Zelenskyy wants Putin trial, Russia accuses US on drones
"Russia is accusing the U.S. of being involved in a purported drone attack yesterday on the Kremlin. Moscow alleges it was a bid to assassinate Vladimir Putin, whose spokesman says, decisions on terror attacks are not made in Kyiv, but rather in Washington. Dmitri peskov says Ukraine then does what it's told to do. He offered no evidence of U.S. involvement, and at The White House. We're still trying to gather information about what happened and we just don't have conclusive evidence one way or the other. Though National Security Council spokesman John Kirby says one thing is for certain. The United States was not involved in this incident in any way contrary to mister peskov's lies. US, Ukraine say many war secrets safe from intel leaks
"Ukraine's leaders are downplaying the impact the leak of U.S. intelligence documents could have on their military operations. I'm Ben Thomas with the closer look. Key reason, Ukraine has long held back sharing its most sensitive operational information, doubting Washington's ability to keep their secrets safe. Ukrainian and U.S. officials maintain only Ukrainians have the details of certain battle plans and other operational information. Ukraine's deputy defense minister saying only a very narrow circle of people know. So the leak, including some military assessments of Ukraine's battlefield strengths and weaknesses against Russia, likely has not been enough, at least so far, to change the course of the war. Still, Washington sees the leaks as grave and more damaging material could still surface. Meanwhile, Russia is making clear its avidly studying at all, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry peskov, saying of the leaks, quite interesting. Ben Thomas, Washington

Russia downplays West's move on tanks, strikes Ukraine again
"While many have praised the decision from western powers to send tanks to Ukraine, Russia has shrugged it off, and launched a new barrage of attacks on the country, the Kremlin has previously warned that such tank deliveries would be a dangerous escalation of the conflict in Ukraine. It also strongly denounced the significant move by Germany and the United States to send the heavy weaponry to its enemy, but it insists the new armor won't stop Russia from achieving its goals in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman to meet the peskov, said the potential of the tanks in the fight against Russia were clearly exaggerated and that they will burn just like any others. "For more this morning we turn to WTO national security correspondent JJ green This is not clear about what happened with that fuel depot being blown up Russia has been claiming Ukraine did it and it's not clear if Ukraine did it or not As a result after these peace talks ended Russia is saying it will strengthen its western borders so that it does not occur to anyone to attack it That from the presidential spokesman Dmitri peskov He said it in an interview on Belarusian television Ukraine says Russia is shifting its troops to the country's east for an intensified assault on the mostly Russian speaking Don bass region in the country's east which includes mariupol And so in the coming days a flare up in fighting is expected Ukraine says however it's prepared for it but hoping that they can continue the dialog that will lead to peace Is that dialog likely if in fact they did attack that depot JJ I'm pretty sure the dialog will continue whether there are any results We don't know I will say this though one of the problems with this whole situation for the entire world is that Ukraine and Russia are the breadbasket for a lot of people so to speak Ukraine's ability to fulfill that role has been severely compromised in the invasion A lot of infrastructure has been destroyed They're shipping and port capabilities have been heavily damaged And Russia has been ostracized by the international community very few are willing to have anything to do with Russia or its goods and services So it's going to severely impact the ability of many countries to feed their own populations in Russia They've.

"And you know who believes the president of the United States has to be careful with his words, Joe Biden, because he campaigned on that very issue regularly throughout 2019 and 2020 when he was running for president. You all know the words of a president matters. They can move markets, they can send our brave women and men to war, they can bring peace, they can calm a nation in turmoil. Biden also gave the Russians an instant opportunity here, of course, for propaganda, because now they can simply say, hey, all this is about is that the United States wants to displace Vladimir Putin. In fact, the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry peskov responded to Biden's comment saying this is not up to Biden. This is up to the Russian people. And of course he handed his political opponents here at home, an easy opportunity to take a whack at him. Here was Republican Jim risch, senator from Idaho on CNN yesterday. This administration has done everything they can to stop escalating. There's not a whole lot more you can do to escalate than to call for regime change and whoever wrote it did a good job, hit the hit the right notes and then to have that at the end of the sour note at the end was unfortunate to say the least. And the backdrop in which all of this is happening is that it's probably the worst time for the president to have created his own headache like this. According to a brand new NBC News poll just out yesterday, 70% of Americans in that poll said they had just some were very little confidence in Joe Biden's ability to deal with Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The poll was conducted before last week's trip that Biden took to Europe 8 in ten Americans in the polar worried that the war is going to increase gas prices and possibly involve nuclear weapons. And the poll found Biden at his overall lowest approval rating in the history of his presidency in that poll, standing at 40% approval. So this is not the time where Joe Biden can be making mistakes like this that both have potential repercussions around the world where clearly our allies are concerned, and then of course there's just the need for the president to be as disciplined as possible, which his political opponents will be making hay of here, all at precisely a moment that Joe Biden needs to be playing error free ball. That's it for today's political briefing..
