We asked Dr Reid Toxin, managing director of trucks and health connections and former commissioner of Public Health for the District of Columbia, if more needs to be done to provide access to the vaccine in the black community, I think this is one of the flow misstep that needed to have been corrected and was not corrected quickly enough, But it's certainly being addressed with great urgency now and that is making the vaccine. Available within the confines of the black community, using community based and faith based organizations so that people in our community do not have to travel long distances where they can see other people who are their friends and neighbors being vaccinated without ill effect. They gave up to move up draft a quarterback who was a high profile quarterback that a lot of people saw in college and then sit them behind. Jimmy garoppolo who. They've already decided to be the future. And the reason for that is because after this year they'll be able to reset their quarterback salary impact with justin field on a second year of his deal and then they'll be able to pay the other players that are coming up for free agency and extensions that are mainly on their defense. Next news at 9 30 breaking news at once. I'm the one Laden on 17 W. O R, an NBC News radio station, Len Berman and Michael Riedel in the Morning. Good Morning, New York on 7 10 W. O R. Dr Arthur Campbell. He's the professor of bioethics at Mnu Langone Medical Center, founding director of division of Medical Ethics and Doc, I've been reading your tweets, and you're not happy with the CDC and the Food and Drug Administration. I'm not. I'm not. I think they're headed in the wrong direction. They could work our way out of this thing. You know, the CDC issued some guidelines that said, no need to test people who aren't showing symptoms of Cove. It No need to test them for covert, and that really makes absolutely no sense. Ah, we're gonna figure out who's been infected. There are a lot of people who ah So show symptoms, but they can infect you and they can infect others, and you want to be able to see if they're positive, even if they don't have symptoms and get him isolated. We seem to nuts make this connection that the more testing we do the better Sometimes, Trump says. Let's test list. I think that's wrong. I think we got a test Mohr Hey, I'm confused about something here. So our mayor de Blasio, Dr Kaplan is like I don't know about that indoor dining. It's you know, it's kind of for rich people anyway, and that's not really a priority for me. But if you don't open up these restaurants if you don't allow them to experiment to try indoor dining as the weather gets colder, these places they're going to shut down for good. And if you're in Queens, and you walk across the street in the Long Island will where they have indoor dining, and I don't understand the point of this. All right, laughing a little bit because I don't think it's your dining, a restaurant just for rich people for certainly Ridge restaurants out there, you know, one's their fancy and all that. But, you know, I think New York City relies heavily. A lot of people do on restaurants and so I think with the bay was trying to say is he's worried that New York City restaurants or smaller, they're crowded. You know, you're sort of in each other's face In some of these restaurants, you go and get a slice of pizza. The guy eating the place next to you is like what three inches, not 6 ft, usually right on top of one another, So he's freaking out about that. But I'm going to come back to what I just said. If we do more tests if we get regular testing, even if we could get The FDA to approve some of these home test kits, which aren't his accurate But I think frequent testing with less accurate results would still be useful. You know, if you test positive five times in a row, you know you shouldn't be out there at the restaurant. That's the key to getting us into these places. I think, Michael so You basically Ah, ah, are seeing we won't do the things necessary to get us back into the restaurants. I don't want to see the businesses closed. Do think people gonna be desperate to get into these places, But we got to take the steps and I'll come back to it again. If you get positive symptoms or know you've got to stay home. Then the rest of us could have more freedom. Dr Arthur Caplan, Professor of bioethics and why use Lango Medical Center is on with us every week. At this time, Doc let me share a concern of mine and then and wonder if you have the same concern. The president was very excited about a ah blood plasma treatment and then and then there's a fear that the president will rush through a vaccine before Election Day. Just Help his election chances. I mean, those are my concerns. Are you concerned about any of that? Yeah, I'm really worried about that. So this blood plasma was called convalescent Plasma. They had a press conference right before the Republican convention started, and the president announced it as a big breakthrough, and he had his FDA Ah, leader up there on endorsing that, saying, this is a big deal. Look, that treatment is Suggestive. It's possibly helpful, but we don't know if it's a big deal and the only information we've gotten on using plasma from people who were sick and survived, transfusing it to others who are sick to see if we can transmit immunity. Basically is that if you do it within three days of somebody getting very sick, they get a little teeny bit better. Maybe that's all we know. So the huge breakthrough It's not some kind of cure all for many people. So when you see that politicized and I do think that got political because of the timing of that announcement in holding The special press conference in tuning up the rhetoric, you get nervous, then you think what's gonna happen with the vaccine if we start getting anything that looks slightly positive? Come end of October. Is the president going to use that? Look, I promise to vaccine here It is, even if the information is incomplete, even if it doesn't work very well. To quarantine or not to quarantine. That seems to be the question. The CDC is kind of relaxing quarantine stuff. But our governor governor Cuomo here he's no slapping on Guam and other you know other places. If you come here, you gotta quarantine. What's your position on the quarantine? Still, like the quarantine they do if you come from a hot spot. So you'll even see I saw today. Oahu in the Out in Hawaii is re instituting their quarantine because they've had a kickback outbreak. Look, it's too soon to stop being careful about letting people come in from elsewhere. And the reason is there's still too much virus that where we are. We're doing pretty good. We're doing pretty good, but you don't want to reintroduce it by having visitors. Coming from other places where they're not doing great. And there still are a lot of hot spots both in the U. S. And elsewhere. So kind of e vigilant. I saw an experiment. Camp up in Maine managed to stay open. What they did was they tested everybody in the summer there open two months ahead. All the kids and counselors tested And major road was positive when they started and they kept testing and they were in that camp. All summer was won in Georgia. They didn't do that at visitors coming, people coming and going in a hot spot. Camps were closed within weeks. Dr Arthur Caplan with us from M Y you a doc? You're telling Natalie about this? Ah, this congressman, senator rather from Wisconsin with a law that the patient should have the right to try experimental treatments. I'm sure you have some thoughts on that. So that's Ron Johnson. He's Ah Republican from Wisconsin. He has been arguing, and Mike Pence was also very enthusiastic about this, putting through a lot of say, if something looks promising, and you wanted to try it. Um, you should have the right to do it without having to bother with the FDA. And it sounds. You know, you take your chances. You decide your own risk. But the problem is, there are so many fakes and Chae stirs out. They remember all this. What was it my pillow guy talking about this plant. He wanted people to try and different doctors have come forward with crazy cures, Drink bleach and all this sort of stuff. You need the FDA and there, I think to screen out that stuff because people will live you and trying to sell you stuff that is just bunk and bogus or could kill you..

"And not squeezing the bat too tight. You want to loosen the move. What are we going to do The, you know, do dance offs before the game. Thinking that you were well lets it. Listen. Let's also as I think is silly is it is the pepper grinder, Salt Shaker or whatever it was the club's down. I mean, There are certain things certain you know, things that maybe Frasier could help is more of like a bench coach slash Bench player. And maybe that does something who knows? I think it's a little silly. But if it actually works, if it actually changes the steeds of a clubhouse or changes the mojo of the clubhouse, then I guess you could say my thing about it is, I'm surprised the Mets needed that. If that's what Frasier for aunt surprised. That's what that I'm surprised. They need that. Well, I know you think that will be a sign of the algae inside because they gotta keep Fraser from the thunder. That was really upset that you could be the bench coat type thing that Maggie saying again, I'm all for we'd say the point of last year now, all the sudden, Todd Frazier's coming in here and I'm going to be the pseudo bench coach. I mean, what is the point of having the manager who's a great communicator? And Hector? Thanks a lot for the call. What the hell's the point of Louise Roe? Hostile. So here's kind of where I want it, right? I mean, I can't have an analogy. I can't look at a guy that's got three home runs. That basically can hit his way out of a paper bag that I think everybody in this area is tired of hearing about Toms River, New Jersey, and what he did is a little leaguer. I can't look at the very fact of and looking at Todd Frazier here and all the sons saying while bringing him aboard to kind of loosen up the mood a little bit. I mean, what are we going back to majorly? Where's Doc Brown? I mean, you know what now over Osama. I'm putting that on the shoulders here of Todd Frazier because Pete Alonso smiled at a zoom call when he learned that Todd Frazier was coming here. I understand. Tougher. He's a good guy. I'm sure you would smile. I mean, he's the complete antithesis of what you want assess princes as a teammate. So I would imagine that Todd Frazier at that he would put a smile on his face. But now also, it's going to get these guys loosen up and all of sudden they're going to hit with runners in scoring position. That's a little much. Well, here's maybe turn. Pete Alonso sees around him to 13. That's a little much. I can't solve that one. That's what here. But how about this is an analogy. That may not be perfect. But here it is. Brett Farve always wanted Doug Peterson is his backup, right? And it was because he liked being around Doug Peterson. No one ever thought that Doug Peterson was going to take farms job or anything like that. It was just far of like that guy is his backup, right? Peyton Manning was a Jim Sorgi. They're just guys who with you need to help the star and if the star has a good report With so and so that maybe it's not the worst thing to bring in someone. If Alonzo was really close with Frasier, if they talk baseball in a way that, you know, maybe you really clicked with Alonzo. I have no idea, but that's sort of what I'm thinking. It's maybe a guy who is a mate that the star loved. And so you're willing to make this concession to bring him back and say, Hey, maybe this makes our star comfortable. We're willing to try anything cause the launch has had a really bad season. Well, he's had a really bad year. So now Todd Frazier's brought here to be Pete Alonzo's caddy. No, I'm not saying that. I mean, that's what you mean. Georgie stunk. No, I go. Peterson wasn't but there were non threats to the court. I understand. They're just like get it made the Star player feel good, even though there was probably a better backup out there. What? But it did match the stomach. I s Oh, this is so In essence, they bring a guy in with the hope that Pete Alonzo's all of a sudden going to start to hit like 2019. B is Todd phrase you can tell a good joke. I don't think that it's possible. I don't know if Ableto find that paper towels warm before the shower, but he's got you know 20. What is it? 27 games left or what have you got? Hot 25. Thank you. They've got time. For Pete to at least try to show a little of what he wass and maybe they're out of ideas and think that this one couldn't hurt. I just don't want it. I just don't want Todd Frazier taking any meaningful of bats away from anybody who's actually going to, you know, be a part of the future of the city. I want to see those guys continue to get to get playing time and those guys consider toe workout their struggles. But Frazier to me is a clubhouse guy. I just don't know how far that's going to go. And as I said, I'm kind of shocked that the Mets actually needed someone in their clubhouse, considering what a good group we think this is what one I've heard any. I haven't heard anything to the other to the otherwise that that it's not a good group. I can't put that for me. I can't put that on on Frasier. I really can't Now all the sudden what are we going to say? Now is If OK, you say If you make the argument you bring in Todd Frazier to help turn Pete Alonso around. What about people? And so doesn't well then it didn't work. But I don't think you're putting the pressure on Frasier. Like you have to fix this guy know how to say that? No, no. Then do you look at people and so differently? No, because Peter's gonna have every opportunity next year to tryto, but because then they would just be a one year wonder. I mean, he's been terrible this year. No, but I mean, I'm really in Florida was really good in him out here that had a regression, and now you work through it, and you adjust to the major league portal. Never had a year that Pete Alonzo had Pete Alonso grab Major League baseball by the year. I mean, nobody was in all sorry home runs. He was an All star within the home run Derby. The leadership on and off the field. But if I'm going to go on the idea, and I'm going to, and I don't I don't really necessarily believe this. But if I'm bringing Todd Frazier to try and light a fire under Pete, Alonzo or get himto loosen up or be more productive offensively, then his organization what if it doesn't work? And Pete Alonso continue say to 10. But you say we'll see you next year where we and work on this. This this this is the offerings coming back to caddy. No, Of course not. This is a This is a happening around. I think he does like having give around. I don't know why you that razor here and it's not gonna help you win games in a meaningful way. He's not. I've no idea. I have no idea why they're they're grasping at straws here. I mean, it didn't cost you anything. I mean, he's a cheap option. He's not playing particularly well. You do have familiarity with the player. Maybe it's going to be a clubhouse Presidents who that'll knows, But I mean, I can't look at it. Pete Alonzo's got if you are, If you are an all time great player and you're on that kind of career track, and I understand we had one year. Whoever the hell's around you doesn't matter. You hit Yeah, but obviously struggled this year, And so I mean, you just trajectory is not going to be linear straight up. It's gonna be set back a clearly having a setback now, but he's gonna have to try to work through it. Not every superstar does that strange. Bright for was not great because of Doug Peterson. Peyton Manning was not great because of gym shorts. That's not what I'm saying. But nonetheless, they could have me or Monica ll be in the back of quarterback but great, but they felt Comfortable with those guys and the organization said That's good enough for us Even.

I wonder if he regretted that afterwards considering that he had two more empty it back without the mustache one of them being a strike out so he did not have the golden sombrero but he did have the try backed up. I mean call me crazy but I don't think the mustache has anything to do with it but that's just me you know it's just me I'm boring I don't have superstitions but if you have one for Friday the thirteenth or something really crazy you've done by all means let's hear it I it's a good thing the Mets did not need under all home run derby to laws or anything else for being alive though he he does still lead the majors of forty seven Dinger's before they got a career day for over one look are as young ready here it comes. looking back..

"For his team is Pete Alonso tonight who one home run derby over Vlad Guerrero junior look Vlad was probably pretty tired heading into that finally after what he had to do with John Peterson but mafia we would talk about your on that fan I think Alonzo going forward as a piece for the match to go use and the number one media market to market his personality his skill set in to go out and get all the free agents interested with all the disastrous match contracts as of late all the issues with managers GM's all the background noise it's been negative how positive is this tonight for your team the match well not just because of a team because of the fence they just put up tickets eighty percent off the rest of the season right now deal because he won the war the home dirty there so so the fans are loving Adam is a great guy for them but you said he's good with the media as a good sound bite you know you talk you know something's gotta brown lately over the years they thrown out there have been the best of the media he's a guy in the in the mold of David right from at this point that they hope at least and that you know homegrown guy they brought to the minors comes up just crushing the ball and you know can be the face of the franchise but we see them come through a bunch of times last couple years as far as you're always pictures that they've had whether be drawn Harvey Wheeler you know Thor these guys you know a bunch of them I've kind of falling off the last couple years with the bill this team around so they love him right now what he's doing is going to be can you do it can you sustain it we are as far as a master okay see healthy yeah that is a K. grade point he's gotta stay healthy he's got to be the face of the franchise has got to be around long term they got to be able to retain him all of that because the match have not been able to do that with the Yankees loaded roster in the Bronx this is someone that just has to excel and continue to get better eight five five two one two four two two seven is the number Cameron in Texas thanks for waiting on the bench this became a protected us can't believe I got on but I just was listening to you right before like twenty minutes ago when you're talking about what can and we do to get millennials interested in the MLB and talking about the all star game we know what we were talking about give us your opinion you don't have to recap what we talked about what do you think all right well what I think is that baseball is very relevant I'm twenty one and I just think that the season is just too long so it just makes it just irrelevant but it well well I'm not I want to hear you could you I'm not gonna interrupt after this if we shorten the season it's still going to be a relevant for you if we shorten the season by twenty games what do you even care about that you're not into it to begin with so you want us to break up the history books break up the calendar break up the schedule to make it shorter and why what what is shortening the schedule have anything to do to you personally well look at so called football has what twelve or fourteen games in a season and football has sixteen and MBA at eighty two but a hundred and sixty two games in a season I mean that's just ridiculous so again if we take it to you don't wanna take it to fifty you can't do you can have the you gotta keep it up in a number so let's say we take it to one fifty two or one forty eight how is that going to get you to a ball park to sit and watch a be all into the game because each game matters more like a dozen college football you know one one team will it when your team loses in college football one game you're basically out you lose to your for sure out you know there's just so many games that you can lose and it just makes a we're still gonna play we're still going to play thanks for the call that my mind is about to explode my head is about the pop that I just took that call now I'm not gonna rip the kid is I asked how do you get a millennials involved he wants to shorten the season okay how you can't short and much more he you know you go from one sixty two to one fifty two okay you go to one thirty eight then you should do the entire record books and everything that's happened before with fifty home runs hundred thirty RBI's you know winning twenty games as a pitcher you throw it all out so that kid who's twenty one might be interested pretty sure to call any can't tell us why be interested because college football only have twelve games what is college football the only the only played in twelve games in college football because every place a car accident its twenty year old kids running into each other at full force and it's once a week she could spread that out over a whole season baseball you got to play if you can if you could ask the Cincinnati Reds to travel to Atlanta the place series you can have a two game series you gonna play three or four games I mean again I don't know what to tell you because I think it's a really that call that young kid that good young kid was kind enough to call me really believes that schedule too many games in the length of the game is keeping him out of baseball wow just can't go just can't go on April just can't go in October and just sit there and go Hey I got to put on a jacket tonight it's cold maybe a para glides Hey I'm gonna go tonight it's gonna be really hot yeah bring some extra water I gonna be hydrated we all just have to worry about everything what we're so worried that's something so what happened if you can't go to the game because you're bored don't go if you can't go to the game because you have a prior engagement fine don't go but when you do end up going in park and walk in in can you put your watch and phone away and stop saying one of my going home if we can get rid of all those fans I think the sport would be much better how about we take the stadiums from fifty thousand forty eight thousand a moving down to twenty eight thousand thirty thousand take less fans get the fans or interest to show up and try to find out that they have to raise the price because they be Losin seats a Davis in Annapolis Maryland hello Dave thanks for waiting JTA rapid fire brother I remember back in the late eighties bunch my buddies when we're working the Discovery Channel we made it a point for the all star game with pizza and beer and work at night grand in a conference room watching the game on TV favorite moment in person with a Camden yards when I got the all star game after the stadium opened up it was the MVP and Mike Masina the hometown boy took it upon himself to get up in the ninth inning and get warm in the bullpen and rival manager cito Gaston who manager mereka league refused to put him in the game but the scene I got up the fans start chanting his name and gas and had no choice to put a man and finally what we can do to get baseball in the minds of young kids for me it's simple if you call the strike zone the way it's supposed to be called rather than it being a postage stamp like it is now that bats wouldn't go to three into like they do all the time because it had it would have to go out there and swing the bat and kids wouldn't have to sit there watch a ten minute bad it would be a hitters game and I think that come back yeah but it strikes going to be a strike thanks for the call this a plate that the strike zone again you can expand it you can expand by that much players are not a not could agree to that and they're gonna strike out more and take more money out of their pockets but speeding up the game I'm all for speeding up the game is something now that when I go with my sons on there I'm not a good example because I don't have baseball in Vegas on the triple a so I go typically to about two or three Yankee games a year one in Anaheim if it's generally play Dodgers San Diego Seattle or Oakland usually Oakland when I go I'm so excited to see my team I don't wanna leave I'm not look at my watch I don't want the games that up but most do you do tomorrow night nine eastern six Pacific make way for some WNBA action when the Minnesota lynx that'll the Chicago style on CBS sports network the twenty four hour home of CBS sports we continue with John in Ontario thanks for waiting John go ahead you're on the bench like all just number one as far as the millennials a baseball field nowadays I mean they are the it's not available unless you don't have to wait right it also I'm not basically not solid as far as baseball in general are barred complication in all sports now I blame lack of directly to social media each other like in their Instagram there like in their Facebook post I mean not just taken a the competitive disdain for your opponent white out of every sport right out of every sport and I'd like your opinion our audience for your your answer to that why any baseball as the the the African American athlete turned away from baseball thank god directly to football and and basketball well again we've talked about that over the years thanks for the call the inner city initiatives the fact that some African American kids would just love to play a game with more physicality and ones that they relate to better in the NBA the NBA is a huge sport now in the NFL scaring me how do you compete against the NFL how do you beat the NFL pre check the call how do you beat it you don't you're just losing market share every year but Major League Baseball is very concerned about that and they're trying to have more inner city awareness and to get more minorities involved with the sport and they're doing everything possible from building baseball fields to donating money to building you know youth groups that are tied to baseball this a lot happened in there that baseball has missed the missed the ball on that one they're aware of that I've interviewed Dave Winfield the hall of Famer over the years on that topic and he's been front and center on trying to get more African Americans to play the game Reggie Jackson others all the of the other icons who promote the sport and do a good job and that is a cause for concern in the fact that baseball diamonds are driving up a little social experiment life I live in Vegas everything's kind of new here so where I live.
