"I. The question was raised moments ago from Tanya. Rod. Do you have nudes on your camera roll nudes of ourselves? Or other acts ourselves yourself tubs, you got a naked photos of yourself on your phone. I store all those in heart. hard-drive dry that's appropriate. Put them in hard drive. Yeah. You'd think alien shown to everybody. Left. So He left you send nudes that he quit. He said send them. I accidentally uploaded them because I was charged changing phones, and so all of my photos downloaded onto my work computer as their reason, we're having this conversation. First of all, do you have any news on your phone I? Do not take pictures of myself like that Let. Me Tell you why. That's a smart idea. Why? I can't. Connect, dot. Thank you don't don't need you to tell me because Chris Evans over the weekend he was. He had he shared a screen recording of his family playing the game heads up the game where you kind of the clue on your phone and it's on your head and so it's on your phone. Obviously. So when the video ended a camera roll displayed on the screen, it showed a photo of his manhood. And he quickly quickly took it down but obviously, people got screen shots and stuff like that. So this story went everywhere. It's not one hundred percent sure that that photo wasn't necessarily his phone or that it was his manhood in the photo. But I mean, the reactions were seriously like the tweets everything that happening over the weekend or so funny girl said I did not have Chris Evans accidentally sharing his. Manhood picks on instagram stories as one of my co Bingo. But Twenty twenty roles on I'm going to need a minute. Captain America. Let me shield down Do we have the photo, you put the photo on the report. No. Everywhere for this. Some described it in positive light. I guess I could just say and some deny another. Trader Joe's Fall Products to (Pumpkin) Spice Up Your Shopping List
"Welcome to another of our short shopping list episodes. I'm Tara Miller director of words and phrases and clauses, and I'm Matt Sloan, the marketing product guy now just about everyone in every type of business has had to make adjustments during this pandemic but we're proud the trader Joe's has maintained a commitment to developing new products to giving you that sense of discovery on every visit. So, let the discoveries begin. All right hold on I'm just organizing. I don't even know where to start there. So many new products. What's purple on the outside creamy white on the inside and makes a Great Ship Donny Osmond socks no. Almost Masaaki sweet potatoes. They're not the normal sweet potato. They're not the bright orange sweet potato, their paler in color and flavor. Wise. I'm going to say that they're kind of like a roasted chestnut in obnoxious kind of way. But in a nice way like insists nutty sweetness these are great chips but wait met we sell. Masaaki. Potatoes in our protection when we can get them. These are delicious sweet potatoes people love them. They're great for you. You meant the sweet potatoes themselves. You mean in chip form that these should be considered some kind of health. Okay. These are potato chips, full disclosure, right So they come with all the caveats that regular chips do sweet potatoes themselves really good for you. I will stand by them. Those are probably in the store. Already I think those are coming in at the beginning of September or something like that, and they are limited because there's a limited number of these potatoes that can be made into chips. People associate trader Joe's with Pumpkins stuff in the fall. How about Pumpkin Spice Pretzel Slim's I mean this is a candy. Yes Pretzel but it's a pretzel that is swimming in really nice white chocolate with crushed pumpkin spiced pumpkin seeds and I think we're trying to figure out another way to Pumpkin on their one more time. These are just great. So if you like the peppermint. Pretzel Slim's. I think you'd be a fan of these to these are really tasty sweet with just a little salty. So you just WANNA keep coming back for more. Another thing. That is sweet. But I think not too sweet are the pumpkin spice batons that are coming in and those are kind of a very close relative to the cocoa batons that we have every day and the vanilla batons we have the villa batons. Do, and we've had coffee batons we lemon for awhile it's a wafer cookie with pumpkin spice filling inside I mean it's kind of simple and straightforward, but it's a you know kind of thing you could have with a cup of coffee or even some ice cream though should be in stores by the time. This podcast lands and folks should be able to grab those right away. They're just delicious when we're thinking about. What else to include as a Pumpkin version we often look to really popular products Brioche we sell an inordinate amount of that classic agee, Sweet french-style Bread. We have a Pumpkin Brioche coming I'm excited for this. I think French toast will never be the same. That was also super limited by the right like it's it's in and we'll have it for a little while, but it's not something that's going to be around for. You know months and months and months. That's our hope for infant works or it'll be a great. Saint. Patrick's Day breakfast and by that time it'll be green. So perfect. One of the things that was a big sort of revelation to me this year even though it's not something we invented it's not something we were the first to think of is the spicy pumpkin curry simmer sauce that's coming in. It's kind of inspired more by a Thai curry than Indian curry but it has all of those really classic curry flavors. With the addition of actual Pumpkin and it's like thick and it's creamy and it's got a really good kick to it. I'M GONNA. Say This is good. Right out of the jar actually with Yeah Yeah I can't wait to hear about how people put this to use. We are working on a recipe right now internally for a Vegetarian Spicy Pumpkin Curry potpie that we're hoping to have on our website and in the fearless flyer in late. September. Also, I think slated to be featured in an upcoming flyer many spicy Pumkin Samosas the. Sabih in the frozen section, this is not a Pumpkin pie situation at all. This is an appetizer wonderful bridge creamy spiced pumpkin filling. This does sort of flavor. Wise. Go more toward the Indian style curry Classic Somoza Spices are used this. These are delicious. They're really good with a number of different kinds of sauces has been a we've tried them with a Chutney but also with our sweet chili sauce, which takes its inspiration from Thai cuisine and the hot and sweet pepper Jelly these tastes really good dipped in any of those. I'm still focused and obsessed with Pumpkin Pumpkin Nada. Now, this is a Pumpkin pie situation. So think of a small Mexican inspired hand pie with delicious spiced kind of a classic spice, Pumpkin Pie Spice filling. So. Good. So not like spicy spice but like sweet savory spice, the spices more like our spiced apple cider or a traditional Pumpkin pie spice sat up I mean this would be great for breakfast I. Think because I like to have pie for breakfast you know pine a cup of coffee is a great way to start the day, and this is like a little pie. So it's like I'm just having a little Lil Pie wilpon. That's your new nickname. Okay.

"You know we're talking last night Ben Rhodes and I. After the race and you before you can have a Mulligan you can have a bad race and and you'd probably be okay. I don't think you can do that. The champion of this series is going to run seven races and have seven top ten finishes I really think that's what it's going to take. You GotTa have seven top ten finishes. To Be the twenty twenty champion, the field is just to stack. There's there's too many good trucks. To, Go and have a a twenty fifth or thirtieth Spanish. It's GonNa be fun. It's GonNa. Be Intense. I think for sure it's it's a great great lineup. We've got a lot of good teams in the playoffs. All right pepper well, I appreciate the time as always it's been a while since we've been able to chat. So I'm glad we got to catch up and I'm looking forward you switch and hats tonight and I will tune in to see a spotter David pepper become cool and collected on that forty four radio. So I appreciate the time. All right. Thanks Kelly appreciate it anytime. As. Always come back to wrap up this week's podcast my appreciation and gratitude to David for the time try to squeeze in as much as I could again, he's very busy man. So tried to squeeze in as much as I could about him and what he's got going on what is going on with Thorpe sport racing in those thirty minutes and I appreciate him doing that I appreciate len over at Thorpe Fort Racing for getting US connected and making sure that the interview could happen. So that is one again as I said, lots of request out there hoping to end the year strong. Just gotTA. Get everybody scheduled. And the PODCAST will go into the off season and eventually we will regroup for twenty twenty one. But for this week, that is David Pepper I, appreciate him I appreciate. His insight into sport racing got three of their four trucks. As you heard US talk about in the truck series playoffs, which begins this weekend at Bristol. So they are gunning for another championship. They are the defending champions, remember. Matt Craft and won the championship last year without winning a race. So we'll see if maybe it's grant maybe it's the youngster and Ben Rhodes. Maybe Matt Craft and repeats. He has done that before I think for sport is going to be a very formidable team in the truck series playoffs. But as David also said, you never know with Shaggy Tories Group Austin Hill one regular season titles. So the truck series playoffs is here. Following. The NASCAR Cup series playoffs. And I believe this weekend at. Bristol. Also Sussex Manetti series playoff. So a lot going on in September as for marching right along like I said, we're getting down to it only a couple more weeks less than two months to go in the season once again, my appreciation to David for joining the podcast next week. Let's look ahead. Next week we've got another great conversation in terms of someone who Has, control. The race team, and that's going to be colleague of colleague racing. I've had just about everybody from calling racing on the podcast this year. Driver Aj Almond Dinger driver just in Haley crew chief team manager in. Chris Wray so now we're going to Matt Colleague to see just how he makes it all work over there at colleague racing, and again, that was another fantastic conversation and learned a lot from him as well. So I think you're really going to enjoy that that's coming up next week. So again, I appreciate you tuning in. If you liked what you heard, please let me know you can find me on social media, Kelly crandall you can give me some. Grief. For not having the podcast last week please leave a rating and review five stars preferably I appreciate that subscribe if you haven't done. So already hit that button spread the word on social media family and friends, and again I just appreciate everybody tuning in. So the PODCAST is back I can't say that enough I know it was only one week but I really felt bad not having a podcast I'd gotten in a groove. We had not missed one all year since we started back up in January. So it felt very odd to not have a podcast and again it was only one week but. I apologize and. Hopefully it didn't ruin your week last week, but we're back. So again, thank you, David Pepper. Thank you guys for tuning in. Thank you for listening subscribing all the support. We're going to be back next week right here on the racing writers podcasts..

"I i. sure. Wish we would've had fans there to see the show I. Think it was a great race It's a great facility I'm glad we're back there You know we're probably one of the unique situations where back in two thousand five, we were a team that competed there before we've been around. The longest in your team Uganda into most of these venues before the schedule changes and different things. So we we had all kind of in there but with the new configuration of the the field, it was got Kinda like going to a brand new track but. Funny Little Stat that You might find, humor. The last guy to win a truck race there as a crew cheesy in two thousand five. Was Jeff Kinsley he crew chiefs the ninety eight truck. So it was Kinda comical that he was the last guy to get a win their skin and came back and won within pinker last night. So just got a pretty good setup for that way. So maybe maybe the inside has changed with the the track itself is still toughest it'd be and and just is good times. We had a great great night It was a really special evening. We've been trying to go one two three per number of years and and couldn't have picked a better time. A better place better track to do it. That's the first time I believe. It is yeah. Not only source sport but is it anybody any team truck series that don? One, two, three, anybody there's been one two hours but there's never been one two threes. So, how fitting is it? Then that had been to be the longest tenure team twenty fifth anniversary season right for for sports. So another to put down the resume. Yeah. Just A it's just little things. Main do can and Rhonda have been tremendous supporters of the truck series for you know a quarter century and you know they give us everything we need. It's it's nice to be able to have our guys could together a a race like that and you know get those little accolades for for him. He's he's never to to. Promote himself and what he's done, and so we have to go out there and do that or him because he's. He's been a supporter NASCAR and the truck series or Many many years and go to really great organization and we love to go out there and win races and try to give back some some semblance of appreciation to everything that he's done for the sport and everything he does for us. David Pepper the team manager for sport racing pepper as he is affectionately known I I enjoy calling on that. So again, I just mentioned it thor sport twenty-fifth anniversary season. I know you've been there. What may over ten years now? I believe it is. Give an years. Give. Give the cliff notes version if you can of just your tenure in Nascar believe before you got to sport you with and I could be wrong ruko motor sports way back in the day give everybody the cliff notes version pepper of just where you've been what you've done in the sport before we move into what you've got going on nowadays. the easiest way to do it has. Been doing this for about twenty eight years Worked, at the number of different places, you mentioned Ruko and and you know obviously sport and just work my way up I. Mean I've done everything from Dr Show, trump the paint and decal trucks and spot it and wrote big crew worked I was a tire. Changer. Gasman and. In a we've done just about everything and We made some tremendous friends and acquaintances and and had a great career that I hope continues to go for another twenty years and You know we we just keep going to these truck races. I know a number of years ago we we did our. Race. In a row and I was spotting for grant and we got to win that race and that was pretty special and. So I mean, I've just been fortunate to be with some really great people bobby. Hamilton racing, and all those guys are in Tennessee and. You know just doing the Cup stuff you know spotting and. Bunches different teams, expanding series and. You know pretty much done a little bit of everything all the way through which I guess kind of gives me a qualifications to to be team manager here or sport as you. You can look at all the different situations you've had a little bit of experience with with a lot of different things. So it helps you look at the total program. When you're when you're at work every day. Not, just be you know coming from one side or the other Again I just. It's been a great career and hope it goes for another twenty years and we can win you know. Three or four more championships. I've been fortunate to win three trucks titles and a an arcus series I don. And been able to spot or work with some of the. Greatest drivers in our. Our sport. It's it's just been a lot of fun. It's been my lifelong dream and not a lot of people get to do that. They have dreams maybe they don't get to do that their whole life and I've been very fortunate to to be able to work in NASCAR and and be a part of it which is You, know really all I ever wanted to do and it's been. It's been great. But there's never been a season like we're all seeing this year with of course, the pandemic and restrictions things were having to do let's just been your overall take on just what the sport looks like and how we've been able to just race with everything that's been going on. Know I think the preparation to go to the racetrack. First of all, I want to come in Nascar. You, know we we. Worked very hard. They have worked very hard to put together a blueprint to allow us to go back Richardson We were the first one you know in the sports world to go back racing, they set the bar high and everyone else has tried to follow. Everybody in Nascar commended for for getting this done and it appears we're going to run all these races, complete a full season and all of the national touring series. That that speaks very highly of the amount of work that. Steve Phelps all of his people are put together to make this happen. The flip side to that is, yes it's totally different. We have we all of a sudden are going to racetracks Darlington last week that were not on the truck schedule and we're raising it in a different. And and you know you logistically, you had to change what trump's you're gonNA take wear and and people, and and you're taking people to their tiller track. You're no longer practicing and qualify I mean the changes have been abundant to try to do this. But you just Kinda roll with the punches I mean you you take the next change and you roll with it and you you make adjustments in your team and. Then at the end of the day when they dropped the or dropped the green flag to start the race. That really that two three hour window for the race is still very much the same as as it always has been It's you know thirty six to forty guys out there battling and hopefully the best guy wins and you put on a good show and and we entertain you know our fans at home that are are watching and supporting us and. That part of it really hasn't changed. It's a logistics of getting to the race track with people and equipment and. And just trying to keep everybody safe. Is. Is Really. Part that has been the biggest change we've had to adjust you know how we traveled to some of these races and and times and different things and who you, and you know we're making it work. But yeah,.

"The racing writers podcast. I'm your host Kelly Crandall. The podcast is back football's back. The podcast is back I apologize for having to take a hiatus last week but had not been able to get any of my request scheduled. So took a week off but back this week with a great guest David Pepper, the team manager of Thor sport racing, and we're going to end the year strong couple more weeks to go in the NASCAR Cup series playoffs in the NASCAR season a couple more weeks of the podcast and we're going to go out with a bang lots of stuff getting lined up but David pepper this week or pepper. As he is affectionately known is the guest David I chatted actually Friday morning. So it was the morning after thor sport racing one one-two-three at Richmond raceway in the return of the truck series to Richmond Grant, finger, picking up his third win of the season. So David and I chatted Friday morning. So just a couple days later, you are hearing this interview. So it's very relevant. We talked about the trucks back at Richmond what's been going on with thor sport racing and previewing the truck play offs because that is now going to begin this week at Bristol. So David's wonderful guy. But what makes him unique is when he doesn't have his team manager on which he did Friday morning, we were supposed to talk about ten am and. Picked up the phone said Hey I got gotTA call you back I've got my team manager hat on right now taken care of some things as they put. The Richmond race to bed and focus on the playoffs. We can talk about it. So you're going to hear that once again, very relevant conversation. But when he doesn't have team manager hat on David is also a spotter. He spots in the xfinity series for Tommy Joe Martins as well as Corey joined the Cup series and then wherever he has to fill in and might be on a thor sport radio, it might be somewhere else. He's been doing that nearly as long as I think he's GonNa team manager. So it's a very cool role. Cool. Dual job that David Pepper. So again. I'm glad the PODCAST is back again we're going to end the year. Strong. So let's get to it. Great Conversation. I had David for about thirty minutes I. Hope you learn a lot I did and again. PODCAST is back here it is. David pepper.

"It takes priority. And when my day job is more demanding, I'm not as able to focus on short stories and novels. Sometimes I spend more time on not about lumberjacks other times I. Dedicate all my fiction writing time to novels. Especially, during those times with novels, it means I'm less likely to put out a new episode of not about lumberjacks. Granted there have been times I've put in overtime at work time toward a novel and still released episodes of not about lumberjacks. Here's my not so secret. I started the show with a backlog of stories, mostly or completely ready to record. Pepper is the thirty first story I've released for the show. If you factor in the Christmas episodes with their multiple shorter works, forty one original stories exist on the site. Of those roughly half were already written meaning, if I needed to get an episode out during a busy point in my life I could just grab an old story and be well ahead in the most lengthy part of most productions the writing. I'm now at a point that I have no old stories to record. Everything is new so I no longer have the luxury of planning episode. Realizing life is getting in the way in falling back on an existing tale. With very few exceptions, writing is the longest part of the process in sometimes I'm not able to focus on new about lumberjack stories, because I'm busy with work or other writing at the time. When factor in the time writing new stories, figuring out the production recording editing, creating and finding sounds and music, and then putting it all together. Some episodes of the show have likely taken forty to sixty hours to produce from that initial idea to something. You can listen to for free. On average I guess most take twenty to thirty hours. I. Don't view the creative things. I do like a corporate return on investment. I have fun creating episodes so I. Make Them. But when you factor in forty to sixty hours spent on a thing that usually gets forty listens in its initial weeks of release, and then creeps up to maybe seventy five to a hundred listens with those rare stories. Listen to buy two hundred people. It's not like there are throngs of fans banging on my door, demanding episodes. And while I care about every listener, not about lumberjacks comes with a certain reality for me as much as I'd love it to be my day job in addition to writing novels, it's unlikely to ever happen. And that's not me being gloomy. It's just a fact. Most people who set out to write fiction full-time never will. You can wish to be a bestselling novelist. All you want even doing all you can to make it happen, but it's a lot like being a professional athlete. Even the best in their fields never realized that dream. And so some days when I've been working long hours on a release at work, the last thing I wanna do is eat dinner with my wife, and then sit down to write stories and work on recording them until it's time to go to bed only to get up early in right at my day job the following morning. Sometimes you want to have a little break. More Times than not I. Just WanNa. Hang out with my wife. Sometimes, I WANNA meet up with friends on a Wednesday or Thursday night. And other times I just WANNA. Do nothing at.

"I know it's no big deal, but sometimes you look into his eyes, and it's like he understands everything like we do anytime. You have a work trip. I'd be happy to watch them. I appreciate that I know you refuse to take any money when I ask you to watch pepper, but I really feel like I. Pay You for all you've done this week. Andrea smiled and said about this. You treat me to our coffee or a beer sometime soon. Maybe even dinner. It was not the answer. Joey expected him. He surprised himself by saying sure. That sounds great without giving it a second thought. When Andrea finally left, pepper said see told you she wants to get to know you better. With each successive work trip, Joanne Andrea spent more time together. Soon she was irregular around the apartment. Even when Joey wasn't away when their relationship became more than ordinary friendship and Andrea suggested they spend the night together Joey said. Can we go to your place? Why Joey KOCHTA's head toward his father? We can close the door joey. I know, but still it's just weird thinking about him on the other side of the door. In time, there were long trips together to big Sur semi and Tahoe places where they could be free from cramped spaces and enjoy time away from the rush of busy lives. During a trip to the redwoods, Joey stopped pepper from pumping a cabin. Neighbors Pug. Out of embarrassment half, wanting to ensure the strange sibling he could ever imagine would never be loosed upon the world. And work became a thing. Joey now did to save and pay the bills. It was no longer a sick refuge from all the things in life that scared can. While Joe, we did all the could get his forty hours in each week. Input work behind him. There were still occasional week long trips to other cities required by the job. Joey's heart raced when after landing following a week of work in Chicago. He saw the text message from Andrea when he got off the plane. We need to talk. Despite a life of recent bliss he reverted to the terrified fragment inside himself. He's still could not fully expunge. He texted back. Are you breaking up with me. His phone vibrate and. Where stuck with each other. Maybe even more after today. In the Uber on the way home. Joey was so nervous that he spent the time doing breathing exercises Andrea hit todd him. When? He entered his apartment Andrea Pepper. We're on the couch with the television turned off. The world seemed to fall away from beneath Joey's feet when pepper looked at him, and said Hey, this daddy's little boy. Why didn't you tell me Andrea Kentucky? Pepper and Andrea Lab, Joey said. How much do you know quite a bit? Scared the hell out of me when he started talking I thought someone slipped something into my coffee, but the more we talked more I knew it was real. Leo broke the ice the night you left for the trip. We figured we'd wait until you were done in Chicago before saying anything. It was strange, almost jarring to hear. Somebody used joey his father's name. His. Mother always referred to him as your father, and what Family Joey had was small and old, and on the other side of the country. Why did you tell her dad? Because it's clear you to a serious about each other? It's not a secret. We keep forever. Leo Pepper Palermo was right without the secret revealed seeing where Joe is life with Andrea could go would always have a little drooling black and white bump in the way to bigger things. Their wedding was small. Just the bride and groom Joey's mother Andrea Brother and pepper. The day of the service pepper said. Can we tell you about me? No, Joey said and not today. This Day belongs to you, too. I, mean sometime soon. It wouldn't be fair to her dad. She's moved on yeah. You're right. As the years moved on, Andrea opened her own salon. Joey began consulting on contracts leaping more time to spend with the two people. He loved most. A small place to call their own was purchased. Outright plans were in place. That work would soon become a thing done because they wanted to not because they had to. It was a perfect life until the day pepper wandered into Joey's office and said Hey Joe. We need to tie. Joey saved the file he was working on and said. WHAT'S UP DAD? I've been keeping quiet about it hoping it would go away, but. Not Been Feeling so hot lately. I know this feeling. I think I need to see at? The vet confirmed peppers worries cancer. When Joey got the call confirming their fears, he remembered the first time his father had the disease how he stayed on the road as much as he could. Claiming head to keep providing for his family in between chemotherapy and radiation treatments despite Joey and his mother, doing well on their own, how it seemed like he worked even more all in an effort to hide his pain from family. When he could work no more, he came home and slept. Until the day came when he couldn't even manage that. He was already mostly a memory in the lives of his wife and son, just a guy from Boston, who had a knack for sales moving up from selling encyclopedias door to door in later car crushers who ended up in San Francisco selling software. It wasn't that Joey didn't miss his father when he died, but aside from seeing him wiped out from a disease. It was already like he was never there. But this time it was different. This time good memories had been made. This time it hurt. When the medicine no longer took the edge off peppers discomfort. Asked his father. What's it like what's what link? Dying. Pepper looked up pondering the question a moment. Then, he looked at his son and said it's like finding. Your hold on refusing to empty your stomach. You bargain and. Fight against it. Maybe you get comfortable for a moment and think it's all okay, but that feeling comes back. It's terrible, but you don't WanNa. Let go. But then that point comes when you do finally. Let loose, and it feels good when you're done so good that you promise yourself the next time you're sick. And she won't fight. I, don't WanNa. Fight this Joe. On the morning of Leo, Palermo's second death before the vet arrived at the house, Pepper said you know the saddest thing about all this. What Joey said that we don't offer the same dignity to humans. I would have taken this option first time around before it gets so bad and we all suffered. It's an option now at least here in California. That's good. Needs to be everywhere. It's still hard though. Pepper looked up at her with his wide is. It is. I'd love the hell out of this. Getting to know you. Hell getting to know my son. It's weird. How normal this crazy weird life feels like. This is the way it was always supposed to be. Andrea smiled. Yeah, you may not have been the best father the first time around, but the dad I never had. Same here Joey, said. I Love You I. Love You.

"First time, just call me. Tarantino Joey locked the front door and plop down on the couch. Pepper climbed up the Doggie steps and sat beside his son. I'm sorry. Joe Act funding I thought you would to joey cracked grin. As oppose. It was a little funny. It was just weird. This whole thing is sometimes it all seems so normal, and that makes it even weirder you know. Yeah. It was hard not to say something when she was right here. I know I get off on the wrong foot. Literally, but even seeing your mom yelling at the TV. I missile that. I wanted to tell how sorry I was. Sorry I am. She's right. Though your mom You work too much sun. Joey side and said. You're one to talk. I know I know, but that was my big regret in the end. that. I wasn't there for you and your mom. And Dad, I didn't see grow. I convinced myself that I was providing few guys out on the road and that was enough. It wasn't. Missing out like that. Most people I talked to when I died and was waiting to come back. That was the biggest regret in life, too. Probably why so many people don't choose to come back when the offer is extended to them? They're ashamed. Well Fortunately I. Don't have a wife and kid true, but you have a whole world to explore outside of a cubicle I work in an open office and sorry to hear that those things are hell. Yeah, but what about Andrea don't you have at least the slightest urge to get to know her a little better? It's too much of a hassle that sounds like the kind of thing someone with a bunch of relationship problems behind him would say no problems, I. Just you just have so much work to do yeah. He me out on this. What happens when you job goes away, I mean it's not like it used to be when you work someplace until retirement. Giving up your life for a place that's going to eventually show you. The door is a dead way of life. I'm aware of these things that like I told mom I'm nearing a point where I can buy a house outright. I'll likely be able to retire early if I want. I'm doing fine. All Right? Let me put it another way. Did. You ever make a mistake at work. Yeah, of course, and did you ever see someone else about to make the same mistake, so you stepped in to tell them the lesson you already learned. Joey thought about all the people he'd helped at work over the years how he always took the time to assist anyone willing to ask for hand. I see what you're getting at, but what nobody seems to get as I actually like my job. I'm happy for you. But. Don't you love other things to? You used to always talk about big adventures. Yeah, but I was a kid. Then kids are told to think big, and then they're told by the same people to have more realistic dreams and get a good job. That's what I did. What are you afraid of? What what are you afraid of? You Act like the only safe place a work in home. I don't know I. Guess I was pretty much a latchkey kid. I didn't have a ton of friends. Because I was scared, fall out of trees or drown or something doing all the things they did. If I'm being honest. I guess the world kind of scares me when I don't know how something works. Injury is, not. Scared If you only had one trip to take in your life, where would you go? Iceland really same. Here I've heard it's beautiful. We should go I can't why not bic? Of Work! There's nothing wrong with being scared son. Just. Don't make the mistake of not seeing someplace special with someone you love. As weeks turned into months, the living arrangement between Joey and pepper settled into a routine both enjoyed. There were after dinner talks which all of peppers sins as a father were forgiven. Stories shared and weekend outings. The loneliness at the end of each day keeping Joey at work, sometimes late into the evening, became a thing of the past most as he left work on time, even though he's still worked a little on his phone while watching TV with his father. It became so familiar that it seemed like the way it always was until one afternoon when Joey Cam home and said so dad what's up Joe. What do you think about spending a week? In a Nice Kennel like one of those Doggie Day spot kind place. Why would I do that? Work needs me to go on site in Dallas for a week next month, Gotcha. Why do I need to go anywhere? Just leave food and water out and I'll be fine. Yeah, but that's a week of PM Pu. This place will wreak by the time I. Get home fair point. But I don't want to go to a Kennel. Done time in a few along the way and finding you. Allowed and uncomfortable. But. I have another idea. What's that Andrea? Watch me. Even if she just comes over a couple of times a day around her work schedule. To. Let me out and feed me. I'd feel weird asking her why she thinks I'm adorable. Have you ever noticed how Sheikh conveniently has to run an errand? Something when you take be downstairs. That's just likely the odds. You should a lot, dad, so of course we cross paths as much as we go down there now. Sometimes it's by design the way she comes over and chats and lingers. Maybe it's just me and my charming ways. But I guarantee this if you go across the way and ask her to watch me. I'll bet you a hundred dollars she will. And where are you going to get one hundred dollars if you lose I'll it from my beloved son? Pepper was right. Andrea was happy to watch him while Joey was away. She sat on the couch next to Joey's father when he returned home from his in Dallas. So how'd everything go this week? Great is the easiest dog to care for her. I hope you don't mind, but I brought him over to my place last two nights I just felt bad leaving him alone. No. That's okay. Did he behave? Yes, we did yoga together. He's like a little shadow following me around everywhere. I had to close the door when I took a shower before work..

"Jesus Dad. That's nasty got to clean up, you know. And Trust me. If you could look your own nets, you would. All Day Long. It's a dream come true. It didn't take long for Joey and pepper to fall into a routine like roommates that is, if one roommate for almost wholly dependent on the other for survival. In many other ways, pepper was better than Joey housemates in and after college quieter with much more in common than where they went to school. Joey grew USTA pepper teasing each time their paths crossed Andrea's. Pepper enjoyed lazy days alone in the apartment, napping eating and even crapping on peapod in the bathroom at least twice a week. He said watching you clean up after me. We'll never get old. Their lives settled into a rhythm until an otherwise typical Wednesday night when Joey phone lit up and chimed with a reminder. Oh Shit. I totally forgot MOM's coming over on Sunday for lunch in the forty niners game. But so bad about that. Joey looked at his father in raised his eyebrows what I could be quiet and behave. Don't you think that all that stress from always working? How poorly for on the road contributed to his cancer? Joey nodded, but like I. said I don't stress about much at all. Maybe you didn't hear me because of the game, but I eat well. I get the discount on my health insurance at work because I'm so healthy. I'm fine. Okay honey. I'm sorry I just. gave him the the field. Just want you to be happy. I'm happy, mom. That's good. I've always wondered if your father was happy, I'm sure he was. It seems like he was running from things like from us. It made me feel like I wasn't good enough like a wasn't a good enough wife. Made me feel like I've done something wrong and drove him away. You didn't drive them away. He loved us. You're right I'm sorry Joe. I don't mean to be a Debbie Downer. She looked at pepper shit. Even the dog sad. When the game was over enjoys, mom had left. Pepper looked up at Joey. Did you see my little red racket? I'm not talking to you. Come on, it was funny. You assaulted MOMS foot. When it'd be the.

"Inside his apartment, Joey said his father terrier down on the floor before plopping onto the couch. Pepper struggled to leap up beside his son. His stubby front legs searched for a grip on the cushion while his back legs kicked against the site of the couch. Joey leaned forward in hoisted the dog up the rest of the way. Pepper looked up at his son. Thanks. Joey shook his head. This can't be real. What can this you coming back? It's Real Joe. All, right, so let me guess then you're here to make amends for being a shitty father, so you can move on or come back as a human again or something. Like that you get a choice to stay or come back. You can come back is a human and animal whatever you want. It's not like serial killers. Come back as bugs as punishment. What the Fuck could a bug learn, you know. Oh, hey, emma may five per day and I finally figured it all out just like that enlightenment. Good people bad people all offered the same deal. Part of the deal is if you come back as a human your memory as white, but come back as an animal, and you get to remember previous life. You get to see the people you left behind. If you can find them again. That's why there are so many strays. If that's how it works, the world would be full of talking dogs and cats. Animals don't talk true most own anyway. I never saw the power powers that be. He she it whatever it is are they are as a sense of humor? Once in a while, they send someone requesting going back as an animal, the ability to talk. Just to mess with people. I guess that's Shitty. Guess God sometimes get his blood with their existence the rest of us all right if you had your choice, why'd you come back as a Boston terrier? Why not something majestic like a German shepherd, or in English mastiff? Because Boston terriers funny? You can't be sad when you're around Boston. Terrier I figured you'd be surprised if I. have found you maybe even mad. I mean who could get mad at a face like this besides it fits my accent, don't you think joey slid is phone from his pocket and started dialing. What are you doing? Calling in sick to work if there is something in my coffee, and this is all the result, it'll wear off at some point. But if it's real and I'm starting to think it is then we have a lot of talking to do. In the hour and a half that followed, it became clear to joey that there was nothing in his coffee. According to the Boston terrier, it is side. It was his father getting another chance at life. The tiny dog told him only stories. His father would new. Pepper told him how he straight from family to family in an effort to find his son how happy he was to discover Joey hadn't moved since his father's human form died. I'm a creature of Habit Joey. said I drive into Frisco for work and come back to this side of the bay. The rest of the time the two were talking about one of the few Christmases, Joey's father was home when pepper said hold that thought I gotTa Pee Joey, carried him downstairs and set them in the grass. His father rooted around like a tiny pig. Hey you should smell this. It's a whole other World Dad Pepper sniffed around until finding a spot near Holly Bush where he lifted his leg. Figuring that, was it. Joey started towards the stairs. It wasn't until hearing a neighbor. Say Wow, aren't you a little cutie that he turned back and realized his father had more business to attend to. He was squatted in the grass, dropping allude from his backside. Pepper looked up at the neighbor across the way. Joey only chatted with in passing. Joey knew her name was Andrea and that she cut and styled hair. She looked at Joey and said it doesn't bother me especially with a little dog like this, but property management will come and hinged. They see you out with an unleash dogged. Joey didn't know if Andrea was saying. Lease your dog asshole and the nicest way possible or genuinely warning him. It had dawned on him until then. That pepper was likely here to stay. His life would no longer be zone. He now had a new living in roommate who would require assistance for so many basic things all without contributing to bills or much else around the apartment? Just found him this morning Joey said he's a stray. Pepper finished making a pile on the ground. He turned back in sniff the heat before leaning forward and quickly raking his back legs through the grass, kicking up tiny bits of clippings and leaves. I hate asking this Joey said, but can you watch him for just a moment? I thought he just needed to P. I need to get a bag to clean that up. Andrea bent down to pet joey's father. Sure. In his kitchen. Joey rummaged for something to clean up his father's mess in the grass downstairs. He wishy used in saved plastic bags from the grocery store. His only option was ziplock sandwich baggie from the Pantry. His father came back as a Boston terrier in not as a great Dane. Back downstairs he turned the bag inside out and picked up the pepper pile. Warmth of his father's species repulsed joey is he turned the bag back out? He's zipped the top shut imagining molecules of waste, covering his hands seeping into his pours. Seeing the shit so clearly through the plastic. He understood why most dog waste bags were colored. He wondered what he looked like to Andrea standing with a pile on display, but she was too busy, petting pepper notice, or maybe she was just trying to make the whole scene a little less awkward. It's so weird the way he looks up at you. It's like he's about to say something. You have no idea. Back upstairs joey opened his galkin door to set the baggy outside pepper said. This is great. You cleaning up after me. My revenge for all the diapers you feel I, thought you just needed. The PG we said while closing the door, so did I. These things happen. After washing his hands in the kitchen sink. Joey plot back down on the couch. His father looked up at him from the floor. One of the first things I'm buying at the pet store later. Today is a set of little doggy stairs, so you can get up and down with each new thought Joey realize just how much he didn't know about. Tending to a dog's well being, and just. How much has life was about to change? I don't even know what you eat. Doug Food I'M A dog. But I love table scraps. Doesn't dog food tastes like dog food? Yeah, it's not so bad when you're a dog. My tastes insensitive smell are so different now. Enough about all that. Though who's the girl what girl? The one downstairs the one who watched me when you came up for my poop begging, she was something she's just a neighbor. But what's the name? Andrea, knowing their names a good start. What getting to know her better I'm not interested in that. If there's something you never told me, Joe I, mean I. don't care if you're a man's man. I just want to be happy. I just don't want a relationship. Get in the way of work part of it. It's just not something I. Want Right now get Getcha. Pepper hunched over in licked his crotch.

Thank you to rick for putting this whole episode together. And the now usual disclaimer. This story contains swearing in discussions about family death. You've been warned. All Right? Let's get to work. Hafer. Joey. Palermo swore he heard his father call his name, but when he turned around, all he saw was the Boston terrier. Hit Sat on the sidewalk, looking up at him as though he were some kind of God. It's tongue curled in, and out of its mouth is gasping for breath. It's bulging. Eyeballs looked ready to fall from its tiny head like sticky marbles. You're a funny looking thing. Must be genetic. The Boston terrier said in dead father's voice. Joey looked at the cup of coffee in his hand, wondering if somebody slipped something into the drink at starbucks. Never wanted to use drugs. He couldn't blame it on a flashback. He looked around to see if anyone was recording him. It seemed like something YouTube. Prankster might do for views, but it was just him in the dog. In, not losing your mind Joe it's me. Dad, I'm back. You'd be amazed at all. I went through to find you. Joey crouch down to the dogs level. He read the tag on the Boston terriers red collar. Pepper. Yeah, little girl names me. You know how it is. Remember when you were little and wanted to name the cat flip Joey Palermo went through phases a kid when he was so enamored with reruns of the TV show flipper that when his mother got a new cat, he begged her to name it after his favourite Dolphin. Don't ask me then take an equation et cetera numbers and apply it to something don't ask me to take a couple of steps and then walk back three steps and make that thing work the second time after you showed it to me once it's an absolutely not for people who use that side of their brain I know what side of my brain works one side I stay in my lane I do creative things and try and be semi business savvy but don't ask me Mr Ely coach Ely from high school who is my chemistry teacher who gave me a C. and that was that was actually honestly being generous because cheated off Kevin Chang Kevin Chang you're listening to the us he and I were both student body presidents together that's an absolutely yes for running for office and doing good Kevin Chang literally I dunno if he knew that he was letting me cheap but he just like wasn't very which he didn't really cover his tests do you know what I'm saying so uh no I think he actually liked threw me abound because here's the thing Kevin I remember we had a very intelligent conversation when Dave Heather Kevin was like Valedictorian and went to Harvard Ed school like beyond beyond beyond smart but Kevin had a you know what you're good at not everybody has to be a rocket scientist and I was like dink you Kevin you get it now let me cheat off your chemistry test end in whether he knew it or not and I passed with the sea and I still went to Ole miss aw so the moral stories follow your dreams kids and find the smart Asian in your class and said catty corner to the left of him and and you'll pass chemistry work smarter not harder that's the name of the game that's the way I'm trying to live my life just in general these days really out here trying to do the Lord's work it's a lot though you guys have put a lot of pressure on me and I just want to say like absolutely yes to all the things that are clicking and happening and I'm I'm just is beyond I'm so beyond grateful for everything that's happening but I'm GonNa just say a quick absolutely not and you know what it's probably not somebody who actually tunes in religiously to the podcast that's probably not having to deal with but I have gotten a little Sassy I don't know if you've got a pepper your panties are what's happening but you got some SAS line my DM's a woman messaged me the other day and I don't think people realized when you type things it can come off in a different way that's why I always talk on the phone like during the medley said from the real housewives of New York say it forget right it regret it sin me a voice memo if you WanNa say something Sassy send me a video swipe can hear the tone the inflection in your voice I know the cadence I know if this is a joker not some y'all have been getting ultra fucking Sassy in my DM's and ninety nine percent of it is of and I am here for it and if I need to be checked check me but a woman sent me a message the other day that just burned my biscuits so help me God my areolas lit on fire she said I jeff look so much more handsome if he is mustache connected or if he trimmed his beard Where do I even start here one no two no three absolutely not do not send me a message about what you think my spouse should do to look better for you Kerry coppee one jeff cannot grow in his mustache it's a personal problem he's very sensitive about it okay he is a must rush Tattoo on his finger on his pointer finger that he got with ten of his buddies because they used to make fun of him so bad that his mustache would not connect to his beard so thank you for bringing up a triggering moment for him thank God he didn't see it he will hear this because he does actually as active not passive partner in my life if he listens to all the episodes so he's going to hear this life but to if he wants a Wolverine Beard let him have it I don't like it when people tell me what Jeff should do to be cuter for them I know he's hot I know a couple of singles eighties want to get your hands and chest hair and let me tell you what you come close the big dog will bite that was that was not a very emanating bark you hear me I will bite get back get back Satan and get back Theresa 'cause that's essentially the name of the bed choose me surge I don't mess I don't ask for a lot I just asked for us to keep things positive touch sarcastic but the day you start messaging me telling me what to do with my Mans also nothing is more annoying than when somebody says like if you're a guy with a beard you should be clean shaven gas what Jeff Apac good clean shaven because he needs a Sun Tan he's too Pale right now if he is a Suntan that faces snatched right now it's just the dark shading and the beard adds a Nice Contour I shouldn't even have to break down what I'm saying right now you should just beyond board and say Gotcha here you sister and then when I messaged her a little Sassy back she got upset I said you don't ever it to be upset you don't we're transitioning into like the fall fashion moment and I got these really amazing white boots obsessed with and I got.
