Lawyers: Autopsy Suggests Inmate Suffered During Execution

"Appeals by lawyers who hope to stop a pair of federal executions next week, Attorneys for Keith Nelson claimed that an autopsy on an inmate executed in federal prison last month Showed signs that Wesley perky, probably felt like he was drowning as the execution drug rendered him unable to move or speak and was therefore unconstitutionally cruel. Nelson is set for a lethal injection next Friday for the 1999 rape and murder of a 10 year old Kansas girl. And the U. S. Supreme Court will consider Ripley from Lensman Mitchell to stop his execution Wednesday. He claims the jurors who convicted him were biased against native Americans. Jack Callahan, Fox News

In Kansas. He'd been on federal death row for 17 years and had argued he shouldn't be executed via lethal injection because he was suffering from dementia. In his final statement, however, he was of sound enough mind to remember his victim's name apologizing to the family, saying he deeply regrets the pain and suffering he had caused them. Before going on to call his execution. A sanitized murder. The long family reacted. He's not very genuine. He's He's a very manipulative individual

Philadelphia Weather: Strong Winds, Heavy Downpours & Hail Wreak Havoc On Region

"Under a flash flood emergency and said over live to NBC 11th alert meteorologist Glenn Hurricane Schwartz for the update, Glenn Yeah, we get these things very rarely, And so it's especially important to pay attention to these things People drown. In weather like this. It don't want this to happen to anybody, you know, so spread the word for those may be stuck in traffic, who have the temptation to try to drive through flooded roadways have already had to have several Water rescues, and that's why the flash flood emergency has been issued. Now. The heaviest rain right now extends along route Tuo to near King of Pressure. And then Up toward perky Yeomin and Phoenixville. Now I've been saying this for the last hour, so about the same area, so it's not moved. Well for 22 is especially bad and that's a bad road to begin with, with traffic, but some of the heaviest rain we've got hail. We've got lightning in that area, and once again it is not moving. So please do not try to drive through these flooded roads. Now in other parts of the area. We're seeing some improvement Conshohocken down to Gladwin. We've just got late rain now. German town when Mohr white marsh pay places that were just getting pounded an hour ago. Are seeing much, much lighter rain. We have one core of heavy rain, though in lower Marion That has broken off from the area. Norbert's out to Ballack, Inwood. That is a new area that has just developed. So what happens here is as these things move they create owe their own wind patterns, which then creates more Additional thunderstorms in different areas. And so it's not like a line of storms that comes down. You get a downpour this half hour rain and then it's gone. This is a very chaotic kind of system where from one hour to the next, it's hard to tell where the heaviest rains going to bay, but we're seeing the general trend. Of weakening From the Philadelphia area and poised to the north. We still have very heavy rain and Camden down toward I 95 near Chester and farther south in New Jersey, but we're not seeing anywhere near the amount of lightning That we were seeing even an hour ago except in this king of Prussia to Phoenixville area right around for 22. Hurricane typically with thes summer storms. The damage comes from From fierce winds from downpours that are pretty quick. This is not what you're seeing with this storm system, right? Right. This is not just a thunderstorm that is stationary. Let's say what is happening is that the one thunderstorm is in effect, creating another thunderstorm by the wind that comes down out of that storm. It moves out from the storm and collides with another area of wind, which then creates that next thunderstorm. So one of the things that we call this is back building so it might seem like the storm has passed you And then the next thing you know, it's on top. If you get it hasn't moved backward. A new storm has developed behind the original storm, and this is what's been happening for the last couple of hours because you don't have a real strong steering current So push these storms in one direction, so that's kind of the chaos that's been going on in the atmosphere here. But it developed so rapidly that gives you an idea of the amount of energy that we're dealing with. To go from. Nothing to severe thunderstorms in less than 1/2 hour is pretty remarkable.

Can Animals Predict Natural Disasters?

"Sager. Have you heard about help? Het sometimes go missing just before an earthquake hits or how about in two thousand and four when a soon Nami hit Southeast Asia and killed more than two hundred thousand people but almost no wild animals. And did you know that dogs? Elephants antelopes bats. And even flamingos fled the scene before the wave. Hit even flamingos. Many people assume it's because animals are more attuned to their environment than we are others like the United States Geological Survey Gency say there's no connection between animal behavior and natural disasters. But if there were wouldn't it weren't a closer look think of the impact. It would have if we knew. Animals could predict dangerous natural events now the majority of researchers looking into this art claiming animals have a sixth sense or anything supernatural going on what they do think is that animals make greater use of their senses than we do using these. They react to environmental signals. That we stupid humans. Just don't notice of course different species have varying sensitivity to these fluctuations and most evidence is anecdotal but if animals are aware of natural disasters. Here's how they know. When troubles a-coming most likely animals can hear sounds that we can't especially the infrasonic low pitched vibrations made by earthquakes. Storms volcanoes avalanches and oceans in some studies. Researchers found that these sounds usually lower than twenty hertz make humans uneasy and even nauseous so with their greater spectrum of hearing. It makes sense that animals would perceive these before us as unsettling. If you heard a deep rumbling sound coming at you from a wide angle what would you do to hang out and make sandwiches or would you run for your life? One study that supports infrasonic. Hearing theory happened when Stanley Coren was studying whether dogs suffered from seasonal affective disorder. One day many of his one hundred ninety three tests. Dogs suddenly flipped out. Coren could not figure what was going on until a day later when he noticed that an earthquake struck nearby at a six point eight on the Richter scale after reviewing the results corn found that fourteen of the animals had hearing impairments and these were the dogs that didn't become anxious before the earthquakes looking further. He noticed that dogs with floppy ears were less likely to be agitated than those with perky open ears so it looks like the strength of their sense of hearing was what a tuned the dogs to the earthquakes low tones. Another theory is that through. Their sense of touch. Animals can feel vibrations through the ground or sense shifts. In air or water pressure hurricanes are known to decrease such

Doctors Encourage More Women To Regularly Perform Breast Self-Exams To See If They Need Implants

"It's a simple procedure. You can do yourself. It only takes a few minutes each month than it could change your life. That's why doctors today are encouraging more women to regularly perform breast self exams to see if they need implants. Opr Health correspondent Jenner. Resnick joins us now with the story. Hello Jenna Hi Leslie. Tell us a little about these guidelines. What signed should a woman be looking for when performing a breast exam? What's really important is that you're looking to see that. Both breasts are normal. That there aren't any problems. They should be large and perky no sags no droops Dr. Christopher kinds of the American society of Plastic Surgeons explains more a breast self exam. The procedure a woman can perform quickly and easily at home simply. Use Your fingers to feel all around each individual breasts while asking herself. Could this be better. You can even use your own sharpy to mark yourself up valuable information. It really is needing a job. As an astonishingly common affliction. According to statistics published in Cosmopolitan one in eight women will need breast implants in her life. And how often do women need to be doing these exams once a month at least Leslie? Dr Kinds also recommends performing the exam in front of the Bathroom Mirror because even if your breasts seemed fine to the touch you might change your mind once. You take a look if you discover any areas. That aren't as good as they could be. Call your cosmetic surgeon and schedule an appointment for an augmentation immediately. Coaching these things earliest crucial. Yes a lot of women think that they don't need to be checking their breasts to see if they need implants until their forties but all adult women should be regularly. Doing this teen girls too should get into the habit of monitoring their bodies to see if they need to be changed. Mary Tisdale is just one woman who began observing her breasts regularly and she's grateful she did. I had the opportunity to speak with her and her husband. Eric take a listen. I still remember how shocked I was. Hand scared because you never think it's going to happen to you. We flew out to California to see a top specialist and get it taken care of. I got a lift implants. I didn't want to spend the money at first. I was worried. Insurance wouldn't cover it but I insisted she get the best and biggest implants out there. We spent the Kid's College Fund and nearly went broke but we didn't want them to grow up not knowing a mother's incredible rack. Oh honey I love you love you too. That's powerful stuff. What else should women? No women should remember that. It's even more important to stay vigilant if they have a history of implants in their family if your mother or grandmother had faked heads. Chances are you will to and don't forget that problem areas can spread get implants now. And maybe you'll save yourself from a Brazilian butt lift left later. Thanks Jenna. Has You know this issue is very personal to me. I still remember when my wife found out she needed implants but we were too late

Treatment and Recovery from Chemsex Addiction

"Welcome to the Mind podcast might guess. Today is David Fawcett and he is going to talk about Kim Sex addiction and what that means and what. That's all about David. Do you WANNA introduce this yourself until it's a little bit about you. Yes thanks so much. A Name is David Fawcett. I'm a licensed clinical social worker and sexologist sex therapist and I worked in the his field for about thirty years the last twenty years or so. That was working with a lot of men who sexually vanity use methamphetamine and other drugs and high risk sex and that developed a solo interest of mine in what is now called chem sex but we can talk more about what that means. But that's been my work for the last twenty years or so. How did you start? Start to discover this as an issue. And how did this kind of come about for you. And why is this a passion for you. Yeah thanks. I'm in recovery myself although not from Methamphetamine ben for a long time and I had added a real passion in working with a lot of gay men who were experiencing what a shame from lie stigma and corker. HIV which goes with lot of Irish sex and drug use and and that was my clientele basically for twenty years. The sex there is people were coming to me for sexual problems and with little history. We discovered that the sex from were caused by methamphetamine. A lot of the other drug use so oftentimes rather than come seeking help for the drugs. They came from the sex problems but that led right into this fusion that I was discovering between sexual behavior drug use and the devastation it caused for these individuals. Okay so let's talk a little bit about what that looks like when we say chem mm sacks and fusion and what does that mean right so what I really discovered is that we have addiction to substances. We have addiction to behaviors like like sex and each of those treated slightly differently. But really this is the third thing in my opinion where people simultaneously using drugs. And almost always an amphetamine is in the mix there and combining with sex is actually a fusion or abandoning of those that occurs in the brain neurologically those pathways become connected and so that behavior. Stage really is one set of behaviors and so if we take the traditional approach of getting somebody clean from their drug problems and hope the sex from take care of themselves. They don't because the two are so fused if someone gets cleaned oftentimes our sexual life goes with it. And that's the problem. People were coming before they were in a year clean. Eighteen months clean had virtually no sexual desire because that had been so fused with their drug use when they give up the drugs. They're excellent with right and so the whole thing so tell me a little bit when you say fused. Can you give me an example of how that might look like in a person who's struggling with this what that would look like sure and so this happens because of dope managed neuro transmitters. That's essentially that really acts. We teach our dog had into a trick if the dog sits and I have a treat it's dopamine that bonds those two things together and so if someone is acting out sexually using drugs those two things get bonded the way it looks. Is that if I'm in that state where they become paired or fused. If I see a sexy person on the street I may get a tremendous craving to get high or if I see see A SYRINGE IF I've been injection drug user I may get a sexual urge at the same time the two go hand in here and so one really triggers the other and that is missile bundle of Hughes in triggers. That really make a complicated for someone and then as I said in recovery because if we don't treat that really from sex therapy perspective people's sex lives have been so kind of re set by that super stimulation of sex and drugs. That nothing normal is appealing anymore. It's a very similar. The process. We see when sexton point addiction where the super stimulation occurs. In the brain to reboot in recovery right. How does this get introduced into a person's NHS life I mean? They're having sex than they used drugs together. And then that becomes a combo. or where do we see this and I guess I'm asking. How does it manifest itself? How does is a gro or how does it become this fused together right? I think certainly among many sexiest man is a sole confusion of the APPS. You know they a hook up APPs combined with the right use and you can go in those and discover basically with Coding Party in play people that are looking not only connect with drugs but that sex as well and so oftentimes this kind of introduce organically like that and it's not a problem just among gay men as best sexual world we think of you know had in treatment we've had heterosexual the guys who use cocaine and get see prostitutes. You don't get that same Russia. The whole endeavour so people discover quite quickly. The other way I've seen it introduced is through tolerance which we see addiction in general but where people kind of what was doing it for them. Yesterday doesn't quite as exciting anymore. up the ante a little bit Escalate of were highest sex. Or maybe more taboo things just to get stimulation go right so I guess vanilla sex gets boring or something in the add this element to it. And then that creates a heightened sense of pleasure intensity they start chasing that that that Combo that's exactly right and that becomes kind of new baseline and anything less than that is not only boring or not interesting. But almost even depressant depressant and so people's lives what used to give them pleasure including their their human partners. Don't do that anymore even the food. There's a state we call Anhedonia where the people are just. Everything's kind of great again experience pleasure and so that's quite common. So what happens in the brain as you start to fuse these things together. What's going going on? 'cause you're talking about Antonia and can you defy I for any listeners. Who Don't know what that is? What is an Danica? And then let's talk about how the brain right brings brings us all together. So Antonio is the state where people just can't experienced any pleasure. Life is kind of a gray. Everything's depressing or sad and I'm just happy or Perky. Oh bright and people that suggested emotional state. That's often do in this where we see. This addictions is the brain actually shedding receptors without getting into the weeds too much dopamine the neurotransmitter that makes us feel good that happens with cocaine with methamphetamine another stimulants it releases a lot of dopamine mean sex orgasm Jesus dopamine and makes us feel good. What happens with addiction particularly with Kim Sex? In a very profound way that this level of volume volume literal volume stimulation coming at the brain and so it actually sheds doping receptors an effort to control the amount of volume. It's getting stimulation and so that controls and to some extent but if we take away the stimulation if somebody gets clean and sober or stops acting out sexually that simulations drop to such a level that does even register and that's when that depressive state kicks

That bought the t shirt so today. We're were going under the sheets for a taste of love. David Sanderson Lee. Brady came up with the idea. In nineteen seventy five and named the product. Candy Andy Pants. I don't even want to know what their inspiration was. But if it was to make money it worked the product was manufactured in Chicago and in nineteen eighteen. Eighty nine people magazine named them as being one of the four hundred thirty four names and events that define pop culture clearly. It's one of the things that helped make America America. Great the invention inspired copycats and a host of other products such as edible handcuffs Broz. Anything else that helps you get your King Khan and speaking the of Kink you can go to Walmart website and order a twelve pack of heart-shaped edible pacify fires. Just like the one used to quiet a noisy infant. You can even get free delivery to the store while they're you could pick up a box of Pampers act whatever fantasy you want. I'm not here to judge. So what are these things. Things made of Gelatin. Mostly if you've ever had a fruit roll up then you have a good idea of the texture. These don't taste nearly as good with flavors like Cherry and passion improve. That should tell you a lot. They are sticky and can leave some serious Danes on those silk sheets you bought for the occasion. Plus there's no way to use the leftovers. Edibles aren't particularly difficult to make factors youtube video on how to do it and I'll put a link to it in the show notes if savory is how you roll than there there's lingerie made of meat jerky mostly but they can shoot have been invited to the party. They're sold under the names. Perky Jerky or climax Jerky if you try hi. This is probably a good idea to lock rover in another room. If you wish to make your own meat. Delegates there are instructions on Youtube on how to do that. I'll also put a link to that on the show notes. They could be great in the beat. Three Buffet Switching back to the candy. "Say, so we get home last night and suddenly a complete lose my wife's attention. And I said, what's going on? She said big little lies. Yes, indeed. Big little lies big deal and Meryl Streep Senate this season. And she's back, even in the first episode, she's has a pretty big presence in the show because he's already back in this town her, her son was killed in the in the first season. He was sort of the villain of the piece in the first season. So she's trying to figure out what exactly happened to her son. She's not believing the fact that he was a bad guy that he was abusive husband and a rapist and all that came to pass in the. I season. So she's there. Others allies and secrets begin to explode in these women's lives. It's all about these mothers living in Monterey, California, and Meryl Streep's there. But when you see her sort of like get under the skin, if someone like the Reese, Witherspoon character, who's this really obnoxiously perky woman, and, and so and murals through, just takes her down a couple of pegs, and that's just marvelous acting. It's great stuff. I think that's going to be a big hit for HP all several. Oh, was that a surprise hit Matt? Or do you think they expected the, the results have gotten out of this show? I think what happened with that in the first season which won a bunch of Emmy's, two years ago is that when they cast the way they cast it with Nicole Kidman and Reese, Witherspoon, and Laura Dern. And these are really a list actors even before Meryl Streep came into it, that this was going to be it was based on a bestselling book to a real great page Turner that, you know, it looked at it read like it was gonna make a great TV show. So even if people hadn't heard of big little lies when they cast it that way, it was clearly one of the prestige HBO projects of that year. And also of this year, especially when they raise the game. I putting Meryl Streep in it. So. Yeah, it's gonna get a lot of attention. And it kind of deserves it. Because it's it's what you want TV for you. Really, can't wait to find out what

"For celebrate. February tenth the red carpet starts at four o'clock. Some might argue the most fun parts somebody some night. I think it's be most fun watching her accept a Grammy. That's gonna be alright. I got thinking about brandy because Belinda is here. Linda, Kelly and Venise Cunningham hammer here, they are new to the scene of our show for sure, but I guess you're going to tell us what it is that you do I see three bottles of syrup sitting in front of me, including some beautiful perky cocktails. Yes. So we are. We are sisters and Venise is a farmer. I'm a mobile bar owner in Seattle. And so we started this farm debare concepts together for our events cocktails with happy camper cocktails and our reception that we got in the Seattle area from thousands of people that have come to our events just so positive that we decided okay after answering the question so many times, how do I make this at home? We're gonna need to bottle there. So people can actually make this at home because what kept happening is I would start to explain. And then there is the kind of glaze over I could tell they're never going to try. So we did it for them. Nice. And. Venise? Was just shocking to you that somebody wants to take your farm product and do this to a compared to say put in a in a soup or something like that? No. Because it was my idea. Oh, really? So Villanova's getting actually at her first event, which was super local to ask for the farmers and Buckley much as we say, it's below the snow and above the fog. So we're about the Sumner valley below Marigny are really were right on the file to marry near. And she had her first local and everyone was raving over there. So I thought let's bottle those and sell those nice. It took a little bit of convincing any take on another project because she had just launched happy camper cocktail company, but we did. And my fire was originally. So I'm first farmer. We've only been on it for farm for five years. And we started way heirloom. Garlic say we had built their garlic and goats festival around a garlic field and then wanted to try something different. And so I thought let's grow some herbs. At the same time. I was having a really big sourcing problems with edible flowers because with my company, I wanted it to be the best cocktail you could have at an event possible. Because a lot of times at events what you get is a spirit and soda because you're on location. It's hard to make a good cocktail. So we wanted ours to be a little fancier, and we were doing a lot of weddings. And so we wanted to use flowers as garnishes and on rims, and while many farmers grow those they don't really advertise them or sell them. They're growing them for pollinators. And so I asked Venise the first thing I asked her to grow can you grow some flowers? Yes. So I grew her bunch of edible flowers and play with a bunch of different wines. What worked in the drinks? What didn't work in the drinks with stored? What could be transported and a lot of them are so delicate it's really difficult to get them from point eight point. And then it kind of expanded into what we also do herbs and our garnishes, and then it expanded into these fun. Okay. So let's get into the syrups. Sure. So you guys have a cocktail that we call the Genevieve one of my friends will be very happy that I just said that on hair because it's named after her, and it's a counter Jen from batch two oh six distilling down in interbay. You've got lemon juice and then our rhubarb Manila simple syrup. So the audience has a vanilla soda, and we did that one because Sumner. So just down the hill from her farm is actually the rhubarb pie capital of the world. And a lot of people don't realize that there's a hundred and seventy five acres of rhubarb grown in Washington state. And it's actually one of the biggest states everybody production. So. The. One of they're really big ones houses and. Yes, we grew this one kind of as an owner to our area. We have a lot of people who are really excited to have this in a cocktail because it's not a typical syrup flavor. And with all of our Serbs. That's really what we wanted to do with the simple syrup business. You see a lot of the same flavor is being made over and over again, and there's differences in qualities of those for sure, but we wanted to do flavors. We hadn't seen before. And we wanted to do flavors that really reflected in the northwest and our area in our home. So we have a Huckleberry spruce tip as well. That one is really special to us because we've been foraging Huckleberry is in the mountains since we were kids and spurious tip is one of those ingredients that people don't see a lot if they're not going to find dining or trying fancy cocktail. So that one's fund the spruce tip is gonna add the natural citrus elements to pair. What's kind of the tart sweetness of the Huckleberry the rhubarb vanilla again tart sweet with rhubarb and then sweet finish with the vanilla. And then with Marion Barry meant that one was just. Marion Berry's are not native here. But they grow like crazy. And so it's kind of one of those adopted Seattle or Washingtonian products for us in mint grows, like crazy on our farms. So we just thought let's pair those together for the best Moheda you've ever had. So with our all of our flavors, and we're still coming up with new seasonal flavors. It's all about what seasonal and what's local. And what is a unique perspective. It's also really exciting way to think about even non alcoholic beverages. I know you know, LaCroix is so hot in popularity and there's plenty of other beverages out there kind of of that ilk. But to have something that is a bit more specialized that's a bit more special just in general with different flavorings is pretty cool. Yeah. We actually just did an event for national Muqtada week. And it's the first national Maktel week gig harbor woman. Marnie Ray actually started it, and we just didn't have met with them. And we've been really impressed an excited by how welcome we've been by the sober community. And for people who may not be like sober forever. But the sober comedian. Yeah. It's a thing always drunk, but I. For people who can't or choose not to for any reason, there's a big feeling of being left out of the party. And so if you can have an inclusive brands that really provides something special for them, we reveal sober for nine months during our pregnancies. And may I get really tired of club soda or tonic launched their product when I was pregnant, and so it was all the taste testing that without the alcohol. I kind of feel that finish. And so everything that we wanted in our bottle. We wanted it to be able to be shared by everyone our kids drink the heck out of the rhubarb Annella is their absolute favorite. So the name of the brand is called simple, goodness syrups. You did mention a few of the flavors. Huckleberry spruce step. There's katie. Can you read those they're Marion berry meant as well? Just mentioned all of those. It's really awesome thing. You know from our perspective. Chef I'm not sure how you would look at it. But we're always about working with farmers and showing off their food in our in our entrees. Fresh product. That's available everywhere. I mean, those berries everywhere. There's no reason why not you know. It's like we have forgotten this the way it used to be we got away from that everything was made in a factory somewhere else. And then now we're going back to that. Which I think is very cool. Keep keep leading. Thank you. A lot of sustainability involves to which I know is big for both of you guys and your restaurants when you take our product it gets boiled. And so those berries don't need to look pretty so we actually ended up taking a lot of berries and other products that can't be sold on. Yeah. And we get to get a new vegetable next. We do a beat shrub that's been very popular of vents. And we're just we kind of launched as a as a test to the market. And now it's had this great response. So now, we're really not our next flavors. We're trying to get margins down where figuring out distribution. We're doing all those things in a new food. Business has to do business stuff. Business stuff. Belinda Kelly of happy camper. Kurds brace as Turkey-backed Syrian fighters prepare to replace exiting U.S. forces

"Caught many. By surprise, including those who have been fighting alongside the Americans specifically allied Kurdish. Forces NPR's, Ruth, Sherlock, just visited a military base in northern Syria right near the Turkish border. And she was speaking with a twenty five year old Kurdish soldier named Muhammad. We're only using his first name because he did not have formal authorization to speak. But here was his reaction to Trump's announcement. The Hazara ally. This decision is very dangerous because we're still fighting ISIS on the front line and had gene down even in those areas where we forced ISIS out. There's still thousands of sleeper cells me all know that they're still active. All right. Let's talk through the implications of President Trump's decision with Robert Ford. He served as US ambassador to Syria from twenty two thousand eleven two thousand fourteen he's now a fellow at the Middle East institute. And also a senior fellow at Yale University investor. Good morning. Good morning. So is the president making the right decision here to pull out of Syria. I don't usually agree with President Trump. And in this case, I do I think he's making the right decision to pull out and it needs to be done slowly. But surely is it going to happen slowly. But surely, I mean, I I don't know if you've got a firm time line from the Trump administration you here, I think they're working on that. Now, I'm the president seemed to say Tweety put out the other day that it'll be a slow and gradual and coordinated why do you think this is a good move. A lot of people really concerned that the two thousand or so forces have been doing some important work to fight ISIS. Right. I think there are people who were hoping that we could completely destroy ISIS which camp destroying aetiology with fighters with soldiers soldiers, don't destroy ideology and mother people thought it was a place to draw a line against Iran, but Iran's already in Syria, and it's not waving. And so I think there were people who had a variety of ideas about what an American military force in Syria can do, but the ideas themselves are very realistic. So the courtesy culture that we just heard from. I mean is there a reason he shouldn't feel abandoned by the United States here? Well, I think I understand why he feels abandoned but his fight a fight to set up an autonomous Kurdish zone. Self ruling into the northeastern Syria. Kids fight is not our fight. And I think that's the crux of the issue that needs to be discussed about the presence of us troops in Syria. What is the downside of keeping the two thousand forces, you know, beyond obviously, putting Americans endanger, which is always a deep concern. Is there a downside to keeping the force there for some time were? Yeah. There is it. It's a constant risk that we will get pulled into the fight that has long been going on between other states in the region. The Turkish fight with Syrian Kurds goes back decades. And I think President Trump is wise to try to keep it out of that fight. You. Put troops in northeastern Syria. All of a sudden, you're in the middle of perky, Syria, Iraq, Iran, it's it's messy. And I think most Americans don't really want to get involved in that let me ask you about the flip side of that, you know, for the US pull out maybe you avoid getting tangled in some of those those fights that you mentioned, but is there a risk in nations like Russia nations like Iran, filling a vacuum and having greater influence, not just in Syria but throughout the region, and and could that be a real concern for the US role in in the world? Why I don't think either Russia or China hopes to dominate the Middle East militarily? I think they are there for purely commercial reasons on the Russians, for example, have fat oil contracts with the Syrian government was loss of government. So of course, they'd like those field, but that Kurdish fighter that you talked about his forces control those over killed the Russians would like them. I've got a contract, but that isn't a reason to keep you as forces there, do we really want to get in the middle of a commercial argument between Russia and Syria and Turkey, and the Kurds you were in Damascus in two thousand eleven when the Syrian civil war broke out. I mean, it it looked like Bush L assets rule could be at risk. He is held on. Can you just reflect now looking seven years back? I mean, we have the United States announcing this pull out we have Russia's still there. We have our still in power. What what what are you reflecting on at this moment? Well, I was there. It was almost eight years ago now that the uprising started, and it is a reminder to me I'm in especially after I was in Iraq for five years that. We cannot control events on the ground in places like Iraq and Syria, Iraqis controls, Syrians, control them. And so we have to be realistic about what we can achieve as an American military force cannot fix all of the social economic and political problems in that region.
