"Xavier at marquette inside Travis deaner forum. Kim pump has it Xavier minus one. You can watch it on FS1. Xavier favored on the road against marquette. Very interesting. That's interesting. So we go by when we do the show on Friday mornings, the lines for Saturday and this was a Sunday game. And they have not come out yet. I think this is going to be a situation where X is favored on Ken palm, the line is actually going to be marquette minus one when it comes out. It could be wrong, but I think because of the win streak, the public will actually want to bet marquette to win this game. And so the golden eagles will be favored. But for the purposes of this podcast, we are going by the projected line at Ken Pam dot com. Xavier's only losses, neutral Iowa state and to Villanova twice. I'm not going against marquette here. I'm going to go marquette to win. And technically for these purposes it would be straight up. But Xavier salad, I think this could be a really, this is the best game of Sunday, by the way. For an NFL divisional round weekend, this 2 o'clock tip on Fox Sports one, it's only this, and then the lead in to the playoffs on CBS, Michigan plays at Indiana. We're not picking that game just a heads up. The CBS basketball game on Sunday, Michigan and Indiana, that's interesting just to see if Indiana can continue its momentum after the win on Thursday night. For those the only two you really need to know about real consequence I feel on Sunday. I will take our cat into cover and Justin Lewis to continue to be awesome. He's been their best player in the most important player of the season. But Daryl Marcel has also been has also been pretty critical of the Maryland transfer and he I expect him to show up well in this game as well, close one, our cat ones. Marquettes on the verge of the top 25 and one, this could push them there. It should push them there if they win. There'd be a 6 game winning streak. They would improve to 7 and 6 in the first two quadrants with zero additional losses. Right now they have 5 quadrant one wins. That would take them to 6. Stakes are pretty clear. Marquette wins, they go to the top 25 and one, you agree. Yes. Travis DeNA forum should be electric, given that the proud golden eagles are coming back home after a really nice win at Villanova. It's just a lot of stuff to deal with, don't you think? It's a ton. It's a lot of stuff to deal with for Xavier. I think market wins and covers. Wrong team favorite. If we're saying Xavier's favored, it's a wrong team favorite situation. Yeah. We're on the same page again. It's a hard to catch you if we're often on the same page. Be intellectually honest. Pick the team that you actually think is going to cover here. I don't want to be honest anymore. If you want to switch a stop for next week and you make the first pick and I and so I you pick first. I'm going to pick whoever I think I'm not going to try and do and have any gamesmanship with it. So it's up to you. You see we're being honest has gotten me, don't you? Yeah, it's got me to auburn Kentucky on the sideline on Saturday. How about that? I never thought of it that way. I never thought I'd never thought of it that way. All right, so we both got we both got marquette with the win. Reminder, if you're watching this on YouTube, if you're watching it live or if you've come later in Friday or Saturday morning, do tap that like button and smash it. You can smash it. Yep. You can fashion it for sure. We appreciate you so much, and thanks for helping us to continue to grow the channel. This was and is the first college basketball podcast ever to go to video. Not enough people talk about that. Tell the people in Indiana. Let them know. It's actually my first is actually the first podcast to ever be on video. We are the first two people to ever make a video. Okay. Folks don't realize that. We're the first people to ever be on video. We started doing it a few months ago, and now Adele's doing it. To announce cancellations. Before I give you my own how about, how about you give us a little heads up before you cancel your residency, then we'll go easy on you. Can't cancel the day before and then be like, oh, easy on me. You know what? There we go. Oh. You know what? I don't know. I don't know. I don't know if you deserve for us to go easy on you Adele. Before I get to my game, which is a fun one, mid major special. Here's what you need to know the rest of the week. Friday night, Illinois will play at Maryland at 7 eastern Kofi coburn is not going to play in that game. He did not travel with the team. There have been reports that he has had he suffered a concussion. No cobra and at Maryland, probably figured Illinois is going to win that, but maybe it's a little tricky little close. The big game of Friday is Michigan state at Wisconsin 9 eastern Fox Sports one. It's the 150th time these schools have met. Who do you think leads the all time series GP? What game? Oh my gosh. Michigan state of Wisconsin, 9 eastern Friday, Fox Sports one. I think Wisconsin leads the all time series. You're very wrong. Michigan state 83 66. I thought the only reason you would ask that is because it wouldn't be the obvious answer. Got into twisted year around. That's right. That's a wonderful Big Ten matchup there. And both those teams are tied to top the league ledger. That's a Friday game. We are not picking it. I'm letting you know Saturday, the ones where you're not paying pick Friday games. I thought about it. I was like, that's not something I do. That is a really good game. We'll be still be locked into it. West Virginia, Texas tech noon eastern on ESPN2 kind of feels like West Virginia. You might win that one. Just a little bit of a hunch. Florida state at Miami is a two eastern tip on Saturday on ESPN, really nice game between a couple of bubble teams and I'll be intrigued to see what Miami can do after beat North Carolina earlier this week. Kansas will play at K state for eastern ESPN+. If case data is actually going to try and be a bubble team coming out of the big 12, and that leads to try and send 9 to the tournament, which I don't think is going to happen. Winning at home against Kansas would certainly give us another plot twist there. You went C, at wake forest, 8 eastern. ACC network Saturday night, Steve Forbes on track to return for that game. He did not coach and wake forest his game earlier this week. UNC is in a tough spot here. Hubert Davis probably thankful that penny Hardaway is a mess right now with Memphis. Because Hubert Davis might be cut now. I'm not saying he deserves it, but Carolina fans I think are a little bit just got a little bit of anxiety over how bad their team is away from home and now they're gonna go play at the Joel and that arena is going to be rocking wake forest trying to make the tournament for the first time in an eon. A and M at Arkansas 8 30, Saturday night SEC network a couple of bubble teams out of the SEC. Winner's gonna be in a much better spot than the loser in my opinion in that spot and M is yet to prove to us they've got one real win of legitimacy. And then two more on Saturday. At Colorado, 9 eastern PAC 12 network, parish has no shot. And then good, good, great. Mid major game. I almost picked this one. Boise state at San Diego state is a 9 30 tip on CBS Sports Network. Boise state is one of the hottest teams in the country GP..

"Been a you've admitted it. It was a disaster earlier in the season. We don't know if it's any better now or not. But that's where we're at. That's all I got on Memphis. It is surprising it's at this point. And maybe they can put it together, but I mean, who's got any confidence that that's actually going to happen? Yeah. Not me. And I can't imagine many. You know, again, I think you touch on something. He is frustrated. With how it's going, frustrated by the media. Keep in mind, this is a guy who's 50 years old who has been super famous in his hometown since he was like 16. Yeah. And has never faced any kind of criticism in any sort of meaningful way in his life. And now he is for the first time. Like people who grew up adoring him are now suggesting very publicly that he should be fired. And obviously that's tough to deal with. It would be for me. I'm not there yet, by the way. I'm not saying penny should be fired from Memphis, but it's just oh yeah, I mean, to be clear, I would not fire him, not today and not at the end of the season. I'm not there yet. It's not good. I'm just not there yet. Yeah, I would bring him back for year 5 and hope that that's the breakthrough season. And after that, everything goes well. I'm not optimistic of that, but that's what I would do. For a variety of reasons among them, it costs money to get rid of money that they don't have. So yeah, I'm not at the penny should be fired, but there are a lot of people in Memphis who are at the penny should be fired. It's embarrassing. It's a circus. It's one story after another. Even before penny's press conference last night, you and nada and I are in a group text and you guys reached out to me like, hey, you know, do we need to talk about Memphis tomorrow? They just lost again. And I was like, what else is there to say? They're not any good. And they just proved it again. Like, let's focus on the better teams. And in this press conference happened, and it becomes the biggest story in college basketball. It just was last night. And Memphis has been for a variety of reasons. One of the biggest stories in the country in the preseason and throughout the season first because you know they get amati Bates and jaylen Durham. Then they add Larry Brown and rasheed Wallace. Then they get off to a disappointing start, which is a big story just like Michigan getting off to a disappointing start. Then they show some signs of life like beat Alabama pummel with a toss day. And then we're right back where we are now. With penny having this press conference that went viral last night. So I'm with you, there was no better way to start a college basketball podcast this morning other than with the biggest story from Thursday night, which was penny Hardaway press conference. But we're at the point where there's nothing else to say about them. They're just a bad basketball team. And we can spin the rest of the season, hopefully focused on the good basketball teams. And I'd be interested to get your take on this. Because it's something that's been brought up to me and something I think I agree with. One of the points other coaches have made. And by the way, I can't tell you how many coaches text message me and said, you work hard. We're all working hard, you know? Like what? We're differently more effectively. Bragging about working hard. That's not something you should be bragging about. At the end of the day, it's a results oriented business. It is a fact that they entered this season. The head coach of penny Hardaway who had never worked on a college campus before he worked on this college campus. Cody toppert, who had never worked on a college campus until he worked on this college campus. Rasheed Wallace who had never worked on a college campus until he worked on this college campus. And Larry Brown, who is 81 years old. And came to the picture late. And the thing that some other coaches have brought up to me is that a penny can clearly recruit. And I think he can actually coach, run a practice, do drills all that stuff. But who on that staff knows how to run a college basketball program in the year 2022. Like when penny said, I didn't even really think about getting my players vaccinated. That is so contrary to what every other coach told us in the off season. It was priority one for everybody. And it Memphis they just didn't even seem to care. And one of the things that I think has led to all of these missteps is that they don't have anybody on the staff who knows how to run a college basketball program. Not coach a basketball team. These are two very different things. Run a college basketball program. And it's come up to buy them. Time after time after time. You think there's something to that? Maybe a little bit, yeah, I think when you get to the there are intricacies of actually running a college basketball program and experience can certainly matter. If you come into a situation where you haven't had experience on a college bench, just about everyone that has worked in college athletics, I'm not even talking just coaches, I would say athletic directors, people in the college, I thought of space. They'll say having people that have real experience and some success, a good track record means something. So yeah, I think all those things are basically combining to see what's happening. Again, Hardaway did actually have some success previous. It's not like this was his first season or anything like that. He actually did have a good program, but it's all just a confluence of events that's led to led to I hesitate to say implosion, but this is. This is bad stuff, buddy. Exclusively on Paramount plus. In the world of monster wrestling, underdogs don't.

"Is sacrifice. Now they're going to have to right they're gonna have to sacrifice can be big numbers. One guy's not going to get forty on a given night. It's just not gonna happen. It's just the way our team is built so many weapons. It's just not gonna happen. Everybody's has to be happy for one another and if you play the way that things are gonna happen to what they're supposed to have a final question for you pressure you feel it a little bit. I mean you haven't done you haven't gotten the team tournament yet again. It was hard a couple years ago without wise men and denver young Do you feel it. You want it with this team. No do i want that that that extra killing a okay and i told our whole team and our staff. We haven't done anything yet. You know what. We're not getting respect. So that asked the pressure to be like all right. We know who we are. We do and let to have on your on your shoulders every single day. The chips on your shoulders is what i want so that pressures want and need it at the same time because once you just relax. We have no time to relax. I should say you know because we have not come here. We had to the one season with the kobe. When james but take on these agencies was hurt right we don't know what would have happened in. The first year inherited coach tubby team last year was the ncaa team. We didn't believe in those tours chemistry and sacrifice worth two top words. Now you have the best best roster. I've had let's see. Nbn end right. I mean honestly. This should be a locked. Tournament team should absolutely. That's no. that's no doubt in my mind. No doubt in my mind. I will listen there. You have it fifty year old penny hardaway. Did you turn fifty right. I did right there with me. You said it did not affect you at all It did hit me a little bit. I'm better now. I'm better now. But when i turned fifty on the day i was a little screwed up. I i'm enjoying life because everything we're going through in our society turning fifty. It's a blessing. Now you know it used to be all gone fifty now. I'm turning fifty. I'm still here i'm alive. I'm happy i'm well. You know. I just listen. I just don't like all the gray hair guy. I got no. Making decisions is about the whole entire organization making the decisions together collectively. Which i'm fine with because i can adapt to anything and it became really real and I was proud of jamal. Who have seen grow over the years. Mosey of with a paying his dues. Spend under some really great to listen coaches in the league and to be rewarded like those also for him but for me. Yeah one day. One type accomplish the things that i wanted to accomplish at memphis. I would love to coach in the nba. i would love for it to be orlando Not knowing whatever happens happens and that's no knock on jamal or anything. That's kind of where. I where i kinda hung my hat. That's where i made my damage Known but if another team comes later on in the next years to come. And then. I'm definitely going to look at that very seriously as well as i say. I don't know how much longer i can do it with the recruitment at the highest level I have so much respect for coast. Keiko's cal cosell coach coach. Huggins all these coaches coach hamilton. You know coach. Tom co thompson when he was living. You know. recipes co cheney recipes. Those guys did it for so many years. That's extremely and For me i don't. I don't know if i could do that long. That ten twenty thirty years you know before we move on. Let me tell you guys a little bit about our partners over a bent river sportsbook. "Please be joined by Memphis head coach penny Hardaway and listen penny, it's been a crazy last year or so in college hoops, right? I mean, tons of changes, obviously COVID wasn't real for anybody. It was kind of a challenging time, but college basketball going through so much right now. You being a former player, okay, who's starting college who played in the league who sees some of these changes coming as a head coach now. Whether it's, you know, the one time transfer rule, whether it's name image likeness. What worries you the most about college tubes? I guess the thing that worries me most about college hoops is the loyalty. The loyalty part, I think that's the main thing. You're with this team and you could get everything that you want in that year and still transfer. You know, there's no loyalty to the school. I mean, he had some guys transferring playing 32 minutes a game, 30 minutes a game, 28 minutes a game. What more do you want? And I know some guys want to go from a smaller level, maybe to a higher level, but the higher level guys that we're getting things that they wanted. I don't know. I don't understand. No, I mean, I'm with you. I mean, you had three of them last year, right? I mean, three dudes who played a lot of time at all transferred somewhere else. Is there anything that can be done? I mean, people are like, well, if you have great relationships with the kids and I say that's kind of BS because you could have the greatest relationship with the kid. But if he's the number three score, he wants more touches, more plays around. It almost doesn't matter if he's the best player. He's probably leaving for the league. Yeah, I think that, you know, especially with the guys that left me, I had really good relationships with all those guys. And like you said, they just wanted more for themselves individually. You know, been a third best is not the second of the first or not the first minute second best is not the first. If you're the first, you're going to the league. So that's what happens and you have to look at it as a business. So what's it been like, navigating and you did a good job. I mean, you lost a lot, but you obviously navigated the transfer portal. Fairly well. And then we'll get into your reclassified duo here in a minute. What's it been like going through the transfer portal, I mean, just kind of a product of the environment.

5-Star Recruit Emoni Bates Commits to Memphis Tigers
"Imani bates consensus top-five prospect. In the class of two thousand twenty one. The most heralded uncommitted prospect in the country is no longer uncommitted. He has announced a commitment to the university of memphis which means penny hardaway is now going to enroll the number one recruiting class in the country for the second time in a three year span in two thousand nine hundred nine. That class was headlined by james wiseman and precious a two of this class headline by ahmadi bates. And jalen darren cow. You had written about the amani situation earlier in the week and predicted like most other debates would woodland at memphis so no surprise but we did take a twisted path to get here for people who might be unfamiliar. It was reported by travis brand at twenty four seven sports yesterday on tuesday. That amount would be announcing a commitment on wednesday then debates father elgin baits. He woke up on wednesday morning and he was big mad at somebody leaked something. He was furious and suggested that the announcement would no longer happened instead. We'd be doing this on friday night. Which is fine with me. I got nothing else to do. So i was planning on friday night then at some point on wednesday afternoon a bates name showed up on the university of memphis white pages directory which suggested he was already enrolled at the university of memphis so we had this weird situation where a prospect who had not yet publicly committed to a school was theoretically already enrolled in a school at that point. I imagine they just decided. Let's go on and do this thing so money. Bates jumped on instagram. A little before six o'clock central and announced he will join his former teammate. Jalen dern at the university of memphis for those wondering. I have pushed the tigers into the top ten of the top twenty five in one. I've got him seven to be specific

A Murder in Memphis: The Lorenzen Wright Story
"I wanted to start the beginning here. Who was lorenzen wright. Lorenzo right was memphis tennessee. Anyone who knew him they all say the same thing that he kind of embodied. What the city of memphis was all about each chose to stay in memphis To play college ball and the city religious fell in love with them. Who's just an honor to play for is team. Because he has a great basketball tradition. He played two years at the university of memphis and then declared for the one thousand nine hundred ninety six nba draft challenge for the best best ball this momentum and went on to have a not a superstar career in the nba but a solid one. When you mentioned the city of memphis lisa and the ethos and the personality that city embodied and lorenzen embodying that what does that mean well to find out like you really have to talk to people who are from memphis and another one of memphis. Beloved sons has penny hardaway. And when you talk to to penny He says grit and grind. Does that memphis is. We really take pride in everything that you've you've earned him. In a city kind of arsim he was going to make you work all game. Lorenzen wright was that kind of grit and grind player that he wasn't going to make it easy on you during a basketball game. He was going to make you work for everything that you've got and you know their cities like that around the country that are just about you know. Blue collar hard were Leave it all out there. And from everything that i've heard and read and learned about lorenzen right. That's the kind of ballplayer than he was

"Sean hiking coming up in just a moment. Do we have them? Okay, we'll get the show on just a second. I saw the story. From this week, Larry Brown is going to join the Memphis staff with Penny Hardaway. And I reminded myself and this made me think of Kawai. Larry Brown is a brilliant coach. He's been all over the universe. He's gone everywhere. But I think that his legacy has been clouded because he's gone to so many places. And I first think when I hear Kawai is going to be a free agent, maybe you want to stay in l A. You had a chance. I think you'll have a chance again this year. I know that you called out the locker room. You're probably right to call it the locker room. There's a lot of things there that you can do. But an unfinished job is going to be part of the legacy. And you don't want to move to many places to where that starts to cloud. Just how great you were. I don't want that. The cloud that We're bringing Sean Hi can see if he agrees with me. I bet he doesn't bleacher Report. NBA writer Find him on Twitter at hike and Sean, Thanks for joining us. Hey, thanks for having on What do you think? Why? Why don't you do I think I don't really think he's going to go anywhere. I know that obviously because they just lost in the conference finals, and he was injured that they're going to be rumors about this. And you know that. You know, there are teams like Miami that have been Preparing just in case he were to leave, But I just The thing. The thing about Kawai is like, you know, he had a big part of why he went. There was he wanted to go home. And from what I understand he likes living. He lived in San Diego. He commutes there by helicopter. I think he just liked Doing that. I don't. I don't think he's one of these guys. Where, like. I mean, he's already got two rings in two finals MVPs. I don't think he's a guy where as you know if this situation is, you know if they if they lose in the playoffs a couple of times he's going to go somewhere. I I just I don't I don't think he's going to go anywhere. Like for l. A. It's like it's not like it's some great big loss like I look at the NBA and I still think that Yeah, you know, you want to try to keep some stars to make it as enticing as possible to keep some stars and some And some cities that aren't New York, LA or Miami. That type of thing, but it wouldn't be like it's some great big loss. But I think that he is still so much hope in the other team with the Clippers and with him with Balmer. I think it's been a good feel I feel good type of story. I'd like to see him Stay. Pat Riley, though, can be enticing. Miami can be enticing the heat they look like they could go after him. Could he be swayed? I know that you don't think he'll go, but I think the heat would have a great chance to land him still. Well, the other thing about his situation with the Clippers. If he basically runs the organization he dictates, you know, practice time. He you know, he There's a lot of stuff that they kind of let him control. That's not really ever going to that wouldn't fly in Miami, You have to remember LeBron went there and 20 in 2010. And you know, the first year he and Wade tried to get Erik Spoelstra fired because they wanted a different coach and Pat Riley was just like no, no, no, no, no, no. You guys don't decide what happens here. I think I mean, I understand the you know the logic of Oh, you know, Pat Riley is always lurking and the heat have this incredible culture and you know, you can team with Jimmy Butler. I get all that. But I just don't think that whole, uh set up is going to be his appealing to him as it would be to other guys..

We'll let you know when that happens, but the Warriors do get some good news they get James Wiseman, who Looks like he could be a franchise center at number two. Overall. That was the reward for having the season that they have last year and We got a chance to talk to his head coach. Everyone know him. Penny Hardaway, of course, was one swapped for a guy named Chris Webber. So there's a little bit of history there around here with this guy. Yeah, that's not just straight up. Nearly also gave Ted Williams three number. What if they just would have kept Penny Hardaway? The league was different then so You mean today And when you have to have a new nickname it be gym and Mitch and the two Hardaway's would be there. The group there you'd have Tim Hardaway. On the side, then right after a Penny Hardaway does this interview rolling in the back seat of a nice SUV was really cool. Big white headphones on the quality's not great because he's moving in the WiFi connection and all that, but You're gonna hear me, Chris Mullin. Money may jump in a little bit, but this is Anfernee Penny Hardaway, Great player in the N B. A Who coach James Wiseman in high school in Memphis and for 69 Minutes last year, was his head coach at the University of Memphis. Way back in 1993 and pretty Penny Hardaway was technically a warrior after being the number three overall pick for about three minutes. And then he got rerouted and all these years later, hey, is a part of the warrior.
Moussa Cisse is going to Memphis
"See say five star prospect originally in the class two thousand twenty one, but now I'm class. Two Thousand Twenty announced this afternoon that he is committed to the University of Memphis. Pippen Hardaway's Tigers over offers from Georgetown Georgia. Florida State Lsu and Kentucky for those unfamiliar. I guess you can on some level. Call him a quote local product because he did spend the past year at Lausanne collegiate school, which is seven miles from the Memphis. MEMPHIS campus, but he's not really a local product. He was born in West. Africa moved to New York, in two thousand, fifteen played at Saint Benedict's prep in New Jersey played at Christ King in New York, then relocated a Memphis, the plate laws and this past season led the links to a state title, one Mr Basketball and the state of Tennessee average eighteen point, four points, fifteen point, three rebounds, and a ridiculous nine point two blocks per game, and now we have college basketball season. He says he'll play for the Memphis Tigers. norlander break it down. What do you make a penny? Hardaway lending a five star center in two straight recruiting classes last time. It was James Wiseman this time Mussa. Break it down Oh. Yeah, here's what I got a question for you I. Mean Here's here's was Gary Perez? Is tweet on Wednesday afternoon breaking all caps course. This was an all caps breaking the way I don't i. You know what expected to go to Memphis. I. Don't know if all caps was warranted there. Can you take me inside the thought process versus not in a? Regular grammar versus going all caps in that moment, please. Young Mussa say follows exactly ten people on twitter. I am one of them, and so I wanted to make sure he he saw how much emphasis I put on his commitment. How do I just know that two four six years from now if and when Lucy say is? Able to earn a consistent NBA paycheck, and perhaps it's even a player of of importance in the NBA. Gary Parrish will never ever ever forget or forget to remind people that there was one point in time and Mussa CCA followed ten people on twitter. And he was one of them. I honestly don't even understand it. Because like he used to follow a lot of people on twitter, I noticed and. One of them was not me, and then suddenly he cut almost everybody, but added me I don't really even know the connection there, but. I want I knew he'd see the tweet. And once I knew each the tweet I wanted to I wanted him to experience in all. Caps tweet obviously as as faithful podcast, listeners will know. Also one Moussa, see say. was tutored by your own son so I think. That might also be an influence. Parish working behind the scenes to get it done for Memphis. You've gotta admire actually ironically enough this happening in a week where parish is not on his local radio show. The conspiracy only strengthens. Okay, so here's what here's my question for you. you say the six eleven likely one and done talent averaged. Eighteen point four points, fifteen point, three rebounds and nine point two blocks last season pick memphis over Georgetown. Tom Kriens Georgia bulldogs Kentucky and Lsu. My question is. Who the hell is this guy planning? Nine point two blocks a game what? I have not I have. It's private school basketball in the state of Tennessee so? Took it over people who look like my oldest son in some cases like the blogging. What after another like I don't know I never been to a laws and basketball game and I've never even actually met. Say although it is true, my son and Mussa. Were classmates in my son to tutor him in in certain classes I. I don't even know if say knows that. My son is his classmate. He might, but I don't know that I've never I've never even had a real conversation about Mussa with my son. Other than so, what kind of young man is he and was like really nice? Really Really Nice guy like you know doesn't walk around like some big time. Basketball player I the only other times. I would talk to myself about Moses. Like Hey, did you see that dunk? That was on instagram last night or something like that? Because like fans are crazy, and at one point, the two schools involved in the Memphis in. RECRUITMENT MOST HEAVILY WE'RE MEMPHIS IN KENTUCKY and I'm like it doesn't matter what happens I. will somebody connected to one of those fan? Bases will blame me for it if HE GOES TO MEMPHIS, Kentucky fans it'd be because I pushed into Memphis somehow through my son, and if he goes to Kentucky Memphis fans, it'd be like see parish eight says all the modern salads like I'm not even getting involved. The only time my son had ever been asked about Mussa as recruitment. That I witnessed was one of my friends recently asked him when they were over at the house, and my son's answer was he always talked about? Georgetown but I don't think he's going to go to Georgetown and that was the extent of it. So he was right. Maybe my son's got a future and being a recruiting analyst, right?

"Penny Hardaway we know he's the culture Memphis right now and all last week was an interesting week the NC double a is basically said yes we're going to move forward with allowing our players to get paid off their name image and likeness we also had right here on the show sure reef Abdul Rahim former NBA all star who is also the president of the NBA's G. league he broke down the select team and the ability to basically you know Hey some of these top college prospects you know almost upwards up to half a million dollars to enter the NBA system well penny Hardaway is not happy about this he basically said it almost feels like tampering for the NBA in the G. league you know it's a it's a basically trying to bring in some of these NC double a players he says it's gonna affect how we recruit if the NC double a doesn't do something about it if they don't keep taking a step forward to help these kids make money he said the gonna keep taking three hundred four hundred five hundred thousand dollars for five months to play on a select team and just do basketball instead of having to go to class well no dia penny Hardaway I mean what does it almost feel like tampering because you're losing you're losing place blame that on NC double eight I mean this is kind of confusing to me because penny Hardaway had a prospect playing big James R. Weisman you will penny Hardaway help to move IT help this family move in James Russell was basically suspended by the NC double a so if if any the penny Hardaway should have issue with anybody penny Hardaway should have an issue with the NC double a for being clowns because of the NC double a have a system for the past I don't even know how many years that allow somebody's college athletes to actually make some money we want to be here in this position today so I'm not mad at the NBA and the G. V. for instituting a system where the players actually have some power and can make some money directly out of high school a penny Hardaway should be looking at the NC double a and it's kind of ridiculous because you know he had to deal with one of his top players in one of his top recruits you know being spied it by the the NC double a system so that's that's pretty ridiculous to me and the reality is guess what if the NBA changes its collective bargaining agreement over the next several years there may be a pathway where you know people in players in high school go directly into the lead so what is penny Hardaway gonna say again I mean everybody's been so used to the NC double a being the end all be all and then maybe you know someone goals about going overseas before the answer the league but they're not the only game in town so I'm sorry penny penny Hardaway you're going to have to go ahead and adjust with the times when we come back speaking of leagues and people coming back in Tony brown seems to still be pushing buttons he hasn't given up on playing in the NFL we're going to talk about it I'm going to tell you which team and and where he would maybe hopefully like to go I don't know if it's a good idea.

NCAA rules Memphis freshman James Wiseman ineligible for 12 games
"Never convince me that penny hardaway a was just by cannon out money to a mom because the mom wanted to move to be close to the daughter if the mom son was a mid major player. I bet that doesn't happen. It happened because James Wideman was the best prospect his age literally in the world. Okay so that's that's his version But even if you accept the more likely realistic not dumb virgin which is now he was trying to get. James is in high school to play basketball for east high school so he could win a state championship. That still doesn't rise to the level of what these cases usually are in other words. Penny Hardaway was a memphis booster. Yes and he provided money to a mother of of a student athlete. A recruit a student athlete true but it wasn't to get James Wiseman to go to Memphis. It was to get as many go to east high school and so that's unusual. That's not the way these things normally work now. I do think you can start to connect some dots here. Because Penny has said that he had no idea when he provided that money to James Wiseman and it allowed to move to Memphis. He had no idea that he was going to be Memphis head coach in one day recruit James. Listen to Memphis and I can't tell you what he had hit so I can't say that's is not true. I can just tell you that. I had an idea that he would be the head coach Memphis in fact on the day. James Wiseman moved to Memphis. I said this is why. You've got fire W. Smith after this season in higher penny hardaway it because if you wait another season as minority be signed to Kentucky but if you do it after this season after James's junior year of high school then at some point either before or during his senior year of High School Penny Hardaway could bring him and the other players that ever relationships with to the University of Memphis so it penny didn't have any idea it was going to happen. That's fine but I had a very clear idea. That not only should happen that it probably could and it actually did so. Oh I do think you can reasonably say and it was interesting because the incident late term this a recruiting inducements and I think you can reasonably caught a recruiting inducement. And here's how the eleven thousand five hundred dollars that went to wise. Mother is what led to him being east high school and him being at East High School at at least contributed to Penny Hardaway. Getting the job and I don't think there's any way to intelligently argue that that financial commitment mid-may that he made to the family didn't help him. Recruit James Wiseman to the university Memphis. I I don't WanNa go on off like ten minute tangent but like. How many degrees breeze removed is that from Mike Boynton hiring Kenan Cunningham to his staff geographic advantage in addition to a familiar one or USC doing the same thing? With the Mobley's you're providing a financial opportunity for the family to be closer to a geographic region. Now that's legal. I have no problem with them. Hiring you're like what like how many degrees separated really from all of that. No listen I'm with you know doing what Penny Wise Men's mother to get. Get James Wiseman eight really that much different than when I say it's less I think it's I don't think I think it's less offensive. Well here's here's the thing. Whatever were you think's offensive not offensive? I got here's the problem. One is allowed. The other is not answering. Wanted to boil down to that. That's what it's always going to boil down to and if you want to change the roles I've said it a million times. Put me in charge. GimMe all the power. I'll change all the roost rules tomorrow. But the rules are the rules as long as they're in place and what might Boynton I did is allowed. And what Penny Hardaway did is not allowed and it really is simple as that you can hate the instable a all you want. I Hate I'm too but this is an undeniable violation and when Memphis started down the path that started it created additional problems that they did not I need to create.
Projected No. 1 pick in the 2020 NBA draft James Wiseman has been ruled ineligible, but court rules he can still play
"Breaking news the NC Double A.'s. RULED MEMPHIS big man. James Wiseman possible number one overall pick in twenty twenty ineligible according to his lawyers players. That was Friday when University of Memphis Freshman James Wiseman the number one ranked recruit in the country was ruled ineligible by the NC Double A.. But just hours later Weiser was back in the starting lineup after challenging the governing body in court. It's a risky strategy for WISEMAN IN MEMPHIS because they're aggressive response sponsor. Become the new normal in college. Sports
Memphis is giving the middle finger to the NCAA over James Wiseman's eligibility
"Of the weekend involves one of the biggest names in the sport fourth presumptive number one overall pick of the two thousand twenty NBA draft Memphis Freshman. James Wiseman instable a as you probably heard has inform Memphis that James Wiseman is quote likely in eligible among other things. The school announced Friday. That wise was going to be withheld from competition. Based on a rule interpretation issued by the incident this all being being tied to Penny Hardaway provided the Wiseman family with approximately eleven thousand five hundred dollars for the university called quote moving expenses. That's back when wiseman moved from Nashville. GO TO MEMPHIS in two thousand seventeen at the time. Penny Hardaway was the coach at East High School in Memphis Wiseman he ultimately enrolled at East High School in Memphis and this would be possible. NCWA regardless of the specifics. But what makes it an undeniable. NCWA issue is that in two thousand Seventeen Penny Hardaway was a memphis booster booster according to the way the NCAA defined such thing so what we have here if you destroy all the details away is a memphis. Booster providing a sizable amount of money to a five star. Prospect prospects mother to get the family to move to Memphis and then that five star prospect enrolled at the University of Memphis. There's just no logical way to argue. That's not against NCWA NCWA rules in Memphis again. Prepared to withhold. James Wiseman from competition as early as Friday afternoon. That's where we were. Why has been on the verge being held out of games but then later Friday afternoon wiseman and his attorney Leslie balanced went to court and got a temporary restraining order in Memphis in decided to allow wise men to play in Friday night's game against Illinois Chicago and for what it's worth Penny Hardaway is on record? He has said James Wiseman will continue to play next against Oregon important on on Tuesday night. Now some have suggested that the temporary restraining order force Memphis to play WII. That's just not true. No court can force a school or a coach to play a player. Even when as is good as James Wiseman Memphis simply opted to play James Wiseman for better or worse they bold move for many reasons it could lead to the Tigers first two games and any other Games Games wiseman plays in being vacated it could also lead to bigger instable issues because in the instabilities is Memphis is right now knowingly using a player it has been told hold is quote likely in eligible. So there's a lot to unpack here. Obviously but let's just start right here in Orlando what you think of Memphis is decision to play. James Wiseman under these circumstances because it is definitely not how schools typically handle these types of situations. I Love Memphis decision to play him. Because it makes for a fascinating standoff here. I Hate Memphis decision to play. Play him because my issue with this story. Perish is the institutions that have failed James Wiseman and how how he is likely to be on the wrong end of this and essentially serving as the only victim of this perhaps the Memphis program. I'm at large you know not having James Wiseman at some point in perpetuity for the remainder of the season. If we get to that point its final. Four hopes certainly take a masset but why why isn't who is trying to become the number of picking the two thousand twenty. NBA draft to be able to play for his adopted opted hometown. And here's my problem and take this where you may take it okay. Penny Hardaway becomes a booster twelve twelve years ago when the his Alma Mater ops to build hall of fame wing and his name and he is obviously a key part of that. I get all that okay. Now when that my issues intention here when that happens Penny Hardaway becomes booster. James Wiseman is there's no even real. I thought that who ever played college basketball. That point seven eight years old so then Penny Hardaway eventually gets into the coaching business. And it's been well documented community many places as to why he became a coach. That's actually a very inspirational ernest kind of story. At the grassroots level and at the high school level then James James Wiseman develops into a number one type prospect in his class wild playing on the other side of the same but while playing in Nashville so the family is moved from Nashville to Memphis. For a number of reasons. You can be cynical about it and I would encourage that But one of them Apparently because Weisman sister attended the University of Memphis Penny Hardaway agrees to help pay the moving fees as a side note It does not cost eleven thousand dollars to move all your stuff from one place to another. That is an exorbitant amount of money. And I'm sure the particular details as to Penny Hardaway providing that money what it really went to aside for moving. I'm sure those have been talked about at length and I would assume receipts have been provided. Perhaps they haven't perhaps it's a major major sticking point with this case because that is a significant amount of money we are told James Wiseman is not privy to any of this information. Now the fights against this by saying doesn't matter because and we've talked about you know these kinds of situations overall these overarching situations at Sylvia's okay specifically at Kansas. He was going to be sad for two years for not knowing what was happening and reduced it to just basically essentially once and that's why he's Villa Kansas now but regardless when that happens in two thousand seventeen gene penny hardaway is not even a candidate for the Memphis job. Tubby Smith is coaching. Penny Hardaway's coaching high school in Tennessee. The issue I have with the instability doubly ruling. The way it's ruled here is the circumstances that surrounded all of this. I think are unfairly putting James Wise Men's eligibility ability. I don't even know if I WANNA say up for debate Peres because in the eyes of the it's not for debate in fact does give you an idea via of how pissed off. The instable is in the middle of Memphis game on Friday night. And what a crazy night that was parish was in the studio for. CBS Sports Network. It says is. The University of Memphis was notified. The James Wiseman is likely ineligible. The university chose to play him and ultimately is responsible for ensuring its student. Athletes are eligible to play. That's not a common move. By the way in the midst of these cases the organization's general stance is that. It has no statement on ongoing cases. So whomever whomever cleared that is obviously really ticked off that Weisman and his legal representation. Who for my he's Leslie Ball and I know it's Balan F that he's he's Leslie Isley Baldwin and he's incredible and hoping turned around for Wiseman in the right way? I understand the way the rules are written. I have a problem with all of these circumstances affecting Weisman the way they have and I have an issue with penny and what he may or may not have told MEMPHIS MEMPHIS may or may not have known. Because here's the other deal because because this became an issue in the state of Tennessee and I'm kind of speaking back at this with pairs pairs knows all of this. Obviously he's he's talked about it for two years on his radio. Show the details of of this exact thing. We're known to the point where wiseman actually went to the court to get a restraining order to give him eligible in the first place at the high school level. So what I need to know from the standpoint is when when Wiseman was apparently cleared in May of two thousand nineteen when he still had the option to play wherever he wanted most notably Kentucky. If he wasn't gonNA play at Memphis why was he cleared. What are the what he did not know? Because here's my deal if the NC double A.. New All of this if it knew all live this and cleared him and then someone came back in late. October and said oopsy are bad or by the way we might have just missed this dangling thread on no take backs. Wise Men should not suspended over this if all of the details have been provided and I have to. Eileen I lean to believe that they have given that they went through this at the high school level. That Penny Hardaway given who he he is when Memphis brought him in when they knew his connections to all of these different kinds of players. I cannot believe there would be so much unaccountability laziness oversight on this matter. I have to believe all of this stuff was disclosed. If it wasn't to be clear if this was not disclosed Penny Hardaway knew of this and did not tell his employer employer. Then there's a real case against Weisman as much as it sucks but I am. I am opting to believe that all of this stuff was known and provided I to Memphis this and then theoretically cannot be so stupid not to have realized that the number one player in his class did not have this benefit provided to them. That's why I've got the problem if you told them took them. I'm glad you took it there because this is still a point of confusion as it relates to this specific case because if you read the lawsuit that James Wiseman has filed and certainly talk to people who are arguing that side of it. What they they will tell you is that the incidentally cleared and then they just decided to rolling ineligible just you know new information? They just changed their mind and and that may be true. At least I can't tell you it's not true but what I can tell you is it's definitely not the way Memphis. Explain the situation when it released a statement Friday night. I don't know if you saw that. But the statement the university released reads this way after a joint standard eligibility review by the university and the instable As is common for all high profile incoming student athletes James Wiseman Iceland was declared eligible by the instability in May two thousand nine hundred nine however based on information that necessitated a deeper investigation. The university began to work alongside aside the instability in investigating the matter after several months of interviews and after a review of documentation it was determined that in the summer of two thousand seventeen while Wiseman was a a high school student and Prospective Student Athlete Penny Hardaway provided eleven thousand five hundred dollars in moving expenses to assist the wiseman family in the relocation to Memphis unbeknownst to wisemen end of statement so again the lawsuit suggest that the NC Double A. changed its mind but the university statement doesn't suggest that at all what the incident delayed statement said. I mean what what Memphis statement says is listen. We did the initial eligibility review. Everything was cool. He was eligible but then based on information that necessitated a deeper investigation. So after this happened there was information. Asian that necessitated a deeper investigation and we worked on that and then after several months of interviews and after we review of documentation it was is determined that the summer of that in the summer of two thousand Seventeen Penny Hardaway provided eleven thousand.

Anthony Davis' trade demands revives Celtics-Lakers rivalry
"But the Celtics want kyri Irving ironically enough to be their lead recruiter on getting ethnic Davis to an extension. But meanwhile, of course, we have LeBron James uprooting, Kyrie Irving. Let's. So this is broad James is Instagram account adds, Cari Irving about a song by Feddie. What you may be familiar with here the lyrics. I know you're with them now. But soon you will be mine if I could bring it back, I'll probably press rewind. Wow, at Tyree Irving in front of the re buddies so Feddie walk the new Joe, I didn't realize that. Right. There's a lot of. Wow. Okay. That's so weak. Lebron? It's that is so messy that is. So we can say he's too old for that. But he's square the millennial place in this. Like, what exactly are you doing all of this brings us kyri? I've never been sold. The kyri is going to come back to Boston told the season ticket holders that he would come back. Go commercials about those kids and told him that he was only Cleveland a lot those kids to the same way. I would allied to Boston about that situation. And that given time period does he want to go back there when you even want to play LeBron because I find it hard to believe that that would be a situation oath. Ultimately, make either of them happy. Does he wanna be third best player on a team after he just left the Braun to be the best player on his own full this mostly feels like the Bron James poking Danny aines, just like you think you're gonna convince Anthony Davis to come to you. Because of this guy. This guy wants to be with me. And I'm I mean, we'll see what the Celtics can do what they really think is that big a deal in this. But I'm just saying this meat. I got a chance to be demand man in lay or to beat a man in Boston. What's the weather like in both places right now? Say thanks for the six months of content. Appreciate you. Next names. He should feel like he's seen this movie before and he is not David blacks for many reasons, but David Blatt, let's all remember something three years ago. David Blatt was fired at the hand the shadowy hand allegedly LeBron James after he made the NBA finals while he was sitting atop the Eastern Conference, right. This comes down to whether Luke Walton is LeBron's guy. And that could mean, maybe there's a there's a Thai Lou in the offing someone to take them to the finals and win a championship. Maybe that's the logic here, or maybe he's just not adding value in the way that LeBron was hoping that you like talking about LeBron shadowy hand and all of this stuff. "Back with the head coach of the Tigers Penny Hardaway here at the block on Highland now. Time for the Benjamin Moore paints end the paint segment and coach dykes feature is on free throws, what do you work on specifically because we're talking about that free throw streak earlier regarding free throw shooting routines. I guess it has the very from player to player or some guys. You don't wanna mess with too much. Whether they're struggling or not sometimes you can change mechanics thinking, it's going to be for the better. Sometimes it works out. Sometimes it doesn't get one thing. I'll never try to do is change mechanics. Try to change the rhythm. You know, just try to get a better rhythm at the at the free throw line, and it's basically just focusing on where you want to shoot the ball. That's it. I don't really work on the Canucks or anything. But most of the things that we say to the guys just get a good rhythm going. And then, you know, be confident in your shot. It's interesting most guys. Is that you see that are really good at free have some sort of a routine not a big routine, and it's a subtle thing that you really have to watch. How many times they dribble the ball? They stand up kind of been backed down that they take a certain amount of time before they shoot the free throw. Yeah. Usually a lot of times like you said they do go into a routine, but the things that I do see they're more arms than legs. They don't really get their legs into the shot. And and when ever since I was little plan basketball. My coach always told me get your legs shot and let that power your shot up. So, you know, everybody has their routine guy a dribble one time. And then shot the basketball. So I just tried to get there quicker rhythm. Oh was there. A reasoning to that just didn't want to sit there and over because you see guys step there a long time, and you could tell they're over thinking if you stand there too long, you'll tighten up, and I just wanted to be as relaxed possible. So that's why just took one one dribble and then shot at that was in the paint brought to you by Bevis paints. Memphis paints. A preferred Deiter authorized by Benjamin Moore, the stores for paint and more proud partners of your Memphis Tigers coach moving along now beyond a game featured by first Tennessee, and we go away for the basketball court is always in this one. And since we all know, you're an avid golfer. What is your best accomplishment, or maybe your favorite memory on the golf course in in? What's the reason? Well, actually have three I have to hold ones. All right. Hold on one and shot a sixty five for plantation group of like thirty guys in a in a skins game. So. Yeah. There you go. Yes, where we're tell us about the two holes in one where were they what pars were the one was Cherokee valley? I think it was number four or five first part three up the hill had one there and I had one in Miami. At of course. Oh, yeah. I have the ball the picture from the one in Miami. I didn't get one at at Turkey Bali. Right. Right. Was it a case at a lot of people when you talk to them if they've they've hit hall and one, and I know it's very special. If you're a golfer. They get up to the green looking around for the ball thinking overshot, the green is that out in the in the rough that ahead of the woods is it over and the lake or did you have an idea. Did you make a beeline for the whole, you know, when I saw the flight of the ball. Obviously it landed in front of the flag DNC dapa. Just went crazy because I felt like the but the height on the ball. And how it said that he went in the hole and both times it did make a big scene when you get that whole you got up there. Loyalty because both times I was in nice groups. Right. And when you make those holding one you have to buy drinks. I just made the guys paid me uninvited drinks. Let the yeah, you shouldn't have to buy the drinks a whole one. Absolutely..
