's you guy? You spend the most time with with first base as far as the coaching staff from that standpoint. Who's your guy who you're working with? Two guys that sprang. So I've been working with ten Southall tremendous amount. And then also like Gary I've seen. No, I mean, both those guys spent a lot of time with me, and I'm I'm really thankful for it. Because I mean without them giving me the opportunity to have like a have like a good work in practice. I kept me grounder talking through. Some things are hit me hit me some picks in going through different scenarios and stuff like that. And I mean, that's I wouldn't be where I'm at in my progression. Because I mean without them offering themselves help me get better than I mean that that's huge. I wouldn't I wouldn't be where I'm at. Well, you know, what is sounds like it's going. Well, I was going to have an eye on it. It's going to be one of the real stories of this spring throughout the entire spring. And you got a lot of attention with that first home run. So you kind of got everyone excited and everybody's looking forward to it. So hopefully things will. Work out. So it's going to be going to be one of the stories of the next month. So good luck. We'll be we'll check it on us. And hopefully things are headed in the right direction. Thank you. I appreciate I appreciate it so much. Thank you. Good luck to you. Thank you. You have a good one is. Well, my pleasure Pete Alonzo the met first baseman of the future. The question is when does the future begin remember could be a couple of weeks? They work in Frazier. There you got Dominic Smith who came into camp. They said in unbelievable shape. They told me this. When I was there the other day, they said Smith came into camp shockingly in tremendous shape and said he's winning a job. So he got him to deal with over there. You got Frazier's gonna play there. You got obviously lower you can play everywhere and play there. So there's going to be guys. He's got a challenge. But the optimum thing that could happen is his you're right handed Powell bat. This is what you're looking for. This is your right handed pal about if he can play first base, and you heard him talking about the little glove, which I saw him working with that day. And I like I said I had not seen them use that before with the first baseman, and they were using it, then I noticed it. And they said, yeah, we feel like it really helps him concentrate. Look the ball the. Glove. Get it in the pocket of that glove. Then you can work with the big love. So they had that glove and do a lot extensive work. I watched them work for like a half hour that day. So he was working on. And then the next on Saturday. You hit the home runs. The open up the spring schedule. You know, he's got power. He's got plenty of power. I see till Lewinsky hit a homerun today Hicks gino's sign the contract Yankees Verdy signed a couple of very interesting contracts, solid contracts, the Severino contract and now the Hicks contract. Very very good contracts for the Yankees, I think going forward, very, very solid, very smart contracts. As a matter of fact back after this. Imagining a better Bank starts with looking at the savings rates. Most banks offer and saying really Capital One is.

"The pharmacist baron there's nothing down there i mean we're all the draft picks we all the we were we were doing bad and we dressed in on where all these plays that we see nemo conforto that's those are the guys you know what they are at this point and that's terrible that's bad that's not acceptable i mean over eight years you look at their phillies you look at the braves i mean i'll be bringing up he's it we're bringing i like i don't know if you've ever be star i think it'll be a solid play love conforto he's killing us right now i i'm hoping he'll be good and bombs i mean resigned real where we have these days they young the is flawed and i mean it's just it just so hard watching it because you know there's nothing down there and it's a good point and that's a call frank but that's the other part of the season that has been so discouraging is not only was happening at the major league level but the the level of town really going into the season myers it's not as if things have gone wrong from opening day down in the minor league the fact that think it's probably gone better than they could have expected but down at unless you don't have any impact players that are coming up soon except for pete alonzo and maybe the kid mcneil who's down there aa and hitting for a lot of power but he's over twenty five years old he's not your typical prospect so they have some talent in the lower levels but you know those guys are going to be years away and they have overall when you look at you know baseball america ranks these minor league systems the mets are one of the worst and then that bottom tier so you have a major league team that's underachieving and or flawed and your minor leagues aren't going to provide an easy answer for you in in the next couple of seasons you don't have three guys you could point to and say hey these guys are gonna come up and you know they could change things around for this mets team they have won they can hope for in.
